Fantastic church from eighteenth century. The art pieces are unique. Too bad the conservation is a little slower and might lose some artifacts in a few years if nothing changes.

The Pirâmide São Tomé das Letras, located in Sao Thome das Letras, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, offers stunning panoramic views of mountains, valleys, and sunsets. The simple stone hut with a pyramidal roof provides a vantage point to capture beautiful landscapes and meet friendly people from different countries. The town itself is an attractive old stone masonry town with fascinating slate streets to explore on foot.
The "Pyramid" itself is not worth noting, but the location, with a 360° view of all this region of southern Minas Gerais is breathtaking, and the sunset is an spectacle on its own.
Fabio Trevisan — Google review
Beautiful old stone masonry town. Many interesting places to see while walking all the slate streets. The roads are very bouncy, so rather park your car and see the towm on foot.

First come first. So if you don't get there at a reasonable time to get a good place to sit, you still won't be disappointed. Out of this world beautiful.
A great place to feel closer to Mother Nature. The paths surrounded by tall trees, the mineral water fountains built with an old classic look, the sound of birds, the wind in the trees, and many, many cicadas. I'm born in Caxambu, and live here for almost all my life, and the Water park is like a sanctuary for me, where I feel safe and sound. Last week was my first time swimming in the pool and it couldn't be more fun and pleasing! There's so many good things I could talk about the Park, but just being in a place like this is an experience I can not find words to describe. You'll must feel it yourself.
Paulo José Oliveira Amaro — Google review

Amazing place, specially the main waterfall that is really breathtaking - not only because of the gorgeous landscape: the water is cold!
It was crowded, but it was expected to be so considering it is Carnival holiday and that the place is easy to be accessed.

One of the best waterfalls in Carrancas, also one of the most famous, what makes the place be always busy, you have to be very lucky to get it empty. Best time to visit is at midway, because the sun will shine in the middle of the cliffs and direct in the water, and you will understand why the place is called Emerald.

Carrancas is a Brazilian municipality located in the south of the state of Minas Gerais. The city belongs to the mesoregion of Campo das Vertentes and to the microregion of Lavras. In 2020 the population was 4,049 in a total area of 728 km². Wikipedia.
Itatiaia National Park is the oldest national park in Brazil, boasting a diverse array of landscapes ranging from dense rainforests to rugged peaks. The lower section of the park is easily accessible and offers visitors numerous short trails that lead to breathtaking waterfalls and natural swimming holes. Meanwhile, serious hikers and climbers can explore the remote high country via an unpaved road. The park is also home to abundant flora and fauna, such as orchids, monkeys, and tropical birds.
Wonderful national park at Itataia. It's possible to visit the park on foot, bike or by car. Visitors entering the park by car must pay an extra fee (around R$ 24,00) to take it's paved and non paved roads on a motored vehicle. The activities available at the park for visitors range from a beautiful cultural centre with many historical highlights, track trails in a rich forest terrain, magnificent waterfalls to admire and freshen up, numerous bird watching spots, and exuberant viewpoints of the Mantiqueira Mountain and it's wildlife. The difficulty of tracks may vary a lot. Upon entry on the park, visitors are given a detailed map, which shows what's possible to do whilst visiting the site. The park is basically divided into a lower and an upper part. The most demanding tracks, which are also those that one needs to plan in advance, are located in the upper part of park. In those areas, it's possible to camp on designated areas or stay for the night at one of the park's lodging houses (reservation in advance needed). In the park's website, there are lots of information for visitors, and high definition pdf maps for downloading, as well as a list of well trained guides on the park whenever the need arises. It's not possible to park in any spot by the road, the permitted parking areas will be sign posted. All around the park, it's possible to see restaurants, hotels and other private properties, which means there's no time available to do everything you'll find at the park. It's a highly recommended visit, and a place not to forget.
Mariana Azevedo Moraes — Google review
Beautiful scenary. Amazing waterfalls which have pools to swim surrounded by lush tropical forests. A national park unlike sny other in the world.
Marco Defreitas — Google review
It's a decent park, but beware that the upper portion of the park is almost impossible to get up with a regular car. You DEFINITELY need a high-clearance vehicle like an SUV or 4x4 to do it, or a motorcycle.
I tried to ask the staff about this beforehand and they were unhelpful and didn't even know about this.
Jason — Google review
Always when I visit this place I get impressed. There are wonderful views from everywhere. During my last visit I took the trail called Rancho Caído, which was amazing!
FERNANDO RIBEIRO — Google review
A completely different environment if you use the north west entrance. Warning the 12km road can be very bad. Warning 2: Arrive early the last entrance is around 2pm. You must leave the park by 5pm. This may change during they year so it is best to chemo in advance.

(Translated by Google) Easily accessible. It has a part that for those who don't know how to swim it is possible to bathe safely. I thought it was really cool that the environmental police put up a flag to identify whether the waters are calm or not. I went in Sep/2021, there is no access fee and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. As I don't know how to swim I was afraid to go down the drain. So I stayed in the quieter parts. I highly recommend.

Super recomendo.

(Translated by Google) It is advisable to arrive early to be able to park your car and get a good table in the nearby restaurants, as it is the most popular attraction in the region. There is also some trade in the region. It is possible to swim, as there is a good water slide. The walk to the waterfall is not difficult and still allows you to calmly appreciate the beauty of the region.
(Original)

(Translated by Google) The place is very beautiful, who wants to take a risk with the temperature of the water (very cold) can take advantage of the "slide". There is a community around the waterfall that provides parking infrastructure, bar, restaurant, inn, souvenir shops, etc. From Vila de Maringá to Vila de Maromba the road is dirt but wide, after that the path becomes narrow in several points, only one car can pass at a time. But if it hasn't rained too much, you can use a car.
(Original)

(Translated by Google) Good waterfall. Despite being the most famous Viscount of Mauá, it wasn't my favorite. It gets very crowded there as it is very famous and touristy. If you are looking for a more peaceful environment, I recommend the Santa Clara waterfall, it is relatively close by and offers much more calm.

Boa cachoeira.

Great structure around
Restaurant, bars and other shops very close by
The waterfall got its name because it is possible to slide down it.
Not very recommended for young children

The day we went, the street was blocked, forcing you to pay for parking.

Cachoeira linda

(Translated by Google) I went during the week, on a Wednesday and loved that it was empty. It's a charming place with very good infrastructure around it. There is parking very close to the waterfall that costs R$20.00 with free time. The village is the most beautiful thing, each little house more beautiful than the other and with a variety of restaurants, inns and shops.
Note: The access that leads to the slide was closed for management and maintenance of the path.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful and great place to enjoy a sunny day in the region. The waterfall has an excellent swimming pool, as well as, of course, its natural slide, which is a lot of fun.
I don't give it 5 stars because, in sunny FDS, it tends to be very crowded, making the trip to the location exhausting due to the intense traffic resulting from the narrow roads, which have no parking space and private parking lots are relatively expensive.
(Original)

It is a natural park in Minas Gerais state. The park is wonderful, full of sedimentary rocks and natural vegetation, some streams and caves. You can trail everywhere there and have fun in contact with nature. I also recommend going to "janela do céu" (window of the sky), which is a very long walking trail. It is tiring, but worth the visit. About the park itself, I do recommend it.

beautiful, enchanting national park well worth visiting and well preserved and clean. the perfect photo at the " sky window" desperately needs better organization and restrictions with supervision and I feel that there are other places in the park that are even more beautiful. I'll never travel to Petropolis without this trip planner again
Mirante do Morro do Imperador is a hilltop location renowned for its Christ the Redeemer monument and a plaza that offers picturesque vistas of Juiz de Fora. Positioned at one of the highest points in the city, it grants visitors an exquisite panoramic outlook. This sought-after spot attracts nature enthusiasts who relish engaging in physical activities like hiking along the numerous tracks available. The awe-inspiring view of downtown Juiz de Fora from this vantage point is truly remarkable.
The view of downtown Juiz de Fora from this place is breathtaking. There's a snack bar and a souvenir shop up there. Sometimes you can find only one person to assist you. But it's ok. The view makes it worth it. On weekends, there are more prople to assist at the shops.

I'll never travel to Petropolis without this trip planner again
Pousada Crystal Palace, a charming bed and breakfast, is situated in a Portuguese Colonial-style residence. It offers understated accommodations with a warm dining area, a garden, and a front veranda. Originally established in 1884 at the behest of the Count d'Eu and Princess Isabelle, this exquisite greenhouse was designed to showcase local flora, fauna, and avian species.
The place was cool, the staff were all very nice and it was a safe place to stay. The breakfast every morning was super delicious and had just about everything you can get for a breakfast. Would definitely return.
Eric Anastasio — Google review
The hotel is good. The service and the breakfast are good. The room smell like something that didn't dry very well. The location is very close to the city center.

Nice and simple stay. It was our second time there and everything ran as smooth as the first visit. The location or perfect for those who want to stay at walking distance from the sightseeing places of Petrópolis. The closest place is Crystal Palace, less than a minute walking. Or you can walk about 7 minutes to the Imperial Museum. The continental breakfast is simple but have everything you may need for a morning of walking. The rooms are simple but cozy. If you're traveling in the summer I would recommend one with AC. The restroom has a nice and strong shower. Nood to relax.

(Translated by Google) Extremely disappointed with this guesthouse that promises everything and delivers nothing. The place is beautiful, it has everything to be perfect but it lacks essential details. In addition to not having parking, I paid for a room with a view and air conditioning, when I got there the air conditioning didn't work. After checking more than 5 rooms I decided to stay in one that was not clean. I waited for more than an hour for the room to be ready. Then the room key didn't work, it wouldn't lock. I went out at night and when I returned there was no control over the air or the TV in the room anymore. I had to wait another hour for the doorman to resolve it (this was at 3 am). I bought a room with a double bed, they put two beds of different density together, we slept very poorly. Breakfast is very poor and they do not provide shampoo and conditioner. It's not worth the price. The staff are polite but the quality of the service makes us not want to come back. A feather. I do not recommend.

Complexo Bohemia is a must-visit destination in Brazil, offering an incredible experience for beer enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The complex houses the renowned Bohemia Brewery, a national heritage site built in neoclassical style in 1853. Visitors can explore the fascinating museum of beer, which showcases the rich history of brewing in Brazil. Hugely enjoyable museum of the history of beer in Brazil. I honestly didn’t expect it to be so fascinating! The tour includes 3 different Bohemia beers and the restaurant serves good food with many Chopps (beer on tap). Well worth a visit

Casa de Santos Dumont, once the residence of Alberto Santos-Dumont, a renowned Brazilian aviator and inventor, has now been converted into a museum dedicated to preserving his pioneering work in aviation. This heritage museum showcases his significant contributions to the field and serves as a testament to his historical significance. The house, which was specifically designed by Dumont himself, provides visitors with an immersive experience by featuring replicas of his inventions and exhibits that highlight his life and achievements.
Beautiful place with beautiful history!
Brandon Hainline — Google review
Rather disappointing, considering the recognized importance of the man.
There is a lot of material in archives that document his achievements.
There is precious little that found its way into this museum.
One leaves hungry for what could have been shown.

Unfortunately, not even half the information in the exhibition are translated into English. Also we didn’t find any film like it’s suggested in other comments. All in all, I’d say that it’s not really worth it if you don’t understand Portuguese very well. Which would be okay, but since the prices and basic information at the entrance are written in English, you’d expect otherwise. House is cute and if you’d like to know how it looks from the inside, it may be worth a visit. If you (again from an English speaking perspective) want to learn about Santos Dumont, you might be better off reading Wikipedia.

The House of Santos Dumont is a great place to visit. I got surprised when I saw how simple he lived behind the big intelligence he had. The history of this great person brings pride of such human and the benefits he brought to the humandade.
Fabio Mac — Google review
Beautiful site with a rich history and gorgeous scale replicas of Santos' creations, and the original house designed by Santos Dumont himself. The entrance fee is decent, and they offer a video (with English subtitles) that tells the true story of Mr. Dumont. This is a must-visit site for fans of aviation history. Keep in mind the stairs are steep (which is part of the original history of the house), but there is an elevator available for people who have difficulty.

It is a super small museum, it takes you probably 30 Minutes to see everything. It is very interesting if you are a fan of history and specially the history of the planes. The only downside is that the infrastructure there is quite bad. And it is super small, so if you go on a busy day, it will be impossible to go in.

Cathedral in Petropolis. After their exile to and death in Europe, the remains of the last Brazilian emperor Pedro II and his wife were laid to rest here in marble tombs. His surviving daughter and her French husband are also entombed here. Of interest to those interested in 19th century imperial history of Brazil.

Housed in the grand palace built in 1845 by Brazil's first emperor, the Imperial Museum offers a comprehensive documentation of Brazil's rich history. Located in Petropolis, a city renowned for its remarkable architectural ensemble including landmarks like Palacio Quitandinha and Academia Petropolitana de Letras, the museum stands as the centerpiece of this historic district. It showcases exhibits that delve into Brazil's imperial past, showcasing artifacts and narratives that shed light on significant events and personalities.

Museum in Petropolis built during the reign of the last Brazilian emperor Pedro II. Fascinating insight to the imperial family of Brazil, lots of paintings of the emperor, empress and their two daughters. Anyone interested in the 19th century history of Brazil should find this enjoyable. It is worth doing some research on Internet beforehand. My doing so made it more interesting for me. Some great history! No photography is allowed inside, you have to ware slip on shoes over your shoes to walk inside. It’s a smaller museum and doesn’t take much time to see everything. Towards the end there’s a small gift shop with reasonably prices things to buy( Jewlery, souvenirs and such)
Theres bag checks where you buy tickets because there’s no bags allowed inside.

Hello sudits,This is our emperors museum. It used to host and cool our Brazillian nobility long time ago.Summer down there in RIO,Brazil is extremely hot with it´s beaches. So,the emperor decided to build this castle for them to shelter while summer very high on the hills, with freezing temperature in the winter and only one hour driving from Rio,their oficial residences and palaces.
The whole Petrópolis town developed by their residences and castle. Was built sanctuaries, and many more castles and architectures for the other members of the emperors family.
It worths your visit,we normally visited there at weekends, always having lots of fun with the requirements and free time of our emperor back them like libraries, european architecture, many castles for his family and made Brazillian economy run from there,at his summer coolness and rest.
Today,Petrópolis is a touristic town, all run by this sector of our economy. It´s obeyed for the kids and schools visiting and knowing our past and history. All in Petrópolis have this mood of tourism and visiting. There are many enterprises and economies but somehow they are part of visits and guides and all at beer factories, clothes tradition and even the farms are second place for our emperors palace and city built for his cool summers here at the tropics.
The principal attractions are for sure the huge nobility that owned this country centuries ago, their huge castles, diamond crowns and all the nobility and most cultured workers following the emperor at his summer and coolness.
Quitandinha is one example of respect and necessaire our emperors culture and economy. Is a huge hotel, just like a castle, but built much later following his patterns and today hosting a museum just by the city entrance and showing much different the Rio with this huge construction never seen from many visitors.
I think one week is enough for you to know all,see the many hotels built for this ancient history and be in the past with queens, kings, princes and all the royal family at that epoque.
Good visit!

I hiked from Petropolis to Teresopolis and it was one of the most technically difficult hikes I've done. There is this one part called the "little horse" where the only way to continue is to take your backpack off, grab the rock, swing your leg over the rock, and use your momentum to hoist your body on and over this large rock. Did I mention that this all takes place on cliff where if you fall you die? Yep!
It was worth it and so incredibly beautiful but the trail is no joke! Doable if you do it in 2-3 days (carrying your camping gear) but a lot of altitude! I have hiked 36km/day in the snow, and found this hike to be a challenge physically and mentally.

But I was rudely approached by a man who works or is responsible for the place, when I was talking to one of the dogs. According to him, the dog was violent. So I ask: if the space has commercial purposes and is open to visitors, why does it keep violent dogs free? Why are there no signs informing us that animals can be violent if we get too close? Senseless, clueless and completely irresponsible. It appears that the visitor/consumer is the one at fault. If you have children or are afraid of animals - don't go! It's not even that interesting, much less the values. I will not return nor recommend the place.

The Jardim do Nego in Campo do Coelho, Nova Friburgo, is a unique attraction known for its colossal clay sculptures adorned with moss. The garden, crafted by artist Geraldo Simplicio (aka Nego), showcases his 30-year hermitage in the area. Inspired by the natural landscape, Nego utilizes moss to create an otherworldly yet grounded ambiance for each sculpture.
Beautiful and very interesting , hard work of my friend NEGO , and his meditation process for life .

Gigantic clay sculptures covered in moss make Jardim do Nêgo in Campo do Coelho, a district of Nova Friburgo, a special place to visit. The unusual garden was created by artist Geraldo Simplício—a.k.a “Nêgo”—who lived as a hermit in the place for over 30 years.
Nêgo uses the landscape’s natural formations as the inspiration and foundation for his work. He covers the clay with moss, giving each sculpture an otherworldy yet earthy vibe.
The garden is a small, peaceful spot packed with larger-than-life works of art. There are currently 17 sculptures scattered throughout the place. Nêgo himself is typically present to greet visitors and chat about his work.
