An intriguing story of the ice man. It's a pity that everything revolves around one person and the discovery of the skeleton. I believe that the whole building and the story could be enriched with a broader horizon regarding how people lived at that time, what they did, what animals they encountered in their lives, and how they spent their spare time. And the exhibition on the top floor, organized somewhat forcefully, has little to do with the Ice Man. And definitely too few multimedia elements. Today, it's all about videos, and just talking heads in them don't solve the problem anymore! 🤷🏾‍♂️

This museum is really well-organized and utilizes multimedia to make the topic more interesting for the visitors. Make sure you reserve tickets in advance online to save time waiting in line. The lounge at the top floor is also worth a visit, especially for families with kids.

I highly recommend this exhibition for Otzi lovers. You can find many facts of his life and see him with your own eyes.

This is my second visit here and it is simply great, great value for money and a very well laid out museum. I took my Mum and step father this time and they loved it. I would definitely visit again, I learn something new each time!

One of the most unique museums I have ever seen. Worth an extra effort to get here. The whole story of how it is believed Otzi lived and died, how his body survived 10K years under a glacier, how he was found and the details of his life/death are extraordinary. Spent several hours going through the exhibits and a couple more strolling the town center.

It was great! Seeing Ötzi was super cool and we didn't have to wait long either. It was fascinating seeing and reading about old techniques that were used on his tools and to see how trade was already well established thousands of years ago. 100% recognized going! They also have a lot of fun stuff in the shop :D

Very interesting museum, definitely recommend it. All information is given in German, Italian and English. There is items, texts, films, touch screens and, of course, the mummy. There is lockers you are asked to put your things into and these can be used with 1€ or 2€ coins. We got here at 9:45am, it opened at 10:00am and it took us just over 2h to visit the entire thing while reading all texts and taking it slow. When we left, there was a huge queue for entering, so be there early or reserve your tickets, we didn't do this as we came by spontaneously.

Otzi is a fantastic exhibit for all ages. A must see - you will learn a lot. Every display is supported in 3 languages. The story unfolds as a journey from his discovery, his retrieval and preservation, through to understanding his lifetime. The technology he used was astounding. This is the best museum I’ve visited in Italy - highly recommended to everyone. Thank you South Tyrol!

Nice museum where you get to learn about Otzi the iceman (Europe's oldest known natural human mummy) and what was life like in the area over 5000 years ago. The personal belongings ground along him give precious details about the skillsets and life style then with carefully sawn garments and shoes.

Amazing expo. We had to wait about 10 minutes in line to get in because we did not have a reservation. Buy an app for 2€ instead of renting an audio guide. The app has not only audio, but also pictures and you get to keep it after the visit. Take your headphones with you for the more comfortable experience. There is a special app for kids 6-10 years old that is free. The QR codes to download both apps can be found either on the website, or right in the cash desk area.

Went to this museum while in Bolzano to see Otzi, the iceman. It was interesting to see the artefacts of that period . Almost missed to see Otzi as he lay in his cubicle which is behind a wall and not well sign posted. There is a glass window through which you see his mummified body. It's remarkable to see this skeleton in its entirety knowing how old it is. Not allowed to take photos in the museum.

Twenty minutes ride with great views. Bolzano station is about 0.5 km walk to the old town. Soprabolzano is a cute little hilltop hotel area. Great option for dinner for the views, or for accommodation instead of Bolzano.

We could have gone by car to Soprabolzano but we decided to travel with funivia del Renon instead. The step in point is Bolzano is very close to the Bolzano trainstation. Tickets are not to expensive and the wait was non existent. The carriages are big and light. The ride up to Soprabolzano gives you an amazing view of Bolzano

Cable car was well worth the 10€. Spectacular views, and I would also recommend the train ride for an additional 5€. You can get off and look around, or walk to the next spot along a well maintained walking trail.

Amazing views and hiking even in the snow, plus the cable card ride should not be missed. Bring a packed lunch as there are not a lot of restaurants at the top.

Great way to travel and get really fast to Bolzano/Renon without having the trouble of finding parking. The view from the cable 🚠 is spectacular and the kids were real thrilled about it.

Excellent trip up the Ritter mountain from Bolzano. The views were across to the Dolomites and for an Englishman, like nothing else seen before. Well run, efficient and good value.

Soprabolzano was my go to location on a Saturday just to get away from the world. Hike, brunch or to relax.... You will enjoy this trip. There is also a train that takes you through some mystical locations.

Architecture of this cathedral is amazing. You immediately feel the the medieval vibe. Hadn't been inside the church but it looks gorgeous from outside, located right in the centre of the city next to the main square. Very well maintained, especially when it's Christmas time, the area completely changes it's look with lighting and Christmas market next to the cathedral.

While the Bishop has resided in Bozen since 1964, the cathedra and the cathedral chapter remain in Brixen. Maria Himmelfahrt is therefore with Brixen Cathedral co-cathedral of the diocese.

Beautiful catholic church in the city centre of Bozen. The church has a very distinguished and noticeable multi-coloured marble roof and a very intricately carved exterior. The steeple is very pretty too. Located right at the Waltherplatz. It is really huge from the inside as well. Definitely worth a visit.

It is small but quite interesting and pretty museum. Nice views from the tower. The castle is reachable by foot and it takes 30-40 minutes to walk there (recommend the left bank of the river as it has a nice path with large trees giving shadow)

I visited in late March, so low season. Some facilities were closed but the museum and castle were accessible. 1,5h-2h is enough to get to the castle from parking and to visit.

Great site to visit to learn some history about this castle, and its significance to south Tyrol and Bolzano region. All information was available in 3 languages (German, Italian and English) which was really helpful. A pity 2 rooms were closed, but there was a discounted entrance rate, so it was fair. The hike up can be steep and not accessibility friendly.

This is the flagship museum of the Messner Mountain Museum collection. It’s accessible by public transport - a short, pleasant walk from the Sigmundskron/Ponte Adige railway station (there is also a bus stop which is even closer). The museum contains both indoor and outdoor exhibits, and I really like how the route takes you around the whole perimeter of the Firmian castle. I wanted to appreciate everything as it’s such an informative and aesthetically-pleasing experience with lots of unique and varied exhibits, so I needed about 3 hours to see it all - make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to do it justice!!

We thought we would make a quick stop but there is so much to see!!! You will need at least 4-5 hours plus good shoes and some condition! Amazing museum we have to come back next year with way more time :-)

The concept of the Museum is great. You walk up and down quite a bit to visit all parts of it, mimicking a mountain ascent. The castle hosting the Museum would be of interest in and itself (nice view over the city of Bolzano) and a lot of exhibits are interesting if you are into mountaineering. The Museum leaves quite a lot of room to the spiritual aspect of the mountains and not just about the technical aspect of climbing them. Even though there are tributes to other mountaineers in the Museum, it still felt too much like an ego trip (hence the 4*). This is strongly felt in the Museum shop where you can purchase 50 different Messner books but not a single book from another mountaineer. Sad.

Price is way to high! Just budda-stuff (with all respect) 15€ pp in 20 minutes, the owner “messner” walkt around there, people ask a picture of him but he was very arrogant!! Not to do that. The restaurant at the and was good but manny manny fly’s

We visited this with German friends who were familiar with Messner. By using the Bolzano Pass, we had free entry to the site. You need to be able to climb steps to get the most out of the museum. It's worth a visit.

WW1 monument located just outside city center near the river. It's very imposing. It's possible to enter inside to see a small museum. Unfortunately closed when I visited. In very good condition. Hard to miss.

Honsetly not giving the monument 4 points, but rather the location. Don't get me wrong, the monument is pretty cool too, but the location is what makes it into a great place for me. Near the city but with a very nice park next to it, that allows for some very comfortable walks throughout the entire year (if you're dressed for it) and every saturday there is a weekly market, where there are a bunch of streetvendors. As I've said, the location makes the monument a lot more interessting.

What a beautiful environment. The views are stunning and the walks are pleasant. We took so many photo’s and aren’t enough what you see in with your own eyes. The smell of the woods are so nice!! Must see!

*Visited 7/18 The most stunning place I have seen with my eyes to date. Please go by bus to the parking lot do not take a car the roads up are dangerously narrow. The bus system is efficient and reliable.

The last good week of snow and groomed trails. Great winter rodelbahn and lots of hiking options. Small parking lot so get here early but you will not be disappointed, perfect for famalies

Beautiful scenery and great hikes

Very beautiful National Park. I hiked the Selva di Val Gardena hike today which was very beautiful. Here mid April there were still some snow and the top part of the trail was blocked. Meet a local who said it would be all clear in about a weeks time.

This park offers the best views and tipical natural scenarios of Ortisei. Much better than Alpe di Siusi which unfortunately seems totally composed by pastures and skilifts. By arrival with funicular "Resciesa" you can choose two ways: on the left "Rifugio Resciesa" on the right "Malga Brogles". Going to the first one takes only 40 minutes and without suffer too much you'll get an incredible varieties of plants relaxing walk, a super cosy farm with lots of horses and donkeys, a very nice owner playing music for children and last but not least a flabberghasting 50 miles 360 view if you reach the nearby top crossed hill. Going to the right way will not be so easy : 2 hours of walk crossing sometimes rocky paths sometimes lunar plains but the real sensation (after 15 o'clock) to be finally alone in an incredible place in almost total silence. After a long walk and a final 100m descent (to climb back at return) you will reach Malga Brogles. This one is like all other "Malga" in this region but located in a small valley instead of a plain or tops but the view of surrounding vertical rocky mountains from below is the better one around. This rough life place is owned and managed by three (or four) young sisters and their mother... giving to the whole somehow a slight epic movie atmosphere. Few basic plates and good service.

Spectacular. Multiple hiking options for all levels. You can take the chairlift straight to Seceda and start your hike westward. Alternatively you can do the climb from Col Raiser.

Small museum with lots of scientific information about the Alps, really nice aquarium tank. Good for kids learning all the natural knowledge about the region.

Small but very informative museum with a nice look and feel. Friendly staff as well. Unfortunately non of the panels have an English translation so beware. Nowadays u can use Google lens to translate texts on the spot.

It was pretty cool. However there isn't any Hands-on experiences it is mostly reading and translating from either Italian or German. There is a fish tank on the second level and a little shop on ground level. The shop is quite interesting with little animals carved out of stone which are about €2.90!

"Caldera" was nice. In general they could go a bit deeper with informations since not everyone has maximum 10 years old.......

Beautiful art exhibition (collection of Erling Kagge in September 2020). Thanks to the corona regulations you had plenty of space to walk around, it was very quiet and empty, we had an amazing time. The architecture is amazing as well. Just the overall organization of the exhibition was from time to time a bit confusing.

Incredibile Museum in the early centre of Bolazno, BOZEN, it is very easy to access by wheelchair ,in groups. Guided tours at 2pm for free, bar in the edge. Receptionist is very welcoming German,Italian, English speaking. Lockers at entrance to keep your stuff. Very clean toilets.

I did not expect such a cutting edge contemporary art museum in sleepy, conservative Bolzano: Fantastic curators, spectacular architecture, mind provoking art!

What a surprising unique experience. If you come with kids, get the family set (for free) to play with. It has fun, creative and not too difficult tasks for kids to do around the gallery that you'll enjoy as well. The staff was very nice and helpful.
