Take a walk, a 5k run, or a bikeride along the wall and enjoy historic Lucca and its surroundings. Traversing the Mura di Lucca is a nice way to begin or end your day. Their is public parking around the wall (for a fee).

One of our favorite cities in Italy! The walls is a must, either walk it, run or bike or nap it 👌🏼❤️ My personal recommendation is you rent a bike for an hour, go around the walls, return the bike and continue exploring the town by foot! 🙏🏼

I loved visiting Mura di Lucca with a poli bike! You can really explore this wonderful citadel and enjoy its beauty!

You cannot come to Lucca without experiencing the walls. Whether you pass through one of the six large Ports that allow pedestrian and car traffic or one of the smaller ports that are pedestrian only, this magnificent wall is truly a sight to see. Besides being used to separate the centro from the rest of Lucca, it has walking paths on the top, restaurants, a hospitality center for those walking the via Francigena, and the original places for the soldiers that used to patrol these walls. There is a lot of history here. In addition, there are places to picnic, playgrounds, and art installations. On warmer days there will be musicians playing and artists drawing or painting the sights around them. Or, you can just walk along and enjoy the sights or take a bike ride down the wide avenue that allows you to walk all the way around the city in a contiguous loop.

Also gives you fantastic views over the cities many varied and beautiful buildings such as the famous towers and magnificent churches. An absolute must for everyone who comes to visit the beautiful city of Lucca. All in all incredibly lovely. All the gates and little tunnels should also not be forgotten. Wonderful!

Great park run .except for the heat, but then you expect it. Friendly volunteers great meeting other parkrun tourists. And enjoyed a lovely coffee ☕️ after. The last photo is the place we're we stayed only 5 minutes walk to start.

We spent a couple of hours cycling around the walls of Lucca today. There are numerous bike hire places around Lucca both inside the walls and outside. We hired from Fast and Furious which is outside the walls. The circuit is about 4km around and very flat apart from the ramps up onto the walls which aren't very steep, but you can walk the bikes up if you need to. There are wide, tree lined paths which have people walking, jogging and cycling on them. On a weekday like today in September they were busy and it was a very relaxing way to get in some gentle exercise. Most of the cyclists are very relaxed and not whizzing around aggressively.

Another beautiful walled town but rather overrun with high end stores down every side street. The piazza has lovely shady trees covering it with musicians playing. Lovely restaurants on the perimeter. Enjoy a walk on the town wall

Somewhat touristy of course but nevertheless this unique transformation of a Roman amphitheatre has its own charm. Nice bars and restaurants serving typical tourist fayre and a few benches where you can sit and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Don't omit to find the few remaining original Roman stones on the outside.

I get a kick out of things people call "tourist areas" as though that makes the places less interesting. I understand that we may not always want to be cramped in with other tourists (as if we're not a tourist ourselves). In fact, we often want to find places that are more frequented by locals, something more authentic. I'm with you. But there's a reason people flock to certain areas: something is interesting, compelling, and unique. Eiffel Tower, Times Square, Golden Gate Bridge, and on and on. Heavily touristed? Yes. Should you see them? In my opinion, yes. The Piazza here is worthy of a visit, too. There are good restaurants, nice people, and stunning architecture. A visit during the evening photographic golden hour is really quite stunning. It's historical, beautiful, and part of Lucca. Now, I'm off to hide amongst the locals!

In my opinion it's the best squares of lucca. Anfiteatro Square in Lucca, , is a charming, elliptical-shaped square that stands on the site of an ancient Roman amphitheater. Encircled by medieval buildings, it retains the original shape of the amphitheater, creating a unique and picturesque space. The square is a lively hub with cafes, shops, and a vibrant atmosphere, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.

It was once a Roman amphitheater and it shows in its near curricular design. It is now an area of mixed use with bars, restaurants, shops and housing. It's a very cool. It's open to the public to walk through and around at no charge.

If you’re in Lucca, you must visit this elliptical shaped piazza at least once. But since it’s free, don’t restrict yourself to just once if you don’t have to! It’s a great use of the historical space of the amphitheater. In the summer it has many nice restaurants, during the Christmas season, it’s nicely lit.

The perimeter wall of the Piazza is mostly restaurants. During nice weather there's covered seating inside the circle. Walk once around the inner circle and tour the menus and find the place that suits you best. I was fortunate enough to spend several days in Lucca and can say I was 3 for 3 good meals!

It was a nice experience to walk around this historical place. It is well maintained and clean. Plenty of shops for dining and drinking. A lot of people just come to sit and hang there and when the weather is good, it’s a nice place to just enjoy hanging around.

One of the best place in Lucca. Beautiful view to hilly country around city and across the roofs. The place up the tower was quite small, but I was lucky and there was less then 5 people. I cannot imagine being there with group of people.

Very nice tower to climb, with great views as a reward for the climb. The stairs are easy at first and become slightly narrow towards the top but never really problematic. The views on top are really worth it; you can see all of the city and the surrounding country side.

I was pleasantly surprised to see plants and trees on the top of the tower, providing pleasant shade. You can walk around the trees, it's a bit cramped here, hard to get around people. However, the view is very rewarding, with a beautiful panorama, all the towers of Lucca can be counted.

Amazing 360-degree views of Lucca. Interesting way to get your sense of the town layout if you know the key landmarks. A few small stairways that get a little tight for us bigger guys, but the climb is easily worth the views -- especially from under the shade provided by the several hundred years old oak trees.

Most beautiful tower in Lucca. The fact that it has trees on the top is unique and spectacular. There are only stairs to reach the top so be prepared. The stairs start off large and are made from brick. Near the middle/top of the staircase, it becomes a metal structure which is slightly tight. So you may need to be patient and allow others to pass. The tower can get busy and there might be a queue as there is a limited amount of people which are allowed on the top. My advice is to try to go to the Guinigi Tower before visiting the other churches.

We loved climbing this tower as a family. It wasn’t too steep - just normal stairs. Beautiful views of Lucca at the top. So cool to be shaded at the top of a high building by a small forest of trees on a warm day.

Definitely worth visiting. We were there on a busy holiday weekend and had to wait about 30 mins in line. At this tower, you can purchase a combo ticket that also includes the Tore dell Ore (clock tower) and botanical garden. There is a nice garden at the top, and of course a beautiful view over the town.

Definietely worth time and money. Bell tower is the highiest in Lucca and the view just breathtaking. Cathedral has lots of historical aspects to see. Also big + for EN explanations. We went there at thd opening hour at 12 and thr rays of light from the stained glass were really out of this world.

The Lucca Cathedral is a lovely place. It's really pretty outside and peaceful inside. You can go up the tower for nice views of the city. It's not too busy, so it's a nice place to see if you like old buildings and history.

I bought the combo ticket for 10 euro, which includes the cathedral, the bell tower and the museum. The cathedral is the highlight of the show. It is filled with beautiful sculptures , frescos and paintings. The museum is just OK, 10 minutes in and out, not much to see. The view from the top of the bell tower is very good, but you can't take a single photo, because all the windows are covered with dense metal wires.

Went to the Puccini and Mozart summer concert series. There were 2 Opera singers, one Soprano and one Alto, and a Pianist. We were in a small church next to the Basilica museum, and the sound was incredible! The concert lasted about an hour. A wonderful experience. Arrive early, close to 6pm, when they open the doors. We had front row seats :)

Lots of people say this is nice inside, there are even photos of the Reliquary. Not for me. This is not nice at all and if you are not entrenched in this kind of Christianity you might not like it either.

San Michele in Foro in Lucca is an architectural masterpiece with a unique feature—the mummified body of Saint Zita. And this here is one of the most famous ones. All the big brands are here (like Timberland, Max Mara, Kiko, Guess, Douglas, Foot Locker, Swatch etc.). But even you're not into shopping you shouldn't miss out on this street. It's a nice little walk, passing the Torre Delle Ore. It goes from the Piazza San Michele up to the beautiful Anfiteatro. And just for that alone it's worth having a walk here. There are quite some interesting independent/local shops here as well.

Looking from above the walls, the architecture of the buildings and the gardens themselves look fantastic. We will definitely need to come back here.

The palazzo, as big as it looks from outside, does not have many rooms to show. The display is a strange mixture of period furniture and medical instruments with a fetus thrown in for measure…The famous staircase to the garden is under repair when I was there. The garden is lovely but I have to say that you can see all the garden from the city wall. So if you are a budget traveler I guess you can just do it there.

Pretty chill palce and beautiful with all the statues of the Greek gods. The plants and park was well maintained. The price was reasonable for both the apartment and the garden itself. Supportive and helpful receptionist.

Highly reccomend going up this tower for amazing views on the city. At the time of visit (Monday afternoon) there were just a couple of other visitor while Guinigi tower that is very well visible from the top was really packed. A central location of the clocktower gives breathtaking views on all the sides - rooftops, towers, mountains. There are also binoculars that are free to use to zoom in on various city sights.

The view from the tower is breath taking and there is a lot of space up there to sit or stand and to look at the city from different point of views. The staircase is in wood and makes the tower very charming and original. I highly recommend, much more than the tower that has a « garden » on top.

Interesting clock tower with plenty of information in English explaing the history of the tower as you ascend up. If you time it right you’ll be able to hear the bell ring! Great views over Lucca.

It was great to walk on top of the clock tower where we could see the whole view of Lucca downtown. The steps are narrow but you can climb easily. The ticket can be bought online the QR code is below at the entrance. The person in charge was very nice spoke in English and very friendly, she guided us to buy the tickets kindly.

Amazing place. Just as amazing as that Guinigi Tower. Take away everything contemporary from the landscape and you’re back in the Middle Ages! And that alone should give you an idea of the kind of architectural accomplishment of building such a tall structure in those times. A must-see.

So worth it! Not a bad climb and only 4 euros with a student discount. You get the same view as Torre Guinigi but much less crowded, I had the whole tower to myself.

Handsome Renaissance walls that surround the historic city centre with treed -lined walkways perfect for a morning stroll. There are beautiful churches and cathedrals to visit as well as some incredible Trattorias and cafes to sit and enjoy an espresso. A must visit if you're in Tuscany. Easily accessible by train from Florence and Pisa.

A beautiful place where you can go to.On the streets you will find stores(clothes, traditional food products, toys, souvenir and many more).Also in the Piazza Napoleone which has a circular aspect you can choose from a lot of restaurants where you can taste the amazing Italian dishes.

This is one of the hidden gems of a restaurant after a long hot day of walking. Chill and enjoy the food. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Help yourself to cold water as you eat. The toilets are clean .enjoy 👌

Lovely and refreshing walk in nature after spending the day sightseeing Lucca's main landmarks and towers. So many turtles sunbathing too!

Small get away within the city walls. Nice place for a quiet lunch. It was warm today and the lizards were out in force. Spring is only just starting. I can only imagine the place once all the plants are out and blooming. Take a moment to find this small flower of a place. Only wish there were more places to sit like a bench to enjoy the surroundings.

The 7:00 p.m. nightly Puccini concert was wonderful! The selections are brief so even those who can't tolerate long opera can enjoy these musical tidbits! The performers are classy and extremely well-trained. The setting is magnificent! My only warning is that if you read that these are free, as we had done, don't believe it! The cost is €30 per person and they do not take credit cards! As shocking as it was for us when we expected it to be free, I must say it was still worthwhile! And one other piece of advice, if you want to understand the words pay the extra €5 to get the libretto in Italian and English. Then the program for the night directs you to a particular page where you can follow along in the Italian and glance to the right to see the English. It makes the short performances much more interesting!

Located close to the duomo, this church imposes with a huge brick cupola and roman excavations in the underground. Combi ticket ( duomo, bell tower and San Giovanni) is available.

Enjoyed the good concert here at this church. The acoustic was very bright and great for singer. The accompanist was well equipped fir the two singers. Loved the repertoire presented.

Great view from the top. My favourite was the large painting by Giuseppe Crespi, and a stunning tomb sculpture by an artist that NOBODY is talking about... why????? Even the employees don't know who did this and there's no information to be found.

Don't how you can possibly give this church 1 star. I find this church peaceful even in summer. It isn't over adorned so I suppose if you need glitz go to Monreale. For me the archeological aspect makes this a must see site. The curators have tried to make the levels of Lucchesi life clear with colour coding and basic signage. So seeing remants of a Roman bath amongst bits of 8th century baptistry and a 5th C mosaic all below the church is my idea of exciting. It sets the imagination on fire....if you have one. Of course there are superior historical sites all over the world..but this is still a great visit. There are some good fresco remnants to be seen and of course in usual Lucca style there are concerts in the evenings. For 9 euros you can come here; climb the tower; go to San Martino: climb THAT tower; and go to the San Martino museum too. I love this church and think it is well worth a visit.

Beautifully decorated cathedral. They provide information in a leaflet inside. Tickets are less than €5 per person. -1 for the scary stairs in the tower. The tower reminded me of Jenga in a bad way.

5€ entry per person is fair for an interesting collection of gruesom oddities such as this. It took us about 30 minutes to look around and the kids found it interesting. It makes you feel lucky to be alive now and not when these devices and methods were used 🙈

It was a fun place to visit. The lack of air conditioning made it hard to handle. If you don't read the signs next to the devices you will be done in 5 minutes. Still interesting and definitely an experience. The price is in my opinion a bit too high for what there is to see.

The real stars of this comparatively small collection are the stunning textiles. Multiple bedrooms with a variety of draperies and tapestry. A very small but well chosen exhibit of clothing from 1750s to 1920s may have been my favorite. If you like design, textiles, or historic fashion, this is a little jewel box.

It’s a good surprise for me to find this small museum! It’s a good opportunity to learn a bit history of Lucca and it’s prominent families. So happy to see a room which is dedicated to the Medici family. The price is only 4 euro per adult.

An evocative 17th century palace with dramatic baroque rooms and furnishings. There is also an extensive painting collection hung in an old fashioned manner, picture above picture, and including some very fine works.

Amazing art and super cheap entrance ticket. We payed 3 euro per person and it is more than worth it seeing this museum for such a price.

The palace of the Duke of Lucca. The 3 grand rooms of the wall tapestries are stunningly superb, worth visiting just for them. 6 stars! At 400 years old, much of the colour of the dyes remains, as good as anything else in major musuems, Louvre included. For once, i could even imagine what they looked like when new. And them there is the OTT bed chamber with silk wall coverings, a true "must see".

Palazzo of the Mansi family. Interesting place for an internal walk. One is able to visit the 1st floor of the mansion
