Grassy seaside campground for tents & caravans, with a BBQ area & a small grocery store/snack bar.
The best campsite we’ve ever been to. Run by a lovely family, who put every effort into making sure everyone enjoys their experience. Spotlessly clean and lovely attention to detail. Clachtoll beach is stunning and very easily accessible from the campsite. I’d recommend this to everyone - we will definitely be back! Also, if you’re in the area try Peets for gorgeous, local fresh seafood.

Brilliant campsite with a host of little touches that make Clachtoll Beach Campsite stand out from others.
A very warm welcome awaits all guests; there is a distinct 'family' vibe from both the hosts and the people who stay here - even though the weather had turned slightly 'Scottish' for a brief period (but hey; it's October!!)
Well done to all who run and manage this site and thank you for a wonderful stay.

Possibly the nicest campsite we stayed at ever. Owner was super helpful took time out to show us around and made us feel at home. Great facilities for borrowing water sports gear a nice area to have a social around the fire pit was a great touch. A good amount of washing up areas too. Toilets and showers could get a little busy. Fantastic location on the beach just absolutely gutted we couldn't stay there and it's the other end of the country from home!

Good location close to the beach, however the atmosphere wasn't really for us. Facilities were a little basic for the number of people occupying the site - it was extremely busy with a lot of families and children making use of the communal areas and available equipment. Probably wouldn't stay here again but through no real fault of the owners/managers.

We had a very windy 2 night stay at this lovely campsite, whilst travelling the NC 500. The campsite is located in a stunning location and they have thought of every way to help make your stay an excellent one.
From the equipment for activities in the sea, to the communal fire pit.
Lastly just wanted to thank the staff, we left our toiletry bag and they have gone out of their way to have it delivered to our home.
Thank you for such a lovely stay can't wait to come back, we'll be staying longer than the two nights next time.

We have just spent a fantastic weekend here with friends during Easter weekend. Absolutely fantastic campsite, very clean, excellent facilities. Very helpful, friendly staff and very much dog friendly.
Great sized pitches and well spaced . Definitely be back again with the kids and dog.
Thank you again for a fantastic weekend, definitely be back again.

This place is excellent! A warm welcome and a guided tour by Tom of all facilities. There were paddle boards and wetsuits, outdoor shower and buckets and spades all free to borrow.
The toilets and showers were immaculate. There was a fire pit and barbecue area for socialising. Denise was an ace baker, and cake and tray bakes were available in reception . There was a small shop nearby. The scenery was heavenly. And ...Did I mention Denise's fab cakes ?

This is one of the best stops we made on the NC500! The site has so many amenities that make it stand out, from fresh fish for sale and a herb wall and cooking facilities, to kayak and paddle boards for use. We especially enjoyed the communal fire pit, as this was the only site we stayed at where we had the opportunity to meet other campers. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and we enjoyed exploring the beach and around the site. Highly recommend!

The best campsite I’ve ever stayed at. Great location and so many facilities. We enjoyed borrowing the kayak and paddle board! The fire pit area is beautiful and very relaxing. Good sized pitches. We stayed 2 nights but wished we stayed longer. The staff were all really friendly and chatty. Will stay again!

I have just wanted to say big thank you to Andy and Tom who run the campsite for making our stay between 28/4-2/5 a truly amazing and memorable experience.
They are approachable, very friendly, knowledgeable of the area and very supportive. I would like to praise the way the run the campsite as this is arguably the best campsite we have ever been.
The campsite itself is amazing and situated in specular location. It has everything the other revives are saying - fully stocked, with wetsuits, paddle boards and kayaks available for borrowing free of charge. It's very well thought through to be truly family-oriented with board games and toys for kids situated closely to area when you can wash dishes or do laundry. The night time fire bit bring campsite community together and give option to borrow glassware.
The pitches are well maintained, presented and marked with grass being regularly cut and turf designated for parking vehicles.
The reception office print out weather forecast in the morning and can advise on nearby walks with option to borrow laminated maps of surrounding area for navigation.

Highly recommend staying here! The place is like an attraction in itself. Extremely friendly welcoming place ideal for the family and they have thought of everything. Myself and my brother stopped off on our bikes when they were full, but managed to squeeze us in. And I'm so glad they did. Best campsite j have ever been too, and one I'll be returning to with my partner and children. Thank you for having us.

If Carlsberg did campsites! From the warmest of welcomes to the included water toys and equipment to the communal hang out space with fire pit, this campsite has it all. And you won't find a nicer beach anywhere in Scotland .
You can tell as soon as you start speaking to the owner that this place is a bit different from the rest and you know you're going to enjoy the stay. It's very laid back, very dog friendly, has massive pitches and the owner gets it, and can't do enough to make sure you get the most from your stay.
I would recommend a stay here, we'll definitely be back next year.

Best campsite I've been to! Super friendly welcome, and the site has been really well thought out with lots of quirks. It was clean and well maintained (looks like it has been done up not too long ago). Great showers and a couple of ensuite style toilet/shower rooms. The location was amazing, next to a beach with beautiful clear water and a great sunset. We had only booked one night but it's definitely a place you could spend a longer camping holiday.

What an amazing gem of a campsite, with touring caravans, static caravans and plenty of camping pitches, both serviced and unserviced... Really warm and friendly welcome and tour of the park, including been shown to my own pitch. Facilities were spotless, and very well equipped... Everything that you could possibly need. I would highly recommend this amazing site for the quality, the facilities, and let's not forget, the beach, the views and the fact that it is on the NC500, so it is VERY popular, and you'll certainly need to book in advance, for sure!

Amazing campsite. Only found it by chance and will definitely be coming back. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Amazing facilities, and in a perfect location just a couple of minutes walk from a lovely beach. Wish we could’ve stayed longer.

Have stayed at Clachtoll several times over the last 5 years, and it's our favourite campsite. Every time we visit something has been improved or expanded, which shows how much they care about the experience they provide. We love the closeness of the beach and how dog-friendly the site is in general.
We camped out this time. The space for pitching tents is nice and level and is broadly well served with grass and earth. That said, if you look around there are rocks everywhere (it is the north-west coast), so don't be surprised if your pegs need to find a gap between buried stones. A mallet is recommended. Wind breakers are available for free, and in hindsight we should have used one while pitching as the sea breeze made for a challenge. The site does quiet down nicely in the evening.
Make sure you book in advance as the site is regularly full and has to turn away on-the-day visitors.
We'll be visiting for years to come.

Clachtoll is a fantastic campsite! Staff are so friendly and helpful and the owners are clearly so passionate about what they do, they really have thought of everything. We loved chatting to Tom when we arrived and he gave us so much information and advice for our NC500 trip. The campsite has everything you need, from free use of the kayaks, wetsuits, paddleboards etc to shampoo and shower gel. It was a slightly busier/noisier campsite than some we stayed at during our trip but is so great for kids and families. The facilities are spotless and the location is beautiful. We were unlucky with the weather but would love to come back again and enjoy what Clachtoll has to offer.

If you want to be near an absolutely gorgeous beach, then this is where want to stay. There's a wee shop at reception where you can get the essentials. There's spotless toilets and showers, there's a dish washing area, a barbecue area microwaves, toasters, wet suits all free to use. Lochinver only 6 miles away if you fancy a pie from the Lochinver Larder. You can't go wrong staying here, oh and it's dog friendly. You can have electric hook up if you need it. There's 2 parts to the campsite electric hook up and no electric. Be sure to check which one is best for you.
Anne Mcleod — Google review
Absolutely loved this place! A campsite with a heart ❤️! We were too late to book for hook up, it's a very popular site, such friendly helpful staff that have put a lot of thoughts into how to make a campsite feel like home! Very dog friendly - treats on arrival! There's various communal areas with toasters, fridges, places to BBQ under cover. They light a fire every evening and any musicians gather and play - there was a flute player, bango, violin and guitar when we were there! Added to this the beach is glorious and 5 minutes walk from the site. A beautiful sheltered beach to use the free paddle boards and kayaks that the site provides. Showers and toilets are clean and warm. We towed a caravan there, it's possible but quite hair raising at points along the twisty narrow roads, but worth it! There are outside showers for when you get back from the beach and they are warm such a treat! 😂

Stayed here while doing the NC500, and loved it, spent a couple of hours walking on the beach, and enjoying the beautiful views. The site itself was great, pitches are lovely, and the welcome was great, really friendly staff and the facilities were great.

Visited in August during our NC500 trip. Extremely clean facilities, friendly staff and a very short walk to the beach. Would definitely visit again.
Perfect for couples/families. The washing machine area was well equipped.

Extremely welcoming site just behind a fantastic beach with interesting historical and geological stuff to check out. The owners really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and touches like the communal firepit, help yourself dog stuff and free use of water sport equipment makes this site stand out. You will need your Leveling ramps though!

Best camp site by far we have came across. Everything you can think of is here. Even the usage of SUPs, Kayaks etc... all free to use. Outside fire put area for at night also. Very clean and great service. Staff were amazing and helpful also. Will be booking to come back for a long stay shortly

The best campsite we’ve ever been to, such a beautiful location. Family run site and the owners are fantastic. We love going every year. They provide equipment to use, treats for dogs, and I highly recommend Denise’s cakes!

Fabulous campsite right by a beautiful sandy beach. Fantastic facilities outside kitchen's bbq etc. Wonderful fire pit and loads of other facilities you can even borrow wetsuits and surf boards. Board games for families, absolutely wonderful. Most importantly they allowed dogs which was good news for our little dog Beau she even had a welcome pack of doggie biscuits
This wasn't our 1st choice of site but I'm so glad they didn't except dogs as we wouldn't have stumbled accross this little gem

The Achmelvich Beach Youth Hostel is a basic accommodation situated close to the shore. It provides shared cooking and washing facilities for its guests. The hostel's location is excellent, and visitors can enjoy the stunning scenery of Achmelvich Beach, which features light sandy beaches and blue waters that stand out in northern Scotland. Even though the water temperature remains cold, people engage in outdoor activities such as swimming and kayaking while wearing wetsuits to keep warm.
I absolutely love this place. The hostel is located on a wee hill overlooking the bay and surrounded by lush green hills all around. Time disappears as you sit by the bay, or on the rocky green peninsula (as I did), watching the sun slowly set in the distance. The water in the bay is crystal clear, and the sand is so white. The common room is large and cozy, and the kitchen is well-stocked. There is a yard in front with benches where you can relax and listen to the neighboring sheep. The rooms are clean, and split with curtains and walls for every 2 bunk beds, which was nice. The gentleman that was working there was very friendly and helpful. This is the place to go if you want to get far away from the rest of the world and enjoy the quiet and peaceful beauty of rural Scotland.
Steve Aviv Kleinman — Google review
The location is good, close to Achmelvich beach which is really and indescribably beautiful beach for me personally. Now I understand why people say Scottish beaches are beautiful! The good part about the room that you can have some privacy by closing the curtains in front of your bed. The mattress was uncomfortable. But overall the hostel was good!

Located right on the beach, warm welcome plenty of crockery and free food, ensuite toilet in room 2, nice welcome at breakfast. Very very quiet
Not good: Room-price relation is laughable. I had warm hotel rooms with ensuite bathroom with bathtub for cheaper

Excellent hostel, ready meals available, dorms sectioned off into small areas with thick curtains for privacy, nice staff, good cooking facilities, decent shower, lovely beach nearby. Only down side is no WiFi and no mobile reception. There is a small shop on site nearby for essentials.

Amazing location, the beach is lovely. The staff are great and helpful. Good room and good value
John Hardman — Google review
A fantastic hostel. The dorm room I was in contains 4 sets of bunkbeds each behind a curtain that can be closed. When I was there in early May I had one of these zones all to myself. Practically as good as a private room. Good showers, toilets, kitchen and communal space with log fire. Plenty of parking. Very friendly owners and the live in staff member. Well worth stopping by. Narrow road from Lochinver to the hostel. No phone signal or wifi here. Good information maps available on walking routes. Snacks available for purchase at the hostel.

Thank you Calmac at Ullapool. My wife left her jacket on the ferry from Stornoway on Sunday afternoon. Staff at the Ullapool terminal and on the ship were very helpful the following morning and discovered that the jacket had been taken off at Stornoway after the return trip. It was sent back to Ullapool and then sent on to us by post and received this morning (Thursday). What more could one ask? We wanted to reimburse the postage plus something extra but instead it was suggested that we make a donation to the RNLI, which we will do. We were very impressed by the comfortable, smart and well maintained ferry. Excellent trip.
EssexIan InUK — Google review
The on ship crew was great as was the loading crew in Ullapool. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the online and reservations staff or the loading crew at Stornoway.
We were two couples traveling together and took the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry and planned to return on the Tarbert to Uig ferry. We saw no means in the online system to book both trips simultaneously. When we booked the return ferry (the evening prior to departing for the island) the first couple to book got in and the second couple got an error message that the booking could not be completed online and we needed to call for the reservation. Of course, they don't provide evening office hours so we could not call until the following morning just a short time before the ferry to Stornoway departed. Only then did we learn that the ferry was full on the return trip. And CalMac maintains no standby notification system. You actually have to show up at departure to see if you can get on. Since the only other option for return was from Stornoway back to Ullapool, and that ferry leaves earlier than the one from a Tarbert, we couldn't risk waiting at Tarbert and not getting a standby slot and being stuck all night on the island.
We therefore had to return to Ullapool and ride three hours in the rain to get to our hotel near Uig. It turned out that the Tarbert ferry had several spaces where our motorcycle would have fit, but we were already on our way back to Ullapool by then.
Just appalling customer service and online reservation system. How hard is it to maintain an online standby list and notify customers if they clear due to a cancellation? Airlines do this all the time.
I likely won't use CalMac again, but if I did I would avoid their online reservation system and call in and get the agent to book all trips at the same time to ensure passage on all segments before any ticket is purchased.
The last issue was boarding at Stornoway. The loading person directed us to the front of the line as motorcycles generally board first. We have taken many ferries in the States and in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and this has always been the case. After sitting there for nearly an hour (we arrived early), we were told to circle around to the 4th lane. We then waited another 45 minutes and boarded dead last! The only good thing is it wasn't raining and it wasn't unbearably hot in our helmets and riding gear. The person directing the loading hadn't lined vehicles up in order in the lanes as most ferries do. Instead he would take a few from one lane and then another. It reminded me of the old Keystones Cops show.
The CalMac ferry was by far the lowlight of our two week tour of the U.K.
LTVoyager — Google review
I travel to Lewis every three weeks, sometimes with my car. Booking online used tp be very simple, but hey ho, like so many professionals these days, Calmac's web "masters" can't abide an optimised system, obviously fearing that if it works properly then there'd be nothing for them to do. So, some bright spark has come along and screwed it all up again leaving a site that doesn't work.
Martin Morrison — Google review
Not much to say, it's a ferry terminal. You catch the ferry here. Decent seating while you wait and a small play area for kids.

I popped in here today to buy some gifts (of which there are a good selection) and the friendly man on the till asked me about our trip. When he heard that we were on our way to Durness he kindly gave me a map with his suggestions of places to visit on the way. This changed our whole route and without it we wouldn't have seen the beautiful Ardvrek Castle or spent a very happy couple of hours on the sunny Achmelvich Beach. The dog was happy too! Thank you so much for your advice - it has contributed to making this a trip of a lifetime!

This is one of the better tourist information centres that I've visited. In addition to the usual leaflets, there were a wide range of books on sale and the walls were covered in large scale maps. We were able to discuss our travel plans and get advice on places to visit and how easy the roads were to travel along.
The staff also suggested good places to stop for coffee and also spoke to foreign visitors in their language.

Owing to it's knowledgeable and friendly staff, this information centre is a must for anyone visiting the region for the first time. We called in on Thursday 14 September. Just wanted to say thanks to Kathleen for taking time to highlight things to do on the North Coast 500 up to Durness, and recommending the Quinag walk (and helpfully noting them all on a map for us!). Also, for the campsite list. We followed her advice and our trip was greatly enhanced as a result :) Kathleen's genuine enthusiasm for the area really made a difference. Thanks again!
The beach itself is gorgeous, very white sand and blue waters. There are some large rocky areas near the shore which the waves kept hitting, creating a kind of small wave machine effect in one area while the rest of the bay was still (we saw some people with kayaks playing in it) which was very cool to look at. We had an explore on the rocks and there were very nice views of the area/waves from there - and tonnes of shells!!

Beautiful place to stop with a moderate hike up and around the mountain! toilets were amazingly clean. The effort thats been put into the walk with the info carved into the stones is just amazing. By far my favourite stop on my trip, I could have stayed there for days!

Great place to learn about Scottish Geology and take a 1.7km walk/hike with amazing views. There is an easier walk for young children or people with walking difficulties. Easy parking with toilets.

Do not start the trail at the rock hut! We saw so many people turn around as the suggested starting point becomes too steep for most. Starting the trail loop in the opposite direction will be much easier on you. We saw another reviewer suggest this and we’re very grateful we took this route instead. Take your time and enjoy the stunning scenery, viewpoints and areas of interest. It’s definitely worth it and not a view to be missed. :)

Very nice place for a hike. Would recommend the longest circuit. The beginning can be a bit scary if you're not good with heights. Viewpoints on the top are amazing and after the beginning the rest of the route is less scary.
Martijn van de Kerkhof — Google review
Excellent place to learn about the geology of the area. There are several hikes one can take, from easy to more difficult (going up to the view point or doing the 6 mile loop). I'd not recommend going up the steps on a rainy day unless you have good shoes.

Absolutely stunning and a great place for an overnight stay with a campervan, motorhome, or caravan for a small optional donation. Fresh water, EV charging, and big washrooms, and quite honestly the most beautiful sunset I've ever been able to spend and evening with. The Aperol Spritz is an optional but encouraged accompaniment to your night there.
Of course, there's also a cool lookout where you can learn about the area and the significance of the geological findings there. Overall great place to stay on the way across the NC 500.

A wonderful set of walks with amazing views of the landscape. Found the geology lessons a bit bewildering, but the scenery from the high-level route more than made up for that. Superb 1.5 hour walk. Free toilets. Lots of information.

A fairly short walk but pretty steep with some rocks to navigate over and very big stone steps. Option for a shorter walk but if you can, I’d recommend doing the full circuit and taking in the spectacular views from the top viewpoint. It’s so quiet up there. Lots of information about the rocks at the info centre near the start, and along the way. Good parking and toilet facilities available, with a couple of picnic benches.

Spectacular walk and geological site, with great signage. Did you know that Scotland was once connected with North America? (Way, way, way long ago). That's why they share some similar geological features.

Fantastic place to visit if you're nearby. Beautiful views and super cool to learn all about where continents collide. Car park available with lots of space, and toilets were clean. There is an undercover area where you can learn about the history, before heading up the trail to find the Moine Thrust. If you don't have a head for heights, then hold onto to someone. I'm not a fan, but I'm pleased I did it. Would recommend a visit!

One of Scotland's most beautiful beaches. It's a bit off the beat and track with a steep single track decent to the small car park where you'll find public loos, but I think they close in winter. We had a large motor home and it was fine getting in and out.
The beach is a short but steep sandy walk from the car park, so if you have mobility issues, it's not very accessible.

The beach is fantastic to walk and play on, lots of small areas between rocks to shelter from the wind at times as well as plenty of open sand to run and play on. The water is clear and due to it being a flat bay area the kids could walk out into the water a fair distance yet still feel and be safe.
Top place to visit, whether for a beautiful long stroll by yourself or with the family.
Martin Scott — Google review
We stayed in the area for a few days. Just a short walk away.
It's an impressive, long and wide beach. Besides the cool air you feel like being in the caribbean. Blue, green, turquoise water. Crystal clear. And one of the cleanest beaches you'll ever see. Even in summer it was pretty much deserted. Really only a handful of people. Quite surprising, but it's in a pretty remote area.
There are some nice walks around and along the shore. Cross the small hill in the north to get to the equally nice (but smaller) Polin Beach.
A wonderful place to be. To walk. To sunbathe. To have a picnic. Some dog-walkers were here too. There's space for everybody. Our Bulldog enjoyed her freedom very much as well.
At the time we were here there was a good number of jellyfish washed ashore. Be aware in case you have kids or pets with.
A fantastic, impressive beach. A hidden gem. One of the nicest beaches I've ever been to. And I've seen many.

It's a bit of a mission to get to it but it's well worth the journey.
Absolutely amazing beach, I was there in September and it was very quiet! You have to see this place!

Glorious beach with exceptional sand and blue sea water. We visited near dusk in November and it was stunning as the sun set. Small car park next to the beach.

Absolutely stunning! One of the most beautiful beaches in the world but beware, it might look like the caribean but even in summer the water was ice cold!!

Dramatic views within a mile-long canyon with waterfalls & a Victorian suspension bridge.
Incredible place! Spent some time just wondering and admiring how incredible nature can be! You practically looking into ravine! It is a brisk walk down to the bridge and observation deck.

Would highly recommend a visit! Stunning scenery and breath-taking views. We took the suspension bridge (with my eyes shut as I don't like heights) and I just about managed the viewing platform. My wife (not scared of heights) loved every minute of it and got some great photos. Truly worth it. Very interesting history about the bridge. Free car park, which was super close to the falls. They were building a visitors' centre up the way, and so we'll look forward to stopping in there, in years to come when we visit again. We were short on time this visit, but I'm looking forward to doing the longer walk when we go back.
Amie-Louise Lopes Agapito — Google review
Wonderful and well worth a visit. Lovely walks, not too challenging. The bridge is great fun and a little way from the bridge is a separate viewing platform.
Now to the fantastic visitors centre. The staff are so warm, welcoming and professional - a true credit. Tommy was wonderful and made us both a beautiful flat white each. The service was exemplary. (@Tommy - Juniper tree 🌲✅)
The sausage rolls were so tasty as well.
The facilities (toilet/washing) were of a most excellent standard. From the decor to the lovely local handsoap it was difficult to fault the place.
Outside the facilities area was a wall of information to dive into. There was also a handy full length mirror.
Do yourself a favour and take yourself off to this place, it's brilliant.

New building. Lovely new clean toilets. Great stop on a journey. Good path down to gorge, passing river, streams and falls. Bridge accommodates 6 people at time so be prepared to wait to cross. Viewing platform also only 6 people but small sign so whilst some queue and wait, others push forward then a bit of sign pointing and tutting follows... Great photo opportunities
G Tatnell — Google review
Simply stunning area of natural beauty.
Well worth a visit and a walk across the suspension bridge.
You will be very high up, and it does move, so bare that in mind if heights aren’t your thing.
However you can still enjoy the walk to the gorge and the views on the way to the bridge.
The car park may fill up quickly but if you travel to the top of the road (approx 200m in the direction of Ullapool) more free parking is available.
TomBoyNI — Google review
Very nice walk! We did the whole route (yellow path + purple loop) and it took us about 1 hour including many stops for pictures.
At the parking lot there's a cafe with tables and clean and spacious toilets.
Remember to pay for the parking!
Manucrw — Google review
Wow! Only a 10-15 min walk to the suspension bridge itself. This initial part you can get away with using a wheelchair/pushchair but beyond that it's not accessible with wheels.
There is also a slightly terrifying viewing platform further along following on from the suspension bridge.
If you are scared of heights this is NOT for you!
Absolutely stunning views!!
Good footwear recommended as it can be steep/slippery in places.
Definitley worth a visit!
Louise Copinger — Google review
Amazing views from this suspension bridge. The landscape is breathtaking! I highly recommend walking across the bridge and carrying on to the left to another viewing area to get a great picture of the bridge and water fall. Free Carpark too! Highly recommend for anyone doing the NC500
Sam March — Google review
Nice place to walk. You only pay £6 for parking. There are small waterfalls all along the way. A short and easy route.
Yosi Raz — Google review
Absolutely beautiful!!! We were on our holiday doing the NC500 in the motorhome, and this was highly recommended as a site not to be missed. There is now a beautiful cafe with covered outdoor seating, there are rangers to explain different things to you on your walk and the car park even has designated spaces for motorhomes. Everyone was really friendly, and I would definitely recommend it for a visit.
Jennifer Dickson — Google review
Beautiful nature reserve. A short 1km walk from the parking lot takes you to the hanging bridge over the waterfalls. Continuing on the other side of the bridge takes you to the cantilever viewing platform for more amazing views.
There are several other impressive falls on the way to the Gorge
Sauri Gudlavalleti — Google review
A definite must see of the NC500!! Has an amazing suspension bridge that allows you to walk over the gorge and see the falls.
James Kimber (Kimbyyy) — Google review
Another spectacular gem on the NC500. The photos don't do it justice, a must visit. Plenty space to get parked and the suspension bridge is around a 5 - 10 min walk with another short walk to the view point. Stunning views.
neil hedley — Google review
Beautiful scenery photos don’t do it justice, this gorge is also very very high even though it doesn’t look it in many photos. Definitely worth the stop off around the NC500 if you get chance, the bridge is safe even though it does look intimidating! There is a maximum of 6 people at one time on the bridge itself which many people break anyway so it proves it’s safe but would never want to test it!
liam smith — Google review
Stunning, absolutely breathtaking and so unexpected. When driving to this location, it does not feel that this is what you are going to find. The area has undergone some regeneration and created some nice pathways to the bridge and viewpoint along with a decent car park and visitor centre. This is a must-see natural beauty
Lee Finnigan — Google review
A must see stop on the North Coast 500. This place is extremely well kept, from the visitor centre (wow toilets) to the path and gutters so we could still enjoy it in the rain. The suspension bridge and viewing platform offer amazing views. Photos can't quite capture the sheer scale and beauty of this gorge, you have to see it in person!
Nathan Chung — Google review
This is such a stunning place. The routes are really well kept & it's a lovely walk - I think this is my new favourite! The wee cafe has lovely coffee - definitely worth a visit! Photos don't do it justice.

Lovely natural box gorge with spectacular waterfalls and good viewpoints from a suspension bridge and platform. The new visitor centre is great too with some information boards, cafe with covered seating area and toilets.

Amazing walk to do lots of little and big waterfalls. So many amazing views and the nature is just so lovely. Highly recommend for everyone to visit. Plenty of parking , have to pay £5 per car. All money going to donation for keep this place up and running. Very nice looking toilets.clean and well look after. Dog friendly . Nice little cafe with seats. Probably one of the most well looking after places we ever visit in scotland! #nc500

There's some good facilities for motorhomes as well as toilets. The view was obviously incredibly. Must visit on NC500.
Robert Grima — Google review
Well worth stopping at for half an hour.
Awesome suspension bridge and viewing platform plus bonus waterfalls along the way. 30 minute walk total or a longer walk available.
Awesome trail, great free toilets & little cafe.
Parking is pay and display but there is a free car park at the junction next to the National park a whole 1 minute away.
There is a overflow car park further down the road which you could use to make the hike shorted if you don’t have as much time. For directions to the overflow car park pull in the main car park and look at the map.
peter greaves — Google review
I loved visiting this beautiful Gorge. I took a steady walk along the paths to view this waterfall. The walk takes you past large streams/ rivers with small waterfalls along the route. Although the path is not flat , it is firm and fairly accessible. I saw people with walking sticks and crutches doing the walk. I believe it is wheelchair accessible from the parking closer to the waterfall, but please check with the site to confirm this.
The building there is fabulous. Gorgeous spacious toilets, plenty of information, a pleasant seating area with cafe and gift shop. In the carpark there is provision for motorhomes including facilities to top up water and empty chemical toilets for a charge.
The Gorge is National Trust, so free entry for NT members.
This is an excellent place to visit with a bridge over the waterfall and a viewing platform further down the valley with firm paths to access both.
Sandwood Bay Beach is a remote and picturesque coastal stretch located south of Cape Wrath in Scotland. The beach boasts pink sand dunes, a freshwater lake, and is guarded by the imposing rock pinnacle Am Buachaille. Accessible via an approximately 2-mile track from Blairmore or an eight-hour trek from Cape Wrath, Sandwood Bay's highlight is its stunning sand, blue waters, and beautiful scenery.
Such a nice beach!
If you have sunny weather i’d definitely recommend heading over and soaking up the calming vibes of this place.
It’s roughly a 6.7km walk from the car park along a decent 4x4 track.
As a happy bonus (and on a clear day) you can see all the way over to the lighthouse at Cape Wrath.
Better still….it’s a great place to wild camp!
Luke White — Google review
Incredible beach, very remote, requires a ~13km walk (round trip) from the car park. The walk itself is very scenic and peaceful.
A great place to wild camp too.
Lots of sheep around!
Victor L — Google review
It's definitely worth a visit, although it's a long walk there and back so be prepared! The car park has probably the cleanest public toilet in the whole of the UK, thanks to the local warden and John Muir Trust.

Another Stunning Beach. Sandwood Bay. Famous for Mermaids and Shipwrecks Apparently. I Like to Believe It 🤷♀️ Such a Special Place Especially When You're the Only Ones There 🏴
Bhavesh Patel — Google review
Worth the walk! We walked in rain there and rain back, totally drenched but meant we were on Sandwood Bay beach on our own, absolutely spectacular!!!
Mark Spencer — Google review
Beautiful beach, well worth the walk. I'd give yourself 1.5 hours to walk there and probably 2 hours to walk back. The walk is nice but the star of the show is the stunning sand, dunes, and beautiful blue water.
Peter Warner — Google review
A marvellous day out. Stunning scenery, and the prize of the remote beach after a trek across a good, well trodden path. The car park was full when we visited, and rather than park on verges and cause blockages and inconvenience to others, we parked around 1.5 miles away, further back on the approach road. This extended the walk to around 12-13 miles in total. Not a problem for us, but be mindful of parking issues when visiting during busy periods.
Eoghann — Google review
A 90' walk-in or 40' ride-push by MTB from the roadside to the S. We arrived from Cape Wrath lighthouse, 3hrs coast walk N.
Good camping by fresh water on the rising ground to the N, above the lochan exit stream.
Didn't stay anywhere near the Bothy Cottage. I don't spook easily, but by gum that place gave me the Creeps passing ½ a mile away 😳
Nick McBain — Google review
No wonder Sandwood Bay is considered to be the most beautiful beach in UK, it's turquoise clear waters and white sands will make you wanna stay for eternity in that place. Easy 4 1/2 miles walk from the Blairmore car park, it will lead you to your destination without any challenges. Last year I did the walk twice, once in May and other in October, have to say that in May I had a spectacular sunny and warm day, I recommend doing it before summer when the midges are still asleep. October was ok, a bit rainy and cold but worth it as well. Enjoy the experience!!! And get ready to shoot a million pictures!!😝
D.Conon — Google review
I cycled up the path which I think is around 8 miles, really technical and good fun with beautiful scenery and I turned up there on a hot day and had a beautiful golden sandy beach all to myself, a real treasure on a hot day.
Andrew Nichols — Google review
Just gorgeous! After a week with family in Scotland back in may 2016, me and my husband decided to make the trip up and see this beautiful place, we walked from the small car park with all of our backpacking gear, it’s quite a hike but so worth it! We spent one night here and it was bliss, not another soul in sight. Will definitely be back.
Rachel Norris — Google review
Absolutely 90 min walk at a normal pace. Fairly flat walk until you get to the bay but worth it when you get there. Maybe a handful of other people there when we arrived, no one when we left. But the 90 minute walk back felt longer!

We parked for the night in lower parking area, very quiet considering near beneath bridge. Fabulous views. And woke to see this beauty staring at us. WOW! Touring in motorhome doing NC500.
vanessa Bishop — Google review
There's parking both sides of the bridge. Views are better on the side heading towards Kylestrome. That said there are public toilets if you need them at the other car park.
The lochs in both directions are beautiful and there's a pathway so you can walk safely across the bridge if you wish.
We saw seals in the area and took some lovely photos. A definite stop off point if in the area.

Amazing views! Would definitely recommend stopping in the nearby parking spot. You can even get a bite to eat from the food van.

It's a bridge, it even 'skews'! It's a nice area to stop, stretch, walk around a bit and take some pics. We saw some tugboats hauling some larger ships! It is a beautiful area ❤️

Amazing views up and down the loch, a perfect place to stop and look around whether you’re driving the NC500 or just passing through the area.

What a magnificent peice of engineering. A straight bridge would have done but no, there boring, let's build one with a curve in it.
Nick Bennett — Google review
It’s just a bridge, but it’s also set in some of the most amazing scenery you’ll see.
There is parking at both ends and you can walk across. Well worth a stop to stretch or rest your legs
Dougal Matthews — Google review
Striking modern bridge in beautiful countryside. Lovely views across the sea loch to the hills from the car park. Large parking area just off the main road.

Stayed the night in my Motorhome in the larger of the two carparks this bridge has. Very photogenic bridge.
Jon Muncaster — Google review
A very impressive bridge with spectacular views looking both from it and down onto it too. We stayed in the lay-by with a number of others for the night. No facilities but lovely level ground just away from the road. A definite stop if passing again.
Downside - No mobile if you need to do anything for work.

The Kylesku Bridge was opened in 1984 before that there was a small car ferry from Kylesku to Kylestrome. These days it is part of the ever popular NC500. You can park either north or south of the bridge and then walk across to enjoy the views. The Bridge is an elegant piece of modern engineering as it sweeps across the narrows.
Allan MacIver — Google review
I just love this bridge. I happened to at this location as one of my pit stops during my NC 500 Route. I stopped be a nearby layby facing the bridge. It was a perfect place for me to have my lunch as well as there was a food truck within the layby. The weather was good and there are many other people that have park their vehicles. I took a few drone shots and it was majestic. I would definitely recommend you to stop here if you are doing the NC 500
Shane — Google review
We visited as part of our NC500 trip in our VW campervan.
The Kylesku Bridge, made famous for its appearance on Top Gear, spans a stunning stretch of water and offers a picturesque spot to capture some incredible photos.
Tip: park in the large carpark right by the bridge, rather than the viewpoint further up the road. There is plenty more space plus easier access to the bridge.
There are no toilet facilities, however there was a small catering van serving coffee, tea and other warm food options.
Roam with Ross — Google review
Phenomenal, … I know it’s only a bridge but …. when we went over ( or across…. whatever ) it was an absolutely amazing fabulous day and again I’ll say it “ yes I know it was only a bridge but combined with the NC 500 it becomes an experience “ … Yes, traveling over the Kylesku Bridge is an experience on the North Coast 500. The bridge is a beautiful and iconic piece of Scottish engineering that spans the Loch a' Chàirn Bhàin in Sutherland. It is a popular tourist destination and is photographed by not only us, but most visitors to the area.
The bridge is a popular spot for fishing, swimming, and boating. There are also several walking trails in the area that offer stunning views of the bridge and the surrounding countryside.
If you are planning a trip to the North Coast 500, I highly recommend taking a drive over the Kylesku Bridge. It is an experience that you will not forget. I’m not saying “go there” just for the bridge ( that would be silly ) but if you are thinking about travelling the NC 500 don’t just drive over it, take your time and stop off for a moment.
Taistealaiche — Google review
Another great spot to stop in the highlands of Scotland for a photo and to stretch your legs. You can walk the entire bridge, although if you have fear of heights, you may want to skip it and stay on the side. Bonus: if you have a drone wonderful place to get shots especially if someone like me is brave enough to go out on the bridge. Whether it’s overcast or sunny this is a really nice spot and I’m glad that we paused here for photos.
C Lynn — Google review
MUST VISIT for NC500 drivers and visitors. Stop off in large car park for burn outs, drone shots and photos for the tourist. It's a bridge yes but the roads/scenery and location travelling is simple outstanding. A 100% must do when travelling Scotland in car / camper or motorbike.

Ardvreck Castle, situated by the waterfront, is a historic ruin dating back to around 1490 CE. The castle remains are easily accessible from two parking bays along the road and appear to be well-maintained despite their age. This location serves as an ideal spot for taking short walks and capturing picturesque photos of the surrounding scenery. Additionally, visitors can enjoy nearby waterfalls that are conveniently within reach.
Easy to find as you go along the road, parking in two bays for access. Seems to be well maintained (for it being a ruin!). Nice place to stop off for a short walk and picture. The falls opposite are lovely too and again super easy to get to!

Beautiful castle. Lots of parking. Small trail. Loch level quite high but manage to walk over to the castle. Water did just top wellies.

Lovely little ruins to visit.

Big sign stated no camping and no dog fouling.

Do add this location in your itinerary. If you are doing the NC 500 Route. The castle is a very beautiful, with a calm and scenic ambience. You will find another ruin nearby as well. There is no official parking lot to visit this place, but you can find few lay-by nearby in order for you to park your vehicle. Having said that there is no accessibility for those that has disability. There is no entrance fee to visit the place. The castle itself is surrounded by beautiful lake. It’s a great place for you to take a few drone shots and pictures. We were there during the sunny day and we walk over the grass field and it was a bit muddy so just in case if you wanna visit this please please where are comparable footwear or something that has anti-water repellent, shoes like wellies.

Beautiful little spot. There is limited parking spaces. Lots of really great information boards. Nice little walk out to the castle. Be careful if it's been wet it can be muddy under foot.
Noctaluca — Google review
An absolute must stop with 3 attractions in one location. These are the ruins of an old castle with a very violent history, well detailed on the signs at the car park. There are 4 different vista pullouts surrounding the castle, but the main car park is directly in front of the castle. A short walk allows you to get up close and personal with this picturesque ruin within a stunning setting. Free entry.

Very little left of the castle but the info board at the car park gives a good insight to what was there and nearby
Billy McLennan — Google review
Free access. The walk to the castle was about 10 minutes from the parking though easy trails. You can also walk to the waterfall and to the other ruins without having to move the car again. We went towards the late afternoon so it was almost empty.
Note that there is a huge dip at the parking entrance. We saw many cars scratching their bottom (ours included), so watch out.

Great castle and house ruins, perfect for a picnic spot. Easy parking, but a short walk to the actual castle, no come prepared, especially when the loch is high, when you may need waterproof shoes to get across. It's definitely worth a visit. You can feel the history behind it. Also had great views of the mountains behind.

Arvreck Castle and Calda House did not disappoint. They are so unique and you are able to walk right up to them carefully of course as not to disturb. Looking at the way they were built was so cool.
I enjoyed goosebumps the entire time while by the castle...and was in awe and a bit sad.
Definitely worth a stop!💙

so cool. I'm enjoying the ruined castles way more than the restored ones.
this looks so desolate and remote, and if you. like the game Skyrim, it's like you're walking up to one of the little keeps that will invariably have brigands hiding out in it

Wow! An 8k round walk to see the Bone Caves, worth every step 👣 A decent size car park, keep your eyes peeled, the small sign is easy to miss. I would recommend walking shoes 👞 As you would expect the terrain is uneven, a beautiful walk past waterfalls, and the river, leads to the stunning mountain ⛰️ scenery. A steep climb to the Caves but manageable 🚶♀️We were alone and felt like the top of the world!
Stella O'Leary — Google review
Scotland is home to many beautiful and unique caves, each with their own unique features and history. Each cave is unique and offers a different experience, but all of them are great places to visit to explore the underground world and learn about Scotland's natural and cultural heritage. To reach caves you need a good hiking boots and to be prepared for a walk from the parking, around 45min. However, it's worth it. Stunning views around.
Piotr Czajka — Google review
Blink and you miss the entrance as it’s not signposted. Put in the postcode and it takes you to the car park, it is labelled as a coffee to take away but that’s closed. Many people state this is an easy walk, it’s NOT is an intermediate and is a graduated climb until you get to the base and from then on you need to be a mountain goat. It is well worth the walk it took us about an hour to get to, it is very rocky with a great little waterfall on route. As I said well worth it.
The Food Soldier — Google review
Very picturesque. Took an hour each way from car park. The terrain is very rocky and slippy when it has just rained. Would not recommend for the elderly, young and/or inexperienced to be honest. The pathway closer to Bone Cave were very thin and a sheer drop down so not for the faint-hearted. So many midges. However there was a river that started off as a spring which was very interesting.
C Man — Google review
Definitely must visit! The trekking route to me was moderate: the most difficulty was the route was not flat, but there was no steep up and down.
The scenery on the route was stunning, I did really enjoyed it.

The worst place we have ever visit. We where coming up from the waterfall. We visit this place at September and I do not recommend! The walkway start disapering after while because of rain. We where walking and after hour we even did not get close to it. After hour walk you have to hike up a steep hill and it is just hole in the mountine. Our shoes where ruined and wet. The worst walk ever!#nc500
Martina (Hami) — Google review
These caves are wickedly cool and well worth the long but lovely walk along the river. However the path near the end is steep, narrow, and comes with a rather sheer drop. If you are there on a frightfully windy day, as I was, be extra cautious. Coming around the shoulder of the mountain and into the wind, I very nearly took the short (and painful) way down. Keep a close eye on any littles you have with you.
H. M. Rogers — Google review
Very nice walk. At the end quite steep to get to the caves. Wear good shoes, besides, I would only go to the very top if you are free from giddiness.
It has NO toilets at the parking lot. Go to the toilet before the walk and do not use the caves as a toilet!!!

Stunning. From the top (where you park and start off), there's a stream that leads to a giant waterfall (hole in the ground)! Then you take the stairs down, where it leads you into the caverns. The boat tour portion was closed when we visited, but you can still walk inside and view the waterfall from there. After exploring the caves, you can walk further towards the water. It started hailing (literally out of nowhere) and there is a giant rock that we and another couple took shelter! It's no joke when they say you can experience all seasons in a day - we totally have.

You'll drive right past Smoo Cave when you drive the NC500 from Thurso to Durness. It is a free attraction, including free car parking, and a easy "must do" as you pass. Allow up to an hour.
Go down the steps to the left, and you'll see the cave (at sea level) on your right as you do so. Follow your nose, and you'll come to the cave. Entry is free (though there are some operators offering a tour when the weather/tidal conditions allow). Walk along the boardwalk to see the waterfall inside the cave (see my photograph).
As you leave, go up the stairs the other side (ultimately, this will loop you back to the car park). If you have time, walk along the path at the top here to see spectacular coast/sea views (see my photographs).

Super cool place 🐻🤩 Possible to visit the cave all day round. You even could walk above it and look down 🐾👀 quite a lot of stairs, but well worth the effort 💪😊 the views were amazing from the cliffs around, the powerful water, the lightening in the cave, all the wooden stairs… I was so excited climbing around. I even could see the bottom in the cave through the clear water 🙉
Visited around 6pm and almost no one there.
Cellphone service excellent 😊👍

Mixed feelings about this place! We were looking forward to seeing the waterfall only to find it had stopped due to the warm weather.
From all the places we visited on the NC500 this was the one place that felt A, very touristy and B, was littered 😞
My husband and I walked along the beach only to find it littered with plastic bottle lids, food wrappers and other pieces of plastic. The litter was definitely from visitors and not from being washed up.
I just think if you are advertising an attraction and charging people for tours of the caves etc, at least respect the area and keep it tidy.

Interesting cave , lots of history. We done the short boat tour for £10 each which was well worth it to get more info about the cave and the ongoing mission to dog into the 4th chamber which has been started 16 years ago. Ps they are looking for volunteers to help!

This was breathtaking. We popped here on a bit of a tour of the North Coast of Scotland, and I can say we were not disappointed.
The cave is truly awesome, inspiring, and we worth the drive. There are two ways down to the cave. One is more accessible than the other, but it is well worth the walk down.
The cave is free to explore, but if you want to go a little deeper, there is a boat tour into a deeper part. The tour takes about 30 minutes and is very entertaining and interesting, also pretty reasonable. My kids loved it, although they wished it could be a lot longer and that they could go deeper.
If you are going to do the tour wear wellies or waterproof shoes. It is very wet. We had come prepared and were glad we did.
Would heartily recommend this.

Park in the carpark and head down the steps to an amazing jurassic world. We found smoo cave brilliant was just disappointed that the boat tour or guide service wasn't available on our visit due to heavy rain fall. However the water fall within the cave was quite spectacular. The spray and air pressure was amazing. Once you come back out head up the steps on the right hand side and follow the path to some spectacular views. When you reach the road cross over the road and you will find the river that feeds the water fall with a wooden bridge crossing. Hope this helps anyone.

Amazing place, I didn't do the boat tour (10 pounds) and I believe to be breathtaking.

The cave is right next to a public parking spot, just coupple minutes down stairs. The dome of the cave is freely accessible 24/7.
If you fancy a walk, going on top of the cliffs on either side of the cave in direction to the sea is lovely

Nice caves, small walk, scenic coast view. You can take a walking and boat tours, but need to wait as they are understaffed.

For the second year running, it was closed, suffice to say we were disappointed, But found on this visit that due to the recent rains showed another natural wonder, they have when it rains, the flood of water cascading through is amazing, so I'll be back again next year.

Such an awesome place ... nature is amazing. There were tours (involving a wee boat ride), but it's possible to enjoy the caves without joining these. It's a lovely walk down to the wee bay and to the cave, but it involves lots of steps down and up. There is a lovely walk to the edge of the earth, well the edge of Scotland! An amazing experience. Dogs welcome (though not on the boat)
Jo Craig — Google review
Great place to visit. We never went on the extended tour which went further into the cave but what we did see what amazing. Well worth the visit. Highly recommend.
Lisa Jeffrey — Google review
A must-do! Stunning views overlooking the bay, and the cave is spectacular. It is quite a steep walk down/back up (but well made steps and handrail), but it is well worth it. The cave/boat tour is great - very informative and the tour guide has a good sense of humour. You've got to climb down a ladder into the boat which might not be suitable for anyone with balance or mobility issues. Good footwear is needed as although you don't walk far in the cave, it is slippery.
It's £10pp and cash only.

Truly amazing to see in person. Went with my wife and two boys (2&4) the walk down was easy enough and the kids were able to manage it back up. Would highly recommend on your trip round nc500

A great walk down to a large cave. A bit of history where a Clan McLeod Assassin killed 19 people in the clan days.
Tour with a hard hat for £10. Did not take that offer.
A stepped walk down one side and up the other. Views are stunning, and we had a great sunny day for the experience.

Waterfall with close-up views from a suspension bridge, known for leaping salmon in late summer.
Easy walk. Unfortunately the bridge has been closed and there is a barrier to prevent the route. Still lovely view of the waterfall and through the woodland. Very peaceful upriver of the falls. Lovely to see the wee rainbows in the mist from the falls
Jenny Laurie — Google review
Well worth a visit especially after a good amount of rainfall. You can follow two trails of which the yellow trail is the easiest for access but be warned the Riverside trail has roots which can be slippy when wet and some fairly rough terrain. The suspension bridge is excellent for viewing the falls.
Matt Houldcroft — Google review
A beautiful forest which leads to an amazing waterfall. About a 10 min walk to the waterfalls, with a great view from the suspension bridge. A few cars in the car park, but did not feel beautiful. I'm not the fittest person, but I managed the walk which was sloped.
Highly recommend a visit and remember to take your camera/camera phone
Rachel Lambert — Google review
Nice forest walk to falls, stunning after rainfall, walk continues past falls along the river, the path is higher so views of the river are constant. Takes approx 15 minutes to reach falls from car park, £2 yo park, there are toilets.
Beverley Price — Google review
Beautiful, easy, short walk to the falls. The yellow trail which takes you straight to the falls is probably, all in, half a mile at most, from the car park to the overlook.
Currently the bridge is not open to cross so that’s a shame, however, we timed it perfectly and the yellows and golds of the changing pines, along with the moss and abundance of textures was absolutely stunning. The fallen pine needles lined the forest floor like a carpet of gold. It was incredible.
Aidan Crombie — Google review
Lovely place for a walk with a couple of options to go as long as you prefer. There are great views of the falls, especially from the slightly too bouncy suspension bridge. The blue walk follows woodland and riverside paths and is a great way to spend an hour.
Garry Middleton — Google review
The walk from the carpark to the falls is easy, on a wide path with only a few inclines and should be manageable for most, even those in a wheelchair. The suspension bridge provides additional views of the falls and they are stunning after some rain. Well worth a visit.
Rene de Koning — Google review
Easy walking paths all around and easy to get parked. Toilets and picnic bench are close to the car park. Bridge at the time of visiting was closed. Still good views of the falls.

What a stunning place and a fabulous walk along the Riverside. Its a great view of the mountains in between the trees. The waterfall itself is amazing too. Highly recommend for some breathtaking scenery

Excellent small woodland walk with the falls. Free parking and free toilets. Fish ladder looks interesting, board recommends July to September to see the salmon leaping upstream.

An absolutely stunning area with different trails for different people! The walk down to the bridge and falls was amazing! Had kids as young as 3 and adults as old as 74 walk to the falls. So much fun with so many beautiful things to look at and take in, from the falls to the trails and the forest surrounding it was great!

A magnificent waterfall only about a 10 minute forest walk from the free parking lot nearby. The path towards the waterfall is quite steep at times, but for those (not me) who dislike to hike it’s a quick journey to a beautiful view. There’s a lovely pedestrian bridge crossing it as well so you can view the waterfall from different angles.

Felt very happy and lucky to see the leaping Salmon here. This little guy was trying for at least 30 minutes taking a 5-10 minute break in between so managed to catch it a few times. It was a beautiful day and a short walk from car park to the bridge, so highly recommend!

It's a lovely place to go for a small walk to get to the waterfall and if your luck I was see salmon swimming up. Parking is free and a nice day out spot for the day.

Nice convenient hike thru the forest and to the falls with the suspension bridge. For an easy hike in and out, take the path by the car park. Or after you visit the falls, you continue on the path that is down river, you will have uphill hike that is beautiful too. You will come out to the car park near the toilets.

A beautiful place for a lovely walk through the pine forests to enjoy the breathtaking water falls. The air feels so pure! We visited mid August and seeing the salmon jumping up the river at the falls was truly a very special sight to see. Brilliant viewing points along the river. This is a stunning place of outstanding natural beauty. I hope it continues to be respected and treasured by all who are lucky enough to visit 🙏 ❤️

It is not currently possible to sample the local spring water and by the looks of it, visitors won't be able to sample it for a long time. It was a big disappointment as it was the main reason we visited the place.
There is an exhibition on the history of the Pump Room and Strathpeffer's Spa in general. There is a short introductory video as well.

Guided tours & whisky tastings at a modernized 19th-century distillery in a rural Highland setting.
If you're thinking about doing a whiskey tasting while in Inverness make sure it's this one. We had an amazing time. We had a bit of an issue with the directions from the email and ended up missing our reservation time but we spoke with Lewis who was beyond helpful and rescheduled us to a later time. Peter was our tour guide he was beyond amazing and so knowledgeable about everything that the group asked. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.
Camika Graham-Rait — Google review
We so enjoyed our visit to Singleton! The facilities are gorgeous and they have a great selection in their store, comfortable seating, and a wide selection at the bar, including locally made baked goods. We were fortunate enough to get a spot on a tour without booking ahead, and our guide Keith was funny and informative. It was very interesting to see the facilities and we really enjoyed the tasting. I’m not a big scotch or whiskey drinker, but Keith had great tips on how to enjoy the drink properly and how to recognize the different flavours. Highly recommend stopping in here.

Not sure if I was a graphic designer or a whisky enjoyed at this experience. These bottle labels illustrations are looking so nice, it's gonna make me forfetthe taste of the whisky.
But in all seriousness, it was a great tour and the whisky they let us try was nice. The Celebration bottle they let us try was my favorite of the 3, but we just bought the 12 year. I ain't got an extra $160 for a super nice bottle. Yet.

Wonderful distillery with a ultra modern visitor centre with a retro feel. Tour was brilliant. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable on all things whisky! Got to try a dram or two. They even allowed us a taste of another whisky we were looking to purchase. Team couldn't do enough for you. Thank you for an excellent morning

What a great experience. The tour was very in depth and educational. Our tour guide answered all questions we could throw at him. The gift shop was nice. The distillery exclusive scotch was by far my favorite. The smells in the distillery were 10/10. I could stay there all day. They also have a new visitor center they are building that will be open roughly in April 2022.

What an amazing tour. Our guide was amazing and very knowledgeable. It was a very inside the factor tour and was really good. Getting to see inside the big containers at the whisky just sitting their and going into the Duty Free Warehouses. It was good to have posters saying where in the process we were, and jars of stuff which could visually represent what we were smelling. We were allowed to take pictures, just not in two areas which was fair enough. The tasting at the end was great, with driver packs for those who couldn’t taste the whisky due to the strict alcohol blood levels in Scotland, and for those two young to drink alcohol, they gave a nice glass of apple juice. The gift shop is amazing, with a £28000 bottle of whisky on display, and the cocktail bar stunning. It is a lovely place, and would highly recommend!

We had a very good time, with guide Lauren leading us through the distillery. She is a very calm and competent guide, who talks very clearly and has great expressions to support her story.
The features to see the different components per stage of the process was really great as well. We took our time and learned a lot.
The distillery (and the bar+toilets) were very neat, cosy and clean. With a great atmosphere and friendly staff.
The selection of three tastes and the explanation of how to drink whisky was really great too. With a sweet thoughtful add-on.
Unfortunately, with the tour of 15.30h we did not have the longest amount of time to enjoy our whisky tasting. So, in the last ten/fifteen minutes we suddenly had to rush. That was a bit of a shame. We couldn't really enjoy + get anything else we would like to buy or eat.
But, that's just a detail of the further marvelous tour.
We liked this distillery better than the Ben Nevis! They didn't have any advice in the tasting, it was more of a bar. This one is more modern. We also went to the Talisker one (didn't do a tour), which was similarly clean and neat. So definitely can recommend that one too, if you like peaty

Had Beardy Brian as a tour guide and he was enthusiastic and really cared about the craft. As someone who had zero prior knowledge, I came out if it knowing the process and being more appreciative of the drink itself. Followed up by a cheese board and a chat with the friendly bar staff, just wish I could stay in the area longer as they are doing a live music night soon!

Fantastic distillery tour. Our guide Eilidh was very friendly and knowledgeable, the whisky was also delicious. Highly recommend a tour.

Our guide, David, was a star. His chat through the history of the distillery and the whisky process was pitched at exactly the right level. The tasting was great and we came away with a little gift. The driver in our group could also take her tasting samples away in little bottles. Plus we got a 10% discount in the on site shop. All in all a great experience and a nice break between walking and sightseeing.

The tour was informative for someone with absolutely no knowledge of whisky such as myself. We were walked through the entire production process from malt/barley harvesting through to fermentation, distillation and ageing. Best of all, we got to taste three different whisky at the end of the tour. Our guide Hazel was both knowledgeable and entertaining. Now I understand why Scotch Whisky is so popular the world over. Highly recommended.

Incredible tour, one of my favourite yet. Loved the whole aesthetic of the building and it was fascinating to see their stills and find out interesting information such as what they do with Talisker etc. I really recommend this tour and bring your spends because the retail area is incredible with some amazing options including distillery exclusives or bottle your own. I purchased a 12 and 18 dufftown and glen ord, both phenomenal.

My favourite distillery to visit (although I don't actually drink whisky). The tour here is great, with great guides and my tour groups always give great feedback about their visit. I love the cafe area which is just such a lovely space to be in. There are some great cakes and platters available as well as whisky tastings from the bar. You can fill your water bottles here and the bathrooms are lovely too. It's also got a lovely shop.

A wonderful distillery with a great tour featuring their process of slow cask Scottish whiskey. With a fun and informative whiskey tasting at the end of the tour you will come away with an even greater appreciation of the Singleton process. As well the cafe area is very cozy and a gift shop stocked with a wide selection of whiskey and related gifts.

Took a tour with Kyle! Was very knowledgeable had an answer to all our questions and made it a fun experience. I love drinking scotch but didn’t know much about the process. It was really fun to learn about it! Definitely recommend for scotch lovers! You can even bottle and engrave your own whisky.

We did the warehouse and tasting tour spontaneously and were extremely happy with it. They explain the entire process and let you have various tastes of whiskey and a cocktail made out of it. The bar design is just fantastic and everyone is very friendly!

Thank you Natalie for conducting a fantastic tour. My wife and I have attended tours at other distilleries but agree that this was the best by far. Natalie’s in-depth knowledge of the process combined with her friendly manner and clear descriptions left us with a much better understanding of the art of whiskey-making than from visits to other facilities. And the tasting experience was, of course, most excellent. Thanks also to Brian C. who hosted us at Muir of Ord. Cheers!
The Beauly Priory is a serene site located in Beauly, characterized by forested ruins of a medieval church and cemetery founded by an obscure group of monks in 1230. The priory features exquisite Scottish medieval architecture, and the grounds are meticulously maintained with informative signage welcoming visitors. Entry to this hidden gem is free, making it a great place for anyone interested in exploring Scotland's rich history. Additionally, visitors may be lucky enough to encounter the resident graveyard cat during their visit.
The Beauly Priory is beyond beautiful, would highly recommend folk come here to visit. If you’re lucky you may even be blessed with a visit from the graveyard cat!

Nice ruined building, easily accessible, easy to go around. However, it's not a place to look out for specifically. Only if it's on your way somewhere else.

It is no surpise that this place is both beautiful and peaceful. After all, the Priory's name is said to come from its picturesque riverside setting. Beau Lieu means 'beautiful place' in French which Mary Queen of Scots endorsed during a visit in 1564.

This place is just amazingly beautiful. I did not know how much of a mood this old ancient buildings can give you , until I visited this place . There is so much secrets here ! And hidden history we might never know about . This church is in amazing shape considering it was build around 1200sh . What is more interesting is that here you can find graves across the centuries . Some inscriptions are still in Latin , others are old English , some quite recent like 1800 -1900 . But what is the most incredible is that some graves carry symbols of skull and bones ... I wish I knew who was buried under this grave plates ?!!! If as chronicles say that it was built around 1240 by Nobel man why this graves with skull and bones exist there at all ? and what this symbols really mean ? Oh! You have to see this place people !!!

Looks like it would be nice to wander and explore, but it's temporarily closed for repairs. The entire prior is covered in scaffolding, and a sign is on the entrance gate.
I couldn't read the whole thing but there was another small sign inside that said something about restoring/repairing the old headstones, too. I love that, as it ensures they'll last and the stories will live on.

A beautiful, but small ruin, well worth a look. Shame about the parking situation (satnav takes you to wrong place, so just follow the main road until you see it!). No facilities, but public toulet right next to it.

Lots of history about this place but nothing overly special. Mary, Queen of Scots visited as did Oliver Cromwell's army. 15th century tomb - well, it's certainly incredible to have survived the years but there's no more than a name on the plaque so with no historical context it's just another dead guy.
Still, lovely setting in a Beautiful Place

Atmospheric location in lovely countryside, once you get past the carpark and closed visitors centre. Can get a bit busy if a bus tour stops by. Fairly easy to get to and find, and there are other walks in the area to get to some of the more remote places.

The waterfall is lovely! Sadly we didn’t see any salmon. There are portaloos behind the cafe which are okay. The cafe and toilets are closed unfortunately. Lots of parking. Steep-ish walk down to the falls so may be harder in wet weather or if you have mobility issues.

Lovely spot to stop off and appreciate the beautiful and quaint nature. There is a big car park, a visitor centre and toilets available (although they were closed when I was there). The viewing platform for the waterfalls and salmon leaping is only a 5 mins walk from the carpark and easily accessible. I didn't have the luck to see any salmon leaping but I enjoyed spending the time appreciating the surrounding spring foliage and listening to the impressive waterfalls. There are also a few short walks from the visitor centre to explore the nature around the waterfalls. I went there as part of the North Coast 500 car trip. If you are travelling from Inverness, the drive and view over Loch Shin is amazing. Highly recommended.

This place is bloody stunning and amazing for taking photos. The trail down to the waterfall is wheelchair accessible which, while it didn't effect me in anyway, is quite important for some. Couldn't see any salmon on my trip but they have a cute little piece of art with them near the waterfall. Can't say the quality of the cafe/visitor centre since we didn't go in. I wouldn't say I'd come again unless it was for more photos, but this place isn't one of those things were that would be a bad thing. Would recommend for the sights and would especially recommend to photographers.

Fantastic place to go & watch the salmon leaping on their way back to the spawning ground. Breathtaking to be so close to nature. This is an excellent place we were glad it was open. It is an information centre with a small shop which is well stocked. There is also a cafe and toilet facilities. The lady on duty was very chatty. One other thing is the story of Lairg which was very interesting to read and learn about. We've been coming here for years, such a beautiful spot and a great walk perfect length for littles. Dog friendly too. The path is well maintained and there's lots to see. The first part of the wander is through the woods and up the Loch then you go out into the open and get some amazing views. It is such a lovely walk!

Interesting place to visit in Lairg. We were recommended to go by our campsite host, as there is a new exhibition about a recent discovery of a asteroid striking the area (1200 million years ago). Local children have made some lovely posters, that can be seen on the path to the centre entrance. The display inside is very informative and describes how the crater was found and how it was formed. We also read the local history of how Lairg was founded and developed. There's plenty to see and do especially for youngsters, both inside and out and admission is free.

This was a great station for both arrival and departure, with well-sized platforms for the trains! Station canopy is built from beautiful glass architecture, area not underneath is lit well by the sun and many platforms are available for the highland capital. Departure boards are up to date and even though the staff were nice, they were not organized since only a few other people in queue and they could not be ready for me to buy a plusbus after nearly 10 minutes.

The capital of the highlands train station is so overdue a decent clean an upgrade along with other stations in Scotland, it’s easily forgotten about being so far north but this station is a frequent and busy one.
WH Smith holding strong as they do in every station and a Costa coffee is the only thing that keeps it from looking like a 1990s depressing building,
The ticket gate positions are not fit for purpose as every train I seen being offloaded or onboarded has a massive cluster of people and and having just 1 or 2 railways staff checking tickets and looking after the gates just isn’t enough,

Copes badly with crowds in the summer due to the lack of seating, there's a 50p charge to use the tiny and not particularly well maintained toilets, and the place generally looks a bit "past it." Would help if it was integrated with the bus station too. Get the bulldozers in and give Inverness a high-quality public transport facility!
John Grosvenor — Google review
I recently travelled by train from Inverness to B'ham. I had not travelled this way for 40 years so was unfamiliar with the current systems and not familiar with the app. I asked for assistance from 4 members of staff and none were helpful. However I finally got some decent help from a young lad who was not staff and he showed me how to use the app and get on to the platform. Also, you have to pay 50p to use the toilet which is disgraceful considering I had already paid £90+ for my ticket. When I had to change at Perth, there were no staff to be seen, it was absolutely deserted. I wad unsure which platform I had to go on as the app said number 3 platform and there were two number 3 platforms. I noticed a light on in one of the offices and there was a middle aged man on a computer and I got a clear for f.... sake what attitude after tapping on the window to ask for advice. After exchangeing a few words on how to speak to the public, he eventually pointed to which platform I was supposed to be on. I eventually got to B'ham and I did not travel back on the train because of my experience. The advertisements are totally false as the staff, what there is, are totally arrogant and unhelpful and have no respect for the public they are supposed to serve. I will never travel, or recommend anyone, to travel by train again.

I'm not a big fan of this station. The station looks run down and worst of all they charge for the toilets. I had to hold it in while waiting for my train. Not pleasant. The member of staff I meet at ticket desk was not friendly or accomidating. Overall very poor experiences.
Max Hammet-Millay — Google review
Possibly the worst city train station in the UK.
Basic amenities you'd expect to be open until the last train are closed. Considering very few trains in and out of Inverness have a cafe service these days there's no where to get a coffee or tea in the station and the toilets close ridiculously early so you'd better hope the ones on your train are functional.
Jen Smith — Google review
Using the toilets costs 50p and a staff member gives change from a little office when you knock on the door. Like the Monty Python show. Having to pay shows a meanness of spirit that you wouldn’t normally expect in Scotland
mazzda con — Google review
It was ok. Nothing special. Toilets could be cleaner. Train left punctual.
Reto Keller — Google review
Just a normal train station, not very pretty or particularly clean and the toilets cost money (20p). The staff are happy and friendly. When we went, our train was on time and we found the station fine. We got lost on the way from the station to the bus stop though and missed the bus. That's because the signs to the bus station are misleading. Better ask a member of staff or trust Maps to navigate.

The best distillery tour we've done to date! A small and friendly distillery, a great guide in Angus, and an added bonus of it being a working distillery everyday.
Sarah Gibbon — Google review
What an excellent experience touring with Liam was. The tour was even paced, educational, informative and chock full of history. Not only did we learn about the culture and history of whiskey making, we got see first hand the production. The tour was capped with an excellent tasting of a nice range of the Balblair selections and a souvenir. Not half bad for the price.

This is how you do distillery tours! Absolutely one of the best tours in Scotland. Very informative and comprehensive tour with lots of small details how they make their whisky.
Tasting contained 4 samples and a complimentary glass to take with you. For 22.50£ this tour is a steal!
Thank you to Donna for the tour.
I can't recommend this place enough.
Timo Oehlandt — Google review
Had a fantastic tour at Balblair, the distillery is in a great little spot - Angus was a fantastic guide, was extremely accommodating and we left very happy, plus the Whisky is top notch. Can't go wrong coming here.
William Luckwell — Google review
We booked a tour of the distillery, and we had such a fantastic time. Angus was our guide and you could tell he was so passionate and knowledgeable, with some great facts and hilarious stories. We hadn’t heard of Balbair before, and booked it as we wanted to tour a less known distillery and we’re so pleased we did. I’d definitely recommend it as an experience when visiting Scotland.
Marie Brown — Google review
The best distillery your we have done so far because Angus is so passionate and animated. The facilities are beautiful with the heft of history behind them. Best of all, they make good whisky! They are also thoughtful enough that they have small takeaway bottles so that the driver needn't miss out.
Right now they are discounting the tour because the stills aren't accessible due to refurbishment. Most tourists might not even notice so it's really nice that they care enough to make concessions.
Karl Leibensperger — Google review
Even if you're not a huge whisky fan, I'd fully recommend this tour. Angus was our guide and he shared his passion for the traditions Balbair upholds.
John Pilkington — Google review
If I could I would rate the tour with more than 5 stars. So, we booked a tour online for 20 pounds pro Person. We learned about the history of the brewery and about process of brewing whiskey. In the end we were offered each a brand new glass of whiskey as a present and we got a taste of Balblair 12 and 18 years old. We asked and we got to try for free Balblair 15 years old and one more special edition. Considering all this we were extremely pleased at the end.
Vlad Groke — Google review
Very authentic distillery. We loved the tour and the tasting.
I've done 20+ distillery visits and some give you more appreciation for the distillery. Balblair is one of those.
Erwin Coreynen — Google review
Great tour with Simon. Even with works going on it was still a brilliant tour. Great opportunity to take home tasting samples if you cannot drink whilst on site
James Lodge — Google review
We started our tour by watching a video about the Belblair Distillery. The key message was that they like to "take their time" with the making of their whiskey. What might sound like a slick marketing massage was then however excellently translated into real life by our guide Helen. Helen provided a wealth of information about the whiskey making process at Belblair, answered all questions and at the end guided us through a delightful tasting session. Helen identified our designated driver and he received his tasting samples in small jars to take home, as did a non-drinker in our small group of four... how good is that?!?
We could not have wished for a better distillery tour and this was a highlight of our visit to Scotland.
Andreas Stephens — Google review
The best distillery tour I have been on. I have not been on that many, but all the same this felt like an especially good experience. Very informative, friendly and welcoming. A lot of history to the place, told well initially via brief professional video presentation then in person by knowledgeable and warm guides. The buildings are very characterful. Thursday seemed to be a good day to visit, though I think you will not regret a visit on any day. Shop is well laid out and comparatively good value. Balblair came well recommended to us by those we met in Inverness and Strathpeffer, and we happily pass on that recommendation.

We enjoyed our tour and tasting. It was amazing to walk through the facilities and hear the history of Balblair and their unique approach. The whiskey was pretty tasty as well!

What an experience. I was gifted a 2 ball at Christmas and recently played here. Honestly felt like we were treated like pros, welcomed the minute we arrived, got to use practice area just as you see the pros then we were issued a yardage book and card with pin placements, also got free tees and pitch mark tool. The course itself was stunning. Immaculate tees, fairway and greens. The views of the Moray firth a stunning. I cannot recommend a visit here highly enough. I WILL be back. Wonderful experience and day.

Best golf course I've ever played!
The staff in the pro shop, bar area and starters hut were fantastic.
We had issues with bad weather travelling from Glasgow but the staff were very accommodating. We felt very welcome and everyone was so polite. The facilities were brilliant and the course was in great condition!
I'd recommend Castle Stuart to absolutely everyone!

Outstanding. The course is a joy to play, even if my golf wasn't up to the standard. Clubhouse facilities are fantastic, food was good, staff were exceptional.
I can imagine a completely different proposition if the weather wasn't as perfect as it was yesterday, but I'd still have loved it!

This is Castle Stuart Golf Links course. Cabot bought it 2 yrs ago and started to rename it to Cabot Highlands. Anyway, we played here on Sept 2nd 2023 as part of our annual golf trip with friends.
The course was in fantastic condition. Majority of the holes are running parallel to Moray Firth waters. The front 9 are lower level, right next to water. The other are on the hill ... wind becomes a factor. We played from the Green tees (132 slope rating). Caddie experience was fantastic.
I shot 42 & 41.

Went out as a two ball, lucked out with the weather in mid May. Course was in incredible shape, open off the tee but challenging around the greens. Excellent treatment by staff, recommend the replay for those debating whether to play one or two rounds. Food was also excellent post round. Will be back, and looking forward to playing other Cabot courses.

Had the most wonderful time playing golf at Cabot highlands. Clubhouse and facilities were top notch, great short game area and the staff to match with it.
A place you would be gutted to miss playing golf.
Jules Preston — Google review
Mostly a review of the course. I’m a +6 and shot 78 at Dornoch the day before in similar wind and rain. Staff and service were good. Played in a 3-club wind. Most of the greens have too much undulation around so you are either lucky on your approach bounce to hit the green and if you land it on the green it rolls over into a bunker. Course guide boasts of being able to be stretched out to a championship 7400 yards which seems silly considering it also talked about design with error and recovery in mind. I’d skip this next time despite the course being in good shape — a lot of the holes feel over-designed. Pins on 7 and 9 were a joke. 16, 17, and 18 are kind of a weak finish. Hopefully the Doak course is better. I loved his courses at Bandon.

I hate that they’re calling it Cabot Highlands on Google now. This is actually the Castle Stuart golf course. It is a fantastic course! The scenery is beautiful, the staff are all friendly and helpful, and they have a great clubhouse with amazing views. It helped that the weather was perfect, and I played pretty well, but I just loved it here.

If you come to the Highlands you must play this course. This is how golf should be. Course is in superb condition ( well done to the staff) The location is breathtaking, almost every hole has a view of some kind. The staff were quite simply amazing, catering for all needs. Congratulations to all of the staff for making us feel special.👍

Just returned after 2 days golfing and what an amazing golf course and experience. I cannot ever recall reaching for a camera to take so many pictures of golf holes and the surrounding vista. The condition was superb and at every point of the time you spend at the club the customer service is so genuine and outstanding. We stayed in the farmhouse just a few mins walk from the course. I can only give a maximum of 5 stars although I was looking for a 6 star option. If you are thinking about golf in Scotland put this down as a MUST play and I look forward to seeing and playing the new adjacent course in the coming years.

Fantastic golfing experience from the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome. Beautiful course and the scenery is stunning.
Chanonry Point is a picturesque outcrop by the bay that offers stunning views of the surrounding area. It's a popular spot for dolphin and seal watching, as well as observing the small lighthouse. The east side of the area boasts a peaceful beach, while there are plenty of seats and tables for picnics or setting up cameras or binoculars to spot marine wildlife. However, visitors should be cautious when driving on the approach road through the golf course to avoid stray golf balls.
Spectacular views of the surrounding area and so peaceful.
A lovely beach to the east side of the area , heading back into Fortrose.
A small lighthouse is a nice focal point.
Plenty of parking.
Lots of seats and tables for a picnic or too set up your camera or binoculars to look out for dolphins or seals.
Definitely recommend
Robert Martin — Google review
If you want to see dolphins in their natural environment this is one of the best places to do so and you don't even need to go near a boat. From an hour after low tide you can see them from the beach, often within a few metres.
Ian Homewood — Google review
Amazing few days spent here on the site and a 20 min walk to the lighthouse where you can view dolphins swimming by each day/night. Such a beautiful spot. There are benches so you can sit and watch the sea while watching the dolphins. Highly recommend it’s so beautiful here.
Laura — Google review
Beautiful place, no dolphins spotted tho 🥲 we did see many otters and smaller fishes along the waters. Came at around sunset and managed to capture some wonderful moments. Plenty of parking and if cold, you can park facing the waters to dolphin spot.
Abraham Lee — Google review
Lovely spot and a very scenic drive to it. Described as one of the best places to see bottlenose dolphins and sometimes porpoises but we visited a bit too late in the year so missed out. There is parking but not much and it is pay parking.

Wow! We visited hoping to see the Dolphins 🐬 and was not disappointed. They put on an amazing display for us. We were so lucky to witness it so close to the shore too. We'll worth the drive and the views are magnificent too 👌

We saw a few dolphins that swam into the bay and they came really close to the shore. It was amazing to see all the boats and Fort Rose on the other side of the bay. Would recommend it if you're going to Inverness for the day.
Olive Murphy — Google review
Let's face it, if you're going to Chanonry Point, you're probably only going for one reason........ Dolphins!
Yes, they are there, we've seen them. As did the many other people watching, some with massive photo lenses to capture those elusive creatures.
There are lovely views all round. The skies are massive, there's a lovely beach and a nice wee lighthouse you can't go near.
There's a reasonably sized pay for car park that's only meant for cars and bikes, no motor homes. Keep that in mind. I think it was about £2 to park which you can pay with card or cash at the machines.
Martin Robertson — Google review
I did not expect to see any dolphins here but in the end we got lucky and saw many of them.
We came early in the morning.
There were many people here who were also waiting for dolphins so don’t expect to be there alone

Lovely place to visit
There is a parking charge - card taken at pay point
Lovey views on both sides of the point with a long sandy beach
Caution on the approach road as you drive through the centre of a golf course watch out for those stray golf balls

Paid parking available at the Chanonry Point with a good number of spaces available. We have come here on the off season so parking wasn't an issue. Lovely views from this location and also access to nice beach. Unfortunately we did not see any dolphins this time but still worth the visit.

Nice spot and is listed as one of best places to spot dolphins. We didn't get lucky but it's a nice beach. Not many facilities so if waiting around best to come with supplies 😁
Lewis Robinson — Google review
We saw dolphins. Loads of them. The tide was coming in. The hardest thing is the parking as so many cars come. There was a very friendly and effective chap helping people park. No toilets! Go in the town before driving down.
Fergus MacDermot — Google review
This is a lovely beach and lighthouse 20-30 mins from Inverness. Known as the viewing point for dolphins that come close to the beach looking for fish. The path to this beach itself is worth the visit although it does get quite narrow near the end.
It’s recommended that you visit this place an hour after the low tide for highest probability of a sighting.
We arrived at the beach right at the time of the low tide and were able to find parking in no time. If you come in any later, expect to wait or not find any parking at all because spaces are very limited.
While we didn’t see any dolphins the beach is very scenic and has a lot of spaces for people to relax and chill while waiting for dolphins.

This has been one a major attraction in the Highlands appearing on lots of TV shows. It is well appointed good parking facilities with great views across the Firth to Fort George . The dolphins are amazing if you see them . 40 years ago could go and see them alone as area little known on the tourist trail . Now it is usually busy but definitely worth seeing
Go at high tide better chance of them feeding them at the Spit

We have had a day to wait for our return trip. Had poor weather so decided on a drive around and was recommended by a local at our hotel to pop over. You can see porpoises and dolphins, maybe, on a good day (!)
I saw a large fish jump out of the water, so I was pleased, but we didn't wait around for too long as it was windy and rain threatening. The countryside is more arable, so different from the other places and mountains. Views are stunning

Very peaceful place to visit with small but nice parking. Place is good to have a stroll around and probably catch glimpse of Dolphins if you are lucky..
The Highlanders' Museum is a spacious and accessible attraction that provides ample space for children to play. The staff is highly accommodating and even provided a motorized scooter for an elderly visitor. This historical site offers various exhibits that revolve around the military customs of the Black Watch regiment, making it a true hidden gem. Visitors can enjoy several dining options on-site while taking in the beautiful scenic drive out of the city.
Big site which is partially open to the public, lots to see and great views out where you commonly see dolphins. Good priced cafe and plenty of displays, this is a great Musuem to visit.

A true "hidden" gem , featuring a variety of historical displays Centering around the military tradition of the black watch. My only comment would be that the museum is certainly geared towards those with an interest in the first and second world wars, with later conflicts receiving less coverage.

I love old castles but was not disappointed by a visit to this fairly old Fort built after Culloden. If you go on a nice day the walk up on the ramparts is stunning with great views of the Moray Firth and Chanorey point where the Dolphins play. A great day out.

Mobility Friendly and lots of room for kids to run (on lower level). I called ahead and they brought a motorized scooter out to the parking lot for my mother. The staff was incredibly helpful and accomodating. The history of this fort is long so plan on spending hours, or the day there. There is a cafe and also a restaurant. Its a beautiful drive out of the city and not as crowded as most attractions we visited.

Fort George is a great visit, however if it is a cold day on the day you visit be sure to wrap up warmer as the fort lies on the coast and is a step colder.
The site is home to active serving military personnel who you will see either on guard duty or doing their daily tasks. Two military policemen stopped to answer a question from my 7 year old son which made his day. Mostly the personnel are busy with their task but as pleasant. The museum paints vividly the picture of the British army in the region both past and present and it's a great learning experience. There's lots to see and take in. The cafe is great also and believe me when I say they are correct about their famous bacon rolls! Super tasty.

What an interesting and historic place to visit for anyone even slightly interested in military history. Unbeknown to us on the Saturday we visited, the Fort was holding its annual Highland games. We visited here on a recent trip to Scotland. Our grandfather was in the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders in WW1. This was a visit to Fort George and thr Highlander Museum is included in the visit. I paid £10 for entrance which was extremely good value considering what you get to see. It was a terribly wet day, so I made for the museum as it was inside.
There is so much to learn and take in you could easily spend the whole day. The museum charts the history of various regiments and the various wars they fought through. It is a truly humbling experience.
It is a tribute to those who have taken time to get this museum together as well as the stories of those who served and gave their lives for our country.
Well worth a visit, highly recommended.

Excellent day out. Great history, even better if like me you had someone serve in the regiments associated with the Fort and to walk in their footsteps.
A big thank you to all the staff and especially to the serving soldiers for putting up with " the bloody tourists"
Fort George is an 18th-century fortress and barracks located in Scotland. It served as a garrison for the army and now houses the Highlanders' regimental museum. Visitors can explore numerous walking paths leading from Inverness or take short drives to visit popular attractions such as Culloden Battlefield and Loch Ness. Inverness, which is just a 30-minute drive away, has plenty of shops to stock up on supplies for your trip since most towns in the Highlands have limited services.
Fantastic historic place. Still an army barracks, but open to visitors. Army personnel and staff very friendly to visitors. Loads of combat memorabilia over the centuries. Fantastic views from the top of the walls. Well worth the admission charge!

Fort George, built in 1746 after the Battle of Culloden is known as the largest 18th century fortification. What a spectacular place even if you’re not a fan of military history. The location, looking out over the Moray Firth is just beautiful. The fort itself is so well-preserved, and the volume of information, as well as the quality of the displays, is quite overwhelming. We only had 2 hrs to tour the entire fort but could have easily spent twice that long wandering the grounds, the battlements, buildings, barracks, museum…
A must-see.

Lovely monument near Inverness. It is a massive area with sea views. Some areas are not open to the public, as they are still used by the army. But you will get a map with an explanation of which areas can be visited. The place is also well known for dolphins watching. You have good change to see dolphins from there.

Fantastic place to visit. The museum is awesome. You have to visit the cafe for the Fort George bacon sandwich. Lovely piece of Dundee cake as well. Well worth the £9.00 entry fee. Will visit again. All staff friendly, though I was amazed to be passing working military personnel and soldiers as it's still a working base which I hadn't realised.

Upon arrival the castle was massive and took many photos the museum was great with many things to look at and a lot of history.
The gift shop was big and had a verity of things and ended up buying every medal I could buy was very happy.
The scenery is great you can see a vast area around the fort and even have a chance to see dolphins although did not see any.
The fort is still being used as a military site so it's great to be able to see all the soldiers and interact with them even got to see some holding guns so super cool.
The entrance price was cheap for what you got to see and I was able to keep busy for 3 hours so great place to go with the family and a lot to see.
The fort walls are very high up so be mindful of that if your taking kids if anyone falls they will be in critical condition.
honestly 1 of the best days out this year so very happy.

Tha surroundings are amazing. Wasn't able to get it because the last entry is 1h before it closes. Once we were on a road trip and that information was not available on google, we were only allowed to take a picture at the entrance ( we asked the lady and she was kind enough to allow us to). But from what we saw, it's worth the ride there. So please check the time before you go.

Interesting place not too far from Inverness if you are interested in old but active military base and history.. I particularly liked that they have a Highland Museum inside the complex which is included in the tour. Not much of a view from the fort but still worth a brief visit.

Wonderful place with a free guided tour. Donations welcomed. Tour guides will tell wonderful stories that might make you wonder if they are totally true but why question a good story. You also get to visit with a Jacobite who will tell you what life would have been like, where the phrase the whole nine yards came from and other phrases we still use today thanks to the powered musket. Beautiful views. Who knows you might even see dolphins.

Nice location and well maintained visitor shop. Didn’t have time to do the tour but browsed and bought in the shop. Disappointed that they didn’t offer tastings and indeed charged £7.50 if you wanted to try one ! Don’t know if that was refundable if you bought a bottle. Very odd not to offer tastings even if you have a busy centre. It’s part of the service right? Especially when they are trying to sell some rather expensive whiskies too.

We’ve booked a tour but it was only us, who tuned up, so we’ve got a ‘private tour’ of the distillery! Zoe was great at explaining the history of the distillery and how it all works. Tasting was great and even for me (who’s not a whisky person) finding one that I actually like was easy.

Fantastic day out, our tour guide, Eilidh was really knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely enjoy answering questions and taking us round. Interesting to see what goes on and how it's made. Plus it was nice to taste a few different bottles before buying a nice one to take home!

🥃 This distillery is a home for one of the most recognisable single malt scotch whiskies out there. Sweet and just a little bit smokey.
💷 Tours are available (as in any medium to large distillery) and naturally the shop with a selection of souvenirs.
🅿️ Parking is large and will definitely sustain the load if it gets busy

During my road trip to explore Scotland I came to know about this place …. Being a spirit lover I didn’t want to miss chance to see how does it look and how they made liquor. When we reached - one distillery tour was already going on so we went to shop directly. They had the wonderful collections of scotch with different flavours. It was awesome visiting it. As we were late so their paid tasting facility was shut for the day.

Just a flying visit to see the distillery exterior.
First time I've been here and Glennorangie is in a beautiful location in Tain overlooking the Dornoch Firth.
The new lighthouse is a beautiful bit of architecture and those tall stills looked very good in the afternoon sun.
I've always particularly enjoyed The Quinta Ruban port finish and hope to take a tasting and tour when I have more time.

An amazing distillery and we'll established. There is plenty of free parking and suitable for walking for all ages around the site.
The visitors centre is free to enter and there is a visitor's shop along with a bar. There is also a Glenmorangie food van that serves drinks crisps soup and pasta etc.
It's worth a visit and it is on the NC500 route. I missed out of the tours as they were fully booked. So if you want to go on the whiskey tour then you should book in advance to save disappointment.
The distillery is right on the coast and beautiful.

Excellent distillery located in the Scottish Highlands. I absolutely love Glenmorangie scotch so arranged a visit to the distillery. Great tour and visitor center. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, Highly recommended!

We booked the Classic Tour. The distillery is in a stunning location by the sea. We did quick visit to the facilities and then went to the tasting room. The lady guides were very young and seemed to be on the first days of job so we did not get many insights of the brand or particular characteristics of the Whisks we tasted. This tour was OK but was the poorest of the 10 distilleries we visited during the Whisky trail. Hope they improve in the future.
I any case the quality of the drinks were great and the facilities worth visiting.

With each sip, the smoothness caresses the palate, igniting a symphony of flavors that dance across the tongue. There's a depth and complexity that unravels slowly, like the sun setting over the horizon, revealing new layers of character with every passing moment.

We had a great tour with Zoe and enjoyed additional tasting in the bar. I do recommend visiting the nearby Pictish Stone from which Glenmorangie took their logo inspiration. It’s just 15 min drive from the distillery, called The Cadbol Stone

Very interesting and visit at Glenmorangie. The innovation tour was very pleasant and the tasting good. Our guide Molly was extremely knowledgable. Very Recommendable. We went there on spec but advise book in advance.

Wonderfully informative tour, conducted by a young gentleman with possibly the driest sense of humour that I've ever encountered. Amazing.
The whisky was pretty jolly tasty, too!

Lunacy - a stunning setting and great whisky deserve a footpath from the local town. Why can’t you walk there apart from a walk along the main road - someone at distillery needs to wake up and work with council so you can stay in Tain and enjoy a stunning walk alongside stunning whisky
I have been to this Cathedral a few times it is always worthwhile. I recently visited on Remembrance weekend and it was interesting to read about the links with Christian Aid. I also noticed a beautiful Bible which was on display. There is no rush to leave this place, enjoy the peace and take time to reflect and pray.

Beautiful haven of peace. Stained glass windows are excellent. Hidden gems to look for are Robert Thompson carved mouse and a carved Highland Piper.

There are grander cathedrals, for sure, but this one is beautiful. Located in picturesque Dornoch it's where Madonna married whatshisname

The cathedral was still closed to the general public due to the pandemic as of mid-October so we only took shots of the outside during the day and at night , small but impressive it dominates the central area of Dornoch and at night when lit up it’s a nice place to take a walk round.

Wonderful small cathedral just off the high street. Always interesting to have a wander around such places.

Very nice, warm look to this cathedral. Lovely ladies volunteer here and religious trinkets for sale. Donation is appreciated on entry, especially if you are taking photos. Buy the guide book, or do your research first and read about what this cathedral went through, burnt three times…amazing!

Beautiful, peaceful cathedral with loads of stained glass windows. Breathtakingly beautiful and free!
Expansive golf club overlooking the sea features multiple courses, practice facilities & clubhouse.
Beautiful location, stunning scenery, what's not to like. Amazingly well kept, all staff very helpful, especially David the starter (sorry about the first 2 tee offs!!). Lovey pack with course guide, leather wallet etc. Course is hard but not too much so, even a high handicapped golfer can get round ok. Seems like every hole has a beautiful view.

Had a wonderful day at Royal Dornoch. The starter was great, weather cooperated and the course was in great condition. 1 of my favorite courses that we played around Inverness.

What an amazing golf course and friendly members and staff. I would recommend every golfer to make the trip to have what I class as the best golfing overall experience ever.

World's 3rd oldest course its a beautiful course with so many tricky holes. Like so many links you have to battle the weather and avoid the bunkers to shoot well. Preferred the front to the back nine. Last hole was a little underwhelming but was very honoured to have played this course.

The staff were very friendly, yet professional.
The golf course is a fantastic links style course by the sea and is a real pleasure to play. This is a must for all golfers of all levels.
Highly recommended.

I only played the Struie course, but 100% worth playing. Course in excellent condition and set up to be fair off the tee so any handicapper can then have a go at the greens. Then it became a little bit more trickier and the better shots are rewarded, the bad shot not so! Have fun and enjoy the views as well.

If you love golf , at least once in your life have to visit and play this place.
The course was in perfect condition and the background landscape is amazing.
Staff is friendly and helpful, pro shop is great.

We played here Sept 4, 2023. Spectacular day and the course was in fantastic condition. 100% of the holes are right next to the coast line of Moray Firth. The best hole among all is the Foxy (14th hole). It is always against the wind. Had a great drive from the Yellow tees and had 175 yrds approach (200 yrds with wind). Landed on the green, but 3 putted for a bogey.
I shot 42 & 41.

These public lavatories should be avoided at night unless absolutely necessary. This is due to the fact that they have no electric lighting which made the evacuation of my bowels more challenging than usual.
The cleanliness of these facilities also leaves a lot to be desired. As I departed the facilities I noticed my shorts had fallen into a pool of urine I had not noticed whilst sat down. All in all a very unsatisfactory lavatory experience!

I am a professional dog walker so rely on public toilets during the week when I'm out and about (when they are open!)
I think Dornoch toilets leave a lot to be desired as do the toilets at Balintore(which aren't listed)which I unfortunately also have to use occasionally.
