I recommend staying in a guesthouse that has parking close to the center and taking walks, there are many streets with lots of slopes and as it is a historic city, it maintains the original asphalting which is a bit damaging to the car and the ups and downs are difficult. very steep.

The Museu da Inconfidência is a well-preserved former jail in Ouro Preto that serves as a museum dedicated to the casualties of a failed rebellion against Portugal in 1789. The building showcases excellent examples of civil colonial architecture, with pale stone walls and arched windows set against a painted white facade. This historical museum pays tribute to those who lost their lives during the unsuccessful revolution that fought for independence from Portugal.
Highly recommend. Compelling story-telling about early colonial and revolution history. Signs have English translations which are a bit archaic, and hard to understand, but give a basic story.

Audio guides weren't available, which probably made it a lot less enjoyable. Translations are in Portuguese and English, but the English doesn't provide much context and it's difficult to follow the history of the conspiracy or the story of the Vila Rica. Staff were very helpful, however, and lots of security. No photos allowed!

This place holds some of the most important documents of the Brazilian history.
It always keeps the bodies of the first men to think about an independent Brasil: there's a small Pantheon inside the museum.
It's important to understand that the episode remembered by this museum happened pretty much in line with the US independence and the french revolution and the industrial revolution. Minas Gerais was already economically and politically linked to the world by 1750+.

The Basilica Nossa Senhora do Pilar is a revered Catholic church located in the historical center of Ouro Preto. Constructed in the late 17th century, the church underwent reconstruction in 1731 to give it a more durable structure, and is now regarded as one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in the region. Inside, visitors can marvel at hundreds of kilos of gold and silver decorations, alongside hand-carved religious artifacts.

The Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos in Congonhas do Campo, Brazil is a Rococo-style church built in the 18th century. It is famous for its soapstone carvings and wood sculptures by renowned sculptor Aleijadinho. It is famous for its soapstone carvings and wood sculptures by renowned sculptor Aleijadinho. The sanctuary consists of a church with an exquisite Italian-inspired Rococo interior, an outdoor stairway adorned with statues of prophets, and seven chapels depicting the Stations of the Cross.
Here is the world heritage was registered in 1985.
If you transfer between Belo Horizonte and Ouro Preto, you can stop here easily.
There are beautiful sculptures made by Aleijadinho.
Inside church is also beautiful space.
There is a vivid altar.
We went there on Friday afternoon, there were few people.
It was calm and silent place to feel Baroque art.

This sanctuary in Minais Gerais, south of Belo Horizonte was built in the second half of the 18th century. It consists of a church with a magnificent Rococo interior of Italian inspiration; an outdoor stairway decorated with statues of the prophets; and seven chapels illustrating the Stations of the Cross, in which the polychrome sculptures by Aleijadinho are masterpieces of a highly original, moving, expressive form of Baroque art.

Fountain of St. Joseph, also known as Chafariz de Sao Jose, is a historic site built in 1749 that served as a crucial stop for travelers to replenish their canteens and water their animals. Despite its slightly worn appearance, the fountain exudes an air of tranquility with its surrounding greenery, making it an ideal spot for picnics or seeking respite from the heat.
Very cool historic fountain. It was very unusual because it is in someone's front yard. The home located behind the fountain is privately owned. it was a little disappointing to see only two of the three heads of the fountain working at the time we visited. Hopefully the caretaker has plans to restore this historic Monument.

(Translated by Google) It's a small museum that was built where an old prison was, you can see a space where there was a solitary confinement (you can't see it very well, because the glass is a little foggy). Now the museum itself is for images of Mary's mother, so it ends up being very specific. I think it's worth a visit, as they are old pieces and it's cool as a historical record, but if you're not that interested in the topic, it's not that fun.

The stunning church named after Tiradentes' patron saint, Igreja de Santo Antonio, is a remarkable work of Aleijadinho and one of his final designs. The interior is resplendent with Old Testament allusions and features notable objects like the polychrome organ brought from Portugal in 1798 by donkey and the seven golden phoenixes that suspend candleholders with braided chains. The sundial at the entrance dates back to 1785.

The Jardim do Nego in Campo do Coelho, Nova Friburgo, is a unique attraction known for its colossal clay sculptures adorned with moss. The garden, crafted by artist Geraldo Simplicio (aka Nego), showcases his 30-year hermitage in the area. Inspired by the natural landscape, Nego utilizes moss to create an otherworldly yet grounded ambiance for each sculpture.

Gigantic clay sculptures covered in moss make Jardim do Nêgo in Campo do Coelho, a district of Nova Friburgo, a special place to visit. The unusual garden was created by artist Geraldo Simplício—a.k.a “Nêgo”—who lived as a hermit in the place for over 30 years.
Nêgo uses the landscape’s natural formations as the inspiration and foundation for his work. He covers the clay with moss, giving each sculpture an otherworldy yet earthy vibe.
The garden is a small, peaceful spot packed with larger-than-life works of art. There are currently 17 sculptures scattered throughout the place. Nêgo himself is typically present to greet visitors and chat about his work.

I hiked from Petropolis to Teresopolis and it was one of the most technically difficult hikes I've done. There is this one part called the "little horse" where the only way to continue is to take your backpack off, grab the rock, swing your leg over the rock, and use your momentum to hoist your body on and over this large rock. Did I mention that this all takes place on cliff where if you fall you die? Yep!
It was worth it and so incredibly beautiful but the trail is no joke! Doable if you do it in 2-3 days (carrying your camping gear) but a lot of altitude! I have hiked 36km/day in the snow, and found this hike to be a challenge physically and mentally.

(Translated by Google) Extremely disappointed with this guesthouse that promises everything and delivers nothing. The place is beautiful, it has everything to be perfect but it lacks essential details. In addition to not having parking, I paid for a room with a view and air conditioning, when I got there the air conditioning didn't work. After checking more than 5 rooms I decided to stay in one that was not clean. I waited for more than an hour for the room to be ready. Then the room key didn't work, it wouldn't lock. I went out at night and when I returned there was no control over the air or the TV in the room anymore. I had to wait another hour for the doorman to resolve it (this was at 3 am). I bought a room with a double bed, they put two beds of different density together, we slept very poorly. Breakfast is very poor and they do not provide shampoo and conditioner. It's not worth the price. The staff are polite but the quality of the service makes us not want to come back. A feather. I do not recommend.

Brazil's oldest brewery was founded by German immigrants in the mountainous summer getaway of Petrópolis in 1853. It was once the preferred beer of the Portuguese royal family. While mass production shifted to São Paulo in 1998, Bohemia reopened its original location in 2012 as a specialty brewery museum, bar, and restaurant. Reasonably interesting, but could do better in telling the story of the royal family and the house. Nice set up but needs context. Recommended but could be outstanding with a bit of polish.

A nice and beautiful view to the history of Brazil. The museum could have a bit more information in English, not all the stories/info signs were translated.

Beautiful museum with detailed information about the Brazilian Royal family. Unfortunately, you cannot take pictures or videos inside except for the carriage room.

Wonderful museum. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Plenty of history all over, definitely a graceful piece of the Brazilian history.

Museum in Petropolis built during the reign of the last Brazilian emperor Pedro II. Fascinating insight to the imperial family of Brazil, lots of paintings of the emperor, empress and their two daughters. Anyone interested in the 19th century history of Brazil should find this enjoyable. It is worth doing some research on Internet beforehand. My doing so made it more interesting for me. It is not possible to take photos inside. Part of a day trip to Petroplois from Rio de Janiero.

Some great history! No photography is allowed inside, you have to ware slip on shoes over your shoes to walk inside. It’s a smaller museum and doesn’t take much time to see everything. Towards the end there’s a small gift shop with reasonably prices things to buy( Jewlery, souvenirs and such)
Theres bag checks where you buy tickets because there’s no bags allowed inside.

Great museum, it is sad that you cannot take pictures inside. They give you these funny shoe covers which are nice. The gift shop crazy expensive 😂. Really! A magnet costs 45 reals.

It is worth visiting. Tickets R$ 10,00 full price and R$ 5,00 for students, teachers and elderly. They only accept cash.
The place is beautiful and very well preserved

Hello sudits,This is our emperors museum. It used to host and cool our Brazillian nobility long time ago.Summer down there in RIO,Brazil is extremely hot with it´s beaches. So,the emperor decided to build this castle for them to shelter while summer very high on the hills, with freezing temperature in the winter and only one hour driving from Rio,their oficial residences and palaces.
The whole Petrópolis town developed by their residences and castle. Was built sanctuaries, and many more castles and architectures for the other members of the emperors family.
It worths your visit,we normally visited there at weekends, always having lots of fun with the requirements and free time of our emperor back them like libraries, european architecture, many castles for his family and made Brazillian economy run from there,at his summer coolness and rest.
Today,Petrópolis is a touristic town, all run by this sector of our economy. It´s obeyed for the kids and schools visiting and knowing our past and history. All in Petrópolis have this mood of tourism and visiting. There are many enterprises and economies but somehow they are part of visits and guides and all at beer factories, clothes tradition and even the farms are second place for our emperors palace and city built for his cool summers here at the tropics.
The principal attractions are for sure the huge nobility that owned this country centuries ago, their huge castles, diamond crowns and all the nobility and most cultured workers following the emperor at his summer and coolness.
Quitandinha is one example of respect and necessaire our emperors culture and economy. Is a huge hotel, just like a castle, but built much later following his patterns and today hosting a museum just by the city entrance and showing much different the Rio with this huge construction never seen from many visitors.
I think one week is enough for you to know all,see the many hotels built for this ancient history and be in the past with queens, kings, princes and all the royal family at that epoque.
Good visit!

Casa de Santos Dumont, once the residence of Alberto Santos-Dumont, a renowned Brazilian aviator and inventor, has now been converted into a museum dedicated to preserving his pioneering work in aviation. This heritage museum showcases his significant contributions to the field and serves as a testament to his historical significance. The house, which was specifically designed by Dumont himself, provides visitors with an immersive experience by featuring replicas of his inventions and exhibits that highlight his life and achievements.
Beautiful place with beautiful history!

Rather disappointing, considering the recognized importance of the man.
There is a lot of material in archives that document his achievements.
There is precious little that found its way into this museum.
One leaves hungry for what could have been shown.

Historic place which deserves a visit in order to get better acquainted with Alberto Santos Dumont and his inventions and some details about him.

Nice quick historical visit. Very unique and true story, the first registered flight without wind help or catapult. The real inventor of the first airplane!

Unfortunately, not even half the information in the exhibition are translated into English. Also we didn’t find any film like it’s suggested in other comments. All in all, I’d say that it’s not really worth it if you don’t understand Portuguese very well. Which would be okay, but since the prices and basic information at the entrance are written in English, you’d expect otherwise. House is cute and if you’d like to know how it looks from the inside, it may be worth a visit. If you (again from an English speaking perspective) want to learn about Santos Dumont, you might be better off reading Wikipedia.

I went on his birthday and it was very busy, however it was great to learn more about the type of person he was and his lovely house.

The House of Santos Dumont is a great place to visit. I got surprised when I saw how simple he lived behind the big intelligence he had. The history of this great person brings pride of such human and the benefits he brought to the humandade.

Beautiful site with a rich history and gorgeous scale replicas of Santos' creations, and the original house designed by Santos Dumont himself. The entrance fee is decent, and they offer a video (with English subtitles) that tells the true story of Mr. Dumont. This is a must-visit site for fans of aviation history. Keep in mind the stairs are steep (which is part of the original history of the house), but there is an elevator available for people who have difficulty.

Historic place, charges $8 Reais for entry, coming from the US didn't know much about Santos Dumont, interesting aviator scientist

It is a super small museum, it takes you probably 30 Minutes to see everything. It is very interesting if you are a fan of history and specially the history of the planes. The only downside is that the infrastructure there is quite bad. And it is super small, so if you go on a busy day, it will be impossible to go in.

Picturesque natural area featuring a storied finger-shaped rock formation & striking views.
This place is really incredible. The name God's fingers is because it looks like the hands of come are getting out of the ground and pointing up the sky. It is amazing, surrounded by the Atlantic forest, with lots of waterfalls and wildlife. for the ones who like natural beauties, it is worthy every minute.

The Quitandinha Palace, a grand and historically significant building in picturesque surroundings, was originally a lavish resort. Constructed in the Norman French style between 1941 and 1946, it served as a hotel that welcomed renowned figures like Carmen Miranda and Walt Disney. Today, it functions as both a cultural center and popular tourist destination. Open to the public, visitors can explore its interiors or appreciate its splendid facade while relaxing on the well-maintained lawns.
A fascinating castle/hotel. You'll see big rooms, big chandeliers, comfortable sofas and things like that. Don't miss it.

Pay and do the guide visit because there are much more history about that the plates in front of each room/place. The value of the guide visit is valid. reserve 2 hours
