The Zoomarine Algarve theme park in Portugal is a huge facility with slides, pools, an aquarium and more... It's often touted as the biggest attraction around Albufeira, and the zoo here offers much more than the average water park experience.
Absolutely amazing place, especially for families with kids 3-10 y.o. Fun and at the same time cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Dolphins' show was the best. If your child is small enough, he or she could participate in the show during ball game. Pirats' show was also very fun, creative and absolutely amazing.
Everything is done with the idea of respect to nature. A lot of touching moments together with lots of fun.

Water slides & pool are lovely & clean. Dolphin show is amazing. Atmosphere is calm & friendly.
Food is a little pricey & I felt the Pirate show was lacking adventure.
The toilet facilities are good & clean. Lockers are available. You can hire sun loungers & shade - €10. (Or just a lounger for €5)
Parking is free.
I would recommend a visit.

Nice experience and so much fun! The pools were great, just be careful if you go in summer, you probably won't have any space to move. Same thing goes for the food, you will have to wait a long time, specially in the summed but overall, it's worth it

We have now visited Zoomarine 4 times and loved it every time. The place is clean, staff polite & friendly. Everything is well sign-posted. Shows that they put on are always great, educating and fun. Animals are looking healthy and well looked after. The swimming pool is awesome, spacious and warm. Good selection of water slides and rides. Butterfly world is a lovely addition to the park. Will definitely be back in the future.
Dom Ko — Google review
This place is amazing!! We are definitely going again! It is a theme park/water park/zoo! It has everything you need, there is cafes and restaurants and lockers so no need to bring anything just your swimming costume and ticket, highly recommend.
Kate (KK) — Google review
Amazing place, any animal lover will find something for themselves.
Over the whole day, there are several shows of dolphins, seals and sea lions, parrots, birds of prey and tropical birds, so you can plan the visit how you want.
The 🐬 and 🦭 shows were absolutely amazing, go there first in case you want to repeat it later 😀
There is also aquarium 🐠, 🦋 garden and 🦜🐢🦩🐊 habitats, all open the whole day.
The slides are cool too, but the queues are really really long.
I would recommend you to get there early as there is a lot to see 🤩.
Inez Ka — Google review
Was lots to do. There were alot of rides for the kids. It’s nice that there is the zoo and the water park as well as regular rides so you can do all the rides and animals and then relax in the water park. Although it was busy there wasn’t a wait time for anything. We went on a Saturday in the off season so wasn’t bad at all. Really reasonable to get in. Food was very reasonably priced as well.
Danielle Hayward — Google review
Fantastic place. We got the two day pass and it was great value for money. Delicious, reasonably priced food. Nice little rides for the kids. Lots of shows on. Dolphin show was excellent.
Only put a star down as we weren't told that we needed to get a wristband for the second day, so when we arrived the second day, we had trouble getting in. Reception sorted it for us eventually but treated us a bit like it was our fault.
Clare Pittaway — Google review
Loads to do here, the water park is amazing with loads of slides.
The rides here are great fun for the kids.
All the animal shows are amazing. We even did the swimming with dolphins this was amazing. Alot of money but the memory's are there for ever.
Phillip Mears — Google review
Great family day out. Next time we'll bring swimwear so we can enjoy all of the park properly. I would recommend a couple of days as there is so much to do and see. Great shows as well as rides.
Dan Ryan — Google review
Absolutely Fantastic place! The Dolphin show was amazing. The place was clean and tidy. Food was a bit pricey for the quality, but they are always, in these sort of places. My daughter also had the Dolphin interaction in a group, which she liked. It was fantastic to learn about these beautiful animals.
Mabel Younge — Google review
Great place for families with children, a lot of water toboggans, swimming pool, waves pool, you can stay on the grass or on the sand.
Good prices for food and drinks.
In a few words just great for fun in the summer holidays!!
Dan Stoenica — Google review
Great day out for the kids, food tasty and not too expensive. Long queues to be expected for the rides, would definitely need a 2 day ticket to get around all of the attractions. Shows are very good and not to be missed, especially the dolphin and pirate show.
Donna Kelly — Google review
Great little theme park/water park. Only downside was that because it had only just opened for the season there was still parts that were closed. But good thing about this was there was no wait for any of the rides.
Plenty to do for young children, my 2 year old loved the rides he was able to go on.
Vanja Marples — Google review
Worth a family trip , decent park overall. All the shows were good but the Dolphin show was amazing and definitely not to be missed.
Good restaurants offering wide varieties.
Water slides were well maintained and kids friendly .
Ron Parekh — Google review
Great place to visit whilst on your holidays. My hotel was 30minute coach journey which isn’t bad. The shows are great only managed to see the seal show due to the timing for other shows and activities. To do everything would be best over 2 days. Food and drink prices are reasonable. To use the pools and water the lockers are €5 and €5 deposit which you get back once the key has been handed back in. Good ride selection for children and adults to take part also.
Anthony Brotherton — Google review
Very good theme park, most would need two days to explore it all. The dolphin and seal shows are fantastic, it is lovely to see the love and care the trainer's have for them. Also the pirate show is a lot of fun. It's very clean and well looked after, well worth the entrance fee, also the band's that you can put money on are handy so you don't have to carry cash or your phone with you and it's refundable at the end of you don't spend it all. Although it doesn't work on the drinks machine's so you might need cash for them. It's recommended to get there before 10am so you can fit it all in if your only there for a day also there is a very good app to plain your day.

Fantastic place. A must visit for anyone going to Portugal.
Dolphin emotions was unbelievable. Usually I'd be concerned about enclosures but they are spacious and seem very well cared for!.
Kids loved the water park too plenty of options for all ages.
Cara Miller — Google review
Had a really amazing day here with my husband & even though it rained a little it didn't dampen our spirits. The park is immaculate with lots to do for anyone of any age. We arrived for it opening & didn't leave till closing time & I love how much they do for conservation.
Helen Kerr — Google review
Fantastic place. All animal displays were dual language. Videos have subtitles.
all animals looked healthy and happy.
My wife and I had a deal for up to 3 day visits included in our holiday package. You definitely need 2 days to see all shows and exhibitions as well as make use of the pools and fun fair rides.
Nice cool under cover pic nic/food hall area as well as grass and "beach" areas if you wish to be in the sun.
John Smith — Google review
I was unsure about going here as I'm not a big fan of zoos. I was pleasantly surprised. The displays were good, although aimed at a slightly younger audience. The usual lectures about how we humans are bad for the environment etc.
Sam Armstrong — Google review
I absolutely love Zoomarine. I have been coming for over 20 years and every time I am there it brings so much joy to myself and anyone I am with. The care for the animals and the message of conservation and protection for wildlife is genuine and amazing. I will always come back and the growth in their almost 35 years is incredible. Well done Zoomarine, keep saving ocean lives.

We went late in the day yet we still had a wonderful time. Download the app and get to know the map & schedule it will help. Definitely recommend to spend a day there.
Hend H. — Google review
Great place to visit if you're in the region, fun for all the family/here on your own or as a couple. There are amusing shows to attend including a fantastic dolphin show, but with lots of emphasis on conservation and the marine hospital that they have. Great water and funfair rides as well as a wave pool, massive swimming pool and lots of areas to lounge. Definitely worth going to if you're here for a few days.
Ruth Walker — Google review
Fab day out, so much to see and do. The €10 for 2nd day is a great deal. Highlight was the Butterfly 🦋 House, Dolphins and water slides 🐬🐬
Becks Reynolds — Google review
Great day out. We got a taxi here 20/10/23. £72 euro for two adults and a child but well worth it and you will need the majority of the full day to enjoy. The dolphin show is beautiful and there is a bird show too. We had to rent beds for 15 euro which was fine. Little amusement park and we had lunch here too. Great day out.
Albufeira's charming historic district boasts whitewashed structures that house a variety of shops and restaurants. Traditional plazas further enhance the elegant atmosphere of this area. Visitors flock to this sun-drenched paradise for beachside relaxation, golfing excursions, and indulgent nightlife experiences complete with delectable seafood dishes and lively dance floors.
Lovely place, we went in the quiet period, February, still pandemic limitations. Lively enough to enjoy the atmosphere, lovely independent shops, beautiful place.
Kasia Hetman — Google review
Fun and lively place; lots of restaurants, bars, gift shops, and live music. Plenty of spots for ice cream lovers. This area gets really busy in the summer evenings. But still exciting to explore. They have live music in some restaurants. There was live music on a stage by the beach. There is a spot where you can get a taxi. Tonight the line for that was extremely long. I also noticed plenty of places to do hookah. Highly recommend coming here during your stay.
Diana Nunes — Google review
Much nicer than the new town, lots to see and do and seeped in history. You will find the best fish restaurants here. Market stalls and gift shops galore. Very pretty area close to the marina where you can book lots of activities.
Sarah Engeham — Google review
Visited here often during our week stay in April. It was nice to walk around both day and night, browsing the shops and soaking up the atmosphere. Plenty of places to shop and eat in the old town - however, slightly more expensive than local places not located here (to be expected). There was a nice 'buzz' and atmosphere every time we visited. We much preferred this to the new town and 'strip' area. Would recommend.
Christian East — Google review
This place has it all !
Such charm, beauty, friendly people.
You’re always only steps away from restaurants, shopping, groceries, liquor/ beer stores. Beach is very impressive. You can walk for miles and see awesome cliffs and caves. You’re minutes from Strip with nightlife and entertainment. Love this place!

We were staying at Vilamoura and travelled to Albuferia for a few hours. It is a beautiful town with so much to see and do. Everywhere was clean and tidy and the people we spoke to were warm and friendly. The only downside is the large number of British males who visit here for stag does and to get out of there head on alcohol. While I'm sure the town makes vast sums of money from from these sorts of tourists it does spoil the atmosphere.
Peter Stead — Google review
Decent old town with good shops and a few local gems for food but this whole area of Albufeira has been ruined by British people either moving here or coming over in large crowds. Place is full of run down pubs/bars and places selling bland food. Portuguese government need to have a clear out of everyone here that isn't Portuguese.
Nothing Portuguese or cultural about this sadly - not sure what the attraction is going from the home country to another location abroad which is just like home 😐
F_2019 — Google review
Brilliant blend of old and new. Restaurants galore. My suggestion is to go back a street from the main square and the prices go down without compromising on quality.
Night life to suit all ages. My favourite is the Rock Cafe bar in the square. Live bands every night.
David Sanderson — Google review
Albufeira is a very walkable city, from the marina to old town Albufeira, you’ll encounter beautiful views and small nice stores and restaurants. You can also take the Hop-on-Hop-off buses and get off on one of the five stops in or near the city center. Old town has a lot of stores and bars, like Central Station. We had lunch at Restaurant 54 which has a sea view just near the centre towards the marina. Depending on what you’re into, I am sure you’ll enjoy your time here.
Dan de la Cruz — Google review
We went into the old town for the day as we were up by the strip, which I didn't really enjoy. We had lunch in Flavours, by the beach, which was lovely. Then had a few cocktails and had tea in The Square. I loved the atmosphere so much more in the Old Town so if I was to go back I'd look for accommodation there. Live singing in the streets which was fab!!
Susan Livingstone — Google review
Really loved it! Beautiful town.
We went for a long weekend.
There is crazy nightlife if you want it but equally if you just want a nice meal and a few drinks in the evening that's possible too.
Beautiful beach.
Will definitely be returning.
TT F — Google review
I found Old Town super! The novelty shopping, the bars and restaurants, the tunnel onto the beach - all so super. Our family spent a lot of time in this long stretch of shops and restaurants. Night life is also great - noisy for those who don't like noise, but full of life and fun for those who do.
Debbie Fleming — Google review
Absolutely beautiful views, full of pretty streets, shops, restaurants and friendly people. Going to return for another visit before end of our holiday 🥰
Debbie Lindsay — Google review
Albuferia is a lovely coastal city with sandy beaches. A holiday destination with blue sky and the temperature to go with it.
I would have loved if Albuferia kept or stamped the Portuguese identity in history, food, culture to the place.
Disappointed to find that it was almost impossible to find anything Portuguese. The essence of travelling is to be open and experience different cultures, to learn about the host way of life, to broaden one's horizon.
The food I had was void of any taste, bland, uninspiring. Ruined the evening. Period☹️ One positive was the octopus was succulent but tasteless.
But if you want fish and chips, or an English breakfast or a pub "more of the same" this is your place.
Warm, sandy beaches all good.🤣🤣
Ola Durojaiye — Google review
Nice walk, lots of shops and bars etc. Only 3 stars as it was very much the same same with almost every shop selling the same stuff. Other Old towns in Europe (Dubrovnik for eg) 100% more on offer. But that said, some nice restaurants, and beach to cool off in.
Sammy — Google review
Lovely lively place, lots of little shops to get cute bits like jewellery, clothing and souvenirs. Great atmosphere in the evening with music and entertainment.
Julia Pawlowska — Google review
Many restaurants and bars. Nice seaview.
There are some interesting historical remains, but unfortunately the government doesn't renovate enough, so many buildings are in a really bad shape.
Angélique Arnould — Google review
The beach at Old Town is lovely! There are loads of options for food. The market was OK but not much variety between vendors, so once you've seen a few shops, you've seem most of what's on offer.
Nightlife seems good. We went on a Tuesday and it was relatively quiet but enough people round to have a dance and some fun. Would have liked to go on a weekend to compare but didn't have time.
The live music was great! I loved Nuno Ness and the band at Vegas Bar.
Shanna Wratten — Google review
Beautiful old town housing not only attractions but also many restaurants serving world cuisine. In evening the streets are busy with bars and music. On one side is a beach reachable through a tunnel. There are hundreds of the accommodations. Whole day it is busy with tourists.
Praveen Mehrotra — Google review
I came here with no knowledge, went away really pleased, people and atmosphere were great. Everyone is friendly. The old town is great. You have the night life this place is great for solo, couples and families. Feeling very safe, no one pressures you like other tourist places, I love and enjoyed the Algarve region An amazing short time guarantees a return.

The Old town I found more peaceful 🙌🏼 less crowds, bars and clubs. In December perfect 👍 the beach was also quiet enough. Plenty of bars and restaurants around but again more chill and calm in the old town. Beautiful areas and little vintage spots. Up further into the old town there was plenty of Christmas stalls, small little ice rink and plenty of little quirky shops. In around the old town in the middle the shops are more expensive than the ones outside the main attraction spots. Overall hands down …. Old town was definitely for me, especially if your not a drinker 🙌🏼
M L — Google review
Lots of bars, restaurants, music, and excitement. On a great beach. It’s got everything you need. The old cobblestone roads are beautiful and only for walking, no cars in this area. We really enjoyed our time there.

Lovely picturesque town. Good selection of bars, restaurants and cafes. Shops and goft shops too. Beautiful beach with over looking bars
Catherine Nyland — Google review
Nice little town with lost of tourist shops. Got some nice dresses but expensive for what they really are, could get way cheaper in India lol, a couple of restaurants on the beach front and nice sand leading to a cold sea this time of year, lots of waves so you have to be careful.
Pooja Singh — Google review
A great town to explore but good shoes are essential not my 6 inc & 5 inc platforms "duh" and the cobbled streets can be slightly slippery if wet. But that said its a great arry of mixed shops and dinning, and architecture. With hidden places that open to glorious wonderful vistas. You just couldn't know everything in 10 days, I barely scratched the surface.
And the legalisation of recreation cannabis is subtle and very controlled funnily enough, my friend visited the stores. Great art work there.

The beach Praia da Rocha Baixinha is a long golden sand beach located in the east of Falesia Beach, close to Vilamoura. The beach has many swimming spots and a lifeguard service. It's well known for its nickname Praia dos Tomates because of the tomato plants growing by one of the entrances.

Really beautiful clean beach. Miles and miles of beautiful sand. Plenty of cafes along the beach when you need a break. Sea quite shallow but be careful of the strong currents. A good place to try out surfing if you are a beginner as waves not too big. Keep walking along the beach and there are water sports and para sailing activities.

Barreta Island is a secluded 7km-long island situated off the coast, accessible by ferry or boat. It boasts a nude beach and offers a guided tour that takes visitors around the national park with stops at two sandbar-islands, Ilha Deserta and Ilha da Culatra. The tour costs 25 but there is also the cheaper option of just heading to Ilha Deserta for only 10. This uninhabited island features nothing but a restaurant and some beach huts.
Stunning views , lovely walk. Southern most point in Europe. For those so inclined, an unguarded naturalist beach.

Desert Island is 45 min away from Faro with Katamaran or 15-20min with speed boat from Faro city, it’s very nice ride to island and when you arrive there are some stairs you need to take from the boat. It took as around 3 h to walk around the whole island and you have lovely views to see Atlantic Ocean, you will find amazing, huge seashells, nice pebbles, sea stars and many more interesting things. The water was clean and clear with a lovely beach to swim in, just need to be careful with powerful waves. After nice walk and swim you can visit the only restaurant in the island and the food there is amazing and fresh. There is also stunning view next to the lighthouse.

The Barreta island, or Ihla Deserta, is a must see if you are in Faro. We visited in December, but the weather was still great for sunbathing and a swim. You can hike around the island, and stop any time for a swim or to enjoy the view. We got there using the ferry, which was 10€ with return for a 45' journey each way. We found that the side of the island where the ferry left us had better places to swim, as the water was calm, while it was pretty wavy & windy on the other side of the island. As the island is deserted, there is only one restaurant there, which can be pricey if you want to dine in, but we used their take away service and the sandwiches were reasonably priced and tasty.

Lovely isolated beach to visit if you are looking to relax somewhere with few people. You can take the ferry from Faro that costs 5 euros and it takes around 45 mins to arrive or there is a faster option with shuttle that takes 15 minutes and it costs 10 euros.
There is one restaurant at the island but it expensive so I would recommend to bring food if you don’t want to spend more money on food.
There is an option to rent an umbrella with two chairs that costs 20 euros for the whole day.
I think if you are planning to go 3-4 hours is enough to spend on the island!
Beautiful views, the sand is so soft but the water cold!
The Catholic cathedral dating back to the 13th century is a beautiful sight in Faro. The Igreja de Se courtyard and surrounding orange trees are a lovely addition to an otherwise modern old town. At the heart of the city, the Se cathedral is a must-see for visitors to Faro. On top of the clock tower there are wonderful views of Faro and the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
Quite nice to visit. You have access to the cathedral, the upper level with a museum where you can see the cathedral from above, then a garden with a sun clock and 2 small chapels (including one with bones but not very well preserved) and the rooftop. The view from the rooftop are very nice, and you can see the bells.
Sarah Zup — Google review
Faro’s cathedral is a beautiful, tranquil place, a strange but enticing mixture of styles after being looted and damaged in an earthquake over the centuries. It costs €5 for the whole complex. The church is full of interesting features, from tiled chapels to opulent altarpieces, and it is certainly worth the short climb to the upper choir to see the organ up close. There is also a small museum upstairs, plus an external altarpiece made of bones. Climbing the tower gives unsurpassed views of the town and surrounding area, although beware as the first set of steps are steep and badly worn. Usefully, there are also toilet facilities on site.

Lovely Cathederal dating back to 1498. The Cathederal was undergoing essential refurbishment works so we couldn't see the full spenders this Cathederal has to offer. Wonderful view of Faroe from the top of the tower and a big thumbs up to the guy in the ticket office, great sence of humour. 👍👍😃

From outside, there is nothing special about this cathedral. The interior though is a different story. There is so much art and history to make the place a must see if you are in the area. After that, going up the tower is the icing on the cake. Great views all around that stretch from the old town to the ocean.
Tariq Lahyani — Google review
Absolutely stunning cathedral, filled with artistic sculptures and works of art. Your ticket also gets you access to the Tower (great views of Faro), a museum and their bone chapel.

A great view of the unique landscape of the Ria Formosa Natural Park! Church and exhibition were also not bad, but for us rather secondary. 5€ each person is a bit too much.

For €5, it's a lovely little experience with an amazing view. Definitely not for anyone with poor mobility as there are a lot of steps, especially if you want to head up the tower
Kerrianne O'Mahoney — Google review
This Cathedral building was started in 1251, two years after the Christian Reconquest of Faro from the Muslim Moors. It has undergone several renovations and additions since, the last major changes made after the earthquakes in 1722 and 1755. A rather sad historical fact is that in 1596 the city of Faro and the Cathedral were sacked and burned by the English troops of Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex, on their way back from the capture of Cádiz.
The altars and the various chapels are marvelously decorated and carved, some with tiled walls with biblical illustrations. The entrance ticket (€2.00 for the over 65s) also gives access to the tower, from where there is great views of the town, the waterfront and the airport. As we stood there, a white stork flew past on its way to its nest on the roof of one of the nearby buildings.
Across the inner courtyard there is a small bone chapel with skulls (mostly broken) built into the walls.

it's quite old building historically and unique, beautiful from outside/inside. The Tickets is quite fair/cheap, and you can explore inside and outside of it (you can climb on the cathedral tower as well to be able to see the best view from up top. And to take Great/memorable pictures of it plus there is some nice and old cathedral bells. from up top of the tower you can see in almost 360 viewing huge amount of the "Faro City" and all around the cathedral. Definitely worth to explore and check it.

I've been to some cathedrals in my time and for some reason this one blew me away. It's not excessively large or grand or intricate but something about it had me in awe for my whole visit. Man on the desk was very nice and the view from the top was incredible.

Tavira Island is a barrier island located off the coast of Tavira city. Accessible by boat or tourist train, this 11-kilometer-long sandbar boasts stunning Blue Flag beaches with crystal clear waters perfect for swimming. The island features several good beaches and is a popular destination for tourists looking to soak up the sun on comfortable sun loungers. It's also home to restaurants and even plastic bottle banks for fish disposal.
We liked the way you get there. By ferry from Tavira, 20min or so. The island is very green, has place for picnic, restaurants and small shops. The beach is huge, very busy in summer!
Gala DanzaOriental — Google review
The island is approx. 1.5km circular walk. Lovely white sands and clear waters although there were quite a few jelly fish. All your expected beach amenities are there - restaurants, bars sundowners areas for those not wanting the loungers. Relatively quiet in the morning. Got busier in the afternoon.

Ah, Ilha de Tavira, a hidden gem in the southern coast of Portugal, where pristine beaches, azure waters, and untouched nature come together to create a paradise for beach lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.
As I step off the boat onto this enchanting island, I'm immediately greeted by the sight of endless stretches of golden sand and the gentle lapping of the Atlantic Ocean. Ilha de Tavira is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a protected area known for its unique ecosystem of salt marshes, lagoons, and dunes, making it a haven for wildlife and a sanctuary for those seeking a tranquil escape.
The island's main beach, Praia de Tavira, is a postcard-perfect scene, with its soft sands and crystal-clear waters that beckon visitors to take a refreshing dip. As I walk along the shoreline, I can't help but be mesmerized by the natural beauty that surrounds me. Seagulls soar above, and the gentle breeze carries the scent of salt and sea, creating a sensory symphony that soothes the soul.
One of the highlights of Ilha de Tavira is its ecologically diverse landscape. The sand dunes that fringe the beach are a fragile ecosystem, home to rare plant species and a sanctuary for nesting birds. The island's unique environment is carefully protected and preserved, allowing visitors to experience nature at its most pristine.
As I venture away from the main beach, I discover hidden coves and secluded spots, where I can find my own slice of paradise away from the crowds. The tranquility of these spots is unmatched, and I find myself drawn to the sense of solitude and peace that envelops me.
At the eastern end of the island, I come across the picturesque fishing village of Tavira, a place frozen in time, where traditional whitewashed houses and cobbled streets exude an old-world charm. It's a place where time seems to slow down, and the rhythms of life are in sync with the ebb and flow of the tides.
Ilha de Tavira is more than just a beach destination; it's a place to connect with nature and experience the simple joys of life. I spend my days basking in the sun, strolling along the shore, and relishing the freshest seafood at beachside restaurants. Evenings are spent watching the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in a glorious display of colors.
As I reluctantly bid farewell to Ilha de Tavira, I know that its beauty and serenity will remain etched in my heart. It's a place where time seems to stand still, where the beauty of nature and the simplicity of life come together in perfect harmony, creating a sanctuary of peace and wonder on Portugal's sun-kissed coast.

Enjoyed our time on Tavira island,Boat trip was only £2.20 return, with restaurants nearby, comfortable sunlounger ,They even had fish plastic bottle banks
Jessica Kelly — Google review
This is the main beach with the biggest “structure” in Tavira region and islands.
Several restaurants, camping and all beach facilities and services.
You can take the ferry at “Cais das 4 águas” which is much closer than taking it in Tavira center.
This is also the more crowded beach in the area, but once you arrive in Tavira island beach you can walk west to find less crowded spots.

Very nice place. Would recommend bringing some food with you and making a picnic at the beach. The restaurants on the island are a little bit pricey and not of a very good quality (limited option during low season).

Praia do Barril is a unique beach in Portugal that can be reached by crossing a bridge and taking a charming train ride or walking for 10 minutes. This laid-back sand beach boasts an oceanfront "cemetery" where old tuna-boat anchors are displayed, adding to its historical significance. Visitors can enjoy the sight of the Tuna fishery and walk through swamps to reach the beach, making it one-of-a-kind.
Nice beach, with a different way than other Portuguese beaches to reach to. You have a nice path to walk, pass the bridge on the river, and then you can use the cute train to get to beach or walk (takes 10 minutes).
You'll see the historical Tuna fishery, nice anchor graveyard, and can chill on the beach if it's not windy.

A long and spacious ocean beach. You can get there by small train (2€ one way). There are cafe, toilets, souvenir shop, wooden benches, "cemetery" of anchors.

Funny beach where you have to walk between swamps to reach it !
You can take a little train (1,80€/pp) or go simply by foot.
Only the beach of the anchors I imagined it bigger and better !
There are bars at the end so easy to have a drink or even eat smthng!

Beautiful beach, super clean sand and water. It's a little more pricey than other beaches in the area, beds, food drink etc. hence the 4 stars. But actually it has everything you need in one place, so it's great to spend a day or two here. The little train to get there is quirky, very enjoyable. Also it's nice to actually walk to the beach, and take in some of the natural surroundings, and spot the wildlife.
Robin Bass — Google review
Really interesting place to visit. I'm not sure of the full story but I believe it was where the fishermen left their anchors in the sand after the tuna fishing industry started to die out in this area. Very beautiful beach.
Sin?ad Browne — Google review
Long beach 🏖️ with excellent sand and a beautiful track.
There isn't so much free 🅿️ parking there but there is a pay parking 🅿️ that is reasonable.
There is around 1.1km way to get to the beach ⛱️.
You can walk or you can take the train 🚂 that is cheap (2€). I'd rather go walking since the track is beautiful and you can easily watch the local animals that are there like the crabs.

An impressive beach with nice history. To reach it you have to take a small and nice train (5 minutes trip) as the beach is in a natural park.
The only issue is to park near the train.

Depends when you visit!
This beach is all things for all people! Off season it’s empty and, as mentioned elsewhere, it is perfect for walks by the more sedate with wonderful shells to look out for. In season it’s packed with families, couples, friends all making it a buzzing place. A choice of bars, clean toilets, a little boutique or two and a children’s playground for when they’re bored of the beach. Apparently it has had algae/ seaweed at some point - what beach doesn’t? And sometimes it apparently has waves! I’ve never seen either. When you’re knackered from all the fun you can take the little train back to the bridge before the car park. In season it can be a long walk to the car from there!

Lovely beach with a fun train ride for the kids. Great complex of cafes and restaurants just before reaching the beach and the clean public toilets are handy. Parking is along the road can be busy so best to get there early in the day to avoid a long walk to get to the train station. Beach itself was great. Perfect for kids.

Very nice long beach, water was a little rough when we visited. Walk from parking is long, so it’s best to pay the 2 euros each way for the train ride. Also, once on the beach a short walk to the right brings you to a nude area.

Muelle de las Carabelas is a museum that commemorates Columbus' voyage and the art of shipbuilding. It features an exhibit hall and three reconstructed ships, all meticulously maintained. The museum building is beautifully designed and every detail is carefully crafted. Visitors can learn a lot about Columbus, making it perfect for families with children or anyone interested in history. Wheelchair access is available, but access to the boats may not be possible.
This is definitely a must see if you visit Huelva. It's an amazing historical place, the place where Christopher Columbus prepared and start his adventure on discovering new land, known today as America. Inside there is a video room of presentation about this and some artifacts from that time. The attraction point would be the 3 replicas of the boats that Columbus used in his exploration Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. Lovely set up of this place. Woths your time!
Raul Gavris — Google review
Unfortunately we couldn't visit it. It was closed because a hurricane had passed the day before and there had been damage to one of the caravels. We admired each other through the museum fence.

Absolutely in love with this museum!!! If you are in the area is a MUST! The boats are very well maintained and the area is beautiful and peaceful. Once you are inside the museum (building) you can easily see that every single detail has been designed and built with care and detailed oriented. You will definitely learn a lot even if you think you already know a lot about Columbus.
Perfect for families with kids, young and mentally young people.
You can access the museum with wheelchair although I don’t think you can get inside the boats. The access is ok for small strollers.

You always hear the stories of the galleons that Christopher Columbus took to the new world, but it is another whole experience to see it in person. Great experience. This is easy an hour or two of you time if you like reading into the history.

This place is worth a visit, our 3 year old loved to explore the boats and we learned a couple of more facts about Columbus his travels. We’ve seen it all in about an hour, but as it was only 3 euro entry for the 4 of us it was definitely value for money.
Unfortunately a lot of the info was in Spanish. It did show a QR code for additional languages, but all the QR codes were broken and directed to their main website, also in Spanish.
As a side note; Be aware not to get ripped off for parking at the parking lot.

Wonderful place to visit and recall the story book of Kristopher Columbus. Who was claimed to be the discoverer of America.

Comments like: you can't take photos, touch anything, take nothing with you, it happens much too quickly, what nonsense, it is explained in the simplest terms why this is so and is understandable for every clear-thinking person. The negative comments can only have come from egomaniacal minds!!
And it's worth visiting the grotto more often - we always discover something new and inspiring, be it simply the climate.
We are very grateful to be able to visit this extraordinary place, because one thing is clear: the entrance fees hardly cover the entertainment.

The Cathedral of Seville is located in the old part of town, and features a Moorish bell tower with city views. It is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world and was granted World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1987.
Absolutely stunning. A must do when in Seville. Every corner reveals another amazing beautiful area. Gothic designs and lavish black and gold intricate carvings.
Christopher Columbus's tomb stands in prime position within a spectacular structure. Bell Tower is worth visiting for views.
Lovely peaceful atmosphere with plenty of seating to relax, prayer and take in the awe inspiring surroundings.
Many side doors leading to different rooms which can be easily missed.

1* for the official guided tour of the roofs in English (the Cathedral itself is extraordinary and interesting and definitely worth a visit!!). The views were spectacular and it’s interesting to learn about the architecture and history of the Cathedral (and the ‘mushrooms’) but I echo others’ reviews that the guide wasn’t exactly easy to understand and most of time the group were half guessing what the guide was trying to say. The headphones’ bad audio quality (one time use) made it even harder. I also felt like the roofs weren’t more interesting than the interior/exterior that could be viewed otherwise with the general ticket. Note that the guided tour is just for the roofs (no re-entry to the Cathedral or the Tower).

Beautiful religious monument in the heart of Sevilla. We went on a rainy afternoon and this was a great escape from the rain.

Spent a wonderful five nights in Seville in October. Stunning weather 😎 with temperatures hitting 30C. We stayed at the ‘modern’ Hotel Rey Alfonso X within the historic city centre and simply walked every day. Photos simply don’t do the Cathedral justice it is magnificent. NB Ensure you book a ‘jump the queue’ tour to get most from your visit. NB Climb the tower 34 ramps plus 15 steps awesome views.

Breathtakingly beautiful! So much to see, could easily spend 2+ hours inside. Stunning architecture, a lot of interesting art pieces. If you can plan your trip in advance, buy tickets online (a little cheaper - 11euro adult vs 12euro at the door, 6 vs 7 euro for seniors; also can bypass the line). The line from the gate to the ticket booth took about 15 minutes. Admission includes the tower - about 35 flights up, but through a ramp, no stairs, except for the very last flight.

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen from the outside, from every angle. The inside is impressively, cavernously vast as well. The audio guide is a little dull but that may just be me. The orange tree courtyard is nice and there is a tower you can climb for a good view (there are very few steps and mostly just a long winding ramp to the top).

Absolutely loved the Cathedral. I went up to the top of Tower which has amazing views, it's 34 floors high so make sure it is something you can do before you start. The monuments, stain glass windows and the architecture are out of this world. There are plenty of seats for you to sit and take everything in. You don't need to be religious to be taken In by the beauty or any of the interesting history this place holds.

A walk through the Cathedral is an activity that stirs the senses and it's hard to focus on a specific point due to its impressive size and the fact that it's full of glitter and splendour. Such an important historical landmark at the heart of the city. It is a monument not to be missed when in Seville.
The architecture is astounding and full of historical significance
The giralda tower is within the cathedral and has a separate ticket.
The cathedral is really huge. It is a mix of Islamic and Catholic architecture and has many altars, a huge wall with figurines from the Bible and many more holy figurines.
We took a guided tour for 16€ and it was worth it.
The courtyard has blush orange trees laden with oranges.
It has a souvenir shop with nice gifting options
The drinking water is available in the washrooms which are clean.

We did the rooftop tour and really enjoyed it. Our group was only about 10 people, and we got to access areas that are otherwise not available to see. If you visit Seville, please go see this amazing cathedral.

The Plaza de España is one of the most iconic and historic squares in Seville, Spain. It features a large water feature, brightly coloured ceramic tiles on the seats, and an ornate pavilion. The plaza was built in 1928 to host the Ibero-American Exposition, and it features a beautiful mix of Mudejar and Renaissance styles with hints of Art Deco.
This is a fantastic place. If the sun is shining and you have the time you certainly want to spend some time here and even come back a few times to relax and enjoy. Singles, couples, school kids, musicians, tourists, everybody loves this place, and it is for free.
In the morning it is quiet, late afternoon the sun gives it beautiful colors, in the evening with the lights it must also be nice. And the acoustic is great, so the musicians and dancers make it a lovely place.

This is the prettiest plaza I've ever visited. It's a perfect place to people watch, enjoy street shows, or marvel at the architectural beauty. They even filmed part of Star Wars here because of its unique beauty. Aim to get to the second floor of the plaza to enjoy the sunset and overview of the plaza. Skip the boat rides, they're kit worth the wait.

Beautiful place!
You can go to the second floor that overlooks the plaza, which has a great view.
Also, I recommend coming here after a quick stop at a nearby supermarket, in which you can buy some supplies for a picnic. It's a great way to see and enjoy this park!

This is one of my favorite places in Seville. It is a must visit while you are in the city. You can visit it for free and every corner of the plaza gives you amazing angles for photos. What I liked the most was the flamenco show here. The people dancing are very dedicated and they make you feel the real flamenco emotion. Totally recommend it.

Amazing architecture! Spent several hours strolling around the grounds, taking in the sights and sounds! Fabulous parks adjacent to explore too! A must-see when in Seville, Spain!!! The best part is that it is currently (2024), free to enter. Apparently, this may be changing in the future, so get there while you can and enjoy!

Beautiful Plaza and park that is stunningly picturesque. You could spend a few hours walking around taking pictures, relaxing or people watching. Made its game from Star Wars and the best part is that it’s free! Highly recommend as a must see in Seville. It will not disappoint

A must-see if you are in Sevilla! The plaza itself is huge and airy and the giant curved building that surrounds it is stunning. The light at all times of day is quite a sight to see, and the intricate details within the architecture are nice. Sitting by the fountain on a hot evening is a wonderful way to cool off a bit. Highly recommended!

Stunning park about 10 minutes taxi ride from the centre of town. The architecture of the semi-circle plaza is grand and picture-worthy from every angle. Given the time of day we visited (2:30pm), the place was pretty empty because of the heat, but the sunny conditions made for great picture taking. I would say that you need no more than 30 minutes here, but of course if you want to enjoy the nearby park then your stay could be longer. Definitely worth the trip, absolutely beautiful place!

I absolutely loved visiting this place in Seville, more than any of the other attractions. Just roaming the halls, going through the amazing artwork on the walls, all of it felt like such a great experience. Come here first thing in the morning!

Wow! Absolutely beautiful! The Plaza and the Cathedral are some of the best sights in Spain. Highly recommend adding this to your itinerary. There are tours, or you can walk around the property yourself for free.

One of the most impressive places in Spain. An incredibly beautiful and colorful place, showing the whole palette of Spanish cities and regions. Take at least half a day to explore it. Visit it on a sunny day to take beautiful pictures. The complex is lit up in the evening, so you must visit it in the evening. Then there are flamenco dancers and musicians who will make your visit unforgettable. Входът е безплатен.

Beautiful Plaza in Seville, Spain!!! Definitely a must visit! This place is very photogenic and every corner is just beautiful! It is free to enter. We came here in December and it was super HOT! Yes, Hot during winter. Not much to say about this place, but it is a recommended place to visit while you are in Seville. Let the pictures show you its beauty.

If you're in Sevilla, this is a place you've got to do on top of your bucket list. Literally, a beautiful park and plaza, to stroll around and walk, get a nice breather of fresh air.
The semi-circle curved building is absolutely stunning, well kept and has the best scenery you can imagine, just get a peak at the pictures!
Highly recommend coming here early in the morning when the weather is beautiful, the sun isn't too hot and there's perfect lighting to get the most out of it.
Once done from the Plaza, i would also recommend strolling through the park and heading out around. Perfect place, perfect view and unbelievably breath-taking.

A magical place you must see if you are passing through Seville. An architectural jewel that represents each of the places in Spain through its tiles. I had the opportunity to see a flamenco group that was playing nearby and gave a huge plus to my experience. It is definitely an iconic place.

Beautiful and unique monument in Seville with an interesting history. It was built for the 1929 world's fair and has been in use ever since. It's a fun place to wander and look at each city's bench. Entry is free. It's a pretty busy area so early morning may be best for pictures.

My first resort visiting in Seville. One of the best plaza I have ever been. Lots of people gathering around, you can find small booths where you can buy local souvenirs and dancers who performs traditional flamingo.
I was here on Sunday when all public toilets are also closed. Prepare yourself for this urgent situation and you can enjoy yourself all morning or afternoon here.

Probably the best Plaza de España of Spain. It has ceramics artwork featuring each one of the 50 provinces of Spain, and it's especially beautiful at night when there are no huge crowds.
And it's free!
But the canals have been dirtied by people, and our taxes go to this. It should be perfectly clean.

This square is extraordinary. It's by far one of the most beautiful I've ever seen in my life. We were also lucky to have such an awesome sunny day, which enabled us to take these photos. It's mandatory to go there if you visit Seville.

This is an absolute must when in Seville. It is currently free to visit and totally unimpeded. It won't be like this for long as the city is looking to close it off and star charging for entry due to the large number of tourists that visit it. Nonetheless, go and see it for yourself, you won't regret it. But don't bother with the boats, as the majority of people on them don't have a clue of how to row. Nonetheless, its great comedy watching them fail and go around in circles.

We went several times during our visit to Sevilla. One of the most famous spots in the city. I strongly recommend to go there close to the sunset! If you are looking for a flamenco show probably you will find dancers there.

Very nice building and very clean. Easy to get about, IF you like steps!!! If you don't like steps, you won't enjoy this too much.
But very well worth a visit.
Apparently, a few films have been filmed here also...

This place needs no description. And even if I tried, it would be difficult to do so accurately. All I can say is take your time to explore and enjoy this huge square without any hurry. It's absolutely breathtaking. Also take time to stroll through the park that surrounds the square.

Magnificent square with tiled alcoves representing each communidad of Spain, with a large central patio with fountain. The boating lake within the Plaza is very picturesque, with the four ceramic covered bridges. A lovely walk to combine with visiting the university nearby and the gardens. We visited on a Saturday and was not as busy as expected.

The Plaza de España in Seville is a breathtaking testament to Spanish culture and architecture. Its Renaissance Revival style, blended with Moorish influences, creates a stunning visual spectacle, highlighted by the complex tile work representing Spain's provinces.
The plaza gives a perfect vibe, a harmonious blend of tranquility and vibrancy, inviting you to soak in its beauty.
Flamenco dancers add a dynamic layer to the experience, their passionate performances embodying the soul of Seville.
In essence, the Plaza de España is not just a sight to behold but an unforgettable experience, rich in culture and beauty.
La Giralda is the bell tower of Sevilla Cathedral that incorporates a minaret from the 12th century. It is one of the most iconic features of the cathedral and attracts tourists from all over the world. The tower can be accessed by those aged 11 years and over, and includes a 360-degree view of the city below.
Magnificent church and museum, make sure that you don't skip this place if you visit Sevilla.
The Giralda is a masterpiece for any art lover, but it's mostly packed with history and narratives that connect to our modern world.
It's recommended that you purchase your tickets online and ahead of time, usually it's pretty packed, also you have the option to hire a tour guide, rent an audio guide or even use your cellphone as an audio guide, any of those options are fine, but recommended since the narratives will truly make the most out of your visit.
Don't miss the opportunity to climb up the main tower, also check Christopher Columbus Mausoleum along with the stunning views of the chapel.
Pedro Torres — Google review
As i like to say, finish up from the cathedral then head up the tower for the dessert of the view! Keep in mind, it's 30-35 floors up on a ramp (not stairs) so be prepared for that. There are places to stop for a minute and catch your breath, though at the top, the view alone will take it all away again!
Wonderful 360 view sight of Seville from a distance, where modern meet the old and vice versa.
The cathedral on the other hard, like never seen before. Shockingly, when I first entered I thought this isn't what i expected, but when you walk in the main hall of the cathedral, you start to appreciate it quite nicely.
From entry point, all the way inside, keep an eye out on the tainted windows, the ceilings above you and the overall design of the place. Also, walk around in order and look at the beautifully designed walls, Columbus tomb and much more!
Always, book in advance your spots to avoid a line and waiting.

A must do to get out of the intense midday heat! Be warned, you'll be climbing up the tower for a far while and it's pretty steep but worth it.
A really pretty view to admire the cathedral from above and Seville. Pretty busy so book in advance!

A beautiful tower built in the minaret style. It's part of the stunning Seville Cathedral. I would highly recommend leaving some time to go up to the top as it affords stunning views over the city of Seville.
Sudipto Guha — Google review
You need to be physically fit to get to the top, as it's a 35 staircase equivalent (ramps, not stairs, so technically wheelchair accessible, but the incline is steep) up to the top. The views were gorgeous and worth it though! Buy tickets in advance
D Balaban — Google review
Do NOT miss it!
Do it!
Climb it!
You will regret if you don't, and yes this is not that easy if you are not young or not that fit.
This is high but as you climb ramps (around 34 short ramps) and not stairs, and as you can stop several time on your way up at the many windows, you'll be able to do it.
And you'll need patience, not endless but a significant amount as many others will be there, on the way up, on the way down, and especially at the top.
They'll stay quite a long time mesmerized by the stunning views on the 4 sides of this tower.
But it will be worth your time, patience and effort.
Just look at the pictures.

Definitely worth seeing. We paid for the audio tour and it was absolutely worth it too. There is a lot of information and things we would have missed had we not had it. Keep in mind you have to pay in card for it not cash so be sure to have one on you.
Be sure to visit the tower to appreciate the view of the city. However, keep in mind it is a LONG walk up to it. There is only 20 steps at the end and the rest of the tower you go up by ramps but it is something to consider if you have some sort of physical limitation.
There was a long line we had to do to get our tickets because they were sold out online but don’t let it deter you. The line went all the way outside but it only took us 15-20 mins to get through it. The process was super smooth.
Faby — Google review
The Cathedral was nice but the tower was a bit better as you got a nice view of the city. Only issue is the climb. It isn't hard but very slow moving and lots of people/traffic. Otherwise we got timed tickets to go inside. We had no trouble getting into the tower and no line up but it seemed others did. The Cathedral was nice but there are nicer ones in Spain.

MUST SEE ATTRACTION IN SEVILLA! Climb the tower ramps (not terribly steep but kind of long) to go to the top. The view is breathtaking. I dressed modestly (long pants, shirt with sleeves, and closed-toe shoes) due to other cathedrals I had been in, but many people were dressed in tank tops, shorts and dresses and had no problem.
Kiley Preheim — Google review
A cultural experience to behold, but bring your walking shoes! You enter thru the cathedral and head up an incline that's about 30 stories. It's a challenge but definitely worth the trek. The gift shop does sell water at a very reasonable price, so don't be afraid to get a bottle before heading up.
The history, architecture, and views are a highlight of any trip. You can see so much of Seville it's quite an experience!!!

The Giralda is the bell tower of Seville Cathedral.
It is the former minaret of a mosque completed in 1198.
It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It's a bit of a climb up, but we'll worth it.
There are fantastic views of Seville from the top.
Make sure to include when buying ticket for the cathedral.

Pictures can't depict how spectacular this is. This was a definite high point while visiting Seville. We participated in an audio tour with a guide. I don't think that is necessary. We certainly received information we would not have otherwise and we were able to "skip the line" but I think exploring on your own may be a better option.

One of the amazing towers in the world with an incredible view of Seville city! This is one of the highlights & most visited monuments of Seville. It is a bell tower of one of the largest cathedrals in the world. With 37 storeys, the ascend & descend is comfortable.

One of the attractions no one can miss in Sevilla. Buy the tickets in advance and get there at least 10 minutes before your entry time. You first go up the tower (there are no stairs, the whole way up is with ramps) and then visit the cathedral. Take your time, it's the 3rd biggest in the world. We spent around 2h total there. The view from up there is great.
Marcelo Moreira — Google review
Beautiful views, amazing architecture and good value - must do! €12 gets you into the cathedral and the surrounding grounds. Do not miss going up the Giralda Tower - the views are fantastic, also make sure you stop in the side windows and take in some of the unique views of the cathedral and neighbouring buildings! The cathedral itself is rich with artefacts and religious items if you're into that. The intricate workmanship of everything here is amazing and well preserved!
JJ Tran — Google review
Great views of the city and a lovely breeze on a hot day. Climbing this tower isn't as difficult as it sounds although there is no lift. Rather than steps, you climb up sloped ramps, 35 of them as you go up. You could see plenty of elderly people and parents with kids so it is well worth it
Lydia Toshev — Google review
Enter in from the Cathedral and walk up about 35 floors which are all via ramps. Once you get to the top, you have to climb stairs. The view itself is great but it was insanely crowded and you had to wait to get into each viewpoint. There is a chain fence that partially obstructs your view and that takes away some of the charm but you can still get pictures in the gaps.
The walk down is actually the hard part, especially on your knees since it's all a decline. Many older people went up so it is doable but you do feel rushed while up there.

Full of Gothic style details, very tall and majestic, perfect and with attractive proportions.
Be sure to buy ticket in advance to climb the minaret.
Unfortunately, I could not get a ticket and I missed the experience of seeing sky line of Seville 🥺😔
seyed ali Zare — Google review
First thing you do when visiting the Cathedral. There are no steps, just ramps going up on four sides of the square tower. It turned out to easier than I had imagined. So do it!
When viewing outside, you can see the 'call to prayer minar' section, with the bell tower added to the top.
Was told by guide, that this was a part of the old mosque retained, as it was earthquake proof...which the Christians couldn't master.
Imtiaz Ali — Google review
Here's a fun fact for you on this one... do you know how many steps you'd need to take to get to the top of this tower?! Nope, not 300, not 400, or 500, but a grand total of 3 and no, they don't have an elevator. So go see it yourself and you'll find out why. Hint: the answer may involve a donkey. Fun aside, I think they need to manage the influx of people better. There were way too many people at the top, you had to wait to get a spot to see the view. Definitely worth a visit but be prepared to stack behind people for a little while.
Everest — Google review
The exterior building is spectacular. To see the top of the tower however was disappointing. When you get to the top there is a metal net covering the view making it hard to take good pictures. You have to put your camera against the net to get a decent picture of the views. Going up and down the tower can be difficult at busy times so try to visit early before the rush. Spectacular cathedral inside with beautiful decorative paintings and statues. My advice is to get a guide to help beat the queues

Climbing all 30+ floors of the Giralda was a tough ask on a hot day in Seville but so worth the 360 degree views of the city. No wait at all and included in the entry price of the Cathedral so good value as well. Would recommend to anyone visiting the city.

Worth visiting. If you are healthy and in shape you will enjoy it much more. 35 floor climbing to the top is physically breathtaking. But recommended to be done. Find your way through the cathedral. They will check your ticket at the entrance again.

Interesting and beautiful tower which gives you and overview of the city. The tower has a ramp leading up the 82 Meters instead of stairs, which is an interesting feature.
It might get very crowded during high season, as it was full and hard to get a window space up top in february.
I went with a tour I was very satisfied with, so I cant say much about the lines.
Lieren — Google review
Well, it was under reconstruction so one side was covered with scaffoldings during our stay. We saw very long queue so decided not to go on tour (also because of reconstruction) so cannot really say how it is indoor. From outside it is astonishing and one of the biggest cathedrals I saw, really massive structure.
Peter Borsuk — Google review
The views are incredible. Thirty-four floors to climb, but it's relatively gentle inclined and wide ramp rather than a narrow winding staircase. Plenty of resting places and viewing platforms on the way up / down. Be careful of the bells though, very very loud if they chime while you're up there!

The Royal Alcazar of Seville is one of the most impressive royal palaces in all of Spain. Spanning over 1,600 feet (500 meters) and featuring sixteen century tiles, the palace is home to some of Sevilles most beautiful gardens and ornate arches.
Amazing way to spend a day in Sevilla. The grounds are well kept, the history as rich as it gets and even the crowds seemed tolerable. The gardens were occupied with peacocks and other small animals and the ponds were filled with fish and ducks. Overall a nice refreshing visit to Ottoman influenced architecture while in Spain.
Tickets were available to purchase when we arrived. Our time to visit was just 40 minutes away so a walk around the church grounds was sufficient before lining up. We were able to enter 15 minutes before our assigned time so no need to wait the full wait time.

Incredible palace. One of the best I’ve seen in Europe. The gardens are exquisite and pleasant to stroll through. We arrived at 11:30 (buy tickets online to avoid the ticket line) and we entered with a lot of people. Within an hour everyone dispersed and it felt somewhat empty. The weather was amazing so we spent a lot of time in the gardens. Don’t forget to check out the maze. That’s a fun thing to do. After spending some time with the peacocks and checking out the bathhouses, we made our way back inside and revisited the many different rooms as well as the bath house. Everything is so well maintained and the entire facility is its own maze but well worth the visit and worth getting lost inside. My favorite room was the tapestry room. That contained tapestries from several hundred years ago and also told stories from great battles to eloquent religious images. Upstairs contained the plates, dishes, tiles, and other smaller items. It also included great views of the courtyard as well as other views of the gardens. As you near the exit of the property, there’s a really nice cafe and the exit puts you in another courtyard with lots of street art and vendors selling cool goodies. We bought a picture/painting so now my wife gets to lug that around for the rest of our trip lol

We visited here in 2019 and again today. I loved it the first time and just as much the second time too.
It’s an amazing palace and gardens. So much to look at.
Seville was pretty quiet when we visited in July but this was the one place that was busy, although we queued for 30 mins for a ticket to enter immediately- so better than our previous visit in March.
The palace is more busy than the gardens and on the second visit we spent more time outside sitting in the tranquil gardens. Easy to spend a delightful 3 hours here.

Beautiful palace and grounds. Pictures can't depict the beauty and intricacies in architecture and tile work. We took an audio tour with a guide. It allowed us to "skip the line" but we would have been happy exploring on our own.

This was by far my favourite attraction in Seville. The gardens in particular are beautiful and we spent a few hours wandering around. The buildings themselves don't have the grandeur of the Alhambra but are still well worth a visit. It is best to buy a ticket in advance online as there were quite large queues when we visited. Also good to arrive early to avoid the huge crowds.

This is 100% worth it! It was so beautiful we could spend forever in there if we could. I recommend buying tickets in advanced as they sell out fast. We were able to buy tickets the day before but we went during off season. Give yourself at least 2hrs here there is so much to see!

Bought tickets on line but very quiet the day I visited, so was able to walk straight in. Some stunning architecture; don't forget to look up and check out the beautifully ornate ceilings! One of the highlights for me was walking around the gardens. Free entry, but not until after 4pm, on a Monday; may try next time, but for a first visit, give yourself plenty of time to wander around leisurely. (I was there for nearly 4 hours - recommend you take drinks and snacks, to sit and enjoy in the gardens).

Highlight of Seville and a must! Allow a good few hours to take it all in and explore leisurely as it gets very busy! We visited around lunchtime and by mid afternoon it was very busy and the queue outside was huge.

Great experience, got visit a part of history. The architecture is fascinating. You could see the different eras that have lived and passed through it.
The gardens are so beautiful, and each one is special to an era of history.
I'm giving it 4 stars because as the payment is done by card only it creates a bit of a hassle for tourists that have cash only so I've seen people on the line with me that have left for this reason.

Such an amazing place to have visited! Really fascinating to visit this old palace and it’s immaculately kept gardens which are well worth a visit. Breath taking experience! This palace is first known to me by the scene shot in game of thrones. When I am here, I see so much more and so much better. Unlike typical royal garden, this one consists of many little cozy courtyard that is familiar to normal class people. You will definitely enjoy yourself by wandering inside or simply sit somewhere sunny.

This place is stunning. Great architectural features and a garden that everyone dreams of having. I recommend going right when they open for the best chance at getting pictures with minimal people around as later in the day it will be very busy. I also recommend booking the royal chambers tour and getting a look at the private areas of the royal family. You need to book this tour online and try to get it atleast 60 days in advance. Don’t show up late or you might miss your chance as they only let max of 10 people in at a time.

A beautiful part in Sevilla and an important must do for any tourist visiting the city. The castle is beautiful in every way, from the lovely gardens to the mosaic art to the walkways and squares.
The Alcázar is extensive, its beauty is breathtaking and is one of the most important places to see in all of Spain.
I’d recommend buying tickets well in advance, and go for early times around opening (9:30 am). Remember to bring some form of ID as they will check for it and buying tickets in advance is surely a must for this exhibit.

Super visit, recommend buying tickets in advance as they sell out quickly. Timed entrance, with a fast moving queue. Quite busy going through the different rooms. Gardens very peaceful. There is also an option to view the gardens at night when they are illuminated. Audio commentary available via an app for 6 Euros or 7 Euros for a mobile device.

Absolutly wonderful! If you tend to take your time and go slow (like me) plan on this visit being at least a solid 2 hours of your day. Everything is SO beautiful it is amazing. I didn't get the ticket that includes the royal rooms because those get booked up in advance, but don't worry if you can't either, the general ticket is so worth it as well. Don't miss this on your trip to Sevilla!!

We bought our tickets online same day (it’s typically a little cheaper to buy online) We bought our tickets at 9:50 am on a Monday for 10:30 am entrance. We walked in at 10:15am.
It is a lot bigger than it looks, so be prepared for a lot of walking. It’s beautiful and has so much history. There is so much to look at you could easily spend a few hours there. The garden is giant, it has a small cafe and gift shop. There are ducks and peacocks walking around. The audio tour was 6€ on an app you can buy once you enter. I do recommend going early (if in the summer) because it gets very hot as the day progresses.
We spent 2hours looking at everything and eating at the cafe and I still don’t think we saw everything, but we saw enough that I don’t feel like we missed anything.

A true must see in the heart of Seville, you do not want to be frugal on this one, it is really worth it. Beautiful place no matter where you go and very big too, it could be hard to visit every room and garden without a map (which you can take at the entrance). Apart from the magnificent interior and gardens, you can find many peacocks just chilling somewhere near the trees and bushes. And for the tickets it would be smart to buy them in advance.

Bottom line: Recommend!
Now, get online and reserve a ticket ASAP because it's a very popular attraction and if you want to reserve a time slot you should book it in advance!
We came on a Saturday late morning and saw a huge queue to get it.
We tried to buy tickets online using our phone but they require you to fill in passport or ID details which isn't very comfortable on mobile, so we went to the ticket office.
There we waited around 30 min to buy a ticket for the same day (you can't buy for another day other than the same day).
Also, you must show them a passport or an ID (if it's on mobile it's fine).
We then arrived at our designated time of 17.30 (in the summer it's better to go early morning or late evening otherwise it's too hot!) and other than scanning the tickets no one asked for our IDs. So what is it needed for??
The place itself - after seeing Alhambra castel in Granada, this fort/palace was less impressive but nonetheless beautiful and unique.
As opposed to Alhambra in which you can only go in 1 direction, here you can go wherever you want to and from wherever you want.
This might be a bit confusing and you can easily miss some parts as this is a huge palace, but the free map (take one) might help (don't miss the wine cellar before going out to the garden).
There is a bar outside in the gardens but it closed around 19.00 so make sure you go there before if you want to enjoy some drinks and snacks.
Enjoy 😊

A wonderful place that I'd recommend visiting with a reputable tour guide. Apparently this place or palace or castle is still in use by the royal family. I arrived early and had to wait for the doors to open, but this was a good thing as my group had most of the place to ourselves without any other people. Photography and video is allowed which is great because I took many photos. I wish I had more time at this location as there's much to see. Unfortunately, I don't remember much of the history lesson from my tour guide and won't be able to regurgitate any historical information in my review.

The palace is beautiful and colourful, full of mosaic art. The gardens are big and wonderful full of different types of plants, birds, art, and water fountains.
Fun fact: this is a filming location for Game of Thrones Season 5.
Recommending to visit!

Bought tickets online and was glad as queue was very long without. You need your passport or ID to get in. Inside is stunning in the Moorish tradition. Climb the wall and take some pictures as the view over the gardens is great. Don’t miss the historic tile exhibition if you are interested in design.

Absolutely excellent. I highly recommend getting tickets which allow you to go into the royal chamber. We did not have a tour guide through the palace, but I would recommend one We did love the gardens, which was a high point for us as they go on and on, and are just a joy to spend time in. The detail in the palace is unbelievable, a must see when in Sevilla

Awesome place. Get the tickets in advance probably with several days. One of the most famous spots in Sevilla, a must. The ticket price is around 15€ and it’s pretty good considering all the things you have to see inside. It took us around 2hrs to visit all.

This place is beyond magical. If these walls could talk, I'd stay and listen forever! The architecture is stunning and the gardens are quite tranquil. This place is a must see! As of this review, price for entry is €14.50 when purchased at the official website which ends in .org. There is no need to pay more. Enjoy!

It is the most impressive landmark in the city. Definitely worth a visit even if slightly crowded. While it’s beautiful to explore independently, I’d definitely come back and get a guided tour!
Definitely book in advance as tickets are often sold out!

This place is utterly amazing and stunning. Peacocks wander the grounds which is breathtaking. Game of thrones fans will love it as user many times and understandable as it's one of the most beautiful places I have visited. Book in advance definitely. Eat before. It's bigger than you imagine at least 3 hrs to enjoy abd take sunscreen and water.

A must see heritage site. Highly recommended.
It would be better to get your tickets online and in advance. Though we did not spent too much time to get ours from ticket office.
The garden and the building are so amazing and absorbing. Make sure you have enough time to spend because there a lot to see and enjoy.

Magnificent and extensive site packed with historical and religious significance both Christian and Muslim.
Beautiful stonework, tiles and architecture.
A lovely place to spend 2-3 hours wandering the Palace and grounds. We visited end of February so the queue moved quickly and it was easy to move around.

Patio de Banderas, s/n, Casco Antiguo, 41004 Sevilla, Spain
The National Museum of Roman Art, located in Calle de Jose Ramon Melida, showcases an extensive collection of Roman sculptures, mosaics and artifacts excavated from the nearby theater and amphitheater. Despite not being built by the Romans themselves, it is considered one of the most important collections in the Iberian Peninsula. Visitors can also view houses, tombs and a section of the Roman road at this museum. A visit is highly recommended for those interested in ancient history and art.
Gorgeous artifacts, so much history, and a beautiful building to house it all. We stopped here without really knowing much about it or what to expect and were blown away by it all. 3-4 floors of ruins (crypt), art, coins, mosaics, utensils, statues, and every other artifact you could imagine. I believe we spent 2 hours here and would’ve stayed longer if we had the time. The museum building is one of the most beautiful that we’ve seen. Really loved this place

Stunning example of a museum supporting adjacent archaeological site. Most of the significant artefacts were moved to the museum for protection and safekeeping. What a comprehensive display. Worth the entry fee but even better on a free day! 😀

Modern museum building in which remains from 700 years of Roman settlement are presented. Thanks to the generous room layout, even large works of art such as mosaic floors or statues are shown to their best advantage. Unfortunately, the crypt is currently being renovated and cannot be visited. It makes sense to take a look at the numerous excavation sites in the city beforehand.
Uwe Augustin — Google review
This museum, in fact, this entire city center, is an archaeological, dig along the lines of anything you would see in Italy with so many treasures they are still finding from the old capital of Lusitania back in ancient Rome. If you’re at all interested in ancient Roman history and you’re in Spain you really should see the city which is a world heritage site. it’s unbelievable that a city way out in the extremadura has a rich historical inheritance, and the museum is very well organized and beautiful for a city of modest size. Ole!
Patrick Ohearn Ph.D. — Google review
Those who have an interest both in Roman Art and contemporary architecture are twice rewarded with this museum. The building is a master work of Rafael Moneo , architect from the province of Navarre, who has combined simplicity with majesty to create a singular space for the impressive collection that comes from the ancient Roman city of Emerita Augusta, today the modern city of Merida . By means of an underground gallery, visitors can gain access to the Amphitheater and Theatre, the latter being one of the best conserved from the Roman Empire within Western Europe .
Josu Camacho — Google review
Crypt was closed while we were there, but the (free) museum is excellent for such a small city. Not too big, but not too small. Somewhat comparable to the Shanghai museum (my favorite), a little smaller and narrower in scope, but with a similar care in how the exhibits are organized and quality of placard details. Quite impressive, should be even better when they are finished with upgrades/repairs. You might want to do it on a different day than all the outdoor sites, doing it all in one day is fun but exhausting.
Ryan B — Google review
Excellent museum with some interesting artefacts. Not too big so an hour is all that’s needed to visit comfortably. The crypt was closed for renovation when I visited.
Albert Bielecki — Google review
Fantastic museum but it needs some updating. Parts of the exhibition were closed because it rained through the roof, the crypt was closed due to technical issues, the lighting in some of the showcases was dead. Nevertheless super impressive, beautiful artifacts

Really enjoyed this National Museum - the building itself is wonderful but from the outside it just looks like a posh bus station 😀 - inside it’s really stunning and shows the artefacts really well over 3 floors. The mosaics are very impressive. If you go after 2pm on a Saturday and in Sunday morning it’s free

Beautifully designed building paying tribute to the Roman Brick. The collection is housed in a grand Hall of soaring of arches. The highlights are the mosaics recovered from houses excavated in the surrounds of the Roman town of Augusta Eremita. These are vast in size. There are also originals of statuary from the nearby theatre. I often wonder how much more we would have of Roman art if the early Christians had not vandalised so many statues. Most of these are either headless. Or have had their noses carefully hammered.
Ken Richards — Google review
This has to be a must see on your list of attractions in Merida. Right next to the Amphitheatre and Theatre site it is the most incredible collection of artefacts from around Merida. But the standout exhibits by far are the enormous collection of the largest mosaics I have ever seen …. They are all stunning and must be seen to be believed. And the museum is free…it’s too good to be true!

The historical landmark Old Town of Cáceres is a walled city with preserved medieval buildings. The old town is easy to get lost in its maze of alcoves and narrow stone alleyways pockmarked with exquisite medieval buildings. It's no surprise this town is in the UNESCO list of heritage.
I live in Portugal and my husband and I were looking for a great place for a quick road trip. We decided on Caceres and WOW it really delivered. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and wandering around it really does feel like stepping back 500 years in time. We got up and out for an early morning walk in late September and it seemed we were in a time warp with nobody except us. Magical.
Some excellent restaurants with authentic Spanish cuisine and live music in little bars tucked away down little back streets. We loved every minute and can't wait to go back.

If you plan on going on a weekday in the middle of the day or early afternoon, don’t... it’s beautiful but absolutely deserted and most of the stores and restaurants are closed. They open up again later in the day as most of Spain, but if you’re just passing through make sure to be there later in the day. Other than that it’s amazing seeing the history of Cáceres. The entire old city is like an open-air museum. Even if you have an extra hour or so and are near, you should definitely go.

The Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe is a major Roman Catholic monastery with its main church ordered by Alfonso XI in the 14th century. Located in Caceres, it's a favorite spot for birdwatchers due to its natural resources like the Monfrague National Park and Jerte Valley. The monastery, dating back to the 15th century, houses a carving of the Virgin Mary believed to be done by St. Luke.
Beautiful and ornate monastery in a lovely town with lots to see
Michelle Mart?nez — Google review
The monastery buildings are divided into three parts: the hotel, the church, and the cloisters (main part?). The latter is only accessible via a guided tour, which is only in Spanish - tickets required, no idea of frequency, times, or duration as we didn't bother (the chap selling them was not helpful). The church is worth popping into - very ornate. We happened to time it so that the effigy of Mary spun around to face us from the altar (Catholics do love their drama). The monastery hotel is a lovely setting for lunch, which compensates for the pretty average food.

Very impressive.
You buy a ticket for €5.
You wait in the vestibule for a guide and I’ve no idea how the system works. Whether they wait for numbers or if it’s time based. The waiting room was quite full when the guide arrived.
You go through to the cloister area where at the end of the tour you may take pictures.
All the other areas are no photography. Probably due to concerns over flash.
It’s one of the most impressive ones I’ve seen.
Then you go into the embroidery museum where everything is 15-17 C. The work is amazing and the condition excellent considering it’s age.
Then you go into the museum of illustrated books. These books are 1m x 0.7m, so huge. There are a lot of them. Some smaller books too. All leather bound with huge clasps.
Then you visit the shrine and the sacristy. Quite incredible areas.
Then back round the cloisters and exit where you came in.
Definitely worth the €5

I took the bus from Madrid (4hr journey) to visit this monastery. The building is very beautiful but unfortunately photography is not allowed inside, except in the cloister. Also the tour (EUR 6) is only conducted in Spanish, which is a shame.
Cheese Cake — Google review
Would love to give a review of the actual monastery but we decided against going in based on the appalling treatment from the incredibly rude man on the cash desk. He indicated he was ready to serve me then barked 'momento' several times when I began to speak. It became apparent that speaking to one of his colleagues was more important so I waited until he deigned to talk to me. I asked (in Spanish) what time the next tour was and if there was a subsequent one as, having walked 30 mins in the heat, we would prefer to have a drink before going in. Again, he barked back at us in very fast Spanish whilst desperately trying to tear off two tickets for the immediate tour which we clearly didn't want. Even after asking him to slow his speech down he would not do so and did not display one iota of customer care - astonishing in a visitor attraction and a religious one at that.
My 6€ was duly spent elsewhere, having a relaxing couple of beers in a very friendly bar.

Monasterio de San Jerónimo de Yuste is a restored monastery, church, and gardens that dates back to the early 1400s. It was used as an emperor's retreat and is known for being the place where Charles spent his last days until he died of malaria. The monastery offers a glimpse into history with its well-preserved interiors, including the emperor's room and a beautiful chapel.

Beautiful historical monastery where Charles I spent his last days until he died of malaria. Gorgeous place to take photos, very neat to be able to visit the emperor’s room and the chairs he sat on and was carried in when he was sick, a pretty chapel and so cheap to get into compared to historical buildings in the US (Under 8 Euros for adults and half price for kids up to 16, seniors, and a bunch of other discounted groups). Basically you need a car or a taxi to arrive (public transportation is scarce and non-reliable) but hey! Totally worthy, especially when in sunset when they are about to turn the lights of the walls on. Avila is such a magical place which is a perfect day trip from Madrid. That doesn’t mean you can stay the night but try to come in Spring or Fall, as most restaurants or touristic attraction will have reduced hours in August or the Winter. The viewpoint is a little bit chilly at night if not in Summer, so bring a jacket!

The Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes in Toledo is an Isabelline style Franciscan monastery built by Isabella I of Castile (1477–1504). It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The monastery was founded in 1477 by Isabella I of Castile and Fernando II of Aragon to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Toro. It was dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist for use by Franciscan friars.
The monastery is a masterpiece of Isabelline architecture, a style that combines Gothic and Mudéjar elements. The church has a single nave with a stellar vault. The cloister is Mudéjar in style, with a beautiful ceiling on the second floor.
The monastery was badly damaged by Napoleon's troops during their occupation of Toledo in 1809. It was restored in the 19th century and is now open to the public.
Here are some interesting facts about the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes:
* The monastery was originally intended to be the burial place of Isabella and Fernando, but they were eventually buried in the Royal Chapel of Granada.
* The monastery's church contains the tomb of Prince Juan, the only son of Isabella and Fernando who died in childhood.
* The monastery's cloister is home to a collection of Mudéjar tiles, which are some of the finest examples of this type of tilework in Spain.
* The monastery is a popular tourist destination and is open to the public for tours.
Would you like to know more about the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes?
* Construction and Architectural Style: Construction began in 1477 under the supervision of architect Juan Guas and was completed in 1504. The Isabelline style prominently features Gothic elements with intricate tracery and ribbed vaults, alongside Mudéjar influences like geometric patterns and horseshoe arches.
* Highlights: The main church stuns visitors with its stellar vault and richly decorated main chapel. The cloister, a tranquil haven, offers a beautiful example of Mudéjar ceilings with intricate designs. Look for the symbolic chains on the facade, commemorating Christian captives freed by the Catholic Monarchs.
* Visiting the Monastery: The monastery is open to the public for guided tours. Ticket prices vary starting at 4€. It's generally open year-round, except for December 25th and January 1st. A pleasant monastery but nothing exceptional. The main church was OK but we saw a great many that were better. The cloisters, usually a good feature of monasteries was ornate but quite small. One when passing not to seek out. More impressive lit up at night, but you can't enter then.

Excellent free audio guide, QR code available right inside the cloisters. I didn't work for a few of the commentaries, but the ones I heard were interesting an enjoyable.
The cloisters and church are full of beautiful details, well worth a look.

It's a good experience, worth 4€ to entry, you can see the architecture they used to build this monastery. Really enjoyed!!!

Having seen where los reyes católicos are buried in Granada, it was great to see this monastery where theyight have been buried had they not completed the conquest of Spain. It's a very beautiful building even without Ferdinand and Isabella.

A very impressive, large building with the ornate architecture. I expected to see more exhibits or information inside - althought the audio guide is very comprehensive, it can be a bit long at times. €4 standard entry. Nice that it's open on Mondays when many other places are closed.

Loved the gothic architecture, Spanish tiles and orange trees! This is such a charming monastery hidden away in Toledo. Come for the beautiful ceiling arches and the orange trees in the courtyard!
Note: Visit prior to COVID, so things may have changed.

The Mirador del Valle viewpoint offers a panoramic view of Toledo and the surrounding area, as well as stunning views of the setting sun. It is located on a prominent bluff overlooking the Tagus River, and can be reached using a pleasant walk through residential areas.
I can’t say enough about Toledo. Well worth the day trip via fast train from Madrid, a must! Beautiful historic city, take the red city tour bus so you can listen to the audio of the history and then give yourself plenty of time to wonder. I went end of February, perfect weather, only a light jacket was needed.

A scenic road that leads into Toledo- a look through the lens of the drivers going by is an amazing view. Take a break on the road to take a glance at the breathtaking views that Toledo has to offer, and feel the cool breeze that floats past you. An amazing break spot for a little lunch or snack with an amazing view.

Decided to visit Toledo on a whim on our drive from Madrid to Cordoba. I think our biggest regret wasn't spending a day in Toledo properly walking the city. This place was GORGEOUS and the views were even better. Definitely worth a day trip from Madrid. One of the most underrated places on our trip. Loved loved loved driving through this city, cute and full of culture. There is a LOT of uphill walking so just be aware.

Excellent viewing point of Toledo. Caught the train vision tour for 8 euro which stops here as part of the tour. You can book in the main square. Look for the small pink kiosk. It leaves from a street nearby quite often throughout the day.

A literal breathtaking view. Words can't describe how perfect this view is. If you're going to Toledo, you MUST come to this side of the valley to see the town across the canyon.
It's very quiet and peaceful so you could easily spend an hour just taking in the view. There can be many tourists (myself being one of them) but there is a lot of space along the road for you to setup for your photos.

Fantastic place to see the beauty of Toledo. You can use double deck or "train" but better get a taxi which will cost you less than bus.

Perched on the edge of a cliff, this viewpoint provides visitors with a mesmerizing vista that captures the beauty and grandeur of Toledo.
From the Mirador del Valle, visitors can admire the majestic silhouette of Toledo's medieval skyline, with its towering cathedrals, ancient fortifications, and labyrinthine streets. Great viewpoint of the beautiful city of Toledo Spain! Not a close walk so recommend taking a hop on hop off bus which will take you to all the tourist spots in the area. Was great to take a bunch of photos in this area. There is a small store selling magnets and other items. 1 item the seller had was a hand painted number paintings which were priced extremely well and only place I saw these in Toledo. This place was worth the bus cost alone let alone the others!

The Toledo Cathedral is a magnificent cathedral in the city of Toledo, Spain. It was built over a period of more than 250 years and it is one of the most famous and important cathedrals in Spain. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Mary and it features some Mudejar features. It is widely considered to be one of the best examples of High Gothic architecture in Spain.
So much to see and meander through the town. The beauty is literally everywhere...I love that they preserved so much of this town and so many hidden gems of tapas eateries. I could have spent days exploring unfortunately we only had half a day.

This is a beautiful cathedral in Toledo and well worth a visit. Entry is €10 and includes a audio guide (tickets are available in the shop opposite the cathedral entrance). It's a typical cathedral with grotesque wealth of the church on display, lots of religious art and paintings. There's a lot more to see than I expected too so not bad value for the cost.

No doubts, one of the most beautiful cathedral churches in the world, I’m too stunned to even speak and be able to describe the church because I think the photo or my word can’t do justice on how amazing and beautiful the sculpture/artwork is. It is definitely worth every penny to go into the church to explore and learn about it’s history.

By far one of the prettiest cathedrals I have ever visited. The sheer size of the cathedral was impressive on its own. I can't find it on any list, but it must be one of the largest cathedrals in Europe. The detail work throughout is wonderful. There is an almost skylight effect in one section that is so unique and beautiful. Absolutely worth a visit. Easy cab ride from Madrid.

Beautiful Catholic Cathedral in the Gorgeous old town of Toledo. Unfortunately, the cathedral was closed due to restoration work being done (October 2021). Very impressive architecture with thousands of years of history, and the actual size is huge. The cost to visit inside the cathedral we were informed it is £10 euros. I will definitely go back when it is open to the public but also because the old town of Toledo is such a historic and amazing place, totally worth visiting 💯💗✅

Too staggering to put into words. This is the place I’d say no picture could do its justice. It’s so breathtaking and magnificent. It’s a must visit in Toledo. The Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is a royal building from the 1500s that houses some of Spain's best masters in painting, sculpture and architecture. The complex is located in the Sierra de Guadarrama, 47 km from Madrid. It can be distinguished from its neighbor, El Escorial de Abajo, by its elevated location. The most interesting areas were the church, tombs and the library.
The Library is one of a kind. Wonderful landscape, in a quiet place, that allows the visitor to enjoy a beautiful sunset in a medieval environment.

Paid 6€ with student reduced price. Totally worth it. Took me around 2 hours to get through the entire site. No photos allowed inside. Favorite part was the magnificent basilica found inside El Escorial. It is very similar to an art museum experience plus the rooms are ornate. The gardens are not particularly special, but they are well kept. Makes for a great day trip from Madrid.

The is one of the most beautiful monastery's I've ever seen!! You don't have to pay to see the basilica but to see all the corners of the monastery you do have to pay 12€. There's discounts for students, children and seniors. I really advice the visit!!!! You can't take fotos or videos inside some rooms. It take more or less 3 hours to see everything. This place has incredible paintings and frescos. High recommend a tour throughout the big place!!

Staggeringly beautiful royal site. The Basilica was so much bigger than the door would have you expect, so the volume is really breathtaking. The library is beautiful and so interesting to browse. And the royal residences are well preserved and interesting.
Definitely deserves three or four hours to soak it all in.

More beautiful from outside. Many areas inside are restricted so not much to see. The most interesting areas were the church, tombs and the library.
Rada Kalsi — Google review
I did this in two stages. I walked around the village the night before as well as the outside while it is quieter. It is worth getting a guided tour as there is so much to see and it is easy to miss out whole sections. There are no photos allowed on the inside but plenty of illustrated books are available. Be prepared to spend at least three hours here and consider a trip to the controversial valley of the fallen just 20 minutes away while you are in the area.
Shaun Bradbury — Google review
This is believed to be the largest Renaissance structure in the world. El Escorial is a complex of many buildings with different functions within one huge structure. The two major parts of the structure are the royal palace and the monastery. And within the premises of those two structures you happen upon a basilica, pantheon, library, museum, university, school, and hospital. Along the time a small town developed around the building.
El Escorial served as one of the seats for the Spanish monarchy. The mood in this palace is a little bit austere and somber.
The Escorial is almost 50 km from Madrid. A bus service will take there.
The admission fee is 10€ (2021 prices). Keep in mind that the Escorial is closed on Mondays.
After visiting the Palace and the Monastery, you can walk to the adjacent town. There you will find many nice cafes and restaurants. The prices are fair and the mood is very relaxing.

This monastery is quite amazing, photos don't show the real magnitude and how beautiful it really is. The library was my favorite part, with over 40000 books and manuscripts, some dating back to more than 1500 years. This place took more than 20 years to be built which is also amazing, I took the scenic Tren Felipe II from Madrid which included the entrance to the monastery and I highly recommend it.
Julian Cadavid — Google review
Large, monumental, spectacular, etc.,... these are the qualifying adjectives that come to mind when you are in front of this majestic work of art or monument, The monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial is also in a place of great beauty , at the foot of the northern mountains of Madrid and surrounded by meadows, trees, etc.,... in addition to visiting the Monastery you can see other nearby buildings such as the University, the Casita del Principe, the gardens, etc.,... I personally think that if you are one of those who like art, with the visit of the 5 main elements of the Monastery, such as: The basilica, the cloister, the refectory, the palace and the gardens, you will have a king size premium de lux ration top of the art range, with which you will end up more than satisfied...
Chemi Grante — Google review
A gorgeous monastery with beautiful architecture, it is huge and takes a while to cover. Since we visited on a Sunday, we could not see the church because there was mass going on. Only disappointment was that we were told time and again that we aren't allowed to take pictures, so it's kind of a bummer not having any pictures of the interior of the monastery. Carry a hand fan during summers, it tends to get warm inside. Overall, it is still stunning.
Diana DSouza — Google review
My group wanted to take advantage of the free admission hours. It was okay but really not enough time to see everything since the free hours are so limited. If you're slow like me and want to read all the signs, just buy tickets for general admission. You won't be rushed and you'll have time to enjoy everything. The location is beautiful and the buildings are fantastic. Be aware you are not supposed to take photos indoors and they're pretty strict about it, so just don't.

Beautiful. Transported back in time. Tapestries, art work, furnishings, burial areas. Just a short bus ride or drive from Madrid. Many, many stairs to climb on an unforgiving stone floor. Not friendly for those with mobility issues

We loved this palace. Why?
- the building is huge, imposing and beautiful
- the rooms are splendid
- the history is spectacular
- it’s not over-touristed
This is one of those rare places that exceeds all expectations.
We took the train from Madrid (took about an hour), which was easy and convenient. Because of the distance, tourist hordes seem to stay away from this place, making it even more magical.
Graham Topp — Google review
Laid prostrate at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama bathed in the warm glow of the Spanish sun, this simple yet historically rich 16th century palace/monastery beckons both tourists and locals alike to lose themselves within its seemingly austere stone walls.
To describe this place would be wrong as I would surely but unintentionally omit a special detail or two. From a beautiful library and basilica to its original intent as a mausoleum, there’s so much to see and experience. Therefore, enjoy the pictures and allow me to provide a short list of relevant tidbits.
- We took our time and saw everything, which took about 2.5 hours.
- Let’s talk handicap access. The entrance and floor level is handicap accessible; however, there is no access for the deep portions of the tour such as the mausoleum and crypt. There is a way to access the library but I’m not sure how.
- This tour is a lot of walking with many steep staircases. Elderly people may have an issue given their maneuverability.
- Tickets are 14€ for an adult and 7€ for kids.
- There is a nice parking garage near by called Aparcamiento Monasterio that charges about 3€ an hour.
- They offer an audio tour guide that we did not partake in but I hear it’s mediocre.
Overall, it’s an amazing historical site nestled in a quaint little town. Make a day of it and enjoy lunch or dinner after the tour.
Enjoy!

Wonderful place to visit!! No photos are allowed inside. There are free lockers for backpacks and bags off the the left when you first walk in after buying your ticket and bathrooms. Give yourself at least two hours to explore. There is so much to see - cloisters, the library (across a courtyard and up a bunch of steps), then, the basilica, crypt, art, rooms, halls and so much detail! Keep your ticket handy for the library and after the basilica. They will check in both places and ask to make sure you have seen the library. So nice, definitely wouldn't want to miss that! If you have time before you leave city, walk around the the left and explore the gardens and garden views!

C. Puerto de Navacerrada, km 23, 28939 Arroyomolinos, Madrid, Spain
Basílica de la Santa Cruz del Valle de los Caídos, also known as Valley of the Fallen, is a stunning and peaceful site dedicated to fallen soldiers of the Spanish Civil War. The monument, located about an hour from Madrid, is a labor of love by Francisco Franco and serves as a reminder of Spain's struggles. Despite its controversial history, the construction and sculptures are breathtaking.
This is a magical place in an breathtaking valley in the heart of the Sierra de Guadarrama. If you are a motorcycle passionate, as I am, la Sierra (as we call it in Madrid) is a must for you. BTW, here you will find the biggest cross ever built, over 150m tall.
Latelly, El Valle de los Caidos has been too often in the news, unfortunately for the wrong reasons: politicians (usually left oriented) creating smoke curtains to distract the population from their hidden agendas or their ineptitude.
But enough of that, whether you ride solo, or visiting with your family, it is totally worth it. After your visit, I recommend lunch in El Escorial and a visit to the Real Monasterio de San Lorenzo, built on the 16th century.

Obviously not part of the Spanish history, that people can be proud of. But that aside, the place is definitely worth a visit. In the late afternoons, the visit is free of charge, mondays closed.

Went there in September, amazing experience.
Besides the social implications of the meaning of this place, the magnificent nature of the construction is breathtaking. The sculpture work is unparalleled.
Regardless of your political position, the place is a must see.

A beautiful, peaceful, mystical, and awe inspiring place of devotion to our Lord and to ALL the fallen soldiers of the brutal Spanish Civil War. The VALLE DE LOS CAIDOS (Valley of the Fallen) serves as a reminder of the struggles of the Spanish nation and its people. A labor of love from Francisco Franco dedicated to all Spaniards, and to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sadly, the current socialist government has it in its sights for demolition. For some nefarious and dark reason, they especially have a problem with the magnificent Cross, the highest and tallest in Europe, and are slowly moving forward with their plan to tear it down. All people must unite to stop this indecent act of pure hatred. Support the Benedictine monks who for many years have served as the caretakers of this incredible place. Do not let modernity destroy a thing of true love and beauty.

This is an amazing place in the middle of no where. They have actually dug the mountain and built this great cathedral inside the mountain.

Without political background, this place is beautiful. Environment is green, building structure similar to Vatican. Big hall painting and massive statues. Awesome!!
