A day well spent 🙂 my kids loved it

A beautiful park that combines games, swimming pools, and some cafes. It is very suitable for families and children. You can spend a whole day without getting bored.

Really good place to go with kids!
Needs some improvements on snack bars, they work really slowly and we often saw someone from the bar running to get some things that were missing. Maybe fixing the last point will improve workers productivity.
Will came back to it in the future, but this time will take a lunch box, cause there are good picnic spaces

Go with the entire family. Make sure you stay the entire day and take a swimming suit. Their pools are amazing. There are nice place for a nice picnic and the crew are amazing make sure you thank them.

Great fun for the little 1 and parents too.

Was a pleasant experience, but the familiy discount that is presented on the entrance, apparently, requires a father even if you don't have one...
It can't just be a single mother.

Great place to go with kids. There's plenty of rides, a great picnic spot and a large swimming pool with an astonishing pirate boat.
Fábio Santos — Google review
Utter disappointment. The webpage of the venue stated clearly it would be open on Sunday the 23th from 10am until 6pm. After an almost 3 hour drive from Galicia we arrived only to find out the place was closed. The two children traveling with us had a hard time understanding why they couldn't enter the park. Please update your website info correctly!

Good place to spend a day with kids. It mixes dry with wet distractions. The entrance took awhile (high season), since there was no online store for us to buy the tickets in advance but once you enter, there's no shortage of places to rest your things, although there's not that many places at shade.

Great fun. Lots of different things to do. From rides to swimming pools. Kids loves it!

The Douro Museum is a contemporary museum located at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Douro Valley. It showcases the wine culture and history of the region through its exhibits, with an emphasis on the production and transportation of wine via rabelos boats before railways were invented. The building has been tastefully refurbished and features video screens throughout to provide a comprehensive understanding of the local wine industry in both Portuguese and English languages. Admission is priced at 6.
Excellent little museum; half general culture, half wine. Friendly staff, interesting exhibits. Nice gift shop. Central town. Free glass 🍷 of port at end.
Fantastic terrace w/little bar. Best spot in town. Chickens, Guinea fowl, wacky sculpture - what's not to like?
Tip: If you're entitled to reduced entrance price (e.g. senior), you miss out on glass of port so, of you want the drink, pay full price.

Nice Touro region wine and portal museum located right off the major road with abundance of free parking. Inside they are multiple levels with permanent exhibit of duo rewind and some equipments. However it does not have a lot of information on wine making but mostly focus on regional planting of wine and creation of slopes. To find interesting details on how Wang’s or portals are made, they can be found on small locations which is not very obvious.
Nevertheless the six dollar adult admission includes a glass of Porto Tawny 10 year.
Lynne Lin — Google review
The museum is beautiful and interesting, I really enjoyed. The Porto wine that they provide you at the end of the tour is just bad.
PS. The taxidermy part looks like beginners but it’s so old that it’s impossible not loving it more. Just crazy!

Please note; I visited this place with a large group and we had pre booked lunch and a guided tour there so I don’t know how it may relate to a ‘regular’ museum visit.
Super interesting place and the tour guide we had (it was a group booked trip) was honestly fantastic, he was funny and really knowledgeable and had a local link with the wine making so it was really interesting to hear it from his point of view. The port tasting we had was also great, and the staff in general were friendly and welcoming. It was also so lovely to see some artwork from a local painter who had recently died and left her works to the museum. I would definitely come back here.
Also there were chickens.
Rachel Lawson — Google review
Worth a visit. Interactive and informative with old movies on the production and transport of port. When we visited there were two other exhibitions which were associated with the region (black pottery and a local painter) which we enjoyed as well. Glass of port at the end of your visit is included in the entrance fee.
pauline van Heiningen — Google review
This is a nice little museum that showcases the history of the Douro and the port wine trade. For the wine students out there, they have Demarcation marker #1, from the original demarcation of Mrq. Pombal. (Some of us find things like that cool).
It's a small-ish museum, so it's easy to add to your schedule. The price of admission includes a free glass of port at the rooftop bar when you're done. When I was there is was a 10 year Tawny.
Reid Bailey — Google review
Ok museum sharing some of the history on wine making in the region.
I bumped into a school(university?) Exhibit In the final tasting room which was unexpected but interesting
Vincent Mok — Google review
This is not a big museum, but we really enjoyed our visit. The building has been beautifully renovated and is on several levels. There are not a huge amount of exhibits but everything is in English as well as Portuguese. There are lots of little video screens throughout which really paint the picture of the local industry, including the building and sailing of rabelos which carried the wine to mmmn Porto before the advent of the railway. Fascinating story and we found the staff very friendly and helpful. €6.00 per person entry and includes a nice glass of Port at the end
Paul St Jack — Google review
Had a very interesting guided tour around the museum. Mostly relating to the production of Port Wine and how it has produced through the years and then carried down the River Douro on flat bottomed boats to Porto where it was store and then exported all over the Portugese Empire and also to England.

A very interesting museum which specializes in the history of Port.

Really enjoyed this museum in a beautiful building. It had enough information to learn about the history of port without any museum fatigue. The wall of port was really fun to study and the port smelling wall also very cool. Plus a nice port tasting at the end. I know so much more about port!

Worth visiting. Learnt interesting facts about Port wine production.

Very nice small museum with a lovely gift shop. Conveniently located on the main street by the river. Modern exhibition housed in a repurposed building. Port and wine tasting on the outdoor terrace overlooking the Douro!
Lili Rehak — Google review
Very nice museum about the region and the Port wine.
At the end a port wine tasting is included.
Bernhard Koelmel — Google review
Okay comprehensive tour of Port wines but it is missing tastings and could use a professional sommelier. The gallery for the famous local artist was a great addition especially as it adds spark to otherwise average conversations.
Mike Weller — Google review
Really interesting museum that wasn't very busy and offered a tasting of Port from the outside bar with each entry ticket purchased.
Epster — Google review
Very nicely done. You can install an audio app on your phone with different languages, for 15 stations, to get the full story of Douro/Port. I really liked the station where you can train your senses by smelling different tastes, from nut, honey to berries. After all you are welcome to enjoy a glas of Port overlooking the Douro, making an impressive turn

Quinta da Pacheca is a unique hotel situated on a wine estate in Douro Valley. Guests can enjoy stunning river views and indulge in wine tasting sessions, accompanied by delicious meals at the hotel's restaurant. The property also offers an extraordinary experience of staying inside wine barrels and being part of the harvest during September. Apart from its beautiful location, visitors can witness entertaining performances by musicians playing keyboard and electric violin while enjoying excellent wines and ports.
We spent a night at the Quinta da Pacheca and had a very pleasant time. The hotel itself has a tasteful mix of new build around older buildings. In terms of location, the Quinta is right in a bend on the Douro, surrounded by vineyards. We stayed in the new rooms (the old rooms were under renovation). The rooms were very nice and comfortable. The restaurant was very good. The service was friendly and attentive. I was struck by how quiet it was. Even though there are some event spaces and the night we stayed there was a large party with music - surprisingly there was little or no noise leaking into the rest of the hotel.
Mark Laedlein — Google review
Attended a wedding reception at this venue and stayed the night in the hotel - both the reception and the hotel itself are exceptionally well presented. The food was delicious, and the wine itself is divine. The hotel room was exceptionally comfortable and had every creature comfort you could ask for, including a complementary bottle of Pacheca wine. The hotel staff go out of their way to make you feel relaxed and cared for. I couldn’t recommend this winery and hotel enough.
Nicole Boyd — Google review
Did not stay at the hotel only came for a wine tour and tasting experience which was for beginners and geared towards a sales pitch. We did eat in the restaurant and it was very good.
Purchased over $3,000 in wine, port, and olive oils. Was promised delivery in 1 week, 5 weeks have gone by and no wine or port has arrived. I will be giving them one more week then I will have my credit card company reverse the charge! Poor customer service, no one will respond to my calls or email. I give them zero stars!
Pam S (EWIC) — Google review
Excellent, although it is expensive I really liked the overall experience. The staff is very, very, I mean very good. They don't make you feel home, they make you feel in a five star hotel. I don't recommend bringing kids here, even though they will probably do everything to please them, it isn't a hotel for kids. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful location. We had a talk about their Port then tasted the white port...very nice. Our group then had an evening with a delicious dinner, excellent wine and port and very good entertainment.
We did not use the accommodation.

By far one of the best stays we’ve ever had! The barrel is such a cool unique place and the bed and shower were heavenly. The breakfast delivered to the room, pool charcuterie and sangria, and the duck rice was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. All staff were very welcoming upon arrival. Rita (restaurant?), Johnny (bar) , and Felipe (reception) were all exceptional. Highly recommend !!! Would love to go back.

Visited Quinta da Pacheco in the summer of 2022 for a wedding.
The venue itself is set in a beautiful part of Portugal and was the perfect setting for a wedding. We stayed in the main hotel and our room was very clean modern and comfortable. We also had friends who stayed in the wine barrel rooms who also loved their quirky stay!
We enjoyed a 3 night stay here before heading off to explore Porto which is a short train journey away.
Would definitely recommend to others.

Elements of our stay were every part as luxurious as you’d expect, the dinner at the restaurant was perfect, reception service and attentiveness to allow us to enjoy the facilities prior to check in welcoming and caring.
We stayed in the wine barrel which was novel and enjoyable however needing a deep clean and refurbish of some damp and faded sections of the barrel. Unfortunately attending the wine store left a bad feeling for us, rude and dismissive we attended the bar where the barman provided more information, detail and recommendations than the man offering the tastings. Breakfast was ok at best. Overall the price for the wine barrel stay is for the novelty rather than the luxury which we enjoyed for what it was.

This place is so picturesque! We stopped by as part of a tour of Douro Valley. We are not big wine drinkers so we just wanted to visit a vineyard and have a tour. They were able to accommodate us and our tour guide gave us a tour of the grounds. It had really well maintained grounds, gift shop, and various out amenities. On our next trip here, we plan to spend a few days here. Just gorgeous!

I visited for 1 night and stayed in one of the wine barrel rooms. The whole experience was amazing. A shame that we only stayed 1 night. The staff was welcoming and accommodating-we arrived early and needed to store luggage/wait for our tour guide. This place is a gem!

The hotel and the winery is really nice - quite upscale. Beautiful location and well maintained. Staff v friendly. Breakfast included in the pricing is substantial - wish it was served hot and not just left on warmers for guests coming in a little late...by which time it is quite cold
Rooms are good. Do not understand bathrooms with glass doors that don't mask the acoustics of your daily routine to the other occupants. Also no coffee makers in the room and the only availability is in the dining room that doesn't open till 8 am !!
Lovely bar. Amazing bartender !
Great place ! Would definitely recommend 👌🏼
Read the fine print on the wine tour. The guests get a free mini one every evening. So if you stay there take advantage of that !

Went here for a meal and wine tasting. Meal was superb and service excellent. We had musical entertainment from a keyboard player and electric violin. They stirred up a good tune and got all dancing.

We attended a dinner at the Quinta in the large events hall. The Quinta setting and environment were lovely. The area in which we were given a brief talk on the history before the dinner was well setup.
The events hall was plain and large enough to hold about 150 people. Our meal started with asparagus soup (which needed some seasoning). Next was steak (which varied from well done to medium rare) with beans and tasty potatoes. This was followed by an assortment of deserts, cheeses and tea/ coffee. The staff worked hard and were quite nice.
We were entertained by a duo - violinist and keyboard which was very good. They managed to get most of the attendees up and dancing.

Tour was great and resident peacock was a hit with the kids. If you like port and robust reds this tasting would be a good option in the area. However, don't agree with charging 14 Euros for children, there was hardly any additional food/snacks provided for a table of 4 vs 2, and nothing was provided for them to drink (water/juice).

We did a tour with wine pairing and cheese. Hugo was enthusiastic and engaging and provided just the right level of detail. For the tasting they provided some on their mid to top tier drinks ( wine and port) which we appreciated. Thank you Hugo. We walked away with a 30 year old Port and will save it for the marriage of our son and soon to be daughter in law's wedding. Will recommend this tour and Quinta to others.

I had the most amazing experience staying here, it was absolutely perfect. I visited in December and it wasn't crowded or full of tourists, which is ideal. You can walk the grounds and the free wine tour/tasting was delicious (and definitely over poured). The spa was wonderful and one of the best massages I've had. They set up so many tours for us and there are so many wineries and restaurants nearby - you definitely need to get out of the hotel and enjoy. I would recommend renting a car to explore around the area and staying for three full nights to fully experience the hotel and surroundings in the Duoro Valley.

This is likely the best place to taste wines in the whole area. Amazing (!) selection especially when factoring in the super low price, coupled with detailed explanations, and breathtaking views. Pedro made our time amazing. Look for him - he really knows how to best take you through this wine journey

Winery restaurant offering delicious fine dining tasting menu with wine pairing experience. It was unique, and the food and the high quality wine were one of a kind experience! Do keep in mind that it is pricy, but if you get a chance to explore all the winery has to offer in terms of their own produced wine and their unique cuisine, give it a try!

Our first stop in the douro Valley on the way to our place. Really cool scenic winery with great hospitality and fair prices. We opted for only one port since we ain't the biggest fans. The single grape sousão was our favorite. Nicely done and this grape seems not to be around at many other places.
g S — Google review
We stayed in a wine barrel for 3 nights. That was 1 night too long.
Our accommodations: The wine barrels were really neat but wasn’t happy with the view of cars passing by or views of your buses that you didn’t see in the pictures. If we had stayed in the other row that faced only the vines and the city as a backdrop, I would have given the rooms 5 stars. It was clean. The bed was comfortable but with the shape, if you’re tall, your feet may hang off a bit. Not bad but it’s small so you can’t expect much more than that. A table to put the breakfast on would have been nice. Otherwise when it’s raining you have to put it on your bed and the bottom of the crate was dirty and got a comforter dirty.
The welcoming reception was nice but could use some tweaking. The “tour” of the hotel was more of a sales pitch to tell you how great the place was but they if they are going to give a tour, they should give you more relevant information. Where the wine tasting room was. Where you could buy wine. The hill to the barrels was VERY steep. However if you want a little longer more scenic route, walk down the road to the exit and there’s a nice path only open to those who stay at the wine barrel, down a row of vines. That would have been nice to know also.
The spa: we did a relaxation for 2. Jessica was my therapist and she was great. Made sure I was warm and asked about pressure. When I asked for more pressure she gave it. The room was chilly so a warming blanket underneath you would have made it perfect. The entrance to the spa was through the reception area but there is a door that leads to the wine barrel lane that should be open for those staying in those instead of having to go around the building and through the reception area.
Winery tour: Fabio was amazing! Very knowledgeable, entertaining and personable. Definitely worth it.
Free tasting for guests: they don’t tell you to meet in reception. Also, they give you a small tour which was not explained to us when we booked it when we arrived. So we spent a half an hour at the wine tasting room waiting on them. That info should have been given when we booked it.
Food: first and foremost, you have to schedule every meal before you arrive or at the place. Having a timeframe instead of a specific time would have been a lot nicer and more convenient. We stayed 3 nights and the menu never changed so it was definitely one too many nights for our preference. The selection was great and the food was very tasty. The chef adds something special they bring out to you and when they brought out something we didn’t eat they changed the meat and brought us out something different. That was really special! Sophia, who worked in dining, was awesome. She was so pleasant and kind and gave excellent recommendations! All of the staff was great but she really stood out.
Breakfast was the only meal that I thought was horrible. No bowls, no spoons, and always had to wait for plates. It’s a buffet style and the eggs were never filled up. If you want a hot breakfast, get it delivered to your room. Coffee was a huge line and hard to come by so my husband wasn’t too happy about that. They should have a coffee machine in reception or 2 of them.
Glad we went once but don’t know if we’d stay again.

As a wedding photographer I have the opportunity to visit some of the best wedding places in the world and La Quinta da Pacheca is definitely one of them. Located right into one of the finest Douro valley vineyard this place as something magical for your Portuguese wedding. The surroundings are lovely and the rooms are really high standard and offer all the comfort you need. Let’s not forget the swimming pool and the little cabins where you can sleep into the vineyard. If you are getting married there, I would love to come back and be by your side.

We did the wine tasting and olive picking experience and it’s was perfect. The location and estate is breathtaking and very well managed, the food is delicious, the chef is very talented and most importantly the staff went above and beyond our expectations to make the experience a success even if the weather did not allow for the outdoor segment of the experience. We didn’t know it included lunch and we informed them at last minute about being a vegetarian the chef made an excellent effort to recreate all 4 courses suitable for vegetarian and it was all absolutely fabulous. Due credits to Fabio for making the olive picking experience enjoyable and entertaining inspite of the heavy rains.

Rua do Relógio do Sol 261, 5100-424 Lamego, Portugal
The Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios is an 18th-century Catholic chapel renowned for its Baroque & Rococo facade and ornate altar. Situated on a hill west of the town's center, it is considered the most famous monument in the area. Despite visiting numerous churches and cathedrals, this one stands out as something special due to its location amidst some of Portugal's most picturesque surroundings.
Beautiful place, over the city of Lamego, a great view all around. The inside of the church is calm, lovely and calls out to silence and prayer. It us a must if you are in the area and make sure to go up all those stairs, but in winter clothes when it's sunny😅😅😅😅
Maria Filomena Pires (Mena) — Google review
Great views of the town from the church. Similar to Bom Jesus in Braga with stairs all the way down. Some very massive ancient trees; one being a chestnut which looks about 400 years old! Well worth a visit.
Lili Rehak — Google review
Easy access with public bus line 200. You can find bus stop just next to train station. If you don't want to go all the way up by stairs there is also nice old escalator for around 1€ but without nice view during short ride. You can also spend some time in big and green park at the top.
Klaudia Przezdziecka — Google review
This is very beautiful and worth a visit. The outside is stunning and you get a beautiful view of the town from the top of the hill. We drove to the top to visit the church instead of scaling the 600+ steps. (The bottom of the staircase was closed due to repairs being made, and it was raining.) We spent about 1/2 hour here on our way to the Douro Valley.
Elizabeth Bernal — Google review
Imposing staircase surrounded by vegetation and landings with interesting sculptures, fountains and tiles.
At the top, the sanctuary and a panoramic view of the city.
I advise you to start the route on the avenue.
Jennifer Sousa — Google review
Stunning church, first seen lit up on a dark evening, with cascading stairway intermittently decorated with blue white tile images. It literally looked like a stairway to heaven, the brightness set against the midnight blue sky. You can walk or drive to the top. Never seen anything like it before. Well worth visiting.

Beautiful Church, Beautiful Grounds. And I'm not sure why no one has ever mentioned you don't need to use the stairs as there are hiking paths all the way up - my elderly mother (75) was able to make all the way up with no problems.

Just amazing! 🤩
Everything is so big and full of details. Status, mazes and fountains.
I didn't get the chance to see inside as it's rarely open but the outside is just so full of things that it might be the best.
By car is easy but not shorter (in distance) than walking as there is a long way. The signs are not well though.
Nearby there are supportive cafe and they were renovating some building too.

Even if you've had enough of churches and cathedrals - this one is special and worth the visit, not necessarily inside...
It is in one of the prettiest areas of Portugal and its surroundings are enchanting, no less.
We visited in October so it was misty in the small forest around it (and all over) - the scent of the air was intoxicating, walking there felt like forever and not enough, I lost track of time. And.. we saw a squirrel, which was a nice bonus!

Wonderful experience visiting Santuario de Nossa Senhora! We decided to walk down and back up twice! Pretty challenging but worth it. The view from the top is exceptional!! I’d recommend it! Not sure how pilgrims were able to do the journey on there knees?

The most gorgeous and impressive cathedral, stairs, and grounds. Not to be missed in Lamego. Free parking, which we appreciated.
Starasia Starr — Google review
Really nice church a few minutes drive from Lamego. Sits on top of the hill with a few hundred steps to walk down, geometrically shaped. The church garden has many mature trees allowing great hike and walk around for a picnic. Majority of the statues are located on the top. If you do drive there are a few stops along the way you can take multiple posts and pictures while driving up to the top. They are abundance of free parking‘s next to the church on the top.
However if you would like to take a picture of all the stairs there is also a plaza that is long and rectangular shape at the base with free parking as well where you can take a nice picture of the church and stairs completely.
The church is worthwhile to see because they even open up the back inner chambers to the cathedral so that you can view more intimate settings of the church

Beautiful tiles, both inside as outside the church. There's a little terrace near the church to drink a café or a cool drink
Passadiços do Paiva Trailhead (Areinho) offers a stunning 5.5-mile wooden walkway along the Paiva River, providing breathtaking views of the valley. The well-maintained 8km trail allows for side-by-side walking and leads to the Arouca 516m suspension bridge, although reservations are necessary due to limited availability. This picturesque route showcases untouched landscapes, crystal-clear river waters, and endangered European species.
A great 8km (5mile) walk that is well maintained and allows you to walk two abreast on a very clear path. There is the option of taking in the Arouca 516m suspension bridge but you will need to book ahead as places are very limited. The walk itself is a great way to see the Paiva valley and gets you close to nstire.
If you are walking in one direction then the majority of people walk downstream. This involves a 1.5 km walk up to the highest point of the trail followed by 0.5km of descent via 600+steps and the remainder of the trail is a meander to the end. Jeeps and taxis are available at both ends and it is a 12km trip back to the start via the road.
If you are doing a return trip then start wherever suits you best just be prepared to go up relentlessly for 0.5km at some stage. There are restaurants at both ends and plenty of river beaches and alike to stop at for a picnic /rest /swim!
We went in late March on a Monday and parking was easy and the route was not busy but in the height of the summer they can get 3,000 people a day which may take some of the enjoyment out of the day. Parking is limited and there are very limited alternative parking locations within 1km. If you are thinking of going in the summer I can imagine a very early start would not only avoid the congestion (road and trails) but also be cooler and more interesting light.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did

5.5 mile hike along the Paiva River. The sheer length of the decking walkway is unbelievable, allowing safe access along the banks. There are stops along the trail for swimming, etc as well. A few snack bars were also located at the trail main points to allow refueling, water, a snack, etc. If you here bells, it's not dehydration, look around and you'll see free range cows and goats. 😉

This is a walkway along the Paiva River with beautiful scenery. My family and I enjoyed walking it together. We have teens and still had to bring lots of snacks and water so be prepared. There is a nice place to stop about midway through with restrooms. These walkways are not stroller friendly.

We only hiked the vertical section from the main road up to the base of the suspension bridge. Be prepared for about 300 metres of vertical gain, all in nice wooden stairs - definitely a knee workout. Beautiful views from the top. The suspension bridge now costs €12 (not €2 as it says on the poster), and you have to wait for an official tour time slot, which would have been an hours wait for us.
Tristam MacDonald — Google review
Beautiful hike with amazing views. The prices are pretty gougy and don't seem to be posted anywhere. Its 12€ to cross the suspension bridge or 2€ to just the paths 1 if you pay online.

The Paiva Walkways are located on the left bank of the Paiva River, in the municipality of Arouca, district of Aveiro. There are 8 km that provide an "untouched" tour, surrounded by landscapes of unparalleled beauty, in an authentic natural sanctuary, next to whitewater descents, quartz crystals and endangered species in Europe. The route extends between the river beaches of Areinho and Espiunca, with Vau beach between the two. The Paiva Walkways are an 8.7 km wooden walkway, built along the cliffs of from Paiva. They are located about 75 km southeast of Porto, within the Arouca Unesco Global Geopark. This incredible attraction, due to its unique beauty, has already been awarded 10 times in the World Travel Awards. The 516 Arouca Bridge is the longest suspended pedestrian bridge in the world, measuring 516 meters in length and 175 meters in height. Suspended on Tibetan-style steel cables, the 516 Arouca Bridge was a great challenge for Engineering. This impressive structure joins the banks of the Paiva River Gorge, over the beautiful Cascata das Aguieiras. Next to us, the Paiva River flows in an almost musical way, rising its flow in the winter period, extending the adrenaline of its wild waters to the adventurers of rafting and kayaking. Along the shore, the journey begins in the bathing areas of Areinho and/or Espiunca, and halfway along the route, the small paradise of the leisure and leisure area of Vau opens up in front of us. It's the eight kilometers of a lifetime. Project co-financed by «ON2 – O Novo Norte», through QREN and the European Regional Development Fund.

Great place to start this amazing place. Very nice officials available to support you with directions and online ticket purchase. Do not be too late, as the parking has limited spaces. Taxis are available at the end of the trail and bring you back for 16 euro (nov 2023)

Enough internal space?! You will need it.
Trail shoes needed. For there will be some slippery conditions.

Absolutely beautiful place. You have to be somewhat fit but it's worth it. You also have a choice of where to start your walk and perhaps bypass the initial 500+ steps.

That's a wonderful hike along a wooden pathway that runs along the river. Unfortunately we arrived a bit late around 17:20 and we initially wanted to walk back and forth the 8kms.
It would take approximately 2h for us one way but we did not have enough time so we walked back from 3/4 of the route.
The walk is easy on the path but there are quite a lot of stairs and during a warm day it can become moderate difficulty.
There are beautiful sports along the way and if you have enough time it definitely is a relaxing hike! I highly recommend planning your visit here.

Absolutely gorgeous trail to cover. This trail consists of 2 times 9kms making it an 18km trail in total. It features some amazing sights such as the wooden stairs, the natural river flowing through the trail and the 516 meter long hanging bridge. The trail is pretty easy since the path is made of wood. We spend 2 hours hiking. There are taxi’s at each point which take you to your parking spot for around €15-€20

Wonderful place to visit while in Largo do Pelourinho. Save time to visit the local shops near the entrance. Incredible Cork pocketbooks, Port Wine and seasoned almonds. Prices are reasonable as well!! We saved on purchasing two Backpack pocketbooks for my kids. The owner gave me a cork pen with my purchase. Also was able to purchase a gift pack of Port Wine and several samples of flavors almonds.
The guides were very knowledgeable and the tour was educational.

If you would like to see a medieval village that has been preserved in the Portuguese countryside this is the right spot. There are not many tourists so it is a hidden gem. The ancient stone streets and walls are beautiful and rich with history. It has a tradition of almond cultivation so the shops have almond liquor and candies. The view from the castle is breathtaking.
Theresa Hoban — Google review
Fun place to explore with easy access to nearly every part of it. 75 residents but mostly selling things. Love the cork products.

The village has an interesting history. We had a pleasant walk around, visiting the church, cistern, ruins and various other buildings and landmarks.
The most popular shop that sold drinks and food and had nice places to sit, was a madhouse. About 8 coach loads of tourists arrived at around the same time and everybody seemed to be trying to fit into the building.
There are a few other shops that sold almonds, cork goods and other goods and souvenirs.

We loved this old village on the top of a hill. We were not as happy with the drive from the river - very twisty and turny! There is a cafe near the entrance which has some tables outside. We sat under the shade of an old tree and were very happy to sit chatting and drinking for a while.

The panel was signed by the first generation of Portuguese modernist artists, artist Joaquim Lopez in 1931, and depicts scenes from the rural life of the region, the famous city fair and much more. It's just a pity that it is located behind the road and it's problematic to get close.

As far as malls go, it is the definition of mediocre. As average as a mall can get you have access to most of the things you need to have in a mall. The parking is well priced and there is plenty of space, it has a large gym and swimming pool, and a very small ice skating rink at the top of the mall. What is annoying is the layout, which forces you to go around the mall to get to different levels. Understandably designed this way for maximum store exposure, which I think is great for stores and new visitors, but exhausting for those who know what they want and are on a mission to get it.

Affordable ice rink with REAL ICE.
1. Affordable by being staffed by only 1 over worked attendant.
2. Ice skates were all knackered to the point of me needing to stuff mine with tissue due to the pain of wearing them.
3. Ice was pretty much at melting point, -½°C, and had formed a notable circular pool around high traffic areas. This was in December.
4. Ice hadn't been polished for a day or so and was bumpy in areas.
It was tolerable, but go with manageable expectations.
I will return there, but not frequently

So I have visited the mall over the years as we visited family. Having the opportunity to visit over the Christmas season makes me very happy. The decorations are excellent BUT the best thing about it all is the great activities for the kids. There are usually activities throughout the year but for Christmas there is a merry-go-round, crafts, music and even Santa for those who want. And it's all free. My family is very happy to see this. Thank you to the people at Palacio do Gelo for being a family focused place.

The shopping mall itself is great what let it down massively are the women in the malls car park walking around the cars holding small children begging for coins to feed their children when we first parked our car there was one woman holding a child stuffing her face with food as soon as we parked she was there over my shoulder begging for money saying she needed coin to feed her daughter and she wouldn't leave just kept talking even after I told her I didn't speak Portuguese. After returning to our car there was a different woman clutching another child in the exact same place with the same story about needed coin to feed her child. I don't know why this is tolerated when everything else about this shopping mall has been made beautifully I will not be going there again.

Beautiful Gothic cathedral and one of the few things to visit that Guarda has, but I don't have a good time paying to enter churches. It is true that the entrance is cheap and that in Spain they charge you much more. An error on the part of both countries, in France the churches and cathedrals are free. It doesn't make sense for them to tell you that the money from the tickets is for maintenance because that is done with public funds. Better to enter worship hours, if possible.
By the way, there is the possibility of going upstairs by paying an extra or being a bit smart. It is curious to walk on the roof of the cathedral, but if you do it for the views from the castle there are much better ones and it is free.

Stunning car collection, although it's not the largest one I've seen and I wouldn't drive 5 hours just to see it.
The cars on display are worth seeing, and there's something for everyone. There is also a small art section with paintings... it's worth taking a look. And there's a room dedicated solely to toy cars and collectibles. Everything is well-maintained and spotless. The short drive (10 minutes) to the second part of the museum is worth it. A wonderful museum! Spent 2 hours there before going on to the Motor Experience. Suitable for all ages. A large exhibit of Dinky toys and similar, lead soldiers and similar. Rooms of interesting articles, porcelain, tapestries, furniture, some religious artifacts. Several rooms of superb art works. The ethos is quality not quantity and it really shows. Then a second building of vintage cars and bikes. Staff were very friendly, helpful and had some English. Most of the labeling was in both Portuguese and English.

This is a gem of a museum hidden in the heavily forested central region of Portugal. Surrounded by roads from all directions of the country that are a car or bike lovers' dream.
If you are coming from Agueda, the old road is littered with hundreds of corners. Road condition a little degraded in parts but nothing my 35 profile 19inch wheels had any trouble with.
Do the full museum experience that will take you 2-3 hours and then explore the area around Tondela and head to Quinta do Cabriz restaurant for more stunning roads and a great lunch at the restaurant on the Cabriz winefarm.

Jardim do Paço Episcopal, also known as the Bishops palace garden, is a charming Baroque garden located in Castelo Branco, Portugal. Established in 1725, it features a delightful array of fountains, sculptures depicting historical Portuguese figures and saints, and even includes a playground for children. The garden is adjacent to the Paco Episcopal and boasts an assortment of trees, five lakes, and a grand staircase.
Outstanding garden...with statues of the saints and various water features including Moses pool...it was 43 degrees and I almost jumped in...A nice place to relax and reflect...Resident Cowboy and supporter of the economy of Portugal since 2016...

We really had awful weather (storm) but even with the rain I can say it's worth to see! Beautiful place, thanks to the storm we were alone there we had time to see everything 😅 Amazing oranges, beautiful sculptures and fountains make a great atmosphere... 3€ for entrance is ok price.

A truly wonderful park. Well kept, colorful, wide space, lovely natural and man-made decoration. A playground area for children, a cafe makes of it a good meeting place, and then woods area offers good shade from the harsher sun.

Lovely place to take photos. It is nice to discover all the different statues around the gardens although they are not organised by category and some of them need some TLC. This place has been preserved well and looks the same as it did 20 years ago. It is quite muddy so not the best idea during wet weather.
There are toilet facilities. Price is €3 per person, under 10yo go free. You can buy the ticket on the day. I would say you need only 1 hour to see everything there as it is a small space.
Be careful if you have young children as some of the areas are dangerous to walk through with no barriers between levels.

Exquisite. It's absolutely worth a detour to visit. There is so much history and beauty here, and the entry fee is a tiny €3.

A pretty garden with small fountain and lakes with an abundance of statues. It is located at the back of the old palace that served as the residence of several bishops of Guarda and later those of Castelo Branco. The statues are representing many figures, from kings and bishops to the symbol of each month or elements like fire. It is also adjacent to the Francisco Tavares Proença Júnior Museum which was the residence of the bishops. I recommend visiting this lovely park to everyone.
The explanations are in Portuguese and also in English. Opening Hours: April to September: 09h00-19h00;October to March 09h00-17h00. Entrance fee: 2€.

A beautiful place in Castelo Branco! This was the third time I went to the city and I can say I regret not going earlier to this amazing garden! The place itself is not that big, we are not talking about a huge park here, but rather a cozy and really beautiful small garden. What I found interesting about this place is the mix between the green and the statues. You can go and try to find what's written under the statues as a fun way to explore the place. Onde suggestion though would be to change the font under the statues, it looks way to much modern compared to the place history, I would rather see a hand drawn label than something that looks like an A4 printed at home. Apart from that, the place is totally worth going and amazing to take pictures. You only have to pay 2€ to get in but its worth it! A nice day trip to Castelo Branco.

Fantastic beautifully preserved castle and "lived in" town all within the castle walls. One of the best preserved I've visited, awesome views as it sits right atop the rocky hilltop. Great cafes, restaurants, a few shops and museum. Well worth a visit.

What a stunning castle to visit!! I was blown away by how intact it still is and the sheer brilliance of the construction. It also has the biggest cistern in any of Portugal's castles. How on earth they built it on top of a mountain is beyond me. A must see if you are in the region.

Amazing, amazing town and castle. Take the trouble to detour there. Park outside the wall or take the drive inside. Be warned, roads are narrow and corners are tight. Not for the feint hearted.
Cheryl Theunissen — Google review
Of all the castles in Portugal, this one has to be one of the highlights for me. The views from walking the castle walls are spectacular, given the height of the castle over the surrounding area. Just imagining what it must have been like to build this castle on such a mountainous height hundreds of years ago really makes you appreciate human ingenuity and engineering.
It was also nice to see the cistern still collects some water today and hasn't been converted into some other use as is common with other castles in the country -- if it weren't for some terrible visitors throwing their junk into the water, you can actually see how clear the water remains. The small garden outside of the entrance to the castle is also quite picturesque and reminded me of the fancy gardens you see in TV shows set in medieval times.

The Forte de Nossa Senhora da Graça is an 18th-century pentagonal fortress situated on a hill, which offers panoramic views of Elvas and even Badajoz in Spain. The fort has been restored, and many parts have been refurbished to welcome visitors into most areas. It contains historical exhibits such as wall paintings and furniture that transport visitors back to the early/mid-20th century and before. Entry is free, making it a worthwhile destination for tourists visiting Elvas.
Beautiful fort, only about a 4-5 minute drive from the aqueduct parking. We arrived early in the afternoon on a Saturday and there was only a few other people there. Interesting history and well worth the time it takes to visit.
Brisippus — Google review
The Forte da Graça, built in the second half of the 18th century by the Count of Lippe, is located on Monte da Graça, one of the highest points in the region and a place of great strategic importance, which allowed the completion of the defensive circuit of Elvas . Affiliated with the Dutch method of fortification, the building complex is formally divided into two parts: the exterior works and the main body, consisting of a magisterial enclosure and a central stronghold. Protected by the remaining lines of defense, the central stronghold consisted of an octagonal tower, with vaulted floors, where there was a chapel on the ground floor, a cistern in the underground space and the Governor's House on the upper floors. After a period of abandonment, Forte da Graça, along with the other fortified structures in Elvas, was classified as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2012, undergoing restoration works.
Alexandre Alves — Google review
A very interesting fort to visit in Portugal -- probably one of the better ones in the country in terms of size, complexity, and recent usage. Be careful to avoid the spots of rat and bird droppings when exploring the underground tunnels (they're very visible but somehow are always in the middle of the hallways) to avoid stirring up any potential hazardous dust. The old housings for the officers at the corners of the fort are still in relatively good shape / not completely in disrepair, and make for some interesting exploring of nooks and crannies if you're willing to spend just a few more minutes at the fort. Lots to explore here overall and getting lost in the central building and imagining what it must have been like to live and defend the fort during the wars with Spanish armies.

I didn't see it with a guide, but if they were available I'd choose that since the fortress is just too huge and surely filled with history that you can't grasp by just reading the signs which in my opinion were lacking some information.

I came to this fort over 10 years ago and it was almost an abandoned landmark. Now it has been restored and many of its parts refurbished in order to welcome visitors in most areas. It was a beautiful viewpoint over Elvas and even Badajoz in Spain. There are a number of historical details like wall paintings and furniture that give a historical travel back to the early / mid-20th century, and even before that. Entry is free so definitely worth a visit if you stop at Elvas.
The Alcazaba of Badajoz is a historic citadel that served as a crucial control point between the Castilian plateau, Portugal, and Andalusia. Dating back to the Almohad period, it was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931. The fortress features several towers and gateways surrounding an archaeological museum and gardens.
Really fun to explore. Doesn’t feel touristy at all. I think there were only two people exploring this lovely spot the morning f I was there. All the I information about the history of the Alcazaba is in Spanish, Portuguese, and English.

The view here is quite breathtaking. This castle is one of UNESCO’s world heritage and it is situated in a high place where you can view the whole landscape, walk through the streets back to the square, see the Miradouro, get a glimpse of beautiful plants (I actually loved the way the locals use recycled plastics as flower vases) and I saw the biggest sunflower ever. Elvas Castle features sturdy city walls, a moat and the castle are evidence of how this has always been considered a strategic border town. Elvas, in fact, was of great importance for Portugal’s independence especially in the conflicts against Spain during the 17th century. The city also long served as General Wellington’s base during the Napoleonic Wars.(fr:@timecapitales)
Looming high over the arid countryside, approximately 3km north of town, stands a formidable old military fort with a commanding presence. From the castelo, the fort is visible on a distant hillside. In 2015, the fort underwent partial restoration, allowing visitors to explore its thick-walled corridors and gain insight into the past. Guided tours in English are available, providing an immersive experience of the fort's history (call ahead to arrange a tour).
The fort offers stunning views of Elvas and the surrounding countryside. The strategic location of the fort played a crucial role in the wars with Spain, as it was used as an artillery point to attack the besieged city of Elvas in the 1650s and again in the 1760s.
Following the latter conflict, Dom José I ordered the construction of this powerful fortified bastion, which proved to be a masterpiece of military architecture. It successfully withstood subsequent attacks in the early 1800s, thanks in part to its 144 cannons. The fort later served as a political prison until 1974. One of the fort's most striking features is the main entrance, the Porta do Dragão (Dragon Gate), which features a carved stone dragon over the passageway.(fr:@history inmemes)

Amazing view. The ticket costs 2 Euros, so it's worth taking some pictures of the city. The castle is small.

The Paço Ducal de Vila Viçosa, located in the town of Terreiro do Paco de Vila Vicosa, is a 16th century palace and museum with richly decorated rooms that showcase collections from different eras. The building has an interesting facade covered in marble from the region and contains features typical of civil and residential architecture as well as Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical and Qing Chinese porcelain.
The Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa was for many centuries the seat of the house of Braganza. The construction of the current palace began in 1501 and was expanded together with the rising importance of the family, as they grew closer connected to the Royal family of Portugal. During the invasion by Napoleon, the Royal family fled to Brazil and the palace was closed. The last extentions of the palace were done by the last King of Portugal, Don Carlos I. After the revolution of 1910 the palace was again abandoned, only to be opened to the public again in 1984 after restoration works. The interior of the palace is still with the original decorations and is lavishly decorated with Azulejos, frescos, tapesteries, furniture, paintings and porcelain. Although the guided visit is only possible in Portuguese, it do is a must if you visit the region. No photo of the interior are allowed.

The place is certainly beautiful...It has a lot of history...Tours are done in Portuguese...Staff are friendly...However after living 6 years in Portugal and visiting many historical places...I was let down by the tour itself...Too dark to enjoy the articles of history...There is no electricity for guest...but you have wired cameras and smoke detectors, no? There are many other places in Portugal to visit with Luz...I found the tour of Marble a good value and a better return on my investment...Resident Cowboy and supporter of the economy of Portugal since 2016...

The palace is definitely worth the visit and do not miss the Ming and Qing Chinese porcelain exhibition!

Amazing place full of history and art . The visit is well worth the price but you might need to wait a bit so they can have a group between 10-20 people to start the visit.

This is an amazing way to see how the former Portuguese Royal Family lived... the Palace was their full time home before the Noble Family was promoted to Royal Family, several centuries back!
It then became their holiday home!
It is also notable the furniture and tapestries, as well as silk covered walls of the certain rooms, where the wealth of the Portug8ese Empire is reflected.
The tour guides in the Palace privide an excellent description of each room, its use, and some stories of its occupats, which were connected to said rooms, or certain furniture pieces!
It is a window into a world of Privilege, but certainly also helps us undrrstand the Portuguese Culture and Traditions of today, and the Spirit of this great People...
(May I add a political comment: unfortunately, the great Portuguese people have been VERY POORLY represented by its greedy politicians...! In those days, our Leaders kept our people and the interests of the country first!).

You can’t tour alone. We arrived at 12:20 am - hours it is open, but couldn’t go in because it is tour only. Next tour in 2 hours. When we asked where we could have lunch and wait, we got a shrug of the shoulders and a”find something yourself “ response.

We did not make a tour inside because we arrived late. However the exterior is outstanding with the marble finish. The place whole place looks amazing.

It was a grate Palace to be seen. Now they close most of the areas. The entrance is 7 euros but if you want to see the carriage extra 3 euros. I think is not good we go to a place is to see all. Before we pay one only ticket. From the 1st visit pass some years but these experience was bad. We cannot take any photos inside the Palace. Is time the foundation take care of the Palace should improve the experience of the visitors.

Monsaraz Castle is a fortified medieval village with panoramic views of the surrounding valley. It is considered a open sky museum, with three bastions and surrounded by a stone wall of schist and granite.
We came across this castle by chance. What a fantastic find. Recommend for a walk around the town which won't take long (1 hour). Views are unbelievable in every direction. The whole village is beautiful and picturesque.

Perry cool place. The entire village within the walls is quite charming. Small shops and excellent little restaurants. You can spend a few hours walking around the shops, taking in the views, then settle in for some food and libations.

Very high up on the mountain is this nice castle that we went to. A lot of it is sightseeing, but you really get to see all of the old buildings and etc. It seems like they were fixing things up or remodeling things, which is a good thing. Otherwise, there's not much else to do but as always very cool!

I loved the view. This castle has 4 towers and each of them has a different view. The town and the sea were my favorite. I was a bit scare of the stairs tho so I hope they change them. We were the only visitors there so we managed to take many photos. Actually the whole town was amazing. There are human sized figures everywhere that symbolize the history of this town. It's 2:30 hours away from Lisbon but it's free to visit. You will find restaurants and cafe there but make sure to check their working hours online first.

Monsaraz is a tranquil hill top village with astounding views across the extensive plains and reservoir - visit and you'll want to stay all day and drink in its calm and peaceful culture, in September access was no issue with the village glowing in the afternoon sun and idyllic architecture.

A very pleasant morning visit to this beautiful town housed within the Monsaraz Castle. Picturesque photos all over. Not spectacular but such a comfortable vibe to walk around for a good half an hour

You are allowed to walk throughout the castle and walls. Stunning views of the lakes. Lot of parking.
Bruce The Vermonter — Google review
Free entry to the castle grounds and walking about the structure is mostly unrestricted, which lets you get a better feel of the castle building and what it would've been like in the past. The actual inside building in the main tower was blocked off although it didn't take away much from the entire experience. Amazing views from all sides of the castle. Small description board at the entrance is all you get in the way of information, although the view is likely what people are most interested in.

While we went at a quiet time of year, it was really calming to just wander the streets, alleyways, and shops. There were so many beautiful overlooks and we really enjoyed our time!

An attractive small whitewashed town with an information centre just inside the gates. Plenty of small carparks up at the town level so you don't have to climb the hill in the heat. A free castle at the end of the village where the centre was converted into a bull ring many years ago. You need to take care on some of the walls but not too bad as there are also metal steps.
Ann Wells — Google review
Simple castle with free access with a stunning view on Monsaraz and the surrounding area, dominant the lake. Be careful because some passages and stairs are not secured and very safe.

After seeing Marvao castle just a few days earlier I was a little disappointed. The views from the castle are fantastic, but the castle itself has been transformed into a bull fighting ring and it is not very big, there is not much to see. I enjoyed walking around the town more than visiting the castle.

The Herdade do Esporao Restaurant is a prestigious establishment situated in an estate with a rich historical background. Renowned for its exceptional quality wines, this eatery is located in the heart of Reguengos de Monsaraz, where it benefits from the region's well-balanced and enticing wines. The restaurant exudes luxury and offers a lavish dining experience that delights the senses.
STELLAR food experience. Highly recommended to start with the wine tour and then a lunch reservation (email them and they sort it all out for you). The chef, his team, and sommelier have impeccable attention to detail. This is a meal we will forever remember. The wine pairings were outstanding. Couldn't have been better.

Lovely modern setting for wine tasting on this 1267 farm. Selection of wines , olive oils and vinegars is impressive. Cheese and meat platter available or meals in the Michelin star restaurant. Outdoor area under Wisteria for tasting and charcuterie. Friendly service and lovely shop with good selection of wines, olive oils and wines.

Our experience was simply unforgettable. The cellars were quite impressive. But the best part--you have to do this--was having lunch at their restaurant. What a wonderful tasting menu! They change it every time, though, because they use only the freshest available. And speaking of freshness, we had THE best tomato salad ever. We will never forget how it looked and tasted with beautiful and different organic tomatoes, and an exquisite lemon touch! Worth the visit! Note: we went back in 2019. ;)

My family came for lunch for my 50th birthday and I could not have asked for a more sublime and special day. The food and wine were incredible, the service so professional, friendly and attentive, but subtle, and the location beautiful. Every single detail was spot on. We found it to be unbelievable value for money too. I really can’t recommend it highly enough!

Great place, very good service and tour, Natalia from Ukraine and her sister were very nice like were the Portuguese colleagues. Even though the restaurant was closed (do reserve well in advance for once it opens back up around July 10th) we really enjoyed the tapas style lunch, the wines and the scenery. We did a wine tour, tasting, and an olive oil tasting, too. Worth while. One of the most lovely wineries I've been around the world. Highly recommended!
