Girona was originally on my plan, on my way to Barcelona to Marseille, I made a stop for lunch, and the quick lunch turned out to be a whole afternoon leisure. I stayed at the Cathedral of Girona for over 2.5 hours, appreciating its architecture wonder. It has the widest nave of 23 meters for any cathedral in the world. It also collected the tapestry of creation treasure, the 1000 year old tapestry was still having the brightest colors you could imagine, with the design and story behind the tapestry. It is truly a masterpiece collection! The cathedral was very quiet on a Monday afternoon, only less than a dozen people inside. I was a very pleasant surprise visit of the cathedral! 🙏🙏🙏Cheers!😃😃😃

This church in Girona is truly majestic and one of the main attractions for visitors. It is one of the best churches I have seen in Europe. The Cathedral of Girona is a thousand-year-old building famous for its historical significance and its appearances in film and television. The building is located at the highest point of the old city of Girona, known as the "Old Force," and is protected by a set of walls and ramparts. The Gothic nave, tower of Charlemagne, cloister, and sacristy remain from its Romanesque period in the mid-11th century.

The ‘Catedral de Girona’ is one the most impressive architectural buildings in the whole region. The church lays imposing at the top of a beautiful, long staircase - the best spot for portrait pictures, of course. I recommend going early to avoid too much wait.

This Gothic Cathedral is certainly a sight to behold. Beyond its beauty, it is so rich in history, so be sure to pick up an audio guide on your way in. Entrance is 7 euros, which includes entrance to the basilica as well. The Cathedral has many beautiful and majestic pieces of tapestry draped over its walls, so take your time to enjoy that and the rest of the art displayed throughout the space. Definitely a must-visit during your stay in Girona.

WOW! This is the widest cathedral I have ever seen. It's the second widest in the world, after St. Peter's basilica in Vatican! Its dimensions hit you when you arrive in the square, it's enormously beautiful. The painted glass windows are exquisite, very well maintained. Take the audio guide, it's free and very informative.

Stunning cathedral, really glad I decided to go in! (versus only taking a photo of the famous steps) It's the tallest cathedral nave in Europe and has amazing stained glass.The audio guide is great and included with ticket entry. They also do student discount. Come in the afternoon to avoid the crowds, as the coach tours have gone home in the afternoon and there's several cafes still open in Girona at that time.

Visiting the Girona Cathedral is a must if you're in Girona. I visited other great churches and cathedrals throughout my travels, but for some reason, this one took my breath away as soon as I walked through the door. It must be the sound of the organ playing, mixed with the dark setting and the overwhelming size of the interior. It's hard to describe. You have to see it for yourself!

One of the most important cathedrals in Europe, it is simply impressive. Being a fan of Game of Thrones, I had to visit it. It was a great experience to see it laying at the top of a gorgeous, long staircase. This is definitely a must-see place in Girona! I would love to come back soon, probably not in Temps of Flors due to the amount of people.

Beautiful cathedral! Amazing architecture! It’s located right on top of the hill, so the roof can be seen from far away. It’s surrounded by small cafes, so you could have a drink and enjoy the architecture.

Beautiful gothic cathedral. Popular due to Game of Thrones, but inside is where most of the beauty is. Love their stained glass of St Michael Archangel, the huge tapestry, the cloister with a tower of lombard design. Just beautiful.

Went to Girona in November 2023 for a University Trip, was absolutely gorgeous and so quiet even though it was a Thursday! 100% recommend if you want a holiday without all the noisy tourists, a lot of steep hills and walking so if you’re a bit older or have a few kids probably not great but if you don’t mind the walking it’s a lovely area, plenty of shops and cafes further back in the towny area, this was about a 15-25 min walk from the shops and stuff but that area wasn’t horrifically crowded, pretty average I would say, so overall a lovely area and perfect for travels ^^

This place is absolutely breathtaking, so massive and immense! Definitely take a walk to the gardens above it, just to get various views of the Cathedral. It made our visit even more special and memorable knowing that some scenes of Game of Thrones were filmed here.

The cathedral is the jewel in the crown, the old town is steeped in history with it's many narrow streets and tall buildings but sitting high above them all is the magnificently built Cathedral, the entrance ticket is 7.50 euros as of November 2023, and it is worth paying just from the visual aspect, but will the tickets price you get an electronic guide that you hold up to your ear, thankfully these ones work really well and easy to use and the information is clear and short and very well explained, so give it a big thumbs up

Absolutely loved a day trip to here from Barcelona. Amazed by the architecture and travelled back in time in the surroundings. Girona will remain as one of my favorite place to visit. Better come early as the entrance closes pretty early as well. However still good to see from outside especially during sunset. Gorgeous view. Need a bit of walking as the streets were really narrow.

A long wall connected to Girona Cathedral. It was a place where their efforts to protect the castle by shooting arrows could be seen. Once you set foot, it's too far to turn back. You arrive on the other side. However, it is worth it because the view is so beautiful. I recommend you go up there.

Massive old walls that's a must-visit. You can walk on the ground alongside the wall to appreciate its size, then climb the stairs up the wall on either side then walk atop the wall from one end to the other, taking in the views of Girona as you go by. You'll most likely pass by others along the wall which isn't a problem, and there's some areas including towers you can stop by along the way.

For sure one of the highlights of the Girona. Amazing views and not too crowdy (except the northern part close to the Cathedral). There are also many towers which you can climb on for better views.

A long way on top of the old city wall. You will have astonishing view of the city. There are a view point to see the city and taking amazing shots. You have to walk through it.

I visited this Museo on 18/12/22. Weeks later I find myself still reflecting on it. I’ve been to similar museums but ultimately I found this one rather exceptional. It has great information and translations are in Castellano, Catalán, and English. I would allow for 45min to 1.5 hr for the visit. Additionally the very sweet and kind lady work the desk first thing in morning was delightful and professional. Make this a stop if your in Griona.

This was one of the museums I definitely wanted to visit while being in Girona. Extremely interesting, very well located and have 2 exhibitions: one temporary (which is free) and the permanent (2-4 euros/person). The temporary is not available in English, only the handbook, but the permanent can be followed in English. Walking through history, with the amazing audio guide I understood more about Jewish people and their culture and past. 10/10 recommend!

The most famous is the one that was constructed by Gustave Eiffel - The Girona Steel Bridge (painted in Red) was built in 1876 by Gustav Eiffel, a French engineer with German roots.

A very nice shortcut from the Independent Square to the other side of the shopping district. From here you can easily walk a short distance to the Cathedral too. Perfect! Lovely views in the morning and afternoon!

I don't think the bridge itself is so remarkable, as are its surroundings. The fact that Eiffel designed it makes it very popular. However the sightings from there are remarkable and I recommend its visit.

A lot quieter in November so managed to get a few good photos, the foot bridge takes you into the old town.

Great views over Girona with it's beautiful multicoloured apartments stacked on top of each other like a medieval game of tetris, it's a backdrop nearly as beautiful as Venice and it captures the afternoon sunlight.

Absolutely loved visiting Girona, the town was clean and a beautiful place to visit. We ate at one of the plaza restaurants and then had cookies from the Guilty Cookies. The food and service at the restaurant were both absolutely incredible.

Rio Onyar is a beautiful bridge area in Girona, a small town near Barcelona. This town is so quaint and pretty. I highly recommend a visit here if you have time. The place isn’t packed with people and tourists so it’s a nice place to walk around and see beautiful architecture.

Love the view of the houses with their different colors by the canal. It reminds me on "ponte vecchio" in florence.

The houses on the banks of the Onyar River are unusual colorful bright houses in Girona. They were built in the XVII century on a basement left from the city wall destroyed by the French. In the following years, they were rebuilt several times, but retained their colorful appearance

Lake is nice and quiet. It's a place where lots of animals live so it's to observe them. Around the lake is a great path for walking, running and cycling. I must say that car parking there can be problematic at least from side which I approached but finally it was possible near small church which is worth to see as well.

It’s a super beautiful place! Great for kids and families .. However we got In trouble for swimming in the non designated area (don’t realize there were any!) .. There’s designated areas that you can only swim in, one includes paying for drinks in the restaurant before you’re allowed to swim... seems a bit odd! But over all nice for a swim and day of chilling.

Great lake for a pleasant 6.8km walk around. If you are visiting the area Wednesday is a good day to visit as it is the weekly market in the morning (stalls start shutting up around 12.30). So you can browse the market, have a nice walk and then stop for lunch in one of the local restaurants.

Don't expect any real nature around this lake. Some concrete cycle paths and dirt walking trails. Lots of swimming not allowed signs.

Beautiful lake even without sunny weather. You can bike, walk or drive around by car. Rent a kayak or row boat to enjoy the lake at its most. We definitely will return.

Beautiful moving image museum in the heart of Girona. Museum is divided to four floors and the round starts with short video intro. It focuses on history of light and picture entertainment and last part is about cinema. Lots of interactive things that activate museumgoer. Also interesting place to visit with a bit older kids.

Before visiting this place, be aware that you'll spend a lot of time here. Very, very interesting. You'll get a complete overview of cinematic history in a very entertaining way, with unique collections of cinematic devices.

I loved this museum! it spawns on 3 floors, and it tells the history of cinema from the first shadow theatre to the portable TV. The audio guide in multiple languages is included in the (cheap) ticket. The venue is fully accessible, with a lift and ramps at every level. Totally recommended!

Great interactive displays (shadow puppets, zoetropes, optic demos). So much creativity on display here. Anyone with an interest in art or science should check it out. Our 5-year-old also loved it and asked to go back the very next day. There were English descriptions on just about everything.

The basilica is a stunning Gothic-style building constructed in the 14th century using ashlar and masonry. The facade and steps, however, are Baroque. Although it may not be as grand as the Girona Cathedral, it is still definitely worth a visit. Additionally, admission to both of these churches is free on Sundays, just thought it would be good to know!

This medieval basilica is located a few hundred metres from the cathedral and is almost as impressive. It is a must-visit place, with an audio guide included in the admission price of €7.50 per person (€5 for us oldies).

If you purchased the 3 in 1 ticket including the cathedral, this is another site you will visit. It is not as grand as the cathedral, but nonetheless worth visiting. The entrance is a bit tricky to find. If you use Google map to search for this place, it will take you to a good place to take photo of it, but it isn't the entrance. You will need to continue to walk to the right of the building, then you will see a slope up to the building. Make sure you get the audio guide so that you get all the detail information.

This imposing basilica church equals the nearby city cathedral in beauty and importance. Located in a picturesque medieval part of the city, this church is Gothic in style with a baroque facade, full of statues in niches. The church is older than the cathedral and has also a slender bell tower and stairs leading up to its main entrance.

This church is just opposite the bridge of Saint Felix, on the eastern bank of the River Onyar. It seemed a little odd that a basilica is smaller than the cathedral until I found out that historically this church housed the Diocese of Girona and therefore the main church in Girona until the construction of the cathedral. Much like the cathedral, it’s a lovely mix of Romanesque, Gothic and with a Baroque facade. Not quite a beautiful as Girona Cathedral, this church does have a few interesting points such as the 4th century sarcophaguses, an interesting alter with a statue of Saint Felix (I think), and the tomb of Narcissus of Girona who was one of the early bishops of Girona. Keep in mind that you can buy a combined ticket for this basilica and Girona Cathedral, also known as the Church of St. Mary. Although the cathedral is more opulent than the basilica, I actually found the narrative of the audio guide for the basilica far superior. Do not miss the Chapel of Saint Narcissus, which I though was far more beautiful than any of the chapels in the church for it's stunning jasper walls.

5€ combined entry ticket for Sant Feliu and the Cathedral, worth it! The Basilica is a good first choice, really enjoyed it. The audioguide is free and works very well. Interesting history behind the Basilica Sant Feliu, incredible architecture, especially in the side chapel.

Stopped in Girona on the way back from the Dali Museum. Wish we had more time to walk the walls explore the various churches and the narrow. Definitely worth a visit once you find the historic centre. A bit like Florence meets Spain with the bridges and houses along the river

Beautiful basilica of Girona! Together with the cathedral, they dominate the skyline of Girona. Walk around the basilica where the Jewish quarter is located or go up to the hill where the old City Hall is and catch a glimpse of the basilica against the city as backdrop. People came to this small lion sculpture and get into the stairs to hug and kiss the lion to return back to the city.

We enjoyed our dinner at this cute restaurant with a bit of hippy vibe so much that we went twice! Located in the old city very near the historic cathedral and basilica. Interesting, varied menu with both typical Spanish food including tapas and other offerings. One night, a delicious Uruguayan beef, another yummy Nepalese momos. Excellent grilled vegetables! Service was the best we had in Spain, very charming and friendly.

If you ever find yourself walking down Placa Sant Felix and happen to pass L'hostal de la Lleona, take a moment to look for stone column with a sculpture of a decorative lion, that looks like it’s climbing up. Kiss that lion's behind cause it might just save your life. No … just kidding. This is another one of those rub/kiss a sculpture thing that supposedly brings good luck. Go ahead if you believe in that kind of thing. There's also a plaque near the lion describing I think the origin of this superstition (in Spanish).

I need to say this. They told me to wait outside couple of minutes until a table is free. I did that. And after 30min they told me that they don’t have time anymore.. when I came it was 1:20h before they are closing, and by then it was still almost an hour. And they could tell me before, not making me wait in the winter time for 30min outside. At this time is already hard to find a restaurant open, so I was left alone hungry. It happened to me already twice that I wanted to go there and I couldn’t eat because they somehow rejected me.. really bad experience, just not treating other person nice and respectful. I live in Girona and they could have had a regular customer, but in this case, I will never go there again.

Stellar quaint restaurant. We ate there daily for a week in 2019 and back again in 2022. Food is superb. Very reasonable. 3 course meal with many options is €16.50. A bottle of wine is €8-12.

Cool landmark, but definitely not the highlight of a visit to Girona. The history, however, Is quite interesting. Stop by if you have the time.

Excellent food and excellent value. Such kind servers as well. Can’t recommend it enough. The daily menu is so diverse. If we were staying longer, we would return.

We arrived the first ones but the waitress told us she can’t take our order yet as we were upstairs and it’s priority to the guests downstairs ! After 20min waiting with 3 young kids I asked if it’s possible to take our order luckily the lady accepted but we still had to wait an hour for the starter. Then 30min later we still didn’t have our main dish and the waitress said the chef is overbooked and can’t prepare the food so we have to wait for long time again. Unfortunately we had to leave with kids starving.

I visit this place once in a week and just love the aura of this place. Very peaceful, calm and mesmerising. Great option for kids to enjoy, adults to relax and pets to have fun. Highly recommended.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays there's a great fruit & vegetables market where you can get great bargains. Stalls selling plants and clothes too!

A large park with an impressive tree-lined entrance and two sections - one a large grassed area with playground equipment; another with tall trees like a mini forest. If you go a little further on one side of the tree area, you'll reach a maintained garden that you can relax in that's also next to a restaurant.

Very nice walk and picturesque place. Had a nice time walking through the park. Had some coffee at the coffee shop and enjoyed the weather and Woody atmosphere. There are some very nice flowers and peacocks in the park

The Parque de la Dehesa is a large park located west of the historic centre of the old city, on the west bank of the River Onyar and within walking distance of Plaza Independencia. It’s a lovely bit of green space in Girona and a nice contracts to a bit of sightseeing in the old town. It's not really much of a park in some ways because much of it is full of trees. Although there is a small adjacent gardens, there isn't much to see. Perhaps Devesa Forest would be a better name. Other reviewers have mentioned a market, but I didn't see it.

Massive space with lots of trees that are exactly the same and nothing else. There's a separate closed off park which is inside and much prettier. Has a kids play area, bar and flowers etc.

Hugs local park with a lake. Market day on Saturday selling everything From clothing to fruit/ vegetables. Plenty of fog walking & feels safe.

Stunning ski station with best snow conditions and great slopes in the Girona Pyrenees. You can enjoy snowing during day and night with great atmosphere apres ski. If your hunger for ski is big, go for the ALP 2500 forfait combining Masella + La Molina ski stations having more than 100km available ski distance. Make sure to have a break at highest point (Tossa d'Alp, Refugi Niu de l'Aliga) at above 2500m+. Hope you enjoy your ski day at the Pyrenees!

Great place for skimo. Worth it to enjoy the sunset from the top of Tossa d'Alp.

Enough places to rent material, fast queues to get the forfeit, decent fast food options (I didn't try the main restaurant as it was almost full the day before Christmas). There are a couple of really easy tracks for newer people to learn or warm-up. There's an easy-medium long wide track that you can enjoy, either going alone or with a big group as people is usually respectful and gives you space to not bother you. Talking about harder tracks, they are beautiful. I really enjoyed them. I went alone fast and nonstopping till the end, and also with a small group of newer skiers, stopping during the tracks so they could catch a breath, and they were great. You could enjoy the faster sections, the turns, the stop-enjoy-the-view-and-go places. For the most professional skiers, I would recommend a couple of days to enjoy the station overall and the views. For the newcomers to skiing and snowboarding, this is a great station to start and get to an intermediate-high level while enjoying the progress. 10/10 I've been recommending it for 10 years already.

Wow, what a skiing resort. I loved it. Nice slopes with different levels. Good instructors available. Many places to rent ski gear from.

Great base for 10km hike up Tosa d'Alp. 9.58km with 935m of ascent. Tough and challenging day with weather and terrain but great opportunity to experience extreme conditions in environment you would not necessarily attempt on an isolated summit. Enjoy refreshments at man bars after hike but take car on icey car park at end of day.

I recommend it. You have different skiing routes to follow up. Nice restaurants. But on week ends it can be overcrowded.

It’s always a good fun family time at Masella. Friendly staff, good infrastructure . Parking is easy and near the lift, rental shoppes nearby . Reasonably priced considering .

Alejandra and Christina were wonderful and gave us great customer service. Alejandra provided a in depth tour of the organic vineyard and wine tasting was excellent. We also purchased a picnic which was a wonderful sampling and enough for lunch the next day as well. The vistas were spectacular

Highly recommend! We took the tour + the picnic and thoroughly enjoyed both. Our guide was knowledgeable and truly enthusiastic about the winery, the wines we tasted were amazing and the food provided at the picnic was top quality and plentiful. Would likely come again if I’m in the region.

Beautiful place. When we arrived, we were kindly informed by a lady at the shop that the tours were fully booked. Nevertheless, we got the opportunity to explore the area on ourselves to see the olive trees, hens and sheeps.

Whilst La Vinyeta has an element of fame thanks to its wines, their experiences are simply terrible. Really tried hard to like it as I have been a few times. Breakfast in the vineyard...unfortunately a complete waste of money. Food was very poor quality, flies everywhere, unfriendly staff. The following tour was brisk, and extremely poorly presented. Wasn't interested in hearing the faults of others. There are far better winery experiences in Emporda. Try harder guys.

We spent the weekend at DO Empordà, and this was the best experience we have attended. Lovely place, great food and wines, and amazing care from Josep and Marta. So much willing to be back!

We had an amazing time at the winery. Josep is so passionate about the land and was an amazing host and tour guide. The food they made was so delicious and fresh tasting, especially the cheese and olive oil from their vineyard. Highly recommend this place.

Amazing🤩 Such a beautiful place! This place is not on our "regular" tourists map... we just drove around looking for something to do after visiting the Dali museum at Figueres, and then we saw it on Google map. So glad we found it.

Delightful vinyard in the Alt Emporda wine region near Figueres. Sleek modern materials - glass, steel and oxidised iron - combine with traditional methods: hand picking, natural pest controls using bats and birds, sheep grazing between the vines. You can taste the wines then enjoy them with a customised picnic on site. Over 20 grape varieties allow unusual flavour combinations - the Sols dessert wine, matured in outdoor casks, is a treasure.

Very helpful and good English. This office offers a guided tour at a very reasonable price. The man who led the tour gave us a much deeper understanding of the citadel than the audio tour (we did both). Actually found the audio tour confusing compared to others we experienced in other towns. If you’re a dog lover, go see the statue of St Roch in the cathedral!

Shortest trip to Girona. Barcelona >Girona on the train. Train station > luggage storage closed > tourist information : "there is no other luggage storage in Girona" > train station > Figueres. Total time about 1 hour and left with a bad impression. I DO NOT recommend if traveling by train and carrying luggages with you. Good thing in Girona: Free toilets at the train station, though that's high price to pay just for a visit to the loo. The tourist information office is fully aware of the situation but it's clearly not a big enough issue to consider re-opening the storage at the station. I have attached a picture of the trains station for reference. I don't think they see many tourists here otherwise they would have probably resolved this problem by now. To be clear this is a town with cobbles everywhere and quite hilly, not easy to carry luggages around.

Take the orientation game for family with kids. Even if you don’t have kids, you will discover gardens which you would otherwise never find! Beautiful

Visited this information centre just to get help with a one day Girona itinerary and also the best parts of the old city walls to visit and which of those would be the least crowded. They also have maps and advices for day trips from Girona, which is useful. They also have an art/photography exhibition if you find yourself kicking your heels. The service is efficient and friendly, so can't ask for more than that.

Very helpful staff working in this office on Girona. It's well located centrally. There's a restroom and nice restaurants close by. The bridge built by Eiffel is a stone's throw from here.

The Tourist Information Office was very friendly and helpful. She spoke English very well too. She gave me a map and circled all the main points to see on it. Definitely was worth the day trip to Girona from Barcelona to see the bridges, the wall, the houses and so much more. It is a lot of walking and very hilly so be prepared.

Helpful staff. They even give you a small tourist map. Recommend solo Travellers stop over before venturing out on your tour.

We stayed in Girona for couple nights and went to tourist information centre to find contact to taxi to airport and there was a lovely girl with perfect English she couldn't do enough to help us. She booked taxi, gave us map and tips for surrounding areas. Extremely helpful and polite absolutely lovely person. Thanks to that lovely lady we don't know her name but she lived in Scotland. Girona Tourism Office was really friendly and knowledgeable. They were able to help me plan different bus routes through Costa Brava, information which was not easily found on web searches.
