A wonderful selection of local wines are available for tasting in a large space. Service from staff was excellent. There appears to be a hotel near the tasting area and a nice coffee bar next to it.
Douglass Brown — Google review
The staff there were friendly. After the wine tasting, we bought 2 bottles of wine, that were very well packed for us. When I just arrived home and opened the package, I found the expensive wine club exclusive Heavy Hitter Petite Sirah was not sealed. I talked to the manager the next day and he explained some wineries simply send in their wines to the visitor center with the bottles not sealed. This exposes a safety concern to us, because the content of the bottle could be easily changed. It was said there were some environmental concerns with the foil sealing. If so, there should be some sort of replacement like wax sealing. Wine sold with the bottles not even sealed in any way is not acceptable.

It was a short stop but hubby and I enjoyed this visit. Waited for them to open so we can buy some wine before meeting a friend. Great Memories, lovely place!

Thank you Brooke, we were so glad to have this fantastic experience tasting a little bit of Lodi during my work trip! This is such a brilliant concept to have in town. I appreciated it so much! Lodi does not disappoint with their wines and we will be back in the area for sure, cheers!

We went to pickup our club order. Did a tasting of three wines. Did not disappoint.

Great place to stop by to teste local wines and to have an intellectual conversation. Paul was a great and knowledgeable host!

Visited for the pick up party which was well attended this year. Good food catered by Wine and Roses restaurant/hotel next door and a good selection of wine tastings from N2, Michael Klouda etc. We enjoy the wine club here because we get 4 reds from different member wineries each quarter. Recommend visiting and tasting.
Bruce Hall — Google review
The older woman with dark hair and glasses working at the wine tasting counter was very rude to us. We were trying to figure out our shuttle pick up location. When we returned to the visitor center from the hotel staff who sent us back to her for clarification she turned to customers she was waiting on and said “Oh, they’re back” in a very snotty way even though our communication towards her had been very friendly and upbeat. She told us she couldn’t help us and we should wait outside (in the cold) even though the visitor center was empty. Then, a man in a blue vest jacket came out from the back area and said our shuttle would pick us up in front of the center and we could wait inside where it was warm. The older lady changed her demeanor at that point and echoed what he said. So rude and poor representation of the Lodi wine community. This experience was a birthday celebration and our first time visiting Lodi to spend money. Poor behavior from one human being to another. Thanks for that. Here’s a tip: treat people with dignity and respect! Stop making baseless judgements on the way people look or dress because they don’t match your IDEAL client.
The Crocker Art Museum is a world-renowned museum with a wide range of exhibits, including paintings, sculptures, and drawings from around the world. It's also home to one of the best collections of California art in the country. The first floor of the building has been designated as an education center with classrooms, library space, and exhibition area perfect for student and community exhibitions.
COVID precautions require purchasing timed tickets. Sold at 15 minute entry intervals, I purchased mine right before I left my house. Beautiful expansion building is attached to the original Crocker mansion. Exhibits were well laid out and easy to navigate. Loved the bright open areas and the eclectic mix of Mexican, African and Asian art. Spent 3 hours here and easily could have made it a full day to take it all in. Gift shop is small but reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit!

This museum is GORGEOUS. The fashion, the paintings, the ceramics, the art pieces... All absolutely amazing. The museum is very neat, open and quiet. There's staff nearby in every section. Bathrooms are pristine. The atmosphere is peaceful and inviting. Overall, a great experience! Side note: I'd recommend you set aside 2 hours to see the whole place.

Beautiful location to explore. Combines modern with Victorian, so easy to get lost in the art. It's a place I could stay for hours, lighting was never too harsh but never so dark that I couldn't see the art. Great collections with beautiful sections. Easily will go more than once.

Was so surprised at how great this not-so-little museum is! We expected to be in and out in less than 2 hours, but spent 3 and still didn’t see everything.
I particularly enjoyed the explanations accompanying each work — by far the best I’ve seen (and I’m a pretty frequent museum-goer), and I found that taking the time to read the blurbs really enhanced my understanding of the work. From explanations about the artists’ lives and influences, historical and political implications, and discussions of the materials used, these write-ups also included tips of what to look for — some of which I otherwise would have missed.
This is a great way to spend an afternoon — whether you’re a visitor to Sacramento, or a resident who just hasn’t visited the Crocker yet!

Our family had a very relaxing, and beautiful experience here. The museum is as beautiful, and clean as it was when i visited as a child. There is so much beautiful art and architecture to look at. We came for a classical concert on a Sunday. Highly recommend if you are in Sacramento.

Went for Baby Loves Art; My 8 month old really enjoyed it as did we. They assign a gallery and have a play area set up within the gallery as well - super thoughtful. Afterwards, we explored other exhibits before heading out.

A lot of fine art and a three hour walk within the building and I feel like we still didn’t get to look at everything. There’s so much to see so many beautiful paintings, historical artifacts, and sculptures. It’s a nice place for a family get together to go really see some history, there was a story about a Native American woman whose son was taken from her and placed in a Catholic church school It really caught my attention.

Can't believe that I have never been there before. The museum was so beautiful and everyone was so nice. I highly recommend it to all.

As museums go, I would rate Crocker among the top. The Candy Store Gallery is a must see and during our trip, we spent 4+ hours in the gallery and 60% of that was in the Candy Store Gallery.
The docents reach out to engage and are so knowledgeable - the stories captivate and get you to appreciate what is in front of you.
A must stop for any museum lover visiting Sacramento.

Visited for free as part of the Bank of America Museums on Us Program. An absolutely beautiful massive collection of art. It can be a bit confusing to navigate all the different rooms spread across multiple levels but you almost want to get lost in the variety. So many different styles, artists, mediums. My favorite are the glass art pieces. Extremely beautiful. Plentiful parking when we visited as well and inexpensive street parking nearby.

I've lived in Sacramento my whole life and somehow had never been to the Crocker Art Museum. I have walked and driven past it numerous times and have always wondered if it was worth a visit and I finally know that the answer is a resounding YES! This is a wonderful place to visit solo, with friends and family, with kids, etc. There's something for everyone to see.
The docent led tours are a must for newbies and there is even a special tour for kids that is offered on the 1st and 3rd sunday of every month. My 6 and 7 year old children loved it and stayed engaged throughout the approximately 1 hour long tour through the 2nd and 3rd floors of the museum. The docent was very knowledgeable about the exhibits and the local history and made it fun for kids and adults.
There is a large courtyard area for kids to eat and run around outside and an indoor tots area with playhouses and other montessori inspired toys. There's a small cafe inside but food and drinks must be enjoyed on the 1st floor only.
Overall this is a great place to visit to see art and learn about local history for a reasonable price.

Had a really pleasant experience visiting this place! It's got a mix of contemporary and classic artworks which is pretty cool. The architecture is a real treat too – it's like a blend of traditional and modern styles. There's a lot to see and take in. Definitely a must-visit!

Great collection of early 19th to 20th century californian paintings esp of landscapes giving us a good idea of how these places looked like in that era. The building itself has a fascinating history too. Huge collection of pottery and native baskets too.
Great museum of arts. Highly recommended.

This museum has a bit of everything: modern, classic, ancient, ceramics, sculptures, glass work, weavings and tapestries, mixed media, and so much more. It’s a great museum that spans a few buildings with tall ceilings and a quiet atmosphere.
There is paid parking across the street.

Beautiful place. I'm a member so I try to come every few months when they switch the traveling exhibits.
The children's playroom is so cute and interactive and the outside is just as beautiful as the inside.

Abby and Juan's engagement session at the Crocker Art Museum was so stunning! The iconic venue provided a unique and artistic backdrop for our photos. The museum's stunning architecture and diverse collections added a touch of elegance and sophistication to our shoot and the staff was incredibly accommodating, making us feel welcome throughout the entire process. I live in Sacramento for about 12 years and this is the first time I've ever gone to the museum! I can't believe this is my first time, just now going! My wife and I are getting ready to celebrate our 9-year anniversary on the 31st. We planned a day out together to just go around Sacramento and enjoy some of the attractions and activities right here at home for the day. This was one of them. For me, I absolutely love the original museum because I enjoy historic buildings. The stairwell and the tile work, everything about it was just really amazing to me. I absolutely loved it. When we went over to the newer building where there was actually more art to be seen, that was enjoyable as well. Some of the pieces were very are inspiring. There are three that really stood out. The giant mural of the old man, the father, was really amazing. Also the AI exhibit turned out to be one of the most fun components of the museum. Stating a phrase, thought or an idea and that it coming up with a drawing that represents that was fun to see. Very interesting indeed. There is even a time that my wife was trying to push the button and I wasn't ready yet and so we kind of had a little bicker with her trying to get me to go and I wasn't ready, so I bickered back and it actually captured a little bit of our Tiff and drew a picture of a man and wife arm wrestling - lol. I thought that was actually pretty amazing. We ended up printing that one out and keeping it. Smiling the whole time. In total we spent 3 hours there. If a person doesn't engage in the AI portion and, goes through everything quickly without stopping to really take it in from time to time--I'm sure they can get through it in an hour and a half to 2 hours or so. But we took our time. I appreciate that they also recognize veterans and gave me a discount on the admission as a result. That's always a nice touch. Parking was nice and easy and the day was beautiful. As a matter of fact when we were done we just went for a little scooter ride around the area:-)
Also, the views from the upper levels of the new building are really incredible. Everything was just really well done. I didn't know if I would like it that much but I've never been and so we went. My wife went once way back in high school, she found that she enjoyed it too. She's an artist, she paints acrylic on canvas. I write music sing and dance. That's my art form. It was nice to see such a diverse collection of painted art as well as crafts. I definitely say get there late morning or early afternoon. The timing of that seems to work well. We went to a late breakfast prior, and then drove straight there. We got there around 10:50am or so, then by the time we were done at 1:50pm, we were ready for a light lunch.
Sacramento was filled with things to do right here at home. Oftentimes for anniversary celebrations, I book something out of town or some sort of a mini trip. This year we decided we wanted to stay close to home. We filled our day with breakfast, crocker Art museum, walking around downtown, riding scooters downtown, little clothes shopping, a movie, a fun hip place for dinner and dessert and then home. It was a lovely day. I think about it often. It was really just nice to be out with my wife like this. We have five kids, this felt good. Kind of like just dating again just being young and fun. I look forward to many more memories with her like this :-)
Old Sacramento is a historic area situated along the riverfront, featuring buildings that date back to the Gold Rush era, as well as cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages. The region hosts several museums such as the Sacramento History Museum and state Railroad Museum, which provides train rides for tourists. This district also offers souvenir shops where you can buy T-shirts or antiques. Moreover, there are various upscale restaurants and bars that attract college students.
The California State Railroad Museum is a must-see museum in Old Sacramento that features 21 restored locomotives on display. The museum also has exhibits on railroad history, railroad workers, and the diversity of people who work on railroads. The round trip train ride takes visitors along the photogenic Sacramento River and is pulled by either a steam or diesel locomotive.
Museum was absolutely awesome if you have any interest in history, locomotives or transportation. Absolute love scale model trains, transformational (although mostly automobiles) but still found this museum to be a perfect fit. Also caught a docent led tour which explained some of the important pieces. A particular highlight is they have a railroad stake made with pure gold in the display case. Also got to step inside of one of the steam powered trains another docent explained the controls and history. One more docent led exhibit was the mail sorting train cart and it was awesome to see how mail got efficiently transported throughout the country.

Went here 10/22 with my family. Everyone really enjoyed seeing the trains. We went early on a Saturday morning and had a great time. The docents really make the exhibits come alive as they tell the stories of the era. They have a bunch of exhibits telling the stories of the immigrant workers. There are train rides during the day and various events. Upstairs they have a number of hands on exhibits as well as play area for toddlers with train themes. They also have an extensive collection of model trains which was almost as interesting as the real trains. They are remodeling part of the museum when we visited but it didn’t get in our way.

It was the most beautiful concert I have ever been to in person with live instruments. The candles definitely set the mood although they weren’t real candles. It was definitely better to have fake ones that last at all night with no heat in the room since it was already hot in Sacramento, the musicians were phenomenal. The music performed was very exceptional and delightful. I had the best time ever definitely worth the 2 Hour Drive

What a wonderful place to be! My son, daughter and husband LOVE trains so this is always as easy stop when we are in Sacramento! I would definitely give 3-4 hrs to explore and have fun! If you can stay for longer there is plenty to see and do in and around the museum. On top of seeing full size train engines there is a lot of history, displays and trains you can actually get inside and walk around. One even moves said your currently out on the rails. Don’t miss the upstairs! A cute little play area for younger kids, an interactive miniature train village and some STEM play as well. You can also arrange to go on ride as they have a train that goes a couple times a day. It goes down a couple miles then comes right back. I highly recommend stopping by! The gift shop is alot a favorite of ours!

We visited from Oregon and this museum is amazing! We brought our whole family and there’s so many things to do for adults and children. We were very impressed. The upstairs has a dedicated area for smaller children and has lots of model trains.

This is a great and well-maintained museum of railroad history in Sacramento, California. We visited on a weekday morning, and there was no rush. Different tickets are available for adults and children. This museum appeals to people of all ages. On Level 1, there is an extensive display of locomotives and carriages from the transcontinental railroad era, providing a fascinating glimpse into railway history. The top floor (Level 3) houses an amazing collection of toy trains, with several of them operational. Additionally, there is a designated train play area for kids. The docents are welcoming and knowledgeable, offering a wealth of stories and information.
While excursion train rides are available, it's important to note that these are separate from the museum entrance. Be sure to check out the gift shop, which offers a wide range of collections including toy trains, keychains, books, coins, caps, cups, and more. I highly recommend visiting this museum; it's a worthwhile experience for everyone.

This is a fantastic train museum exhibit wise. Many train museums have a lot of rolling stock including a lot outdoors where as the amount of rolling stock here is more limited but the restoration quality on most of the cars and locomotives is excellent. The layout and displays are in depth and cover the important rail history of California in particular but also generally. In addition to the ground floor displays including a handful of cars you can go through there is an extensive display of model railroads on the third floor. A small children's play area and a 5 car train on tracks on that same level as well. For the price a really great value and place you can spend a few hours with young and old a like.
Jonathan Collum — Google review
Everyone should take a railroad ride, it doesn't cost much. The trip is short but fun, especially when the train changes tracks on the turntable. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and happy-go-lucky. I would recommend this excursion to everyone. This was my first ride. It was exciting to discover how it works. Bring the kids. They will truly love it.

I went to the California State Railroad Museum to see a candlelight concert (symphony). The concert was amazing. I was definitely intrigued by the trains. I must go back during regular business hours. If you have kids who like trains, this place is a must-see. The trains are absolutely stunning!

The Smithsonian of Sacramento. A joy for grown ups and kids alike documenting a key industry in US history. The numerous volunteers stationed amongst the trains and carriages dressed up in railroad regalia provided excellent commentary. Well worth admission with multiple interactive displays.

Such a great day! We got there when it opened, best because way less people. The kids had so much fun with them whole place. Loved the chalk, loved the toy trains, loved the dining car. My ten year old son loved asking all the questions and the attendants were so helpful and sweet. Great place to take kids. There is something amazing about kids just wanting to learn about the mechanics without having to prompt them. Trains are awesome! I've been before so today I just followed so the kids around and let them explore. Magical day!

I really like this museum and it's a big deal if you like railroad history. I first came here five years ago and have returned. I rode the train all the way from Detroit to visit it and it's worth the trip. They have equipment you won't see anywhere else. It's known around the world by railfans and it is easy to see why.
Bryan Monaco — Google review
The museum is a great Wealth of information about Railroads, the history and very interesting artifacts. Ground floor has covered many historical events and trains while top floors has great toy trains collection etc and some fun play areas. We especially liked the experience of walking through those train compartments that have the effects to mimic the reality. There were employees dressed as the train staff in the exhibits. They were very patient and answered many questions from children. This visit should be included in field trips if school children. The gift shop is cute but the books were a bit expensive. There’s no food in the museum. The paid parking garage in front of the museum was very good.

This museum is one of the finest in the country. There are certainly larger railroad museums. But this one displays it's artifacts in a stunning and accessible way. They are objective and humane about the terrible experience of the Chinese immigrants who built the railroad across the Sierras.
I highly recommend this museum for rail fans and California history buffs alike.

This place is an absolute gem! Don't let the unassuming entrance nor the vaguely disinterested ticket sales clerks fool you, this museum is absolutely amazing! Anyone would enjoy this place, regardless of their affinity for trains! I was truly impressed with every single exhibit. But, my favorite was the train we were able to walk through that had the sound, look, and feel of a train in actual motion. This place is astounding!
Gina Settle — Google review
This is not only possibly the best railway museum in the world but also one of the best I've been to (maybe because I love old trains :). All possible trains, historical moments related to railways, especially in America, are represented. Everything is very nicely made and extremely interesting. It requires a lot of time to go around slowly, without rushing.
Borislav Bajkic — Google review
Lots of locomotives and cars, some of which you can enter, along with static exhibits devoted to the history of railroads and railroad people. It looked as though the kids in attendance were enjoying themselves, but there definitely are exhibits that older attendees will appreciate more.
The Museum not only celebrates trains as amazing machines, but also reminds us of the importance of railroads in our history and culture.
It is a member of ROAM, which means that you may be able to obtain free admission if you are a member of a museum that also is part of the ROAM network.

First time I go to a railroad museum, but he exceeded all my expectations. If you like learning about stuff or like trains, this is definitely a must stop to do. They have great history from the first train that existed in the United States now to the electric ones. You also learn how the Cole miners used to transport the Cole back in the day.

WOW! So much to see - definitely give yourself at least 2 hours (3+ if you want to read everything). Well worth the $12/adult we spent - I would have paid twice as much if not more. Incredible artistry and museum flow. One of the best museums I've ever seen. There are a few different floors (there is an elevator), one of which is all about toy trains. Gift shop had some really cool stuff as well. Afterward, give yourself plenty of time to explore the area - there's so much to do!

$12 for this huge selection of trains is one of the best deal museum.
Clean environment. Although you can smell the old years from the train.

Loved this place. Everything is indoors now (last time I went was a few decades ago). The museum is very clean, and it has multiple restrooms inside the show room. There are multiple floors, and there are wheelchair lifts and elevators, but walking through the train cars is a tight squeeze. They have a free scavenger hunt for a little prize. There is a small gift shop with lots of train memorabilia. Parking is paid street or garage, and it's only a short (underground) walk from DoCo.

Went on a rainy week day so not crowded at all! Always so exciting to see old trains, they look classy and elegant. I particularly enjoyed the ones that's open for entering, not something you can do everyday unless you have a ticket, really gives you a brand new immersive lesson than just signs or videos alone. Although most of the mannequins other than the Chinese section were white dudes and I got spooked by a staff who sat in the car waiting to explain to guests. So beware of white dudes here, they could be real. They also offer the Polar Express train ride around Christmas time which we missed this time. If you're interested get the tickets as soon as you can!

This museum is amazing and very interesting and informative about both the good and the terrible in our history of the railroad tracks built across our country and the trains made that changed how people and goods could travel. The museum is very honest about everything that happened to the workers of all cultures, and gives credit to those who were unrecognized, dismissed, and who didn't survive in that era of such hard labor. I feel proud of all the women and those from other countries that showed their strength and grit and worked just as hard as the men leading them, and continued that work when American men went to war. You can listen to the stories and get on the trains in the museum and witness the beautiful and the tough that happened. Docents are throughout who add to the good and the bad stories. I highly recommend this museum. There are also kids' play areas and many small but elaborate train sets for kids and grownups to enjoy viewing, and some to purchase in the gift shop. I highly recommend spending hours at the museum, plus it's located in a great part of old downtown Sacramento with boardwalks, restaurants, music, and shops for taffy, candy, drinks, and much more.

Very immersive experience and a lot of fun. The dining and sleeping train were definitely highlight. Luxury already at that time period. Also really impressed with the details of many kinds of trains , with comprehensive knowledge and historical stories. Highly recommended.
Excellent wines and beautiful outdoor tasting areas. We arrived on an unexpectedly hot day (84) but stayed cool under their patio cover. Loved their bubbly and light wine flight. Open daily and very dog friendly! We will return;)

We had a wonderful visit and wine tasting at Klinker Brick Winery in early April of 2022! Their winery is in the agricultural area of Lodi: grapes, walnuts and more. Our hosts were gracious and helpful. The three of us chose to taste the three flights they offered that day. Mostly reds with a couple of sparkling, and roses. We found their wines to be enjoyably dryer than our usual selections. It provided us a palate pleasing contrast. We spent the night at the vineyard via harvest hosts. It was a beautiful sunset in the arms of the grape vines.

The tasting room is so pretty here, especially decorated for Christmas. I've tasted here before on a weekend and was blown away that there were four flights to choose from. This time there were two. The wine is reasonably priced and tastings are waived with a bottle purchase (2 bottles purchased to waive the reserve tasting). This time I headed in about an hour before closing and felt rushed by the staff despite there being several other people still tasting in the room. The patio area is beautiful and I may try again in summer.

The staff is super nice. The tasting room was great! I enjoyed the Zins but I’m not sure we would come back and visit. Although we spoke to people that really love all of the wines here, we felt it wasn’t our favorite. I think it’s a matter of taste, but worth a try as I know they work hard to produce!

We were very pleased with the selections here. Our server was very helpful in finding the wine we liked. We ended up buying 1/2 a case! She also helped us find other area wineries we might like. All-in-all, a great experience with a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and great wine!

Klinker Brick never disappoints. The wine tastings are amazing. The customer service is wonderful. We arrived within a half hour of closing and they accommodated us. Our friends were amazed by the quality of the wine and the beauty of the locale. 10/10 recommend.

We had a complete blast tasting wine with host, Brennan last Tuesday, 1-30-24. My wife's favorite was the best, most balanced semi-sweet white I've ever had called Vorganger, and mine was the Old Ghost. Of course we had to join their wine club! Thanks for a perfect time, Brennan! Klinker Brick is a great place to experience Lodi wine - my favorite wine in the world!

Great value wine tasting. We did the $10 tasting and got to try 7 amazing wines they produce. The location is gorgeous and the attention, superb. Will be back and will.tell others visiting our AirBnB in Stockton about it too.

Nice winery tasting venue, beautiful patio so you can taste outside or inside. You get to pick a flight ranging from $10, $15, or $20 for 6 tastes. Good idea is to share different flights. The wines range from light dry Albarino to full bodied reds. We like the Old Ghost Zinfandel, Farrah Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon the best. Prices for the wines are very reasonable.
The only drawback is very little attention from the staff if you like to ask questions about the grapes and the specific wines but there are answers on the website which we accessed during the tasting. The offer deli style bites also reasonably priced.

We picked a great day to visit Klinker Brick Patio - Mild 72 degrees on July 9th! Our first time here, we will definitely be back. We had exceptional service from our server, Heather. We throughly enjoyed the bubbles, the wine and the live music!

Stopped in during a work trip to the area. Friendly staff and great wine. Absolute steal for the quality you're getting. Old Ghost is probably one of the best zins I've ever had. My winemaker father would agree.
The California State Capitol Museum is a long-standing museum that documents the history of California in exhibits, artifacts, and more. The grounds of the Capitol are considered to be one of the most beautiful state capitol grounds in the country.
Clean and beautiful. I didn't go inside as I thought I've been to the one in WA DC, so let's save time for something else. However, I was awestruck by the lush green and delightfully fragrant orange trees laden with ripe fruits. They line the pathways and stand tall against the tall palms and buildings in the background. They smell lovely. The rose garden is also breathtaking, there are many varieties. Some people were there to take wedding pictures and Instagram videos, because it's so warm, beautiful and pleasant here. There are hummingbirds hovering above the salvia bushes also. Love this lovely place!
Limitless — Google review
Bad impression at first: the museum is closed. All of it. The rooms, the tours, the store - shut down. This is my third capital building and the least inviting. Every door was closed. If it wasn't for the open session and beautiful architecture, I would have been sorely disappointed. I was able to sit upstairs and listen in on the session which was a treat. I felt a measure of restored faith in humanity. They questioned finance on expenditures and voiced their concerns regarding project deadlines. All without trying to win a vote or hidden agenda. I'm not even a resident in this state, but to hear these politicians speaking up on behalf of the citizens was a breath of fresh air. If you have an hour, take the time and listen in.
Side note: they have wall display cases for each county. Some are elaborate, some a simple and some are a disaster. It's the capital building - do better.

Title: A Historic Gem in Sacramento
The California State Capitol in Sacramento is an absolute must-visit for anyone passing through or residing in the area. As a history enthusiast, I found this landmark to be a treasure trove of political and architectural significance.
The majestic architecture of the Capitol building itself is enough to capture your attention from afar. Upon entering, you're greeted with beautifully maintained grounds and gardens, providing a serene atmosphere amidst the bustling city.
Inside, the rich history of California unfolds through informative exhibits and guided tours. From the legislative chambers to the governor's office, every corner echoes with the stories of past decisions that shaped the state's destiny.
The highlight of my visit was witnessing democracy in action as I observed a legislative session. It's a humbling experience to see the intricate workings of our government firsthand.
Whether you're a history buff, a political aficionado, or simply seeking a tranquil escape in the heart of Sacramento, the California State Capitol delivers an unforgettable experience. Don't miss the chance to immerse yourself in the legacy of this iconic institution.

Great place to enjoy the parades. Went there for the first time and it was a nice experience. They are some beautiful status and great pieces of art to see. 👏

It's a state capital, full of history, its free. My children love to run around here, my older children and myself got an opportunity to watch the State Assembly in session, that was pretty amazing to see how it all worked. It's beautiful inside and out. Last we went they are doing construction so we only saw about half of the capital. It's worth a visit.

Video should make you giggle but I was serious. I had a great tour of the capital. Security was a breeze. There are some reconstruction happening so beware if that. It was wonderful to see the old offices but I was most impressed with the chambers. I didn’t get to see any actual legislative personnel but I got inspired. You can find paintings of all the known governors of California. Never been a black one, apparently. You’ll love the architecture and strong feel to the building. It’s like a bunker. There’s security and guides all over so you won’t get totally lost. The cafe was closed when I visited. I did get to visit the store. I decided to grab a tie.

It’s beautiful and majestic, well maintained. Visiting this place could help us to have a better understanding about the United States history and how the government employment work back then. It’s renovating different sections of the building so very limited areas we can see. I’m glad we went there.

I really liked that there is a transparency and openness when you come to a Capitol. First, check what are the operating hours. I took a tour at about 12pm. The guide was a very friendly and emotional person. He told amazing facts about California and capitol itself. Just keep in mind many parking lots in downtown are not free.

The number one tourist place in Sacramento, CA, is the State Capitol. As the state capital, it is full of rich history. The entrance is free, and both the interior and exterior are exceptionally beautiful. It is definitely worth a visit, as you can have great historical experiences here. They offer free tours, but it's advisable to check their website for specific days and times. If you're in Sacramento, don't miss the opportunity to visit this wonderful building. The pictures on the walls depict the history of senators. The building is maintained perfectly, and the architecture is commendable!

We were visiting Sacramento and decided to check out the California State Capitol. It was built in a Neoclassical style by prominent architect Reuben S. Clark in 1874. At one corner there is a Capital Mall and on another side, there is Capitol Park. The Capitol Museum is on the grounds of the Capitol. It is free to enter on weekdays.
We couldn't enter the museum because it was a weekend, so we roamed around the park. Remember to check out the website before visiting about closures and reservations.
The Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail spans a distance of 32 miles and is a popular paved pathway frequented by pedestrians, joggers, and cyclists alike. Notable for its stunning views of the river and parkland scenery, this area is certainly worth visiting.

Our wine pouring guy (Rocco) was terribly rude. Had a super negative attitude and probably should consider another job. Wines were just ok! Definitely nothing exciting. The Sangiovese was actually good but with the sourness of Rocco, it was hard to fully enjoy. If you do pay them a visit, definitely sit outside to avoid the bitterness of Rocco.

We belong to the wine club here. Jeff is somewhat unique in that he doesn't have any vineyards. He buys his grapes from select vineyards in the area and produces what we think is excellent wine. We visited the tasting room during their annual sale to take advantage of better pricing on larger quantities of wine. The staff is always cordial and it is generally a fun time. Unfortunately, I had to stop at a couple of tastings because I needed to drive home.

The space that the winery has for degustation is incredible, but the structure makes it a little but noisy. The wine are not premium. The people is so nice there but they commented us that they winery has been sold and next week will change its name and they will be selling in whole sale. They have nice variety of cheeses, crackers. The outside looked incredible but we were there in a rainy day and even in a rainy day looks like an amazing activity. The prices for the degustation are $5, $10 or $15 per person, pretty razonable and affordable.

The tasting room sells a variety of cheese, would fit any wine. Our tasting experience was good (albeit not quick) , and we happily got a couple bottles. Seems a bit to sterile though, no warm and welcoming atmosphere you get at many wineries.

Sadly, Renwood is closing after 25 years. We’ve only been members for 5 years but they have been great. We LOVE the wines - esp. the Wine Club Zins. The food’s always great, etc. A lot of good people will be leaving - hopefully to work at other area wineries. Jessica you’re awesome.
The bar has been set very high for Rombauer. Best of success to them in taking over the winery and putting their own spin on things. Great grapes and staff and methods = awesome wine. We look forward to visiting you down the road.

Their wine has improved so. damn. much. I was very impressed how the quality has improved over the past few years. And I am not saying that it was bad before, but it is a testament with what their new winemaker has been able to accomplish. I was impressed! So you can just go there for the great wine, but the actual tasting room was quite nice, as well. I like the newish remodel that was done a couple of years back and how they incorporated a restaurant style eating area there. They only draw back is the room can be quite echo-y, meaning when you hear the cackle of a pack of cougars who got lost coming down from Helwig and decided to stop here, it can be quite piercing on the ear drums. Not Renwoods fault though. I recommend going outside if this happens, which is okay because the grounds are simply beautiful and the wine is fantastic!
This outfitter was amazing! They have every detail dialed for the perfect experience whether this is your first time rafting or a seasoned rafter. I was impressed with their service while booking, the detailed pre trip survey for guests, their informative pre trip email and video, and their safety briefing at the beginning of the tour. Their gear was in excellent condition and they had a great flow for picking up gear. Their leaders were top notch. They were personable, entertaining, a wealth of knowledge and skilled river guides. I would recommend O.A.R.S to my closest friends and family and anyone looking for a great experience. Their lunch buffet catered to vegetarians and vegans as well, which sealed the deal for me!

OARS really has their act together and it's apparent that they are a professional organization. We did a full day raft trip, The Gorge, over Labor Day weekend and it was as good as it could have been, especially with our guide, RC (thanks for the warning about the shallows and the rocks, RC!). We camped two nights at their campground, which isn't ON the river, but just a short walk away. The campground is cool in that there is a good level of privacy from one site to the next. Also, they have flush toilets in a clean restroom, warm showers, a camp store on site (with ice!) and friendly staff. Oh, and wifi too, closer to the camp store and outdoor kitchen (and strong 5G signal from ATT). If you're new to rafting, this is the place to go; they'll take care of you.

My Wife and I had an amazing time white water rafting on the middle fork of the American River on Sunday. The trip included 16 miles on the river enjoying beautiful views of nature with some pretty exciting class 4 rapids along the way.
At the start of the day, our first class 4 rapid called Tunnel Chute followed by eight additional rapids during the day, with lunch provided during mid day.
Garrett our guide, along with the other two guides, Garrett and Kendal were amazing sharing their knowledge of the local area, guiding us thru the river, having fun, and preparing an outstanding lunch, which included a variety of lunch meats, condiments, veggies, fruit, snacks, and cookies out in nature for a group of 20 people…Yummy and filling for the second half of the day.
Good time by everyone on the trip!

Did the North Fork & South Fork American River rafting and camped each night before. Thumbs up to some exceptional guides! Garret made me feel at home at the campground, Jordan gave a skilled tour of North Fork, and Kate came in on her bday & gave an exceptionally fun ride in the Gorge! Amanda was very helpful getting all my logistics figured out. I appreciated going on the water with such a professional company.

I did the Middle Fork with Margaret and the South Fork with Garrett. They were both exceptional. Margaret did an awesome job running the river and handled epic sections like Tunnel Chute with ease. Garrett did an equally impressive job on the South Fork, making sure that everyone was safe and was having a good time. I also camped at the outpost and for $15/night it's a bargain (hot showers, flush toilets, drinking water, direct river access, etc).

We LOVE OARS and the knowledgeable and safe staff. The guides are always very kind and easy to talk to and we have been a few times with this company so far. The North Fork of the American river is by far my favorite as far as a go go go rapids trip. Bummed there was no photographers for this locations. But the south Fork had some very intense moments as well and had camera men stationed so you could get professional pictures which came out UNBELIEVABLE!!!! WE LOVE OARS

The Middle and South Forks of the American River were an absolute blast, I would have been happy with any of the guides I experienced, and was impressed with their knowledge, safety, and verve. The meals were fresh and delicious, and OARS campground and glamping were lovely.
Great experience on Chili-bar express trip. We were a party of 11, and went in two boats. We had a great time on the rafts, swimming in the "safe" rapids which was scary and exhilarating, and sitting in the front of the boat and "riding the bull".
The lunch afterwards was outstandingly good considering that we were vegetarians: veggie burgers, yummy water melons, chips, cookies, etc. All the kids also loved the lunch. We watched our photos and videos during lunch and they came out very nicely.
On the whole, we really enjoyed the day, and strongly recommend Beyond Limits. The price was great too.
Out guides Don and Alex kept the kids and adults engaged.

Loved loved loved our river guides. Ziggy was a badass and river goddess! We were three families with our 5 children in tow. We ALL had a blast on the river, they accommodated our cuckoo diets-mix of meats eaters, vegetarians and gluten-free folks, and we loved camping next the river (perfect sound for falling asleep) but they also had SUPER clean bathrooms, patios to lounge on, grassy areas to play. So worth the $$$!

Our church put together a group rafting trip scheduled on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 1:00PM - 5:00PM, and we had a total of 34 people utilizing six rafts.
In my raft we had six people plus our wonderful guide, Lee! He was awesome! Thank you Lee for doing such a great job getting us down the South Fork of the American River safely and making sure we all had a wonderful time! (Our group had people aging from seven to 63 years old).
Lee also made sure we had great video shots at the best rapids, with two different viewpoints. One view was the forward facing angle from the rear of the raft showing everyone from behind paddling through the rapids and the other was from the front of the raft pointing toward everyone in the raft as we hurled down the rapids! There are also photographer's on the river taking photo's at different rapids too.
Of course these are available for you to purchase at an additional cost. They offer packages that include both the photo's and the video or you can purchase them separately.
NOTE: You can bring a bottle of water/Gatorade/etc., a small bottle of sunscreen, and a hat to wear as well as your waterproof camera (with a strap to secure it to your wrist) and/or a GoPro camera. No small coolers, etc.
I suggest you leave your phone in your vehicle regardless if it's water resistant or not. There's a good chance you'll lose it. Wear water/tennis shoes, loose fitting clothing and/or a bathing suit with shorts (women), especially with material that dries quickly, sunglasses INCLUDING A STRAP (especially if they're prescription glasses) to keep them secure in case you happen to fall out of the raft!
Remember, river water is cooler than lake water and moves fast in most places. You'll be provided a life jacket to wear, don't worry. ENJOY YOURSELF!
This is a Class III Rapid

Fun times! We had a really fun trek down a part of the American River. A glitch in their communications had us show up and hour early. Fortunately we were able to start earlier because the other group showed up 1/2 an hour early. Guide was good. We came close but no one "left" the raft. :-)

Had a superb day out on the south fork of the American River with our guide, Lee and Beyond Limits Adventure. Well organized and customer focused, I would recommend the trip highly. From rock splats to rock 360s, Lee kept the day exciting and was always engaged to ensure that our group aged 10 to 50 had a great time.

One of our worries this trip was the fear of not enough water for rafting, but those fears were soon dissipated when we saw the upper stretch of the South Fork of American River. Plenty of water.
There was eleven of us in our family adventure ranging in age from 15 to 71 (me) and everywhere in between. We were greeted by our guides, who gave us a rundown on what to expect on the river, and instructed us on safety procedures. Then we were off!
We had two rafts for our party, which allowed us to wage many splash battles between rafts, and in short order we were all pretty wet and we hadn't even hit the first set of rapids yet. A note of warning! Don't even think of splashing the guides. It seems as if they have the ability of lifting half the river on the blade of their paddles and expertly flinging it in any direction with an accuracy that would make an F-16 pilot blush with envy. BUT....I know you will do it anyway.
Our guides, Jay and Mike were both friendly and well-versed with the river and its' various rapids and provided us with just possibly the best time we have ever had on the American River. From virgin rafter to my sixth time on the American river over a span of several years, this was the best, even with the river not at its' fullest. If you have the right guides, and we did, then they can make Class 3 rapids feel like Class 4 rapids. We were doing 360's through the rapids, deftly climbing rocks and rolling off of them, and having a great, exciting time. Looking around, we could tell that every other river adventurer had wished they booked their trip with us.

Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is a bucolic riverside site that holds historical significance for California. It features more than 20 mining buildings, including a replica of Sutter's Mill where James Marshall discovered gold, which sparked the Gold Rush. Visitors can buy tickets at the museum to learn about the history of the area before exploring various buildings like the blacksmith's and Chinese store. Additionally, visitors can try their hand at gold panning on-site.
Had a great visit with our family today. Definitely time your trip to take the tour. They offered it at 11am & 1pm from the souvenir shop. We also did a gold panning lesson where we all enjoyed finding small flakes of gold. It was fun to learn about the history of the area and the beginning of the gold rush. Lots of walking paths to the different exhibits. We had a satisfying lunch at the cafe. In all, we spent about 5 hours there. Definitely a great day!

Great place to have a family hike, see indoor and outdoor historical artifacts, bring a picnic basket and have lunch, visit museums, and pan for gold. There is so much to do here, we weren't able to see everything in the time allotted. There are parking lots for a reasonable fee or one can park street side but that could be a bit risky. There are plenty of picnic tables all over the place. The gold panning has a $10 fee per person panning and has a time limit of about 45 minutes, there is a brief instruction on how to pan for gold by one of the State park rangers or volunteers. Kids liked this gold panning the best. We'd come back here again.

This is my families go to spot to relax and have a brew. Usually we go during the weekdays when we have basically the entire place to ourselves, sometimes we go on weekends when there's live bands and food trucks. No matter what it's a good time. Half concrete patio with lights and planters for adults and half grass area more friendly for kiddos to run around in. The flower planters, Edison lights, and concrete patio ambiance is extraordinary!

A wonderful local favorite making great beers and ciders. If you're in Apple Hill, you should drop by for a pint when you're there and a growler to go. It's impossible to go wrong here, everything is GOOD.

Fun spot.
Very large property, plenty of room for the kids to run around and create havoc, without getting into to much trouble.
We mainly stuck with the beer selection, but you could tell they also had a great selection of ciders, wines, and meads.
I think the food choices change out regularly, these were also fairly tasty as we had a little bit of everything.
Was surprised, but shouldn't have been when the tender behind the bar had said that they had been around since 1996.
I'm only able to visit about once a year since I don't live in the area, but would definitely come back again and check this place out, we'll worth it

Dog friendly breweries is where it’s at. Our bartender was helpful and we had the peach and blackberry ciders. Inside, there is a stage so I’m sure there’s live music. Tried the red wine as well. Even the drive up there was beautiful. This is mid March and there’s still so much snow!

This place has been a wonderful escape from the Sacramento area for my wife and I for many years. This last trip up was no exception! The beer and cider options are fantastic! The staff is always incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! They really make it such a relaxing and chill way to enjoy the peacefulness of the area. And now that they've finished the inside seating area, this place will be even more enjoyable during the colder and rainy months! The crowlers are always a great gift and a hit when we bring them back for family!

Great spot for a warm day outside with a beer. The beer is decent but the variety isn't great. My favorite was their Vanilla stout.
The shining start of Jack Russell is the huge outdoor space. It's worth a stop if you're in the area.

This place has a very good peach ale.
But, alas, the Jack Russell passed 2 years prior. Now they have two labradoodles.
Now, back to the beer. The peach ale has a string essence of peach.
Nice grounds that are scenic and trip be enjoyed in all weather but especially when the sun is out.
Make this one of your spots.
Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park offers camping, fishing, hiking trails and an opportunity to explore Gold Rush-era buildings. The park is a testament to the determination of gold seekers who used hydraulic mining to carve cliffs in the landscape. The area has a mesmerizing ghost town with a barber shop, ice-cream parlor and saloon that are now abandoned but provide an insight into California's history.
Very interesting piece of California History. We met one of the park ranger who was very knowledgeable. And then such a beautiful landscape.

Beautiful area, not spectacular by any means but still a very nice place to hike. The woman working at the museum was informative and kind. Very quiet, I didn’t run into a single person on the trails.

I came up for a 3 day weekend starting Friday. The drive was good, beautiful scenery, and the campsite was super clean.
Within an hour of being there, a mama bear and her two cubs wandering into the camp. I gave them all the space and left for a while. Two hours later she returned. This mama bear is not afraid of people and looking for food. I would not suggest visiting this camp site for a while to give the bears some space. I actually left but plan to come back in the future. It has a lot of trails and it's nice a quiet.

Awesome place to take the family out to do some exploring for the afternoon. The area is rich in mining history there's a cool museum to wander through in town. Nice place just to hang out for the afternoon and picnic and wander town..

From absolutely beautiful dirt walking trails traversing the old hydralic mine remnants of a yesteryear;6 to the good times of "Humbug Days" and the annual town celebration this little mountain gem still holds some recreational "gold" in its park preserved splendor. Check out the old drain tunnel for a really cool adventure and be on the look out for Humbug Days with the firing of a real cannon, crafting, BBQ and local vendors. It's a hoot!
The historic museum is small but well worth a visit, the gold records are hard to fathom... Still a lot left in them hills!

Campground is well maintained with flush toilets and sinks in the bathrooms. Lots of shade. Bears are active so everything with a smell has to go into the bear box provided day and night. Mosquitoes started at 6:15 and were around until after dark. We were glad we had head nets. Off worked.

Take a weekend to get to know the history of the town of Humbug and the historical significance of the Malakoff Diggins. We're going to be making this wonderful place a regular stop on our road adventures.

The history here is pretty amazing! It really shows you the distraction that mining had on the landscape. It’s really fun to go see the old town of humbug. The museum was fun to walk through. The trail that takes you down to the Diggins is really well-maintained I’m pretty sure you could even take someone in a wheelchair. The park has a lot of charm and it was worth the drive.

Nice campground. Sites are spacious with table and fire pit.
Restrooms were clean with toilet, sink, mirror and soap dispenser.
Nice hikes out of the campground and good views from the overlook at the far end of the campground.
During the week the place was nearly empty, so very peaceful and quiet.
Closest store is about 20 minutes away, so come prepared.

This place is so cool! I think my favorite part was checking out the tunnel! It was a pretty warm day and just going next to the tunnel, the temp dropped about 10 degrees so it was a nice place to get cool and check out an amazing part of this town's history 😊 All other trails were fun and very interesting as well!

This is a former hydraulic water mining operation. It has not been in use for decades but is now run by the California State Parks. The mine was founded in 1851 when the mine and village was known as Humbug, later to become North Bloomfield in 1859.
Hydraulic water mining became popular when Placerining was beginning to fade. This hydraulic water mining was easier but the process of shooting powerful jets at the land to break it down to find gold was devastating environmentally, causing dirt and rocks to be washed downstream or dumped on the land below the mine. Trees and plants and farmlands were destroyed. Large mounds of this runoff covers the land and these areas are known as the digging.
The Malakoff Diggens are hidden up in the Sierra Nevada foothills. It is an intentional destination.
The best part was the 'ghost town' of a general store, barber shop, drugstore, ice cream parlor, church, schoolhouse, saloon, etc that was abandoned overnight when the mine closed.
There are park rangers but a slim number. However, they were very accommodating.
Plenty of parking is available. Camping is allowed.
Vikingsholm is a famous historical landmark located in Lake Tahoe, which can be visited from Memorial Day through late September. The manse boasts 38 rooms and offers tours to the public. During winter, the castle is closed, but visitors can still enjoy a snowshoe down to the bay for spectacular views. Additionally, there is a public beach area nearby. A hike down to Vikingsholm Tavern and up to the top of the falls provides scenic views worth experiencing before sunset.
We went on a family trip to Lake Tahoe. It was an easy trail even with our 1-year-old. It lead to a lovely view of the bay.

A really beautiful place to visit in Tahoe. An amazing piece of historical interest. I would recommend getting to the parking area as early as possible as the spaces are limited. The hike down to Vikingsholm isn't bad, but note that it is a mile long (so it's a two mile round trip) with an elevation change of about 1000 feet. I highly recommend visiting this site.

My family and I loved doing some hiking down in Emerald Bay to visit the mysterious Castle in the woods. There’s a very small parking lot and the do charge. I think it was around $10 for parking. There’s a large path it zigzags down the mountain to go visit the castle. It is mostly gravel and dirt, you may slip if you’re walking too fast. Make sure to use the bathroom before hand because although they have an outhouse at the bottom of the hill. It may have been the worst smelling outhouse I have ever smelled in my life. Don’t forget that Lake Tahoe is basically a lake of melted ice, so that was the coldest water I have ever swam in, but after about 15 minutes, I finally decided to get in and it was quite invigorating. We all had a great time as a family and enjoy the beach and the sun. They also have guided tours available of the castle now which I can’t wait to do on our next trip.

Honestly, this historical structure looks more attractive in the pictures than in person. I did not take the inside tour but there were some repairs going on for the exterior walls. It was possibly operational.
Main attraction around the area is the Emerald Bay beach and the wonderful views during the hike. This place has a steep hike of around a mile downward. I loved the huge trees and unique looking tree barks around Vikingsholm.

A beautiful but VERY steep hike to view Vikingsholm. Unfortunately the building was closed when we visited, but it was still impressive to wander around the area and take another short hike to the waterfalls nearby. Parking costs $10 in the lot, and there seems to always be a bit of a wait.

Lovely Scandinavian inspired home in Emerald Bay. Get there early as parking fills up fast. You will need to hike almost a mile to access the home. Ticket booth opened at 10 am and first tour is 10:30 am. Enjoyed learning the history from the very knowledgeable guide! Tickets are $18 per adult but it goes to help with maintenance and restoration projects for Vikingsholm.

We parked and took the 1 mile trail down. It’s a steep trail, going down was fine but going back up took us twice as long. Bring water, there is no water once you make it down. At the castle is a private beach, lots of paths to hike and walk, a gift shop, and waterfalls! Absolutely beautiful here. The restrooms were clean but non flushing toilets.

So we didn't go on the tour so I can't give an honest rating so I'll go with a 3. The house is beautiful though. We hiked in from DL Bliss and the water fountain on the side of the house was a great place to stop.off out water bottles for the hike back to Bliss. The location is amazing though so I can see why someone would want that there. Some folks told us the hike down from the parking lot was pretty rough...I imagine they changed their minds having to go back up lol.

Great visit Sunday, June 12th, 2022, in a pouring, wind whipped rain. Only about half full parking lot. Tours of inside every hour only $15 (summer only?). We skipped the tour, but loved the hike outside to the dock and the amazing lower eagle falls. Least busy during bad weather. Bring umbrella and visit during heavy 🌧️.

Vikingholm is an old castle that was built in the late 1860's. It was a vacation home built on the shores of Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe. This is accessed by foot or by boat. This place is gorgeous! Call ahead to see when they have tours. I don't know the pricing since we were on our boat and just cruised by.

One of the main attractions of Emerald Bay State Park is the stunning Scandinavian architecture called Vikingsholm. It is a 38 room mansion on the shore of Lake Tahoe. The 1.7-mile trail to reach Vikingsholm offers breathtaking views. It's important to note that the mansion closes at 4.30pm—we missed it since we arrived after 5pm. The architectural marvel of Vikingsholm adds a unique charm to the park. Next time, I'll plan better to tour the interior, but the natural beauty and the trail alone made it a memorable experience. Don't miss this gem if you're a fan of nature and architecture!

During my visit to Vikingsholm in Lake Tahoe with my daughter, we had an amazing time exploring the area. The weather was cloudy, but it added a nice and crisp atmosphere to our hike. We started by hanging out on the beach, enjoying the serene surroundings and the sound of the waves. The hike to the waterfall was truly breathtaking, with the cascading water creating a mesmerizing sight.
As we made our way back, we took a wrong turn and got a bit lost. However, we didn't mind at all because we were engrossed in a wonderful conversation, appreciating the beauty of nature around us. Luckily, we quickly found our way back on track.
One thing I noticed about the trail is that it is wide and easily accessible, making it suitable for elderly people and those with disabilities. This inclusivity is commendable and allows everyone to enjoy the beauty of Vikingsholm. Additionally, having a bathroom at the bottom of the trail was quite convenient.
Overall, our experience at Vikingsholm was unforgettable. From the beach to the waterfall and the enjoyable hike, it provided us with a perfect opportunity to bond and appreciate the wonders of nature together.

This is a great way to start your day in the Tahoe area. I recommend getting to the parking lot before 8:30AM, otherwise you might not get a parking spot. The hike is a little more advanced than we thought, but it is a wide trail and well maintained. A lot of history, beautiful places to take pictures, and relax on the beach while kids play in the water. My only complaint is that individuals feel the need to mark their territory by craving their name/initials on trees. Please leave no trace.

If you would like to visit Lake Tahoe by doing a hike this is the place. Is a one mile downhill with a 1,000 ft elevation. A reminder that one mile downhill you will have to hike up with a 1,000 ft elevation. Once you arrive at the base you can sit at the beach or on one of the many benches they have. The hours to tour the house are between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. They also have a gift shop if you are interested in buying memorabilia. The gift shop sells water and a small selection of snacks.

I stayed at this amazing resort for a week for my skiing trip with my cousins and my aunt and uncle. It was awesome. There was so much to do and the area was beautiful. Actually I have an awesome story. So when we were there, the snow covered everything and the outdoor hot tubs all had a barrier of snow. Me, my little cousin, and some other people were in the hot tub right next to another one. And basically the other hot tub engaged in war with us, and another hot tub nearby. It got pretty heated, I even made alliances with the other hot tub that was also being attacked by the one next to us. Soon we destroyed the hot tub that started it and they fled into the pool. Honestly this was an amazing experience I hope I can go again this year! We spent Christmas here as well

Overall, we enjoyed our experience. The views are amazing and there was a decent amount and variety of terrain. We went on a day where temps got up into the mid 50s and the snow was definitely slushy and sticky in spots. Multiple lifts were also closed, further limiting options. On the plus side, there were very few crowds on a weekday, so lift wait times were great. Overall, I would come back, but never at full price, as I feel like the value proposition is not there, especially during the spring and with less slopes open.

This is a glorious place to spend a day skiing. It consistently rates as the best resort in Northern California. As a bonus you can also ski Alpine which is also a top resort and arguably more enjoyable given its smaller crowds and local feel. Both resorts are stunningly beautiful with an abundance of terrain to explore. Tips up!

My Wife and I stayed here and we were definitely impressed. The resort is first class, we rented the fireplace Suite which was perfect. As soon as you pull up the valet guys are right there to greet you. We walked in the front doors to a beautiful lobby complete with a fireplace and plenty of lounge areas. The restaurants were nice, food and drinks were great.
They have a ski lift there. We did not experience that as we took lessons in the Village. The pools are all heated and There are multiple hot tubs around them to relax in. Outside there are fireplaces, a waterfall, and plenty of places to just sit and relax. If you get the chance to visit, We highly recommend!

Palisades Tahoe marketed their slopes as being open. But only about 10% of the runs were open. Yet, they're still charging $200/day for a lift ticket. I definitely didn't get my money's worth, despite driving for God knows how many hours to get here. All of the people working here were great. Just their businesses practices are less than stellar.
Tristan Heberlein — Google review
I had a good time, and was quite impressed at the lack of lines/speed of lifts. Even on a Saturday, with the parking lot full, I barely experienced any waits on the alpine lifts.
The intermediate terrain felt quite limited though. I basically just did the same run through the central valley of the mountain over and over again, which wasn’t terribly fun with all the beginner traffic.
The terrain was a 2-3 star at best, the 4 star rating is because of the amazing logistics. Gondola and lots of fast lifts made for positive overall experience. I wouldn’t specifically make a trip to this place, but if I was in the region I’d definitely come back.

We went to visit my brother in Truckee and were able to spend three days skiing. The resort is well maintained, beyond beautiful scenery, great restaurants, shops, and the skiing is phenomenal. The only drawback is the layout. For beginners, the resort is laid out somewhat poorly. The greens are typically closer to the bottom whereas here they are quite a ways up and hard to navigate which can quickly become problematic. Loved all the options though from the runs to the shopping, etc. Will definitely be back!

Big, big, ski resort. It has an incredible variety of ski trails, wonderful views of the mountains and a very helpful friendly staff. It is also very expensive! You pay for everything. Some of the season passes offer a good value if you have the schedule to take advantageous of them. The gondola rides are enjoyable for even the non skiers.

Great terrain, great snow, and the resort is often open and accessible when others are not. The resort staff is friendly and their efforts to keep things going in all conditions is very visible and makes a considerable difference to the great benefit of all guests. The lift lines move quickly and there is plenty of parking that’s orderly and organized which translates into more time on the slopes. With such a great spot a person would normally keep quiet and keep it to themselves but I think the word is already out. This is where you wanna be, especially if you want more challenging and fun terrain with consistent deep powder days.

Palisades is a world class ski resort for a reason. It's definitely not a mountain for beginners learning to ski, but there are a few green runs that would be fine for practice. We frequent Shirley Lake and Granite Chief, which has a great mix of advanced blues and challenging black runs. It can get crowded, so we make sure we're on time for first chair. Alpine Meadows is a hidden gem; less crowded than Palisades with gorgeous, wide open runs all over the mountain. The Base to Base gondola rarely has a line and is really convenient to be able to traverse both mountains. Chamois is a classic for aprés but definitely fills up after last chair, and Wildflour has great cookies for an end of day treat.

Eagle Rock Trailhead offers easy access and free parking, making it a convenient starting point for a short hike with stunning panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. The trail is less than a mile long, providing hikers with some of the best vistas on the west shore of the lake. With a moderate difficulty level, the 620-foot climb to Eagle Rock is relatively easy and well worth the effort. The trail isn't usually crowded, offering visitors a peaceful experience in nature.
A nice family hike with great views of Lake Tahoe. The volcanic rocks are relatively easy to navigate, but be careful of the dusty tails. It's easy to slip and sprain an ankle if you're not careful.

Nice winter hike if you're up for hiking in the snow. Most others I saw on the trail had snowshoes. With ordinary boots, you sometimes sink into the snow. It's all part of the adventure! The view of the lake and surrounding mountains at the end made it worth the effort.

Really solid trail that’s not too difficult, pretty quick, and pays off with some great views. Can be a bit dusty/dry when it hasn’t rained for a while, but not really problematic. Up at the top there is plenty of room to check out multiple view points of the lake. Definitely worth the hike if you are in the area and looking for good lake views.

Great trail. Snow has just gone, so fairly easy for the sure footed. Less sure footed people were getting help from their friends/family. Spectacular views from the top as expected.
Please read the trail information board about the indigenous Washoe tribe that used to roam this area - and spare a thought for them.
Didn't give 5 stars because it is inaccessible for some people but the board doesn't say so, so some will be disappointed.

The Eagle Rock Trail is a great trail to hike in Northwest Lake Tahoe. The trail is fairly short only about less than a half mile to the top, and offers great views of Lake Tahoe and the West shore. Highly recommend if in the area, and best on a clear day for the best views.

A must to do when in the area. It just took 10-15 mins to reach the top of Eagle Rock and about 5 mins to climb down.
The view of Lake Tahoe from the top is amazing. Mornings are better due to the sun's direction.
Even while you are approaching the trailhead by car, you'll notice the steep rock on your side. The look is very attractive and makes you wanna go to the top. Trail is slightly steep but very short.

Probably the best bang for your efforts. This hike trail is short, moderately easy, and worth every second of it. Just a short 20 walk gets you to the top of Eagle Rock where you will see the lake from a spectacular view not offered that much. The climb is only 620 ft from where you start, a couple of iffy spots, but easy throughout. Another plus was that it wasn’t crowded. We did happen to see a couple of lovebirds making out high up. It seems like the thing for local kids to do. I found that to be pretty wonderful.

Fantastic views abound up on Eagle Rock, in all directions. It's east facing, so the sunrise is a great time to climb up. The hike is very short and easy. It's a little rocky at the top but not bad at all. Totally worth it! Park on the side of the highway at this location.

A short but rewarding hike. Eagle Rock has a wonderful view of Lake Tahoe. There is some snow on it now, which makes it a little slippery so come prepared. In the summer I would imagine that this would be an easy walk to a magnificent view. :) Dogs are welcome just need to be on a leash.

Beautiful all year round, but the museum is closed during the winter time.
It's free to enter, but guided tours require purchase of tickets.

The place is nice to visit with east trails to follow, picnic tables easily accessible to the water, many lil beach areas that can be perfect for small groups, plenty of shade!

Wow!! Even though we came and hiked here thou the grounds were unofficial closed, this place is True California Gold!! I marveled at the location and grounds. The cabins were Amazing to take in an ponder how beautiful this must have been in the early 1920's.
I recommend coming when the grounds are open and volunteers are present to give you a grander scope of this family's lifestyle and vision.
Don't miss out. Take a journey through lavish history. Cheers and GOD Bless!!

What a cool place to visit. The historic houses are so cool. It’s amazing what they would build over 100 years ago in a remote place. The grounds are clean and well taken care of. They do close all the museums at 4 so get there earlier to see the interior of the houses.

It's a wonderful site and estate. I am glad to see the contributions to conserve the site. It's beautifully maintained and sees more improvements to make it attractive for tourists. We met Ms. Anita, she was kind enough to explain all old fashioned toys which came from different countries. Thanks 🙏 to her for listening to little ones and engaging them.
We saw two bears 🐻 on that day, they were roaming around. Oh, we saw beautiful and naughty squirrels 🐿️, climbing on Ms. Anita's shoulder looks like asking her to offer a treat.

Trails are great and many shaded spots. Gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the water clarity is not as beautiful as other places in Tahoe.

Spent a few hours wandering around this historic site, learning about the developers of the area in bringing tourism to South Lake Tahoe, to the women who played a large role. Visited the museum within the "Lucky" Baldwin home, and the Pope home. There is a mostly shaded path between the back of the homes. The third home, Valhalla, was off limits due to a private event.
I especially loved how "Lucky's" daughter eventually razed the entire hotel to help protect the lake. Highly recommend. There were people who came just to sit in their lawn chairs along the shore as well.
The Pope home had specific hours for tours, so we were unable to enter the home.

A great place to spend some time wandering around. You can see historic cabins and homes. Peek through the windows to see the decorated insides. They also offer tours.

A favorite place of mine! It allows beautiful views of Lake Tahoe while being able to take a look into how some lived over 100 years ago! Beautiful!
Donner Memorial State Park is a vast area that offers various recreational activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, and boating. It also features the Emigrant Trail Museum and a historic monument that tells the story of the Donner Party's challenges. The park staff at the visitor center are helpful in providing information about the place. There are plenty of scenic stops along the lake for morning, afternoon or evening picnics.
I went with my friends for sledding and it didn't disappoint. This park is absolutely beautiful and there's so many activities that you can do! I saw people with their dogs and other people doing snowshoeing and Backcountry ski. I was not able to go to the museum and hike since I was in a group, but will definitely come back for more!

This is such a beautiful place to visit!! The beach is gorgeous with clear lake water and the views is amazing. The water obviously is a bit cold so be aware of that in cause you go swimming. There is a playground, a snack shop, restrooms. You do have to pay an entrance fee. I think it was about $10-12 to get in and for kids and seniors it’s less. But I highly recommend this beautiful place. Lastly is parking is always a bit of a struggle. So keep that in mind. You will need to wait a bit to find a spot.

It's beautiful in winter, lots of snow. Though you can get your leg stuck in the snow in as deep as 2 or 3 feet. But I still love this place and highly recommend coming :)

We had driven by the park dozens of time on trips from the west coast. We have since moves but had occasion to pass by the park once again and decided to make it a stopping point. We enjoyed the hike to and along Donner Lake. The park staff at the visitors center were helpful and attentive. Understanding the Donner party story better gave us an appreciation for the challenges of the time. This is a beautiful part of the Western United States.

Fun place to visit for a history buff like myself. It's crazy to see a place with such a unbelievable sequence of events. The thing is that you get to set foot in the exact location where the dinner family tried to survive the winter. It is tough to imagine this place being I. The middle of nowhere because you have a major highway and train tracks within ear distance. Having said that, it was well worth the ten bucks.

Enjoyed the few minutes we had before the park closed. With just the snow on the ground, it's still hard to imagine snow 22ft deep and trying to pass through that area. A nice memorial for the tragedy and hardship they endured. Hope to return to again to see the trails and museum.

Exploring History and Nature at Donner Memorial State Park
Visiting Donner Memorial State Park was an enriching experience that combined a deep dive into history with the beauty of nature. This park is not just a place for outdoor activities; it's a site of historical significance with an impressive museum and an inviting gift shop.
The museum at the park is a standout feature. It offers a comprehensive and respectful portrayal of the Donner Party's story, providing a poignant and educational glimpse into a significant chapter of American history. The exhibits are well-curated and engaging, making it a great history lesson for visitors of all ages.
The staff at the park deserves a special mention for their knowledge and friendliness. They were eager to share information and answer questions, enhancing our understanding and appreciation of the park and its history. Their passion for the park and its story was evident and contagious.
The park itself is a beautiful place to explore. With well-maintained trails and scenic views, it’s a perfect setting for a day of outdoor activities. Whether you're interested in hiking, picnicking, or simply enjoying the tranquility of nature, the park offers something for everyone.
The gift shop at the park was a delightful surprise. It's filled with a variety of interesting and unique items, making it easy to find a special souvenir to remember your visit.
In conclusion, Donner Memorial State Park is a must-visit for anyone interested in American history, nature, or just looking for a peaceful day out. The combination of a well-presented museum, friendly staff, and beautiful natural surroundings makes for a memorable and educational experience. I highly recommend taking the time to explore all that this park has to offer.

Came down from Canada to live some Donner party realness. Read 12 books before I arrived. And now I'm here! A self guided tour about the Donner party, the chinese and the indigenous people.
I didnt really feel like they had the questions to my answers but they sure tried hard to find out.
We were a little disappointed at how the indigenous people were depicted. Considering they had been here way before the Donners ever arrived.
Beautiful walks, scenery, and views... can be cold and windy, so be prepared.
As a Donner enthusiast I would have liked a little more, a map of the camps would have been helpful.
Overall had a great time, would love to come back, staff was very friendly. I would even love to apply and get a job, so I can share all the information I have on the Donner party with others.

Beautifully maintained park with plenty of tiny beachlets for a family outing at the edge of Donner Lake.Helpful and friendly staff. 3 Clean restroom spaced a long the parking lots. $10. Day use parking $9.00 for seniors. Large informational illustrated signage along the path between parking and lake. Lots of shady tree areas for relief from the sun. Dog friendly !
Picnic lunch by the lake the best afternoon ever.

This is a well-taken care park. Everything is clean. Dogs are, mostly, on leash. Some parts are very close to the highway and its noise but the noise does eventually fades away. Rangers are very kind and resourceful. Great trees and beautiful birds. Bring your favorite mosquito repellent.

If you are any kind of a railroad buff this is a must see and do place on your bucket list. Lots of old locomotives in a variety of railroad cars and a nice historical place. Be run a locomotive program is absolutely worth it. I've done it several times over the last 20 years and there is nothing more fun than driving a diesel locomotive on the tracks. Tell your friends and go experience the place. Stay at the Pullman inn which is very nearby for a good bed and breakfast memory.

Wonderful collection of signature pieces of railroad history. Restoration projects ongoing with a large variety of different cars and locomotives, many of which are operable. Steam locomotive fans will have an operable 0-6-0 very soon which just adds that much more to this wonderful collection. Stop by and enjoy one of the premier railroad museums in California!

Extensive collection of historic rolling stock, though some pieces have no relation to WP or it's relatives
Kevin Feeney — Google review
We had a good visit. Plenty of old rolling stock and nice staff in the gift shop. Two things really impress, the freedom to wander among the engines and cars and climb on some rolling stock and the opportunity to ride in an active engine cab or participate in rail crew activities like coupling and uncoupling cars from engine and control hand switches on tiny switching yard. For the hands on train fan this is very cool stuff. It would be nice if the indoor displays were cleaned up and better lit but for an all volunteer operation it is quite the operation.

Awesome museum with great staff who are very friendly and informative. We did the "rent a train" for my dad's birthday and being able to drive a real locomotive was a dream come true! Would highly recommend this for any train enthusiast. Gift shop is a bit lacking but they were happy to accommodate when we couldn't find the right size shirt..

The Western Pacific Railroad Museum is a nice smaller museum in Portola. It has mostly industrial style trains that would mostly.teanaport goods and people across the U.S. and have since been retired. There are quiet a few trains but none are in prime condition. The cost of $10 per person is a little high in my opinion, $5 a person seems more reasonable. A nice place to pit stop if passing through the area. Can easily see all the trains in an hour or less and some you are able to go inside of.

A yearly must for us locals. It's definitely cold, but always something short, sweet and fun too with the kids..
This year had a new Mr and Ms Claus.. definitely not a home run on Santa for sure..
But I guess I'm just not use to the new one.. the same gentleman has been Santa in all of Portolas Holiday festivities for well over 30 years until he retired his suit and sleigh last year. He has been Santa for not only myself but my older brothers as well as all of our children throughout the years. And idk if anyone can be the man in red quite like he was.
To Mr Dave Rudolph of Old Town Portola California,
thank you for the many years of Holiday Cheer you have to do many of us.. from the time we were children on into the next generation.. I'm glad my kids knew what it was like to have Santa like you..
Enjoy your retirement, it's well deserved.. you'll forever be our Santa Claus.. ❤️🎄

This is a hands-on museum where not only can you climb into the cab of some of the engines. You can also ride on a train, and if you wish, you can schedule a "drive a locomotive" session where you can actually drive one of the two active locomotives around the loop of track in the facility.
There's all sorts of rolling stock including gigantic snowblowers, cranes, caboose, and other rail cars.
The museum offers a fascinating look into the railroad history of the Western United States during its heyday.
Highly recommended for both adults and children.
Anthony Watts — Google review
Good place to buy RR shirts and obscure books. Great stuff if you’re a Foamer. In truth, the caboose ride is lame and not worth the steam and a lot of the old rolling stock can still be found strewn across various rail yards and sidings in the continental United States.
Joseph Mitchell — Google review
If you're a trainhead this is the place for you.
One of the cool things is you can go in and out of old train cars.
You can also go on train rides as many as you want and for an extra amount of money drive a train!
We had a really good time with a little one.
Staff was friendly and all customers were excited to be there.
Heavenly Mountain Resort is a vast and expansive resort located in South Lake Tahoe. It offers various activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and biking along with lodging and dining options. The resort can be easily accessed through the gondola located on Main Street with ample parking space available. Intermediate trails provide an excellent experience while the green ones can get crowded at times.
Heavenly is my favorite Tahoe ski resort, for the combination of terrain, access, and views. I don't love the California base, but the Boulder base and the Stagecoach base are easier to get up and down from. And Boulder has better parking. The lake views are the best, and it has a huge variety of terrain.

What an incredible experience! Well worth the price for the gondola and Tamerak to the top of the mountain, while we would have loved to hike - with the trails closed this was much easier and quicker and the views are out of this world. Some tips: The gift shop when you stop for your photo opportunity has some of the best items you can’t get anywhere else, if you see something you want - buy it. Be mindful of time of day for lighting. All of the pics we took are weird because of shadows and we are squinting. We did the gem panning and while it was cool and well worth the money as our daughter came away with a very full bag, it wasn’t what we expected- it was just a bucket of sand. No real panning for a surprise of the maybe / maybe not. Those working also couldn’t help with what was found, just referred to the sheet. Not sure we would do it again, but happy to do it once.
However that was our only semi not perfect interaction; The people working from check in to leaving was wonderful - great customer service with no impatience everywhere. Very impressive!! Would for sure do this again.

I took my family of four on the Heavenly scenic gondola ride. We spent an absurd amount on tickets, about $350, which was due to seasonal demand. We went in March but I'm sure summer prices would be much less.
The view was really nice going up the mountain, but once we got above the clouds, it was hard to see much of the lake. We had a great time anyway, and I recommend trying it during the snow season at least once. Just try for a clear day to make it more worthwhile!

Heavenly has been in business since December 15, 1955 and has 97 runs and 30 lifts that are spread between California and Nevada and four base facilities. Elevation at the peak is over 10,000 feet.
I was very lucky to live and work very close to Heavenly. The views from the runs and gondola of Lake Tahoe are spectacular.
The are also trails in the off season.
They have a slope for everyone from beginners to experts. Even if you don’t ski take the ride up the slope for the views.

I recently visited Heavenly Mountain Resort and the gondola ride up the mountain was a standout experience. It was likely the longest ride I've taken in the United States, offering breathtaking views as we ascended.
Admittedly, the cost of the ride at $90 per person felt steep, especially since I didn't partake in skiing or snowboarding. I simply went up for the view on a beautiful sunny day. Despite the expense, I must say, the experience was worth it. The panoramic scenery was simply unmatched.
The gondola has two stations where one can stop. The mid-station is a marvel in itself. It's a picturesque spot with a pleasant little walkway, perfect for soaking in the natural beauty of the area. There's also a cafe where you can grab a coffee and some snacks, which adds to the charm of the stop.
From the mid-station, the gondola journey continues up to the top of the mountain. The restaurant and bar at the top are fantastic, offering great food and drinks along with stunning views. It's a cool place to relax and enjoy the mountain atmosphere.
One thing to note is that the ride back down doesn't stop at the mid-station, so it's best to be prepared for that. Overall, the Heavenly Mountain Resort gondola ride is a memorable experience, offering incredible views and a unique way to experience the mountain's beauty. Despite the price, it's an adventure that's well worth it.

Not a destination resort. 1 star only because the view was great on Ridge Run. Everything else was terrible. Wind hold put half of the lifts out of commission (it wasn't even windy). Causing bottlenecks EVERYWHERE (Canyons/Gunbarrel lifts).
Lifts themselves were old quads. For the amount of people, these should ALL be 6-seaters. Facilities mid-mountain were old/needing renovation too. Got 3 runs in the whole day.

The views are certainly Heavenly and the mountain has tons of groomed blue runs along with great black trails. Not much green so keep that in mind. What is frustrating is there are very few maps anywhere and the trials are not well marked. Otherwise a 5 star destination not to be missed

Steep prices but it's totally worth it! The views of the lake are incredible! First stop up is an observation deck that gives an awesome opporttunity for photos. Second stop will take you to the different slopes as welll as the mountain stop restaurant & bar.

Hotel Harveys Lake Tahoe offers stunning lake views, gaming, dining and more. It's affiliated with the Harrah's casino chain and is close to Harvey's Lake Tahoe which has its own entertainment options.
The stay was excellent. The staffing was awesome at accommodating us to change a certain room we wanted. They were also informative. The check in and check out were also quite simple. There wasn’t any loudness and the rooms were clean as well as nice. Rooms were very comfortable. Definitely would recommended to my clients for stays!

Save yourself the trouble. The beds were like sleeping on a concrete floor. The heater in our room was not working, so it was 62 all night with a very thin comforter. The lights in the room were flickering, one completely turned off and stopped working. The room itself is super outdated, not close to what the pictures looked like. There was hair in the “clean” bedsheets. We thought about leaving home a night early because we were so uncomfortable. The rooms and hallways smelled of smoke. We were in the non smoking part of the hotel. We really wanted to enjoy our stay, there casino was great.

The stay was great! Rated overall stay as 5 stars due to the AWESOME service from casino table dealers. Liliana R, Leticia Q from Harveys were so friendly, helpful and extremely entertaining. Josie Dela Cruz (Harrah’s) was also very welcoming, helpful and had a great sense of humor. All the dealers were very welcoming and fun. I would definitely want to go back and be thrilled to sit with ladies even if I don’t win 😂

My wife and I stayed at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe. It was a convenient place to stay when attending a concert on their property. We paid over $500 per night ($1000 for two nights). We checked in late after the concert. Air conditioning didn’t work that night and we found dog food on the floor in the room the next morning. The Bathroom was rough. It was small, the paint was pealing all over the ceiling, and due for a total remodel. We complained and the front counter manager switched our room but refused to offer any compensation for the first night stay. We followed up with the hotel management when we returned home and they promised to look into the situation and get back to me. I never heard back. Tried them again and couldn’t get through. An apology would have been nice and compensation for the first night stay would have been better. They customer service is horrible. I’ll be staying at the Marriott next time.

I am not sure if this place received it’s 4 star rating upon opening or if people are being paid to review high but this place is not worth one star in my opinion. It is very outdated - walls peeling - lights incredibly dim - the room was so tiny it felt cramped . The bathroom was spacious but the bathroom door was clear not very comforting . Our room had a connecting door with no privacy - could see lights and hear everything. No door hanger to deter disturbances like cleaning team. The air hardly worked - I woke up multiple times a night cause the heat . The pool was tiny and not heated as it claims . Hot tub was not working - I specifically choose hotels for hot tubs or not . Beach lake access is down the street but it cost 25$ a person to go . Oh and Harvey’s has a 75$ a night fee as deposit and 26$ resort fee .. for what ? What makes this a resort ? This room doesn’t even have a fridge or microwave- it’s a money grab joke . If you like to gamble and love second hand smoke it’s convenient. I’ve honestly not had a worse trip . This place was a huge waste of money .

Stayed at Harveys Lake Tahoe for four days the week of August 21st.
Wife and I got a King room on the Tahoe side on the 16th. Floor.
Room had sitting area by the window, which overlooked the Lake. Room was in good shape, and the bed and linens were first class.
Towels were about a 7/10 on the softness side, but found nicer, newer ones at the pool.
Bathroom was large, with makeup mirror and stool for my wife, so that was a nice touch.
Pool was open until 10pm each night, and the fitness centre had every machine you would want to use.
Sports Bar has excellent burgers that we enjoyed our first night at the hotel.
Casino had a craps table which was good for me, and servers were attentive bringing by drinks on a regular basis.
All in all, expect a 3 star hotel experience and you will not be disappointed. This hotel is good value for what we paid.

Clearly the place is being renovated, I selected a renovated room. It was nice but an awkward closet and bathroom floor plan. The closet is right when you go in, a long wall, a door with a nice vanity, sink, shower, coffee station and another room with the toilet. A large toilet room. Pictures online are accurate. Very nice sunrise, nice view of the lake and mountains. I overhead other guests saying the opposite side rooms have a musty smell. I didn't smell anything where I was I at. I did notice the new toilet wobbled a bit, over the shower head on the left was what could be a leak. Visible only when the water was on. Oh an one the light bulbs was out. I didn't call to get it replace, I just switched it to the desk light. The Starbucks does not do the stars rewards. But I'd stay here again, maybe the fridge could be replaced, was not the best.

Check into the hotel on Friday staying thru the weekend, as soon as I walked into the room there's used face mask on the night stand, so I took one star out of review for that.
Then when I'm taking shower only half of the water is coming out of the shower head and another half of the water is coming out of the faucet, it took me a while to wash all the soap out, so there goes another star.
I went to the front desk second morning ask to switch to another room, and the room that I switch to TV remote didn't work at all, plus there's once I need to go down to the lobby the elevator won't go down after the door closed, so I have to jump into another elevator in order to get down to the lobby, there goes the 3rd star, I'm sorry but the experience that staying at this hotel casino is poor, I can only offer 2 star.
By the way the front desk personnel are very nice .

Ah, the charming quirks of our stay in South Lake Tahoe! Nestled right on the strip, our location was top-notch, mere footsteps away from the bustling array of restaurants and must-do activities. Our room, well, it had its own unique personality – featuring a heater fan that fancied itself a rock band and a sink that took its sweet time. The casino was a casual stroll from our door, perfect for a flutter or two. And for the kiddos? A fantastic game center to keep them entertained while the adults played their own games of chance. Location-wise, we hit the jackpot! No frills hotel stay.

I’m happy they added the ability to make a couple cups of coffee in the room. This was always a hassle when waking after a late night. The rooms have fridges, but no microwave, and are spacious and comfortable. Great location but we decided not to play tables as mid week afternoon minimum was now $25 for craps. Also, be aware that self-service parking is $17 per night.

Stayed here on their promotional deal of $99.00. Not a bad deal for a mid-week deal. Of course they add on the hidden taxes which bump up the total but overall not a bad deal.
The room itself was small and just large enough to fit 2 queens. Room is clean with no frills such as complimentary coffee or tea. The bathroom was clean and the floor tiles appear new. The hallways are somewhat narrow and the carpets could use a refresh but clean.
The restaurants are expensive and for what you pay doesn't match what your getting (my humble opinion).
Of course the gambling was the reason we came...... of course we left broke and licking our wounds.
I'm not a smoker so the smoke in the gambling floor was bad. Overall we had a pleasant stay.

The hotel room was clean and staff were helpful enough. Maybe it was just the off-season or staff shortages, but not being able to order room service or have a great way to redeem rewards points without walking next door was pretty rough. I went as part of a charter group with Caesar's rewards. I was working some of the time, so it wasn't possible to walk next door for breakfast. I did enjoy the American River Cafe. Otherwise, this was a pretty bare-bones experience and while the price was right, it wasn't worth all of the travel.

When looking online - I don't know who gives the star ratings for hotels, but it was listed as a 4 star hotel. Do not fall for this. The price (initially) looked good, then they added a $30 per day 'resort fee'. Yes they tell you that it covers the internet, workout room, etc... but why do cheaper hotels give you that for free.
When we came in to register, they told us we were staying in the Mountain View Tower (the older part of the building) and would we like to pay more for the newer side - I declined. Then I was asked (for our 3 night stay) if we wanted maid service daily - for an extra cost. I declined. Then I found out that even if we self park we get charged daily for that!
Upon entering our room, it was evident that is was in the older building and that any remodel might have been done in the 80's if not earlier. We had no refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker or kleenex. The flat screen TV was not that big. The air conditioning - which I turned down to 60 - never got that cold. It was barely cold enough at night in the room to have a comfortable night sleep.
To say the least, I was not pleased and will look elsewhere to stay on our next trip to Tahoe.

Pros:
-Fun arcade and Starbucks in the lobby.
-Lots of restaurants and shopping in the mile around the hotel.
-Newly renovated bathrooms.
-Decent view from upper floor rooms.
Cons:
-Dated rooms and hotel, even with the room renovations. (Wallpaper peeling in room, Room door wouldn't shut without slamming it, etc.)
-No nearby lake access. Definitely not within walking or scooter distance.
-Asked multiple staff for recommendation and did not get one. I ask "Do you know of any nearby hikes" Front Desk Employee "There aren't any in the area" No hikes in Lake Tahoe? Yikes!
Stayed 7 days at hotel and found it to be nothing special. Nothing necessarily bad but not worth the cost. Would not recommend.

Currently staying here. Room is filthy. Carpet has random bits all over it. Dust everywhere. Had to clean the toilet......some one else's poop on the toilet seat. And the room is rank smells like pot was grown in here. Having to pay for parking is a joke. Just spent over 5 hours on the casino floor dropped well over 1000 dollars and never even got a drink. Who do you have to blow to receive a damn drink. will never stay here again. Better rooms at a motel 6 and you won't get boned for parking.

Harvey's is a dated hotel, but overall is very clean and nice. The staff that we interacted with were very courteous. Our room was a classic king #1146 and it was clean and had a mountain view/golf course. Upon arrival we didn't have a remote control but housekeeping brought one immediately for us. The carpet at the entry door is in rough shape. We only had 3 coat hangers which is petty, but we needed more with 2 people for a week. Let me discuss the charges they add for the services that aren't provided. It's $20 per night for parking, $25 per night for a resort fee that I used zero amenities of the fee. You pay that and you get no housekeeping for an entire week. If you need anything you must contact them. Trash just piles up in your room unless you set it in the hallway. There is also a $75 per night depoit which seems high to me based on a 7 night stay. ($525) the casino was nice. The food at Joe's Restaurant was great. The parking deck is very nice. Would I stay again, maybe but definitely explore the other options in town.

Stayed 3 nights. The rooms are very good. But the room wasn't cleaned even once. The pool is heated. Sauna is great too. Had a terrible experience at Joe's BBQ place. Service is bad. Food is below average. Casino is good. Waitresses are friendly.

Beautiful and spacious room! We booked a premium king suite non-smoking and it was worth the extra money. Plenty of space to dry out ski gear, comfy and clean room, and huge bathroom with incredible walk in shower and water pressure. Great view of mountains and lake even on non-lake view side. 5min walk to every restaurant and ski rental place in heavenly village. Never waited more than 20 seconds for an elevator!
Cons:
- no microwave in room
- one towel had a large stain on it (but virtual concierge brought us replacement towels immediately with zero wait)

We had a remodeled room, made a big difference from previous trip. Nice lake view! No housekeeping, so they should put in enough coffee and shampoo to last your entire stay... hard to get a drink, bars closed, very few cocktail waitresses... but, south lake Tahoe always fun

I purchased two rooms from this hotel for multiple nights and one of the rooms had blood stains on the sheets.
I went to the front desk to report this, and the front desk agent couldn’t have cared less. They offered to move me rooms or change the sheets.
I personally was extremely disturbed by this. I didn’t expect any issues with the sheets so I didn’t pull everything off and inspect before I went to sleep by morning time I was getting out bed and found huge blood splotches on the sheets that was absolutely not from me.
They don’t care, I would have expected a discount or something considering how they put me in a room with dirty sheets someone else slept in. I’m super upset and they didn’t care they just said oh wow I’m sorry I’ll get them changed.
That’s not good enough I spent a lot money and I expect them to make it right. Changing the sheets and a fake I’m sorry from front desk isn’t a solution. If you guys make a mistake like leaving blood stained sheets in a room I expect a refund of something.
BEWARE they don’t clean rooms well and they don’t make it right.

There is cell phone transmitters mounted on top of the hotel so any long term visitors or workers will likely develop cancer…. Then the games hardly anything is won there it’s awful about payouts I’ve personally never won anything significant there. Would not recommend. It’s a Caesar’s hotel so expect little to no comps unless you plan on dropping 5k or more. If your not rich your not welcome here.

We stayed here four nights. The view from our upgraded room was very nice. The beds were comfortable. However when we called housekeeping to find out why no one had come to service our room we were told " we are not offering that service at this time". Not COVID so what the heck ? Couldn't believe it. We had to call daily to ask for the items that we needed. Corporate greed ? The whole casino smells like old man cologne and feels like the a/c is set on 80. We spent our time across the street at the Harrah's casino which was nicer.

NEVER AGAIN! Hotel staff entered room before check out while we were getting ready for the day.
I have been coming to Tahoe for years and I can truly say this is the worst experience I have ever had. Took a last minute trip with my boyfriend and paid for an upgrade room with a view. It was his birthday the weekend before and we were still celebrating.
Starting off valet staff are super friendly! But that’s about the extent of our good experience.
Upon checking in you can not find a staff member. We used a kiosk and headed to our room. Hallways were dirty with things on the walls and carpet was stained. All the doors have chipped paint and it looks really run down. For a recently updated room I figured maybe our room would be better, not the case.
What went really wrong was we had a member of housekeepings management enter our room, after only knocking, and waiting five seconds. It was 9 AM and check out is at 11. I wasn’t able to make it to the door. I was also in bed not dressed properly to have someone I don’t know in my room. I’ve stayed in multiple hotels in the Tahoe area. I have never had this happen. Not even at the motel 6. When I had somebody from the front desk finally call me, they said it’s just how we do things when I ask does it show that I am checked out they said no. But since people don’t always check out, she said they check on the rooms, we were checking out on a Sunday. There is no way that so many people are checking in on Monday that you can wait until 11 AM . They told me they would refund the resort fees for the inconvenience. After all we’ve experienced here, we will never stay again still waiting to hear from a member of the upper management to go over a resolution to this issue.

The view rooms are great. We were on the 18th floor and had a view of the lake, mountains, and strip. Very comfortable beds and a large room.
The casino itself is pretty deserted during the week. The only breakfast available was pastries at starbucks.

This place has turned into a dog hotel. Literally! I stayed in the Mountain Tower of the hotel for about 3 days. The hotel placed all the guests with loud barky dogs next to my room. Lucky me! One will check out and they immediately placed another dog owner next to me. No peace! My room looked liked a dog chewed up the carpet and baseboards. This hotel has gone downhill. The pool was closed. The hot tub has been “broken” for about 6 years. Yet, guests still have to pay a resort fee. I do like the gym and sauna room. Very clean. The free WiFi did not work. I had to go in person to the front desk and call two times to get gaslighted that maybe it my was fault. After the 4th attempt of them pretending to fix the wifi issue they directed me to “technical department” that was actually the housekeeper. The housekeeper was the only one to get them to fix the WiFi. They simply just had to reset it. 🥴 Oh! And the coffee did not work. The housekeeper NEVER came to clean the room in the 3 days here! They only got away with that during the Pandemic. No extra towels. No coffee. No refrigerator. No batteries for the remote control. No “do not disturb “ door handles. The battery phone chargers did not work. I usually leave a tip in the room for the housekeepers, but they made too many mistakes.

Let me first say. My wife and I have traveled a lot and have stayed in some great hotels and motels. But we have also stayed in some janky and questionable accomodations. Looking back, it made for some great memories. This is our third staying here at Harvey's Hotel and resort( most of those time were to eat at Gordon's Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen, which is AMAZING. The sticky toffee pudding dessert is sinfully good). The first time we stayed here, we booked through the hotel directly. The room was great. Newly remodeled, looked amazing and it felt like a $250 dollar a night accomodation. I would pay that price with no complaints if that were our experience every time we've stayed here. The second time we booked through Expedia for $170 a night and we were placed in the older not remodeled mountain tower. Why this is a so much of a surprise is the hotel is promoted with the newly remodeled rooms with pictures to captive you. I mean this side is a long ways away from modern touches. Old carpet that looks and smells like the 80's, dated and worn furnishings, a hard squeaky mattress, the one you get in the guest bedroom when you don't want people to get to comfortable in your house. I was confused and disappointed. So we went back downstairs immediately, we didn't even put our bags down. We go back to the check in counter and speak with a lady about the room and why we were not place in the nice tower like on the picture and where stayed before. She was rude and said, that's what you paid for. I asked for someone else so a guy comes who I assumed was a manager but before he spoke to us, the rude lady pulled him aside first a tells him something then he came and said, sorry but this is what you booked and that we're booked and due to COVID is why the rooms look like they do. I was fuming. My wife said it was ok and let's just enjoy ourselves. I took pictures and everything put I didn't post them or write a review. Now this third time, I called and booked directly through the hotels reservation line thinking we would get a better stay for $256 this time. Our son was performing at Peek in side of Harrah's. NOPE. We got the old undone mountain tower again. I asked for an up grade and was willing to pay more but it was no again. We met this couple on the way up the elevator here to eat a Hell's kitchen, that said what we felt. For $250 a night the accomodations should be better. COME ON HARVEY'S. YOU GAVE TO DO BETTER FOR WHAT PEOPLE ARE PAY. Stop the false advertising and give people the real option to choose. We work hard for our money and are willing to pay for a great experience so, DON'T PEE ON OUR LEGS AND TELL US IT'S RAIN. Enough is enough for us.

Get a renovated room it’s worth it. The Mountain View is crazy. I got the lake, mountains, and city all around. The room inside is roomy. The bathroom has 2 vanity and a large shower. The toilet is separated by a door so you can get your private time. The location is 3 minute walk from the heavenly shopping center. The arcade and casino are great. Not too overwhelming with smoke smell as I am someone with major asthma. The drinks are good. Only problem is I sat there for almost 2 hours before I could get a servers attention for a drink. I love how the arcade goes to the other hotel. The valet guys are super nice. They also drive nicely with your car. Cinnabon was good inside. The gift shop was expensive but had some cute things. There was another shirt store next to it but I waited 20 minutes at the register to buy some shirts and no one ever showed up to the register (only negative part about the service). They now how self check in and out which is cool but also I wish to interact more with workers. The elevators are clean and fast. When you walk into the hotel it has a huge waterfall center piece which is gorgeous. I didn’t go to any restraints here so I can’t give an accurate review on those. BOOK THIS HOTEL!

3/30/24 Overall visit pleasant. My concern is the very bad air quality. The entire casino is smokey and smells. The casinos bad filtration system. It's not good for children and those with respiratory issues. Also, the casino charges parking $17 a day for the hotel quest, adding insult your already dropping money at the tables.

Our room was very spacious and clean. Service seems incredibly understaffed though. We tried to request extra towels and blankets, but the wait for either was almost 2 hours. The location is great, it's about a block away from the Heavenly gondola and within walking distance of a lot of restaurants. There's an outdoor heated pool, a gym, sauna, and steam room. The casino itself isn't amazing because it's on the smaller size, the elevators for the car garage are a bit dingy and one of the elevators was a little sketchy because the doors didn't close all the way. Overall, still a good stay for the price and location.

they need to remove “Bring your dog and stay in one of the best pet-friendly hotels in Lake Tahoe,” from their website.
only if you want to be placed on a floor that smells old and overly perfumed to mask the moldy smell. we were denied the suite we booked months in advance, even after calling the resort to make sure the room we booked is dog friendly. well guess what, nope! we were put in a “significantly downgrade” (quote from the desk supervisor) of a room and it was a horror scene. they put little effort in cleaning the rooms, the bathroom had hair all over the floor, the shower tiles were heavily coated in mold, the floor had signs of stains that barely got cleaned. and to boot the walls are hardly insulated, you can hear everything nextdoor.
after being downgraded we were given the “base rate” of 139.00 a night, yet their website offers deals of 53$ a night, you would think they would offer a better rate after being lied to about their suites.
oh, also, if you bring a dog make sure you bring a sitter too, you can’t leave your dog unattended in the room - which i am certain everyone does. their main reason why? noise complaints, well guess what - you’re on a floor with other dogs, so your neighbor who has a dog is going to complain about a dog making noise?
this place is a rip off and a joke, luckily we were able to cancel our booking for a decent cancellation rate. and luckily i was able to book a room up the street that allows dogs in their suites which thus far are a pet-friendly hotel (hotel begins with a B”
i do however want to commend CJ for being the front desk agent that kept his composure and professionalism while i blew a gasket when denied the suite i booked.
Sand Harbor is a stunning and popular site at Lake Tahoe, offering swimming, boating, and open-air entertainment with breathtaking mountain views. The beach features pristine turquoise waters and a spacious sandy area for relaxation. Visitors can explore prehistoric rock formations and enjoy biking on the trails or hiking in the surrounding nature. Additionally, there are clean public bathrooms and a designated BBQ area for day use.
Gorgeous views, well maintained trail, so many photo ops. Entry is about $15 for non Nevada cars. And $10 for Nevada state cars. Super clean and super picturesque.
Dogs are allowed off-season (mid October to mid April)
We were in March and definitely layer up because it can be windy and cold.
Restrooms are available but be mindful that they were closed due to winter.

There are Prehistoric looking Rock formations that you can climb on and take some really cool pics. There is ample room for Bicycling and several Nature trails for some hiking. There is a pretty cool BBQ area for some day use however this area must be reserved in advance. I highly recommend that any interested individuals go there, you will be pleasantly surprised. 😉👍👍

Amazing beach, lot of parking. It has 3-4 access points and the views of the beach are different from each access point. Also, don't forget the Ramada Point Rocks. Parking is $15 for CA registered vehicles and $10 for NV registered vehicles. There is a bar and grill (closes in evening) and restrooms nearby. The water here is the best turquoise color that can be seen in Lake Tahoe without hiking anywhere. No need to go anywhere else.

This state park is mind-blowingly beautiful. Sand Harbor is the main visitor area, with access to several beaches and rocks to swim from. There are also plenty of other spots further along the shore where you can park on the side of the road and hike down to the water, BUT you can't even get to these until the Sand Harbor traffic dies down. In peak season San Harbor gets mobbed with visitors, to the point that it shuts down the roadway in the morning with a line of cars waiting to enter Sand Harbor, thereby blocking thru traffic that is trying to get past Sand Harbor (no passing lane) until the park stops accepting more vehicles. I wouldn't say this should count against the park, but rather the fault of over population. Next time we visit we would stay in Incline Village and rent bicycles, it's a 5 mile ride along an incredibly beautiful public shore pathway, very well executed including paved stretches and brides over rockier portions.

Lake Tahoe has countless of beautiful beaches but Sand Harbor to me has to be the number 1 spot.
Beautiful, blue, calm water and lots of parking. Public Bathrooms are clean and spread out through out the harbor. We only bike north til the trail ends at the highway and boulder scrambling along the beach this trip but will be back this summer for kayaking and hiking.
Plan to spend the entire day here at least. It's totally worth it and you probably won't want to find other beaches to hop to

It’s been about 20 years since I’ve been to this beach, it’s always packed and for good reason! Large sandy beaches with a few separate little coves. The rocks are fun to climb and jump off of. Plus, there’s a place to buy food and snacks now! We love that new addition and the cashier was so helpful and sweet. Must visit but get there early or plan on taking a shuttle.

Nevada State Parks has really gone downhill. You now need to pay twice as much if you're from out of state. They have one vehicle entrance that charges $10 dollars, than another entrance that charges $2, for what looks like foot or bicycle entrance, but since you need to display your tag in your vehicle, how will they know you already paid for parking and were just hiking. In addition they threaten a $195 fee if you don't pay. I work for California State Parks and Nevada State Parks are definitely scamming people.
So, why is this place still getting 5 stars? Because, the tyranny of Nevada State Parks shouldn't take away from this place's natural beauty. I usually go to the California side, as the parking on the Nevada side is practically impossible to find during peak season, unless you get there at like 6 or 7 in the morning. I see why, as it is much more beautiful than the beaches on the California side. Personally, I wouldn't attempt to come here during peak season, but during low season, it's a completely different world. This is Lake Tahoe at its most raw!

There is a nice boardwalk to wander with beautiful views of the lake and inlets. The large boulders in the water give it a unique charm.

This place! Took us a few trials and errors but we made it on the last day! Must get here by 8 am! Bring a sweater and set up your spot on the cove side. We walked around the boardwalk and warmed up. Being surrounded by the huge boulders and being able to jump off was so cool. The sand is so pretty and soft, it has a pink color. The views from the board walk looking down you could see just how aqua blue the water is. They have a restaurant with adult drinks, and lots of good food.

Great park for views, easy casual walking paths, the beach, and kayaking/paddle boarding. Entry fee cash only. Food and drinks available at store. Note for summer- by mid day it is very busy, parking fills up and they will close the parking lot and no walking into park allowed. Best to go in the morning or later afternoon/evening and hope the parking lot is open.

Great place to spend the day! I visited the week after Labor Day and it was not too busy- plenty of parking at 9am when I arrived (although I’ve read parking is crazy during summer months). Parking is $15 for non Nevada residents and $10 for Nevada residents. There is a great large beach with a volley ball net, kayak/paddle board rentals, and even a bar and restaurant within the park. The water is beautifully clear.

1st time experience and it did not disappoint. The beach was clean and beautiful. You must arrive early in order to get in. I would recommend an hour before it opens. The water was crisp and refreshing. The sand was soft on my feet. Beautiful views and will be returning.

A beautiful 😍 park! A must see if you are in the area! If you go by car you are better off going to the Sand Harbour State Park, entrance was $15.00 USD and walk the trail which are made of asphalt so be careful when hot. There is a place where you can rent e-bikes and go through the trail. We walk but we didn’t the whole trail. The place for food and drinks closed by the end of October and reopen in May of the following year!

Beautiful!! So glad we stopped by. The whole area was so stunning. The rocks and beach were totally worth seeing here. It was a little chilly with the slight breeze, but that's to be expected in January!

Great beach and facilities. Lots of parking and worth paying to enter, but get here early in the warm months. We came in February and it was empty but cold! The wind coming from the lake created amazing waves.

Absolutely stunning and worth the breathtaking view. If you're visiting Lake Tahoe and or driving around the lake please swing by this spot. It's only 10 for Nevada folks to enter. We used the kiosk machine to pay

Beautiful state park- One of the most beautiful places you’ll ever see. Park is very clean and visitor center with restaurant are on the premises. Large parking lot, but beware as it can fill up by 9am. Beach rentals are towards the end of the beach. You could spend all day here and be just fine. There are a series of walking paths around the lake within the park. The pictures don’t do it justice: you’ve gotta go!
Casino Fandango is a tropical-themed hotel and casino complex that offers table games, live entertainment, and around-the-clock dining. It also provides exceptional event facilities with a spacious hallway outside the main rooms, which can be used for gathering or setting up a buffet. The service at Casino Fandango is outstanding with professional staff members like Josh, the Banquet Captain who is always ready to assist attendees in any way possible.
We love going in here in the morning we get the best service from our waiter. Bert he is funny fast and always willing to give you a fun good hard time you just enjoy the meal much more when your waiter is there that cool anyhow, we love playing the games there. My sister-in-law works there my brother Also he used to work there. They all love the company very much. We love playing the machines. We’ve won a little every now and again can’t say that we’ve ever won a lot.

Restaurant was very disappointing. The entire floor looked like it hadn't been swept or vacuumed for days. Could understood if it was busy but there were only 2 other tables occupied. Ordered 2 coffees & had to have the waiter bring 2 fresh ones after we added the creamer that was obviously spoiled. The food was only about average. Considering the prices, I expected a lot better

The William Hill sports book was closed on Sat. Night? Probably no fault of Casino Fandango.
Didn't win this trip. Staffing seemed a little slimmer than my previous visit 2 years ago. Food was good enough. Just, nothing screamed 5 Star! anymore.
One nice thing, I felt safe in this casino.

Just paid $32 for two of the most pathetic breakfast burritos I’ve ever seen. This must be a joke because I’ve never received such a sorry excuse for a burrito. Someone gave me the recommendation this morning to go here because they make “large burritos” I was told. This is absolutely pathetic and I won’t be coming back.

Casino Fandango is a great place to hold an event! The facilities are very nice with a large hallway outside the main rooms that is ideal for gathering or setting up a buffet. The service was outstanding. In particular, Josh, the Banquet Captain, did a great job. Whatever was needed; a juice for an attendee, fixing the speaker volume or microphone, or jumping in as an extra bartender, Josh was there making it happen with a smile! Even with about 100 participants, the food was excellent with the steaks pink and tender! Our DAR conference went very smoothly!

Our favorite place for gaming, food and drink!
The staff are friendly and helpful and really seem to care for the customers. The restaurants offer high quality fare at decent prices and drinks are on the house while you are gaming. Please don't forget to tip your servers well!!!
We win sometimes and we lose sometimes but we always have an enjoyable time! The only thing keeping us from giving a 5 star rating is that smoking is allowed and that is a big turn off for many.

Mt. Rose - Ski Tahoe is a ski resort in the Lake Tahoe area that boasts of having the highest base elevation for skiing. The resort offers 1,300 acres of carefully maintained ski runs suitable for skiers of all levels. There are seven chairlifts and three snowboard parks available to cater to visitors' diverse needs. For those seeking luxury accommodation, North Star provides slopeside five-star lodging.
Booked a first timer snowboard lesson online the day before a Friday. $155 ($10 helmet is extra) for gear and - 2 hour lesson. Our instructor was Christine - 75, looking happy and young!
You go down the stairs to check in and then head in to get your shoes then your board and you get a poker chip (number on it corresponds with the basket) if you need a bin to store your belongings.
Our class started at 10 and there was 5 in our group. We did some stretching first then went through some basic skills. It was about 1115 and we finally went up the magic carpet to go down the big bunny hill!
We took a lunch break. They have an assortment of electrolyte drinks, your sodas and bottled water. They also have prepackaged salads (I got the cobb for $12). They have meat and vegetarian chili, burgers, fries, chicken tenders, oranges and bananas from what I can remember.
With the package, you can ski until the park closes at 4p.
Our day was super gorgeous, and a fun one!

Mt. Rose is a great mountain! The lodge and rental area is very small, so it is easy to navigate and the mountain is suitable for all levels. It is very home-y and run by a great team of people that are helpful and nice. There are a wide variety of greens and blues on two of the ski lifts and a decent bit of blacks on the third ski lift. The runs are on the shorter side, I skied down a blue to the bottom in 4 minutes - however they are very fun blues. The lodge has a variety of vegan/ vegetarian options like vegan chili and wraps. They have great ski deals on certain days of the week - Thursday’s are half off for ladies during certain weeks in the season. In my opinion it would make for a great half ski day rather than a full if you are mid-level experienced.

Came here on March 15 and 16 2024 and skied all day both days. Prices are way better than the other mountains in the area and it wasn't crowded at all. I got there at 9am and was skiing by 9:30. Never waited more than a few minutes to get on a lift. They do $69 day passes for active duty (access for ALL lifts). Staff was super friendly and helpful. This was my first time skiing in almost 15 years, so I took a Next Step lesson and was able to pick it right back up. This place is great for people of all experience levels. Even the beginner slopes had plenty of variety. As someone who had never skied on the west coast before, I'm glad I found this mountain. Cannot beat the amazing views and the ease of accessing all the slopes.

Great ski experience! My family (kids and adults) learned ski here. Nice long runs for beginners to learn quickly. Kids lessons are very good. Coaches try to challenge kids so they improve fast. Coach Diane took our kids to blue runs for their first time and that really helped them.

There’s enough snow here to last all the way in the next December. However, they’re closing for the season on April 30. Seems like a waste, but people will have the other interests as the weather warms up. This is a popular ski resort with locals and tourists alike. With lots of runs when they’re able to keep them open.
The food in the lodge is pretty good and reasonable for a ski resort. If you plan on visiting Mount Rose, you better hurry.

I’ve been in many ski resorts in Tahoe but mt rose is a whole different animal, it provides all ski levels, parking isn’t not an issue unlike most of the other resorts, staff is very nice and friendly. For you little ones they have magic carpet where you can train young kids….its definitely worth it coming here….will probably bring my family next winter.

We had both of our kids (7 and 9) take their first lesson on skiing at Mt Rose at the end of 2021 (right after the HUGE snowstorm), and the instructors and employees there were fantastic! My boys loved learning to ski, and my youngest took his instructor’s advice to heart, and said, “I need to take another lesson.” My oldest said that he “got the basics down and didn’t need another lesson,” so we scheduled a second day.
While my youngest took his lesson, my oldest and I tried out the beginner terrain off the Wizard chair lift. My youngest was super jazzed after his lesson and joined us for a few runs. The beginner runs at Mt Rose are fantastic - we didn’t even get to try the lift that is halfway up the hill for more beginner trails. All of the employees on the magic carpet and beginner lift were so nice and helpful - they weren’t annoyed at all if you messed up getting on or off the lift.
My only issue was that they closed the lifts at 4pm (which I totally get since it gives you time to return your rentals before it gets dark). It’s a great deal if you take lessons in the morning because then, you have about 4 hours to do some runs. But if you do the 12:30 classes, you end at 3, so you only get an hour to do a couple of runs before closing time.
I can’t say enough about Mt Rose - such a great place. I hadn’t snowboarded in about 14 years, so all of the beginner terrain was great to help me get going again, and it was super fun for the kids! I highly recommend this place if your are just starting out!

This was a wonderful place for first-time skiers. We did the 2 day lesson "flight" pass. Both days, we were paired with amazing instructors who were very patient and helpful in their methods of instruction. I can not say enough good things about Ermano and Bruce. Chris also instructed my husband and younger son, who were more advanced and/or confident than I was after the 1st day. They really had a great time with him, too. The staff in the pro shop were also very helpful and patient with us in getting us all the necessary gear. I also think Cathleen was awesome at the Magic Carpet in helping ensure I always got on safely and giving pointers to make it easier for the next time. I look forward to coming back again!

Great local's area. Only a half hour drive if you live in South Reno like me. Hardly any lines (virtually none on weekdays). Highest base elevation in the area. But this is not a "resort destination" area as the dining options are basic and limited and there's not any sort of village or bar/dining at the top of the mountain. It's really a locals hill, or a place to go for visitors that want to avoid the crowds/lines at the other more popular areas in the Tahoe Region. My main gripe is their Season Pass, unlike the EPIC Pass, doesn't work at any other ski areas other than their own. If I were living in NW Reno I'd probably get the EPIC Pass and ski Northstar and then use it at other areas in Colorado, California and Utah.
This was a great season! Although as a Season Pass Holder at Mt. Rose, it's really disappointing for an area that their marketing slogan is how high their base elevation is compared to other resorts in the area, that even in a record snowfall year, the season has not been extended anywhere near as long as other lower elevation areas in the Sierra Nevada region have (some to July 4, they are ending on April 30! Are you kidding me?) I realize of course this is probably purely an economic decison to not extend the season to at least Memorial Day Weekend. But as a Business Owner myself, I'm honestly a bit surprised there's not some creative solution to create a win-win situation operating beyond April at least at some limited capacity.
Rumor has it since Mt. Rose is on BLM Land, their permit doesn't allow them to operate past April. If this is indeed the case, it's a little surprising in such as huge record snowfall year, their marketing department didn't at least send out an email to all the Season Pass Holders explaining this, or, negotiated a one-month extension with BLM considering the unique circumstances.

If you love skiing, but want a more "where the locals ski" experience, Mount Rose is the place to go. Mount Rose is much smaller and commercial than resorts like Heavenly or Northstar, but that doesn't mean that it feels small or cramped. This resort has a great variety of runs for beginners and seasoned skiers alike, and I love how friendly everyone seems to be here. The lines go by much faster, the runs are fairly long, and if you can handle going down intermediate runs, you can park in the back lot and literally park within stone's throw of a ski lift. While I still enjoy the larger resorts, this one will still be my go-to when I feel like relaxing at a resort that feels comfortable and homey.

Mount Rose is a mountain in the northern Sierra Nevada Range, located a few miles northeast of Lake Tahoe. It's the highest mountain in the Carson Range, which is on the east side of Lake Tahoe. Great for skiing. It's also the highest Nevada mountain in the Sierra Nevada Range.
Mount Rose is 10,779 feet above sea level. So you will be avle to go down various different types of hills. It's the second highest peak in the Lake Tahoe Basin, after Freel Peak.
Mount Rose is located 25 miles southwest of downtown Reno. It's also 11 miles northeast of Incline Village on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Very easy ti get to from our place
The Mount Rose summit trail has one of the most diverse wildflower communities in the Tahoe Basin. The lower elevations are covered in sagebrush and grass, with white bark and lodge pole pine.
The Mount Rose hike is roughly 11 miles round trip, with a total elevation gain of 2,500 feet. Most people complete the hike in 6 hours.
Overall, its a great place for skiing. There are a lot of hills to go down, and it is very large.

First time trying skiing, and my husband on the snowboard, firstable the drive from South Lake is not too bad. It's very pretty. There is plenty of free parking, which is part of why we choose this place. Everyone is very helpful in getting your rentals, where to leave your stuff and just information in general. If you are a beginner, they have a great space for practice, I guess it is the kids' area, but it's very helpful. We went for the half day afternoon. It was enough time to try and wet on the lift a few times . I'll highly recommend getting a lesson!! it will make your life so much easier , we are very athletic and we really wished had signed up for the class. Anyway we had a lot of fun . Don't ask me about my tomorrow soreness 😂

20 mins away from Reno and the one of most community minded ski resorts in the area, provides a little bit of terrain for all different level skiers. You a beginner? They got you. Dare devil? Got some steep runs for you (weather permitting). Offers rentals of equipment & sales of personal ski/snowboard clothes (NO. They don't rent pants, coats, gloves, socks or goggles). Classes for kids are the best! Most of the parking lot is close to the hill so you won't have to take a bus, shuttle or anything, but it can be full during holidays.
You need to have a lift ticket and equipment to go on the lifts, there is no lift for sight seeing from the top.

Wanted to give Igor a special shoutout! He was amazing at showing us first timers how to ski. It was a busy day so they had stations with instructions but we got luck enough to catch Igor. When waiting for the 3rd station, he came up to us and had us join his group. He is very patient and encouraging. He got to know each one of us and customized one of the runs to one of our group members likes. HIGHLY recommend requesting him if given the chance !

The Nevada State Railroad Museum is a large collection of historical trains and equipment dedicated to the preservation of Nevada's railroad history. The museum boasts various types of historic train cars and smaller rail equipment on display, along with an abundance of interesting historical information. Visitors can walk inside some train cars in the second building while listening to engaging stories and facts from the knowledgeable museum curator. A stop at the gift shop before leaving is recommended for train enthusiasts who want to take a piece of history home with them.
This is a very large museum with many real, historic trains in it. Besides the different types of trains, there are also smaller rail cars and equipment displayed. The back wall is full of historical information that was extremely interesting! The second building held more train cars that you could walk inside. The museum curator back there was full of train stories and facts which really brought the history alive! A visit to the excellent gift is in order before leaving. This is a great little museum. It is put together by locals who love trains - full size and models. Within the building, they had at least 3 locomotives and some cars. They have a gift shop that was fun - especially for grandmothers around Christmas time. They were also putting together a model train board in preparation for an event. Well worth the modest sum. If you like trains and you're in the area, this should get pinned on your e-map. There is a working engine for rides, some interesting train cars outside, nice depot, great static displays in the museum building and a warehouse with an engine and more train cars. If you go past the warehouse there are several disintegrating old train cars in a fenced in area. I've been here a few times and enjoy it every time.

The Nevada State Museum, housed in the historic Carson City Mint building, showcases permanent exhibitions on the state's geology, history, and culture. Additionally, it often features rotating displays highlighting local and regional history. Visitors can see fascinating artifacts such as a stuffed Columbian mammoth and Nevada's state fossil - an ichthyosaur. The museum offers a unique perspective on one of America's most distinctive states with its liberal values and rich heritage.
The Nevada State Museum is fascinating! I have been to a lot of museums, including those in Washington DC, and this one is my favorite! It is huge, one visit is not enough. They have a Native American section, Geology, Natural History, Nevada History, a Ghost Town, and my favorite, the very realistic Mining Tunnels! The historic Nevada Mint is part of the museum and they mint coins on Saturdays. Altogether, a wonderful experience!!

What an excellent State Museum! From the ancient history of Nevada to modern day, everything is in one place. It is a wonder that such a sparsely Populated state would have such an amazing museum. Especially enjoyed the taxidermy and Nevada history wings. I didn’t realize this was a US mint so there is a lot of history here. Not just the gaming industry but all the mining and contributions that Nevada, the state has made. I highly recommend taking time out for this Museum it’s fun to know as much about the state as it’s residents.

I have visited many museums around world, this is a cute local museum with some unique exhibits about Carson City Mint and the silver mining. I was visiting a former colleague who has been living in Carson City for over 24 years after she got retired. She recommended the museum and we had a good time checking out the exhibits. As a guy, I also liked the gun exhibits and early gambling slot machines, you don’t see those exhibits in other major museums. The natural history section is very rudimentary. In all, it was well worth the two hours we spent there! Cheers!

This was amazing! Perfect for any age. It gives plenty of information about history through the museum with some fun things even the children can look at and probably ask questions. There is a whole part with a ghost town and a hidden staircase to a mine section. The worker there was great, I didn't talk much to him, but my father chatted with him for a while and helped with some questions. It's a great place for visitors to learn about Nevada!!

It was absolutely wonderful to spend a few hours and to brush up on Nevada History.
Great exhibits, audio tutorials, and tours.

I love a good museum! This place was surprisingly good. The parking was free as I found a place in the small parking lot right behind the museum. The cost to enter was $10.00. The clerk was helpful, provided a map, and how to navigate the building. The only downside is I went on a Saturday to see the mint working, but it was offline on the day I went.
The amount of information and exhibits was impressive. You can learn about the people, walk through a recreation of a mine, see a ghost town, learn about the mint, see a bunch of local wildlife, and much more. I recommend planning at least two hours to get through everything the museum has to offer.
The only reason I gave the museum four stars is the mint being offline. I checked the website and GoogleMaps before making the drive and nothing said the mint was down. Other than that it’s a definitely must see if you’re in Carson City!

We hadn’t been to the Nevada State Museum for a while and decided we needed to revisit this place. So we set out on a rainy day with nothing else to do. We were glad we did as the exhibits there are so well displayed. There was a section on the history of gambling in the Nevada that we hadn’t remembered and that was particularly well done. Also much had been added to enhance the Native American section. We ended up getting a few items from the gift shop also. All in all, it was a very enjoyable visit.

Visited the State Museum with my family and we had a great time. It's not a huge Museum but it's sure filled with a lot to see. One of our favorite parts was the mint area. The video you can watch has some really interesting information on Carson City and the history of the Mint through the years. They do have it open to see actual minting of coins but just on Saturdays I believe. There are parts that they are expanding and we can't wait to go see the new parts of the museum when it's all done.

Fantastic museum! Lots to see about Navada history and the Carson City Mint. Very nice gift shop as well. Lovely staff.
Cabela's is a famous sporting goods store that carries a wide variety of hunting, fishing and camping supplies as well as boats and ATVs. The store also features an aquarium, archery range, museum of stuffed animals and freshwater aquarium full of sport fish.
I love this place especially what they do for kids during Christmas. They usually have everything I'm looking for. From fishing gear to bows and clothing and guns. The customer service has always been great.
This is our go to store!

This is a huge Cabela's! Anything you could want in every department; fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, etc. Their service was particularly good. They asked when I was checking out of I found everything. I couldn't find a little item, reusable straws. Two people instantly went looking and came back with them. Kudos for customer service!

The store is so big you almost need a roadmap to get around. Very well laid out with each department having their specialties. Everything your heart desire in Camping equipment, outdoor apparel, fishing equipment, sunglasses and goes on and on. The staff is certainly knowledgeable and very friendly. They were actually willing to help. Sometime ago, Bass Pro shop for Cabelos merge, making one big sporting good store. If you’re into canoeing, there’s every color under the rainbow.
If you’re ever in the Reno area, stop by its worth it

I love the outdoors, so this place for me is like a toys r us for adults. Prices aren't horrible either. Just purchased kayaks from a separate establishment and needed life jackets. This was one of the only places near me that was selling them at all and for a considerable price(this was in January). They also sell a range of different kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, and other outdoorsy items for camping, hiking, ammo ect. Customer service was pretty good as well.

Many items we labled with sale prices but when you go to check out, prices came up higher. I was on a budget so I was paying attention. At the end, the was an 8th item charged for $16.99 while I only had 7 items?? They would have gotten me for an extra $30.00. Sooo dishonest!

Such a great experience. The Taxidermy museum, the gun library, the fish tank, and fishing equipment, kids section, there is someone for everyone. Outdoors people, camping, exploring, hunters, Fisherman, hikers, backpackers, ATV's, most fun is just walking through the store to see everything. It's like a log cabin and the savanna all in one place

My hubby and I enjoy the walking around checking out everything. So much to see! The taxidermy is off the hook and excellently displayed. Anytime we see one of these stores, or others like it, we always stop in and end up buying something to take home. Awesome stores.

Passing through on the way home to Roseville, CA. Beautiful store. Friendly staff. Lots of firearms that are not available to us in CA.
I was a bit dismayed at the dismal supply of ammunition. Oh well, a pain to buy and ship to a FFL anyways... Thank you, Cabela's

The displays in this store are amazing it's like walking into a museum. Large game Taxidermy displays are mesmerizing. First the elephant, rino, lion, zebras, hippo, and more exotic animals, then the bears, polor Bear, moose, deer, much more, beautiful display of fish and fish tank with stergeon. Then there was the shooting gallery. This was all before we started shopping which was also amazing. The gun library was awesome. Clothes gear everything.

The customer service at this store is low standards at best. Had to walk around for 10 mins to find a employee to let me in a fitting room, and at the check out, the young man was not friendly, couldnt even handle a smile, didnt greet me when i walked up, and seemed offended when i called him out. I willshop another corporate store when i need supplies

This is a great place to get all your huntin an fishin stuff. Sure glad we don't live in CA! We can get all the guns and ammo we want here. It's crowded on weekends, so come during the week. Prices are average, so don't expect any giant bargains. It's worth it to make the trip out here if you buy a bunch of stuff ... kinda like going to Costco.

I’ve never experienced such a great amount of customer service. From Mark and the gentleman with the white polo at the credit card kiosks, to the awesome gentlemen in the knives section to the very friendly and patient cashier who suggested an ideal gift for my husband. We didn’t feel out of place, awkward or mistreated. We were the only people of color in the store, but that didn’t stop anyone from engaging in conversation with us or helping us out with whatever we needed. We will definitely need to stop back when we are back out this way. Thank you for providing exceptional customer service!
