Lined with Mediterranean plants, the trail offers beautiful views of the rushing river and city below. It is a popular tourist attraction that visitors to Merano should not miss, with recommended step counts exceeding 10,000 steps.
Lovely walking trail and very well maintained. Can see a beautiful view along the trail..

Fantastic views of the city and surrounding landscape. Vineyards, steeples and mountains can be taken in from the viewing benches. There are also a few restaurants/spots to have a drink along the promenade. The climb up the old fort tower is worth it for the views from the top. It is quite a steep walk up to the promenade - we managed it with a pram but took some pushing!

Wonderful route, easy realxing, the whole family with kids can enjoy the view of merano from a bit higher. The route has a part long the river, very calming. There are small herbs garden to check out on the route as well. There’s also some restaurants along the way and hotels.

Beautiful path with lots of wow views! Totally go there for a pleasant walk!
Trauttmansdorff Castle boasts a tourism museum and is surrounded by sprawling botanical gardens offering striking mountain views. A visit to the castle museum can be a relaxing end to a seven-hour tour of the gardens, which are well worth the time. Although the restaurant experience was not ideal due to slow service and forgetful staff, this was the only negative aspect of an otherwise beautiful location.
Wow WHAT A PLACE, had a great time. Been there for 4,5 hour ( it was a hot day 33 degrees )
The only thing I’m mad off is that I climbed all the way to the birds and when i was finally all the way up it was closed for technical reason grrrr why could anyone tell me that at the entrance. Not cool!
But further it was a beautiful spot!

The most beautiful botanical gardens that I've ever seen in my life. We spent almost 4.5 hours admiring it. My kids were thrilled since there are a lot of interesting things there for kids alongside the gardens.
I strongly recommend visiting there, just make sure you have extra time.
There is also a tourist museum there (inside the castle), unfortunately due to a lack of time and a wonderful weather,we prefer to visit the gardens and not visit the museum.

The gardens are unbelievably beautiful. A treasure. A good 4 to 5 hours walk of wonderful landscapes. The castle’s visit is not worth it.
Benoit Derat — Google review
Exceptionally beautiful botanic garden with a huge variety of plants and stunning views off the viewing platforms higher up on the hill. The different routes through the park are thematically arranged and guide you through the entire park. If you want to see everything, 3-3,5 hours should be sufficient if you walk at an average speed. There's multiple play areas and opportunities for interaction for children to make it more interesting for them. The restaurant is at an average price, the quality of the food we got there was however very good, and it was deliverd to the table rather quickly. Would definitely recommend this to everyone good by foot!

This place is so awesome I don't even want to write a review about it, it might make it busier in this era of overtourism.
But anyway: this garden is too beautiful to be true: the location in the Alps, the hilly terrain of the park, and the variety of plants and flowers and artwork. Usually it's sunny here which really helps.
We were here in late October which was perfect.
Walking around is not really doable for people who don't walk well.
Parking is easy, there's also a bus to the station and it's an easy detour from the Brenner tollway.
Michael Blok — Google review
In the castle there is a museum and left thst for the end of our tour there, to chill after we took 7 hours to visit the Botanical garden, and it's worth each minute. Restaurant experience want so great as we waited 15 minutes to just be served, even though others around us were served, they forgot to bring the water we ordered, got salads without the cutlery, and when we told we didn't get the water we ordered, we were charged another one on our tab. We sorted it our later but that experience is the only bad thing we had there.

Just great.
Nice to walk around to enjoy the flowers and trees but also the waterfall and ponds, terraces, and viewpoints above the valley.
Also an aviary and some mountain goats and green house with unique species.
Lovely and recommended to the whole family.

After reading so many glowing reviews of this place, we decided to check it out. The gardens are enormous and can be steep at times, so be prepared for a workout if you want to see some of the upper attractions like the lovers garden and the aviary which I thought were both worth the climb.
I’d recommend giving yourself at least 4 hours to see everything. We spent 3 hours here and weren’t able to see everything.

Fabulous gardens - also good cafe by lake and a good but v busy restaurant by the castle. Nice to see statues to Sissi in the grounds
Roland Moss — Google review
Absolutely AMAZING place! Beautiful gardens, loads to see and explore. When I was reading the reviews, some people were saying that you could easily spend a whole day there - I was a bit sceptical. But actually, you could! We spent about 3-4 hours there! There are some spots for picnic too. There are also few restaurants to grab some food / drinks / gelato. Would deffo recommend!
Anna — Google review
This was our second visit, this time during the day - our previous visit was during the late opening one evening in the summer. The gardens are stunning, plenty of flowers and scents in early May. We were there 4h30m and didn't see everything, nor did we visit the museum. This is a place you can visit time and time again, but be aware that there aren't many places to shelter when/if it rains.
Finally, don't visit in good weather at the weekend if you are travelling by car, the parking was full! Public transport is a better option.

The South Tyrol Archeological Museum houses a well-organized exhibit featuring the preserved remains of a Neolithic man. The museum is spread across three floors dedicated entirely to showcasing Otzi and includes a fourth floor for rotating exhibits. Visitors can make use of an audio app available for a small fee that enhances their experience and allows them to navigate the displays at their own pace.
Small but well organized museum. I’d recommend getting the museum audio app for your phone. It’s only $1 and helps to bring the displays to life, plus it allows you to go at your own pace. The first 3 floors are all for Ötzi and the fourth is what I assume to be a rotating exhibit. I didn’t reserve a ticket and had no problems with crowds, but I did go midday on a Tuesday. Bag storage is available too since you can’t bring large bags into the exhibit area.
Michael Kyle — Google review
An intriguing story of the ice man. It's a pity that everything revolves around one person and the discovery of the skeleton. I believe that the whole building and the story could be enriched with a broader horizon regarding how people lived at that time, what they did, what animals they encountered in their lives, and how they spent their spare time. And the exhibition on the top floor, organized somewhat forcefully, has little to do with the Ice Man. And definitely too few multimedia elements. Today, it's all about videos, and just talking heads in them don't solve the problem anymore! 🤷🏾♂️
A. Dream — Google review
This museum is really well-organized and utilizes multimedia to make the topic more interesting for the visitors. Make sure you reserve tickets in advance online to save time waiting in line. The lounge at the top floor is also worth a visit, especially for families with kids.

One of the most unique museums I have ever seen. Worth an extra effort to get here. The whole story of how it is believed Otzi lived and died, how his body survived 10K years under a glacier, how he was found and the details of his life/death are extraordinary. Spent several hours going through the exhibits and a couple more strolling the town center.

It was great! Seeing Ötzi was super cool and we didn't have to wait long either. It was fascinating seeing and reading about old techniques that were used on his tools and to see how trade was already well established thousands of years ago. 100% recognized going! They also have a lot of fun stuff in the shop :D

Famous Otzi museum where you can get all the info about the discovery of Otzi, his lifestyle and even see the frozen mummy. Suggested spot to spend an hour or so. Family entrance tickets available (e.g. 26 eur for 2+2).
Boris Susmak — Google review
Very interesting museum, definitely recommend it.
All information is given in German, Italian and English. There is items, texts, films, touch screens and, of course, the mummy.
There is lockers you are asked to put your things into and these can be used with 1€ or 2€ coins.
We got here at 9:45am, it opened at 10:00am and it took us just over 2h to visit the entire thing while reading all texts and taking it slow. When we left, there was a huge queue for entering, so be there early or reserve your tickets, we didn't do this as we came by spontaneously.

Pro: Very very cool to see Ötzi the ice man. It is amazing how well preserved his body, clothing, and some personal items were. The line to see the actual body moved pretty well.
Con: you can't take pictures of the whole museum. There isn't really much else in this museum (the other exhibit was small and lack lust). Couldn't take my small backpack in, although I seen women with purses large than my bag inside. Paid for parking nearby.
Toni Sterling — Google review
Nice museum where you get to learn about Otzi the iceman (Europe's oldest known natural human mummy) and what was life like in the area over 5000 years ago. The personal belongings ground along him give precious details about the skillsets and life style then with carefully sawn garments and shoes.

Amazing expo. We had to wait about 10 minutes in line to get in because we did not have a reservation. Buy an app for 2€ instead of renting an audio guide. The app has not only audio, but also pictures and you get to keep it after the visit. Take your headphones with you for the more comfortable experience. There is a special app for kids 6-10 years old that is free. The QR codes to download both apps can be found either on the website, or right in the cash desk area.
Eugene Bogatyriov — Google review
Otzi is a fantastic exhibit for all ages. A must see - you will learn a lot.
Every display is supported in 3 languages. The story unfolds as a journey from his discovery, his retrieval and preservation, through to understanding his lifetime.
The technology he used was astounding.
This is the best museum I’ve visited in Italy - highly recommended to everyone.
Thank you South Tyrol!

Went to this museum while in Bolzano to see Otzi, the iceman. It was interesting to see the artefacts of that period . Almost missed to see Otzi as he lay in his cubicle which is behind a wall and not well sign posted. There is a glass window through which you see his mummified body. It's remarkable to see this skeleton in its entirety knowing how old it is. Not allowed to take photos in the museum.

It was fascinating seeing and learning all about Ötzi the Ice Man! The museum is very well organized and contains lots of information about him and the period he lived at. If you got the Bolzano card you can use it to enter for free. One downside: The audio explanations app costs $2, which is something you would expect the entrance fee to cover
Amazing views of the surrounding area of Bolzano from the gondola ride. It takes 12 minutes to reach the top. Once in Soprabolzano take the train over to Collalbo, it takes about 30 minutes and the scenery is amazing.

Not a bad place to visit, there is nothing much to see except some good views the only good part is if you are using cable car must check before going there If cable car is working or not
Mohsin Ali Shaikh — Google review
Funivia del Renon offers an extraordinary Alpine journey that immerses you in the beauty and tranquility of the Renon Plateau. As the cable car effortlessly ascends, you're transported to a realm of panoramic vistas, picturesque villages, and a sense of serenity that's unparalleled.
From the moment I stepped into the cable car, I was captivated by the ever-expanding views of the surrounding Dolomites. The journey itself felt like a meditative experience, as I watched the world below transform into a patchwork of forests, meadows, and charming hamlets.
Arriving at the Renon Plateau, I was greeted by a landscape that exudes a timeless charm. The simplicity of life in the Alpine villages, combined with the natural beauty that surrounds them, created a harmonious atmosphere that allowed me to escape the pressures of modern life.
Exploring the Renon Plateau was a delight for the senses. The hiking trails, each offering a unique perspective on the landscape, allowed me to connect with nature on a profound level. The scent of pine trees, the rustling of leaves in the breeze, and the distant sound of cowbells created a sensory symphony that felt like a gentle embrace.
The Renon Plateau is also home to the famous Renon Railway, a nostalgic journey that offers a glimpse into the past. Riding the vintage-style train through rolling hills and verdant valleys was a nostalgic experience that harkened back to a simpler era of travel.
The culinary offerings at Funivia del Renon are a celebration of local flavors. Indulging in traditional South Tyrolean dishes while surrounded by breathtaking scenery was a treat for both the palate and the soul. It's a reminder that the joy of travel is as much about savoring moments as it is about discovering new places.
Funivia del Renon is a gateway to a world where time seems to stand still and the beauty of nature takes center stage. Whether you're seeking an escape into the mountains, a chance to reconnect with nature, or simply a moment of tranquility, this Alpine retreat offers an experience that rejuvenates the spirit and creates cherished memories.

Tranquil crystal clear turquoise water with the reflection of the surrounding Dolomite mountain ranges sums up the Beuty of this place. This lake is very close to Bolzano. Parking is nearby and the lake is small. On a clear day in summer water is turquoise as you see in my pics.

A very famous spot that you can easily Google the history. It's simply stunning from all angles and you have to stop here if you are in the general area. Large car park which isn't too expensive and several cafés are available adjoining the car park.
A tunnel takes you under the main road and directly to the lake where your mind will explode when you see the views. It's almost unreal and you can't capture it in your brain sufficiently:)

Amazing Mountains but does not feel like Italy at all! The first language is German, specially in winter! I visited in September to hike and in Jan to ski. I have learned Italian, useless! Some of the lift operators do not even respond if you day Buongiorno! I went for the experience of Italy, yet none! big mistake in that sense. In the hotel, first language is German and 2nd, less informative in shorter and less information, Italian. It is that bad that at the bus stop, an Italian family was asking if anybody speaks Italian and I said I do, a little! Italian people who I had encounter w in Summer, winter and during meals were very polite, considerate, respectful of others during hike, ski, or at breakfast/dinner. The same sadly cannot be said about german speaking attitude. Some of us suffered some loud people speaking German, loud across tables even during formal candlelight dinner. They will not lower their volume and you cannot hear the music and enjoy a peaceful dinner! The hotel treats Germans better, they r special 😊 I will not choose to stay at Ortisei hotels again unless Italian culture and language is respected and preferred.

Brixen Cathedral was rebuilt in 1754 in the Late Baroque style typical of churches in the Holy Roman Empire, with lighter colors and fine stucco details compared to the High Baroque style in Italy.
The adjoining cloister is covered with Gothic frescoes.

Impressive , huge and beautiful cathedral in the middle of the old town in Brixen.
Just a short 10 minutes from the train station will put you in the middle of the old town center.
Go inside and marvel at the ornate rococo and be sure to look UP to appreciate the ornate frescos on the ceiling
Look behind you and up to view the beautiful , large and elaborate organ.

What a place! Serenity, peace and wow! Nice dome around this little Brixen town on the foothills of Dolomites. Do plan one day trip around this town and enjoy the beautiful small town vibes.
Glacial tongue-basin alpine lake covering 3.5 sq. mi., with spa towns & hiking routes nearby.
Amazing place!!! But you see many many rich (and old) people here for holidays.

Tegernsee is one of the most beautiful lakes and even places, I have ever seen and been to!!
Small lake and town near to Munich, less than 2 hours by car and also you can get there with train very comfortably, during pandamic all the shops in a small town are close but there are many small local shops for dining and decorative stuffs.
But we enjoy sightseeing, hiking, relaxing and we were lucky because it was sunny that day and it helped us to enjoy more.
Definitely I will come back and stay there for couple of days in hotel, one fay was not enough for me !!

One of my favourite places around Munich, it offers relaxing atmosphere that can be enjoyed in sunny days with a local beer. Also driving to the place, avoiding autobahn is pretty fun.
The Krimml Waterfalls in Austria are a magnificent natural wonder, featuring Europe's highest waterfall with a 380m drop amidst a wooded mountainside. The Falls present an extraordinary sight, enveloped in mist and occasionally adorned with rainbows or frozen solid depending on the season. The Wasserfallweg is the scenic walking path starting at the ticket office that meanders up through mixed forest to offer tourists numerous vantage points for close-up views of this breathtaking landscape.
Must visit...spectacular waterfalls, the trek thru the woods, trees still covered with snow. ..one with nature. So peaceful and serene. Totally loved it. Since it was off season, there wasn't any crowds or queues. 😍

Beautiful waterfalls with stunning views of the alps. Its a steep hike but it’s very worth it. When you reach the top you can hike besides the river through the alps. The only negative is a lot of people. I highly recommend it and it’s the most beautiful waterfall I have ever seen.

Very impressive waterfalls! I can highly recommend spending at least half a day here in order to make the round tour during which you will pass all of the waterfalls.
The paths can be quite steep during some sections but they are well maintained and easily accessible for all people with basic fitness and proper shoes. We saw families with several children and strollers as well as groups of pensioners which made it all the way to the top and were rewarded with stunning views. That being said, it is important to note that these waterfalls are certainly not a secrets for tourists which is why the paths were quite crowded, yet not overcrowded.

This has been one of the most heartwarming experiences I've ever had. It was truly refreshing, delightful, and thoroughly enjoyable. The location is incredibly welcoming for visitors. The hike, while moderate, was invigorating, although we didn't quite make it to the waterfall's highest point. It took us just over an hour to reach the café area, where we relaxed by the river, formed just downstream from the waterfall. It was incredibly soothing and definitely worth a visit.

Suggest you pack a picnic and plan to spend the day at Krimml. The waterfalls are an amazing sight. The path is safe and even with stops to take photos. Really enjoyed!

There not much information provided regarding entrance fee. There’s a booth right at the bottom of the waterfall. Cost €5 per person. Bring a waterproof rain jacket. Don’t waste effort with umbrella because you would need to climb the rocks to get a view of the waterfall.

The krimml waterfalls are an absolute wonder of the nature, one the most beautiful places we have been in Austria. We had a great time here, views are amazing of the waterfall . If you get chance go to the very top. Unfortunately we were restricted on time so only got half way up.
Places to grab a drink and a couple of souvenir shops.
Not ideal for those with reduced mobility.

An absolutelly stuning place, a must if you're in the reach. The hike might be quite demandingly steep if you want to reach to the top, but you can also easily just have a delightful stroll at the bottom and just enjoy the view up.

Amazing fall, huge in size, very impressive force of nature. The climb in the path next to the fall is not easy and not everyone can reach the top. There is lots of parking nearby and also a museum with water games for the kids. Super fun. Recommended for families. Included in the Salzburger land card.

A great hiking trail, that’s starts from 1070 meters at the feet of the first waterfall and ends at 1460 meters. We spent here 3 hours. The walk has steep parts but is kids friendly, along the walk there are view points to the waterfalls.
There are a coffeehouse and a restaurant at the start of the trail, and also one at 1300+ meters.
Very recommended trail.

Great walks. Paths are very accessible. Waterfalls have many points from where you can see them and take great photos. You can even go there with a kids trolley. We took a walk with our 3years old and he had a good time there. 2 small playgrounds at the beginning of the path.

One of the biggest waterfalls in Europe but not my favorite but worth a visit.
An advice, buy the 8€ ticket unless you have a car then buy the 13€ tickets which includes the parking in P4 and the entry to the water museum.
Second advice, avoid the gate entry a few km before the waterfall which costs 11€ for no reason you can take the right lane to avoid the gate.

Beautiful waterfalls and excellent paths from the visitor centre to the lower, middle and upper falls. Quite a few places to eat and drink there too. Gets quite busy.
Marc Dobson — Google review
This was better then expected! The falls are stunning. When you look at the fotos you cannot grab the size of the thing. It’s a combination of several falls and rapids with the water being very wild.
For people liking hiking they are able to walk to the upper part of the stream. You can choose climbing to the middle part (having the restaurant) and going to the upper part. Getting to the upper parts takes about 1.5 hours. A further half an hour walk through the glacier canyon will take you to two restaurants. We enjoyed the smaller one which was vert cozy. The quietness and surrounding was making the two hour hike absolutely worthwhile.
Kufstein Fortress, a medieval stronghold perched above the town and overlooking the Inn River, is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts. This well-preserved fortress has witnessed centuries of territorial disputes between Tirol and Bavaria, serving as a prison for political captives. Today, visitors can explore its reconstructed 1300s design, featuring stone walls, halls, and a museum showcasing regional history and historic artifacts from past battles.
As soon as you walk out of the train station, you can see this representative building of Kufstein. It has a very distinctive appearance. When I visited, there was even the sound of music playing at 12:00, which is very special!!!

A clashing point from the old times between Tyrol and Bavaria. There are some interesting displays and videos (with English subtitles!), but some areas are a bit dated and badly lit. At noon every day you can hear the great organ playing and they hold events from time to time. If you're in the Kufstein area, it's worth a visit.

This was a highlight on our Germany trip. The fortress is really incredible. It was very, very cold when we went so we did hurry through some of it. If you have mobility issues parts of this will be difficult to manage. On the top of the wall you can get spectacular views of the city. A nice gift shop is also available with a few nice local made wares but a larger selection of imports.
We enjoyed this just as much as Salzburg and it wasn't nearly as crowded.
If you go be sure to eat at Purlepons. Great Bavarian good and atmosphere.

The KitzSki mountain cable car is a popular winter sports destination that boasts a diverse range of challenging skiing and snowboarding slopes. Located in a picturesque and welcoming town, visitors can enjoy good quality lifts, well-groomed runs, and delicious food at the base and huts. The resort is sprawling with plenty of opportunities to find quieter corners even during peak times. Skiers looking to improve their skills will appreciate the several small black sections on the Kirchberg side.
Really great ski station with so many lifts and slopes that is perfect place for a week trip to see at least part of it ❄️☀️⛷️🥰

Skiing was pretty good except for the fact that the buses that are supposed to take you back were not running between the stations. Had to find a taxi to bring us back to Pass Thurn

It's a nice ski resort especially for skiers who want to improve. There are several small black sections especially on the Kirchberg side. The lifts were a bit crowded in the morning but the resort is quite big and it's not hard to find quieter corners (even during weekends).

First time experiencing the Kitzski area. Its a very large ski area with lots of variation and long valley runs. The lifts are all very modern, amlost every lift is a 6-8 seater with weather bubble and heated seating. Only major con for me is the low elevation. Also didnt like the bus connections in the spring season.
Conclusion:
+ very well connected and modern lifts
+ huge area, (+connection to Wilder Kaiser)
+ long valley runs
+ strong snowmaking
+ lots of amazing ski huts with delicious food
- low elevation, not very snow sure (booking half a year in advance is not advised), valley runs might not be open,
- some lifts (p.ex Fleckalmbahn) open at 8am but the first bus goes at 8:15am from Kirchberg (8:28am after 10. March)
- online info not always reliable: weather stations show error, runs marked open that are closed in real. Also some runs that looked still good were closed without a reason.
- expensive ski area
- from 10. March on only 1 bus every hour between Pengelstein and Ki-West lifts

Chaos! They shut the cable car link between Jochberg and Kitzbühel (the weather seemed quite benign to me, but I'm not complaining about this), leaving hundreds of skiers stranded on the wrong side of the resort. There were no messages on the mountain about what to do, but luckily others seemed to know. So we skied down to Jochberg to find hundreds of people waiting for a bus. None came. The cable car shut early in the day, so why was there no contingency plan? Tiny busses came and went, already quite full on arrival. Eventually we squeezed onto one with our kids, which was dangerously full, people being thrown around every time the bus turned. We arrived home 2 hours later. What a complete joke. Surely this must happen quite a lot and why do they not have a plan for it. On subsequent days we did not want to ski to the other side of the resort in case it happened again. Unfortunately this officially l probably means we won't visit the resort again. It's crazy busy in any case.

Great resort with good lifts in a nice, quiet, beautiful and welcoming town. Was there during the week and it was not very crowded. Good food at base and huts. The runs were well groomed. The only regret is they we didn’t have more time there. Will definitely return. Loved staying at Gamshof hotel!

We had the chance to ski for 2 days. it was a great weather and the slopes are georgeus. There are many different lifts available. If you want to see all the slopes, one day is not enough, you can only ski the whole mountain in 3-4 days. There are restaurants in many different points. A great destination for a ski holiday. Daily skipass in peak season is 65 euro per person

Its just about 300 meters from Kitzbühel center. Thera is a big parking and rental ski shops just next to it. Within 15 minutes you can reach the top of the mountain. The scenary and the ride to the top is so breathtaking!!

Very nice place. The ticket is about 25 EUR but the view is splendid. It feels a bit expensive in summer however the view is very nice. There is no vegetarian restaurant at the mountain top. Hence I would suggest to carry our own food at mountain top. You might want to eat something at mountain top considering the view , which is fabulous. However only drinks are served which is not do good during lunch time.
The Herrenchiemsee New Palace is a grand structure located on the island of Herreninsel in Bavaria. Built in 1878 and modeled after the Versailles palace, it was created as a tribute to absolutist monarchy. Ludwig II, its founder, spent very little time here and made it more as an expression of his romantic ideas and imagination than as a residence. The palace's design reflects Ludwigs' obsessions with romanticism while being typical of his creations.
It was a very beautiful environment, quiet nomatter the population.

The walk from the ferry dock was not strenuous but on a warm day could leave one sweating. There is an ice cream stand near the end of the trail for those needing a cool indulgence.

You can take your boat to reach the destination and enjoy the scenic view of a dream house and the islands inside the lake. Once you reach the castle don't get astounded by the beautiful sculptures and exquisite rooms built by King Ludwig 2. The Königssee lake is a large, translucent body of water situated south of Berchtesgaden. It boasts stunning natural scenery, including steep mountain walls that enclose the lake's fjord-like depths. The lake is known for its exceptional purity, with drinkably clear waters that reflect emerald-green hues. Visitors have the opportunity to take a boat ride across the tranquil surface and explore two different routes around the area, each offering beautiful views and hiking opportunities.

Lovely lake and would enjoy it better when it’s sunny, can spend around 2-3 hours, you would get into a boat which cost around 22,50 euros per adult.
In the middle of the boat you can hear echo when it’s all silent and a trumpet is blown after that they drop you to a small island and can spend around 1-1.5 hours by taking a stroll or visiting a small church and can eat in the cafe

Went early in the morning and bought a boat ticket at 14 euro. At that time, we were unable to alight at the church but nonetheless, the boat tour was amazing!
Especially when the boat went closer to the cliff and the staff blow the horn, which reverberated throughout the mountain and reflected back!

Good place. Travel from Bad Reichenhall to Königssee is mesmerizing. Do take bus from Bad Reichenhall for the best view.

No words to describe how beautiful it is. Take the boat to Salet. Walk over to Obersee, you can walk to the other side, but not suitable if you are not so mobile, as you have to hike / climb some "rock" stairs. It can be very slippery. It is about 40 min one way walk

suggest to come here earlier so can go more view and place to walk.
bring some food with you, im sure its a nice place to have picnic.

A beautiful lake , still with not so many people and shops around. A great walk, lookout, waterfalls. I liked that.

Nice lake but very touristic and quite crowded on the weekend.
There are many stalls in which you can grab something to eat or drink. Many souvenir shops.
As we were traveling with a reactive dog, we didn't take a boat tour but rather walked around the lake.
Found a nice spot from which you could see the lake, but it wasn't the best view.

Konigsee is a big lake nestled in the Bavarian Alps. The crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, and stunning mountain backdrop create a picture-perfect scene. Whether you’re taking a boat ride or hiking along the trails, every moment here is special. A must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike! We took a boat ride across to St Bartholomew’s chapel, and hiked up to the Ice Chapel.
There is parking at the head of the lake, hotels, restaurants etc, and good transport connections.

Nice lake and very impressive but very touristic and quite crowded even we were there during the week (on Monday).
We took the boat to another island and walked around the island. It took abt 30' to walk around the island.

Königsee is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of Bavaria's natural beauty! The emerald-green waters, surrounded by towering peaks, creates a mesmerizing spectacle. The boat ride across the lake offers a serene and awe-inspiring experience, allowing you to soak in the pristine landscape.
Don't forget to visit the iconic St. Bartholomew's Church, a true architectural marvel. Königsee is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking solace in the embrace of Mother Nature.

One of best places to visit in Germany. The lake is surrounded by mountains that provide breathtaking views of the lake. You can take ship or paddled boat to explore the lake.

One of the best views in Alps, absolutely worth seeing. Especially strongly recommend lake cruise. The trumpet melody played by the crew of ship among mountains was something really breathtaking.

A truly magnificent place in the world and a pride of Germany. It's magnificent, an incredible sight to witness! One of the nicest views in the Alps; highly recommended. I especially advise a lake cruise. The ship's crew performs a trumpet melody that is absolutely stunning as it passed through the mountains. Would love to go again.

Eagle's Nest, Nazi mountain-top retreat now a restaurant with views, located near Berchtesgaden. The lodge is reached by special shuttle bus from the Kehlsteinhaus bus station and can only be visited by those with a valid tour ticket. It is number one on the tourist list for things to do in Berchtesgaden, and Synonyms include: mountaintop retreat, luxurious lodge built for Hitler, expensive house, luxury home.
The buses are clean, comfortable and very timely. It is very well run and organized. You can either bus, hike or bike to the top where incredible views await. Don't go thinking you can tour the property however. Accessible space is limited to bathrooms and a restaurant mainly. There are restrooms, a restaurant and gift shop at the bottom where you catch your appointed, time specific bus. You must pay for parking using coins only so be prepared. Once at the top you can wander the grounds of the property and climb stairs and short trails leading to amazing views. Proper footwear is encouraged if you hike trails. It's very rocky and uneven.

Very nice views.
The bus is a bit expensive, but definitely recommend it, cause it's a hard hike up. If you want to spend more time on the mountain tell them while buying a ticket that you want more time - bus places are counted and you can't miss it.

Impressive place to visit for a bit of history and some great views. Although we had lots of clouds it was still ennjoyable. Not much to see from the house which has become a restaurant. Only possible to drive up there with the special bus line which is the only actual cost.

Very cool and interesting history of you take a tour. Plan for 2 hours or more to take in all the scenery. Even longer if you eat at the restaurant.

If you are a history buff you might enjoy the visit. Nice views from the bus that takes you up the mountain, and gorgeous vistas at the top as well. However, the house functions as a restaurant nowadays, and there's only a small exhibition of photos on the outside gallery. In my opinion, not worth the price charged.

Just an amazing place with a chequered history. The views at the top are truly magnificent. We were fortunate to have had access the day we visited as the weather was beautiful. The walk through the tunnel to access the lift with the brass fittings was eerie but exciting. You could feel the spirits of those who had been before us.

Great example of NSGWP engineering and excess. Being one of the few standing buildings of the era this a must visit for any history nerd. Arrive early in the day to allow time to explore, enjoy a beer, and have lunch. I doubt there’s a more scenic view anywhere and I’ve only experienced a few roads/drives that rival the experience of getting to the Eagle’s Nest. It’s only open during the summer.
Mirabell Palace is a baroque palace in the Neustadt district of Salzburg, Austria. The site is notable for its Sound of Music scenes and its gardens which feature a famous fountain decorated with the wings of Pegasus.
Just wow! This place is truly gorgeous!! I strongly believe indeed it is the most beautiful monument you can find in Salzburg! I don't know if you can access the palace itself, but even just the garden is truly spectacul! What I couldn't really understand, since you have to pay to access the other monuments in the city, this one is completely FREE...

We only briefly walked through the gardens here bit it was still quite a beautiful spot. If you've got time in Salzburg then definitely go visit, but if you're limited on time don't worry about missing it. On the plus side it's on the way to the fortress from the train station, so don't use the tram, walk through the gardens here instead, it's not a long walk.

Even in early spring, the gardens are well cared for and beautifully maintained. The view from the palace toward the fortress is an iconic shot you must get in Salzburg. The dwarf gardens are a fun and quirky little side visit off the side of the gardens that bring out the silly in just about everyone.

A must see in Salzburg. An awesome park to relax, spend a lazy afternoon and try to have a sandwich/picnic while you do people watching. Expect a lot of tourist. Spend time walking around the park. Not quite the best palace of them all. Didnt go inside as it all seemed closed. The gardens outside were well kept but uninspiring. I suspect this was simply due to it being Feburary.
It was worth the slight detour on the way to old town.

Absolutely gorgeous gardens. The entry to the palace and gardens are free. I went on Sunday and couldn't access the palace. However I had been to concert a day earlier and got to see the staircase and marble room which were nice.

Stunning and beautiful place, the artwork throughout is wonderful. If you have an interest in architecture and/art, then visit this Cathedral. However, our second visit was to enjoy the well advertised 30 minute Midday Music session for just 6 Euros per person, and unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The idea is to demonstrate the many organs (5) culminating in the massive main organ. The religious readings far exceeded the music, and only about 10 minutes was actually played. We like HUNDREDS of others who attended did not seem that impressed. Shame, it was good while I lasted.

The St. Rupert Cathedral in Salzburg is Baroque in style.
It was in this cathedral that Mozart’s baptism took place.
The vault is very high and the entrance is impressive. The building was bombed in 1944 and the reconstruction, even successful, did not go completely unnoticed.
However, the visit is essential when visiting the center of Salzburg.

One of the highlights of Salzburg, the cathedral is glorious although not quite in the highest tier of Catholic cathedrals. Never the less, if you're in Salzburg there is absolutely no excuse not to visit and spend the better part of an hour taking in the neoclassical splendour. The line for entry can get rather long - I popped into the nearby Franziskanerkirche for a while and came back a half hour later and it was shorter. Still, I doubt you're going to get in without some line.

Great place to visit when in Salzburg. You can walk up but we chose to take the funicular railway, which was fun. We bought the €13 basic ticket which was good value. We used the funicular to get up as it was a very hot day. Great views over the city and an interesting walk around the fortress. We ate at the panorama restaurant at the top of the funicular and the food was delicious. An imposing structure that sits proud above Salzburg. We spent a very pleasant hour ambling around the outer portions of the building. We did not try the museums as we were running late, but just walking around was interesting, and they had some fun little diversions around that the kids could try. There were some stunning views across the city to the mountains, and weaving and winding stairs and corridors. We took the funicular railway up and down (which in itself was fun) and added to the experience.

This is a must if you're visiting Salzburg. The fortress is one of the most characteristic places in the city.
It is very well preserved, with a lot of museums and rooms to visit. It also offers an amazing view above the city.
I really enjoyed the many snippets and videos scattered around the place. They provided a lot of historical anecdotes and gave us some glimpses of life back in the middle ages.
You can reach the fortress with a funicular or on foot. I recommend walking up there only if you have the endurance for it. The trail is quite steep at times.
I also recommend booking the tickets in advance online. There are always a lot of people going there and having already the tickets drastically reduces the wait in line.

Great place to visit. What they don't tell you until you climb the big hill to get there is that it costs to just get in the grounds. Its worth it just for the views though to be honest gazing over the alps especially during sunset was lovely.

Easy to spend 1.5-2 hours here. The views are spectacular, and museums mostly good.
State Rooms: They are beautiful (particularly ceilings and walls), but I hadn’t realized there were only 3 rooms to see. Interesting but only took 5 minutes to see.
Main museum: An interesting mix of general history and historical life, but found the super basic English signs to be distracting. (They sound as if they were written for 5 or 6 year olds.)
Regimental Museum: An interesting 6-8 rooms on military history in Salzburg given the regiment based there, particularly focusing on 1800-1918.
Marionette museum: Two rooms with about puppets with signs in English, German, and Italian. Cute but in and out in 5 minutes.
Purchasing tickets is easy either online or in person, the this ticket will need to be scanned before entering the funicular and various museums at the top.
Toilets were quite clean in/near museums.
Cafe: Service wasn’t great whilst waiting but nice to have option.

Eisriesenwelt, a massive ice cave discovered in 1879, is open to the public for guided tours during summer. Quite a lot of upward/downward stairs (some fairly steep) inside the cave. Not a place for baby prams/buggies!

The ice formations are absolutely stunning. It was also fascinating to see layers of ice going back thousands of years. It is definitely worth a visit.
The guide was great and really nice.
The walk to the caves offers stunning views onto the surrounding peaks and valleys.
We went with a 4 and a 7 years old who are very good walkers (they can easily hike several kilometers on steep mountain path) and they both absolutely loved it.
It seems it is usually prohibited to take pictures most of the time. In practice, it would be unsafe in most places with so many stairs, but possible while the guide stops to deliver some information.
Beware that the caves are not accessible to all:
- the walk to the cave can be a bit long and steep for some.
- there are 1,400 steps to go through in the cave (not high, but some parts are very steep). About half the visit goes up the stairs and then the other half goes down.
- the visit is lit with flames, so low lighting can make it uneasy for some to watch their steps properly.
You need:
- warm clothes (0°C in the caves)
- good footwear (recommend hiking shoes)
- be in reasonable physical shape
- If carrying a young child, a back carrier

The largest ice cave in the world, with up to 42 kilometres of depth, but the ice is only across the first kilometer. It's colder outside than inside as there's no wind inside the cave, but still a sweater and a cap are necessary. Memorable experience.

Take the cable car up, the alternative hike is very dangerous. The cave is amazing to see, you will Explore it in the dark with oil lanterns to guide you. Worth the experience but go early because it can get quite busy.

It was very good especially the ice sculptures and the hike had a very nice view . The only thing was that they kept taking whichever group was bigger so the German group always went and the English group had to wait for almost and hour for the tour guide to come . We told the person there and he did not do anything or answer our questions.

Ice Cave is a unique experience. Me and my teenager kids (13, 15 and 17) loved it. Make sure to bring warm clothes as it is zero degrees inside. Prepare yourself for a challenging walking and climbing stairs (details on website). We spent around 3 to 4 hours in total. You can eat during your way down in a lovely panoramic restaurant with nice and correct menu and prices.

Great place. Just remember that it is very cold inside (around 0 C) and it is very popular - a lot of tourists! Better to go there in the middle of the week.

Absolutely spectacular!! But it’s physically demanding. Must walk uphill quite a ways, get on a gondola, walk uphill again until you reach the ice cave. Then in the cave, there are 700 steps up and 700 steps down. But it’s well worth it!!!
Wendy Roland — Google review
Difficult 40 minutes uphill walk from the parking to the cave in addition to a 5 minutes cable car but it's worth every minute. The views on the way are amazing and the tour in the ice cave is wow. In the cave you have to climb 1400 steps so you should be in quite good shape

Amazing ice cave to visit however if you really want to enjoy the tour, you must bring:
- Winter coat, warm socks and a pair of winter gloves, hiking boots
You will stay about 1hr inside the cave and it is freezing cold as expected. If you are around Salzburg or Munich, you should add this cave tour your itinerary.

Amazing experience! The climb to the cave was heavy (even if you're a fit person). But it's all worth it! Go as early as you can in the morning to avoid crowds.
The guide was very nice and good in English!

Har to get up. Poor information about necessary equipment. Very few toilets. We asked staff many times if the place was suitable for small kids and us, wearing summer clothing. The staff assured us it would be fine. Well. It wasn't
We payed almost 80 euros and couldn't even see the cave

Great place to visit! The hike is perfect length for children and the views are magnificent (in autumn) ! It is not stroller friendly, so taking a baby or child (hiking) carrier is the preferred option. In the cave itself there are lot of stairs. Dress up properly-it is cold inside.

Highly recommended! It’s worth the price in my opinion. Absolutely stunning to see. You go deep and very high up into the cave with everything changing. The guide gives good information and lights up some of the more fascinating sculptures formed by the ice.
It’s a little complicated to plan your visit there to be honest but once you’re there it’s easy going:
*Pack warm clothing!*
1. book a ticket in advance online
2. there’s parking at the bottom of the mountain with a shuttle that takes you up to the visitor center where you have to be within your time slot that you chose on your tickets. Alternatively, you can take your vehicle to drive up yourself (very steep and curvy roads!) and find parking roughly 10min away from the visitor center which you have to walk.
3. scan your tickets at the visitor center and walk roughly 20min up to the gondola. After that, the time on your tickets don’t matter anymore so take your time. You can either walk a scenic panorama-hike or walk through a lit-up tunnel which is a little less steep.
4. take one of the two gondolas up (2-5min max.)
5. and then walk another 20min to the entrance of the cave. Here you can put on your warm clothes and get ready for the cave.
6. After max 15min you will be let in with a group of roughly 30 others.
If you have a dog that’s scared of heights, darkness or that has sensitive paws, I would recommend not bringing it as you need at least one hand to make sure you’re not falling yourself (steep steps and dark surroundings) and so you can focus on what’s around you - would be a shame to miss.

Amazing place with great views during walk up. It could be hard for older people or small kids. In cave is cold, but all tour inside takes 60-70 minutes and aroumd 700 stairs up and 700 down. Better is it early in the morning. I saw around 20 persons, later there was so much more people.

The tour is worth the money. If you come with public transport, make sure that you get the hourly shuttle bus directly to the ticket center.
From there you need to hike about 20 minutes to the lift and then another 15 minutes to the cave entrance.
The inside of the ice caves is very beautiful and the guides explained a lot of the history and development of the Eisriesenwelt.

Breathtaking😍. From the parking lot you have to walk uphill close to 25 minutes to the cable car. Then the cable car ride take around 3 minutes. Post the cable car ride, walk again about 25 minutes uphill to get to the entrance of the cave. In the cave you will visit the 1-1.2 km having around 700 stairs one way. The guide explains in detail about the cave system and it’s history. Don’t miss

The cave is awesome. It takes a while to get to the cave (walking and funicular and walking) but the view from up there is great.
I really enjoyed the visit of the cave especially with the old torch. Our guide was very interesting.

Get ready to walk to get there.
Railway transporting passengers on a picturesque ride to the summit of Schafberg Mountain.
Definitely worth doing. Views are amazing from the top. You can buy a one way ticket up and then walk down or buy a round trip. Walking down from the top takes about 3 hours depending on how fast you walk and how much you stop. We had to specify a time for the return but were able to change the time once we got to the top. At the very top is a cafe with outdoor seating. Great 360 views. There are a few pathways to walk around up top. Probably want to plan to spend time to walk around and take pictures or do some light hiking. For a weekday in peak summer it was crowded. Don’t have to buy tickets too far in advance but you might have to wait a couple train times if you do walk up in peak season.

It's way overpriced!!!!! The view from the top is amazing, but the ride is very slow and hot during the summer..

This rail station is Austria's steepest COG railway has been running since 1893 from St. Wolfgang up to the Schafberg. The train takes 35 minutes to cover a total distance of around 6 kilometers, rising around 1200 vertical meters. It is memorable experiences I am sure you will enjoy with your family and friends , the round trip ticket for adult is 47.60 Euro.

The Schafberg Bahn offers an intriguing experience with a scenic trip, but it's advisable to avoid it during the summer. The cabins tend to heat up significantly, reaching uncomfortable temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius, especially since they are packed with passengers. The high price of 50 euros per person for this experience feels steep. However, the panoramic view from the top is breathtaking, featuring a 360-degree perspective. Additionally, there are two restaurants available for refreshment during your visit.

Nice mountain with beautiful views of the valley and lakes around it. Best way to get there is by the steam train, which takes about 35 minutes and run every 20 minutes during peak period (hiking is also an option).

A fun and unique way to get up the mountain.
We went during peak season in August.
We went early to get the first train at 08:50 and to be able to park in the car park right next to it which fills up fast.
Had pre bought tickets online.
Views from top amazing and huge restaurant as well as other food stands.
Love the trains in the bright red, makes for good photos and video of them chugging up and down.
Made the mistake of walking all the way back down 4250 feet. A bit much!

Beautiful ride up the mountain! A bit expensive, but I get why: the train station and the ride up are modern and smooth. We had no issues. Once up, I recommend staying around 2h and maybe do a little hike on the right side of the train station, as you look up the mountain.

Nice experience in a slow-moving train with beautiful scenery along the way. The view at the peak is beautiful. A must-do activity if you are around the region. You won't regret it with the amazing scenery you get at the peak. It's quite pricey as it costs euro 47.6 per adult but it's worth it. Need to book the descending train slot when you buy the tickets.
Jenny Law — Google review
Fun steam train ride of about 35 minutes with amazing views along the way. Our group road the train on a Monday around 11:30 am. We didn’t experience any issues, but the train was fully sold and completely full.
Recommend arriving early enough to be able to pick seats together (especially for larger groups). Also recommend being near the window when possible to get a breeze when it’s available. When our group went, the temperature outside was in the high 70s, but inside the train, it was significantly hotter. These trains have no air-conditioning and little circulation so be aware in the summer months.
Overall, the views were amazing, you won’t be disappointed.

The Best Mountain Train Experience you can have.
Superb views , everything was run professionally and no issues at all with anything .
My suggestion is to make sure you book your tickets online beforehand like we did . For both up and down trips time to suit you.
Makes life a lot easier as you are then guaranteed a seat on the trip time that you selected.
The whole experience was awesomeness at its best !

Not for people with health conditions! I was excited to enjoy the view and was expecting that in 2023 society is inclusive and options are offered for visitors that have problems walking or hear problems etc , but I had to learn , just do not go up. I managed to get on the train, but to reach the hotel and restaurant on top , one has to walk ca 1/4 mile steep uphill. If you can not do it, there is really nothing you can enjoy at the train station on top…. Maybe the rest rooms 😢 … otherwise really no. Onside ration for the disabled . Should have read before , but pretty disappointing … enjoy other sides that carry for people that had surgery and can not walk an incline , but do not expect any help or provision … hope they wake up one day and think about society members in wheel chairs or otherwise challenged people … until then never again

Awesomeness all around.
Even the drive to this point was breathtaking.
Price of a round trip is a bit on the higher side. 43 euro per person. But we dont mind that a bit.
It takes around 30 mins for one side. Vintage style travelling. Views around just keep getting better. Might be hard to climb in for people with some difficulty with legs. No arm chair support.
Note: you have to select boarding and returning time before hand. At the counter, they accept card payment too.
In all, if you can, don’t miss it.
There are eateries at the top. But carry some cash.

The Salzwelten Hallstatt is a salt mine museum located above the town of Hallstatt. It is known for its educational exhibits, including information about how salt is formed and the history of mining. The mine has deep shafts that date back to the Bronze Age, making them among the oldest in the world. Visitors can take a bilingual tour that goes into detail about these topics and even includes a ride on miners' slides, with one slide being 60m long.
I really enjoyed the museum and the tour of the salt mine. It was very informative and there's a lot to see inside. It's supposed to be the oldest salt mine in the world and the tour goes through all its history, from ancient times to modern days.
The slides and the short train ride are a nice touch and everyone has fun using them.

When visiting upper Austria and the lake Hallstatt area, this is a must do activity, visiting the oldest active salt mine in the world. The tour through is a great experience.
While waiting for the tour to start there is a cafe (snacks/finger food too) and bathroom in the building. The tour guide is friendly and is done in both German and English when going through. They are very knowledgeable as they explain about the salt mine, the mining process and it's history. There are a number of interactive visual experiences as you go through. It's really a well maintained and clean experience.
Take some warm clothes with you, you are given overalls to wear over your clothes, and a free locker to leave your belongings in before you enter the mine. Inside the mine was about 8 degrees Celsius.
We went as a family of 4 with 2 young kids 4 and 5, and they enjoyed it too. There are a couple slides and a train ride to finish it off.

Beautiful place. It’s a unesco world heritage site! Amazing 7000 year history of salt mining. Superb views from the top! The guides are amazing and so are the ways that the miners used to travel! Slides and trains!! The story told by the guides are amazing and very involved! The value for money the attraction provides is amazing! Must visit. Do not miss. If you go ins summer, you will have a lovey route to walk up as well. In the winters the funicular is great and provides the best views too!

Very particular place, standing on top of a hill, reachable via funicular (cost of the funicular and salt mine entrance = 36). There is a parking nearby the funicular Station. The tour of the mine takes 2 hrs. Better to go early, since there is always a queue. You are provided of special clothes to dress on top of yours. Then there is a walk to get into the tunnels and the caves areas, where a guide shows you how the salt is extracted. In a dedicated section a movie shows how in the prehistoric eve the salt was extracted. There are then two slides very funny to move from one area to another. Finally a train brings you back to the starting point. Highly recommended.

You need to take the cable car up here, otherwise it's a one hour up hill hike. At the time of writing (June 2023), the combined cable car and salt mine tour ticket costs EUR 40. I'd say in total we spent about 3 hours total for the mine and the viewing platform. The cable car takes you up hill to where the Hallstatt skywalk viewing platform is. There is also a restaurant and toilets there. From there to get to the mine you need to walk maybe 10 or 15 minutes up hill, a large part of it was very steep, I think it will be very very challenging if mobility is an issue.
The nearest car park is car park #2 and its a 5 min walk to the cable car station. We didn't prebook tickets because we had read online that car park #2 gets full easily and were worried that we wouldn't be able to find parking in time. In the end we arrived around 10am on a Friday and managed to find parking easily and only then bought tickets for the cable car and mine. Not sure what it's like on weekends.
The view from the skywalk viewing platform was pretty, although I don't think I'd say it's unmissable nor must see. Take a look at the photos below and decide for yourself. The platform is quite small and can get very busy as everyone is trying to take pictures from one single spot.
The visit to the mine a guided tour with two short slide rides. There is also a short mine train ride on the way out. The children will loved it. The tour itself consists mainly of a few videos telling you about the history of the mine. I like history so I found it quite interesting. Despite this I don't think I'd say that the salt mine is an unmissable attraction when visiting hallstatt.

Amazing and unique experience. Good guided tour. But there are lot of improvements to be made. There is about 600-800 meters uphill walk after the funicular, which is difficult for small children and elderly. Walking back and forth takes a lot of time and thus very less time and energy is left for enjoy the view at Welterbeblick. Secondly, there are lot of screens and visuals. Which is good in one aspect, but they should focus more on showing more real stuff, as it is the oldest operational salt mine.

My family came here a couple years ago and really enjoyed our tour. It's a bit of a trek up the hill to get to the entrance.
Because the tour goes pretty deep into caves they supply coveralls for everyone due to the cold. Once the tour started we got lots of information on the salt mine history. There are a couple slides to go down that bring you farther into the caves and then a train ride out. It was very cool!

To use the slides and the short train ride are very fun.

In the beginning we thought not to go to the salt mine, because it did not sound very exciting. However, due to the cold weather we had in this day we decided to visit the mine, and it was a very good decision. The kids like it from the minute we entered the site. We got special white uniforms as the mine workers, and the tour was very interesting including a lot of explanations on the one side, and entertainment on the other side as movies and animations. We saw an underground, lake and cool demonstrations of many kinds of salts and minerals. We also used 2 nice slides inside the mine, and ended the tour on a fast adorable train.
There is a 15-20 min walking from the lift station to the mine which located in the top of the hill.

Pretty amazing experience. Very interesting history, I did not know before that salt mining goes back to 7000 BC in this area. Some good to know facts: the time you book online is the funicular ascent time, not the tour start. And you will not be allowed to take the funicular at an earlier time. So consider that. The tour goes pretty quickly I did not have time to listen to the audio guide. I am planning to listen tomorrow on my way to drive home.

It is worth paying €40 for the Kombi ticket, which includes a guided tour to the salt mine.
After the furnicular, plan another 10+ minutes of uphill walk to reach the meeting point for the guided tour.
During hot summer, bring additional warm jacket, as temperatures inside the salt mine are around 8°C.
The tour lasts 1h30min and is fun and informative, with a blend of action (slides and a train ride back to surface) and information (by tour guide and several places with videos in German with English subtitles).
You can pre-download their audio guide app on your phone, to get explanation in your language (the tour is only in German and English). You may also want to bring your own earphones to listen to the audio guide during the tour.

Very interesting place that you don't see very often... It is worth visit from the very beginning - the funicular that takes you up to the altitude of 838 metres almost vertically, with amazing views over the lake and the village.
Inside the mine (that goes considerably higher than the funicular's end point) there are little trains and huge slides that allowed miners to move swiftly from one cave to the the next one. You're given old cloths to keep you protected from the salt. Some interesting information on the historic context of the mines.

This place is totally worth the visit. The views you see from the top are breathtaking.
I highly recommend the salt mine tour, but here are my pros/cons:
Pros:
1. The guides are knowledgeable and funny
2. It’s an extremely interesting place to see how salt was mined throughout history and how it forms
3. Suitable for all ages
Cons:
1. You sit and watch many videos throughout the tour about history/methods/info that I found to be too long and boring. The guide can just explain it without us having to sit and watch. There was about 3-4 videos, some are in German and only subtitled in english.
2. You wear the miners uniform which is nice, and keeps your clothes safe underneath, but if you’re wearing a long jacket it’s going to be really uncomfortable.
It took us 90 minutes almost to finish the tour, in my opinion it should take not more than an hour without the videos.

The salt mine experience is a super worth the money one so strong recommend it as is the world oldest salt mine as well! At the ends of the tour you will get the chance to try 3types of salt too and they will gift you a little salt container for each participant as well.

The experience was awesome and I learnt so much about salt mining. They provide the necessary clothing to go into the mine. We also get to play the mine slide which was extremely fun. The only problem was there was too much people in one tour, and the guide need to speak in both German and English, so it takes double the time. But it was during Christmas holiday so it’s understandable.

$40 euro per person for tram ride (to and fro) and salt mine. It’s worth the money for the views alone. It’s a bit of a walk from the tram to the mine so don’t expect to just be right there. There is so much to look at on the walk including the salt mummies they found there and a mini-temple to St. Barbara.
Fun fact. St. Barbara is the patron saint of miners. Her father beheaded her for being a Christian.
Once you get to the mine you stay in a waiting area until the next tour. Once the tour begins you go into an additional room where you put on your salt mining gear. There are lockers, free of charge. You walk through a photo history area before the tour officially begins. Once inside the mine, they provide a wealth of information in both English and German. There are two fun slides, the second of which a photo is taken. 5 mini films, a light show, salt tasting, and a train ride out.
My favorite part was the light show around the water- it’s very mind trippy. Doesn’t even look like water. A copy of your slide photo is 8 Euro, cash only.

This place is like the little hub for the scenic village of Hallstatt. Just a gaze upon the hill lines, the cemetery, surrounding cafes and bars takes you on a different feel.
The Pöstlingbergbahn, a historic mountain tramway built in the 19th century, links Linz's central square with the Pöstlingberg district. This transportation system was designed to provide a convenient way for people to travel up and down the hillside while offering spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The railway features an old-fashioned design, including traditional carriages and wooden seats, that adds to its charm and appeal.

Treetop Trail Lipno
Scenic spot
Sights & Landmarks
Scenic observation tower with a treetop walking platform, plus concerts, light shows & a long slide.
Worth the trip and the view up top. Walk the mountain, only tales 30 mins with kids to the top. 💪 Epic slide.

In my opinion, it is good that such places exist because it is difficult sometimes to plan activities for the family that are engaging enough for the small ones.
It is amazing that it was open on a Saturday, despite it being a holiday.
There could be more parking available on the location.
It can be reached by car or by cable 🚡.
There is food available at the location. There is a cool playground in front of the entrance, entry free. Not all personal speaks foreign languages.
All in all, I recommend it. I like it and I think there are not that many things to complain about.

We were skiing in Lipno so decided to go to the treetop walk one afternoon. It was easy to buy the tickets are the lipno info and get the bus right by our hotel (element hotel). The kids enjoyed the different things to do along the walk up but they were most excited about showing me all the different ski slopes they had done with their dad while I was with the baby. It had lovely views. Although it was a nice walk, I did think it was quite expensive for what it was.

What to do when one is tired of all the attractions for tourists available? Take a walk or ride by bus uphill and pay for entrance to see what can be seen from a lookout at such a place. Entrance fee is ridiculously high. Good thing is a nice try to show some bird species living in environment around. I am sure this business plan paid quickly.

nice place to visit with best view around and with good weather possible to see austrian alps. barrier free entry (visited with baby wagon). if with kids, worth to visit forest playground as well as full day trip.

We went there with a whole family and we absolutely enjoyed it (even our 2 years old daughter). There are many interesting facts about animals and also about the building itself. It is very good accessible with a stroller.

Very nice experience which could be done with children as well as older people. During the walk you can try some adrenalin stops or learn some more information about the Path as well as nature, trees and animals. View at the top of the Path is realy amazing. There is also souvenir shop at the bottom of the Path. To get close to The Treetop Walkaway you can use Bus or cableway. If you are interested in hikking, it is also possible. I was little bit sad that slide was closed due to the bad weather (rainy and windy).

Beautiful Nature. The employee who are working in slide doesn't work until 5pm. They close slide at 16:27 without giving any notice to people who is still there. Other wise places is beautiful fantastic worth visit just be carefully about time and ask them in advance.

A great place to watch the lake and it's surrounded from above.
There may be strong winds and a bit of cold, so be prepared.
Tickets are bought in the Cash Desk or in the web. If you register for lipno card, you just need to enter your email in the tickets machine to get a discount. No need for the ticket itself.
We took the cable car and all together it was expensive for a family.
You may park at almost the top in a public place for free and take a walk through the wood and buy tickets in place.
The cable car takes about 20 minutes.
The whole trip is fun and enjoyable.

What a beautiful area to look beyond the forest into the valley over the Lipno reservoir. Pure relaxation in the forest.
Mirko L. — Google review
Nice hike up the hill (or take the ski lift) followed by a beautiful clim up above the trees. Great views, and nice slide down (you can also walk back down).
Moty Sahray — Google review
There is an option to walk but the path is not really walkable. The entrance fee is kinda pricey that make your expectation high. But it is still a nice place to visit when you are in Lipno. Just make sure to wear the decent hiking shoes if you want to take the path by walking. You might as well want to bring enough drink and snack when you hike there. With adults speed, approximately takes about 40 minutes to walk up and down.

it's worth visiting. Fantastic attraction for families and solo travelers. And don’t forget to experiment the toboggan.

Memorial & museum at former Nazi concentration camp, with visitor center & audio tours.
So much memories in this place, just take a strong heart in discovering and trying to what happened in this place :)

when you enter, it almost seems to see thousands of people and to touch their pain, which we can never even remotely imagine. you can't help but be moved. the first time I took the guided tour in Italian, done very well, fair and accessible price, the guide is local and explains a lot of background that you don't know... he's also very open to questions and encourages you to ask them. highly recommended… the guides in Italian are only in August, this makes me think that we visit Mauthausen few times and this is very sad. Other times I have visited Mauthausen without a guide, even just to think and every time it is a blow to the heart.

Dear reader in order to fully understand this location you must invest some time in your own education. This is place of ghosts, silent tears and invisible blood. This place represents the very worst of humanity. Please don't be one of those "turists" that's having a casual walk, be one who fully understand it and appreciate effort of preservation of this location. Also keep in mind this location is resting place of thousands persons.

Sobering reflection on a work camp that took the lives of so many.
Clark Humble — Google review
A historical place and best for tourists. Mauthausen was the Adolf Hitler concentration camp to be liberated by the Allies. As of January 1945, the camp had over 85,000 prisoners. Around 300,000 people including jews were sentenced to death using poison gas, hanging, shooting and deadly medicine.
Maqbool Khan — Google review
As an historian it's difficult to explain how after several visits to concentration camps, it never stops to impress. This is no different. It truly choked me.
I did hope to have experienced more about the LGBTQ exterminations, as this lager was one of the forgotten and ignored hotspots for this Holocaust.
Improvements were promised though.

Amazing history! You should give it a visit. With a guide so they can guide you and explain you the story!

This is a good history memories place. All goods available to see in 1933 - 1945. Main related was prisoner. Lived area, punishment ways others. Everything available here

Everyone should perhaps visit this place or a similar memorial at least once in their lives. The free self guided tour is well scripted in English and clearly delivered in a no nonsense way. We left in tears and still unable to understand man's inhumanity to their fellow man.
Fiona Robertson — Google review
Beautiful place. Good to know about this place. But the story was so focused only about holocaust. It would be better with background history. why that idea arised? Then we can learn more about our biased mind.
Minju Jeong — Google review
Visiting this place, where so many atrocities were committed was a raw, anger inducing experience. The memorial does not sugar coat history and for someone who grew up in a typically “white-privileged” middle class lifestyle, it was sobering. That humans could visit such evil, for there is no other word that comes remotely close to describing, upon other humans is unbelievable and horrific. An excellent audio phone app in several languages can be downloaded for self-touring. Descriptions of various locations within the camp are provided for tourists. It is also used for Austrian teens as part of their upper school history curriculum.
Laurie M — Google review
An amazing experience. The museum and displays are tastefully done and tell the story. The audio guide was very well done and informative. Our kids were engaged and interested in the history. Recommend not taking small children as the topics are obviously heavy.
Kirk Chugg — Google review
Cruel part of history, for everyone to see and remember. The site does not charge for parking nor entrance, the signs and the free online audio guide describe what happened, and what must not happen again. You may book a tour if you want to. If you can find an hour or two on your trip, go educate yourself!
Florian Lagg — Google review
This is the third death camp I visit in Europe. Every time it is sick at heart. But I'm sure it is extremely necessary to periodically remind yourself of what happened, what evil a person is capable of and what pain this same person can endure. May peace and love reign in the world one day. ☮️

It was a sad reminder of the holocaust. Two of the ovens used were on display. The barracks that were designed to house 200 people were said to have held 2000. 4 pows to a bunk. It's heart breaking to see what you know was real.
Stift Melk is a splendid Baroque abbey located in Lower Austria, overlooking the River Danube from a rocky outcrop. The towering twin spires and high octagonal dome of the monastery church dominate the complex. The interior is extravagantly decorated with numerous smirking cherubs, gilt twirls, and polished faux marble, creating a dramatic baroque atmosphere.
Very beautiful! Quiet on a Sunday. 1 hour parking was just enough to see Stift Melk and walk down to old town for 10min.
Absolute shame that the inside of a Baroque church is closed off to the general public instead of its art being able to be appreciated by everyone as intended.

The Melk Abbey is a must visit in this part of Austria. The public parts of the Abbey can be visited by yourself or in a guided tour that takes you through an exhibition, some state rooms, the impressive library, a terrace and the magnificent church. The exhibition gives information about the order and the abbey in a very thoughtful presentation. The staff is friendly and efficient. The buildings are a marvellous example of baroque architecture at its finest. You can also walk around some very pretty court yards and well maintained period gardens. The entire complex and visitor’s approach is incredibly efficient. There is also a good restaurant on site.

Gardens are very pretty.

My visit to Melk Abbey was a truly enchanting experience that transported me to a world of architectural grandeur, culture, and spirituality. This iconic Benedictine monastery, perched high above the town of Melk in Austria, is a testament to centuries of history and the enduring power of faith.
Exploring the abbey's stunning interior was like stepping into a treasure trove of art and culture. The library, with its ornate frescoes and impressive collection of books, was a highlight, providing insight into the knowledge and devotion of the monks who lived there.
The abbey church, with its baroque design and intricate details, was a visual masterpiece and a place for quiet contemplation. The frescoes and paintings throughout the abbey added an extra layer of beauty and historical significance.
The abbey's setting, overlooking the Danube River and the picturesque town of Melk, provided not only breathtaking views but also a sense of tranquility and serenity. It's a place where nature and architecture harmoniously coexist.
The staff at Melk Abbey were knowledgeable and welcoming, enriching the overall experience. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an art lover, or simply seeking a moment of reflection, a visit to Melk Abbey is a must. It's a cultural gem that encapsulates the grandeur of Austria's religious heritage and offers a truly enriching journey through time. I highly recommend it to anyone exploring the Wachau region.

Melk Abbey is a must-visit. It's beautiful and worth seeing. I recommend going on a sunny day to better appreciate the colors and views. Unfortunately, you can't take photos inside, but it's one of the most stunning churches I've seen, with an equally gorgeous library. Consider taking a guided tour in English, even though it's a quick visit, it's highly recommended.
Judith — Google review
This place is spectacular in every aspect and part. The architecture has great attention to detail and it has been maintained very well.
The church and library are the best part. Inside photos aren't allowed to we didn't take any. The view from top is also amazing, overseeing the Altstadt (old town) and Donau. It is important to follow the noise regulations inside the church.
Everything inside the church was amazing to see.
There are guided tours both in English/German and potentially in some other languages too. If you are visiting solo then try to plan your moving around the abbey in a way to avoid being in same place as the group (gets awkward).
Upon our visit the garden was closed but you wont miss much by not going there. You can read about it on the panorama view terrace though (has some interesting background).
There was ample of parking at the spot. Do not forget to get your card validated at the ticket counter in order to avoid paying for parking.

An truly amazing Abbey. The location is perfect, on top of a hill making it looking more beautiful, big and marvelous. It's difficult to explain with words it's majesty. I would really highly recommend visiting it and the ticket costs only 13€ including the beautiful garden, a gorgeous Library including an stunning view from the balcony.
Doris Karapici — Google review
An unforgettable experience for me to visit the abbey which is rebuilt in 13 century. The building is very convenient to take photos as background. There is also a garden near the build. Unfortunately, we come across a snake in the grass.

A beautiful place to visit. The tour was fascinating. Our guide was very knowledgeable and was willing to answer any questions posed to her. The library is the center piece of the abbey. The view from the terrace was impressive. The garden paths were also a highlight of our visit. So much to see here from the gardens to the abbey. Highly recommend a visit.
Bill Lakie — Google review
The melk abbey reminds me a luxury historical palace. The building is really huge, impressive and decorated. The trip inside is however really short with a little museum of its treasure, the really beautiful library and the amazing church. The church has so many decorations that is almost overwhelming. The ticket is a bit overpriced in my opinion especially because they don’t allow photo in the inside.
Riccardo Gatti — Google review
Visiting this abbey with a river cruise. A beautiful newly renovated entrance garden. Going in with a guided tour, the interior was amazing. The museum showed you some rare artifacts of the abbey. The library contained some of the oldest manuscripts in Europe. Amazingly it is still active and books could be borrowed with permission.
The church was spectacularly decorated. It is still an active abbey with 20+ monks. It is also a private school with ~900 students.
There is also a paranomia view terrace up top the entrance tower above the gift shop. Do not miss it as the view is spectacular.
The visit was amazing and well worth.

We bought the day ticket on the train by selecting Melk as the destination at the machine in our local station. Took about 90 minutes out of Vienna. With every moment. Great souvenirs and shops and restaurants, just a magical location. Don't miss it. Have a beer or a Weiner Eiskskaffee at the pavilion, walk in the garden and take in the view. Brilliant!
Michael de Percy — Google review
Beautiful place! Orderly, clean environment. They place great emphasis on the protection, presentation and preservation of values. Parking is free at the train station. About 30 minutes on foot to the abbey.
Zsuzsa Fulop — Google review
Overpriced for what it is. Looks better from the outside than does inside. €13 to go in about 10 rooms, all filled with massive tour groups inconsiderately spreading themselves all over the place. You also "can't take photos" which I have never understood. Why? I've just given you €13 to come inside, everyone takes photos anyway and no one monitors this so why bother?
Jarrod Hunt — Google review
Our tour guide was excellent! She started in the courtyard and gave a great overview of the current happenings at the property. Then we proceed into the museum and they have you walk through the rooms in order. She showed us interesting little details, like the doors in the hallway that feed the large stoves still in each room. The tour goes through the history of the abbey and ends with beautiful photo ops right before the library.

Definitely a great experience. Beautiful abbey with lots of history. We came here while on our Viking cruise. You do need a ticket to get in. Ours was included in the city tour. Beautiful architecture everywhere. Paintings, statues, carvings.... garden... lots to see !

A great place to visit if you are visiting Vienna. About an hour drive from Vienna City. Marvellous architecture. The place is beautiful. You will need to buy tickets to visit inside, which is recommended. However, just note no photography or video taking inside.

The Wachau Valley is a picturesque and noteworthy ravine featuring terraced vineyards, historic fortresses, and ancient monasteries. It is situated along the Danube River and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Krems an der Donau serves as the gateway to numerous vineyards in the area, and visitors can explore the valley via an easy cycling trail or by taking a boat cruise.
Have now traversed the Wachau Valley 3 times whilst cruising on the Danube, and still spot new sights on every visit, The scenery is magnificent, mountain landscapes, fascinating villages, and castle ruins throughout. A place I will visit again and again. See it whilst cruising with a glass of local wine, then return with a bike to see it in more detail.

Melk Abbey is a Benedictine abbey above the town of Melk, Lower Austria, Austria, on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube river, adjoining the Wachau valley.
The abbey contains the tomb of Saint Coloman of Stockerau and the remains of several members of the House of Babenberg, Austria's first ruling dynasty.
The abbey was founded in 1089 when Leopold II, Margrave of Austria gave one of his castles to Benedictine monks from Lambach Abbey. A monastic school, the Stiftsgymnasium Melk, was founded in the twelfth century, and the monastic library soon became renowned for its extensive manuscript collection.
The monastery's scriptorium was also a major site for the production of manuscripts. In the fifteenth century the abbey became the centre of the Melk Reform movement which reinvigorated the monastic life of Austria and Southern Germany.
We are very pleased that more and more new travelers who want to try our service are coming. Thank you all very much for your support and we will try to increase our services even more so that we are available for you all over Europe with local drivers.
