The guy working here was friendly and realistic, he was appreciated. However , the boats themselves were filthy, felt like they were going to sink and an absolute chore to ride! Felt like we had done a marathon and the allotted time isn’t enough to relax, you have to pedal the whole time. No clear signage as to the right canal you’re on.

Nice service with a fair price! The boats however are very uncomfortable and they don't move that efficiently given the power used. It will absolutely take you the 2h they say, so don't think you can go super fast and finish sooner, especially in a sunny day. The view that boat offers is quite unique, especially the first part. In case you are short, you can use your backpack as an extension on the seat to be more comfortable, my girlfriend liked it.

Probably the most beautiful activity you can do when visiting Utrecht. Check their opening hours before you go. They are open April, May, June, September and October from Wednesday until Sunday 10h00-18h00. Daily in July and August. Closed November, December, January and February. This way you are never disappointed...

Really fun way to see the beauty of the canals! Would've preferred to have a short cut route option in case someone wants to end it early, as the usual route is 1.5 hrs

Went to Utrecht for a day out of Amsterdam. As a group of four we almost skipped this canal tour booth until one of us pointed it out. We each had to then pay an admission fee, but once that was done we were to hop onto a four man pedal boat and explore the canals of this Dutch city. We were completely blown away with the views and overall friendly atmosphere of the city. The ride takes about 90 minutes but you get to see so much at your own pace and have a fun time doing it.

Super fun and cheap way to see the city from the water! It was only about 9 euro per person for an hours time (which was plenty).

Very easy and nice way to see the canals in Utrecht. Yes you must pedal yourself but for us this was way better than sitting on a boat packed with other tourists! And cost effective with different canal choices you can make yourself. So easy to book and pick up your boat as well.

Reservation was from the website. Three routes; red - the longest, yellow - 1.5 h, blue - the shortest. It was worth seeing Utrecht from this side 😉

It takes an hour to walk top to bottom. The walk up is broken up into stages of 3 or four stops. The guides are very informative and open to questions. It was in Dutch and English on our trip up. The tower is covered in scaffolding due to restoration work that in due to finish sometime in 2024. Still worth it. 12.50€ per person.

Located in the center of the city and being the landmark of Utrecht and the tallest church tower in the Netherlands are enough reasons to want to visit this great tower. It might be tiring to get on top and a little bit clestophobic but the view of the city i totally worthy of them. The guided tour was great and you learn great information about the history of the city and its changes in time.

Utrecht trip is not complete without visiting the tallest church tower in the Netherlands. Even though the work in continuing, it is possible to go to the top of the tower. The panoramic view of Utrecht from there is marvelous. Be ready to walk 450+ steps!! The tourist information service and the guides are doing an excellent job, they explain the history and the details so well. Hats off to them !!

Had a really nice tour guide show us all the way up the tower - almost 500 steps! From the top of the 112m tall tower you have an excellent view of the city. Make sure to come early so that slots for tours are still available.

Dom Tower is amazing if you love history and architecture! Unfortunately it's under construction but it is still worth a visit! The stairs to the top are a challenge for those not used to waking vertically 😄

The landmark of Utrecht! Can’t wait for the maintenance to be completed in 2024 and for the scaffolding to be removed. Still a beautiful site though and a great climb to the top.

Climbed it on the 1st of July. First day it reopened after some time. It was my 4th or 5th time that I climbed it. It’s always a nice experience climbing the stairs of the tower and the explanation that the guide gives on the three different levels where you have a short break before reaching the top. But at the end the main attraction is the view from the top. With the construction still going on the view is limited. Be aware of that! But if your main goal is to learn about the history, see it from the inside and having the experience of climbing to the top then you will not be disappointed.

I visited Dom Tower on a Friday afternoon and took the guided tour of the tower. The tour involves climbing up ~460 stairs to reach the top of the tower along with a tour guide and we stop at 4 stages inside the tower. The stairs get narrower as we climb up and it can feel claustrophobic but the view of the city from the top of the tower is breathtaking! It is an amazing experience to see the giant bells of the tower from close quarters. Kudos to the guide for being so well informed; she gave the tour in both English and Dutch and had the answers to all the questions from the group about the history of the tower. The only con is that the tower is undergoing restoration work till 2024 so the entire tower is obstructed by scaffolding.

A must visit when you explore Utrecht. Even with the construction which prevent you from going all the way to the top, its worth it. Beware, you will have to climb up the stairs which could be quite challenging and it one of the most fun tour I’ve gotten. You feel feel accomplished by having climbed the tower. Also, not expensive and quite the experience!

Magnificent cathedral. We didn't visit the tower. Entrance in the cathedral is free, but you can donate by card or in cash. On our visit there was a classical music concert.

The iconic landmark of Utrecht. Currently it is only possible to enjoy the top of the tower. The full restauration of the tower would be finished in 2025. It is visible from most places in the city and it is the tallest tower of its type in the Netherlands.

A great guided tour brings you to the very top of this landmark. Unfortunately it was rainy and foggy so the spectacular view was limited. 465 steps, no elevator. Not for the faint-hearted.

Tour guide was great at explaining the history of the tower. Do keep in mind that the view at the top was disappointing due to the current scaffolding (which is only coming down in 2024) if you plan on visiting soon.

The tower is under construction until spring 2024. If, ahead of the visit, I'd realised that the scaffolding obstructed the view so badly I would have avoided going all the way up the 460+ stairs it takes to get up to the top and came back when it was all removed. Would have rated 5 stars otherwise. That being said, the guide was great, very knowledgeable and gave the tour in both English and Dutch. It was great being in the bell tower and being up close to them. The stairs on the way up get progressively narrow and claustrophobic on way up and can be exhausting so do bear that in mind too before going up.

Great museum about the history of the railroad in the Netherlands. The exhibition is extremely large and is ideal for children and adults. I especially liked the historic station building and the various interactive elements. What was great was that I was also able to enter various carriages. Visitors should plan four hours for the exhibition. The on-site team was extremely friendly and helpful. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or in advance online.

A great and big museum for all railway fans. But also if you are not a big fan, you will find here something interesting. So I really recommend it for everyone.

Happy to be back and to see that the museum is still evolving.. in a positive way for sure. The new “Iron Giants” ride is gorgeous. As always, the trains are polished until you can see yourself and the depth of information is great.

Me and my friend visited this museum and we really enjoyed it. All the history of Netherlands train can be seen here. There was a show as well which was in Dutch but very funny and really nice experience. I recommend you to visit it and don’t miss it.

An excellent day out. They are renovating the back section at the moment, so the miniature railway ride and freight train simulator experience are both shut, but the rest of the museum was still well worth visiting. The Steel Monsters exhibit was very well put together. The day we visited (a weekday in April) was relatively quiet. It was nice that they still put on a train from Utrecht Centraal to the museum even when it isn't overly busy. Great for families! The kids science sections were a hit, some really thorough explanations on how trains work!

We went to the winter wonderland here and had the best time. Activities included ice skating, a carousel and a family photo! There was also a show on outside. We enjoyed the fresh hot donuts and toasting our own marshmallows. Highly recommend this place. Staff were friendly too.

We went to this museum with my 5 year old son at the weekend. Access to the museum is really easy, walking distance from Utrecht Centraal train station. If you are coming by car, it has its own parking lot right in front of it. You can use this car park for 9.50 Euros. Museumkaart is valid. Inside, you can find everything about trains. It is also very fun for children because there are some special activities for them. For example, there is a special little train and dresin for them in the children's playground outside. You can take a journey from the first steam train in the Netherlands to the present day. You can also go 200 years ago with a time machine and visit a Dutch town that existed at that time. We spent about 4 hours and I advise you to spend at least half a day here.

This is a brilliant destination, whether for a family or an individual visitor. So much to see, with an excellent cafeteria to have a break from walking around. The knowledgeable staff are approachable, and they share their expertise freely. A great place to spend 2-4 hours!

A great place to visit whether you like trains or not ! Just a wonderful way to know more about this means of transport for kids and adults. I would have love to have a section dedicated to what is needed to make a train function properly. The steel monsters attraction was a bit to light. It is worth the visit !

Loved the experience. A great experience and ticket price is rewasonable. Its a big area with trains of different eras, great experience sections of old mines/workshops, time travel and lab. It has wide variety of cafes and sitting space. Keep time margin of minimu 3 hours to explore fully inside and also wear comfy shoes so that you can enjoy easily. Simply beautiful and informative experience. Highly recommended for people who love history, want to explore evolution and children education.

what could possibly be a really dull museum os perked by some really fascinating exhibitions. some might be a tad scary for little kids (the Steel Monster ride was a bit scary for this big kid!) but overall a really fun, interactive and tangible look at the history of the railway. A great place to bring kids. the parking was plentiful (but in fairness it was a slow day).

One of the best museums I've been. It's good to go with kids because they have a lot of activities and playgrounds for them, also a small train for them. They have a huge variety of real trains with inside decorations.

Most of the people that I saw in the museum, were adults with little kids. As a guy (single 😉), I came alone and really enjoy the time here. I use the train a lot in my days, so to witness the history in a fun way was a blast. All on board!! 🚂

Great museum for kids, they absolutely love it. Has a couple of nice attractions as well: virtual reality train driving, a small ride, elevator that brings you to ancient times. The only thing that was disappointing was the actor in the Theatre who clearly did not like kids which he expressed for about three times.

We loved it. The winter station was awesome and there were a lot of activities for kids. The skating rink is awesome with enough space for kids and adults. The collection of trains is great with some very unique carriages. Many places to eat. Easily accessible. No nearby bus stop but there is a sprinter from Utrecht Centraal which runs every hour.

I highly recommend seeing this museum if you come to Utrecht. We decided to pay a visit as the weather wasn't great and we weren't disappointed at all. It's huge inside with so much to see and do. Super interactive activities for the children and lots facts to be learned. They installed a winter station as it's Christmas so it's a bonus. There were ice rink and eat and drink places. We came after 3pm so only 10 Euro per head to be paid as a discounted fare (but you have to reserve your place online in advance during festive season). Both adults and children would thoroughly enjoy it.

It's a beautiful museum with lots of history on trains. It's also a nice place for kids. There are lot of fun things to do for kids. Unfortunately kids part and train ride was closed for renovation and will be opening in Autumn. There is a special train from Utrecht Station which directly goes into the museum.

Very large museum for kids, parents and train enthusiasts. You could easily spend a half day there. The Speeltuin was under construction but we look forward to seeing the new one. They also have a cafe with lots of different food options from coffee, snacks to lunch.

A must visit museum with the kids with lots of prestige and history behind it. There is a lot to play and enjoy for the kids. The free photo clicked during Christmas time was the perfect gift for the family.

They did a good job of soundproofing. The doors are heavy, rooms are well insulated, and several of the open spaces are enclosed in clear walls to trap sound. They really outdid themselves. You can enjoy each room without hearing another. The sink in the wc is interesting as well; you must turn it at the nozzle. And yes, the tour and music displays are cool.

What an incredible and interesting museum! The tour was great because it gave us a chance to listen to some of the instruments and get a better understanding of the history behind them. However there is so much more to see all around, so take your time to explore. Our kids loved it too! Once you finish you can stop at the cafe (they are very friendly) in the museum and listen to some of the instruments there as well!

Fantastic museum housed in an old church in the heart of Utrecht. Some of the 15th century wall paintings can still be seen. There is a great collection of all types of mechanical music-making devices, such as automatons, pianolas, organs, and clocks etc. The guided tour was excellent and given in both Dutch and English. During the tour, you get to see and hear the various organs working. It was well worth a visit. It is also an great place to take children.

Good museum for children as well adults if you have a fascination for old music boxes and those big music vehicles seen in town fairs in the good old days. The staff are very friendly and speak English and throughout the day there are multiple guided tours where the guides speak in both English and Dutch. Children can have a first hand at creating music too.

Absolutely worth it ! We had a great experience in this museum. The guided tour was very informative and entertaining. It could get loud ! But if you enjoy music and are curious about how those music boxes work, this is the place for you!

It is a musical place with vintage collection of clocks. I highly recommend the guided tour. It is given in both Dutch and English every hour starting from 10:30. The entry is free with the museum card.

Wonderful experience! The free guided tour explained and demonstrated a number of self playing musical instruments, its history and working. The display of several well-described self playing instruments were really informative, and makes one appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering skills of those times.

The Museum Speelklok located in the city centre is definitely worth a visit! I would recommend taking a free guided tour that is offered at half past every hour (these are in Dutch as well as English) - the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and gave us some interesting background information on the self playing musical instruments and played them, which would otherwise not be possible to see. The tour itself does not cover the entire museum, so you will have plenty to explore on your own afterwards as well. I would recommend planning around 2 1/2 hours for the visit. 🎼

Very fun museum! As others mentioned, be sure to take the guided tour (maybe even twice!) to hear a selection of the delicate museum pieces played live - these are musical devices after all! Staff was very polite and the tour was given in multiple languages. Would definitely go again!

Excellent displays and layout, our tour guide was happy to give the tour in English as well as Dutch since he had Dutch patrons as well. He spoke excellent English and explained the displays in an interesting way, and was happy to answer questions. Great variety of displays and all are fascinating in their own way. Great place for English speaking tourists as all the placards and descriptions are in Dutch and English, and there are English audio tour cards. For anyone interested in music, history, and old machinery, a neat destination.

A beautiful museum. I wanted to go for sometime and one days while walking around i entered in with my museum card. I was mesmerised to the big musical instruments and history of place. There are quite some old kloks as well. Some activities for children of how to create instruments are there. There is a guided tour of museum ever 30 to 60min. In this trip a guide comes. They tell the story in dutch and engels and play all big iconic instruments. It has canteen as well. Good 1.5hr activity in center of Uthrecht.

A lovely museum set in a delightful building. There is a great presentation of a wide range of automated toys from history but the fairground music machines are stunning and the guided talk is very informative. To hear the machines play is incredible.

Take the guided tour with your ticket! My experiences with museums have always been boring, but the tour guides do an amazing job of keeping it interesting by playing the music boxes in person. The guided tours are in English as well as Dutch! I highly reccomend visiting, if not for the history but the great tunes that are played on these fascinating devices.

Good experience to know history about music clock. How were the people who created them. Unbelievable. Oh! There is also a game that looking monkey and make a music. Nice to bring kids there.

Great museum! The guided tour gives an extra dimension to this museum and shows the music of the different clocks and street organs, combined with the explanation of the guide this is an extremely interesting ~45 minutes. The guided tour brings you only to one-third of the museum, the other parts you can visit yourself. There are also interactive automated music machines in the museum that you can power yourself, as well as many explanations for the different clocks and street organs. The museum accepts the museumcard. Also, there seems to be some activities for kids in the museum.

Really great place where to stop, start or even just change the train on the journey. The station is modern and well designed for everybody. The information is easy to see and get it. Everything is clear and understandable. There is also a bunch of stores where to buy some snacks, drinks, or whole meals. Fantastic experience, thank you🌴

Big, clean and modern train station. Connection to busses and other transport. Loads of shops, and coffee bars as well as shops. The station is close to a huge shopping mall and just a few minutes walk from the beautiful center of Utrecht.

Passed through Utrecht Centraal station en route to Germany from the Netherlands in late April 2023. Large modern station with many shops and eateries. Easy to navigate.

What a pleasure to change trains here. A bright airy station with many businesses within. I felt safe well informed and there were plenty of staff around to ask questions of if needed. There are good train destination boards that are easy to read and the signage is simple to follow. Stopped for a very nice coffee in one of the small shops. There is also a book exchange which looks nice and is very mature.

Good and well decorated station. Many shops like in a shopping mall. Night view was awesome. Locker facility in the station as well which was good. Locker is self check in and check out...which is very cool...Good Connections with trains and busses across Europe

The largest train hub in the country. Very busy always but they do have many shops and restaurants for when you have to wait for your train. There is a very large waiting area in the main hall too. Nice wide platforms and cleaner than some smaller stations in our country.

One of the best train stations in the Netherlands I have seen so far. Have a wide linked train between the main cities in the country. Clean and tidy, the security officers are everywhere there and make it more safe.

Beautiful modern station in a central location. The connection by public transport is super convenient. There is also a huge bicycle garage. Various stores and restaurants are available. More than 20 tracks accessible by escalator as well as elevator. The whole station is very clean. A highlight for all train fans.

One of the most beautiful designed railway station. It's a more or less a super Mall. Beautiful architecture design, light works, restaurants and amazing surrounding buildings. Its looks more beautiful in night when lights are on. Love the beautiful place. Well done.

When I went it was closed for King's Day. But it is small and easy to walk around. Surprisingly excellent condition for being 100 years old. The admission ticket is crazy expensive at €19 so I likely would have skipped the inside tour even if it had been open. What were Utrecht officials thinking when they built that expressway across the street!?!?

Wonderful experience, I have only seen it in books, so it was an experience I will never forget. A must visit for design lovers not just if you're into architecture. This place take you in time while being the future. I really can't describe it.

Amazing house from 1924. The entrance is free if you have a museum card, if not you'll have to pay around 14 euros, which are totally worth it. I hope you can get the demonstration on the 'day' and 'night' house arrangement. Try to make an appointment online. The house is amazing and super beautiful

Must see for every furniture and architecture enthousiast. The guides are very friendly and share their knowledge. Free audio tour and we even got a full demonstration of the moving wall panels. Rietveld made a masterpiece in 1923-24.

One of the greatest architectural attractions to see in Netherlands. It really impressive to see something so progressive in the pretty conservative neighborhood. You should pay attention to working hours and book tickets in advance because they have a tight schedule with groups and short working hours. Tickets can also be bought next door. People working there are kind are ready to explain everything. There is a nice coffee shop on the right and paid street parking is in front of the property. Definitely worth a visit.

Great museum in quiet nice area. All people worry here are very polite. Visit with museum card is free, but you have to make an appointment in advance on the website. You can take photo and watch a movie. They maintain the condition of the furniture well and demonstrate how all the objects perform their function. In addition, they give an audio guide for free. There are many people on weekend. I don’t like they have book only on Dutch.

It is a must visit for architects and modernists. At 140 Sqm you can only spend so much time there! Rietveld would benefit from a much bigger visitor centre in Utrecht

A great experince of a beautiful functional house! Worthwhile visiting the interior.

The house is a must see. You probably have never seen a house like this; inside nor outside. They’ll give you a free audio guide. This way you can follow the route from downstairs till upstairs. Following the audio tour, the route only takes you about 30-40 minutes. Don’t forget to ask if they can show you the sliding walls upstairs. This makes the experience a lot more interesting. Right next to the house, you’ll soms the old garage. This has been transformed into a coffee cafe. I would definitely recommend to get a coffee and a snack :)

One of the best museums in the Netherlands, with several nice exhibitions every year, most of them really well curated. The building itself is amazing, it has a beautiful garden and a little restaurant. Charging place for electric vehicles and a nice museum store. Tip, on the last floor you can visit the the permanent exhibition of the studio of Dick Bruna, the creator of nijntje👌🏼

Went to the reopening of some part of the museum and I must say, I loved the place! The museum contains a great mix of really interesting, beautiful and unusual exhibits. They are presented in an innovative way, which makes the tour through the museum very engaging. Totally recommend.

Truly amazing museum. Both an amazing expo about African fashion and some beautiful pieces of art. Finding the way might be quite challenging but still a sight to behold.

Modern art (mostly media) museum combined with traditional Dutch paintings (interesting in my opinion). Most of the museum is undergoing a renovation, so there is not much to see, but still it is an interesting experience. I was not a big fan of the video installations -- most of them depicted pain in one form or another. However one of them particularly made my trip to this museum worthwhile: the videos shot during the Congo civil war. I was very touched by what I saw, and the display of several screens in various angles of the room added to a different experience of the story. These videos were shout using an oldfashioned camera that was used during the war to exposed camouflaged soldiers, and it inverted green to pink. And so these videos are showing lots of bright pink. They are full of horrors, coffins, kids with guns, a new born being resuscitated, displacement camps in the middle of nowhere full of tents, people, children. It's hard not to be touched by these tragedies... I found myself almost crying after awhile, I had to get out. But what an experience that was! And what a perfect reminder to do your part in the world and to appreciate the heck out of what you have...

It's a great museum. Only downpoint was that due to partial reconstructions not all areas where open. Check out what's on display before you go to make sure it hits your taste.

Perhaps because some parts of the museums were renovated at the time of our visit, most of the exhibits we get to see is about Utrecht as the center of culture and art (plus the Utrecht boat in the ground level, which reminded me of remains of boats in Swedish museum). However, the best part for me would be the Bruna exhibition at the top floor (since Nijntje museum across the street is catered towards very young children)... Miffy/Nijntje character and Bruna's works are captivating. Would love to go back and visit when the renovation is finished.

Very nice modernist. We went there at the opening day with a lot people. The exibition shows old paintings beside modern art. This is a good idea to fresh it up for visitors. Also a lot artists shows collagen and present their arts. In the parallel building was an chair-exibition with a lot artistic architectual stooldesigns. We spend about 3 hours there. The museum has also elevators. You have to climb otherwise a bit over 3 levels - 4 with the roof. I like also the great implementation of this museum in the historical building - well done🏰🏛.

My favourite museum I went to in NL. Such a great collection of both local and further afield artists. I loved the museums art project with the small canvases too. I would definitely come back in the future for more exhibits. Great mixture of old and modern art (though mostly modern) 🫶

really nice business mode, a small place and almost nothing fancy and electric, you only need to hire 1 or 2 stuff to organize toys from time to time. I can give a 4 star because the kids under 5 can really have fun here.

Buy tickets ahead for weekends and holidays! Museum was booked out for morning tickets, more availability on afternoons. Lovely and passionate staff. Our preschooler loved it, toddler too. Ideal for 7 and under probably. Great transportation and mobility room. Very versatile craft room. It would be nice to have baby seats to hold babies when parents use the WC. Limited parking in the area.

I went to this place with not a lot of expectations, I didn't know the character and thought it was just a way to get tourist money. However seems as this is a place that locals with little kids visit frequently and I know definitely why. For kids from 1 to 8 or so it would be an awesome experience.its plenty of activities to do for them. They are going to enjoy a lot touching, smelling, playing... Awesome place for little kids that you shouldn't miss if you are here . Besides you have a place inside for a coffyor bite that we didn't try, but that it looks very convenient.

A great place for babies. I guess starting from 8 months you can come here. Very nice girl asked ask if we have any discount cards I said only if you have any discounts for refugees from Ukraine and they made us free entry after showing our passports. It's very nice from their side. A lot of children all around the world come here and it's really nice place to play with your child.

It is located in the center of Utrecht so walking is the best choice. FYI: the parking garage de Grift hoek is a great parking choice as it is reviewed as having low break ins and is a 15 walk away. If you have a museumkaart, entrance is gratis(free). It is a great place for the little ones to explore. There are some displays giving information about Nijntje and other related things. The museum caters to children. There are bathrooms, changing diaper area, lockers and a small cafe inside. It is the perfect activity to do if parents need a break. Online tickets online in advance.

If you want to call it a museum at least have more than stands with drawings. I felt like I was going to get run into by kids that were running around due to it being so crowded. Uninteresting if you're not a child anymore and the staff literally give you no implications that this isn't for childless adults. If I do have children I would take them to a McDonald's because the hygiene may be better. Please to god change that god awful name to something else other than "museum"!!

If you love Miffy this is your heaven. The only down side is that it is full of kids of course. It can be quite loud and overwhelming. Besides that perfect and very cute. The gift shop is across the street. Also you have to book tickets online.

Great for little kids up to 5. This place is so adorable. As an adult, it helps you guide your kids to learn about different things in their environment like the hospital, petting zoo, and the traffic rules.

Nice place for the kids to spend 1-2 hrs. max. You shouldn't expect too much as a museum though. I was thinking that we might see some interesting stuff while the kids are playing but almost fainted... Good for kids up to age 4. Esp if they love nijntje, then it's definitely a good experience for them.

For Toddlers. My 4 year old enjoyed it throughout. It's in a small area but neatly managed. You have enough space to leave strollers, free lockers to store your stuff and well maintained kid-friendly washrooms. You have a cafe attached for quick coffee. If your kid is a miffy fan it's a must visit place. I would recommend booking the slot online if you plan to visit on the weekend. You can easily engage the toddlers for 2-3 hours. There are few interactive stuff, a lot of pretend plays, story telling space with books, space for craft and coloring. If you have time I would recommend visiting speelklok museum that is just back of this one.

The transport room is like a battlefield, there's no queue for kids to get on the tricycles so they will have to battle/negotiate for it. The weak kids will never have a turn to play. I mean, it's a good way to learn how to negotiate but we came to the museum to experience, not to battle with kids and their parents. It would be nice to have a queuing place or some staff helping with kids playing in order.

We brought our twin toddlers and they loved it! It's like being inside the books and videos of Nijntje. The spaces are separated by themes and there are a lot of interactive games for the kids. I can see that their loved it (by the end of the day they were exhausted). I am also surprised how the whole Nijntje topic is reflected in the museum very well. Kudos! Booking is very preferred, since tickets are sold out on the door.

My daughter absolutely loved this place as there was lots to do. The museum itself is dedicated to Miffy the rabbit who was created by Dick Bruna who lived in Utrecht! All of the learning zones were interactive, bright and colourful. The cafe even had Miffy chairs! More importantly, staff were amazing!! Thank you.

An elderly lady acting like the teacher of a primary school who is there to school you rather than being your tour guide. Imagine you are the last person in a row (you must move in a row most of the times as it is a narrow path towards the exist). An elderly lady standing on your tail so you can't walk back for just a second to look at something you just passed because it was so crowded so you couldnt check it out in the beginning. The lady is telling you "Can you please leave? Another group is coming." and refusing you to go literally 5 steps backwards. While you still wait 5 more minutes to be able to leave the place due to the people infront of you anyways.. But she succeeded on doing her job and enforcing rules, even when it didn't make sense.. Welcome to the Netherlands. The commitment to enforcing the "rules" is on a level that is close to autism, rather than letting people enjoy the experience they paid for. I recommend reconsidering your manner.

Fairly interesting to go underground and see what the foundation stones of Romans and gothic churches look like. But I didn't find it too exciting as there was a 20 to 30 minute lecture before going underground. You'll be given a torch and headset for a guided audio tour while underground. The whole visit took about 60 to 90 minutes. Good place to visit if you have time, otherwise you wouldn't miss out on much if you skipped this place.

The first 30 min of the tour was explanation about the history of the Dom. The second part was the walking around the excavated site. The site itself is small and probably won’t excite everybody. But if you are into history, then it is interesting enough.

The explanation before the tour, is interesting, telling the story of Utrecht and the Dom Square. There are two guides - an older guy leading the Dutch speaking group, and a woman leading the English speaking group. The English speaking guide was great and her explanations were interesting, she was good at engaging the group and answering any questions we had. Once the explanation is over you are led to the excavation itself, which is supposed to be the main event, but it's much less interesting than the explanation makes it sound like. It's quite dark, they show a short movie, then give you lamps with an earpiece, you point it at sensors scattered across the room and they play a short audio clip with an explanation. Dutch speaking people get a head start, English speaking people have to wait until after the movie for the headpieces to be set to English. After I got mine I found out it was still in Dutch, so I politely said "excuse me, this is in Dutch". The guide who led the Dutch speaking group was extremely rude and blamed me for it. This ruined the whole experience for me. All in all, I feel like this was an underwhelming experience and I would not recommend it unless you really have nothing better to do. If you go make sure not to interact with the rude guide.

Knowledgeable tour guides and interactive exploration of the archeological site immediately in DOMplein. Felt like using laser tag. An innovative way of getting people to pay closer attention to the exhibit.

The tour guide was really friendly and explained everything well. He was quite humorous too. The archaeological remains underground was interesting although it felt a bit curated. Would have liked it to be more "authentic". Nevertheless, we did learn more about the history of Utrecht. The underground exploration was relatively short as well.

Had the tour been condensed by half, both in duration and cost and focused more on the subsequent visit to the area beneath the Dom tower, where we could witness ruins and experience the innovative use of sensors to trigger informative audio clips through flashlight activation, I would have been more satisfied. My suggestions for the tour organizers and guides include relocating the introductory session to the spaces between the church's interior and the square behind the Dom Tower. As the provided information mainly pertains to the evolution of this area across different historical periods and their respective ruling authorities, this setting would lend a more authentic backdrop to the narratives. In conclusion, the fundamental elements of the current tour were appreciated. I believe it could become a significantly more appealing experience for tourists interested in archaeology. (My partner and I participated in the English-language tour in July 2023.)

Nice museum. One star less because of restricted time to spend- I didn't have enough time to see/listen to everything. And you can't stay longer. Big plus for free lockers. Cappuccino in cafe was cheap but not good. Staff is very nice and museum is worth seeing.

Very interesting tour with a great introduction. The staff was able to answer all my questions and explain everything in simple, understandable terms. The visit underground was very beautiful and informative. However, the time we got underground was too short. There is an audioguide, and I was not able to listen to all the clips before having to head out because the next group was coming. The total length of the underground time was shorter than the audioguide, so I missed like 30% of the info. Overall, I would give the introduction 5/5, but the underground experience 3/5.

Interesting underground history of the Dom and Utrecht. From Roman times to the present, with plenty of ancient markers to show for. The 'investigating in the dark' approach makes you dive into history.

Utrecht has a rich history spanning 2000 years, and here you get a short, yet good introduction to that history while you can have a look around underground at some of the excavations. Highly recommended! Plenty to do in the area as well.

The Catherine's Convent Museum is located in the former St. Catharine convent. It is a museum of religious art mainly coming from the collection of the museum of the Catholic Archbishopric of Utrecht. It is a small museum with a charming cafe. You can easily spend 2-3 hours there.

There were some cool pieces here. I was especially surprised by the treasure room and amount of old paintings. Was not a big fan of the more modern installations though. The building is beautiful but it's too bad you can't see too much of it when you're walking around. If you're in the vicinity i would recommend visiting it, but not going out of your way.

I am not religious and for me it was a bit depressing but that has got to do with the fact that i find church depressing. The exponates however where very interesting

Overall, Catherijne Convent provides an interesting journey through the intersection of faith (Christianity) and science. Specially the second part was of interest to us and provoked good discussion w our teenagers!

This is a beautiful medium sized museum. Usually it will take 2-3 hours if you go into details a bit. It nicely illustrates the Christianity in Netherlands. Unfortunately ALL the labels are in Dutch without English translation! There is an English audio headset that you can borrow from the front desk but it only has very few items in English and does not include all the labels. Regardless, you can still enjoy the collection. I was there at the time of a temporary exhibition about Maarten Luther, there was no audio translation but a text book to follow the description, which was helpful.

Very nice museum with some sections having an audio guided tour. I saw some Rembrandt in there which was nice. I like the elevator feature (takes you to 3 floors of the museum) though I noticed most people still chose to go by the stairs. The gold and silverware (chalices, altar decorations, and candle holders, etc.) were amazing. I’m glad I stumbled upon the museum first before attending the [English] mass at 12:30 at the Catharijne Cathedral.

We grossly underestimated the size of the exhibitions. If you are planning on visiting, make sure you allow yourself a few hours to go through it. Although the pieces in their collection are exceptional this museum is definitely aimed at a specific audience.

A museum dedicated to christian Catholic art is perhaps not the most obvious choice, but I must admit that the artefacts are of superior quality and the museum itself brings them even more into the picture. And then you haven't seen the temporary exhibition yet... we were lucky as 'Gospel' was splendid. You receive headphones, which allow you to enjoy at your own speed the numerous videos and audio fragments. You go along a journey from the songs originated from slavery up to the rock and roll. Top!

be prepared! you pay entry for the museum, then an extra price for the antwerp exhibition. The trick they pull is having to pay more for a catalogue if you want to know anything about the exhibits. Also, the audio guide I had seemed to be for a different museum, so probably not bother with that. The staff are not welcoming and pretty much unhelpful. The cashier had me wait til she finished reading the article in her magazine before taking ny payments. This spoils an otherwise rrasonable exhibition.

We went to visit the (temporary) Gospel exhibition. This exhibition has been carefully curated and shows tells the history of gospel. It focusses mainly on a few "heroes" of gospel, whose stories are told very thoroughly, but sometimes that takes away from the story high-over and makes that recent history is a bit more overlooked. The museum as a whole has a clear theme: it focusses on Christian art and history. There is so much to read, view and listen to (even the Gospel exhibition alone could take you hours). When visiting Catharijneconvent, make sure you take the time and decide on forehand what you want to see, as not to become overwhelmed. It's a good museum in their niche topic, but it is quite niche and signage and routing is not always very clear and many texts are quite small, so audience information could be a little more inclusive.

An amazing experience! We went spontaneously with two kids (6,11) and my mother in law and surprisingly spent there more then 3 and a half hours. Gorgeous park with a small treasure hunt activity for the kids. Highly recommended! We'll absolutely come back to check it out in other seasons and entry is free with museums card!

Can't believe I haven't visited these gardens before. So lovely and beautifully maintained with excellent signage (much of it also in English). Small children will love all the paths to explore. I visited early in the season, but looking forward to going back later in the year to see more. Easy to get to by bus or tram.

One of the most beautiful and enjoyable botanical gardens I've been to. Such an amazing diversity of flora and fauna, loved every bit of it. It really felt like it was made to be enjoyed and savoured by people, with benches in strategic places with a beautiful view, for whenever one wants to take a break and take in the beauty of their surroundings. The butterflies were incredible, just be careful around them to not disturb or touch them. Also there were some "crazy" cute birds, very sassy, just a mention about the door to their section, you must always close it after you.

Love this place. Good short hikes to be away from it all. Trees, flowers, gardens. Old fort and medicinal herbs and flower garden. Bees, butterflies and greenhouses. And a little cafe. Free with museum jaarkaart.

Btw a summer/spring rate and a winter/autumn rate would be preferable ... cheaper for autumn/winter because there is only the greenhouse to see.

We had visited this garden over ten years ago and we visited it today. It was great back then, but now it’s really amazing! So many species, and so beautifully arranged. We also liked the butterflies a lot. A must go to get inspired, to gather knowledge or just to enjoy!!

This park is huge and unique with rocky mountains! Not my first visit, but still impressed by it's endless beauty. Especially during June. Definitely the most magical botanical garden within the 'Randstad' area. Hortus Amsterdam and Leiden have their own charm, but they are not comparable in size.

We spent half a day in this lovely park, it was an enjoyable day. There are lots of spots to see including waterfalls and hills to go up and look at the beatiful views. The most amazing spot is the butterfly garden where many kinds of colorful butterflies fly among flowers. Parking lot is big enough and not expensive. Museum kart is valid at this park.

The gardens have been a little disappointing this season, but I'm pretty sure they'll be better in the spring, so basically in a month 😅 At least we had fun seeing the indoor gardens and their carnivorous plants. There is also a section with ingredients that can be extracted from the plants, you could feel a little witchy able to make potions hahaha 🤣

Cute little garden with butterflies, bird watching station and a beautiful rockery. The cafe has a great selection of teas and a delicious gluten free cake. The place is worth visiting if you love nature and want to relax in quiet surroundings.

One of the best places in Utrecht for a relaxing walk. Everything is well organized, plants have clear signs. Multiple bioms present and many hidden spots for relaxation. One of the best botanical gardens I have ever seen.

It is indeed one of the best gardens! It includes different parts, the first part when we enter is the main Botanic garden, then we can walk to the rest which are even more interesting! I got a discount with my french student card which was nice, there is no free parking, but a paid parking in front of the garden which is not that expensive, but drinks are a bit expensive and I was not expecting that! BTW, I am giving five out of five because it mesmerized me, I definitely recommend you to visit this place while you are in Utrecht. The weekly flower market is generally a gorgeous experience, a street full of flowers! Who doesn't love it? The flowers are reasonably priced and stay standing often for almost two weeks! There's a large range of flowers to choose from which just makes this flower market a must go if you're staying in Utrecht a little longer or just want to experience this side of Dutch culture. The people there are always friendly and are happy to assist you with whatever you need! There are places where you can make your own flowers bundles, but there are also premade ones that you can get. I go here almost every week and usually I get one premade flower bundle and then I also make one for myself. It's a very fun experience and my dog loves it too!

Flower market on Saturday morning and afternoon. Love to go there, many stalls of cut flowers and plants at very accessible prices vs other city stores. Plants are generally in excellent state.

Known as Janskerkhof Flower Market, this location is situated in the square surrounding the Janskerk, a historic church dating back to 11th century. The area was originally used as a cemetery for the nearby the church but was closed in 19th century due to health concerns and the square was transferred into a market space. It started as a small market where local businesses sold their products and then vendors from surrounding areas could sell also. Now this square is also a lively gathering place with cafes, restaurants and shops which is a picturesque area with its historic buildings and cobblestone streets.

I like to come and look at the plants almost every Saturday, and enjoy it here. There are many different types of flowers. Amazing👍👍

A traffic light where Miffy turns red or green- possibly the most famous traffic light in Utrecht! At this rainbow crossing in the centre, Miffy is the one who regulates the traffic. Why? Well, Utrecht is the hometown to Miffy after all! This is where Dick Bruna drew and created the beloved Dutch bunny. As a tribute to Miffy's home, you can take a walk with her when the lights go green. The traffic lights are dedicated to her, and instead of the little red or green man, as usual, Miffy appears in the light. This traffic light along a beautifully painted rainbow crossroad adds to the quirk of walking around the historical city centre of Utrecht - so definitely keep an eye out for these little cute bunny ears lighting up the way. Its something which will catch your eyes while you are walking through the street. Its not something i would expect people to visit just to see this.

Came here for lunch. The food was fantastic. Great combination of flavours executed well. Great wine selection. Four stars because the service was not great, we sat there for atleast 20 mins before being offered water. We then had to stop and ask them for the wine list, overall a slow start. Just feel like we had to constantly get the service attention throughout the meal.

Great food in great place but portions are too small for the price. There was barely ANY meat in the beef short ribs, extremely disappointing. Main course duck could also have been bigger. My chocolate dessert sphere was split in half and they only served half. It was insulting considering I was still hungry at the end of a expensive 3 course meal. Service was too slow, we reserved at 8, most tables were nearly done but it still took us over 2h to get all food.

When our friends were in town we finally got a group of six to go to the beautiful restaurant on the Wilhelmina park pond. The setting is stunning but the food and the service were even more impressive. We all ordered the four-course menu and got treated with delicious plates from the tuna to the duck. We were treated like royalty and laughed all night. What a memorable night! I highly recommend it!

Fantastic restaurant and setting on the park. We did a tasting menu around Easter and were not disappointed. The opening dish was an excellent sea bass crudo with a citrus mousse we really appreciated, followed by a nicely cooked lamb with harissa sauce that paired very well with the wine pairing they offered. Went during colder months but would love to go back and sit outside next to the lake in Summer!

I loved here. Animals, baby ducks, trees and very peacefull place. After work, you can come here and you can rest. In this place, you can run or ride a bicycle. Its biggest advantage is near the utrecht and it is not far from city centre.

The terrace right in the Wilhelminapark is the greatest perk of this restaurant. The food is pretty good, although nothing out of the ordinary. Good winelist. Definitely recommended for a nice summer day or night.

Fabulous restaurant situated in one of the nicest parks in Utrecht and still only a short walk from the center. Cuisine is very good.

They were so attentive and brought a water bowl for my dog. Food was delicious, the ambience was amazing. It was such a beautiful lunch and prices were just fine.

Turned away by a very annoyed employee when asked if a 5 year old child can use the toilet... The ones in the trainstation where already closed, but apparently he didn't care. Not very welcoming or good for your image

Tina “The Musical” was a very Impressive and entertaining musical, but in addition this place i a very impressive Theater. Kind people and we had a very clean organized experience. We really liked the small break arrangement with the prepared table.

I had a nice time here . Its full of amazing musics . It was dutch musical but i enjoying the time here . Absolutely amazing show Tina Turner in Beatrix theater. The story is gripping, the music fantastic and the actors sing like you hear Tina herself.

Beautiful, clean, with all services you need, and just next to the train station! We had dinner at their Queen’s Restaurant and it was delicious!

Visited the theater for the computable awards 2018. The awards are given to IT companies in several different fields. Definitely an honor being nominated for an award.

For a single-cheap travel it is nice. I stayed for 5 nights but I think that my room wasn’t clean any day. I shared room with 9 people and you couldn’t open the windows so the room was very sofocating and hot. The breakfast is very good, but the take away lunch doesn’t worth the price, it’s just a bag that you can take stuff from the breakfast buffet. It would be nice to have more only female rooms

The hostel is really cool. I lived there for a month. I saw different people and know the staff well. They are welcoming, friendly, open to comments. I really liked the atmosphere on Tuesday evenings when people gather to play board games. There are specially designated places for work, for eating and just chilling. Despite this, I lacked variety at breakfast and sometimes I would like to have more meat for the evening. Also, my room lacked cleaning. All that was done was picking up the trash and adding toilet paper. I think they should put cameras under the hostel so that if a bicycle is stolen, it would be possible to track it on the cameras. But still it was nice to be in the hostel. It was comfortable. It was nice. Ecological. Thank you

While the staff are friendly and location is great, it's not a place to sleep well... every time someone in the bunk bed moves a tiny bit, the other bed shakes, like a mini earthquake. The sink is in the middle of the bedroom, not in the bathroom, which means everyone wakes up when someone is getting ready. Also to note they do not have a fridge available for guests.

One night stay here. Double room was very clean with everything we needed. Pillows not great though. No fault of hostel but the Thursday before bank holiday weekend is quite lively outside with partying 🤣 I really loved 'The 5th' a great facility. Utrecht is a lovely city with plenty to see. For cycle tourers like us there is free and efficient underground secure bicycle parking almost directly opposite the hostel which was useful (below the library). The staff were brilliant 👍

Excellent location, very centrally located. Comfortable. Friendly staff. Clean. Nice that there’s a bathroom in the room. Could leave my luggage after checking out, which was perfect.

It is a hostel with a perfect location, you are just a few minutes away from all the attractions and good restaurants in the city. The service is very good too, and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately, I didn't like the cleanliness of the hostel very much, and the room didn't smell very good, I believe it needs a greater frequency in checking the conditions of the room, bathrooms, showers... But for the cost benefit, it wasn't bad. I believe that with more frequent cleaning and maintenance, it could be a great hostel.

Honestly not the best. We were on the fifth floor and the wifi was nearly non existent. Also whats crazy is that there was no sign of a kitchen so we were forced to eat out every day and no common room, and the rooms were pretty dusty. Whats even stranger is that it was quite a high quality, obviously high budget building, yet no amenities that would make the hostel much much better. The only plus is the two showers in each room and my view from the top floor. Its also a very good location.

This place was as central as you can get. Super clean and quiet. We were shocked how nice and quiet it was for a hostel. Great spot and great staff too! Close to literally everything. Will definitely stay again, or find one in other cities!!

The shower, toilet and the room was clean. There is a locker allocated for each bunk bed which was an excellent idea. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The guy who looks after people during breakfast was incredibly helpful, kind and prepared me a gluten free bread. I dropped one star only because of lack of air conditioning in rooms. It was very hot and therefore I didn’t sleep well. If there was an air conditioning, I would give 5*.

Lovely hostel for hostel lovers! Located in the center of Utrecht. You can do everything on walking distance. The rooms were clean, spacey and there were bedlinnen and towels available. And of course very friendly and flexible staff. Would stay there again when in Utrecht.

The rooms have everything you may need, it's clean and it's located in the heart of the city. Definitely recommend staying here if you're just passing by the city for 1 night. Price is affordable and the staff is friendly and give exceptional service to the costumers.

The location and service by the staff was very good. The prices reasonable if breakfast was included otherwise I think it’s slightly higher 35 euros for a dorm room can get you the same in central Amsterdam with breakfast. Maybe the prices should be reduced if breakfast was unavailable due to renovation. The pillows also weren’t very comfortable. However, overall the design and layout of the hotel covered with its location and staff made it an above average stay but the things above could be improved I reckoned. Ps: for a popular hostel, one would think there would be more than 1 washing machine / dryer too. Good stay but definitely room to improve

Excellent location, close to everything. Freshly renovated, really nice. Very clean, daily. My room had no windows, only a curtain which was not enough to keep out the lights on the hallway - on all night. They are still renovating, annoying sounds during the day, started at 8-9 AM.

Clean rooms, toilet and shower. Located very near the city centre. However, would be great if simple breakfast was provided in the cost for the room. Currently you would have to add on additional money if you would like to have simple breakfast. Luggage room is available for use if you decide to check in early or check out late.

Lovely location, pretty ok breakfast, plenty of options and excellent coffee, but the rooms can be better cleaned (especially in the bathroom). At least the beds were very comfortable and the reception area is so cozy. Overall, good location for a city break and especially if get a price offer.

Amazing location. In the middle of Utrecht. It's super easy to walk everywhere. The rooms were great too! Just be aware that there's no kitchen :)

I loved this place! The location is close to the main station and the mall, it's in the centre of Utrecht. The room was spacious and new looking. The bunk beds were clean, super comfortable and they didn't make a noise. The staff was friendly and I appreciated the washing machine. The only thing I would add to this place is a microwave, but I can't complain.

Good hostel that I can describe as comfy, hotel-like but sterile. Not in a negative way, it's great (and better than others) if you need comfy bed (bunk beds are surprisingly sturdy and cozy) and shower, but unlike more classic hostels it lacks things like kitchen, washing machines and public lounges to talk with folks.

The location of the hostel is amazing- everything is within walking distance. The rooms were clean- one thing I didn't like is the fact that we couldn't open a single window in our room. The service was also good- everyone was very polite! Overall, I recommend it!

After a few years we visited again this hostel. Unfortunately the quality went a bit down since that time… I noticed that there are different types of mattresses on the beds (than it used to be) which are less comfy in my opinion… could not sleep well on it. You cannot rent bikes from them anymore… :( Our room now had windows, but only for looking out as you cannot open it. It would have been really good and needed to get some fresh air inside. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast… Bread slices were dried out, there were crumbles in the Nutella jar and on the bowl where we supposed to take out the butter… the one type of cheese they offered had no flavour, same for the orange juice and some other tasteless stuffs. Things clearly were not reloaded and supervised. The breakfast was really not worth it so the second morning we skipped it. Receptionists were ok. And of course the location of the hostel did not change which is still great.

Great services, warm welcome, detail explanations about the staying at the hostel. Very meaningful and fast changing public opinion at the resto. Coffie was well made. Had some discomfort with shared room, was expected less people than it was. However the stay was okey :)

It's more like being in a hotel than a hostel, until you go to your rooms. The lobby and bar area are fabulous, beautiful lighting, atmosphere relaxing, safe, friendly staff. I feel very fortunate to have been recommended this hostel from a hotel I couldn't afford to stay in whilst attending an insight seminar close by.

I've stayed in so many hostels in and out of Europe, but it was the first time I stayed in a hostel that didn't offer a refrigerator, body wash, shampoo and hair dryer for free. I didn't check the details when I booked because I thought it was super necessary and common. Lesson learned.

I couldn't believe that in 6 days he never washed the toilet, never changed a towel or a sheet...it's disgusting!! the housekeepers do not take care of cleaning at all and every day using the toilet or the toilet was a bit disgusting. I do not recommend this hotel, only if you are someone who likes dirt and the smell of unwashed pee
