The Interpretation Center Pedras Parideiras offers a stunning natural landscape with breathtaking surroundings. Visitors can witness the impressive cascata da frecha da Mizarela, which is approximately 70m high, making it the highest mainland Portugal waterfall. This geological phenomenon is incredibly rare and unique, as there are no other known places in the world where biotitic nodes are embedded in granite rock formations and eroded over millions of years to leave distinctive shapes on the rocks.
Amazing landscape and surroundings, you can see the highest mainland Portugal waterfall from there (cascata da frecha da Mizarela, ca. 70m high). The geological phenomenon per se is quite unusual.. I don't think there's another place in the world where this happens: there are some biotitic nodes inlayed in the granite rock formations that over millions of ears are eroded away, leaving the form on the rock. There is also the myth that the nodes themselves are a totem to getting pregnant. That's probably why no one is to be seen, only the concave void on the rocks. Potassium argon dating methods give an estimated age between 320 and 310 million years.

Interesting but overly hyped calving stones. Sure, an interesting phenomenon but clearly not as old as claimed. Everything centered around the stones when they could do so much more by talking about regions flora & fauna, adding other regional information, etc. Nice views.
Fritz Finkenstein — Google review
For a UNESCO site, it feels somewhat abandoned and there's not much info around it either.
Beautiful views from Serra da Freita and interesting to see the stones, definitely a nice place for hikers. Just a shame it's a bit neglected.
Bia Silva — Google review
Beautiful site to see Pedras Parideiras. The guide was very knowledgeable and explained everything at the center. Totally advise to visit
Tiago Martins — Google review
Beautiful landmark! The stones are really cool and the view is beautiful. Do yourself a favour and stop here and at the other lookouts
Daniel Grundtvig — Google review
You have to see it. It's an unique phenomeno in the whole world. There's an office where they explain to you everything about it. You won't see nothing like that anywhere. Amazing.
Victor Ventura — Google review
The place is very interesting, however, there’s not enough informative support on site. It would be interesting if there’s some samples people could see and touch about these phenomenon. The small shop seems to be a place where the friends of the person in charge gather and tourists don’t feel comfortable inside due and leave as soon as possible.
Popular sandy beach with a promenade, oceanside eateries & a stretch of grassy dunes.
Best gay beach in the north, just park your car in the most north part of Furadouro beach & walk beside the camping area about 1km north.
Don’t dirty the beach, clean after your self, clean whatever you find on the beach on your way out, & have fun.

A place for amazing hikes in the winter and an amazing beach in the summer.

Generally clean. Windy, medium to big waves (good for surf). Very cold water. For those that don't know the sea, can be dangerous. Please respect the flag system (red - don't get into the water; yellow - caution; green - safe for baths). During high season there are lifeguards on the watch. Parking can be really difficult on hot days and peak times. Good access to the sand (even for wheelchairs ou strollers), however, you may have to walk a little (5 min) to get to where you want to go. Amazing sunsets!

Very nice Atlantic Beach. Restaurants are nice mainly on the South end of the beach

Not particularly impressed by this beach. Was quite foggy. Perhaps it's not the best time of the year, but it didn't pass me such a great willingness of staying for more than a couple of photos.
Termas de São Pedro do Sul is the largest spa in the Iberian Peninsula and a popular destination for thermal treatment, physiotherapy, and wellness. Reputable doctors increasingly recommend thermal treatment over medication. The spa offers various treatments including the Aqva Circuito Termal with a relaxing massage, thermal pools with jets, sauna, and steam rooms. The historical baths date back to Roman times and have been frequented by emperors seeking treatment.
Steamy fun in beautiful surroundings
The age old thermal baths in Sâo Pedro dates back to Roman times. Here emperors and those wishing to be treated as emperors have come for centuries without being disappointed. All though of a more recent date than the original baths, the flying faucet adds a humorist twist to the experience

VERY DISAPPOINTING. I called before arriving to get all the information but the receptionist couldn’t speak English. My daughter was really excited about going there so we decided that the 2 hour drive would be worth it. Getting there - again not possible to get information in English. We were asked to get back 2 hours later so we did. (Still hoping it would be worth it) Entrance for 2 is €85 including massage +€10 for swim caps. They refused giving my 12 year old daughter massage (even though it would be together with me and the therapist was female) They also refused lowering the price for her even though she wouldn’t enjoy the whole package.. But at this point after driving for 2 hours and waiting for 2 hours to get assistance in English we couldn’t not go…
I thought it would hopefully be high quality facilities.
The massage treatment was good, but:
- The bathrobes didn’t have belts
- The towels were stained
- The lockers were impossible to open and close
- The water in the (one) pool was luke warm
- There are only 2 showers in the dressing room so you’ll have to wait.
Basically my daughter paid €42 to swim in a luke warm pool for 20 minutes (with 3 points of jet massage)
Facilities not very attractive - absolutely no pampering feeling justifying the price.

Lovely visit to the Thermal Spa. Make sure you book in advance by calling or popping in as they get busy especially on a weekend. We opted for the Aqva Circuito Termal with a deep and relaxing massage. In total it cost €75 per person. We got an hour in the thermal pool with jets, sauna and steam room. The massage was relaxing and the staff were lovely and spoke good English. The place wasn’t crowded we went on a Friday Afternoon there was one other couple in there. Skin felt really soft after. The town was nice to walk around and the walk along the river is lovely. Recommend a visit.

An amazing hidden little gem, this thermal spa town is really spending alot of money its infrastructure with new and updated hotels and gardens, some nice traditional cake shops, good coffee shops and restaurants, great place for a relaxing break.

The place is fine but a little bit limited. We expected more sulfuric water given it's everywhere outside in fountains but didn't really see it inside. There are no cold baths either which would be nice after the sauna and all the heat in the pool.

Not worth the drive. Worst massage ever. Only open from 11h - 19h. The entire town is scary geriatric.

A beautiful place for an interesting visit. Up close and personal with the art works in the museum. A lot of history in the car museum and they also have a collection of motorcycles from the first types to modern times. A good place for a visit on a rainy day
Deirdre Lee — Google review
Stunning car collection, although it's not the largest one I've seen and I wouldn't drive 5 hours just to see it.
The cars on display are worth seeing, and there's something for everyone. There is also a small art section with paintings... it's worth taking a look. And there's a room dedicated solely to toy cars and collectibles. Everything is well-maintained and spotless. The short drive (10 minutes) to the second part of the museum is worth it. It's not a massive complex, but it was still very interesting to see how the vintage cars are restored.

Lovely setting, range of things to see, spotlessly clean, lots of space, fabulous views on way up the mountain. Interesting artefacts, vehicles and artwork.
Would be nice to have layout, guide and translation available.
Great visit - thank you.

Lovely place where history of the automotive industry can be seen and felt. There is also a art museum as well as an experience center where one can see the detailed work involved in car renovation. Something I really enjoyed was seeing the small matchbox and other collections.

A must go for any car enthusiast. Also has a rare (large) section of vintage toys and art section. Together with its classic cars experience center this museum is a rare jewel. Definitely a place to visit.

Incredible collection of old and modern cars.
The Lamborghini exhibition is beautiful.
Definitely worth to visit if your in Portugal.
If you're a huge fan of cars I recommend getting the ticket that let's you visite Museo the Caramulo and Caramulo experience center where you can see even more cars and how they are restoring old legendary cars.
Martí Maas — Google review
A wonderful museum! Spent 2 hours there before going on to the Motor Experience. Suitable for all ages. A large exhibit of Dinky toys and similar, lead soldiers and similar. Rooms of interesting articles, porcelain, tapestries, furniture, some religious artifacts. Several rooms of superb art works. The ethos is quality not quantity and it really shows. Then a second building of vintage cars and bikes. Staff were very friendly, helpful and had some English. Most of the labeling was in both Portuguese and English.
Barbara Traveller — Google review
This is a gem of a museum hidden in the heavily forested central region of Portugal. Surrounded by roads from all directions of the country that are a car or bike lovers' dream.
If you are coming from Agueda, the old road is littered with hundreds of corners. Road condition a little degraded in parts but nothing my 35 profile 19inch wheels had any trouble with.
Do the full museum experience that will take you 2-3 hours and then explore the area around Tondela and head to Quinta do Cabriz restaurant for more stunning roads and a great lunch at the restaurant on the Cabriz winefarm.
Milton Vieira — Google review
An unusual museum, combining an excellent art collection (with works from different epochs, including paintings by Vieira da Silva, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali) with the most important collection of cars and motorbikes in Portugal, from different eras and makes. Its current temporary exhibition is dedicated to the Lamborghini sports cars. In the photo, the Ford Model T, the car that marked the invention of assembly lines for car production.
Antonio Dias de Figueiredo — Google review
Has a very interesting collection of a variety of classic cars.
It has an exemplary of Ford T, phantom III and qnd unique in the world De-Dion Bouton that is able to carry 10 passengers, being the longest ad biggest in the world.
It also has the 3 cars that belong to Salazar, being that one of those he used for 23y.
It is worth a visit!

A great museum to visit in a rather unexpected place!!! If you love cars and motorbikes this is a place to visit! Loved the super cars exhibition!
Aveiro Station, also known as Estacao Ferroviaria de Aveiro, is a modern central train station located near the city center. It operates daily with various timetables for Alfa Pendular, Intercity, Regional, Suburban, and Vouga Regional trains. The new design of the station stands in contrast to the old azulejo-decorated building nearby. There are plans to convert the classic structure into a museum or regional information office.
This station is a gem and beautifully preserved. The classic tiles and very clean, fresh paint make this a very attractive sight. The train operations were very good, the directions to the trains easy to follow even if you do not speak Portuguese. It made my visit from Porto easy and pleasant.
Gary Rogers — Google review
The ancient train station is very beautiful, the wall fresco's tells a lot about the town and its history. The small shop that's inside the station got all sorts of souvenirs. From local wines to specialty snakes.
Liban DUALE — Google review
The stations toilets are Pay to Pee. I am not paying 3 euros in Atm fees just to get 50 cents so I can pee. Add the fact that the train is 40 minutes late.
Amazing how Salazar still influences Portugal after so many years

Aveiro railway station is very small. However, while driving around the town we stopped by it, as the beautiful facade caught our eye.
Very nice composition of Portugal's blue-white Azulejos tiles adorn the main building.

Although, there is a modern train station at Aveiro in use, the old more than 100 year old station building still stands and duly preserved. The old station is having beautiful tile paintings on its wall. It is no less than any other historical building. It is worth watching its tile work. Lovely station.
Praveen Mehrotra — Google review
Clean and modern station, there is a cafe and toilets for which you pay, am not sure how much but make sure you have change.Information boards are plentiful plus announcements in Portuguese and English. I hope this helps.
Chester Draws — Google review
I'm not a big fan of this train station at all to be honest. The space is open, so it's always cold, but it still smells very bad there. Hygiene is clearly not a priority at this establishment. The trains are generally on time. Also there is free parking in the back and a bus station.
Alexandre Gala — Google review
The station is quite far from the city center. I walked from University of Aveiro to the station around 45 minutes.
I did not see much sign to go to the station. I opened google maps to make sure that I am in a correct direction.
The station is quite big and clean. You can find information from the worker. The schedule is easy to find for your trip.
They provide hand sanitizer for the customers. Do not for get to wear your mask before entering the station.
Rita — Google review
The station itself was nice especially the original parts. The only problem was the train operation went on strike at noon, stranding people who were heading elsewhere.
Newt Mignott — Google review
If you need to take the train show up at least an hour to find parking after 9am. Completely ridiculous that the city values caravan parking over commuters. It is not fair that students and workers need to waste an excessive amount of time to find parking because the city rather have caravan parking spaces, and even then they still abuse these privileges by taking up two regular spaces. Its basically a shanty town at this point in the parking lot.
Forum Aveiro is a charming retail complex that boasts classic stone architecture and over 70 stores, as well as a food court. What sets it apart is its open shop concept, making it easy to find big brands within the mall. The location is easily accessible via Google Maps, with nearby bars along the river providing a perfect spot for coffee or drinks while enjoying the view.
Very nice airy shopping center. It is good to walk there so much you think you are in the city. Excellent choice of materials to blend in with the decor. The space is very well maintained and it is super clean. On the ground floor you have the shops and upstairs you have the catering. To do without hesitation if you are in town 👍🏼
The ribbons on the roof make it very cozy
Jonathan Cruz Sequeira (Cruzibabe) — Google review
Centrally located shopping mall with a good selection of stores and places to eat. The architecture is carefully thought through so that the place fits in well in the surroundings. You can admire the cityscape from the outside of the top floor, there are trees planted all over and the shopping alleys are partially outside. The mall is nicely decorated during Xmas time.
Kama Winnik — Google review
It's a beautiful and quite big mall in the middle of Aveiro. You find the regular stores here but for me the catch is the buildings, the decoration and the fact that it is an outdoor Mall which you do not find that often.
Being an outdoor Mall there are of course also problems coming along. Since it is quite hot in the summer the stores without air condition, which were the majority, are quite hot inside which makes looking for clothes and trying them on relatives uncomfortable rarely quick.
If you are around, it is definitely worth the stroll!
You can park directly underneath the mall. It took about 15 minutes to get into the parking garage though because of traffic jams inside the garage.
Fabian V — Google review
Average, it looked way bigger on the outside than the actual offering of the stores once we took a walk inside..

Amaizing walks around to see the chanel river and the boats like a little Venice , colourful, a lot of choices to buy and enjoy good food

Cool place to rest in Aveiro. Quite varied restaurants and good cafes. However, few improvements are required in the babies room, e.g. easier door to open (if you have a stroller)
Motaz Ayiad — Google review
The Forum is a modern mall in an old building. Just by side of the canal, there could not have been a better place for it. Many upscale brands exist on ground floor and a good food court with multi cuisine restaurants exists on the first floor. There is enough activity to pass time and enjoy a walk by the side of canal
Praveen Mehrotra — Google review
The shopping mall is quite unique for their concept to be open shop. You can easily find big brands here in the shopping mall. The location is very easy to find by google maps. There are some bars nearby if you want to have a coffee or drinks. They are located near the river. You can sit around and enjoy the view after doing your things.

A little hidden, rather difficult access, but large beach with soft sand. Not too many visitors.
Praia da Costa Nova is a picturesque stretch of beach with colorful painted striped houses, situated on a narrow strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Ria de Aveiro lagoon. The area offers opportunities for long walks, surfing and other beach activities. Though crowded during peak season, it holds charm in the off-season when there are fewer tourists, making it an amazing destination to visit. However, swimming may not be ideal due to strong winds.
Idillic beachside town with the cutest design along the Costa Nova. There is a phenomenal wooden walking path along the coast for taking a scenic stroll. The weather was still quite enjoyable in mid October at 23/25 C during the day.

Beautiful sandy beach
Long coast over 9km so plenty of space
Take your own towel , umbrella as there are no rental options there .
The water is cold with high waves so its fun for playing but not for swiming .
The only issue with place is showers & toillets as they are far and with lineup and can use more cleaning !
Regarding food there are resturants and you will notice drinks & sweets sellers walking around the beach selling different stuff .

Lovely when out of season. In late Oct there was almost no one on the beach. Warm but a bit windy, ideal for long walks and surfing; not for swimming though. Almost everything is closed bar a couple of places which gives it charm. Not sure I'd enjoy it as much in summer; no shade and a lot of tourist rental signs which suggests large crowds in season.

We only stayed here for couple of hours. It is 3h: 29 minutes from Lisbon to Costa Nova and 24,40€ toll each way. It was a sunny day and the travel was fine. The is a beach ( Praia da barra ) which we only walked pass but nice place to take some pictures . Specially the colourful houses that catches everyone’s attention. Good visit.

A little bit overrated. In every article about the Porto Region it is recommended to go there because of the Pyjama houses. If you Pass the main street you See them. If you step out there is not really much more to Visit
I think it is a nice place to Pass holidays in this village because it has a nice surrounding. The nice beach for surfing on the westside, the lagoon for several kinds of other (water) sports

A Great exhibition with a lot of fascinating paleontologic wonders and world’s treasures, it was all well explained by our tour guide and at the end we tasted some of the wines from local baga grapes and sangrias:) It’s worth seeing for sure. We would love to hear more about minerals and the African part of the exhibition, it was too short to take a look of every fine bit of it. Wonderful experience, thank you!

Why not get the visibly bored girls in your wine shop to do some degustations? Can’t be that difficult to sort out a corkscrew and learn a few lines about each bottle, is it? Win win for everyone - clients happy, wine sold and the name of the region is becoming known to ever more people.
Instead the reception is lukewarm, the girls seem to be the first day in their job and the prevailing sense that Bacalhoa still hasn’t decided what business they are in, can’t escape me. I would like to come back to see the art but somehow I lost interest. Seems also a duplication of what’s I. Buddha Eden.

We had such a lovely tour here, we had a fantastic young guide, who spoke very good English and knew her history. Also about the collection of artifacts that they have there. Its not just a wine Tour. Well worth a visit if you like history. €8 was for a guided tour, taste the sparkling wine and some lovely little bread rolls with the famous pork.
Jackie Lyons — Google review
It’s not a museum where you learn and wander to discover: it’s an extravagant accumulation of artifacts, from minerals to fossils to traditional African arts to an edifying exhibit about Gandhi. You are rushed through tunnels and rooms stuffed with all these things with little context and no time to absorb and appreciate, despite the capable tour guide’s best efforts. It’s not a testimony of our planet’s and its peoples’ heritage; it’s rather more evidence of greed and possession, under the disguise and excuse of sharing by showing off. Worth a visit just to understand the scope of the problem.

Goncalo Costa was an excellent tour guide, he spoke fluent English and cares about history and sharing it with others. If life allows the opportunity, would love to visit again!

The Fado ao Centro is a venue in Coimbra that offers live music in the form of fado. The performers are students and former students of the University of Coimbra, who offer beautiful songs with a melancholic accent that is an integral part of Portuguese culture. The venue is situated at the heart of the cultural centre, making it one of the best places to explore Portuguese culture.
Great performance by both students and older musicians. Small, cozy intimate venue. Friendly staff. Port sample after. A highlight of Coimbra.

we LOVED it! I thought the music would all be extremely sad, but it wasn't. Some of it was melancholic, some was even cheerful, and all of it was so beautiful! The venue was cozy and the singers and musicians were awesome. At the end we even got a little treat of delicious port wine.

Very different Fado experience to the usual dinner and Fado nights. Very intimate setting, performed by students and former students, true to tradition only men, accentuated by black and white footage of student life and Fado history. Very well done.

I got stranded in this alley with my now Wife in 2008. We walking this narrow walkway up to find a live concert outside of this street. The street itself was crowded, filled with tables from the different locals, and every local was serving food and drinks to their respective tables. We spent the evening there, and when the tables got cleaned, and the band stopped playing, the shops were still open. It was way past midnight. I'll admit that I'mm not sure this was the exact local then, but it's where the magic happened in this street.

A very pleasant Fado experience.
I had a great time watching the fado show with it’s gentle music and singing.
They also give you the background of fado and you end up with a glass of port at the end.
It is reasonably priced too.

The perfect introduction to one of the most lovely traditions of Portugal. Fado ao Centro is a respectfully designed concert experience that creates a micro-space of culture, history and music where you can totally feel, at least for a bit, how it was to be around in Coimbra on those "golden years" of Fado. Recommendable, and if you are into music, mandatory.

The Fado ao Centro is a music school and a well-known house of the typical Fado from Coimbra. It invites visitors to witness the open rehearsals that happen daily at 4 p.m. The live concerts are every afternoon at 6 p.m.
Reservations are recommended.
The house also accepts appointments for performances for 8 or more people.

My husband and I bought tickets online for Fado ao Centro after walking by during our visit to Coimbra, and running at just under an hour the performance was really charming and was a great addition to our trip. The performers not only sang and performed well, but they also shared a brief history of Coimbra style Fado. All of the narration was in português and English. I highly recommend checking this place out!

Coimbra University, a multi-disciplinary institution with centuries-old structures and botanical gardens, is renowned worldwide as a World Heritage Site. It stands among the oldest universities globally and boasts an exceptional library, gifted by King Joao V in the early 1700s. This remarkable collection of 300,000 books is elegantly showcased amidst an opulent display of gold leaf.
Great Acts Room
This space is the most important room at the University of Coimbra. It was the former Throne Room and, between 1143 and 1383, was the home of the kings of the 1st Portuguese dynasty. In it, important episodes in the History of Portugal took place, such as the acclamation of King D. João I, in 1385. With the installation of the University in the Palace, this space became the main room of the University of Coimbra, as it is here that the most important ceremonies of academic life.
The current configuration of this room results from the renovation that was carried out in the mid-17th century. The walls were covered with wainscoting of “carpet type” tiles, made in Lisbon. The ceiling, with 172 wooden panels, features grotesque motifs (representing sea monsters, Indians, mermaids, plants).

someone very close to me used to say this, Portugal will be a great place without the Portuguese ppl. University of Coimbra has beautiful buildings with astonishing history, great students with studious attitude and desire to experience life, but some senior staffs (at least to my experience) can be a tiny little.bit of conservative and old fashioned. I understand why they reacted this way when a person speaking to them a language they did not understand. But still, a tiny smile wouldn't hurt. ok, I know 99.99% of Portuguese are lovely, especially the young ones, but still, for my psychological health, I need to rant~
Lucy Ting — Google review
I mean it is made of different massive buildings and it looks really nice. There is a great history behind it. The only thing is that some parts of the university are subject to entrance fee and it sounds not right.

Quite an interesting place to visit, though I had to admit I expected to see more rooms. Some were closed for restoration or not allowed to be seen by tourists, etc. There is a chance to see the library, the chapel and the botanical gardens as well. Definitely see the library- it is the highlight of the tour for sure! One thing that I believe is strange is that you need to buy tickets like 3 blocks away and then walk to the university- what’s the sense? It’s a mystery and inconvenience for sure.
Anya Nura — Google review
Paid museum areas (library and chapel) let down by clock watching staff pushing you to go either faster or slower. Not really sure what the reason was, I see no need for such overly strict enforcement of time. If it’s for covid it’s completely counter intuitive as it squashed everyone together.

Coimbra University is one of the oldest in Europe dating back to late 13 century, and still the biggest one in Portugal.
Visiting it's grounds is the best thing you can do in this town. There're several types of tickets, depending how much you want to see.
We found the basic ticket (around 12 Euros) to be more than sufficient as it includes the Chemical laboratory, University Palace (which served as seat of power in 12-13 c when Coimbra was a capital), as well the astonishing Sao Miguel Chapel and Joanina Library.
BEWARE you cannot buy tickets on the spot at the University square. Tickets for the entire University complex are sold across the Chemical Laboratory which is around the corner of the new Se Cathedral (some 10 min walk from the University square itself). Very illogical, but that's it - do that first to avoid double walking like we did. Count on around 2-3 hours for entire visit.

We had a brief visit at the University of Coimbra. They do have pay toilets. We were able to take a tour of the library. Photos and videos are prohibited inside the library. Please be careful as the rope stantions are very sharp and can snag your clothes. Other than that, it is very beautiful and impressive.

Coimbra university is the oldest and most famous in Portugal. A Unesco heritage site is an absolute must for the visitor. It takes some time to wander around and inside the various buildings. Climbing the stairway up the roof is not for the timid people and gives a wonderful view around the city. The old royal chappel is nice. Nevertheless the jewel in the crown is the old library, Biblioteca Joanina in baroque style. You must book your ticket to it in advance, as you may find it sold out. You also need a guide. I payed 20 euros to join the guided tour at 11am on Sunday. The tour is normally in Portuguese only. As it happened that I was the only tour member(!!) I had the guide to myself and also available for some questions in english. There were several other groups. It takes close to an hour and half to follow any tour. No pictures are allowed in the library but my money was well invested.

What a beautiful university. The buildings are mesmerising. It is located above the hills so we can see Coimbra from the top. Make sure to visit Joanina library because it is so beautiful. One of the most beautiful libraries in the world. You need to buy tickets in advance and there is a timed visit for the library. They only have a guided visit for the library because the library is very old and they want to preserve the interior. Worth to visit.

The university of Coimbra is a university with a long history. There are its school palace, clock tower, university prison, chapel inside. It take functions as an observatory that overlooks the entire city of coimbra, because it was located on a hill. The huge statue of the university's founder in the playground is a sight to see. There are buildings built between 16th and 18th centuries, and students are still studying in those buildings. In particular, the Joania library built in 18th century have many books, gorgeous books bindings, and bookshelves. Those give us a glimpse of how important the king and the country placed books.

This university has wonderful heritage building....very nice architecture with a church and museum. The students are very enthusiastic about guiding throughout the campus. The university has an amazing library also and the structure is very nice. The campus also has a church where all the students can pray. The museum also includes the palace where the king has a court. From the university, one can get the beautiful scenery of Coimbra city and also the beautiful Mondego river.
The Biblioteca Joanina, a magnificent Baroque library constructed in the 18th century and named after its patron King John V of Portugal, is situated within the Paco das Escolas. This opulent establishment lies at the center of Coimbra University, housed in a charming historic edifice. Its interior is simply awe-inspiring; adorned with exotic wood, tasteful embellishments, and exquisite shelving units.
One of the most amazing places I have ever seen. Unfortunately, no pictures allowed! But I have to admit that the library has a jaw-dropping effect :) there are about 60,000 books dating as early as the 15th century! Inside it looks like a palace. And what’s more interesting- at night they let the bats in to kill all the insects, so they cover the furniture.
All pictures are taken in the place before you go into the main room where no pictures are allowed! Before the library you are allowed to see the university prison for about 5-7 min.
You will have about 10 minutes in the main part of the library, which is quite enough to walk around. You need to come specifically at the appointed time (tickets bought in advance and what is strange they are bought like 3 blocks away from the library). If you come earlier you will be allowed to sit on the benches inside and wait for the tour to start.

Biblioteca Joanina is an ornate 17th century Baroque Library. Paid 13 Euro and you have 10-15 mins access, the upper hall was totally unlit and reliant on outside window light - plus all the reading tables were covered with cloth. To top it off - no photos allowed. Totally overpriced.

A library filled with 500 year old books with 3 stories. The main floor is beautiful baroque.
Unfortunately you are not allowed to take photos of the baroque room anymore.
In don't understand the negative reviews.
John M — Google review
It is a beautiful library. Please keep in mind in advance that you cannot take photos when you are inside. A timed entry ticket is required. Please also keep in mind that the first two floors are ONLY steps, not very inclusive in design. I had to ask an info person to a more accessible entrance for a loved with limited mobility to enter on the third floor. I wish this information was available in advance, so come ahead of your booked time.
Smitha Mahesh — Google review
A nice historical library well maintained, preserved with controlled admission and no photography allowed in the main building. It is required to manage, monitor crowds otherwise history will be lost.
Tickets can be purchased online or at one of the ticket centers in the university. Paid parking is available in the university area and nearby.
You have to be at the entrance a few minutes before the scheduled time and not later. Photos are allowed in the first room and not in the main library rooms. Visitors have to respect it and also be mindful of the time allowed inside. The inside architecture is baroque with a royal feel and the woodwork with books from history is amazing to view and preserve in our memories.
This may not be one of the top libraries but definitely a place to visit for anyone who loves books and history
Pradeep Ponnuswamy — Google review
Go to the website, select the time entry to the library and that same ticket will allow you to enter other university buildings. The time entry only applies to the library.
The visit is only 20 minutes. The first 10 minutes is to see the prison chambers and then the overflow of books on the second floor. The second 10 minutes is finally for the main attraction, you can’t take pick tires or videos so absorb as much as you can while you are there.
It’s definitely worth the visit.
Karla Rodríguez — Google review
Nice interior, but unfortunately way too overpriced (13.5€ per person).
Also, you get limited 10mins time inside the library and no photos policy makes it feel a bit too pricey for what you get...

The Juanin Library is considered one of the richest Baroque libraries in Europe. It was built between 1717 and 1728. It is located in the most central part of the University of Coimbra, near Escolas. The building was built to house the university library with a collection of over 300,000 volumes dating from before 1800 and a large collection of the Old Testament. They are launched only in groups of 15-20 people. Starting from the lower floor, where the prison was located and then upstairs. You can't take photos in the library itself.
I recommend you to visit. It is even possible without a guide, as there are information sheets on each floor.
Roman Gravit — Google review
The Joanina Library is an exponent of baroque art. It is considered one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. It was built in the early 18th century by order of King John V, motivated by a request from the University of Coimbra to expand its old library.
Its architecture is generally compared to a temple (secular), to worship Wisdom (also another name to refer to the university). However, this work tells a lot about the greatness of Portugal, as you can see in the interior decoration. Portugal in the early 18th century was a powerful empire spread across the four continents. Its economy shone with the discovery of extensive deposits of gold in the colony of Brazil at the end of the previous century. In this context, generous amounts were invested in the library, which is reflected in all its exuberance.
The library doors open every 20 minutes. In the summer (between the second week of July and the second week of September), there are night visits to the Royal Palace, which includes the library, when it can be seen as it rarely is. Tickets for tours that include the Joanina Library are sold at the General Library building reception.

Very impressive and the most beautiful library I ever been into. However there are minuses (and reasons for the low rating):
- you either buy tickets in advance or walk about a mile to the office to buy them. You only realise it at the place
- they do not allow to take photos in the main hall. Again, you only know it when you start the tour. Though they do allow take photos at the entrance room
- they deleted all previous reviews for many years (by deleting their place on google and then reinstating it) - probably because they did not want the photos to be published. I believe in freedom of information.
So, I reinstated the updated review lowering the rating from previous 4 to current 2 starts. All my photos were taken from the room they allowed to take photos.

Portugal dos Pequenitos is an entertaining and educational theme park that showcases miniature replicas of Portugal's iconic landmarks, as well as those from former Portuguese colonies. Founded in 1938, the park offers a comprehensive tour route featuring famous sites like Igreja de Sao Tiago, Cafe Santa Cruz, Torre de Anto, and Ponte Pedonal Pedro e Ines. It also boasts a small train that adds to the fun for families with young children.
It's a beautiful place to view the architecture of historic buildings in Portugal in a miniature style. This lovely concept allows adults and children to know how the significant landmark buildings in Portugal look and some information about them.
The site is picturesque, with enough space for moving around and enjoying the site. Adults and children can enter the buildings and read more information about the building and its associating attributes.
If you want to ease yourself when pressed, there's a public toilet. Additionally, when you feel hungry or need something to drink, there's a vending machine where you can purchase drinks and snacks.
Overall, it's an excellent place to hang out as a family.

Iv been here 3 times over the past 5 years , took my first then my second Kid , the kids enjoy it , its very well built , it lacks information on the main topical houses , for the fee we pay there should be more . Nonetheless my 3 year old had fun climbing in and out of the miniature houses . The app to identify the houses is not FREE 🤌🏻 not cool!! Maybe get more staff involved and dressed to ocasion on each house , put some explanatory tags on the houses … make it a more enjoyable and fun experience for the guests 👍🏻

The structures where larger than the mini size we expected. There was more to see and it was more enjoyable than I anticipated. Even our 2 children (7 & 1) had fun. We entered just after the place opened, on a Saturday, in Autumn. No waiting. We would haved liked more information about everything we saw. Wear sensible shoes. Walk on one side all the way to the back where young kids can play and then walk back on the other side. Souvenirs were few and very expensive. For us, the professional photo was worth it.

It is better for young kids (2-9 years old). Tickets are quite expensive but you can spend a couple of hours there. Bring your own food as there is no restaurant, bar, just a drinks' small place. There is a play area but quite full. There was also a queue for getting the tickets but didn't take long
The train was not running.

It was a nice experience for my kids (11 and 7 years). They were able to explore the different houses and displays. However, the experience was very one dimensional and quickly became very repetative. If you've seen it once, there's really no need to go back. Also, I don't understand why they cannot post proper signage for each zone/display. Having to use a poorly organized map was needlessly frustrating.
I recommend visiting in the morning hours as it gets very hot and crowded closer to the afternoon. Bathrooms are adequate, there are vending machines with drinks and I believe snacks available and at least two locations sold ice cream.

The Convent of Christ in Tomar, Portugal is a Roman Catholic convent built in the ornate Manueline style and surrounded by 12th-century walls. Formerly the headquarters of the powerful Knights Templar in Portugal during the 12th to 16th centuries, this UNESCO World Heritage site played a significant role in funding the Age of Discoveries.
Was very very interesting and amusing to see this historical building. If you like seeing the architecture and all divisions of historic buildings then this one is a must. Totally worth it for us. Plus you have the Castle walls and garden to walk arround as well.

Fantastic place to visit. A huge erstwhile convent, with high quality renaissance buildings, wonderful ceiling painting, beautiful cloisters, dormitories, kitchens and dining halls. There are also beautiful gardens. There has been good past renovation and this is still on going.
We spent several hours there in a family group aged 4 to 67 and all enjoyed it.
Good café with refreshments available. Small high quality gift shop.

Utterly spellbinding and beguiling what a place. Atop the hill above Tomer is the last refuge in Europe of the Knights Templar . Well worth the €6 to get in the archtecture and history within these walls is jot to be missed . If you are in Portugal this is a must see.

Magnificent Templar structure including a temple, chapter house and castle situated imposingly on a hill overlooking the town of Tomar. The centerpiece of the temple, the octagonal Charola, is particularly stunning even though its colours have faded overtime. Although sadly parts have fallen into ruin, the adjacent chapter house is also impressive with its spiral staircases at either end taking you up to and down from the upper level. The faded facades are also well worth examining.

Amazing place to visit in Tomar. That's a very ancient castle built by templars, and it's huge with a lot of sightseeing spots on the valley below. Totally recommend to go, although bare in mind that you may loose some time in finding a parking spot: it's usually pretty crowded during the summer, and you'll need to pay a small parking bill (1.2€ for one hour and a half)

If you are in Tomar (even if you don’t love history) you must visit the Convent. It is one of the most beautiful places you can visit in Santarem and is steeped in history. You can get a glimpse of where the monks lived in the 15th century, see priceless works of art and marvel at incredible architecture. The Convent is much bigger than what it seems and there are many things to discover, so set aside about 3-4 hours for the complete tour.

Breathtaking. A must see! The cathedral and convent have been under construction for some time... But slowly it's being revealed and it's outstanding!
Parking can be difficult but don't give up and also don't forget to pay. There is a pay station there in the culdesac. Also located there is a nice cafe. A pleasure to take a coffee ☕ break.
Pro tip: Walk around the side of the structure and look for the aqueduct. It is the end 6 km long structure built in the 15th century. :)

Amazing historical experience with monastery cloisters, bakery, cisterns, patios and nice views. Combines different styles and architectural features but the highlight is the church interior. You can see it all in few hours or squeeze it in about an hour or so if you rush through the cloisters and patios.

Spent 3 hours through the cloisters and rooms of this medieval monastery and castle. Worth the trip, with all its intricate art works and functional spaces. The only regret was that the administrating authority could be collecting the tree-laiden orange trees, rather then let them be destroyed by birds or fall off the branches as they ripen😂 maybe cross-feed the cafetaria with free/fresh orange juice. Wasted opportunity 😔

An enigmatic place with almost nine centuries of history.
The most impressive place was the Charola, which was the private oratory of the Knights Templar, inside the fortress.
I strongly advise you to go with a guide, as it makes the experience much more enriching. Otherwise many of the details would be missed.
It was a pity there were several areas under renovation, and some not very well cared for, but overall it was well worth the visit.

Unlike some other convents around PT that are too crowded to enjoy, this one is still not receiving as many tourists so going around feels so much more intimate (and spiritual). Absolutely gorgeous building, putting many other monuments to shame, with dozens of little nooks. Hopefully the areas currently under renovation will be available to visit soon. Would recommend a hike from the Aqueduct to the convent and then on to the castle.

Go back in time and immerse yourself in the mystery around the knights templar. Beautiful view. There was a little roadside stall that was a bar with a little shop / snack table, offering a variety of local treats & baked goods. I got some little lemon sugar muffins / madelines, they were incredible!! So light & moist, and lemony AF! Magic. The view was lovely at the dam and it's really near the most gorgeous swimming lake.

The Sensory Ecopark of Pia do Urso is a stunning natural landscape located just 8 km south of Fatima. It features traditional stone houses that have been recently restored, offering visitors a unique experience in the midst of an Eco Park. The park includes sensory stations with Braille panels, providing an enriching experience, especially for the visually impaired. The spacious parking area and picnic spots make it convenient for visitors to relax and enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
Beautiful place to visit even during raining time ! Just be careful of the wooden steps they are really slippery

Beautiful place, as the village and all the surroundings. The park itself seems to have been absolutely amazing not so long ago, but it already need a bit of an upgrade.

Great little village. I'll have to return when it's a little cooler to complete the sensory walk. I was a little surprised to find that nowhere was open for food and drinks at midday in the middle of June.

Was a lovely place to visit. The parking is big so there's enough space for everyone. There is a picnic area to sit and eat your snacks. The garden is big enough for a nice walk through multiple areas. The village is cute and all made of stonewalls. There are a nice variety of small cafes.

Small stone village, with multiple picnic tables, and a small thematic/sensory trail under the trees. Very pleasant! Worth the small drive and stop! You can take your time and have a few peaceful walks around, stay in b&b, eat at the restaurant or simply come by for quick walk and picnic.

Pia do Urso is a beautiful small village with a friendly bar and a great restaurant.
The park itself is really interesting, there are good signposts and the paths are easy to walk.
I really enjoyed our stay there.

It was quite nice but really not a long round. There were a lot auf families on a Sunday won't recommend going there on weekends. The village was nice though. and you should be able to walk a few steps on uneven ground.
Julia Eberhardt — Google review
I love this spot, specially the houses made of stone, the nature and the pace of life. I just think that unlike when you go to the North of Portugal and visit those little villages, there's no animals roaming around like sheep or goats... It's very lifeless in that sense. It would be nice to see more animals, it would be more authentic.
Nonetheless I would totally recommend coming here to check out the stone houses and wind down from a busy city life.
Tours of the island-bound remains of a Medieval castle on the site of an ancient fortress.
I am passionate about castles and Castelo de Almourol is a must-go.
Right in the center of Tagus River, the imposing castle surprised me with grandeur. It's the perfect scenery to relish a wonderful day. You can go there by train.
Eduarda Duarte — Google review
The webpage suggests that the visit is appointment only. I filled in the form, but has never received any answer. So we called the next day and advised to just come. The boat is actually always there.
The views of the castle are fabulous, I only wish we had better luck with the weather.
The boat ride is about 2 minutes. Ticket is 4 euros. They allow about 45 minutes for the visit, before taking you back.
The castle itself is actually quite small and doesn’t have much to do or see. The information is scarce.
If coming with small kids, watch out for them, as the mural can be potentially dangerous as it is quite narrow and has no rails. Even I was kind of afraid walking there.

Nice place to take pictures. Beautiful landscape.
Understand the charge but not the poor service.
The helmsman and the lady who help him are not at all kind.
One you get to the island barely you have explanation. Prepare to get pushed out from the island after some minute.
The poor logistics make them to force people to rush by the fact of just one boat make the journey.
Don't understand why people can't make the way by themselves by foot

Beautiful and well preserved castle! Make sure to plan your trip as the boat that gets you there is having a break from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

René Van Wijk — Google review
The castle itself is awesome, great view over the river and you get there by boat.
Unfortunately you barely have time to walk around because the boat people impose a ridiculous 40 minute limit on the whole thing and you just don’t have time to enjoy. Unnecessary and very frustrating

A castle built on a river island by the Knights Templars in 1170, for real. The island was given to them by Dom Alfonso Henriques, 1st king of Portugal. The site is well presented, only accessible by boat. Cafe nearby for a cold beer on a warm day.

Well worth a visit, can buy the ticket from the man on the boat, 4€ each. We are going back…fantastic history!

Very nice view of the castle from the harbour. If you wish to visit the castle and the island, be aware of the schedule and frequency of the official boat (summer time it states that goes until 18:30h, but actually when it gets close to 18:00h it is only possible to return from castle to harbour, trips to castle will not be possible).
Caio Haddad Franco — Google review
I had the wonderful experience of meeting the local people, who owe their work to the presence of the castle.
The castle can be reached by boat and you can tour it as much as you want. It is in perfect condition and stands majestically on the banks of the Tagus River.

I love this place. We went as part of a knight templar tour. This was our first stop. I personally enjoyed being in such an old/historic place. It was amazing. The little boat ride to get to the island was cute, and you got to see the fortress from great angles. Climbing to the top gave a great view of the area. I recommend going with a guide so you can get the history of the place. Otherwise you'll miss out on great information about the place.

Almourol Castle
Time waiting: 5 min in my case [up to 40 min max]
Time spent: 40 min
Price: 4 EUR [boat, castle, museum - Centro Cultural de Vila Nova da Barquinha]
Reservation: small groups do not need
Parking: available
Bike parking: not available
WC: in the local restaurant
Tickets: sold by the boat owner
Turns: +/- every 40 min
[!]Not suitable for disabled people
The Castle of Almourol is a medieval castle located 4 kilometers from Vila Nova da Barquinha. The castle was part of the defensive line controlled by the Knights Templar, and a stronghold used during the Portuguese Reconquista.
During the summer the water level is low, but it is not recommended due to safety reasons passing the river on your own. But there is a motorized boat, so you can get to the castle for 4 EUR. The time of boat trip is just 5 min and you may enjoy the view of the castle from different sides. The castle is small, so you need 30-40 min to see everything. The closest town is Tancos, 2 km away, so the place is extremely quiet.
How to get there?
a)By car. There is a free parking
b)By bike [30 min from Entroncamento]
c)By train. From the Almourol station 10 min walk.
[!] Visits are not possible during the flood or any other critical weather conditions.

Very nice place to see, unfortunately you can only visit during certain months since you have yo go on a boat to vet to the castle. You can also go around (10mn car trip) and check a viewpoint from the other side of the castle. The area surrounding the castle seems a little sketchy, paper factories and wood/paper production zone and the Tancos military zone makes this a very specific area... anyway its worth to see
Pedro Gaipo — Google review
Pretty cool castle. Not huge, but enough the be worth the visit. You take a small boat over for €4 and it'll give you some nice views for pics. You can then walk up to the castle for some beautiful views of the Targus River. There's also a small restaurant overlooking the river when done to refresh.

I LOVE guided tours! My wife and I took one (8+ hour tour) from Lisbon to Tomar, this castle a church i will comment on and had an awesome time! Like normal, it was hot and I do not deal with heat very well (to say the least)! Side point.... get a decent neck fan if you are sensitive to heat and get stifled by a lack of breeze like me!

The castle is really pretty, amazing view of the river and it's surroundings. However, there are a few unprotected areas that can be dangerous (i had trouble going there, being afraid of highs and no rail to hang on). Also, the boat trip there is pricey (4€). There's only one boat, so you have to wait (not long, the trip is less than 5 min, which again makes me wonder why its so expensive).

An interest salt mining location in the center of the country. It is not big and can be crowded on weekends. It has some parkings and places to eat or grab a snack. It shows the way salt is extracted from the ground. It is like a small wooden village with souvenier shops. Well worth a visit...

The Castle of Óbidos, a grand medieval fortress with origins dating back to the 9th century, offers hotel rooms for booking inside. Situated strategically to provide a commanding view of the city it is named after, this castle has maintained its remarkable condition throughout centuries and serves as an excellent destination for history enthusiasts. Its construction commenced over a thousand years ago during the 8th century when it was fortified by Muslims.
A charming village with narrow cobbled streets and loads of ginja( sour cherry 🍒 liqueur) to sample. You can walk on the old castle walls, admire the view and stop by in one of the many cafes or little shops that sell all types of wares. If you want to spend a pleasant afternoon this is the place.
Raluca — Google review
Great historic site to stroll through with family and grab lunch. The historic town is still active, and you can walk either straight though the main street and residential areas of winding narrow roadways all the way to the main castle/now hotel point. If you don't fear a little height, walk the entire perimeter of the old town to the castle along the old guard walls where it will lend great views to the interior and also the exterior cascading hillsides nearby.

Super nice castle! The entire outer wall is preserved and one can walk over it entirely, surrounding the village of Óbidos.
The house in the inside are very beautiful and picturesque. There are many shops, souvenirs and restaurants. Almost no scammers or annoying people!
It’s also not very crowed so you’ll for sure enjoy your experience. I recommend parking somewhere outside the walls along the street as there is plenty of space.
Enjoy the sunset on top of the walls. You’ll like it.

Beautiful, picturesque, climatic place, its a hidden gem of Portugal, especially in the evening. Strolling trough the narrow medieval streets , food and local stuff: such a nice experience. It's a must go place!
Marcin Malek (Malq) — Google review
We went there to enjoy a stellar sunset from the wall and it was breathtaking. After entering the main gate just on the left you will see some steep stairs - and then some more! It climbs up quite high, the stones are slippery and there is no safety rail so I’d recommend comfortable but non-slippery shoes. We’ve seen a lot of people with slippers which seemed quite unsafe.
Inside the castle there is plenty of restaurant and shopping opportunities and to try the local ginjinha sour cherry liquor which was excellent.

We came from Lisbon and arrived around 2pm. It was very packed with tourist but by 5-6pm everyone was leaving on their tour buses, so we had a good experience walking almost by ourselves in the town. I would say that you just need 2-3 hours to see the whole town and to go around the walls.
It’s a beautiful little pace to visit but you don’t need the whole day to explore. It has nice restaurants and souvenir shops.

A nice castle where you can walk along the walls that encloses the small town and has some great views. Once we entered the castle we climbed up the stairs and walked counter clockwise to the villa at the far end. Once there we walked along the base of the wall on the outer side to get away from the sun while still enjoying the awesome views. Inside the walls there are shops and restaurants where most of the tourists from the buses mingle.
Sal FromCal — Google review
Such a fun place to go to! You can walk on the walls but they are without any rails and are steep. But I enjoyed walking there with my family and taking some cool pictures. There were places to eat, shops to buy souvenirs, houses, church. Loved the experience. We also drank ginja cherry liqueur in chocolate cups. Lots of places selling it for 1.5-2 Euros.
Sanjeeta Pai — Google review
Slice of history is well preserved but sadly cannot be fully explored. The castle is a luxury hotel and no entrance unless a guest at the hotel. There is parking on the roads by the castle and the roads are not that bad to drive. Once you park you can walk towards any of the steep steps or sloping roads to access the fort area.
The town inside the fort area is amazing with cathedrals, shops, houses. There are beautiful flowers everywhere making this town a fairytale place.
The outsides of the castle, medieval set up are all great to enjoy and view. The medieval fair was not much fun, sort of a dry show depending on the timing. We saw the falcon show and it was not worth it and we felt sorry for the birds. They should not be living in cages.
The fortress walls can be explored, walked but care must be taken as there are no support walls on one side most of the way. But worth walking to enjoy the glory of the forts history, views. There is a local bakery with vegan choices, amazing taste.
The shops here sell the local cherry liquor Ginjha de Obiedos and you can sample it before buying.

We went here in the good bright weather. Óbidos is really a special city. We stopped here on our way back to Porto from Lisbon.
You can explore the castle inside freely. We climbed and enjoyed the view. There are not many visitors during our visit at the end of January. It has museums , a cathedral, and a beautiful landscape view. I remembered that we do not pay any ticket admission.

A lovely and nice medieval old town. You can explore the whole town just by foot. There are a lot of restaurants in the old town, we tried the paella (not traditional but still amazing, flavourful and tasty) And the Portuguese styled steak (which isn't that good but still nice and lovely.
A lot of stairs, so you might be a bit tired. But you can get a nice cherry alcohol chocolate shot all for around one euro A shot. You can too sit and relax at a small cafe and order coffee and pastries.

Nestled within the walls of a medieval castle, a charming little town of narrow streets with shops and restaurants to discover. The walkway along the perimeter is not for the faint of heart - there’s no safety rails on the 4 foot wide pathway, and being at times 10+ meters above the town, it can be a little scary especially on windy days. Be careful as well for the stone walkways that have been weathered smooth over time (can be slippery). Expect to spend 1.5-3hours there. Amazing views and a couple old churches to see as well.

It’s a nice entrance to the Old Town which is surrounded by well-preserved walls that survived thru the centuries. Definitely worth walking the narrow streets of the town and checking all the things there. Mind the cars that also go thru this entrance and the slippery stones in case of the rain.

Bacalhôa Buddha Eden is an impressive sculpture park located on the grounds of a winery in rural Obidos, Portugal. The park features stunning Asian-inspired gardens with pagodas, lakes, and terracotta soldiers. One of the highlights is a giant Buddha statue that dominates the landscape. The park was created by art collector Jose Berardo as a response to the Taliban's destruction of cultural heritage in Afghanistan.
Beautiful place... Pet friendly and really really big. There's a lot to see and walk inside. Also, if you want to taste a delicious local wine it's possible. In resume, I'd visit it again. If you are looking for a place to have a good time with family/friends/couple, this is it.

It has many, many great sculptures in both stone and metal art forms. We really enjoyed it and will return again. My only complaint is that there is a bit of a mixture of cultures as at the entry area there is a Roman influence and then there is a large area devoted to Africa and then the Buddha area but it's only described as the Buddha Eden gardens. I think the Roman statue area should be removed and the garden divided by vegetation into the African area and the Buddha area as that would make sense. I would like to see more foliage in the Buddha area with corner to allow meditation with trickling streams and seating. At present, the Buddha area is in a vast open expanse of land which doesn't seem appropriate to me. Overall a good place to visit and take a multitude of photos of the amazing sculptures.

The Buddha Eden gardens have to be some of the most peculiar places that I have ever seen. The gardens are huge, and they set the stage for a gigantic open-air art exhibition, with sculptures crafted by some well-known artists. And that for an entrance fee of only five euro. For an additional price, you can ride aboard a touristic train over the garden's streets. At the exit there is a souvenir store with a wide variety of affordable, local wine. I visited the gardens for only three hours, but I could have easily spent a whole weekend there.

Totally recommend visiting if you're I'm the area. If you visit in the summer months, make sure you get a ticket that includes a train ride as walking all of that in the heat would be dreadful.
It can be expensive €12 entry + €12 for the train per person, but it's worth it, and I imagine they also spend a lot on maintaining the park - it was clean and in pristine condition.
We walked through various areas and very much enjoyed it all, including the African section. We also stopped for an ice cream for the kiddos and sangria for the ladies ;) - they were the size of a fish bowl.

That incredible place that everyone should visit in Portugal. Easy to find, there is no preparation and you need to pay the entrance fee – not expensive. You can choose to walk or use the train. I recommend using it because the place is huge and you can stop in specific places, walk a little, take photos and catch the train again to move on. On the way out, you pass by a convenience store and can buy wines at a great cost. Have a good trip!

It's such an amazing place. Definitely need not less than two hours to indulge in nature and the sculptures available. So quiet and peaceful. Entrance fees are 6 €. You can additional 6€ for bus tour instead of walking . A map is available at the location to navigate through. The place requires private transportation or arranged tour. No public transportation in the are.

An amazing park, Buddha Eden has hundreds of statues, from a gigantic recling Buddha and dozens of other gods and mystical beings. There are also a whole lot of metal and stone carvings and statues. Well worth a visit.

A surprisingly large and beautiful garden with an Asian atmosphere, where you can enjoy a peaceful walk for a few hours. Only 10 minutes drive from Obidós. Lots of Buddhist but also Chinese statues (this mix is a bit confusing). Somewhere in the back of the garden we found many peacocks, locked in cages that were too small. Why are they locked up and not walking around freely? Very sad, not animal friendly and against the Buddhist way of thinking/living and the peaceful appearance of this garden. Hopefully this will change! And 1 more tip: serving in the café real, fresh coffee instead of the one from the machine, would make a big difference ;-). For the rest: worth a visit!

I loved it! Really cheap entrance (only 6 euros). The garden is massive and took me a few hours to walk through everything. There is nice restaurant by the entrance ( u pay around 18 euro per person and it includes dessert, coffee, soft or alcoholic drink, main meal of your choice and salad).

This place will make you go: " how the hell did this happen? In the middle of nowhere?" As you explore the property and the wonderful Asian and other artistic inspired sculptures, you will absolutely fall in love with the peaceful surroundings and the involving nature that surrounds the whole thing. Plus the souvenir shop has tons of wine ...so yeah..GO THERE if you happen to be in the area!!
My family and I went on a tour and wine tasting at AdegaMae, and the experience we had was incredible. The winery itself is an absolute gem, showcasing meticulous attention to detail in every aspect. Our tour was made all the more enriching thanks to our guide, who provided us with insightful and informative commentary throughout. But the real highlight was the wine tasting session, which can only be described as phenomenal. Each wine we sampled was expertly paired with traditional Portuguese dishes such as pica pau and choco frito, elevating our tasting experience to new heights. I can't go without mentioning the stunning interior of the winery and the impeccable service we received, which truly added to the overall charm of our visit. We will be definitely coming back!

We are big fans of this place - excellent wines, desserts and views! We went for dinner twice, can only recommend their bacalhau dishes - we were unfortunately disappointed by other choices (steak, lamp, octopus) - therefore only 4/5 stars

Had a 45 minute tour in English. Saw everything from the grapes on the vines to them being unloaded and then finally the aging in barrels. Ended with a 3-wine tasting and decided to buy a bottle on the spot. Overall the experience is very reasonably priced (and generous pours on the tasting too!)

There are three options and three separate locations to enjoy this beautiful winery and their wines: full service restaurant, by-the-glass tasting area, sample tasting bar. We enjoyed the by-the-glass area and had a few tapas to go with our very nice wines. Attentive, knowledgeable service in English. Very nice Alvarino, Reserve white (Chardonnay blend) and Viosinho

It's long. It's a most necessary part of the motor-way network around Lisbon and, in that sense, a major accomplishment. But, as a city icon, it is no match for the old iron, Golden Gate type bridge a few miles downstream...

The Vasco Bridge is the longest bridge in Europe and I crossed it, the beautiful view to the bay and the whole city amazed me. We all think we realize that it was built in honor of the explorer Vasco da Gama. The road was very good, if you cross the bridge to the north you have to pay a fee of 2.15 euros, I say it is worth it for the whole landscape offered and in the opposite direction the access is free. I recommend to cross the channel and for the view!
Parque das Nações is a regenerated region located on the Tagus River in Lisbon. It comprises of green spaces adorned with public art that connect modern buildings such as Camões Theater and the massive Lisbon Oceanarium. The area boasts trendy waterfront restaurants and the glass-roofed Centro Vasco da Gama, featuring cinemas and shops. The Knowledge Pavilion offers kid-friendly exhibits, whereas Telecabine Lisboa cable car provides panoramic views of the surroundings.
The Centro Vasco da Gama shopping mall offers international retailers and eateries in addition to a cinema. The building was originally built for the 1998 World Exhibition, and has continued to grow over the years.
Very busy and stilll great. Lots of shops, restaurants, cinema and big, free car park. By the Tejo (Tagus) River for a walk with a fantastic view, teleferic and more restaurants, clubs and coffee shops. You can also rent a bike or a scooter. Something for everyone. Definitely recommend it.

Vasco da Gama was a famous explorer, and this is your opportunity to explore the wonders of an upmarket, modern and popular shopping centre on the outskirts of Lisbon. It is easily accessible. There is a train station just across the road.
A taxi there from city centre will only set you back about 9 euro. Many of the most popular international brands are sold in this multi-level shopping centre. Its interesting architectural design includes a good selection of restaurants on the upper levels. Although some of the prices quoted are higher than shops in Lisbon City centre, it is still worth a visit. There is also a nice promenade walk along the shoreline nearby, and views from a cable car for the more adventurous.

This has to be the best. If your are driving a car they have a very good underground parking with easy access. All the top shops you want there are great. The food hall with a fantastic view over the river Tagus and the Vasco da Gamma bridge. I would highly recommend. Very beautifully architectured inside and out. The feeling inside of this venue is charming. It is not a normal shopping center, It has a cruise ship feel and also a plethra of light coming through. They have a variety of shopping for children, men and women.
The food court area is jam packed for lunch

Nice mall built on top of the Metro station with lots of shops. The architecture is pretty chill as it has lots of structural shading that are both functional and look cool.

Cheep car park if you want to go and visit sites. Especially Oceanario.
Plenty shops so you can find something for yourself. And at the top level you can enjoy with variety of food.
I found two weak points of this shopping mall. First is beggars, in about 20 minutes of eating I had two people asking me about money. One was kind of aggressive. No sign of security at all.
Second and the worst one was male toilets. I am not going to describe what I saw. But hygienic reason should be closed down permanently.

One of the biggest shopping centers in Lisbon, close to the river, paid parking which is usually cheaper than street or underground parking. Big variety of clothes shops, not so big restaurant options.
The Oceanario de Lisboa is a large aquarium in Lisbon, Portugal which showcases a wide variety of aquatic species. It's divided into four habitat zones, and the central tank is home to an impressive array of sealife. The attraction is great for children, and there are plenty of other sights and attractions in the surrounding area too.
Certainly the best aquarium I've ever been to. So peaceful and relaxing. The animals look well cared for with lots of space. There is plenty of space to sit and observe the large tank with the sharks, rays and more. More expensive than most tourist attractions in Lisbon - but well worth the cost.

I recently visited this aquarium and it was an incredible experience! The variety of sea life on display was truly impressive, and I was in awe of the vibrant colors and intricate details of each exhibit.
The aquarium is very well-maintained and clean, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They were happy to answer any questions I had and even provided interesting facts about the different species of fish and marine life.
One of the highlights of my visit was the large tank with several different species of sharks swimming gracefully around. It was an incredible sight to behold, and I could have spent hours just watching them swim.
Overall, I highly recommend visiting this aquarium. It's a great place to learn about sea life and appreciate the beauty of our oceans. I can't wait to go back and explore more of what this wonderful attraction has to offer.

Love this place. Make sure you allocate lots of time to actually enjoy it. Lots of people and tends to be quiet busy so be prepared for that. Average time spent here I’d say is 2-3h. They have a gift shop at the end (of course) and a nice little eatery place.

Now this is how an ocean aquarium should look like everywhere. It is so clean, well maintained, with healthy biodiversity. It is not very big, but it screams quality over quantity. And don't get me wrong, it is not lacking diversity or things to see, oh no. It has everything you want to see in an aquarium and designed in a very smart way. I go to the local aquarium anywhere in the world, where I travel despite the fact that I also dive a lot, but I have to say, this is one of the best ones. Great job.

My partner and I had an amazing time here! This was top of my favorite places we had ventured off to in Lisbon, and highly recommended! The time and effort it took to get this place off the ground and operations is absolutely remarkable (all explained in a video inside, highly recommended to watch before going through it all!)
You have two options, you can wait for a cheap night kind of like a cocktail hour! but the line can be fairly long and typically a family things with children (cheaper so makes sense!) If its just two...i would recommend going anytime!

In Europe this is one of the best aquariums available. It’s quite big, a great place to visit and has a great collection aquatic creatures. Well maintained and worth the time.
The Underwater Forest is gorgeous, so take a moment to sit down and appreciate it instead of rushing past it.
The aquarium in general can be very crowded and busy, so don’t go during the weekend, but go during the week.

My visit to Oceanário de Lisboa was truly remarkable. The size of the facility exceeded my expectations, and I found it easy to navigate. The diversity of fish, numbering in the thousands, left me in awe. Observing sharks and other exotic fish up close was an incredibly captivating experience. Ticket prices are pretty decent also. Make sure to buy tickets online and avoid the line at the ticket booth!
Felipe Nogueira (PePeTD) — Google review
Easily one of the best aquariums I've been to. The design and layout of the place is very well thought-out, with the central 'main' tank being visible from a total of 8 main viewing windows across two floors and several smaller windows; the benefit of this is that you don't get the usual crowding of the main exhibits and when we visited on a Monday afternoon we were able to take our time in taking in the incredible atmosphere of the underwater landscape. It's amazing how close you can get to the stars of the show unlike other aquariums. The building is divided up into quarters, each relating to a different part of the world. There were some very surprising exhibits like the sea otters and penguins. I liked the inclusion of seabirds too. Finally, I loved the message of the aquarium, was particularly surprised to hear Carl Sagan's pale blue dot monologue in one of the rooms, very much sums up the message they want to leave you with. A must-visit place if you enjoy aquariums.
Reece Spencer — Google review
An amazing aquarium to visit in Lisbon! Outside the building stood a tall mascot resembling a scuba diver, welcoming us upon entry. Once inside, we were greeted by walls adorned with blue Portuguese azulejo tiles, evoking the depths of the ocean. To reach the main building, we crossed a bridge. The aquarium was well-curated, boasting a diverse array of marine life and fish species, alongside a large glass tank at the center of the building. Undoubtedly, it ranks among the world's best aquariums, offering an experience worth every penny! Suitable for visitors of all ages, I highly recommend a visit to this remarkable place!
Patrick Min — Google review
An exceptionally awesome place. Everyone irrespective of the age would enjoy this place. Make sure you aim to spend at least two to three hours here. We were here for 1 1/2 hours but we felt that it was too short. It has a wide variety of fishes and other species. The place is very well maintained. If you are visiting Lisbon, make sure to include this in your itinerary.
Law Pundits — Google review
A very large Oceanarium with a huge central ocean basin that is the main attraction. This can be viewed from different locations and from different levels. You practically walk all around it.
There are also numerous other aquariums and areas to explore. Penguins, reef fish, a giant octopus and more. There is also a tropical forest.
Children can have fun with a little diver. This is available as a figure or in digital form and playfully teaches waste prevention and explains how life in the ocean works.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the restaurant on the second floor. The ambience did not seem very inviting. However, there was a nicely designed bistro on the first floor after the store with delicious food and very friendly staff.
We also enjoyed the additional exhibition "Forests under Water" on the upper floor near the entrance.
The entrance fee for 2 adults and one child was just under 60€. Unfortunately, we could not buy the online ticket because the website did not allow correct information when entering the mobile phone number (too few characters possible in the input field, country code can not be entered).
So we stood in line for about 15 minutes, so it went quite quickly at the ticket line.
In total we were there almost 5h, a great day in a fascinating place, especially in bad weather.

I had an incredible time at the Lisbon's aquarium, it's probably the best one I have ever been to. Hands down even better than Sea Life in London!
All the tanks are so well kept which made it enjoyable to walk through the aquarium. There's a massive pool / tank right in the middle of the aquarium which has so many different fish (including sharks!!). We absolutely enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend.

This aquarium has some pretty neat fish, sharks, starfish, and more. Overall, there were a lot of cool things to see here. However, we went during the happy hour, which gave us a big discount on ticket prices, and this ended up kind of tainting our experience here. It was so packed that you had to wait and then squeeze yourself through loads of people just to be able to see any of the exhibits. While we day pay only 7.50 per person, it may be worth it to pay the normal price for a less crowded experience.

Cane to visit during our first trip to Lisbon, totally worth it. A little out of the way from the city but easy to get to. A great idea for a date day. Would recommend going in the evening (around 4 or 5pm) when it’s less crowded. The underwater forest is a must see

Great value! I have seen the aquarium’s in NYC, Baltimore, Atlanta, and others! This place definitely stands out amongst them as one of the best. I highly recommend checking this out with your family if you are in town! It was incredible!

The place is absolutely amazing and very good for learning as much as enjoying. the superstars of the place are the two magnificent giant artic otters.
The location is fantastic and there are plenty of places where to eat either before of after visiting the aquarium

Absolutely blown away by the marine section, spent over and hour just in there exploring all the differing environments. And seeing how all the inhabitants interact with their environment.
And then onto the main reason for coming, to sit and admire Amano sans masterpiece. To just sit and take in the sheer scale of the plants and how they have grown to gigantic proportions. To admire the fish and seeing them meander amongst the plants was stunning.
Flown from the UK just for this, and was worth it. Will be coming multiple times during my stay, just so I can absorb the ambience at leisure.

We had a great time here, me and my 2 boys (3 & 4) visited and loved it. We went off peak so we didn't have a problem with it being too busy. We got to see lots of animals and learn a lot. I loved how different it was to other aquariums I've been to and it was cleaned and well maintained. Sea otters were my favourite
Paige Paterson — Google review
Excellent aquarium, lots of different sea creatures to see and many spots to view the main tank from. The main tank is by far the main attraction because of its immense size and diversity of creatures living together including a surprisingly large school of fish. The animals almost all appear to be happier and more engaged than at other aquariums we've been too because they are less crowded in their tanks. My main recommendation is to not waste too much time trying to look at the main tank at the beginning of the path because they are often the most crowded. Instead, go to less crowded viewing areas later on.
Robert Vida — Google review
This place was amazing! They have a huge tank in the middle with all kinds of fishes and baby sharks and the aquarium was built around the tank so no matter where you go or which floor, you have a view of this tank. They have benches for you to sit and just take in the view, peace and quiet. I loved the penguin section and watching the otters swim. It is a must if you are visiting Lisbon.
Suzy Torres — Google review
Not the best aquarium in the world as advertised but still fine. Always crowded during Summer and on weekends. Book in advance. During the visit do not forget to spend time with the otters. They are amazing creatures.

I loved everything about this place. The staff was fantastic, courteous, and were multilingual. The displays were huge. I mean huge. There's a giant tank in the middle that you can stop and see in-between seeing all of the other exhibits. And all of the exhibits were incredibly educational (great for kids), and fun to watch. None of them felt forced, it was just the animals in their "natural" environment. I strongly advise going here for a day trip. You can also bundle tickets for the cable cars in with your ticket to the aquarium, so you can quickly and easily get to the mall and restaurant strip ~1KM away

My boyfriend and I both loved it! We were in Lisbon on vacation and discovered that they had this aquarium that was really well known. (How I missed it in my planning, I don't know!) I love going to aquariums in the cities I visit and I think this was probably my favorite after Atlanta's aquarium. There were a lot of exhibits, information was posted all around so you could know what you were looking at, and the animals were all really active! We got to watch the puffins get fed and that was a lot of fun. Their ocean tank in the middle was massive and you could see it from every angle as you walked the building. We spent I think 3 hours there and were in no rush, so I would say you want at least an hour or two set aside for it. Overall, great experience and I would definitely recommend making a stop while you are in Lisbon.
