Learn about the history of Shoin - one of the founders of Japan.
Yoshida Shoin led a wonderfully romantic life as a.teacher and traveler, and his students included some of modern Japan's Meiji creators, men who weren't afraid to take action during life and death times.

Very good place to understand the history of Japanese modernization.
A place with lots of Scenic Beauty.
We visited during Autumn season and enjoyed the color of Nature. There is a Museum named Mori Museum but having shortage of time we just visited the garden only.
Entry Fee:
Mori Garden: 400 yen
Mori Museum: 1000 Yen
But if you bye both it will cost for 1200 Yen.
A very beautiful place to visit at Hofu City.

We had one hour to go around the huge house so our visit was brief. But it was interesting to see the lord's residence. A lot of history but puzzled there was no English guidebook or information. If printing on paper is not eco, perhaps they can resort to e-book information attached to the house.

One of the best gardens in Yamaguchi. I’ll take this over Shukkeien in Hiroshima any day. Large sprawling grounds with massive tōrō (stone lanterns) and scenic paths that are great for exploring. Every scene is impressive. Parking is a short distance from the entrance and well marked with vending machines and a bathroom. Don’t park in the gravel next to the first gate as that’s a buss turn-around easement. The entrance to the garden is through the first gate and a short uphill walk on the path to the right.

Hofu Tenmangu Shrine, the first Shinto shrine in Japan, is renowned for its seasonal plum blossoms and traditional festivals. Visitors often come to pray for academic success and good luck in exams. The shrine boasts a beautiful park at the back and during cherry blossom season, it offers stunning views of the blossoms. A popular attraction is the Shunpuro hall which translates to "hall of spring breeze." This hall is believed to offer feelings of spring breeze throughout the year.
A very old and famous shrine at Hofu. We visited at dusk. Recommend to visit before sunset.
The music comes from shrine was awesome. There are a lots of cherry trees around the shrine.
The flower was so nice to see. We also enjoyed the night view of Hofu City by visiting the upper part of the Shrine.
A lot of well wisher comes here.

I have heard that people come here to pray for their academics and exams. I went during cherry blossom season. It was beautiful. There is a park behind the shrine. Got a lot of cherry blossom pics . Got myself a shrine stamp. There is hall called Shunpuro which means hall of the spring breeze. It is believed that feels of spring breeze can be felt throughout the year.

The main reason why we came to Hofu. It is a beautiful shrine overlooking Hofu City. There are parking lots near and above the entrance, so you can easily find a parking spot. The Front entrance of the Shrine is filled with shops and restaurants. The top also has vendors with finger foods.
The view from the front of the torii gate at the foot of the mountain was amazing. I imagine that nighttime would be a beautiful site with lanterns lit up. There were few people and it was quiet and a beautiful shrine.
The scenery from the top of the stairway and the 800-year-old Shinboku is a masterpiece and powerful. Our kids loved it too.

The Ruriko-ji Five Story Pagoda is a serene and picturesque Buddhist temple located in a landscaped park. This popular spot offers breathtaking views of cherry blossoms and fall foliage. Visitors can explore the pagoda and temple, both of which are free to enter. There is also a peaceful koi fish and turtle pond on the premises. However, visitors must take care to be respectful as there is also a cemetery onsite.
No matter how many times I visit, this pagoda takes my breath away!
It’s so pretty throughout the year. There are plum blossom trees, cherry blossom trees, and hydrangea on the grounds for people to enjoy. It’s also nice place to enjoy fall foliage.
There are usually some volunteer guides on the grounds also. They are so nice and helpful.
Lots of parking available, but they do get very busy during certain times of the year if you go on the weekend.
If you’re hungry while you are here, there is a cafe that serves the roof tile noodles nearby. It’s next to the large gift shop that is located next to the parking lot.
The grounds are wheelchair and stroller friendly.
There is no fee to enter and view the pagoda.

Benjamin Yau — Google review
Go up around the Back! This is a beautiful pagoda that creates in its viewers a little bit of a Zen (or if you prefer, God's glory) experience. Why is this? Why do visitors say that it takes their breath away. My interpretation is that it looks like a lot of houses or temples stacked one on top of another. We are used to seeing the temple roof shape of each story of the pagoda. In the grounds of the temple there are similar roofs, of other similar temple structures but these are arranged horizontally with at most a slight vertical misalignment due to the temple structures and their roofs being built on a slope, which with the admixture of perspective, allows us to see when we view a temple complex or townscape a cascade of roofs stretching off into the distance. And so it is when we view this pagoda our brains attempt to interpret its form in the same familiar way, as smaller and smaller, more distant roofs, on the side of the mountain, but then, whammy, it is not perspective, it is not a slope, these roofs are stacked. And in that whattheblazes moment of reappraisal, our analytical mind is stumped, stopped and dumbfounded, and we are given a glimpse of that which a Zen scholar calls "the purity of experience" or perhaps, in Christian parlance, we see the light. In any event it is a very beautiful pagoda. It contains a library of books that no one reads. And those in the know can go up around the back to stand at eye level with the middle of the pagoda and look down upon the temple sharing the same grounds. Please see the photo. 案内すると感心してもらえますよ。

Akiyoshidai is a stunning karst landscape in Japan, featuring rocky outcrops, a cave system, and an underground river. Visitors can take a scenic drive through this ancient seabed area or opt for a guided tour to explore the caves and wildlife safari. The area is also known for its annual summer grass burning event, where thousands of people carry torches and ignite the grass with fireworks.
Today is the Japanese public holiday. I rushed for coming here from Tokyo. It was so big to have a trip by walk in a day. But I was satisfied because I could watch the biggest Karst area in Japan.
This area is connected with Akiyoshi Cave too.

We paid a taxi driver to take us from our hotel in Yamaguchi city to Hagi city, but along the way we visited Akiyoshido (caves), and Akiyoshidai (ancient Karst seabeds). The grasses are burned in Summer by a 1000 people or more carrying torches and started from a fireworks blast!

Akiyoshido Cave in Japan is a stunning cave complex filled with limestone stalactites and stalagmites. The caverns are illuminated, creating beautiful spot points that showcase the different forms of limestone. While the lighting is not perfect in all areas and caution should be taken on slippery surfaces, it remains a great memory. This experience can be refreshing and therapeutic, making it an ideal spot to clear one's head or find inspiration.
A huge and beautiful cave complex. The nearby shops are a bit faded and worn but have retro appeal.

Lots of interesting stones to see.
Easy access plus English explanation by a machines at the famous spots.

Lots of parking space.

A very impressive cave that is well worth the visit. Has many interesting rock formations and audio guides in various languages. It can be quite wet, so make sure to bring suitable footwear.
Benj W — Google review
Highly recommended for summer time because the temperature is pretty low inside the cave. Hanging out with Ojisan gang so they would never do the 冒険road challenge which will cost 300 yen per person. After around inside the cave we went back to car and drove to enjoy the whole scene of Akiyoshidai. They have hiking events but I wouldn’t walk to death on that 10km long platform. Everything was great and beautiful but since we got there on Golden Week, restaurants were all closed so couldn’t eat Mine city’s specialty Kawara Soba
Facts, few days later on the news that a death man discovered after a week 🥲

The Motonosumi Inari Shrine is a Shinto shrine that can be accessed by following a winding path along the cliff. The path leading to the shrine is adorned with 123 bright red gates, also known as torii gates. These gates serve as an impressive sight for visitors who pass through them in order to reach the remote and sacred site of worship. The shrine itself stands out against the natural landscape, inviting visitors to explore its history and spirituality.
This place was impressive, and the views from here are beautiful. Be advised that if it rains you’ll be walking in mud, so prepare for that. Other than navigating the mud it was an awesome experience and we were able to cross this one out from our bucket list. A must visit while in the area.

This shrine is just for the instagram photo lol The shrine that has little historic value and functions mostly as a tourist attraction I guess. It’s located in a remote area with no public transportation. To be honest this shrine really isn’t worth a visit unless you really really need the insta pic or your doing a road trip and it’s just one of your rest stops.
Daniel Dizzy — Google review
After you pass the 123 red gates you can go up and try your luck by throwing coin into a small box hanging quite high. If you make it then you can make a wish.
It was under construction when we visited Motonosumi. A pleasant experience.

There is no public transport to get there, you have to drive yourself.
There is a parking fee.
There are many eagles in the sky.
But there are no safety measures on the seaside cliff, it is dangerous to come down, I hope the scenic spot at least add a security fence.
YUHAN MA (游馬 襪) — Google review
A striking photo location for instagram but a shrine that has little historic value and functions mostly as a tourist attraction. It’s located in a remote area with no public transportation. Access is really only practical by car, taxi, or tour bus. For Japanese it’s a road trip destination and the parking lots fill up. My guess is this was created and spruced up to attract visitors to this region which has little else to offer visitors and is well off the beaten path. Nagato and Hagi are not the most attractive places to visit and inconvenient compared to the cities on the Pacific coast. This shrine really isn’t worth a visit unless you really really need the insta pic. Go to Matsuyama instead.

It's a popular attraction, but it was built in the 1950s so it feels like more of a Disney version of a Japanese shrine, and has little of the atmosphere of the many ancient shrines in Japan. The rocky coastline is attractive.

The stunning rolling tori on the northern tip of Yamaguchi. Glorious views of the 123 red gates flowing across the landscape, with the ocean sitting peacefully behind. Gets very busy on nice days, with the traffic queue for car parking tedious.

The scenery is breathtaking...
If not for the cold weather we would loved to spend more time there.
There's also a small stall selling hot coffee and do take note of the closing time.
I think it's 4:30pm if I recall correctly.

Motonosumi Inari Shrine is not to be missed by anyone who is planning a trip to visit Fukuoka or the city nearby. The spectacular shrine is located approximately 3 hour's drive from Fukuoka. There is no public transport available in order to travel to the Shrine location. The only option is to drive or follow a day tour.
The Shrine is located on a cliff overlooking the beautiful sea and blue sky. The 123 Tori gates will lead you to a breathtaking view of the place. The steps through the Tori gates are not difficult to climb but perhaps not recommended for the elderly.

In love with this shrine. The water is absolutely beautiful and it was a fantastic view. This was a great time of year to do this shrine as it was cool getting the breeze off the water but not too cold.

Beautiful and majestic views. The wind was very strong when I visited so the waves were crashing very hard. At the bottom the surf would spray up and get you wet a bit. Probly better to visit on a weekday as there are many tourist buses that stop there. There is also a very small shop there along with a couple of restrooms

Beautiful Jinja shrine, overlooking a magnificent cliff on the seaside. It's not easy to get there and there's a lot of driving involved, but once you arrive there's a spacious parking lot (although paid) and it's very enjoyable to walk around.
Make sure to bring a hat or umbrella, because the sun can be quite strong!
Also, don't forget to toss a coin on top!
Tokiwa Park is a vast and picturesque green space that boasts scenic walking paths adorned with seasonal flowers, a small zoo, fairground, and greenhouse. The park also features an array of intriguing sculptures and a serene lake at its center. Families with children are highly encouraged to visit for the opportunity to see various animals, notably monkeys in the local zoo.

Roadside station Kikugawa is a small yet delightful rest stop along the toll road. It offers mouthwatering somen noodles and delectable food from Yamaguchi, including Hagi's renowned soy sauce. The station also features a convenient outdoor toilet and a charming display of fresh vegetables that entices visitors. Additionally, Sanyo Bee Garden presents an array of surprising and delicious jams to savor, such as Amanatsu and plum flavors.

They handle things like Hagi's delicious soy sauce properly.
It's nice to have a toilet outside.

Nice Atmosphere, Good Food, Fast Service, Poor Location
The road station has the usual local produce store, souvenir store, restaurant, and (popular with the Japanese) a stamp to collect and prove that one has visited. The restaurant has Japanese decor, tatami mat seating, large windows, fast polite service, a wide selection of foods with a full plastic food menu display case at the entrance for easy ordering (you can take a photo of the dish you want to eat, or even take the waitress out there). We had the mish-mash chanpon noodles with vegetables and seafood in pork bone broth, the children had deep friend tofu (inari) udon. Both tasted good and were not expensive. Soba (buckwheat noodles) seem to be a local speciality. There are also a few flavours of soft ice cream, including the purple sweet potato flavour sold from the kiosk at the entrance to the restaurant.
My shtick or axe-to-grind is that the Japanese do not pay much attention to location, and panoramic views, being more interested in symbolic tourism, and visiting places where the symbols are. So while the windows of the restaurant were big and clear, which is in itself fairly rare, the location was chosen for centrality, and ease of access (particularly for the staff!), one presumes when, I would have preferred the road station to have been located on one of the hill side roadways such as near Shirayama Shrine or "Rest House Ama-bire" on the approach to Kikugawa from Ozuki Intersection on Route 491, where it would have provided a panoramic view of the Spa Town. Abu's Road Station is the only road station that I know that has a good view, but then it is of the Sea of Japan. Views are only provided when they are particularly beautiful. The Japanese want to see the particularly beautiful, the special and not the quotidian. I would have liked to have been able to look down on the home-centre and supermarket.

The Tsunoshima Lighthouse Park in Yamaguchi Ken boasts picturesque surroundings encompassing a notable lighthouse, complete with picnic spots, stunning ocean vistas, and seasonal blooms of daffodils. A must-visit destination that offers awe-inspiring panoramic views from both the lighthouse and its observatory. The vibrant shades of the deep blue and green sea are truly impressive. Additionally, visitors can explore a small museum where they can learn about the history and construction of this remarkable beacon.

Mojiko Retro District!! ️
If you look at the Mojiko Retro Guide Map, there are 13 spots listed as highlights 😃
At the time of the Taisho era, it was a stylish building, but in modern times it has become a nostalgic building❗️
It was a time when Mojiko was very lively ☺️☺️
The brick outer wall of the wonderful Western-style building was solidly built and had a mysterious feel to it ( ^ω^ )
The Taisho period was a short 15 years, but Mojiko, which prospered as a port town with a Western atmosphere since the Meiji period, lost momentum after the ravages of war (´;Д;`)
In 1995, the historical buildings were restored and the town was developed, and now it has been developed as the Mojiko Retro District! ️
It was a very calm town, and it was easy to look around on foot 🎵
A nostalgic scene.I realized that many things happened behind the building!! ️
Relax and heal your mind and body ❣️

Mojiko Station, located in the city of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka prefecture, is a historic Neo-Renaissance train station that was originally built in 1891 and later updated in 1914. It stands on a square with a fountain and is one of the few remaining wooden stations in Japan. The station reflects Western influence with its Neo-Renaissance style appearance and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property.

This station faces the Kyushu Railway Museum and is a historical station. (The station building was completed in 1914.) The history of the station dates back to 1891. There were no bridges or tunnels in the Kanmon Strait when it first opened, and this station served as the gateway to the railways of Kyushu. The station building is an important cultural property and is popular among Japanese railway enthusiasts.

A few train stations in Japan reflect strong influence of European-style architecture and building, and Mojiko Station is one of the examples. Mojiko Station is the Neo-Renaissance style building and was built in 1914, although the Station was first built earlier in 1891. It is designated as Important Cultural Property in Japan.
At present time, it is operated by Kyushu JR, and it is an important tourist attraction and entry gate for Korean and mainland China's tourists for Fukuoka tour.

The Kyushu Railway History Museum in Moji, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan is a must-visit for train enthusiasts and history buffs alike. It showcases a fascinating collection of steam engines, sleeping carriages, and an early electric train designed in 1942. Visitors can explore retired vehicles and even take a tour inside some of the old carriages. The museum also features a functioning miniature train track, driving simulation, and informative displays that cater to Japan's avid train following.
Entrance ticket is cheap, there is mini train if you want to ride (another payment). The diorama is great.

Obviously can't compare to the ones in Saitama and Kyoto but still a fantastic railway museum and admission is very cheap. There is a covered outdoor rolling stock exhibit and a 2-storey main building containing some model railways (that you can play with), art, a gift shop and a library that is open on weekends. The main highlight though is the mini train driving simulator which was good fun and well worth the price.

A small railway museum that you can learnt the history of the railway of Kyushu. There are some old trains displayed that you can get inside to see how the inside looks. You can also take great pictures here too. Highly recommended for kids and photographers.

So apparently once you buy a ticket and go in ,and you come out and want to go in again, you have to buy another ticket to go in. Overall it's good but I wish they would tell me that I can't go back inside once I've come out.
Ian Lee — Google review
Not very big but the entry fee is very reasonable and you get a discount from multiple tourist passes including the JR All Kyushu railway pass. Brochures are helpful and offered in multiple languages. Aside from the artefacts and allowing you to step inside some of the train carriages, I would also recommend the interactive exhibits (mini train ride outdoors and driving simulator inside the exhibition hall) especially if you have kids, they cost extra but not much. Finally, the selection of souvenirs in the gift shop is really good.

Fun outing for the kids esp being able to go inside the driving compartment of some of the older trains and a miniature track where they can drive mini trains around a track.
For the real train enthusiast, I think there will be just enough there to see the history of train development in Japan but probably find the specimen a little lacking.

Interesting little train museum. Plenty of old engines to look at and a few you can get inside.

very nice museum and have small trains to drive on rail. My son played 3 times and unfortunately the green yufuyin train was not in service that day. The train simulator also good and long driving time. Worth to go and explore some retired Japan trains. Before leaving we bought some train socks for our boy.

Kyushu Railway Hostory Museum established since 2003. It is one of the spot in Mojiko which should not miss especially for trains fans. It has a number of old trains since 1922. Besides trains, it also has a collection of signs, uniform, tools, etc. it is highly recommended to pay a visit if you are fans or with family. You can spend at least half of a day there. Don’t forget to take a ride of Seaside train 潮風號, an antique train but still working. Buy a round trip ticket unless you want to go the Kanmon Tunnel. As a reminder, only accept cash or suica. No credit card / debit card is accepted.

I enjoyed my time here, very informative, and you can find different trains that used in the past now showcased here. I paid for the mini train experience, though the train is quite small for adults, still a very good experience 😂

A big range of trains you can get on and experience. Aswell as a train ride that is 300 yen for 3 people. There is an inside exhibition aswell. My children's absolutely loved getting on all the trains and fiddling with the switches. Very good fun.

Good for family, friends and kids! I enjoyed it as an adult and bought made in Japan t-shirt there! good value for money! Learned a lot about railway history! Would recommended queueing for train simulator once arrive (60-90mins wait), then explore the museum, and come back for the sim. There was also a mini train ride for kids. Also a 10min video show explaining history of railways every hr, though all in Japanese. Spent 2 hrs at the museum! Sufficient aircon for summer weather, good place to hide from blazing sun and heat! No re-enter after exit (sign that says clearly).

Great little railway museum. Has quite the collection of locomotives for its size. A lot of other exhibits and historical items that are insightful for the rail fan. Really easy access from Mojiko station which is another must see place. So cheap to enter as well.

Karato Fish Market is a bustling hub with numerous vendors offering sashimi, sushi, and other prepared foods. What sets it apart from other fish markets in Japan is its abundance of fugu, also known as pufferfish. The market is heavily regulated for the preparation of fugu, requiring chefs to undergo extensive training before serving it. Located along Route 9, visitors can explore a wide variety of seafood at the market, including whale meat in nearby restaurants.
Finally I was here to try the fresh sushi market!! There was a many store, and not sure which is the best, so I picked few different items from different store. Everything I got was so tasty 😋 it was so worth of coming all the way!!! Definitely eat outside with beautiful view
Chocolatitto — Google review
Smaller but almost similar to Taukiji in Tokyo. Fairly neat market for fresh seafood and sushi.
But easy to pick and choose a number of sushi cuts to eat in some of the open areas outdoors. Fugu is probably the most common fish on the menu here, not sure if they’re farmed or caught.
Daniel Dizzy — Google review
Awesome fish market well known for their puffer fish. The sushi is great along with shrimp tempura and raw oysters. If you’re looking for fresh seafood, this is a perfect place to get some.
Buy it by selecting your choices, purchase refreshments, and eat it there or save for later. There’s no place to sit, no tables, so you’ve got to find a convenient spot to stand and enjoy eating while viewing the area. We chose the upper level.
Kai’ula — Google review
Neat market for fresh seafood and sushi. I don’t shop for fish here but it’s easy to pick and choose a number of sushi cuts to eat in some of the open areas outdoors. This place can get CRAZY crowded (but, you know, maintain social distancing or whatever) and no one seems to mind a little gentle jostling to get up the the front of the line. Sushi cuts range from standard tuna/salmon to more exotic cuts of pufferfish and whale.
Josh Diddams — Google review
Very crowded, all shops basically sells the same thing: cheap sushi
People usually try the fugu sashimi here but I definitely won’t recommend to try it here. It’s much worse than those restaurants serving fugu and pricy too.
Don’t think its worth to go unless you so happen to pass by and has no better place to go
There are some restaurants on the building next to the market which might be a little less touristy
LIN LIN — Google review
Karato Fish Market is a tourist place where fresh seafood and sashimi are highly recommended. It is famous for its fresh puffer fish. The fish market has two levels with some dining places located on the second floor.
There are only certain stalls open for business and the majority of them sell the same type of sushi. The price of the sushi here is reasonable and the overall thickness of the sashimi is acceptable.
Ting Ting — Google review
Probably some of the freshest tasting sushi here that I have ever eaten in my life. The cost is exceptionally low for the quality and the size of each piece of sushi that you can buy at the various stalls here.
They have a wide array of choices here for fresh fish, fried sozai, shellfish, and sushi that you can choose from. Some stalls send to be more popular than others but all of them seemed to have exceptionally good quality sushi.
The only bad part about eating here is that there are no tables to eat at, you'll have to sit on a wall outside the market or eat off of a wall ledge standing up. However I think it is totally worth it simply because the sushi here is phenomenal. It's something you should try at least once if you're in the area.
Ryan S — Google review
Better to be here on the weekends as people usually sell their products on the weekend and people visits the place and eat with their family along the Korato port.
Antonio Sontillanosa — Google review
Wonderful market with tasty good quality sushi at tough to beat prices. Be sure to visit on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Take your pick of sushi at the ground floor of the market building, take it out, and eat at the dock with a view of the Kanmon Strait. Must-experience for sushi-lovers either from Hiroshima or Fukuoka (1 short bus ride away)

Very good experience with sushi shop selection. Fresh tuna salmon and all kind of sushi ready made to eat at the seaside. Wonderful experience and reasonable price as well.
janut suchato — Google review
Excellent sushi and seafood! I had the best fatty tuna here. It’s said that this sushi market only opens on weekends. The only drawback is that there are hardly any seats for you to eat. Most people just stand or sit on the floor to eat, which is not very hygienic. Overall: food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ but environment ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Vivian Mwy — Google review
We visited the market on weekday and there were not much stalls working, so we decided to try some puffer fish dishes in a restaurant at the food corner. Sashimi or deep fried fugu are both tender with good flavour and worth trying once when you visit this market.

Encounter the best sushi of your life at the seafood market
If you go to Karato Market, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays are recommended.
Check business days on the Karato Market website
Selling sushi aimed at the general public at a reasonable price.
The raw fish is soft and fresh, and the rice grains dissolve smoothly in the mouth without feeling stuck.
Sushi heaven while looking at the retro Mojiko Port and enjoying the sea breeze.
Mootag Shon — Google review
Most of the vendors (to sell fresh whole fish to the restaurants, etc) were closed when we arrived around 12 pm. But there still have some fresh made sushi, deep fried, and miso soup vendors available. They are really fresh and CHEAP!!
One of the most visit places if you come to visit Kyushu. There are some shops that start to discount after 1 pm, however, there are not many opinions.
James Cage — Google review
Awesome fish market, like a smaller Tsukiji. Great place to try cheap Fugu. Market-style where you order individual sushi from different stalls and they put it in a plastic container for you. Fried oysters were also nice and fresh though would be better if hot.
Julius 888 — Google review
The market is very crowded, with numerous stalls selling sushi and seafood, puffer fish as well. However, the indoor seating area is small, so most people opt to picnic outside the market. It's a great experience, but be cautious of the birds; they will try to steal your food.
Man Man — Google review
Seriously, it's very crowded. There are slight differences in products between stores, but are they similar? It's best to choose early and eat while looking out at the strait. There is a small but indoor dining area on the second floor. Personally, I recommend the shop on the second floor. You can eat slowly and calmly. Enjoy the fugu too.
Youji Nomo — Google review
Quite disappointed as the day we went only had a few stores open, we've checked on Google for the opening hours before we go, the info on Google mentioned that the market will only closed on Wednesday and so we went there on a Tuesday morning with an empty stomach (with big expectation to have a feast there), who knows >_<........ The staff of the stores which opening on that day mentioned now most of the stores will open on weekend only and they suggested us to revisit on weekends, how I wish I could....
Endup we had our brunch at a restaurant located on the second level of the market, luckily the sashimi is fresh and delicious.
Erica — Google review
Majority of the stall in the market was not operating when we visited as it was a holiday.
Do double check on their operating status to avoid disappointment.
As we were wondering where we could have our breakfast since the market is not operating, we were inform by the nice stall lady owner that there's restaurant located on the 2nd floor of the market.
So off we go and we were not disappointed.
We had a great hot meal.

Shinyaba Gorge is a picturesque river valley renowned for its stunning autumn foliage and breathtaking mountain vistas. Visitors can soak in hot springs and marvel at an observatory while enjoying the beautiful scenery. However, it tends to be quite crowded with tourists, so arriving early is recommended to avoid the crowds. The area boasts delicious local cuisine such as shishi nabe (boar soup) and shika kushi (deer on a stick), making it an excellent spot for foodies too.
Visited on 21/11/22. Whilst the best time to see has passed, there are still plenty of red leaves en-route and near the big parking lot. The viewing platform itself is quite small but you could walk around the area by foot (we spent around an hour taking photos etc). The mountains are magnificent whether with or without red leaves! Driving through the area is such an enjoying experience.

We went on a rainy day so we only went to two shops, but the potteries are so nice, we bought some beautiful tea cups. The shops are unattended and you need to ring the bell if you want to buy. They are professional craftsmen busy working in the workshops, not professional customer service employees, so don't be a jerk going in.
Megan Cao — Google review
Am a potter hence wanted to visit this place to possibly make some ceramics or buy some unique pieces. However, there were probably only 4-5 shops that were opened, with many store owners being quite nonchalant and products were limited. Not as wide of a range as one would’ve expected. Interesting to still see how they pound the yellow clay using the force of the water. Love the cute (and only food store) soba and udon shop!
Wendy — Google review
It is somewhat unfortunate that it was not easy to purchase the pottery because there was no separate explanation about it. The store consists of about 8-9 stores.

When art, tradition, and nature seamlessly fuse, the resulting uniqueness establishes an identity of its own. Originality can't be replicated nor transferred; it exclusively resides within the soul of the creator. This is what it is.

Traditional village full of potters. The museum is a great place to start. You can then wander down the road and visit all the pottery studios and shops. Everything is handmade, without machinery. The clay is even pounded by the power of the stream running through the village. Very narrow roads to and from the village.
Kym Textor — Google review
A village dedicated to pottery. Serene and tranquil, located in the middle of mountain and forest. Really nice walking in the village and admiring all the pottery items.
J Seng — Google review
This pottery village is a gem! Totally connected with the natural environment, river water is used to grind the clay taken from the river bank, very fine grinding, the potters move their wheel with their feet, the kilns are built using the natural inclination of the terrain and use the small wood pieces that remain from the local wood shops in the surroundings, I met potters with 50 years of expertise. And the local cafe prepares teuchi soba nooddles. This cafe is almost on top of the river, soft refreshing wind enters from the window and refreshes the air and brings the music of a calm stream. The lady in charge of the restaurant was very kind, loved it!

It felt like I was visiting an old country town that regular people lived. Not a tourist attraction. Anyway everything closed before 5pm even the brewery.
The Sapporo Beer Factory in Kyushu Hita is a modern brewery that opened its doors in 2000, situated just a short distance from the town center. The brewery takes advantage of Hita's renowned pure water to craft its delicious beer, which visitors can sample on-site. Guided tours are available for both the Kuro Black Label and Yebisu beers at a nominal fee.

Tosu Premium Outlets is a contemporary shopping center that offers a vast selection of international brand-name items at discounted prices. Unlike other premium outlets, such as Tokyo/Kobe and Gotemba, Tosu Premium Outlets is less crowded and more relaxed, making it an enjoyable shopping experience for anyone. With its spacious layout and numerous brand options, shoppers can easily spend hours browsing through the various stores.
A nice place to take a walk. It has about 170 brands and a huge food court. Bargains for Nike, adidas quite ok. Tosu premium outlet can be reached via JR train from Hakata train station to Tosu station, then take bus 20 across the street, which departs hourly to reach Tosu Premium outlet. There are more public buses operating during Saturdays and Sundays, compared to weekdays.

This outlet is large and has many options. They range from shoe brand shops to clothing outlets to confectionery. There is also a food court with restaurants such as Ippudo. However, the food court is very crowded and it is hard to find an area to sit. However, I still think it is a great outlet and I recommend people to come here.

Lots of great stores. Great deals. Dog friendly. Dogs must be in a stroller or holder. Some stores might require them to be fully sealed in the stroller or carrier before going in (Nike). There is a trash can for dog poop before going into the outlet

Tosu Premium Outlet is highly recommended to those who enjoy shopping! The easiest way to get to the outlet from Fukuoka city is by bus. The bus departs from Nishitetsu Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal and the journey is approximately an hour. The return bus fare is very reasonable but there is only one trip on weekdays.
There are some very good bargains for a few brands like Levis, Coach, Kate-Spade, and Adidas but in general, the discounts from most stores are not great. Some of the items and handbags are rather out of season. There are over 100 stores in this premium outlet and a few good hours are definitely needed just to visit half of the shops.
There is a clean and comfortable food court located within the premium outlets and apart from Japanese food, Korean & fusion cuisine is available. There is also a Baskin-Robbins in the food court. Weekdays are the best to visit and it is never crowded at all!

Not all stores offered genuinely appealing bargains! Some of them was so obviously out-of-dated as stores only took a fraction of discount out of the original price-tag! The dining choices were almost limited!

Had a great time in Tosu Premium Outlet,
- there’s bus No.20 to Tosu station,
- and bus No.30 to Yayoigaoka station,
- both about 15-20mins wait,
- there’s taxi there too, but I recommend the bus it’s just 200-280yen dirt cheap,
There’re restaurants and food court too, I recommend the food court because the queue is not that long and the food is cheaper, I ate around 2pm and the crowd is still there, don’t recommend to eat at 12pm you need to queue really long,
- the selection at BAPE is really limited if you’re going Tosu premium outlet for this, all sizes probably S-M, hardly L, the coach pricing wise is slightly more expensive than US premium outlets, but there’s more stocks compared to US, and the quality that they took care of the products is superb, you can drop by FrancFranc too lotsa furnitures and stuff you can buy there, Mr.Tanabe from Coach Men is awesome, there’s GAP and SEIKO, I took a photo of the map and list of shops, do take a look

Very nice baseball stadium! Foreigners buy tickets at gate 7 window 7. It's pretty simple, know how much you're willing to spend and the clerks find seats for you and you pick which ones you want! Good food options too, not too pricey compared to American sporting event food markups. Check out the rules for attending the game as well since there are a few customs here that are quite different.

Nice place for a concert. The sound was better than I expected from such a big arena.
