The site is located near the Nuestra Senora de Agua Santa basilica, known for its stunning architecture and local legends of miraculous events. Visitors can enjoy the thermal springs at Termas de la Virgen, situated close to the picturesque Virgin Waterfall.
One of the best mineral hot springs in Banos. Very clean. We paid $6 per person to enter. Also we did mud treatment for $10 each, that includes a 15 min massage. This facility also has a nice jacuzzi, hot herbal steam room, and sauna as well with a cold dip. Would love to visit again!

It was confusing to figure out which termas to visit in Baños, but we ended up doing the piscinas. You can buy/ rent anything you need there but they don’t provide gorros or towels or sandals. Otherwise, they have 3 termas of different temperatures, a sauna, steam room, water slides, and a (manual) wave pool. There are regular pools as well which are nice and cool after soaking in the termas. If you go at night they is music bumping and you get a beautiful view of the waterfalls and miradors.
Tobias Martin — Google review
Great for families. As many and as hot thermal pools as next door as well as legit water slides and a ‘littles’ splash area. Had a sauna and a steam, but we did not go in.
Kipp Dubow — Google review
All service is excellent.big and clean as well as sauna, turco, natural water of volcán ( terma natural).
Sufficient changing room, toilets and big area.well maintaining and good caring place but restaurant service is boring and not proper service and attention.
Others are very good ,they have a own safe parking area.
No any new service.

This is the new addition to the existing Termas de la Virgin. It has a very different atmosphere, much bigger and with modern facilities, including water slides. It also has a big parking lot. Unfortunately the price is $6 for adults, compared to $2 (daytime) or 3 (evening) for the old bath.
Marinus WS — Google review
Really nice place. Specially at night with the waterfall behind the pools. Friendly people and staff. Only issue: it is way to small for all the people they let in.

Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Agua Santa Church, also known as the Church of the Virgin of Agua Santa, is a magnificent basilica located in Banos, Ecuador. According to local legend, the church is associated with miracles attributed to the Virgin Mary. Inside, visitors can admire paintings depicting these miracles and other religious artwork. The church is a popular pilgrimage site where people come to give thanks to the Virgin Mary.
Gorgeous art in the church with very interesting painting such as the one about the 1797 eruption of the Tungurahua.

Schönes Gotteshaus und ein Ort um eine Kerze für seine geliebten Menschen anzünden zu können.
Die Kerzen bekommt man natürlich vor der Kirche zu kaufen.

Of course you can buy the candles in front of the church.

Beautiful historic Catholic church near center of Banos. Murals tell the history of the Virgin de Agua Santa and the 600 year history of Banos, i including volcano eruptions, fires tragedies and miracles.

interesting church. the Chiostro is wonderful in my opinion. Not great historical value, compared with what we are used in Europe, but representative of the city of Baños and well manteined.

Pilgrims and parades! The construction of the Basílica Católica Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Agua Santa (1904-1944), a genuine pilgrimage church, is thanks to the priest-mayor Tomás Halflants from Belgium. The basilica is characterized by a compact, gray facade with white spiers. Every year, the church attracts many pilgrims who come to pray to the "Virgin of the Rosary of the Holy Water," a saint who protects people and property from earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Not an unnecessary luxury in a country teeming with active volcanoes, Baños itself lies at the foot of the Tungurahua volcano (which is strangely the origin of the sacred water). A good, but perhaps busy time to visit the church is the month of October when processions are held in honor of the Virgin for 24 days.

We visited when quiet and also attended a service on Christmas Day. Fantastic family church

You see this from anywhere in Banos. I only went inside once and that was when an orchestra was playing some famous film songs like Mission Impossible etc. I don't know if that is common but it's pretty cool.

Treehouse & viewing deck surrounded by scenic gardens in a volcanic valley, with zip lines & a café.
Spectacular views from the top of the mountain. The garden is filled with beautiful flowers. There are mini zip lines for kids to enjoy. There are at least 3 more swings found all over. The main attraction is the tree house with 2 swings. You can use the swing by yourself but there is someone who will assist you and will push the swing for you. There is a local liquor tasting, food concessions, and souvenir shops before entering the gate of the park. You can spend a good one hour or two marveling at the gorgeous landscape surrounding this place. It is worth the trip. Highly recommended.
Damian Kulig — Google review
Worth heading up to the swing, not really the most unique spot in the world. This is an Instagramers paradise. Definitely take the bus up and back, it is a lot more money if you take a guided trip. The swing was fun, felt the perspective change quickly and super fun. The people watching is by far the best. If you are an outdoor person, this is tame
Zak Evans — Google review
A really lovely spot! Try the swing and explore the vibrant and unique flowers of the area. There is also a Cafe there so you can sit down and enjoy a drink or meal.

It is a must if you visit Baños de Agua Santa.
The swings are the main attractions, followed by the unforgettable views.
It also has an absolutely beautiful and well maintained garden with many hummingbirds visiting the flowers.

The pictures do not do this place justice. You have to be there in person to see it for yourself. There's nothing like swinging high above the Andes mountains and breathing the fresh air. Everyone should go here at least once in a lifetime.
Seneca Vaught — Google review
It was a good place for enjoying the sunny day. The swings were not thrilling for us so they were a small disappointment. Entry was only 1 dollar. We came with Uber for 5 dollars and left with the local bus which was also 1 dollar.

One of the most beautiful places to visit in Ecuador. You can park around, there are some people helping you to find a good spot. They will check your car while you enjoy the facilities and you can pay them later when you're leaving. To get in, you have to walk a little bit and the entrance is only one dollar per person. La casa del árbol is a magical place where you can see the Tungurahua volcano which has been active since 1999. There are a few swings to enjoy the view and get nice pictures.
Patiko — Google review
Awesome experience! A short but steep walk to the entrance and you feel immersed in an almost surreal mountaintop oasis.
Bring a bit of cash for a drink or treat at the coffee shop. The famous swing is a certain go to. Hopefully the clouds don't obstruct the incredible views. If you're lucky you'll catch a picture of the hummingbirds.
Christian Cepeda — Google review
It costs $1 to enter this beautiful garden-park with many amazing flowers and activities. There are multiple swings that were all free to use when we were there. Also a free little zip line and access to the treehouse. If it’s not too cloudy you can see the top of the nearby volcano. Super amazing place for a nice walk and some photos.

Swing at the End of the World! Thrilling and fun attraction. This is a garden / playground where you can play in a swing over the edge of a mountain. There is a treehouse and viewing deck to get a panoramic view of a volcanic valley. Can also enjoy the zip lines. Good for family fun

Almost hit this guy with my legs 😊 but he is an experienced mmmm 🤔 swing man!
I don’t think there is anything else to do here except for the swing…
Polina Antipova — Google review
Overall, compared to most places in Baños, this has an affordable entry. 1 dollar. The iconic swing is fun, and I appreciated the staff helping my group and others. If you are looking to see the city of Baños, this is not the best place to do so. The view here is more of nature. I felt like the price reflects this difference. I think this is a good stop for Baños.
This majestic extinct volcano features a colorful crater lake, hiking trails, climbing & a refuge.
Recommendations: wear rubber boots whether it rains or not because the road is full of mud. If you camp, you must contact the park in advance. It is recommended to have done trekking before because otherwise it can be very difficult. It is an experience that is worth it.
Carolina Herrera — Google review
The 'yellow lake' or laguna amarilla, is one of the most stunning place in Ecuador. You can camp with your own tent if you walk untill the end of the valley, passing the cottage. Better to go when it's not raining and wear boots!
Marianna — Google review
I'm amazed by the beauty of this place, the volcano is magestic. Definitely worth all the walking in mud for hours. You can camp in here and go see the many lakes surrounding the volcano.
Amanda Enriquez — Google review
Laguna amarillo and the surrounding areas are some of the most beautiful surroundings I have ever seen. The views are absolutely stunning and for anyone able to make the 2 day trek with their own camping gear, I would totally recommend it.
However, avoid Candetur tour company at all costs. Previous to the trek itself, we were given the option to hike the entire path and back in a single day which we decided to do and they told me they 100% recommend that I do not take my trekking boots, and to use their wellies instead. On the day of the hike, their boots did not fit, thankfully I ignored their advice and brought my own anyway. After waking up at 3:30, our guide was late and we left 45 minutes late. He rode a horse almost the entire way whilst we walked, had no interesting information to tell us and spent most of the time looking at his phone whilst we struggled through the mud. It was completely irresponsible to tell us the hike on foot would take 11 hours. we usually complete our hikes in less than the estimated time, yet we were hiking for over 14 hours, whilst our guide (Alex) told us from his horse that we were too slow and continued to lie to us about how long was left. Our wonderful experience at the top was tainted by a trek back in total darkness, utterly exhausted and squelching through muddy paths with exposed barbed wire.
Go to El Altar.
Do not go with Candetur.

The most beautiful landscape in Ecuador and one of the most beautiful place from all over the world
Tungurahua is an active stratovolcano that stands at 5,023 meters above sea level and boasts a snow-covered summit. The area surrounding the volcano is rich in diverse vegetation, including representative flowers like aguacolla, eucalyptus, cypress, quishuar, molles, and a variety of orchids.
The Tungurahua was the first mountain I ever attempted to summit. We left the refuge at around 01:00 and started our nightly climb. Reached the cross which marks the 2/3 way without much hassle. However, the way to the crater turned out to be very vertical and covered with volcanic ashes which are very slippery. Further, shortage of breath due to the altitude started appearing. I struggled to get to the crater but thanks to the motivation from our guide I pushed myself there. The crater was completely filled with snow which was very other-wordly. From there, the summit was another 30 minutes up. Took us 5 hours from the refuge all the way up. The view was covered with clouds, however I invoked the Mama Tungurahua as tradition says by wearing a diablo mask. Suddenly, the clouds cleared and we managed to see everything. What a view!! The Sangay was erupting and we clearly saw the Chimborazo too as well as the Cotopaxi. Temperatures there were of -7°C with an insanely strong wind so snap pictures fast before you freeze fingers. Going down was terribly difficult as the ashes on the path made us slipping down and falling all the time. It took us 2 hours to go down to the refuge. From there on another 1h30 to the entrance of the park. All in all, the experience was definitely worth it. Still, make sure you are in an excellent physical shape otherwise you will struggle extensively or might not be able to finish. Good luck and godspeed!
Milos — Google review
To get there from Baños: take a cab to “Pondoa village” and hike 3-4 hours on the “Volacano ruta” which is well indicated to the refuge (3800 meters).
The refuge is super nice. There is gaz, dishes, mattress (a lot), drinking water, clean toilets and even a small “shop” if the owner is around.
By the way the cost for a night is 10$ per person (2$ to “visit”, not sur what that means).
To climb Tungurahua: We slept in the refuge well with only a 0 degre sleeping bags, woke up at 3 and start climbing. We were super lucky because the moon was shining and the weather super clear which is rare at this time of the year (May is winter).
We had no equipment nor guide, we just grab wood sticks on the way (which you definitely need to climb the multiple slippery parts of the volcano) but again we were super lucky on the weather for the season. Otherwise the trail to the top is pretty well indicated and despite the strong wind at the top the 3-4 hours ascension is not so hard.

Summited Tungurahua solo in early March2022
Equipment: high mountain clothes, incl. rain pants/jacket, gaiters, hiking poles, helmet (possible rock falls from other hikers), hiking shoes (optionally hiking boots), headlamp, sleeping bag, food. No need for ice axe, there's no ice at all.
How to summit solo
- Rent what you're missing in Baños (at Ñato Guiding agency for example)
- Announce your coming at the refuge, there's enough room for 25+ (+593987173573 or +593983914291)
- Take a cab to Pondoa (extra ~3km walk) for $8 or take a truck/pickup directly to the entrance of Sangay National Park for $15-$20
- Walk to the refuge, 4km, pay $15 or $12 if you are Ecuadorian, cook, eat, sleep. (There was food and drink for sale)
- Wake up between 12 and 3am.
- I personally left the refuge at 3:35am and made it to the summit in 4 hours, but I'm faster than the average hiker. I ran down in 1.5hours
- Hope for a cab/truck at the trailhead or hike another 6km from Pondoa to Baños

The Tungurahua Volcano has a mystical surrounding.
Most of the time it is covered with clouds, but even then you can smell its sulfur and hear it roar and even feel the earth tremble.

Old hacienda with period style furnishings. Wish they had more English language descriptions. The surrounding botanic style gardens are a pleasure to walk through. You can pick up the micro coconuts that have fallen and crack them with rocks (be careful!) for the fun of little snacks.

This place was beautiful. There is lots of different flowers and plants to see. They take really good care of the property. I was surprised by the history lesson as well. It was the property of the father of Ambato. Pretty cool to see what his families house was like. Besides that there is a park across the street that is neglected. No one walks through and they dont landscape there anymore but its really peaceful to walk through.

Located on the northeast side of Parque Pedro Vicente Maldonado, the catedral de San Pedro de Riobamba stands as the main church of its diocese. This Roman Catholic cathedral boasts a simple interior design and a noteworthy Baroque facade adorned with numerous medallions. Following the devastating earthquake of 1797 that obliterated its predecessor, construction of the present-day church commenced in 1810 and concluded in 1835.
... historical place where every stone has something to tell!
Pablo A Ruiz Coronel — Google review
On the northeast side of the Parque Pedro Vicente Maldonado is the catedral de San Pedro de Riobamba, the main church of the diocese of the same name. This Roman Catholic church with its simply designed interior is mainly notable for its Baroque facade, decorated with many medallions. After the old cathedral was destroyed in 1797 by the most severe earthquake in Ecuadorian history (8.3 on the Richter Scale), the current church was built between 1810 and 1835. The cathedral, especially the facade, is one of the finest examples of Plateresque architecture and with a mix of indigenous and colonial elements.

We did the mid-long mtb tour on Chimborazo. Galo took a lot of time to explain us the tour and procedure in detail the evening bevor. Safety equipment is in good shape, bikes are a bit outdated but in good condition and more than sufficient to bike down the Vulcan safely. We can highly recommend to do the tour with Pro Bici, the are very well experience and took care to give the customers a special experience.

Amazing experience! This company uses different trials than all the other companies. Truly in the country side riding on dirt roads instead of the asphalt road like other companies. Very calm and professional with me. Had a great opportunity to go to a unique forest to eat lunch as well. This tour is a bit difficult, yet doable for people seeking adventure! Possibly the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.
Emily — Google review
Very friendly people, however quite unorganized. Our introduction took more than 2 hours after we had to wait 40min for someone to appear at their office (which btw is a huge mess). In between we had to run to the supermarket before it closes, as you have to buy your own drinks and food for the tour. Too much hustle for an organized tour of this price...we opted out in fear that the tour will be as unorganized and lengthy as the introduction the day before.
Therefore, despite everyone being very friendly I would not recommend the tour.
Just north of the Laguna de Colta stands the first catholic church of Ecuador, founded by the conquistadores on august 15, 1534. The very simple church has an altar built from large stones where a sea of flowers always adorns a small Mary statue. In clear weather, the beautiful white peak of the Chimborazo can be seen from here. It is certainly worth pausing your trip here.

Ecuador's first church, build in 1534. When driving towards Baños de Agua Santa, take the time to check it out, and get a great cup of coffee at the cafeteria!
Chimborazo is an inactive volcano and a popular hiking destination, featuring glaciers and surrounded by protected land with diverse wildlife. Surprisingly, if measured from the Earth's center, it would be taller than Mount Everest due to the planet's shape. The journey to the summit typically involves starting at a car park around 4,800 meters and trekking to a refuge over 5,000 meters before beginning the climb.
The climb was not as technical as I thought it would be based on what I've read, but it definitely requires a measure of strength, stamina, and a large share of deep breaths! Amazing climb with a gorgeous sunrise at the top.
Minh Chau — Google review
If the height of the mountains were measured starting from the center of the Earth, due to the crushing of our planet at the poles, Chimborazo would be the highest mountain in the world, almost 2,000 meters higher than Everest!
The car park reaches about 4,800mt (pay attention to the altitude) and everyone can go on foot to the refuge located just over 5,000mt, from where the path begins for those who decide to climb the mountain.
It is a unique sensation and a panorama that, apart from the altitude, takes your breath away!
AeroBuz — Google review
Challenging but worth it. Very steep and the way up seems endless as it looks always the same for the last few hours, but once on top you’ll realize you have never seen the sun that big. This is a truly unique place in the world!

Successfuly made it to the summit yesterday morning! Just on time for sunrise.
I booked my climb with Fabián Chuto and his agency Aventuras de Montaña in Riobamba. Fabián set me up with his fellow guide Raúl and lent me all the equipment I was missing, including high altitude shoes and sleeping bag. Raúl and I made the journey from high camp (5300m) to the summit (6263m) in 4h14min, leaving camp at 1:35am.

I hiked up to 5100m of Chimborazo with Urcuroots. Interestingly I didn’t feel dizzy because of the altitude even if it was the highest point I have ever been to. The views were amazing. It was very nice to see hummingbirds and vicuñas. I am so glad that I had this experience.

Lucky enough to see some wildlife in the reservation, but couldn't get a better look at the volcano because of the cloudy weather. Just had a glance of the peak when we get to the end of the road.

If you want to achieve the summit you must remain in the city at least 3 days and ascend till 5200m. The level of this mountain is not HARD as it seem if you are well trained, overall it takes 20 hours for a beginner to get to the summit. I strongly suggest to take the coke tea while climbing. Overall it's fun.

Just reading about this volcano, known via Alexander von Humboldt. He thought in 1799, that this mountain was the highest mountain in the world! Without oxygen they did not quite reach the summit because of a glacier gap!

Flavia Loner — Google review

The most spectacular views of Chimborazo volcano from our drive from Baños to Cuenca. The snow caps reminded us of the snow from the Adirondack Mountains in NY. Just breathtaking!

Amazing mountain
We ate dinner and rested at high camp before starting our climb at midnight
We climbed with guides and turned around about half way up the mountain due to avalanche danger
Overall great adventure and will likely be back

Natural and very good place to visit and pass time. Good scenario and full excitement to visit here. Beauty of nature makes you very happy and you feel full energy of nature.
From the first base camp after you register your details you have to enter in the reserve zone of national park.
You can see full forest llamás in the park.

Lucky enough to see some wildlife in the reservation, but couldn't get a better look at the volcano because of the cloudy weather. Just had a glance of the peak when we get to the end of the road.
Bryant Wu — Google review
If you want to achieve the summit you must remain in the city at least 3 days and ascend till 5200m. The level of this mountain is not HARD as it seem if you are well trained, overall it takes 20 hours for a beginner to get to the summit. I strongly suggest to take the coke tea while climbing. Overall it's fun.
Marco Pelaez — Google review
Just reading about this volcano, known via Alexander von Humboldt. He thought in 1799, that this mountain was the highest mountain in the world! Without oxygen they did not quite reach the summit because of a glacier gap!

Visited here as part of our organized day tour. Loved learning about the history and significance of this location.
Kirk Bratvold — Google review
Didn't get to go inside or up close or learn much about the templo—what some would consider the main feature of the ruins here—perhaps because some students were studying it or reconstructing it at the time, saw some scaffolding and half a dozen jovenes dusting the stones—I don't really know, my guide didn't say anything about the templo, when we arrived here at the end of the tour she simply broke the news that we owed her more money because, unbeknownst to us, she was a "private guide" not included in the admission price, even though we had not personally contracted her, the complejo had called her in for us when we purchased the tickets. See my review of the tourist trap "complejo" for more, but suffice it to say Ingapirca no vale la pena ni la plata, güey, vete a Cajas o El Chorro de Giron para disfrutar esta región de véras.

Amazing group. We took them to cloud forest and it was a great trip to see local sugar cane production, hike to a waterfall, and eat a local lunch. Trip is definitely worth doing for all and even kids of all ages.
From our experience the bugs were limited but bug spray is needed.

Did the waterfall hike. Pickup on time by Wilson and he was a fantastic guide. We had ample restroom breaks, and he suggested several different levels of trails to choose from. Wilson customized the tour for my level of ability. I wore a bathing suit, long sleeve quick drying shirt, and sturdy closed toe water sandals. Afterwards we enjoyed an authentic Ecuadorian meal at a small local restaurant. Recommend

We had a fabulous time on our Cloud Forest Hike. Our guide Noe took great care of us, from all the hiking to having a great lunch. We were very appreciative of his knowledge. We found this tour when we were still in the states and booked once we arrived in Equador. Communication was so easy on WhatsApp. A definite recommendation!

We had an amazing time on two different tours with Bucay Adventures.
The first tour we took was a guided hike to the Piedra Blanca waterfalls. This amazing tour included repelling down a 30 m waterfall, with all the equipment included.
The second adventure we took with them was an afternoon on the river that runs through Bucay white water rafting! It was our first time doing anything like this and the professional level of Bucay Adventures made sure we had an amazing and fun time the whole day!
I would highly recommend them for whatever adrenaline inducing adventure they offer!

Country-chic quarters in a genteel rural farmstay offering a restaurant & horseback riding.
Yvonne was very very friendly. The rooms Are really beautiful and the Food is also really good.
I really can recommend the Hacienda La Danesa.
Only the mosquitos around there are annoying.
Sammy Quetzal — Google review
One of the loveliest haciendas on the planet. The architecture and appointments in the rooms and common area are sheer perfection. Whoever designed the buildings and the interior must be at the top of their respective industries. That being said, the price is steep for the location. We booked the Garden Cottage along with the meal plan and two extra excursions (beekeeping--incredible!) and (cloud forest waterfall hike--stunning!) and the cost added up to over $1,000 a day. Service is excellent, and though meal preferences don't always translate well, the quality and presentation of the food is outstanding. Try Myra's empanadas! And the hot chocolate was the best I ever had.
If you are looking for peaceful luxury, this is the place! So beautiful.

My group of six (4 adults, 2 nine year olds) made a day trip here from Guayaquil on our way to the Galapagos. What a great spot. Impeccably decorated, very well-trained and attentive staff, excellent food, and fun activities. Highly recommended; we wish we could have spent a night there.

Loved Hacienda La Danesa! The service was excellent, the food was excellent, and we really enjoyed the activities! The property is beautiful and it is such a peaceful setting to escape the city and just enjoy the sights and sounds of the plantation. The staff were above and beyond helpful. We only did a day trip and I wish we had time to spend a few nights.

What an excellent surprise beautifully presented in the low lands of a forest and plantation. Down a long drive you come to a modern ranch style home. Every detail is cared for everyone has your enjoyment at forefront. We are sole amazing food all freshly cooked, made chocolate from. Picking the pod to the end result, wonderful. The rooms are beautiful, you lay in bed looking out of the plantation. Highly recommended and very privileged thank you all.

La Danesa was such an amazing place. The hacienda was absolutely beautiful, and our room was so comforting and relaxing. Sarai was so accommodating and cheerful. The food was defiantly the most memorable as it was the best food we had during our time in Ecuador. Allyson was a great guide and so fun to be around. Wilson showed us amazing waterfalls, as well as the rituals behind them. Benny took us horseback riding and was so patient with us. Josue and Jocelyn were very kind and took great care of us during our meals! Xiomara taught us how to make chocolate and the specific process behind it which turned into us making our own chocolate bars. John took us tubing and to the farm to teach us the behind-the-scenes of the cocoa plant. It was a great way to end our vacation and added to our time in Equador!

Photos simply cannot do this stunning property justice. The level of attention to detail is truly remarkable. From the moment you arrive and are greeted by the wonderful Ivonne to the first glimpse of your room you will wish you had booked more nights. What a place!!

Perfect place to relax. The farm has teak forests, cacao plantations and a variety of animals you can interact with (ride horses, milk a cow, guinea chickens, geese and more. ).
Hosts and staff are very attentive. Expect some refreshments upon arrival. You can learn the process of making chocolate from a cacao bean, down to making your own chocolate bars after tempering the chocolate. A small store offers products for home (placemats, teak spoons, cutting boards, etc. ) and more (purses).

They perfect compliment to your Galapagos trip; a detour to the Ecuadorian coast countryside with cows, tubing, horseback-riding, hiking, cacao harvesting, chocolate making and more! Hacienda La Danesa is great for honeymooners, getaways with friends, family trips and more!
The ecological park "Historic Guayaquil Canton Samborondon Park" is a nice place to visit with animals, but it is not well maintained since the previous administration.
Beautiful place to take the family, you can see the local flora and fauna up close as well as the animals, most in replicas of there original habitats, great to go on a weekday as very few people in the park, also the small snack bar next to the water is fantastic, mojitos are excellent!

A must visit for all travelers. It is a small zoo with the most exotic animals and beautiful old trees. The place is in a natural form with a raw wild and enchanting feel. You get to see Iguanas, Parakeets, mountain goat and so many other animals. Old trees with aerial roots all around add to the beauty of the place.

I was expecting more. It is like a small zoo, but it didn't seem like a good place for the animals. Too small. At the end, the historical buildings look quite nice. For me it was the best area of the park. I wouldn't go there again.
Las Peñas is a historic neighborhood located in Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city. It is known for its unique architectural style and has been declared a Cultural Heritage of Ecuador due to its more than 400 years of existence. The area features narrow, cobbled streets with a romantic and colorful ambiance, creating a bohemian atmosphere that attracts both locals and visitors. Las Peñas is also in close proximity to the Malecon 2000, a popular 2.

This is such a beautiful attraction/area. It's 2.5 km long and packed with great things to see. There are park areas, restaurants, a mall, rides and much more. It's right on the water with great views all around. Given the unsafe state of Guayaquil at the time of this writing, there is a heavy military/police/security presence, so safety is not a concern. I was there a week before Christmas, so it was decorated for the Christmas season, which made it extra special.

This area was opened a few years ago and is meant to be a leisure and tourist area. You can find there booths with all kind of things you don't need, and a lot of fairground attractions. We just spent one night there at a great Hotel in the Malecon area.

I really enjoyed seeing all kinds of tropical plants I've never seen before.

This place seems to be getting confused with Las 444 Escaleras. Google that if you want to see the lighthouse and church on top of the hill. This place is just a normal road on top of the hill in a residential neighborhood with radio towers on it. You might get a view of the city from here but the real tourist place starts in Las 444 Escaleras.
Al Gambini — Google review
WARNING!!! Sadly, I've been reading the reviews and wanted to be able to get a great view of the city. Perhaps I did not go up the right entrance, but followed my Google Maps to get to the top - I WAS MUGGED, and this was at 12 noon, on a bus route (that just picked up), and about 50 m from a moderate traffic area with taxis.
This is a residential neighbourhood (edit: where this actually happened was between Santa Ana Hill and Torre CNT Cerro Del Carmen). I was approached by 2 men, that grabbed my bag and phone (that surely didn't help having it open). I fought and screamed loudly during the whole fight, but was knocked over and dragged as I tried to keep my bag. There was no mercy, so don't think your fighting back or screaming will help you out of the situation.
I did go up the steps at Las Penas, and maybe to my own ignorance, but thought that the Santa Ana Hill was separate, and followed my Google Maps to another hill top (per above). Las Penas was otherwise very cute (edit: I believe this is where all the tourists are actually calling this Santa Ana Hill with the 400+ steps).
For any single tourists, please do not go by yourself, even if it's in broad daylight. Your belongings can be more valuable than you think.
I did not expect that a tourist site could result in this. Please be warned or get a guide that can ensure your safety. I have otherwise had a great experience with Ecuadorians and my time here, but wanted to warn those during their travels. Keep your passports, money, and phones in the hotel if at all possible.
Left shaken...

Parque Seminario, a historic park in Guayaquil, is a popular destination for visitors. It showcases sculptures and features an octagonal pavilion, where one can witness the presence of iguanas wandering freely. Although this park may not be considered a traditional museum due to its lack of indoor exhibits, it houses numerous historic buildings that were saved from demolition by local citizens.
A small, but beautiful park, in the middle of the city, that has iguanas walking around freely. There is also a pond containing a kot of turtles and fish. They are very friendly and not shy. It was a real treat to see them. The park is very clean, has a lot of shade from the many large trees, and there are plenty of park benches to sit on. Though there is grass it is not for walking or sitting on. The park was a wonderful oasis in a busy city. Well worth a visit.
There is also a gorgeous looking church across the street. It had just closed as we arrived. We plan to go back to see the inside.

This is a wonderful park in the centre of Guayaquil with historic significance featuring a monument to Simon Bolívar. Beautiful city park with gorgeous plants and trees. Most of all though — it has iguanas!! They are everywhere!
Only one gate is open so once you’re inside you can walk around or sit on a bench to enjoy the scenery and wildlife.
It’s free!
There is a large statue in the center of the park and old trees along the edges near the fence. So many flowers and lovely plants! The iguanas are fascinating to watch.
Br sure to visit the cathedral just across the street if you are interested in that type of thing. It’s very European with a pretty rose window.

A small park in the centre of town with paths between patches of grass. Has a statue of Simon Bolivar, lots of arboreal iguanas, and the oldest building in Guayaquil. Not really somewhere to relax as the park was so busy.
PS Don't stand under any trees... You have been warned!

This park is really sold on the fact that there are iguanas there, but to be honest, there aren't too many and they're not particularly big or impressive. Still, it's a nice park and there are ponds, where iguanas mix with fish and turtles.
The added draw for this park is that there is also the Metropolitan Cathedral right next to it, which is pretty impressive in it's own right.

As you walk inside the Parque Seminario, you can see the care and love reflected in the carefully maintained passages full of old flat stones. I have no doubt that this is the first major eco system I've seen in the dead center of a city. The iguanas, tortoise, and fish co exist, creating a peaceful environment for all to reflect and find peace within. Very small park but huge in rich history.

Piotr Kalinowski — Google review
The Zoo was worthy to visit and see some unique animals. It takes 90 mins to see everything with a guide (who was a bit pushy). The 4th star would require them to repair the pathway with better material than just dirt (it rained last night and everything got muddy). Also they need bigger enclosures for the Panther and some others. Finally, the guide… not their best foot forward. I learned more from the signs in front of the animals than I did from the guide, and that’s not an exaggeration.

The zoo was a nice place to be. They have animals I’ve never seen in person. The huge turtles were so beautiful. I enjoyed watching the monkeys and all of the other animals. Nice place. Some water slides are being built at the moment.

Too crowded on weekends but it's nice place to share with family or friends. There are a few attractions like museums, the river also different pools.
Miguel Ayala — Google review
The aquapark is cute yet the infrastructure is pretty old. The slides are ok but just be aware you might get bruises at the end. There are several interesting galleries within the park as some of them are pretty interesting (there is a replica of the Western Wall and the beautiful Nasir-ol-molk mosque in Shiraz, Iran). Beware of the doll house though since some of the dolls are pretty terrifying.

Fabulous resource for families in this area. Great facilities for fun. Plus great museums for fantastic cultural information
El Murcielago beach, located in a bay area with a boardwalk, features various eateries, snack bars and places to rent umbrellas. Despite its proximity to factories, the water appears to be clear. The sandy shores offer an array of activities such as chair rentals, coconut water drinks and banana boat rides. Additionally, there are walking jewelry vendors and chiropractic services available for visitors. To cap off a day at this exceptional beach, enjoy the breathtaking sunset views.
nice place, you can relax and be sure to try the seafoods near the restaurant and the local beers

Looks like this is a very popular beach in Manta. There are a lot of restaurants and hotels close to the shore. There’s also a mall close by the beach. The sand is a bit hard and some parts are rocky. But it’s not that bad compared to the other beach that I have been.

The Sand is on the darker side but it feels pleasant to Walk on, there a lot of people playing sports there are plenty of restaurants in this area there is a pay to stay parking lot they close this beach at 6 PM

A beach like no other!!
Although this beach is close to manufacturing the water seems clean.
On the sand there is so much to offer, chairs, coconut water, banana boat adventure, walking jewerly vendors chiropractic and a stunning sunset to end the day.

Murciélago Beach is a popular Pacific beach in downtown Manta, Ecuador. Vendors selling coconuts and ice cream or Panama hats made in nearby Montecristi ply their trade on the Malecón Escénico promenade at Murciélago Beach.
David Stanley — Google review
The beach itself is huge with many different seats. However the day I went there, constant wind was present which was very bothering. Also street vendors will constantly harass you to buy stuff from food, to gun replicas :) The laying chairs are incomfortable and small. Would recommend another beach.

Yooo amazing beach. Not that much people. Which is awesome! Enough space for everyone. You don’t have to be next to anyone. The waves were nice and you can play without drowning lol! I built sand castles with my girlfriend, we had an amazing time! The view is amazing!

Without a doubt one of the most spectacular beaches in the World! Absolutely pristine and breathtaking. Great for relaxing, snorkeling or simply taking in the gorgeous views. It's a protected national park so expect bag checks from park rangers and a closing time of 3:00 PM.
Alvaro Villagomez — Google review
Beautiful, pristine, white sand beach with gorgeous cliffs. You can walk the entire length of the beach. You cannot bring food into this park it is prohibited to smoke and bring any glass inside. You will have to lock everything in a locker before you go in that is food or drink related other than water. Remember this is the equator so the sun is very intense here remember to apply and re-apply sunscreen every 3 hours. Bring plenty of water to drink throughout the day. The riptide was very strong during January and we could not go very far into the ocean. The water was beautiful and they also have snorkeling.
Dani Marie — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches in the world in a natural setting. The water is as beautifu and clear as any Caribbean beach.

The beach was amazing and isolated years ago when I visited, now it is another crowded beach. They ruin it

Beautiful beach. Very clean water and litter free. There is some snorkeling as well. All the family loves it.
Ross Wagstaff — Google review
Without a doubt, literally the worst beach I’ve ever been to in my entire life. Aside from taking four hours to get there from Bahia, and four hours back, and it closing at 2:30 and then making everyone leave, there is no sand beach to lay on, it’s a steep drop off into the water that’s loaded with sticks, twigs and logs, and you have to step all over them. Horrible.

First time visiting Manabi Ecuador and one of its many protected and beautiful beaches, Las Frailes beach… It was a beautiful experience.. the sand white and water was a light green and super clean…water was perfect for swimming.. the beach had nice cabanas for changing and super clean bathrooms for .25 cost and showers for $1.00… the drive there was amazing, it was a very high mountain and we could see the jungle on our left heading down to the coastal area.. they have many beautiful hotels with very fair prices nearby..
It was an Amazingly Beautiful experience! 😊
Ale L — Google review
Los Frailes Beach can be good or bad, depending on what you want in a beach stay. First, it's protected, before you can even hit the sandy shores you have to commit to a bag check, as you cannot bring a lot of things on it (but you can leave them in your car in the lot that is very close). Next, the sand is more of a dark, gritty type. Crabs live in good number on the beach. You can rent an umbrella from someone for pretty cheap. The waves can be rather choppy, not a good wading experience. Nice cliff type rocks offshore that are pretty to look at. Beach has a "closing' time of about 3pm or so, and it IS enforced. All in all, a picturesque beach that I enjoyed visiting, but probably won't return to.

Pablo J. Naranjo — Google review
Definitely a five star beach!! Clean, expansive, picturesque, good for swimming, beach combing, sunbathing or exploring tidal pools and clambering over the rocks, this is a great place to visit. Sun cream and protective clothing highly recommended.
If going by bus, please be forewarned that there is about a forty minute walk along a gravel road with no shade from the park entrance to the beach. Once at the beach there is a concession stand with some basic food items and beach umbrellas for rent.
Reginald Williams — Google review
Very beautiful beach! Lots of colourful fish by the rocks, we bought some very bad quality googles that did not work for $5, so don't do that! Lots of cool crabs too!
Bea Windsor — Google review
Very pretty little beach that I highly recommend visiting if you have the time. The climate is neat.
Playa Santa Marianita is a tranquil and uncrowded beach, perfect for those who prefer smaller towns and fewer crowds. The beach is particularly great for kitesurfing, with wind conditions optimal from around 11am to 4pm. For those interested in learning the sport, there are three kite schools available on site. Playa Santa Marianita boasts of being quieter and cleaner than nearby tourist destinations such as Manta and Puerto Lopez.
I gave visited various places from Manabi. I prefer santa marianita because it is quieter and cleaner than Manta and Puerto Lopez. Anything in between: San Lorenzo, San Mateo, La Tiñosa, Pacoche are worth a visit if you prefer quieter areas.

Was an amazing beach I spent 5 days there. Learning to kite serve with Javier at the kite surf Ecuador school. He is one of the best instructors in the world and is probably 1 of the least expensive, at $300 for the first 8 hours and another 130 for an additional 4. So it's very inexpensive, and that includes the equipment use and him training you. In English or Spanish and he is really good and very patient and I suggest if you want to learn very inexpensive and learn right and learn the best that you go to. Santa Maria needed an Ecuador and find the kite surfing school, and for Javier used to be a doctor in a super motor crosstralia. He is an amazing, amazing person and if you have a chance to be instructed and learn from him and be afraid of his, you will have made a lifelong great friend.

A fabulous beach with few people doesn't get better than this. The water was great! Waves are huge and the rip current during tides is strong. But beats the beaches with 1,000s of people. Perfect place for couples and people who want to enjoy a natural beach.

Grist private like location with beautiful long beaches to relax on and enjoy the cozy seaside town of Santa Marianita.
Rick Naya — Google review
If you are like me who enjoy small town and less crowds you will like this beach. It’s never crowded although there are more people on Sundays especially.
This beach are great for Kitesurfing. Wind comes around 11am and drops around 4pm. There are a total of 3 kite schools here if you want to take classes.
I have stayed here for 2 weeks now and I like how peaceful and tranquil this beach is. I take my morning and sunset walk whenever I am not occupied with other activities. During the day, it’s great to find a place to relax or read or yoga.

Rustic to modern homes, condos, hostels and B and B's. Unpaved beach walk and road. Small unassuming to high end eating places. But, $5.00 to rent a beach chair. Also, kite surfing school and equipment.

This is a beach located about 30 minutes from Manta. It is still quite underdeveloped but that's precisely the value of this place. There are a few places where you can eat and there also rental chairs at the beach. My recommendation is to visit it a couple of hours before the sunset so that you can experience nature's beauty, this is a magnificent place for pictures

Our favorite beach close to Manta is Playa Santa Marianita. This review is for the north end of the beach near Fish and the comedas. Cab ride from Manta is under $10. The cabanas and chair rentals fluctuate, but you should be able to negotiate them for $4/each for half a day. Christian with one of the restaurants right next to the parasailing school walks up and down the beach with menus, offering to the bring the meal to you, which we did on several occasions. The fried shrimp is butterflied and absolutely amazing! The dishes come with salad, rice, patacones and rosa salsa. The beach is clean and nice with few rocks, and not very crowded the times we were there. Watch out for high tide, as the beach chairs will be washed away. They are usually picked up at high tide. We had drinks at Fish and they were beautiful and delicious. One day we tried the drinks served up in a pineapple for $5. The man who runs the place knew exactly what he was doing and wasn't light on the alcohol. We love this area and felt very safe.
Lisa Hoxie — Google review
It's a beautiful public beach, it's 20 minutes driving from the downtown, and even when it's quite far from the city, it totally worth it, because the two beaches in the city are crowded and the water is polluted because of all the ships.

I had an enjoyable diving experience with Native Diving and highly recommend them to anyone seeking a fantastic underwater adventure. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and went the extra mile to ensure safety and enjoyment. Instructor Jules was exceptional. Despite my initial nervousness as a first-time diver, the patient and understanding team explained everything in detail and made sure I was comfortable with the equipment before entering the water. I had such a great time that I am already planning my next trip with them.
Took our open water and advanced courses here, Duber was our instructor and spoke good English and it was lots of fun. Would recommend if you’re looking to get into diving while in Ecuador. Great price good equipment and snacks between dives.
Mat Bircher — Google review
I hate giving 1 stars, but I have been a diver since 2009 (I am now 32 years old) & I was really concerned with the level of professionalism & safety with this dive company.
I had read all the reviews & seen '4.6 star' so thought they were good.
Here are the big 'stand out' problems which I hope you address:
1. Of 8 x staff members on board, only 1 x introduced themselves. With all my dive experience, we know who the dive masters are and who is our guide for each group.
2. Our 'dive master' was the captain of the boat who drove to the dive site & spoke no English. He never once asked our names, never once introduced himself, or asked our level of diving or even said 'hello' or 'how are you'. Super awful, especially once you've driven 90 minutes out to sea to Baja cope and paid $120.00
3. The dive school Never asked for my diver license (I could have been lying about my scuba level). This is super dangerous.
4. We were stuck in a BIG group of PADI open water & Advanced divers. The majority of the dive, the diver master was checking to see if the students had enough air. I don't understand why we had to be in one big group. This was ridiculous.
5. The equipment was not great. There was no depth gage. How are you supposed to know how deep you are?? I spoke to the PADI students and I found put they were not learning with a depth gage - this is so dangerous and not PADI certification. Also some of the respirators leaked or where too short. I drank so much water on my second dive.
6. Once back on shore, there was no regroup / signatures in dive books. It seems they don't even do this exercise with the students. Makes me so sad. As when I was learning this was the best part! (Talking about the dive, researching fish, learning more). Lazy instructors?? Or they simply don't care, or perhaps don't know how to be teachers?
If you want to learn, I would learn elsewhere. This is not the proper dive experience, sorry to say.💔💔💔

I had the pleasure of diving with Native Diving and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great diving experience. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and they went above and beyond to make sure that I had a safe and enjoyable time. My instructor Jules was was also brilliant.
I had never been diving before, so I was a little nervous about the experience. However, the staff there were very patient and understanding, and they took the time to explain everything to me in detail. They also made sure that I was comfortable with the equipment before we went in the water.
I had such a great time with them that I'm already planning my next trip. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a great diving experience.
P.s. English speaking

It was my first diving. On the first day I had problems equalizing the water pressure. The instructor was very patient with me. Outside of the group he took me on a separate dive. I managed it. On the next all worked fine and we had a fantastic day. The instructor worked all around the world. He is highly experienced. We very much recommend this dive center.

Great place. Super friendly and yet very professional staff. Multilingual and experienced divers. Their Orchards site is fantastic and the boat ride is very pleasant. We dove 4 times with Jean Pierre, great diver. He got me air while struggling with my buoyancy and current. While the rest of family went on their discovery dive with Ganin, very sweet and patient instructor. You can go with full confidence.
christian porzio — Google review
Disappointing. We paid a lot of money to do Ahorcados Island. The staff were very professional and the equipment was good so I'll give credit for that. But the diving itself was just horrible.
We were a group of 8, including 2 instructors, and the first dive was absolute chaos. The current was so strong most of the dive was people hitting into each other and swimming on the spot wasting time and energy. I was being told to go lower even though my belly was practically on the sea floor. After a long time it got nicer and saw a few fish in the last 10 minutes. Instructor said "that's what happens, you never know what's gonna be under the water". Okay, fair enough, I was willing to give them another chance.
The second dive was even worse. It was supposed to be a drift dive, but same problems. Swimming against an incredibly strong current for a large part of the dive. Me and my girlfriend were at the back and the current felt impossibly strong. We got separated from the group. They came back and found us, so I am grateful for that. Again, saw a few fish, but nothing amazing and only in the last 10 minutes.
I can appreciate not all this is the fault of the school, and wildlife and conditions aren't guaranteed, but we paid $180 for us both for maybe 10 minutes of enjoyable diving per dive. I admit we are pretty new divers but some in our group were doing their Open Water, so it's not an experience thing.
The wildlife wasn't anything special and the visibility wasn't great either. Certainly no chance of seeing rays or turtles in that. I had 10x better diving in Colombia at half the price.
They have good reviews so maybe we got unlucky. But I certainly won't be going back.
Joe U — Google review
I’m pretty surprised to read so many 5 star reviews here (which is the reason we chose Native diving) but perhaps it was a lot of new divers who don’t know any better. Granted I’m a relative newbie of 20 dives but by far my worst ever experience (but the same was for my gf who has over 15 years of experience)
#1 issue - sharing the boat and dive site with 4 divers doing their PADI certification is not an issue - it is however an issue if you are then asked to all follow the same divemaster leader as our first dive was honestly absolute chaos. 10 divers on top of each other - no one seemed to have any idea what was going on. Second dive we “split up” but they were on top of us still. And the chaos continued.
#2 - professionalism wasn’t really there for the divemasters - barely proper introductions or assessment of skill level and and overall everything seemed super chaotic throughout the experience from even getting gear to getting to the dive site. Dive master was mostly intent on filming things on his GoPro and paying little attention.
#3 - equipment - bcd was leaking air the whole time (both at the controls and on the back), occy took in water every breathe, was made to feel stupid for asking for assistants to rectify issues with equipment.
#4 - safety - I think the dive site conditions were extremely challenging for beginners (we found the currents to be horrendous and the rough swell was hectic) we were luckily fine but taking a diver on their third dive ever there seemed insane to us.
I think overall that the people were nice and well meaning but there’s just been a severe slip in the necessary standards of this dive shop that must be addressed before something goes horribly wrong.
Positives - nice snacks and Sandos, amazing wildlife turtles galore and morays and even a Strargazer (we dove Bajo Cope)
Amazing humpback whale displays jumping around us the whole way out and back. Sadly no manta rays even though it’s the season (apparently water too warm still)

I did my open water certificate with native diving Ecuador and it was a great experience. Very knowledgeable French, English and Spanish speaking instructors with a love for the sport and appreciation and respect for the marine life. On the second day we went far out into the open waters to look for manta rays. Definitely no ordinary first diving experience.
Surfboard rental was easy and cheap for only $7 for 1.5 hours. The beginner foam boards don't have wax on them, which makes them a little slippery, but still great to learn on. The staff was friendly and courteous. Great surf instructors here too!

I really loved this place and it was definitely one of my favorite places in Ecuador. The atmosphere is so nice and friendly, I felt very save in Ayampe even during night, my Spanish teacher was really nice and I learnt a lot in five days, the snacks in the cafe are so good and doing yoga every morning was the best way to start the day at the beach.
