This museum is a huge, interactive model of many regions in Russia. It is incredible to see the detail and how much time has been put into creating it. The museum is busy but well worth a visit for its uniqueness.
A place to relive one’s childhood. A “must visit” in St. Petersburg. The scale and attention to detail is a real delight. A place to visit for all age groups.

One of the best touristic destinations in St. Petersburg and it’s worth the drive. It’s basically a miniature scale model of Russia made with extreme detail and fine craftsmanship. It’s worth the visit if you are with family or if you are interested in the technology behind the model. .

Great experience, the attention to detail is amazing. The fact that even the lights reflect sun rise and sun set while also maintain the time differences over the different regions. Круто

Nothing so special about miniatures exhibited here. I couldn't even see the symbolic buildings of St. Petersburg such as St. Isaac, Savior of Spilled Blood or Kremlin Palace in Moscow. There are, however, lots of miniatures of trains, railways, stations, airplanes, soldiers, military camps and exhibitions about the ordinary city life that you cannot associate only with Russia.
Ahmet ?hsan Kaya — Google review
I'm a big model enthusiast and visited several such displays throughout Europe.
Until now, I regarded the Hamburg one being the best, but now, honestly the St. Pet's doesn't have a match - in one word it's amazing.
I see many people here focus this as a primary kids attraction which I can only partially agree. Kids observe this display as a toy, for me it's a piece of art.
The display is split into two huge sections (west and east Russia) in one enormous room, divided by the central passageway (marks the Europe-Asia border).
Every Russia major city with its landmarks, as well all regions are geographically displayed with millions of tiny objects. Hundreds of moving trains, cars, planes, working plants, mines, oil platforms, ski and sea resorts,....you name it, it's there. Every 15 min the room turns dark and display illuminated showing the night scene which is again amazing.
Unseen attention to details with high technology makes you stare at this in disbelief. Make sure to read the plaques showing the number of something and many interesting facts.
Grand Maket is not in the prime tourist area, but in a residential part of town with nothing else to see around, but worth every effort coming.
Dejan Braki — Google review
This place is absolutely unbelievable! It is giant, and half of the time we were wondering how people can have so much patience to actually create something like this. The place was pretty crowded, but it was worth visiting because it is an unforgettable experience. Little details on the model, such as trains, are moving, and the it just invokes questions of how it functions. The model is still expanding, and we will definitely return again to see the progress.

Really nice model of Russia that we absolutely loved! Spend at least an hour here.
From the simulated sunrise and sunset to all the details that are captured (like the types of cars, trees, animals, etc.), this was a great place for us to get an idea of what we'd see on our trip across Russia.
Kris Chari — Google review
Perfect place to see main Russian sights and features in short time. The maquette is huge and has interactive parts. This will be interesting for children and grown ups as well. The maquette can be explored for long hours, because it has tiny and very accurate models. I have found an easter egg there - a white car from Taxi movie.
Public transport, trains, cars move and represent daily life. There was accompanying sound for different kind of activities.
I liked that there was day/night change.
Strongly recommend to visit it to anyone who is going to Saint-Petersburg.

It was a great experience in this museum where you can have a overview how Russia looks like. Everything looks so real even some small details. I am pretty sure you will be impressed and excited from all the city models of Russia no matter how old you are (children, teenager, mature, elderly...). I am really recommend this for anyone and this museum is some kind of saving your money to explore the Russia instead of using helicopter, hahaha

This art museum is located in the Mikhailovsky Palace, a neoclassical building in Saint Petersburg. The Russian Museum has a collection of 400,000 exhibits and presents the history of culture for more than 1,000 years. The museum houses paintings, sculptures, icons, and other works from the 12th century to the present.
Amazing 😍 you can sit and taste an unbelievable quiet in the middle of the city centre

Along with the Tretiakov gallery in Moscow the largest complete collection of Russian fine art. The panorama of artworks unfolding since the 12th century to the present day. Apart from the Mikhailovsky palace the museum's collections are also located in the Marble and Stroganov palaces, as well as in the Engeneer's Castle, where a gallery of historical portraits is seen. It takes a couple of days to visit all collections.

Beautiful museum. Went today and it was wonderful to be free of crowds. The building and setting are lovely. Staff speak English, which is helpful when you get lost and can't find the cloakroom. Highly recommend

The museum hosts paintings, sculptures and other artifacts mostly from 19. century. This is the place where you can see the traditional Russian art and paintings. Pity to see that Russian art reached its peak in the 19th century and halted as soon as the Soviet revolution took place. At least they preserved their finest collections and present in this museum.

The first museum I visited in Russia. Lot's of incredible masterpieces that will just amaze you. The tour guide was just a delight to listen to; his English was just impeccable. Made some new friends and that day was a good one I must say...💃

It was more crowded when we visited in late May last year. This year, in early May on a Monday (when Hermitage is closed), it was not as crowded as we anticipated. The audio guide in English was again very useful. It was cold outside so we wore our down jackets which had to be deposited in the cloak room. Although the art here is wonderful, my pet peeve is that after one finishes one's visit, which usually ends at the Benois wing, one has to re-trace our way back to the beginning (in Mikhailovskiy Palace) to return our audio guides and collect our jackets. Wished there was a better way that did not require back tracking!

A beautiful building centrally located in St Petersburg, with a good fine art collection varying in periods. The building and the interiors are absolutely gorgeous. This is a great museum to visit in addition to the Hermitage. The coat check is very efficient (a necessary step when visiting) but the bathrooms definitely left something to be desired.

A must see in St Petersburg. The building and the artworks are monumental. A good glimpse into Russian art and culture through the various historic stages of the empire/union/federation. A full day is needed to see everything, if not a few. Make sure you don't miss the main collections on the second floor.

The complex of several different remoted objects. The main part - Museum of Russian art in this Mikhailovsky palace - is second to Hermitage as a main museum attraction and second to none as an art museum. I do recommend for every classical art fan!
Eshcho Odin — Google review
Museum filled with impressive and versatile arts. You start with super cool classics like Semiradsky, Vasnetsov, Shishkin and Aivazovsky, continue through statues and portraits, go through some more modern and weird things, and end up with royal furniture and old Russian utensils. Sometimes some of the key items are out of there, so maybe need to check up beforehand (I visited the place twice and never saw the Ninth Wave painting, as it was in Japan and Spain along with other paintings). A lot of information can be obtained with your smartphone, the personnel is polite. This is definitely one of Saint Pete’s must sees.
The massive Summer Garden, located on the banks of the Neva River, was first developed by Czar Peter in 1704. It features a beautiful layout of walking paths and statues depicting historical figures from earlier days. The garden is popular for its panoramic views of the river and nearby St Petersburg skyline.
A place of rest and relaxation in the very center of the historical part of the city, where among the trees you can hide from the sun and the noise of the streets. There are many benches in the park and there is a cafe. A great place for weekend gatherings among the trees and a break from the hustle and bustle.

Centrally located so easy to work into your tourist walk around.
Lots of great sculptures, although not the originals. Fountains, etc.
In the southern part of the park there is a small lake with swans.
The restored park looks great, but in a way I preferred the more old rugged look it had before. Still, come and see and relax in the shade.

Peter's summer garden is truly a beautiful place to hang out with friends or family. It has well maintained vegetation & garden areas, a pond at the front with ducks & swans, fountains & a couple of places for coffee & ice cream. It has a free entry. Not many options to eat inside.

Established by Czar Nicholas I, nonprofit renovated theater presenting dance & opera performances.
【described in 2019】
The Mariinsky Theater is more popular with foreign tourists, but this theater has somewhat more relaxed and lovely appearance that the locals love. Unlike the other big hall, the distance between the stage and the audience is wonderful. In recent years, both the exterior and interior have been renovated and modernized.
The name has been changed several times, and in 2007 the theater settled on its current name -back to the name it had when it opened in 1833-.

This is a multicolored church that was designed in traditional Russian medieval style. It took over 20 years to be completed and it features 7,500 square meters of mosaics on the walls and ceilings. The building is impressive for its strict architecture, but it seems like a toy from afar due to its bright colors.
Cathedral On the Spilled Blood, Saint petersburg
This place is one of the main center of Russian orthodox Christianity. The orthodox Christianity is bit different from roman catholics. Different rituals, different patriach and different design of church.
This cathedral is one of the most cathedrals in the world. The decorations both inside and out are beyond anyone's imagination. The mosiac walls are common in middle eastern churches but it's interesting to see this art reached far north in russia. Its very interesting to how they make an image with small stones of different colors. Its a pain staking job and the final result is breathtaking.this is something like pixels on lcd screens.
Origins of orthodox Christianity is in Israel (Infact Judaism, Christianity, Islam all have roots in jerusalem) then to holy roman empire in istanbul and eventually found its way to Russia.
My effort to capture the beauty and detail with a mere mobile phone is definitely futile as nothing can compensate the beauty of this place but the human eye.

Chirag Bhoraniya — Google review
Excellent facade of the church which was grand and exquisite. Unfortunately the church was not open to visitors at the time of visit. The church was erected on the site where political nihilists assassinated Emperor Alexander II in March 1881 and that gave rise to the name of the church
CK Cheong — Google review
As this Church much reminds on St. Basil's in Moscow it's not that old (neither is St. Pet as a city), but it has a very interesting history and breathtaking interiors which make it a must visit site. History facts:
- it was built in 1883 to commemorate the place of Tsar Alexander II assassination in 1881 - therefore "spilled blood",
- the Romanov imperial family funded the project,
- in order to house the exact place of assassination inside the Church, they narrowed the canal,
- after the 1917 Revolution overthrowing the Imperial regime, it was looted and semi-destroyed,
- WWII and Leningrad siege brought further destroy and it was turned into a morgue,
- after WWII Communist regime banned Church services likewise in all Russia, making it a warehouse,
- it was rebuilt during the 90's and reopened in 1997
- toady it's not a working Church, but the world's biggest mosaic museum with over 7.500 sqm of amazing artwork.
- photography is allowed, entry fee around 8$

Kazan Cathedral or Kazanskiy Kafedralniy Sobor (Russian: Каза́нский кафедра́льный собо́р), also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan, is a cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church on the Nevsky Prospekt in Saint Petersburg. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Kazan, one of the most venerated icons in Russia.
Construction of the cathedral started in 1801 and continued for ten years under the supervision of Alexander Sergeyevich Stroganov.[2] Upon its completion in 1811, the new temple replaced the Church of Nativity of the Theotokos, which was disassembled when the Kazan Cathedral was consecrated.
The architect Andrey Voronikhin[3] modelled the building on St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.[2] Some art historians assert that Emperor Paul (reigned 1796-1801) intended to build a similar church on the other side of Nevsky Prospect that would mirror the Kazan Cathedral, but such plans failed to materialize.[citation needed] Although the Russian Orthodox Church strongly disapproved of the plans to create a replica of a Catholic basilica in Russia's then capital, several courtiers supported Voronikhin's Empire Style design.
After Napoleon invaded Russia (1812) and the commander-in-chief General Mikhail Kutuzov asked Our Lady of Kazan for help, the church's purpose altered. The Patriotic War over, Russians saw the cathedral primarily as a memorial to their victory over Napoleon.[3] Kutuzov himself was interred in the cathedral in 1813; and Alexander Pushkin wrote celebrated lines meditating over his sepulchre. In 1815 keys to seventeen cities and eight fortresses were brought by the victorious Russian army from Europe and placed in the cathedral's sacristy. In 1837, Boris Orlovsky designed two bronze statues of Kutuzov and of Barclay de Tolly which stand in front of the cathedral.
In 1876 the Kazan demonstration, the first political demonstration in Russia, took place in front of the church. After the Russian Revolution of 1917 the authorities closed the cathedral (January 1932). In November 1932 it reopened as the pro-Marxist "Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism".[4] or, as one contemporary writer put it more baldly, "Leningrad's largest antireligious museum", complete with Spanish Inquisition waxworks . Services resumed in 1992, and four years later the cathedral was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. As of 2017 it functions as the mother cathedral of the metropolis of St. Petersburg.
The cathedral's interior, with its numerous columns, echoes the exterior colonnade and is reminiscent of a palatial hall, being 69 metres in length and 62 metres in height. The interior features numerous sculptures and icons created by the best Russian artists of the day. A wrought-iron grille separating the cathedral from a small square behind it is sometimes cited as one of the finest ever constructed.
The cathedral's huge bronze doors are one of four copies of the original doors of the Baptistery in Florence, Italy (the other three are at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, United States, at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, United States, and at the Florence Baptistery itself).
The Kazan Cathedral is considered to be the model for the neoclassical style of Helsinki Cathedral, one of the most iconic landmarks of Helsinki, Finland.

When i see the church first i thought its a government building. Outside look as that. But when you enter it there was amazing church inside. Well decorated arts around the wall and the roof. Big dome too. Its free entrance church. Many people are going to see the church.
The Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines is a small but impressive museum that offers visitors the chance to play vintage video and table games from the Soviet era. The space is well-maintained, with each machine restored to its original condition. Descriptions of the machines, their designers, and game mechanics are available in both Russian and English. Alongside arcade games, there's a cafe serving drinks including Kvass from authentic Soviet era soda machines. Admission costs 450rub per person and includes coins for gameplay.
I loved that they give you coins to play with the arcades. Next to every arcade there is a description of the game and the year of release. Nearly everything is written in english and russian. There are also consoles such as sega and Nintendo64. Upon arrival you are giving short instructions. Possibly to get drinks as well.
Jaime Chacoff — Google review
Ironically for a Soviet era games machine experience, a third of them weren't working on my visit, including my favourite, pin ball. Otherwise the concept is great and worth a visit.

A really fun place for kids. It’s still a great place for an adult to visit, but you’ll see everything pretty quick. From Soviet-era arcade machines, smells from that time, and Soviet cartoons playing in a room. You can see (and smell) what life was like for kids during this era. Some of the games where hard to play while others were fun enough to play a second time. A good place to burn an hour or two!
Brett Hamilton — Google review
Can't recommend it highly enough. Really fun way to spend an hour or two, playing old Soviet-era arcade machines, which have all been lovingly saved and restored. The space is cool, the games are fun, each has a great description of the maker, the design and the game mechanics in Russian and in English (slightly abridged). There's a cool cafe and Soviet era soda machines that dispense Kvass and other drinks. Entry is 450rub per person, for which you get a bunch of coins to play the machines.
Gavin McGinty — Google review
A fun place to go and visit if in St Petersburg. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, gave a good explanation of all the things there. Some of the machines weren't working, which was a bit of a shame, but can't be helped. Was interesting as an outsider to see all the games that were played in the USSR. If you're a gamer and in the area, I would recommend going - very cool as well to use the old Soviet coins to pay for things.
Dominic Lee — Google review
Even though the name of the museum is what originally hooked us, the name actually sells it a little short. While they do have a huge unique selection of Soviet-Era arcade machines, they also have many other things from that era including a unique exhibit where you can smell things from that time, listen to things, try drinks, etc. How the arcade portion works is you pay admission and receive about 15 Soviet era coins to use in the machines. I believe you can buy more as well. They also come in a unique match box to hold while you play. “Technically” you are supposed to turn in the remainder coins as you leave since they aren’t in circulation any more, but no one really seems to care if you want to keep one as a souvenir.
They also have free Wifi, coffee and snacks, clean toilets and a small selection of things to purchase.
The selection of arcade machines is good, although they aren’t always in perfect repair, but that is part of the fun!
Reed B — Google review
I knew nothing about arcade games from CCCP times, but this was two hours of quality time.
With your ticket you get a matchbox with bunch of original coins from soviet time. You can use them to play any of the games. 1 coin = 1 play. 90% of the games are in very good working condition, other ones are under maintenance.
Staff is very patient to explain to you how the museum works, coins, games, etc.
Must visit if you are in St. Peterburg.

Super cool place, with a coffee shop atmosphere. Seeing these machines and getting to play them was a trip back in time. I loved the machines with the vacuum tubes that could light up as numbers for your score.
I definitely recommend getting a soda from the old Soviet soda fountain. The cream soda was actually incredibly delicious.

The place was fun and it was a good experience to try the old games, i really enjoyed playing there and what i like more is using the old coins of soviet as tickets and if u didn’t finish all the coins on the same day you can use them later on in any branch.

The Pushkin Apartment Museum is a museum dedicated to the life and work of Russian poet, Nicholas Pushkin. The museum contains displays on Pushkin's life, memorial apartment and 19th-20th century art collection. Pushkin's personal artifacts, including a lock of his hair and death mask, are on display in the apartment.
Wonderful place to know more about the last days of this wonderful poet. It took around 1hour to see the whole museum. They provide audio guide in several languages and it is included in the entrance ticket, which is super cool because you can hear the whole history of Pushkin's last days.
Dary Saura — Google review
What a wonderful place to learn about Russia’s greatest poet Alexander Pushkin. This museum is located at the poet’s apartment. Visitors can only enter the museum with a tour guide or an audio guide paid for at the entrance. Inside the museum, visitors learn in detail about Pushkin and the last four months of his life and his tragic deaths.
Sarah Al Motairi — Google review
I love Pushkin. I love the museum.
Rude staff, they are bit aggressive when making comments that you stay too long, too close, don't touch, don't go there, its not allowed to step on the carpet...
I was unlucky to get inside along with college students. They seemed to be bored of being there and I "enjoyed" a river of rude comments of those old ladies.
Nightmare!
There must be a better way to protect exhibit.
And take audioguade, its better...

Pushkin was a beloved Russian author, who died from fighting a duel. The museum is of his apartment and artifacts. You wear a headset that guides you thru the different parts of the building. It also tells about him and his family, and the events leading up to his death. You can't take photos inside, but there is a lovely garden, with a nice statue of him. Many people have there photograph taken in front of the statue.
Ian Elliott — Google review
the staff were very kind, and this place can educate you a lot on Pushkin's life. you will be able to see his handwritten work and illustrations, along with his old furniture. I have lived in Saint Petersburg for almost a decade now, and it was very interesting to learn about the culture, and go more in depth and learn about one of the greatest poets. I recommend for any tourists, since it isn't crowded, and you can get an audio guide with many languages. prices are also suitable. it is free for students.

I suggest you to come here and see the last place where Alexander Pushkin leaved before his last duel. Especially this place is good in winter, because it will add you feelings of that time. You'll be impressed by huge number of things that were saved till now. And, of course, you'll get something new from the life of the great poet, who made too much, but lived not enough.

The General Staff Building is an imposing neoclassical building which faces the State Hermitage Museum and the Winter Palace on Palace Square. It was built between 1819 and 1829, to commemorate Russia's victory over Napoleon in 1812. The building has two wings separated by a magnificent triumphal arch, and contains some marvellous statues perched atop of it.
Very impressive building, lovely combination of old and modern. Immaculate condition.
Situated at the heart of a square, stands the Alexander Column - an extraordinary monument that commemorates Russia's triumph over France during Napoleon's reign. Constructed between 1830-1834 under Nicolas' instructions, this iconic monolith is crafted from a mammoth polished pink granite and stands tall at 47.5 meters with its pedestal accompanied by Boris Orlovskiy's Angel figure.
Great meeting place to start your adventure into the hermitage. Costumed characters
Expect a good tip for photographs. Respect the local custom. They’re trying to make a living too.

Special column in a beautiful location.
In itself I don't think the column is anything special, but in combination with the immediate impressive surroundings of the Palace Square, the Hermitage and the General Staff Building, it is indispensable, even if only as a 'meeting point'.

It's very likely that you will visit the hermitage meuseum if you are in st petersburg. This monument is right outside the museum and it's quite impressive given that the massive column is standing alone on it's own weight without being fixed with any mechanism. The area is very scenic and perfect for photography. Definitely should check it out.

one of the most tourist attractions in St. Petersburg which is located in the middle of the palace square facing winter palace and the Hermitage at the same time. it is amazing to visit this column which is apparently made of just one granite block and it stands at its place by its weight. i suggest strongly to visit this square and enjoy the vivid atmosphere of it. have fun there :)

An impressive column of marble, carved from a single block that is prominent in Palace Square. Notice the detailed relief sculptures on the 4 sides of the pedestal. Apparently, it's not fixed down, just stands erect under it's own weight!
Vincent Oliver — Google review
One of the interesting things to see at Palace Square in St. Petersburg is the Alexander Column which is situated in the centre of the square between the Winter Palace and the Building of the General Staff.
The monument was constructed between 1830-34 by French architect Auguste de Montferrand and is named after Emperor Alexander I who ruled Russia from 1801-1825. It is red granite and 24.5 meters tall, topped by a statue figure of an angel holding a cross.
The pedestal is quite decorative with bas-reliefs on each side. The column is flanked by two lamp posts and there is a cast iron railing around the monument. Collectively, it makes for an attractive monument arrangement.
In the end, if you enjoy monuments, this is a nice one to see. You can take nice pictures by standing right in front of the General Staff building. Here you see the Alexander Column in front of the Winter Palace building.
The centrally located Palace Square is the perfect place to experience all that St. Petersburg has to offer. With its impressive architecture, lively atmosphere and gorgeous landscape, this is a must-see destination for tourists of all ages. The Alexander Column stands proudly in the square as a symbol of victory over Napoleon's armies, and it is worth visiting just to take in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city.

Culmination of glory and power of 18th century czars era of Russia. All palaces around the square are visually magnificent and serve as museums nowadays. The square itself is large and home for several big gatherings. Also often street artists have their shows here or nearby. On my first day in Saint Petersburg, I was just rambling around Nevsky avenue and walked about 1.5 km to the place square without realizing that it is popular landmark. For a moment, it felt it is a touristy spot, so checked on google and it happened to be Palace Square right opposite to the State Hermitage Museum. I was stunned to see the massiveness of the whole square. You will find a lot of street musicians out there. Please do not forget to capture panorama shots of the square. It is worth watching.
The Museum of Political History of Russia traces the history of Russian politics from Catherine the Great to the present day. Highlights include documents reflecting events from the French Revolution, legislative activity of Alexander II, coronation of last three Russian emperors, and origins and evolution of social and political movements in Russia.
A very thorough museum of the history of Russian revolution and the political history before and after it. The Hermitage Museum is the largest and oldest museum in Russia, housing an immense collection of art spanning from ancient Greece and Rome to contemporary times. It's a popular tourist destination, with queues often stretching down the street, but is well worth the wait.
You have to take a few days to see everything on the Museum, it is huge! It is not by chance that the people took power in the past, the palace is huge and very incredible, with a wealth of details. I strongly recommend the visitation, just includ in your tourists plans and go!

Perfect for spending a cold winter day indoors, immersed in art and history! The tickets can be purchased online. Need separate tickets for separate buildings though... Or a combined ticket for the whole complex. Excellent service, old ladies sitting on chairs in the corners of various halls are very helpful. Lavatories are very clean, the Hermitage Cafe is a bit pricey, which is normal. The gift shop has a wide variety of products related to the museum and the art. But you need literally 10 years to enjoy each and every one of the art pieces exhibited at the Hermitage, so wear comfortable shoes! 😁

We visited the Hermitage just because it is one of the most known places in the world. It is truly grandiose, though. The exhibition is marvelous and everything is organized. One crucial tip: ensure you're well-nourished before embarking on this artistic journey. The museum doesn't offer on-site dining options, and the extensive exploration can be quite energy-consuming.

The Winter Palace, a waterfront residence once occupied by Russian emperors, features grand state rooms and a colonnaded structure. It is a smaller and tranquil component of the Hermitage campus, accessible from the Embankment. Inside, visitors can explore rooms that belonged to Peter I along with his personal belongings. This cathedral is an active church where you can go to the service, the time and days need to be specified. The cathedral itself is an architectural structure built in 1818-1858, the cathedral survived the years of the war of 1941-1945, near which potatoes were grown. You can get to the museum part inside the cathedral with a ticket at the entrance at the box office or online on the website, and there is also an additional opportunity to enjoy the view of the entire central part of the city by climbing the colonnade - an observation deck and take cool shots against the backdrop of the city.

St. Isaac's is still the world's largest Orthodox Shrine (the bigger future one in Bucharest is not yet finished) and the fourth largest Cathedral in the world.
It was built in 1858 by aristocracy funding in honor of Isaac the Dalmatian who was a patron saint of city founder Peter the Great. They didn't spare which is visible from outside and specially inside.
The exterior is adorned with a huge golden dome (which later inspired the US Capitol) and a total of 112 single hewn pink granite columns (you can see a movie and a model of building inside).
The interior is simply amazing, so lavish and rich it's hard to say what's more beautiful.
As all others in Russia it was banned for religion during the Communist regime and converted into a museum. Interesting fact is that St. Pet citizens refused being a Church again on a referendum, so it's still a museum (an outstanding one) with only occasional Church services.
As in any museum there's an entry fee, with a separate fee if you want to climb the dome, which I strongly suggest for great views.

One of the best cathedrals I've ever been to. Remarkable architecture. Amazing exterior and interior.
The panoramic view from the top of the cathedral is indeed remarkable and It offers a magnificent view over the Neva River, the St. Isaac’s and the Palace Squares as well as the Peter and Paul Fortress.
Make sure that you take into account the fact there is no elevator that could take you up there and will have to mount 262 steps of the spiral staircase by foot. You will be 43 meters above the ground and it could get windy.
Saint Isaac’s Cathedral is an absolute must-see tourist attraction in Saint Petersburg. I strongly recommend that you go and see this masterpiece with your own eyes.
St. Isaac's Cathedral was originally the city's main church and the largest cathedral in Russia. It was built between 1818 and 1858, by the French-born architect Auguste Montferrand, who was building it for 40 years. Monferrand passed away a month after he finished the creation to which he dedicated all his life..It was one of the most impressive landmarks of the Russian Imperial capital.
To decorate the interior it was necessary 882 lbs of gold, 16 tonnes of malachite and a thousand tonnes of bronze. The mosaic area took 7108 square yards. The exterior strikes with its imposing appearance, the effect is created by the massive columns and the huge dome (it later influenced the design of the Capitol in Washington, DC). The dome is gilded with 100 kilograms of gold. The golden dome can be seen from any part of the city, and in clear weather, even from the outskirts.
Currently functions as a museum with occasional church services . It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great, who had been born on the feast day of that saint .

The Peter and Paul Fortress is a historical landmark in Saint Petersburg that has been restored many times over the years. It is from its star-shaped defensive fortifications that the city slowly spread out around it. The fortress also contains a museum about the early city, as well as a cathedral.
Don't underestimate this stop on your St. Petersburg trip. Its fun, refreshing and educational (as is everything in this historical city). Stunning inside, and they did a mock sea battle in little boats which was very entertaining. Definitely do this!

Peter and Paul fortress is set on a tiny Hare island on the Neva river. It is the birthplace of the Imperial capital, as the city founder Peter the Great built a star shaped fortress here in 1703 from where the city started to grow.
The primary purpose of the fortress was protection against the Suedes, but actually never served for that. Instead, it was a political prison.
Today, it's main attraction is the same name Cathedral where the Royal Romanov family is buried including Peter the Great himself, as well the famous Catherine the Great.
Apart from that, there are several museums across the island which you can visit according to your liking.

It is on a small island. about 15-20 mins drive form St. P main city centre. depends on traffic, maybe longer. Takes about good couple of hours to have a look at this place. Various kinds of museums are in this place.

One of the best places to have a glance of night view of St. Petersburg. The shore near to the Fortress looks directly to the main attractions such as Hermitage, St. Isaac, Yusupov Palace and many more. Must visit.

I took a helicopter ride, ~50eur 15min. Totally worth it. I definitely recommend the ride. The waiting time is no longer than 15min and it offers a really cool air point of view of the fortress.

What a grand fortress. 2.5 km from Nevsky ave, it is located on an island across Neva River. I walked up to fortress from my hotel at Nevsky avenue and enjoyed the sightseeing all the way to my destiny. You can snack on some ice cream and have beverages. There is a convergence of people every day. You can take tickets to the cathedral which costs about 500 rubles but it is worth spending. Glittering chandeliers and colourful art of the cathedral makes the whole experience exclusive. Usually, it is closed on Thursdays.
This place is highly recommended to visit. I give it a thumbs up.

I am not a big fan of history and arts but this place is exceptional, I spent more than an hour in this cathedral alone, not to mention the other sites. You will need 4 hours at least to see (not to experience) most of the sites in the fortress. Cathedral is a must

A good visit to close up to this iconic landmark. It's a big fort which you can enter free, with admission fees for the several separate museums. We bought the Combination ticket and still many places required an extra fee, even the toilets!! The cobbled streets made walking difficult. The main attraction is the Cathedral which us impressive like most others. Unique are the tombs of nobility,, notably Peter the Great and the family and 4 servants of last Tsar Nicholas II.
The Peter and Paul Cathedral is a major landmark of St Petersburg, often overlooked by tourists. It is a baroque structure built in the early 18th century, combining features typical of Western European churches. The cathedral is located within the fortress walls, which has never been captured in its history.
Peter and Paul Cathedral stands on a tiny island on Neva river inside the same name fortress. The place is considered the birthplace of the Imperial capital, as Peter the Great built the fortress in 1703, as a protection against Suedes invasion and from here the city started to grow.
The Cathedral is the oldest one in St. Pet, built in 1712. It has a modest yellow Baroque exterior with a very tall golden spire.
The interior is again modest, not that lavish and decorated like the St. Isaac's or the Kazan Cathedral.
However, the biggest attraction here are the Royal tombs of the Romanov family starting with Peter the Great himself with his wife Catherine I, over Catherine II (the Great) to many others less known.

What attracted me most were those not included in the combined ticket. You need to pay separately.

The oldest church in St Peterburg and a significant landmark. Built in 1712 to 1733, the cathedral is an imperial burial site and houses the remains of almost all the Russian emperors and empresses from Peter the Great to Nicholas II and his family

Must see place, hosting the Romanov families. Where the church is amazing in its decor (Italian style) you see the modesty of the imperial family.
Word of advice: the place is very popular, so come early to avoid any queues.
Do not neglect to visit the jail. The fortress hosts both the Romanov and the cells dedicated to those having contributed to the fall of the family (incl Trotsky).

It was really crowded inside and hard to take in the meaning of the different Czars buried here. I would recommend reading up on the history of the main leaders to get a deeper appreciation. It was very sobering seeing the chapel tomb of Nicholas II, the last Czar of Russia, and remembering how him and his family were murdered and dumped in unmarked graves - finally getting buried here with honors in 1998. I feel this is a very important place of history and would definitely recommend a visit! We went with Alla Tours while on a 24-hour stopover on our Norwegian Getaway Baltic cruise in August 2019.

The Yusupov Palace is a museum and cultural space in St. Petersburg that was once the home of a wealthy Russian noble family. The interior is decorated with only the finest furniture, artworks, frescoes, and tapestries that money can buy, and features its own private theater.
They call it eclectic. For me is just a kitch and vinaigrette. But it is interesting if you love furniture and decor.

Marvellous aristocratic palace in heart of Saint Petersburg.
Absolutely interesting the history of the Yusupov family.
Very well organised tour through the marvellous halls of the palace which host some amazing and unique interiors and ambiences.
Very well organised in terms of accessibility, audioguide and services.
I would have give the 5 stars if they didn't make my pay for the Rasputin exposition part which was actually closed.
Apart from this strongly recommended.

Worth visiting this private aristocracy home that is used as a museum. Lots of amazingly beautiful interior designs from Italian, Greek, France and Russian architects. Enjoy acapela song in private theatre room. But you have to pay for your camera and to enter some private rooms. It is enjoyable but please do not compare this private home with the interior design in the Marseilles castle in France.

According to other palaces in history, this palace stays naive. To learn about St.Petersburg’s history there is good place to visit.
Samil Yalcin — Google review
The place offers variously themed excursions and one can choose the most interesting one. I had a short overview excursion with a brilliant guide first and on a different day visited Rasputin's murder exposition with movies the latter one a visitor can do with its own pace, there is no guide, the movies tell it all. The mansion is really impressive, rooted so deeply in the Russian history, its decoration is stunning.
Helen Kovilyanskaya — Google review
This is a 5 stars palace in terms of beauty and magnificent architecture, but unfortunately the main tour doesn't mention the basement and the murder of Rasputin. Also it has currently 5 rooms closed due to restoration. Although the ticket is expensive, I do recommend the visit, the rest of the rooms are magnificent. But don't buy in the souvenir store, the same items are half price in many souvenirs stores in the city.
Sa Pr — Google review
It is one of the palaces that belonged to Yusupov family before the Revolution. The palace is famous due to Rasputin murder in 1916 organized by Felix Yusupov and his fellow conspirators. There is a reconstruction of murder place in the palace's basement. Among the other somewhat non-typical things in the Palace is the home theatre (180 seats) inside. Overall the palace can be considered for a visit. If visiting be prepared to deal with unusual and rather idiotic rules for visiting and ticketing: some types of tickets do not include entrance to the halls of first or second floor or to the basement (Rasputin murder reconstruction); even with a ticket one can visit the palace only at a certain time (together with a guide), except a ticket with audio-guide that apparently has no time constraints attached.
Denis Shestakov — Google review
One of must visit places. You can buy tickets directly at the ticket counter. You should also see the Rasputin murder scene. They provide a audio guide which you can take with 1000rub as deposit and get money back on return of the audio guide. Clicking photos is allowed.

Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps
This war museum is the largest of its type in the world, and is full of artifacts from the Russian army's history. Weapons, engineering and communication devices are all on display, as well as examples from throughout Russian history. It's a great place to learn about Russian military history, and especially good for kids who love tanks and missiles!
Huge!, One day wasn't enough for me to see it all. I'd really like to go again. It's absolutely the greatest military museum that I have ever seen.
Nick Haynie — Google review
Huge museum, my visit last several hours, a lot to see from knights to the modern artillery
A huge collection of Kalashnikovs is also there, as well as a room dedicated to Mikhail Kalashnikov
There is also a collection of vehicles displayed right in front of the museum
Xavier — Google review
Far bigger than I thought. The museum has a very impressive array of weaponry, not just artillery, from all throughout Russia's history. Without reading any of the signs (all in russian), I still spent around 2 hours here looking at everything. The vehicles out front are also very impressive.
Xavier Palmer — Google review
A place absoultely worth of visiting if you like military equipment.
There are a number of military vehicles and weapons from the Russian empire and Soviet Union era.
As part of the tour, you can disassemble and assemble an AK74 rifle.
The exibition is divided in indoor and outdoor part.
Alen Vujaklija — Google review
The artillery museum was a great experience and one that definitely should not be overlooked. While it's difficult to interpret much of the Russian and foreigners must pay a higher ticket price (just speak Russian and you can avoid this, it's only a few dollars), the experience is worth it. Don't spend too much time in the courtyard or the historical rooms and instead walk through and see what's upstairs. The Kalashnikov, WW2 and Cold war rooms are incredible, with amazing models and hardware that you can almost touch. I would high recommend this to anyone with an interest in military hardware from any era.

Really interesting place to everyone who likes weapons and arms from different centuries and countries, gun collectors etc. Kids will love possibility to climb on old cannons in front of the museum and look on pistols, rifles and other weapons from ancient times to modern. The real must to visit is Kalashnikov exhibition on the 3rd floor. There you can see all weapons this world famous Russian gunsmith created during his career.
They also have rather interesting exhibition about Winter War with Finnish weapons, photos and other stuff used by Finns and Soviets during that war.

Grat museum full of great pieces. Only problem is that everything except a few things is in russian. So if you don't know anything about these vehicles or weapons, it might be lees enjoyable. It is really big, with 4 hours we saw all the things but without stooping to much in the internal exhibition.
Angel Felix Cuellar Villarroel — Google review
The museum is awesome. It really satisfy the thirst of knowing not only about the war history and military developments but also gives opportunity to closely feel the weapons of mass destruction. For the nationals it can make them proud and feel safe, and for a foreigner it may surprise to see such a rich history in military developments. At one place there is a demonstration of dismantling and assembling of AK-47 rifle which is highly popular all over world for its capabilities. It is surprising to see that, such heavy machineries they were able to manage in the display hall all over the museum.

The Zoological Museum, established in 1832 on the banks of a large river, showcases an impressive assortment of amphibians, birds, mammals, and reptiles. In addition to exotic butterflies and moths and a diverse coral collection on display, the museum's focal point is its Hall of Mammoths, which features not only mammoths but also prehistoric creatures like bears and elephants. The museum provides educational opportunities for all ages and offers free entry every third Thursday of the month.

The Kunstkamera (Art Gallery) in Saint Petersburg is one of the most famous museums in Russia, and also has a large collection of archaeological artifacts from all over the world. The museum was founded by Peter the Great in 1714, as a place where scientists could gather to share their discoveries and educate the public. Today, it is home to many interesting exhibitions on different cultures from around the world.
One of the most interesting museums with unique collections in the world! Located in a super old but well-kept building. We were impressed by the Eskimo exhibition created from the things brought from Russian expeditions, you don’t see that in classic history museums, and, of course, the collection of human embryons was breathtaking and spooky at the same time, our stomachs turned up in the beginning but then we were curiously examining just like other visitors.

It was great! I think it's probably one of the best museums in St Petersburg. Lots of interesting cultural exhibits, including the curiosities section which has babies in preserve to explain certain scientific processes. Almost everything has an English text equivalent. Well worth the money.

Actually the first museum in Russia founded at time of Peter the Great. There are so many interesting or novel items for the collectors of that time. Most of the visiters would tell you what do they remember - from the shoes for the bund feet of Chinese women to the specimens of baby freaks. But there are also many other valuable things for example amazing Japanese ivory miniature carving, some pieces of the famous Chinese blue and white porcelain, etc. The museum is free and is closed on Monday. The museum building itself is also a historical monument. There's always a long line to get in so you should go there early.

"Come, look, appraise and believe your own eyes only" is the motto of this museum. A fascinating collection of cultural, religious, hunting, social and dress from regions around the world. Its was like a world tour from the Eskimos, past the Indian tribes of north America into Africa and across Indochina and southeast Asia. There is also the exhibition of "oddities" and other unusual, deformed embryos and animals. The museum is very educational but even if taken slowly, it's an information overload.

Walking distance from metro station and ticket costs 500 rubles. Not so crowdy might due to weekday. Only one polar bear was there. Lion ,Tiger, giraffe are the only big ones. In principle, not a bad zoo, with a number of objects of interest (for example, reptile pavilion), but a city like St. Petersburg deserves much more! * * * Small but lovly zoo, good time for a few hour visit * * *
As a zoo lover i tend to go to new zoo's when ever i can, so while in Peter the Leningrad Zoo was a must for me.
the central location makes it easy to get to the zoo with it being more or less in the middle of the turistic zone of the city.
the entrance fee is 500Rub ~ 7.5USD so it's a very cheap zoo compared to many i have visited.
The zoo itself isn't that big due to it's location but it's still a place you can spend few hours in, some part are under repair to make the zoo more modern while other parts are still "old school" zoo type, the over protective and problemetic metal bars that makes it hard to see the animals even.
all in all it was a nice visit even in the cold season with less people around.

We were really disappointed with the hotel. We stayed for a New Year night (quite expensive), and there were no champagne glasses in the room (not to mention a small bottle of champagne could've been a nice compliment). The room and hotel interior on the whole are rather worn out. But the top of it was when I called the reception to ask why there was no WiFi connection in the room, they told me the room was located too far away from the router (!) I think this is something unspeakable for a five star hotel. Breakfast was ok, though there wasn't much choice on the dessert table.

I booked a stay here on October 15th and a few weeks later there is a sudden spike in covid-19 cases in Russia. I’m traveling on a tourist visa and unsure if my application will be accepted or if the borders will be open by the time my flight arrives. I contact the hotel and Maria tells me I cannot reschedule, cannot transfer and cancellation is a 100% charge to my account. I’m more than willing to pay the difference for another reservation or compromise but there was no attempt. I was told that it was my mistake for not purchasing insurance on my reservation and they will happily take all my money regardless and there is nothing I can do about it while my room I reserved is empty. Do not book at this hotel, they are strict and cold-hearted. I highly regret reserving my room here and I am disappointed because my girlfriend in Russia specifically chose this for us.
