This place is magical! Parking was available and not too crowded. There's a cute little playground for the kids and restrooms close by! There's a covered area behind the restrooms with tables and benches too! The parking lot is right at the trail entrance and as soon as you enter you are blown away by a tranquil waterfall! Stunning view of Burgess falls and super easy trail with only one part with stairs, maybe 30 or so stairs going straight up but if you can manage those you are golden! Not a super long hike but so worth the view! Love, love, love this little trail!

We kayaked from Cane Hollow Recreation Area a few days after some big rainfalls. The trip to the Falls took a little over an hour and we took our time. The Falls were nuts given the large rainfall, but in an amazing way. This is a must do trip if you like waterfalls! Oh, nice launching area. Only porta-potties available and they are not on flat ground. Yikes!

We love this park. If you take the lower trail you can see the lesser falls as well as the major one. They were all beautiful. The lower trail is harder with lots of roots that you have to be careful of and a large flight of stairs. There is an upper path that is mostly flat and much easier to traverse that leads to the main fall. From the main fall lookout there is also a path that goes down so you can look out from the top of the fall. My young adult sons loved that part. Also a ton of stairs on that path.

We walked the trail around 10am and the majority of it was all shady which made it very nice. The hardest part of the trail is if you decide to walk down from the view point to see the water up close. There are quite a few steps that are very steep! Beautiful hike and I loved the waterfalls!

Was a nice little day hike! It took about 1.5 hours total with stopping at the lookouts. We thought it was going to be more strenuous than it was. Not a lot of hiking but some. Mostly walking paths through the beautiful forests. There are two waterfalls on the hike! Would go here often if it was closer to home

My pups and I really loved this park. The trails were easy to walk through. I have two small dogs and they did fine. It wasn’t busy at all and everything was beautiful. The falls were big and worth the walk. It’s so wooded, shaded and peaceful. It’s also close by to another state park that also has a pretty big waterfall. This was also dog friendly. I would suggest to anyone who wants to see some nature while visiting the city.

Spectacular views, well marked path and a gorgeous fall day to adventure. We went early and arrived before others so it was more peaceful but it is a highly trafficked area. The bathrooms were clean and there were picnic tables and grills both in the open and under a pavilion. It was a lovely short hike with amazing views! The park had railings and steps and garbage bins along the hiking trail. Dog friendly too.

I had not looked this lake up before visiting, such a wonderful suprise. That waterfall that's hidden in that lake is amazing. It was about an hour kayak trip from Cane Hollow (lots of parking there) Very nice lake, lots of wildlife and the water was perfect for swimming.

First off. No matter how many pictures you take, the sights don't touch the quality of the picture. It's breath taking. Absolutely gorgeous. The hike itself. It's steep and strenuous, it makes a little easier since there's steps which doesn't make it seem as bad, (good cardio) but if you're a plus lady like myself with poor lung function, I advise you take it easy and slow, don't rush yourself. The end is so worth it and it's rewarding knowing you did it!!! We all had a blast, it was great fun. You'll enjoy it. We took our dog too and she had a blast!

Fantastic scenic place. Park area at top of falls offers a nice view. The bottom is accessible by kayaking about two miles and then hiking the final stretch (assuming the water level is down as was when we visited. Visiting the base is amazing. Scenic waterways w stellar views. We saw a bald eagle on the water while kayaking. When the water is low you’ll need to walk in sometimes rocky, muddy, and hilly areas. You’ll be forced to cross the water at times and climb over some larger rocks. Do it. It’s amazing.

Super cool hike to above the falls! If you like living on the edge, this is the place for you! You can walk out to the edge of the falls where there is rock and see it from the tippy top! Don't fall in though it's 135 ft down the falls. Pretty cool the history of the falls powering a mill to power the town back in the day.

Beautiful area! The trail was not at all crowded on a Thursday even tho the parking lot had quite a few vehicles. Happy to check this state park off my list! We really enjoyed the walk to view the falls. Beautiful scenery every where we looked!

Absolutely beautiful hike. You get to see falls in many different areas which is incredible and there’s a designated viewing area for each. The whole walk you’re surrounded by trees which this time of year (April) were pretty much entirely green. A few trees contained flowers and were in full bloom.

Beautiful waterfall and easy hiking trail. Dogs on leashes are allowed. There is water access at the cascade near the parking lot and I think the only way to swim at the bottom of the actual fall is via kayak or canoe.

Beautiful park with a nice and mostly easy to moderate hike. Walk right up from the parking lot to enjoy the cascading water immediately or take the journey down the easy to moderate path to the large falls. From there, you can view from the top or take the moderately difficult journey to the bottom of the falls. Worth the drive from any distance!

Such a wonderful park. The trail to the top of the overlook was moderate, but mainly due to the amount of stairs and spacing between each step. There is an access road that you can walk down to make it easier, but you will still have some stairs to navigate.

Nice moderate hike with beautiful falls at the end. It took us about 20 min to slowly enjoy the route. Multiple falls along the way to the main one. Restrooms are nice, dog friendly, picnic places, dog friendly.

Fun little hike and absolutely beautiful! It's dog-friendly and parts of the hike can get a little narrow with all the trees and large roots. Because of the sections that can be slightly narrow, please please do not bring dogs that are not friendly toward other dogs. Ours was almost attacked by a larger dog that the owner couldn't handle and had slipped away from her. Even with that, however, I would definitely visit again.

Updated to add more pics and say that it is still incredible being in this park!! The park is beautiful and the falls are incredible!! We took our fur babies and did the hike to the Overlook, the entire trail was amazing!!!

Oh my goodness, this place was absolutely gorgeous! Several waterfalls throughout the hike and the last one is breathtaking. The hike was very nice, however, if needed, there is an easier way to access the waterfall by taking a road.

The 3/4 mile walk to the Big Falls was worth it. I walked on the gravel trail. It only had 2 moderate hills to walk up and had benches at the top of the hills if you needed to rest. 1.5 mile round trip.

One of the most beautiful waterfalls to hike to. The hike is about 1.5 miles roundtrip. Not a hard hike to do and well worth it. Multiple cascade waterfalls to view along the way. Burgess falls at the end is such a stunning waterfall to view from a platform and can walk down to the top of the falls afterwards. I recommend seeing this beautiful piece of nature.

Amazing atmosphere and beer! It is always a treat to travel almost two hours to this brewery. I can't say I'd travel far for many but this is on the list. If you are traveling through the area make sure you stop. When you get about 15 minutes away make sure you drive slow to take in where you are, Amazing scenery! Once you enter the brewery everyone is super friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. Super cool bar area, small but cozy! Can't go wrong with any of their beer. Once you got your beer just relax in there super awesome outdoor area where you can play games, build a fire, and pet the brewery dog Claus Sergio.

Amazing - we were lucky enough to go on the tour with both Don and Dave (brothers, owners founders). They were so friendly and informative and made you feel like a part of the family. As for the brewery: amazing unfiltered beer with a depth of complexity unlike almost anywhere else and the atmosphere of the beer garden is unlike anywhere I've been to in the US. It was more than worth the trip from Knoxville and we'll be doing it again!

We stop here every time we pass through the area. Pet friendly outdoor area allows the furry family members to get in on the action as long as they aren’t behaving like the drunken cousins trying to liven up the party. Friendly welcoming staff and great beer keeps us stopping in when the opportunity presents itself.

Great beer, best beer garden in the greater Nashville area. (Sorry Pharmacy, I'm talking beer garden here, not hamburger garden). Always worth the trip. Reminds me a lot of the great small breweries located in the middle part of Vermont.

Recently sanpled a Calfkiller pint at the Outback in Cookeville. When I learned it was a microbrewery I would be able to visit, I made a plan to stop by when I had to travel to Sparta, TN. At the time I decided to sample a small growler of the Sergio's Ole Ale and with a straight face I can say that Sergio's Ale from the Calfkiller Brewery is currently the single best beer I have ever had. For me, it hits my tongue -- jist right, found it to be an excellent complement to steak. Nice job, can't wait to visit again soon.

This brewery is a true gem! They have a wide selection of brews that make it easy to find a selection you’ll love. We went there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, where. We were able to enjoy their beautiful beer garden and even enjoyed some great BBQ they had from a food truck there. I highly recommend you stop by and visit this brewery in Sparta!

We're on a trip to Cookeville TN for the week. As usual we like to check out local breweries in the area. Sort of located in the middle of nowhere, weren't even sure that GPS brought us to the right location. We loved this place, it's in the top top five breweries we've visited. Great choice beers, they do rotate. The prices are amazing, $4 pints!

What a unique little brewery. I wasn't so sure driving out here but I am greatly pleased with this spot. Limited beer list but available for tasters, pints and growlers. Cool vibe to this spot. They also had a food truck. Good music playing when we were there. Definitely a spot to try.

Great place to hang out and drink a great beer. Comfortable place to sit and visit with other like people. Love the "beer garden". Although the beer is very good, they don't have a large selection to choose from and I do like a good NEIPA once in a while and they shy away from hoppy beers, I guess.

This place was very cool! The staff were extremely nice and friendly! Any and all questions I had were answered. Pro's and Con's. Pro's- The staff were very friendly and polite. The brewery was dog friendly. Had water bowls out for our four-legged friends. Food trucks were on the scene. There is plenty of merchandise and a variety of cool items for sale. Yes, they have stickers for sale! There is plenty of seating outside along with fire pits. Various beers were on hand, and all were good. Con's- NONE I would highly recommend stopping by Calfkiller Brewery for a visit!

WOW! What a hidden gem. This was the best brewery we have been to and the locals were all so welcoming. The lovely bartender and host went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time. We will be back! OH and the beer was GREAT!

Great beer - I am not even a beer drinker and I really liked the beer! Totally delicious - Awesome spot too, nice vibe and cool environment. Great spot for dogs too! My husband loves beer and he was so impressed by the beer and everything about the brewery. New go to spot!

Great little spot to enjoy some local Sparta brewed beer. They are only open til 4 pm central most nights so be aware that this is a lunch time spot. Last call is at 3:45. they have lots seasonal and small batch beers to sample and try. The bartenders were very friendly and had great recommendations for the beers. Tons of merch and a beautiful Biergarten to relax in.

We were created by Rick. He is a very knowledgeable historian. He gave a full detail on the history of the Rock House and answered all our questions (which were many). Rick also gave us directions to another water fall that was close, Lost Creek. This historical gem is worth stopping to check out.

Does not look like much from the outside, but it's loaded with history. I definitely learned a few new things. Thanks to the man taking care of the site, he's a wealth of information.

The Sparta Rock House State Historic Site is a stone building near Sparta, Tennessee, United States, that once served as a rest stop and tollhouse. Built in the late 1830s, the Rock House catered to traffic along an important wagon road between Knoxville and Nashville, offering badly needed lodging and supplies to travellers who had just crossed the rugged Cumberland Plateau. The Rock House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 for its architecture and its historical role as an important rest stop. The Rock House was probably built by either Samuel Denton or brothers Barlow and Madison Fiske, and initially operated by the latter two. Early guests at the Rock House included presidents Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk, and Governor Sam Houston. It was home to a tollhouse and supply store until at least the 1850s, and was used as a school at various times between 1880 and 1921. Very cool local history spot and the locals have a great deal of information. I recommend stopping by and checking it out. This can be somewhat easy to miss if you're not paying attention to the road signs. There is a guided tour for the house. The man there was extremely knowledgeable and helpful while I visited there. There is no cost to have the tour. They do ask for donations to help for the cost of their liability insurance and electricity, however they do not put any pressure on you whether or not you donate. Unfortunately I did not have much cash on me but I did donate. I think it best if everyone donated $5 or $10 though. It's a small part of Americana history that would be an absolute shame to lose. If you're traveling through, don't be afraid to stop by. It'll be worth it

The history and preservation of details are amazing at the Rock House. Rick, the site historian, was very helpful, informed, and friendly on the Rock House and the State. We will continue to visit, finding more information and a deep history of this amazing part of TN. Also, Rick, thank you for the directions to some hidden gems here in TN. We enjoyed!! Please also consider dropping them a few bills in the jar as it's supported locally.

Beautiful setting, very tasty wine! We did the 3-wine tasting, all were agreeable, decided on the Sammygria. We were helped by Kim, who was friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed our bottle on the beautiful space behind the main building. Very scenic. Well worth a try. Enjoy!

This was great. Owners were lovely people. The wine was good too. We went home with a couple of bottles, some jam, and a wine glass. Worth the stop in our opinion. They also had a rescue Great Dane.

Fun winery in the heart of Middle TN (on the Upper Cumberland Wine Trail) A little scared of the "pet" greeting us at the door . But Bo was a sweetheart. The vineyard was the perfect place to stop on our drive to Nashville. The owner was welcoming and knowledgeable. The wines were all very good and the pomegranate cider was the best cider I’ve had. The property has nice outdoor seating with great views.

We had a wonderful time at Northfield! The view from the pavilion is amazing and their wine is very good. They also have a very warm and welcoming staff who clearly take pride in their family heritage. The wine is much better than other places that are more hyped like Arrington Vineyards. I would recommend checking this place out.

Great Place fantastic store and wine tasting hidden gem in the country. They even have concerts there. Craft beer also.

The trail here is absolutely wonderful. If you want to make it out to Virgin Falls, make sure you leave early as it is a 10 mile round trip hike. My husband and I attempted the hike to Virgin Falls in '21, and I just couldn't make it. We tried again yesterday, and met many friendly folks with insight about the hike or amazing stories to share. We were grateful for all of them! My husband and I are in our 60s, so probably a little more challenging for us, but we endured, took in all the beauty along the way, and finally reached the Virgin Falls. We took a little time there to regroup, relax, watch and listen to the falls, rehydrate, and revel in our accomplishment. Then it was time for the return trek back to the trailhead. To me, this trail is every bit of a "strenuous" trail, with the roots, boulders, and continuous ups and downs being the norm. A level straightaway without roots and boulders is definitely the exception, but if you've got the physical capability and endurance to take this hike, it will probably be one of the most memorable hikes you've ever taken, and you will be amazed by all the beauty! Pat yourself on the back when you've completed this hike, 'cause you've earned it!

We camped at Martha's pretty point. Hiked to virgin falls , it was good hike, there is a beautiful overllok near to Martha's point and river streams are nearby if you want to take a dip. Loved the experience

Do not follow the GPS to falls, it will take you no where. Navigate to Virgin Falls trailhead parking. Amazing waterfalls at the end of a beautiful 4mile hike. 4~5 hour round trip just to the falls, there are some overlooks and small falls on the way if you want to take deviations. Was less crowded when we visited during Memorial Day weekend. Few miles of unpaved roads till you reach to the trail entrance. Lot of parking availability and there is a park officer during day hours with maps and informations. Look for weather conditions before coming. Back lot of water. Slightly long trail with downhill and uphill trails. Consider camping at the park to enjoy nature.

This was our favorite hike. I can't say enough good about this park! we did an 11 mile hike on Saturday it was gorgeous.. 😍

This trail is beautiful and very enjoyable for both day hiking and backpacking. My wife and I went down this trail on a Sunday morning. There were plenty of people on the trail, but it wasn't crowded. We took our dogs, who were on leash the entire time. There were areas on the trail were we had to be careful with the dogs on leashes because it was a bit rough, but with a little care it was easily navigated.

Absolutely stunning place. The waterfalls are breathtaking. Worth backpacking in to camp for a night or two. Make sure you get a permit online. Please camp in designated sites and pack ALL of your trash out. ... Also, people... know how to poop in the woods. We don't want to see your toilet paper scattered along the trail.

Hiked Lost Cave Trail to the upper parking lot... about 9 miles. Quite strenuous. Water flow was excellent. Good display of spring wildflowers. Biting bugs were bad on upper end of trail 😮 Poison ivy has arrived 😐

Very tough coming back!! Pretty easy on the way there...almost to Virgin Falls there is a sign ..to the left it says .5 to virgin..on the right.. .8 to virgin..whatever way you take its a loop..do the loop or you will miss a waterfall..i went to sheeps cave falls and thought it was virgin falls..i almost went back the way i came and i would have missed virgin falls. Absolutely gorgeous..ten miles total..4 hours 22 min..stopping for pics and going to lookout ..i went off trail to get more pics but not far off. Things get slippery and steep off trail! ..do the lookout..i enjoyed the trail to the lookout more than the actual lookout..I'll definitely do it again. It was a spectacular day! I also think I broke my toe i was wearing Chacos stubbed on a rock..I've hiked almost 100 percent of my hikes in chacos ..lots of them..and next time ill wear keens with the rubber toe guard..I could not imagine doing this trail in the dead of summer even with all the water sources!! I Have not hiked a trail similar to this since last summer and honestly the way back was tough..lol. I'm 44. Long lazy winter..maybe in a couple months I'll do this hike again and say it wasn't as bad getting back

This place wasn’t far from where I stayed in Crossville and the view here rivals anything you’ll find in and around the “big cities.” This is a place where one can relax, pray and find the inspiration to create art. The folks are helpful and as kind as the day is long. This place is a hidden gem. Absolutely gorgeous.

Apparently it was a place to go for the young ones too neck.😀 I was also born in Tennessee, but my daughter had never seen the State, her 18th birthday We flew from Florida to Tennessee, She fell In love with BeautifulTennessee.

This place is underrated. Each sunset is different and hauntingly beautiful! I fall in love with the view over and over again.
