The TAMAR Marine Turtle Praia do Forte Project is a crucial initiative dedicated to the conservation of endangered sea turtles. At the TAMAR Education Center, visitors can gain insights into various turtle species and the threats they face from activities like pelagic long line fishing and poaching. The project also focuses on preserving humpback whales, with whale watching being a popular activity during their reproduction season from July to October.
A must see place. I love the location (right on the beach). We were able to start early in the morning take a break for lunch in side the Tamar project there is small food area. There is so much to learn in this on place. You are able to see the actual size of each turtle and compare to your own height. So many pools of turtles. One thing we didnt know is that you are contact them in advance and spend the day as a biologist. a good place for kids of all ages. I really enjoy this place.
Alyssa Helkowski — Google review
It's a very interesting, but small exhibit. It's fun to see, but keep in mind that you will maybe spend there 1-2 hours MAX. If you don't have a tour! We went 2 hours before closing and it was the perfect time to go.
B. Jisoon n — Google review
Great conservation project, beautiful displays and signage with a lot of educational content. Great for children and adults alike. The only disappointing thing was to see the amount of rubbish floating around the nearby beach, contradicting so much of the message which the project stands for.
Tanja Samira Jorgic Rudd — Google review
Worth visiting, this project shows great samples of turtles and a few other species, in a splendid space almost on the beach of Praia do Forte. Some explanations in English about turtles and the overall project would be very useful for foreign visitors!
Dominique Lecheval — Google review
It is definitely a place worth visiting. You can admire turtles of different sizes, from tiny hatchlings to enormous old turtles. While they offer guided tours, unfortunately, these tours are not available in English, and not all exhibit descriptions have English translations. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the visit.
Arkadiusz Jędrzejewski — Google review
No one spoke English here so I could not join the tour to interact with baby turtles. I was disappointed.
Tiffany Mullen — Google review
Lots of interesting information. There is a need for guides along the way but none were provided. We could have used more information and this would have generated a more engaging experience. Great to see how the project works and it certainly is an excellent initiative.

Fun outdoor activity to do with kids (free under 5)! Employees are kind, always available to explain or help. Fun way to learn about turtles. There are also sharks and rays to see. The gift shop is nice too :) For people with babies, please note that there are 2 bathrooms on the site, but only one that is baby friendly. It's the one located at the entrance of the park where you pay your ticket. Enjoy :)
Myriam Lalonde — Google review
I hate giving such low points when reviewing a place that is working to try to help the oceans and efforts of conservancy!!! However, this is a cause that is very close to my heart. Having volunteered 6 years at the G aquarium!!! I went in and out of this place and learned very little. The people that were there were not giving any particular instructions or help. Besides having a t shirt saying, if you need help, I can help but it was all in portuguese anyway.... I know we are in Brazil, and that is the official language. However, if you are trying to educate an effort of conservacy, you should have somebody who speaks other languages so everybody that goes can learn something.
I also found it extremely sad that giant turtles swam in such a reduced space🤔🤕. I understand that there are animals that can not be returned to their natural habitat for diverse reasons, but if they are to remain in human care, they need to be cared for. So for this, I cannot recommend.
Noelle Marozeau — Google review
Great place to go with or without children! Learn more about the turtle protection program from Brasil!
We even got the release of little turtles to the sea , very cute!
Mari Jadon — Google review
I like what they're doing and what they stand for. I guess they need to have to have a front of house so show everyone their good actions. It felt a little like an aquarium to me. I hope those sharks, manta rays and turtles are in there just temporarily.
Conor O'Connell — Google review
The Tamar Project does such fantastic work in protecting the marine turtles, that you absolutely have to love and support this place. The place itself is not very big, and you can walk through the whole area in 30 minutes or so. But you do get to learn a lot, and seeing the turtles is an amazing experience. It's also located in a beautiful area by some of the most beautiful beaches. After going here, you definitely have to go to the beaches and enjoy the natural wonders. If you're lucky, you can even see the turtles in the wild.
Pedram Esm — Google review
Love the place. The landscape and the turtles are amazing. You can clearly see that they love them and care about them. If you want to eat somenthing inside there, you have an open restaurant facing the ocean with a breathtaking view. You will not regret the experience.

To get from the center was very frustrating and took me 2.5 hrs to get there.
Do not rely on google maps or moovit in terms of the bus number (many buses have no number) or the bus stop to get on (as many drivers did not stop for me as it was not the right one) or even the route. Ask many people and look for a bus sign that states it is a stop. Many buses don't display numbers, and if they do, the number switches quickly that you may not have the time to see it from far to hail it down!
The Basilica of the Lord of Bonfim is a large, gothic-style church located on a hill in the city of Salvador. The church is known for its Hall of Miracles and its body part replicas, which are popular tourist souvenirs. The church's fame derives from its power to effect miraculous cures, making it a popular shrine.
I really enjoyed busing this place. We did the 3 ties for 3 wishes. It was fun to explore this area a few vendors out front. Would say this Is a good place to visit, parking can be tough to find.
Alyssa Helkowski — Google review
One of the best attraction of the city.
You'll feel a deep spiritual energy and You'll meet a beautiful cultural side of Salvador de Bahia.
Quaint old church, with a beautiful view, much nicer interior than one would guess from the exterior (although exterior is done in rather charming gothic architecture), and a cute story of wishes granted for each of the knots tied with a ribbon at its fence. Make sure not to tie more than three knots, though, and of course - you can't say the wishes out loud. :) When will they come true? When the last of the knots gets undone and the ribbon falls off the fence...
Vanja Cingel — Google review
Though it is not that close of the mainstream of Salvador's sightseeing, the basilic is indeed a must to see place. It has such a huge and potent energy that will make the extra effort worth it. It's not the most luxurious church one can visit, but the relevance of its history to the locals (and the history of religious development in the entire state) is more than necessary if you really want to leave with the mystical taste that Salvador leaves in all of us. There is no fee payment, and as a plus, you can visit the beaches located on the outskirts. Don't forget to attach your Senhor do Bonfim ribbon on the gates of the church - legends say you must choose the color you like the most and tie it in with three knots, one for each wish of yours. The color you pick will represent the orixá that protects you.
Felipe Lopes — Google review
Marvelous setting with beautiful views. Interior is very opulent. Lots of vendors for the ribbons outside.
Sheyne Lucock — Google review
This was an excellent way to find some respite from the city. There are many meetings and there are many attractions here. The basilica offers an excellent gaze into the past of not only the church but the local customs and city history.

Beautiful church carrying a lot of history. There was service when we arrived and it was crowded but we found seats and could enjoy the amazing interior of the church whilst praying. Be aware about parking and souvenir prices, street vendors try to make money on unadvised tourists.

Very old igreja and beautifully designed the architecture is very historical. I recommend if you want to do photography visit on weekdays cause on weekends and especially on Sunday you will found fully crowded. ( I couldn’t get the chance for photography) nice to visit here and see the beautifully historic details inside the igreja (church)
Jesh Sheikh — Google review
A must see during your visit to Salvador. A beautiful cathedral that captures the heart and soul of one of the oldest cities established in the new world.
It’s local custom to tie ribbons at the gate in front of the church and say a prayer to the Holy Savior of the Bay of all Saints.
Inside the cathedral and deep rooted in the Afro-Brazillian Candomblé traditions and the Catholic Ex-Voto, the afflicted offer wax casts in body parts to Saints as thanks or hope of healing them.

The Elevador Lacerda in Salvador, Brazil is a historic art deco elevator that offers stunning panoramic views. It connects the upper and lower parts of the city, providing a convenient transportation option for visitors. This iconic landmark has been restored to its original beauty and attracts tourists from around the world. The elevator consists of four separate elevators and can transport passengers 72 meters in less than 30 seconds.
Beautiful elevator with stunning views of the city. At just 15 cents, it is a very affordable way to get to the old city. The observation deck at the top gives you some of the best views in Salavador. It's also closely located to Mercado Modelo, which is convenient. With that said, make sure you don't have any flashy jewlery on you when you go up so you can stay safe.
Pedram Esm — Google review
It cost 0.15 to get up, and 0.15 to get down. Great that's affordable for EVERYONE!
It's just an amazing view from here.
Dayana Alonso — Google review
The view from the top level is truly impressive. You can admire the coastline, the lower town, and the elevator itself. Don't forget to check out the view from both sides of the entrance! The view from sea level is also amazing.
Arkadiusz Jędrzejewski — Google review
A tourist attraction with a lot of history.
⭐ The elevator is very fast and takes you to the upper city in a few seconds
⭐ We did not pay an entrance fee and did not have to wait in a queue
⭐ Nothing else to say or to do. Very straightforward. It is an elevator after all. But fun nonetheless!
Also, prices for souvenirs in the upper city are cheaper than at Mercado Modelo!
B. Jisoon n — Google review
It's very cheap at only R$0.15, and conveniently located. It facilitates a 10 minute walk from the ferry to Pelourinho or from Pelourinho to the market. There may be a bit of a line depending on the time of day that you visit. Can also get a bit hot during the day. There are stunning views from the top, a very popular photo op spot, as well as a famous ice cream shop help you beat the heat. Can't miss it on a visit to Salvador and I definitely recommend taking it at least once.
Andre Whittaker — Google review

A very traditional landmark of the city, this elevator is known as the first public elevator on the entire Amreica. It connects the up and down part of the town (where the Modelo Market is located). The fee to use is very unexpensive - only BRL 0.15 cents. It's also a good place to enjoy the breathtaking view of the All Saints Bay. Unfortunately, the surroundings are not as safe as expected, but note that this is very common for historical cities in Brazil. I do recommend you to be accompanied by a local to avoid unsafe areas and to avoid the local vendors who can be very insisting. As always, enjoy it during the daytime. The elevator doesn't offer a panoramic view (it was not built with this intention), but it has a glass corridor that can be the place for nice pictures.
Felipe Bezerra Lopes — Google review
This place fully recommends having lots of histories and beautiful arquitetura.
Patrick Tharatpol Duangsunitkool — Google review
It's a small pastry and ice cream shop situated right next to the elevator. I have to admit that the ice creams are delicious, generously served, and really cheap. You may choose to get them in a cone or a cup. The 'Pave' flavor is amazing! Pave is a Brazilian cake-like dessert.
Arkadiusz Jędrzejewski — Google review
The history behind the construction is interesting, however it’s not a great place to go. Going up and down costs R$0,15 per visitor and the elevator is too crowded, hot as hell and smells sweat. Great view up there though.

Lacerda Elevator was the first urban elevator in the world when it opened on December 8, 1873 the 63 meters tall elevator takes you from lower town to upper town. A major tourist attractions and photo spot of Salvador. Great views of the bay and the governors palace.

The 2a Praia in Morro de Sao Paulo is a popular beach with people looking for lots of fun during the holidays. It's home to some of the most popular beach bars and restaurants in town, as well as some of the most beautiful views of the ocean. Second beach is definitely beautiful like the rest of the island. It is not quiet at all. There you have a lot of choices in food and drinks and parties. It's always crowded so if you want calm you shouldn't go there.
The Quarta Praia beach in Morro de Sao Paulo is a more secluded, quieter option than the main beaches in town, and is worth walking to after a dip in the water. It's also more vazia than the other beaches in Morro, with many people renting bikes to pedal along the long stretch of sand.
Really liked it. Away from the crowds of the other beaches that are closer to the town centre you'll find a nice beach with very little amount of people (takes a while to get there as you can only get there by foot I think). Because of that, unfortunately this isn't an option for people with reduced mobility. There are a couple of bars that (I think) serve some food (although we didn't eat). Not a place to watch the sunset, best during the morning/day time (till 16:30-17:00)
Isa Alonso — Google review
The beach is beautiful, but for those who want bath or swim, it’s better to keep walking till the second half of the beach

The Pirâmide São Tomé das Letras, located in Sao Thome das Letras, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, offers stunning panoramic views of mountains, valleys, and sunsets. The simple stone hut with a pyramidal roof provides a vantage point to capture beautiful landscapes and meet friendly people from different countries. The town itself is an attractive old stone masonry town with fascinating slate streets to explore on foot.
The "Pyramid" itself is not worth noting, but the location, with a 360° view of all this region of southern Minas Gerais is breathtaking, and the sunset is an spectacle on its own.

Beautiful old stone masonry town. Many interesting places to see while walking all the slate streets. The roads are very bouncy, so rather park your car and see the towm on foot.

Serra dos Órgãos National Park is a vast nature reserve located about 6km south of Teresopolis, Brazil. The park offers an extensive network of hiking routes, breathtaking mountain scenery, numerous waterfalls and natural swimming pools. It is also home to over 400 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. The park's lower section provides visitors with tamer walking trails, tended lawns and gardens perfect for picnics.
One of the most amazing National Parks in Brazil. Petrópolis - Teresópolis trail is a must. Among other attractions are "Dedo de Deus", waterfalls and breathtaking viewpoints.

I hiked from Petropolis to Teresopolis and it was one of the most technically difficult hikes I've done. There is this one part called the "little horse" where the only way to continue is to take your backpack off, grab the rock, swing your leg over the rock, and use your momentum to hoist your body on and over this large rock. Did I mention that this all takes place on cliff where if you fall you die? Yep!
It was worth it and so incredibly beautiful but the trail is no joke! Doable if you do it in 2-3 days (carrying your camping gear) but a lot of altitude! I have hiked 36km/day in the snow, and found this hike to be a challenge physically and mentally.

Housed in the grand palace built in 1845 by Brazil's first emperor, the Imperial Museum offers a comprehensive documentation of Brazil's rich history. Located in Petropolis, a city renowned for its remarkable architectural ensemble including landmarks like Palacio Quitandinha and Academia Petropolitana de Letras, the museum stands as the centerpiece of this historic district. It showcases exhibits that delve into Brazil's imperial past, showcasing artifacts and narratives that shed light on significant events and personalities.
Very enjoyable small museum of Brazilian history in what was the summer palace for the Emperor. Includes the imperial crown, bedrooms, and some nice paintings of old Rio. Good value at R$10.

Museum in Petropolis built during the reign of the last Brazilian emperor Pedro II. Fascinating insight to the imperial family of Brazil, lots of paintings of the emperor, empress and their two daughters. Anyone interested in the 19th century history of Brazil should find this enjoyable. It is worth doing some research on Internet beforehand. My doing so made it more interesting for me. It is not possible to take photos inside. Part of a day trip to Petroplois from Rio de Janiero.

Some great history! No photography is allowed inside, you have to ware slip on shoes over your shoes to walk inside. It’s a smaller museum and doesn’t take much time to see everything. Towards the end there’s a small gift shop with reasonably prices things to buy( Jewlery, souvenirs and such)
Theres bag checks where you buy tickets because there’s no bags allowed inside.

Great museum, it is sad that you cannot take pictures inside. They give you these funny shoe covers which are nice. The gift shop crazy expensive 😂. Really! A magnet costs 45 reals.

Hello sudits,This is our emperors museum. It used to host and cool our Brazillian nobility long time ago.Summer down there in RIO,Brazil is extremely hot with it´s beaches. So,the emperor decided to build this castle for them to shelter while summer very high on the hills, with freezing temperature in the winter and only one hour driving from Rio,their oficial residences and palaces.
The whole Petrópolis town developed by their residences and castle. Was built sanctuaries, and many more castles and architectures for the other members of the emperors family.
It worths your visit,we normally visited there at weekends, always having lots of fun with the requirements and free time of our emperor back them like libraries, european architecture, many castles for his family and made Brazillian economy run from there,at his summer coolness and rest.
Today,Petrópolis is a touristic town, all run by this sector of our economy. It´s obeyed for the kids and schools visiting and knowing our past and history. All in Petrópolis have this mood of tourism and visiting. There are many enterprises and economies but somehow they are part of visits and guides and all at beer factories, clothes tradition and even the farms are second place for our emperors palace and city built for his cool summers here at the tropics.
The principal attractions are for sure the huge nobility that owned this country centuries ago, their huge castles, diamond crowns and all the nobility and most cultured workers following the emperor at his summer and coolness.
Quitandinha is one example of respect and necessaire our emperors culture and economy. Is a huge hotel, just like a castle, but built much later following his patterns and today hosting a museum just by the city entrance and showing much different the Rio with this huge construction never seen from many visitors.
I think one week is enough for you to know all,see the many hotels built for this ancient history and be in the past with queens, kings, princes and all the royal family at that epoque.
Good visit!

A great place to feel closer to Mother Nature. The paths surrounded by tall trees, the mineral water fountains built with an old classic look, the sound of birds, the wind in the trees, and many, many cicadas. I'm born in Caxambu, and live here for almost all my life, and the Water park is like a sanctuary for me, where I feel safe and sound. Last week was my first time swimming in the pool and it couldn't be more fun and pleasing! There's so many good things I could talk about the Park, but just being in a place like this is an experience I can not find words to describe. You'll must feel it yourself.

Casa de Santos Dumont, once the residence of Alberto Santos-Dumont, a renowned Brazilian aviator and inventor, has now been converted into a museum dedicated to preserving his pioneering work in aviation. This heritage museum showcases his significant contributions to the field and serves as a testament to his historical significance. The house, which was specifically designed by Dumont himself, provides visitors with an immersive experience by featuring replicas of his inventions and exhibits that highlight his life and achievements.

Unfortunately, not even half the information in the exhibition are translated into English. Also we didn’t find any film like it’s suggested in other comments. All in all, I’d say that it’s not really worth it if you don’t understand Portuguese very well. Which would be okay, but since the prices and basic information at the entrance are written in English, you’d expect otherwise. House is cute and if you’d like to know how it looks from the inside, it may be worth a visit. If you (again from an English speaking perspective) want to learn about Santos Dumont, you might be better off reading Wikipedia.

Beautiful site with a rich history and gorgeous scale replicas of Santos' creations, and the original house designed by Santos Dumont himself. The entrance fee is decent, and they offer a video (with English subtitles) that tells the true story of Mr. Dumont. This is a must-visit site for fans of aviation history. Keep in mind the stairs are steep (which is part of the original history of the house), but there is an elevator available for people who have difficulty.

The Escadaria Selarón is a colorful public stairway in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil decorated with hand-painted tiles by the Chilean-born artist Jorge Selaron. The stairs became a landmark in the city and are popular among tourists for their photo opportunities.
These beautiful stairs are a must see. They are the work of Chilean artist Jorge Selarón, who made them as a way to show his love to the city. The stairs are made from thousands of pieces of ceramics which were collected or donated, and some even painted by the artist. The area was very safe with many police present, but I would caution against walking too far from the area, as some of the surrounding area is not very safe for tourists. But the immediate area is full of amazing restaurants and souvenir shops, some of which have very unique items.
Pedram Esm — Google review
Beautiful! Just make sure you walk up otherwise you won't see anyrhing. Friendly street cats, drinks and caiparinhas available.
Tourist shops at the bottom and if you get to the top you can continue up to Santa Teresa which is lovely.
Plenty of people talking photos, keep a wary eye of your surroundings but you should be fine because of how busy it is.

We were there at about lunchtime. The weather was extremely hot, and there were a lot of people in the different stages of these steps. However, it is a place that should be visited. There are a lot of incredible tiles on it. And it's worth it to take some time to look for the different ones that are pretty interesting. Also, there's a little bit of shopping opportunity there with art pieces being in offer!
Noelle Marozeau — Google review
What a unique site! The amount of time and effort that went into creating this ever changing work of art is amazing. I found tiles from all over the world, and people for just as many countries visiting to see this site! Do not miss this!

Wonderful sightseeing spot! Very creative and colorful. For me one of the most important stops when in Rio de Janeiro 😊
Most of the countries have its own tile with creative design/s.
Sometimes very crowded, but that’s no big surprise.
Also a nice spot to buy some souvenirs from the vendors on the street or enjoying a cold drink in one of the numberless bars next to it.
And maybe you see some small monkeys jumping around 🐒

Super cool. You could spend all day looking at the different tiles and delighting in the details and imagery. But also a quick stroll up and down the stairs yields a worthy time commitment. Definitely worth checking out!

This is one of the newer spots that tourists have learned to love. Beautiful and colorful! I bought here the most overpriced, watered-down Caipirinha I had in Brazil - but it was totally worth it, it's all part of the experience. It gets pretty crowded, so keep your stuff close!

Cool place to take colorful pics.
It will be a very short visit since to go all the way up won’t take more than 20 min.
Is better to go with day light, otherwise the pics are not so great with the street lights.
An small negative point might be that the surrounding streets don’t feel very safe at night, specially if you’re on your own.

An important part of Rio de Janeiro. It must be seen, although it is very busy, many people stop by to take photos. Here you can have a caipirinha at 5 pesos, or to buy handcrafted jewelry. Be careful at your pockets because many people here don't come to see the stairs 😟.
Overall it is an experience that you must try when in Rio de Janeiro.

Some friends and I took a taxi here it was a Sunday afternoon. I felt perfectly safe walking the stairs lots of activity and lots of people.
All in all I would recommend it just to do it but you're going to be done with the stairs and 20 minutes tops and if you want there's a few restaurants there as well as vendors with souvenirs.

Very beautiful. As someone from Rio, I went there the first time to show my girlfriend who is not from here. And I got very surprised. I should have gone before. It is very interesting. Social media photography and videos spot. It is a beautiful art work. That’s all you can do. Be patient. There’s a lot of people going up and down. We even offered help to take pictures to other tourists and locals. There’s a lot of steps to go up, which I did to meet my steps goals in my exercise app. The area is ok, it isn’t the safest place in the area. But you go and take your pictures and then you keep going.

The work that went into decorating these steps is amazing. I could spend a lot of time looking at all the tiles and mosaics.
This is a great place to take photos and to sit and relax or chill with friends.
It is a lively area in the evening.
No matter the time of day, there will be other people, and they will be in the background of your photos.
There is also cool street art around the corner.

Absolutely beautiful to see and explore. The staircase goes up quite a while so there is plenty to see in the art. Word of advice is to go early before it gets hot and crowded. There are a lot of people seeing a photo opportunity and it is hard to actually look at and appreciate the art of the staircase once it gets busy.

If you already booked a your for one day in Rio, do not worry, they will bring you there!
This escaderia is over 200+ stairs and you can take lots of pictures with beautiful backgrounds. There is a common photo you'd like to take, but there is usually a long queue (at the beginning), my recommendation is to go up and you'll find better spots for pictures

Busy, touristy, bustling with charm, smiles and atmosphere you simply couldn’t find elsewhere.
Hold on to your bags and valuables. We were warned about pickpockets. I didn’t see any, but I can imagine with it being so busy, it’s a prime spot. Common sense should be used.
Would I go again? Absolutely I would. My son needs another pair of £9 raybans, and while he’s buying them, I can admire the beautiful street art that I’ve never been able to find better anywhere

2023 Nov. I had the best visit here. My pictures speak volumes. I was fortunate enough not to have many people around in this busy tourist spot of town. Great weather and time here. Any island I got to locals, to me are always welcoming.
When I visited Escadaria Selarón I was amazed by the beauty and creativity of this place. The stairs are decorated with thousands of colorful tiles from different countries, creating a stunning mosaic that reflects the diversity and vibrancy of Brazil. The artist, Jorge Selarón, was a Chilean who dedicated his life to this project as a tribute to the Brazilian people. He transformed a simple staircase into a masterpiece of urban art and such beauty.
The drinks and food on the way to the top were cheaper than downstairs.
I love the Rio de Janeiro sign, The view from the top was breathtaking and I felt like I was part of a living painting.
Escadaria Selarón is a must-see attraction in Rio de Janeiro. It is not just a staircase, but a symbol of passion, culture, and creativity. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves art and wants to experience the true spirit of Rio.

Overcrowded with a long line at the bottom just to take pics. Walking on toward the top is no better. Enjoy the paintings, don’t worry about trying to a good pic. Also on the bottom there’re a few streets with gangs of people that tourist should avoid walking in. Stick to the Main Street leading up to the steps and be aware of surroundings. This is a very unsafe area as I was almost mugged if without my fighting skills.

Sugarloaf Mountain, located in Rio de Janeiro, offers sweeping views of the cityscape and the bay below. The mountain is accessible by cable car and features a visitor center with displays about the history of the area. Nearby Morro da Urca can also be visited.
Our trip to Sugarloaf Mountain was a blast! We got to the Complex early, hoping to beat the crowd, only to find that others had the same thought. The staff checked IDs and vaccine cards before letting people in. Once in the cable cars, the views were spectacular. This turned out to be a two part trip. The first leg of the journey took us to Urca Morro. There were shops, places to eat, and lookout points for photos or just sitting and enjoying the views. The second leg of the journey took you to Sugarloaf Mountain. The higher viewpoint offered scenic, panoramic vistas of the city, the famous beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana, and the surrounding hills. There were also great seating places, places to eat and shop! There is also a small museum that celebrates the construction of this cable care system. A sidebar note, if you enjoy small quiet beaches, then check out Praia Vermelho and Praia Urca. They are both within walking distance of the Complex!
Glen Wilcott — Google review
I really loved it there.
I would recommend to hike the first part of the journey as it adds to the experience… and for the second part you have no choice but to take a cable cabin.
I’d say that as in every touristy place everything is overpriced there, so maybe keep your shopping for other places, but it’s not the worst if you will buy it there.
Definitely worth going there for beautiful landscapes of Rio!

Definitely recommend doing this. You get to see the best views of Rio. We went during sunset and it was perfect. You got to see the sunset from the first cable car ride. Then you for the city when it was dark. I think place is always busy but the do a good job of moving all the lines quickly. You can spend a few hours up there or a whole day.

That's one thing you absolutely have to do in Rio and in my opinion it's event better than Christ the redeemer. Excellent organization, there were no queues and plenty of stores on both stations in case you want to take a break. Look at the forecasted weather though, if it's cloudy you won't see an thing from the top station !

It’s a must attraction if you’re visiting Río de Janeiro. The cable car is a neat way to reach the top and the views of the city are amazing. You get a 360 view of Rio. Plenty of places to take great pictures. There are restaurants and pubs up top in case you want to get a bite or drink while you’re up there. The cost to go up was $120 reales, worth every penny.
I recommend going around 18hrs so you can see the sunset from the peak of the Sugarloaf.

Beautiful mountain with amazing views! The tickets to go up are not cheap, but going there is definitely worth it! I can recommend buying your tickets online in advance: it saves you some waiting time. You buy a ticket for the whole day and can visit at whatever time you want. Both stops of the teleferico are worth taking your time for: each offers different and beautiful views of Rio de Janeiro. There are toilets, shops and bars at each stop, and plenty of lookout points. For us, our visit here was even more impressive than the Christ the Redeemer statue.

Wow this was better than I expected.
I spent most of my day here.
There are two cable cars that take you up.
Lots of space to take photos and many viewing points.
There are places to buy food and drink and many gift shops. There was also a tattoo parlour.
There is a museum and an old cable car on display.
The views are spectacular, but sadly it did rain while I was there.

Highly recommend if it's your first time in Rio! Great views of all of Rio. Restaurants and bars at the first mountain. We went on a weekday in the afternoon and it was not too busy. At sunset and weekends it gets busy and there is a pretty long line. Great experience!

This is a must on your time in Rio!!!! I recommend coming a bit before sundown so you can enjoy many places on the top and see the view at night, there’s also a trail you can do that I truly recommend

Such unique experience with breathtaking views from the top and funny marmosets. I recommend taking the “stairs” through jungles to the 1st top spot (if you have physical ability to go upstairs for some time) from where you can take a ropeway to the very top.

Highly recommend the trail to the first cable cart stop then take the cable cart up to the top. You navigation through the jungle is intriguing and fun. Appreciate the view and occasionally encounter of the wild animals.

I went there on a Sunday day and there werent so many people. I enjoyed every single angle from all the views and it was so worthy to stay under the hot sun.

I know this is supposed to be one of the top notch tourist attractions in the area, but given that my experience was strongly affected by the weather, I cannot give it 5 out of 5 stars. Also while it is nice that there are some things to see on the platforms on the two mountains, it would have been nice if they have more and better things for tourists in those platforms.

If you are afraid of heights, don't even try it. Otherwise definitely recommend this scenic attraction if you are in Rio.There's several options for gelato, food and drinks, along with helicopter tours. Plenty of spots for pictures of Rio, especially during the night.

One the best experinces when in Rio de Janeiro .
Not to be missed , offering amazing views of the city .
Service was well organised and definitely we felt safe. We bought tickets on location , waiting line goes from 15-30 minutes on weekday .

Absolutely stunning views once you get up there. Only bad thing is that they try to fit a LOT of people in the carts and the ride is super hot and uncomfortable, with everyone just blocking the view.
Best time to do it is early in the morning or 4:00pm the latest. After 5:00pm is super crowded. Plenty of options to have a bite up there.

Pão de Açúcar is a must see place if you’re visiting Rio de Janeiro, we went there right before sunset and it was amazing.
We could see the Cristo Resentor statue at the other side of Rio from here with the sunset beam right next to it.
On the two mountains, there are shops and a couple of bars and restaurants as well as souvenir shops.
There’s also a museum and access to the forest under.
The place is hot of lizards, tiny mico monkeys and birds.
I strongly recommend to buy the tickets online to avoid queuing for hours like many other tourists had to do.

Urca, Rio de Janeiro - State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Christ the Redeemer is a cultural landmark in Rio de Janeiro that offers amazing city views from its base on Corcovado Hill. The 360 degree panoramic view over the city is an incredible opportunity to take in the sights of Rio in one go. The monument is home to many attractions such as the Corcovado Christo Redentor (98-ft.
Incredible landmark. You need to take a few shuttles here but it’s worth it (shuttles aren’t that long). An iconic statue for Brazil and there’s a TON of people. Place gets crowded with a ton of people trying to take good photos. Overall, a nice spot and is worth the visit.
Brandon Leuangpaseuth — Google review
Once again Rio did not fail to amaze me on this experience. What breathtaking views of all of Rio from the top! Also Christ the Redeemer is so big and pictures do it absolutely no justice. I am glad we went at 0900 am because it was not very crowded and we got up to the top extremely quick. Also the weather was in the 60’s so it was perfect. Enjoy the views, take as many photos as you can.
Sean Bryan — Google review
I wasn't sure whether to go to the top to see Christ the Redeemer in Rio but I'm glad I did.
We had heard a lot about how busy it gets so were unsure whether we'd enjoy it but we had a good time.
We took the train up and got to the station at about 7am on a Friday and there was already a queue of about 20 people ahead of us. The first train leaves at 7:20am and I would recommend getting this one or one soon after because it gets very busy as the day goes on! I think going on a weekday also helps.
The train journey up was only about 10 minutes and there were pockets of nice views and lots of trees and leaves - very comfortable way to go up. You can also drive up (or hike which we were told not to do due to sadly safety reasons) so have a look and see what works best for you.
We got to the top and even though we were the first train up, I would say there were still a lot of people up there at that time! We still felt fairly comfortable but it definitely wasn't quiet.
The Christ statue was impressive but what was even more amazing to me were the incredible views of Rio from the top. It's such a beautiful viewpoint on a clear day that I'd highly recommend it just for that.
Worth a visit if you're in Rio!

If you are visiting Rio, you definitely need to make a trip to see Christ the Redeemer. It's a short Uber ride or you can book many of the tours that also provides transportation. We booked a tour with Trip Advisor for $44 that included transportation, admission to Chris the Redeemer and the site tours. Monica was our tour guide and she did an amazing job and spoke 3 languages.
Saran Ouk — Google review
This has to be the number 1 tourist attraction in Rio. You can come to Rio and not go if you are visiting. It’s very easy to Uber there and back. You don’t need to buy tickets in advance. You want to go when it’s a clear day. The only day we could go it was foggy. But the clouds rolled in and out so there was some clear spots where the views were amazing. It gets very crowded go best time is to go early. You can walk up the hill or take a cable car. But it’s best just to take the vans up and down.
Abigail Adamek — Google review
You have to visit if you’re in Rio, and it’s amazing enough to deserve 5 stars. My review is more of the small tactical things that may make your visit better:
Arrive early. Before 8:30 early. I booked the 7:20 am train departure, but ended up going up the hill at 7:40. By the time I was leaving at 9am the line was well out to the street and trains going up the hill were standing room only.
Bring a hat, the direct sun can be brutal! Bring water as well. If you go early beware the cafe is not open until 9am.
Overall be prepared for the lines and rude people going to get shots for the Gram.
Mritunjay Tiwari — Google review
Definitely the best view over Rio de Janeiro!
Despite being very busy, the view definitely is worth it. You will have to take a train from the bottom towards the top, from descending the train you can take an elevator or just climb the stairs to the top. From that point you can see almost the entire city. Up there are coffee shops and gift shops so you can spend some good time.
Marius Telișcă — Google review
Took an Uber to the base and bought a ticket in the tram station. There was no line. It was a great experience. There is also a little cafe if you get thirsty or hungry on your way up to the statue. There are a couple of souvenir stores too. Great views from the top.

One of the best places to visit in Rio. Transportation to reach the redentor can be challenging. Recommend visiting before 10a, can be very packed after. Alternative option to take a scenic train.

A must... breathtaking. I recommend going as part of a tour, if you're not from Rio. There's definitely a process, a series of queues to get up there. There are several gift shops and views above the clouds. There are lots of people up there, and monkeys 😊

Christ the Redeemer is simply breathtaking. When I first laid eyes on this monument atop Corcovado Mountain, I felt a thrilling mixture of admiration and reverence. The unique view it offers of the city and the coastline is unparalleled.
The towering silhouette of Christ harmoniously embraces the mountain's surroundings, evoking a sense of tranquility and religious awe. This monument is synonymous with Rio de Janeiro, and rightfully so, as it stands as one of the most impressive global symbols.
Access is easy, and the experience of ascending via the tram adds to the excitement. Additionally, the facilities and amenities for visitors are excellent.
Manolis Tsal — Google review
Be prepared lots of stairs to climb. The last two floors have an escalater. Look for the elevator though... Didn't see it until coming down. Lots and lots of people, I couldn't get past them without a struggle. Many taking up space on the ground to get that perfect picture view😬. Come on people, take in the view with your eyes, it is absolutely breath taking! Bucket list? DON'T THINK TWICE!!! A must!👍🏼

This is an honest overview for a first-time visitor stuck in line during rush hour and peak summer heat. This is of course a must-see when visiting Rio, however the experience can be quite miserable and painfully slow if you don’t plan properly.
The drop off site is for the train station (more like a tram) up through the forest to the monument. The best time to go is right when it opens and it is best to buy tickets online ahead. If you show up after 10:30am, you will wait in a spiraling queue just to buy a ticket for the train up to the site. The line can take 1.5 hours just to purchase a ticket. There will be a person going through the line with a card machine to sell tickets or if the person doesn’t make it to you, you can buy a ticket at the box office near where the train boards. Once you get the ticket, there is still a long wait to get on the train. There are only about two trains operating and they fit maybe 75 people. The train takes 20 minutes to get to Christ the Redeemer. The monument is packed with people, shoulder to shoulder. I’d say 20-30 minutes at the monument is more than adequate for some nice photos and to look at the view, with so many people it’s not enjoyable to be there.
During rush hour it could take another hour to hour and a half to wait for the train and get back to ground level. All in all, during peak rush hour, allocate about 4-5 hours from start to finish for this experience. Opting for a van or private cab to the top would probably be more ideal if it’s crowded.
Tl;dr: Book ahead and go early otherwise it will be a long wait! The train system doesn’t feel very efficient, however there are also thousands of people coming every day to see it, which this really can’t accommodate well.
Allison L. — Google review
We were planning to take the train up the mountain but were approached by a sales lady when we got out of the Uber. She offered us a van service that would take us on top of the mountain and include two additional viewpoint before the final stop for R50 each person round trip, so we agreed to it. The van service took us to the middle point with a great view of Rio! Then it drove us the visitor center. Since the van service runs the whole day, we were able to take the van back afterwards too.

It does have a historical significance. There is absolutely no doubt about it. Your presence around the tower will definitely bring you back in time and will make you appreciate the depth of history it contains. But in terms of structure, its just another old building. I might be wrong but there's not a lot of recreation around this place. Just a park, like any other. No offence intended though.

Beautiful view, great experience, only spent about 20min because that was all there was to see besides the view of the city. This has always been a destination that I wanted to see. I finally did, and in 2023, I will say it's worth it 100%. It's a short ride to the top. Get their early. I recommend buying the fast pass ticket (skip the line). There will be lots of people, and trying to get a picture might be tough. The staff is nice and very helpful. If you get a chance get the experience yourself

The trip up the mountain was very scenic. You got to see nature at its finest. Even though this place can get crowded, the people are aware and not confrontational. You are able to see the city on a 360 view.

One of the best place to observe the whole Rio De Janeiro. You can see the copa cabana and ipanema beach from there. Also this is nice place to observe the race course and the domestic airport. To get there you need a guide. Otherwise it is sometimes difficult. There are specific visiting time on different days. You will be transported to point by minibus and then you can walk down the staircase or you can take the lift. Usually there is a long que if you want to take a photo with the statue.

One must not miss this attraction in Rio De Janeiro. A 20 min train ride to the top but due to the usual crowds even on weekday and off shoulder periods, you’ll have to wait for the electric train. As you board the train, try to take the seats on the right hand side for a better view of the bay.
After you get off at the fourth and last stop, take an elevator to the base of the statue. Saves you about 6 flights of stairs.
Finally, manoeuvre your way in the maddening crowd to take the best pics of the statue and the panoramic scenery.

Of course, it was worth the visit when in Rio, I would recommend booking in advance and coming early as the train to go up takes some time. Or you can also take an Uber ride to the top. But I highly recommend the train as it's a very nice ride through the jungle with some views of the city. It might be packed at the top. We had a guide, which was helpful as he was able to jump the queue.

The statue is an essential visit while in Rio! You can reach this point by taking a funicular (train), a van, or by hiking.
The main funicular station allows you to buy tickets in person using cash at a box office or using a credit card at one of the electronic kiosks on the station platform. They are timed tickets so pay attention to the time. Prices also vary by day!
The van can be reserved for pickup at Ipanema, Copacabana, or at the visitor center near Christ the Redeemer. You'll have to get a ride up to the visitors center somehow if you choose that pickup location.
You can hike here by starting at Parque Lage. It will take you a solid four hours uphill but it's free and you'll see wildlife and waterfalls along the way. Just bring water and prepare to sweat.
At the top you'll find snacks and drinks. There's a restaurant and even a small chapel for prayer. There are wild monkeys so be careful and keep your distance. The Redeemer statue has multiple platforms. There is an amazing view of Rio from the lowest one. Try to be here at sunset for the best views!

202 Nov.17 We took a train the first time up. The second time we hiked. Any popular tourist site I’ve visited, I’ve been blessed not to have crowds. Just go very early if you can.
As one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, this massive 30-meter (100-foot) tall statue offers stunning views over Rio.
They do have stairs to the top from the train station, but one can take an elevator and an escalator. There are also 2 chapels that can be visited.
The train ride up is a must. It is was so iconic to arrive and marvel Christ the Redeemer. This site is a must see. Powerful visit and experience.

First of all, still no second coming. Kind of a let down right?
Ok but seriously, jokes aside, the statue itself is definitely 5/5. Beautiful, with great views, a must-see, fully recommended.
What makes it 2/5 though is the staff. The whole place is a tourist trap. First they try to make money of you trying to sell you tickets literally 15meters from the ticket booth, looking very official, but having double prices. The local “security” boss just looks at it. Read some other reviews that these guys actually cooperate.
DON’T buy anything unless you’re at the booth.
Then they want to take a photo of you standing in front of a green screen. Those museum/stadium tour kind of pics as if you’re standing right in front of Jesus.
Which they print up at the hill (whether you like it or not, awful waste of photo-paper), and try to make you buy it.
A guy next to me had to turn them down multiple times, as unsuccessful employee was replaced by a more skillful one.
DON’T let them take any pictures of you (unless you want one 😄) - you’ll save yourselves a lot of “no” and a bad feeling when coming back down.
After getting down, some other guys try to get you to their restaurant of course. But this one is kind of expected and easy to avoid.
The thing, the place, the view is of course a must see. Don’t miss it.
But be careful. It’s top 3 Rio experience.
People raking in commissions are everywhere, waiting for you to slip.

Copacabana is Rio de Janeiro's most famous and crowded beach, with a wide expanse of sandy beachfront flanked by mountains in the background and high-rise hotels in the foreground. It's a great place to stroll and people watch, with vendors selling all sorts of souvenirs from replica Christ statues to hats, T-shirts and sarongs in the evenings.
Nice long beach! I felt safe as a tourist especially during carnaval. Lots of people, celebrating all the way in the metros. Never a dull moment in Brazil!

Legendary beach with beautiful sand but that’s pretty much it. Overly crowded? vendors bothering you every minutes even when you pretend to sleep.
It’s worth checking out if you are in Rio because it is Copacabana after all but I’d rather spend my time at Ipanema or Leblon.
About $R10 to rent a chair and umbrellas are $R15-25 depending in size.

Beautiful beach scenery with wide paving stones to walk along the shoreline. The sand is pristine and white and in distance the unique Rio bay surrounds in a circular direction. Mountain tops and beaches with residential high-rises. The water looks lovely and went for swim but there's a sewerage issue still. I tried to avoid swallowing the water but this is difficult and ultimately caught a stomach bug. Stalls and various kiosks line the sidewalk some of which are worth checking out.

My family and I enjoyed our time at Copacabana beach. Apart from being world famous, there are also a number of areas to go depending on what you like doing. It is divided in areas demarcated by flags from 1 through 6. Each area has a place where you can buy drinks and food items, as well as a water source to get the sand off you when you decide to leave. There are areas that have nets for Beach games, like volleyball. There are areas that have outdoor weight lifting. Other area with free-standing pullup and dip stations. While others are just made for kicking back, soaking in the sun, and enjoying the view of the ocean in between people watching! If you enjoy the beach. You should not miss this one!

The sun-soaked heart of Rio de Janeiro, Ipanema Beach is a long and popular stretch of sand that's known for its mellow ambiance and excellent sunbathing. The beach is also great for playing soccer and volleyball, as well as taking in some of the city's sights - such as Corcovado (a 98-foot-tall mountaintop statue of Jesus Christ) and the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro (an opera house).
You can explore all three beaches Copacabana. >> Ipanema >>Leblon, just by walking. It will take 45 mins walking on flat ground or you can dip your toes in the sand and feel the nice water wash against your legs walking along the shore.
I recommend walking from Copacabana towards Leblon. This way you can visit the ‘Vidigal’ or ‘ the Two Brothers Mountain Lookout’ which is on the side of Leblon beach.
Vidigal
Take an UBER to ‘Vidigal’ on google maps, or ‘Nosso Hotel’ which is located at the same base. Once arrived, you need to walk through the park to where a group of moto taxi drivers are hanging out, they charge 10 BRLs each way.
They drive you to the top, bring a helmet if you can. Walk through the path with the big garbage cans, You can go walk into the bar ‘ALTO VIDIGAL’ for a free fantastic panoramic view of Rio, walking down to the second floor.
Although Vidigal is a flavella, It is the most tamed because of the tourist traffic, so the government installed police at the base and at the top. It is a good way to get exposure to a flavella, but I would not recommend flirting with the other flavellas where the danger is real.

Awesome beach, great views and not as busy as Copacabana. Waves are pretty big here, especially as you're trying to go in or out - be careful of the breaking zone.
Sunlounger 15 real, ample food/drink people but not an overload.
Had to take 1 star off because the waves were so big first time I went in, lost my glasses :/ Nonetheless, came back to swim here at least 3 more times, these big waves are amazing to swim in, provided you're a reasonably competent swimmer. Lots of surfers around too.

This beach is iconic and although Playa Flamenco in Puerto Rico has “whiter” bleach white sound, this one’s sand has a yellow or off white sugar glow to it, that is stunning. The beach is safe, just remember to not wear a lot of jewelry and be mindful of your belongings. Treat this beach like you’re in a large city and you’ll be fine. We never left our belongings unattended and also renting chairs from someone provides extra security as they take care of you. But again, treat it like the large city you are visiting. We rented a chair and umbrella from a man who was very kind and helpful. We did get accosted by one person who tried to take our rented chair and finally I utilized my Portuguese lesions and blended my very direct response in Spanish and the man left us alone. It’s ok to speak up but for the most part, it was a great experience and so many local people were kind and helpful. The pictures are not photoshopped and don’t do this beach justice.

Ipanema is a vibrant neighborhood located in the southern region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It's renowned for its beautiful beaches, lively atmosphere, and cultural diversity. Here's some information about Ipanema and Ipanema Beach:

Best beach in Rio de Janeiro.
Gets busy but great to spend the day.
On sundays the road is closed so you can walk or ride on the road.
Amazing free gym at the beginning.

Seems like it was a beach more for the locals. Waves were a bit bigger than Cococabana Beach

Better than copacabana beach.. near the rock on left, couple bad boys making annoying approach .. just be cautious n leave the spot.. not worth the hassle..
The Curupira Recreio dos Bandeirantes beach is a stunning getaway located in the Atlantic Forest reserve. The peaceful and serene beach is perfect for a day of relaxation with views of Pontal peninsula. There are several snack bars and restaurants nearby that offer great views of the ocean.

We were there in November. A very interesting place. Luxury hotels and apartments are located next to the exotic, noisy, narrow streets of the favela.

Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Rio de Janeiro - State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Prainha Beach is a stunning and peaceful crescent of sand flanked by rainforest-covered mountains. It's popular with surfers, but also great for families who want to get away from the hectic crowds on the main beaches. The sand here is soft and white, the waves are blue and big, and there are a few kiosks selling food and drinks.
The best beach I've ever been to in my entire life. Jumping in the waves brought new life to my soul. Obrigado Deus.

The beach itself is amazing, beautiful it blends the city with nature, just by turning around a corner.. Great options to eat seafood based meals and an amazing spot for surfing. Which makes it not so welcoming to swimmers, cause there usually are a lots of waves. Phone reception over there is really bad, so getting an uber to leave the place might be an ordeal, i'd recommend a car, a bycicle or accept the fact that you might have to walk back part of the way before u can get Internet again (but there is a chance that u'll get internet over there).

Amazing scenery beach in Rio. Great for those who surf.
Families are welcome too.
I recommend you to visit it before 11h am specially during the weekends when it gets crowded.

One of Rio' best beachs, prainha is small and full of natural florest. It is loved by the surf community.

Great beach in a little cove. Water is great, ground is firm unlike other beaches, and waves are pretty good sized to body surf and swing in.

I call this place the Hawaii of Rio!! It is beautiful, clean, safe and full of waves. The restaurant located at the point is pretty tasty and a little pricy. Prainha is a must when visiting Rio!!!

Lovely beach. Go during the day, while the sun is up! Just make sure it doesn't get dark while you are at Prainha beach, we couldn't find a taxi and struggled a bit as wifi connection didn't work well either.
