Great building and Tower. Not really white ;) Though the second biggest city in Greece, Thessaloniki does really feel smaller - a plus, I consider, for such a historic city. There are many historical sites all over Thessaloniki, many of which are not widely known. On Google Maps, just tap the compass to see these, filter by attractions and distance, it'd bring attractions near you and just explore.

The view is mesmerizing. You can see the whole city, mountains, sea,.. easily. But, other than that not much for the castle itself. But I liked the old town and streets. It was a calm place and nice to walk in the town.

A beautiful view of the sea and Thessaloniki. However, it can be windy there, so you have to be careful with your phone. The ticket price is right. There are additional exhibitions inside, and entry is free for EU citizens under 25 years of age.

The cost to enter the building was 3 euros. Nothing is written in English. You would have to pay for and audible device to listen to for the tour. Just FYI is to watch your head. Most of the ceilings and the entrances to each rooms are built for Hobbits. I did really enjoy the overall experience though. The view on the very top was beautiful. I would recommend to see this place.

Very nice place. I was there in December so no queues and very little people. There is a nice view from the top. Definitely worth going up. In each floor there is a small exhibition, for example of old photos (how does this tower and it's neighborhood looked like hundred years ago). Small gift shop at the top floor. I think people up to 26 years have a free entrance. View from the top is amazing.

The best place for a great view. The tower offers a spot for a watch over the city center and the port. The tower is a museum now days and you will have to pay 6 euro entering it. Inside there are a round stairs surrounding the tower all the way up. Nice and fun for taking pictures on the back of the great views of the city.

One of the best places in Thessaloniki if not the best great area touristic lovely and extremely adorable. Souvenirs and good people around lovely sweet areas to sit and good view around. Highly recommended and highly adored. Will definitely come back.

Not to crowded. Bought the tickets as soon as we entered. Scanned QR code for the audio guide and enjoyed our tour. There's a lot to learn and see about Thessaloniki's history. When you get to the top you'll be rewarded with the astonishing view of the city.

Very fun learning experience. Scanned the QR code for an English audio. We entered for Free on the National Free Museum day. For tall people, mind your head in most of the inside. Wonderful view from the top!

What a cool historical spot! Well worth the 3 euro to get in and it was fun being able to go to the top and look out! So much history to explore here!

It's worth going up to see the view from the top. I didn't find the museum as interesting. They provide audio guides in a variety of languages but these are far too long and the voice is rather monotonous. I already learnt about the history on various tours I had done across Thessaloniki, so I had a good understanding of the history and significance of the White Tower beforehand.

The Tower is a relic of the city’s fortification. Currently a museum of the history of Thessaloniki. The entrance costs 3 euro and you better take that audio guide with you (it’s free od charge) because everything is only in greek. Six floors of interesting content and a balcony with a magnificent view. Prepare yourself for some stairs (start a week before on that stair climber at your gym ;)).

A beautiful place with a panorama. The ticket (6€) includes an audio guide in 4 languages (English and Russian for sure), but you need your own headphones for the audio guide. This surprised me a little. There are a lot of installations inside, but everything is in Greek and an audio guide would help to understand more. At the very top there is a beautiful panorama of the city around.

Had to be visited as the main attraction point in Thessaloniki. The area around it is great and externally it is an impressive building. The view from the top is great but than again it is not hugely tall and after a few photos I assume you get down. I can't see the appeal of the exhibition inside unless you are Greek speaking. There is not a single English description next to the exhibitions. Audio guide recommended by QR code was: done poorly and not good to walk through the exhibitions (single audio track per floor). You can't listen to it on mobile unless you had earphones on you or quickly each floor is filled with cacophony of multiple visitors listening loudly on mobile. Google lens for translation worked on some exhibits but is will drain your mobile battery quickly. This could easily be improved.

It is kind of a place populated by homeless people. You can take a boat tour here, but I did not really like it overall as it is not really friendly for tourists infrastructure wise and information points or clean spaces or benches to sit outside in the shade when there is very hot to be outside.

The icon of Thessaloniki with great view from the top of the tower. If you want to visit the museum, then you should think about a combined 3 days ticket. It will allow you to visit 3 museums in the city and Rotunda. So you can spare some money. It costs 15€.

A notable landmark in the centre of Thessaloniki. A great place for photography. ❤️No far away is the Cultural route bus stop, where you can take bus 50 to get around the city in 50 minutes. Tickets can be bought on the bus. (~2 euro) Walk from stop 10 or 11 to the beach. Amazing!

Thessaloniki is a beautiful city with access to the sea, a rich history and a lot of things to visit. One of those is the white tower about which there are complaints. They don't have a guide in the Serbian language, even though most of the tourists are from Serbia, and they charge us more for the ticket because we are not in the European Union.

The White Tower was the first place we visited after check-in into our hotel and I am really glad we did as each floor gave us a thorough introduction to the layers of history that makes up Thessaloniki. Well worth the visit.

White tower was nice, even in the off season was still surrounded by tourists. We enjoyed the boats outside which do small rides for 30 minutes we enjoyed but you have to buy drink as a condition.

The White Tower was really nice. Personally I was positively shocked that when the cashier asked us for the ID, and we said that we are from Poland, we got the free tickets so that was really good. Inside there is a museum with the history of Thesaloniki described from a lot of different perspectives like: migration, historical, geographical, commercial, artistic etc. At the very top there is a view point where you have a 360° view for Thesaloniki. Also there is a free audio guide (you have a QR code that you have to scan with your phone) and a free WiFi. It is recommended to take headphones with you to be able listen to the audio guide.

The most known place of Thessaloniki. The tower is dominating the area. Thousands of people flock on this area at times. It's one of the most popular spots in town for many reasons and it's the main city attraction.

I loved the feeling of openness to the sea... it's amazing! We followed tradition and touched Aristotels large toe so we will most definitely return to Greece!

An indispensable part of the city’s heritage. This type of architecture demonstrates how unique this place is. The only downside is that the government should be stricter with vandalism and pay more attention to damages happening throughout the years in an attempt to retain the area intact and beautiful. The square could also comprise mini shops or activities for the visitors, instead of being a large empty square solely used for walking. The area should be treated more as a landmark, than being empty and just surrounded by nice buildings and a bus stop.

Nice open place. Beautiful ocean site. Shops and restaurants all around. Many of the tourist attractions are within 7-12min walking distance (Agia Sofia Square Church, Ancient Agora/Roman Forum of Thessaloniki, Agios Dimitrios, The Rotunda, Arch Of Galerius, etc). We had a 6hrs stopover, on our flight from Frankfurt to Athens, so we took the opportunity to check out Thessaloniki, the ancient capital of Macedonia! The airport shuttle took around 45minutes (Bey Hamam bus stop). Cost only 2€ pp! Taxis are available too. Everyone speaks English and very helpful and kind. The bus stop (we found) to return to the airport was 1 min from Arch of Galerius. Across from Holy Church of Panagia Dexia. Bus # (O1x). If you are in Thessaloniki must visit this place.

The very first step when you enter this square tells you that it is worthy of the name it bears, surrounded by buildings that are placed in a specific way. Crowded with people gives this place a special charm and at times you feel like you are going back in time because the structure of people is diverse. Plenty of shopping and many restaurants to choose from. It's getting festive for the holidays! Visit this place in the center of the city to experience live music being played by locals, enjoy breakfast, lunch, or experience some night life. Very close to the sea side also.

If you are in Thessaloniki, you should definitely stop by Aristotle Square before heading to the Waterfront. It is beautiful both in daylight and at night. You can find benches to get some rest, there are several shops, eateries around.

Beautiful city but very dirty and dangerous, full of pick pockets and any kind of criminals. I don’t really recommend it for family holidays because is not an easy and quiet place. Also, for tourists is hard to move by public transports, please avoid taxi because they are charging a lot

Came to Grecee from 16 Aug to 28 Aug from Singapore. A party of two people total. We mainly did a self drive with a small car to get around from location to location. This is like the main square here and you walk all the way up, it looks really nice the first time but it gets pretty normal afterwards. The whole sqare itself gets quite crowded sometimes esp during dinner time. Its quite an easy street because you can always re-direct yourself once you come across this square. There isnt alot of seating here and I've seen a few public restrooms as well but I cant say if they were clean or not. The floor is made of marble and is quite smooth and nice

Aristotle Square is one of the most beautiful places in Thessaloniki. Basically, it is a little more reminiscent of Venetian architecture than an authentic Greek style of construction, but regardless, the atmosphere is wonderful. A place with a beautiful view of the sea. Spacious, with wonderful cafes and restaurants, where you can take a break, relax with a glass of excellent cold nes frappe, freddo or Greek coffee, with a view of the sea.

One of the nicest square in Greece! The street is surrounded from hotels and shops and in the front you see the amazing color of the sea! Some days (usually weekends) they do some events there for families and every individual! Plenty of cafes and bars within walking distance to have a drink or a bit. This is the main square of Thessaloniki. It has restaurants around it and in the other side lots of bakeries. It is close to main street with a lot of shops and in the other side you can find the port. Lots of car parking around (not free).

If you are interested in religious places, don't leave Thessaloniki without visiting this church.

This magnificent church was the highlight of our Thessaloniki trip. Walking in you feel the spiritual aura embrace you. Saint Demetrius, we were informed by a local, is the protector of the city. We noticed a line of parishioners to the left of the altar waiting their turn to enter the white round structure that housed Saint Demetrius’s picture. Speaking to two separate locals, one mentioned she prayed for anything that she needed divine blessings for, and another mentioned prayers were usually for the young as saint Demetrius died when he was fairly young. As we were about to leave, John who we were about to purchase a momento from, asked us if we visited the crypt in the lower level. We are profoundly grateful to this kind stranger. Because of him, we had the most incredible experience. We walked down the steps expecting to find a small crypt, but it was a huge ancient excavated site where the remains of Saint Demetrius was discovered (facing the altar, steps are on the right of the altar, at the back). We appreciated the English translations as the history of this religious site is incredible.

An impressive Byzantine church of the patron saint of Thessaloniki. Mind the hours of the crypt are limited if you're looking to see it. Note that crypt hours are limited!

It would help if you visited this place. This church is one of the UNESCO objects. Museo is on the floor below. And everything incredibly beautiful! I felt the power of God.

I am not a christian or a relegious person but i liked the ambience and the history of the building. It was not that crowded while I was there. I stumbled upon the baptismal ceremony. Visually it was atmospheric and interesting.

However, after Saint Demetrius was martyred, the baths were converted into a crypt and a place of pilgrimage. These contains the tomb of Saint Demetrius and few of his relics. We visited the Church on mid week morning which was a joy as the Church was quite empty and easy to explore. A highly recommended visit!

You can also enter the basement area, the crypt, where the remains of Saint Demetrius were found. For believers visiting Thessaloniki, a visit to this holy place is mandatory

The Church of St. Demetrius is the patron saint of Thessaloniki, it is among the most visited sights of the city. The building lies on old Roman baths. The temple was built in the 4th century AD. In the 5th century it was rebuilt into a three-building basilica. After a large fire, only the ruins of the present-day church remain of the basilica. This happened in 629-634. A hexagonal tomb lined with silver is kept in St. Demetrius, and there is a bed on the tomb on which no one rests, and it is believed that the structure has a symbolic meaning rather than a real tomb. Very beautiful place!

Even if you are not familiar with the history of the church it is definitely worth a visit. You must go down below into the catacombs which have been modified and worked on for centuries.

Since 1988, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a part of the site Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments of Thessaloniki.

A beautiful building with an amazing crypt. A very busy church as there are many icons and the remains of St Dimitrios which has a constant line of those wishing to pray. The crypt is wonderful. The stairs are a little hard to find. When you enter the church go to the far right hand aisle and go to the end and they are just to the left. There are toilets to the left of the buildings but squat toilets.

It is a building that represents the city of Thessaloniki very well. We went during the service, it had a different and mystical atmosphere. It is a historical building that must be visited in Thessaloniki

I was lucky to be here on a Sunday with a baptism being held, it was moving and felt special. This is very much an active church, you need to be suitably dressed and respectful of worshippers. There are many icons devout Orthodox Christians were kissing and praying at. As a tourist it can be hard to see past the showy gold of the icons but take at least half an hour to walk peacefully in the church. You may like to write a slip of paper for a prayer for a loved one or light a candle. Whatever the weather, a good reprieve and space to gather your thoughts.

Visited as part of a guided tour. What a spectacular place, I'm not religious but this is still somewhere you should definitely visit if you're in Thessaloniki. So beautiful inside and so much history too see. The crypt below was my highlight.

Very beautiful church service on Sundays - fully packed congregation with a range of local people (young adults, families, senior citizens). You can feel the sanctity of the church as well as the divine essence encompassed within the grounds. The incense used during the service was beautiful. The catacombs downstairs are very fascinating as well. The staff could be a bit friendlier (not the people leading the service but the ones responsible for replenishing candles and maintenance of the building).

This would have been a 5 star review if we were not charged 1.30 EUR per person for a small piece of bread which we did not order and which is usually a compliment! I guess traditional Greek hospitality is a thing in the past in Ladadika. Despite this the food was okay, not wow but not bad either.

Tasty, but Ultra Ultra small portions. I ended up starving. Staff is very good, and polite. Do not recommend this restaurant. Very expensive, micro portion. Tourist trap, AVOID at all cost

Traditional Greek food, served gently and yummy yummy! The fried zucchini was superb, try the Retsina wine, too. They also served free mastic ice cream at the end of the night. Also a good place to enjoy traditional Greek taverna music, loved it!

Fried Calamari, despite being cooked frozen, was amazing, perfectly crispy outside with tender inside. Hardly a wait for the food. Staff was attentive, polite and pet friendly. Great Thessaloniki gem. Fresh mussels were stellar too!

We went to Maratos Tavern for live music and delicious food. Everything was perfect but I forgot my bag upstairs. When I went back to ask for my bag in the morning, I was hopeless. But they kept my bag in their bar and gave me at once. Thanks a lot again. I ll never forget Marathos Tavern😊

Kind staff and delicious food. We had a ice cream after our lunch for free. The cheese was great. The fries are ok, nothing special.

Super tasty Greek dishes and very nice personnel. 😊 The portions were quite big (for example one salad is enough for two people). We visited the place for lunch and the service was quite fast. At evening gets quite full (I guess because of the tasty food and great location).

There was just one unexpected thing - they charge for water and bread which was not ordered. It surprised me a bit because on some other places, they don't. On the other hand there was live music for the whole evening and dessert was free 😊

Today, while having lunch at restaurant Marathos, our experience was ruined by the restaurant host, a man in his 40s who was incredibly rude. He approached a table of guests at a nearby restaurant who were dining outside with their dog. The dog was simply being a dog, barking and greeting other dogs passing by, which is quite normal for outdoor dining areas where various noises are expected, including those from vehicles, animals, and music. However, the host suddenly approached one of the guests, who was enjoying lunch with his family and baby, and made a completely uncalled-for and offensive remark. He stated that in Greece, barking dogs must wear a mask. His behavior created an extremely unpleasant atmosphere for everyone nearby. As an employee whose primary responsibility is to welcome and assist guests, his behavior was completely unacceptable. Instead of attracting guests, he ended up attacking them, especially those who were not even guests of his restaurant. It's disappointing to encounter such a lack of manners in someone whose job is hospitality and politeness.

Located in one of the most beautiful parts of the city (Ladadika), the staff are polite, the food is delicious and the portions are worth the price. The Mix grill was excellent.

The host of this restaurant was the rudest person in the hospitality industry i’ve ever witnessed in Greece. Insulted a couple that was with a baby and a dog just because their small dog was barking occasionally.

Our favourite place for unique real Greek food! Meat and fish dishes and traditional plates in lovely atmosphere. Friendly and polite staff, ready to help you. Freshly made food in reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit.

As a history enthusiast, I was captivated by the museum's extensive collection and its ability to transport visitors back in time. With its remarkable exhibits and immersive displays, this museum offers a truly enriching experience for both locals and tourists alike.

An impressive collection that will fill hours of inquiry and reading. They also have an app that will guide you through the collection. Great mid-day or afternoon option when the heat of July/August season is upon the city.

Very good collection and display of archaeological treasures from the area, including beautiful examples of jewellery going back to the Neolithic ages. Some superb examples of funerary statues that are in beautiful condition. Definitely not to be missed.

After visiting Athens' museums with classical period artifacts you can get a totally different story from the Byzantine collections here. This museum is smaller than the one in Athens, but I think it presents its subject much better. Displays are more carefully constructed to tell their story. I enjoyed visiting and learned a lot.

Very clean and delightful experience. Plenty of history to look at. They offer a single day pass or a three day pass to visit other sites outside of the museum. There is air conditioning and plenty of languages available. The direct translations on the walls are green and English though. Staff is very friendly.

1. Thessaloniki archeological museum is situated centrally and we'll within many other museums and within walking distance of white tower. 2. The front desk is really helpful. Make sure you hand over your heavy luggages to the locker so that you can roam around the museum freely. 3. A flyer from the front desk will help you to install the museum app, which will give audio tours for selected display items. 4. Many interesting pieces including many ceramic items, sculptures, jewellery and remains of an embalmed lady is on display. 5. Prepare to spend around 3 hours of fun filled day if you are ready to enjoy the history to the fullest.

I love this museum!!! I’ve been to so many museums but this one is the only one that I came back twice within two days! I feel amazed by the ancient people’s wisdom and skill sets for making the gold jewelry. I couldn’t move my feet in front of those art pieces. Highly highly recommend!!!!!! Pls don’t miss it if you are here to visit.

Very nice & surprisingly large collection. When you first walk in, it doesn’t seem to be that big of a building, but the rooms are deep and contain a lot of really nice items. When you walk in, there is a temp check before you can buy a ticket. Make sure you use your forehead for the temp (and not your wrist like all of the other places) or they will yell and make you come back. No biggie. My favorite portion of the museum is the downstairs bit that has the pictures and drawing of Thessaloniki from antiquity. Some of them are room-size and very detailed so it’s easy to see and understand.

The entry is free for adults under 25. As a 25+ year old, you can get a 15 euro ticket to visit the Archeological Museum, the Museum of Byzantine Culture and the White Tower. The ticket in question is valid for 3 days! The staff is friendly and the the lockers are free. Very enriching experience. You’ll leave the Museum with a greater understanding Thessalonian culture!

One of, if not the best museum I've ever visited. Everything is clean, extremely well-organized and prepared, and there's a text in English to describe every artifact. Captivating all the way through, and mesmerizing really. I came there on a friend's recommendation, and wasn't disappointed. If you're interested in history, it's a must. I'm not even a history craze myself, though I loved it.

Many interesting tools and tomb accessories to see, also with the history of the city. But still they need to get some things straight while mentioning Turks instead of Ottoman Empire which does not add up according to the time periods mentioned.

A beautiful museum in the heart of Thessaloniki. I was truly impressed with the exhibits. The combined ticket for all the museums was very smart even though I didn't have time to go to them all. Awesome experience

Kind and helpful personnel. Great amount of historical and archeological findings. Informative descriptions and illustrations both in Greek and in English. If you want to read everything you would probably need 5-6 hours at least.

I suppose when you think about European history and art and architecture, you will think about Greece. Or about Alexander the Great and this place had a huge trove of information to share. It was also ironic that most of the lovely treasures were off their history tombs….which is not surprising as our historic knowledge is based on that. Which reminded me that the European culture pillaged the rest of the world from their land, people and resources. That they even realised the values of the tombs and the likes of civilisation of the world and pillaged them and took it to their own museum to show them. Now that is civilisation! Which was not the case here, just saying….

I really enjoyed this museum and thought it was better than the one in Athens. It doesn't have the quantity of large items on display but there are a lot of impressive smaller items, such as the gold head wreaths. Everything is well displayed and the explanations (in Greek and English) are very helpful. It was also nice not to have to deal with the crowds as in Athens.

History and mythology are intertwined in ancient Greece. This museum contains a nice collection that depicts both to shine a little light into life in ancient times around Thessaloniki Entrance fee is 8 Euros.

Nice place, if you are student, you don't have to pay for the entrance, for most of exhibitions. Info boards are in English, there is lot of tekst so it's hard to read everything during one visit. For me it was too dark for a little and I had problems with few boards, but maybe it's only my problem. Inside you can find toilets and gift shop with wide choice of products.

Fantastic museum documenting early to late Byzantine history of Thessaloniki. The museum is amazingly laid out and it's easy to understand every exhibition. They had beautiful icons. When I visited they had a wonderful temporary exhibition about an Armenian photographer who lost much of his family in the genocide. A must-see in Thessaloniki!

The collection on display is impressive and you can learn many things about the Byzantine period. If you want a better understanding of the history an a more chronological one, you can first go to Archeological Museum. The building itself is a must see! Such a good architecture,with subtle details and atmosphere; a delight for architects or anyone passionate about it.

Wonderfully laid out museum with Greek and English information throughout. It focuses on the Byzantine/ Christian era of the Macedonian area of Greece. It holds many stunning artifacts from Thessaloniki and surrounding areas. Tickets are €6 or you can get the combination ticket €15 which allows you entry into 4 attractions.

Very interesting museum on the Byzantine era! There are 11 different rooms that follow on from each other in a sequential order. A wide variety of religious, architectural and ceramic artifacts are on display. We took around 2 hours to complete the museum.

The museum has 11 rooms to visit, and each room is perfectly clean, beautiful, rich in artefacts, explanations, and history. There's also an audio guide (handheld phone device) in every major language, and the whole museum is well ventilated, and once again, extremely clean and spacious. There's a lot to see, the museum is included in a special package that costs 15€ for 4 different places in Thessaloniki (archaeology museum, white tower, byzantine culture museum, rotunda), which is a bargain. All in all, this museum is a must-see for every history enthusiast, and a pleasing endeavor for everybody else. Once again, the number of artefacts and findings, and the state in which they were kept is outstanding.

Basic museum of Byzantine Culture in Thesaloniki. The place has a lot of historical objects displayed, but something about the place does not give a curiosity spark. Moreover, it seems like some od the antic bowls, are not that antic. The small entrance fee of 5 euros, still does not the place worth the time.

It deals with current area from the early Christian (partially antique Greece) era to more modern medieval Christian era. Well planned out collection of Byzantine history from the 3rd century ce to 1453, and post Byzantine. Everything was presented well, with an audio guide (on your phone or separately) available. Staff very helpful. If you are curious about Byzantine history, this is a must see.

Byzantine museum in the greek cultural center of Thessaloniki. Entrance says official language was Latin. No evidence of this in the displays. All greek, as the entire roman empire spoke greek universally.

I went at 7:30 pm on one of the free museum nights (Aug 1 & 31 are free after 6:30 pm). I didn't know about these free nights, so that was a nice surprise. The museum stayed open until 11 pm, so I got to see everything and take my time admiring all the various collections. It was not crowded at all so it was a pleasant visit. The museum is beautiful, and uses a virtual reality app on your phone too for a more immersive experience. It's well maintained and I learned a lot about the early Christians and about Byzantine Culture. It's definitely worth the visit, and I would have paid had it not been free on the day I went. I would recommend this museum 100%. Check out the museum's social media for events free nights and other useful info.

I wish there was a better introduction to the Byzantine culture like what is it etc at the beginning itself. By the end you will become more familiar. The audio guide is quite detailed. I appreciated that you could borrow an audio guide If you did not want to use your phone to save data or battery life. The Greatest of the Great! Now words need to describe one of the best conquerors of all times. With a small army went to the far east at a time that was not possible. Do it too!

Alexander is riding towards Athens as shown with this magnificent monument. Many great symbols on the shields are shown next to this statue. Ancient symbols of mythological signs and the crests of major city states. This is my favorite attraction in Greece and I recommend visiting it and paying this man tribute by sitting in the relaxing and great park nearby. He united the feuding Greeks, Macedonians and other people to bring peace and harmony. He defeated quarreling lords who had mainly their own well-being, corruption or other bad ideals in mind and action instead of serving their fellow people as good leaders should do. Rulers who saw his good intention did not fight him. They submitted for the greater good. This man was called Alexander the Great and there was no other like him. 👑🌍

Alexander the Great, nothing else needs to be said. An imposing monument of enormous size that also has a plaque on it describing the struggle of a great warrior and leader. besides you have promoters who invite you on boat rides. A very unusual looking dog was lying in the shade created by the monument :)

This statue is not hard to find. Enjoy your stroll along Thessaloniki modern concrete sea walk. I would say an hour would do and try to catch it with sunset!

Went to visit during the morning on a weekday and had no problem going it. The price is €6 same as all the other places, but compared to the White Tower this was actually worth the money. There is a lot of history in this place and it is very well presented. The place has been a space of worship for many cultures and I was happy to see the roman mosaics still visible on the ceilings. They are well conserved still.

Beautiful frescoes and a fascinating building from the 4th century. It changed its purpose several times throughout history, changed religions too, one could say. One of the sights in the city I'd wholeheartedly recommend. The ticket costs 3€, you won't regret it. Remember to look up when inside!

A massive yet charming historical building that served as a temple, church and mosque. Amazing exteriir but nothing much to see inside as it's just hollow. Single ticket is 6 euro (not worth it in my opinion) while the combined ticket including the White Tower and the city 2 big museums costs 15 euro.

Beautiful historical site! Not very busy either, and free in Sundays. The architecture is very nice but the most interesting part is the acoustics - if you stand in the middle of the large hall and stomp your feet or make any sound it sounds super weird!

Another stunning ancient monument. 3 Euros/adult. We arrived 30 mins before closing and was able to complete exploring in 20 mins.

If you like ancient monuments, visit it. It used to be a pagan sanctuary later converted to a church. The original mosaic decoration can be seen inside. The building have a nice ancient atmosphere. Tip: If you plan to visit white tower and other museums, you can buy multi-ticket at a discounted price.

A very interesting and impressive structure to visit in Thessaloniki. Some frescoes still remain, and the building itself is eye-catching. However, I think it would appeal more to Byzantine fans, and there seemed to be ongoing renovation when we were there so a part of the rotunda was hidden / behind renovation materials

The Rotunda is an impressive Byzantine landmark that is a testament to the architectural capabilities of the Byzantine Empire. The building is a beautiful example of Byzantine architecture, and the interior is stunning. The dome is particularly impressive, and the mosaics and frescoes that still remain are a testament to the skill of the Byzantine artists who created them. We visited the Rotunda on a quiet midweek morning, and we had the whole place to ourselves. This allowed us to explore the building at our own pace and really appreciate the architecture and amazing acoustics of the place. There is not much in terms of exhibitions at the Rotunda, but the building and the few remaining mosaics and frescoes are worth visiting. If you are interested in Byzantine history and architecture, then you will definitely want to add the Rotunda to your list of things to see in Thessaloniki.

The detail in the stone carvings are incredible. We sat in the corner cafe to rest our weary feet as we imagined how life was like back in ancient times where the arch was connected by massive columns to the Rotunda. The Arch of Galerius most of the original stands on what is now in the central location of the city. The arch was dedicated in 303 AD to celebrate the victory of the tetrarch Galerius over the Sassanid Persians at the Battle of Satala. Romans made sure to commemorate their victories so their enemies would know this as well in Rome or elsewhere!

Impressive. A few steps away from the monument is the bus stop (bus X1, stop Kamara), which takes you to the terminus of the Macedonia Intercity International Bus Station. From the monument you can also get to the airport.

Mind boggles at the age of this city. Not the oldest in the region by a long shot but so impressive that there are so many existing buildings and ruins. Following the straight line of the city grid it would have been a view to behold at the height of its glory.

Kamara was built around 305 A.D. It was one of the arches of 4-arch building standing at the crossing of the Royal Road following today’s Egnatia street with the Parade road connecting the place with Rotunda. It was build by Caesar Galerius along with his palace to tell the story of his victories against Sassanides Persians. In time, the original 4-arch building was destroyed keeping only one part of its western front with half of the central arch and one smaller arch. Today it is a well- known monument called Kamara. With Kamara being the standard meeting point for parties who want to go out for coffee in Thessaloniki. “Let’s meet at Kamara”, is a common phrase among students and young citizens who have an afternoon rendez-vous there, so as to descend their way to the popular cafes and bars in the center of Thessaloniki. The 4-arch building had two similar fronts with two big central arches and two smaller adjacent ones. The spaces between the central arches was covered with a dome and the rest of the construction with double - sided roofs. Kamara is decorated with sculpted marbles narrating Galerius’ war achievements against the Persians.

One of the many roman remains in Thessaloniki you can visit on a city walk. Nice stonecarvings, lots of stories on the actual monument. Nice cafes around.

The Church of Agio Sofia - one of the oldest the church, built in 7th century. When I visited in April, there was no line. The bishop at the gate was very kind and knowledgeable. He gave me a brief history of that church. This church is UNESCO World Heritage site. It has many similarities in the architectural style of Constantinople (Istanbul, turkey) Hagia Sofia. Free entry. But I wish when people visit this church they can give/ donate few $$ for keeping it beautiful!

Very nice and big orthodox cathedral. With very beautiful icons everywhere. The body of an important orthodox saint is in a small chapel inside the church. Saint Basil the confessor. And there are 2 small chapels in the back of the church with beautiful iconastasis. Outside it is a beautiful sight of how big the cathedral really is.

What a Church- Cathedral! This is one OLD building, and been through so many changes of hands, kings, pashas, etc- but it's now Back to it's original Purpose as a Church, but with a amazing story of its own. Absolutely beautiful and 5 stars!!!!

This church went from Orthodox to Mosque to back to Orthodox. There's something special walking around it, and thinking how it changed, and that it's "knock off" of big Hagia Sofia in Istanbul. Very beautiful inside and for free 🆓

In the evening, we sat and rested in the garden of the beautiful Hagia Sophia. It was quite relaxing. One can light candles and pray on the right and left sides of the entrance door. Unfortunately, we couldn't go inside because we arrived late, but I'm sure it's very nice inside.

The inscriptions are related to the visit of the emperors in Thessaloniki, just before the 7th Ecumenical Council in Nicaea in 787, which decided the end of Iconoclasm. The majestic representation of the Ascension of Christ at the dome belongs to the second stage and more specifically in the end of the 9th century. It depicts Christ in the centre of a glory, supported by angels, while lower stand the figures of the apostles. Among them Virgin Mary, surrounded by two archangels pointing to the Divine Presence at the celestial dome. The mosaic of the enthroned Virgin Mary holding baby Christ, at the conch of the apse, which replaced a cross, belongs to the third stage, and more specifically in the 11th-12th century. At the narthex windows, there are parts of wall paintings of monk saints of the 11th century, among then Agia Theodora in Thessaloniki. Evliya Celebi wrote about Agia Sophia in 1667: “It was imperative for Thessaloniki, an important administrative, economic and ecclesiastic centre of Byzantium, to have its own Agia Sophia (Holy Wisdom) equal to the church of Agia Sophia in Constantinople. The surviving church was built in the mid 7th century on the site of an Early Christian basilica, and it served as the city Cathedral. The length of Thessaloniki’s Agia Sophia is one hundred and seventy-five paces. Its width, another hundred and twenty-five. The building is unique of its kind. On the left as you enter is there is a superb green pulpit – a rare work of art – is known to all travelers by land and sea as one of the most admirable monuments in the world”.

A stunning medieval cathedral that has been through a lot of changes over the years. Entrance is free and it’s situated next to many beautiful cafes, bars and restaurants, there’s really no excuse to miss it when in Thessaloniki. Wander the beautiful ornate interior and admire the wonderful icons and mosaics, the apses and windows, straight from the Constantinople school of architecture. Also, note that the bell tower was the base of the ottoman minaret. Incredible.

Ataturk (father of the modern Turkish nation) was born in this house. Even though there was political conflicts between nations, he was nominated to Nobel peace price by the Greek prime minister. According to Ataturk, peace is not important only in homeland, but also in the whole world. He was very impressive and charismatic among the world leaders. By the UNESCO, 1981 was announced as Ataturk year. In this house you can find information about his life and family.

Well worth seeing! Very good & interesting text panels, with not too little & not too much information. If you know & like Atatürk you should definitely visit this place! Admission apparently free (I'm from Germany & didn't have to pay admission)

Words fall short to describe this place. 🎩 Very well preserved. 🏡 Warm lovely ambiance with the pomegranate tree outside in the garden. 🌳 Next to the Türkiye consulate. 🇹🇷 The must visit place for every Turkish citizen in Thessaloniki and Greece in general. ❤️

It is the house where our ancestor was born and lived until he was 13-14 years old. The pomegranate tree in the garden was planted by his father Ali Riza Bey and Ataturk used to play under it as a child. Even touching that tree made me feel very beautiful. The part that impressed me the most is that after visiting the first two floors, when you go up to the last floor, as soon as you raise your head at the end of the stairs, you are faced with the wax statue of Ataturk in the opposite room, which seriously gives you goosebumps. It is open between 10:00-17:00 except Mondays, so if you are ever in Thessaloniki, you should definitely go and see it.

Interesting museum, the Turks are very proud of their national hero. Good background on his early life.Lots of photos and information on him as he progressed through his life. Heavy security for this little bit of Turkey on mainland Greece.

It is a precious,important and very impressive place for us as a Turk. We got so emotional. It was more meaningful for us because we knew our history, but better information can be provided for foreigners, for example, a brochure with short brief information can be given at the entrance. The library section at the bottom was a bit empty, Atatürk was a leader who read a lot. It would be better to organize the library part in a much better way.

This house, where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, was born and raised and lived for a short period in his youth, was gifted to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk by the Municipality of Thessaloniki in 1937. The house, which was opened as an Ataturk museum in 1953, reached its current state after the last restoration in 2010-2013. Even though it has many shortcomings in terms of museum management, I think it has an atmosphere that impresses its visitors and makes them think. Informative texts about Ataturk were prepared very well. Therefore, I recommend that you take the time to visit the museum and read the information about Atatürk's life and work. If you are going to meet him for the first time, I am sure you will be surprised to learn that such a forward-thinking and humane leader lived in the 20th century.

It is a must-visit place for every Turkish person, it touched me to see the building Atatürk was born in and see all the photos, videos. There are some personal items of Atatürk and some stories (if you are Turkish, you can recall most of them thanks to the primary school lessons) the explanations are in Greek, English and Turkish. There is no entrance fee, you can visit it for free.

I’m sure this museum is very important to Turkish people. However, it might not be interesting to an American tourist. However, despite that, it is small so it won’t take too much time to look through- so it won’t eat up your vacation time too much.

Standing in the room where he was born.. No need to words. Feelings topped! We are so lucky that we live under the shadow of his imaginary revolutions; even they were realized just after the WW II in the middle of Salvation War of Turkey.

That’s the symbol of our feelings and Turkish history, that’s the house we feel at home. I don’t know how it was before but still walking in the house makes me feel so happy and proud.

Ancient ruins in the middle of the city. Easy to walk here from nearby hotels with other attractions within walking distance. It is surrounded by park and open spaces and near some residential housing and shops. You can buy tickets to go in and see things closer and explore a bit. Or just walk around the outside and take pictures. Pretty unique site with example of Roman time toilet. Recommended!

The ancient city is revealed! A lovely stop at the center. A spot for coffee, drinks and lunch. Many great choices. Remains a cosy neighborhood especially for young people. At night time with a full moon is magic. Spring time is also fantastic!

The forum on its own is an interesting place. But do walk around to find the entrance to the museum that's beneath the forum! You'll learn much about the forum's history, its discovery and much more. The tickets cost 6€ and they are combined with the entrance to the Palace of Gallerius.

The experience of being in Thessaloniki goes hand in hand with live archeology and one can observe professionals at work sifting through for more treasure from times gone by. The Roman Forum is beautifully preserved and a great example of Roman settlement that is breathtaking to those who appreciate archeological sites at their best. I am sure that with time, there will be more information to read when there, preventing me from giving this a higher score

The ruins and building itself are beautiful, but too small for the 6euro entry fee.

When we visited here, it was closed due to restorations. However we could see it from the street side. Some biblical scholars believe it is the market place which is mentioned in the book of Acts 17:5 (NT), that apostle Paul and his companion was greatly pursecuted. Worth visiting if you're interested in the history.

One of the most important places to visit in the Thessaloniki. Wonderful environment and beautiful museum with rich and great organization of sculptures and other exhibits. Very polite and helpful staff, logical price and basically wonderful experience.

People stop posting pictures of the Rotunda of Thessaloniki its a totally different monument! Also this roman forums and everything around it has been shut down since at least 4 years, and not opening anytime soon; so you cannot visit it. The only thing open is the museum underneath it (indoor museum)

It may not look much and unfortunately not a lot of people go here, but it is a very big and nice museum. You have all the old Roman agora at your disposal to view and an underground museum as well (something that is not visible from the outside). For some reason when I visited there were no other people. I guess we tend to not appreciate what is at our fingertips

Amazing restoration work to have such a brilliant site which includes Roman baths, theatre, forum etc.There is a museum displaying archaeological finds... a but expensive at 8 euros. The information boards need to be cleaned up. A must see in Thessaloniki.

An exceptional museum about Jewish history in Thessaloniki. Reading through WW2 history was honestly quite moving, with detailed explanations for a large collection of items. Highly recommend visiting especially if you're from a country with not a lot of Jewish history like mine. No photos allowed inside!

Just visited this museum. The guide was amazing, he explained the history of the museum and the town as well as the history of Jewish history overall. It’s worth visiting for sure.

A small and charming museum, English signs and voice explanations in different languages after downloading an app. I learned a lot about the Jewish history of the city which went hundreds of years ago. Recommended and doesn't take more than an hour of visit.

Very nice museum dedicated to the Jewish community of Thessaloniki. The visitor can get a detailed view of how the community was organised, their traditions/ customs, and unfair destiny. Totally worth it

Very important museum, sadly a lot of documents are not translated into English or other languages and are in greek only. The ground floor exhibition is a bit messy, with no clear structure and too many QR codes to scan. I still highly recommend a visit, you should start the exhibition on the first floor.

Well designed displays and good explanations in Greek and English. I learned a lot about the city's Jewish history. The museum had a guard outside who let visitors in through the locked door. A good safety precaution at this time.

A detailed, informative and a true experience: it is like going back in time

A decent attempt to depict the history of the Hebrews of the city in a holistic way. Usually one has to wait for a short time, until being given entrance. There is a variety of exhibits from various historical milestones and as regards the most recent eras the experience becomes even more consummate. Overall it was a good experience.

Absolutely exceptional, breathtaking, and moving. The museum is perfectly organized, and there are explanations in English everywhere. The work that's been made to collect, preserve, and then present all the materials in here is just insane, and touching. For the QR codes as audio guides, I'm not a fan, but for the rest it's just incredible, and extremely instructive.

The museum itself was interesting but they are not welcoming at all, probably due to antisemitism in Greece which is fueled by Muslim migrants and their supporters. The security guy outside was very rude. It didn't matter that I'm Jewish. I have been many timed in Israel but security men there are usually polite with tourists. This guy did his job which is fine but he should not forget that Jewish heritage belongs to every civilized person, not only to him.

If you have been to the Byzantium and Archeological Museums, the War Museum brings you up to the end of WII. Again great amount of information in English and Greek, €4 entry. Lots of old photographs, weapons, uniforms, medals and awards of valour.

Excellent museum, especially for visiting with children. My boy was thrilled, especially since he could climb on the military jeeps.

Amazing museum with real like decorations. Exhibitions from 1821 to wprld war 2. Unfortunately in many cases there are no English texts only the greek ones.

Very nice museum with a rich collection of arms, uniforms and artillery, with details from various Greek wars. My 8 yo enjoyed it. For younger kids not amusing enough.

Very big museum with great exhibits. A very helpful person sold us tickets and explained what the museum had to offer. Downstairs has not English translations but those are the smallest exhibits. The rest have great pictures, life-like mannequins with army gear and helmets, and more! I feel like I have never seen so many types of guns in my life. Definitely a good option for people that want something outside as well. Cool jeeps and vehicles are displayed outside. Overall a great place to visit.

A diverse and rich museum of Greek military history. It is being delightfully renovated. Would have liked to see a selection of books in English about the subject that I could buy. Otherwise this was the perfect gateto another viewpoint of history. Love it

1. Great collection of weapons and historical items. 2. Students can get in with a reduced ticket of 2€. 3. All the information cards in the basement display items are in Greek. If they were in English as well, non Greek people could also enjoy them. 4. Nevertheless, enjoyed it thoroughly. Any gun nut or history nerd can spend hours in here.

A good range of exhibitions, covering a wide range of history. The basement exhibitions only have Greek descriptions, the other floors have English and Cyrillic. At only €4 for entry, it's good value for money.

Very well maintained and equipped museum. The history of the region and the country is well explained and don’t give you a headache. Guys at the ticket office are very friendly and willing to have a short chat if not occupied with ticketing. Great experience!

A war museum shows weapons, historical documents, and war-time pictures. I feel so fortunate that I am living in the peaceful era. Hopefully we don’t have war anywhere.

Best experience to do with kids. We all loved our time there. For tourists is a little bit tricky and tiring to get there. The bus stops far away from there.

Both the audio tour and the qr codes weren't working. So the English speakers are negleted as not everything had English translations. Also the Greek ancient technology wasn't interactive at all and behind glass. The ancient Greek technology museum in Athens is way better. Go there if you are a tourist.

We had a great time with the family! The kids were very enthusiastic! we spend 5 hours and we didn't catch to do all activities... It is a gem for Thessaloniki. A must visit for families! Τhe staff was super kind!

Amazing learning experience!!! We have watched the dinosaurs’ 3D program, we have visited the science playroom for kids and the car exhibition! My almost 7 years old wants to visit again and again! That tells it all! A truly learning experience and not just for kids!!!

I went at Noesis 1 week ago and I am surprised! There are no disadvantages at all! Some of it's advantages: it's a great experience for kids and adults! People who go there, decrease their knowledge within hours!!! In my opinion, it is a really great place to go, especially with kids!!

I was unsure of what to expect. This place is awesome, and I didn't even see any shows. I explored the automobile exhibit, which I thought was fantastic. Next, I explored the ancient technology exhibit that was even more enthralling. Very well presented. I will visit again so I can experience the planetarium and theaters. So much to see.
