This was a great learning experience for me and my family, we enjoy each and every moment of it. Thanks to the super friendly staff members of which I don't know how they do it, security guards, cashiers, tour guides and the guys at the parking lot thank you, keep up the good work.

A very informative and interesting experience. I also enjoyed the boat ride through the caves. A great place to come with family and just learn about evolution.

Took the kids to Cradle of Humankind this past weekend and we throughly enjoyed this historical place. We joined a group for a tour guide and it was very educational. There’s also a short trip on the boat where you experience the different elements. We went on a Saturday round 12 and it was not full. After the tour we bought popcorn and ice cream and also took a family photo. Kids under 6 are free.

This was an interesting place, but we went with the tour and the boat ride was kind of weird. They didn’t tell you what it is that you were doing it was just a ride. After they tell you it has to do with the elements of fire water earth. There is a lot of information about evolution after you get off the ride, but there’s not much else to it.

interesting place for grown ups as well for children. Education for all ages how it all began. The environment around the museum is as well pretty and invites you for having a trip around. I recommend this before the weekend starts to avoid to many people.

Being here, you can imagine how it was a 1000 years ago. Go for a hike on many of the farms that allow this and experience the peace and quiet, beautiful rock formations and wildlife

This place was great. The museum was the best experience ever! You can tell that the creators took time to design this place, it was simply the best. The tour guide was so amazing and the guy is super knowledgeable and I’d actually do it again.

Cradle of human kind in Maropeng... it's free guys. Take your family, go as a couple or with friends. Entrance, parking free. To see your ancestors free. You pay to get on a boat and see other parts of our history...very affordable. Honestly it's worthit. We had a great time.

If you looking at getting a real sense of where life and humanity evolved then the cradle of human kind is the place for you. The boat ride through the seasons was absolutely magical and going into the caves definitely provides you with a sense of how the Flinstones would have lived. It's an absolute must and great for the entire family, educational and fun.

This was an absolutely magical experience! They explain so much in detail! The "boat" ride was my favorite part! Lots of interactive little things to keep it interesting! I highly recommend going here if you want to learn a little more about our "ancestors" and the beings that roamed the earth before us Home-sapiens! Also had an amazing buffet lunch at the restaurant! Beyond expectations! Definitely come here!
The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is a 11595 hectare reserve located in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The reserve has three different hiking trails, and is home to a variety of wildlife including monkeys, zebras, buffalo and antelope. The entrance fee plus car fee payable at the gate via card makes it accessible to all, and there are wheelchair-friendly paths.
Absolutely amazing. Great value for money. Safe and secure. Entrance fee plus car fee payable at gate via card. 3 Different Hike options/trails. Beautiful scenery. Good for kids and beginners. After Hike we took a spectacular 66km drive in the nature reserve and saw troops of monkeys, zebras, buffalo and antelope. I recommend snacks for the car as it is a full/half day experience. There was wheelchair friendly paths however I did not review them. I was stunned to find such a hidden gem!

Excellent hiking trail and well-marked. I took the 17KM trail. I found it moderate, but some may find it hard, especially the climbs. Peaceful hike with great views. Some stretches were overgrown due to the rain, but overall the trail is well-maintained and I felt safe. I saw a jackal, which was nice. I'm definitely going back soon.

Intermediate hike, and I say that because it’s a bit rocky and steep for most of the hike so you get tired easily.
We saw a baboon on our hike and a lot of little insects.
The markings are there but not very clear and the map they provide is not really the greatest either.
We went March 2024 and they DON’T accept cash, card payment only. Entrance fee was R45pp AND R35 per car.
Come with a sun hat as the routes aren’t shaded for the most part.
Tsholo Mawhayi — Google review
I went for a hike here with some friends. The entrance fee was atound 50 per person and around 30 for vehicle access. We could not use cash when we visited. There
wildlife to be seen and there is not much here besides the hikes and a self drive around. However, it seems excellent for cycling, and there were quite a few cyclists. It is very safe. The park is beautiful, and the hiking trail is excellent. There is almost no litter at all. The hike is a good deal harder than hennops and cradlemoon, so be warned. iMy watch tells me it was an 1800m elevation ii over 11.7 km. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes hiking. FYI, there is no implacable implacable implacable iiiiiito one one 6666⁶66666or drinks here. I imagine it could get very hot here. There is very little cover during the majority of the hike so hats and sunscreen highly advised.

Beautiful, large nature reserve with day and overnight hikes and a 55 km cycling/driving route to explore the valleys and pleateau.
The highest point in Gauteng is situated in the reserve.
Sadly many of the previous facilities such as an info centre, the alternative entrance gate and picnic sites are poorly maintained and an eyesore. Make sure to take everything you need to enjoy a day out.
Joshua Weiss — Google review
Good scenic trail they offer 10km and 17km, and they have a picnic place to chill after the hike. Best advise wear proper hiking boots/good trainers with a grip the trail gets slippery especially after the rains and it's also Rocky

What a lovely place!
The 10 km or above 10 km hike routes are no joke. Not for the faint hearted. You have to be very fit to do them or you will take verrrrry long. Extra hot sunny days makes it more tough.
Other than that, it is beautiful and green. I enjoyed the 10 km alot, will do it again this year. Saw some animals in the distance. R80 entry fee, we could only pay by card
Grizelda Liebenberg — Google review
The kids and myself love this hiking spot, great place to hang out for the entire day, hike, walk, game drive, museum, play area n braai facilities buildings and signages needs attention, entrance n main office, on trial etc
Sher Singh — Google review
The 10 kilometres trail is challenging with about 400-450m elevation gain. It’s marked, but I felt like some spots also needed markings in between. There’s no shops so you have to bring your own snacks and drinks. There’s braai area available to use so you can have a nice picnic with family afterwards. They don’t sell anything so bring everything you want to eat 👊🏽. There’s guards at the main entrance, then plenty of parking inside. Overall, I am gonna go back again, it’s good.
Nonosi Nosi — Google review
Great trails 2 downsides , facilities are run down and not taken care of, it’s nasty to see the amount of toilet paper 🤢 on the trails. Create more awareness on keeping it clean.

Great hiking experience at Suikerbosrand thanks to Mr. Buthelezi who went out of his way to help us. The hike itself was beautiful, with amazing views over the Suikerbosrand valley and stunning wildlife. We hiked an overnight trail and slept in the springbok hut. There is a roofed braai area with enough seating, outside tap, hut with 3 rooms and mattresses. Also a room outside with a toilet, basin and shower. They also have a service where they take your extra luggage to the hut if needed. I just wish they had more information online about the different huts and rules.
We booked in advanced and there was some miscommunication over where we are allowed to park our vehicles. We wanted to keep one vehicle at the hut since one lady was not hiking with us the first day, but only the second, since the first day hike was a bit tuff and she is diabetic. We areanged this in advance, but when we got there, they told us that it is not allowed to keep a vehicle at the hut. When we booked, we asked for a confirmation email or reference number, but they said they don't do email. However when we got there, Mr. Buthelezi asked us where our email correspondence was. A lot of miscommunication, but luckily when we arrived Mr. Buthelezi helped us sort it out. I will post some images of the springbokhut for those interested, since there is no images of the springbok hut online.

Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is the most peaceful place that I've ever visited. It is completely silent and you do not see signs of civilisation while you're hiking. So you feel like you're far away from Johannesburg, but the city is less than an hour away.
It's only 20 minutes away from The Glen Shopping Centre in Oakdene and about 25 minutes from Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve.
If you're hiking in summer bring lots of cold water, if you can freeze it it's even better. It's hot in Suikerbosrand.
The hills are layed out on a vast landscape, walking here feels like a meditation.

The biggest herd of Eland we have ever seen. Stunning now that it is getting greener. Great cycling practice for hubby (insane inclines - but he loves it). Loses one star just because there does not seem to be any maintenance happening. Entrance especially is full of weeds and not all that appealing looking... but don't be put off, it's a lovely spot in side.
Kerry-Ann Todd — Google review
Didn't know what to expect and cyclists, hikers, serious and less determined health fanatics, this is the place to go. Ample play area for kids too. There is also a museum.
Nelmari Claassens — Google review
What a wonderful, well-kept secret. I wish the failure of provincial government was not so stark though. The place is falling to pieces with zero maintenance and the litter on the trails, in the parking lot and picnic area was very disappointing.
However, in saying this, the hikes are challenging with a few to choose from.
Paradise for cyclists as there is plenty of space for them to ride in freedom and lower risk from motorists.
The staff at the main gate were friendly. We were given an information pamphlet at the gate. While fairly informative, the pamphlet was carelessly put together, with a page missing but another one duplicated. It took us (and several other guests) a few minutes to find out where the trails start as the signage is faded and very poor. Once you find your way all is well and the trails are more than adequately marked.
I do feel that it is worth the visit, I just wish that effort was put in by those who have been trusted to do so. You have failed and are allowing a gem to decay! A little effort can change everything.
Eastgate Shopping Centre is a popular shopping mall in South Africa that offers a variety of services and amenities such as dining options, a movie theater, and grocery market. This mall is large and well-known, providing plenty of places to shop for anything you may need.
Always a fun time at East Gate. The family lives in highland road. it's just a 5-minute drive to easy gate. Yoooh. Just visit the place. Describing everything there won't do it justice.
But I can talk about the parking, ample parking space, idk how many parking levels it has but a billion cars would fit. You'll incur payment charges for parking. Although there is freeparking outside.. Ciao A onestop shopping mall. Thank me later. I didn't take very many photos.

This is a really nice centre.
There is a wide variety of different shops and restaurants to choose from.
The centre is quite easy to navigate and there are signs placed at convenient intervals to help you find your way.
There are plenty of parking spaces.
On weekends the parking fee has a flat rate of R10 irrelevant of how long you have been at the centre.
The centre does have lifts and escalators.

East Gate is a big mall with a lot of stores. It offers some of the most spectacular views of Johannesburg (from the east you can see the Johannesburg CBD in the distance).
It unfortunately does not have all the stores that you will be looking for. For example, there is no Chicken Licken nor Seattle Coffee Co. They do have KFC or Kramer's Coffee for example if you are looking for an alternative.
I like the fact that it has a Checkers Hyper with a very big Dischem, amongst others.

Great experience. One of the best welcoming Malls I've been so fa have gone this season. The mall is beautiful, with beautiful different sites that include Restaurants , Cinemas , Car parks , Shopping Centres, Beauty shops , Clothing shops with almost every cloth brand you might wanna try. The interior and exterior is safe to walk around with your accessories or with anything because the security in the mall is advanced and tight. On my first day visiting it going for shopping with my G l enjoyed every moment and the safety is guaranteed. It's one of the best malls in Joburg from my view and anybody who might want to go check it out, feel free, the Mall is safe and welcoming. It offers best restaurants within from high classes to medium and depending on what you can afford but they all sweet. I really liked the welcoming and customer service we received from Mozambique Restaurant it's the best

Beautiful big and safe💯 I left the rear window of my car open by mistake, and inside was my kids laptop and tablet. After 5 hours inside the mall I found a wonderful security guard standing next to my car to ensure that all my belongings are safe and that no one comes next to my car. I am forever grateful to him and and all the safety measures that are put in place by my favourite shopping mall😊😭

A fantastic shopping experience. We were a little bit lost and looking for a specific shop, but the information desk quickly sent us in the right direction. A huge thumbs up for the security. I parked on the top level but exited at the wrong exit. One of the security guards quickly saw that we were lost and assisted us to find our vehicle

Like the mall. But the current security guys needs to take a step back. Massive fight with them on Saturday. From the street, there are no signs to bike parking areas. As it was busy I did not want to take up a car parking with the bike. I looked for a place out of the way, away from pedestrian walk spaces to park my bike. Got back and the security that was standing 20m from me when I parked there, clamped the bike to be released after R500 fine. I refused as he could have told me that when I stopped. There are no signs that said I may not stop there. He got a couple of extra guards to come and intimidate me. All with pistols and one with what looked like an R4. After more than 30 minutes of them telling me nonsense like the bike will damage the pipes under the pavement and some other threats, they took the clamp off the front wheel.
Francois van der Merwe — Google review
I love it here. There are many shops to choose from. Parking is never a struggle. My only struggle is that the design is a bit complicated, so it’s easy to get lost. I would recommend some more directory boards or customer care stations.

Very big and complex mall, one of the very few malls in south africa where you find a lot of stores in there, clean and plenty of choices in terms of restaurants, Shopping retailers of food, clothes and appliances. However for me personally gets complicated as it's too big and it gets confusing when shopping around.

The reason I rate it a 5 is because they have indoor karting, I really enjoyed it with my partner. I'm not even a huge fan of wimpy but I kinda enjoyed the meal we ordered. They have a lot of restaurants and fashion shops to choose from, next time I'm going there I babe to buy something from sunglass hut. They got good quality glasses there

A place of prayer. This Turkish mosque took me back in time to our visit to the Blue Mosque in Turkey. The Architecture and Design always leaves me in awe.The peace and tranquility, a conversation with you and your creator. A walk through the Turkish Museum was quiet educational. Learn about the historical facts of the tourist attractions back in Turkey. Besides praying there are few sit in Turkish restaurants. Beautiful gem tucked away in Midrand Johannesburg.

Nizamiye Masjid, often called the Nizamiye Mosque, is a mosque situated in the city of Midrand, City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, South Africa. It is often stated to be the biggest mosque in the Southern Hemisphere, occupying less than two-thirds of a hectare in a 10 hectares of land. The plans for the mosque were originally designed in Turkey, but a South African architect adapted the design to South African building standards. Construction began in October 2009 and was completed in 2012.

A little museum in the complex as well.
A place of meeting new friends, indulging in great authentic Turkish cuisine. A great variety of food is now available.
I am a little disappointed that the sweet shop is so small and does not have as much variety as before.

Very beautiful! A nice variant of restaurants inside like Greek, Asian, Indian, African and so on. So there's something for everyone. The casino itself looks very clean and nice. Sadly we didn't get to play. We wanted a day card to play since we only stopped by. The machine told us to get them at the cashier but after asking we could only sign up but not get a day card to play. Was a bit sad but once you're signed up I think it will be a lot of fun there. Just wasn't worth it for us for the short visit.

Meh, it's okay. Cinema hasn't got anything exciting. Of all the restaurants I'd only recommend Lily Asian, the salmon sushi was the best I've ever had. There's nothing really to do here. Even the magic company doesn't offer much, and the machines are giving in.

I took my family here to eat on our last night in South Africa. We ate at Spurs, a restaurant I ate at frequently and loved as a child. It didn't disappoint.
The staff were fantastic and the menu had something for everyone. My daughter and I are vegetarian so fully expected to only have salad. However there was a whole vegan menu to choose from. The steaks and ribs where a complete hit with the neat eaters and just as I remember them, huge!
A great place to wonder round and loads of places to choose to eat too.

Very small room with hardly any light in the room. There was no separation between the toilets and the room. The WC was very small hardly any space inside. The restaurants and the casino area is good with good food. The staff were helpful and nice.

Had the BEST time (2day stay) at the Emperors Palace, @[D'oreale] the only problem was that my stay was too short.
Beautiful rooms. Attentive, Friendly staff, always helpful. Lots to see and do. Safe clean and overall fabulous!!

Went to watch a live show at the theatre. We sat in row F, but all rows is facing at an adequate angle towards the stage. Will recommend seats 17 -20 in each row as it has a bit more leg space. They allow food and drinks in except popcorn and hot bevarages. Friendly service at the door. Have plenty to do while you wait for the show or thereafter. No problem with parking.

The casino offers a wide variety of games, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel rooms are clean and comfortable, and the pricing is very reasonable. I can't recommend this place enough for a fun and affordable getaway!"

Its a nice entertainment area. There's a bit of everything there. From cinema, to club vibes at news cafe. Those into casinos, there's one. A variety of restaurants can be found as well. Just remember the R10 entrance fee for your car

I have five star because it feels with lots of activities to enjoy, from the delicious meals that is served at various restaurants there to the friendly services of the staffs. It has a very big casino space, the kids have all the fun activities at the game side, adults are not left behind.
The cinema gives you interesting options to enjoy your movies as VIPs, musicals are also available. Great picture locations it has beautiful water fountains, conference centres
Be warned that it is usually parked full during festive seasons, you might then have to wait in line for tables to eat or to enter some places.

Awesome place for conference, children's games, restaurants, movies and also mobile theme during festive seasons. For those who don't have access membership card the entrance fee is very reasonable. Your safety is really one of their products.

Wonderful as always. Lovely stay at the Grand Hotel and would definitely love to get my hand on some of the comfy bedding for home. But rather disappointed at the breakfast the next morning. Service was excellent but could have gone to wimpy for a better farmhouse breakfast

This facility is up to date and quality. The moment you enter you feel as if you are in a completely brand new world and all your worries disappear. This facility is a great place to distress and take a moment to spoil yourself. The only issue I have encountered was that one of the elevators weren't working and within that same are the lights were highly dim.

Amazing facilities. First class casino, best hotels. Great customer service. Though two of my phones were stolen there. They said they managed to find one person on the camera surveillance who had taken my phone but that was the last I heard of the phone. Really criminals..

The hotel was amazing. The casino was awful. Rude attendants everywhere, I've never felt so put off by service in a casino anywhere.
If you are coming for the hotel, a conference, or any of the amazing restaurants, it's a great experience. If there is any human interaction needed between you and casino workers, rather give another place a go.

Awesome experience for my first time there, I was there on business and all went well until I left. The security guard at the gate is very rude, I ask him what i should do when i leave because it's my first time there, his responses were. Just wait here, GO!! he shouted with no explanation, I told him straight, do not shout at me, I am not your dog, I was furious and he messed up a perfectly good day, he was at the gate at 16h30 on Saturday 2nd of March 2025

Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World is an exciting resort located in a circus-themed complex. It boasts a range of dining options, event venues, gaming facilities and spa services. The establishment follows strict COVID-19 protocols to ensure the safety of its visitors. However, it charges R10 per person on weekends which may be unexpected for those on a tight budget or travelling with a large group.
This year I went to Carnival City twice. I must say that environment at the restuarants, particularly the Spur was conducive and accommodating to the type of informal - yet critical - business engagement I needed to have at very short notice. The staff were excellent. The management understood my needs and delivered per excellence! I shall return 👌🏽
Tumaole Mohlaoli — Google review
Good COVID 19 protocol followed. R10 per person entrance on weekends is relatively new and can throw people off especially if you're on a budget with 5 plus people in your car. Overall, it is clean, great service from different shops and the outside area with the rides is well controlled and relatively safe. Definitely worth going for play dates.

Really nice place and design but over crowded with people. You can barely walk outside the casino, there's just too much going on. But I really loved the design of the place and the casino inside wasn't too bad. I just lost a lot of money 🤣 so you're welcome! They have the usual set up of restaurants, movies and the casino.

Wonderful place for individuals and families gathering for a variety of activities of enjoyment. Wonderful management team, workforce as well as security personnel. The place is always running despite the challenges posed by persistent load shedding. The addition of an Ice Ring on top of a variety of restaurants, kids indoor and outdoor play center, the Cinema as well as live musical events makes the place an ideal place to choose whilst in the East Rand. Carnival City Casino is a true definition of Ekhurhuleni (A place of calmness and peace).

Such a gem and great value for money. Innocent was very friendly and helpful and went the extra mile to help us secure a room upgrade. Rooms are surprisingly big, especially coming to Carnival City straight after the Cabanas at Sun City. Just wish the smoking policy would be better enforced as smokers don't seem to realize it's a public space around the pool

Great time as always at Carnival, the only sad part is all the beautiful water features are gone, most noticeably at the front entrance. The bowling and arcade games are much better with the renovations done but sadly it feels as if it's missing something, especially by the casino side.
The maintenance is also not being done at all as all the paint is faded.

It's amazing and super affordable, really! The tokens are as cheap as R2 so for R100 you get 50 tokens and your child can play at their own pace. They now have an extended playing area which was a small area when I last went in 2021 whereby game tickets start from as little as R10. I swear, it is now a mini Goldreef city 😍. The Voortrekker Monument commemorates the history of the Afrikaner people and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa. The monument features a unique architectural design that allows sunlight to shine through an opening on the dome once a year (on 16 December) to illuminate patriotic words carved into the cenotaph, the symbolic grave of all pioneers who died during the Great Trek.
Always good to see historical places. This one being special due to my heritage.
The gardens have been redone and looks great.
The restaurants and shops are also beautifully redone and have a wide variety of items for sale.
The FAK liedjie(song) garden takes you through the most recognized songs of the Afrikaans people. Suggestion here would be to have the tunes play by a button or a link to YouTube with the songs.

Some really great art work, old wagons and various items.
At the top you able to walk around and get views of Pretoria. There is a lift for those not able to walk the many steps
It was really worth the visit even though the cost was a bit steep at R205pp , there is a discount for pensioners

Imposing structure, beautiful architecture. The souvenir store has some nice items in stock. You have to check it out when you are there. However, the story depicted here does not seem to match historical facts. Let's tell history as is so that future generations can learn from it.

Very interesting to understand a part of the history of the Dutch and South Africa. It’s not just a big tower with amazing view over Pretoria but a museum that tells the whole (and sometimes bloody) story. Try to find/book a guide because the story comes alive.
Two (different) gift shops and two (different) restaurants. I went to the ‘school’ restaurant (outside on the left when you leave) and very affordable and good food.

Beautiful historical place to visit, a toponim in Pretoria. Views from the top of the monument are spectacular. There is also a gallery inside. It takes some time to go through the entire building but is worth it. It is also surrounded by beautiful gardens with animal sculptures. There is a gift shop that is not crazy with prices. Plenty of parking even on public holiday. There was a market of antiquities nearby on the day I went, but not sure if it's a regular thing.

About 20mns drive from either city.

Give yourself around 1.5hrs to explore the whole place. Restaurants also available.

Fantastic and interesting piece of South African history. Highly recommend especially on a clear day. The views are amazing.

The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, located in Pretoria, is a 210-acre zoo and research hub that offers a diverse range of attractions. Visitors can explore the reptile park, inland aquarium, and extensive collection of exotic trees. The zoo is home to over 3,100 animals representing more than 500 species across various categories. It's dedicated to conservation efforts with spacious enclosures that mimic natural habitats.
My family absolutely loved the day at the Zoo! The gardens and enclosures are clean and well kept, the staff is super friendly and the animals are simply amazing. The zoo has every kind of animal from birds to fish, and reptiles and mammals. The zoo is now a permanent feature on our visits to family in PTA

Parking: R30, Adults entrance R120, Kids entrance R80.
Beautiful array of animals from Africa and other continents alike.
From zebras to koalas, an aquarium to an Australia section, there's enough for a day visit at the zoo!
Golf carts are available for R150 an hour, kiddies carts available from R100 for the full day (+ R20 deposit).
There could be improvements to the bathroom facilities.
There's also quite a few areas under construction, shut down cable services, no kiddie entertainment operating yet its there, or animals empty habitats but I would assume it is recent and they are preparing for better services.
Rafeeah Ally — Google review
Few enclosures and few that are in a good condition. Little water for the animals. River very polluted though they advocate against litter. Seems most of the zoo "is being renovated". ...Goodness knows for how long. Pathetic to put it nicely.

So I visited on a rainy Monday morning 😅 in April.
Pros:
- I enjoyed the serenity. I felt like I had the time alone. Just me and the gorgeous animals everywhere. Ostrich, flamingos, vultures, chimps, elephants, giraffes, different birds, farm animals, donkeys, buffalo, springbok, elan etc.
- Plus it was clean.
- friendly staff
-I think the price of 100pp/ adult is quite fair.
Cons:
- Lots of construction was in progress and they didn't have clear signs as to where to go and where not to access. Hence, My heart was racing so much cos i feared walking in on a wild animals privacy 💀
- i could not visit the bridge area where the white lions, big cats, koala, etc were because on of the workers advised it was slippery because of the rain. (I HAD TO ASK myself cos i had doubts) imagine i didn't, it could have turned out dangerously bad.
- No Signs or maps of the zoo
Tried connecting to a QR code at the welcome desk and it was requesting i connect my bank card 💀💀💀 no bruhh

Would be nice to go back when all the maintenance has been done. Not many young animals most old with not more than 1 friend per cage. Lots of birds ducks and bucks. It could be better hopefully after and if the maintenance is completed it will be worth the $ trip
Right in the middle of town. Shops, kids trains, cable cars and many areas closed off for now.

Our visit was on a Friday at the end of June.
Upon arrival we received the feeding times sheet. We took the kids to see the bear feeding as per the schedule, but were informed that all the bears have died. Why have that on the feeding times roster?!
We then attempted to see the penguin feeding, but there were no penguins to be seen. Anywhere.
The Flamingos, Pigmy, Lemurs, Lions, Leopards and Cheetah sightings were an absolute delight. The kids loved seeing these.
Unfortunately the sea display in the aquarium area had almost half of the displays out of order or empty.
The park gardens are still green and beautiful in places, but there’s a large part that is unkempt. The river / stream flowing through the Zoo is absolutely disgustingly strewn with litter and milky-green with a stench.
The huge bird cage used to be an attraction, but is now overgrown with weeds and all kinds of plants with the cage completely in disrepair.
It does not look like the cable cars are currently working. Possibly due to winter season.
The staff were friendly and helpful.

I enjoyed my day at the Zoo. Unfortunately it hurt seeing the tiger and other animals suffering from the heat and what I could see there was no water for them. The renovations from what I can see has been over years since construction has started. The cable cars were not working which was a disappointment and the restaurant was closed. The birds on the hill are all by themselves the grass is too high and they have almost no water and no food. We tried to feed them water but failed.

Incredibly disappointed
we were at the zoo approximately 2years ago an today 08-Jul-2023, was the complete opposite experience
many enclosures are empty, some enclosures had only one animal, 60% of the aquarium's and reptiles (snakes) glass boxes(tanks) were empty.
and to top it off, the apies river that flows through the zoo looks and smells bad
werner steyn — Google review
The place was run down and very few animals. The enclosures were dirty and the animals looked miserable. However the reptile enclosure was one of the highlights of the TRIP and hiring the golf cart to drive through the zoo. It's a MUST if you are going to visit the zoo.
Wesley Govender — Google review
Our visit to the zoo was a very sad and disappointing experience. The cable car looks to be abandoned and was out of order. There was litter (plastic bags and cigarette stumps) within the animal enclosures, holes in roofs and just overall looks completely neglected. Even more concerning was that the animals look depressed, under stimulated and the enclosures which used to have beautiful water features are completely dried up. I did not see any enclosures besides the vultures that had fresh water. Even the giraffes had no fresh water, just a small bright green pool of rancid water. The elephant which is a herd animal is standing completely alone in a very small enclosure, completely unnatural. The wolves were in an enclosure that was so small it felt cruel. Three lion cubs, also in an enclosure that was unnaturally and obviously far too small.
We also unfortunately saw staff feeding the birds and limas, throwing the bowls down with absolutely no care or consideration at all. One of the bowls nearly impacted one of the parrots. We were absolutely disgusted by the attitude of some staff toward the animals. We will never come back. We hope and pray the animals do not suffer for too long in those undesirable conditions.
Cara Leigh — Google review
Such an amazing place to visit. You can see almost all the animals there including penguins. 🐧
You may have to walk a long distance but it's all worth it.
The Zoo people feed the Tiger and Lions at 14:30 in every consecutive days. So, if you go there by that time, you can see how they eat their food.
It was R70 for children and R100 for per adult.
Please don't go on public holidays coz they won't open the aquarium.
Overall it was an astonishing experience.
Although I feel really bad about being selfish and enjoying all animals being kept caged but I hope they are well kept even if that won't compensate anything.

We had an awesome day with the little 1 on a Friday. Getting the golf cart for the entire day immensely improved our visit. We were disappointed by the lack of care of the facility. There are lots of animals that are no longer at the zoo. There's a lot of areas that are under construction/refurb.
Alex Lekuba — Google review
Great place to visit. Was able to ride along with a staff member who showed us things behind the scenes. The entire visit was great and enjoyable. The animals were well cared for and saw several feeding activities.
Asheed Abark — Google review
Very disappointing, I was last at the zoo about 9 years ago and they were doing renovations. I thought that it was going to be improved but it is actually worse. The section they were working on is still being worked on and has not changed at all but more of the zoo is now under so called renovations, I think the renovations are just an excuse to cover a deteriorating zoo. Lots of the enclosures do not have animals in anymore, the sea aquarium is mostly empty, the Australia section was closed, the bird aviary is in ruin. Other reviews going back a year or two mention the same things so it is not just a temporary inconvenience, the entrance fee is then expensive considering you only get about 55% of what you pay for. I really hope things improve.
Kent Williamson — Google review
Probably a lot more than I had expected. Great place to hang out and check out some animals. Be sure to get a cart (not included in entrance fee) as that allows you cover more ground in the time that you're there while also having a pretty laid back experience of the zoo. Food is whatever you fancy as they have plenty of stalls there, but you also have the option to bring in your own food, even your own braai if you like

Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a large and untouched nature reserve in Gauteng, South Africa, home to four of The Big Five game animals - black wildebeest, buffalo, cheetah, and lion. Visitors can explore the reserve at their own leisure from the comfort of their car on easy day-trips. There are also guided hikes and horse trails available for those who want to get out more deeply into the reserve.
Must visit game reserve for the whole family. Much to see in terms of tons of bird species and plenty of animals that include the hippo and rhino. There are picnic and braai spots inside for relaxing. These spots must be vacated at 6pm, with the main gate closing at 7.
We got a bit lost inside on our way out because the roads are not properly marked with sensible directions. If you're gonna exit and are not too sure about the route, I recommend you start moving well on time.

Very well looked after nature reserve, just on the edge of the suburbs of Pretoria. There is a large dam and lots of grasslands as well as some small rivers and reed beds. There are buffalo, cheetah and other wildlife to see, but it is probably the bird life that makes this place so special. With a diversity of habitats you should easily able to see at least 50 different species in a few hours if you drive to different spots. There are also several well maintained birdhides where you can sit and admire the scenery while you lookout for birds. There is also a nice restaurant/coffee-shop where you can get a light snack and refreshments and enjoy sitting out in the peaceful gardens.

Support an excellent nature reserve right in the heart of Gauteng. Easy access from the main routes and they offer a number of facilities along with some excellent game viewing. Very good picnic/ braai facility with ablutions. A tea garden with good coffee or hot chocolate on those cold mornings. Self drive and game drive vehicles. Some unique animals if you are lucky and you can be home in time for lunch if you like.

What a wonderful surprise!
This tiny nature reserve seems well stocked and beautiful.
The roads are clearly marked and easy to drive.
There are several bird hides and loads to see.
There are picnic spots by the dam, and we loved that it was just a small drive out of the city.
R71 per adult.

Affordable and thrilling experience for the whole family! We visited Rietvlei nature reserve and were amazed by the diverse wildlife, including rhinos, zebras, and a massive herd of buffaloes. It's an exciting excursion for children, offering a memorable encounter with nature's wonders.

A pleasant surprise. Though there was a queue we didn't regret waiting. Saw many animals up close including a rhino. Good viewing for the fee paid.

One of my favourite “in the wild” places to relax and unwind. Perfectly located between Kempton Park and Pretoria offering that “outdoor wildlife experience” without having to drive for hours. I haven’t been disappointed yet.
The birdlife is amazing. The hides are perfect for sunset photography. The cheetah’s are always on the list of animals to find. So far I have seen them 3 times… And with the cubs only a few months old it’s the perfect time to visit.
For the more adventurous there’s the wildlife walks and overnight camps. The tar roads are good, however, some of the sand roads need a little attention, especially if you’re in a sedan.
Tickets are purchased on arrival, but credit card only. No cash!

Looking for some quiet time in Nature just 30min out of Johannesburg? Then head out early to Rietvlei Nature Reserve in Pretoria. This beautiful reserve is a bird watchers dream, with tons of wild life too, buffalo, zebra, eland, jackal, serval as well as cheetah! You can only get out at demarcated areas and hides. There is a wonderful picnic site by the dam with loads of seating and braai facilities and there is a coffee shop that offers limited meals. Conservation fees are about R62 for adults (less for children and pensioners). Pack a picnic and head out for a lovely day away from the city hustle.
Don’t forget to pack binoculars and cameras. You can also download a basic bird and animal list from Google for the kids to mark off while driving around.

We visited on a weekend in September 2023 before heading to the airport for our flight home. It was not too busy. There was a short wait to get a ticket, but the roads weren't too bad. It is a nice reserve to drive around and see wildlife. We found the signage extremely bad. This picture of a road sign, with missing arrows and letters peeling off was typical. The bathrooms were pretty bad too. This place could definitely use some maintenance.

Spent a relaxing afternoon driving around the reserve. It isn’t too big so it is a great way to introduce children to a game drive and the love of wild animals. The bird hides and lookout points were a highlight for the children and gave them an opportunity to stretch their legs. I was a bit disappointed with the coffee shop playground. I hope that it gets a revamp so that visiting children can take a break from the drive and recharge. I also hope that the friendly donkeys get better roof in the donkey pen. Overall it was a great afternoon driving through grasslands and wetlands. We saw rhino, zebra, waterbuck, guineafowl, blesbok and many birds. We just enjoyed being in nature.

Such a peaceful retreat, with a huge abundance of water, wildlife & birds.
Extremely affordable.
Roads are well kept but being mainly dirt roads, heavy rain falls can effect the condition thereof.
Photographers paradise.
Braai/picnic area & coffee shop.
Organized hikes & game drives.
Due to the recent heavy rain, some of the dirt roads have been closed off to the public

On my first visit I saw quite a variety of the animals. The clouds also played along to make the scenery more spectacular. Even heard some jackals while driving around the reserve.
The animals are so relaxed around the vehicles that you can have a nice close view of them🦓 I would recommend going here to anyone.

Stunning location and feels like you are escaping from the city. Really nicr picnic spots and the drive to the dam with all the animals is incredible.

Very nice game drive. Lots of animals that includes Cheetahs, rhinos and many more. Pricing not bad for a day out with the family. Place is clean and lots of picnic spots. There is braai areas. So make sure to pack a chop

Had a great afternoon. Reasonable game viewing ending off with a cheetah sighting in the late afternoon (rare sighting so expectations should be moderated). Pretend you’re in the real bush and you’ll enjoy.

The price has gone up and is now currently more than what they indicate on the website. If I remember correctly, it is now R72 per adult to enter the nature reserve. I recommend going early to avoid standing in a queue to enter, which is what we did. Make sure to pack lots of fluids to drink and don't forget a camera or binoculars. A very nice day trip for the whole family!

I have visited Rietvlei twice in the last three months for birding. The place is well maintained, with clean toilets and hides. Unfortunately, the reed's around some of the hides are overgrown, making it difficult to see any water birds. The birds can be heard but not seen. I believe that if the reed's were cut a bit it would allow for better birding. The park itself has a good amount of animals and plenty of bird life. Roads are good in the dry season, but i think that in the wet season some of the dirt roads will be a challenge to normal cars. Picnic sites are clean and well maintained. It is a pleasure to visit this park.

Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a gem on the edge of town in Pretoria East. This quaint, small and stunning reserve is the perfect place for a day visit no matter the season. It has a nice selection of wildlife, often is the home of a cheetah or six, and has an abundance of birdlife that make it a birder's must visit. Animals are relaxed, and the "Friends of Rietvlei" keep the reserve well looked after. It has a beautifully selection of hides, picnic areas, a nice "Coffee Shop" where you can enjoy drinks and food, and the tar roads are well kept, and most of the dirt roads are in good condition too but some sections can be a bit challenging for an urban car especially after rain. The reserve is very popular on weekends, so things can be a bit messy on Mondays and Tuesdays around picnic areas, but usually by Wednesday everything is beautifully pristine again. If you do enjoy this reserve or want to become an avid visitor, join "Fiends of Rietvlei" membership to support the volunteers who look after the reserve, or join their efforts yourself.

Its a nice little urban reserve. Self drive through the reserve. many animals but we saw zebras, waterbugs, ostrich, few rhino, and beautiful bird life. The restaurant had delicious food. But was not very clean. Its an old farm house that needs a good clean.

I absolutely loved the place and the beauty it holds within. It is well maintained and kept clean. They also have some game animals too but none that are carnivorous or dangerous. It is massive and have things that you can do such as calm, quiet drives, hideouts, lapas and bomas and the dam is accessible for being on the water. It is definitely a family orientated place and the kids will be able to enjoy the day and have the best sleep that night.

The Springs mall management instructed ubars and bolts to drop us far from the shops we going to, I am using the crushes the mall doesn't allow ubar or bolt to drop me next to Standard bank, this is sad and it's violated my rights, that really needs to be fixed we pay for our ubar & bolts it's not fair to have dropping points, specially to us who are unable to walk long distance. We don't use taxis because we are unable to walk long distance due to medical conditions

My experience at Springs mall seeing security guards abusing elderly ppl parked at the entrance just so the lady can be able to get be lifted to her wheelchair. I'm disgusted by this act they didn't even show compassion instead of them assisting they are screaming and pointing at poor ppl . What gives your guards so much power to abuse customers because apart from this incident Springs mall guards are very disrespectful

The Union Buildings in Pretoria are the official seat of South African government. The building is a 285 metre (311 yard) long neoclassical masterpiece with a Renaissance, Edwardian and Cape Dutch influence. Former president Nelson Mandela was inaugurated in this building.
Beautiful place, nice architectural style, nice sculptures, beautiful gardens and well maintained, everywhere is clean. Entrance is free during weekdays until Friday 18:00, no access is allowed on weekends to walk around. Nice place for a picnic, date, chill with friends, kids and family, beautiful views and fresh air.

Stunning architecture and beautiful statue of a leader that meant so much to South Africa. The gardens and fountains look exquisite, is well laid out and maintained. This is a great place to visit on a day outing to Pretoria. From here you will also have a great view over the city. The road towards the Building is a bit neglected, but don’t let that discourage you, the visit is worth it!

As everyone has mentioned, the gardens are really beautiful and well kept! With many photo/selfie opportunities. 😉
There are informative boards which help you to see what you are looking at, all around the grounds, and give some background.
Absolutely worth the visit, the view over the city is beautiful, and you can drive over the mountain and see the city from the other side as well.
The Khoisan (aka "Aboriginal embassy") are still camping out at the bottom (next to Mr Mandela's statue), they have been there since 2018. You can meet them and hear their stories, which is intense, but insightful.
Linel le Roux — Google review
Well manicured gardens and you are able to drive up to the buildings and park really close. Security is tight and you aren’t able to get into the amphitheater which is expected.
You can park and walk down to the Nelson Mandela statue which is a hit with all the tourists. Watch out for the water sprinklers they do catch the stairway. Majestic and stunning buildings.
Wayne Erradu — Google review
No entry fee is required.
The upper area is well maintained. The garden is beautiful to be around. It’s a perfect place for a picnic or just “sight seeing”. The view of the city & the sunset from there are beautiful as well.
There are a couple of photographers who will want to take pictures of you, but they won’t harass you. There are also a couple of homeless people/beggars who will ask for your food.
There aren’t many security guards so it’s advisable to come in groups, always beware of your surroundings and stay safe.

Beautiful place to visit with a stunning view of parts of Pretoria. It's easily accessible from different directions. The gardens are well maintained. But wow, the toilets stink. I hope they've improved since the last time. It's a shock to be surrounded by so much beauty and history, and get hit by the smell of dirty toilets. It's a disgrace. There's such a nice vibe here and for a moment you feel part of history as your eyes drink in those beautiful surroundings and the massive statue of Madiba. I love going there.
Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden covering an area of 9 hectares in the city of Pretoria, South Africa. The gardens are home to indigenous plants and flowers from all over South Africa, as well as a variety of bird species. The gardens are divided into two sections by a high quartzite outcrop, presenting different natural moods.
A really well kept national treasure. It's huge, I was not able to go through all of it but it's such a beautiful garden with a variety of plants and flowers. Be sure to have picnic blankets and pillows for a relaxed afternoon

Went on a Saturday afternoon, surprisingly not packed and ample parking. Bring a card to pay for your entrance fee. Pack a picnic, I found there was more than enough shaded benches so we didn’t even use our picnic blanket (maybe on busy days it may come in handy). The bathroom were very clean.

Had a great time strolling through the gardens on a weekday afternoon. Easy access with plenty of safe parking. Good variety of plants although it wasn't too colorful when we went in early March. Lots of green however which is a nice departure from the city landscape. Staff is super friendly and helpful and the entrance fees are extremely cheap. The waterfall and a nice easy hike with some elevation is a great way to breakup the flat areas with the hilly areas.

Nice walk and outdoor for adults, more than kids. I'd suggest a jungle gym or two for the little ones to make it more entertaining for them as there isn't much to occupy a almost 3 year old. Restaurant looks nice, looking forward to trying it some time.

I'm not sure where these other local guides come from, with their 5 star ratings, and I hardly see flowers in a bloom session. It's very dry, and beaches are all written on. It seems not even bothered to try to fix that, and fresh cuts in trees, ash amongst the nature just laying there like no tomorrow, can see how some plants are dying around it.
This place should rather change its name to something else it's become more of a venue and graffiti crafting in benches and trees, unfriendly at the gate, they definitely love their phones way more than helping the customer, really bad attitude. At least the grass is green. Hardly see wildlife, but I guess all the clubbing performances chased them away. But for only a picnic, I'd say it's worth it some nice big trees for shade.

This is by far a jewel in the heart of Pretoria, these gardens takes you away to an oasis that only you can create in your mind. If you ever get the opportunity please make a point of taking a walk or even enjoying a picnic

The garden is well kept and a delight for anyone who loves nature and indigenous plants. Doesnt make sense to go. The whole trip is just giving information by the guide about how is the process of making diamonds (you could find better on YouTube) and showing artificial, made on the ground tunel. At the end big hole in the ground. I Hope to see a REAL things, maybe a tunel down there?
Which was funny you have to declare that you are no claustrophobic (really...for small walk?) And you need to wear Snickers not sandals. Why, I wonder why... But that is beside the point - it was waist od time. That big whole and plastik "diamonds" are not worth it.

I've been to a few zip lining places and this place is ok, meets the task adequately. It is a long drive from Johannesburg so be prepared for that. It's out in the middle of no where without amenities near by, should take specific snacks of things that you need.
The zip lining it's self was ok, although not spectacular. The wind made it hard to achieve high speeds. However, the scenery is good, I imagine the hike around the gorge is worth the drive out. The folks are friendly here and there is a nice platform to hand out on and some freshly made food. I personally would not visit this again but perhaps other folks would.

While the place is beautiful once you get there. There's a lot to do. The views are amazing for nature lovers. Apparently there's a canyon for hikers. However we got lost. Please update your address on Google maps. We went there for quad bikes. But the quads are old and kept breaking down. So we did not get the full experience. The trail is nice though for thrill seekers. The place is a bit far out of PTA

We went on the Quad Safari. At R850 per person for a 2 hour 25km drive we expected a slightly better experience. The guide wasn't much of a talker nor did he bother to give anyone a quick overview of how the quads worked.
I had the only manual gearbox which worked out great as I've driven bikes before. But several of the other riders got stuck with automatics that couldn't even idle. So they had to restart the engine every few hundreds of meters. The guide's own quad smoked so bad that no-one wanted to ride directly behind him.
Something they didn't mention on the website is to bring goggles or sunglasses. The drive would've been impossible without eye cover. Talking about safety: if you have a bike helmet, I suggest you bring it as the toy hard hats they offer would be useless in a fall.
We didn't see much game but the experience of being on a dirt road on a quad with a manual gearbox made it worthwhile in the end for me.
L Cilliers — Google review
The equipment is very poorly maintained. The quad bikes are literally falling apart. They’re taped together in places and some had pieces and seats coming off during the ride.
Of 14 guys on the bikes, 6 broke down during the drive and the quads had to be left behind.
The arrows for archery are all bent and missing fins. These are cheap to replace when running a business.
There was also an employee racing through the car park on a quad bike multiple times, leaving dust in the faces of all the guests.
The only great review was the lunch which was delicious and well prepared.

The facility houses monks and offers retreats, boasts a museum and tea house, and serves vegetarian lunches. The temples within the complex are awe-inspiring in size and beauty, offering an otherworldly atmosphere that cannot be fully described with words alone.
A tranquil and beautiful break from the city. The temple was quiet for a Saturday… With lovely nature sounds as you walk around. An absolute must visit if you’re into your Buddhist temples.
The staff were friendly and helpful with a nice safe environment for prayer…
The toilets were clean!

Nan Hua Temple is an absolute gem! I recently had the pleasure of attending the 2024 Chinese New Year celebration there, and it was a truly mesmerizing experience. From the moment I stepped foot onto the temple grounds, I was captivated by the vibrant atmosphere and rich cultural heritage.
The temple's intricate architecture, adorned with traditional Chinese motifs, provided a stunning backdrop for the festivities. As I wandered through the temple grounds, I was greeted by the sounds of joyous celebrations and the tantalizing aroma of incense wafting through the air.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Chinese New Year festivities. The temple came alive with colorful decorations, lively performances, and joyful gatherings. From dragon dances to mesmerizing martial arts displays, every moment was filled with energy and excitement.
One of the most memorable aspects of my visit was capturing the essence of the celebration through photography. The vibrant colors, intricate details, and genuine moments of connection I captured in my photos truly encapsulated the spirit of the Chinese New Year celebration at Nan Hua Temple.
Whether you're a seasoned traveler or simply looking to immerse yourself in cultural experiences, Nan Hua Temple is a must-visit destination. Its beauty, spirituality, and sense of community make it a place like no other. I highly recommend visiting during the Chinese New Year celebration for an unforgettable experience that will stay with you for years to come.

What a magical place.. The size of it alone blows you away and the temples are breathtaking. It has a otherworldly feel to it, a silence I cannot describe, you should go and experience it yourself. No vegan options at the Cafe, and no dairy alternatives for coffee. Bathrooms are clean and tidy.

Visited the temple with two friends.
The place needs to be rejuvenated a bit. The interiors are great, loved the smell coming from that "smoke" and loved the sculptures inside the temple, but outside... the temple could use some paint.
I really loved the long descriptions about the period of time when x and y happened, but I think they need to put a bit more of them.
You have to take your shoes off in the second temple, and phones are not allowed inside any of the temples except the smallest one that has a green roof.
You kind of have to walk small but considerable distances to end up taking a few pictures.
Getting to the toilet is a slight ride and the toilets are not that clean.
I particularly remember this one Asian lady that gave me a flyer in the second temple and explained where I had to go because she was nice.
It was a nice experience, but If you decide not to visit this place will not miss out on anything extraordinary.

A quiet, clean religious environment that is relaxing to be in. In addition, very beautiful spaces for photography. The important thing is that the temple is open on working days until 2 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays until 3 pm

My retreat experience at Nan Hua Temple left me utterly enchanted. I wholeheartedly endorse and support this remarkable sanctuary. It's a place where magic truly happens, and staying overnight during the retreat is an unforgettable journey into something profoundly special. I implore you to join me in supporting the Nan Hua Temple, so that its serene haven continues to offer the gift of bliss, tranquility, delectable cuisine, and boundless joy to all who seek it. Highly recommended venue to visit for any family who love to explore and discover culture rich sites.
We happened to visit on a relatively quiet day. Observed the guidelines required and enjoyed the experience of the environment.
They do have an events calendar where the public are invited to attend.
Only one piece of advice: Respect their rules and dress code.

What an incredible place! We saw it earlier in the year on our way to Dullstroom and so glad we decided to vist. A vast, immaculately kept property with 2 temples and very informative followers. There are 2 temples, a guesthouse and an orphanage all funded by devotees from around the world. Cannot wait for the Chinese new year celebration. I can highly recommend a visit. There is a coffee shop in the Guesthouse complex which serves very mediocre food but they would normally provide vegetarian buffet for free to visitors but not in the pandemic. You will leave with a feeling of peace and tranquility.

Beautiful, well- maintained temple. I was surprised that it was so quiet but it definitely added to the serenity of the place. The main temple has breathtaking Buddha statues and you can't photograph it so you've got to see it to believe it😩♥️

Chinese New Year was our reason to visit this temple.
Culturally, it was a pleasant and enjoyable experience, with great spiritual meaning too.
It’s worth the long drive to Bronkhorstspruit to view the temple, learn about Buddhism and experience a moment of inner peace and renewal.
There’s safe parking.
For Chinese New Year celebrations there were also numerous food stalls.
There’s also a museum / shop.
Take cash as not many of the vendors have card facilities.

What a beautiful temple! It's so peaceful and serene. The monks are friendly and it's looked after so well. All the artwork, statues and even the architecture is kept clean and in excellent condition.
I've attended one of it's Chinese New Year Festivals and it was a spectacular event. There were lots of celebrations and lots of stalls with food and merchandise to be bought and it was just overall a fun experience. I'd definitely recommend it and I'll definitely be returning again.

This is one of the most peaceful, meditative and stunning places of worship in the country. There is a lot to see and discover. The temple is a must visit when you are in Bronkhorstspruit.

The best time to come is during Chinese New Year. You'll see lots of attractions, and delicious vegetarian meals will be sold there. Dragon dance, firecrackers show, some Chinese food on the stalls, clothing, accessories—literally almost everything you'll get there. Remember that the Chinese New Year is the most crowded time to visit. The location is quite a distance both from Johannesburg and Pretoria, but it's worth the drive since there are lots of festivities that you'll surely enjoy during that season.
I went there a few times, and the temple was very beautiful, clean, and peaceful. It was huge! There were around 3/4 temples located in one spacious compound ⛩️👲
You'll feel like you're in China already once you visit there! 🇨🇳

Really good place to find peace of mind. Little bit outside but its worth for a long drive. Special in Chinese new year. You will see different cultures and people all together celebrating it. What an awesome experience. Great work being done here for raptors and birds of prey. Staff are truly dedicated to their craft. Special commendation to Magdali for her enthusiastic and entertaining education about the birds of prey during the live showing. Well done to the centre for the large number of birds they are able to release back into the wild. Each animal has its own story. It is worth going there for a visit, even if it's just to support this amazing initiative.

The walk around the various aviaries was most interesting with well documented information on each bird. The highlight was the flight demonstration which kept us enthralled for the full two hours. Always such a pleasure to go to thos centre. From the interesting facts and the quirky way of telling each birds story to the absolute highlight of each visit: the flying display.
We had so much fun with Thom who is doing his practical year as part of his studies. His personal relationship and true empathy for the birds came through so strong. He is also an excellent presenter and such an easy person to interact with. One can see his passion for the birds and conservation in the way he speaks. He would be a valuable addition to this centre!

Amazing place, definitely worth a visit! The birds that can not be released look happy and well taken care of. The birds that will be released in the future are not visible for the public, which is great! We went on a random Monday and had a private bird demonstration with lots of information, given by lovely volunteers. You should definitely pay them a visit. Great for kids as well!

Demonstration is a must see. The presenter was a pog/10. Learnt a bunch.
The walk through their gardens were beautiful and filled with stories of the birds. A bird being retired from demonstration for attacking children is whew.

Quite a unique experience for sure. I've drank a lot of different whiskeys but have never done a whiskey tasting. There are many preselected menu options of whiskeys (scotch, Irish, bourbons, and even Japanese and Indian), gins, and tequilas. There are also whiskey and chocolate pairings. It's a fun adult outing something for everyone (who drinks).

Decided to go to Wild About Whisky.
Being an avid whisky drinker. This was one of my to-do things in Dullstroom at the top of my list. What an amazing place I think they have around 1700 various whisky to choose from. After browsing through the menus.
I asked if I could choose from the bar instead of the groupings on the menu.
Pascal, I hope I am spelling your name correctly. Was very knowledgeable and passionate about his whisky. He is definitely in the right job.I wanted to try various whisky that I have not tried before.
So, with Pascal's guidance, I went with
Auchentohan 12 yr: Jura Seven Wood:
Edradour 10yr:Tamdhu 13yr:
Balvenie Carribean Cask 14yr:
GlenAllachie 58,% 15yr.
What an experience. When I go to Dullstoom again.I will definitely be popping in again to try other whisky. They also have Tequilas,Gin and Rum & Brandy tastings as well.

Anvil Ale House & Brewery is a microbrewery located in Dullstroom, offering a variety of beers such as Blond Ale, Pale Ale, White Anvil, and Black Anvil. The brewery follows European techniques and uses water from the Steenkampsberge springs to brew their unpasteurized beers without any unnatural additives. A decent little pub/brewery, set at the edge of Dullstroom. A well looked after garden makes for a nice sit outside, although I worry if there is enough seating during peak hours. The beer was cold and refreshing, food was perfectly fine, but not great by any means.
Pricing is okay too, not cheap but still fair. The only issue is the lady at the bar is miserable and rude (visited 25/09/2023).

Beautiful place but the restaurant service is very poor, we were the only table in the whole place but had to go ask for service after they saw us and a waiter that was smoking outside told them there is a table outside. I would not recommend this place to anyone else. The place is run down and needs a lot of attention to restore all the basic amenities.
The pool is dirty, all the ponds at the facility have dirty and smelly stagnant water.

There is no Wifi contrary to what is on their website never going to it again.
Sudwala Caves, a popular tourist attraction in Mpumalanga, offer a unique experience with its ancient cavern system. These caves, estimated to be around 240 million years old, are among the oldest on Earth. Visitors can explore the depths of these caves on a guided tour, descending 490 feet below the surface. Along the way, they can marvel at the illuminated rock formations such as stalactites and stalagmites.
It was a lovely experience. We unfortunately went when it was rainy and there was a lot of mud and water puddles which made it rather messy and hard to maneuver here and there. All in all a wonderful experience and the guide was excellent and informative. There is also a wonderful view from the restaurant deck.

Fun and eye opening experience, really not too much walking involved either.
The whole place is beautiful and the guides are well informed and explain the history of the caves in a way that's easily understandable for anyone.
Do not wear your best clothing and shoes it will get dirty. Plakkies are also not advisable as the caves are slippery, wet, somewhat dark, and muddy majority of the time I would think.
Overall an experience and outing I would highly recommend to anyone.

Always a fun stop. Nice attraction for the grow ups or the children. Take a break from your hectic life to go look at a true heritage site not really very far from Pretoria. There are enough activities to make a whole day outing of it. If you book the serious tour in advance you also get to partake in a truly unique caving experience going for a few km underground. The Resturant serves ok food. There is a dinosaur park with quite a number of large replica dinosaurs. (They may need a bit of maintenance though.) And a butterfly garden to end it all off with. Go and try it!

There is a 100m uphill ramp. Doing this with a wheelchair, would be challenging. The caves has a few stairs, but otherwise it's relatively flat. I've included pics of the walkway. I couldn't do it in my wheelchair, but used my walker instead. The guide was very polite and assisted where necessary. Overall such a treat for me to be able to experience.

No crawling is required inside the cave, just one small part where you need to bend ( opening is approximately 1.3m high). There is also approximately 39 steps inside to view/explore one section, which is optional.

The guide was bit too fast and it honestly seemed very rushed but i guess you are allowed to stop him and ask questions.
Please wear closed shoes..better to wear walking shoes and comfy clothes. Its wet and uneven inside, and quite slippery. Some people were dressed in sandals and long dresses. It's not suitable. Also not advisable for kids that cannot walk or need to be carried. People had been carrying babies as young as 6 months. Its dangerous.
Cost was R110 per adult. Kids and pensioners were cheaper.
Also there is a stunning zipline that one can do. Its R300 . Such a beautiful view and experience

Beautiful South African history, learning about our ancestors and how they lived.
Great architecture, which only God can produce.
Believe me when l say there is a theatre within the caves where there is performance at least once a year.
You will find features that no man can make, nature just doing its thing.
It's well lit, and if you're clusterphobic, l guarantee that, for the most part, you'll be fine.
You are not to touch the walls for preservation purposes.
And they also have a race (marathon l think) that do go through the cave

Really love the curvy road BUT too many trucks.
I always try to avoid driving here.
My patience is not made to deal with the stop & go behind the trucks.
There is no space to overtake unless you're a ruthless driver.
I've haven't seen a pothole on the pass recently.
The visibility on the road isn't always so good with fog and rain.
Drive safe!

Great views! Take caution when driving around trucks though
Lone Creek Falls is a magnificent waterfall that is part of the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga. It is designated as a National Monument due to its stunning beauty and has pedestrian access and nearby parking. The waterfall drops 68m, slightly less than Mac Mac Falls, and is surrounded by indigenous forest on all sides. Visitors can easily access the falls via a short 200m walk from the parking area and enjoy picnic facilities nearby.
If you want to see a waterfall a few metres from you, then this is the place. You can literally feel the splashes of water on your body.
There's also a place set for you to take a nice view of the fall. Wonderful experience ❤️ . Entrance fee was about R35 per person
Mcdon Banyini — Google review
Can't denie natures calming and refreshing qualities, really beautiful falls but the overall care for the place could be better, the viewing/ cross over bridge needs an upgrade. And those "Do not enter" signs that now hang on a chain around the falls are a tacky eye sore taking away from the experience and look ugly in our pictures. Must say we where very happy to find flashing restrooms, clean and with tissue there.👌
Tshidi Malatji — Google review
The falls itself is beautiful and a nice forest walk to get there. However, I personally don’t think it is worth it. The price is R45 per person and most people only spend about 15-20min there. The land owners are also not fixing the road to get there. The road is in a horrible condition.
Stephan Gilliland — Google review
Beautiful! The walkways are kept well. All the no entry signs and chains (that are ignored in anyway) can really be taken down and caution signs rather installed. Everyone wants to feel the water in the pool
Marinus Reynecke — Google review
Definitely a must see. One of the best watefalls I have seen. There is an easy trail to walk to the waterfalls and it is just amazing to see. The water is crystal clear and you can feel the splashes on you. Just such a pity that a fence has been put up preventing you from going closer to the waterfall and which really ruins the view. Definitely recommend visiting here. Just be sure to bring some cash as there is a R35 entrance fee.

Tucked away in the verdant forests of South Africa's Mpumalanga province, Lone Creek Falls offers a serene and enchanting retreat for nature lovers. As we embarked on the short hike leading to Lone Creek Falls, we were greeted by a sense of anticipation and wonder. The trail meandered through a lush forest, offering glimpses of sunlight filtering through the dense foliage, creating a magical atmosphere. Lone Creek Falls is a true gem of natural beauty. Its tranquil allure, captivating cascade, and immersive ambiance make it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and serenity seekers alike. Prepare to be enchanted by the mesmerizing flow of water, the serene forest setting, and the sense of peace that envelops you.
Entrance fee is R45.

The area is beautiful, very humid closer to the waterfall. You get to have many spots for pictures, you have braai stands, an open area for kids to play and ablution block. They have controlled access, you pay a fee about R50 per adult. Few times when I visited the area, I've always witnessed the presence of medical services. The road to the area is very bumpy riddled with potholes for about 5 kilometers.
Khetho Sithole — Google review
The waterfall has a great height that is beautiful to look at, it has a soothing and awakening outdoor feel. The breezy atmosphere makes it extra. It is great for tourist attractions with great art pieces sold there. 😍🌱🍃💦

Very beautiful waterfall but unfortunately there is a new fence which prevents visitors from going closer or even swim in the small lake.
The road from sabie to the lone creek falls is full of potholes but very good manageable even with a non SUV.
The entrance fee is 16 rand per person (per 2022)
The walk from the parking spot to the waterfall is approximately 100m.
Also there is a small shop for souvenirs.
Bernhard Seidl — Google review
This is by far one of my favorite waterfalls in the area for the simple fact that you are so close to it. The spray from the impact is so refreshing as it hits your face and it is so relaxing to just stand there and breathe it in.
The waterfall is just a short walk away from the car park and offeres a circular walk to the falls, through some trees and back.
There is also a photo opportunity that is quite nice but it can get crowded and it always muddy due to the water. There is the option of a picnic onto of the falls but I never did that personally, so I can't accurately say how it is.
I recommend going here with younger children too.

Beautiful and breathtaking. One thing that I didn't like is the road that you travel towards this place. It is covered in the most terrible potholes... 2023... Mpumalanga Province should really take care of their roads. And after travelling on that terrible road, they require an entrance fee of R45 per person.
Aluwieya Fortune Hussain — Google review
It now (Mar '24) costs R45 to see the falls. The last few kms of the road are absolutely shocking, drive with care.
There is now also a fence preventing adventurous selfie takers from making fools of themselves, and spoiling it for the rest of us.
Still.. A beautiful falls!
Faruk Waja — Google review
The road leading here leaves a lot to be desired, but the view of the waterfall make up for the bad road. It is do refreshing. The entry fee is cashless.

Beautiful scenery
Does get muddy so when you visit make sure you have the correct shoes to avoid slipping.
Otherwise my family and I had a nice time there

Drive into and out of the falls was very bumpy and LOTS of pot holes. R36 entrance fee is reasonable, kids under 6 are free. Falls are beautiful and scenery well kept. Fencing to keep the crowds out of nature and safe from drowning. With the falls being less than 100m from the parking, very easy to visit.
Danny Cameron — Google review
The roads leading to this place is HORRIBLE, they have not di e anything to fix them.
Once at ghe falls, it is beautiful. There is no signal. But once you get to the entrance of the falls. There is signal again.

Disgusting!
Apparently security necessary to make sure nobody sees the beauty of nature!
There's a newly set up boom gate where the security guard demands that every person pays before entering.

A pity that some people simply go up there to drink and litter! But this did not take away from the mind blowing history of our existence.

Although some people would to call it a Heritage Site... it's a pity that other people don't care!!
The amount of bottles and rubbish strewn around, especially at the Green Stone view site, is a disaster!

Bridal Veil Falls is a unique and delicate waterfall in the area, named for its resemblance to a bride's veil. Unlike other waterfalls, water drifts gently over the rocky overhang and kisses the rocks below in fine spray. A path through the forest leads to a pool beneath the falls and wraps around its base. Despite an awful road leading up to it, Bridal Veil Falls is worth visiting for those who enjoy exploring natural wonders.
Road to the falls is awful but it is totally worth it! A short hike from the parking area brings you to a beautiful cliff with an amazing waterfall. Walk to the right around the plunge pool and walk in behind the falls - an amazing experience.
Charlene Cilliers — Google review
It is a different type of waterfall. Definitely one of the most beautiful waterfalls.
The walk is fairly steep, and the restroom was not the best.
But the waterfall was just gorgeous.
Nico Terblanche — Google review
Beautiful falls. Hike up was very easy for the first half. The 2nd half was made a lot easier with sturdy footwear with rubber soles as it is a bit damp and slippery. The falls were nice. The mist coming off soaked us! It would have been great to have benches to relax on while the kids played.
Noah Vaughan — Google review
Stunning! The spray of the falling water actually touches you. You can also go lower to view it from a different angle. It just saddens me when people litter.
Ellen Coetzee — Google review
The entrance fee is R20... it's quite an uphill walk if you are a bit unfit and the path is very slippery at times. Wear comfortable non- slip shoes for this walk. I wore sneakers, and I still slipped and fell on the way down the path. Awesome views on the drive up to the entrance of the falls. This was a gravel road, but way better than most of the tar roads in the area

The breathtaking waterfall, nestled amidst lush greenery and towering cliffs, made the journey more than worthwhile. The surrounding nature added to the charm, making it a perfect spot for nature enthusiasts and photography lovers alike. The short hike to reach the falls was enjoyable and well-marked. However, despite the wonders that awaited us at Bridal Veil Falls, there was one downside that cannot be overlooked - the condition of the road leading to the site. The journey to reach this natural gem was marred by a bumpy and poorly maintained road, which added some discomfort to the trip. Overall it was still a lovely experience.

A really beautiful Falls where you can get up close with the fresh spring water. If you carrying a camera I would advise you carry a protective casing to protect your gear. The hike to the Falls is some good cardio too.

The waterfall is beautiful. It's a bit of walk up the hill from the parking lot, but we'll worth the walk. But and it's a BIG BUT the road in is in horrible condition. Not recommended for non SUV's.

Areas in the Lowveld received significant amounts of rain during the month of February. The persistent rain has been unprecedented and thus we had to go and see our favourite Sabie waterfall.
A trip to the Bridal Veil is never in vain, but oh goodness! this was incredible! In 20 years I've never seen it in this splendor.
Be sure to take an umbrella or rain coat, the misty spray is an unavoidable delight.
It's regrettable that the road towards the entrance is in such poor condition, but if you take it slow it should be okay.
Oh what fun to feel so alive in nature!
Sanette van Wyk — Google review
A short steep walk, but absolutely worth it. The waterfall hasn't seen much rain to form the "veil" yet, but it is still luscious and green and definitely a highlight on the Panorama Route. Entrance is @R15 per adult and they have card facilities. There are bathrooms on site that are in fair condition. Please keep in mind that the gravel road and potholes that lead to the site can be bad.
Chimp Eden is a natural preserve that spans 2,500 acres and serves as a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. The facility was established by Dr Jane Goodall, an esteemed primatologist who has devoted her life to protecting these great apes and their habitats. In this sanctuary, visitors can witness firsthand the rehabilitation of chimps who have been mistreated by humans and are unable to adapt to living in the wild. Some were kept as pets or used in circuses before being rescued.
Serving as the only sanctuary for chimpanzees within South Africa, the place and experience is truly unique. The guides are informative and educate you on chimpanzees, including the lives and journeys of the chimpanzees there. Support them if you’re in the area!

Amazing to learn so much about these animals. Some horror stories of where these chimps came from but very happy to see them flourish at chimp eden. Will definitely visit again!
Johan Barnard — Google review
What a fantastic set up and experience! The guide was very knowledgeable, professional and approachable. Learning about the chimpanzees and their previous trauma was really humbling and brought home the need for more conservation efforts. It is so clear that this institution does what it can to both allow these beautiful creatures to experience some aspects of their lives within a sanctuary (E.g. in the wild they would be moving and building their nests everyday, in the sanctuary their nests are broken everyday and they need to build it again for when they sleep) whilst also caring for the chimpanzees medical needs. The gift shop offers a range of items to tickle everyone’s fancy and by supporting you are contributing towards more conservation efforts.
This is a must when you visit Mpumalanga!

We visited Chimp Eden on our way back to Johannesburg from Kruger NP. It was a nice visit and we got interesting facts on this special animal. The lady that did the tour was really helpful and gave us lots of information. There are two families of chimps which are basically in captivity, but they are well taken care of. Each of them has a different story, for some is quite sad. It was worthwhile and I would recommend it if you happen to be close to this area.

The staff were friendly professionals doing absolutely wonderful work.
The buildings and facilities seemed somewhat tired and in serious need of some TLC.
As expected, all the chimpanzees were super- stars, but the baby and old man Jaoa stole our hearts.

When you see the chimps going about their business, the personalities, the family dramas, dominance between the males, etc, you know that your money was well spent. Very entertaining for young and old. Would love to go more often, if only the price p/person was a little cheaper. But well worth the experience. 👌
The Lowveld National Botanical Garden offers a picturesque setting with two rivers, waterfalls, and a tea garden. It is an ideal place for picnics, reflection, and appreciating the diverse flora and fauna of the country. With over 2000 plant species flourishing here, including those in the African Rain Forest suspension bridge, visitors can immerse themselves in its natural beauty. The gardens also serve as a conservation site for rare plants and houses a cycad gene bank.
One of the best Botanical gardens in the country and a real gem in Mbombela. There is just so much to see and the gardens are well curated and taken care of. There are restaurants and also many spots to stop and picnic. The place has great signage and this combined with the maps ensures you always have an idea where you are.
My favourite was the African rainforest, the suspension bridge and the very powerful waterfalls.

I love the stillness of the place, we were fortunate to find a shopping cart by the gate which helped with loading picnic things. I'd suggest they look into a service of that kind where we rent wheelies to carry picnic stuff as the walk to the grass is a bit far. Overall great service with a great jungle gym for the kiddies.

Mac Mac Falls is a popular tourist destination along the Panorama route in South Africa. Located upstream from the Mac Mac Pools, this waterfall drops 65 meters and consists of two streams of water due to mining activities in the past. The falls have been declared a national monument, along with the indigenous vegetation below it.

Beautiful waterfalls, easily accessible, just takes 5 minutes walking from the parking area. The viewpoint is not optimum, especially due to the tall iron fence which has been installed. Even so, it is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

The place is great for a quick stop to experience a waterfall, there view point is very small and there isn't really much to the place then the waterfall. Great thing is the trail to the view point is not that long and it's very clear and well maintained. Loved the place, it was drizzling and cloudy on the day as well the sound of the waterfall and the mist at the bottom was amazing.

Also a beautifull waterfall especiallt this time of year. R 15.00 per person above 6 years of age is very expensive considering your are just going to view a waterfall and then move on to the next one.

The viewing section is tiny. Unfortunately if it's crowded you won't be able to actually take some time to enjoy the waterfall (also there are no chairs). There's a ton of people constantly coming in and out of a small viewing space. Definitely more of 10 minute excursion than a day or even morning outing so don't expect to spend more than 30min on the premises. Absolutely stunning waterfall, worth the pop in and cost, R30 for 2 people. There's also a market so definitely bring some extra cash to support the local artists.

This sighting of the falls is on government land, entrance is R20 per person. There are a couple of stalls from the locals selling arts and crafts. Then you walk along a path on top of the mountain with a couple of view points of the canyon and eventually the falls at the end of the path.

There are a number of must see, beautiful waterfalls on the Panorama Route, but for me, Mac Mac Falls is the most spectacular. It is a sight to behold. Even the fence at the viewpoint which makes an unobstructed view of the waterfall impossible didn't detract from how truly beautiful this sight it.
I visited twice, as the first time it was overcast, and on both occasions there were no queues to get in a and very view visitors (maybe I was just lucky though). The stalls at the car park where locals sell their goods also stock a number of nice items. A definite must if you are in the area.

Very beautiful sight to see, not quite what we expected tough - we paid R20 per person to go through the gate, they have a few stalls there with paintings and a few african traditional items for sale. We did a little walk along the trail over some rocky walk paths all the way down to the viewpoint for the waterfall. The paths are covered in rocks, please wear comfy walking shoes when you come here. We could see a bit of the gorge also along the pathway. The viewpoint has pallesades which you can look through at the waterfall. We turned around and followed another path that leads a bit upward and reached the main road... you could actually enter the premesis from there also, instead of paying to park to park at the parkinglot by the stalls. We made a turn at their public restrooms and saw another walkway. We went and had a look at it, but we had to climb ontop of massive rocks and could see the valley from there, but no trail, so we climbed back down and walked back to the parking. We are glad we made the stop to go see this waterfall.
