Ribe city was very peaceful and good place to take a walk with my dogs.

Beautiful chapel. Almost 1000 yrs old and still amazing. If you get a chance to enter, do it. It's also free.

Absolutely beautiful building. Every little detail from the rain gutters to the door handles are just exquisite. A true testimony of an era where craftsmen took pride in their work. The view from the tower is amazing.

Attended Christmas Eve service and actually enjoyed it. The sermon was relatable. Only thing to be aware of is that’s quite cool in there, so wear something warm. An absolute must-see when in Ribe.

Very nice historic church. If you're into history or very old architecture then I'd encourage a visit. The area of the town the church is at is also very charming.

Found this little gem while looking for cultural places in the Explo App 👌 Awesome cathedral, beautiful and still very well intact. Mid-week it’s basically empty so you can enjoy the full beauty without any other people! 😊

Good tourist attractions. One of the oldest village, heritage houses and church in Denmark. Cozy market place and restaurants nearby with live music if lucky. Enjoy your stay. Cheers!

Old cathedral with a lot of history inside. It has more flashy things inside than a normal traditional Danish Church, but it's a real beauty to walk inside. It's free to enter, but you have the option to go to the bell tower for a small fee.

Ribe is the oldest city in Denmark. Highly recommend to visit it if you are interested in old architecture, cute and fairy nordic atmosphere.

The cathedral is a stunning building, with a unique century-spanning architecture. The cathedral is open and free to visit, with only the tower tour being demanding a small payment. Overall great experience. Remember to be silent in the building, as this is something which affects one's enjoyment of the church!!

Fantastic history & experience with this special piece of Denmark. Absolutely worth a visit with a memory for life.

This was a work day out from our diving Vessel and the Viking Centre does not disappoint!!!! I was really surprised how good it was it just gives you that feeling of actually how it was back in the day the volunteers are great and very helpful they is lots todo and I believe you can actually live on the site dressed in all the Viking clothes to really be a Viking The restaurant food was very good large portions and the shop has many items to buy and keep for memory’s. This place is great for children of all ages and adults certainly recommend a day trip

Very fascinating to visit here. It is a reconstruction of Ribe from around 860 and people are living like they would have around that time as well. The people are super friendly and always open for a chat. There are enough activities to last you a good couple hours.

We loved this. The kids had a great time finding the culprit who stole Frida's salt. All the things they could do, it was amazing and so much fun. The grown-ups had just as much fun looking around and joining the kids in the salt mystery. And I think our daughter will try out archery at home now.

Our trip to the Viking Center was well worth it! The area is quite big and you can easily spend 2-4 hours there. There are many vikings in the houses and tents and you can also talk to the. Many of them spoke German, others Danish. At some tents and houses you can also buy stuff such as wooden swords or jewelry. At each station there is some information about it (in Danish, German and English). The buildings are built in a way how archeologists think they looked like centuries ago. It is really interesting and there is a lot of extra activities for kids such as archery, wood crafting or coin minting (these come at an extra price, though). There is also livestock there such as chickens, cows, sheep, geese and pigs. Keep in mind that everything is outdoor so dress accordingly. The entry fee was 19 euro per adult but well worth it.

Don’t think of going without a car. It is about 3Km walk from nearest train station, Ribe. If you go on a rainy day, make sure you have good boot and rain protection with you. Rain, wind, cold make the experience challanging.

It was great experience to see how the vikings lived thanks to the living actors. There are also some activities available on different times for free like making wooden nails, training with shield and sword as well as some paid activities like coin making, archery. I enclosed a photo of those. I recommend you to go to falconry show. It was amazing. Go there earlier before the appointed time as the sitting places can quickly run out :) The people in the village are really nice and eagerly explain you (also in English) what is their role in the village. In the shop there are plenty of souvenirs, there are very nice jewellery. It took as a little more than 4 hours to see all and to talk to the townsfolk.

A historical museum village, as it should be. The surroundings of the village are very natural, the fences, bridges, everything is kept as close to the era as possible. In the museum itself, there are guides but also individual actors who willingly tell you about their craft or everyday life. In any case, there is a lot of heart and soul in the museum. Dogs are very welcome, our Podenco became a little attraction for the museum team. We will definitely come again.

If you go as far as Ribe, you won't regret it! The Viking village is a real blast from the past, every object, house and environment is cared for by archaeologists happy to explain the history of this people. Go there even in the rain, the real Vikings are not afraid of the weather!

What a wonderful experience, for children, but also for adults. Very friendly people, willing to tell their stories and bring you back in time. A lot to see and to do. Absolutely worth the visit. Best to go early, it's a very popular (busy) place later in the day.

Very nicely done. A must-do for every tourist in the neighborhood. Friendly staff (willing to answer your questions), detailed houses, informative.... Dogs are allowed. Kids can buy an activity card and there is a very pretty themed playground.

We had a fun day at VikingeCenter with our dog. The atmosphere is amazing and there was plenty of water provided for dogs to drink on hot days. We skipped the activities but later regretted it because they look fun to do, even for adults (they are sadly not appropriate for dogs).

We took a walk from Esbjerg (about 30'). We came back with the bus. Interesting art. We stayed about 30'.

Just wow, if you need to see something extraordinary, these sculptures are it. A Danish version of Easter Island. A beach to enjoy.

It was quite cool place a really 4 big structure, 45 minutes drive from Blävant but it worth to drive. No tickets free entrance and with free parking.

Very pretty! It smells like fish but what do you expect? That’s normal. They should change the description though. “The kids can play in between the legs of the statues” sounds a bit strange…

The figures are nice but not as impressive as the place. There’s a parking spot, the view of the sea and the harbor. The wind and the shore to see. If you’re here in the summer bring something to eat and/or drink and enjoy the views!

Credits by Vadehavskysten "Visitors arriving in Esbjerg from the sea are greeted by Svend Wiig Hansen’s monumental sculpture "Man meets the Sea", which was raised on the occasion of Esbjerg celebrating its 100th anniversary as an independent municipality in 1994. It was officially unveiled on 28 October 1995. The sculpture, made of white concrete, portrays the meeting between pure, unspoilt mankind and nature. Man, innocent as from his mother’s womb. Man before rising up and beginning to act. That, according to Wiig Hansen, was where things started to go wrong - when man got"dirt" on his hands. Wiig Hansen has portrayed this encounter by creating a universal sculpture that has the mood of a temple, of an acropolis - a sculpture with a sacred aura to it. This sacred aura is attained by the rigid appearance of the human figures, something which reminds the onlooker of the Memnon columns or Ramses II gazing out over the Nile Valley at Abu Simbel. It is also impossible for the onlooker not to be reminded of the mysterious stone figures on the Easter Islands. The legs are like the columns of a Greek temple. The lower legs have been made so long precisely so as to achieve this columnlike effect. The upper legs are short in proportion. The identical heads, which with their inscrutable and unfathomable expressions gaze out towards Skallingen and the entrance to the harbour, also contribute greatly to the glimpse you get of the supernatural - a hint of the divine. The sculpture is not tied down to any one age. Its expressiveness, laden with atmosphere and emotion, makes it eternally valid. That the number of figures sitting on the shore is precisely four is because Wiig Hansen found the number harmonious - more in accordance with the basic sculptural concept of "pure" mankind than, for example, three or five. Because of its size (it is nine metres tall) and charisma, the sculpture has become a landmark for Esbjerg. In clear weather the bodies, sitting there like unfurled sails, can be seen 10 kilometres away. Esbjerg has been enriched by a monumental sculpture of international stature."

Beautiful sight, clean beach, nice cold sea and iconic statue’s about covers it all. Perfect place to get the view of sunsets in the city. Nice place for summer picnics. Also very close to the Fish Museum so can be made a good full day event.

Very nice, shallow water, great for the kids. Fine sand but also small rocks by the water. There is a small parking lot which was pretty full on sunday. Great for a day by the beach.

Majestic figures looking out over the sea, super accessible and a small but free parking lot right next to it. The flat beach is nice for a stroll as well.

Great place stop for a picnic or a walk along the beach when in Esbjerg. Right next to the lovely Fishery museum. Parking, toilets, picnic tables and trash cans available. At low tide you can see thousands of sand worms along with mussels, clams, crabs and and seaweed. Great place for beach combing. 💙🌊❤️🇩🇰

Drove down from Stauning just to see this sculpture. Stunning. The beach was nice, but the sight of these sentinels by the sea was worth the journey for sure.

Absolutely fantastic, I use to sail from harwich to esberg via dfds ferry. When I saw the 4 men I knew holiday with danish family had started. Fond memories, now I'm old I still have to see the 4 men. Great times, danish are great people. Very helpful, kind and caring.

This is the place for children. Seal feeding. Lots of amazing tanks of seaside. Plus a child's heaven as regards a playground. Cafe, interesting history about fishing in the area and the move to gas, oil and wind production Cafe, toilets, plenty of parking. Entry €15 for adults. Plus it is dog friendly. Recommended

We simply loved the place. The weather was bad and we decided to go there. We ended up staying the full day there and enjoyed all of it: the aquarium, the sea lions feeding, the special exhibitions and even the outdoor area dedicated to boats/ships (unfortunately I don’t have pictures for this part). It is a small/medium size museum which offers so much. We also had lunch there and it was delicious.

The museum is absolutely lovely and, especially the "technique part" with information on the oil production has many interactive parts for kids and child-at-heart grownups. In the outer part of the museum you can visit old fisher boats, a bunker from ww2 and some other exhibits. A big room informs about the development of fishing and presents personal experience of former fishermen. The aquarium is great and the fish really impressive. The tanks seem to be a little small for the bigger fish, but that's a problem every aquarium has. The splits between species appropriate keeping and costefficient implementation isn't easy. The four seals are awesome as well. Sadly, the price is really high. In my opinion, education shouldn't cost that much (~14€ p. P., even for discounted groups like students).

This Museum is great. Here you can see old ships and old machines. Also you can go in an old bunker where you can get information’s about the previous war in the city. Also it was interesting to get information’s about the shipping in the City. All the sea creatures you see here are nice to watch. For me the best Part of the museum was to watch the seals in the Water. It’s a really great Museum for everyone.

Great museum with a good restaurant, all the family was happy. We spend 3h there, but with older children it can be more.

Great family experience. A lot more interesting than we expected beforehand. Very accessible with a stroller. Our daughter loved the fish tanks, seal basin and the playground. Trampolines for children 3+. Parking is free.

Very nice. My kiddo loved it. Perhaps some vegetarian foods at the restaurant could be a suggestion, other than fries.

We had a great day here. There was arranged activities for kids that were both fun and extremely educational (for us adults as well). The guide was fun and very sweet and totally made our day. Teaching our kids how to properly hold crabs, tie knots and other cool stuff. The food at the restaurant was pretty good, and once again there were friendly and service minded to the extreme. The place is a very good place to spend an entire day...the outdoor playground is pretty cool.

What a nice museum, it was very big, with many different topics, animals, games and other cool things! Free for kids younger than 18, the restaurant was extremely full, but also good.

Really well structured museum with lots of knowledge of birds and sea life in the Wade sea. There's sounds in each section representing the topic at hand. Really makes you feel like you are e.g. among the birds you are learning about. Lots of visual representations either as stuffed animals, aquariums with sea animals, videos, etc. Very kid friendly with lots of interactive elements, like buttons you can push, screens, microscopes, things you can touch, etc. Not too much or too little text on each of the signs. Very well balanced museum suitable both for families and grown-ups :)

Impressive tour through the dry seabed at low tide. Our five year old found it so interesting she didn't want to leave, even though she could not fully understand the explanation. Compliments to the very nice and knowledgeable guide.

We didn’t plan to visit this amazing national park gallery or museum(?) but by chance, after hanging Billund, the city of Lego for couple of days, found this place on google map and visited on a sunny day. it was just BEAUTIFUL! My 5 year old son enjoyed so much, almost same as LEGO house. Nice ex and interior design, also very well done user experience design! Strongly recommend to visit here if you are around.

Very interesting. Is worth a visit. Gives a very good overview of the local coastal area and wildlife. Good parking area. Easy access to the centre. Toilets inside and also outside in the parking area. Has a small picnic area and children's play/ adventure area. Local area very good for bird watching.

I really enjoyed visiting the Vaden center. In the morning we went on a seal safari and returned in the afternoon to explore the center. The seals were amazing, they were chilling on the beach and I felt like a three year old. Walking on the sea floor full of shells and sea worms was also fun. We had the best guide and that was Luisa. She showed us the whole center, talked about the local fauna and flora, explained the tides, we could touch a starfish and a seal skin. We talked about oysters and stopped at ecology. I really liked the sea eagle hanging from the ceiling in the last room near the bird migration. I recommend a visit and I hope to return one day with my family. And I was completely blown away by the Vadehavscentre building.

An absolute delight. To be taken with a an amazing pair or knowledgeable guides to search the low tide and find samples . Later to be examined under microscopes and have all details explained. Then to walk through the museum that you release your specimens into a live tank that you are allowed to gently and humanly touch if you dare. Bird section was spectacular too. And the lunch in the canteen was superb I highly recommend the rhubarb dessert 🍨. A definite for kids of all ages .including adult kids.

Another great experience with the naturalist explaining the environment. Then we gathered various plants along the seashore plus oysters clams muscles and small sea snails. The little food fest at the end was great with super company in nice conversations. Thank you for the great experience!

Beautiful building! Amazing architecture and a nice interactive exhibition that allowed both adults and children to learn about the area by touch, smell and sounds. Did not visit the cafe, but it looked nice.

This museum unites nature, science, architecture, design and art in an incredible way. It not only shows its visitors everything to know about the Wadden Sea, but also makes them feel connected to the area and it’s diverse plants and animals. The guided tours are also highly recommended.

A little too expensive for what is actually offered. They advertise that they have two exhibitions but one of them is only a single room with stuffed out birds in it. I found 19€ entry fee way too much. I have been to better museums which cost less.

Nice small museum with late viking history moving to christianism specially transitioning towards protestantism. They did have a small room super exciting for kids. They get to wear the robes, play with the wooden shield and swords and some more interactive games including viking board games

This is a lot larger than I thought it would be, they have a lot of artifacts. The staff was friendly and super nice!

In the museum you can see the history of Ribe, including various artefacts from the excavations. There is a large parking lot in front of the museum. The tour is not suitable for small children.

Good Installation and depiction of the Vikings history, great collection of original and historical findings. The reason for the 3 stars, it had very little texts in English or other languages, besides dänish, so for international tourist the amount of information provided is mostly visual. An Audioguide would have been a great add on. The price was a bit too high for a 30 min exhibition (around 26€ for two adults).

Visiting from North Carolina, USA with 4 kiddos (12,9, 7, 4). We loved this museum, it is small but packed with artifacts! There is English on the signs and although not alot it makes for a good pace to go through the museum when you have kids with you. The young man working out the service desk was friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English. The gift shop is affordable and there is also a cafe. The kids area of the museum is great for little imaginations, and kids are free! Great value, good place to see history!

Delighted to experience the ancient history of my heritage. Ribe Vikings did an extremely nice exhibit to wander through & enjoy with my wife. The years went by from old age to recent years so it was an update through the centuries of life in this old region. We both had a great time here... The shop was extremely well equipped so we spent almost $300,- US dollars in Viking style equipment & handywork.. Well done Ribe.. Last but not least - the children's area was also quite impressive for kids to learn the deal of hardship in the old times.. Thumbs up & definitely worth the time..

The exhibition on the vikings in Ribe is more or less the complete history of the vikings and their life. A good combination of hard archeology and creative illustration

Small museum with nice and educational expositions related to the foundation of Ribe and its expansion and transformation during and shortly after the medieval period.

Very nice museum about the history of Ribe, from the viking age till early modern times. There is a lot of beautiful material on display, and the dioramas with wooden figures are beautifully made. Upstairs there is an interesting display on the most recent excavation, but sadly a lot of the audio was only in Danish. Worth the visit though!
