It’s a very nice and huge complex with animals and all. It does retain the feel of being a historical place a lot more than those that are currently in use and right at the heart of a town. I was even able to pet one of the piggies. She loved having her face scratched.

A somewhat hidden gem of a county park off the beaten path. Winding road in and windy once you arrive but beautiful, remote spot along the ocean. The Jalama Beach Store has you covered with sundries and famous Jalama burgers. Not much cell service but basic wifi at the store. Day use fee or first-come first-serve camping after reservations fill. Nice new playground, adequate restrooms, and a dump station. A couple cabins with views available from the hill top. Walk the beach for more scenic views and lots of neat geology.

Their wines never disappoint. Refined and special. They hooked us and we always stop by when in the area. Beautiful winery, beautiful area.

Purple furniture. Metal sculptures. A winery dog with brown eyes as soft as crushed velvet. The Flying Goat lifts you away at first sight. I first entered the Goat on a weekday afternoon in 2017, drawn by the premise and promise of a sparkling wines flight. The unique tastes of fizz, acid, and citrus made my tongue euphoric. The cheeky GHETTO graffiti on the walls made me chuckle. And the novelty of a tasting room that combined high-class methode champenoise offerings with plush, stuffed billygoat decor made my heart sing. I've returned to the Goat, time and time again, for their wine. But I've also marveled at art shows, savored honey tastings, and enjoyed made-to-order crepes in this niche space. Host Kate has a love for the community that shows in her hospitality. Winemaker Norm has a gift for turning out high-quality products that turn skeptics into believers. Case in point? My father became a sparkling wine fan after tasting the Goat's brut rose. My sister loves their red wines so much, she hoarded a bottle of their 2012 santa rita hills pinot noir for years until she found a worthy occasion to pop the cork. I have learned that the best gifts come from the most unexpected sources. The people at the flying goat, from the full-timers to the moonlighters, have opened my eyes to the incredible world of sparkling wine production, pairing, and appreciation. Give yourself the gift of a visit...and a limerick.
