After a pretty intense uphill walk for a regular walker the summit offers a great view of the surrounds and ocean. After regaining my breath it was certainly worth the effort.

Long hike to the top - it says 20 minutes but it took a little longer. There are some steep sections of track and gravel so can be slippery, especially on the way down. Take some water and good shoes to make it easier and more enjoyable. Great views from the top

Nice 20 minutes hike, spectacular view of the Nelson city and Tasman bay. No water or toilet at the summit so be prepared.

Nice walk(s) great park to spend a few hours. Clean, well maintained paths and plenty of parking even on busy days. The hill is easy to walk, but bring a bottle with you on hot days. It's more the just a 10 minute hill.... The monument has a great view of the bay, town and surrounds. The reason (centre of NZ) of the monument is up for debate... And not a supper must to visit, but if you want 30 minutes of Nelson on a few days South island trip, it is worth getting to see the town quick... Also great information on the natural sea wall. During our walk a big group of students just did the walk, but fairly quiet on the track. Also saw plants of dogs!.

The trail just takes you about 20 minutes, it’s not steep, it’s worthy after you reached the top of the mountain and have a nice view!

Nice view at the top! It did take me 20 minutes, and was challenging but do-able as someone who isn’t used to elevation/hiking. FYI there aren’t any benches until the last 5 minutes or so. There is seating all the way at the top. There were also signs for lots of other trails/gardens ~45 minutes farther along the way, so you could make a day out of it if you wanted to see more!

It is a beautiful place with a stunning panoramic. After only a short walk, you will reach the monument.

Spend around 25 minutes to reach the top! It was an amazing lookout point in Nelson 😍. However, we took the wrong way on our return, spending more time getting back to the car park 😂.

A brisk 15-mins hīkoi up the Maunga leads to a beautiful view of the city. Appreciated that council had kōrero on Kereope (Boulder Bank) displayed. Dog friendly, picnic friendly, whānau friendly. The paths around the motu all link up into this park and walk so that’s handy as well.

Stunning views of Nelson City leading to and at the Centre of New Zealand. This track has other tracks leading to different parks around the monument.

Loved this place but was disappointed that the shops in the park were not open (Cafe and a couple of others). I definitely would allow no less than 2 hours to explore as there is so much to see! And I was skeptical about it thinking there's no way it would take long haha. Train ride was neat too, the people were lovely

Very quiet and not much of anything to do - besides of course looking at the displays and the buildings. Cool things to see if you like history but wasn’t very interactive and a lot was closed. Definitely not worth the price. It has potential to be fun if there were real people in the shops all dressed up, things to buy (like in the general store having old candy, drinks, toys, whatever). The cafe was pumping and the playground is good for older kids. The rail cart/train costs extra which was disappointing as it’s the only interactive thing and you already pay to get into the park. The grounds (gardens and even the displays) were also not very tidy.

Really cool spot, I went foe the Illuminate show. Was an awesome set up and I'm intrigued to go back and check it out when it's running normally

Wonderful place to explore. Can spend a few hours there. Unless there's an event on its usual free entry for locals or people going to the cafe. Lots of things to check out - heritage buildings and vehicles. If you've got kids its nice to sit outdoor at the cafe and enjoy lunch next to the playground to keep an eye on them. Buy tickets for the short train ride. It goes back and forth each way on two tracks and they have to change the end the locomotive is on each direction so it take a bit of time, maybe was an hour.

Good place to look around, mix match of eveything for eveyone. Allow a few hours if you're going to read most signs. The cafe is only open some days which was a disappointment.

AMAZING. This is a must visit if you ever visit Nelson. Ride the train with the young ones. Grab a bite break at the caffee. Walk around the old buildings, cars, plane and enjoy the kids play ground.

We did not exactly know what to expect but this museum about the history of the Nelson area is really nice. An outdoor museum with a station and an plane and many other cool things to see. Top.

very impressed with what has been done. Impressive displays of vehicles in particular. Sadly railway only operates on weekend. Would be great to see more businesses working from here.

Loved this little village. Lots of buildings were closed which was a shame but the ones that were open were great. Enjoyable and well maintained

The Founders Heritage Park is a gem in Nelson's crown. My expectations were low considering entry was only eleven or so dollars. However it soon became clear how historically significant and visually pleasing the buildings were. Hundreds of items in the stores made me feel like I was in Back To The Future III. The amount of ships in bottles was astounding. I wish I only knew to bring some gold coins to operate the model trains in the train carriage.

This is a great cheap day out. About $11 per adult. I particularly enjoyed the beer & hop museum, some fascinating history in this area! Well worth a visit if you have time to spare. The on-site cafe is fantastic too.

An okay place to visit if you do not have a better option. You get to know about some heritage houses that, I believe, were lifted and shifted from different places around Nelson. It provides historical information about Nelson and has some fun places for kids.

Although the park has its highlights, it tends to present facts about things and places, rather than stories about people. The volunteer behind the counter wasn't exactly singing the praises of the park, or Nelson in general. "We don't really have much of anything" she confided. One unintended upside of the park are the hilariously awful mannequins used in the railway displays. I’m laughing out loud at how weirdly inappropriate they are, often child or female noggins with mustaches stuck on them. We have “Baby Head”, “Aloof New Wave Model”, “Painted-on Sideburns”, and “Weekend at Bernie's Corpse Face.”

Shame the church doesnt trust God's intelligent immune system, yet promotes Satan's tree of knowledge- genetic engineering of the human body. Unfortunately this was a big mistake and a betrayal of the Christian community. I fear for the young and the unborn...so tragic!

A beautiful site, no service was on when I visited so it was very quiet. Prayer candles are provided and calm music plays in the church. The windows and decor were exquisite.

Absoloutly amazing A must do in Nelson This incredibly well built European settler Church must be seen inside and out. led Glass windows are incredible.

Beautiful. Was fortunate enough ro play here with my niece. Amazing acoustics and incredible atmosphere. Great place to bring friends from out of town visit. Beautiful interior and open to the public almost always. Church services are frequently broadcast on Shine TV. A bit traditional, but that is to be expected. Not sure what normal services are like apart from what they show on tv. Music is awesome with the organ.

I'm not one to go on about churches but it was awesome on the outside . Small parking area up top in front of the church . CleanToilets, donations accepted.

Not to be confused with Christchurch cathedral in Christchurch, The Christ church cathedral in Nelson holds its own history. Nelson being a city is because of a single chair. The principa chair means that it has a seat for the bishop. Which meant that this building can be a cathedral, which means that a town can be a city! Fun fact a? The architecture and stained glass windows are breathtaking, and the peaceful gardens outside make for a lovely place to relax.

Attended a funeral here, it was a beautiful calm meditative space. The cathedral was well heated, has a state of art sound and digital system to live stream the service, I was impressed. Toilets are clean and accessible and gardens well maintained. On what was a sad day for us, the cathedral was a comfortable place for us to gather. Thank you to the Dean for your gracious welcome in Te Reo Māori and hosting our whănau.

Grand and Majestic!!! It’s one of the must-visit places in Nelson. They allow guests to take a tour inside and there is a full description of everything that you see inside the cathedral. The front view is picture-perfect whilst the rear view or the one from Trafalgar Square is equally breath-taking! Highly recommended!

This place is amazing. The park is so beautiful! You can take some really cool pictures on the steps up to the church. The trees are huge! And the plants are very exotic looking (at least for someone from Europe) and cery beautiful. In the church there are some beautiful glass windows and it's definitely worth seeing.

Fun Saturday market with lots of local producers/makers and food carts. Bring an appetite, there is lots of different food to try. Great for browsing different crafts etc. and talk to the people making them. Parking can be a bit challenging, and lots of vendors only accept cash so withdraw money before you come in so you don't have to queue at the ATM.

Great spot to spend a Saturday morning. Beautiful fresh produce, great handcrafted art, jewelery pottery and a lot more. Plenty of food options and coffee carts. Gets very busy and a great atmosphere

The Nelson Market is the biggest and most eclectic market of the Nelson/Tasman region. It has a variety of food and artisan stalls. The market is a great place to meet friends and make new ones. I highly recommend attending it, at least once, whilst you are in Nelson City. The market is being held at Montgomery Square every Saturdays from 8am to 1pm. Enjoy it!

My flat white from the coffee stand was delicious! The rest of the market compromised of small collectables/garage sale type set ups on a very cold Sunday morning in July.

Great market…. Lots of shops, variety, food options. Very clean and tidy with parking around and toilets too! Must visit while in Nelson. Highlights were the Mixed Roots spices and What’Gchocchi

We had heard about this iconic market and so made an effort to visit. We had a lovely stroll in the sun chatting with locals, eating and buying some local crafts. There was a nice mix of items for sale including different ethnic food outlets. There was a interesting cart selling NZ kai which included their own health based drink which we tried and very nice it was. They seemed quite innovative with what they are doing. As I am part Dutch I got lured by the familiar smells of the Dutch food cart and did try the Dutch donut which was delicious. They did tell me their filtered coffee was the best and I would not go back to drinking espresso- sorry, it wasn't the best and I definitely will continue to drink espresso coffee. We came across a lovely NZ merino store, and a ceramic stand (Clay Art) where I had a bit of a spend up on crosses which I collect. She had lots of lovely modern designs and colours. I was expecting more NZ made clothing- there was a bit of imported clothing, but overall the feeling of the market was lovely. Would have liked it more if they closed a little later. I love local markets and would definitely visit again.

Always great. Changes every time we are there. Go the Vanuatuan fruit pickers with their guitars, drums and extraordinary voices and OMG those smiles. Wow. AND the lady who danced. Produce very good. Lovely to see the variety of crafters and quality.

I have been to markets around the world and Nelson knows how to do markets. Friendly atmosphere. Great music. Delicious food. Beautiful people from everywhere. I absolutely loved visiting here on a Saturday morning.

What a fantastic market!! So many beautiful handmade goods and fresh produce! Delicious hot food vendors too. The only thing I couldn't find was a bakery but I'll be on the lookout next time.

I was impressed with this market, even in the winter it has quite a few vendors out! (About 3-4 rows) Some food trucks, produce, soaps, pottery, jewellery, art, There’s a vendor who sells pebble jewellery ( Earth and Sea Jewellery) which was so unique and beautiful! Locally sourced pebbles as well! Also

Great place in Nelson for cheap, fresh produce and a lot of handmade local artisan goods. May be a bit hard to find parking but great if you’re getting there on foot. The stalls are shutting down by 12:30 so make sure you get your food before then.

Great options for food produce and handmade gifts/foods. Really good vibes. My husband got the hangi for $20 and I got the whitebait fritter for $16. Then we got some pastries for $6.50 each. A few other stalls had pastries for a bit more money. Not enough seating for eating.

Yeah love this spot always look for the hand made sausages in a bun, yum yum yummy. A bit packed with all the visitors including us and seemed to have less interesting stalls. Excellent for fresh produce and a variety of food Stalls.

Armed with my list I go to the market early Saturday mornings and stock up for the week with all the seasonal fruit and veggies. It's always there come rain or shine. There's a huge selection to choose from each time and it's lovely to chat to the stall holders. Then it's time for a choice of something snackie or international food and a yummy coffee before trekking off home.

Nice market to eat and browse in Nelson, plenty of food and snack options to eat on the spot. Tried the Bacon station burger which was great with the soft brioche bun.

One of the best markets we've visited so far! Everything you need from sculptures, clothing, food, and fresh produce. Great artisan traders, fair prices, and well spaced out. We will be back for sure!

Beautiful garden. So many different varieties of exotic plants. Lovely walk and kids enjoyed it too especially seeing the different types of ducks.

The queens Botanical Gardens are wonderful. As soon as you walk in off the street, the temperature drops 10c, which was perfect on the January summer's day I visited. With a great variety of beautiful old trees and flowers, this place is special. There's a number of large ponds, these Gardens are so peaceful, you could easily forget where you are. The tiles or pebbles in the Chinese garden are very interesting. This place is free and a must visit if you're in Nelson.

Love it! Very calming. Love the plants, trees, animal life and the Chinese Garden.

Peaceful area for strolling, picnics, or just sitting and relaxing. There are bench seats scattered throughout the gardens and some tables too. The Huangshi Chinese garden area is a lovely spot for quiet sitting and photos. Great for families. Well established trees with plenty of shade. The Suter Gallery cafe is easily accessable from Bridge Street (Through Suter Gallery) or take the path from the gardens. Wildlife - there's plenty of Mallard and Muscovy ducks throughout the wet areas, and Weka stroll through the bush too. Great for a family visit and a place to relax at lunchtime.

The gardens here are really nice!! Especially if you stop at the art gallery/cafe as well. Not too long to walk around them 15-30 minutes depending how long you spend looking around. Lots of ducks in the area too

Lovely oasis in the middle of town. Interesting walking paths and well maintained. So glad we visited.

We went to visit the Art Gallery to enjoy the artwork of Cathy Jones, a local artist whom my wife met recently. This is some of her work. Her prices are very reasonable...enjoy!!😁👌

Best gardens in Nelson! The gardeners take such pride in their beautiful work! It's a true pleasure to enjoy nature there! Lots of bridges and little Japanese area. The water wheel is beautiful when flowing and lots of gorgeous areas to relax and be at one in the now 😍

Lots of beautiful and big trees, no rose at the rose garden at the moment because they are doing the make over. But still very beautiful garden to visit. I am amazed at the Bunya-bunya tree and the Dawn Redwood

A well laid out formal garden with a mix of landscaping. Big trees and a nice example of a Chinese scholars garden with some lovely features incorporating water and reflection.

This very beautiful and tranquil garden is a haven. Wonderful plantings, sculptures, and walkways with carefully placed interesting and delightful plants. Even some geese that were keen to see what I was interested in. In my opinion, it is well worth a visit.

Very quaint and nice park in the centre of the town. A pleasant unexpected Chinese style pagoda in the gardens, too. I also had a cute encounter with a cat and a duck.

It is a beautiful garden, and every plant is labeled. Perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle from the vibrant city and go for a walk or a picnic.
