I have been twice now. Used the right hand pool first time. It was ok but a bit cold. Has a little slide for kids, a good size pool for swimming and a large jacuzzi. Second time we went we used the left hand pool. A bit more expensive but offers more. It has a lazy river, hot tubs, saunas & cold plunge pool and more. The place has always been clean and tidy and the staff are friendly too.

Very expensive for what's offered. Certain facilities were out of order. Competitive prices in comparison to Euro Disney, except for the awesome attraction rides.
Sebastien Waknine — Google review
My experience here was not one of the best.
In the complex I had a nice day of fun and relax, but the structure needs to be revisited.
First of all, we bought a ticket with access to the two areas but once inside nobody was checking and anyone could have access to both areas,
Many points need to be cleaned because there is mold,
And lastly, we didn't even have the time to take a last shower since the workers at 6:30 precise were just pushing us out while we were changing.

Loved the place, clean, friendly staff, the water is warm and it is safe for the little ones. The only negative thing I found was that there was not enough food available, the restaurant was all reserved and the sandwich place only had a few sandwiches left but nothing small for children except sweets. I highly recommend and would go again.

Great for families, indoor and outdoor pool. Plenty of parking
Chris Davis — Google review
Was advertised through a brochure we received from the campsite we were staying at as one of the largest indoor and outdoor swimming complexes in Europe - don't be fooled by the grandeur of the advertisement. There is 1 slide, one pool that is partly outdoors. And that's it. Unless you pay extra for the fitness section, if with children like us, then not worth it. Ok to stay for a couple of hours but not worthy of a day out. Positives are there are lots of lifeguards and it's fairly clean and well kept.

Great indoor outdoor water park
2 areas one with large pool, beach, wave machine, flume and cafe surrounded by palm trees The other more like a health spa.
32 degrees moving water spa, jacuzzi, steam. Fantastic.

Long queues for every ride -45mins plus. Worth getting fast pass at 13 euros, but steep on top on 28 euro entree. Good kids' area. Take lots of sun screen. Ice creams and slushes are 3.5 and 5 euros respectively. Sun beds 4euros. Slides look ace, but queues too long to bother. Wave pool is fun

Remy Martin Cognac offers a comprehensive experience for visitors interested in learning about the history and production of cognac. The brand's headquarters provide tours that cover the entire cognac-making process, offering insights into the region and its significance. Visitors have the opportunity to taste their cognacs and even receive a souvenir glass.
Awesome tour with tasting options. Beautiful scenery, wonderful cognac.
Jeremy Korzeniewski — Google review
Lea, the tour guide from Remy Martin, picked us up from our hotel. She speaks very good English. She showed us the entire cognac-making process. We got to taste one of their cognacs, and gave us the glass as a souvenir. Good tour tempo. Highly recommend for cognac novices, as well as those with wine making experience.

Fantastic tour by Nicolas and the arrangements were made easy by Julie to make it one memorable experience with my father. Very well recommended and in fact may come again for the 300th year anniversary next year.

The place was lovely and being able to learn how the cognac was made. Knowing how delicate it is to make, helps me understand why the product is expensive, they even let us have a taste of the vsop afterwards during the guided tour.

I am a big Remy Martin Cognac fan, I own a Louis X111. I am keeping it for my 60th birthday.
My wife never liked cognac until the Tour and now she is a fan.
Now we can't wait to sample it together. It's a very good and interesting Tour.

Easily the best tour I had in Cognac. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and professional. I also had a long email conversation with them which showed their amazing service and flexibility.
And of course, the different Cognac we tried was incredible!

Great experience to visit the head office of Remi Martin being a Cognac drinker. They had beautiful store but did not take a tour of the offices. I was disappointed that the glasses they were selling in their shop were such low quality unlike Hennessey who had high end Czech crystal. Staff was nice and explained to us how the small bottles XO at airports is really not XO.

Amazing visit and tasting experience I highly recommend it. I did it with my friends. Louis, our guide, is super nice, gave loads of information and prepared us one of the best cocktail ever: Harmony. And the cognac was as great as expected. A must do!

The food category does not fit here. The "water of life" (Cognac) deserves it's own place. The tour was very interesting, the guide knowledgeable, and the tasting devine.
You can also ask to taste other vendors before buying.

The oldest of the 'big four' Cognac distilleries.
Jeremy took us on our very informative tour. We learned about the history of the distillery, the production processes, and how to taste the final product. Thanks Jeremy.
We were able to show up forty-five minutes before the tour began (which was in English) and purchase tickets. A larger distillery had cancelled our pre-booked tour just over twenty-four hours before we were due to arrive in the town. Thank you Martell.
It was well worth the time and money.

A tour well worth doing. They do English tours and our guide was enthusiastic. This is an historic location not a working one so don't expect to see the real processes in action.

€25 is very expensive for 3 x 20ml tasting of three brandies. This did not allow any discount on the purchase of a bottle!
Seems extraordinary as surely they are trying to market their products.
After a really informative chat by the woman in reception, we went to the rooftop bar, and were served an excruciatingly expensive brandy, which was full of bits.
We enjoyed the experience but overall it is overpriced.
Deb Armstrong — Google review
Had a great experience visiting the cellars and gathering knowledge about their hostory and distillation process.
The tasting at the end was very insightful too.
Cristian Popescu — Google review
I can hardly judge as after the tour had started we got to know it's not a production site any more. Seems a bit too pricey to pay 20 EUR to visit a place that's like a museum, even though the girl our guide seemed great and am sure the tour would have been informative we decided to cancel it. I'd rather look for place where Cognac is still being produced.

ROOFTOP INDIGO BAR. Staff were very impolite. Servers were rude and abrupt. No welcome as we arrived. The blender was cracked and leaking. Drinks were expensive and not very tasty. Such a shame as the location is beautiful. We won't be returning.
Hennessy is a renowned cognac house located in the charming town of Cognac, France. The brand was established in 1765 by an Irish military officer and has since become the largest producer of cognac globally. Visitors can enjoy a captivating tour and tasting experience at the Hennessy estate, which includes a boat ride on the Charente River, immersive tours, VR experiences, and tastings of their iconic spirits.
This tour was a magnificent experience from start to finish. Shaun is a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable, and able to provide great historical content along with technical information mixed with excellent humor. Be prepared for an educational taste test that can increase your taste, admiration, and respect for cognac.
Thank you, Shaun, for the great experience. I wish you a long career with Hennessy.

Very nice and remarkable Guided tour. The guide is very interactive and her knowledge is superb. She is able to EXPLAIN (In English) to you in detail how everything is being made, TEACHES you how to appreciate and taste the product in style... kids are able to try the grape juice too(which is a plus point for parents like us). The only minus point is the parking... you may park along the road but it's a 1.5hour block only...
Garry Ng (Fatty FluFFy) — Google review
We really enjoyed this tour. They guided us through the whole history of Hennessy and after explained how the world most famous cognac is being made. And the final touch was the actual degustation of Hennessy different cognacs. The tour was in English and didn’t cost much. After the tour you can continue your degustation at the bar

Very nice and well done tour! The Movies and lighting were super cool to see. The tasting at the end was also fun to see the difference with and without ice and different kinds. Thé cocktail was also very good. There was a small electric boat ride to get over. The boutique was also cool. Nicely laid out. Overall super.

We tried the immersive tour, the boat ride, the VR experience and the tasting at the end was all more than worth the money being charged.

Had a very interesting and informative tour at Hennessy today the English guide was great. Had a tour round where the barrels a kept mature the VR room is amazing have never experienced this before but would definitely recommend the tasting room at the end of the tour was also very good hic 🥴. If you’re in the area definitely worth a visit to learn about the origins of the family history and how brandy is made.
Alex Webb — Google review
We chose the cheapest tour as we knew nothing about cognac and it was a good intro into the making of it. The tasting was quite rushed at the end which was a shame.
Vanessa McCormack — Google review
First part of the tour (multimedia) is generic and boring. A lot of standing around and listening without any really interesting facts. Second part (aging warehouse and tasting) was fantastic. I would have preferred to see some more real manufacturing and less of the generic multimedia stuff.

We opted for the Hennessy Initiation Immersive Experience which lasted 2 hours and included the boat trip, tour of the cellar, tasting and their new VR experience, which was incredible. Our tour guide was great and all of the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We drove to Cognac especially for this tour and it did not disappoint.

Fascinating visit to the famous Hennessy Cognac distillery in February 2024. Visit of 2 hours approximately that was led by a charming and knowledgeable tour leader called Aprile.
The cost of €29 was well worth it and good value for money considering the high quality of the exhibition, the information shared and the visit between two locations in Cognac, with a short bus ride between the two.
There was also a 15 minute audio-visual presentation with 3D goggles and while it was very clever and well constructed, did not, in my opinion, add an awful lot to the visit and left me feeling a touch queasy (recovered very quickly) afterwards!
The tastings at the end of the visit were well thought through and informed regarding the different flavours that the master-blenders can evoke from the wide variety of the eaux-de-vie distillations that ultimately become the finished product.
Book your ticket either at the exhibition or at the local tourist office.
Very highly recommended outing.

Perfectly plain shop and bar area.
The cocktails were good but the environment and atmosphere was sterile and corporate. Not particularly my cup of tea.
We came 15 years ago and you could sit at a bar and talk to experts. It was a lot of fun back then.

Great tour and great cognac. Although the really good stuff is not included in the tasting. From the tour you find out the art behind the grapes that turn to liquid gold! Very friendly staff. The VR experience is fun I guess but wasn't my cup of tea.

I decided to arrange this tour as a surprise for my wife as this was the last night of our annual road trip, and more importantly she loves Brandy.
It seems you can’t arrange a tour too far in advance (I tried 12 months previously but it wasn’t possible) however I booked it a few days before and we chose the last tour 5:15pm as we were travelling up from Carcassonne on our way home.
Unfortunately the tour was in French (apparently there is one English tour a day) we missed it but it was still fabulous and interesting, and Charlotte our guide did do her best to explain things to us in English when she got chance, she was lovely, as was Sean who we met in the shop who was so knowledgeable (they both were).
Really enjoyed the tasting at the end and I’m not a Brandy drinker, but will now be helping myself to my wife’s Brandy (Hennessy of course) we’ve bought a lovely set of 6 Brandy glasses for a reasonable €32 for our new kitchen.
The trip takes two hours and is truly great, would definitely recommend.

Also, I strongly recommend the VR experience!

Super nice and amazing tour and tasting. I loved everything about this visit and it’s an experience I strongly recommend even for not cognac lovers. The light show and the films were spectacular, the cocktail great, the boat ride was dazzling, the history behind the emporium and the facilities in general were amazing. We bought a couple types included the limited asian edition that was extremely good and worth every euro 👌🏼
This is visit I highly recommend!!
Thank you!

Out of all the cognac cellar visits, this is the BEST one!! If you can only visit one, this is the one to choose.
For EUR29, you get a boat ride, short video, guided explanations, visit to the working cellar, an immersive Virtual Reality experience with 3D goggles and a dégustation of 3 types of drinks.
Wow! What an experience ! Not to be missed.

(Translated by Google) Disappointed, having done several escape games, this one is very basic, only one mechanism in all the rooms, (which is the one that opens the final trap door..), dropped into the room without any real scenario or motivation from the start of the game teacher, good luck! The escape game is based on a main enigma, erroneous help, too many classic padlocks, due to the lack of mechanisms. Too bad despite that it's a beautiful place! I do not recommend for a first escape game.

(Translated by Google) We came as a family (2 children aged 6 and 9) to do the first room after coming across a commercial flyer mentioning ages 6 and up. Highly misleading information: these escape games are NOT suitable for children, nor are they suitable for adults who are new to the genre if you come with a view to success. The level of the puzzles is high, which was strangely announced to us with great pride at the end of the game "only 1 group in 5 succeeds" by the game master. It is therefore important to understand this escape game correctly. which is anchored in the basics of the genre with very few mechanisms and quite repetitive at times, stringing together a multitude of puzzles in just 1 hour. Very negative point on this first room, an element which does not work correctly and required the physical intervention of the game master 3 times because it was blocked. The children (and us too), disappointed at not having been able to finish it, asked if one of the other 2 rooms was simpler, to which the game master told us yes: the 3rd room The disappearance of Rose. We therefore decide to try a second time, telling ourselves that we would not have the same problems and that this would allow the children a little more to appreciate the principle of the escape game. Arriving at the castle the next day we are greeted at the entrance by people surprised to see us again on a second day to whom we explain that we are coming back to try the escape game for the 3rd room since the game master has confirmed to us that this one was simpler than 3rd. The person at reception (apparently also MDJ sometimes) tells us with a smile that the 3rd room is not at all simpler than the 1st… We therefore already start the 2nd adventure relatively disappointed and deceived… and this is confirmed to us. we even found the level of the puzzles higher than in the 1st room but fewer in number and therefore more “achievable” in 1 hour. The hour ends with the mdj announcing to us that we have not succeeded in…. 1 riddle at the end!!! Very unfortunate that the mdj did not decide to guide us further in order to finish as close to the goal taking into account our entire context. By talking again with the people at reception, our very elitist impression of the design of these escape games is confirmed, the objective is to be very complicated with a very low success rate. We are even told that the final enigma had never been found by any group without clues from the MDJ until the previous week when someone had found (!!)…. it's very difficult to understand the point of doing an unfindable enigma without a clue from the GM... in this case you might as well add a little clue in the room to guide the players as little as possible to find this almost impossible to find element. The difficulty in itself is not a problem but this should be made clear beforehand to prevent neophytes or young children from thinking that they will be able to participate/understand. Unfortunately I do not find this approach encouraging for these 2 groups of “players”, however I will recommend this escape game for experienced players. Attached a photo of the flyer which is more than misleading to our perception “from 6 years old”. The 2nd MDJ who was at reception explained to us that she tended to adapt a little more to the players, this approach would have been much more appreciated.

Indeed, I started with the first then the second and I ended with the 3rd (which just opened its doors a few weeks ago), they follow each other chronologically with different scenarios but always with an interesting plot ! The rooms are very well decorated and thanks to this we immediately put ourselves in the scenario, the game masters who, by the way, are very well disguised which also allows for a better simulation during the game. I strongly recommend since I I had a great time during the sessions!

Le Château des Enigmes is a must-visit attraction located in the charming towns of Saint Pierre, Saint Denis, and Le Chateau. The area also boasts two picturesque forests, the Forest of Saint-Trojan and the Saumonard Forest, offering sheltered beaches ideal for families with young children. Visitors can explore oyster farms which are a major tourist draw on the island. The castle itself is stunning and surrounded by beautiful gardens.

It’s basically a 30-stage pirate themed treasure hunt, set in a small but very pretty castle and its garden. The puzzles are really varied, from obstacle course challenges to problems to solve. We did it with 2x adults, 2x 6 yr olds and 1x8 yr old. Some bits were too hard for the 6 yr olds, but not too frustrating with some parental help. Most of it is well translated, but there’s the odd bit where there’s no translation or it’s done a bit strangely. Didn’t spoil it and I think there’s an app which would help, but I prefer to put my phone away for stuff like this.
The staff were really helpful and we had a very jolly 3-4 hours there, including our picnic. There’s a snack bar with drinks/ice cream, a bit of food and coffee from a MaxPax type machine. That suited us fine as we’d bought a picnic and there are tons of nice shady picnic benches.
Most of the treasure hunt is in shady outdoor areas, so it’s a pretty smart option on a hot day. You’re not just roasting in the sun as you would be visiting many attractions.
Overall, would recommend. Maybe a bit expensive at €70 for 5 of us, but that just seems to be how much things cost.

Fantastic children's treasure hunt in french and English. Be aware the 27 clues are spaced over a couple of miles of woodland walks which are delightful. Lovely shady walkways through mature woods ending up at the house.
The clues can be tricky too, so not a complete walk over either. Best treasure hunt we have been on, here or UK.
Staff delightful
Only 4 stars as the food available is limited to panini...crepes...ice cream at a single place but your kids will sleep well afterwards.
Well worth a trip

Lots of activities for the kids, including a rope bridge and pirate quiz.
Not much for the adults.

Very beautiful chateau, but you have limited access to the interior. Signs are in English as well as French. Fun activity for all to do the treasure hunt for clues. You receive a certificate at the end.

Enjoyable quest around the castle. Children 6 and 8 were the perfect age. Most areas with english translation which was helpful. Fairly expensive for what you get hence 4 stars

Beautiful castle from the oustide, the inside was very bland. It is definitely targeted towards kids as the whole castle is centered around a pirate themed tour. It is a recommendation to visit with kids, otherwise I wouldn’t recommend visiting as you have to pay €16 entree fees.

Great value wine tour and tasting!
I visited in September with some of my friends. For 6 euros, we were given a tour of the grounds and vineyards and a tasting of several wines. Since it was quiet, it was just a 4 of us on the walk-around. Laura gave us the tour and she was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine making process and the history of the château.

We visited Château Castera on the 12th of September and we had a lovely visit. The Château has a long history which is not very common on the area. The visit through the century old buildings, the vineyards and the technical wine producing areas was great and ended with a very nice tasting of the wines of the estate. Our guide, Clara, wonderful in every way. Highly recommended.

Really nice wildlife park. Amazing animals and really well thought out for kids with regular play zones dotted around. The park is huge and we spent a full day there and would happily return again. Price was very good value. Wear comfy shoes and take some Euro coins for the multiple vending points around the park to top up drinks and snacks.
John Woodcraft — Google review
Really welcoming, easy to find and park, good facilities. Staff member who greeted us had very good English. Was clean and well maintained. Only criticism, and very minor would be would be great if there was another food outlet further away from the entrance towards the back of the park for when children are hungry, whining and need a break from walking, this was probably more bad planning on our part than an issue with the park.
Louise Jenkinson-Dix — Google review
Came here many years ago and was pleasantly surprised with all the improvements.
They have thought of the little ones and have installed play areas.
We found little rest areas with drinks machines and toilets.
The shop was fully stocked and the cafe looked inviting.
Well worth a visit

Nice place for a good family day. Lots of space and play grounds for kids. And the entrance is not expensive.
Larysa Melnyk — Google review
Awesome place for hiking in family, age 2+. Take care having good walking shoes. Plenty of trees shadow.
Charging station for electric cars, two places.
You can have a picnic directly on the ground, blanket needed. Otherwise, you can have some eating at the cafeteria. There are some automatic soda and candy machines distributors. Be aware, for the machines only cash is accepted, not credit cards.
A huge variety of european animals. Under construction, some variety of vegetables and grapes.
Many informations are provided in English.
Be aware going to bathroom before beginning, right after the main entrance, because after, there are not so many toilets.
If going calmly and taking the time (specially if with a baby carriage), you'll need 5 to 6 hours.
The souvenirs shop at the exit is horribly expensive ( I'm pretty sure if prices were lower, people would spend more). Also you have an exit without entering the shop.
Hydroalcoolic spray and gel provided below gates, toilets and kids games area.
Follow the signs (the red ones) for a better experience.
Prepare your shoes and some water and sandwiches and you'll spend some instructive and quality time in family !
Take care.

A great afternoon! Love the general ambience of woody shade, good for sunny days. Well priced for the range of animals you see. Enclosures are mostly well done and they're doing a lot to improve things. The newer areas are really nice. Definitely recommend.

Really lovely zoo, even in February on a nice day. We greatly enjoyed all the native (and a few introduced) animals. You can go see lions and tigers in every big city around the world, this place is quite unique and I love the diversity of the exhibits. Great for kids and adults!

Took my grandson here while visiting my sister in France for a few days. It was a lovely experience. Plenty to see and do. The animals looked well and cared for, Every where was clean.

Lovely mini Zoo, we had decided to go to Zoodyssee after we thought it was too far to drive to visit the big zoo la palmyre.
We took my almost 2 year old son. Price was acceptable for what you got to see.
2 adults was €26.00 under 3s go free.
You were given a map and the receptionist spoke great English so was able to explain how long it takes roughly to go around the zoo and also told us there were arrows all around to help you follow the path around the whole of the park.
On the map there were 61 different animals however there were a few we did not see either due to them being hidden, asleep or just that they no longer had that animal.
A short walk from the entrance there is a petting zoo area which my son absoloutly loved.
Throughout the walk around the zoo there are plenty of picnic areas with plenty of seating and also lots of benches too.
There is a café, although it was not open when we visited which we really would have appreciated. However we never really understood the times the French cafés and restaurants opened so this was no surprise.
All in all it was a good trip out, fairly priced and not too long or short.
The Le Saint Sabastien dinner theater is a must-see in southwest France for its delicious food and creative performances. The warm welcome, hearty cooking, intimate setting, but most importantly the professional and creative talent make this theater a favorite of locals and tourists alike.
So much fun. We had a lovely evening.

This place is something very special! You can also make a reservation to stay at the Abbey where the nuns slept and the rooms are absolutely breathtaking, beautiful, have excellent views and is a uniquely French experience. The moment you step on the grounds here, you feel as if you are entering a space that has a long rich history. There is always something going on here year round. Probably the best time to visit the Abbaye to the Ladies of Saintes would be in the summer when the Saintes Music Festival is happening. I went there during summer and had the time of my life there and also in the spring. Even during the summer season I did not feel this place was crowded or distracting the serenity of the town. There is also a lot of great restaurants nearby and if you are lucky to stay long enough, there's an amazing farmers market outside withing a 5-10 minute walk where you'll find out sorts of hidden gems.

Amphithéâtre gallo-romain de Saintes is a remarkable ancient site dating back to 40 AD, during the reign of Emperor Claudius. With a seating capacity for up to 15,000 spectators, it hosted gladiator fights and battles with wild beasts. The lower tier of seating and some arches are still intact, allowing visitors to envision the grandeur of the past. Despite being overgrown, the shape and form of the amphitheatre are clearly visible.
Impressive historical site, with nice views of other parts of town

The Gallo-Roman amphitheatre of Saintes is an amazing remnant of our long ago past. We rented the audio guides (available in English and French) and spent a fascinating 45 minutes immersing ourselves in history and architecture. Don't miss the photo exhibition on the outer wall; just follow the green line around to the back of the Accueil building. It shows photos of all the phases of the amphitheatre for the last 200 or 300 years. There is an ingenious picnic table to enable someone in a wheelchair to pull up under the top and enjoy a meal at a table. Brilliant idea.

If you have watched the popular series of “Spartacus” or have read the Roman Empire’s history, this arena makes a perfect sense of how the Romans used to entertain themselves and enjoy the show while punishing the culprits.

The construction limited what we could do to some degree, but overall the site was amazing. I can't wait to come back and see when it is all repaired!!!
Richard Von Stetten — Google review
Scam, just as many other reviews say. You pay for entry, but can't visit anything at all due to construction works. Views are even better from outside. This should be closed or at least free entry as long as the works are going on. Don't waste your time on this one! Honestly, renovated parts look worse than the original parts.
Mark Vanhalle — Google review
The construction is significant and it feels as though they're making it a bit too much like an amusement park, but hopefully when they're done there will be more education. We declined to pay and simply enjoyed from outside.

So gorgeous! The fares to get in are so cheap I couldn’t believe it and although the monument is currently undergoing reconstruction, this doesn’t take away from its impressive features and intriguing history. Though impressively stupendous from the outside, I wasn't overly impressed with the interior especially the minimal details and exhibitions available. Very friendly staffs here, welcoming and really give you enough information to explore this castle. There are rooms on the basement level and about three huge rooms upstairs. Be prepared to climb the ancient winding staircase but really worth it especially when you reach the roof. The rooftop gives you a stunning unimpeded view of the city. Unfortunately only the largest turret was accessible as the smaller turret was closed, not sure why. But for purely exquisite views of Old Niort and surroundings, it's really worth exploring Donjon de Niort Castle. By the way, there's no lavatory or lift here but really suitable for all ages if you're fit or curious enough to explore this Castle.

This is a hidden gem! A boat tour along the canal with your own personal local guide :) they speak English, ask for Henry, he was delightful!
We took the boat along the canal and got to see amazing nature and the beautiful small town of Coulon.
You have several options, you can even get a pick-nick basket provided to you during your ride, which can be anywhere between one hour and 2 hours, I believe. The cost is about €16 per person for a more private boat ride or about €12 per person together with other people.

We paid 200 € for the Standard room and that was much too expensive for this hotel. The room is rather small, the furniture already a little used and there were stains on the carpet. The service was alright but not what you would expect in this price category. However, if you get a better price (around 120€), this is a good hotel. And the breakfast was great (a lot of homemade things and great variety).

Elegant hotel in historical surroundings.
Those who know Mercure know that there can be positive surprises. This hotel is one of the most impressive examples of how a hotel in a historic building can create a magical mix of modern and antique from the given constraints. The rooms and their furnishings are a perfect mix of modern materials and historic colors.
The restaurant and bar offer international standards in the surroundings. The breakfast is adapted to the needs of international customers and also offers regional specialties.
The only downer is the Internet connection, which is always a headache.

Unforgettable stay in an outstanding setting. Located within the walls of the former Corderie's armoury, the hotel is intimately connected to its past. While history fans will be touched by the colour code brilliantly inspired by the uniforms of French Navy officers, travellers simply seeking a peaceful haven will not feel overwhelmed by the weight of history in this fully modernised and renovated building. The rooms are spacious and include all indispensable commodities - with the thick mattresses being a delightful bonus.
As for eating, the hotel restaurant, La Corderie Royale, offers fine dining, featuring food of irreproachable quality with ingredients sourced from the Charente-Maritime département, and there are good menu options that do not come out excessively expensive. For the morning, the continental breakfast buffet proposed in a cosy room adjacent to the bar has delicious sweet and savoury options, and the fresh viennoiseries are delicious even on French standards!
Finally, the staff of this hotel deserves a special appraisal. Receptionists and the cleaning crew are extremely respectful and caring towards each guest.

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the nostalgia of early 20th-century shops at Musée des Commerces d'autrefois. The museum spans four floors, featuring faithfully reconstructed apothecaries, grocers, bistros, and even a classroom with wooden desks and inkwells. Visitors can indulge in childhood memories or reminisce about their grandparents' era while exploring the richly arranged objects.
Very nice place, gave many reminders

Cordouan Lighthouse, constructed between 1584 and 1611, stands at the convergence of the estuary and is accessible by boat trips or on foot during low tide. The surrounding village has a rich history rooted in salt marshes, maritime trade, and agriculture. Today, it has embraced tourism due to its natural surroundings.
Beautiful restoration, unexpected architecture, nice sailing and special thanks to the office lady who called me to make sure I would make it on time and waited for me with the ticket to make sure I could board even though I was a few minutes late. Very much appreciated! All in all I am super happy I could make it!

Magnifiek, zeer mooie vuurtoren! Een echte aanrader. Het is wel vrij prijzig.
De toren zelf is 67 meter hoog en verdeeld in 7 verdiepingen.

Magnificent, very beautiful lighthouse! Highly recommended. It is quite pricey.
The tower itself is 67 meters high and divided into 7 floors.
Departed from the port of Port-medoc with the company/boat "la boheme". It is best to book in advance to check the departure times. These depend on the weather and tides. We paid about 170 euros for 2 adults and 2 young children. It will take you about 4 hours. First you take a boat for 40 minutes to the sandbank. Then you transfer into an amphibious vehicle to be dropped off on the sand. From there it is about a 15 minute walk over the sand and through the water. Regular water shoes, sandals or flip-flops are recommended. It is also best to take a pullover for the fresh sea breeze.
At the lighthouse you can follow the guide or visit the tower independently with a brochure in English or German. We did the tour ourselves within this beautiful tower. Highly recommended!
You can feel free to eat something there. You have to bring this yourself, there are no dining options there.
After about 2 hours we met back at the amphibious vehicle.

Beautiful building that is so much more than your everyday lighthouse where you can only climb the steps and nothing more. Accessible only at low tide, getting here is quite the adventure. The rocks around the lighthouse are a good place to go looking for mussels, oysters, anemones and crabs, and the road that become accessible makes it seem as you though could walk all the way back to shore.
The only thing that is less nice is that, once you are done and just want to go home, the boat ride back seems to take an eternity.
Emma Schouten — Google review
Amazing moment! You take a boat trip to the sea then a boat-truck ride to the lighthouse. The boat floats then rides the bottom of the ocean. Depending of the tides, you may have to walk 10 minutes on the sand/bottom of the ocean at some point to reach the boat-truck, that was a unique experience!
The lighthouse is beautiful, the last one inhabited in the world. The wardens are also giides, friendly and funny. A MUST DO!

Absolutely stunning! The most amazing lighthouse I've ever seen. Right out in the ocean and takes a while to get there by boat. An absolute must visit for anyone visiting Bordeaux or the Médoc region. There's a reason this lighthouse is one of only two in the world to have received UNESCO World Heritage status! It's absolutely stunning on the interior.
Luckily my son and I can both understand French so didn't have any transaction issues with the guardians of the lighthouse, who live and when on-site and are a fountain of knowledge. I'm not sure if they speak any other languages, but even if they don't then the signs and posters are helpfully in both French and English.
The only negative point of my trip was that the company you use to travel to the lighthouse if coming from Port Médoc (La Bohème Vedette) only gave us one hour to complete the tour before, but I could have easily spent two hours on this magnificent lighthouse!
Awesome site with ruins of a cathedral as big as Paris Notre Dame. The visit does not take long and the history behind is quite interesting

We were very happy to be able to rent a boat here during our visit to the Marais. We inquired about availability before arriving and the reply was prompt and reservation straightforward. Once there, the service was friendly, the map provided (for the self-guided rowing) helpful and the route planned beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable. We were lost in the midst of natural scenery with nary a sign of shops or commercial stops and it was perfect.

The Cité de l'Huître museum offers a delightful and captivating experience. It features a fascinating exhibition that explores the intricacies of oyster farming, ranging from the larvae capture to the renowned "affinage en Claire" technique. The highlight of the visit is undoubtedly the informative tours of the Claires, where visitors can witness every aspect of this unique agricultural process. Additionally, there is a hands-on workshop on oyster opening that enlightens participants on proper techniques.
Had an absolutely lovely experience here. Visited the museum, which was very interesting in and of itself.
The true standout, however, were the tours of the Claires (ponds for refining the oyster taste). Our guide enthusiastically demonstrated every part of oyster farming. From the capture of larvae to the famous "affinage en Claire". To top it all off, we got a workshop in opening oysters (yes, you can eat the ones you open) where I discovered I've been doing it wrong all my life. At the end, I started dreaming about starting my own oyster farm.
Finally, it has a nice little restaurant if you want to taste oysters and seafood (but also salads and other dishes).

Dubbel gevoel hieraan overgehouden.

I have mixed feelings about this. If you like oysters, a visit to the area where the best oysters in the world come from is definitely worthwhile. At the same time, it doesn't mean much. You can take a bike ride, but the bikes almost fall apart. You can tour the area, but without a guide you won't really know what you are looking at. You can go to the museum, but it is only in French and the information does not go beyond basic level. You can eat oysters, but you can do that anywhere here. You do not have to pay an entrance fee for this. In fact, it is cheaper in other places. Ultimately, we expected more.
If you decide to go, choose either the morning or the afternoon. Demonstrations take place around 11 a.m. or at 3 p.m.

La Rochelle Aquarium is a family-friendly aquarium that features 12,000 marine animals and 600 different species. The aquarium is located in La Rochelle, France and is well-known for its bubbling seawater tanks containing around 600 aquatic species. The aquarium is easy to navigate and has interactive displays and educational programs that are great for the whole family.

I went to visit the aquarium on a Thursday morning and I could freely enjoy all the wonders because it was not crowded. It is a very calming and educational place and is perfect for the whole family, adults and children. It includes a multitude of aquariums and numerous species of fish and marine life, but also an Amazonian forest. At the exit there is also a toy shop with a wide variety of plush toys in the form of fish and other specific animals. I recommend the visit without any hesitation

I have been in a few European aquariums and this one is only good. This aquarium is underrated. It's actually not that small, with toddlers, we spent a good 1.5-2 hours in here. love the long opening hours from 10-20. Totally worth coming back to La Rochelle for. The first floor has all the local Atlantic fish (which are like fish we eat? So they were pretty ugly). But when you first come in, you come into a very cool jellyfish tunnel. Then on the upper floor, you start to see more colorful fish from Indo-pacific and that was really fun. The facilities are nice, they have some really cool sea horses that I haven't really seen elsewhere. Some tanks are low where you can look from above without a glass (a lot of confidence in people not touching the fish...) and a lot of different type of lobsters and crabs. They have a large tank with maybe 6 medium and small sharks which you can see really well. The coolest part was the sea turtle which I honestly have not seen anywhere else. Maybe this isn't world class like the Osaka Aquarium or the Okinawa one but it's pretty good and I would probably get an annual membership next time. Absolutely no crowds on an October Monday. Awesome.

This is a superb aquarium and was the highlight of our visit to La Rochelle.
There is very reasonable parking just outside which makes getting there very easy. All the exhibits have dual language information so perfect for French and English speakers. The aquarium is large over two floors organised by ocean and finishing with a tropical rainforest exhibit!
As a family of four it cost €60, so not a cheap activity, we were there about two hours. However the kids loved it, it was very well done, educational and exciting so I’d say worth the fee. I’d recommend a visit.
Chris Brierley — Google review
There were some interesting species to see at La Rochelle Aquarium!
We enjoyed walking around, having a look at the different fish and taking photos. However, it was so busy and loud that we could barely hear ourselves think - it was also really difficult to get to the front of each tank to be able to have a closer look at the fish inside.
There also wasn’t as much variety as we expected for the ticket price, which was a bit of a shame.
I definitely do not recommend going during a school holiday or it will be overly packed but, otherwise, it was a nice enough experience.

I went here with my family. The aquarium was extremely packed with people even thought it was late afternoon. There was a big line of people in front of entrance. I advance you to buy tickets online. It was really hot inside, probably thanks to the crowds. You have to find one spot by the glass and just move with the crowd, if you want to see everything. Also, I was looking forward to buying the aquariums touristic coin, but they were sold out. But I have to say that the place is huge and they've got many kinds of fish, crabs, etc. It was beautiful, but the crowds were uncomfortable. Overall, it was nice.
Bunker La Rochelle (Museum) is an underground bunker constructed in 1941, situated in the midst of the city. The bunker has been preserved for over 80 years and showcases military artifacts & WWII memorabilia, adorned with marine frescoes. The majority of the writing is in French; however, translated pamphlets are available to discover the history of La Rochelle from 1939 to 1945. It served as headquarters for U-boat officers during World War II.
Visited La Rochelle and this museum popped up on Google.
It is rather small, however, it is full of interesting information. The paintings on the wall and the ceiling are rather impressive.
We were given a folder with an English translation of the boards which was really useful. It can be a little bit cramped, so we found it better to find a bigger room to read the guide rather than room by room.
If you are from England and have visited the Western Approaches museum in Liverpool, then it's the same kind of size. Also like Western Approaches it is in an underground bunker, which was previously forgotten and locked away.
Worth a visit and really interesting. Very friendly staff. Thank you!
Matt Belcher — Google review
A great museum although mostly in French, the information in English wasn’t quite enough so we got the audio guides which is an extra €2pp. One of our guides died about half an hour later so make sure the batteries are charged. All in all, a great experience, very informative and staff speak English. Since it’s a bunker it would’ve been more informative to focus more on that though rather than the invasion of France and the surrounding areas. Regardless of that it was a good visit. Cost of entry is €7.50 per adult.
Some things to add:
-there was translation in German and Spanish on the exhibits as well.
- there was no toilets in the museum
- you can pay by card
- they need an ID/passport to hold as deposit when you’re in the museum which I didn’t understand and appreciate as I almost left without my ID

This is an amazing place to visit.
They have an English guide you can read as you go around which I recommend as there is so much information on the place and without it the bunkers and displays are difficult to understand and their meaning gets lost (unless you are fluent in French obviously).
