Cerro Rico is a mountain peak known for its historically large silver deposits, which made Potosi the wealthiest city in the Americas. The mines of Cerro Rico are said to be the richest on earth and provided locals with an abundance of silver for making tools and shoeing horses. However, mining conditions were hazardous, resulting in millions of worker fatalities over time due to inadequate safety equipment and infrastructure.
Instead of visiting the mines with an organised tour, I decided to climb the mountain. You can follow the roads used by the trucks (and that's probably the easiest way to the top) or you can scramble some parts to save time. Plenty of places with loose rocks so be careful. The summit of the mountain collapsed in 2011 and formed a crater. Watch out for the dogs.

Very eye-opening experience to take a tour here. Astonished how miners work the same way as they did hundreds of years ago. Koala tours is recommended as they are a responsible agency.
Gergely Szekely — Google review
Visiting the mines is not a joke but it's such a strong experience and I believe shouldn't be missed while in Potosi.
Cinzia Corr. — Google review
This place is arguably one of the most painful and intensely violated place I’ve been: this mountain is the symbol of a century-long robbery that has been going on since the discovery of its silver, and it is the grave of thousands of people that poison themselves by working tirelessly in its dark caves chasing easy money. Its energy is one of illusion, it’s scarred face is the totem of a culture based on a very very volatile value.
Go by all means and walk into a mine, you will never forget it, ever.
Paola Evelina — Google review
Very good
Kayky Reis — Google review
Iconic mountain with a dramatic history dominating the city centre. Lots of mines are still functioning these days: try to visit them with a local guide and buy some presents for the poor miners as an expression of respect, solidarity and interest
Geert Loosveld — Google review
Breathtaking place. There you learn a bit on how the European exploration of the minerals in South America just produced misery and poverty for the locals. You avoid this place (at least the labyrinth visit) if you are claustrophobic.
Gilli — Google review
Mine tours are amazing. make sure you take masks with you. Therr is so much dust im the mines.
Laks Vanamurthy — Google review
Must see in Bolivia. Great tour with lot of information. You can buy the respirator at miners market you don't have to buy overpriced scarf from your tour guide. Instead spend some extra bucks on the stuff for miners.
The National Mint of Bolivia is a renowned museum located in the former mint building in Potosi. It showcases an impressive collection of coins, old machinery and tools used for silver-making. Originally built under orders from the Viceroy of Toledo in 1572, this replacement building is a grand example of baroque architecture that occupies an entire city block. Whether you're a numismatist or not, the history behind the first global currency is fascinating and worth exploring.
We took the French tour which cost us 40 Bolivian. You need to pay 20 Bolivian more in order to take pictures in the museum. It’s up to you but I did without it and took a lot of notes instead and worked out well. The tour is 1hour. I highly recommend it. The history of money in potosi allow you to understand the Spanish colonialism, how the indigenous and animals have been manipulated in order to gather the wealth to the great kingdom. Sad but real.

Unfortunately our english guide was not speaking that good English well that would not have been a big problem if he had a lot of knowledge about the history but even on that he was missing out.
The order how we got „guided“ through the old and badly curated Museum was totally confusing.
We for our selfe would have appreciated it if we got more information about the brutal abusion of the indegenous tribes and how the history of the silver mountain influenced the whole world and the kapitalism even until now!
Still today on a daily base a lot of workers in the mine crah in accidents, suffer from lounge problems and die at a very young age around 40 years.
I really don’t understand this lack of information.
We were shocked about the baby mumies in the cathedral… this was degrading, at the wrong place and inappropriate.
Potosí is a beautiful city rich of history and full of friendly and warm hearted people wich is worth visiting. This Museum could be so much better if the real history would be worked up well and presented different.
Paul Bachfisch — Google review
Interesting and well set up museum, but unfortunatelly, there were no tours in English and most of the information was only in Spanish. It means that as a foreigner you pay double what the locals pay and have to walk with the group (cannot explore on your own) and not understand anything. Not sure it is really worth the 40 BOB entrance ticket + 20 BOB for using the camea + almost 2 hours of your time.
Pavel Petrov — Google review
Maybe the third time over the past 30 years and is getting worse! From the front desk the guide and the security! All are rude and with no interest in give a good service! Is one Price for the locals another price for the gringos and another for camera! No freedom to walk around like was before! With no good English speaking guides ether! I don’t understand how can you keep a work in this important museum with a lack of knowledge or desire to improve yourself! I don’t think this place will be in my place to visit or recommend again!
Jhonny Aventura — Google review
While the museum's well-kept and the staff is friendly, personally, I didn't find it worth a visit. Charging 40 bolivianos for the ticket and an extra 20 bolivianos for photography? I'd rather spend that money on pizza just 2 blocks away.
Aside from the pricey tickets, most of the displayed items don't align well with the mint's theme. The oil paintings, though possibly valuable due to their age, fail to make a lasting impression given their mediocre quality.
What irks me the most is the mandatory guided tour. I'd much prefer the flexibility to spend more time in the section I'm interested in (only the mint) and skip the others.
BJ Tiew — Google review
A must see if you visit Potosí. Great artwork and a vital piece of history of the country.
Pablo D. Olmos — Google review
Unless you're really interested in that particular mint's history or are a numismatist, do not go. Foreigner fee 4 times higher than locals, additional 20 Bs for pictures, 40 for videos. A policeman in every room checking on you if you're not photographing. You pay quadruple as a foreigner but can only visit on a guided tour which is in Spanish. The facade looks neat but once you go inside the feel is ridiculous.
Tomek Soltys — Google review
English tour with knowledgeable guide. The history of the silver coins minted here is fascinating. Highly recommended. Tours run in Spanish, English and French at certain times daily and last one and a half hours.
Tallie Davel — Google review
The building is really beautiful but the attention is bad. We did a guided tour as you don't have a choice and we couldn't understand anything. The guide wasn't speaking distinctly or fluent. She didn't let us enjoy the place as we only had 30 second to see exposition, painting, rooms before running to the other one.
It's expensive and even if people tell you it's a must to see, it's not.
You can't buy tickets in advance.
Sententia Mundo — Google review
I paid *extra* just so I could use my cellphone to take some pictures. And still they scolded me three times in front of the whole tour group because they said I was taking video with my phone and they warned me how they were watching me on security camera at all times. These people need to chill.
The building is cool. The tour itself is a pretty normal tour, though especially slow. Parts are interesting, but it's about 30 minutes worth of information stretched out over almost 2 hours. People were literally sitting and waiting before the guide would continue to the next room. I spent 20 minutes looking at rocks in one room, trying to entertain myself without any additional information provided.
It could have been an ok, boring tour, but their ridiculous intensity about a few cellphone photos made it one of the most negative and frustrating days of my entire trip. Even without that, I honestly wouldn't recommend it to others unless you have multiple hours to kill and have already done everything else in town.
Thomas Lorne — Google review
There are two main things to see, either both or at least one. This is the one I chose and you get an English guide. The second is the silver mines themselves.
Sabrina Gosney — Google review
A very interesting story and of Bolivias history.
The building is beautiful and you get to see the inside.
Jens Peter Olesen — Google review
I did the guided tour through English and really enjoyed it. The guide was extremely knowledgeable. The exhibits were very interesting. The tour is very good value for money!
Ciara O'Leary — Google review
Waited around all day for an English tour which is not starting at the advertised times on the website. We were informed that no English tours would happen all day so we had to join a Spanish one. Displays are mostly in Spanish as well. It would be great to set the expectation that an English tour would only take place with a minimum of 6-10 people.
Lydia Weber — Google review
Absolutely amazing, every room you enter is a new Wow
Paola Andrea Miranda Barrios — Google review
Fantastic tour here—one of the best in the country. The guides were funny and knowledgeable and offered real insights into the life and times of Potosi’s heyday, and the exhibits inside the Mint are maintained well so that visitors can understand the conditions of the workers and the historical progression of the minting over the centuries. Certainly a tour worth taking.

Uyuni Salt Flat, known as the world's largest salt desert, is a breeding ground for flamingos and an awe-inspiring spectacle. The expansive terrain resembles a desert or arctic tundra, but comprises of salt up to 30 feet thick. This prehistoric site was once part of Lago Minchin, a salt lake that covered much of southwest Bolivia before drying up and leaving behind seasonal puddles and several salt pans.
Such a beautiful and majestic place on this earth! Mi encanta! Worth a visit! ✨🌙♥️

Incredible place. Unique experience. I visited the salar while traveling in peru. Unfortunately I was not feeling very well and I was not able to fully live the experience. It is an hard tour, it lasts 3 days, but it allows you to see breathtaking places. We took part to an organized tour, with jeeps, which made it more adventurous. Highly recommended

This place is sooo beautiful. Crazy what the world can do. Went for a sunset and stargazing tour as well as a day one and because the landscape changes so frequently we got different pictures each time. 100% worth it

This place is INSANE. It seems like from another planet. I was afraid it wouldn’t meet my expectations but I couldn’t have never imagined how amazing it actually was. I went on March and the weather was perfect so I was able to see the mirror effect and stunning sunsets there. When it gets windy you can see waves and it’s beautiful, and think when the wind disappears it’s just quiet and infinite and perfectly beautiful. Wouldn’t change this trip for anything in the world!!!

Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni is considered one of the most extreme and remarkable vistas in all of South America, if not Earth. Stretching more than 4,050 square miles of the Altiplano, it is the world’s largest salt flat, left behind by prehistoric lakes evaporated long ago. Here, a thick crust of salt extends to the horizon, covered by quilted, polygonal patterns of salt rising from the ground.
At certain times of the year, nearby lakes overflow and a thin layer of water transforms the flats into a stunning reflection of the sky. This beautiful and otherworldly terrain serves as a lucrative extraction site for salt and lithium—the element responsible for powering laptops, smart phones, and electric cars. In addition to local workers who harvest these minerals, the landscape is home to the world's first salt hotel and populated by road-tripping tourists. The harsh beauty and desolateness of Salar de Uyuni can make for an incredible experience or a logistical nightmare. Here’s a guide to help:
Located at the crux of Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina, the logistics and length of your trip to Salar de Uyuni will depend where you’re coming from. Tours originate from three main places:
Uyuni, Bolivia: The most popular jumping-off point for salt flats tours, Uyuni is a small, dusty town packed with tourism agencies in Plaza Arce, its main square. Travelers can book tours in advance online, through tour offices in La Paz, or they can simply arrive in Uyuni and peruse the options in town. Since Uyuni is so close to the salt flats, tourists can easily book day trips. Flights from La Paz to Uyuni can be booked through Amaszonas and BoA (one hour, about $130 round-trip). Overnight buses from La Paz are available with Trans Omar and Todo Turismo (10-12 hours, $30 to $40 each way).
San Pedro de Atacama, Chile: Agencies drive travelers to the border before handing the tour over to a Bolivian operator. Due to the distance, this is a three-day tour.
Tupiza, Bolivia: This is the best starting point for travelers coming from Argentina. Tour operators recommend four-day tours from Tupiza, visiting Salar de Uyuni on the final day.

Breath taking view and atmosphere. However, a 5"11 Japanese man started running towards me whilst screaming and turning into a demon then back into a human over and over again. I was a bit taken aback, but it was a great location nonetheless.

Great experience. 👍
This is probably (and most likely) the only thing that you will do in Uyuni 😀
A few notes:
- in my opinion 1 day tour is enough (if you decide to do more than 1 day, make sure you ask about the accommodation and heating at night in the accommodation, and also electricity as some of the salt falts don't have electricity and mainly operated by a few hours of fuel generators a day)
- the weather can get quiet cold and harsh so I recommend have proper warm clothing.
- bring a blanket or two from your hotel if you can
- take a warm hat, scarf and gloves. The cold wind is not forgiving.
- take 50+ sunscreen and apply generously if you don't want to suffer the day after. Don't forget to put sun protection on your lips and your ears, if you don't want painful and brittle cracks on them the day after.
- Altitude won't be in your favour, so if you are not used to it sooner or later you will feel it, best remedy drink lots of water and chew on coca leaves (locals swear on its remedial power for altitude skiness)
- the main attractions of 1 day tour are:
1 Train cemetery (this is actually only 5 mins drive from Uyuni itself),
2 driving on the salt,
3 salt hotel (generally that's were tours have their lunch there, but there is no cooking as there is no electricity),
4 pictures with some dianasuer toys (have fun you will be suprised with the results),
5 cactus island (30 BOB cash entry fee which includes moderate hike of 40 to 60mins return, plus you can use tye bathrooms unlimited, rare case in this area)
6 Sunset (this one was the highlight for me)
- if you are going by yourself make sure take some rain boots as towards the end and depending on the season there is a pool of water on the salt.
- if you are going by yourself make sure ask locals on how to get there, apparently on the map there seems to be some short cuts which may end up in a disaster based on what I've heard from locals
- the shared day tours generally cost between 30 to 50 euros which include, food, 4WD transport, an English tour guide, and rain boots.
Hadi Mashin — Google review
The Salar was formed as a result of transformations between several prehistoric lakes that existed around forty thousand years ago but had all evaporated over time. It is now covered by a few meters of salt crust, which has an extraordinary flatness with the average elevation variations within one meter over the entire area of the Salar. The crust serves as a source of salt and covers a pool of brine, which is exceptionally rich in lithium. The large area, clear skies, and exceptional flatness of the surface make the Salar ideal for calibrating the altimeters of Earth observation satellites. Following rain, a thin layer of dead calm water transforms the flat into the world's largest mirror, 129 km (80 mi) across.

Amazing must see place. One thing to bear in mind is make sure to get a good tour guide as in one who would try to communicate with you, help you take fantastic photos and gets involved a bit and shows some interest of the place as we had one who just wasn't so bothered and a bit rude, we had a couple who was told one thing by agency and he told them something different. So in other words make sure you know what your paying for and make sure to get it as again we were told certain things would be included in tour and we paid, as we got to the cacti island and also just to hike along the low hill parts of volcano whilst others went up, we were charged extra money for that, so quite misleading. Also it's worth to invest in luxury accommodation especially if you plan to do 2 nights or more (you won't regret it). The place itself is amazing to see, it's a shame about the tour guide.
P B — Google review
One of the craziest places on the planet. If you go when there is a layer of water on the salt, the sky reflects off the water and blends ground and sky together, so you feel as if you are walking in the clouds. A very surreal experience!
Blake Cronyn — Google review
I heard about it for the first time on TV and thought I'd like to go. It was extremely far away, time consuming, and difficult. However, it is the best scenery in my life that erases all the hardships. It's a very mysterious scene where you don't know where the boundary between the sky and the horizon is.

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Recommend doing at least a complete day tour, and also the night star tour.
Isla Incahuasi, also known as Inkawasi, is a rocky outcrop located in the middle of Salar de Uyuni's vast salt flats. It features giant Trichocereus cacti and is surrounded by a flat white sea of hexagonal salt tiles.
Must see when visiting the salt flats. You need to pay an entrance fee to visit the island. There is also a WC in the island. Unique views from the top and all around you just the salt flats. The amount of cactuses is impressive.

Small island in the middle of the salt lake. Entrance fee is 30BOB. There is a short hiking path to the top. There you will enjoy a beautiful 360 view. The stop here is part of the Uyuni salt tour.

Nice oasis in the middle of nowhere, we had breakfast here on salt tables and chairs. You have to pay a small sum to visit the hill, but it is worth it in my opinion. The view from the top is quite nice, especially at dawn or while the sun is still rising low on the horizon. You can even camp close to the hill for the night, if you need to plant a tent or something.
Andrea Collovini — Google review
We enjoyed this. We paid to go in and it as a short bit of a hike to get to the top. Some people were winded. It's in the middle of no where and incredible. I say pay- it supports the people who live there. We met some other kids that just walked around it to find the cactus on the out rim that looked like a mans XXXX. They said they found it. That was their priority :p

My congratulations to Natalia, who guided us from start to finish on our trip and took care of every detail 👌 and of course, to the guides and drivers who accompanied us on the tours, they are too dry and we must take advantage of those instances to feed on the knowledge and wisdom they possess.

We did the one day tour from Putre to Lauca National Park. We only stopped in Putre to do this tour. The guide was punctual and on time and stopped whenever we wanted to take photos. He also answered our questions and checked we understood given our language barriers. But he didn’t offer up much information at all. However he took us to the CONAF office of the park and there the Ranger gave us a great little tour along the path beside the lake. We thought he might of done this because the guide spoke excellent English but we noticed the guide met all private cars as well. Then we drove along the desert route back to Putre stopping at all the CONAF points along the way and a stop in Parinacota to see the cute little church. It was a stormy rainy day but still spectacular scenery. One of our sons had a cold but he wanted to come but just stay in the car. We then returned to Putre for lunch and the tour finished. We don’t know if the tour finished early because our son was sick or that was the end - but it would have been nice to have been asked. Honestly, we felt like this was only a little more than hiring a car and doing it ourselves, especially as the best info we got was from the CONAF Ranger and the best part of the tour is the beautiful scenery. You can also see most of this scenery when you come from La Paz on the bus, which we did the day before (but of course you can’t stop and enjoy it).

The guides are all very attentive, kind and know their respective regions well. The picnics are excellent, we always ate very well. The passage from San Pedro de Atacama on the first night in Bolivia (at 4600m) was a little rough for altitude sickness (we should have prepared ourselves better or added one more night at an intermediate altitude to get used to it).
Communication with Gabriel was sometimes difficult, but he was extremely friendly and always answered our questions. The tour went well and it is an agency that I recommend.

This is a nice little museum not too far away from Arica. It's a little difficult to get too as the only major sign points as a dirt road, it's a billboard just before you enter town (if coming from the direction of Arica). The center itself is well kept and the museum that houses the mummies does a good job of showcasing and educating without being overwhelming. Allocate 45 minutes to see everything on display.
Note: some of these mummies are on display at the Pre-Colombian Museum in Santiago so if you miss them here make sure you see them there.
St. Mark's Cathedral in Arica is a must-visit attraction, designed by the renowned French engineer Gustave Eiffel, who also built the Eiffel Tower. The cathedral was constructed on the site of the old Mother Church of Arica, which was destroyed in an earthquake in 1868. Its interior features stunning cast iron design and unique wooden paneling typical of Chilean Catholic churches. During Christmas season, it becomes a vibrant hub of music and colorful carnival celebrations.
Beautiful metal building. Small but efficient space. Beautiful statues inside.
John Magno — Google review
Wonderful church designed by French Architect Eiffel (like the tower), you can see that the interior uses a wonderful cast iron design, and a unique feature of Chilean Catholic Churches, the use of wooden paneling.

The San Marcos Church, the current cathedral of Arica was ordered to be built by Peruvian President Don José Balta in 1871 to Gustave Eifell's workshops in France, finishing its construction in 1875. In those years the Eifell workshops were important suppliers of public works in Latin America, and delivered buildings, bridges and all kinds of structures mainly of cast iron packed in drawers that were shipped and then assembled at the destination.
Originally the church was destined to the Peruvian spa of Ancón, but the earthquake of 1868 completely destroyed the old Matrix Church of Arica and its assembly in the city of Arica was resolved
Morro de Arica is a prominent hill that offers stunning panoramic views of the city and coastline. Standing at 110 meters, it provides a perfect vantage point to witness breathtaking sunsets. The hill also houses the Museum of History and Weapon, making it a dual attraction. At its summit stands an 11-meter tall sculpture called The Christ of Peace, symbolizing peace between Peru and Chile. Visitors can enjoy not only the natural beauty but also learn about the historical significance of the region.
Pay attention to the sign or you could wind up getting locked in.

Quiet at 9am. Really interesting plaques all around about Arica and the history of Northern Chile. Walk from Cristobal Colon street is intense but worth it, a lot of stairs. You can see all over Arica and the sea to the left and south of the city. There are benches to rest.

El Morro is a beautiful hill that you can climb on in just 15 minutes. On the top you will see huge part of Arica. There are reminders of an important historical point - Battle of Arica during The War of the Pacific, you can visit a museum there too. Locals are jogging, hiking or biking there. I am giving 2 stars because of all the trash there, it is shameful and extremely disrespectful to this place and I dont understand how it can be so dirty since the place is locked down during night and we've seen a lot of employees there (so somebody could be allocated to pick up the trash!).

Must to do, if you are in Arica, a great lookout of all the bay, and the city. Good place to see the sunset and how the city turn on the lights (I prefer the night view of the cities) also is a historical and important place for all people from Arica.
Sebastian Orbenes — Google review
Best place to view the city from. It's a short drive, taxi, or more difficult bike ride up the mountain. You can park at the top, walk around, and there is a military museum.

One of the most famous touristic places in Arica with the nice view. You can get there with the car or walking. If you ready to do the hike the best time to go is 8 am, because its getting really hot later.

Great site to see the full panorama of Chilean border history with Peru. Also, the view is incredible to admire.
The open air museum of Petroglifos de Miculla showcases ancient rock carvings depicting hunting and dancing figures in arid landscapes, believed to be centuries old. This cultural site holds great significance in Tacna and can be accessed via a city tour or by car. The museum is located away from the city but is included in the tour package that costs around 30-40 soles (official currency of Peru).
It has a wonderful view and verybrustic bridges around.

This is an important place in Tacna as it represents a significant cultural aspect of the place. You can get there by car as well as you can take a city tour. The petroglyphs of Miculla are not located in near the city but they are also part of the city tour, which costs between 30 to 40 soles (official currency in Peru ~ 9 to 13 USD~)
The Mercado Central is a bustling shopping hub that houses various vendors offering fresh fruit, meat and locally made handicrafts. In addition to this, it boasts of popular restaurants that serve delicious breakfast to visitors. The market is well-maintained and clean making it a preferred choice for shoppers who always buy here. One can also find quality Olive oil at the renowned vendor "Comercial Blanquita" G2.
This market is clean ... Neat , I would definitely buy here ALWAYS!
Sisa Waylla (Kusi) — Google review
Its a place where we can experience local food at a fraction of the price compared to tourist restaurants. Very competitive on that matter because there's many Chileans also working there. You can compare it to a huge grocery store and bargain store all in one. Fruits and vegetables are very cheap and they bring them in large quantities, what's favorable to tourists looking for local fruits or veggies because they sell it buy the kilo. I myself got 5 mangoes for a dollar (3.80 soles) and broccoli for 50 cents (about a pound) - that's just a small example. Its not really a touristic place, its a local community commercial center. Still, great to find amazing bargains!

A traditional place, recently refurbished, with many different things, starting for small convenience stores, with local products, milk, chocolates and any sort of thing for cooking or cleaning. LOL.
In the second floor you cand find a nice display of natural juice makers, who tempt you with fresh fruit slices for free like mangoes and melons. It is very cheap and juices are awesome because of the quality of the organic local fruits, tasty and aromatic. And for less than a dollar you can drink the WHOLE BLENDER. Yes, the whole blender.
There's a hidden sublevel where you can buy alcohol and cigarrettes from all around the world for very good prices (JW black for $40 bottle) and also there's nice cheap place to get a manicure or pedicure with nail design for less than $3 dollars.
In the surroundings you can find pirate buses to Arica, most of them, chilean. Good option to avoid crowded buses at the international station.

Tacna Cathedral is a stunning neo-renaissance edifice that was constructed in 1875 under the supervision of Gustave Eiffel, the renowned architect who designed the Eiffel Tower. Beautifull landscape, alpacas, fatastic views of the volcanos, there were stops for refreshments. Altitude varied from about 3000m upto a maximum height of 4910m at the look out view of the Sabayanca Volcano which was puffing out ash.

Such a beautiful road indeed, here it has all: river, railway , beautiful landscape mountains , step glass , rocks and volcanos range.

Incredible place! During the wet season you can spot the pink flamingoes on the Salinas lake, flying against the mountains. There are also vicuñas and llamas grazing by the lake.
Depending on the water level you can also walk on great part of the lake perimeter, better to bring a 4x4 if you want to drive on it.
The gravel road continues further from this point, but if you want to go behind the stunning Misti Wasi you better be driving a four wheel vehicle with decent ground clearance. Depending on recent rainfall you will probably need to cross a small river at some point. You will also need a permit obtained in Arequipa to use the road past the Aguada Blanca Power Station Gate or you'll need to turn back on your steps!
This road is definitely worth it if you have the courage and the spirit for adventure!

Arequipa's iconic Plaza de Armas is a historic centerpiece of the city that is home to the city's cathedral and colonial buildings housing restaurants and cafes. The plaza is flanked by arches made of white volcanic rock that give it its characteristic look. The Katari Hotel at Plaza de Armas offers comfortable accommodations with free WiFi access in Arequipa.
Beautiful square! During the day great to take some amazing photos of the center of the so called “white city” while at night in transforms into a street art exhibition - there are a lot of bands playing live music but also other artists showing their talents.

The Santa Catalina Monastery is a large and beautiful convent open to the public that features guided tours. It is one of the most interesting religious buildings in Peru, with its complex architecture and lively gardens. It has been destroyed several times by earthquakes, but restoration work has preserved much of the original design.

This is a fascinating trip through the history of the religious side of - but also the general history of - Arequipa, Peru. Dating from the 1500s and still housing 20 devout nuns it is a beautiful and obviously revered part of the community and traditions of the area. Group tours are available in Spanish and English at the entrance and the gift shop has handmade items and foods made by the nuns.

Tours are offered of this ancient Nazca cemetery featuring mummified human remains & artifacts.
Remote desert area with around a dozen excavated, and sadly looted burial sites. Mummies are in various states of decay, but definitely worth checking out. There is even still some skin on one of them. Pots and bone fragments are in many of the graves.
However, due to local corruption, none of the entrance money is used to preserve the mummies, with only an adobe wall to protect from the wind and a skimpy shade overhead. If nothing is done soon, these treasures will be lost forever and sadly no one in government seems to care.

Ohhh! Okay guys, first Peru in general is awesome! You need to go on the coast cause everything is amazing! But Chauchilla Cemetery is definetely one of the coolest thing I ever saw. It's hot! Bring water. Enjoy!

Interesting reenactment of what the tombs could have looked like before being robbed.
But please, do something about the trash.... Each and every single tomb had pieces of plastic trash in it (cups, plastic bags, candies, .... ).
Jeremy — Google review
Pretty interesting place. We went there a few days ago and it is suppose to closed during the pandemic, but you can still get there, park your car, walk around and see the graves. It's an open space in the middle of nowhere, no one was there, we found some trash inside of a few graves.
Ivana Vysna — Google review
The cemetery is an amazing place. All of the people buried were facing east toward the rising sun. Worth the long drive.
Bruno Soltic (Archaeology Bruno) — Google review
Chauchilla cemetery. I personally never witnessed mummies before so this was an extremely unique encounter.
As you arrive in what can only be described as the middle of nowhere, hundreds of tombs are hidden below your feet and under the sand.
Gravediggers in the past ransacked these tombs and stole valuable items like jewellery that usually got buried with the deceased. Pottery and bones are scattered around and in the tombs. It's believed that the grave site contains pre-hispanic remains but we were also told that the Ica Chicha (pre incan civilization dating back 1000 years) are found here.
Some of the mummies are very well preserved. You can even see neck muscles on some of them. It's an eerie, morbid location where you stare death in it's face.
If you're lucky, you might spot burying owls in this location as well.

Around 40 min driving from Nazca lies fhis old cemetary. It consists of multiple holes in the ground containing preserved sitting bodies, which is both amazing and lugubrious at the same time.
Surrounding the cemetary are mountains and rocky grounds, proving you with a great view. Such a shame that so much was damaged before it was protected. Highly recommend
Aladar Kuun — Google review
The twelve excavated graves give a good picture of the burial rites of the Icachincha culture. In the rectangular graves you can see mummies (some with meters long hair strands), skulls, bones and burial gifts. Very interesting and educational.
Koen — Google review
All the graves were robbed in the 80s. What remains today is a room where there is a mummy on display and a number of open graves where assorted bones and remains have been placed in no particular order.
If you are close by pop in but I wouldn't recommend making a special visit.

Acueductos de Cantalloc
Mentioned on
Archaeological museum
Sights & Landmarks
Ancient Ruins
The Acueductos de Cantalloc archaeological museum is a collection of dozens of spiral stone aqueducts built by the Nazca culture. These impressive structures still serve their original purpose today, and can be an excellent educational opportunity for visitors.
Absolute must see if you're in Nazca. Amazing structures still in use today. We certainly can learn a thing or two from the way they're done.
Nikondgo — Google review
Another astounding example of Peruvian ruins that cannot be credibly attributed to a people that lived in this desert nearly 2000 years ago.
Worth every minute it takes to get here as it is so astonishing, particularly as the water system continues to serve the area's townships still today.
Stunning...
John Atherton — Google review
Amazing set of spiral aqueducts that are fascinating and very attractive. Needs more on-site interpretation but just to be able to see these ancient features up close is a privilege and should be on everyone's itinerary in Nasca.
Tom Mutton — Google review
I thought these were pretty cool. Not much in the way of information about them.
Bry — Google review
Very interesting and there was a man working there who spoke English.
Chip W — Google review
Nice attraction. Took a taxi to get here but you need to hire them by the hour from Nasca. 25-30 soles per hour is fair but this is 2023 pricing. About two hours total is more than enough to include to, from, and walking around. I wouldn't say this is a handicapped accessible attraction for people with walkers or wheelchairs. It's a relatively small place that little kids should be able to walk just fine. You can get a guide but check Wikipedia and the Internet about this place it'll be sufficient unless you're a factophile and need more in-depth info. This is a very cool place and if you really like ruins and ancient cultures, it's a must see! They keep it very clean! I recommend seeing the Mirador de Vista Alegre after this. You can easily do the two in an afternoon with time left over. The same taxi can take you to it and leave you there. Plenty of taxis leaving Vista Alegre that you can catch when you come down... Plus it's free to see the mirador.

The ancient Nazca Acueducts of Cantalloc are over 2,000 years old and are still functioning with running water. It was a treat to explore them and to walk down inside them. It is special when we get to walk, see, and touch ancient history and connect with it. The location is free to visit and are very impressive. Don't just go to Nazca to see the Nazca lines, see the acuductos, the museum, the pyramid, and the Inca building. The pottery place was wonderful too, as we got to hold original pottery and see how it is made.
Following the ramp down feels like entering the Nazca era, going back it time.
It is a family friendly and safe place to visit.
To learn more about the history, culture, and construction of the Auceductos de Cantalloc, wikipedia is a great in-deaph place to learn. It is fun to see how the Nazca culture has similarities with modern cultures of you look deep enough, even though at first it seems completely unrelated.
Learning about the geography gives us insights about their ways of life and beliefs

Not much info, except a boards at the entrance gate. We went without a guide and it was still fascinating to see the spiral stone-packed ducts for access to the underground channels. Amazing feat of construction by the Nasca civilization, The aqueducts ensured the supply of water to the city of Nazca and the surrounding fields, allowing the cultivation of cotton, beans, potatoes, and other crops in an arid region.
Vincent Oliver — Google review
Very interesting. Fascinating history, 1500 years old and still functioning. Amazing how they found the groundwater and engineering the slope
Horatiu Baiasu — Google review
It's a small site and there wasn't really much information, but it was pretty and since we had a few hours to kill in Nazca we were very glad we visited. It's worth paying a cab to wait for you though - we couldn't find one and in the end we basically hitch hiked back

Interesting to see a Nazca aqueduct. We went with a guide which was beneficial as he explained about the local geology and climate leading to minimal water in this desert region; the need for covered and uncovered sections to reduce evaporation and allow purificationand cleansing of the water; and why there are the circular, spiral stonework for access and oxygenation. You only need about 20 minutes at this site but a ripped can be combined with local miradores (viewpoints) of some Nazca lines and a Nazca temple archeological site.

Carlos was an amazing guide! It was organized through Nazca Trave One hostel. Apparently only 10% of the Pyramids have been uncovered. They have found: 1) human offerings, 2) parrot/monkey offerings, 3) audio system was developed so the leader can speak and everyone at the bottom can also listen, 4) one of the pyramids was 100% made by hand one level at a time, and sand hills were not usd.
Logistically, it's about a 30 min bumpy ride through the outskirts of Nazca. It's cool though, you get to view all the farmland (cactus fruit farms, avocado farms, lemon farms, asparagus farms). There's also an unguarded cemetary where you can walk up freely to view the remains of the buried (human hair, pottery, bones - I saw a hip bone!)
There's a bathroom onsite, but I do recommend you to bring your own toilette paper!

Amazing history at this place. Very interesting how the time of flourishing and greatest prosperity was 100ad to 300ad and then destruction cataclysmically around 400ad. Fascinating correlation with the history and timeframes documented in the Book of Mormon. Very large pyramids partially restored. Long dirt road to get there
Ed H — Google review
We didn’t have much information about the side but our host recommended it. We drove with our own car and had a bit of a difficulty because google maps wanted to take us a road that was closed but with a bypass we made it. It’s easier to take the second entrance when you come from Nazcas. It’s a bit longer but the road is better. The side is really impressive and will give you and additional view about the Nazcas culture.

Great secluded place, note that you have to make 14 km off track each way. The off track is on the plateau where the Nazca glyphs can be found, but they are not readable from the ground.

I'll never travel to Lima without this trip planner again
The Nazca Desert is home to numerous geoglyphs, which are ancient and mysterious in origin. These massive lines were ingeniously carved by the Nazca people several centuries ago, forming various shapes such as animals, birds, pagan gods, and even an astronaut that can only be seen from high above in an aircraft. The Candelabra Geoglyph on Isla Ballestas is another similar attraction with a height of 150 meters and width of 50 meters.
Definitely seeing those figures from the plain was absolutely fantastic, great experience, you can feel peace being in land looking the firmament.

Definitely go in the plane. I was hesitant to go because pictures posted from the flights didn’t seem that great. But the actual view with my own eyes was crystal clear. I saw every drawing easily and clearly, and easily understood the co-pilots narration (English and Spanish). The two people behind me threw up, but the other 3 of us felt fine. Well worth $65.
Evan S — Google review
A set of biomorphic, phytomorphic and geometric geoglyphs designed and executed on the Nazca and Palpa desert, department of Ica, Peru, are known as the “Nazca lines”.
It is often believed that these lines can only be seen from the sky. For this reason, they have generated all kinds of questions and speculations. Were the Nazca lines dedicated to the gods? Was there possible technology at that time for the magnitude of this work? Were they runways for prototype aviation from the Nazca culture or, beyond, for extraterrestrial beings? Were they made by human hands?
The truth is that the beauty of the Nazca lines can be seen from the top of the surrounding hills, which radically changes the way of understanding them. In fact, this is how the Peruvian archaeologist Toribio Mejía Xesspe discovered them in the 20th century, specifically in 1927.
Interest in studying these geoglyphs did not spread until 1940, when Paúl Kosok and María Richie, two international researchers, published a series of aerial photographs taken by the National Aerographic Service.
These geoglyphs, that is, these inscriptions on large tracts of land, are enormous in size and can be easily observed from above, which has given rise to countless theories about the purpose of their creation.

I literally cried being, here it was a place I dreamt going to for many years, wanted to see this world heritage site. Totally recommended, there are tornados all around it's just spectacular.
Guillermo Guzman My Traveling Journal — Google review
I took the airplane tour to see the nazca lines from Paracas/Pisco. Definitely is a great experience.
1. Went to the airport with my passport (they have a cool stamp that you can put in your passport of the nazca lines)
2.Bring a good cámara.
3.The plane we used was great as it has one seat configuration and big windows, that means everyone will see the lines.
4. From Pisco to the NAZCA lines is a 40 minute flight
5. When you arrive to the NAZCA lines the captain of the plane start explaining where are all the figures and he fly by them so you can see them.
IMPORTANT INFO: IF YOU HAVE MOTION SICKNESS OR YOU GET DIZZY VERY EASY I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKE DRAMAMINE AS YOU WILL GET DIZZY VERY EASY BECAUSE OF THE PLANE MOVES FROM SIDE TO SIDE.
You will have the opportunity to see around 12 to 15 figures.
6. Fly back to Pisco Airport will take another 40 minutes.
Making long story short, for me is one of the best experiences but nobody told me of the extreme plane maneuvers so I wasn't prepare to get sick because all the movement, I wish somebody would tell me that.
Adolfo Martinez — Google review
Will remember this experience fondly. Flying above and witnessing amazing human feats. The plane ride can get bumpy and those with motion sickness should be prepared. Its a spectacular experience and rich history surrounds these plains.

Am besten sieht man die Linien/Figuren natürlich aus der Luft, also aus einem Flugzeug, was allerdings ein kostspieliges Vergnügen ist. Dennoch ziemlich beeindruckend.

We love the Nazca Lines, a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert of southern Peru. Created by the Nazca people between 500 BCE and 500 CE, these massive designs cover an area of about 450 square kilometers (170 square miles). Despite many theories, the exact purpose of the Nazca Lines remains a mystery, and researchers continue to explore and debate their significance in the context of Nazca culture and ancient civilizations.

Flight worth any penny. Unforgettable air travel to admire the world-famous carvings of the unknown origin. Unfortunately we couldn’t make the flight at the first day of our stay in Nazca due to windy conditions but didn’t lost any money as it was possible to use the same ticket next day. Definitely great attraction.

It was good except I didn’t feel very well during the flight, if you get motion sickness this might not be the best option. The airport is very hot and you’re waiting for an hour plus.
Viña Tacama is like a dream. We have been there 3 times, the third being for our wedding. This place is absolutely magical. The food is to die for, the wine delicious. We had their wine and food at our wedding and the guests loved it. They also have horses and do horse shows with dancers. The venue is perfect whether for a visit to the restaurant, a wine tour or for your special day :)

Beautiful and large winery! Drive in was a little sketchy on a tiny dirt road, all of the sudden you get to a big gate for the winery complex. We took the 1 hour tour, would’ve loved to do the full tour but they said they don’t have any English speaking guide for that, which is unfortunate, they should’ve specified this on their website. The complex and tour was nice, however the tour guide wasn’t very passionate at all.

I visited Tacama Winery with my parents and we had a very pleasant experience.
The wine tasting with their sommelier was excellent with a good variety of wines which were all very good. The sommelier was friendly and explained a lot about the different types of wines and the tasting process in general.
The stay in their restaurant was great aswell, with good food and good service.
Also the tour around the winery itself, the guide and another small tasting were very enjoyable experiences and I personally learned a lot about wine making, the assortments of grapes and the history of Tacama Winery.
Overall the personal is very well organised, the place is beautiful and the service is excellent. Of course their wines are just as good.
Thanks for the amazing time

We celebrated the 30th birthday of one of us here during our stay in Perù. Not only the food was amazing, but the wine as well (both the White and Red wines were superb, comparable in taste and uniqueness to our Italians wines). We also received an unexpected present for the birthday!
We would like to thank especially Raphael who was super expert in explaining all the different wines and food and made us appreciate 100% the lunch.
We really would like to buy wines online to Italy from this winery.

Beautiful winery. The food was overly abundant and excellent. Ordering a bottle of wine with dinner came with custom explanation of aeration and decanting. The tour was insightful but wished the choice of wines for tasting ranged better across the dry to sweets.

Huacachina is a small village located in southwestern Peru, near the city of Ica. It is situated in a desert oasis and is known for its therapeutic lagoon surrounded by palm trees. The village's shores are lined with bars and clubs, while its surroundings feature high sand dunes that can be explored on dune buggies or through sandboarding. Huacachina also offers reasonable accommodations, shops and even an oasis library amidst lush foliage.
I come here every year and I love it! They take you far into the dunes and the sand boarding is awesome. I would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Peru its is a MUST have on your list.

✨This place is just amazing...I am at a complete loss for words at the pure beauty of this place.
Also a word of advice, take a picture of the map in the entrance and you can find your way easier. There are some places that literally have no cell service (it's part of a true nature experience right) 😁
✨If you have the extra time, do visit here.
Of course, since the part that made it look like a cathedral broke in 2007 but you can still see the cliffs and the animals around. It's so peaceful and the breeze is so great!
Even as you look around all the different mountains have different colored sand over them. I haven't ever seen anything like it in my life! You look around and it's like waking up in a dream...it all looks like a huge painting and it's hard to believe it's real!
Also the staff around were very nice and courteous, only problem we had was the entrance fee they take only soles, plus they do not accept cards. (We were scrambling for change in our car lol) Any of the bathrooms we visited were all clean and well stocked.
Overall, I absolutely LOVED this experience!! I want to go back so badly!

La cattedrale itself isn't very stunning in my opinion, but the view of the coastline is quite something. Rent a taxi and tell the driver to bring you to the scenic spots, it's quite cheap and you can move at your own pace. Expect to be done in 2-3 hours.

This shot was taken in 1992. After the tour group at Isla Ballestas to see wildlife the boat driver dropped us on shore to camp for the night and we walked through the Penisula to The Cathedral. Playa La Mina de la Reserva Nacional de Paracas, Camino Catedral, 11550, Peru
National park where Pacific Ocean currents hit the desert of the South American mainland.
Very tiny beach! Bring your bikini, sun screen and towel - and sunbathe here! The waves are also strong, do it seems fun to run into them (seeing as how some did!). There's a little bit of shade, since there's a huge rock wall creating shade for those who don't enjoy direct sun exposure.
Someone is here selling umbrellas and chairs so you can sit comfortably. There's nothing to eat or drink here, so bring your own!
There are staircases that bring you down to the beach. Once you're at the bottom of the stairs, it will be quite rocky. Do note, you should watch for the waves because it could flood the entrance for a few seconds before the water recedes.
One cool thing here is the charcoal that can be found in the sand. Apparently folks used to mine charcoal is this desert!

A good tour and activity. We had to weirdly wait 40 mins for one person for our boat to complete its occupancy. When departed, it took 20 something minutes to reach the islands. Take a coat please, the breeze is extremely cold. On the islands itself, if you have never seen penguins and sea lions, it is a great experience. Interesting story around the bird poo as well.

(Translated by Google) Incredible! I was coming back from Huacachina and stopped by Paracas just to dip my feet in the Pacific, but a boat was leaving in 10 minutes and I ended up going. The best thing I did!!! It's a beautiful walk, even dolphins showed up to say "hi".

It is better to arrive early (approximately 8 am), because during the day there are long lines of tourists who want to go by boat to the islands.
