Very beautiful book shop that is worth visiting. The book store fits very well in the old church and this way the architecture of the church can be appreciated. The book store is big and has several floors with books. There is also a cafe, but it is not worth visiting the cafe given there is excellent pie in places around the bookstore like the famous bisschopmolen bakkery.

Great experience in this historical building, a converted church to bookstore cafe. Atmosphere is very nice to enjoy a coffee next to a selection of thousands of books and even art pieces. People are very polite and helpful. A must see place in Maastricht.

Prettiest book store in Limburg. Upcycled or repurposed medical church. The place has a great ambiance.The building dates back to year 1300. There is also a nice cafe with good coffee and bites from coffee Lovers . Also they host lot Cultural events.

Really cool bookstore/library inside an old Cathedral. The multi levels offers you a close up look at the ceiling and structure of the Portices.

A decent collection of recent English books that will be sold fast. No surprising findings. Nice postcards and stationery. Unfortunately there was no cosy feeling of an independent bookstore because this place kind of lost itself among a tourist attraction, a church, a photo oppotunity and a bookstore.

While studying abroad in Maastricht, this bookstore was one of the coolest spots in town. Not only does it represent the European mindset of reuse and repurpose, but the look and feel of this church turned bookstore was legendary! Filled to the brim with crisp paperbacks and a little shop you could get lost in for hours! The friendly staff, coffee shop, and quaint finds makes this bookstore a must see!

A must see when is Maastricht! The renovation is exciting and worth a tour. The upper floors are now disorganized, with books scattered over the floor. the rest is amazing. Also a good spot for making pictures!

Great bookstore. Friendly personnel. Gorgeous location. Easily spent three hours browsing the many books. The first floor is mainly Dutch books, stationary, etc. Along with a nice coffee spot. The second floor is mainly English books, and graphic novels. The third floor is second-hand books. This bookstore alone is reason enough to visit Maastricht.

Location of this book store is fantastic! There are enough books, however (only in my opinion) choice of English books is not that big. They have all the trend books for sure! And again, the bookstore itself is gorgeous!

Visually it is a very nice store. Very iconic location, but it's not the best 'book'store. But that might be a personal thing, I like my bookstores to sell books and little else. This store however is more all round and sells records, CDs and smaller items like mugs, calenders and notebooks. Certainly book related items but it might have had an impact as the bookselection felt a little limited, though that might also be a space thing. Despite the large square footage at its core its a fairly small store. As a bonus though, there was also a selection of second hand books.

Awesome place, I love it. It is very atmospheric and old, I liked their collection of book and souvenirs and second hand books on the second floor.

Absolutely stunning location for a bookstore. If I had lived in Maastricht, you would find me here every day. There is a wide collection of Dutch books and a generous mix of English ones. There are also nice little presents and card games. The cafe at the back is seemingly cosy, but I did not try it.

Beautiful Fort built in a hill area. You can see the whole Maastricht city from here. There are guided tours here if you would like to learn about the history of this place.

The best of the best, parking down the hill, combined price with cave was very fine and definitely worthy, English speaking guide was excellent, he told us a lot of interesting things from fort history and also about the physics... the tour lasted about 1 hour, the fortress was very interesting from inside and from outside too, especially the well, cannons and city view, it was a very pleasant experience, many thanks to very well educated guide

Very cool settlement with a really fun tour. I highly suggest booking for the tour as you get a brisk walk through the innards of the dark building. Going through the narrow hallways and climbing the stairs is a lot of fun. The tour ends with a fantastic view of the city. Definitely go here if you wish to leave the busyness of the city centre. They also have cave tours btw if you want to be even more adventurous.

Our tour guide was amazing. He gave such interesting, fun and appropriate information about the caves/quarry. The artwork inside was so intriguing as well. So glad we made the trip there.

The fort itself is just a bunch of bricks. Tour guide was very informative. Views of the city are good from the fort as well

Great guided tour, first of the unique Fort St Pieter and then the underground Grotten (limestone quarry in a system of caves and tunnels). Definitely worth a visit. Our Dutch tour guide, Rieki (?) was giving a great and lively walking tour.

One of important historical landmark in Maastricht. It’s situated in the outskirts of the city, but accessible by walking or bus. You can find this 19th century fort, situated on the top of the hill. Don’t worry, it’s just 125 metres from sea level, easy trek to reach the top. Not sure about the entry inside the fort, but you can enjoy amazing view of the Maastricht city from the top of this hill. Possibly there are guided tours to know about the fort, you can go with them to know more. Plenty of parking spaces are available, if you are comfortable with car. Highly recommended.👍

We bought a combo visit of the Fort and the caves. The guides, Marcel and Thom, made it a very interesting and entertaining experience. We enjoyed the tour and also learned a lot of things. It's better to book in advance, so you can get to choose the hours. Also, bring an extra layer for the caves.

I love my experiences there with the lovely guide called Pauline. It was one of the best tours I have had so far. The tour, the guide, and the weather (on that day, not too hot or too cold) were perfect. I ended up knowing a lot more about the places and definitely will visit again because there are still more places underground that we didn't cover this time. Pauline suggested visiting again during the weekend to explore another area underground. When you buy the ticket, you can choose either the fort or the cave. I recommend you do both. I think they are worth exploring.

Absolute must thing to do in Maastricht. The fort and the caves can be visited through the tours only (I think) and it is better to book in advance just to be sure. The tour would take you inside the fort from ground level to the top and explain the history of it. it was fascinating and last about an hour, the tickets for the tour and cave can be bought together. There is plenty of car parking available here but the best way is by the bike even though it is slight uphill, bike parking is where the restaurant is. Arriva bike is also available here. There is also a mini-golf.

We loved our experience in the caves and vault. Joe is an amazing tour guide! He is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. He made us feel very safe as we explored the areas of the chalk stone mine. Such a unique experience and a great memory to have from our trip to Europe.

I had a good walk around the square, there wan't a market on when I wend but I've been told the market is very good. i still enjoyed the walk, there are many different places to eat or drink and it is very clean.... worth a visit

According to some people this is the oldest church in Netherlands. Definitely worth to visit such a historic place. Free entry. Highly recommended to visit if you are in Maastricht. It’s situated in the heart of city centre.

a Gothic church with beautiful architecture and a shrine for the Holy Mary star of the seas where you can lit candles and pray in english, german or holland. the walls are dark and you can feel it is been burned and kept this way, cafes and restaurants are in the yard facing.

One ofThe most beautiful basilica I have come across in europe. Candles going at 95cents for a tall candle and half for the smaller ones that u can lit n pray. Inside the church is beautiful. Tall high ceilings w natural lighting gives u a serene and holy feel to it

The cathedral is located right in the middle of cobblestone alleys complete with shops and restaurants. The statue of Mother Mary holding her son made me cry. It is a must visit if you want to feel connected to God.

Really nice visit. This is a church that has it all, museum, crypt, chapels, archaeological excavation and an inner patio. You can visit the whole place in just 30min to 1h. It’s not that big, and the museum is quickly viewable. The treasury has many gold artifacts including relics and other objects made from wood and/or ivory. Don’t forget to visit also the Bergportaal, it’s really and incredible entrance. The price is only €4,50. Debit was accepted.

Really a beautiful cathedral in the center of Maastricht. You can also go inside by purchasing a ticket which us of around 4 euros.

There’s a self-help tour that costs 4.50 Euro to get to the inside the main church. Make sure you get a pamphlet before entering the main church. It’s a great way to donate to the church and you’ll get to see the main chapel as well. It’s a win win situation. This basilica has this amazing strong church scent, a room with history slideshows and other valuable artifacts. It’s a beautiful cathedral.

A must see in Maastricht!! Part of the Basilic is converted into museum. There is a map-guide (included with a 3€ ticket) describing the most important elements of the church. So the self tour is sufficient.

Fantastic basilica which is the largest Romanesque church in the Netherlands. St. Servatius is saint patron of city of Maastricht. The treasury contains impressive collection of Christan artifacts i.a. relics of St. Sevatius and St. Cosmas & Damian.

The Basilica of Saint Servatius is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Servatius, in the city of Maastricht, the Netherlands.The church, already the fourth in a row, which was erected on the tomb of the saint, since 384 years. You can enter the basilica from the side of Charlemagne Square (Keizer Karelplein). From here, they also enter the Treasury (Schatkamer Sint-Servaasbasiliek), where the cup and cross of the Holy One, precious caskets, precious metal products, silk, and ivory are kept. It receives visitors from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00, on Sunday - from 12:30 to 17:00. Admission to adults will cost 4,00 €; children - 2,50 €.

This is mostly Netherland’s oldest stone bridge. Though half portion was broken due to a disaster, but later on it was connected. Now it’s a charming foot bridge in Maastricht,Netherland. To get full view if this bridge please go to the nearest two bridges situated both side of it. This is a must watch place in Maastricht. You can know long history about this city and this bridge. Picture perfect place. Also there are lots of places to seat beside the river, from where you can watch this one clearly. Highly recommended 👍

The best time to visit the bridge or Maastricht in fact is early morning or in the evening when the sun is at the right angle.

This is the city my friend studied in 2017. And he told me that I must come to this bridge and took pics and sent them to him. I could feel how he loves this city.

Very authentic pastry, we tried a few items, the waffle, their famous cherry pie, and a veggie sandwich. Also, at the back of the store, you will find an actual windmill. It’s pretty cool! Worth to visit !!

A very cute little place! Staff were friendly and happy to let us wait 20 minutes so we could have fresh Vlaai (you must get some to try! It was amazing). Lovely little atmosphere and a decent price too

One of the most famous bakeries in Maastricht where they make bread and pies with flour from the mill that is over a hundred years old. we ate a delicious apple pie, when we went the bakery was full and they improvised a place for us.😀

Unfortunately, the main shop only sells full or half tarts, so I went ahead and took a half abrikozenvlaai (local variety of apricot tart). It was tasty, but somehow the experience just missed the five star mark.

The perfect place to try the speciality of Limburg, Vlaai. Everything is made in house, they even have a watermill to grind the flour. A part of this Cafe is a museum which includes the mechanism of the mill, which is very interesting. So this place is perfect to get familiar with southern Dutch Pie culture.

The staff there wasn’t friendly, food was okay but overpriced for what we get. It was €7 for 2 small bread with a few things on top.

The coffee is a simple place in the heart of the city. I tried the apple tart with nuts, the taste is very delicious, the service is good, but there is no outdoor seating, the interior is hot.

Undoubtedly the best bakery in town 🥳. If you are in Maastricht, then this one is a MUST MUST try. Please remember that getting a seating here during peak hours might be a challenge . Plan accordingly !

Very, very popular place. They have several kind of Limburgse vlaai of which I have tried the rhubarb, cherry and apple and nuts. Be aware that the nuts that we had were peanuts, not walnuts or some other kind of nut that you would expect to be in a pie. They were all delicious. I’m partial to the cherry but I think strawberry would also be good. There are also a few vegan options as well which is very nice. Try to come earlier as they may run out as it gets busy. The service is hit or miss, as with a busy, touristy place. There are often lots of people in line waiting and it can be a bit chaotic inside so please be aware. Also, since the pies didn’t have labels on them we had to ask which one was which. Sometimes they bring out a fresh one which is worth checking out. Also, there is a small water mill behind that is worth checking out. Even though this is a very touristy place, I feel that the Limburgse vlaai here are worth waiting in line for.

Two thin slices of ginger + one slice of lemon in warm water for 3,5 euros. Personally i find this kinda rip-off. For the rest, they have good bread, and staff is friendly.

This place gets very busy but it's definitely worth waiting for a table as the pie is amazing. If you just want take away then they also have a store a few doors along.

I can assure you are standing in front of the best Vlaair in Maastricht! This bakery makes the most flavourful traditional dutch pies I ever tried. Truly recommend to stop by and try these, specially the strawberry and rhubarb one.

We were in Maastricht for a day and then you have to get a real Limburg flan. We ended up here, it seems to be the flan store in Maastricht. It is a popular tourist store and very busy when we were there. We only ate two different flans. The cherry and the apple apricot. A cup of coffee of course goes very well with that but we are a bit critical of coffee and decided not to drink that here. The cherry flan was the favorite. The staff is nice and friendly. And speaks both Dutch and English. The place with is pretty basic design. It has a bit of an old style of design and a bit of a peasant style. They have we very nice all the flans and part of the sandwiches visible for visitors walking by and standing in the store. Besides the seating areas for visitors there is also insight into the new modern kitchen where everything is prepared. For both visitors inside and sales. During our visit in the store there was no music on unfortunately.

Great museum with a plethora of art showcased, a gift shop, and a nice restaurant. It is worth noticing that its focus is on contemporary art. I truly enjoyed the few hours I spent there, as well as their food. We visited in the afternoon of a weekday during summer vacation and it wasn't cramped at all.

Very big museum, don’t have enough time to finish all parts. My suggestion for visitors: leave enough time to explore the exhibition and also for the interaction parts (paper-made hat etc..). The museum is located in a nice open area just on the side of The Meuse. The building architecture is quite interesting.

This is not a museum for everyone, but everyone should give it a try. It's not a museum for kids as they would not understand most of it and probably not enjoy— but you can still try. Bonnefanten is a museum that displays a few exhibitions of contemporary art per time. This time there were an exhibition of comparative art, one on a Indonesian performance artist and one a contemporary "portrait" artist. The museum has also a permanent collection. It is worth a visit to have a grasp of what art means today and what doesn't mean anymore. Also the architecture of the building is a reason to go to bonnefanten museum at least one time.

Beautiful museum with an expansive collection and really lovely staff. The Isaac Julien retrospective is an absolute must-see: be ready to spend way more time than you expect in here – either plan multiple visits, or just let this eye-opening exhibition fill up your agenda for the day. The diverse selection of English books in the museum shop was also a very pleasant surprise. (Free entry with museumkaart! 😊)

Interesting art museum in Maastricht. They have a variety of modern and older art on display. Some of the contemporary art on the upper floors was a bit disconcerting but that is the point. Not our favorite style but I’m sure there are those who enjoy it. Overall, I’d say this is a good place to visit if you are in Maastricht and looking for an intriguing museum to contemplate art. You could easily spend 1-2 hours here.

Nice lay-out of the museum. The 1th floor permanent exhibition doesn't do it for me. 2nd & 3rd floor more contemporary arts with a few highs and lows. Cafe serves great food and thumbs up for their friendly staff!

Really nice mix of the Dutch Masters paintings, along with the 2 other exhibitions which were focused on modern art. Unusual but really appreciated the curation. Staff all very friendly and well worth the visit. Some of the art could do with a bit more explaining but perhaps that is the way with modern art. Appreciated the student discount also (allows international students!)

This is a second tier museum (globally speaking) but very progressive curators. Mostly, Dutch artists and arts of German decent are showcased. However, loved inclusive mindset of the curators and restoration workshop experience. If you are in Maastricht and have a lazy afternoon, this is would definitely be worth the trip.

A museum in Maastricht that needs to be allocated at least 2-3 hours. As well as classical permanent works, installations that touch on contemporary international issues are also interesting. At the entrance of the museum, there is a shop where you can buy original works. In addition, the restaurant on the ground floor is ideal for resting and eating something before or after your visit. You can go to the top floor by elevator and go down. If you find volunteers on the 2nd floor who are more than happy to provide information about the exhibits in the museum, do not neglect to listen. Access The museum is a bit outside the old center and on the other side of the river. It is possible to turn this situation into an opportunity for a nice walk. You can reach the museum by walking 20-25 minutes from the City Center. On your way, cross the Sint Servaasbrug bridge, one of Maastricht's beautiful bridges, and walk parallel to the river on Rechtstraat street. This street is an alternative to the old center, with cute shops and art galleries, and a very convenient street to walk before visiting a museum. You can buy original works at affordable prices from the shop called Maaslands Antiqariaat Lijtenmakerij, which is actually a frame shop on the street. When you reach the toy store named Kadowinkel in Twinkel, you can turn towards the river and walk the rest of the way to the museum parallel to the Meuse river. On the way back, you can walk back parallel to the river and reach the city center from the Hoge Brug bridge.

One of the oldest city gates of Netherlands. You can see some ruins and ancient structures here. Nothing much to do. You could spend like 10 15 mins max here.

It is a nice historical port from really old times. Going inside was just an amazing experience, not for port itself, but because of the people that explains you the full history of the place! I learned a lot about Maastricht and history of The Netherlands! I was really impressed by that!

I think it is the oldest gate in the Netherlands, but for sure is a piece of Maastricht history and a must-see when exploring the city. Nicely preserved and imposing, inside the city alleys. Only negative, we didn't find someone to ask about the history, and we compromised with information from the internet, as we walk along the remnant section.

What a great place to visit. FABULOUS photo ops!! If you walk through the gates, just off to the right is a little doorway-takes you up into the tower and a small museum. The 2 gentleman there are quite informative!! Great find!!!!

If you like history, this is the place! The guides really know a lot, and they will be very glad in explain the history from this gate and the city!

A small museum located on the second level. The entrance is on the right behind the gate house. Entrance fees applies €3 each. The museum is small with limited artefacts on display. But nonetheless interesting. The steps up the museum is narrow and do be cautious when ascending the steps.

As the Oldest City Gate in the Country, and served as a Southeastern Entrance to the medieval town Masstricht, Helpoort was built in the early 13th Century as part of the Fortification. Due to it had been used as a prison, the Portal acquired the name of "Hell's Gate". Well preserved, Helpoort is now a Museum. If you visit Maastricht, a Medieval Religious Centre, and also a Garrison Town, Helpoort should be on your sightseeing list indeed. A few photos as my recommendation.

I was in the central square for a quite short amount of time, but it was just enough to fall in love with this cozy pretty place. It was a rainy day during the pandemics and this added a lot to the experience, as it was so silent and relaxing, to simply admire peacefully everything around

Dutch classicism in a Burgundian city. Since 1664, the town hall has stood on the market in Maastricht, designed by Pieter Post, the architect who was widely known as the master builder of the Oranje-Nassaus. To create enough space, several buildings and part of the city wall had to be demolished. In 1659, construction of the council house, which was built entirely in natural stone, began. After six years, the town hall was already in use, due to a lack of money, the tower was not completed until 1684. The sober interior was further embellished, especially between 1830 and 1850. The double staircase, as is often assumed, has nothing to do with the duality of Maastricht, it was designed purely for aesthetic reasons.

Wonderful place to relax have a coffee in the morning. Most cafes open from 10am though. Scenery is nice wether is great. They have stand alone stores u can buy cheese or fried finger food. Its queer to see quite a number of chinese restaurants around here

I just followed the red tower from the square. The church is a little bit different from all others but still pretty to visit. If you travel to Holland and Maastricht, you must visit this magnificent church. Even if you haven't, the entry fee is not so much and it includes an excellent free audio tour. Best part of the church is climbing the 228 steps up the narrow spiral staircase to the top of the tower for a beautiful view of the city of Maastricht.

Receptionists aren’t controlling the in and out flow of people going to the panorama view. Stairway is very narrow and there shouldn’t be a lot of people using it at the same time. The view was amazing but I wasn’t a fan of people pushing each other to get down and up the stairs in a space which barely had 70cm width.

Had the pleasure of listening to the Chamber Choir from Dresden here this morning during a service. It was a beautiful event, part of the Musica Sacra Festival, with friendly charming people and wonderful music in a stunning ancient landmark church. What a privilege!

The church takes its name from John the Baptist and was founded around 1200 by the chapter of Saint Servatius to function as a baptismal and parish church for the Saint Servatius parish. St. John's Church was first mentioned in 1218. The current church dates from the 14th and early 15th centuries. The Gothic baptistery was added in 1414. The original tower collapsed on June 8, 1366 after a violent storm. The current tower was completed in the second half of the fifteenth century after a long restoration. The tower had not always had the striking red color; the colors yellow (early 18th century) and white (early 19th century) are mentioned in writings. During this last restoration, the tower was repainted red in 1983.

I visited this museum with my boyfriend and parents in August. Nice museum, well maintained, very nice photographic exhibition, everyone liked it. Honest ticket price (€11), if you have the annual museum card it is free.

Very small though unique museum. I really enjoyed the stories behind the pictures and the meanings behind them, really makes you think about it:) I enjoyed it, but it is definitely not a must see in Maastricht

Very nice, cozy museum right along vrijthof Square. Went to see the 'tomorrow will be beter' exhibition, with photographs of people over a 100 years old. I'd recommend to use the virtual tour for background information.

We came here without expectations yet the modern exhibit of Ted Noten was quite interesting and fascinating! I'm impressed with his incorporation of 3D printing into his models. It just shows that gives so much more flexibility and creativity for his expression. The place has a good cafe at the reception. There's also a locker area where you can store your stuff temporarily as you go around the museum. At the end of our visit, I helped some of the museum staff on some technical issue with the 3D printer in the lobby. The museum ladies were very nice and courteous. We really enjoyed this visit!

Dainty little natural museum with an impressive main door. The first room is a cinema with an overview of the history of the area. The following rooms are dedicated to fossils and different collections of stones. The mosasaurus reproduction is well presented. The rest of the mesum is full of staffed animals and other treasures.

The exhibition is really nice but unfortunately there are no English translations of the texts around the museum. Hard to follow for non-Dutch speakers.

It is overall a nice place, but if you're foreigner, you will not see artifact labels in English.(few have, but mainly no) and it is quite tiny museum.

A good museum, good explanation, but there is often not enough explanation in the Dutch labels (if there are any labels at all), and no English explanation. The shop is small but nice and the garden nice enough, but otherwise quite a small establishment with an okay collection. I felt the museum deteriorated a bit as it went along, from good explanation and artefacts (mostly fossils) at the beginning, to just a lot of slightly creepy taxidermy at the end. I feel that needs renovating a bit towards the end to be a bit more 21st Century!

I wanted to LOVE this museum. At first the video you watch is super informative. It’s subtitled in English but very hard to read. White type on a moving background. But still I got the basics. Then when I went on the tour absolutely no signs or descriptions in English. So I’m giving it minus one star. Overall though it’s a great little museum for the city. Learned by using google translate what most things were. With as many students and tourists who come here it wouldn’t be hard to also have the descriptions in English. The museum is two floors and an outside portion where more bones are kept. Staff was warm and friendly. But oh you can only pay with maestro no credit cards accepted. But for only €8 it’s a great bargain and very interesting. I spent about an hour here. Recommended with above reservations. 🦖

It's a very nice museum with a somewhat big collection of old artifacts and fossils. It is very centered around Limburg from now to 400 million years ago. The reason I give 3 stars and not 4 is because it has a big gap in the timeline that is not explained. There are also some missing explanations so you could miss context about the fossils or the history of it.

I visited there on Sunday and few people there so I entered directly. If you want to translate all Dutch informations, you should spend about 2 hours. There are some items that you can interact. The museum is much more better than I expected.

very fun place to go! there was a lot of kids and also a bunch of adults enjoying the museum! not super big so only took me a bit less than 1 hour to look at everything. if you don’t speak dutch, unfortunately a lot of the exhibitions don’t have translation for english. was nice regardless!

They had beautiful specimens, sadly they didn't give a lot of background. The signs next to each piece were small and didn't have a lot of information about it. Most of the museum is about where each item was found. Not about the animals themselves. Also a few to many stuffed animals for my taste. Some in bad shape, the stitches were then very visible.
