Absolutely beautiful! Great guides that helped us all along the way. They actually weren't even open the day we came but graciously accommodated us. They started a fire when we returned to their lodge and gave us complimentary hot chocolate. Fantastic experience!

Revisited recently, still as beautiful!

Wow! The falls should be on the 'must see' list for every visitor and resident alike! The falls can be seen from afar, and once you enter and pay the fee ($2 or $3), it's a relatively easy climb up to the base of the falls. The views can't be beat, and there is supposedly a secondary trail leading up higher, but I wasn't that adventurous that day. It is an incredible experience, not to be missed.

Gorgeous waterfall! Absolutely amazing. There are many cute little spots to take pictures. They were not active while we visited, but there are also ziplines and a swing that takes you over the pool that the waterfall goes into. This place is not visited very often and so we had it mostly to ourselves, save maybe 6 other people. The pathway to get to the waterfall is well marked and relatively short, maybe 1/4 mile. It is steep and very slippery so be very careful.

(Translated by Google) Excellent service. The explanations so that everything goes well were very good. It is worth the cost. On the other hand the spectacular landscapes. tired but great

Excelente servicio. Las explicaciones para que todo vaya bien fueron muy buenas. Vale la pena el costo. Por otra parte los paisajes espectaculares. Cansado pero buenisimo

We visited the waterfalls and had lunch after. The view is breathtaking. We stopped to eat at a nearby restaurant. The food was good.
Our guide went for a swim at the bottom of the waterfall. I was a bit winded after climbing to the first level, but the second climb was not bad.

Beautiful place nice to see it and feel it
Jan Urban — Google review
Giron waterfall is a pretty short climb up stairs anyone can do, but if you're up for it physically you should NOT pass on the second waterfall - La Segunda Cascada, it's about 1-2 hours of pretty rapid climb or more if you want to take your time, and some parts are quite steep but well worth the way there, both the waterfall and the view.
Emanuell Harnik — Google review
A fantastic place to walk and enjoy marvelous scenery.
Piotr Kalinowski — Google review
We only did the first part of the waterfall and it is a huge one. I highly recommend seeing this waterfall if you are near Cuenca. We will be going back to take the longer hike and see the even larger waterfall.
Eddie Barlow — Google review
Beautiful water falls it is a steep hike but not very long. Make sure after you stop at the bottom of the falls and get pics keep going up the trail a short distance to get a better view from above. The swing is also free to try if you are adventurous. The local restaurant the last house on the left was very "local" and plain but was good and no one got sick from it.
Av Mirador de Turi is a narrow road that runs along a cliff, offering several lookout points with breathtaking panoramic views of Cuenca. This picturesque city, nestled in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador, is renowned for its well-preserved colonial historic center, featuring cobblestone streets, ornate churches, and charming plazas.

Pumapungo is a museum in Ecuador that houses exhibitions on local culture and ethnography as well as an extensive collection of Inca ruins. The highlight of the museum is its collection of indigenous cultures, which includes displays on Afro-Ecuadorian, cowboy-like montubios from the western lowlands, rainforest groups from various parts of the country, and all major highland groups.
Very nice museum. Lots of history of different areas of Ecuador. The botanical gardens were lovely as were the bird enclosure. Entrance is free.

This is a unique museum because it has indoors space, outdoors space that you can explore, garden and semi zoo because there is a space where you will see colorful birds (not a big fan of the small cages though) and some ducks and fishes by the small lake.
Best of all, entrance is free.
The museum is walkable if you are staying in the city center.
Hikeric Zumba — Google review
This is a free museum where you can enjoy different types of expositions. There is always something new to see except for the exposition about the regions of Ecuador. You can also see some of the Incas old settlements and the area for the protected birds.

The entrance was free. The explanation in the museum was in Spanish most of the time, so we had to use a lot of google translate. But at some part they add explaining in English. The park outside was really beautiful and fun. You can see animals and the inka remains. In general a really nice experience
Yarden Nativ — Google review
Beautiful museum. Allot at least 3 hours to walk around the museum and the ruins. Also remember to bring a mask as it is currently necessary in order for entry.

such a neat and expansive museum. several different exhibits with different themes. many of them are interactive, so you can draw or make art - i really love museums that invite you into the experience like this. i have been twice and easily spent 3+ hours each time. so awesome that it's free!!

Although a bit out of the way, Pumapungo should be high on your list of things to do in Cuenca.
Entry is free - just sign in at the entrance. This is one of the most extensive historical/cultural museums in Cuenca. Make sure you explore the different floors, which include exhibits on art, money, culture and clothing of the indigenous tribes, and even shrunken heads. Although you may not need to spend a ton of time there, the museum is definitely worth a walk through.
But that's not all. Between the museum and the orchestra building, you can pass to the back side of Pumapungo to visit the hillside Cañari ruins and park.
This was apparently a sacred site for this powerful tribe. Although no full structures have been preserved, you can see the outline of their buildings and terraced agriculture, an underground cave, and water system.
As you continue down the hill, you'll find a large display garden of the many local crops and native plants. There is also a small outdoor aviary with stunning birds from the region as well as a few llamas on the hillside. (The lower gate to the riverwalk is no longer open so you will need to hike a short hill to enter and exit.)

Awesome mix of open air and indoor museum. You have the best of both words there, great explanations about the several indigenous groups in Ecuador, their history, culture and the changes that happened throughout the years. There is a group of llamas outside of the museum. The only thing I didn't like about this museum is the caged birds.
Deric Lima (Zuka) — Google review
A lovely free museum. Although the building is huge, there were not a lot of items on display. However, those that are give a great cultural perspective on the people of Ecuador. In addition, the grounds include Incan ruins, a bird menagerie, and paths for walking. I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys any of these activities.

A truly amazing experience. A large collection of relics, a chance to walk through the ruins with almost no one in sight, a collection of plants from the entire region under the same garden, mixed with a sense of timelessness, and nostalgia. Take your time, walk slow, and take it all in. 10/10

Free museum with incredible pieces — including the real small heads. Nice external area but couldn’t understand the point of the birds in such smalls cages.

Loved this museum. It has three levels with artifacts on the main floor and ethnographic museum on the second. And of course, there are the Inca ruins, which are pretty cool. But we loved the garden, the bird rehabilitation center, and the garden. Lovely. You should check it out.
frank callis — Google review
Interesting and informative, if a bit limited in scope. The displays of local antiquity and culture are detailed, but the collection is not vast and can be viewed entirely in less than two hours. Some English translations are available. The upstairs displays of local culture are truly immersive and should not be missed. The Inca gardens outside are beautiful and very photo friendly.

Rio Tomebamba is a beautiful river that flows through much of Cuenca, offering the perfect setting for various activities such as exercising, walking, having a picnic, or strolling with pets. The stunning landscapes along the riverbanks make it a must-visit spot. Visitors can also find tranquility by sitting and reading by the river or simply connecting with nature. It's an ideal place to spend time alone or with someone special while enjoying the peaceful sound of birds and feeling the gentle breeze.

I'll never travel to Banos without this trip planner again
The Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Cuenca, Ecuador was begun construction in the late 1800s and completed in the 1930s. The cathedral features three blue & white domes and Romanesque-revival architecture. It is also known as the "new cathedral" because it was built after an earlier cathedral burned down.
Beautiful church! Prettiest one we’ve seen in Ecuador.
Chris & Lisa — Google review
Wow, wow, wow! This cathedral makes other cathedrals pale in comparison. It's scale and grandeur totally blew me away. It's impressive both in the day and at night, although I'd recommend visiting in the day, as you can enter. And it opens at 7am, so there's really no excuse not to.
It has distinctive blue stripes domes which are even painted blue inside too. The grand entrance, which remains closed until major events is jaw dropping. The front is relatively flat and basic, but beautiful nonetheless. But the real draw is when you enter. It's absolutely enormous and it's decorated so beautifully with incredible marble.
It's also free to enter, unlike many similar places, but you are asked not to take photos and videos during services, out of respect. Likewise, you're asked to dress appropriately, so please, no flip flops and short shorts. There's also an interesting scale model of the building inside.
Hidden Findings — Google review
Walk up the 111 steps to the top floor for $2 and enjoy the best 360 degree view of town. Access the walkup in the alley between the old convent (now a restaurant mall) and the church.

Is an amazing place to take photos and know how people tend to build churches before, you have to walk a lot of stairs but the views are worth it
José Peñaherrera — Google review
Cuenca's new cathedral. This was completed in 1975 - or almost completed. You'll notice under the statue of Mary at the top, there is a crack going down the face of the church. When placing the statue, they realized that the church would not hold the weight of the two towers they had planned, so they left the stumps of the tower and called it a day.
Entry into this cathedral is free and services are held there on a daily basis.
To climb a tower to El mirador de la Catedral (viewpoint at the Cathedral) or descend into the crypt below, you would pay a small fee at the office. The rooftop terraza has views of Parque Calderón.

Catedral architecture is awesome, it has a lot of years of history, for me the most impressive things are domes and doors. Catedral is in the historical center, it is very safe and you can walk at night without problem. These days are cold, so I recommend to wear warm clothes.

Beautiful church, definitly worth it to go upstairs to the platform!!
Jana R. Reinel — Google review
If you’re in Cuenca, you have to take a trip here. It cost $2 to take a trip upstairs, you have an amazing view from the top of the church.
Lalo — Google review
Very beautiful church. Peaceful inside doesn’t matter how hectic outside is.
Tin Nguyen — Google review
As a Catholic, you should take a moment to go inside and pray, even better if you attend Mass (check the schedule). If not, be respectful of a holy place. You can still visit, but may not talk, take pictures or make noise.
The best shots of the cupolas are either from the other side of Plaza Calderón (the park in front of the cathedral) or from behind, where the flower market is. You can access the roof by a side door located in a corridor that you may miss between the temple and the inner patio where the restaurants are located.
Pablo Moysam — Google review

THE must do in cuenca.
You can get on top of the cathedral through the tower on the right sight. It is cheap, $2 per person for the terrace access, for $6 you can get a tour included the catacombs!
The view from terrace is stunning, a 360 degrees of cuenca!
The cathedral itself is beautiful, and the inside is nice!
Calderon Park, located in the heart of Cuenca, is a small landscaped square surrounded by government buildings and two churches. The park features a monument to Abdon Calderon, a hero of the city's independence, as well as eight tall pines brought from Chile and planted by President Luis Cordero. Visitors can take a few minutes to rest and admire the city's majestic architecture while enjoying the shade of large trees.
An amazingly beautiful park where locals sit and enjoy the peaceful park in the middle of the old section of town. Definitely worth a visit. Especially because there are so money historical buildings surrounding the park. A perfect place to sit after visiting the area.

It’s Cuenca’s historical central square🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨 and a UNESCO-designated world heritage site.
— Originally known as Plaza Republica, it was renamed in the 1930’s to honor Abdon Calderon, a local 18-year old who fought at the war of independence of Ecuador.
— At center of the square is a memorial statue of a wounded young man holding on the flag of Independence of Ecuador.
— The square is bound by two colonial cathedrals on opposite sites, along with similar colonial buildings that now house businesses.
— On one corner is the Azuay Government building, on another is the Azuay Courthouse.
It’s a very well maintained square: tiled walkways, old trees providing canopy on a hot day, enclosed flower plots, polished benches.
A very pleasant place to sit😎😎😎😎😎.

Cajas National Park is a nature lover's paradise, boasting over 230 lagoons including Lagartococha, Osohuaycu, Quinoascocha, La Toreadora, Sunincocha and Tinguishcocha. Visitors can engage in various activities such as horseback riding, camping and sport fishing. The park offers ample parking for those arriving by car and clean facilities at the entrance.
I can’t really add to what others have said, other than as an endorsement. For me, with ample parking (which we didn’t use) for those arriving by car, with bathrooms at the entrance to the park—which is approximately two miles down, then up a cobblestone road leading from the main highway, and with the natural beauty to be discovered within the boundaries of the park there’s not much more to be said. I’ve been here twice now and it has been immaculately clean. There are well marked trails around the lake, but there’s also a good trail, though very muddy in places, leading much deeper into the park. It leads two two other beautiful lagoons before rejoining the main highway about ten miles uphill.

This place is beyond outstanding. The paths are well marked and well taken care of, and to do a walk around the lake is sublime. We were lucky enough to run into a herd of llamas which only added to the beauty

Wonderful place to go hiking! The times calculated for the duration of hikes is very generous, we walked slowly and took breaks and still needed a lot less time.
Getting there without a car was easier than expected. We took a bus from Cuenca (2 USD) which took roughly an hour, on the way back we waited less than an hour to get a return bus.

Cajas national park is a stunning site filled with lagoons. It's a very nice place to do some hiking. We did a guided hike with Wilson which was amazing.
Pro tip: Cajas sits on roughly 4,000 meters so the wind is pretty strong there. Bring some jackets and something for your ears.
Beautiful plaza and lovely park with a bazaar of arts & crafts, jewelry and surrounded by beautiful shops of remarkable jewelry all made from gold and silver, this village historic center is absolutely adorable and is a UNESCO world heritage site for good reason, it's serene and charming. A little bit of orchid heaven.
When you enter the store you're greeted by a beautiful aroma. I knew little about orchids, but the sale lady was very knowledgeable, and explained the care and feeding to me (in Spanish).
So a great place to explore, learn, and buy orchids and associated products at a fair price.

Didn't get to go inside or up close or learn much about the templo—what some would consider the main feature of the ruins here—perhaps because some students were studying it or reconstructing it at the time, saw some scaffolding and half a dozen jovenes dusting the stones—I don't really know, my guide didn't say anything about the templo, when we arrived here at the end of the tour she simply broke the news that we owed her more money because, unbeknownst to us, she was a "private guide" not included in the admission price, even though we had not personally contracted her, the complejo had called her in for us when we purchased the tickets. See my review of the tourist trap "complejo" for more, but suffice it to say Ingapirca no vale la pena ni la plata, güey, vete a Cajas o El Chorro de Giron para disfrutar esta región de véras.

Hacienda La Danesa
Hotel
Sights & Landmarks
Country-chic quarters in a genteel rural farmstay offering a restaurant & horseback riding.
Yvonne was very very friendly. The rooms Are really beautiful and the Food is also really good.
I really can recommend the Hacienda La Danesa.
Only the mosquitos around there are annoying.
Sammy Quetzal — Google review
One of the loveliest haciendas on the planet. The architecture and appointments in the rooms and common area are sheer perfection. Whoever designed the buildings and the interior must be at the top of their respective industries. That being said, the price is steep for the location. We booked the Garden Cottage along with the meal plan and two extra excursions (beekeeping--incredible!) and (cloud forest waterfall hike--stunning!) and the cost added up to over $1,000 a day. Service is excellent, and though meal preferences don't always translate well, the quality and presentation of the food is outstanding. Try Myra's empanadas! And the hot chocolate was the best I ever had.
If you are looking for peaceful luxury, this is the place! So beautiful.

My group of six (4 adults, 2 nine year olds) made a day trip here from Guayaquil on our way to the Galapagos. What a great spot. Impeccably decorated, very well-trained and attentive staff, excellent food, and fun activities. Highly recommended; we wish we could have spent a night there.

Loved Hacienda La Danesa! The service was excellent, the food was excellent, and we really enjoyed the activities! The property is beautiful and it is such a peaceful setting to escape the city and just enjoy the sights and sounds of the plantation. The staff were above and beyond helpful. We only did a day trip and I wish we had time to spend a few nights.

What an excellent surprise beautifully presented in the low lands of a forest and plantation. Down a long drive you come to a modern ranch style home. Every detail is cared for everyone has your enjoyment at forefront. We are sole amazing food all freshly cooked, made chocolate from. Picking the pod to the end result, wonderful. The rooms are beautiful, you lay in bed looking out of the plantation. Highly recommended and very privileged thank you all.

La Danesa was such an amazing place. The hacienda was absolutely beautiful, and our room was so comforting and relaxing. Sarai was so accommodating and cheerful. The food was defiantly the most memorable as it was the best food we had during our time in Ecuador. Allyson was a great guide and so fun to be around. Wilson showed us amazing waterfalls, as well as the rituals behind them. Benny took us horseback riding and was so patient with us. Josue and Jocelyn were very kind and took great care of us during our meals! Xiomara taught us how to make chocolate and the specific process behind it which turned into us making our own chocolate bars. John took us tubing and to the farm to teach us the behind-the-scenes of the cocoa plant. It was a great way to end our vacation and added to our time in Equador!

Photos simply cannot do this stunning property justice. The level of attention to detail is truly remarkable. From the moment you arrive and are greeted by the wonderful Ivonne to the first glimpse of your room you will wish you had booked more nights. What a place!!

Perfect place to relax. The farm has teak forests, cacao plantations and a variety of animals you can interact with (ride horses, milk a cow, guinea chickens, geese and more. ).
Hosts and staff are very attentive. Expect some refreshments upon arrival. You can learn the process of making chocolate from a cacao bean, down to making your own chocolate bars after tempering the chocolate. A small store offers products for home (placemats, teak spoons, cutting boards, etc. ) and more (purses).

They perfect compliment to your Galapagos trip; a detour to the Ecuadorian coast countryside with cows, tubing, horseback-riding, hiking, cacao harvesting, chocolate making and more! Hacienda La Danesa is great for honeymooners, getaways with friends, family trips and more!
Amazing group. We took them to cloud forest and it was a great trip to see local sugar cane production, hike to a waterfall, and eat a local lunch. Trip is definitely worth doing for all and even kids of all ages.
From our experience the bugs were limited but bug spray is needed.

Did the waterfall hike. Pickup on time by Wilson and he was a fantastic guide. We had ample restroom breaks, and he suggested several different levels of trails to choose from. Wilson customized the tour for my level of ability. I wore a bathing suit, long sleeve quick drying shirt, and sturdy closed toe water sandals. Afterwards we enjoyed an authentic Ecuadorian meal at a small local restaurant. Recommend

We had an amazing time on two different tours with Bucay Adventures.
The first tour we took was a guided hike to the Piedra Blanca waterfalls. This amazing tour included repelling down a 30 m waterfall, with all the equipment included.
The second adventure we took with them was an afternoon on the river that runs through Bucay white water rafting! It was our first time doing anything like this and the professional level of Bucay Adventures made sure we had an amazing and fun time the whole day!

Just north of the Laguna de Colta stands the first catholic church of Ecuador, founded by the conquistadores on august 15, 1534. The very simple church has an altar built from large stones where a sea of flowers always adorns a small Mary statue. In clear weather, the beautiful white peak of the Chimborazo can be seen from here. It is certainly worth pausing your trip here.

We did the mid-long mtb tour on Chimborazo. Galo took a lot of time to explain us the tour and procedure in detail the evening bevor. Safety equipment is in good shape, bikes are a bit outdated but in good condition and more than sufficient to bike down the Vulcan safely. We can highly recommend to do the tour with Pro Bici, the are very well experience and took care to give the customers a special experience.

Amazing experience! This company uses different trials than all the other companies. Truly in the country side riding on dirt roads instead of the asphalt road like other companies. Very calm and professional with me. Had a great opportunity to go to a unique forest to eat lunch as well. This tour is a bit difficult, yet doable for people seeking adventure! Possibly the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.

Very friendly people, however quite unorganized. Our introduction took more than 2 hours after we had to wait 40min for someone to appear at their office (which btw is a huge mess). In between we had to run to the supermarket before it closes, as you have to buy your own drinks and food for the tour. Too much hustle for an organized tour of this price...we opted out in fear that the tour will be as unorganized and lengthy as the introduction the day before.
Therefore, despite everyone being very friendly I would not recommend the tour.
Located on the northeast side of Parque Pedro Vicente Maldonado, the catedral de San Pedro de Riobamba stands as the main church of its diocese. This Roman Catholic cathedral boasts a simple interior design and a noteworthy Baroque facade adorned with numerous medallions. Following the devastating earthquake of 1797 that obliterated its predecessor, construction of the present-day church commenced in 1810 and concluded in 1835.
... historical place where every stone has something to tell!

On the northeast side of the Parque Pedro Vicente Maldonado is the catedral de San Pedro de Riobamba, the main church of the diocese of the same name. This Roman Catholic church with its simply designed interior is mainly notable for its Baroque facade, decorated with many medallions. After the old cathedral was destroyed in 1797 by the most severe earthquake in Ecuadorian history (8.3 on the Richter Scale), the current church was built between 1810 and 1835. The cathedral, especially the facade, is one of the finest examples of Plateresque architecture and with a mix of indigenous and colonial elements.

Recommendations: wear rubber boots whether it rains or not because the road is full of mud. If you camp, you must contact the park in advance. It is recommended to have done trekking before because otherwise it can be very difficult. It is an experience that is worth it.

The 'yellow lake' or laguna amarilla, is one of the most stunning place in Ecuador. You can camp with your own tent if you walk untill the end of the valley, passing the cottage. Better to go when it's not raining and wear boots!

I'm amazed by the beauty of this place, the volcano is magestic. Definitely worth all the walking in mud for hours. You can camp in here and go see the many lakes surrounding the volcano.
Amanda Enriquez — Google review
Laguna amarillo and the surrounding areas are some of the most beautiful surroundings I have ever seen. The views are absolutely stunning and for anyone able to make the 2 day trek with their own camping gear, I would totally recommend it.
However, avoid Candetur tour company at all costs. Previous to the trek itself, we were given the option to hike the entire path and back in a single day which we decided to do and they told me they 100% recommend that I do not take my trekking boots, and to use their wellies instead. On the day of the hike, their boots did not fit, thankfully I ignored their advice and brought my own anyway. After waking up at 3:30, our guide was late and we left 45 minutes late. He rode a horse almost the entire way whilst we walked, had no interesting information to tell us and spent most of the time looking at his phone whilst we struggled through the mud. It was completely irresponsible to tell us the hike on foot would take 11 hours. we usually complete our hikes in less than the estimated time, yet we were hiking for over 14 hours, whilst our guide (Alex) told us from his horse that we were too slow and continued to lie to us about how long was left. Our wonderful experience at the top was tainted by a trek back in total darkness, utterly exhausted and squelching through muddy paths with exposed barbed wire.
Go to El Altar.
Do not go with Candetur.

Chimborazo is an inactive volcano and a popular hiking destination, featuring glaciers and surrounded by protected land with diverse wildlife. Surprisingly, if measured from the Earth's center, it would be taller than Mount Everest due to the planet's shape. The journey to the summit typically involves starting at a car park around 4,800 meters and trekking to a refuge over 5,000 meters before beginning the climb.
The climb was not as technical as I thought it would be based on what I've read, but it definitely requires a measure of strength, stamina, and a large share of deep breaths! Amazing climb with a gorgeous sunrise at the top.

If the height of the mountains were measured starting from the center of the Earth, due to the crushing of our planet at the poles, Chimborazo would be the highest mountain in the world, almost 2,000 meters higher than Everest!
The car park reaches about 4,800mt (pay attention to the altitude) and everyone can go on foot to the refuge located just over 5,000mt, from where the path begins for those who decide to climb the mountain.
It is a unique sensation and a panorama that, apart from the altitude, takes your breath away!

I'll never travel to Banos without this trip planner again
Tungurahua is an active stratovolcano that stands at 5,023 meters above sea level and boasts a snow-covered summit. The area surrounding the volcano is rich in diverse vegetation, including representative flowers like aguacolla, eucalyptus, cypress, quishuar, molles, and a variety of orchids.
The Tungurahua was the first mountain I ever attempted to summit. We left the refuge at around 01:00 and started our nightly climb. Reached the cross which marks the 2/3 way without much hassle. However, the way to the crater turned out to be very vertical and covered with volcanic ashes which are very slippery. Further, shortage of breath due to the altitude started appearing. I struggled to get to the crater but thanks to the motivation from our guide I pushed myself there. The crater was completely filled with snow which was very other-wordly. From there, the summit was another 30 minutes up. Took us 5 hours from the refuge all the way up. The view was covered with clouds, however I invoked the Mama Tungurahua as tradition says by wearing a diablo mask. Suddenly, the clouds cleared and we managed to see everything. What a view!! The Sangay was erupting and we clearly saw the Chimborazo too as well as the Cotopaxi. Temperatures there were of -7°C with an insanely strong wind so snap pictures fast before you freeze fingers. Going down was terribly difficult as the ashes on the path made us slipping down and falling all the time. It took us 2 hours to go down to the refuge. From there on another 1h30 to the entrance of the park. All in all, the experience was definitely worth it. Still, make sure you are in an excellent physical shape otherwise you will struggle extensively or might not be able to finish. Good luck and godspeed!

To get there from Baños: take a cab to “Pondoa village” and hike 3-4 hours on the “Volacano ruta” which is well indicated to the refuge (3800 meters).
The refuge is super nice. There is gaz, dishes, mattress (a lot), drinking water, clean toilets and even a small “shop” if the owner is around.
By the way the cost for a night is 10$ per person (2$ to “visit”, not sur what that means).
To climb Tungurahua: We slept in the refuge well with only a 0 degre sleeping bags, woke up at 3 and start climbing. We were super lucky because the moon was shining and the weather super clear which is rare at this time of the year (May is winter).
We had no equipment nor guide, we just grab wood sticks on the way (which you definitely need to climb the multiple slippery parts of the volcano) but again we were super lucky on the weather for the season. Otherwise the trail to the top is pretty well indicated and despite the strong wind at the top the 3-4 hours ascension is not so hard.

Summited Tungurahua solo in early March2022
Equipment: high mountain clothes, incl. rain pants/jacket, gaiters, hiking poles, helmet (possible rock falls from other hikers), hiking shoes (optionally hiking boots), headlamp, sleeping bag, food. No need for ice axe, there's no ice at all.
How to summit solo
- Rent what you're missing in Baños (at Ñato Guiding agency for example)
- Announce your coming at the refuge, there's enough room for 25+ (+593987173573 or +593983914291)
- Take a cab to Pondoa (extra ~3km walk) for $8 or take a truck/pickup directly to the entrance of Sangay National Park for $15-$20
- Walk to the refuge, 4km, pay $15 or $12 if you are Ecuadorian, cook, eat, sleep. (There was food and drink for sale)
- Wake up between 12 and 3am.
- I personally left the refuge at 3:35am and made it to the summit in 4 hours, but I'm faster than the average hiker. I ran down in 1.5hours
- Hope for a cab/truck at the trailhead or hike another 6km from Pondoa to Baños

Treehouse & viewing deck surrounded by scenic gardens in a volcanic valley, with zip lines & a café.
Spectacular views from the top of the mountain. The garden is filled with beautiful flowers. There are mini zip lines for kids to enjoy. There are at least 3 more swings found all over. The main attraction is the tree house with 2 swings. You can use the swing by yourself but there is someone who will assist you and will push the swing for you. There is a local liquor tasting, food concessions, and souvenir shops before entering the gate of the park. You can spend a good one hour or two marveling at the gorgeous landscape surrounding this place. It is worth the trip. Highly recommended.

Worth heading up to the swing, not really the most unique spot in the world. This is an Instagramers paradise. Definitely take the bus up and back, it is a lot more money if you take a guided trip. They will check your car while you enjoy the facilities and you can pay them later when you're leaving. To get in, you have to walk a little bit and the entrance is only one dollar per person. La casa del árbol is a magical place where you can see the Tungurahua volcano which has been active since 1999. There are a few swings to enjoy the view and get nice pictures.

Awesome experience! A short but steep walk to the entrance and you feel immersed in an almost surreal mountaintop oasis.
Bring a bit of cash for a drink or treat at the coffee shop. The famous swing is a certain go to. Hopefully the clouds don't obstruct the incredible views. If you're lucky you'll catch a picture of the hummingbirds.

It costs $1 to enter this beautiful garden-park with many amazing flowers and activities. There are multiple swings that were all free to use when we were there. Also a free little zip line and access to the treehouse. If it’s not too cloudy you can see the top of the nearby volcano. Super amazing place for a nice walk and some photos.

Amazing and fun! Swings are fun. ONLY $1 ENTERY! Also a free zipline! Must go!

Swing at the End of the World! Thrilling and fun attraction. This is a garden / playground where you can play in a swing over the edge of a mountain. There is a treehouse and viewing deck to get a panoramic view of a volcanic valley. Can also enjoy the zip lines. Good for family fun

Almost hit this guy with my legs 😊 but he is an experienced mmmm 🤔 swing man!
I don’t think there is anything else to do here except for the swing…

Overall, compared to most places in Baños, this has an affordable entry. 1 dollar. The iconic swing is fun, and I appreciated the staff helping my group and others. If you are looking to see the city of Baños, this is not the best place to do so. The view here is more of nature. I felt like the price reflects this difference. I think this is a good stop for Baños.
Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Agua Santa Church, also known as the Church of the Virgin of Agua Santa, is a magnificent basilica located in Banos, Ecuador. According to local legend, the church is associated with miracles attributed to the Virgin Mary. Inside, visitors can admire paintings depicting these miracles and other religious artwork. The church is a popular pilgrimage site where people come to give thanks to the Virgin Mary.
Gorgeous art in the church with very interesting painting such as the one about the 1797 eruption of the Tungurahua.

Schönes Gotteshaus und ein Ort um eine Kerze für seine geliebten Menschen anzünden zu können.
Die Kerzen bekommt man natürlich vor der Kirche zu kaufen.

Beautiful place of worship and a place to light a candle for your loved ones.
Of course you can buy the candles in front of the church.

Beautiful historic Catholic church near center of Banos. Murals tell the history of the Virgin de Agua Santa and the 600 year history of Banos, i including volcano eruptions, fires tragedies and miracles.

interesting church. the Chiostro is wonderful in my opinion. Not great historical value, compared with what we are used in Europe, but representative of the city of Baños and well manteined.

Pilgrims and parades! The construction of the Basílica Católica Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Agua Santa (1904-1944), a genuine pilgrimage church, is thanks to the priest-mayor Tomás Halflants from Belgium. The basilica is characterized by a compact, gray facade with white spiers. Every year, the church attracts many pilgrims who come to pray to the "Virgin of the Rosary of the Holy Water," a saint who protects people and property from earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Not an unnecessary luxury in a country teeming with active volcanoes, Baños itself lies at the foot of the Tungurahua volcano (which is strangely the origin of the sacred water). A good, but perhaps busy time to visit the church is the month of October when processions are held in honor of the Virgin for 24 days.

A beautiful cathedral very active with visors and pilgrim . I was touched by the level of faith of the local people crying in front of the statue of the virgen of Banos.
There is s museo on the side.

You see this from anywhere in Banos. I only went inside once and that was when an orchestra was playing some famous film songs like Mission Impossible etc. I don't know if that is common but it's pretty cool.

y, Ambato & 12 de Noviembre, Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador
Piscinas Termas De La Virgen in Baños, Ecuador is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking relaxation and natural beauty. The site is located near the Nuestra Senora de Agua Santa basilica, known for its stunning architecture and local legends of miraculous events. Visitors can enjoy the thermal springs at Termas de la Virgen, situated close to the picturesque Virgin Waterfall.
One of the best mineral hot springs in Banos. Very clean. We paid $6 per person to enter. Also we did mud treatment for $10 each, that includes a 15 min massage. This facility also has a nice jacuzzi, hot herbal steam room, and sauna as well with a cold dip. Would love to visit again!
Dennis Belichenko — Google review
It was confusing to figure out which termas to visit in Baños, but we ended up doing the piscinas. You can buy/ rent anything you need there but they don’t provide gorros or towels or sandals. Otherwise, they have 3 termas of different temperatures, a sauna, steam room, water slides, and a (manual) wave pool. There are regular pools as well which are nice and cool after soaking in the termas. If you go at night they is music bumping and you get a beautiful view of the waterfalls and miradors.
Tobias Martin — Google review
Great for families. As many and as hot thermal pools as next door as well as legit water slides and a ‘littles’ splash area. Had a sauna and a steam, but we did not go in.
Kipp Dubow — Google review
All service is excellent.big and clean as well as sauna, turco, natural water of volcán ( terma natural).
Sufficient changing room, toilets and big area.well maintaining and good caring place but restaurant service is boring and not proper service and attention.
Others are very good ,they have a own safe parking area.
No any new service.
Rohit Bhattarai — Google review
This is the new addition to the existing Termas de la Virgin. It has a very different atmosphere, much bigger and with modern facilities, including water slides. It also has a big parking lot. Unfortunately the price is $6 for adults, compared to $2 (daytime) or 3 (evening) for the old bath.

Really nice place. Specially at night with the waterfall behind the pools. Friendly people and staff. Only issue: it is way to small for all the people they let in.

Everything was good, pool clean and stuff only the employees should be friendly cause your staff is very rude and talk with an attitude
We came to the place around 11 am to noon. It was a weekend and there were not a lot of people in the park. We breezed through the gate entrance and we already started taking pictures of the cascading falls that pounded through the rocks. We went farther down and marveled at the rain forest. We hiked down and reached 2 hanging bridges. The bridges were safe to walk on and you have good views of the cascading falls. Farther down, you go down the stairs where you will be closer to the falls. You can get wet as you move closer. It is quite a walk up and down from the bottom to the top of the falls. Any spot is a good spot to take in the view and take pictures. Beautiful scenery as you hear the thunderous pounding of the cascading falls. Highly recommended for a visit in Baños.
Damian Kulig — Google review
Pailon was one of the best waterfalls I have ever visited. There are 2 entrances, I recommend the top one. The passage is safe and you don't get wet if you don't want to. There was even a raindow over the waterfall.
I K — Google review
A great waterfall. It's quite a hike to get to so if you're not a walker or are elderly, account for extra time. The journey is safe and the path well built so there's no worry about that.
There's a couple of places to eat and if you're willing you can go under some rocks to climb further to the top for a better view. That's harder and requires better shoes and waterproofs.
When going back down, there's a chance to cross a bridge to get a different view too, through a restaurant.
Sagar Haria — Google review
It is the perfect place to meet at night. The view is incredible although you have to take into account the walking times. The only problem are the guides, it is a lottery if you are going to get a good guide or one who just wants to finish the tour quickly.
Cesar J. Santacruz — Google review
Spectacular huge waterfall dropping huge quantities of water multiple stories into a punch bowl.
There are viewing platforms at various levels with accesses via staircases and bridges that can be steep and wet at times.
We had only 20 minutes as part of the tour of the cascadas, but I would recommend spending longer here to truly see it from different angles and levels. We walked along the river past the stalls and the upper level falls then descended the path, then stairs and bridges to a view point part way down, with great views along the way. While not easy, most folks in decent shape can manage this walk just fine.
Well worth the meager entry fee.

Amazing must see attraction in Quito! Will need a 15-20 minutes walk to the waterfall. The pathway leading to the waterfall is set in such a way that you pass by next to and below the waterfall. Be prepared to be drenched. The panoramic view at the top of waterfall is fantastic. Incredible experience
CK Cheong — Google review
Pay attention! There are two entries. On one side you see the view from above, on the other you are next to the ground, these parts are not connected and you have to pay twice. Otherwise a nice trip

Beautiful falls and light show at night. Highly recommend going at night time to get a different experience.
Chris Whitfield — Google review
A very special and beautiful place. The waterfall can be approached by two different paths. The entrance fee is the same in both places, 2 USD per person and the bus from Baños takes you almost to the entrance for half dollar. The place can be a bit crowded, but in the late afternoon will meet less visitors.

Much shorter walk than the old trail. Great views and well maintained path. Took us about 1hr to complete. A must if in the area. Tons if parking
papichulo110029 — Google review
What a magnificent waterfall!!! We enjoyed seeing it, however the walk to get closer becomes quite difficult. There is a portion where you are essentially crawling on your stomach, and eventually the pathway just ends with no notice! It was quite the adventure nonetheless.

I would have liked there to be tourist guides that would give more information, especially to people from other provinces who do not know about the history of this illustrious character.

There is no way to get lost. It is a small museum, but full of memorabilia that helps us have a better vision of who was the most distinguished writer of his time. In the same place is the mausoleum, which is a large, cool building with a very high roof and where you can breathe peace and meditation. At the entrance it is possible to buy souvenirs and books that reflect the thoughts of this great author who had such careful prose that he himself dared to write a book titled "Chapters that Cervantes forgot." It was he who opposed García Moreno and coined the famous phrase regarding his death: "My pen killed him."

As for Juan Moltalvo, it allows us to learn about life in a more entertaining way, from his origins to his last days, the diagrams, maps, books, mannequins, original photos and his majestic mausoleum where he is. All this very technically accommodated. I highly recommend it, the entrance is only one dollar and without time restrictions, you don't bother because you take photos or because you walk wherever you want. Very clean and tidy.

This place was beautiful. There is lots of different flowers and plants to see. They take really good care of the property. I was surprised by the history lesson as well. It was the property of the father of Ambato. Pretty cool to see what his families house was like. Besides that there is a park across the street that is neglected. No one walks through and they dont landscape there anymore but its really peaceful to walk through.
