Nice exhibition about the history of Leeuwarden from the 'mounds era' and a detailed audio tour (the audio tour is also available in English)
Bonus: free warm drinks 😉

I never really knew what to expect from the Historical Centre Leeuwarden, but thought I'd just go and have a look for myself. At the moment there's and exhibition of old and new painted cityscapes of Leeuwarden. As someone who likes to discover a little about the history of the place I live it I found it very intriguing to see these familiar streets in different times. There's also a lot of other history of Friesland and Leeuwarden on display or available for research. Oh, and it's free too! 😁

Best Dutch city ever. Super interesting history, unique architecture, canals, all in one city which is much calmer than Amsterdam. There is even an ANWB outlet for shoppoholics.

Great exhibitions with lovely people you can also get an audio guide in English

Real nice authentic place. Shops, restaurants and great architecture.
The Fries Museum showcases temporary exhibitions and a permanent collection of artifacts related to the 11 cities of Friesland and its people. It provides insight into the history and culture of this region. The museum boasts impressive architecture, with a noteworthy wall behind the reception covered by wool created by a local artist. Despite not being very large, visitors can explore it in just a few hours. Some rooms feature video projections that create unique and captivating atmospheres successfully.
We went to go see an exhibition on the Frisian people in the middle ages.
A marvelous collection of things related to the era and very interesting and on top of that real interactive..
Definitely worth going to..

They have a very special painting by Rembrandt on display now and it is presented there in the worst possible way! In a tiny room with a constantly openning door right opposite the painting that is protected by special glass. ALL the light through the open door gets reflected in the glass and you literally cannot see half of the painting. I am appalled by such unprofessionalism.
Helene Royal — Google review
We went in using our national museum card. I was impressed by the size of the museum.
There is anniversaries collection and when we were there the was an exposition on the Second World War.
Lots to see some unliked and some I did not but you can’t please everyone.
Rico S. — Google review
Liked the style of the museum, it’s got a very modern feel. The art was interesting as well. There was an Esher exhibition, which I loved. Unfortunately the tour felt very hasty, and we didn’t really get to appreciate the art enough in my opinion. I liked the black and white room, where everything inside was black, white or some variant of grey. Felt very surreal. This is a COLOUR photo of the room.
Noah Summer — Google review
It’s a nice museum mostly about the history of Friesland, if you want to know more about the Frisian culture I will recommend this museum.
The building has nice architecture and please pay attention to the wall behind the reception which is covered by wol by an local artist!
The museum is not that big you can visit it in a few hours. In some of the salons they used video projection to create different and special atmosphere which is done successfully!

The museum is a nice modern new building with lots of open spaces. Everything was clear and nicely layed-out. The expositions didn’t meet my expectations. I experienced both Frisian Resistance Museum and the A La Campagne expostion quite small. I found myself out the door within a hour or so, which is very fast for me.

I enjoyed the museum a lot - there are several floors in the museum, with different 'topics' and artefacts. The top floor seemed a bit inconsistent with the theme of the museum with its historical pieces, but I still really enjoyed it. Learned a lot of new things about Friesland history.

Have been twice:
1. Mata Hari exhibition didn’t like, because looked like all information from Wikipedia & nothing more.
2. Yesterday visited Escher. It’s great and amazing. Really impressed to see his masterpieces! Also nice room where you can be in artist’s workspace, nice activities there!
Very nice & friendly staff!
Unfortunately, forbidden to shoot even on the phone, it’s very pity
The Oldehove is a Gothic bell tower constructed in the 1500s, which is renowned for its unfinished and off-kilter architecture. Although it is open to the public, visitors need to book tickets in advance due to COVID restrictions. The tower offers stunning views of the city and has been a prominent feature since medieval times. Skykiss provides refreshments at the site, making it a pleasant place to visit if you're in the area.
Taking a walk back in time was so interesting. This was a good visit with easy access from the underground parking. Heard the bells chime and had the children ring the bell in the foyer. Thanks to the staff for that special privilege.
Views from the top are splendid. Saw the set up for an event in the area in front of the tower. Appreciated the lift on the way down! The staff were friendly and very helpful. They had lots of knowledge and could answer our myriad of questions.

Beautiful view of the city. Due to covid situation you need to book your slot prior to visit. Tickets are available at the entry

Awesome place in really lovely city / country area. This tower is tilted in the almost same angle as the Pisa Tower. Climbing the stairs is interesting experience ;) btw it is really easy to find the parking lots in near area. Close to the tower is also really nice park and the city centre is nearby.

This must have been one of the weirdest experiences in my life! After only a few seconds climbing up the stairwell I started feeling dizzy and wobbly. At the top it took me a few moments to find my bearings but the view was really nice. Well worth it.

Its More Tilted than Leaning Tower of Pisa. the view is awesome from the top . we took the stairs. You will definitely experince the tiltedness of the building . Its in city center . you can go by lift to certain height. also some holographic presentation was given .The Oldehove is a leaning and unfinished church tower in the medieval centre of the Dutch city of Leeuwarden. Oldehove is also the name of an artificial mound on which in the late 9th century a church dedicated to Saint Vitus was built. Children up to and including 12 years: € 1.50 pp
Young people from 13 to 17 years old € 2.50,
Students (with student card): € 2.50 pp
Adults: € 3.50 pp
Sunand Sharrma — Google review
We visited this place with a ticket to reach at the top. View from top is good. There is lift option for one portion of height. Other than that you have to take stairs. Building also has some presentations which is in Dutch about the building. While taking stairs you can feel the tiltedness of the building.
Prashant Choudhari — Google review
I wish I could have gone up to see but unfortunately it was closed at the time of my visit, so I had to settle for taking some photos outside and admiring the leaning architecture. My understanding is that the Oldehove has been around since the medieval ages of the city. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

A beautiful building. Even more beutiful from the inside and the view from the top was amazing! Truly this is the "Pisa Tower" of Leeuwarden! I was here last year but time to go back again!

Interesting place with many artefacts, pictures and subjects. Half of the museum is dedicated to naval history and the other half to life of the people in
Friesland (skating, architecture, fashion). Children appreciated the special room for kids, how the pulleys work or how difficult is to pull a ship. Some drawings are available. And we ended up with gratis cup of coffee / tea.

This is a wonderful museum and is a must for visitors to Sneek. Definitely recommended.
David Owen — Google review
An interesting museum, especially (obviously) of you're interested in ships and/or the nautic world. The museum is concentrated on traditional Frysian ships. It's also much bigger then I expected it to be.
The service is splendid. They warmed my formula for my baby. And the first cup of tea/coffee is free of charge in the small restaurant. They don't sell lunch, but the museum is located right in the centre of Sneek.
The museum is wheelchair / pram accessible. There's also a wonderful, spacious section for children. They will have a blast trying things out and learning at the same time. I will return here when my kid is old enough.
Colorful plant nurseries, exotic birds, lemurs & guided tours through landscapes of jungle flora.
Such a beautiful experience. I have never been to a place like this. From the tropical landscape to the colorful butterflies and the excited Flamingos, I had a unforgettable experience. You also get to feed the catfish in the pond and the parakeets in their habitat for a small donation. The staff are very friendly and the place was well kept. Would highly recommend a visit here if you are visiting The Netherlands!

Tip 1: Buy tickets online to avoid waiting.
Tip 2: Pack an extra set of clothes for kids. After playing at the water area they will need it. Lots of play areas.
Tip 3: Wear comfortable sneakers with good grip. Footpaths and rocks can be slippery from dew and water.
Tip 4: Go early cos there is a lot to see and time flies in there.
Tip 5: Get ready to take pics cos there is beauty all around you in there.
Tip 6: Get coins for feed. You can feed the fishes at different areas, the birds at particular areas, flamingos, etc...fun for both kids and parents.

Amazing place for a family with kids. Many playground areas, animals and several food court. Definitely worth the price. The ticket is for whole day, you can go out and come back. Huge parking lot.
Tip for parents with small kids: take extra clothes if you plan allow you kids to play in the playground with water and sand. Close to lunch time place gets busy, so come a bit earlier.

Such an awesome experience! The park was nice and arranged to mimic the environment. Was so great to see those huge butterflies fly by, the koi fish, to feed the parrots that would land on your hand. Loved the flamingos too! Would definitely go back for another tour of this place.

I will not even try to list all the things that we liked… Everything was extremely well taken care of and looked great! The parrots, toucans and butterflies were our highlights.
The restaurants, the clean restrooms and the shop with super pretty decorations and plants are also worth to mention. So glad we made the visit and would definitely recommend it to everyone!!

Lovely park to escape from the cold and dark winter. Lots of beautiful and charming flowers blossom around. Very well organised, thematically arranged spaces for inspiration, also you can find useful educational information. Friendly and polite staff ready to help with advice. Not to forget to mention nice animals around the park as monkeys, butterflies, flamingos, parrots and more. Definitely would come back ❤️

The park is a pretty nice place to spend about 2 hours. Theres a large collection of flowers and the tropical flowers and plants region is created and maintained beautifully. The Lori bird enclosure is a real pleasure to experience. We have the opportunity to be with and feed the birds as they sit on your hands and fly around us. The place also has a collection of Llama’s, flamingos, lemurs and Fish.

The Orchideeën Hoeve is an extraordinary place that certainly attracts nature lovers and enthusiasts of exotic plants. It is a massive greenhouse filled with beautiful orchid flowers, animals, and tropical plants.
While strolling through the Orchideeën Hoeve, you can admire the diversity of colors and shapes of orchid flowers. It's a true paradise for orchid enthusiasts. Moreover, this place offers many other attractions such as a fish pond, exotic birds, and a jungle garden with exotic trees and plants.
However, Orchideeën Hoeve is not just a place for botany enthusiasts. For families with children, there are plenty of activities, including a playground, a mini zoo, and the opportunity to feed the fish. It's a great destination for a family day out.
Piotr Bulanda (Artherkon) — Google review
Orchideeën Hoeve pleasantly surprised us. It is a botanical garden that focuses on orchids and other tropical plants.
It is situated on a large area and offers a variety of natural attractions, including beautiful flowers, plants, animals, fish, and birds. Parking is free for all visitors. The park has recreated different landscapes to showcase different types of flora and fauna.
The park has clear and interesting descriptions in Dutch, German, and English. There are also various boutiques that sell a variety of products, including flowers, plants, seeds, jewelry, souvenirs, clothing, and more.
The restaurant is large, clean, and has a lovely view of the flowers and stunning landscape. The food offerings are also satisfactory.
Overall, Orchideeën Hoeve is a perfect destination for a day out for young and old. It is a great place to connect with nature and expose your children to the natural world.

I been here for a date with my partner, it is such a beautiful place with a friendly birdies walking through the walkaway 🥰 i love the nature vibes, some places is cold and some are warm or hot it depends on the different kind of animal breed. Oh yes and the CAFE is so beautiful and instagram able place!

It’s nice to see all those orchids and the animals in this beautiful piece of Holland!
In between all the fields of tulips, you can visit Pantropica with all of it’s beautiful nature.
Lesley van Gendt — Google review
The place recreates, tropical forests and houses huge collection of orchids and other tropical plants and flowers. It has running streams with koi carps and turtles. Tiny monkeys and tropical birds could be seen clos, and much more... There is a garderobe, but it may be full. Keep in mind that the temperature in the green house is hot, so plan to dress lightly. You can feed animals and fish but the food should be bought from dispenser inside. There are several cafes and restaurants inside. The place is very popular so it may be crowded on school holidays. Reserve several hours or half a day for the visit. There is a good shop where you can purchase some of orchids and plants that you seen. Parking is big and free.

This is a great spot to book tickets for a ferry to Terschelling Island at reasonable rates. You can get a round trip ferry with bikes included for about €30 per person. We enjoyed the trip of our life and the ferry was more like a cruise liner with food and drink on board as well as a wonderful deck to view the Waddenzee. Touring the island for a day was an incredible experience thanks to Rederij Doeksen.

Steam-driven pumping station that is still in use, with a visitor center & guided tours available.
Online reservation was not really needed in advance (the lady was even surprised it existed). So, this is a very nice area with a shop, interactive museum at the newly built visitor center, panoramic cafe, cinema room, and of course the magnificent and shiny steam station itself. It takes around 30-40 minutes co completely explore the exposition with the movies in the visitor center on yourself + 50-60 minutes to explore the station itself with the guide tour (only guided is allowed to enter). There was a person available (they are volunteers, not paid) to guide me in English almost immediately when I arrived, but it was a slow day. 9 eur ticket all included.
Surprisingly striking place given its historical importance, and would be interesting for visitors of any background.

No wonder this technical wonder is on the UNESCO list! 100 years young, from coal- to diesel- to McDonalds recycled grease-fired, and still in it's prime! Still able to assist in the water management of the Northern provinces. Warmly recommended.

Building top, location top, conservation of equipment top, technicalities of the site top.
Pity for foreign visitor to be held literally prisoner of the volunteer tour guide. 30 min locked in a canteen prior to the tour start, then 40 min of speech in Dutch prior to set foot into the building. UNESCO site would call for a bit more international mindset.

Even though I like the art, I found the museum boring and the audio guide (used in English) does not give interesting facts, just stories. And no explanation in English on the walls. Not really my thing.

(Translated by Google) Very nice, a must do when you are on the island, you go to the drowning people's house and to the south-western point where you can see Texel in the distance. I had also hoped for a stop at an abandoned, rusted tank on the beach, just to take a photo, I don't know if this is allowed and/or possible, but I would certainly have liked to take a look. That would give an extra dimension to this ride for me because you now also visit places you would normally never visit. But nevertheless, I highly recommend going on the Vliehors Express. I have been to Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog in recent years, but I found Vlieland the most intimate, including the idea that the islanders here embrace tourists the most and include them in their lives. The sailor's choir in the church is also recommended!

Bezoek drenkelingenhuisje is erg leuk. Daarna meest zuidelijke puntje Vlieland met kans om zeehonden te zien. Mag je niet missen.

Dorpsstraat 73, 8899 AD Oost-Vlieland, Netherlands
The Afsluitdijk, also known as the Enclosing Dam, is a 32-kilometer-long elevated road that spans the IJsselmeer bay. It offers scenic lookouts and features sculptural works along its length. This impressive engineering feat separates the Wadden Sea from the IJsselmeer, creating an artificial lake. As you drive along this dike, you'll have views of the North Sea on one side and the IJsselmeer on the other.
The Zuiderzeemuseum is a museum showcasing the sea-based economy, ships and ways of life in the area. It consists of two sections, an indoor Binnenmuseum dedicated to farming, fishing and shipping, and an outdoor Buitenmuseum with over 130 rebuilt dwellings and workshops. Visitors are encouraged to park at a designated car park off the N302 and take a ferry (included in admission) every 15 minutes from April to October to get to the museum.
Enjoyed a great day here! Caught the ferry first and then dropped us off at the outdoor museum. Everything is well sign posted in English, Dutch and German. Lots of fun things to do and the cafe was great. Great way to learn about the history of the region.

Is a very nice place, just like jump into 100 years ago fish village. The indoor museum is full of knowledge about this area and the outdoor museum just amazing. I spent 4 hours there and didn’t finish it just too big. But the traditional lunch set they sell on the website is 2 sandwiches and 1 bread with 1 banana and 1 apple juice, quantity and quaility is nice but I recommend just buy food when you arrive the restaurant

I can't say enough about this place,as it is one of the best museums in Holland. The history of the fisherman of the north and how they built the Great dike. A must see for all visitors to the Netherlands.

We went there by shuttle boat. This round includes a short harbor tour in Enkhuizen. The museum is beautifully designed, there is a lot to see and you can immerse yourself in village life at the end of the 19th century.

Wonderful museum with lots of really enthusiastic volunteers. They are keen to offer information and demonstrations of various styles, jobs and hobbies of the people living in the town during the period. The town is beautifully reconstructed and preserves the history of the country extremely well for us to enjoy. A boat ride to the entrance is also included if you wish. Information is available in Dutch, English and German.

A fantastic huge museum. The indoor part has an audio guide and is very well made. Tells you stuff about fishing villages and how the sea became a lake, a lot of stuff for kids too. The outdoor part is a huge village, might need two days to actually cover it!

Very nice museum, this one is a full day experience, we arrived 11 and left by closing at 17 and we did not have time for the indoor museum , feelt expensive at 18 e online price but was so very well spent ,
pro tip , to save 7euro on parking google for "p+r einhuizen" it is along the station (ignore all roadsigns for museum ) , here you park free for 24 hours , ample with free spaces when we visited , just head down to station building and you see signs for the ferry across the road , the tourist office has ticket ( you need to buy before the boat ) if you did not get them online , ferry was every 20" and is the same as from the pay parking. 5 min walk from car to ferry

Started in the indoor museum where there is a lot to see. The main part of the museum on the upper floor takes you round in a circle. Go to the right to start!
A better part of the museum, presuming good weather, is the outside part further along the road. Lots of dwellings/buildings, like a small town, with descriptions. There are a couple of cafés to stop for coffee/lunch.
You can either walk to the museum or take the ferry back to Enkhuisen, near the railway station.
Tickets in advance (online) are €18/person.

There are inside and outside parts combined into one museum called Zuiderzeemuseum. I found it nice and informative. They both explain more the history of the area including how the lives were like in the past. The ticket price is for both and if you have a museumkaart, it is valid for the museum.

Came there assuming that we went into a museum inside but we're happily surprised that we went on a ferry to an outside little town. It was like going back in time, like the 1900ths.
We were there on the hottest day of the year, 36 degrees Celsius and almost everybody went to the beach 🏖️. So it was nice and quit. I won't tell you too much cause that will spoil your experience 😎 nice people and excellent presentations. We had an perfect day👍🏻😊

Great experience, well arranged, entertaining and informative!
Experience going back in time and seeing how the Dutch life looked like. Have a peek inside the houses, look at the different workshops and "meet" the people.
Parking is available (7eur p/day), you can take a free ferry to the museum. Roam around the town, expect to spend approx 3 hours if you take the time to read and engage.
Pros
- Everything is well arranged
- plenty of parking
- multiple languages for int guests
- easy to explore
Notes
- best experienced on a good day
- dress for wind
- walk from museum to NS is more likely to be 20min (instead of the 10min indicated), but well worth it.
- Enkhuizen city is nice to explore

I love reconstructed villages - they offer inside people lived years ago that you can't gain through reading or museum exhibits. This museum was on par with the swedish Skansa in the care taking together houses from the area and bringing them together and putting them in a realistic environment. The people who play roles in the museum are dedicated and fantastic at what they do. This was a great experience particularly when combined with the train/ship from Hoorn.

Nice representation of what living would be like in the time. A wide range of activities to do while your there ( making rope, a little carnival and other stuff) several farm animals but also a small verity of birds some bigger some smaller. The ferry ride shows you I nice view of the area and an explanation of the stuff around. Several nice shops like cheese food souvenir shops and a restaurant which has good food

An excellent place to visit. The remains of a village in 1600 has been reconstructed with similar other materials brought from various places. Now it is a traditional village nobody lives except commercial establishments. A place must see how they controlled the flood from the see which is below the sea level.

Definitely one of my favorite spots in The Netherlands. As someone who loves family history (and is of Dutch descent), this museum was super informative for all of my questions regarding life in the past, especially for the Dutch because that's where many of my ancestors are from. Nevertheless, the exhibits were fun to explore and the experience of riding the boat there was a fun one! The gift shop was nice and getting to walk around the picturesque city of Enkhuizen afterwards was a treat itself.

A really nice museum in the north of the Netherlands. Try to choose a sunny day. Keep in mind that the museum has 2 sections; an outside and an inside part. Make sure you visit the outside because it is beautiful. You will find boats, fishing nets, artifacts for sailing, windmills and two chimneys. There is even a blacksmith shop which is very nostalgic. Also, there is an old school. Yeah, literally an old school where you will find blackboards, benches, and many other cools stuff that would take you back to 50-60 years ago. The whole city of Enkhuizen is gorgeous with its harbors. After your museum visit, you can lounge at terraces and enjoy your time. Definitely recommend.
Sprookjeswonderland is an amusement park designed for young children, featuring enchanting fairytale-themed rides and attractions. The park brings famous fairy tales to life, allowing visitors to explore scenes such as Sleeping Beauty's bed chamber and a charming gnome village. In addition to the magical settings, there are also activities like a mini train, petting zoo, carousels, beautifully landscaped gardens, and a playground.
Perfect day out for kids ages 3-6 (+-). For older kids it can still be plenty of fun, but then you probably want a little more excitement in terms of rides etc. Size wise perfect as well in my opinion, easily do all in half a day with the kids being tired by then. Price wise, everything is fair to affordable. We never had to wait much longer than 5 min in line for any attraction. Again, 5 star outing.

Once you reach the sixth level, access is made to the outside where you have a 360 degree view of the entire island. It is one of the main destinations in the island of Texel, I recommend it.

This used to be a great place to get a few good bargains, but now it is pretty much just as expensive as buying from normal sales at regular stores.

For the children, there is a lot to try out and learn about in the museum in connection with the water. Unfortunately most of the information is only in Dutch. Admission for adults costs 16 euros, for children 8.50 euros. There was a bit of a signpost missing in the museum, so you feel a bit lost after paying at the checkout. The highlight of the visit was the sailing ship Batavia, which can be walked on. Unfortunately, several craftsmen were on the ship and working there during our visit. This meant that you were somewhat restricted when entering the premises. You could display a little more detail on the ship like barrels, chests, sacks or items of clothing, that would make it a little more authentic. Nevertheless, the visit was very interesting for young and old. If you wish, you can book a scavenger hunt in the museum, but we didn't take advantage of this. A worthwhile visit.

Sehr interessantes Museum.

Very interesting museum. Children don't miss out here either. The kids had fun knocking nails in and weaving a rope. But there was also a lot to see and try out in the second building. Unfortunately only in Dutch. Regardless, it was still great. But the highlight was the Batavia itself! The staff were very friendly. Unfortunately, it is not possible to purchase tickets with cash, either via credit card or online.

Combination of a museum - dedicated to the history of Flevoland in general and Lelystad in particular and a wharf - dedicated to the art and craft of wooden ship building.
A visit inside the life-size replica of the famed Batavia ship is the highlight. Museum cards are accepted, or else ticketed entry is possible.

Very good service.
The ticket to go to Texel costs just 2,50e round trip, for pedestrians.
On the boat, you can have some food, but pay attention that the trip is very short, don't relax too much 😂

Displays on the history of the Royal Netherlands Navy, including real & model vessels plus uniforms.
Great Museum. We really enjoyed the different parts - including 2 actual ships and a submarine. Had never been inside a submarine before - was really fascinating. The history of the navy had great displays in a separate building. All the major educational plaques were in Dutch and English - very easy to understand.

A very nice adventure for kids and adults. Very interactive and kid and family friendly. The staff was very friendly and they explained either in Dutch, German or English. We spent around 3 hours in the 5 different places of the museum. Very nice collection from different time. No dogs allowed (which is normal) and you can book your tickets online. Start your round with the submarine because normally everybody starts on the other side, so you can avoid the crowd as on the submarine rhe entry is very shallow and it takes a bit time. Best gift for a good utility and price ratio: pencil sharpener in 5 or 6 different shape for 6€. Have fun

Large and exciting Navy museum. The high points of the visit were the submarine and the 3d radar system.
The videogames part was not great, but it does not matter. You can play World of Warships at home.

Very nice museum with lots from the origin up to the recent past of the Dutch Navy. Including many inactive games, complete ships to visit and many items from older ships on display.
Parking is free and plenty. For EV's there is no charging on site. But there are chargers nearby in public parking spots.

We had a really great time at the Marine Museum in Den Helder. From the moment we walked in, we knew it was going to be special. The museum is filled with cool stuff about ships and history.
My kids were super excited to be there. They had learned a lot about ships before we came, and they couldn't wait to show off what they knew. It was like having our own tour guides, and I learned a lot from them too.
The museum is pretty big and has lots of things to see, like models of ships and interactive displays. Everything is so detailed and interesting. There's something for everyone, no matter how old you are.
I suggest planning enough time for your visit because there's so much to see. The museum is big, but it's worth taking your time to see everything. Whether you love history or just want a fun family day out, the Marine Museum is a must-visit.
In the end, we had an amazing time at the Marine Museum. The exhibits were informative, and my kids' excitement made it even better. If you're looking for a fun and educational adventure, you won't be disappointed here.

This is one of the best Animal Parks I’ve ever been 🩷 I was a bit hesitant about it when I decided to buy the tickets, but I turned out to be amazed. They have many kinds of animals, all of them are well cared and the staff is very friendly. The lemurs are ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE 🥰 you can also feed the alpacas and some birds… And the best part of it… The whole park feels very natural and safe for them. It’s in the middle of the forest and you barely see concrete and artificial surroundings… I’m definitely coming back 💕🐻🦜🦝🦚🐒

Lovely, natural, calm. Gorgeous place for the animals. Plenty of food, though the poor woman working alone at spa groen deserved a bit of help.

This was amazing! The open areas for the animals is just incredible. The playground for the children is awesome. The demonstrations and feeding of the animals was well done, and brought the animals closer to us. The idea that many of the animals will be rehabilitated grabbed my attention - what a great initiative. The bird show was so well carried Out, and the fact that the birds are not forced to take part was an added bonus for me. Walking through the wooded areas on well kept paths was a pleasure. Well done!

Basically a really nice zoo, and the Katta arps are very trusting and really nice to see how they are interact with the visitors. Negativ, there are no real child entrance prices or a one time family card available - even child's are paying the same 15,50€ as an adult.

After visiting several times in the past years, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’ve never been. Plenty of variety in animals and birds. Everything came across as clean and well kept. Great play area for the kids to explore while adults can enjoy the restaurant. Would happily give this place five stars if only they would make more of an effort with the lion area. Great place to explore with kids if you’ve between two and four hours to fill.

Relaxing zoo. Highlights include the monkey Island and the bird show. Large parking area and the fact that most signs are also in English is a plus.

Brilliant places for kids. Big enough to take your time but not so big you'll all get tired of walking. A large range of birds including many eagles and vultures. Monkey Island where you walk amongst them. Up close and personal with lots of animals. Good sized enclosures with subtle viewing holes for the big cats.

The Rederij Volendam Marken Express is an absolute gem of a maritime experience! From the moment I stepped aboard, I was captivated by the charm and professionalism of this remarkable ferry service.
The journey from Volendam to Marken was a true delight, offering breathtaking views of the serene Dutch countryside and the sparkling waters of the Ijsselmeer. The ship itself was immaculate and comfortable, with spacious seating and large windows that allowed you to fully immerse myself in the picturesque surroundings however we took the open seats on the top where we could feel the breeze and see the birds follow us.
The crew of the Marken Express was not only skilled and attentive but also incredibly friendly and welcoming. Their knowledge of the region and willingness to share stories and insights added a wonderful personal touch to the voyage.
The highlight of the trip was the stop in the quaint village of Marken of course. This picturesque island, with its charming wooden houses and cobbled streets, felt like a step back in time. Exploring the village and savoring some traditional Dutch cuisine at the local eateries made the journey even more memorable. The beautiful people of this village/island are lovely and very welcoming.
Whether you're a tourist or a local looking for a delightful day out, the Rederij Volendam Marken Express is an experience not to be missed. It offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and warm hospitality. I can't recommend this ferry service enough; it truly made my visit to the Netherlands unforgettable!
PRO TIP: Get an iAmsterdam city card and you’ll be able to take this trip (amongst others) for free.

To be fair, a bit dull. It's nice to make a boat trip to a peninsula and see how people used to survive the harsh times then. But it seemed to me more like a commercial trip to keep tourists as long as possible in the city of Volendam.

On Friday I met a skipper on the boat by the name of John, he welcomed me into his wheelhouse and made me feel very welcome. I would class this skipper as an asset to the company he works for, he is very knowledgeable of the history of the country and speaks many different languages, what I thought was very impressive from this young man and I do hope that this fella does get recognised for his work. I enjoyed the boat so well thank you

Museum BroekerVeiling is a historical museum located in the waterlogged area north of Alkmaar. It showcases exhibits and features a 19th-century sail-in auction house, boat tours, and a café. The museum focuses on the history of farmers who tended their crops by rowboat on 1000 small islands in the area. Visitors can tour the auction house where farmers would arrive with boatloads of produce to be bid on by wholesale grocery buyers.
We were pleasantly surprised that the public car park next to the museum was free! The staff is very friendly and there was no problem with us not speaking Dutch. The ticket includes a boat trip and an auction house experience, nicely timed for a coffee in between. The boat trip was fabulous and the guide let me steer the boat for some minutes. Awesome!! The auction experience was huge fun, bidding for fruit & vegetables. We walked around the two animal islands and enjoyed stroking the goats. Highly recommended!!

This delightful open-air museum is a must for those who seek a day out in the open. You have to experience the fresh produce auction where you can wager the best price for your vegetables. I cam here with my grandfather who was born and raised in the 50-60s in Broek op langedijk. Not only was it a very nostalgic moment for him, i was also mesmerized by the stories he told and the things i learned. I finally also visited the museum inside after having visited a few times the outside part of the museum. While I really like seeing the star shaped fortification which you can walk over, get a very good impression of how it was build and why, I thought that the level of the inside museums was a bit lower. Especially if you have to pay for the ticket. Nice is when you go on a day there is the cannon demonstration.

The Muiderslot castle, located in the outskirts of Amsterdam, is a 13th century moated fortress with stately round towers. The interior can only be seen on guided tours, and it is now the Netherlands' most popular attraction. The castle serves as an excellent location for photographs and is home to a museum dedicated to King William's history.
Muiderslot is a well maintained castle. A lot of the rooms and areas are restored to mimic their original condition. They have done a great job at making the tour interesting, interactive and a learning experience for all ages.
Recommend to take the audio tour as you get a nice background story to each of the rooms and space of the castle.
The garden is also nice to walk around on a nice sunny day.

Visited today on a Sunday, it was b busy but not overcrowded and the weather was warm and sunny. I liked this place, entrance of €16.50 a person's a little high to walk the grounds but wife was free as she was in a wheelchair, and as I paid I did do the two walks around the castle so no regrets and will recommend in my tour guides. Parking is a little easy away with a lengthy walk but was nice along the canal and did get to see the bridge rotate to let through a couple big sailing vessels with very tall masts.

A 700-year-old castle with stories about dungeons, tower defenses, armories, incredible feasts, medieval toilets, and more! We parked at the lot at the entrance and paid for 90 minutes, which was exactly the amount of time we needed. See my photo for parking rates.
The self-guided audio tour was very informative. There are some steep, circular stairways in near darkness. Some rooms are empty while others are elaborately decorated. In the Tower Route, don't miss the tower defense area with the interactive game; You'll hear barking dogs and wonder where that's coming from!
The free restrooms are very clean and modern. The cafe area has lockers for your items, a small gift shop, and food and drinks.
The staff is very friendly and informative. Han spent time speaking with us about his fascinating heritage.
Highly recommend a visit here!

Lovely castle, audio tour through the castle take approximately 90 minutes there are 2 tours indoor and outdoor. It is very simple you just follow the your way and play the audio recordings which are scanned with the little machine. Make sure you walk around the castle too there are gardens and tables to sit. Ticket can be purchased at the entrance or online they do accept the cash too. Attaching the pictures for reference. Enjoy 😉

An interesting castles and one of the older ones in the Netherlands. The herb garden is quite pleasant, as are the views of the surrounding area. Like most sites in the Netherlands, it is on the expensive side if you don't have discount. As you would expect with a castle, it has quite a few stairs. Displays are also in English, although they have an audioguide available in various languages

Even though when I went it was pouring with rain, this was a spectacular place to travel to before I took my train back to London. Words will never do this place justice. I explored every inch of the castle from the dungeon to the parapets you can walk through. Incredible must see.

Beautiful castle...a bit smaller than Castle De Haar but the gardens and the view from garden is so beautiful..it reminded of the villa gardens they talk about in old English classics..can visit during summers

Very cool castle! Loved the audio tour and walking the grounds. They also have a decent cafe for lighter treats/coffee etc. Not much of a gift shop but good bathroom amenities
Not too difficult to get to as theres a bus that takes you near there from the station, it only comes once per hour though so account for that.

We walked from our Airbnb at Weesp.
Didn't go into the castle as I feel the entry price of €17.50 each is a little pricey.
Instead we flew our drone on the outside of the castle and captured some fantastic shots.
There was a large tarp in the centre of the castle and lots of bags of landscaping supplies.
I am glad we didn't spend the money on an entry ticket. While we were sitting outside, we say 4 other couples and families walk up to the ticket office and then walk away.

Muiderslot is an impressive castle, and it's great to be able to get such great access to a wide part of it. The audio tour is really informative and well recommended.
Though I would also recommend not visiting in winter as we did, as the cafe for food and drinks is outside, and the gardens aren't nearly as impressive as they would be in full Summer bloom.
That said, it was very quiet so made for a more relaxed visit, so depending on what you'd prefer it may be worth a wander around any time of year.

Muiderslot Castle is a great place to admire a medieval structure and some gardens surrounding the castle. There is a ton of history within and around those walls. We enjoyed walking through the gardens and touring the castle as well. I was surprised just how much of the castle we were allowed to walk through - it really was great. The self-guided audio tour (offered in multiple languages) is helpful as well, offering quite a bit of information regarding the various rooms and spaces you'll walk through. Be aware that there are quite a few stairs to get around to the different floors. We really enjoyed spending a number of hours here, and the rest of the afternoon in the quaint surrounding town.

To be honest a bit underwhelming. I've been to a couple of castles and out all these castles this one is the smallest. There also isn't really that much to see.
If you are in the area I suggest you take a look but don't expect a lot because a lot of room arw either empty or almost empty.
Still a beautiful building on the outside and a rich history that is definitely worth reading about.
Ziggo Dome is a concert venue that can hold up to 17,000 attendees and provides excellent views from almost any seat. The sound quality is exceptional and there are numerous places to purchase drinks within the facility. Despite its large capacity, the venue never feels overcrowded. In addition to its many restaurants, there is also a VIP area offering great food and beverages. Overall, Ziggo Dome offers a top-notch experience for concert-goers with superb organization and amenities.
I’ve been here quite a few times and the impression is always the same: very well organized, wonderful sound (and I’m very picky about it), nice views from almost anywhere. There are many places to get drinks inside and even though the capacity is quite big, it never feels overcrowded.
Recently, I also had a chance to visit a VIP area and have only good things to say about it. Great food, drinks and just pleasant memories.
A great experience overall. Very pleased with this concert hall

A short walk from public transportation, I did it in artificial limbs it not far. Actually, an entire entertainment complex built up there is very impressive.
The venue itself is well laid out and well staffed. You do need to teach the staff that the railings are not there to lean their employees tired and decrepit body on them. The railings are there for those of us who need them to help us to get around.
Prices seem fair, although a fountain drink was a bit highly priced for the size given.
The chairs lack arms, which makes a huge difference standing up. Thankfully, the woman to my right saw my situation and was not upset using the back of her chair for leverage.
Acoustics were great, and the line of sight was good, too, even with a larger person in front of me.

I was first time here in a full house concert, and it was such great experience. Prices are good, and was well organized. Will visit more times for sure!

Ive been here several times over the years and it is a great venue with amazing sound. The location is very central next to the train station. Also several parking garages all around. Drinking prices are very expensive. 7 euros for a beer for example. You can buy food. There are plenty of lockers. Overal great venue. Already looking forward going back in two weeks.

Simply one of the best concert venues in the Netherlands. Great sound, great ambiance and good layout.
Venue is easily accessible by car or by public transport and there are a few bars and restaurants located near the entrance.
Guaranteed nice experience!
Bonus: no long queues when concert is finished. It varies a bit, but in general you are on the highway in less than 30 minutes after a concert has finished.

Came here for the Madonna concert. The Dutch fans don't like to dance and don't seem to like her very much or know any of her songs, they were all standing very still and looking a bit like they weren't sure who she was, which was strange because they had paid to be at her concert. The venue is a very nice space and I would recommend it for big concerts, it is a well run venue and I had a great night.

Overall, I think this is one of the best concert venues once you’re inside. The size is great, the seats are nice, the drinks are affordable. Everything is pleasant. Just getting inside is a nightmare. Instead of having entrances on all four sides, everyone goes in from one side and one big entrance. It was an absolute nightmare!

The best concert hall with the best organising I've ever seen! No confusion, no crowds, everything run so smoothly when we were there for a concert. There are plenty of parking spots around the hall, as well as restaurants and bars, if you want to grab a bite before the event. Incredible!

This is amazing place for concerts and other events. It can handle up to 17000 people. However you don’t have a feeling of being over helmed by the crowd. Many bars, inside and outside the concert area. Highly recommended.

Great place to party. Lots of space to relax and of course the big concert area. Has a lot of bars so there are not to many queues. It also has multiple floors which gives another dimension to the venue. Had a great time there.

It is a very nice arena. When we got to the entrance, there was a huge line, and we thought that it was going to take a lot of time to get inside. But it went very fast. Once inside, you have a lot of options for wardrobe, drinking and eating places. The prices are a bit high but this is to be expected. One beer is around 7 euros. You can easily find your way to your seat because there are signs everywhere. The sound is very good, and you can probably see good on stage from wherever you are seated. I was here for a 50Cent concert.

Went and saw Pearl Jam play. Awesome show as usual, so so good to see Eddie got his voice back in time for us to hear them play as we travel from USA all the way to Amsterdam to see him.
The only really weird thing was all of the people sitting down during the show, and even scolding me for standing up during a rock concert so totally odd.

I was here for Gearbox Pole Position. For Hardstyle Events it was probably the best indoor venue so far in my opinion. The food opinions are a bit limited compared to other venues but that's okay, the existing food options serve their purpose enough.

Our first ever visit to the Ziggo Dome to see Nothing But Thieves in concert was excellent…. What a fantastic, modern and very well organised arena.
Access to and from Amsterdam City both in and out is very good whether that be car or train. The Ziggo Dome is in the middle of a very developed area and immediately next to the Ajax football club stadium hence why the transport links are so good to cope with the volume of people who regularly visit the area.
The Ziggo Dome itself has some excellent facilities inside, much better than found in similar arenas around the world.
The arena has a capacity of circa 17,000 people and even in the seats furthest from the stage I don’t believe they have bad views or too far away to enjoy the performance on stage.
All in all, the Ziggo Dome is a great venue with everything expected of such a modern arena.

Best big concert venue in the city. Absolutely amazing. Their air conditioning system is super good so no one dies in sweat. (Can't speak for the people from the floor but I'd imagine it's just as good). Big fan of the amount of cafés and bars they have, ready to deliver between and during songs. The train station is less than 10 mins away making it extremely easy to get there and back.

Multiple cloakroom locations. Food and drink vendors, a cocktail was about 10 euros which is pretty much the expected price in any bar.

The Spoorweg Museum is a national railway museum located in Utrecht, Netherlands. It houses an extensive collection of artifacts, models, locomotives and steam trains, making it a great place to explore for train enthusiasts of all ages. During Christmas time, the museum is filled with festive markets and shows.
The best railway museum ever. Simulators and rollercoaster is also available here without a surplus. Recommended time for visit is 3-4 hours. You can reach it by train Ticket office is available during the opening hours, offline and online tickets has the same price.

Great museum about the history of the railroad in the Netherlands. The exhibition is extremely large and is ideal for children and adults. I especially liked the historic station building and the various interactive elements. What was great was that I was also able to enter various carriages. Visitors should plan four hours for the exhibition. The on-site team was extremely friendly and helpful. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or in advance online.

An excellent day out. They are renovating the back section at the moment, so the miniature railway ride and freight train simulator experience are both shut, but the rest of the museum was still well worth visiting.
The Steel Monsters exhibit was very well put together.
The day we visited (a weekday in April) was relatively quiet. It was nice that they still put on a train from Utrecht Centraal to the museum even when it isn't overly busy. Great for families!
The kids science sections were a hit, some really thorough explanations on how trains work!

We went to the winter wonderland here and had the best time. Activities included ice skating, a carousel and a family photo! There was also a show on outside. We enjoyed the fresh hot donuts and toasting our own marshmallows.
Highly recommend this place. Staff were friendly too.

We went to this museum with my 5 year old son at the weekend. Access to the museum is really easy, walking distance from Utrecht Centraal train station. If you are coming by car, it has its own parking lot right in front of it. You can use this car park for 9.50 Euros. Museumkaart is valid. Inside, you can find everything about trains. It is also very fun for children because there are some special activities for them. For example, there is a special little train and dresin for them in the children's playground outside. You can take a journey from the first steam train in the Netherlands to the present day. You can also go 200 years ago with a time machine and visit a Dutch town that existed at that time. We spent about 4 hours and I advise you to spend at least half a day here.

what could possibly be a really dull museum os perked by some really fascinating exhibitions. some might be a tad scary for little kids (the Steel Monster ride was a bit scary for this big kid!) but overall a really fun, interactive and tangible look at the history of the railway. Great museum for kids, they absolutely love it. Has a couple of nice attractions as well: virtual reality train driving, a small ride, elevator that brings you to ancient times. The only thing that was disappointing was the actor in the Theatre who clearly did not like kids which he expressed for about three times.

The Utrecht Railway Museum is a gem for both young and old alike. This museum, dedicated to the fascinating world of railways, offers an authentic journey through time with its collection of genuine railway relics.
Whether you're a railway enthusiast or simply looking for a fun and educational family outing, this place is highly recommended.
The museum's exhibits are not only informative but also beautifully curated, providing a rich historical perspective on the development of railways. Also you must visit the activity in 6D of driving a train. It's a great opportunity to explore vintage locomotives, carriages, and even step inside some of them.
The interactive displays and engaging activities make it an ideal destination for children, ensuring they'll have a blast while learning about the history of the railway. Overall, the Utrecht Railway Museum is a must-visit attraction that promises a memorable experience for all ages.

We loved it. The winter station was awesome and there were a lot of activities for kids. The skating rink is awesome with enough space for kids and adults. I highly recommend seeing this museum if you come to Utrecht. We decided to pay a visit as the weather wasn't great and we weren't disappointed at all. It's huge inside with so much to see and do. Super interactive activities for the children and lots facts to be learned. They installed a winter station as it's Christmas so it's a bonus. There were ice rink and eat and drink places. We came after 3pm so only 10 Euro per head to be paid as a discounted fare (but you have to reserve your place online in advance during festive season). Both adults and children would thoroughly enjoy it.

The Dom Tower is a 112m-high church tower in Utrecht that provides stunning views of the city. It is part of a 14th-/15th-century cathedral complex that was destroyed by a freak hurricane in 1674. The tower can be climbed by guided tour only and offers unbeatable city views.
If ever visited Utrecht , don’t miss the place! It’s really worth to discover. Ticket costed 10 Euro with a guide!

It takes an hour to walk top to bottom. The walk up is broken up into stages of 3 or four stops. The guides are very informative and open to questions. It was in Dutch and English on our trip up. The tower is covered in scaffolding due to restoration work that in due to finish sometime in 2024. Still worth it. 12.50€ per person.

Located in the center of the city and being the landmark of Utrecht and the tallest church tower in the Netherlands are enough reasons to want to visit this great tower. It might be tiring to get on top and a little bit clestophobic but the view of the city i totally worthy of them. The guided tour was great and you learn great information about the history of the city and its changes in time.

The landmark of Utrecht! Can’t wait for the maintenance to be completed in 2024 and for the scaffolding to be removed. Still a beautiful site though and a great climb to the top.
Mathew Love — Google review
Climbed it on the 1st of July. First day it reopened after some time. It was my 4th or 5th time that I climbed it. It’s always a nice experience climbing the stairs of the tower and the explanation that the guide gives on the three different levels where you have a short break before reaching the top. But at the end the main attraction is the view from the top. With the construction still going on the view is limited. Be aware of that! But if your main goal is to learn about the history, see it from the inside and having the experience of climbing to the top then you will not be disappointed.
Heriberto Garcia Ribas — Google review
I visited Dom Tower on a Friday afternoon and took the guided tour of the tower. The tour involves climbing up ~460 stairs to reach the top of the tower along with a tour guide and we stop at 4 stages inside the tower. The stairs get narrower as we climb up and it can feel claustrophobic but the view of the city from the top of the tower is breathtaking! It is an amazing experience to see the giant bells of the tower from close quarters. Kudos to the guide for being so well informed; she gave the tour in both English and Dutch and had the answers to all the questions from the group about the history of the tower.
The only con is that the tower is undergoing restoration work till 2024 so the entire tower is obstructed by scaffolding.

A must visit when you explore Utrecht. Even with the construction which prevent you from going all the way to the top, its worth it.
Beware, you will have to climb up the stairs which could be quite challenging and it one of the most fun tour I’ve gotten. You feel feel accomplished by having climbed the tower.
Also, not expensive and quite the experience!

The iconic landmark of Utrecht. Currently it is only possible to enjoy the top of the tower. The full restauration of the tower would be finished in 2025. It is visible from most places in the city and it is the tallest tower of its type in the Netherlands.

A great guided tour brings you to the very top of this landmark. Unfortunately it was rainy and foggy so the spectacular view was limited. 465 steps, no elevator. Not for the faint-hearted.

Tour guide was great at explaining the history of the tower.
Do keep in mind that the view at the top was disappointing due to the current scaffolding (which is only coming down in 2024) if you plan on visiting soon.
Jia Wei Lim — Google review
The tower is under construction until spring 2024. If, ahead of the visit, I'd realised that the scaffolding obstructed the view so badly I would have avoided going all the way up the 460+ stairs it takes to get up to the top and came back when it was all removed.
Would have rated 5 stars otherwise.
That being said, the guide was great, very knowledgeable and gave the tour in both English and Dutch. It was great being in the bell tower and being up close to them.
The stairs on the way up get progressively narrow and claustrophobic on way up and can be exhausting so do bear that in mind too before going up.

Tower is under construction, so the view on the top is terrible.
Stairs to the top are very narrow and claustrophobic.
The tickets should have been discounted, since the view is very limited.
You will be able to explore the canals of Utrecht on a pedal boat ride with Stromma Utrecht Canal Tours, which is an authorized tour company. You will have to pay an admission fee, but this is well worth it as you get to see many beautiful sights while riding on the boats. The ride takes about 90 minutes and you can go at your own pace so that you can enjoy the views and atmosphere of this Dutch city.
It's the second time we've tried to swim, we really like it, the biggest route is very beautiful, you can see everything.
Kristina Mačerauskienė — Google review
The guy working here was friendly and realistic, he was appreciated. However , the boats themselves were filthy, felt like they were going to sink and an absolute chore to ride! Felt like we had done a marathon and the allotted time isn’t enough to relax, you have to pedal the whole time. No clear signage as to the right canal you’re on.
Caïna Verrin — Google review
Nice service with a fair price! The boats however are very uncomfortable and they don't move that efficiently given the power used. It will absolutely take you the 2h they say, so don't think you can go super fast and finish sooner, especially in a sunny day. The view that boat offers is quite unique, especially the first part. In case you are short, you can use your backpack as an extension on the seat to be more comfortable, my girlfriend liked it.

Went to Utrecht for a day out of Amsterdam. As a group of four we almost skipped this canal tour booth until one of us pointed it out.
We each had to then pay an admission fee, but once that was done we were to hop onto a four man pedal boat and explore the canals of this Dutch city.
We were completely blown away with the views and overall friendly atmosphere of the city. The ride takes about 90 minutes but you get to see so much at your own pace and have a fun time doing it.

Very easy and nice way to see the canals in Utrecht. Yes you must pedal yourself but for us this was way better than sitting on a boat packed with other tourists! And cost effective with different canal choices you can make yourself.

This quirky museum features a super fun and extensive collection of self-playing musical instruments, perfect for kids to explore and play with. From music boxes to clocks and even pianolas, there's something for everyone here! The cafe inside the museum is also a great spot to stop by for some refreshments while you spend some time in the museum.
This museum of automated musical devices was a real delight to visit and the (free) guided tour really brought the exhibits to life. Located within a lovely old church, it's a real jewel in the crown of Utrecht and deserves more attention & love from tourists and locals alike.

They did a good job of soundproofing. The doors are heavy, rooms are well insulated, and several of the open spaces are enclosed in clear walls to trap sound. They really outdid themselves. You can enjoy each room without hearing another. The sink in the wc is interesting as well; you must turn it at the nozzle. And yes, the tour and music displays are cool.

What an incredible and interesting museum! The tour was great because it gave us a chance to listen to some of the instruments and get a better understanding of the history behind them. However there is so much more to see all around, so take your time to explore. Our kids loved it too!

Fantastic museum housed in an old church in the heart of Utrecht. Some of the 15th century wall paintings can still be seen. There is a great collection of all types of mechanical music-making devices, such as automatons, pianolas, organs, and clocks etc. The guided tour was excellent and given in both Dutch and English. The Museum Speelklok located in the city centre is definitely worth a visit! I would recommend taking a free guided tour that is offered at half past every hour (these are in Dutch as well as English) - the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and gave us some interesting background information on the self playing musical instruments and played them, which would otherwise not be possible to see. The tour itself does not cover the entire museum, so you will have plenty to explore on your own afterwards as well. I would recommend planning around 2 1/2 hours for the visit. 🎼

Very fun museum! As others mentioned, be sure to take the guided tour (maybe even twice!) to hear a selection of the delicate museum pieces played live - these are musical devices after all! Staff was very polite and the tour was given in multiple languages. Would definitely go again!

Excellent displays and layout, our tour guide was happy to give the tour in English as well as Dutch since he had Dutch patrons as well. He spoke excellent English and explained the displays in an interesting way, and was happy to answer questions. Great variety of displays and all are fascinating in their own way. Great place for English speaking tourists as all the placards and descriptions are in Dutch and English, and there are English audio tour cards. For anyone interested in music, history, and old machinery, a neat destination.

A beautiful museum. I wanted to go for sometime and one days while walking around i entered in with my museum card. I was mesmerised to the big musical instruments and history of place. There are quite some old kloks as well. Some activities for children of how to create instruments are there. There is a guided tour of museum ever 30 to 60min. In this trip a guide comes. They tell the story in dutch and engels and play all big iconic instruments. It has canteen as well. Good 1.5hr activity in center of Uthrecht.

An excellent interactive and historical museum. Be sure to sign up for the guided tour which demonstrates the musical instruments in play.

A lovely museum set in a delightful building.
There is a great presentation of a wide range of automated toys from history but the fairground music machines are stunning and the guided talk is very informative. To hear the machines play is incredible.

Amazing museum about mechanical musical instruments. Each hour at xx:30 there is an excursion where guide enables instruments and you can enjoy their sounds

Take the guided tour with your ticket! My experiences with museums have always been boring, but the tour guides do an amazing job of keeping it interesting by playing the music boxes in person. The guided tours are in English as well as Dutch!
I highly reccomend visiting, if not for the history but the great tunes that are played on these fascinating devices.

The Museum Speelklok in Utrecht offers a truly unique and fascinating experience that combines music, engineering, automation, and human craftsmanship. The museum features an impressive collection of self-playing musical instruments, including clocks, organs, and other mechanical instruments that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries.
Upon arriving at the museum, I was immediately struck by the intricate details and craftsmanship that went into creating these incredible instruments. The museum's collection includes some of the most beautiful and complex mechanical instruments I have ever seen, with intricate carvings, ornate details, and intriguing mechanisms that are sure to captivate visitors of all ages.
To truly appreciate the museum's collection and fully understand the history and significance of these instruments, I highly recommend taking a guided tour. The tour guides are knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate about the museum's collection, and they provide a wealth of information about the history of the instruments, their creators, and the context in which they were created.
One of the things that surprised me the most was the variety of instruments and music pieces that the museum has to offer. The guided tour takes visitors through various periods and styles of music, showcasing a wide range of instruments and musical styles. From classical music to folk tunes, the museum's collection has something for everyone.
I particularly enjoyed the fact that the different tour guides have their own preferences when it comes to instruments and music pieces. This means that even if you take multiple tours, you're likely to hear different instruments and music pieces each time, providing a unique experience every time you visit.
Overall, the Museum Speelklok in Utrecht is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in music, history, engineering, or automation. The guided tours are engaging, informative, and entertaining, and the museum's collection is truly one-of-a-kind. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this museum is a great place to spend an afternoon exploring and learning about a fascinating period in history.

Good experience to know history about music clock. How were the people who created them. Unbelievable. Oh! There is also a game that looking monkey and make a music. Nice to bring kids there.

Great museum! The guided tour gives an extra dimension to this museum and shows the music of the different clocks and street organs, combined with the explanation of the guide this is an extremely interesting ~45 minutes. The guided tour brings you only to one-third of the museum, the other parts you can visit yourself. There are also interactive automated music machines in the museum that you can power yourself, as well as many explanations for the different clocks and street organs. The museum accepts the museumcard. Also, there seems to be some activities for kids in the museum.
The De Haar castle is a large, 19th century, medieval-style palace with landscaped gardens that host regular fairs and events. The castle is a popular tourist destination and is home to the Van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar family.
A wonderful place to visit with your family, so many incredible rooms with beautiful furniture, the park outside is also incredible, you can bring your own snacks or you can visit the cafe, you can't take your baby stroller inside, parking is available and you can take photos and videos inside.
Well organized staff and you can read the history of every room on the spot on a huge beautiful pamphlet.
I strongly recommend you to visit the castle.

I had an great experience visiting Castle De Haar! 🏰✨ Despite the slightly higher costs, the grandeur and beauty of the castle and its surroundings made it well worth it.
The sheer size of the castle was huge. Its magnificent architecture and meticulous attention to detail transported me to a bygone era. Exploring the lavishly decorated rooms and expansive gardens was like stepping into a fairytale. The picturesque surroundings added to the enchantment, creating a truly magical atmosphere. 🌳🌷🌞
While the ticket prices may be on the higher side, the exceptional quality and maintenance of the castle make it clear why. The staff's commitment to preserving the historical significance and beauty of Castle De Haar is evident in every corner. 📚🗺️
Well worth a visit if you are in Utrech or close by. It's a perfect destination for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and anyone seeking a unique and unforgettable adventure. If you're willing to indulge in a slightly higher-cost experience, I highly recommend exploring the grandeur and charm of Castle De Haar. You won't be disappointed! ✨🏰💫

A true awesome Castle in The Netherlands. Do visit the Garden and the Castle. But most important, it is good to read the history and heritage before you enter the Castle. This gives you a good image of the Castle and the building next to the Castle. This building is still in ownership of the family and they do visit it very often.
The garden is beautiful and completed with several small items from the past. Enjoy this view and the environment via the two restaurants and cafe!
Enjoy and I will for sure be back to enjoy this place.

The biggest castle in the Netherlands with astonishing gardens! Even though I visited here on a rainy summer day, it was a peaceful walk through the gardens. I was not super impressed by the interior, the kitchen looks dazzling though! The history of the castle is also interesting to read/watch.
I find it also pretty easy to reach by public transportation, there is a bus stop right in front of the castle. It is free to visit with the Museumkaart!

This was absolutely magical, I loved every minute of visiting. It would be a 10/10 no matter what - the castle and the interiors are simply breathtaking - but I just wanted to drop by and say CONGRATULATIONS to all the staff, everyone was incredibly warm, welcoming, and excited to share little curiosities and insights about the castle's history. A truly special experience, can't recommend it enough!

Beautiful grounds and castle. Well worth a visit! You can use your museum card to enter. The inside of the castle is beautiful and well maintained. Very informative with lots of hosts in the rooms to tell you more about about it.

It's a really wonderful castle in really good condition. Almost every room has Dutch, German, English, and French information about the room. The volunteers are very friendly. Expect to spend about 2 hours in there if you want to see everything in detail.
The park is also nice, not many flowers in mid-April. If you want, there is also puzzle solving for the park and the castle.

Absolutely stunning architecture! The guides in the castle were also really helpful, with their explanations of the features in the castle.
The surrounding park was great to walk with, though it seemed like it wasn’t maintained too well. Deer park was a pleasant surprise too!

Incredible castle near Utrecht and Gouda, we went by public transport and it was easy, only few minutes walking from the bus stop. The visit was around one or two hours. Every room has a guide person and also a text in different languages to explain about the room. The visit is worth, i was impressed with the history and how the castle is well maintained.

It was really an unexpected great visit. Just for case I drove there and I strongly recommend to go there. Beautiful castle from outside (I haven’t been inside). Entrance to the park is pretty cheap (7€) considering that is huge and you can spend a whole day also enjoying a picnic or relax in the green. Place is somehow magic!

Amazing castle and park which makes you feel like you are inside a fairy tale. There are a lot of things to do around and the history of the castle is pretty interesting. The garden is pretty huge and there is even a maze and a deer park you can visit. I believe this is one of the top visits in the Netherlands.

The largest castle in the Netherlands. Great architecture, amazing interiors, you would think there would be more to explore inside but it is still impressive. In every room there is information in many languages to read for this is a big plus. Outside is different very beautiful, wonderful gardens and lots of pleace
for walks in the park with photo spots. Parking is also very large and convenient at a cost of 6 euros. The castle can be visited on a museum card. There is also a restaurant on the castle grounds.

A unique visit that must be done by all history and castle lovers! Picturesque landscape that travels visitors to the 1700s! Very well maintained. Both surrounding areas and inside rooms are magnificent.
Parking cost is costly for no reason as it offers neither security nor shadow.

Beautiful bed rooms, hall ways, galleries, the living area and powder rooms still feel alive. The main hall, roof and walls and magnificent. If you have museum card this is covered. You can enter easily. It is in calm and conent place. The cafe is large but full. The gardens and good to go for a picnic. Highly recommended for visit. An absolute must see when visiting the central part of the Netherlands. It’s close to Amsterdam and Utrecht. Very large castle, so well maintained and preserved. Also very relaxing walks with lots of benches possible trough the parks and gardens around the castle. The inside of the castle is amazing, don’t forget to visit the gift shop there, and the restaurant is also very yummy (near the entry).

Easy to access by bus, the bus stop is outside the train station. The the bus stops outside the castle (both ways). Seen only the garden which is beautiful, I assume in Spring and Summer will be nicer. There are picnic tables as well.

Kasteel de Haar is the largest castle in the Netherlands. It's fairy-tale-like and in excellent condition both inside and out.I liked the opportunity to see not only the grand halls but also the kitchen, bathrooms, and toilets. The castle is surrounded by an extensive park. The French part is magnificent, it's just that you wish the flowers were already planted in their designated spots. The most interesting part of the English section is the deer.

What a marvellous day out! Fairy tale style castle set in beautiful grounds. Lots of rooms to visit and view. Excellent placard boards in each room (various languages), expanding on the use of the room over time.
One word of caution - access to the castle is a NON starter for any one who needs a wheelchair or walker support.

Beautiful castle, the gardens are amazing and so impressive to see and of course take pictures of, you would think you are royalty. The inside of the castle and descriptions of every exhibit is very thorough and nicely explained by the tour guides. A must visit!

Really more of a country retreat for rich barons than a castle proper, but still impressive and the interior has some beautiful stained glass and other items. The Castle outer building is surrounded by a cool green scum moat, and you have to walk through pretty gardens to get to the Castle proper.
Once you're in, you have to go down stairs and around a corner to a pinch point where you have to scan your ticket again for entry. They're quite strict about no bags/backpacks and have free lockers - a bit annoying as every other historical place we've been in Europe has allowed purses (they even said if you have a jacket you have to continue to wear it and can't carry it, ridiculous as it's quite warm as you go through the Castle). Displays are well-described, and they've got a good system of cables/signs for one-way progression through the Castle. Good visit, worth 1-1.5 hours of your time.

Most beautiful castle and gardens. Not possible to get there if you have to rely on public transport, so keep in mind that extra cost will be required to rent a car or hire a taxi.
Booking in advance is a good idea - you book a time slot and then don't have to wait to go inside. We booked about 2 weeks in advance.
You can easily spend a whole day there - both the residence and the gardens are absolutely magnificent!

Beautiful castle, well maintained and full of details. Every room has information in different languages available on a flyer. A lot of employees walking in all rooms to give some extra information and tell some interesting facts.

It was one of the most beautiful castles I have seen. It is very well kept and the guides are friendly, helpful and very informative. The fact that the family comes back yearly to keep up the traditions is great.
History is preserved very well. The gardens are well taken care of and it is so peaceful. We had a picnic in the garden.
The shop is also well worth a visit as is the restaurant.
Well worth a visit.

Its just amazing. In between the forests , you need an entire day if you are planning to come. The castle is well maintained and there are many guided tours available to know about the history. Once done there is a cafe to enjoy hot coffee. Parkings are near by to the castle.

We visited on a Friday outside school vacation, there was no wait and the place was not crowded at all, it was perfect to enjoy the park and a quiet visit of the castle. It is an interesting visit, the volunteers (guides) clearly enjoy sharing their knowledge and passion, we had a great time.
It is a bit pricey for what you get though, and you do not get to see much of the castle (still under renovation), and none of the outbuidlings. I would also recommend going a bit later in the season to be able to enjoy the gardens and park more.

Very nice place for a walk, the castle is magnificent and the garden is very peaceful.
I don't see why there are such strict limits for inside visits. When we visited we had to wait several hours to be admitted in a slot with available places, at the same time it was not that crowded outside.
Depending where you travel from - the public transport to the castle might be a bit of a challenge.

Absolutely loved it here even though it took me 3 hours to reach it. I only had time to do the castle tour and it was much too rainy and wet for me to explore outside but I’ll have to come back during the warmer weather to do that one day when things are in full bloom. I like that there were free lockers so you didn’t have to lug your bags/coats/umbrellas around too. It’s a self guided tour so you can do it at your own pace and there are big boards in each room that tells you about each room in several different languages along with most rooms having attendants to tell you more information should you so choose. Some of the staircases are quite narrow so you have to be very careful going up and down some of those but I enjoyed learning about the castle and the people who lived there and how they lived. I spent a good 1.5 hours there and only explored the castle. I’m sure you could easily spend 2.5 hours if you took in the grounds/gardens as well.

A small group of us stopped by on the way back from Amsterdam. The place is beautiful, and the employees throughout the castle were very knowledgeable. We ate at the little restaurant which just recently opened. The food was pretty good, and our server was very polite.

Nice place to visit. It's easy to reach from the city centre (buses 28 and 111), and the self-tour inside the castle is well sinalised and oriented by friendly employees. The castle was built in the 1300s, but was actively inherited and used all these centuries, so there are a lot of history and details inside. Very well kept. The gardens/park are very beautiful and I believe that in summer it's even nicer, as picnic is allowed. Good to go with all the family.
