Home to the original "Burt Munro Fastest Indian motorcycle" along with other amazing related items from bikes to cars, this shop has everything you can think off. Wandering the aisles and browsing the shelves and seeing what they have is an experience in itself. Certainly, a must-do if your visiting Invercargill.

What a surprise awaits unsuspecting customers. Olde world hardware to top decor pieces. But that is not why we visited ........ this is the home of Burt Munro vehicles and eclectic collection of iconic cars, bikes and machinery. The stands are juxtaposed with goods for sale. We also found a sales assistants with vast knowledge of the displays.

What an awesome piece of history. This isn't just a hardware store, this is a museum of technology. When my host suggested I visit Hayes hardware I had no idea why. I've seen plenty of hardware stores. But I've never seen one like this. This is a must visit if you're in the area of Invercargill New Zealand.

Fantastic! Not just a hardware. Wander through all the old school bikes and take in the history of The Worlds Fastest Indian. Very good walk through and free! Owned by the same family for generations. They have plenty of gear for the home Handyman and trades.

Good hardware store with some extra exhibits. Being able to look at the original shelves holding the offerings to the God of Speed was so interesting. Well worth the visit

Nothing g short of amazing. The mix of artifacts with retail display takes a bit of getting used to. Comprehensive labels and captions give context to exhibits. Not just Bert Munro pieces....there are lathes, tools, lawn mowers, tool displays.

Amazing place, was neat, tidy, a lot on display. The staff were very informative. Seeing the history of some bikes and Burt Monroe was awesome.

Super cool store that is part museum and part everything. I enjoyed all the old displays, Motorcycles, cars and Burt Monro exhibits. Also pretty cool that they sponsor New Zealand's version of the Sturgis bike rally called the Burt Monro Challenge.

Another bucket list ticked on our down south journey. Well worth as much time as you can enjoy there. Especially if you like the Burt Monroe story, regardless though, the history shown in the displays is amazing. And of course there's plenty to purchase whether you are visiting or a local.

They are the best historical keeper's I've seen in my life,such a classic collection of bikes and cars they have got with them and the best part is they have not kept any entry fee,staff is also very very co-operative and helpful.. enjoyed my time here thank you all guys🏁

This is the place to be in Invercargill for anyone who is a fan of vehicles, trucks, vintage cars, and vans. Bill Richardson Transport World is a pretty huge place and the collection of vehicles especially the trucks is splendid! This is the most popular tourist attraction in town. The vehicles displayed looks extremely new and very well taken care and they come in different bright colors. Amazing effort from the management and staff for keeping the place so organized and clean. There is a cafe at the lobby area and the food served was really good, especially the baked salmon. Highly recommended to try the food at this cafe before exploring the many vehicles!

Great collection. A real treat. Entrance fee is probably a bit too high though at 40 dollars. I was speaking to folks locally who would like to go, but can't afford it. Seems a shame. Cafe is good and even though a large group had just arrived, turnaround was quick.

This place is incredible. I suggest doing it in 2 parts with a break in the middle. The cafe is awesome to let you refuel and rest your legs! I want to go back just to take photos!

Huge! This is a must do for any motoring enthusiast. Plenty to see. Good cafe, kids room and a kid play area with lego. So much to look at and appreciate. Parking is easy.

This is a great place to visit for the engine enthusiast. If you're not there are things that you will find interesting like exhibits on McDonalds, Juke Boxes and even a small comfortable cinema with comfortable seats and blankets. There are lots of Fords and trucks but there are also a number of other makes and types of vehicles to cater for those that appreciate the mechanical perfection of the internal combustion engine. There were audio/visual displays that were informative and engaging. For the Gents; you need to check out the toilets in the corner of the main room; when you go in you will understand why this is a special room. A well curated museum with great exhibits.

Stunning! Incredible! I am far from being a "car guy", but this place just had me awestruck! The workmanship and attention to detail shine through in each and every vehicle on display, and the history of the founding family ties it all together. But wait - there's more! There are outstanding collections of restored gas pumps, jukeboxes, fabrics, and various memorabilia. You will be kicking yourself later if you come to this area and fail to visit this attraction. Pro tip: don't leave yourself short of time to visit. We spent about 2.5 hours, and I could easily have spent another couple hours.

It doesn't matter if you love cars or trucks, you will definitely be in awe of how these vehicles and history were preserved and maintained. It sire is a must place to visit in Invercargill. Even the restrooms are pretty.

Such a Fabulous private collection of vintage truck and car collection in Invercargill and must visit place for every one with kids. If Kids get tired, they’ll have a lot of fun in the LEGO room with painting and gaming.They also have a gift shop with variety of books and toys collection and a huge collection of McDonald’s toy collection which kids will love the most. Altogether we had a wonderful experience and the best part is our Kids had a really good time. Make sure to take only memories and leave only footprints.

A truly remarkable experience and astounding collection so well presented. An absolute treasure trove of memorabilia of the transport world. In addition the wearable artworks were a delightful treat and the themed toilets another feature. 💯 percent recommended.

If you are a fan of automobiles - and even if not - you should visit Bill Richardson Transport World if you're in Invercargill. The array of vintage cars, trucks, tractors, buses and even miscellaneous vintage engines, prime movers would blow your mind. This private collection should possibly be one of the largest in the world. Starting with the Ford models that are arranged in chronological order, to the retro ice cream trucks, vehicles used for farming, World War era vehicles, old school buses etc you have pretty much everything a vintage automobile lover would like to see. They even have a number of petrol pumps and other accessories like wheel caps, logos, insignias etc. Every single vehicle is meticulously cleaned, they just shine so nicely! I can see the effort put into maintaining such a large collection of vehicles - which is commendable. They have a good gift shop and a very nice cafe, where the tables are made from dance floor boards. Nice coffee and a decent selection of food and cakes. This is an amazing place and you will marvel at the effort taken to build and maintain a place such as this!

If your heading to Invercargill this place is a must see. So many displays and probably the best in the southern hemisphere. If your a truck guy then your in heaven.

The best motoring museum you'll ever find, huge display of all kinds of vehicles and the standard of the museum is works class. Even the cafe is great.

Not just Trucks! Husband liked the Chips bikes, I liked the tea towels and wearable art.

We did an impromptu visit to Bill Richardson’s Transport World while killing time for our flight. It’s a mammoth warehouse of a building, housing an extensive collection of lovingly restored vehicles; everything from vintage Fords (models A through T) to paddy wagons and pedal cars. Petrolheads must love nerding out here. Unexpectedly, the upper floors have Kiwiana collections such as Wearable Art and a New Zealand tea towel display. I was sorry we couldn’t spend another hour here.

OMG this is an awesome park we just chanced upon it after dinner it was late but its summer so its bright. So many themes within the park and so well taken cared of. They're on aviary (unfortunate closed when we were there) and some animals (fenced). Beautify and the rose garden was spectacular!

Beautiful park, wonderful surrounding. Variety of different gardens including Small Japanese garden. They even have an animal enclosure area and ducks walking freely throughout the park. Plenty of areas to have picnic under the trees or near lakes.

I love Queens park there is so much to see and do. We do a regular wander through the birds and animals to the playground then off to see the ducks . The park is well maintained and typically clean. A great space for events and family outings. Kids love the playground although the water features can be hard work with a toddler to keep out of the water . I really like that the animal park is free to view any time even if they look a bit sad a lot. A must see if you are ever in Invercargill.

Beautiful park, perfect place to spend a few hours on a nice afternoon. It seemed like there was something for everyone, from a frisbee golf course to a real golf course (isn't that dangerous?!) to an exercise track to winter gardens... it goes on and on. The lake is a perfect place for kids to feed a ton of ducks, but keep in mind that bread isn't great for them - try frozen peas instead! Even with everything going on, there were lots of quiet, peaceful corners perfect for a relaxed picnic in the heart of the city.

This park is AMAZING! We spent the afternoon here and the kids had a blast at the playground, aviary and animal sanctuary. Next time we will be back with our bikes and scooters.

This is my favourite park ever. Such amazing grounds. Gorgeous Hoyas in the hot house. Amazing duck ponds. Epic kids playground. So many cool birds and animals to see too! So much to explore and experience!

We love this park. It well maintained and has fabulous vista's in all directions. The gardens are beautiful and the playground was great for the granddaughters. We walked the perimeter of the park which took around an hour. I love they have culled the older trees that have reached the end of life and have extensively replanted. It is a tribute to the city.

This garden blows my mind! Roses and fuchsia were in full bloom, but then the aviary and native plant garden was top notch! The cafe has great food after a long wander around the property. I spent a good 3 hours🤩

Pretty awesome, just needed to pass some time and had a walk around and was pleasantly surprised, it had an aviary an animal park, duck pond and the list goes on, beautiful gardens and green perfect grass. Very well done!

Such a great big park with so many different parts of it to enjoy. I would recommend visiting here. There are public toilets around the park, Multiple entries, A kids playground, Duck pond, animal farm area, Avery, cafe, flower garden and more

The Waipapa Point Lighthouse was first lit on 1 January 1884. This was one of the last two wooden lighthouses built in New Zealand. It was constructed in response to one of New Zealand's worst shipping disasters and its worst civilian shipwreck; the wreck of the passenger steamer Tararua on rocky reefs off of Waipapa Point on 29 April 1881. The ship was on one of its regular trips between Otago and Melbourne, via Bluff, when it struck the reef. 131 lives were lost - all but 20 of the 151 people onboard. In 1975 the lighthouse was automated and the keepers withdrawn. The light is monitored remotely from Maritime New Zealand's Wellington office. How old is the earth? Many geologists speculated that the Earth is ancient but couldn't give an actual date. Scottish natural philosopher named James Hutton wrote his revolutionary book Theory of the Earth in 1785. Hutton reasoned that the processes shaping the Earth, such as erosion and sedimentation, occur at an extraordinarily slow rate and have always occurred at this slow rate. Sir Ernest Rutherford, New Zealand's only Nobel prize winner, in 1905, suggested that using radioactive elements with long half-lives, such as uranium, you could determine and work out the ages of rocks and hence the age of the Earth. Curio Bay is of international significance for its Petrified Forest dating back to the Jurassic period. It is estimated that it's 176 million years old! Here at Waipapa Point is a petrified forest! If you look, you will see. So I would estimate it is the same age as at Curio Bay. Buried by volcanic mud flows and now exposed by the erosive power of the sea. At Waipapa Point, sea lions can be observed and from this vantage point you can see Stewart Island.

Loved the short walk to the lighthouse . Toilets available at the Carpark. And a good view of the coast. Dog friendly must be on a leash and pick up after him.

Stunning. SO worth it. Check this and Slope Points End out at the same time if you're coming down to the area. Amazing experience, one of my favourite spots in all of New Zealand.

Great little place with a lighthouse. Short walk from the car park but multiple viewpoints of the lighthouse. You even got a chance to see some sea lions on the beach

It's a beautiful little place. I had planed to stop there only for 10-15 mins on my drive to christchurch but we ended up staying for more thar one our. Lots of opportunities to take nice photos and we saw a wild seal 🦭 .

Worth a drive out to the light house if you don't have too much planned. Beautiful sandy beach with additional rock pools to explore which provided entertainment for our little one. Seal was sunning itself on the sand too which was cool to see.

No a breath of wind when we got there on dusk, super quiet, only sound was the waves below. Great place to be still and listen to nature. Go here on the right night to get an amazing view of the southern aurora.

Nice view point and walk on the beach. Be gentle and stay away from sea lions. We had lunch there and continued our way.

It's a windy but beautiful location. There were no sealsthe day we visited but nonetheless it was well worth the drive to see the lighthouse and surrounds.

Short walk from the carpark. Lovely views and a lovely beach nearby. If you're like you can see some sea lions as well.

This was a really neat lighthouse. Great views both north and southwards. Our only complaint was that it had the most disgusting toilet in the region, if not further afar. Given all the toilets at all the scenic sites we had visited, we did not understand why this one was so bad. Bring your own paper and stop elsewhere if possible.

An amazing collection of motorbikes from early 1900's to 1980's. Unbelievable display over 3 levels. A lot of amazing machines. Staff were fantastic, knowledgeable & helpful. Definitely recommend a visit.

If u love bikes u should definitely definitely not miss this place. They have colle tons of bikes from 1990 almost and it's fascinating to see the history and so many cool bikes 🏍

The most incredible collection of motorcycles I have ever seen. You need to spend an entire day looking to really appreciate everything on display.

A world class museum, the collection of bikes is stunning and very well presented. The bikes are not in glass cases or roped off so you can get nice and close and see all the detail. There is also a collection of open wheel race cars in the basement. Lovely staff, beautiful old building and a great cafe on-site. Highly recommend

I didn't know what to expect when we decided to visit but seriously, this place has a wow factor. Beautifully curated and housed in a gorgeous building that has it's own historical story. Absolutely pay a visit and enjoy.

Fantastic museum and displays. Well thought it, well laid out, and plenty of info. If i had a criticism, there were simply not enough Japanese bikes.

Fantastic collection of not only motorcycles. Some relaxed seated video areas too. Stairs between levels may challenge some visitors. There is a lift but not working when I visited. Small souvenir shop area. Well worth a visit for any motorcycle or racing fan.

Great detailed set up and easily read cards. Videos very interesting. Toilet visits are a MUST. Don't want to divulge anymore as would spoil it. Well worth the visit.

Awesome place to go to whether you are into bikes or not. Lots of history and worth a visit- allow at least 1-2hours to fully enjoy what is on offer here to see. And the cafe is very busy so if you are going there make sure its not a quick bite you are after. Great food and service otherwise

Huge collection of bikes, but our favorite was seeing the Britten. My bf was totally geeking out over it. I personally liked some of the original motorcycle advertisements and artwork from the late 1920s.

If you are a Motorcycle enthusiast then this place is for you. An outstanding collection of bikes that includes an amazing array of bikes,race cars, old fuel pumps. What made it enjoyable about this collection was the building in which they are displayed, where it provided perfect environment. A fantastic place with pleasant staff.

Superb museum. Amazing bikes well presented. Give yourself a good few hours, the fascinating film Britten story along is 1.5hrs if you want to take everything in. Great cafe with a very nice vegetarian all day breakfast.

Invercargill is built on almost entirely flat land. A major landmark in Invercargill, is the Water Tower which was built in 1889. It was built to support the city’s first high-pressure water supply tank. It was designed by consulting engineer William Sharp, and built by Matthew and Hugh Mair. Water towers are located on high ground to provide enough pressure to send water into a municipal water supply with enough force to supply all the customers in the  immediate vicinity. It comprises 300,000 bricks and is 42.6 metres high landmark . New Zealand suffered many great fires. In the late 1880s the Invercargill Borough Council decided to build a water tower on part of the green belt. Ratepayers wanted the tower but not an eye-sore on the town belt, architect-engineer William Sharp suggested blunting criticism by disguising the 300,000-litre steel tank with an elaborate brick tower. Earthquakes don't kill but buildings do. The building has been declared a 'earthquake-prone' hazard which constitutes a major risk to public safety and infrastructure. It includes a threat to the continuous operation of the city's main pump station. Both the Water Tower and the control building are category one historic buildings, and at the moment have a rating of 25 percent of the national building standard. The council basically don't want to pay to fix it because it will cost ($) millions to strengthen it. It is ready to fall down in the next big magnitude earthquake. In the last 12 million years the Southern Alps have been uplifted by an amazing 20 kilometres! The Alpine Fault has ruptured four times in the past 900 years.

Easy access to the tower. The view of the tower stands with history of the town. My family had fun taking photos with it. Great weather as well.

While there's no more public access, it is still there in all of its historical glory, especially when lit up at night. Hopefully by "re-opening" this spot as a landmark means people will still find it and come to gaze and sit on the grass in front

I remember it used to a gold coin to enter and go up to walk around the top of the tower. Shame its can't be entered anymore but still a very cool bit of Invercargill history.
