The direct drive from Medellin to Manizales is 131 mi (211 km), and should have a drive time of 3 hrs 5 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Medellin to Manizales, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with top places to visit like Parque Explora and Viveros Jardin Botanico de Medellin, or the ever-popular Acevedo Cra.63 #103g-86 Medellin.
The top stops along the way from Medellin to Manizales (with short detours) are Acevedo Cra.63 #103g-86 Medellin, Plaza Botero - Medellín, Antioquia, and Parque Explora. Other popular stops include Panaca, Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Rosary, Manizales, and Nevado del Ruiz.

The structures are impressive, clean, and secure, making it a must-visit for travelers. Despite safety concerns, the area is extremely safe and smooth to navigate, especially with the option to switch between metro and metrocable seamlessly.
Incredible! This is the cable car you start at and connect to next train and keep going up to get to Parque Arvi. Unforgettable ride

Dominick Maone — Google review
The best metro and cable car system I have ever seen. Loved every bit of it.
Darshan Shetty — Google review
Here you can change between metro and metrocable. You don't have to pay to take the metrocable if you are coming here with the metro. If you are lucky you can see a cow swimming in the river.
Donato Colaprico — Google review
Super efficient service mid Medellín. I was quite impressed with the structures, the cleanliness and security. The sites are beautiful, a certain must. I’ve heard some people are a bit skeptical on the safety concern. These are extremely well maintained, have never had an issue and are very smooth considering some winds mid hill.
Tanya A — Google review
You can have a good overview over the city here. Felt safe everytime.
Ina F. — Google review
The service of the metro system is great. The station is getting bigger to add another cable system to the other side. Now you can take the cable to the north - oriental side of medellin anding in a natural park and soon, there will be a cable going to the north- west side.
This massive Medellin museum is home to a variety of interactive exhibits and a planetarium. It's a great place for kids and adults to explore science and technology.
Amazing interactive expos. Totally recommended if you have kids or want to feel like one again. Be sure to arrive early so you can enjoy all the rooms.

One of the best place I’ve visited! I am shocked by the organization. Tons of super friendly and very knowledgeable mini guide that will gladly walk you through for free around their sections. Each one have a red polo shirt and each one covers a certain section. I felt like a VIP and they truly love their job and make the whole experience unforgettable! I would give it a 10 stars!!!!

There is just so many positives to this place that it's hard to list them all. I will say it has plenty of things to keep the kids entertained of all ages. My boys loved the rock climbing wall, the aquarium, the making a movie commercial. Just getting to be so hands on with everything and what they can learn. You can spend plenty of hours there exploring.
Lisa Chinnici — Google review
Great Museum for young and old. Lots of interactive pieces with mostly zero waiting times. Good for non Spanish speaking people: nearly every explanation is is English also available.

Great place to spend the day, it’s a huge museum with interactive exhibits. You can easily spend 4-5 hours there interacting with the exhibits and looking at the aquarium.. There’s also a planetarium which I didn’t like that much, the movie was like 30 minutes long, not with it for me.
Daniel Vargas — Google review
Amazing place, hudge amount of attractions for kids and adults. I would recommend to go for a whole day. Especially kids will love it.
Many animals to see, big aquarium, amazing explanation of the subject in Spanish and English too. So this is very good for travelers.
Quick payment, no queues, very friendly staff.
Nice place to spend day out.

Nice way to spend a rainy day! I really enjoyed the 3 rooms of experiments, though you shouldn't call the couple of fishes an aquarium... If the aquarium is not your focus, go there!

Such a cool place for families. Spend the day and grab some lunch. They have an aquarium, toddler/ infant play area, reptile room and more!

An amazing place, fundamental if you go to Medellin, also you will need to spend the entire day to see all the places. “Music room” is really good, also the price is expensive 48k for tourists, however the service is good
Luis David Montes de Oca Hurtado — Google review
Went with three generations of cousins. Exhibits in Spanish with good translations in English. Lunch options are good. Spend the day inside, and then stay and play on the outdoor patio once the sun isn’t so hot. Entries close at 5 or 5:30pm, but the museum is open a whole hour later. Lovely day spent learning and playing. Highly recommend, even without kids- it’s fun!
Annie Olson-Reiners — Google review
What a wonderful place.
This is a interactive museum where you can learn thousands of interesting things.
You will need at least one full day to visit it, best if you take two.
When you come in, there is a few interesting attractions in the outdoor part, where you can experience some cool things about physics.
There is a small but interesting aquarium with sweet and salty water spices and a terrarium with only few but cool small animals.
In the different rooms of the park (music, mind, time…) you get to see, touch, read, hear and experience in different ways how those things work. There are a looot of pieces to interact with. Everything have explanations in Spanish and most of them in english as well.
There is looots of staff around the place to help you, answer your questions and explain you the attractions.
Most of the workers very kind, friendly and very passionate about the job.
Inside of the park you have some restaurants and cafes so you don’t even need to go out.
When its busy, it can be a bit overcrowded and you will have to wait some time to get to use the different components, but not a big deal.
Very recommended for everyone, families, couples, kids and adults. There is something for everyone.
We loveeed it and when we will be back in Medellin, we will be back at explora Park without doubt.
Congratulations for the amazing park and keep up the good work.

Great place! The staff is amazing and really friendly! All the activities are really fun! Great for kids and adults! Definitely worth the visit!
Angélica Moya — Google review
My family came here to spend the day while visiting Medellin last week. Based on the website and YouTube videos, I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew there were the outdoor hands on activities and the aquarium, but I didn’t know about all the other activities upstairs.
We spent 5 hours here walking through the outdoor areas, aquarium and all 4 of the themed rooms. We were pleasantly surprised by all the hands on, interactive stations in each section. Each room upstairs is separated into different themes: time, music, mind and “on stage.” Each area had something interesting for both adults and kids. It was a perfect way to spend the day for my 8 year old.
The staff was helpful and everyone we interacted with was very pleasant. They helped us understand what each activity was about and the man working down in the aquarium was very informative and nice to speak with. The facilities were clean and well maintained with nothing out of order.
The only thing that could be improved upon in my opinion is the food offerings. There are only a few fast food options and nothing looked fresh or well made. Be sure to eat beforehand or bring snacks if you will be there for a long time.
For the price we paid (40 mil COP per person) and all the fun we had, it was well worth it. I highly recommend to visit here, especially if you have kids.

Parque Explora near the Botanical Gardens is interesting for both children and adults. This is a great place to visit and explore via the many interactive exhibits. Plan on a good 3 hours at the minimum to get the best bang for your buck. The life-sized dinosaur statues are must-see too.

The Museum of Antioquia, a renowned cultural institution in Medellin, showcases historical and contemporary artworks. It houses an impressive collection of pieces by native artists such as Fernando Botero and Pedro Nel Gómez, along with modern works. This art venue is widely considered one of the top museums not only in Medellin but also in Colombia. Visitors can explore a dedicated exhibition featuring Botero's famous sculptures and paintings depicting overweight individuals and animals.
Must visit while in Medellín. Most descriptions are in Spanish and when we went they didn't have English speaker guides. My Spanish is intermediate level but I still enjoyed the exhibits tremendously. Give this place at least 2-3 hours and make sure to go to the top floor for Botero insanity. Highly recommend.
Maroosh De — Google review
Cool place. Give yourself at least 2 hours. The security staff needs a ton of training. Followed me around, walking in front of me while I’m looking at exhibits, just poorly trained for a nice museum.

It was interesting and had a lot of history. The artworks was beautiful. I like the scenery around the museum. I'm going back later today.

I love Botero and this Museum has all of his essence and lot of works. Beginning outside it's already great and I would encourage anyone to visit it, although be careful not to wander off too far.
Joshua Sandi — Google review
The art at the museum is beautiful, and a lot of the exhibits are translated in English hower none of the staff I interacted with spoke English and the museum is in a very dangerous area. Dress modestly, bring a cheap phone, and brush up on your Spanish. The statues around the plaza are fun to take photos with and the museum itself is full of amazing art with a whole floor dedicated to Fernando Botero, and two more floors with art from various Colombians artists which to me was the highlight. I wasn't able to able to see everything while I was there, I would love to go again. Its also the safest place to be in that area so we recommend using that as a hub to pull out your phones and make calls because otherwise your liable to get your phone stolen out of your hands.
Adam Rotshtyn — Google review
What a great display of paintings and sculptures made by Botero. One can find unique paintings, and surrounding the museum (outside) there are a lot of bronce sculptures. Unfortunately inside the museum, they don't allowed to take pictures.
Jorge Gonzalez — Google review
It’s a quick 10 minute walk from the Jose Maria market as a random fact.
The space outside is okie. Fill with vendors and we just want to check out the museum in lpeace. The area could use a good cleaning thou.
Beside that, this museum inside is so peaceful and beautiful. Big enough for to explore and yet small enough to finish in a hour or so.
Kevin Zeng — Google review
Even with 40% of their exhibitions out of order, we spent a long time here admiring an incredible diversity of art. Well worth the time and the money.

My hometown’s main museum. Our most famous artist is Fernando Botero. He put our country in the art world map. Thanks to him we are known for something different than… (you know what).
He has provided an invaluable contribution of his own art pieces, and donated a large selection of artifacts from his own personal collection.
Thank you so much, Mr. Botero!
Leonardo Arango — Google review
Great museum, the third floor is exclusively dedicated to Botero, and photos were not allowed. If you are in Medellin, it's a must visit!

Nice museum in an awesome park setting close to other activities. Wonderful art for almost every palate. Highly recommend :)
Eddy Serenity — Google review
Nice variety of art styles. Top floor is no photos, but bottom 2 floors you can take photos. I spent around 2 hours here
Maddi Petro — Google review
Wonderful museum, though the two wings make the visit slightly confusing. If course I loved the large Botero sculpture in the plaza and his substantial works in the museum. Unfortunately, no photos were allowed of the Botero paintings. The other collections are also interesting and cover a wide range of genres.
Rainer Gruen — Google review
Lovely art museum with beautiful pieces from Colombian artists. I would love some more explanation of the pieces and the history of the artists. The few explanations that are there are only in Spanish.
But you can take a tour inside to fix this. Definitely recommend!
Mathijs Boogaert — Google review
The top floor is dedicated to paintings and some sculptures by Bolero. You should definitely go if you are at Bolero Plaza.

The Plaza Botero in Medellín, Antioquia is home to 23 sculptures by Fernando Botero, as well as a landscaped grounds and benches. It is a tourist attraction and a part of the Free Walking Tour of Medellin.
Great plaza with train access, and lots of cool architecture and sculptures. If you are a tourist, do not explore too far from the plaza. It seems to be in a really sketchy location.
Alice Wu — Google review
It is a real treat for yourself to see all these sculptures in one place. You can easily spend hours looking at them, also the buildings and the people passing by.
Marije Van Neck — Google review
Statues are very awesome. Have some vendors nearby selling all kinds of things in the park, it does get pretty packed. It isn’t in the best area, I definitely wouldn’t go around nighttime.
Jake Moore — Google review
Botero is the the most famous artist from Colombia so this is a must visit in Medellin if you like art museums. I am pretty indifferent about art but his style is unique. The plaza itself is vibrant and a good place to photos. It is also easily accessible with a train station. I would spend a couple hours in the plaza + museum combined and give it 3.5 stars.
Brad Lipschultz — Google review

This eponymous plaza is adorned with large sculptures by world renowned artist Botero. These figures are rotund figures for which he is famous.
The Museum of Antiquities which is on the square, devotes the third floor to paintings by Botero.
Steven dosRemedios — Google review
A beautiful square in the middle of downtown Medellin. In the middle of the square you will find large works of art by Boltero, beautiful architecture. The location of this square shows (unfortunately) at the moment how divided the city is. The square is fenced off and 'secured' by police. I recommend not visiting the streets outside the square. Other than that, I really enjoyed it.
Eduard Verbaarschot — Google review
I loved the plaza. The Botero sculptures are unique and imposing. The surrounding area can be a little bit dangerous. So you have to be careful and aware of your surroundings and the people.

Medellín is working to improve parks and the neighborhood and this is one step showing it’s working. Beautiful art sculptures in this park. On my visit on 5/7/23, there were police controlled entries to the park strictly because the area is being gentrified. This is a beautiful place to stroll through and enjoy the sights.

Amazing Experience! My wife and I were looking for a little adventure when we went to columbia but were definitely not thinking white water rafting. We are not great swimmers and we tried it once before and felt a little unsafe. Well.. one night after a few beers, a friend talked us into giving it a try again, saying we HAD to go out with these people from Freak'n Creek'n. We woke up the next day feeling skeptical but that changed fast when we showed up. good vibes and confidence from the staff made us feel better right away. On the river, it was scary and awesome but never out of control. These guides knew what they were doing! To top it off we had some amazing pizza when we came back hungry and happy. This is a great place for beginners and anybody looking to test their limits!! We are now addicted to the river rafting!

OMG so much fun!!!
I have rafted in many countries around the world but Freak'n Creek'n is got to be my favourite! Dan, Ricky Bobby <-- cutie ;) and "Limpy" (you will have to ask him how he got the name... such a crazy story!) were our guides on our adventure down the river. As we started I was feeling pretty nervious as I'm not the best swimmer but these guys were very calm and skilled which filled me with confidence. As we came to the biggest rapid the butterflies returned in my stomach... Limpy told us our instructions then we set off. He yelled "forward paddle!" so I summond my courage and paddled hard toward it. The warm water splashed all over me!! Sooo much fun!! After the trip we had Candyce's special pizza at the resteraut on the hill.. mouth watering!! 10 out of 10!! Must do!!
Christy Hammond — Google review
This place is a must. The chef (Candyce) made some excellent food for us (Pollo BBQ Pizza) and the rafting was a blast. The Rio Calderas river that we went down was a class 3/4, which made it the perfect level of fun, but not too difficult for our group. Dan (the owner) and the entire staff were very friendly. We will be sure to visit here anytime we are near the Medellin area.

We were so thoroughly impressed and our tour guide Maria said it was her first time here as well and that the presentation, the family, the food and of course, THE COFFEE, was all superb and well worth every penny. We used Kimkim Travel who set us up with Maria, an expert linguist who translated everything and was so kind, sweet and informative and our driver, Raul, also through Kimkim Travel who was the nicest, honest, kind man and we all ended up being friends. The plantation tour was thorough and the whole local family business was charming and thought out well. I thank the Cima Family for all they do and have accomplished. Highly recommended - it's a DO NOT MISS 5 star experience.

One of the greatest travel experiences my wife and I have ever had. Seeing the development of the plant to the cup (including the roasting!), and getting to have a delicious breakfast and lunch included made the day incredible. Although a bit hard to get to, the views at the top of the hike were some of the best in Colombia. I would recommend this experience to anyone who loves coffee and is up for a bit of adventure. Also, the coffee throughout the day tastes amazing.

What an incredible experience and amazing hospitality. I felt at home the moment I arrived. This coffee farm has to be one of the highlights of my trip to Colombia. Every meal was absolutely delicious and I loved the educational component of learning where the coffee I buy comes from. If at all possible, visit this location. They are so friendly towards visitors and make the experience truly positive and unique. I loved it.
Michelle Orchid Rodriguez — Google review
It was a great found. This boutique coffee plantation was so close like 1 km from where we stayed yet it took more than 1 hour 15 minutes to reach. The beginning of the road was pretty bumpy and narrow as we were leaving home that was sitting on top of a mountain and via Fredonia, the third part was longer, first wider but again bumpy and later steep as we climbed on top of another mountain. Once we arrived, we were greeted by Camilo with freshly brewed local Colombian coffee from their field. After the introduction, we were served a small Colombian breakfast with sweet corn arepa and queso with some other nice snacks and homemade marmalade. Then, Camilo started talking about coffee plants and stages of the growing process. Then he took us to the field and he started showing us the coffee plants as well as giving very valuable information about the process from picking cherry beans and sending them through a pipe system to the facility to de-skin and separate the actual beans, wash them and drying process. We continued with the roasting stage. Then we had a very detailed coffee tasting session with brewing methods. Around 1:00pm we were served a homemade lunch that came out of Camilo’s mom’s hands with love. It was a very cozy and unique experience. Since we were supposed to return our car, we had to wrap up earlier than it usually takes. We got some coffee for friends and ourselves and hopped in our car back to Medellín.

Very unike and nice place to see how coffee is produced, starting from seed to growing the plants up to harvesting and collecting the coffee cherries.
Later it continues with drying and heating up the coffee beans until receiving a fresh coffee roast.
The owner is a very nice family and they also offer delicious food while a day experience at their farm.
The view of the farm is outstanding. Would definitely go again.

The experience was awesome! A real eye opener for all the work that goes into the coffee we drink everyday.
In the tour you go thru the entire process of making coffee from harvesting the fruits, to the different drying processes, to the roasting and finally the different extraction methods.
The family was very kind and the food was made fresh. Gave me flashbacks of my grandmother's cooking.
Furthermore, they were very knowledgeable about there coffee.

Beyond amazing. Great views. Food was great and had great calmed music. Trekking down to the waterfall is a must. Make sure to get there early.

This park has absolutely beautiful views and waterfalls. It is definitely not for beginners, it's quite a few stairs down to the falls and high altitude. Totally worth it, I recommend going! I did a zipline tour which was amazing.

Amazing natural beauty. Walking to the waterfall and climbing to the top are a must. I hope to have more time to stay a night or two next time I come.

Be prepared to be amazed by the beautiful landscape of this ecological reserve!
2 hours drive from Medellín, being the last 30 minutes on an unpaved road were you will appreciate the beautiful sights of the mountains and greenery. The main attraction of course is the incredible Salto del Buey waterfall, were you will hike for around 20 minutes down the canyon until you arrive right next to waterfall base and get wet from the splash it produce.
I highly recommend to make your reservation for the park via their whatsapp number and also book all your attractions like the zip line or the abseiling. You can also have a very good lunch for a very reasonable price and a delicious coffee grown and produced on the natural reserve.

Beautiful destination! I loved taking the Zipline across the gorge to eat at the restaurant, and hike to the waterfall! The view are crazy beautiful! Don't do the Zipline if you have a fear of heights, but still, gorgeous place to spend a day!

Los Saltos ECOPARQUE in Antioquia is an amazing place surrounded by nature. With the biggest waterfall in Antioquia, it offers a breathtaking experience. Conveniently close to Medellin, I parked my car before the park, enjoyed a thrilling zip line experience, and then returned on the zip line. Truly an amazing adventure.

Though not cheap and the road is long and difficult (at keast 2x4 and with rain 4x4) it was well organised and it is a beatiful spot.
Milah Wouters — Google review
Amazing location! Really worth the drive. They have a couple different activities, but the main thing is definitely to do the 90 min hike down to see the waterfall. It is a relatively short hike at about 1600 meters round trip, but it's pretty steep. Make sure you bring a bathing suit or a change of clothes, because you get to right where the waterfall hits and there is a lot of spray.

Very nice waterfall. The zipline was fun! It’s two very long ride and you have beautiful view.
The hike to the waterfall is easy to go. Be careful it is slippery!
The way to the waterfall os very bumpy😅

The place is just breath taken they a have a knowledgeable staff of the area and the attractions they offer are amazing. Also they have private cabins if you want to stay or even a hostel and an old house you can rent.

Beautiful views and experience. I did the zipline across the mountain and back, was an awesome experience. There's also an option to climb down to the waterfall and a camp site. It's a two hour drive from Medellín, but we'll worth it the rolling mountain view along the way is like no other. Highly recommend!

Some nice experiences with the canopy, swing, the "net" and the beautiful view. However, my group and I, we all felt that the people there were not really friendly. It was all about paying up and getting the things done. Shame as this seemed to be such a relaxed and fun place.

I had a really lovely stay here! The staff were very chilled out and accommodating. It’s such a great place in nature to fall asleep/wake up in and you have a beautiful view from the house. If you can stay for the night I would recommend it, as I enjoyed the full experience.
Jessamy Headicar — Google review
As others have said before the staff isn't the most hospitable and what this place really is, is a corporate speculation upon nature. To merely step on the premises you have to pay 35.000 pesos, but that entitles you to nothing really (which already sounds absurd to me) PLUS everything you want to do, you have to pay extra (25.000 pesos each attraction, some of which last literally 5 minutes). As a person who works in an adventure park, I really believe this place has nothing worthy to offer, more than a great hike. Plus - with the amount of money that flows in, the maintenance of the houses and the surrounding nature, is absolutely debatable.
Alessia Amarù — Google review
For an 8 hours drive back and forth, it should have been an astonishingly amazing experience. It wasn't nearly worth the terrible drive up the mountains to that place.
The prices were fine, the operators were great, but we only did about 3 attractions and waited for hours in between them.
Entertaining, nice view, other than that definetely not worth the visit.
Yair Barouch — Google review
Such a fun adventure! Owners and everyone on the Staff are so welcoming, they worry about your needs, all activities are safe and well guided, 100% recommended 🌅

Amazing experience! Don't miss it. The view is incredible and the feeling of being in the air is so special and exciting!
The stuff is super nice and friendly, and the cabins are into the nature (literally. Everything is open - no front wall).
There are also super fun extreme activities - tarzan, hammocks in the air, climbing.
Just take into account that there's no restaurant! There is a kitchen where you can cook (with a refrigerator), and they also sell beers coffee and cocktails.

Although the culinary experience at Dulces Del Jardín was enjoyable and the pastries were relished, there was a desire for more variety. One pastry had a filling of apples and was sprinkled with almonds, while another resembled a roll with dulce de leche. Both desserts were delicious and not overly sweet, which was highly appreciated. The shop also sells local products in a cute setting adorned with flowers and hanging pots.
I enjoyed walking into this store just by coincidence and by hearing it a while ago. It seemed magical at first seeing all the selections and exotic things jarred and stored on the shelves for display. I gave as gifts for a couple friends back home and they enjoyed every bit of the jars Dulces De Jardin had to offer.

Reserva Natural Jardín de Rocas, also known as the Garden of Rocks, is a must-visit for birdwatchers in Colombia's coffee region. This natural reserve is home to the stunning Andean gallitos de las rocas, or cocks-of-the-rock, known for their vibrant plumage. Visitors are encouraged to time their visit at dawn or dusk to witness these birds' captivating displays as they vie for mates.
Descend into the wilderness of Jardín through this beautiful park. Past the main house, down on the left, you'll find a lookout; this is where all the action is.
Before dinner is when we went, it was the perfect time to catch them red heads showing off their tail feathers.
Highly recommended. Beware, the road to and from are steep. It's probably not a great idea without the right shoes on a rainy day.

This is a unique place to watch a type of beautiful bird in the wild. It's privately owned, and they charge 15,000 col pesos. You can enjoy a beautiful garden and purchase some snacks. Great place for nature lovers.
Ravi Roy — Google review
Very interesting place since you literally won't be able to find the birds anywhere else in town but for 10k pesos you would seriously expect a much for exciting experience than simply being granted permission to view roughly a handful of birds who may or not be willing to get close to you not to mention the path to get there is tricky especially on a rainy day. 2k pesos seems more reasonable for such a bare bones experience.
E. Vilforlife — Google review
Very cool place to see some very cool birds. Expect to wait a minute or two at the gate whilst the staff come up the path to let you in. It is only a small reserve, so limiting numbers as to not scare the birds seems very sensible. Friendly staff and volunteers. There's an educational video and also a coffee shop to relax in.

This is a nice little visit (check hours) IF you are in the area. We drove from Medellin to see the birds and it is not worth that long of a drive.
The owner is very helpful and has a vast knowledge of birds and the gardens.

Parking is not real close but you can park on some side streets for free and then take the short walk.

Even if we only arrived later during the day, it was totally worth the 10,000 pesos to hear the birds for 45 minutes. They are beautiful and we were able to associate the call with the bird. We were also able to see many of them interact with each other. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful, remote, yet overated in my opinion. Go there if you are in the area during high season and want to escape to crowd. The place IS beautiful but also hard to access and less impressive that Cocora Valley (which I enjoyed a lot since I went there in low season). The owner's family is very welcoming - they also serve food and can host you - and the explanations about their lands is a nice plus. Yes, this is a good "local" alternative to Cocora, but no, it is not "better" than Cocora - just different.
The get there, first go to Salamina, then head to San Félix (buses also go there). From San Félix, drive or walk around two hours on the dirt road to the Mirador.
We slept in La Italia (located on the way between San Félix and the Mirador).

Amazing place. Basically, it is a working farm with plenty of wax palms as well as small forest. There are two guided walks shorter and longer. Taking into account that you have to spend several hours in a car to get here, I Would recommend the longrer one (8000 per person). To get by own car you need to follow the road Salamina - San Felix and than ask locals (or use a map) and take the side road. Road cobditions vary so it is better to ask befor travel. In January 2018 it was possible to drive in a normal passenger car. In February 2019, due to ongoing roadworks, the surface was in much worse condition - we had 4x4 and in some places it was a bit tricky
The Monumento a Los Colonizadores is a striking 15-meter-high bronze sculpture located in the neighborhood of Chipre. Crafted from 50 tonnes of bronze, it depicts pioneers with their tools and animals, symbolizing the city's founders. The monument offers a spectacular view over Manizales and PNN Los Nevados. Additionally, it features two separate sculpture sets: one representing the city's founders and another named "Agony," depicting the city suffering from an earthquake.
This will be forever one of the most wonderful pieces ever created. Love the story love the art. Moving! Also, best view of Manizales and part of the coffee axe.

This monument is composed of two separated sculpture sets. While the one at its center gives the name to the monument, it's the other one hidden at the back that made my trip worth it. This one, named "Agony" a miniature of the city layed as it was suffering from an earthquake, while the surrounding bulls withstand the blow. The entire piece is well crafted and it's a metaphorical representation of a dramatic event.

The Catedral de Manizales, located on the south side of Plaza de Bolivars, is a unique and impressive Catholic cathedral. Completed in 1939, it boasts a rose window and canopy on the main altar. Constructed of reinforced concrete, this cathedral represents one of the first churches of its kind in Latin America. Its main tower stands at an impressive height of 106m; making it the tallest church tower in Colombia.

I think it's one of the best in Colombia. Glass work is great. The cost of participating in a touristic tour inside the cathedral is 13,000 COP per person. Children are 8,000 COP. With this tour, you can also climb to the highest point of the cathedral. Inside, on the 2nd floor, there is a cafe overlooking the square. The service in the cafe is bad but the coffee is good.

Very, very nice from the top. It's the tallest church from Columbia. You can only reach the top if you book a tour which takes 75 min and is in spanish language. The tour was very interesting and costs 13.000 COP per person. It's especially recommended to do the tour at 17:00, to see the city by sunset/nighttime when the lights turn on.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy typical Colombian lunch for COP$15,000 or engage in Barista workshops.
Just go, and stay at the main house, it's stunning! Don't book or have them put you in the smallest room, the tanager, it's the same price as the other 4 rooms, and really should be cheaper! Absolutely wonderful stay that starts with the genuine friendliness of everyone working their (|especially Jessica y Gilberto at the dorm).
I stayed two nights in the hostel which was incredibly well organized. Be prepared to cook your own food although the mini mart in the hostel is well stocked. You can bring your own ingredients in.
You are out in the middle of a huge hacienda and free to roam the area. They have some hikes up and down the hills well mapped.
The tour was really interesting as they take you through understanding coffee, the picking and fields and into the processing.
Only one thing could be better. Wifi in the dorm area is overloaded and slow. It's better if you go to reception or the main house if you want to take a meeting!

Beautiful farm and very friendly people. They served 3 meals a day which were all delicious. The services were great also. From local tours, to help with laundry, to shuttle to and from airport, and the pricing was very reasonable. We were extremely satisfied.

Amazing place to rest, learn about coffee, go for a hike or to watch birds in the beautiful garden. The hostel itself is well equipped and clean, and offers great value for money. If you’re on a bigger budget, check out the main house or coffee lodge, they look beautiful too!

Such a serene and beautiful spot on a working farm. The wild birds are extraordinary and some fantastic giant iguanas. The food was fresh and flavorful. We loved the bird watching and coffee tours. No AC in rooms and some bugs because you are in a ecolodge surrounded by nature.. Not for those who insist on all the modern conveniences but definitely for those who crave peace and quiet and natural beauty. . Very memorable experience.

We loved it. A hidden treasure in Manizales. A bit difficult access due to a bad road but it worth the effort. Super friendly staff. We were late for the workshop they gave us a free map to walk around on different hiking roads. Such a wonderful experience: birds, insects, a river, coffee, bananas.

A really beautiful and giant coffee hacienda in the department of Caldas that has magnificent views of the coffee on the Ladera of the mountains, great local guides, and a wonderful hotel with a pool.
The space is big and interesting to get to know the coffee process and its history.
Taste some filtered methods of coffee and learn about the best soft coffee of the world in this wonderful big hacienda.

We had a wonderful few days on the farm. The hostel is a five minute walk from the main building; we stayed in a little bungalow in the garden, beautiful and quiet. A birdwatchers paradise! Our hosts made us feel very welcome, the tour through the farm and its facilities was awesome. Highly recommend this place.

Little piece of paradise!! It’s a bit out of the city centre so go there to stay and relax, it is definitely worth it. The hacienda is authentic and very charming ( I stayed in the main house) and the surrounding nature is incredible. I learned a lot from the coffee tour and workshop. Also the birding tour is very recommendable as there are so many beautiful birds around there you don’t want to miss. It’s a unique opportunity where they provide you with decent binoculars and give very useful tips to take your first steps in
this mesmerizing world. Food is delicious as well and you can tell that everyone who works there does it with heart and soul. I absolutely recommend, muchas gracias!

Great coffee farm and hostel. Beautiful area with a lot of beautiful birds. Staying at the hostel part was especially great. We stayed 4 nights. The host staff Blanca was amazing, very friendly, helped us with laundry, cooked breakfast and was always there whenever we needed anything. The pizza kits were a lot of fun. Met great fellow travellers. We could use the pool at the lodge and also used the lunches there. We did the coffee tour, cupping workshop and chocolate experience which were given by amazing hosts. We had a nice hike around the area as well.
Very beautiful and peaceful area that will leave you fully relaxed and recharged. 10/10 would recommend!

We stayed for 4 nights at Venecia. The location is beautiful and the house staff were so friendly and looked after us very well with good food and service. However,we had the worst room (rm 1) which was right next to the entrance and therefore no privacy if window/shutters was open, so dark.We asked the office/reception twice to move rooms and despite constant changeovers of guests over 4 nights they couldnt be bothered. When we paid our bill there was no thanks.Everything else was amaxing, coffee tour was excellent.
Dont let this put you off, just ask for a room with a view at the rear or side of the house.

This place is amazing. Staff is friendly, funny, super helpful, in good mood and speaking fluently English. I was there for coffee tour. Group was small, we were only 9 people and it was Sunday morning (tour started at 9:45). It was in English, guide was awesome guy, speaking fluently, told us a lot of interesting facts. He answered all of our questions, some related to topic, some not so much. Tour had funny and friendly atmosphere. You can also buy their coffee there, 3 types, grinded or whole bean. It costs 35 000cop for 250g bag. If you want you can ask them and they will sell you big bag used on farm to carry coffee around for 20 000cop. You can use it as decoration. I will put it on the wall when I come back home (you can see bag on the wall in one of the pictures). It is easy to get there, even by bus, because only thing you need is to take bus or taxi and leav it next to the Las Palmas restaurant. From there you can call them or text them on WhatsApp and their employee will pick you up by car. If you are in Manizales and you want to see coffee farm, have cocoa tour, barista course or something, this is great place to do it, 100% recommend. It is suitable for kids and elderly people, too.

This farm is beautiful! I can’t say enough good things about this place. It’s a perfect way to explore the true Colombian jungle. The main house was relaxing and a nice way to meet new people. The best part was the incredibly nice staff who made us feel at home and took extra good care of us and our baby. Highly recommend!
Place is great to get in touch with nature. There is a Juan Valdez and an open space to sit in and enjoy the view while sipping on a good coffee. I would recommend the guided tour walk. It takes you all over the park while the guides explain the type of plants/trees they have. You will eventually be taken to the top so you can witness a gran variety of birds in their natural habitat, definitely beautiful and it makes the two hours well worth it! Bring good shoes and comfortable clothing as it may be cold at times.

Very nice and big parc. With all parcs like this its almost impossible to keep clean and tidy and the same goes for this parc. The cable car wasn't working when we weten here. On the upside, the parc is beautifull. Loads of plants, trees, hummingbirds, butterflies and orchids. Very nice staff who know what they are talking about during the two hour tour for a low price (€5). Great Valdez coffeeshop!

Beautiful place. Unless you are only visiting the Juan Valdez, it is required to pay for a guided tour. I went with a group of 3 and we enjoyed ourselves. We had a great guide (Mauricio) and we learned about the local plants/animals of Manizales, bonsai trees, butterflies and hummingbirds.

Nice place to spend a couple of hours. The most remarkable attractive was the hummingbird station, the butterfly's and bonsai's parts were nice too, and the guide did a nice job explaining everything with detail. I didn't like that the orchid exhibition and the cable transport were not available, for respect to tourists they should inform of this in their website, because the entrance fee makes sense if all services were available.

Absolutely stunning. Not swamped by tourists, especially if you have your own vehicle. There's a good paved road to the main gate, except for the last 5km which can be driven slowly in most any car. Tours are available from Manizales or twice a day from the gate. You can also drive past the gate with your own car on the dirt road. No motorcycles allowed past the gate because of previous louts going off road and causing damage.
If you decide to go around towards Murillo make sure you have a very high clearance vehicle or dual sport motorcycle. That route is definitely not for the average "tourist".

The Nevado del Ruiz also known as La Mesa de Herveo (English: Mesa of Herveo, the name of the nearby town) is a volcano located on the border of the departments of Caldas and Tolima in Colombia, about 129 kilometers (80 mi) west of the capital city Bogotá. It is a stratovolcano composed of many layers of lava alternating with hardened volcanic ash and other pyroclastic rocks. Volcanic activity at Nevado del Ruiz began about two million years ago, since the Early Pleistocene or Late Pliocene, with three major eruptive periods. The current volcanic cone formed during the present eruptive period, which began 150 thousand years ago.

This is an amazing place to visit by yourself or others. Animals look great and healthy which is the most important part. Prices are okay and food is the only thing that could be better, still it can’t put aside the beauties you can find in the park. I’m eagerly waiting for the new extra parts that the park will have in the future.
Alexander Castro — Google review
Absolutely worth the trek to visit. It is beautiful. You can tell they truly care for the animals. The birds exhibit was my favorite. It rained in us all day but we did not even care. We had a lot of fun. The staff was wonderful. All the animal exhibits had the animal information in both English and Spanish, so I did not need to translate for my husband which was wonderful. We will come back next time we r in the region.
Valentina Aragundy — Google review
Amazing place that takes fare of rescued species. The animals are way more active before lunch/midday so if you can go as early as they open it’s better. Regular weekdays are also a good strategy so there are fewer people. Because bring repellent (anti-mosquitoes) and sunscreen because a part of the walking tour is just crossing through the Guaduales (a protected species in the region). There aren't many packed animals so don't expect to see a thousand species, they seem to be all in good shape and taken care of. The reserve takes care of abandoned or neglected wildlife so some of them are in the middle of a treatment, like the giraffe (looks grey)

Interesting park to visit. There are many places and different sections of animals to explore. There is also food service at this park. I would recommend visiting in the morning when it is not so full. The architecture of the place is very well done and interesting to look at.

Would not visit again. Purchased tickets and person that takes the tickets spent 5 minutes explaining where to start ect. All while carrying our puppy in his bag. Walked half the park. Then an employee stated there are no pets allowed. Yet, the park is full of stray dogs. Make this make sense? The place is over rated. There is a ton of walking and a ton of empty exhibitions. The hippo exhibit had fish in it. The hippos were in another place. The actual park is huge. Some parts you walk on mud/rock/unpaved roads. I would not say this is friendly for people with mobility issues. The animals they do have are nice. They seem to have space to move around. Staff is rude. There are people at some of the exhibits but no one really speaks to you unless you ask something. They do have a great food court but it is overshadowed by the stray dogs sitting next to you or roaming while you eat. If I had never been to any other zoo in the world, or animal sanctuary, I would give this place 5 stars. But unfortunently I find its high praise over rated.
E Galvis — Google review
The park is big and has some cool spots to take picktures with some animal and dinasour sculptures, there is also a place where you can find food and it also has a lot of bathrooms. The animals were the best part, the biggest like hippos, elephants, rhinos, and more are outstanding. Depending on the hour they may be asleep or not. But I definitely recommend this place.

Nice place to visit the animals, very clean and spacious enclosures. You can see the only giraffe in Colombia. It's better if you speak Spanish as there is not much information in English. Great place for kids and a few places to eat inside. You can go by car or take the bus and then walk or take a taxi to the entrance.
Rebecca W — Google review
Disappointed with my visit, has potential but the park seems unfinished. Also went on a Friday and it was full of multiple school visitors whom unfortunately made the experience less enjoyable. The crowds were rowdy and not well behaved. Animals were amazing just wish i would’ve seen more of them.
Talia Lopez — Google review
Amazing experience. First I gotta say: go as early as you can (they open at 9am) or else you will see half of the animals asleep. Bring anti-mosquitoes lotion + sunscreen, there's a good portion of the walk you will be doing in open areas.
The good care of the animals it's noticeable, we enjoyed the time spent there.
One last tip: don't take the alternative road, just go through the main road entrance (or you will end up in a one-sided way inside of a neighborhood).

Title: "Disappointing Experience at Panaca - 2 Stars"
Review:
I recently visited Panaca, an amusement farm in Colombia, and unfortunately, I was left quite underwhelmed, leading me to rate it 2 stars on Google. My expectations for an engaging and entertaining experience were not met.
The farm, which consists of 5 or 6 areas dedicated to farm animals, lacked the amusement factor I was anticipating. While there are animals present, the interaction is minimal - they're mostly there for viewing, which diminishes the overall experience. This aspect made it feel more like a simple walk in a field with animal displays rather than an engaging farm experience.
Additionally, the infrastructure of Panaca didn't live up to expectations. The signage around the farm was not particularly helpful, which made navigation more challenging than it needed to be. Moreover, the requirement to walk everywhere without engaging activities along the way contributed to a rather monotonous visit.
Price-wise, I felt the admission cost was not justified. Considering the limited attractions and activities, the experience did not match the price paid. I couldn't help but think that a visit to a local farm, perhaps even for a smaller fee, would have offered a more authentic and enjoyable experience.
In conclusion, Panaca didn't deliver the amusing farm experience I was hoping for. If you're looking for an interactive and engaging farm visit, you might want to consider other options.

The atmosphere and design of this park is perfect! So many things to do and see. The shows are scheduled, so be sure to check the times. There is a QR code to see a map and times. Many things cost extra, but are not necessary, like the zip line, tibetan bridge crossing, and such. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and long pants. Less bug bites that way.

The park is so big you need to spend hours in order to see most shows which are strategically scheduled so you have time to explore each area and get to each show.

It's s nice place but there's no time to visit the Aulas Vivas of you visit all the shows. You would need a two days ticket
But it was a nice place we enjoyed the stay

It's an amazing place to meet nature, Flora and Fauna very informative I have a suggestion; I saw a couple from an English speaking country that were lost at the presentation that you have previous to a subject change, they left the show because they didn't understand the jokes or stories, if you can have a translation system implemented it'd be great

Zoo/safari on steroids! I’m not an animal person but brought the kids and we were all very impressed. The park is so big you need to spend hours in order to see most shows which are strategically scheduled so you have time to explore each area and get to each show. We were a bit rushed as we came with little children and there’s a lot of walking that can be exhausting but really enjoyed the experience.

Great place to visit with family. Better for families with younger children (under 10).
Buy tickets online for a better price.
Everything has a charge, be prepared.
Restaurants are not bad and a great price.
