Lake Livingston State Park
State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Camping, white bass fishing, hiking & swimming destination with horseback riding & a pool.
Stayed 1 night on 1/3/21 in camp site #59 with a C class camper. All hookups available and in good shape. Plenty of room with a beautiful view of the lake. A relatively short walk to bathroom facilities which were unheated but clean. I would definitely stay at this campground again.

We arrived on Friday around 215pm and was greeted by two very nice ladies at check in. This was our first time to any state park and were a little unsure of how all this worked. They walked us through it and got us checked in. I purchased the one year park pass to all the state parks and it got me a discount on my second nights stay.
The facility was very nice and we found the park to be well maintained. We easily found our RV spot and were pleased with the setup. Only thing I wish we could have done was trim a couple small branches that contacted out 5th wheel. The park was quiet even though there was a huge influx of other campers arriving to the park later that evening. Everyone was respectful and kept their sites in order. We will definitely be back in the future!
The park store was nice and just FYI if you have the state park pass you get a good discount on the stores items. A lot of people brought their kayaks and boats. We were just there to unwind some, which we did. Overall I give this a 5 star experience if you are looking for relaxation with access to a BIG lake. If you are looking for a ton of activities, then you may be a little disappointed unless you bring them yourself.

We stayed at the screen shelters. A little dirty with spider webs but was fine. They had water and electricity which was very convenient. The shelter also had a top bunk area accessible via a vertical wood ladder. Had wood table bench inside and outside of shelter. A barbecue fire pit was also available with free wood.

First time here and it was a real treat. I came with a group of women to camp and socialize. All of us felt so rejuvenated packing up. I love that the campsites are close together, the trails are easy and not so elevated, and the rangers are very friendly and knowledgeable. Will be back in May to try out kayaking and fishing.
Antonella Mazzei — Google review
Beautiful, well kept campground with lots of trails to hike.
Great fishing on the lake, rv sites well level and plenty of room between sites with fire ring at each site.
Plenty of firewood available for purchase at park
Beautiful sunsets on a beautiful day!
Definitely a must visit!
Balbina Carroll — Google review
We stayed at a shelter. The view is so good. Lake view, the sun set. Although they have bug screens, they aren't well sealed. Bugs are still able to get in. You can still open your tent if you want bug free place. Depending on the location, some bathrooms look better than the the one near our shelter.
Ghin Wong — Google review
Lake looked nice. Good spot for fishing and boating and camping from the looks of it. Lots of rangers and volunteers keeping it clean. I went hiking and the trails are pretty basic and easy. Perfectly nice but I got eaten alive by mosquitoes. I don't think I've ever been swarmed like that. Make sure to bring and apply insect repellent.
Mark Flood — Google review
Beautiful park. Very clean. I absolutely loved it there. The campsites are very spacious. I definitely recommend this place.
The fishing pier is nice sized and has lights on it for night fishing.
The activity areas were well maintained and a lot of fun.
Adam Roush — Google review
A quiet and beautiful place to spend time with family and friends. There is a entrance fee, for adults and kids under 12 do not pay. You need to check in at the entrance and then continue the road where you are going to find spots for diving and swimming. They have kayak rentals, showers and even an event venue.
Ile Vela — Google review
Fantastic camping location. Staff is top notch and very friendly. Camp sites were clean and well taken care of. I had 2 bathrooms within a 1 minute walk. It rained over 6 inches the 3 previous days but camp site was still very usable. Trails were a bit sloppy but expected with the amount of rain. Nicest park I've been to near Houston. Lots of activities for kids
Ryan T — Google review
This is a beautiful park, with nature's friends everywhere you look. The trails (that we experienced) were stroller friendly, and there was no shortage of picnic spaces. There were many interactive learning spots along the trails, also.
The activity center was very nicely laid out, and it had a wonderful view of the lake. The kids enjoyed the slide and swings after our light "hike".
When camping, we enjoyed the large campsites. Pin Oak section was complete with electric and water hookups for campsites. The shower house/bathrooms were very tidy and decently clean, and I really appreciated the stall layout for the two showers.
The store has a observation tower, and you can also find a Nature Center inside for the kids!
Tiffany Blair — Google review
Very nice care of the park. Beautiful view and sites for RV trailers close to the marina. Currently some issues with the water system limits the capacity of visitors. Make sure you have a reservations no matter is a one day visitor.

Seren and most amazing place near Houston. Maintained carefully by government since years. If you live in Houston and still not enjoyed the nature here, you have lost something. No hustle and bustle like Galveston or Kemah.
Kumud Vaiwala — Google review
Beautiful park with friendly staff. If you're planning to swim in the shallow area I'd recommend wearing water shoes because there are a lot of rocks. They kayak rental is done by phone. The code they send you doesn't work sometimes, but you can text the service provider and they usually reply within a couple minutes with a new code.
Victor Hernandez — Google review
Beautiful place during sunset. Well maintained park. This park offers place for Boating, fishing, Camping, Swimming. Entry ticket per car is 11 dollars/State pass can be purchased in ticket counter.

Arrived after dark and paid via an envelope. $14/tent site. They provided a nap but I could not find the tent sites. I ended up staying a a rig site. I didn’t use any electricity. Washrooms we’re typical State Park type but no heating. You’d never want to shower as it would be too cold. I found the night quiet and I felt safe.
Lisa Cancade Hackett — Google review
We stayed in the Piney Shores area. The loop is nice and clean, sites are very clean and well maintained, this loop and the Yaupon Loop have full hookups. The water pressure is great. Used the bathroom by the cabins/boat ramp and it is nice and clean. Will definitely come back. The park store/nature center is great, well stocked and the rangers are very nice and helpful.
Willie Cruise — Google review
We've glamped at many state and national parks, and Lake Livingston is in our top three! The lake is serene, and they have many campsites overlooking it. The sites are spacious with concrete pads and full hookups. We were there in February, and we saw too many bird species to list here. The trails and roads are easy to navigate, and they have a large fishing pier (although no one was catching), observation deck, camp store, day use, and so much more. Also check out the nearby town of Livingston, especially the eclectic historic district. What's not to love?
Karen Farrell — Google review
Park is nice and quiet. We stayed in red oak area with full hookups. Site 42 at red oak. We were by the bathhouse so people would come from the woods to go to the bathhouse and walk on our site. The site has a lot of trees and would be great for summer shade camping. Concrete pad was level. Watch out for the ditches. It can be tight when trying to park. Trails are wide enough for bikes. Lots of picnic tables and day area, boat ramp, and fishing pier. The playground is small with swings and a slide. There is a small camp store. They have interactive with reptiles at camp store....be careful! Restrooms and showers are very clean and have hot water!
Saw a lot of birds, squirrels, and plenty of squirrel nests. This is one of our favorite state parks.
If you get a chance to go on a hike, please go. The Rangers are very knowledgeable. Thanknyou Ranger Eric

This is an excellent state park with numerous facilities to ensure an active and fun filled escape from your everyday routine. The park staff is friendly and helpful and the maintenance personnel are out early and often to keep everything in good shape and clean.
Hiking, fishing, horseback riding, archery, bike riding, boating, paddle boarding and enjoying nature and the fresh air are all readily available. There are a variety of campsites available for RV’s and separately for tent campers both near the lake and further away for more solitude.
The campsites are fairly large and well arranged for setting up a comfortable camp. Unfortunately, there is not sufficient foliage between the sites to provide a noise buffer. So you can easily hear the activities of your nearby neighbors if they happen to be a bit noisy.
mojovoyager — Google review
This is a beautiful Texas State Park. The campsites are large and very well kept. The folks in the camp store make you feel welcome and answer questions with a smile. I planned 10 days here. The trails keep me busy along with relaxing by the campfire in the evenings.

Great for picnics and fishing, a nice place to spend your weekend with family. The squirrels are friendly and the playground was near by. We got to see a mesmerizing sun set.
Gator Country is an excellent wildlife rescue center that offers a variety of attractions and activities to visitors. The park is renowned for its warm and welcoming staff, as well as the diverse range of creatures on display. One particularly popular attraction is the Gator Boat Tour, which takes visitors through stunning scenery in hopes of spotting alligators in their natural habitat. Despite there being no guarantees regarding sightings, many guests find the boat trip enjoyable nonetheless.
We will forever cherish our visit to Gator Country. We took our 3 year old who is obsessed with reptiles and he had a great time. My husband turned into a kid and wanted to touch every single animal that we were allowed to touch. The guides we had were amazing, I cannot say enough good things about them, they made our visit special and were amazing to our toddler. Our 3 year old was the first to touch a snake thanks to one of the guides who made us all feel comfortable right away. The place itself is a bit old and the bathrooms could use some help but the visit was very worth it. The day we went was very cold so they didn't have afternoon shows, however it didn't take away from the fun, my son, husband and I enjoyed feeding the gators a lot and learning about all the precious reptiles they take care of. A must visit from Houston, specially for kids and all reptile lovers. So many gators and awesome animals, very educational as well.
Mafer Ugarte — Google review
A great place to see alligators. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. This place has just about everything. You have all kind of reptiles and even cold beer. What more could you ask for, oh a military discount which they do offer.
Joseph Davis — Google review
The prices were decent. There was plenty of gators to look at and the whole experience to get to get in the water with the baby gators was amazing! The kids loved that part! They also enjoyed feeding the gators and turtles! The food part of the place was really disappointing as they didn't have many options and the meals only came with plain lays. My advice would be to eat before or after. My sausage link didn't even come with bbq sauce which is why I had gotten it. So food all together was disappointing. But the kids had fun and that's all that counts. Oh and there's also a splashpad that the kids enjoyed as well! Had a broken water thing on it but still was fun for the kids to cool off afterwards!
Heather Jackson — Google review
Accompanied my daughter to a field trip here, and these people are so friendly and informative. TONS of gators that you can FEED! It was such an amazing experience, and we are planning on going again.
Bubba Rodriguez — Google review
We had a great visit to Gator Country! This is a great park with friendly staff and lots to see! We also went on the Gator Boat Tour - although you aren't guaranteed seeing gators - the boat trip is beautiful and worth it. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!
Michelle Downey — Google review
We took our teenagers here and we all had such a blast! Love how you can walk where ever and can take your time! And we were even able to bring our Australian Shepherd in (on a leash) 🙃 Both kids had enough guts to hold a snake for the 1st time!!!! Great family fun totally worth the trip and $$
Elizabeth Rhodes — Google review
We hadn't planned in advance to stop here but when we saw about it on our way we were intrigued to view the wildlife here. Unfortunately I had some difficulty finding it due to construction on I-10. However, I am glad we did make it here. Saw many gators and other very interesting creatures such as big tortoises, snakes, and goats. Staffers were friendly and were knowledgeable and entertaining during the scheduled "gator show." It was too bad we did not get to see the two biggest and most famous gators due to them hiding out from the heat, but I understand the need to respect their behavior and not force things on them. Admission was worth it in part because we know the price goes to conservation and education. They have a small food counter, but we didn't have anything to eat there. There also are different options for different ways to feed gators or have a "bird encounter." Glad we visited here. Maybe we will come back some time when it's a little cooler, since most of the attractions are outside, and then maybe we could meet the two "star" gators.
Derek Gantt — Google review
I will come back. Children like this place so much. The staff here helps children to pet the animals like snake, python, rabbit, dragon, small alligator... There also have tortoises, goat, chicken, and venomous snakes. You can buy food to feed alligators. 12 o'clock is the time of alligator show. You should be here at that time. You will have to pay a little bit more if you buy tickets by card. See the bill in the attached photo. It would take 4 hours playing here
Tu Le — Google review
It’s an experience for sure… Lots of gators of different varieties and even a ‘petting zoo’ for the kids, some goats behind an enclosure and turtles roaming in their area.
Looks like some nice updates to the area have been made(new decking and MC area.)
Beer was cold and reasonably priced for a bucket for the adults. Sno cones at $5 seemed a little overpriced for what you get.
Staff was nice and the noon show was informative, unfortunately didn’t include any feeding, told the alligator are still a little sluggish from the winter.
Splash pad was nice for the kids to cool off but had to walk all the way to the reptile house for the restroom. The one close by, was closed.
Oh and the gator scare…
Scott Starr — Google review
This place is amazing for all ages. We had a wonderful time with the animals and the encounters offered. We went and stayed for at least three hours and could have stayed longer if it hadn’t been so hot outside. They do have air conditioned buildings as well. Overall, this was a wonderful place to go.
Stacie Campbell — Google review
We had a great experience here at Gator Country with all the kids and of course, gators😬. They're well gated to protect kids and adults from being in direct contact with the gators.. They accommodated Gator Country with a place to eat, relax, play on the playground with your kids, and there's an open area where you can feed the tortoise. Love it love it!! Just make sure you're supervising your kids.
Rontunya Davis — Google review
Great experience, they have a sort of Petting zoo, consisting of chickens, goats, ducks, tortoises, birds (extra to see them), lots of snakes and more! I recommend buying the food for the goats, tortoises if you personally like them, and trying the bird stick - the gator food isn’t really worth it and the gators don’t care for it much - the animal’s living conditions also aren’t very good at all, but they had a live show and it was super cool, they told fun stories about it and great workers!
Shayan — Google review
We had a great time. The weather wasn’t great so there weren’t any people there, which was awesome.
The people working were excellent. They answered a lot of questions and we learned quite a bit just through casual conversation.
The guy in the main building with all the snakes was super nice and very informative.
We will definitely come back on a better weather day so we can see the show. (Too cold for the alligators today.)
Kristine Taube — Google review
Fantastic experience! We got to feed the alligators, tortoises and even some chickens, goats, geese and emus! Wading with the baby alligators was super fun. They're stronger than you'd expect! The show itself is very informative. In the main building you can interact with other reptiles, snakes, bearded dragons, and more. Great place to visit with the family and to get kids introduced to certain animals, teach them how to properly handle them and possibly lose the fear of some.
Nina Garza — Google review
We had a fantastic experience! They don't just have alligators, but also tortoises and even some chickens, goats, geese and emus! At the entrance you buy dolifferent kinds of feed for all the animals. Wading with the baby alligators was super fun, but be aware they're stronger than you'd expect! The alligator show is very informative and impressive. The owner was wearing a shirt that said "quick hands or no hands", which was very fitting after seeing how he was handling the gators. In the main building you can interact with other reptiles, snakes, bearded dragons, and more. It's a great place to visit with the family and to get kids introduced to these animals.
Nina Kern — Google review
Don't fall in! No joke! The experience was awesome but there were a few rotten boards. If you go, which I do recommend, I suggest you look where you step and teach the little ones to do the same.
John Doyle — Google review
Oh my goodness. It surpassed any and all expectations. I brought my grandbabies out and it was amazing. I asked the staff their names AND I really wished I could remember them all BECAUSE from the intial encounter at the front till the end it was absolutely incredible. Eddie was a standout for us and Kevin with his grandparents made it extra special for us. I had the sweetest young lady offer to take a picture with me and the boys, thank you, thank you. We saw her later and she gave us the same exceptional service with the snakes. Before we left the boys all got the best hug from Eddie and memories that will live on way after this old granny is gone. Absolutely the best trip ever I have had with my boys.
Tammy — Google review
We had a great time. The kids loved it. Best part is being able to feed the gators. The show is pretty funny also. The owner let the kids know they should stay in school or they might end up in the water with a 14 foot gator... lol. He looks like he is doing ok though!
The McFaddin-Ward House Historic Museum is a stunning example of beaux arts architecture, furnished in a period style that provides visitors with a glimpse into early Beaumont life. The museum offers guided tours and exhibits, including the opportunity to explore all three floors and the carriage house on a docent-led tour. Those who prefer to explore independently can still enjoy taking in the first floor and carriage house free of charge.
This house is gorgeous !! Highly recommend you to go and visit this historical home. A+

A great location full of interesting Beaumont history. I highly recommend taking the docent led tour. I brought a group here for a day outing and the staff were very warm and welcoming. All were very knowledgeable and full of information. The McFaddin- Ward House was an incredible sight to behold, so many cool things to see and as you walk through you can imagine life in the early days of Beaumont's growth.

My wife and I attended a free open house tour of the first floor just before Christmas. A lot of people were there, so they limited each group to about 10 people. A small group of musicians as well as carolers were there to entertain people as they waited in line.
The house is amazing and the docents were very knowledgeable about its history. Each room was decorated for the holidays and all of the items were original to the McFaddin-Ward family.
Now I'm looking forward to another visit to tour the entire house. It truly is a treasure.

I had a chance to visit the McFaddin-Ward House Museum and I loved the experience. Admission to this museum is FREE. The attendants at the museum were very knowledgeable and helpful. The security guard at the house was a wealth of information and was very thorough in his explanations of the property. This museum tells the history of the McFaddins who made their name in Beaumont. This museum is also not for children under 8, as there are many original pieces in the property.

This place always has super cute events from picnics on the lawn to decking the entire house inside and out for Christmas. If you haven't attended one of their event or taken a tour of the house get yourself down to McFaddin-Ward house!

Sea Rim State Park is a nature lover's paradise located close to the Texas and Louisiana Coast, offering visitors 5 miles of beautiful beach and fantastic opportunities for bird watching, nature walks, and wildlife viewing. The park boasts an excellent combination of marshland and beach, where you can watch shorebirds in their natural habitat before heading down to the stunning beach area.
This is a must! Small Texas state park nestled on the Gulf coast near Port Arthur. Stock up first, as it's not super close to gas stations, stores, etc. This park has miles of beach you can walk along. The park staff are excellent, friendly and very helpful. There is a great parking lot for day use. Overnight camping on the beach is an option here - even for RVs. I saw Class A, B, C RVs camping on the beach here. There are also RV sites with electric and water. The RV dump station is across the state highway on the Marsh side of this park where there is a canoe/kayak launch area. They are available for rent on the Marsh side. Get an annual Texas State Parks Pass - it's worth it! Reserve the RV campsites online on the official website.

Wonderful state park, clean campground and miles of beaches to enjoy! There were only two other campers when we were there. Beach is a darker sand and it is quite wild, waters also somewhat darker color. Nevertheless, this is an exceptional place to visit an enjoy an untouched beach, which is rare nowadays. We swam in the ocean and water was warm (end of August). I highly recommend it if you enjoy nature (including some big mosquitoes!)

Very clean state park. We had a great time with out all the crowds to worry with. We will definitely come back. If your looking for a relaxed family atmosphere with primitive beach camping this place will be great. The boardwalk thru the marsh area was a good touch also. Only tip to remember is make sure you apply bug spray first thing so you can enjoy your trip.

Love this park! It's a beautiful location and not crowded. The wildlife is amazing on the back and in the marsh areas. The heat has affected the marsh a lot right now but it's still beautiful. You can drive out on the beach and that was a cool experience! I really like being able to park and literally walk to the water. And oh my the shells! Very beautiful place!

Loved Sea Rim State Park. Make sure to walk the Gambusia Nature Trail which is on the left when you enter the park. It is a wooden trail that goes out into the water and is just beautiful. You can camp here with fairly open sites. There are gators active in the area we saw one just walking around sitting on the side (photo below). You do have to pay to get into the park. It was less than $5. For $5 you get access to the trails and the beach. Campground stays cost more.

Great spot to park and walk along the beach. Tons of seashells, long walks with great views to see birds and wildlife. Only paid about $6, kids had a great time. Pet friendly!

UNPLUG!!!
Mid-July on a Tuesday and we shared the beach with less than ten people (& not all at the same time). Nice sandy bottom. Needs some care because of flotsam washing ashore, but it's still nice.
It's not white sand. Plus side is you aren't super sandy. Camp grounds are immaculate. Make sure to read what's available here and be prepared.
Angi Morgan — Google review
We wanted to check out the floating campsite and marsh trails at Sea Rim.
The park is nice, clean, and uncrowded during the week. Composting toilet stations were clean. Park personnel were friendly and helpful.
We were able to rent kayaks (unaffiliated with the State Park) on-site to tour the marsh trails. The rental kayaks and life-vests were not well-maintained. State Park-owned kayaks (provided with the floating campsite rental) were a lot nicer and cleaner in comparison.
We found the floating campsite and while the idea is intriguing in theory; in practice it serves as a bird perch when not in use. Due to it being covered in bird feces, we were not too keen on a future rental. However, park personnel may have the policy to spray it off once a rental is secured??...I would definitely inquire, if I were you.
The moderate trail was a little claustrophobic due to the narrowness of it. And you can only really enjoy the overall view of the marsh from the floating campsite platform.
We enjoyed our time on the kayak trail, but will probably not do a repeat. I do, however, recommend it, just for the experience alone.

It's one of the best state parks in Texas I've been to.
Friendly and helpful staff, cozy campgrounds, wonderful beach, far from civilization, absolutely fantastic atmosphere. And oh, you're allowed to camp on the beach if you're brave enough, with your vehicle!
Have been here more than once, will definitively come back.
Remember to leave the beach in at least the same state you found it. This is a place worth protecting and keeping clean.

Has a wonderful time! The beach was beautiful and it was shallow enough for my daughter to play in the water. Very clean with trash cans everywhere AND dog friendly! Dogs do need to be on a leash though and make sure to bring water. The waves aren't too bad so my dog had a great time also playing in the water. Looking forward to going back!

My friend wanted to see Galveston but luckily I found this spot!! There is something to be said about a beautiful empty beach with no crowds!! The boardwalk the beach was well cared for. Apparently you can drive on the sand and it was only $3 per person. No issue with parking and you’ve got 5 miles of coast line. I wish we could’ve had more time here it was sooo serene

We came here for the Fourth of July weekend and we expected it to be ridiculously busy, but it pleasantly was not busy at all! We camped and RV’d at the state park for 4 days/3 nights and we had a terrific visit! Lots of nature to explore :) BEWARE OF THE MOSQUITOES ~ COME PREPARED TO FIGHT

I stayed in the RV park in my bus with my two dogs. The area is mostly clean and well maintained. I generally stayed on the section of the beach closed to vehicle traffic that didn't allow fishing. The camping spots allow are pull through and give lots of privacy. The nights are generally quiet, and the night sky is gorgeous. On Monday afternoon, I had the entire beach, as far as the eye could see, to myself for almost two hours. I highly recommend this park.
I didn't use the restrooms, but my friend told me they weren't super pleasant. Something you can expect from a small state park in the hot, hot Texas summer. There weren't real showers like when I came here as a kid back in the day, but there are rinse off showers on the boardwalk.
In previous trips, I've spent time on the marsh side of the park kayaking and will definitely do it again.

This place is very unique however absolutely do not get out of your vehicle until you are covered in bug spray. The mosquitoes are Relentless and there is no getting away from them unless you are a good ways down the beach closer to the ocean. I can't stress this enough, make sure you have bug spray although they do sell it for $12 a bottle at the campground check in. The boardwalk out over the marshy area is pretty awesome. This place is pretty desolate mid December right now. Only a handful of campers here.

Went for a walk on a 70-degree, sunny Saturday. The beach was so clean and smooth! Not many people there at all. Low tide and water was calm and clear. Thank goodness the wind was blowing because otherwise, I would have been carried off by mosquitoes! They were not a bother this time, however.

Cool little park, but we were not prepared for the magnitude of mosquitoes we encountered while there. I did read some comments before we went saying that the mosquitoes were horrible but took the attitude of how bad could it be? We live in south texas and have mosquitoes where we live... Boy were we in for a huge surprise! We tried to use some natural oils that are supposed to repel mosquitoes but the mosquitoes just laughed at it LOL After just a few minutes of being swarmed, we went to the guard shack and asked for something with DEET, which they provided for $11, $9.90 with our park pass discount. That was our only saving grace. Even with that though, we still had to restrict our outdoor activities and ended up cooking all meals in the trailer and not enjoying the fire ring during the cool nights. The beach was great, and we enjoyed our walks several times a day. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular! They also have a cool little boardwalk trail out over the marsh. They even have kayak rentals for marsh treks, which we didn't do. But be warned... bring DEET and spray up... multiple times while outdoors! Open and close vehicle doors and trailer/tent doors quickly! And then spend the next hour killing mosquitoes! We came, we saw, not sure if we'll be back...

Will start with our only con: mosquitoes. As soon as you pull up to check in they swarm your vehicle. Just use repellent and you'll have a good time. Plenty of walking on the boardwalks. The west beach is open to vehicles, accessible from the RV camping loop. There are 15 RV camping sites with electric and water, asphalt pads, fire ring and lantern hook. Primitive camping on the beach. Take what you need, the closest store is about 15 miles away. The closest Walmart will take you 30 to 40 minutes.

BE AWARE: Massive mosquito Infestation at Sea Rim SP as of 12/2023 - and is an ongoing problem. Full details 👇🏼
Giving 4 stars because the park itself is clean and well maintained. The staff/rangers are friendly and helpful. We saw the rangers out every day checking on things and maintaining the property - which was excellent. They all deserve 5 stars!
But dropped a star because potential guests NEED to know about the mosquito situation and the state website should add it as a warning for this campground (like states do with wildfires/burn restrictions and other important things).
Upon arrival, just rolling our window down at the check in, we were swarmed by mosquitoes rushing in to our B van. You can literally not be outside without DEET and even then, we recommend long sleeves, pants, socks and a netted hat would be ideal.
Make sure you cover as many of your outside vents on your rig as possible - the mosquitos will come in through your furnace/fan vents and any other tiny fissure they can find. Yes - covering those vents will also make your rid muggy and humid inside. 🤷🏼♀️ The mosquitoes are worse.
We booked and stayed 4 nights. As full-time RVers for 2+ years, we have stayed in all kinds of places, climates and circumstances. I've never had an issue with this many mosquitos - anywhere. We literally couldn't leave our rig, absolutely couldn't cook outside (we did the first night, but plan to be cooking and eating inside for your sanity and health), and we definitely couldn't build a fire. Carrying trash to the bins makes you a target and you'll literally be covered in mosquitoes, like they are glitter someone through on you (but if glitter sucked your blood 😱).
We saw multiple rigs arrive and leave before their first night started (it's that intense).
Every night before bed, we'd kill as many mosquitos as we could find in the rig (make it a game so it is less creepy to think about). But by our fourth night we clearly had hundreds of mosquitoes hiding out in our 21 foot van. Turned our AC on every night to keep the rig cold enough to, hopefully, make them less active while we slept.
The beach itself is beautiful and the coastal winds keep the mosquitoes at bay there, but that's the only reprieve. There is a boardwalk over inland water that was also enjoyable and fairly mosquito free. Those were the only times we got to experience "the outside".
Our site had partial hook ups, no issue there. The dump station is actually a little less than a mile from the campground (not on site) and as expected, it is a mosquito nightmare to use.
There is virtually no cell service and the Wi-Fi is too slow to be useable. Which is crazy bc you can't be outside and then there is nothing to do inside.
If you book this park - download content and go prepared!

Beautiful area and only $3 for entry. When we went there weren't a ton of people! There were a few campers but we drove down to the beach. No one else was down there and it was a nice peaceful time watching the sunset.
The one minus was the amount of mosquitoes 🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟. Definitely bring some bug spray with you!

Beautiful campground, short walk to the beach, with large camping sites that are grass covered, pull through with water and 50A electric. The beach is sandy, clean and not crowded. The water is very still probably because it is shallow for long distance. Lots of pelicans and seagulls. SUP boarding was fun, with thousands of fishes swimming/flipping around. The kids loved seeing the birds catching, and sometimes dropping, fishes. We also seen the fin of shark(s) that seemed to be hunting the fishes.
The main problem is the mosquito infestation! I've never seen that much mosquito in a long time! Despite all the insects repellent spraying, we couldn't finish the weekend. Had to leave after lunch.
Also, there was a group partying overnight with chats/laughs and very loud music until 5am.
No flush restrooms or shower. There's outdoor cold showers by the beach to rinse.
Originally established in 1942, this 252-acre garden features hundreds of plants & birds.
Beautiful gardens and natural site!! We walked the mile long loop through the gardens and bird blind and enjoyed it so much. The lush gardens and water ways are planted annually and the walkway is cement paved. I'll bring Mom next time and borrow one of their wheelchairs to take her around.

What a fun place to stroll around. There's so much to enjoy. Places to sit and just think. Beautiful views + bird watching if you're into that. Went during the Christmas stroll... but during the day since we didn't know about the night time event. It was fun to see all the Christmas trees different businesses and families put together.

Went to the area to visit our youngest granddaughter and we noticed this place on google maps. I would call it a hidden gem. It is free and very beautiful easy walk with very nice pathways. The views are amazing and the staff was very courteous. The swap blind is very cool. We did see one alligator swimming around. If you are in the area don’t miss this wonderful place.

I visited this garden in April 2024. It’s a lovely and peaceful place. First of all it’s free but it is also well-maintained. I was greeted when I arrived by a volunteer who gave me an orientation of the garden. This was a nice touch and something I haven’t seen at other gardens. Being from the Gulf Coast, I was familiar with most of the Vegetation at this garden. What made this garden special was the numerous benches spread throughout the garden creating areas of rest and reflection. I especially enjoyed the greenhouses and the elongated water wall fountain. My one suggestion would be to add more descriptions of the plants and trees. I walked along a long path bordered by trees, but I didn’t find out until the end that they were magnolia trees, as there were no descriptions until the very end. In any case, this is a beautiful garden and a wonderful place to visit.

I can’t believe this place is free to enter. It is so beautiful, so serene, so well-maintained, and such a surprise! The heronry blind is fantastic, and of course all the flora and fauna is a sight to be seen. Wonderful spot to get some steps in or meditate, or let the kids run off some steam. The scarecrow fest in Oct/Nov was lovely, we missed the Christmas display but will definitely catch it in the coming year. I hope the cafe can reopen soon, too.

I live right down the street from this wonderful place! I've been coming here for over a decade now. The workers know me by name here, that's for sure! If you're looking for a place to unwind and get away from all of the hustle and bustle of life, then this is the place for you! The workers and volunteers are so friendly, there are plenty of sitting areas all over, and the restrooms are very clean. Every time you go, there's something new that has grown and it has a different look and feel each time. I call it my Paradise and my Garden of Eden! My kids love it as well! Best hidden gem in this small little town of Orange. 😊❤️

We went for the Christmas light display, and it was absolutely beautiful! Such a fun evening, making memories with the family 🥰 The wait times were due to high volume for the holiday lights, and not indicative of normal working hours. Bathrooms are clean and spacious. Staff is friendly and helpful.

We played this course on 9/22/23. It was a challenging course but in great shape. Unlike Contraband !! We had a great experience, the staff were amazing! The bartender and the restaurant manager (I can't remember their nams) were very attentive, I had gotten heat stroke/dehydration. All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Hogan!

Drove to Lake Charles from Houston this past Saturday to drop some cash at the casinos. Made a quick albeit late 3:45 tee off time for me and my nephew. Pro Shop personnel, a young woman, was super friendly and professional. Pro Shop was clean and well stocked. The round cost less than $100 @ $80 something which was great. We teed off and were pleasantly surprised at how good the course condition was. From tee to green , well manicured and excellent shape. Somehow, we managed to play in just under 3-1/2 hours with no one in front of us and no one behind which is a dream...unbelievable really. The closing cart personnel came out and checked on us when we were on 15...it seems we were the last ones on the course...I think it was just after 7pm...sun pretty high in the sky....I told him we'd wrap it up quickly and he said no worries, take your time just checking in on you. Very nice guy! We finished up and were super happy...I may just skip Contraband Bayou from now on. I only wish you guys would tie Comps to the golf course so I can play golf while my wife gambles away our retirement....lol....Anyway, Kudos to the Golf Club and staff. Tim J

The course is great but not for $140. Our cart died on a hole and no one at the club house answered. I called the club house six times, the bar once and the casino once. We were passed by two groups until the other cart in our group got back from the clubhouse with the cart guy. No one answered at any of these places, thats pretty poor customer service if you ask me. When you pay that much for a round of golf you expect a much higher level of service than what was provided.
John Gay — Google review
I haven't played the course yet but I have been trying to set a tee time for 2 weeks. NO ONE WILL ANSWER THE PHONE OR RETURN CALLS!
Update: Finally set a tee time. The course was great. Fun to play. The people were the best part, extremely kind very helpful.
Only one negative to say is the carts could use some replacing or upgrades or something.
Otherwise, I highly recommend.

The golf course was awesome! It has a great layout and very pretty design. The holes are challenging. The greens were some of the best greens I’ve played on. They are fast and the lines are true. The views of the bypass loop over the river was very pretty also. The only drawback is for the price the carts didn’t have GPS in them. The staff was friendly to us and accommodating
B D — Google review
Don't expect them to give you any customer service after your round. I left my range finder in the cart after my round and have been trying for weeks to just get them to call me back about it. I leave messages or get a "We'll call back after we look in to it" and never get an answer. If it's gone, that's fine but I would love to know either way. Everything else about the course is moot at this point, for the high price you pay, they should be at least reasonably responsive if they ever want people to come back.

The L'Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles is a luxurious hotel that boasts of various amenities such as an outdoor pool, spa, dining options, golf course and shopping. The suites are highly recommended for their exquisite features like the ceiling shower. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere creates a log cabin feel upon entering. Guests can opt to eat at local restaurants but should definitely check out the spa and pool area during their stay.
The coffee is amazing! I think it's PJs coffee out of NOLA. The gaming is fun! Not sure if the payouts are as good as they used to be. There was a time I could bring a 1000 and leave with 3000. Nowadays not so much. Maybe just my choice of machines so take it as you like. Either way great casino / hotel with friendly staff and always something g fun to do!

Usually only stay in the suites here but was booked one with the really nice ceiling shower. Really enjoyed my stay, the table games are up to par. The staff was very friendly, all around good atmosphere! Made me feel as if I was in a log cabin when I walked in. I don’t dabble in eating here, I like to try local spots if/when I can. I can say if you stay here definitely try the spa and pool area! There’s also a quaint little bar near the entrance where they have live music!

Casino are very clean and fun. Restaurants are delicious. I have been to Casino a few times but this was our first time staying here since it was our anniversary. The reason for 3 stars is our reservation was for a king bed and upon arriving they notified us that they were out of king beds due to us checking in late and all king room were given to others who checked in before us. Pretty much first come first serve, so what was the point of my reservation. They did give us upgrade but the only upgrade was a view of the pool but still separate beds. After we checked out, I realized I left my pillow behind, the only pillow that I have found to help with my neck pains and sleep. I called to see if I can have my friend who was still there to pick up for me but the said I had to wait till the cleaning service turn it in at the end of the day. By the time my pillow was located, my friend had left so had to leave a message for Mrs. April, lost and found service, to have it mail to me. It's been almost a week and I have yet to hear back from any one after leaving a few messages. I am now having to struggle searching for the right pillow at different stores. Pillow was purchased from bed bath and beyond and no longer carry it :(
Update: Glad to say that after three weeks I received my pillow back from them.

Beautiful hotel and check in went good I thought. The room was clean, bed was great, but they are a little dated. After checking in on Monday I get a knock on my door at 11:20pm at night on Wednesday from Hotel staff. They was asking me to open the door and show them my ID. Needless to say I was very upset since I was here on work and was already asleep. I opened the door after calling the front desk twice. They said they had no one in the room in their system. I complained to management about this and they said a member of staff had moved me to another room in the system. I have no idea how this could happen and who thought it was a good idea to knock on a guests room at 11:20pm at night. I figured a call or note under the door to call or stop by the front desk would have been a better option. They did credit my room $100 for food and drinks for the mix up. The pool area is great and the resort feel of the hotel is great! Great restaurants on property and a few stores! Over all good experience!

I have been coming to L'Auberge Lake Charles since it opened. I've never had or experienced anything negative. I checked in 12/31 and after putting away my things in my room, went into the casino. I had received notification that I had xx amount of slot dollars and it was on my card. Well it wasn't on the card. I went back to my room to get my things and leave. Before i did, i sent my casino host a text explaining what had happened and i was mad. She said give me 10 minutes. After about 8 minutes she called me and told me the slot dollars were now on my card. Your casino host wasted NO TIME jumping on the problem and helping me out. I'm not sure if i am suppose to mention names but her name is Sandra Vasquez and I am honored, proud and blessed to have such an outstanding person as my casino host. Thank you.

Be aware that your belongings may be stolen from your room by an employee and when discovered, the resort may refuse to identify the employee. It's especially enjoyable when the resort doesn't reimburse you for the loss of your items.
If filing police reports after your belongings are stolen sounds like a great time, you've come to the right place. If not, consider staying elsewhere.

I didn't want to touch anything we were supposed to have a extra chair in the corner but nothing we called front desk and they did nothing to help!!! We waited over 45 minutes for our bag's to be brought up and the lady that brought them said ooh no this room is nasty and said we should definitely talk to a supervisor which we did but nothing again!!! We were going to stay 2 nights but Absolutely not we canceled the 2nd night and stayed at the Golden Nugget and my husband checked our bank and your nasty hotel charged us 3 different times so now we are fighting that!!! First, I would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff at the casino. In every area, the staff is very caring and goes the extra mile to help you. I fell in the bathroom and the staff was nice and helpful to me. They took excellent care of me. I felt safe being there alone and injured. I’ve been back since then, and the staff is still wonderful. My brother passed away in December. So driving to Lake Charles and staying to myself, I feel connected to him. This casino provides a safe environment with great rooms, good restaurants, and some slots that plays at times. I highly recommend it for single women and mothers.

Pretty but no fridge? Seriously?
I was traveling and needed a fridge. The only way that was going to happen was if I paid an extra $100 for a suite. And these rooms are not cheap
I asked about security in the parking lot and there does not seem to be any. Either park with valet or pray over your car when you leave it.
I had no issues at all, but saw some of the clientele and worried a little.
Gorgeous sunsets from the hallway, comfortable bed and great pillows.
Nice long lazy river with 2 pools.
Several places to eat inside the hotel.
Golf course was well manicured, as well.
Plenty of places to shop and eat in the area.

The location is very convenient, the rooms were nice although I'm told they are about to renovate them soon. we were there the last week in December, so we didn't get to use the pool area, but it was an amazing area with 2 pools and a lazy river. We decided to come to Lake Charles for a 2 day getaway for my birthday. Finally got into the room after 5pm. The casino is large enough although there were multiple slot machines that were not working. The main issue came at around 10pm when the fire alarm went off multiple times in our room telling us to evacuate due to a fire. So we quickly left the room and walked down 7 flights of stairs. There was no staff anywhere to direct us at all. We walked around the hotel to the front entrance and tried to get information from the front desk. They seamed clueless of what was happening. Then came back and said we would be told when we could go back up to our room. They did not know how this would be conveyed to us since there was no one there that knew what was happening. We walked around a bit and then we headed back to the elevators to the rooms. Again no one there to direct anyone if it was safe or unsafe to go back up. I now have serious questions about their safety protocols. So much for getting any sleep tonight. Very well considering just leaving first thing in the morning.

If you want a room lower than the cheapest hotel in town, this is your place. DO NOT get a smoking room even if you smoke. These rooms are beyond disgusting. They don't cater to smokers. They think it's alright to give you a room where everything is saturated with smoke. They don't even try to deodorize or clean the room for the next guest. When you leave, you smell like an ashtray.

We won a two night stay at this hotel in an auction. We had never even heard of Lake Charles but decided to make it a part of a multi-state road trip. When we arrived we opened up our curtains, saw the amazing pool and immediately extended our stay one night! The hotel itself is gorgeous and the service is amazing. J’Sean at the desk went out of his way to make sure we could stay in our room a third night and secured us an amazing deal, all with a sweet smile. Sydney, our cabana girl at the pool, was so sweet and gave us such great service during our time on the lazy River and at the adult pool. Yes, you heard that right. The pool is comprised of two pools, a lazy river and two hot tubs. There is a swim-up bar in the lazy river and a bar adjacent to the adult pool but Sydney took good care of us and brought our drinks to us at the pool!
We ate at Asia and Drago during our stay, both of which were surprisingly good for casino fare. We will definitely stay here if we are ever in the area again. The only negative I can think of is that there was no refrigerator in our room. I have gotten used to this in all other hotels so it was a bit of a surprise.

This is my first time here at this casino/Resort, if you can call it that. I'm extremely disappointed. Checked in on Thursday. Which we had to take a downgrade to get early check in. It was already 230pm and we arrived at 11am.
Secondly the whole time we were there no maid service. No fresh towels, no replacement of toilet paper, thank God they had kleenex in the room. No clean sheets, no trash take out, nothing.
Thirdly. None of the so-called amenities opened up until late afternoon, due to it being the off season. If it's the off season why aren't there any rooms available for those of use who flew in and wanted to rest a bit, it is the off season you told us.
So if your willing to spend your money on what you thought was going to be a luxurious weekend gambling and having some pampering, do not chose the L'Auberge Casino and Resort. They will disappoint.

I stayed over there 2 days for a business trip. First day someone steals my air-pods and fast charger with cable in my room while I was out of hotel. I fill out statement with hotel security and no-one turn back for update. I spend more than one hour to wait security to fill statement. I assume they just trow away my statement after I turn back. Funny part, Name of security lead is different than his badge name. How a hotel like that big, do not care about costumer. Looks like 5 star but cleanness and costumer care not worth one star. Stay away from for your health and security.

I only visited the casino for a short time. Many casinos in the US are non-smoking. Not this one. The employees are friendly but I couldn't take the smoke. My eyes burned and I had the smell of smoke in my clothes for several hours after leaving. I don't have a problem with smoking or smokers, but as someone who's worked in the industry, I would recommend a better ventilation system.

Great food options.
Love the service we received from Lee with bring drinks and checking on my husband and myself. He helped make our experience 100%
Eli checks IDs... And I get carded every time. But he is wonderful, he remembers me by name the rest of our stay every time my husband and I visit. Great staff keeps us returning time and time again.

I want to start by saying we were here two years ago and had the same opinions then. The grounds, lobby, casino, and restaurants are very nicely taken care of. Their attention to detail stops at the elevators, though. Once we got to our room, we were pretty disappointed. The air in the room stayed humid and damp the entire time, even with using the air conditioner. There were cobwebs on the windows and dust on the walls. The bathroom floor had not been cleaned before our check in. On our previous visit (2 years ago) the headboard had been peeling and falling apart. Their “fix” for this was an ill-fitting slipcover that looked worse than the original headboard. Our first morning, we woke up hearing voices coming through the AC vents. Our second morning, there was literal jackhammering happening either below or above us at 8am. I can’t imagine why someone would pay for a room here. They really need to pay attention to these things.

Absolutely loved my first time at L’Auberge! Our first room had a hot water problem and we were immediately switched into a better room. The setting inside the casino is very cozy. There are many, many games to choose from which I loved! Free drinks if you’re at a table/slot. All the cashiers/dealers/waitresses were super friendly. The food and drinks at the restaurants were great, too. Can’t wait to come back!

Did an overnight stay with my spouse to get away and have some fun, however, unfortunately it wasn’t. Absolutely zero wins, which I’ve never seen a casino do. We’ve traveled all over the US and this is literally the first casino we’ve been to that doesn’t give a dime after 300 and many machines. The room didn’t have garbage liners in either garbage bag and for some reason the temp was set to 60 and didn’t rise above 64 even when dialed to 70 and the walls are as thin as cardboard. We heard every single sound all night. We won’t be going back.

i’ve been coming to this hotel for years and this was the first year that i’ve been extremely disappointed in the service and the rooms. the bed was so disgusting there were stains on the sheets and our bed sheet was missing on one bed. the phone didn’t work so i had to call the front desk from my cell phone to have them replace it, which that wasn’t a big issue. then i went to the vending machine to grab a drink and it took my money but never got my drink which also sucked. the casino staff was so rude, the guy at the desk was snippy and was obviously not in a good mood. the casino was small and not impressed. spend the extra money and go to golden nugget, although the stuff there wasn’t any better either.

This place is as musty and crusty as they come. I remember thinking this casino was “high class” but it leaves a lot to be desired. The only thing better about this place than Golden Nugget is they have self service beverages. The machines are nasty and mostly broken here as well as the bathroom that smells like someone dropped a deuce and smeared it on the wall. I don’t ever want to come back here. I guess their heyday is over.

Very tight machines. There was a problem with my card and I let them know and they wouldn't fix the problem. It was saying no account. I didn't get points for playing. It is a beautiful casino, but customer service is lacking.
I absolutely love kids quest- I was hesitant about bringing my 2 year old here because he's pretty shy, but he ended up having a great time. They have ice cream, snacks and even simple meals like Mac and cheese for them, and it seems like a very safe place. I love that they have a Starbucks here too. Video blackjack is fun, and the slots are decent as well. I've been to a lot of casinos in my day and this one definitely did not disappoint. Will definitely be coming back.

Our stay here was fantastic from start to finish! We stayed in the Seven Clans Hotel thanks to a complimentary night we had available. Our room was clean, smoke-free and the bed was very comfortable.
We had dinner at Big Sky Steakhouse and it was absolutely delicious!! We tried the Lobster Mac & Cheese - just the right amount of lobster and super cheesy. I ordered the Lamb Chops with buttery mashed potatoes and asparagus - cooked to perfection and so flavorful. My daughter ordered the Cajun Seafood Pasta (crawfish, shrimp and crab meat) over angel hair pasta in a garlicky sauce - I snuck a bite just to try - yummy!! Decently priced in my opinion for the quality and amount of food that you get. Will definitely eat there again!
We arrived on a Saturday evening, place was crowded and the atmosphere was great. Seemed like people were having a great time. Lots of machines were busy but I was able to play a few of my favorites and got lucky for the most part.
Check-in to the hotel was very fast and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful!

I wish there were more amenities for people who don’t gamble. Pool was nice, but there were a lot of families with kids. I wish there had been an adult only pool. There is not a gym or spa on site. There is no shopping. Tennis courts are being changed to pickle ball. What do the non-gamblers get to do? The food was just passable. For the distance and the drive, I would stop in Lake Charles before driving this far. The rooms were nice and clean, so I was happy about that.

First time here. Very entertaining. Difficult to learn everything on your own.. but staff was readily available when needed. Will be better prepared next time as this was a trip done completely spontaneously, from and back to Houston in a span of about 6 hours. Everything was so modernized compared to everything seen on TV. Everything is digital and "tied" to a member(ship) card. No more falling coins....disappointed by that but had fun nonetheless.
Until next time...

Stayed there for three nights and four days. The Seven Clans Hotel was comfortable and clean. The Terrace Cafe serves meals throughout the day. Breakfast could improve by serving freshly cut hash browns and not frozen fried potato chunks. The chicken fried steak served for breakfast appeared to be frozen and fried. The Noodles Restaurant served a very tasteful sweet and sour chicken with steamed rice. The Casino and Bingo Hall were very clean and comfortable. Cellular phone coverage inside the Casino is sporadic. Security was always present and all employees were friendly and helpful. The beer was very cold. We had a great time. Thank you.

I love this!!
They have taken personal service up 100%!! I've been coming for years, and they are always cleaning in the Casino and working on their down machines!
The atmosphere at Coushatta is great and all of them work hard and are professionals at their job!
Thank you Coushatta for the great experience when I come down there to play! Rosharon TX!

Hubby and I drove over and met friends here- my first time at this location and it was a 10! The food was great and it is an easy casino to walk around in. We even won a little. Staff was very attentive! Also, attended a great concert, LITA FORD, while we were there. We had a blast and will return. While we didn’t stay at the hotel, our friends did and their suite was killer.

Currently staying in the chalets. It was not cleaned. Kids have class work to do and their Wifi is non existent. (I asked before hand about this). The cable is absolutely horrible, can't even sit to watch TV. No pots, no pans, absolutely nothing. BBQ pits are rusted and need replacing. Bugs in all of the window seals. Windows are so dirty cant even see the views. Blankets for the beds are only very thin sheets. Kids are so disappointed with this stay. If I had not already been charged we would have checked out the same night we checked in.

Remember to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking your room. They compare thousands of booking websites and typically will have rooms much cheaper compared to others! Thank me later on! This place is one of the most well known in the area. I have been staying here for a very long time. If you stay for a few nights you will love it I'm sure!
My family & friends come down a couple of times a year. We've enjoyed all of our stays. Usually we stay in a chalet but this time we stayed in an RV spot. Very clean & the showers & bathrooms were very clean & convient. We also enjoyed our time at the casino. We didn't win any money but we had a great time!

Wife and I go there often. Nice casino. Win more on busy nights. Free room after you've spent enough money. Good little get away. Kid quest could use an update and maybe just a big playground would be helpful but I really can't complain much. Maybe better WiFi in the actual casino.

It was my first time going to the Coushatta Casino Resort and I loved it. We started our day by the lazy river and pool. We got a cabana and the friendly staff Samantha made our day. She was attentive and made sure we got our drinks cold since it was a hot summer day. The casino had lots of different machines and the steakhouse had great food and service by Daisy. I highly recommend going.

This was our favorite casino for years and glad to see it is making a come back after being flooded not once but twice. We usually dine in The Terrace and our favorite server is Amber. She is excellent! Breakfast is always excellent with fresh coffee. Dinner we try different items and have been pleased with most of the dishes.
Their slot machines are varied with enough room to be comfortable. Like most places since COVID the housekeeping staff does not enter the rooms but will bring you anything you need by calling the desk. Some of the rooms need a deep cleaning.
We like the slots better at Coushatta than the casinos in Lake Charles but it is about an hour farther from Houston. That is why the lower rating for location. Watch the speed through Fenton!

Stayed in a great RV campground, very clean and kept up. As someone that can't be around smoking, Sunday I could not tell if I was in a smoking area or not great ventilation. Ate at 3 different restaurants ALL was absolutely Awesome service and food.
This casino is run and managed the way a casino should be.
Far better than most casino.
Will definitely return.

We ate dinner at the seafood restaurant. The food was good and the device was friendly. The casino was very smoky, so we only ate and left. The non-smoking area was very tiny in a small glass room. I liked the ideas of the wristband and red carpet for minors to stay on to get to the restaurants.

I read some of the reviews and thought that we would try it. We drove for 3 1/2 hours. We went to get our card's and the woman told me that I would get 5 dollars of free play, and if I gave her my email, then I would get an additional 5 dollars. So I gave her my email and received nothing after we played for at least 7 hours. I went back up there and talked to someone else and they told me that 5 dollars is all you get for your first time of being there. We went to a restaurant in there and the woman that seated us was not friendly at all. There was a lot of slot machines, alot of Buffalo slots, but as for some people saying that they are really loose was absolutely not the case for us or anyone else that was anywhere around us. If you think that you are getting a good payout of 5, 10 cents or maybe a dollar, if you are are lucky, then good luck to those people. Within the 7 hours of us playing, not one time did we see any employees wiping off any machines. There was so many slot machines that had other people's empty glasses just sitting on them. They couldn't throw their trash away that was literally 5 feet away. We don't care to go back. Absolutely the worst employees here. 😒 This casino does not deserve a 1 star.

Stayed one night at the RV park. Really nice park and very reasonably priced. Has a small lake you can walk around. Lots of grassy areas. Didn't win at the slots but I guess that goes without saying. It was still a fun time. Had a nice meal at the cafe.

I really enjoyed this casino. While I have not gambled on land before, this location was quite enjoyable. I enjoy the ability to pick up a soda as needed while also being able to order drinks when I want. My cell phone however does not work at the casino so I did after wander quite a while to locate my family, not the casinos fault. Just a heads up

We enjoy the casino and the variety of slot machines. The Terrace is a good place to eat with excellent service (Amber is terrific).
The disappointment is the room charge plus tax looks good until they tack on the resort fee. This was started after the flood and Harvey. They are struggling but this add of $10.59 per night seems double dipping. A better customer relations would be to just charge it up front with no surprises.

Absolutely zero payouts think I will try another casino after going here since grand opening and have never won anything bigger then a couple thousand, have spent more money here then any other casino and just tired of the no customer service and zero payouts so after many many years goodbye Coushatta, also it was freezing inside colder inside then it was outside guess they not only not paying out anything guess they to cheap to use the heater and not sure if anyone has ever noticed but they say they have these big drawings but if you look at the winners the amout they won does not even come close to the amount they supposedly give away bunch of crooks.

Had a great Valentines Day with my Sweetie at the Casino.
We spent 2 nights at the Seven Clans Hotel and was impressed by the service AND Security at the Hotel. I'm not a high roller but felt like I was being treated like one. Casino slots were fun. Eat at any of the restaurants and you will not be disappointed. We especially liked the moderate priced Terrace cafe for the menu
(Gumbo was GREAT) and excellent service.

Overall a great casino if you live within driving distance. A lot of people have big wins here but we have had no luck. That being said room's, casino and restrooms are all clean. Free drinks are nice and comps are fair. Plus you can use your comps on gas so even if you loose all your money you can still get home 😀. Oh and during the summer they have a great Waterpark area.

Casino has a lot of slot machines, the drinks came fast when you sing up for their advantage club and order on screen. It was fairly clean inside and out and we enjoyed our time there. There is a huge selection of different kind of games and we enjoyed doing roulette.

It's a casual place, no fancy restaurants or places to grab a quiet meal. Bring extra clothes as the casino is mostly smoking and after walking around. Mostly everything will smell of cigarettes. There isn't much to the area, so make sure you bring everything you think you might need. There is a golf course and a small water park.

I liked that it was spread out. Lots of machines. The payouts weren't bad. There's a non-smoking section but we didn't feel like we needed to play in there because there was never a smell of smoke. Nice place! We only went to the casino.

Living history museum with restored 18th- to 19th-century homes, plus a restaurant & live music.
****January 2022 Travel update****
Life happens so late posting this review. I must say everyone visiting Lafayette shouldn't miss vermillionville village and museum. Relatively quiet museum, showcased in historic houses(sometimes replica) that were once inhabited by influential families around here(e.g Mouton). Most of the houses have an employee from museum attending, dressed in historical garbs. They were the best part of this village as they brought life to history. My favorite people were the one (near trapper's cabin) who sang for us, and the sweet lady who demonstrate quilting live. Village includes a hall for event rental and a restaurant(which doesn't stay open too long)

This is a total must see in Lafayette! The historic village is made up of about a dozen of houses and most you can enter. There's usually a member of staff in the house, acting like the people who lived there and telling you about the house, their tasks and all the questions you might have.
It is great for all ages and also wheelchair accessible.
It took us about 2h to see and read everything and we had a great time!

What an amazing spot! I have been wanting to come for quite some time now, but haven't had the time. I am so glad I did. Make sure you give yourself a few hours to explore everything as there is just so much to see. There are handicap ramps to most everything. The water life exhibit was closed when I went, but that's ok. I look forward to coming back with friends. All of the employees were friendly and helpful. There were people at most of the spots to explain what was going on. This was just great and well worth the time to stop in and look around.

Really close to the Acadian Cultural Centre and a nice stop. $32 for 2 adults and 2 kids, so affordable.
Many positive things - many buildings well preserved like the school. But many others not so much. Good description of them in English and French which was great. Costumed guides providing great information and many thanks to one young guide who provided it in French! She is learning French and kudos to her for taking seriously her work and showing respect to Acadians and Cajuns. She was really good!
The great part was the jam session done my cajun musicians who were so generous and played so well! An amazing experience!
The restaurant Chez maman was great, jambalaya tasted good as well as the crawfish étouffé. Service was friendly and relax.
The less good parts - some building and sites were not well maintained but also quite dirty…like really dirty!
Did not find good information on the village itself. Good description of specific buildings but nothing about the village and its history. My apology if I have missed it but it is there, maybe it should be easier to find.
Restaurant is only open from 11am to 2pm on the Saturday we visited. We were lucky to be there during this small window.
All in all, a cool place to stop and learn!

A local recommended the restaurant here. I was trying the Cajun creole I had heard so much about. The food here was absurdly good. I had some seafood soup, etouffe, and grilled catfish which was recommended to me. I wish I could eat this everyday, and now I know why people want to live here, besides the super nice people.

We were there for a wedding. For an evening wedding, the village is enchanting. Pictures can hardly do it justice. The chapel holds about 100. The reception hall is very large and there is a stage. There was plenty of room for the buffet, tables, a bar and dance floor. The doors open wide. The wedding was perfect.

Stopped here on the way to New Orleans. Entry fee was inexpensive and there were a lot of buildings to see. It's self guided but there were plaques with interesting information at each building. It looked like they were all wheelchair accessible. We went on a Sunday so there was a live band and lots of people dancing in one of the larger buildings so that was fun.

Wonderful experience learning about the area and the different groups of people who combined to make Acadiana unique. Loved talking with each staff member sharing their knowledge and dressed in period costumes. Sitting Bear, Ms Thibadeaux, and the school master were all friendly and welcomed questions. It was a good educational site to visit. We loved the music, getting to see it live was great. There was only two living history interpreters when we visited on the weekend, but they we both good. The kids really liked pulling the ferry across the water! The restaurant was a bit of a let down. It was really busy when we arrived and they told us it would take longer than normal due to staffing issues, which we understand. After the place cleared out though, the service was still weak even though there was very few people in the restaurant. The long time spent at the restaurant took away from our time exploring the place. Food was good, prices were on the high side at around $15 per person on our ticket. All and all it was worth checking out. Next time I would probably pack my lunch and plan to also visit the National Historic site that is next door. If it's the only living history site you have been to it might be better too. We have visited quite a few and know that having more interpretation actors is possible.
More than 200 acres of flowers & trees featuring a Chinese garden plus a bird sanctuary.
What a AMAZING unexpected visit! Mr. McIlenny did a wonderful job creating this sanctuary, gathering exotic plants and trees.
The self-guided driving tour is easy to follow, with plenty of short trails to wander around and enjoy the peaceful gardens. You can download the free app to listen to the audio tour.
We didn't get to see alligators as it was still cold for them in February.
I think we spent over 2 hours and half in the park. It was getting dark when we left.
Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children. If you do the Tabasco factory the Jungle Gardens is included in your $12.50 admission.
I definitely recommend this visit!

Really fun place to explore. We had a lot of fun on the gardens, it has many beautiful features, and is well taken care of. Just a couple of suggestions if you plan to travel the many trails they have. You need to be aware that there's wildlife in it from free roaming alligators, snakes, as well as a lot of spiders, especially the golden orb spiders they are everywhere, although they are harmless they make big webs so watch your step, take plenty of water, some sun block and have fun

Don't miss this place if you're visiting Tabasco. This is a very well cared for showcase of beauty endemic to South Louisiana. It's an amazing place! You can easily spend 3 or more hours! There are no restaurants or restroom during the circuit, I recommend take a repellent and some water to drink on the way! You can park your car and walk or drive and make some stops, it's an amazing place but please be careful! Those that have children don't let them walk away alone, have some alligator, spiders and a lot of wild life, all very relaxing and don't disturb nobody, but don't make so easy! Definitely go, don't think twice because of this, just careful!!

If you're already there for the Tobasco tour, it's just across the street. There is plenty of alligator habitat and several varieties of bamboo and camellia. As you can see, the Buddha is probably the most well known attraction here but don't sleep on Bird City!

Did a couple’s 3hr photography shoot in May 2023. Tons of oak trees! Lots of nice shaded spots. Good location for portraits with a variety of backdrops: cypress tree swamp, oak trees, old barns, stone bridge & water features. Not a lot of flowers in bloom in May when I went. Great place for an outdoor Louisiana photo shoot. Make sure to bring water and go early or late… mid day is a hot.
If you’re into bird/wildlife photography saw hundreds of Great white egrets around at Bird City. Also saw an alligator, water snake, bunny rabbit and a variety of other birds.
The gift shop has cold A/C and nice place to pick up cold drinks and snacks before or after your adventure and they have restrooms as well. Other entire property is trash free and that is nice and refreshing.
Overall great place to go. Only downside, I have Verizon and cell service wasn’t great. Also, it’s Louisiana… expect some ants, horseflies & mosquitos. Bug spray is available at the gift shop.

Breathtaking. Magical and very soothing for anyone who loves nature and appreciates plants and varieties.
My husband and I walked it. Not sure if it was allowed but we didn’t see any signs that deterred that. We followed rules for where not to go but otherwise, we did the whole loop on foot and brought backpacks with lunch and water. Highly recommend doing that if that’s an option because the magic we felt and saw couldn’t have been appreciated fully had we been in a car.
We loved the off trail walking since there are so many walking paths that are still paved but off the beaten path. MUST DO. It was a beautiful experience! Definitely one of my favorite things I’ve done while living in Southern Louisiana.

A beautiful ride through beautiful grounds. Flowers bloom in early spring so time your visit accordingly. You'll see Bird City which is a sight to behold. There's also a nearly 1,000 year old Buddha, huge bamboo, alligators sunning themselves, and more.

Jungle Gardens is absolutely one of the most beautiful places to be if you enjoy being in nature.
This place was so very welcoming from the staff in the visitors center to the alligators that were out minding their business. (I think we saw at least 3.)
I truly enjoyed myself and the pictures taken were amazing. I can't wait to go back in the Spring. If you're ever in that area, please take some time out to stop by. You will forget all of your worldly issues as you're driving through enjoying the scenery.
The only thing I would say is that the bathroom was not clean at the visitors center. It could have been due to traffic all day but it could have been much cleaner.

I reserved the tickets ahead of time when I scheduled to do the Tabasco Factory Tour. My boyfriend and I walked the entire area. Next time, I probably would take a bike. 20240330 Nice driving tour. The Buddha Statue is my favorite, and I needed to get out of the car and walk down a path to see it. Be careful! The gator can sneak up on you, like one did to me. He snuck up on the grass when I was watching the fish jumping above the water.

Loved this place. Do yourself a favor; just get the tickets for the Tabasco tour; which ends by 4 (enter by 3:30) and you can ride or walk through Jungle Gardens on the same ticket. It was gorgeous. There was no toll to get on the island, just a friendly toll booth attendant who let us in, and directed us to the Tabasco and Jungle Gardens attractions. The Jungle Gardens attraction has a map; super easy to follow, just stay mostly to the right. There’s a small store and restrooms, a picnic area, and ample places to take pictures around the area. The Buddha and Bird City need a little walking in case you drive through; park and get out and walk.

Beautiful drive through garden tour. Also with options to park and walk the gardens perfect for picnics and very inexpensive when you pay for the Tabasco Avery Island tour the gardens came as part of the tour package it is a self tour so you can go as fast or slow as you want with plenty of places to take beautiful pictures. There are very clear markers for wildlife so do be aware and be cautious

This is such a great nature activity. Get in the car and drive around to see scenic areas or stop to get out and explore. We didn't see any alligators sadly but still really enjoyed our experience!

This garden was so beautiful! When you get your ticket to the Tabasco Factory, this is included. It is across the road from the factory and you can either drive or walk through it. It is very large, so driving may be easier. There are gators and turtles around the pond area.

These gardens are truly AMAZING!!! I highly recommend you come visit. You can drive in between the different stops (to dodge the mosquitoes). The view from the Buddha statue is wonderful! I recommend you find the bridge in the Venetian Garden, it looks like a Monet painting. The place is really well maintained.

The TABASCO Factory Tours offer a fascinating experience for visitors interested in the history and production of the famous hot sauce. The museum showcases Tabasco history exhibits and provides self-guided tours through various production buildings. Visitors can explore the greenhouse with pepper plants, see where the pepper mash is stored, and witness the bottling process. The tour offers detailed information throughout, making it an educational experience for all. Additionally, there is a gift shop available for souvenirs and restrooms for convenience.
We were too late to visit the museum and factory, but we got to wander around and saw some interesting facts.
Admission is $12.50 for adults and $9.50 for children (includes Jungle Gardens).
The country store has really cool Tabasco stuff. Definitely recommend the visit, especially the Jungle Gardens which was AMAZING!

Amazing experience! Have a long time that I dont visit a place like this one, very well care in all aspects! The price is incredible good and fair, $12 to go around all the island and to visit the Tabasco Factory, what a Amazing experience, for those that organize and take care, congratulations you are doing an amazing job!!! Really we loved! The only thing that I would say that could be better is the information about the restaurant, we was very excited to have our lunch, but with all the things to see we arrived there 3:20pm and it was closed already, looks like that close everyday at 2:30pm and there's nothing around to eat so, take a snack with you and eat before go around =)

I’m only posting a few photos because I don’t want to spoil too much. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. It was easy to schedule my tickets ahead of time online. I checked in and was able to go. Self guide tour is amazing! Along the way they provide all the info a normal tour guide gives. You just go your own speed.

This place was fun!! It was a sweltering day and could have melted us. The museum and factory tour were nice. The store had lots of Tabasco goodies. Then the drive on the grounds was lovely. Best thing was the Tabasco Ice Cream!!

It is self guided, don't bother with the app, it is kitschy and not useful. A short walk with some stairs, and the museum has lots of great info. be sure to try the all the flavors in the gift shop. The drive through the jungle garden after the tour was worth it.

This place is pure magic. The self guided tour is amazing. The food was great, we thought it'd be an expensive sit down place but it's actually a great "cafeteria style" restaurant with a bloody Mary bar!
The gardens are remarkable and both times I've gone, I saw the alligator!

If you aren't a fan of Tabasco Sauce now, you will be after checking this place out. It's about 2 hours from New Orleans, but it's an easy drive, The tour is self guided but easy to follow and there is some interesting facts along the way. Make sure no one is around if you want to lick the big salt rock! :) The General Store has some really cool Tabasco stuff - Don't miss sampling the Tabasco ice cream - seriously! The restaurant has some good snacks too! Your admission includes the 'jungle' which is a nice drive before heading back out to the ride home.

To learn not just about how Tabasco is made. But to learn about the family history was amazing. From how it all began. To the family history serving in the military from one serving with Theodore roosevelt and the rough riders to so many other stores of the family. And their contribution to the Jingle Garden. I had lunch there. It was very good. The whole experience is something that others need to do. I highly recommend you go visit.

What a fantastic experience!
As a chef I have used Tabasco for over 4 decades of cooking, it’s flavor, consistency and quality are the gold standard of excellence!
The factory tour was incredible and just solidified my passion and patronage of Tabasco brand products!
By all means if you take the tour you have to taste the pepper mash it will set your taste buds free!
The lunch we had was incredibly delicious! Every team member we encountered was friendly, hospitable and gracious!
If you’re a cook, chef, foodie or someone who just likes to flavor up your food I highly recommend this tour and visit to Avery Island!

In 1986 I came here with my future and current wife for our first kiss. Well, that might not have been the plan but it did happen.
We only went through the gardens and were eaten by mosquitoes and that has not changed.
This time I took the wife and 8 others friends from Europe with me to the Factory tour and all the rest the location offers and it was a top stop!
If you know anything about Tabasco (like it is on restaurant tables across the world) then the Factory Tour is so worth the time. We came out of the tour and all said “we gotta try some Tabasco!”.
Over to the restaurant and most of us had the “Sampler” and tried all the various Tabascos on the table. We had such a good time. The shop was next and shirts, seasonings and more were bought.
Then the Garden tour and it is beautiful but it was a hot October day at 2pm and most animals were likely hiding away but they are wonderfully maintained.
This is a long haul from New Orleans (7 hours round trip) but we stayed the night before in Lafayette which made the trip so nice. The swamp tour on Lake Martin was full of animals and at least 50 gators as well.
I would tell anyone who has some interest in where this global hot sauce comes from and the remote existence it has today.
Think about it; every bottle of Tabasco, anywhere in the world, came from this location. just wow. 😯

Great experience for Tabasco fans. Staff was very friendly and always willing to help.
Make sure you leave enough time to hit the gift shop (closes at 4pm) to load up on unique items and sauces.
Highly recommend stop if you are in Southern Louisiana/Lafayette area.
If you have time, also get the jungle gardens pass located at the facility. This is the "old" property and homestead of the McIlhenny's.

What a great history lesson. Plenty of parking. Tickets are a bit pricey. The restaurant closes early, so we didn't visit. The self guided tour was pleasant and offered many visual resources. The Jungle self driving tour was very relaxing and offered many nature picture opportunities.

This tour was amazing. It was self guided and loved interacting with the staff. Everyone was extremely friendly and engaging. We bought a bunch of things from the gift shop. I do wish you could buy the stuff online also. The restaurant was also amazing the sampler was totally worth it and the egg rolls were to die for. Will definitely come back again.

Loved Avery Island and the Tabasco factory tour, but the highlight of the visit was the Jungle Garden tour. It's such a beautiful place and we could have spent hours going through the gardens. Saw my first ever alligator! Then saw several more after that. If you're ever in the area, this is a must-do attraction.

Came with a good friend and our teen kids and had a blast. Staff was so informative and friendly. The culture of this company is the envy of every company. I asked several employees why they work there- and if they enjoyed it. Each response was "I love it., or "We're a family".
The Jungle Gardens cannot be skipped. the McIlhenney family did this land a service.
Recommend this place 11/10.

This place is a fun, exciting place to visit and very rich in history. There is a gift shop with restrooms. The tour is self guided with detailed facts and information all throughout. You get to see the greenhouse with some examples of the pepper plants and experimental plants, too. Also, the actual barrels where the pepper mash is kept and the factory where it's made, bottled, and sent to the world. There's a lot of walking involved. There's also a restaurant, but that's not included with the regular tour and should be purchased separately. All in all... I enjoyed myself very much.

So glad we went. Much better than I ever expected. Self guided tour was awesome, got to see pretty much everything. The museum, gift shop, and restaurant we’re all very good. We followed up with a jungle tour, which also was incredible. Pretty much a half a day experience, A great bang for the buck.

This is such an interesting, important and fun piece of American history and truly unique in the present age. We loved the brief, self-guided tour and saw some truly fun exhibits in the museum. Not to mention all the cool stuff for sale in the gift shop with the iconic logo, of course.
The Jungle Gardens were extensive, spectacular and serene and with no rush to get around, just a beautiful, leisurely tour. Lots of photo ops or just sights to take in and marvel at in your own time.

We enjoyed our visit, it was nice to see where our favorite hot sauces are made and bottled. It was a Sunday so the production line wasn't running.
The tour numbers on the virtual tour did not match the numbers on site.
The store has a tasting section where you can taste about a dozen different flavors of Tabasco. Plenty of souvenirs are available, as well as Tabasco in a variety of sizes and flavors

Incredible self guided tour of the complete Tabasco production operation. One of my lifetime favorites and I got a detailed view of the whole process of how it's made. Very clean grounds and facilities. Great nater tour also. Great gift shop. We really enjoyed it. I recommend it for everyone.

Was down in Louisiana for a few days and did the Avery Island Tabasco Tour as well as the Jungle Gardens tour. As a fan of Tabasco, it was nice to get a history lesson as well as see where it’s made. It’s a self guided tour, about an hour. They have a cool restaurant there as well as a gift shop with great merch. Come stop by and check it out next time you’re in Southern LA.

Hot sauce variations only available from the factory and Tabasco flavored soft serve ice cream varieties available to taste in the gift shop are just two of the highlights from a tour of the location. Kids and grown ups would enjoy a visit here.

This factory was great! There were numerous areas to view and the history of it was amazing! Even if you don’t like Tabasco, it is still a neat experience to see how they make it. (In the gift shop, the chili mix is so delicious! It was so good, I bought 2)
Shawn was excellent, informative, safety conscious, and fun. Local boy who grew up on the rivers. Knows the area well. Made sure we saw lots of critters. Comfortable boat. Recommend sitting toward the back so you can ask questions and hear the answers. Also bring a hat because of sun and a pair of binoculars. Highly recommend.

Shawn was the best tour guide you could ask for. I mean the man knows his stuff! We went two times; one in the late afternoon and the very next day late morning. I would definitely suggest going before it gets too hot or too cold. The 10am - 12 seems like a really good time to see the basking this time of year. Shawn informed us on so many things I couldn't keep up he really enjoys what he does and it shows. You can't beat the price and the knowledge you get and the view...what a view! This is a small local business and thats who we like to support. The other companies we called did cost more and it seemed like it would have been a rushed experience. We are so glad we chose Country Cajun swamp tours and will be more than happy to recommend and return when we are in the area.
Thanks again! It was an amazing tour by an amazing guide that has generations of knowledge and experience!

Fantastic tour on this beautiful swamp. My kids (and me) were so enthralled that they lost count of all the alligators spotted. Our guide was both hilarious & informative; through personal stories and educational tidbits you could tell just how much he loved his home. This was definitely our favorite day of vacation on our week-long Louisiana roadtrip.

Sean was simply the very best tour guide! Super knowledgeable about plant and animal life and clearly cares about taking care of our planet. He was extremely skilled at navigating around trees and kept us laughing with his jokes.
We were happy to see all the wildlife we did - gators, eagles, swallow tailed kites, black bellies whistling tree ducks, eagles, herons, and so much more - & felt privileged to even get to see a nest of duck eggs! We heartily recommend Cajun Country Swamp Tours and Sean!

Mrs Wendy gave us the BEST sunset swamp tour experience for our first time in Louisiana. She knows Lake Martin front to back, & has so much knowledge about the beautiful Cypress trees, the wildlife, & even local recommendations for dinner. We've been on 1 other swamp tour, on an airboat..but Mrs Wendy gives a much more personal trip, gets you close enough to see the gators, & even let us borrow her binoculars for some a bit further out. Thanks so much for such a phenomenal trip!!!

Firstly, email them. Quickest way to be in contact with the company.
Secondly, Ashley was very sweet to us and worked it out for our schedule to do the tour.
Thirdly, Corey knew his stuff about the swamp. He gave us an outstanding tour despite the water 16 inches lower than typical. We had encounters with several alligators of varying sizes, saw so much natural beauty, and enjoyed the tales he told.

Fantastic! So much more than just gators. Our guide was so knowledgeable about all the animals and birds, the plant life, the different areas of lake/swamp/bayou.
They use a quiet motor so it doesn't disturb the wildlife and the flat bottom boat got us close to everything.
The scenery is simply stunning.
It's a family run business and you can tell they have a great love for what they do.

Brett the bird man was a Fantastic guide! His love for the job and excitement to see the wildlife made the trip very enjoyable! We saw 6 gators of varying sizes and tons of interesting birds like rose spoonbills. The trees in the lake are gorgeous, this is exactly what we hoped a Louisiana swamp tour would be like! Sunset was a perfect time for a tour, beautiful! Thanks brett

We called at the last minute on Mardi Gras Day seeking a nature based entertainment and they accommodated us. They even waited an extra 5 minutes for us to get there. Shawn was an excellent tour guide with his charming Cajun French accent and vast knowledge of Lake Martin and the swamp Flora and fauna. He skillfully guided the skiff through groves of cypress trees draped in flowing ribbons of Spanish moss. We saw lots of alligators, many varieties of turtles, snipe's, egrets, herons, wood ducks, turkey vultures, geese, and many more gamebirds than I can remember.

Now you’ve heard of the Louisiana swamplands and your mind has run wild with scary imaginings so you might as well make the trip and brave this undiscovered kingdom of beauty and violence. And if you do, let Champagne’s Swamp Tours get you there. Placed keenly along Lake Martin this place is strategically docked so that you can both easily locate it and experience the swamp effectively.
Did you know that alligators turn on themselves? Have you seen these reptilian cannibals feed on each other? You might, while safely in one of Champagne’s boats. Does the raptor perch before it hunts or will he search for prey from the skies? You may find out here.
Champagne’s has snacks and restroom facilities. They are reasonably priced on tours and offer souvenirs that some of the young ones might appreciate. The staff is helpful, sometimes witty and always informative. I recall being a little confused on where to park because coming from the city, we usually only park in designated areas - but it worked out.
I’ve been in deserts, both high and low, climbed pyramids and stepped on the bricks that made Nineveh. I’ve fished off the Yucatán and kissed the Blarney Stone - but this tour I did with loved ones, this tour I did with family. This tour is something you need to do.

I would say that this was the best $25 that I've spent recently. It's ran by a cajun family complete with heavy accents. We saw dozens of gators, lounging, swimming, and diving. There were plenty of birds and turtles as well. Our boat could hold 18 people but wasn't full or crowded. The captain was courteous and informative, but still managed to throw in a bit of humor. I highly recommend this tour.

They are a great bunch of people, simple boats and good knowledge. Jason our boatman was great.
Remember they have no free water, so carry your own. Also carry bug spray. I got "swamped" by bugs(sorry for the lame pun). Pam the owner lady was also knowledgeable about things and did not hesitate to start up a conversation. Their office is pretty non-descript and they accept credit card for a significantly higher cost.

Absolutely wonderful. The swamp is stunning with plenty of old cypress rooted in the water. The view are incredible. I wish the owner would have accepted to open to shades on the boat because it was so sunny but he didn’t want, disappointing when it’s 100F… also as much as I love having close encounter with animals, I am not a big fan to disrupt their life. We spent time chasing baby alligators close to their nest…not needed. We saw plenty of birds, alligators,…but the best remains the “floating forest”

I visited this place the last weekend in July 2023, and our visit here paddling in a canoe for the first time (for me) was the MOST INCREDIBLE, FUN, AND PEACEFUL EXPERIENCE, EVER!!!
A BIG PLUS IS THAT THE SUPPORT STAFF "MONITORS" THE AREA AS THEY ARE GOING ON TOURS WITH OTHERS--SO YOU HAVE A FEEL OF NOT BEING ALL ALONE.
IT was $80.00 to rent a canoe for two people for two hours of paddling and photo taking of nature and each other.
The wild life and beautiful cypress trees will have you wanting to come out to Lake Martin ALL of the time!!!!
I'm a native of south LA and never experienced the swamps this way.
The owners are nice.
PLEASE OBEY THE RULES AND BE BACK WHEN THEY ASK YOU TO RETURN!
YOU WILL BE CHARGED EXTRA FOR NOT RETURNING ON TIME. THEY EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH!!!!
Great place to go to "test the waters" before going at it on your own.

We had an awesome experience! I'm an earthy gal and I'm so happy the tour was respectful of nature. Our tour guide Jimmy was amazing, super knowledgeable, and was a nice and sweet guy all around. We kept enough distance and we simply observed and learned a ton. I called in the afternoon and was able to get a reservation same day with a nice and sweet woman on the phone. We learned a lot about the local species of plants and animals, and saw a variety of things. We saw several alligators of all sizes, two mama alligators with their babies, woodpeckers, osprey, many different bird nests, and more. It was beautiful and a very peaceful experience for my husband, son and I on our short trip to Louisiana. Highly recommend!

If you're looking for an authentic, exciting, and educational experience in the heart of Louisiana's swamp country, then look no further than Champagne's Cajun Swamp Tours. From start to finish, this tour company exceeded all of my expectations and provided me with an unforgettable adventure.
First off, the guide (Brandon) was knowledgeable and passionate about the environment and wildlife of the swamp. He was able to answer all of my questions and provide fascinating insights into the history and culture of the region.
Secondly, the tour itself was breathtaking. From the moment we boarded the boat, I was transported into a world of beauty and mystery. The scenery was stunning, and we were able to see all sorts of creatures, from Alligators to Osprey, up close and personal.
Thirdly, the staff went above and beyond by giving us recommendations for local food spots in the area, and they allowed us to park our RV overnight!
Overall, I cannot recommend Champagne's Cajun Swamp Tours highly enough. If you're looking for an adventure that will leave you with lasting memories, then this is the tour for you. I would give this company 5 stars without hesitation. Thank you, Champagne's, for an incredible experience!

Loved this place.
Warning! Make sure you arrive 20 min before your reservation!! They will leave without you! Also when making a reservation, tell them how many kids you have as prices vary based on age. We made the mistake of booking for a 1 year old. Normally they would have charged us the 1 year old as an adult.. but they made an exception. We also had two people who couldn't go.. so we had to pay for the two people anyway. Might sound unreasonable, but if you think about it, they could have booked 2 more people on the boat. Tour was amazing and worth it. Would go again! 1000%

Oh come on folks!
I grew up in New Orleans. I went to school at LSU, Baton Rouge. I have taken people on many a swamp tour but never on Lake Martin.
I do not know about the other tour operators on this lake but this is like shooting fish in a barrel. Our guide took my group of 10 around the swamp and after the 30th gator some were saying “he was a bit small”. We saw at least 20 more.
Plus the vegetation and the birds we saw made this hour a remarkable one. The photos I uploaded are just from a phone, so no fancy camera here. They might not show all the detail we saw on our tour.
Highly recommend! Yes there are toilets which were helpful. Yes there is a picnic table under the huge oak tree which we also made ample use of. Yes we booked ahead using their website and yes that was simple and easy to do.
If you are in the neighborhood of Lafayette or visiting the Tabasco factory then I highly recommend a pass by this place. We toured at 3pm in late October. And yes, it was unusually warm but the reptiles were out sunning as expected. Top experience.

We five booked a trip with Kim, Sr. What a hoot! And the terrain was pretty terrific as well. Good, safe boat, even girded against “flying carp”, that can “kill you” according to Kim. Never heard of such a beast, but he had the conscientiousness to plan - plus keep his insurance costs down! Truly loved the experience. Highly recommended. Ask him about Joan Rivers!
Best in Spring!, but he makes it worth it even in late January.

When I read Kim was a veteran I knew which tour we were using, we support veteran owned businesses. Kim and his son were great. They were both very knowledgeable of the area and wildlife. They use outboard motor vessels not airboats, so you are able to hear their stories about the area and enjoy the sights and sounds. We will be back in the spring.

This tour is amazing! Anyone in this area should go. Rain or shine. We saw some beautiful birds and lots of alligators. They do not use air boats so it is quieter and you get to enjoy the wildlife because they aren't scared off. Kim is very knowledgeable about the area and really cares about the Bayou and the animals living in it. He also really cares about his customers as he has installed nets on the sides of the boats to protect you from jumping carp. They are all over and several hit the boat. These fish are large and can seriously hurt people but you won't have to worry about it here.
It was raining during our tour but they have ponchos for you to wear and we were on a boat where you could sit inside so you wouldn't even be in the rain.
A side note, Kim is a Veteran and so are several people in his family, all the more reason to take this tour.

Our second time out with these folks & the experience was as excellent as our first. Kim Sr. & Kim Jr. are knowledgeable about all wildlife in the area and very respectful of them. They are experienced at guiding wildlife photographers and seem to know the whole basin without having to reference a map. Can't wait to go again!
Antiques-filled rooms & rustic cottages in a 1796 plantation home featuring upscale dining.
Wonderful experience! Visited over 20 years ago and although I didn't think it was possible, it's even better now! Beautiful brand new rooms, turn down service, helpful staff, beautiful grounds, nice breakfast and the tour of the house was fantastic! Restaurant is closed on Mondays so we had to go elsewhere for dinner but even that was lovely. Highly recommend!

Recently took a family vacation to La. We stayed at the Myrtles one night. The customer service is great, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The tour guides are pretty good. And they all have their own personal stories that add to the tour. The beds are surprisingly comfortable. I expected the vintage furniture to be less so, I was wrong. Wether the place is haunted or not is debatable but we really enjoyed the experience. We may make this a yearly destination.

The staff is amazing. All so gracious. The rooms are well kept. The on site restaurant is fantastic as well as the small café. The place is beautiful and so comfortable. We did have a couple of things happen that we consider a ghostly encounter. It was great. We will return again.

Didn’t stay over night even though wish we did. Came for the day tour then stayed for night tour. Both were amazing. Beautiful place to see, people were great, and history was interesting. Loved the Ghost stories. Tours were only $15 each. We so worth it.

Our stay was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very very accommodating and friendly, and the restaurant/coffee is to DIE FOR. I will be back just for another iced mocha latte with oat milk and to dine again at their restaurant. They also keep the property and historical features of the home clean and properly landscaped which was a huge bonus. It wasn’t scary, we stayed in one of the original 1796 room’s and it was very comfortable. The bed was amazing and they had AC in each room which is nice for the LA summer heat. Overall, the place was beautiful and worth every penny spent.

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to stay at one of the rooms inside the house, unfortunately we did not experienced any paranormal events but it was still a lovely establishment. If you're looking for the Paranormal experience than that would be at one of the rooms in the house which are obviously much older and there's no tv, lack of plugs etc. Beds were extremely comfortable. We didn't get the opportunity to peek into one of the other rooms not attached to the house and those are over the top amazing looking & I personally would recommend one of the newer rooms

As someone who deals in hospitality when I go to something like this and the ground staff of the most kind and amazing people ever, makes me aware at what great leadership they must have. Everyone has been so sweet and kind. We enjoyed ourselves very much and I would recommend to anyone who gets the opportunity to come, to come and relax and take in the beauty and serenity this place has to offer. BY the way, the guy blowing the walking path off this morning needs a raise, he was amazing.

This was such an amazing place to spend the night! I know it's changed a bit since i stayed but i want to highly recommend this to anyone that is intrigued about the location at all. The grounds and architecture are absolutely stunning, and having the ability to roam the grounds while staying is so surreal. I walked the grounds both the night of and at sunrise, and it was and not only peaceful and serene, but there's a sense of wonder and a lot of learning to be done. Everyone i interacted with was full of information and not only did i stay in a beautiful room (the doll room, for the record) but learned a great deal about the history of the plantation and grounds.

I am into all things spooky so of course I had to book a stay at one of America’s most haunted homes! Unfortunately, I didn’t see any ghosts, but I did hear tons of ghost stories! I stayed on a Tuesday night so sadly the restaurant was closed but the breakfast was good! The coffee shop has the best hot chocolate and yummy pastries. Connie gave the day time tour and she was amazing! They also do not do the evening ghost tours on Tuesdays, but I booked a private one and Alyssa was awesome! I even got to speak to the night caretaker who filled me in on some guest stories! I stayed in the Woodruff suite. Everything was clean and beautiful. I was so sad to leave this place! The grounds are also gorgeous! Staff is beyond kind. Hope to go back again one day!

The property is beautiful and I definitely want to come back to stay in one of the rooms. Staff is very friendly. The day tour was ok. Our guide was fantastic, but our group had people coming in late, phones going off, and kids who kept interrupting her. Not the fault of the guide at all, just our luck of the draw. Next time we will opt for the evening tour.

I had an absolutely wonderful time! Stayed with my friend over Halloween 2023. The staff are all amazing and sweet. They really make you feel welcome and even the ghosts were nice to us! The tour was fun and informative and don't even get me started on how delicious the restaurant is!

Stay at The Myrtles Plantation if you are in this area! It's fabulous. All of the staff were wonderful. We enjoyed the ghost tour but alas, we didn't see any spirits. The only thing I felt was lacking was the breakfast the next day. Not my cup of tea. But the fine dining restaurant there was great! Make a reservation!

Very disappointing tour. We arrived on a tour bus. No order of arrival was established so others arriving later were given the very brief tour before us. We rode frothy-five minutes, waited an hour and had an overcrowded tour lasting fifteen minutes before our forty-five minute return drive. There are other sights more inclusive and more thorough with less travel. The landscaping and grounds were beautiful so at least our long wait was rewarded with that.

Remember to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴏʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ when booking any stay. This web site will compare countless booking web sites and typically will have rates a lot cheaper compared to others! Thank me later! This hotel is one of the most well known in this area. I have been coming here for a long time. If you decide to stay here you definitely won't be let down.
Gorgeous place! The staff was great, the food at Restaurant 1796 was amazing and the ghosts did not disappoint! We stayed in the Judge Woodruff Suite which was nice and private! The bed alone was beyond comfortable! We found that one spirit there loved being invited to join us for a late night card game in the upstairs parlor!

Great food and Tours of the Myrtles plantation!! Loved it all so much. The restaurant has absolutely amazing food and a fantastic atmosphere. The tour of the plantation home was extraordinarily interesting and had a lot of history and historical artifacts inside. Our tour guide has been working there for many years and had extraordinary knowledge of everything in the home and all the stories and lineage pertaining to the owners and caretakers of the home. The grounds are very nice and you can walk all through them freely on trails. The cabins look amazing to stay in, however I did not stay in one. The hotel looks lovely. I would love to stay there as well but didn't have time. I would go back in a heartbeat. 😍 Fabulous place to visit.

This was our second tour but our first night/evening tour. We did not stay the night. We enjoyed our tour guide and experience as always! I felt a gentle tug on my pants twice while in the locked bedroom that they say Chloe has taken a liking to. The only disappointment this time was that we took my daughter for her birthday and she was really hoping to shop at the store and couldn’t because when we arrived for the tour it had already closed, and when we left it was closed. The other couple with us asked, at the end of the tour, if they could go in the shop and they were told no bc it was already closed. I feel like you should be advised that evening tours don’t include the restaurant or gift shop areas. So heads up if you want access to those things go during the day I guess. If you haven’t been you definitely need to.

My husband and I did an evening tour with Rainy Day, and she was absolutely fantastic! Very knowledgeable with a great personality for the role. She made it amazing!
We stayed in the William Winter room and had the sensation of a child crawling into our bed, with the feeling of someone sitting on the bed all night long. Overall super cool experience!!

Iv been coming to stay at the Myrtles for about 20 years now. Iv stayed in almost every room, and the original slave quarters, which burned down many years ago. I brought my husband and best friend (who have never been). I will say, that even though the grounds are still beautiful, I am VERY DISAPPOINTED, that after the original restaurant and quarters burned, they were replaced with condos! Not at all like it was previously.
We stayed in the Caretakers Cottage, which has also been updated since my last stay.
If you need to do maintenance, or renovate slightly, please do it in the time period of the plantation. Otherwise, it just looks like a bed and breakfast without the mystique of what happened in all the rich history of the Myrtles.
We did get some amazing pictures, and the tour was fine. But for those of us who have been telling stories of our experiences for decades, it was disappointing.
I’m glad my husband and best friend and her husband had a great time.

Absolutely love The Myrtles- I’ve stayed the night in 4 different occasions, so clearly I keep going back for a reason. Love the Southern Hospitality, the ambiance of the grounds, and this go round I was able to check out the coffee shop and had dinner at the restaurant! Will be back for the night your soon! Also the gentlemen behind the bar were awesome! Made dining alone not as awkward as you do have the option to eat at the bar! Thanks Barrett and Jude!

Stayed 2 nights as a birthday gift, in the garden rooms. Booked to late to be in the main house during this time of year. The room/bed very welcoming, clean and comfortable. I do wish there would have been a mini fring to keep drinks.
We walked the grounds numerous times, which are lovely, even at 3am.
Coffee shop(Elta) was good for small food and coffee items.
We felt safe and comfortable here but so many people took the charm away. It feels overly commercialize..
As of yet, no super natural experiences. With so many people I can't see how anyone would.
Also, I suggest reading America's Haunts article before coming so you can take in all angles of the plantations history.
Overall, perfect stay. You'd never have to leave the grounds, as everything you need is here.

Overall, the property was beautiful. We didn’t stay the night but did the tour. The only thing I would change is the tour time, it was very short and we didn’t get to see the full house or property, although you could do a self guided tour and see more. I didn’t see or sense anything paranormal but the portrait of the little girl that passed was pretty creepy - where when painted half her body is alive and the other was painted after death and you can visible see the difference. Overall it was a great time and the food/drinks were really good with great prices!

We stayed in a garden room and the room was beautiful and clean . The ground are gorgeous . Multiple photo opportunities. The tour was very informative. Raney did a great job. We did the day and night tour. The inside of the main home is beautiful but very creepy. If you are staying on the property. Skip the day tour and just take the night tour . They are similar but the night tour is better. We didn't see any ghost but we loved it and would stay again.

We stayed in the Josephine garden room. The room was beautiful. Comfortable king size bed, large smart tv, in room coffee maker, beautiful couch and chair to relax in. The bathroom was beautiful with a large shower and had all the supplies you'd need with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hair dryer. Our only complaints would be the lack of water pressure/water was warm (not hot) and the room is next to a noisy event space (where staff were cleaning up and playing loud music around 11 pm).

The Myrtles is a beautiful hotel, grounds and restaurant in St. Francisville, Louisiana. Staff were friendly and helpful, the tour of the plantation house was fun, dinner was very good. Our room -- the Josephine -- was quite attractively decorated and furnished. I can't think of anything that could be improved. We highly recommend this place and would eagerly stay there again.

Took my son to New Orleans for Christmas vacation and stopped at The Myrtles Plantation on our way home. I’ve been fascinated with its history since hearing about it on TV many years ago. Our experience was exceptional! From the check-in process to checking out, our stay was delightful. We stayed in the Caretaker Cabin, which is well-appointed, cozy, and relaxing. We enjoyed the night tour of the house and its history. Laney was amazing and brought her stories to life with her amazing personality. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious, and our server was knowledgeable and professional. We toured the property often, which is incredibly beautiful, and even caught what we think is an entity (see photos).
The only moment of dissatisfaction was with breakfast. The process for receiving our meal was confusing and unpleasant. Limited menu choices and seating. The servers seemed less than willing to assist.
Overall, visiting The Myrtles is a must if you enjoy the hospitality of an old-fashioned Southern plantation with an incredible history complete with ghosts! Enjoy!

I was so excited to stay here after learning about the Myrtles Plantation almost all my life. It was almost surreal that I was able to stay inside the house. We stayed in the David Bradford Suite. Great size room, bathroom, living area and sole access to the wrap around porch which was nice. This only allowed us more time to take pictures through the windows. This room also has no TV and limited access to plug ins. This only was an issue when Chloe, one of most active spirits, wouldn’t stop moving her chair. This room is directly connected to the office or the room with “Chloe’s corner” in it. I definitely wasn’t able to sleep and this is normal for me when staying in creepy places like this. You could definitely hear her moving her chair all night long. I was also grabbed and heard other things among the night. Keep in mind, the manager did tell us that there was only one other room booked inside the house that night on the other side of the house. This house is creepy, both tours are great and creepy. Rainy was an amazing tour guide and was very knowledgeable. She is just as scared to stay in the house as I was by the way. She’s only stayed there once and never has again. The breakfast was good and the grounds are beautiful. If you want a scary experience, stay in the house. Respect and talk to the spirits. They can hear you and will respect you back. Definitely stop by if ever in the state. I am so thankful I was able to visit this beautiful plantation!

We learned of this plantation while staying at The Myrtles Plantation down the road. So glad we came here! The house and gardens may be my new favorite!! The house is gorgeous, with stunning furniture throughout! The gardens are extensive! It was so pleasant to walk throughout the garden and stumble upon a statue or fountain here or there. The potting shed was just what it ought to be and the tools were smartly hung up high on pegs. I tried to envision walking here back in the day and how beautiful it must be when everything is in bloom! Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this plantation. I just wished they had lodging here and would suggest that they put in some cabins for people to stay. I know I would love to do that!!

A MUST SEE PLANTATION.
We visited late May. I'm from England Marlene from Iowa. We toured the grounds then took the official tour. Our tour guide was excellent.I was amazed to learn ,back in the day the Plantation employed it's own doctor on site. We found it hot being outside for more than 30 minutes yet the slaves sometimes walked up to 7 miles before starting work! We didn't realise THE LONG HOT SUMMER, starting Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward was filmed 35 minutes away in Clinton, LA.Otherwise we would have visited there as well.

Beautiful grounds!! Those are definitely a must see, the tour of the house was neat but I don’t have to see it again. The stairs inside hurt my knees going up so I don’t know if an older person would do good with it. Very very beautiful property though- we walked through it for over an hour.

My wife not absolutely loved it. So much of this house is original including the furniture. It is amazing. We have toured dozens of plantations and this is one of the most well preserved. You can tell so much money has been put into the restoration. Excellent job and reasonably priced. Currently owned and ran by the state of Louisiana. At time of this review it is $12 per adult for the house tour. Well worth it. Beautiful gardens. I recommend February or March when the Camellia or azaleas are blooming.
The Louisiana's Old State Capitol is a museum dedicated to the history of Louisiana politics and features period artifacts related to state government. The building is located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, making it an iconic landmark in the state. There is no charge to visit the museum, and there is even a children's room for your minions. If you can spare $3.
This was my first time to visit & I am a Louisiana native. Now that I've taught our state history twice - I appreciate this amazing place a lot more. Unique architecture+ a unique background make for an interesting visit. I had a feeling it would be enjoyable & it exceeded my expectations!

The only downside is a lack of parking; I recommend getting here early so you can guarantee a spot.
Amazing stained glass upstairs. Downstairs has a very interesting room detailing the history of the various buildings that have been the Louisiana capital. Another interesting room detailing the restoration of this capital building. Also, they have a small alcove in one of the congress rooms upstairs with kids activities; the ones when I went were actually fun. They have a nice gift shop too: I found an awesome brown pelican plush there! Out front off to the side is a box car covered in the coats of arms of all the provinces in France; it's a bit more than that, but I'll let you see what it is for yourself. If you're in Baton Rouge and you're into history, I highly recommend you come here.

Louisiana's Old State Capitol sits on a hill overlooking the Mississippi River in downtown Baton Rouge. Completed in 1849, the castle-like fortress has been restored to its original grandeur. It houses both traditional and state-of-the-art interactive exhibits and a multi-media film presentation. Audio tours available in English, French, German and Spanish. Free admission.
We parked our car at a public parking two blocks away from the museum. The parking cost 10 dollars a day. We walked to see the Mississippi River before entering the Old State Capital. The Capital is beautiful but small. The lady volunteer at the Capital told us about the history of the Capital. The stained glass was beautiful. The staircase was nice. The exhibition rooms were excellent.

The concert was great. Getting there was a nightmare, 40 miles, took 4 hours. We had to walk up 12 flights of stairs, it took over an hour to get out of the parking lot, 3 hours to get home. Baton Rouge is simply not equipped to handle a large event.

I was down here to run in the Billy Cannon 5k. This is definitely worth the registration and some of the wait. The whole experience was very smooth even at packet pick-up. The staff were very helpful in answering questions and providing information about the run.
On actual race day the energy was tremendous. The course was laid out well and marked really well to make sure you didn’t make a wrong turn.
The finish was awesome. The last stretch you run down the service alley that takes you into the stadium where you are announced as you finish.
If you are a runner or starting to run this is a good one for you to start with. There is an awards ceremony and lots of food music and drinks for everyone.

I attended a cheerleading awards banquet that was held in Stadium Club South. The accommodations were impressive, the food was really good (probably could’ve used a little more spice, but I get it that they have to appeal to a broader audience) and the views of Tiger Stadium were spectacular. It was extremely cold so I recommend bringing a sweater or something long sleeve.

Garth Brooks concert was amazing, but getting out of there was hell and in my opinion a bit dangerous if there was anything ever like the concert in Vegas a few years ago, this is not where you would want to be. It took 3 hours to get to our house that was only 15 min away. Regardless, the sound system was powerful, Garth is a great entertainer and Tiger Stadium was packed to the gills. It was a fun night!

It is a pantheon of concrete and steel
It is a city that rises defiantly in the delta alongside the father of waters
It is the humidity of autumn evenings that drapes stately oaks and broad magnolias
It is haunted ... and it is loud.
It is Halloween night & Cannon blasts
It is a Louisiana gumbo of humanity that cheers its Tigers to victory & destroys the dreams of invading foes
Chance of rain is ... never!
It is the cathedral of college football & worship happens here
When the sun finds its home in the western sky it is a field of glory for sure ...
But much more than that it is a sacred place...
And it is Saturday night in Death Valley!!

Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is an iconic venue for college football, and the game between the Army Black Knights and the LSU Tigers on 10/21/23 was certainly memorable. LSU's dominant 62-0 victory showcased the team's prowess, and the atmosphere in the stadium was electric.
The stadium itself is a true gem, known for its passionate fan base, also known as the "Tiger Nation." The deafening roars of the crowd reverberate throughout the stadium, creating an intimidating atmosphere for opposing teams. The tailgating culture is a unique experience, with fans from both sides coming together for good food and camaraderie.
The sheer size of Tiger Stadium, with a seating capacity of over 100,000, is awe-inspiring. The architecture and design of the stadium provide great sightlines for fans to watch the action on the field.
The LSU marching band, known as the Golden Band from Tigerland, adds to the vibrant atmosphere with their energetic performances.
Overall, Tiger Stadium is a must-visit for any college football enthusiast. It's a place where the spirit of the game and the passion of the fans come together to create an unforgettable experience, even if the scoreline of the game didn't favor Army that day.

This place is huge! I don't think there is a bad seat here. We sat in the 600's and had a clear view of the entire field. They had three giant screens you could see from any seat as well. Security was great.. they handled themselves professionally and friendly. The vendors were good, but their prices seemed a bit much for my walet. Getting in was trouble-free, but you'll need any bag you want to carry in to be clear so it can be viewed from a distance. Getting back out to your car was trouble-free. Exiting the area was efficiently guided by the local police and sheriff's departments. If you follow their directions, you'll be back on I-10 in 8 to 10 minutes.. easily.
The Nottoway Resort is a lavish estate situated on a former plantation, offering luxurious accommodations complete with dining facilities, an outdoor swimming pool, and a fitness center. Other nearby plantations include the Laura Plantation, Houmas House Plantation, Whitney Plantation - which features an exhibit dedicated to the children of slavery that is reportedly emotionally stirring - among others.
Make sure to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴏʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ when booking your hotel. They compare hundreds of booking web sites and normally will have prices a lot cheaper than others! You're welcome :)! This resort is one of the best in this area. I've been coming here for a very long time. If you stay for a few nights you will love it I'm sure!
A lovely place with an awesome history. Our guide Verna was so helpful and shared with us how life was living in this plantation. Wonderful tour

I was shocked to find out that a 6 year old and a 10 year old , and a 60 something have to pay FULL adult price. No senior tickets. No student tickets. My daughter paid $82 for herself and a 6 & 10 year old. To wait for the tour to begin we were forced to wait with the kids in a small outside area. We drove an hour and a half to get here were not even allowed to walk around the grounds on the nice side walks. The front desk person said we had to wait in this little area next to the gift shop like we can’t be trusted. The tour guide was excellent but at this point I’m just disgusted and over charged. I didn’t feel welcomed to your beautiful property and the entire experience was lost in the first few minutes that I was here. It’s all about the money I suppose. There are plenty of other places I would recommend checking into instead of this place

Dirty/dusty. Never could get a confirmation e-mail, but was able to access booking on-line through their website, so I wasn't concerned, until we checked in and I could not access it any longer. Booked a mansion deluxe room for $250 and ended up in the "boys wing" room #3. No luggage assistance, or showing to room. Really disappointed, booked for anniversary. Bed is tiny. Note that website says this room has tub/shower - it does not. It is shower only. Saw one of the mansion rooms, they seem larger & cleaner. Bed is tiny in #3. There is a coffee maker, but no outlet, so have to move it into bathroom is want to use it (this is where I am charging phone). Television is on a sliding shelf, but it is not attached, beware - my hubby caught it! If you get what you pay for, maybe you will have an okay stay, but property in general is run down. Had drink at bar (opened at 5pm and last call is 8:30pm) and bartender was very nice, so they get 2-stars due to her. At this price point, I cannot recommend to anyone.

This is the second time I have visited. Tours are limited to the weekend now but the property is still awesome. A quiet place to stay the night. Only draw back was no silverware, plates, paper towels in kitchenette. We brought dinner in because there isn't much open or close on a Sunday night. Sad face.

This plantation house is huge. So cool to see inside. The tour was great too. We got lots of good photos. There is a pretty good size gift shop too where you can buy some nice souvenirs. Would recommend this plantation.

My fiance and I went for a day trip.. The home and the grounds are absolutely beautiful and full of history! It was my fiance's first time going to a Plantation home and he is hooked he is already talking about the next one we can go to!

They are not fully up and running yet. So when we went the pool wasn't clean and the hot tub wasn't running and the spa wasn't opened. Beware they also didn't have the dining room open on Monday and only limited hours on sunday. The grounds were beautiful and very peaceful. Outside our room there were rocking chairs that we could sit in the shade make sure you look out the huge live oak trees. They were named after the 11 children of the original owner. Reception area for the dining room is used to be a bowling alley. See if you can eat outside, not really outside but where you can have a glass enclosure that looks on the grounds that's the best place to eat at the plantation.

We came and met friends who were staying here for dinner. Wonderful and accommodating staff. Everything was delicious from cocktails to dessert. Shrimp Creole and Blackened red fish was out of this world. Amazing ambience, defiantly would love to go back.

I went on the tour given by Hunter and it’s been one of the highlights for me while visiting Louisiana. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about history , I honestly didn’t want the tour to end! I saw some of the rooms and they were beautiful and well priced, might stay if I get a chance on my next visit.

We did not stay at Nottaway, but we did get to see the cottages and guest rooms. They were beautiful. Newly renovated and so comfortable. We went for the tour of the house and it was one of the best tours we've been on. Our guide was so knowledgeable and very entertaining. I would highly recommend visiting the plantation.

Beautiful resort and great tour! We took our cruise along the Mississippi River and this was our first stop. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered all questions. Was nice to see that one could stay in the mansion or the grounds overnight. Great tour!

The house is one of the more interesting homes we toured. There is zero information about the plantation on the tour, so you just hear about the house and residents. They do not let you explore any of the property on your own (it’s an active hotel, so can understand), but it would have been nice to see more of the property. I don’t think we’d been happy staying in the hotel itself as the beds looked like full size, which could be hard for 2 people. The rooms did look nice from he ones we toured though.

Great tour guide. Beautiful old home with beautiful views of the river. Interesting history & our tour guide was very knowledgeable having had his family work there for years.
Billy Gaston is not only a good boat captain but he is also knowledgeable of the fauna and flora of the Louisiana bayous and he has an uncanny sixth sense of where the wildlife is as he maneuvers his craft around each bend and turn in the waterways. Talk about an Eagle Eye--Captain Billy has it, and he can show you just where to point your camera. But, he goes even further than that. He skillfully and patiently positions the boat so each photographer can get an optimum shot. Add to all of those attributes--a heart that passionately loves the area, a great Cajun sense of humor, and a naturalness for entertaining, the Cajun Man Billy should be at the head of the list for anyone desiring to explore this area of the world and glory in its beauty.
Bonnie Barry — Google review
We’re disappointed by the experience. We were expecting to travel the bayou and instead we simply strolled in long straight canals. It felt very inauthentic.
On the positive side, we did see a few eagles and alligators roaming around and fed the later. The captain was definitely jovial and helpful.
All in all it wasn’t an awful experience, but it wasn’t either exploring the bayous. It felt very touristy.

Absolutely worth the $$. It was almost a 3hr tour. Our captain was very knowledgeable. We got to feed 3 different alligators. I highly recommend taking this tour. Captain knows everything about the swamp. It's amazing how he can get each gator up to the boat just by calling out their names. Won't give anything else away as far as what to expect.

Absolutely amazing swamp tour and for an unbeatable price!!! We learned so much about the bayou and my kids had an incredible experience driving the boat feeding the gators and seeing all the wildlife the swamp had to offer❤️ Have already told so many people about this tour and recommend to everyone!!!

Highly recommend this swamp tour. We saw a lot - alligators and bald eagles included - but we also learned a lot about the animals, the trees, the Cajun people. Captain Billy is so familiar with the flora and fauna of the area, and its history. He has an easy manner with every age group and tells great stories, which all added up to a very pleasant 2 hour tour.

What an amazing and beautiful experience for our family! The owner has such a heart for people, animals, the bayou and Jesus. You could feel the love and passion that he had for his work. If you are considering going and have any hesitation let this review be your sign to book this wonderful tour. My family highly recommends this excursion for all ages and I hope you get to be blessed with an amazing memory and lots of pictures!

This tour is guided by one of the wisest and sincere Cajun Men of South Louisiana. He follows an informative script, filled with jokes. Captain Billy is a master at his craft.
I have lived in South Louisiana my whole life, and I have never taken a swamp tour before his. It was so enjoyable, and the covered boat made everything first class.

Such a cool tour. We saw alligators and bald eagles in the wild. The Captain was really cool guy. Very informative and explained a lot about the bayou, swamps and marshes. I will definitely do the tour again when I come down with my family so they can experience it also.

We went out with Captain Billy Gaston, Da Cajun Man, for a 3 hour bayou cruise. He knew everything there was to know about every plant and animal that we saw, and even drove the boat up close for photo ops. The gators throughout the tour swam up to the boat like they were his pets, he knew them all by name and called out... and they came swimmin! Everyone got to feed the gators chicken on a pole, and one gator climbed right up on the back deck! Captain Billy was so funny, had us laughing the whole time. He let the kids drive the boat on the way home. A great way to spend an afternoon with the family. Highly recommended!!

Captain Billy was fantastic. He is cash only, and on the thursday we went he charged 30 a person, 3 to park at the marina. For what you get, that was a super deal. He is authentic, super knowledgeable, fantastic presenter.
We got up close to lots of gators, and everyone who wanted to had a chance to feed one. Saw many species of birds, including several bald eagles. Visited bayous, canals, and marshes. Many wild gators legit recognize his voice. He knows so much about the entire ecosystem.
Could not have had a better experience. 100% worth the drive to get there.
Circa-1840 Greek revival mansion & plantation that includes gardens, lodging & elegant restaurants.
The property is beautiful. You could take 2-3 hrs just enjoying the gardens. The house furnishings are amazing and a must see. The tour guide did a great job telling the history and answering our questions. The oak trees are massive and the grounds are covered with these beauties. Walk up to the river to get a good view of what they would have seen before the levee was built. I highly recommend Houmas House and Gardens.

Traditional plantation house with full guided tour. Great to hear about the evolved design of the house and the activities of its owners. Landscaped grounds are lovely to walk through. We understand that this house had a good relationship with its slaves and gifted them land when the regime came to an end, therefore there isn't so much on the history of slavery it's very much about the house.
Allow a couple of hours to visit. There is also a cafe. At the time of our visit it closed at 2pm, had assumed it might be open later and this is the only food outlet so keep the timings in mind.
Note the Great River Road museum is not included in the main house ticket price, we decided not to pay the extra.

Excellent tour! We loved Mrs. Ruby, our tour guide! She was very informative and patient with us and all of our questions.
The cost for two adults is $70 plus tax but that cost includes a self-guided tour of the gardens which are very beautiful!
There's a restaurant and bar here. The bar makes great Bloody Mary's!
While walking around the gardens, be sure to visit the bird. He talks and he loves attention!
Houmas House is where the movie Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte was filmed and you can see the room Bette Davis stayed in. If you can, watch the movie before visiting. You'll recognize some of the rooms from the movie.
My husband and I have done this your several times and we enjoy it each time! Can't wait to come back!

This historical site is just magical! The gardens and mansion is over the top gorgeous! The guide was wonderful. I am really disappointed to have missed the Museum that was built. It sounds amazing. They allowed my little dog on the tour with me. I chose to carry her so she would not have a potty incident. But every little detail was beyond impressive. This is the best of all the plantations to explore!

This was an excellent plantation tour. Huge parking lot with ample room. We bought tickets online for a certain time for the tour.
The grounds were impeccable. Beautifully groomed and well cared for. Beautiful lake with swans, geese, and ducks.
We had an excellent tour guy. He knew his stuff. Great historical stories to go along with the facts of the home.
Each room was carefully decorated to the period and some with original furniture.
Very friendly people as well.
Tour took about 1:10. We walked the grounds a bit so the whole visit was about 1:40.

This was our first plantation tour of our week-long trip. Overall, it was a great experience, and our guide, Ruby, was excellent. She was able to answer most of the questions posed to her and did answer all questions related to the estate. We were surprised to learn that the current owner actually lives there and more surprised that he allowed the tour through his private rooms. The gardens were absolutely gorgeous and had a wide variety of plants and wildlife. The admission price was a little steep, but learning the history around that particular piece of property was priceless.

After moving away from Ascension Parish nearly 25 years ago, I wanted to share memories from my childhood with my husband when we returned home this Christmas. Houmas House did not disappoint!! It was better than I remembered. It is obvious the current owner Kevin has invested time and resources into the house and grounds, not to mention the addition of the amazing museum and restaurants! We have toured homes around the world and to see this jewel a few miles from my childhood home was incredible. It was also heartwarming to hear that the beautiful murals in the main foyer are the work of Craig Black, the caretaker from the
'80s that is a very accomplished artist.
Ruby was our tour guide today, very informative and personable. She gave the perfect mix of past and present to the tour.
We look forward to stopping in on our next Visit home.

A definite must-do if you’re visiting Louisiana. We learned so much about the history of the home and the people during the tour. While we waited for the tour we were able to roam the land.
Oak Alley Plantation is an attraction in which visitors can learn about the history of sugarcane cultivation and local history. The property is adorned with beautiful oak trees, some over 300 years old, creating a stunning tunnel leading to the home. The guided tours provide insights into both the glamorous and horrific aspects of plantation life, including stories and displays about both wealthy families who owned the plantation and enslaved individuals.
Stunning view of the oak lined boardwalk. We did the tour of the big house and highly recommend it. Anthony was our guide and was full of interesting facts. He did a great job telling all about the house; his original accent really added to the experience. As good as the tour was, the highlight is walking the grounds. Everywhere you go is a great area for a photo shoot. We all really enjoyed the experience. The grounds are beautifully maintained. 5 stars

Not sure why but you can't take pictures inside the main house. I really would have liked to so I could have different pictures than the website.
Other than the main house the rest is self guided and you can take pictures.
There are signs throughout to explain what you are looking at.

This was a nice, well kept plantation. The people who worked there were for the most part polite. I’ll say as much as you could expect for it being 100 degrees outside. It had all the stops, food, shirts, drinks, and treats you could want. Nice clean bathrooms. The salve quarters are replicas but filled with plenty of historical facts and items from the era. The grounds and big house were beautiful. The oak alley is a sight. I’m only giving 4 stars because the guide wouldn’t let anyone take photos in the house.

As you would expect, this is a beautiful place constructed by some of our countries best and most under appreciated craftsmen American chattel slaves. It is a challenging fact to accept what happened here and how American prosperity is not shared equally. The nonprofit foundation has done a great job maintaining and telling the story. It would he been nice to hear from or see Black tour guides. One thing I did notice was our tour guide Jackie spoke about the family that built the home and the enslaved that waited on them almost equally. Again this is a difficult story to tell and we all share insights based on our own experiences so I was grateful for the facts and details shared. I also spoke with Stephen in the slave quarters area and will impressed with his use of technology in his presentation. He had photos and referred me to a specific area of the website to find any details possible about specific persons enslaved. I will come back when the new building is complete. Lastly, the number one thing that made oak alley stand out was the cocktails! I had a mint julep. It was delicious. What a thoughtful, tasty, and refreshing way to navigate a challenging yet rewarding historical experience.

My only regret at this place was not booking an earlier tour so that my family and I could enjoy the beauty of this place a little more. This is definitely one of the most beautiful plantations I’ve visited. The entire area is very well maintained and preserved. I love being able to tour the house and enjoy the views from atop of the wrap around walkway. The oak trees were so beautiful and stunning to me. I’m not from the South, so seeing these massive Oak trees was absolutely breathtaking. They offer drinks right before the house tour and we ended up getting a spiked lemonade which was delicious! The tour guide was very informative and like I said, the only regret was not booking an earlier tour to give us enough time to really take this place in.
It is about an hour away from New Orleans so if you’re planning on seeing this while there, you’ll have to rent a car or pay for a tour bus to take you.

Loved the tour of the old house and the history of the area. The slave quarters where a nice depiction of what life was like when it was built of the hite owners with the backs of those slaves. Was not happy you could not take pictures of the inside of the house but I am used it now after Europe. Well worth the admission fee and the ground were truly the diamond of the tour!!

Delightful! We loved it! We got there for the earliest tour in the morning and it was just perfect because we had the time to enjoy the beautiful 200 years old oaks and the alley before it got crowdier. We loved the house, it was so well preserved! The tour guide was very nice and she answered to all our questions. Maybe the tour was a little bit too fast (we would have liked to have more time to read about the history of the place, about the artifacts, but while we were doing that the tour guide was already talking in another room so we had to rush). Also, you can’t take pictures on the inside which we would have loved to, but at least we could take pictures on the balcony and it’s definitely a view worth taking pictures of! It was very nice to visit also the slave houses and learn more about the history and evolution of the plantation, it made the whole visit more grounded in the reality. It’s an hour from New Orleans, but if you have the chance, absolutely go and visit it, it’s worth it!

Being from Baton Rouge, you sometimes forget to be a tourist in your hometown. Oak Alley is beautiful. The tour guide, Amy, was knowledgeable and courteous. I bought a mixed drink after to enjoy while walking around. My friends were concerned it would be too strong for me to drive but it was not. Not really sure they added alcohol really. But it made for a nice time drinking a cool beverage & enjoying the grounds.

Such rich history and an amazing view. It’s just too bad it comes with such a horrid past. I did very much enjoy wandering the property and learning about its past. I found it was a great starting point to get interested in visiting and exploring more of the plantations.

My visit to Oak Alley Plantation was a journey back in time to the antebellum South. The majestic oak-lined alley leading to the plantation house was a breathtaking sight. The guided tour provided fascinating insights into the history of the plantation and the lives of those who once lived here. The beautifully preserved grounds and the iconic Greek-revival mansion were a photographer's dream. It's a place that beautifully encapsulates both the grandeur and the somber aspects of Southern history. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone seeking a glimpse into the past.

We booked a guided tour through the house. The guide is related to some big sugarcane-farmers, so she had some interesting insiders from the present.
The history of this whole place is so dramatic but very interesting too.
Even if you're not interested in history and only a Red Dead Redemption Fan, the views from the balcony through the Oak Alley and the surrounding gardens are stunning. I guess it was 30$ per person, but it is so worth!

Oak Alley Plantation is an absolute must-visit for anyone exploring the deep South. Stepping onto its grounds feels like stepping back in time to 1899, with its stunning oak-lined avenue and impeccably preserved Big House. The guided tour was both informative and engaging, providing valuable insights into the complexities of plantation life. The beauty of the architecture and surrounding gardens is simply breathtaking. The staff were not friendly, but it enhanced the overall experience. A visit to Oak Alley is an unforgettable journey through history and natural beauty. Highly recommended!

I recommend getting the big house tour. It’s a different experience to hear the explanation and story from the docent. There were only 4 rooms we visited and can’t take pictures inside. There’s also a display with video about sugarcane industry in a different building.
The lady in the ticket booth was so kind to move our tour up since we came so early after our swamp tour. If you’re hungry, there’s a cafe near the huts. The food is edible but not special.

It is an amazing plantation, rich in cultural history, incredible architecture, and an intriguing life story behind it! The land around the main home is breathtaking!! The huge trees, and fields as far as you can see. Staff here are so genuinely friendly and helpful. We went in the little store and there are such an interesting variety of gifts, or souvenirs. I enjoyed every moment of this tour!! They also have a bar outside that offers you authentic drinks from the time period this was a working plantation. Mint julep was one!! It's a lot of fun!!

We enjoyed this tour a lot and got lots of great pictures, even though Hurricane Ida removed some foliage from the famous oak trees. It's a nice plantation and the original fan over the table was interesting to learn about. After the tour, we shared a mint julep which was very tasty. We had the original one with bourbon but they also have a non-alcoholic option. The grounds were nice to talk around and they had some educational exhibits in the slave quarters area. The shop has some good merchandise and in looking at the postcards, you can see what Oak Alley used to look like before the hurricane. Overall, it's a nice visit and a great way to spend a few hours.

I was so taken aback by my experience on this tour. I took this tour as part of a cultural journey for myself, and wanting to pay homage to my ancestors. I easily forgot that not everyone on the tour was there for the same purpose. I was quickly reminded though by the blatant disregard for the grounds that were being walked. The slave quarters are at the very beginning of the path to the “Big House”, and I watched as nearly every single person walked right past without even glancing in the direction of the slave quarters. What was worse for me was the offering of bed and breakfast cabins. I don’t personally understand, but of course I’m looking through a particular lens on my journey.
On the other hand, the grounds are absolutely picturesque. I certainly understand why it is such a popular place. The main house is a sight to see from any angle on the outside. I ultimately chose not to enter the main house, but I’m sure it was gorgeous. There is a hugely rich and popular history attached to this plantation, and it is interesting to hear. Many a Hollywood film and various music videos, have used this property. I’d recommend a little due diligence before taking this tour. It’s one of the big tours offered, and you should try to get the most from it.

Oak Alley is magnificent. I only gave it 4 stars because there is no 'tour' of the grounds, only the house, and no pictures are allowed to be taken inside, which was disappointing. You can walk the grounds on your own. Much of the atmosphere unfortunately is very sanitized and commercial now. The grounds barely remind you of the past. Sugar cauldrons are used as landscaping decoration, and it took me a bit to realize what they were. There are a few cabins left. One cannot get an idea of what plantation life was like. The gardens are only an imagining of what gardens of the eras might be. Of course the oak trees lining the entryways are very grand. The plantation is very well taken care of, but the house and grounds look modern now, and like someone could just be living there today. We went with Cajun Encounters tours and paid one price for the tours of two plantations and transportation, so I'm not sure what a single ticket costs.

Oak Alley Plantation in New Orleans is an absolute masterpiece. Stepping onto this historic estate is like stepping into a storybook. The iconic oak-lined alley leading to the stunning Greek-revival mansion is a sight to behold.
The guided tours are informative and provide a deep understanding of the plantation's history, including the complex story of slavery in the antebellum South. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate, making the experience even more enriching.
The plantation's well-preserved grounds and gardens are a feast for the eyes. You can feel the weight of history as you explore the various outbuildings and exhibits, including the poignant Slavery Exhibit, which offers a humbling perspective.
The Oak Alley Restaurant is a great place to savor delicious Creole and Cajun cuisine while taking in the breathtaking view of the alley of oaks. It's an experience that combines history, beauty, and culinary delight.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or someone seeking a deeper understanding of the South's past, Oak Alley Plantation is a must-visit. It's a place that leaves you in awe of its beauty and contemplative about its historical significance. A true five-star destination.

Take a walk around the ground before the main house tour. You get to see where the slave quarter was ( not the original but it has been rebuilt using historical photos). Our guide Mrs Anne was fantastic with the history of oak alley. Reading about the place before visiting will also help to understand how and why it is how it is today.

A historic place. The main house is not very big compared to some of the huge mansions you can see in other places. They really maintained it well with so much tourism going on. The tours are both educational and insightful. The oak trees are really something else, especially when you just walk out of that door on the second floor. Some of them are more than 300 (or even 500?) years old I believe.

Absolutely wonderful experience!! The oaks were gorgeous and the grounds were very well-maintained. Jackie did our big house tour and did a great job. She was very knowledgeable about the family and house. Overall, I highly, highly recommend visiting Oak Alley Plantation if you’re in the New Orleans area.

A picturesque plantation about an hour from downtown New Orleans. Only guided tour portion is big house where you are not allow to take pictures inside (~30 minutes). There are gardens, slave quarter section, restaurants, spirit house, parking, and gift shop on site. There are adequate signage throughout estate for self-guided tour. Worth a visit to get a glimpse of the past.

Very disappointing tour. The plantation itself seemed more focused on the opulence of "big house" & French slave owners than how slavery and its abolition changed the course of America. Slavery was presented more as an afterthought. They didn’t even call the slave owners what they were… they instead repeatedly named them “Planters.” Well, I’m pretty sure those slave owners never “planted” a day in their entitled lives. Frankly, it’s modern-day “white-washing” of what this plantation really was. Sad that in 2024, many in the south & the world still deny the atrocities of slavery everywhere it existed & still exists on the planet. We did appreciate the tour guides. The atmosphere around us was full of selfies & jokes, not on the solemnity of the atrocities which occurred there. The slave quarters' remains were not preserved. These are replicas, as they are stated as such in the placards outside.

Beautiful Plantation Museum with plenty of displays and information. Nice guided tour inside the house, but photos were not allowed to share.
We had advance tickets with a tour company. Did notice people who just arrived not being able to go in or having a long wait because it was sold out

Beautiful and well maintained with the oaks as the stars of the visit. We enjoyed the house tour, but just walking along the oaks was the best. We stopped and people watched for a while in the cool afternoon air. So majestic and scenic!
The Laura Plantation is a significant historic site that showcases Louisiana's rich Creole heritage. Visitors can take guided tours of the property, which includes the main house, grounds, and a slave cabin. The plantation is among several others in the area worth exploring such as Oak Alley Plantation, Houmas House Plantation, Nottoway Plantation and Whitney Plantation.
A must visit. This was by far the highlight of our visit to New Orleans and exceeded all expectations that we had. Visited other plantations but this stands out memorably. Did the tour of the plantation which was led by an amazing guide who brought so much perspective from all sides including the Creole and French aspects which are understated and usually not mentioned. It is a powerful experience that brings to life an era often hard to imagine and place in perspective for our current times. If visiting New Orleans or Louisiana, Laura plantation is a vital stop.

I really love the generation concept that is portrayed in all of their brochures. The property is spectacular, the gifts shope is exactly what I was looking for. There was a great mix of historical and local items for sale. Now for the reason I did not like the Laura. We were told we could take pictures but were "raced" through so quickly there was no opportunity. Pat our guide was extremely well versed in her subject however she seemed bitter about having to show "outsiders" her plantation. She spoke so quickly and stated she would accept questions yet when I asked questions she treated me as if I was stupid. One question was with regards to the dormer window. "People didn't live up there, it's for ventilation." Yes absolutely correct but answered in a way that told me not to ask any more questions. We were not allowed to walk around the property and I understand. But... the entire experience with Pat made me feel as if tourists are not wanted.

If you want a snapshot into Louisiana history, this is a great place! The plantation’s story follows primarily one family. The ways their family have shaped the area was very interesting to me.
The gift shop is well stocked with decorative items, jewelry, and lots of food items. And our guide, Auguste, did a great job for having such a large group.
But on that note, we were grouped with 20+ people total—far too many for the small rooms. They were short staffed (on a Monday). That was the only downside. Overall I enjoyed the tour!

Beautiful authentic history. Fantastic guided educational tour. Well worth the time and money. We were very lucky to have Olivia as our tour guide. Olivia did an amazing job giving us an educated and factual look into the Creole way of life for all involved in the plantation life. Hope you get lucky enough to get Olivia on your tour.

This was such a great and amazing experience, that I truly truly recommend if visiting the New Orleans area. I highly recommend tour guide Lindie. She was super informative and deep vast knowledge of the plantation and just Louisiana slavery made the experience much more enjoyable. I learned things that I never knew and I thought I covered all the bases when it came to that topic. So if you're every in New Orleans, take the 40-50 minutes drive out to Laura Plantation ask for Lindie and have a great informative experience.

This was a great visit. We learned a lot. If you go to Oak Valley first be prepared for a different experience but not in a bad way. Both are informative and educational. Both give you a guy’s picture of life back then. Both don’t shy away from slavery or the horrible conditions that enslaved people lived in. The difference is in the story of the space owners who lived there and just how different they were. It’s well worth visiting by all means.

This was by far the most informative and engaging tour, I took the most out of this. I can't remember the tour guides name, (young man, from the area, blue eyes) but he was so informative. He talked about life there for everyone, really took note of the groups understanding of history and context during this period of time. He was great with conversation and open dialog. Answered lots of questions and provided accurate information. Would recommend visiting here to everyone.

This was very educational and eye opening. The tour guide was super knowledgeable and I enjoyed all the information and the fact that they’ve tried to keep it all original down to the paint colors that were common to the creole culture.

The Laura Plantation itself is wonderful. They allow you to take pictures inside. There is a lot of history preserved there, and the tour guide tells you all of it, it seemed. They approach tours now from the people that lived and worked there point of view, and focus very little - and I mean VERY little, on the place (buildings, grounds) themselves. We stood for a long time in a few different spots, and my feet and legs were tired from standing listening to the tour guide. Yes, she is very knowedgeable, but after telling you generation after generation, and the trauma, and abuse, and literally nothing 'good' about it all, you're left wanting to just get out of there. You can't remember all that geneology in one lesson, and although it's a great history lesson, I would much rather have read it, or at least been given a guide to follow along. I probably wouldn't take another tour there if I go back to New Orleans. I certainly enjoy history, but this is too much standing with no place to sit, and one does get tired. Laura seemed dusty, especially the floors and like it could use a good cleaning.

When exploring history, context is everything. I had the opportunity to tour the Laura plantation yesterday. Invited by an associate, I must confess I was hesitant. I had an unsatisfactory experience at one well established plantation that didn’t address the history of enslavement and one revolutionary experience at Whitney that solely focuses on enslavement. To me, I had struck out once and witnessed life changing history at the other. I am uncomfortable with the concept of tourism to any plantation that does not encourage anti racism. I reluctantly agreed to go.
Boy, am I glad I did.
It challenged me to explore the complex and often forced community of this particular site. It never glamorized or made the owners of the big house heroic or to be emulated but spoke with direct honesty of their view points and transgressions. It spoke of a woven narrative that explained the integration of the household side by side was not equality.
Due to the matriarchy of this Creole (not American) household there is a narrative offered here with direct sources that gives incredible detail and many specific enslaved individuals. The French records offer insight that often the American records can’t.
The willingness of this organization to hold themselves accountable to this narrative since 1994 means they are version 20 of the tour. Every time they uncover new information about a complexity they return to the drawing board and thoughtfully create a narrative that includes the brilliant craftsmanship of skilled labor and the absolute cruelty of capitalism around enslavement.
I’d like to mention that our tour guide Joseph was an absolute gem of a guide. Even though he primarily guides in French his descriptions in English were crafted with dignity and he wasn’t afraid to challenge pre established concepts. I have rarely seen such skill bridging any history much less one that requires such dexterity.
I now believe that if someone was interested in de-colonization and anti racism the Laura is essential. I think a day trip that would alter your concept of history forever would be Laura, a picnic at Laura after decompressing and then Whitney.
It’s essential to understand that if you visit New Orleans nearly every boutique hotel, every store, every historic house, every public park has a history directly linked to enslavement. At Laura they understand that responsibility.
If you are strong enough to look this history in the eye, you might see yourself reflected. But beyond that reflection is a path forward. But first we must do the work. The work is being done at Laura. And now it’s up to me to do better.
The Whitney Plantation is a historical museum in Louisiana that is dedicated to preserving the history of slavery. Unlike other plantation tours, Whitney Plantation does not focus on the mansion and its previous owners but instead educates visitors about the lives of slaves who worked on the plantation. The restored buildings and guided tours provide an insight into this dark chapter of American history. Proceeds from ticket sales are directed towards supporting descendants of slaves.
Amazing Experience. The only plantation tour focused on the slaves. This tour is a great look into the life of slaves here in Louisiana. The tour is self guided with an audio program you listen along you as you walk through the property. I highly recommend this tour if you want to really learn what it was like to be a slave and learn about their histories.

The only plantation tour that tells the slave's story. it actually gives honor and record of the salves how purchased to be on this plantation. they have records of the ones that died also. This is a must see. you will learn a lot about sugar plantations and get to see the land they slaves had to work. you will have an audio tour which makes it even easier. you will get a great untold history lesson also.

One of a kind museum and tribute to the memory of early American Plantation Life. Great architecture, history and sculpture gardens. Many original structures from nearby plantations have made their way to Whitney. Grounds are shady and cool with an interior gift shop for sweet tea and break from the heat. Must see for the history buffs and people who choose not to erase our nation's past however unfortunate. RIP to the 100's of thousands of formerly chained souls, may ye be free.

Most depressing thing I've done in a very long time. I'm emotional and cried through the entire experience. Sad realization to what African Americans experienced in slavery. I'm broken. I will say it's a humbling experience. Makes me realize how fortunate I am and regardless of my struggles, I am free. My children are free. Having said that I needed to experience the south. For the richness in heritage and blast to the past. I loved the experience. The Whitney Plantation helps you understand from beginning to end what the plantations were about and how slavery changed the face of America.

WELL worth the visit. Recommend the audio tour. Takes about 2 hours to complete. Plus the small museum, looking at about a 2.5-3 hour visit. Best for adults and kids in middle school and above. Any younger and they’ll be bored pretty quickly. Leaves you with a healthy respect for what happened here, not angry or ashamed. Very, very well done tour. Highly recommended.

Tour is self guided using either an app or an audio recording they provide. This is my first plantation I’ve ever been to and I enjoyed the educational aspect of it. The tour is informative and told and shows/explains the issues of the past and slavery, primarily why I chose this plantation as my first since I was interested in the plantation’s slave past rather than just the owners, i heard other plantations do focuses on that.

An Enlightening tour of one of the best plantations offered. There was so much history shared that my party and I were in awe. If you go to New Orleans you owe it too yourself and your loved ones to take this tour.
If you are of African descent, you definitely need to see this historical place on a tour that is given from the slaves perspective. I highly recommend it and commend those who make this possible and are preserving as well as protecting this priceless property.

This historic site tells the how much slaves built so much of this land. The Whitney Plantation gave a more realistic view of the daily life of enslaved people in comparison to other plantations we have visited. We recently visited a famous plantation in Savannah, GA….but it only dedicated a small plaque to the slaves and the family still resided at the residence holding events and weddings. The Whitney Plantation handled this so much better. My children learned so much on their visit and know they are their ancestors dreams.

Such a moving and emotional experience.
The Whitney Plantation truly tells things as they were and shines light on how enslaved people lived and were treated. While it is not easy to hear and see, we must not ever forget or whitewash our past so that we learn from it and do better.
The grounds are well-kept, the staff are kind and very knowledgeable, and the subject matter and history is clearly shared here.
This is the only plantation tour that people should be making and I was so thankful to learn that they do not allow weddings or other such events to occur here because this is no place of celebration. Very well done.

Seriously the best plantation tour you can go on. Tour guides are incredibly knowledgeable and well versed in the local area. They go deeply into complexities of what slave life was like and how they were traded/forced to work. I would recommend this tour to everyone who really wants to understand what the slaves went through.

What amazing detail went into ensuring the history has been preserved. I recommend you download their app and have ear buds for this self guided listening tour. If you do not don't worry, they have listening devices to borrow.
Also, bring snacks for yourself. It's a 60 minute drive from New Orleans plus 2 hours on the actual tour. You'll get hungry.

I just visited the Whitney Plantation and I have to say, it was an incredibly emotional and contemplative experience. The dedication to preserving and sharing the history of slavery is evident in every aspect of the site. Walking through the grounds, seeing the restored buildings, and hearing the stories of the enslaved individuals left a lasting impact on me. The commitment to giving names and voices to those who were once silenced is truly commendable. If you're near New Orleans, a visit to this site is a must for all Americans.

I took my kids on Martin Luther King Day to show them the perils of not so long ago. It gave weight to what everyone before us fought for and why the fight continues. The tour, though on your own, was actually better than I thought. With the headphones and remote synched with each stop along the trail, it helped humanize the plantation. It brought up emotions, for sure, as I listened to the stories of those who had been interviewed. It was a lot to take in but an undeniable time for those who lived it everyday. I'm not sure how I would have survived. Our ancestors are amazing! Thanks to those who work to preserve Whitney Plantation. I plan to make this tour again.

A heavy and remarkably humbling experience. This self-guided tour (using headphones with prerecorded commentary) walked us through the entirety of the plantation, structure by structure, and allowed us to go at our own pace - which I found to be very important as parts did become quite emotional.
We got to empathize and appreciate some of the history, stories, and encounters of enslaved people. Also got to admire their skills and achievements.
Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Louisiana.

I booked this plantation over Oak Alley and Laura Plantation because of its focus on slavery. As someone who studied African American literature, I'm familiar with slave narratives and stories so I was bracing myself for a very emotional experience based on the reviews. I actually left feeling underwhelmed and unfazed.
To start, our guide was very knowledgeable and respectable. She was eager to answer any questions our group asked, and did a great job explaining all the sites, exhibitions, and the process of harvesting sugar cane with respect to the slaves. The memorials they built to the side are very interesting and reading the quotes of slaves gave more insight into their day-to-day lives. It was also pretty surreal to walk inside the cabins, jail, kitchen, the house and be able to touch those walls.
There are two reasons I'm giving this tour four stars. The first reason is because of their lack of customer service. I made the mistake of booking a guided tour before reading that Ubers/Lyfts don't operate in that area. I sent an email a week before asking if they can assist me with coordinating transportation and never got a response. I called them when they were open and no one picked up and I never got a call back. This is unacceptable for a museum that's very isolated from the city. Thankfully, I coordinated a private ride with a previous Uber driver.
The second reason I'm giving it four stars is because of the organization's choice to clear out all the furniture from the main house to not perpetuate showcasing the wealth of the plantation owners. I understand they made that decision out of respect to the slaves, but I still would've liked to see how the house looked during its time, even if the furniture was borrowed from other plantations or museums. I believe history should be presented in its entirety, and walking through the empty house was very anti-climactic and actually detracted from the experience as it was the finale of the tour.
Overall, I was underwhelmed, but I respect the effort the organization is making to prioritize the slaves who lived there. I still recommend everyone do this tour because it’s very informative and explains the sobering, important, and dismal history of our nation and humanity in general. However, I think one would get a well-rounded experience if you paired a visit to Whitney with Laura and/or Oak Alley, despite being known to whitewash their exhibits.

This site is phenomenal! It’s very informal! We did the self guided tour with the headsets where we could hear first hand account stories from former slaves. The site is beautiful and has been preserved really well! It’s one thing to hear about the transatlantic slave trade, but it’s another thing to be on the same land the slaves built, worked and lived on.

This tour is very emotional. It discloses everything, warts and all. The building's the art, the statues, and graphics, so well put together. There are various guides situated throughout, for any questions. One guide at the church, a lady named Cheryle, was a wealth oh information. It's really worth the visit.

I brought my children, and my cousins here back in June 2023. I came here the year before in April of 2022 with my sister and 2 friends. Then, they weren't doing live tours for regular folk that wasnt with a special group, so we had to listen to the tour on headphones. We also couldnt visit the church or go inside the slave shack or upstairs inside the big house due to the hurricane making things unstable at that time.
We rode the bus from New Orleans from one of those tour companies from off the street. They were great too, because they gave us the history of NOLA, and the area we were traveling to visit the plantation. They even told us about the other plantations along the way.
However, this particular time in June of this year, we drove our car, bought tickets at the door, and were able to get the live tour, and visit all the places we werent able to go into the first time.
OMG! It was amazing! The first time was great as well. But I loved being able to ask questions n get clarity from the tour guide. It was beautiful learning more about my ancestors, and offering my children n cousins the opportunity to experience this place. Even the founder was on the land at the time of our visit, so we got to meet n talk to him.
He's not black, but he did an amazing job honoring the people kidnapped n enslaved here.
I recommend this place to anyone who plans to visit a plantation. Skip them other ones, they don't water down the truth at this one.
**I tried to share photos that didn't have anybody or many people in them.

It was a very moving experience to visit this place. I could almost feel the terror and horrors that were perpetrated here by the slave-owners. The self-guided tour was excellent, the staff was very nice, and the entire grounds are very well kept. Visiting the main house, and then the slaves' quarters, was especially jarring and painful. Contemplation in the Antioch church after touring the grounds is a must-do. Before touring the grounds, definitely walk through the exhibit in the main building. It gives vital info that is necessary to create context and understanding. A visit here is definitely recommended for all Americans. Never forget the horrors that occurred here not long ago. Vestiges of such oppression, hate, and subjugation remain to this day. Stay aware of them and treat ALL people with respect and love.

This was my inspiration to visit new orleans. They've done a tasteful and meaningful job of telling the story from the perspective of the enslaved. I really hate to say that I’m a little disappointed but I am. Just be aware that if you’re the first group of the day, they do not let you in to use the bathroom or checkin until 9:30 on the dot - even though about 2 dozen people were waiting - and they started the tour within 5 min of the doors being open so it was a rush to use the bathroom and checkin - so no need to be 15 minutes early as the confirmation email says. The front desk staff was pretty rude about it and actually laughed at me 😂 Our tour didn’t take us to even half of the spots on the property and it was up to us to explore at our leisure at the end of the tour (although our guide was great!) I’d say save the few extra $ and do the self guided tour.
We had such an excellent tour, it exceeded all my expectations. Captain Craig was awesome, guiding the tour expertly while teaching us about gators, other wildlife, the swamp in general and Cajun culture. This was an incredible experience and I can't wait to go back!

What an awesome experience. The entire crew was awesome and very welcoming from the moment we arrived. We arrived a bit early for our booked tour but had a great time learning about the region, swamps, gators, birds, airboats and more while waiting. The boat ride with Chad was a blast! He's am amazingly experienced driver, has infinite knowledge of every inch of the region, having grown up there, and he is passionate about it and will go the extra mile to make sure his guests have the beat possible trip. He went overtime, took us to an amazing view spot of the sunset. It was already dark when we left the spot but, even though it was late December, he didn't want to have us leave without spotting a gator. So we stopped at 2 other spots and, on the second spot, we hit jackpot! He somehow found a year-old baby-gator, pulled it out of the water and let us all hold it and take photos. We couldn't have been happier.

We've been on an airboat before but this was absolutely our favorite! I had researched many other options but this place had just what I was looking for, an authentic local feel. I knew we were in the right place when his wife said she thinks he enjoys giving the tours just about as much or more than we enjoy taking them. We had a group of six 3 kids and 3 adults. Everyone was comfortably seated and had a great view. He took us out to beautiful areas, gave great information and even a few jokes. It was fantastic. We got to see nesting birds, an alligator nest and several large gators who came up to the boat for a snack from Arthur. He had names for them and you could tell he really cared foe each one. We also saw many smaller gators along the way. I highly recommend checking this place out for a tour! We're already planning to come back.

My brother wanted to ride on an airboat and Chad @ Airboat Tours by Arthur's was awesome. It was a very cold and windy tour so the big gators werent out but Chad knew where some little ones were hanging out. I'm not sure where the mamma was, however. It was fun and informative and we would highly recommend it. They set us up with blankets as it was already windy and freezing outside and the process was smooth, we were not surrounded by a bunch of other airboats filled with a dozen other people. We rode in a six seater and got up to over 42 mph. Water was a bit choppy, so we couldn't go faster.

This is coming from a lifetime Louisiana resident. The sunset tour was awesome, got to see a ton of wildlife and Captain Arthur knows that swamp and about all the wildlife better than the back of his hand. If your up for it you may even get to catch a gator yourself!

We went on our first airboat tour yesterday and it was phenomenal!! The whole team with Airboats Tours By Arthur were all extremely hospitable, knowledgeable, and excited to show us the vast wildlife of the swamp.
We booked the airboat sunset tour and it was better than we could have imagined. Our group of 4 was taken on an exciting ride through the swamp, seeing a variety of animals and plants while the guide had an endless stream of facts revolving around the animals, plants, history, and current management of the swamp area.
If you’re going around this time of the year (Jan-Feb) then bring lots of layers for the sunset tour (maybe gloves & a hat too), shoot for arriving ~15mins earlier than they recommend since Google map’s directions are a bit off, and so you have time to chat with the kind women in the building (they will share lots of wildlife facts with you!). Oh and ask to borrow eye protection from the front desk so you don’t miss anything on the ride while you’re flying through the swamp brush.
Again, highly recommend Airboat Tours by Arthur.

We had such a great time on our airboat tour! We got to see a lot of alligators and had a lot of fun! Very knowledgeable tour guides.
Wow! I am blown away at the experience my family received. This place was magical to someone who lives in the northern part of the country. The hospitality we received was second to none. Mike and Frankie were some of the nicest people we have ever met. She was knowledgeable and comfortable with all the animals. They were happy to answer questions about the show and the animals. I could spend all day being able to get that close to animals I have never seen before. Thank you for the amazing experience. We will be back for sure!

Our family came just after a large group of 100+ just finished their visit, so the owner took us on our own personal tour. He was very knowledgeable & answered all of our questions. He explained that some of the enclosures were undergoing expansion & rearranging to better accommodate all their animals. We especially loved our up close visit being able to hold & pet all the super friendly animals. My daughter wanted to spend the rest of the day there. We never felt rushed & truly had a great time. We also liked that this is a family owned business that has every member of Kliebert family helping care for the animals.😊

Had a great time, loved watching kids in the group interacting with the animals. TMike was extremely knowledgeable and really cares about the animals. Each animal's care, personality, and temperament is considered during handling and before allowing guests to handle the animals.

A must stop and do!!! Very personable establishment. The family and staff are accommodating and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the tour around the different animals and reptiles. The alligator turtle was a treat. The alligators of all sizes were very cool! Feeding the animals was fun!:). We bought a sulcata turtle and have named him Sheldon. Thank you Kliebert & Son's Gator tours for the fun time and new family member. Kind regards

We took the kids today and it was fun for all of us! Our kids are 16, 8, and 6 and all of us learned something we didn’t know! Kate and Robert were the absolute best tour guides. They were so nice. Even when my youngest was asking a ton of random questions they were patient and you can tell they love what they do! We will definitely be back and recommend going if you’re in the area!

This is our families WE HAVE TO GO !!! spot on our yearly trip. Last year was our first time and we fell in LOVE ❤️❤️❤️ Was so awesome to come back to the same people and animals. Just a great experience. Can't wait till next year when they are in their new spot.

Katie was absolutely amazing with giving the tour and answering any questions we had. We got there mid-tour so joined the tour she was currently giving and then walked around on our own afterwards. I purchased a stuffed animal and then turns out my son put it back so I called her and we stopped back by to retrieve it.
Also, props for this place also being kid-friendly. My 4 year old son had an absolute BLAST!

Private swamp refuge offering narrated boat tours with alligators & other wildlife sightings.
Incredible tour through and through.
Starting with the pick-up in New Orleans, our bus driver, Byron, did an incredible job entertaining and educating us the entire ride, pointing out local landmarks.
Then throughout the boat portion, our tour guide, Bishop, provided humorous stories, interesting facts, and fed the alligators twice (so both sides of the boat could enjoy the feeding frenzy).
He passed around an alligator head, osteoderms of turtles, and even let us hold a live 2.5 year baby alligator.
This was my first swamp tour in Louisiana, and I enjoyed the entire journey through and through. Would highly recommend!

Such a wonderful experience for the whole family! Our captain, Tom, was so fun and full of wisdom. He cheerfully shared his wealth of knowledge and answered everyone’s questions, no matter how silly. We saw plenty of gators, raccoons, birds, & turtles. No wild hogs this time but the captain said they were seen the day before our tour. Their gift shop was full of unique items not seen in other area gift shops and the staff are all very warm & friendly. Plenty of space for large groups and small groups alike, lots of shaded areas with picnic tables and seating (with industrial size fan to help keep everyone cool), clean facilities and grounds, and they’re working on constructing a new, much larger building that when done, will make this place even more spectacular. We had a great time and highly recommend doing your tours here!

Took a trip to New Orleans to do something different and weather was really bad downtown, but clear outside of town, last minute found Cajun pride swamp tours online gave them a call and they said if we could make it there in time we’d have a ride to get on…. It takes a little longer to get to them on Highway 10 then the map shows but all in all it’s super easy to find and make it to their parking lot. Everyone there was super nice and it was fun to get out on the boat relax for a little bit and watch them talk about the gators. Weather was a bit cooler so some of the bigger gators were not out but we still had fun running around the swamp and seeing some of the midsize gators come to the boat to get fed. It did sprinkle a little while we were out there but the boat has a top on it which is probably great in the full sun and it kept the rain off. Fun trip and guide was really good with everyone. Fun to hold the baby gator. They are rebuilding their facilities that were destroyed during a hurricane so they use a temporary building for the gift shop and check in areas but the land is owned by them so you’re not competing with other boats out there on the property. Would recommend as a fun stop.

Staff was very nice and accommodating. Capt Dustin was extremely nice as well. This is well worth the $$ spent. Tour is roughly 1.5 hours and features alligators, wild pigs, raccoons, soft shelled turtles and more. This is pretty touristy and commercialized. I deducted 1 star, like others have stated, they feed the animals marshmallows and such, so they don’t act like totally wild animals, instead of being spooked by the boats and humans, they chase the boat. I get it, they have to have the draw to get people excited about coming, no hate from me on it, but I would have rather seen the tour with the animals acting like they normally would. (Doubt we would have seen the wild pigs though). Great job guys and I would recommend to others.

From the beginning to the end of this adventure, everything was perfect. Very entertaining, and we had the opportunity to touch/carry a baby gator! Pretty cool!
I would recommend to bring a mosquito spray, pants and long sleeve. Just because there is so many mosquitoes.

Informative and something different to do. It was a cloudy cool day so beware that gators this time of year, end of Nov, are not out moving much or at all. We were lucky in that we saw 4 on the noon excursion. Guide was great and down with the reality of not seeing much.
Kevin Stewart — Google review
I gave them five stars even though we didn't see many alligators. I was there as part of a tour group. We had gone to Mardi Gras parades the day before and it's still cool outside this time of year and the alligators are just starting to come out of hibernation. So, of course that is not something the tour company can control. But it was a beautiful sunny day which made the boat ride pleasant. Tom was our guide and he was humorous and knowledgeable.

This tour was fun and informative! The driver and the tour guide both did a great job of keeping up the energy of the group and keeping us entertained during the drive to the plantation. The swamp tour was full of wildlife and I'm talking up close and personal! Alligators, wild pigs, raccoons and turtles all within a few yards. We were even able to hold a baby gator! The best way to spend a day in New Orleans!!!

A great time. The captain was so informative and made sure everyone saw plenty of gators before we went back in. All the people that worked there were very friendly. Kids really enjoyed it too and got to hold a baby gator on the boat. Price was reasonable for the length of the boat ride. Will definitely come back if we are in the area.

I would highly recommend doing the Swamp Tour with Cajun Encounters when in New Orleans. My girlfriends and I had a fun time and our swamp tour guide, Captain Pat was such a delight. Very informative and also fun, wouldn't have picked anyone else. We got to see a lot of wildlife such as many different alligators, birds, raccoons & wild boars. I think our time at the swamp was well used up very well & it was entertaining the whole entire time, super friendly staff as well at the gift shop and in general. 10/10.!

What an awesome experience. Our tour guide was easy-going, informative, funny, and a blast to hang out with. His banter during the tour was a bigger highlight than the gators. If you’re in New Orleans, spend a day with these people. You won’t regret it.

We enjoyed our Cajun Pride Swamp Tour very much! The guide was affable and filled the tour with humor. We saw about 25 alligators and learned there are no crocodiles in the US. We also saw raccoons and wild hogs.
We came during the heatwave but fortunately it rained just before our tour so it was cooler than the rest of the day. This is a great way to get a taste of the swamp while visiting New Orleans or Baton Rouge.

Taking a trip with Capt Tom is a great experience. He’s knowledgeable about the eco system and can explain it very well. Since it’s gotten cold the big gators are not very mobile so that was a bummer but He’s got a tank and has 3-4 baby alligators so he brings them along and you get to hold the. A very cool experience! We saw lots of wild Pigs and even 3 piglets less than a month old. Lots of Raccoons you get to see how they all jockey for the feed he throws out. He explained the difference in how you make money with selling hides which requires a license. They bought the swamp land and manage it themselves. Mention AAA get a few dollars off. I had done the plantation tour many years ago skipping it this time.

This swamp tour focuses on the history of the area (like they all usually do) and they tell the story of the town of Frenier that was wiped off the map. There was a lot to look at. Racoons and alligators were the main attraction, but wild hogs did make an appearance which was delightful. This place seems to get a lot of tours, and busses come out brimming with people, so there must be some deal going on there.

Absolutely captivating swamp tour in the bayou of New Orleans! The thrill of encountering wild animals in their natural habitat was unmatched. Knowledgeable guides provided fascinating insights, making it an educational adventure. From alligators to raccoons, the diverse wildlife sightings were a photographer's dream. A must-do experience for nature enthusiasts and those seeking an authentic taste of Louisiana's untamed beauty.

Dived into the heart of Louisiana with Cajun Pride Swamp Tours and let me tell you, it was a wild ride minus the seatbelts! This isn’t your grandma’s boat trip unless she’s into gators, tales taller than the trees, and Captain Brandon’s legendary swamp wisdom. The man’s a swamp whisperer, cracking jokes while casually pointing out critters that’d make a grown man squeal. Comfortable boat? Check. Nature’s untamed beauty on full display? Double check. Learning something new without realizing it because you're too busy being entertained? Triple check.
If you're itching for adventure or just want to see if alligators are real, book a tour and ask for Captain Brandon. It's half education, half entertainment, and all unforgettable. Cajun Pride Swamp Tours isn’t just a 5-star experience—it’s a “why isn’t this everywhere?” kind of good.

Really close to the Highway. Super easy to get to. The parking lot is big enough for a tractor trailer and several tour buses. We called ahead and were told to pay over the phone. When we got there, a pair of really nice ladies greeted us in the gift shop and gave us our colored tickets, which they stated corresponded with colored flag on the boat we would be riding. There were alligators in the water near the shore before the tour even left. They chopped up some chicken and we loaded onto the boats and took off. There was some nice shade that covered the waiting area. Now, we went on just the right day....Cloudy and 70 degrees. They stated that there are no alligators to be seen during the winter hibernation months....December, January and February. The water is too cold and they go into hibernation mode where their heart beats only once every 4 minutes. Conversly, if you go when it is too hot, you may not see alot of alligators because they dig deep into the cool mud in the dhade.l amd do not always come out.The alligators are trained to come around the boats because they get corn, marshmallows, and chicken. There are a ton on bird feeders that attract a ton of birds although I did not see any rare or exotic birds. The boat is covered and has gasoline outboard motors that are very quiet. Now, when you get on the boat, make sure you sit on the outer seat at the front (the side opposite the driver where the entry ramp is) Sitting in the front gives you the best vantage point to view all of the wildlife at the landings. The tour was about 1.5 hours long and the excitement began to wear off on some of the riders. There were about 40 people on the boat with us. We were the 2:15 tour on a Saturday. (busy) The driver was personable and knowledgeable and gave some intersection facts. Definitely recommend!

I felt my “cityness” melt as Captain Tom regaled us with stories of each gator we met. Pigs. Raccoons. Turtles. It was amazing scenery, but Tom really helped me shift away from my preciousness and embrace the raw joy of the bayou. It was the best, I hope I get to come back some day.
Historic plantation home with exhibits, interactive demonstrations & tours from costumed guides.
Excellent tour! Very informative! The tour guide was pleasant and she was knowledgeable about the house and grounds.
You can come early and walk around the grounds on a self-guided tour of the slave quarters and the school.
There's also a gift shop and public restrooms which were clean.

Wow, just got back from this incredible place and I'm still buzzing about it! First off, the information on display is absolutely mind-blowing, and the way they've set it up? Super interactive. It's not just your typical walk-and-look kind of museum. You get to really dive into the exhibits, which makes learning about everything so much more fun. And let me tell you about Beverly – she's the real deal. Her way of guiding us through the history was so engaging, it felt like stepping back in time. She had stories, facts, you name it, all delivered with this energy that just draws you in.
The highlight for me? Their entire section dedicated to the slave revolt. This isn't just a footnote in their history presentation; it's a full-blown, deeply respectful tribute. They've listed out all the names of the slaves that were involved, which hits hard and makes it all so real. It’s a powerful reminder of the intense history that unfolded right where you're standing. The way they've handled the topic of slavery is commendable – no glossing over or downplaying here. They present it as the significant, impactful part of history it is. If you're thinking about visiting, just do it. It's not only an eye-opener but an experience that's worth every penny and more. 🌟👍

The Destrehan Plantation tour was amazing. Our tour guide, Ms. Beverly, was so personable and knowledgeable about all the information about the plantation. She made the tour worthwhile. The home itself is a magnificent structure. The property is beautiful, but it was used as a prison for 200 slaves in its distant past. I believe everyone should visit this place. It holds a significant and priceless place of value to the history of the south and our nation.

Who wouldn't want to be a slave after this tour?
The tour guide made it sound perfectly delightful...work at this beautiful home (designed by a free black man) until quitting time at 3pm, then go to your second job--or work at home, you do get free room and board after all--where you can save your earnings and buy your freedom!
I read the other reviews with one particular complaint about the avoidance of the word "slave," and subsequently the issue being corrected. I found it insulting the use of the word "enslaved." It's like saying the taboo word "slave" will make tourists run screaming from the property.
The tour is entirely about the house (the structure) and the families who occupied it. Not it being on a plantation, and not one word about the slave revolt.
If you're into architecture, take this your.
If you want to learn more about the history of slavery and the revolt, skip this tour. It'll make you feel marginalized again.
One star for tour guide wearing the costume in the Nola heat.

We attended a private party on the pavilion by the horse barn. It is covered with tables and overhead fans with bathrooms close. It's a great place to have a party.
We did not tour the house but the grounds were beautiful with lots of outbuildings. It would be a wonderful home to visit if you are looking for a plantation home to visit.

I didn't take many photos hear as I had to sit out the self-guided portion. However, the tour of the home was awesome. The guide was super detailed although a little just straight fact based. Kind of like they are just used to telling the same thing over and over and it's a little bit on auto-pilot now.
The grounds are beautiful and the gift shop/entrance and exit really is a vibe all it's own. Very whistle stoppish. Recommended for a slow paced relaxing and educational experience.

We really enjoyed our trip to Destrehan Plantation today. Our tour guide Beverly is full of wonderful information that ties in so many aspects of the history of this home, the area and our country. She brought history to life for me with her masterful story telling. I have never enjoyed a tour as much as I did this one. And I have been all around the country. Thank you so much Beverly. We also had the pleasure of learning about the slave revolt of 1811 from amother gentleman. I'm so sorry I've forgotten his name. If you are anywhere in the area do not miss stopping by for a tour. It is well worth the money.

We went on a ridiculously hot day in July. Our guide, Emma, was exceptionally knowledgeable and gracious. She provided an aspect of history not taught in schools, including geopolitical issues and melting pot customs that contributed to this unique area! The issue of enslaved people was respectfully addressed and they have made efforts to acknowledge those individuals.
It was easy to get around and fascinating to explore all the buildings.

The plantation is lovely. We went on Saturday 4/3 and took the 1pm tour. The staff were nice and welcoming. Our guide Allen (I think) was knowledgeable and informative. He gave a lot of information but was short, precise and interactive. I appreciated that. We asked questions and he knew the answers. We visited some out buildings but sadly couldn’t explore the whole plantation because it started raining cats and dogs. We went into another exhibit about slave revolt and there was Ms. Julie who was the guide there or facilitator. She seemed very passionate about the subject and very knowledgeable. Having said that she started talking like a boring professor and looked at us like unruly students. We were literally sitting/standing there looking at her afraid of getting in trouble. We had another engagement but her train would not come to a station that we could get off at! She was going hour by hour of the slave revolt. We quite literally had to make an escape. She turned to the last of our group and said with disdain “ you have to leave?” Yes ma’am thinking I’ll get in trouble for leaving the classroom!!? My goodness! I took a star off because of that. While I appreciate the knowledge, I appreciate keeping it short, interesting and precise even more. Also if we are not interesting in knowing that many details, we should not be made to feel guilty. Allen told us shortly about the slave revolt and it was wonderful. That was the main tour and we enjoyed that thoroughly. The forced lecture - not so much!
This plantation is closest to French quarter at about it 30 min and the price is acceptable. I would highly recommend it but steer clear of Ms. Julie unless you have an hour or two extra to spare !

Great information, very interactive, and Beverly was very engaging. Worth every penny to see this place! They had an entire museum dedicated to the slave revolt, including a list of all the names of slaves that were there. Super cool experience.
Giraffes are my favorite animal on earth, and I’ve fed them a few times, but never quite as up close as this. I’ve never been able to pet them before. It was surreal.
My family had fun. There was a diverse mix of animals on the tour, and while some were hidden or resting, the animal we got to see up close were amazing.
Our tour guides were knowledgeable and kind. One person lost their hat, and they stopped to help him retrieve it.
For less than $150, 6 of us enjoyed a couple of hours experiencing something fun, educational, and unusual from the daily grind.

What an amazing experience! Most of the animals come right up to you and eat out of your hand. The tour guides were all very knowledgeable and the ride was just the right amount of time. Bring water though, it’s hot out there, even with the shade of the covered wagons. The family feed was enough for 2-3 people to make it through the entire loop. Watching the animals run and having them eat out of your hand was the highlight of the trip!

Highly recommend! Family enjoyed this trip. We decided to do the private pinzer tour and it did not disappoint. We were able to go wherever the animals were as most of them were of the road a little bit. I would recommend buying 2 buckets of feed if you do the private tour. You will need it!

We enjoyed our Saturday trip to Global Life Safari. We loved seeing the animals roam freely. They gathered quickly at the wagons when we stopped. During this time you are encouraged to interact and fed the animals. We were informed that feeding the Zebras would be against the rules prior to starting the tour. Believe what they say…DO NOT FEED THE ZEBRAS. We purchased a bucket thinking it would be enough for a family of four. We were wrong! We were so excited about feeding and interacting with the animals that we ran out of food about halfway. We plan to purchase a sack or bin on our next visit. Our wonderful experience made up for the two hour drive time.

This is an awesome facility. I first visited here decades ago as a field trip and was so happy to be able to share the experience with my family recently. The drive up to the check-in facility gives you a good taste of what's to come. It is great that you can buy tickets online now too. Check-in was a breeze and every staff member was very friendly. Our tour guide (wish I could remember his name!) had full tour worked the crowd of people & animals well. The private tours are great, but you won't be disappointed with the larger group ones either--the animals don't discriminate!

We always have a Great time at Global Wildlife Center. The facility is clean and well organized. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's a unique experience that the entire family can enjoy together. Highly Recommended. Definitely get your tickets in advance and arrive early.

It was a nice trip for the kids. They really enjoyed being able to be around the wildlife & getting to feed some. They didn't start on time...which took away time from our reserve viewing time. I booked for 2p.m didn't start until 2:40 and finished an hr later. But we enjoyed it. The phone says you have to book online but I'm sure you can also buy tickets in their booth. We got the $35 dollar bucket of food and last us the whole way. Someone got a sack and finished it real quick. It all matters how you distribute the animals food through out the ride. Wish they had hippos or more diverse grass eating mammals. Go try it out, the wagon ride for adult cost 19..Kids over 2yrs 13. And infants is free.

This place is really cool! Take a wagon ride on an adventure feeding many types of animals. My favorite is the giraffes feeding them or watching them run. I have been here 2 times so I have experienced both. It's a great little adventure to take with family.

Our tour guide was so sweet. I highly suggest Gabby!!! We all had such a great time. We bought private tour tickets so we were able to go all over the park. Can't wait to go back!

We absolutely loved this place! Best time to go is 9am! It's breakfast time. Even though it's hot in Louisiana, still the best time to go. My little girl loved being able to feed and pet the animals from the wagon!

We had a wonderful time!! Definitely get the bucket of food vs the cup! I loved the Watusi's and the Buffalo! So fun feeding them! The giraffes were amazingly beautiful! Our guide Carlie was great, and has all the puns and jokes ready for ya!❤️

Wish we fed more animals directly, but we were at the end of the wagon... get the front wagons for more animal traffic.
Lovely hostess! Decent prices for the invaluable experience of feeding well cared for animals on this beautiful conservancy.

This was really nice. I didn't know what to expect. It is about a 1:15 long ride around a nature preserve with hundreds/thousands of animals. We bought a family bucket of feed which worked well with the 2 kids we had with us. It was an enjoyable experience. Maybe this is appropriately priced, but I thought just a tad high - maybe I'm cheap.

Our tour guide was great. It was a cold day so not all the animals were out. It was still a fun time and worth it. The 9 year Olds favorite was feeding the red deer from Germany.

Great idea for kids super safe ride isn’t long by the time it’s over the kids are ready to go so it’s perfect! Haha animals come in herds but the giraffes are a little hard to feed due to them being skittish but we got lucky! Highly recommend
