Very, very interesting and eye opening experience for us at the Apartheid Museum. We went there as part of a private tour and only allotted two hours. So, unfortunately we only made it until 1970 before having to depart. We recommend four hours to see everything included. We were a group of two visiting on a weekday so there was no lines, not very busy and no need to buy tickets in advance. We really enjoyed our time here and would recommend visiting when you travel to Johannesburg.

Such an incredible museum. The layout is beautiful. The beginning of the tour helps you know how to pace your visit based on the time you have. So many different mediums, helping teach or illustrate different parts of the history. Cool gift shop!

One of THE BEST museums you’ll find. So wrong experience. Very moving. Extremely well done. Even if you o may have ½ an hour, it’s so worth the 150 Rand per person. You could spend hours and hours there but it’s worth even a short and speedy trip. Just deploy your speed-reading skills - you’ll need it.

We absolutely loved our experience. We arrived early and took our time. Although I'd recommend it for older kids. My 16 year old wanted to spend all morning here, however my 14 and 10year old soon became hungry and tired. The museum is brilliantly set up with up-to-date information. Not much in way of food but conveniently located near the casino which had restaurants as well fast food places nearby..100%recommended as a day out in JHB.

Must go to the Apartheid Museum! A wealth of history, so powerful and well presented. Tour guide is recommended. There are a few details you might miss otherwise. And the museum is very large, so the guide helps you move along a bit quicker without missing anything.

This is one of the best organised and thoughtfully designed historical museums I've visited in a while. When you enter the museum, you are immediately challenged to empathise with people who lived under Apartheid rule. It compares favourably to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. Although we had two hours, we could easily have used another hour. If you read English, you do not need a guide. NOTE: no photos can be taken once you enter.

The museum overall was an okay experience, I've seen better and have been treated better. The staff in the Cafe on the other hand were another story. Disgusting, rude and malicious! The specific person has been identified in the photos attached. I explained to her that I disliked the sauce they put on my burger and she got IRRATE IMMEDIATELY! She slammed the food carton top down on my hands while I was showing her what I was speaking about and then snatched the carton from me. These photos are the aftermath, she thinks it's funny and smirks about her childish behavior. Just UGLY...

A must visit in Johannesburg! A very impressive and stunning experience to see those precious pictures and footage of history. After this visit you may have a more comprehensive understanding of the complexities of S.A. Unfortunately it’s not allow to take photos inside the museum.

Museum is very well done and artistic too. Great transition though history in South Africa. I did this on a day Joburg tour, 2 hours is sufficient to see everything and read. Goes well with visiting Soweto too, the township that is a key example of segregation, separation laws, and racism. Temporary exhibits on Mandela and Tutu are wonderful right now. No pictures to be taken inside. Right next to Gold Reef in case you also want to visit a casino and amusement park. Note, it is open 5 days a week now, so check the schedule.

If you're in the area, this should be a place to take in some historical truths. When walking through, not only can you recount the historical context of Apartheid, but one should be able to see its affects on natives of SA then and even now. Only then are we able to understand how truly devastating the systems of Apartheid IS. It's rather insightful and warrants actionable atonement. This is not meant for just another walk through another museum.

Amazing Museum that gives a very full and in depth view of Johannesburg and South Africa and about the struggle heros that were involved in the anti apartheid movement. Budget 2-4 hours for this experience. Always take clients here when they visiting from other countries to give them context of our country.

This museum is going to stir up something deep inside you. You are given either a ‘White’ or ‘Non-white’ card at the entrance which follow separate paths in the first section giving you a very clear insight into how life for South Africans have shaped up over the years. The museum has plenty of excerpts, short movies, audio clips and a lot of info. You should definitely account for 3+ hours to really do justice to this museum. Tickets are priced at 150 Rands as of 2023 and there’s plenty of parking available.

It’s a most see in Jobourg - make sure you dedicate at least 3-4 hours. At 5 they turn off the lights and make you find your way through the museum in the dark 😂 Definitely unique way to rush people out.

As a grown man. I cried. The practice was so despicable that if you have only a degree of humanity, you will cry. I learned that apartheid was so inhuman that I couldn't understand how the world allowed it to go on for so long. The experience is something that is now fully on my soul. How the South African blacks and colored tolerated it for so long is still a mystery to me. If you come to South Africa, you must go right away so you can enjoy the rest of your trip.

Without a doubt a fantastic place to come. I don't know anywhere else in Africa to go for a theme park that comes close to this. I do suspect the staff of keep rides closed for a while for people not to have continuous rides. If you can come on a slow day it is very enjoyable. Especially if enjoy getting a rush from the free falling feeling. There are rides for the whole family and restaurants all over. Even carnival games some of which are very unlikely to win anything. Some are easy wins

Still nice place to see and feel the vibe of humans relaxing. The biggest problem us waiting to get into rides. Could barely manage a few during the day. Advice to all find a day it is not so busy.

Cleverly out together, this disused open shaft mine cum now theme park caters well for children and those who are children at heart for all things playful. It's definitely not for the faint hearted and most of the rides are for the taller (above 1.5m I think) kids. There is also a kids section for the toddlers and infants.

I took my niece on Friday, 8 April 2022, her first time. It was enjoyable. It wasn't too busy. We paid R250 pp, that was a bit steep to be honest. She's 9yrs old, that was a bit much. We had tons of fun and made use of most of the rides. The lady at the ticketing place selling tickets for the Gold pour and the mine tour is a rude and miserable individual, certainly not the kind to be at a theme park and dealing with patrons. The gentleman at the Gold pour exhibition directed us to her to purchase our tickets. He was the most polite, friendliest people, along with the lady who did our tour of the mine. Those two deserve an accolade, they made our experience exceptional.

My family and I were booked in at the theme park hotel. Staff were friendly. The hotel room was fine. As for the swimming pool water, well that was green so my husband and kids could not swim in it. My kids were thrilled to go on rides, watch 4D videos etc. However the queues are ridiculously long. Sadly there is no exception for those staying inside the theme park. It would be nice if they could give hotel residents access to the rides an hour before opening to the public. There should be a limitation on the amount of people allowed access daily into the theme park so that everyone gets to make use of the rides instead of standing tirelessly (during a heatwave) in queues to get on. People are allowed in from around 9am/9:30am but the gates to the rides aren't open so you have to start queuing already which I find really annoying. To top it off they close the gates to rides from around 4pm when the theme park closes @ 5pm. I do understand that this is within the peak season however I seriously hope management does something about this.

I have very fond memories of coming here in my childhood, so I was rather excited to visit as an adult ( I'm still short, but tall enough for the rides now). Besides the historical attractions for which is famed, recent upgrades and additions have been made turning out into a proper theme park. We went on a weekday to avoid the crowd, it was still pretty busy with a few school day trips taking place and bus loads of tourists. The rides provide enormous fun for ppl of all ages. You are well catered for regarding food, as there are kiosks and restaurants dotted about. For those with no interest in the park, there is also a hotel and casino.

You have to buy your tickets online, which, for me, makes things more convenient. There are the friendliest guys on stilts, painted gold, wearing mining type outfits, helping and directing people to where they must go, the line at the kiosk to get the tickets wasn't long and the staff are very friendly and efficient so it moves quickly. I got in free because it was my birthday and you get a separate line for that ticket which also moved fast.... had the best day, great food available all over, the lines for the adult rides were a bit insane but I didn't go for that, walked around, explored the "city" the fun train was cool with the tunnel that turns, kinda makes it feel like the train is tipping, my son (6) had a blast on the kids rides and before we knew it the day was over.... I guess time does fly when you're having fun!

We had an absolute blast!! The Online Ticket booking is convenient and fast and definitely helps the queues at the entrance going very fast and efficient. The only downside of our visit was definitely the extremely long lines at the rides, we had to wait 40 minutes to an hour for the rides but I do take in consideration that it was the first day of the school holidays. It was very crowded. It's also very frustrating when the boards cleary states "no place keeping" and crowds of people move past you to their friends infront of you making you wait even longer. I do suggest that the staff be more strict about this. Other than that, all the rides worked! The staff from the gates to the operators at the rides were very friendly. The bathrooms are very clean which is very impressive if you take in account the amount of people there during the day so big thumbs up on that! Huge variety of restaurants and places to buy cool drinks and snacks during the day. It's a nice outing for friends and for the whole family with the rides and games for the kids as well. Overall nice experience!

Gold Reef City is the most unique amusement park in Africa, but that is solely based on my opinion. I would recommend anyone to go there because there is something for everyone and the whole family can enjoy these events! FYI - When it's your birthday, you go in for free!

Gold reef city theme park is such an amazing place to be . Especially to get that adrelline running. The place is fun and has that energetic vibe. There is rides to take your breath away... like legit for real and then you can get those calming kid friendly ride. This place is an awesome place to be Especially if u planning a family holiday. There are awesome restaurants there to fill u up before your next ride. The place has beautiful scenery Especially on the helicopter ride and the ferries wheel 🎡 .The staff there is super friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back there again and try the rest of rides I have not been on.

We had the absolute best time spending the day here. Remember to buy the tickets online and get there early and even when you do this, you will have to queue for wristbands to enter the theme park. I suggest doing the most popular rides early to avoid crazy long queues. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of rides available. Lots of places to eat. Clean bathrooms. Even though the tickets are pricey, it is value for money. My kids had a blast and I felt young again.

Gold Reef City has always been a popular theme park. The roller coaster rides provide your body with an adrenaline rush, making you feel alive. A scream of joy, fear, and exhilaration! The park is very clean and well maintained, and there are plenty of food stalls throughout the park for you to choose from! I would not recommend visiting the park during the holidays because there are far too many people, especially during the December holidays, and you end up standing in line for hours and only being able to ride a few of the rides! Try to go on a Thursday or Friday when it is a little quieter. Then you can truly enjoy the exciting rides! Remember to book online and to wear comfortable shoes. R250pp

Had a lot of fun at the Theme Park. Did the guided tour into the mine shaft which was very educational. Went on a few rides, was there on a Sunday so the queues were not too long. Best part was the anaconda, really nice roller-coaster but was over to quick :)

Amazing, thrilling, the best experience I've ever had thus far at a theme park. There is a ride for everyone. It is such a big beautiful place. Toilets are clean, their staff is friendly, they are all well trained and informative. I'd definitely go back, there is so much to explore.

Had so much fun! Went for a helicopter ride, then to the amusement park. We had no idea that tickets were not sold on the premises and had to buy tickets online. There are more than enough food options and souvenir shops. Definitely buy tickets in advance.

I was 5 years last at Golden reef city theme park that time I fined it to be overpriced. But I was in press that there prices was affordable and you pay ones for all rides. Restaurants was also affordable. Rides are well maintained. I really enjoyed the whole day. Staff are friendly and helpful.

SUPER FUN! There are dozens of rides. You do wait in long lines but they move quickly as the ride fills up. There is a science park which I really enjoyed. There are museums and ancient buildings. There is so much to explore and it is impossible to go through everything in one day. I loved it and I will be back to see the rest. The rides are crazy. With huge variety. They also have snakes in confinement before you ride the Anaconda. Everything in this place is awesome. Clean. Well maintained. There are afew food stalls with seating available. Beautiful ponds with ducks. I just love this place. I highly recommend you go here.

Decided to have an adults day out at the theme park. I haven't been for over 10 years, and I was pleasantly surprised by how the park still runs. The park is incredibly clean (including the toilets), the rides are fun, there are so many places to eat. The entry fee is a bit steep, but if you intend on going on all the rides then it's worth it. The food places are average priced. The only issue was the wait for the rides and for food, but we also visited on a public holiday so it was understandably busy. All in all it was a great day out. Kids love it, but expect to fork out a lot of money for the day, so budget and save wisely beforehand.

Fun for Everyone at Gold Reef City! This was my first time visiting Gold Reef City as a dad with my kids. It was a fantastic experience for everyone! The rides in the kid's area were clean, well-maintained, and perfect for little ones. The kids had a blast. Another big plus is the new online ticketing system. It's convenient and saves time waiting in line. However, I did notice a potential issue with redeeming tickets if someone in your group can't make it. To avoid this hassle, I recommend planning carefully and buying tickets for the exact number of people attending. If you're unsure, consider getting smaller group tickets. That way, if someone has to miss out, you can redeem the ticket on another visit. In short, Gold Reef City is a great place for a family day out. The rides, cleanliness, and online ticketing system all impressed me. Just be mindful of the ticket redemption policy when planning your trip. Oh, and no food or drinks can be “imported”.

Had a great time! We went through on the Friday and slept over in the theme park hotel and then spent the Saturday as well. We went after the peak season so it was nice and quiet with no waiting lines which was nice for the children. All the staff that we spoke to were very friendly and accommodating. The place was so clean and well looked after. When sleeping over you get access to the park. I would suggest price wise to rather spend a night there and get access to the park for 2 days. Would definitely visit again.

Historical apartheid black male prison in the hills of hillbrow turned tourist attraction site. It's sites are easily accessible with well maintained infrastructure for the general public including the disabled. It's main attractions are the style of architecture including the great African stairs and concrete slabs around the precinct A pick up location for citysightseeing for tourists and travel enthusiasts

The history we learn is ok, but has a different intake when you actually see the places. Well if you really listen it may actually send chills down your spine that some people actually experienced such in the days of old. Otherwise iam glad I got to learn about South African history.

The area is considered to be unsafe. Not crowded at all so you have time to stroll at your own pace., well the place depict the prisoners life in and out of the African history. maintenance could have been better, easy to navigate across various sections. Highlight - the isolation cells, Mandela gandhi gallery, Mandela cell and the tunnel. Worth a visit if you are into history and would like to be part of it. Apart from prison of various different types and size., there is nothing that interest you more of the surroundings.

Buying tickets in advance is very helpful because less human contact. And the carport parking is also available free of charge. Make sure you arrive early because there is so much to see and so much to read. Usually on the 21st of March each year there is a human right a festival on the upper tier of the museum. Ticket at R90 for self-guided. 120 for guided tours. This is one of the best museum about South African apartheid make sure you visit it.

A very in depth 2 hour full tour narrating the unbearable conditions that political prisoners together with common criminals lived through. A short 10min video summaries what the entire Constitution Hill Precinct is about before the tour commences. The site guides are very informative & willing to explain the timelines of events for you. The art gallery has some truly thought provoking art pieces for you to interpret.

While some people have had the experience and privileges of visiting this historical site for educational purposes I have been blessed to witness this venue while been graced with musical talents like no other. “In The City” presents FKJ was truly a experience worth every penny.

Well organized and informative museum. Visit prison wards and learn about how prisoners were abused before visiting the constitutional court which has used the bricks of the prison in its decoration - turning walls of oppression in to pillars of justice! Totally worth a visit. Especially for foreigners. It helps you put a lot of things into context by learning a little more about South Africa and its dark past. It also helps you understand and appreciate the country and its people, especially now when it's under majority rule. There are some things that are off about what's exhibited here especially given what we know today about some of the people celebrated here like Gandhi. The guided tour starts with a visit to the old prison. The place will break you. However, you will be lifted back up and have hope once you take a look at the Constitution Court chambers. The guides are very knowledgeable and make the tour very informative and reflective - of ourselves as humankind and how we treat one another.

If You stay in Gauteng and have never been to Constitution Hill you are missing out. It's history and so much more, with skilled guides I suggest you take the full 2 hour tour for just R150. A good outcome Ng for the family, one that will make you think.

I was pleasantly delighted by attending an event here. While the signage to find the parking was missing and at night proves to be a challenge getting into the precinct, the security where helpful and the event area was great, sheltered from the cold winter wind. The toilets cleaned and functional and I would definitely attend another event there.

The former prison complex houses a museum about its past and the central part is home to the South African costitutional court. It is a very interesting area and worth a visit. In the building of the constitutional courts were some art exhibits when I visited. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

The precinct consists of the Mandela Gandi prison museum. A place of horror restored to show how appallingly the Black people were treated. Just next door is the Constitution Court. Full of information and amazing art. It's definitely a place to see.

I am from Asia, so I know very little about the history of South Africa, but I learned about Nelson Mandela when I was young. Learning about his life in the real place he spent time in is quite exciting for me This place is basically a fort and old prison. You learn about how cruel to prisoners is and so discrimination among white, Indian, colored, and black. I think spending time here 45 mins is ok. I was on tour for 1.45hrs I think it's too much info to digest, personal opinion.

Worth visiting this location for its horror history. Not many places to sit while you absorb the information provided. A water fountain will be good for hot days.

An unforgettable visit to a place with so much heavy energy of power, injustice and oppression. They say there are ghosts that live in that prison. I would say I've felt their presence learning about the history of what was happening in this place! We cannot eradicate the past... We can only learn & let go, to be able to move forward.

I am so glad this is a guided tour, so you can learn the in depth history of the South Africa prison where so many of our leaders and regular people were kept in inhumane conditions. Just to think this prison didn't close until 1983 is even crazier. There is also a tour of the court where the 11 justices oversee cases today. This is a must when you visit Johannesburg.

This is a great place to take kids to do science based activities. There are activities for different ages.. from toddlers up to 13 year olds. The staff at the Play Africa is very actively involved and helpful.

Took a break away with the kids this weekend and took a chance on the zoo as the kids asked for it. Really pleasantly surprised, organized, safe and very clean. Don't let the entry fee fool you it's worth every cent. You can spend the whole day and not see everything there is to see. Food options are great but take a walk around to find the right spot for you. Really recommend it for a family outing to get into the sun and have fun.

A very big zoo, you walk for hours enjoying the sight of various animals. The entrance queue gets very long during school holidays. You are allowed to bring your own food but there are food stalls around the park. My young cousins really had a great day exploring the wildlife. I'm planning on bringing my young siblings too.

Nice zoo. It's a bit spread out, with few exhibits, but the ones they have are nice. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, tiger, black rhino, crocodiles, cougars, owls, elephants, hippo, antelopes, wild dogs, giraffes. They need to have a better map or signage, as we got a little lost. It needs some maintenance. I hope they get thousands of visitors and can make it all it can be. I recommend you visit if you have about 2.5 hours to spare some day. It was quiet on the weekday afternoon we went.

Great day spent at the zoo with the family. Kids had a fantastic time. Grounds were clean and animals seem well looked after. Some enclosures were empty which was a bit disappointing but overall we had a great day. All food vendors were open so that was great. Lots of walking but worth it.

This was a wonderful family day adventure. We had a lot of fun. Was disappointed about the Aquarium that was closed already when we got there too late. We will go there first next time. The paddle boats were out of service, and some of the push carts for children need to be serviced, but we had a great time and will definitely go again

A wonderful experience for adults and children. The zoo has been renovated over the years and is in much better condition than I remember it from many years ago. I highly recommend renting a golf cart which costs R200/hour...an hour is NOT enough! Go early to avoid a lengthywait. There were unfortunately no gorillas which I looked forward to seeing. All the other animals seemed in healthy condition and clean environments. Great day indeed!

A fun filled day. It was honestly so much fun. The zoo is so huge, bring comfortable shoes and plenty of water (hydration is a must, especially if you'll be going in the summer). There are various ways to explore, be it renting out a golf cart, booking a tour (think safari) or walking. It is fun for the whole family, something for everyone. The entry fee and food are super affordable or you can bring your own food in. It is a very budget friendly outing that is worth your time and money. The staff is so friendly. The staff working the kiosk is welcoming and attentive. All in all, a definite must visit.

Very few animals available to see. No Gorillas, no bears but there's a bear enclosure. Aquarium is small, you won't see big fish like sharks or manta rays. Atmosphere is good for relaxing dates. Their entrance zoo photo that they take you can be purchased, I don't remember the price but Between R150-R250. Overall it's not bad, the place is clean and the enclosures are clean, just wish more animals were available to see.

I went with family on a weekday and I have to say this is one of the most spectacular zoos I have ever been too. It is 54 hectares so there's a lot of walking involved ( you can hire golf carts but you need to show your driving licence). But what a wonderful place to walk. The grounds are lovely and well kept, everything is sign posted so it is easy to get around. And all the animals we saw looked happy and content, probably because they live in large open enclosures. Everyone we met was kind and helpful and genuinely happy to see us. The only gripe was that the restaurant was shut when we visited, but there were concession stands dotted around for soft drinks and snacks so not a big problem. I would highly recommend a visit because it is fabulous.

This place was so much fun. You need to understand that you are going to a place where the animals are in their enclosures so there isn't a show for you to see but they are just chilling. Wear comfortable shoes as there is alot of walking involved. You can spend the whole day there and bring your own picnic. You can also order from the restaurant there. If seeing live animals is what you are looking for then this is the place for you.

Absolutely amazing and great value for money. The zoo is very well maintained. The animal enclosures are exceptional. The animals are in excellent condition. There is a wide variety of animals from spiders to elephants. 3 Kiosks along the paths to buy some refreshments. Safe parking. Highly recommended.

Fun place for the whole family. One can hire a golf cart to get around. The staff and most especially park manager were amazing. I can't thank them enough for their kindness after a problem we encountered. ( No problem on the park's behalf)

The zoo is kept clean, and there is a variety of animals to see except the Gorilla 🦍, he is Dead they say . saw lot of squirrels 🐿️, a hippo, rhino, tigers, a cheater, horses, birds of different kinds, etc. There are also different rides for kids. There are lots of spots for picnics. Oh how I fell in love with some trees!!! 🌳🌳 We will definitely visit again.

Get the golf cart, and if you think you'll just use it for an hour, you won't... get it for 2. You'll need it unless you are a really great walker. The animals appear very well cared for - given they are in captivity. The fencing around the enclosures stops you from getting great pics, but it's worth seeing if you can't go on a safari. Inexpensive tickets make it a plus.

Although a bit run down with age the zoo is still a lovely outing for the family. The small enclosures make it easy for the children to spot the animals and view them up close. Amenities like toilets could do with a bit of a fix. The Animals of the Amazon had some interesting creatures.

Very good zoo. There is a vehicle to show around the zoo. A lot of people came on the weekend. Almost snacks shops get closed around 4 pm. Restaurants, coffee shops are inside

Fantastic place. I'm not in agreement with zoos but the staff really do as much as possible to keep the animals feeling and looking good. Great for kids, elderly and young couples as well as older

There's a special now on for March.R20.00and if you are born in March it's free .This is to celebrate the 120 years the zoo is operating. It was a good experience.Very clean and well maintained.Its huge therefore lots of walking unless you hire the go carts.They are R200.for an hour.That was fun for a while but you don't get to see everything while driving around.There are beautiful picnic areas and lots of shade by big trees.Clean tables and benches.Bins everywhere,that are cleaned there's a lot of food stalls.Slush and ice cream 🍨🍦 was so good before, during and after LOLZ There are fewer although personally I feel sorry for them, especially the primates.The giraffe and elephants were amazing to look at. Overall I enjoyed the day and had a great Picnic in a very scenic, peaceful and controversial place I visited.

Was a fun experience. Haven't been in years. Que to get in was a little crazy. But other than that, it was a great day. Exhibits need some TLC, but the animals we saw all appeared to be in good health.

The Zoo is very big, My family opted to walk instead of hiring the Cart or taking the guide bus. We walked for 2 hours, we enjoyed every bit of it. Lots to see and appreciate. I look forward to visiting again.

Amazing experience for us to hold the twins 3rd bithday. Work in progress in some areas to improve areas. The enclosures are in very good condition and the animals as well. We saw lots of babies. The options to rent transport for the little ines made life a lot easier. Play areas for the kiddies in various places helps to keep them distracted, allowing them to stay interested in the rest afterwards.

I honestly thought it was going to be packed since they have a R20 entrance fee. We were able to stroll without pushing eachother, we saw most of the animals peacefully and from where we were seated was okay. The kids enjoyed themselves too much and us the parents as well.

I loved Johannesburg zoo I went on a busy public holiday,but on a regular day it's nicer. The animals looked good. pack comfortable shoes because that place is big.

We went to see the lovely Festival of Lights with my friends. This annual event includes fun fair rides and free concerts with a varied lineup on different nights. The lights did not disappoint and the roaming entertainers kept the children enthralled. We enjoyed the jazz artists on stage. Secure parking and helpful attendants. Package deals available for groups and families and quick and easy access as we purchased our tickets online.

We were so excited and thrilled to be part of the birthday celebration of the Zoo. My family and I had an awesome day at the zoo. The kids could stop talking about the animals and the games they had. The highlight of the day was Mawhoo and Aymos' performance ✨️ 🙌🏾 . Everyone was singing along and singing, especially the kids. The zoo now needs a little bit of maintenance there and there, especially with the grass.

Great experience, the grounds are kept very clean and tidy. Animals are all in good form and the welfare has definitely improved since I last went which is great. Food stalls are delicious as well!

A very nice place to meet friends, socialize and explore. for content lovers: there’s a wide range of restaurants offering different foods and drinks, art galleries and boutique shops. Talk about positive vibes, good energy and a perfect escape. You can not come to Jozi and not visit Maboneng

The main reason I went there was to experience art, culture and shopping but on getting there, the market was closed. Enquired, and no one seems to know when it would be opened. The food vendor right in the court had a wall of art, but nothing exciting. His menu also wasn't impressive... my heart went out to him cause I am not sure how he is running it profitably. On the street itself, there were few sellers of native wears, hand-made bead bags, but nothing fancy. Lots of rooftop restaurants with some of their staff calling on you. Sure, it comes alive at night ( I would try this, and maybe my rating can change).

It's a great vibe, any day of the week. Parking is just a problem but everything is within walking distance

Loved the art in the area. I consider walking around Maboneng safe! So you don't necessarily need a guide and you can just follow the green 'M' signs. I did find a guide quite nice to learn more about the area though.

Maboneng is definitely bustling with activity! There are lots of people, so it can get crowded. Many restaurants will approach you with menus and specials. It's a great vibe for young people.

Nice,artsy area close to bars restaurants galleries, coffee shop and more. Best during the day.

Artsy busy area with nice coffee shops, music, food, and art. Did a little walking tour to check out the street art in the late morning. Really nice artists. Some parts are definitely run down and polluted, though that's how a lot of Joburg is, watch your step when walking. I was a solo female traveler and felt safe. Would be nice to see in the evening when the scene is more hopping.

This is such a wonderful place to be at. The art, restaurants & bars have a great vibe as well. The photographers are just as amazing. It's a great place to enjoy yourself at.
