How long is the drive from Riverside to Mammoth Lakes?
The direct drive from Riverside to Mammoth Lakes is 300 mi (483 km), and should have a drive time of 5 hrs 54 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Riverside to Mammoth Lakes, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, as well as top places to visit like Big Bear Lake and Big Bear Discovery Center, or the ever-popular Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain.
The top city between Riverside and Mammoth Lakes is Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park. It's 6 hours from Riverside and 8 hours from Mammoth Lakes.
Located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park, this popular park offers hiking, camping and other activities. The Sequoia Dome is a large tent offering the ultimate glamping experience near General Sherman Tree. Other attractions include numerous trails and scenic views of the giant sequoias.
I visited end of April, there was melting snow at the top of the mountain. It was OK to drive, but to walk to Sherman tree, a pair and waterproof boots and rain jacket would be nice to have. The roads are very well maintained, lots of pockets along the way on both sides.

Sequoia National Park is an extraordinary place to visit, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves the great outdoors. The park is located in the southern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, and it is home to some of the most majestic and ancient trees in the world, including the famous General Sherman tree, which is the largest tree by volume in the world.
One of the main attractions in Sequoia National Park is hiking, and there are trails suitable for all levels of fitness and experience. The trails range from easy walks through the Giant Forest to strenuous climbs up to the high country. The scenery is breathtaking, and the wildlife is abundant, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for bears, deer, and other animals as you explore.
Another must-see attraction in the park is Moro Rock, a granite dome that offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The climb up to the top of Moro Rock is steep and requires some physical exertion, but the panoramic views from the top are well worth the effort.
In addition to the natural wonders of Sequoia National Park, there are also several historic sites to explore, including the Giant Forest Museum, which provides an excellent overview of the park's ecology and history. There are also several campgrounds and lodges within the park, making it easy to plan a multi-day visit and fully immerse yourself in the park's beauty.
Overall, Sequoia National Park is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves nature and the great outdoors. The park's stunning scenery, ancient trees, and abundant wildlife make it a truly unforgettable experience.

Beautiful Park!! So peaceful.. loved being among those beautiful trees. There is no signal for cellphones which made it more in tuned with nature. Truly recommend experiencing this once in your life.
Roxie R — Google review
My goodness! Absolutely stunning, rich history, and the trees are amazingly huge! A bit surprised that the entrance is 35, and there's no pet "allowed" on the trail. However, the rangers are understanding, and told me, "even though you carry him, next time you're here, pet's are not allowed." So, if anyone wants to bring your furry friends, leave them at home. But it's definitely worth the drive here.

I had a great experience visiting Sequoia National Park. The park is absolutely stunning, and the giant sequoia trees are truly awe-inspiring. I hiked the Grizzly Giant Loop Trail, which was a moderate hike but offered some amazing views. I also camped in the park, and the scenery was incredible. There is a large waterfall about 2 miles from the campground that is not too difficult to visit. The river next to the campground was also high with flowing water. I would definitely recommend Sequoia National Park to anyone looking for a beautiful and unforgettable outdoor experience."

It’s a really nice place to be with families and friends. So peaceful and relaxing place, most of the trails are not involved so much walking, so kids friendly. I missed a lot of especially the fresh and clean air! Definitely the place to be visiting every year!
Kevin Tong — Google review
Absolutely loved it.
The hike to the General Sherman was easy, the hike back up, not so much.
The trees are really big and cool, definitely one of the things you need to see before you leave this world (provided you're not immortal).
No phone service within a few miles of the park, which is amazing to those with phone addictions.

If you want to take a fantastic walk through the woods, this is where you need to go. The views are beyond words. So many wonderful things to see. The trees and mountains, and wildlife. The experience is one that you will remember for a lifetime. It's an amazing walk, you truly will enjoy. If you have never felt small after your stroll through the tree you will. Have a picnic and take in all of the beauty.

National Parks never disappoint and Sequoia was epic. The trees were majestic!! Pictures don’t show the beauty of these trees nestled within a great belt of coniferous forest, jeweled with mountain meadows.
The trails are inviting and provide a variety of ways to view the trees. They’ve created some paths that make it accessible for handicap. Restrooms are throughout the park and information centers. On our exiting the park, we saw a bear by the road. It’s was exciting and terrifying. I recommend packing a lunch and having a picnic.

They were doing controlled burns so there was a little smoke but my goodness it was absolutely beautiful! Winter is comming and it's quickly cooling down. Night time is getting very cold even though the sunny days have been warm.

One of the most beautiful national parks that I have ever been to! Lots of breathtaking views and enormous trees that are out of this world. There will be stops where you and take pictures. Really recommend visiting “General Sherman” Tree, as it is the largest tree in the world. Hiking to General Sherman is easy (downward hike), but hiking back up to the parking lot was the tough part.
The roads are narrow and saw deers crossing the road, please take care when driving. If you are driving an electric car, be sure to have enough mileage for the drive as there is only 1 Tesla destination charger (not supercharger). There is an admission fee of $35 (on 11/24/2023) that is good for 1 week. Recommend coming in early in the morning to avoid the long line of cars entering the park.
Christopher Joe — Google review
I am considering a visit during the summer, although I tend to find myself there during the winter season. It is undoubtedly a destination worth experiencing! The majestic towering trees, with their age-old presence, are sure to leave a lasting impression.
Connor Lundborg — Google review
Amazing National Park! The giant trees are unfathomably beautiful and words cannot describe their majestic sight. The many groves of Sequoias are awesome and the General Sherman is awe inspiring. The park has ample parking early in the morning, but fills quickly later in the day. Trails are well done and give great views of the non-stop scenery. Spent two days here with the family and could have easily spent more time lying in the forest with the trees. Definitely recommend!

Took the family on vacation to see California and one our our stops was Sequoia National Park. It is amazing and the trees are majestic. We went in the winter, might want to try the summer next time, The snow and ice were on the mountains which added to the beauty and the cost. The cost increased because you need to have snow chains to come into the park. If you don’t have the you have to rent then at around $100. We rented them but never used them. Go early because the park is crowded and the parking at the main attractions is limited. Man places to stop and take pictures of these 2000 year old trees. Caution it is straight up the mountain, so you won’t see the big trees until you get to 4000-5000 feet about 1 hour into the drive once in the park. If you’ve never been at high altitudes bring lots of water and maybe some Dramamine. Once we hit 7000 feet my jus started to feel sick so had to turn around. The Mountain View’s are outstanding and you could walk and take pictures all day. “Beware of Bear” Enjoy!

Part of the National Park system and completely worth it. Beautiful trees, landscapes, and the famous General Sherman tree. The road in between the sequoia entrance and kings canyon is closed so you’ll have to drive to the kings canyon other entrance. Well worth the visit!
JETS — Google review
Wow. Pictures do NOT do it justice. Give yourself lots of time to explore. Take the stairs up Moro rock - beautiful way to catch the sunset. Parking can be a challenge so be prepared to walk from various parking spots. Trails are well defined and ready to walk. I have some walking difficulty and used a hiking stick and was fine.
Tyson Heaton — Google review
This forest is a wonder and privilege to see. To be able to witness what mother nature has done beyond our lifetime is beyond words to describe here. This is something you must witness for yourselves. We could spend months in this Nation Park and still be under its captivating beauty each day.
Nelson Montero — Google review
Amazing park. Not as big as Yosemite, but just as pretty. Less crowded and bigger trees! General Sherman was cool but as you can see driving a pick up through a tree tells you how big the Sequoia’s are.
JASON NICASTRO — Google review
I love this place. Spent there 2 days and enjoyed every second. These trees are so amazing. The way of growing, how they survive fire. When you touch these monarchs, they are soft. This smell. Amazing.
Definitely a must.
Kat Ro — Google review
A picturesque place that is sure to take your breadth away. The giant sequoia trees are a must see if you’re in the area. For us, this was well worth the drive up to these snowy slopes.
Sandra Oberoi — Google review
This place was amazing! Seeing the floor of clouds that stretch across the mountains when you get to an elevation of 6,000 ft is breathtaking! The Sequoia's are massive!! It was a real treat for me and my family to be able to witness. Even the drive through the mountains to get there is beautiful! I would recommend this destination to anyone who enjoys nature and beautiful landscapes.

I wish I could give 10 stars! I'm blown away by the beauty of this place. Waited a long time to see these magnificent trees. Glad we took the trip in the winter because it was a wonderland of snow and ice. My dream came true to hike through the great sequoias!
Suzanne Karr-Herring — Google review
This was a beautiful place to visit it was snowing when we visited & 37°.
Snow chains are required install them on your vehicle before you visit to test so it's done with ease latter on site at 5000 ft or so .
They do sell snow chains on site but it's good to have a set before you arrive just in case they are sold out .
In the summer this will not be a concern.
Call ahead certain parts of the park you may want to visit sometimes close for the winter .
Be very careful where you take your pictures some of these places can be dangerous .
Hope you enjoy it as much as me & my daughter did ❤

Man what a great experience. Getting away from city noise, buildings, cell phone service, it was great. Followed a river that we heard from our campground and ended up finding a cool wooden bridge (a little sketchy). Also took home a natural souvenir of a bird’s beak that was stuck into a piece of bark I miraculously found. Deer walked right through campsite one morning. Great National Park!

One of the best family vacations we had. Didn't realize how huge this national park is! But it was beyond worth the 4 hour drive from our hotel to see those magnificent giants! You won't get through this national park. Took us all day to her half way through. But it was just scene after scene of amazing breathtaking natural beauty! 😍

Incredibly beautiful and amazing. We went during mid-March and a lot of it was closed off. We wanted to do Moro Rock and the Generals Highway, but the roads were closed off. We look forward to returning during a time of year when it is all open. Make sure you get gas before going in. And we had a hard time finding bathrooms. The road from Three Rivers is very twisty so if you get car sick, beware.
Corrina Casson — Google review
Visited this park during the Easter weekend. Was wonderful to witness the largest tree in the world. Trails were covered in snow and car chains were required. The sequoia giants are a treat to the eyes.
Tanya Kothiyal — Google review
God is great. They are way different than the pictures you see they are massive and thick. The road there was breathtaking and the snow made a contrast between the trees. General Sherman tree is a must to stop by. It’s a bit icy to get to that tree. Almost slipped. This is definitely the place you want to spend time with family. The 35$ fee is worth it.

Best stops along Riverside to Mammoth Lakes drive
The top stops along the way from Riverside to Mammoth Lakes (with short detours) are Kings Canyon National Park, Alabama Hills, and Big Bear Lake. Other popular stops include Convict Lake, Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center, and Outlets at Barstow.
The Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain is an all-year-round entertainment center, featuring winter bobsled tracks and summer water slides. The facility can be accessed via a chairlift and offers a range of activities for families to enjoy, including skiing, snow tubing, and building snowmen. It's located just a couple of hours away from Los Angeles and boasts breathtaking views of the surrounding area. If you're traveling with children, they'll love the experience too!
I had a great time at Big bear Lake with my family..! Just a couple of hours away from Los Angeles, it’s a wonderful place to spend a day or weekend, skiing, snow tubing, building a snowman or just enjoying the beautiful views. If you go with kids, it’s going to be more fun and they’re gonna love it for sure..! We booked a condo through Airbnb and that was so beautiful too..! I also highly recommend you to visit the Big bear Lake Village..! It was nice walking around the lake and getting pizza from the village..!

Great place to do a variety of things with the family. From the slides, the coaster, water slides, zipline, video games, and food court. Be aware, that if you tried to do everything in a day, you may spend more here than you would at Disneyland. But, if you're looking for some fun in the mountains, this is a great stop.
We went on a Sunday, I'm sure Saturday's are much busier.
There isn't any entry fee, you pay for each individual ride you decide to participate in. So it's nice in that aspect especially if you're on a budget or just want to do a quick ride on one thing and move on.
Martin T — Google review
Awesome place. At the time it is $9 per slide and 5 slides for $40 I think (forgot). You have to sign a waiver just in case you fly out so expect to add maybe 10 more minutes before you can even slide. After that you take the lift to the top and choose your cart to go down with. They look worn but it didn't matter when I used mine. At the top, you can choose from 2 lanes. One is meant for slower sliders but it's the same parallel track. They instruct you how to use the brakes and you're off. That simple. Just as a note, it can pick up speed quick so careful not to fly out the track and have fun!
I didn't record going down but I'll update it next time I go for sure.
Worth it and you can gain some speed if you really want to.

Hours of entertainment with so many different options here. It's not cheap, but worth trying. They really stepped up there. Summertime, non-snow activities. While the Alpine slide is still a blast, the new mineshaft coaster ($20) is fast, exhilarating and surprisingly long. Go karts and other attractions add to the fun.
Shawn Gillis — Google review
Wanted to go here on our visit to Big Bear because of all the great attractions and great reviews. It was snowing and the only attraction open was tubing. But that is the one thing we wanted to do as we didn't go skiing or anything. It was so much fun! The hill was just the right size and was exciting. I went about 4 times! The kids loved it! The price was about $10 more then should be, but I'm cool with it. Will have to come during the summer next to experience the other attractions!!
Jennifer Nillaga — Google review
Very fun. It's one of the best things to in Big Bear. However the prices are very steep. Like Seriously, 12$ for a short Zipline Like experience and the coaster was also highly priced. Though it was an enjoyable experience that I think you should go if you can afford, just keep in mind that if you do most of the activities with a family it can get very pricey.
Nicolas Macho — Google review
One of the very few places to go snow tubing during the winter when there's no snow, thanks to their snow machines. Came here for the snow tubing. Everyone loved it.
It gets busy pretty early. By noon, the parking lot was full. Entrance for tubing was $45 a person. It includes tubes and lift. Hanging out in the food area and outside the play area is free.
They do have other types of rides. Went in the Coaster and it was amazingly fun, way better than a ride at an amusement park.
There wasn't much seating in the eating area for how busy it got. But the food was a decent price and good for a small snack bar.
It was well worth the time and money to get away from the city. The drive was beautiful, with lots of trees and a huge lake. You could also spend part of the day at the city center.
I would recommend this place, especially if you have kids. They seem to love the snow.
Willem Van Der Rest — Google review
This place is pretty awesome! I would advise getting there early before they open if you visit on a holiday weekend like I did. The parking lot was horribly congested.
The coaster and luge are pretty fun. The coaster is expensive for one ride — $20.
The lines move slightly faster than you’d think, but they really should make it easier to sign the waiver. It holds up the lines.
Otherwise, there are also some other attractions that I didn’t bother with. But, it’s worth a stop.
Mel M — Google review
This place is an absolute blast! In my honest opinion, the mine shaft coaster is a must if you visit Big Bear Lake in the warmer months. It gets a little pricey with paying separately for the coaster, alpine slide, go karts- but it's worth it.
Nicholas McLaughlin — Google review
Overpriced and overrated. $20 for one ride on the roller coaster. $9 per go cart ride. $9 per slide down the hill. $9 per trip for snow tubing. You will spend as much as you would at Disneyland. No good food options. One particular staff member made me so mad, I was almost willing to catch an assault charge but there was no snow this Thanksgiving week so I had no choice but to let my kids play all day there.
Jimmy Pham — Google review
This was such a great place to spend the day with the family. They have great snow tubing and other rides also. There is a roller coaster, zip line, bumper cars, and slide long slide to go down on a little sled. There is a place to order food and drinks and a restroom inside. Everything is a separate price and the lines do get long in the early afternoon. Go early to beat the crowds.
Camille Rios — Google review
We visited on New Year's Day and waited 45 minutes to sign the waivers. Then we went and bought tickets which was a quick line. Only thing is you buy the day pass for almost $50 and then the chair lift is an add on, as is the rollercoaster. So it is not an all inclusive ticket. It could get very pricey with all of those combined. The arcade is lacking with approximately only 10 games, several of which were broken. The inside is small and basic, some picnic tables outside. But they sell churros! Yum! (I think $4 each).
All in all it felt like a bit of a rip off and the long wait did not help. But hopefully it is shorter and quicker on a non holiday. The kids loved the tubing and chair lift to the sledding tube, however, so all was not lost!
Grace Beckett — Google review
We had so much fun! The activities were a little pricey but definitely worth it. We spent one afternoon tubing and the next day we rode the eagle and the alpine coaster and all of the activities were a blast!
Sign your waivers before getting in line or they will not let you participate. We got a cabin within walking distance so we didn't have to hassle with parking which seemed pretty full on weekends.
Cara — Google review
I'm giving them a three because it is frustrating that you have to go to 3 different places to buy tickets. They should have one designated area to buy tickets for all the events. It feels like there are three separate owners working on one location. From a business standpoint, they would be able to make more revenue by creating package deals if there was oly one area to buy tickets.
Ron Quintana — Google review
It's a little pricy for what you get but the kids love it, tubing, alpine slide, some old video games, snack bar, DON'T FORGET TO SIGN YOUR WAIVERS before getting in line for the rides
C Armistead — Google review
I liked the atmosphere and the games, but the tiring thing is when you waiting to take a line to get a ticket for ride and when you take the line for waiver, is very long, it takes an hour and more , and in the end you will play one game a day, and at 4 pm they close . we played in the snow for one hour for three persons . It cost $140.games are expensive there.
Big Bear Lake, a small city in Southern California, is nestled on the shores of the picturesque Big Bear Lake and surrounded by the rugged San Bernardino National Forest. It's a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts with its Bear Mountain and Snow Summit ski resorts, as well as its mountain trails. The town offers a charming village with boutiques, gift shops, and restaurants. The area's stunning landscapes have made it a sought-after filming location for Hollywood producers.
The Big Bear Discovery Center is a substantial facility that showcases exhibitions centered around nature, eco-tours, an amphitheater, and maps of the trails in the area. Visitors can register for tours of Big Bear Lake via canoe or kayak as well as guided trips led by naturalists to explore the Baldwin Lake Ecological Reserve. Unfortunately, the exhibits at the Discovery Center are closed temporarily due to remodeling, but outside activities such as nature walks and talks are still offered periodically by park rangers or volunteers.
This center was very informative and has interactive activities for kids to learn. The restroom is clean, but there are no trash cans to throw away. There is a gift shop if interested, I got a keychain.

As of 11-12-21 the main bld is still closed. But the kiosk is great! Nice seating area. Clean bathrooms. A fun outdoor zone for families. The little hiking trail is family friendly. The nature walk we took was great. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly.

The people here are so friendly and helpful! There are some small exhibits to look at and some children’s activities. There are restrooms available in the front. They also confirmed for me that my America The Beautiful interagency pass is good for parking in these US Forest areas too and gave me a hanger for my rear view mirror

Unfortunately the Discovery Center exhibits are closed for remodeling now, so there wasn't anything to see. We walked the Alpine Trail to get here and it was a nice easy walk. There were rangers/volunteers setting up outside, and they're still having nature talks/walks periodically outside the building. The bathrooms were EXTREMELY clean. Water fountains weren't working though so fill up water elsewhere.

A very popular goto place when you need guidance from the most friendly and professional rangers about where to go and hike in the Big Bear Lake area. They would provide you with free map and point out where to park if you want to save money buying day pass. The location offered a very informative display for the kids to see and touch. And there are short hikes suitable to the very young or old.

Horrible. Went for what I thought was a free concert then found out we had to pay a fee. Super Small area. I was willing to pay the fee but then was told that I was not allowed in because the dress code doesn’t allow sandals without a heel strap… RIDICULOUS!!! It doesn’t even say anything about their dress code on their website OR at the place!!!!

I am having a bad experience right now. Waitress Ibeth spilled drinks on us just because she got distracted by saying hi to her friends ..even tho she brought the drinks we didn't ask for. It's been 30 min and we haven't had what we asked. We complained about it with "Jorge" twice ... he did NOTHING about it. Don't come to this place. They charge you to enter and for the table that is not even worth it.

I can't say enough about how TERRIBLE this place was. What a waste of money!! Those teenage looking managers were on a huge power trip and were so rude,They desperately need a course on customer service. I Celebrated my 40th birthday with a huge group and had to pay $20 a person just to enter another $50 just to sit and $8 for each little 1/4" shot in a Dixie cup. $300 later they CHANGED rules half way through the night to force masks WHILE we were all dancing. I called ahead to reserve a table and wasn't told any of this before hand. Such a disappointment

Good place for live music and to associate with others or get togethwr with friends. Good waitress. Not enough bartenders and the bar is too small for the actual needs of crowed. Drinks are served to perfection. Not all bartenders are good but the times ive gone they been really good.
Compact museum with exhibits about the iconic hamburger chain, at the site of the first location.
It is a free entry museum, and definitely worth the visit if you are in the area, even if you need to take a detour. Lot of history and memoriblia. The staff was very knowledgeable. It is free but donations are welcome. Do not forget to buy your magnet!

Unfortunately we passed through early in the morning before they opened but it was still cool to see the original McDonald's. They have all of the very first characters. The Hamburglar on the sign arch is the best. The side of the building is covered in artwork. Very nostalgic. Next time we're in the area we'll try again.

It would be nice if it was a little more welcoming. As much as McDonald’s makes they could care about their history more. I wish they had a better retail area. But after all that complaining it’s a really cool part of American history. Even better that it’s free. There’s a military museum next door but I didn’t go in. I loved seeing all the old toys. N they also have a bathroom. No snacks that i saw.

It was so amazing to relive part of my childhood there. A lot of memorabilia. You can purchase some stickers, souvenirs, and magnets. The entrance is free which is great. It could be a good 45 min approx to go through the museum. I will be coming back again in the future. I took one star away because I think they could do a little bit better on restoring and maintenance for the exterior. It could use some paint and restoration for the iconic children's games.

I will remember this day as a part of History. It was such an honor to go to one of the most iconic establishments where it all started for McDonald's. With all the money that they have as a corporation, I don't know why they didn't keep this open as a restaurant. So many memories. So many iconic stories, but if you're a McDonald's fan this is definitely a spot for you to visit. I will go back as it was closed at 8:30 in the morning but just the stuff on the outside got me the Goosebumps

This place was awesome! All of the happy meal toys that were on display provided for the absolute coolest nostalgia trip I've had in such a long time. The gentleman overseeing the place was very kind and inviting, and even shared some great recommendations for places to stop on my trip out in California. There's even a souvenir penny machine in here to boot! I would recommend this place to every single person who finds themselves driving down route 66 in San Bernardino.

Amazing historical site. This is the place where the biggest restaurant chain of the world was founded. After seeing the movie ‘The Founder’ I just had to visit this, now, museum. The staff welcomes you on a more than friendly way and tells you all about the past of this place.
Erik van Meegen — Google review
This little odd quirky off-beat museum is chalk full of nostalgia for baby boomers and gen xers alike from the boatloads of kitschy Happy Meal toys to McDonald's amusement playground attractions. This place is a time capsule for one of the most significant American pop culture icons at the actual site where it all began. When one enters inside, it is reminiscent of stepping into the Twilight Zone as much as stepping into the past. It is not associated officially with the McDonald's Corporation or any of its restaurants, but it is an homage to the genesis of the very first eatery developed by the two brothers who gave this chain their namesake. The museum attendant is an incredibly friendly fellow. Plus, the entrance is free.

Thought it was going to be boring but we had a great time looking at everything. All those toys reminded me of my childhood and made me laugh and smile…. Also, it was very interesting that they had McDonald’s toys from other countries, so that was super fun to see.

I been wanting to go here for a long time. Finally got the chance to be in California and check the place it. They guy who worked there was very nice and very knowledgeable about McDonald's. However I was not impressed with the place. I guess I just expected more toys and to be more organized.

Nothing crazy but still a really cool place to visit and see the history of this iconic restaurant. It's a time capsule for your childhood. Get ready for a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

A Bite of History: Reviewing the McDonald's Museum
A trip to the world's first McDonald's, nestled in a quiet town, promised a fascinating glimpse into the golden arches' empire's beginnings. My expectations were a bit mixed, unsure what to anticipate.
While the museum itself could be seen as understated, it held a curious charm. Stepping inside felt like a walk back in time, a simpler and perhaps more authentic representation of the early McDonald's experience. This feeling was amplified for me, having watched the "Golden Arches" documentary on Netflix, which provided context and fueled my sense of nostalgia.
If you're seeking a flashy, interactive museum experience, this might not be it. However, for those with a soft spot for McDonald's history and appreciate a touch of nostalgic charm, it holds a certain appeal.
Here's my breakdown:
Pros:
A unique chance to visit the birthplace of McDonald's.
Simple presentation offers an authentic feel of early McDonald's.
Can be particularly enjoyable for those familiar with the "Golden Arches" documentary.
Cons:
Limited exhibits and interactivity might feel underwhelming for some.
Location in a small town might not be convenient for everyone.
Recommendation:
If you're a die-hard McDonald's fan with a hankering for history, or if you've seen the documentary and are curious, go for it! However, if you're short on time or have other priorities, it might not be the top of your list.
Remember: This is just my personal opinion. Your individual experience could vary depending on your expectations and interests.

A true slice of Americana. The staff, especially Jonathan who served me, were very friendly. The 2 for $3.99 mix and match promo was super considering the burgers are 2, maximum 3 bite sized, but very tasty. The fried apple pie…….DELICIOUS!!!
The museum was cute and if you’ve watched Founder with Michael Keaton parlaying Kroc brilliantly, the experience is even better. I was snapping away like a possessed paparazzi. There is so much history on the walls and cabinets, all excellently explained by the film, running continuously on the TV.
I loved the creative use of space and the memorabilia on display.
It’s definitely worth a visit.

Definitely come here if you want to have nostalgia in seeing the old mcdonald toys that u had when you were still a kid. This place is specially good for 70s-90s kids. It is also free to go to and the staff are really friendly and nice.

The drive through the neighborhood reminded me of driving down Charter Way in Stockton: a run-down and sketchy neighborhood.
The back lot has a run-down, abandoned building with many different figures outside: a giant rooster, Sylvester, quarter rides typically found outside stores, the Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo, and more. It gives off creepy, abandoned-town horror movie vibes.
When we walked in, we were hit with an organized hoarder vibe, and two human manikins standing in the distance dressed in old uniforms gave us a slight jump scare. We walked to the counter and picked up a flyer they had at the counter that showed the history of McDonald's. A voice out of nowhere greeted us. I was looking everywhere for the person that this voice came from. Slowly, a figure seemed to appear from behind the counter, just like a freaking horror movie! The counter was crowded with a COVID shield and other items that blocked the view of the man possibly sitting in the older section that wasn't open to the public. The man seemed awkward while he tried making small talk, but he was pleasant.
As we walked through the rows of overly packed glass cabinets, my eyes became overstimulated by everything to read and look at, and things blurred together. Every inch of the wall behind the shorter, overly packed glass cases had newspaper articles and pictures, but without going behind the cases, you couldn't read. There were items from McDonald's worldwide and even competitor's memorabilia.
If you're not ready for the last turn, you'll get a jump scare from the giant costume standing and looking down at you. On your way out, there is an old marry-go-round and tree with a funny mirror on the backside. There are a few items for purchase: pins, postcards, beanies, and stickers. Oh, the "sister" business next door, in the same parking lot, is an even smaller building for a military museum. We didn't visit.
Overall, we can say that we have been to the historic McDonald's and drove down Route 66. Would we be back for a visit? Only If I was to bring my other two teens so they could mark it off strange things to visit list. However, if we were together during this visit, we wouldn't need to revisit.

Interesting place to visit. It was the original site of the first McDonald's. Some of the sign is the original too. The collection of Happy Meal toys and photos in the museum has to be almost the best if not the best in the world. The person who was running the museum was so knowledgable and gave us all the information about the backstory between the original McDonald brothers and the evil conniving Ray Croc. Great stop well worth the time.
Outdoor retail complex with popular brand-name stores, plus restaurants & a movie theater.
This is a fantastic outdoor mall location. Well placed with a great mix of classic well known shops, great eats and mom and pop shops. There is a theater and plenty of sitting areas, parking and fun things to see. There are surrounding stores and restaurants to visit as well. Ample parking and close to freeway.

I love coming here during the holidays to see the Christmas lights and browse all the shops they have. It does get very crowded and parking can be difficult to find even in the lots outside the mall especially on the weekends. Some of my favorite food spots here are Lucille's, The State, and The Dessert Bar. The mall has a little grassy area towards the center where kids usually play, and during the holidays they can catch a train ride or a picture with Santa. The streets and sidewalks are also wheelchair/stroller friendly, though since it gets crowded it can get hard to navigate inside a smaller store.

I think Victoria Gardens is a great place to shop and eat. It's got such a good vibe and a lot of the great stores.
Plus it has a gravity to it. If you're in the Rancho Cucamonga area for any reason, you'll be drawn there. I was in the area to attend Rolling Loud California and needed some extra warm clothing because of the unseasonably cool weather. I got what I wanted and a great meal all in a place that truly felt alive and vibrant.

I'd you love good food, good shopping, and a great atmosphere then make your way to Victoria Gardens. This place has it all and then some. From fast food to upscale dining, lounge wear to formal it's here. My favorite time to visit is the holiday season because of the decorations and the big beautiful Christmas tree in the courtyard that brings smiles to so many. Great place to take a walk and window shop or people watch with a nice warm cup of coffee or hot cocoa. Fun for people of all ages. Come and enjoy what the IE has to offer. Tonight we celebrated our anniversary at Paul Martin's. Beautiful restaurant with a great menu, bar and staff that makes for an excellent dining experience .

Victoria Garden is the landmark in Rancho Cucamonga especially around the holiday season. The Christmas atmosphere there is simply magical! It is a great place to hang out with friends and family, take a walk or enjoy a good meal in a relaxing atmosphere. However, there have been some safety concerns lately such as car windows bring smashed or cars being broken into. Like in any other places, always be mindful of your surroundings especially when you park your car.

This mall feels more high-end than the one down at Ontario. The streets are decorated, and you can drive through this mall which makes this mall feel like a small town on its own. This has a very similar feel to The Americana back home.

Love this outdoor mall, can be busy but always able to find parking. Love the shops and restaurant they have to offer, love the cobble stone sidewalks, fun just to walk around and people watch as well. Lots of benches through out the property. Lots to do even if you don’t wNt to shop, like train and water pad for kids, farmers market available too.

I wish I knew about this fun place when I first moved out here. It is so fun, has so many brands and stores to shop at. It feels like a small town/village where u walk outdoors to all the different restaurants, shops and stores. It is very festive this time of year with beautiful lights and decorations

Quite possibly one of the best times that I’ve had in Cali was at this shopping center. I don’t know that I can call it a shopping center. It appeared to be so much more than that. There were a plethora of stores that were appealing to myself as well as my mom and other family. There was no way we could finish this in one evening. There were too many stores and restaurants to name. I plan to conquer this mega-outdoor mall upon my return because I will not be defeated. Plenty of parking and the best thing about it was that it was outside.

Victoria Gardens is a great place, lots of stores for sure, so many that couldn't take pictures of all. From regular to fancy stores.... WOW !! The parking is huge and if you are lucky you get to find parking by the streets where stores are at. There is an AMC theatre in between all that, many nice restaurants of all kinds of food as well. Also a little train ride for kids. Be prepare to walk a lot...... it's worth it though.

I love coming here to shop and eat. I live 30 min away, we don’t have anything like this in my town. There are so many shops and restaurants and the streets are always clean. Park's 84 acres are dominated by Lake Gregory, which is surrounded by trails, picnics & pines.
Love it! The walk is great around the lake, lovely scenery, fresh air, beautiful mountains and trees. Many times we been here and I cant get enough of it. For the 1st time we went on a boat ride around the lake on a cold day because we reserved a reservation weeks before. We made the best fun out of it with bubbles, blankets, and a Bose to connect to our music. My daughter loved it. I recommend doing it.

Lake Gregory is one of my most absolutely favorite places. From taking a beautiful, serine and peaceful walk around the lake, to fishing, kayaking, boating, duck feeding, and the water park; there is always something to enjoy here. Lake Gregory has the cutest night markets with good eats and amazing vendors, amongst the monthly events that are hosted here. This weekend we enjoyed and participated in the annual lantern festival. It is always a romantic and memorable special experience with your loved ones. I highly recommend this event and Lake Gregory. Oh, there is also a dog park.

Beautiful, relaxing walk around the lake. Any time of year, you can make it around in a little over an hour. There is a lovely event center at one end and a grassy area near the senior center. In the summer, people use the waterpark and picnic along the shoreline.

This is a small lake compared to big bear and arrowhead lake but in my opinion this is the most beautiful of them all. You can walk around the whole lake, I haven’t done it but it looks doable. There are areas where you can swim but you have to pay to do that. Definitely recommend this little gem.

Regarding the inflatable zone. ONE ATTENDANT is admitting the online ticket holders at the gate. A thousand people in line. ONE attendant. (See photo of line) ONE person is also checking all coolers for alcohol. The checking process is incredibly slow and inefficient. We have been in line 30 minutes on blazing asphalt with no shade and moved about half way to the entrance. So it looks like we will miss first hour of play time.
Meanwhile the line for the walk up ticket windows has about 30 people and they are let in (a separate gate, cutting line) very quickly.
It’s a county park. Government sloth employees mindset. DMV meets water park FTW!!!
Update: Per the Ranger I spoke with, swimming is PROHIBITED in the ENTIRE lake except at the paid water park area. You can only enjoy swimming for a fee and long wait in line. Nature is heavily regulated here.
Update: there is also an hour line to play on the inflatables after the park entry line (photo)👍👍

What a fun and great place to visit for the whole family. Dog friendly is a huge plus. Dogs must be on leash when not in the dog parks. You can walk the entire lake via trails and roads. There are many spots for fishing and chillin'. I've never been here at night, but it must be so beautiful. There's also a free trolley for the lake area. At least for the weekend.

Such a great area for an easy 4mile walk around the lake. Stop halfway for a boat ride along the lake. If you are going to rent a canoe I recommend starting earlier in the day. Mid afternoon can bring strong wind. I went mid-October and the area was not crowded. I heard from many people that it can get really crowded in the summer. With that being said, all the activities described sound like a fun family outing. It is amazing how close to LA this little mountain town is and how far from the bustle of the city I felt. Great way to detox from the city and recharge.

Great place to take the family and spend a day. Parking is $10 for the whole day and there is a nice trail, a bit over two miles, that will take you around the lake. If you are interested in the aquatic/inflatable water park, it opens around May and closes for the season in late September.

What a fun place. We came here while camping at dogwood because it was a hot day and we heard that the had water play here. We came on a Wednesday in July so it's summer time and everyone is out camping. We got here at about 11 and it was already pretty busy. The main parking lot was full but we found a place on the street and it was a short walk. For the ticket to play on all the water blowups and the big slide it was 20 bucks. A little more than I would like to pay but was still worth it. The beach had a lot of people but we were able to find a great spot on the water. The big slide was fun but the line went pretty slow. The blowups were a blast. I'm an old guy (42) and I was out there with two of my teanagers and really had a great time. Even with a LOT of people out playing you still find your place and are able to play. They allowed ice chest and drinks but no alcohol. They also had a little stand with food and drinks. We will be back here for sure because it was a great day.

Found Lake Gregory because Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead were too crowded. Lake Gregory is not as big as the two other popular lakes that's it's more peaceful around here.
It's great for kids too because there was plenty of space to play with snow and build snowmen. Parking was not a problem, however, the snow was thick and deep, our car (Subaru Outback) even had a hard time going in and getting out of the parking area.
I would love to come here in spring and other seasons. It probably will be beautiful and still peaceful.

Lake Gregory is a beautiful place to visit, easy to get to with parking right on the shoreline at the northern end and though I've never caught a fish there it's fun to try while cooling off in the water!
There's a hiking trail all the way around the lake and a water park at the southern end that's great for everyone!
I only gave it a 4 star because it can get a little windy at times but still worth the drive up the mountain!

Clean up and some construction is currently going on in the south parking lot, which is good to see they are maintaining things here. The park is kept up pretty well. There is a dog park, fishing, exercise equipment and a small water park. You can walk around most of the lake (maybe the whole thing but we didn't make it). It is a nice area to get away from the cities. There are a few benches and trash bins on the walking trail.
Large, popular water park with dozens of slides & attractions, plus an area for tots & a sand beach.
This park is so much fun; I would recommend bringing the kids! Only about 3 rides weren't operating that day, which was great! We got on all of the others! The longest line we waited in was 15 minutes! I will admit, I was expecting a longer wait times. Food was AWESOME!
Make sure you remember sun screen AND reapply! Stay hydrated! 💦

The place is a good place to visit with family and friends, to have fun in the water, the rides are good... Just that making a line for so long! It's crazy, by the time they close, you don't enjoy all the rides, maybe a few, and if you want the line to be faster, you have to buy a pass that is a bit pricey 🏊🏼♀️🌊💦⛲😎☀️well other than that my family and I had fun, did our best to enjoyed as much as we could

It's Raging Waters. How can you not have fun? The chicken tenders are definitely expensive at $15 but they're really good if that's any consolation. The fries are also good. The lazy river is fun as long as you're in a tube. The water is very dirty so you don't really want to get in it. The rides are all great and the staff is friendly. It's a good time. Alot plenty of time for parking. While they have several shuttles and a bus, it's alot of people to move around.

Cool family spot but there are a lot of negatives. Pizza at the cabana sucks. Preferred parking is $50! Like wow. Ice was not cold in the drinks. Tubes in the lazy river are first come first serve basis. Waves in the wave pool are not even high. Lol But I would come back tho.

We got the tickets online the night before, there was a Labor Day sale, one adult ticket was $39.99 plus a service fee around $4 ($8 service fee for 2 tickets). We also bought the standard parking ($25) and H2Go standard pass ($55). The parking was fine, we got there early as the park was opening. You have to ride a tram so I would recommend getting there early if you buy standard parking. We thought the H2Go pass saved a lot of waiting on a Saturday and allowed us to go on more rides. It was not overly crowded. A Beyond Burger w/ fries was around $18, so was the small locker which fit one backpack. It was fun! Lots of enjoyable water rides, my favorites were High Extreme and Bombs Away 😎

A summer day perfectly spent with kids and friends!
Pristine wave pool , kiddie pool, and those big slides huh!! The big slides are more than enough for your adequate adrenaline flow...
Please remember of the long lines you will be experiencing for all big rides..
This was my second visit in 4 years and as always I found 2 to 3 rides were under maintenance.
Make sure you have enough of sunscreen and a sunglass.
Food inside is too expensive ,and not that savory , if you are taking premium parking $50, you may bring food and keep in cooler.
Have a waterproof mobile pouch or keep it in locker. Complete park is now cashless.

It's a great place. If you are looking for fun for a day, this would be a perfect water park for you.
But if you are looking for something very exciting, this may not be the best place for you.
There's a shuttle bus for a USD 20 parking pass. Not too far from the park.
We arrive at 1120, leaving around 1700. Save your favorite spot to the last could save your time on queuing.
The summer sale of USD 39.99 per person is a great deal.
I believe that the raging racer is the best facility for those who like exciting facilities and dislike queuing.

Group of 6 friends and I came on Father’s Day and it was -awesome- no long lines on any of the rides, we managed to do every single ride in the park. Snacks and stuff were pretty $$$ but that’s expected at any theme park. The wave pool had very small waves, but the lazy river was fantastic.

Raging Waters Los Angeles deserves a resounding 5-star rating for its exhilarating water park experience. While the $50 preferred parking is optional, I highly recommend purchasing it for the convenience and ease it brings to the day. The thrilling water rides and attractions make a waterproof cellphone case an absolute must-have, allowing you to capture every exciting moment worry-free. However, finding available lunch tables can be a bit challenging as some visitors leave their belongings on them without renting lockers. Nevertheless, this minor inconvenience pales in comparison to the overall enjoyment the park offers. While the $20 slush with one-time refill availability may not be the best value, the fun-filled activities and joyous atmosphere more than compensate for it. Raging Waters Los Angeles guarantees an unforgettable and splashing good time for everyone, making it an ideal destination for families and thrill-seekers alike.

We went to the water park . The service was good and the slides were fun. The lines were decent in length. At the worst it was a fifteen minute wait.
Biggest advise is to arrive before 10 in order to secure a table for your family.
Do be aware that they have college students as lifeguards and workers at the water park. They were very a good people and friendly .
We also had problems with the parking which will cost $25 . But the bus was so fast to pick up. The food was kind expensive and not every thing they have as cappuccino they don’t have….

Pros = This is the best water park in SoCal, lots of different slides for all ages, a good lazy river, big kids play area, decent food and amenities.
Cons = The $50 "Preferred" parking lot is bullshizzery! You used to be able park close to the entrance if you got there early for the standard fee, but now it doesn't matter, $25 puts in the overflow lots a mile away and you have to wait for a tram, the preferred was half empty all day, that sucks especially for people with little ones.
They also could use some more shade structures around the food area, standing in line for 30-45 minutes in direct sun is brutal at 90+.
A Ev — Google review
Unless you pay $50 bucks for preferred parking, the experience is terrible. Even though it’s no where close to being sold out the tram comes once every 20 minutes. It’s also not very well maintained, slides have holes, speakers are rusted.

Great place to keep Kool on a hot summer day but they have a lot of issues, one day they didn't have parking. It's a cashless park and their whole system was down not able to take payments at the front gate when purchasing tickets. Lines to purchase food can take up to a couple hours to get your food. They need to improve these things and the experience would be better.

Very bad organization! There is not enough parking space for cars. very long queues for rides and for food. there is not enough space to put your things! no free tables to eat. if you bought a parking lot for $25, get ready to take a bus to the park and then back, there is a very long line back, so it's better to get out early. The food is not very tasty, it is better to take something with you
Chain of movie theaters, some with multiple screens, stadium seats & self-service ticketing kiosks.

It's always nice to go to Cinemark, I do however hope that they reinstate their refills for large soda and large popcorn, the prices are still on par with other theaters, but they still will not let us get refills on popcorn or soda. Now before the movie starts they have about 40 minutes combined of advertisements and previews and by the time that's done so is your popcorn and soda :-) other than that the theater is always clean and the employees are always nice

Pretty nice theater, wish they had some bigger theater options like a large theater with XD for some of the bigger blockbuster movies. Would prefer driving to Jess Ranch than going to the mall. They have concessions delivery which is convenient to order ahead and skip the lines. Especially being a movie club member and already using the app anyways. Only real gripe is cleanliness. Came here for a 10:20 showing and unfortunately our seats were covered with popcorn and trash and the restroom wasn’t much better. Staff is always friendly and offers help if needed.

This is definitely one of the nicer cinemarks that i have been to. I love that the beverages are self serve and that they offer a kettle corn popcorn that isnt made with cheap kettle corn seasoning. They also offer a bar with very good drinks, which sometimes are a bit on the strong side, but in a good way! It was very clean and had extremely comfortable seats which reclined compared to standard theatres. If your movie isnt ready yo seat you just yet they have a small waiting area and light up sign to indicate when it is ready. Overall i have had a great experience with both the theatre and the workers in it!

Please stop hiring millennials .. I'm not expecting a smile or even a greeting these days but not encountering the entitled know-it-all attitude would be nice. Man some of your younger kid workers wouldn't know a respectful pleasant attitude if it hit them in the face .. otherwise a good experience.
Museum dedicated to Route 66, famed Main Street of America, has stories, photos, artifacts & more.
What a fun museum. Such a beautiful layout of Route 66 memorabilia and archives. Delvin is a volunteer whom we had the pleasure of speaking with. He is so knowledgeable about the route and has fun facts to share with anyone who wants to listen. He is very friendly and his excitement to share his stories is contagious. He is great at pointing out some of the smaller details that might get lost in this plethora of goodies. The museum has several cute little photo ops and some larger ones too. This museum is put together well and they take care to display their items so it isn't a bunch of stuff just put in a corner. Would highly recommend the California Route 66 Museum for all ages.

We stopped here on our way to Vegas. It is free. The staff is very welcoming. We got many souvenirs from there at very affordable prices. The place has so much history to show. Kids loved the cars displayed there. There is also a train station just opposite to the museum. Luckily kids got to see two trains during the visit.

Great place for families and friends to go to. From outside looking in it seems like a small place, but it's huge when you get inside. There are 3 room full of antiques, photos, books, etc. The main room has merchandise/souvenirs. FYI they are close Monday to Wednesday.

California Route 66 Museum
Route 66 Victorville, California
February 2022
We visited the California Route 66 Museum last year and we decided to revisit the Museum once again this year on our latest road trip. The reason for this trip was to actually see more of the Museum and see more of the displays. Our previous trip was more of a Photographic trip. There is always something you miss or probably didn't see on a previous visit. This was the case. We looked more into the old photos to learn more about the history. Thankfully we had some much needed help from several of the volunteers such as Delvin Roy Harbour and Benita Morgan-Bushop. There was one other volunteer at the museum but unfortunately I did not get her name. Delvin showed us some older photos and what building were there at that time period. It was fantastic looking at these photos and listening to its history. Of course we still manage to take lots of photos in the museum..
The Museum is a great place to visit. There are lots of photo opportunities especially for selfies or with family and friends. Take a seat in The VW bus or take a photo by the classic car or even take a photo in front of the Victorville Outhouse. With several rooms and displays you can learn so much about this Route 66 Town and history. The museum also has a gift shop with great merchandise. We have added a few photos of the merchandise in this post.
We definitely will be returning in the near future. It's a fun place to visit with great volunteers and lots of fun things to see.

I definitely recommend visiting the 66 museum and feel the historical significance

It is located along the way that we must pass, so we decided to stop by and take a look. It turned out to be absolutely amazing! The staff welcomed us warmly, and we learned so much about the history of Route 66 and experienced the true essence of a road trip! 😎

We arrived there but it was closed! Later we saw in Google that in Tuesday and Wednesday it's closed so it was our fault we didn't see the museum inside!
The 3 star is only because the neighborhood was a bit sketchy. A lot of shady and homeless guys! We were afraid to even let our car in the parking! And we arrived around 14:00. It wasn't even late in the afternoon!

Loved this little gem located in Victorvillle. Didn't know about this museum until I did a search on Google on stops driving to Vegas. The museum is free, but they do accept donations. Cool vintage items inside and plenty of photo-op opportunities. Highly recommend checking out when in the area.

This is a small museum full of interesting history about how Route 66 was built, friendly staff and a souvenir shop. Full tour is going to take about 20 to 30 minutes.
Multiple ski areas plus tubing, night riding, lessons, rentals & disc golf in the summer.
The slopes are great and the lifts are simple. If it is your first time it is best to go with the lesson, rental, and lift package for price and value. If you are on a budget go on a weekday night ride, less crowds and free parking. The food is pretty good with reasonable prices. They have a repair shop and gear store.
Mario Garcia-Gillespie — Google review
Great staff outside to help with newbies getting their release forms signed and lift tickets for the day. Bunny slopes are ideal for beginners and nice intermediate groomed trails as well. Weekend are busy, so arriving early is best! Check me on the regular on IG @Dreamtreecoaching

Close enough to get to from San Diego without having to drive up very curvy roads. Always a good weekend resort to get your snowboarding or skiing "fix" when you don't have a lot of time for vacation. Parking is not free, but the ramp and lower self parking level are free. Love their repair and services department, very helpful! The food in their Cafe can really add up on expenses, so bringing your own (but not allowed inside resort) is always a wise plan. Love that they have night boarding and the flex pass starts whenever you arrive. You don't feel pressured for time starts. Their customer service is also very friendly, understanding and helpful!

Love that this resort is so close to the city. The service throughout the entire resort was 5 star: the lift mechanics are kind , helpful and friendly. the rental equipment people were also very nice & helpful. only downside is that a few of the lessons instructors werent that friendly. Overall, great experience and would definitely visit again~! *Buy ticket (lift, rental, etc) online prior to driving up

Super easy drive up from LA with minimal crowds on a Saturday in April. Still pretty decent coverage on the ground with almost every run open at the West Resort. They groomed most of the terrain leading to some great corn turns by mid day! Afternoon conditions here get pretty sticky this time of year though.
Trailview Studios — Google review
Overall, the experience was awesome for a first-timer. Beware it can be very pricey ($150-$180 per adult if renting equipment). The slopes were fun and had enough thrill for us. There are definitely higher and steeper adventures for the more experienced. They have a restaurant on site, a bar, free wifi, ski/snowboard shop for necessities, bathrooms, and plenty of parking and benches. Parking was free when we went on a weekend in April. Highly recommend if you've never gotten on ski's or a snowboard before. Every worker we came interacted with at the park was very kind and helpful. Be sure to get your free stickers and air freshener at the information cabin!

Quick drive away from LA. Not crowded Thursday, a little foggy and windy towards the top, but fresh combed powder makes this beginner skier happy.
The chair lifts need some TLC, and the food is below average given the above average prices. I would pack lunch and snacks from home on my next visit.
I found the staff friendlier and more helpful than other So Cal snow resorts, a plus that makes the day trip worth it.
Overall, the family had a great day. Thanks mountain high 😁

An amazing winter oasis in real close proximity to west LA.
I love skiing and to be able to have the luxury of doing so while not leaving Southern California is a dream.
Although at times it may be Icy the trails are well groomed and even when storms have yet to arrive the staff makes sure their is enough snow to feel like you are skiing in the Swiss alps.
Two thumbs up
Side note. Renting sometimes takes some time so I highly recommend either leaving yourself extra time or renting from the city a few miles down the road.
Yonason Quinn — Google review
This is one of the best ski/snowboarding resort for beginners. Compared to other places in CA, there isn't a lot of people here so you can get many runs in per hour. The parking is also spacious and wide, and the lift chairs are spaced out so no pressure to get off/on asap. The staff is very friendly. Buying a Season ticket for sure. Plus, getting here is easier than other places.
John Smith — Google review
Fast moving lift lines, very good veteran discount and good vibes. The staff is nice, helpful, and friendly and always willing to help. I began snowboarding this season and have already visited 3 times, one being a bust due to high winds. If you want a good place to learn to snowboard/ski this place is for you.

Great local mountain with lots of snow. Not too crowded. Quick and easy drive. Awesome place to teach kids how to ski or snowboard. Friendly staff, great grilled food items, and lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Small mountain compared to big bear. Really small compared to Mammoth or Tahoe. But it under $100 for all day. Look for discount coupons .

If I am skiing for one day, I'm going to mountain high. Easy access. No windy mountain roads and free lift tickets on your b-day. It's not too crowded and the slopes are good for my skill level.
Joe Mardesic — Google review
Fun outing for this winter. It was clean, snow was soft, not too badly crowded. Check in was easy enough. They offer a free shuttle if you have to park in the lower lot. The lifts felt safe and were cute for some Instagram pics. For 120 dollars and 4 hours, I think it was priced fairly. Food was 10ish dollars per item (hot dog, soup, pizza slice) but expected for a resort. 7/10
My complaint is that it is not beginner friendly. Even the easiest slopes were located close to ravines and gullies, which made them scary/dangerous as someone completely inexperienced. I wouldn’t recommend visiting if you haven’t 1) taken classes 2) know how to snowboard. A lot of seasoned riders will get irate with you if you’re down for more than a couple seconds. The crowds right now are weird people. Ruins the fun
Other than that, good time. I can see myself coming back now that I understand a bit more 😼
Monika De Leon — Google review
All these years, I have put off coming to Mountain High to snowboard 🏂🏼 because of all the inferior reviews from friends and online forums. However, upon spending the day here, I actually enjoyed it more than the Big Bear Resort. The drive to this location was so much easier: no winding roads! We live in West LA and were able to get there in less than 2 hours (so you could easily make a day trip here and go back home on the same day!). There was plenty of parking and if the main resort's parking was full, there's a parking lot 1 mile away and you could take the shuttle to the resort! Additionally, I have read somewhere that the snow 🌨️ tends to be thin here and that it's very icy 🧊. Admittedly, when we were there, the snow wasn't thick, but it was definitely not icy!
In terms of difficulty, I thought the beginner friendly tracks were enjoyable. The more advanced tracks were also clearly labeled as "not for beginners". As for the lift tickets and equipment rentals, I suggest you do that online and then make sure to keep your tickets for future visits ($10 discount per person if you keep the used tickets; they are rechargeable).
Overall, I definitely recommend Mountain High Resort if you don't want to deal with long drives and don't mind the thin snow (you'll still be able to enjoy skiing or snowboarding here regardless!).

Yeti snow village is so much fun with its tubing, sledding, snow play area and ski lift with a nice cabin up top for some warm drinks. They don’t have hot water you have to get hot tea or hot cocoa. The line is long for tubing. You can’t bring your own equipment. Each section is first come first serve. They have paid parking lot $20, and the all day ticket is $79, they have a store for snow gear and a cafe with food and drinks.

We stopped by on the way to Vegas. It’s a good 2.5 hour drive from San Diego and was a good break. It’s along Route 66 nothing but plots of dirt land.
Depends on where you look, the hours listed may be different and I read that visitors come and the gates are locked. But I saw somewhere that they open at 7am and I emailed to confirm but never got a response. We took a chance and got there 8:45am. Surprisingly they were open with a sign that says “Welcome come on in”. It’s a wire gate with a latch that you let yourself in. We spent a total of 15 minutes.
It’s just a bunch of glass jars, antiques and iron works. Saw an old rusted cash register, sewing machine, hood caps, random various items large and small, high and low. Very photo worthy from all angles.

An incredible and iconic place on Route 66!
You gotta make sure to plan a visit here because everything is absolutely crazy (in a good way).
The place features a huge collection of bottles lined up in vertical poles and decorated with bizarre items, which thanks to the sun give very nice colors and shadows.
There is a big parking space in front and the entrance is free, although a small offer is appreciated for the care that everyday is put in this place.

Recommended plate to stop for 5 to 10 minutes, since it's not a huge place. Sculptures made out of bottles and other recycled items. Made by creative mind(s). Good photo op. Please bring some cash to leave a donation (donation box at the back, towards the house)

We visited Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch in May, 2023. I gave a five star rating not because it was the best place ever. No, it was because of the uniqueness of the place. When we stopped, it didn't see like anyone was around. But they had a sign to open the gate and visit.
We didn't stay all that long since we were really pressed for time since we stretched ourselves thin that day. We walked around and took pictures. I was amazed with the artistry in thinking to create such a place.
We stayed for a few minutes and enjoyed this magical little place. Then we close the gate behind us and were gone almost as fast as we arrived. All I can say is that if you are driving by, and maybe doing Route 66. You really should take the time to visit Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch. It's unique and interesting. I gave it five stars because of that.

Such a cool place! I know Elmer has passed but I am so happy to see they are keeping his vision alive. When we were there, there were a lot of people walking around looking at his awesome designs! This is a must stop on Route 66 to see the place and his designs. You could spend some real time here looking at the different trees and what each one has. So Cool!!

Beautiful open air museum made of about 200 large metal pipes holding colorful glass bottles in the shape of trees. It was the work of Elmer Long (passed away in 2019) who collected all the bottles in the desert with his father. The entrance is free but you can leave a donation (there was nobody at the time of my visit).

Absolutely fantastic! Found this place through a Google search of what to do near Adelanto california. It steered us here, and we didn't know what to expect. Driving up, it was clear why this place is so interesting. Had a nice chat with Brian who is the current caretaker of the place. It's obvious that he cares about the story of Elmer.. we spent a long time walking around again and again. You see something new each time you walk around! We left our own wine bottle with Brian, hoping it ends up on a new tree. Definitely going back here-- it's an easy drive from Vegas and well worth the time!!

Definately not what I expected. There is no shop, no employees, no one to greet you. You park, enter a gate and look around. All I needed was to use the restroom but they lock them all at 7pm. Talk about human suffering.. Also we Loved how they had Multiple Vending Machines and Water Sprinklers for the walk around to the stores, they had nice AC units in all the stores so that was nice too🤗🧊... We went to the Food Court buuuuut I wish it was as nice as the other Stores🤔... its Outdated 🏚🙁🙁 and not too good of food it's like old school bowling alley food only way to describe it lol 🥣 but the Employees were nice and Professional so they deserve to serve Amazing food especially for the prices of all the other stores, the food court should be updated 🙌💯 Other than that no complaints it was a nice trip and nice views but bring extra money it's pricey but they also have clearance racks, they are just as good👌😎 Highly Recommend but bring your own snacks if your craving healthy until they update the food of course 🤞🤞😁🛍🙌

I thought I was in Korea. 90 percent of people there was Koreans. Then I saw the 2 buses full of them. I did not find anything because it too crowded and they hang around in the middle of walk way and dont want to move if you say excuse me.
They just play deaf and ignore you. I guess they own the outlet. Coach is my favorite and seem to have a good discount. I like sketcher. Nike and michael kors. But Id rather shop at Outlet at Tejon which close to my place.

Route 66 Barstow, California
One place we wanted to revisit was Route 66 Mother Road Museum Barstow, CA. We had a great time on our previous visit. On this visit, we once again met Deb Hodkin and Tina. Deb is really great, and so is Tina. It's not hard to have a conversation with both of them. In fact all the staff are wonderful and knowledgeable.
The museum was busy when we arrived and there were numerous foreign tourists.
The Museum is located in a beautiful building called The Casa Del Desierto, which was once a Harvey House and train station. The museum has a great amount of historical displays and exhibits in several rooms. At the museum you can find a room where you watch a video. It was fascinating looking through the older photos and reading about the history of the area. The museum also has great Route 66 items in their gift shop, and yes, we did purchase some souvenirs.
This museum is a must stop for all the visitors to the area. It's a great stop to learn about the history of Route 66 Barstow and other areas.

Interesting visit to this museum. We had bonuses about this place but got a tip from a former employee who now works at a pizza place. Nice display about the history of the mining operation and the current work being done here. A new platform outside gives a great view of the whole open pit and surrounding industry. There was a guide there who could tell interesting things about the place and the shop was a nice surprise with loads of fun things to buy (50% geology related of course). Takes about 1-2 hours to visit but definitely worth it if you happen to pass by.

I had the best time learning more about boron, 20 Mule Team, and this incredible mining operation. The visitor's center is put together very well, the gift shop is great, and most importantly the staff were so courteous and informative. You get a spectacular view of California's biggest open pit mine, and can watch the gargantuan machinery at work. Really cool!

Free admission to this well curated visitors center. Short video as well as a gift shop and information about the development of the mine and its current operations.

Small visitor center but packed with information. 15 minute video on the company and site. They have views of the pit which is huge. It’s a nice place to stop and stretch and learn something new.

A highlight location whenever visiting Boron, CA. This mine is the largest open-pit mine in California and the 2nd largest Borax mine in the world providing 1/3 of the world's supply of Borax. Several fun photo opportunities available (Pit Mine Overlook, Giant Truck, Giant Tire, Life-sized Original 20-Mule Team Wagon, etc) and several piles of rocks in the parking lot where you can even gather your own borates. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable with both Marlon and Elsie making our experience memorable in their own ways. Couple this visit with Boron's 20-Mule Team Museum for a more thorough understanding of the history of the local area.

Trona Pinnacles is a remarkable site located in the California Desert National Conservation Area, featuring over 500 towering tufa spires. The otherworldly landscape consists of odd pinnacles of calcium carbonate rising from an alkaline lake, creating a haunting and unique setting. While there are no facilities at the site, it offers a cool spot for desert camping and exploration.
Awesome weekend getaway. Who would know this place existed. Great place to explore and camp. Perfect spot to stargazing. Another spot adds to our Fav 😍 place to camp. Just make sure [leave it better than when you found it]. LEAVE NOT TRACE BEHIND. So the next generation will still enjoy this natures wonder.

Very cool spot off the highway. Worth a drive to check it out - it’s 5miles from the highway on a dirt road. 2 wheel drive vehicles are fine to get you there, however the path around the pinnacles gets confusing and you could easily end up on some more difficult roads. I recommend parking and taking the walking trail if you’re in a 2 wheel drive vehicle. Impressively, the pinnacles are leftover from a time this area was underwater. We saw people camping off in the distance, and lots of 4x4 and dirt bikes.

The Trona Pinnacles are a very unique site to see if you're into desert camping. I visited in April 2021 and loved camping alone and exploring the Mars landscape. There is only one pit toilet and it's not very clean. Bring your own toilet paper. There is also no water anywhere, so bring that too. It can get cold at night and is windy pretty much every time I've gone out there, but it's nice to get away from everything. Camp anywhere, just not on the road (yes, I've seen people do this).

This place is highly memorable. Strange creations of rock. I wish it was at least a little more "touristy" i.e. there is nothing here. Just the attraction, i think there is 1 bathroom as well.

Simply amazing, other than the meat heads acting like chimpanzees. Stars and landscape are awesome. Sulfur smell is present and coyotes like to visit camp at night, so take care to clean up and LNT. Great launch point to DV and the rest of the Mojave

Beautiful and otherworldly. At night it got really windy and we unfortunately couldn’t stay as the winds were too strong. We plan to return 🙂

Awesome desert area with tall spires, very scenic, dirt road and getting there can be confusing, don’t rely on Google maps - make sure you know where you’re going, good thing is there is still cell reception there. Have thick tires.

Visiting Trona Pinnacles offers a unique and mesmerizing experience, transporting you to an otherworldly landscape that seems straight out of a science fiction movie.
Begin your exploration of Trona Pinnacles by embarking on one of the designated hiking trails or driving routes. These routes will take you through the labyrinth of towering spires and ancient rock formations that characterize the landscape. Take your time to absorb the surreal beauty and snap some breathtaking photos.
Take advantage of the interpretive signage scattered throughout the area to learn about the geological processes that formed the pinnacles over thousands of years. Gain insight into the unique combination of tufa, or calcium carbonate, formations that make Trona Pinnacles so remarkable.
Finally, explore the area, focusing on capturing the ethereal beauty of the pinnacles through your lens. Experiment with different angles, perspectives, and lighting conditions to truly capture the essence of this otherworldly landscape.
Bon Voyage my friends.

This is a cool spot to check on your way to dead valley. This is how I planned my trip. Traveled here one day camped and headed over to the national park the day after. There are no facilities here and it can get windy at night. The bad part about this is the people not really the place. People playing music until late at night I am talking 1 am and others with super bright lights that covered the entire area. How do you enjoy nature like that? On the positive it is a cool place to explore and camp. There are wild donkeys in the area. The stars look amazing at night and the place is big enough that you can find a quiet spot away from the rude campers. The place is also patrolled by the rangers so it gives you a sense of security as well. As far as what car can make it here. Any car can make it to the entrance depending on the weather of course. But the back roads should not be taken unless you have a 4x4 or high clearance. If you have a camper can stay to the entrance area.

A bit of a rough road for an old truck and camper but worth the drive. Camped there a good few days. Spots were spaced well. Fun area to explore.

Rough road to get all the way back there but worth the effort. Large campsites. Truck and trailer fit no problem.

I have been here many times. Although there is some light pollution at night, it is very suitable for shooting stars.

Another bucket list dispersed camping spot. It feels desolate and very remote, and awe inspiring. It has tons of camping spots all around the pinnacles and tends to get pretty busy. It may be hard to find a well sheltered, private and level spot. It also tends to get very windy. Blow your tent away windy. Fires are allowed.
During the Pleistocene, massive runoff spilled from the Sierra Nevada into a chain of inland seas. The system of interconnected lakes stretched from Mono Lake to Death Valley and included Searles Lake.
Deep beneath Searles Lake, calcium-rich groundwater and alkaline lake water combined to grow tufa formations. Similar (modern) formations can be found today at Mono Lake to the north.
Known as tufa pinnacles, these strange shapes formed underwater 10,000 to 100,000 years ago. The pinnacles did not all form at the same time. They are divided by age and elevation into three groups. The groups are dubbed the northern, middle, and southern groups because they formed during the three ice ages.

A definite must see if you enjoy desert scenery, national parks, hiking or just want to go somewhere new. They have a visitor center with a gift shop, day use and even camping. There are trails you can hike as well near by which take you back into some beautiful rocks formations. It reminds me of a miniature grand canyon. Plus there are plenty of crevices in the rock formations you can go in and explore.

Rocks were definitely red! In all seriousness though, this place was quiet, and definitely worth the drive. It was pretty hot so we didn't hike far, but the landscape and rocks are totally awesome to see as someone who's never been to any kind of desert before! I will note, the visitors centre was closed even though the hours on the door were listed as it being open, but they had maps you could take for free so we were able to find our way around fine. Also, they had nice off-roading trails as well. Nice place!

It was more than a 2hrs drive for me to get to but I went on Christmas day and there were very little traffic. I went hiking with my dog and it was a pleasant day to do so. I was only hiking at the entrance area because dogs are not allowed on trails. Didn't drive further into where the camp ground was. I got there late in the afternoon so the sun was about to set. It's worth stopping by.

Can you believe it? All of what we see now used to be under water, the entire area was at the bottom of a massive lake millions of years ago! We passed through Red Rock Canyon on our way to Mammoth lake. Not gonna lie, I wanted to come when we were on our way back from Death Valley a couple of months ago, but we didn't have enough time to stop by. So, I feel like I had to plan for a visit this time, and luckily, it turned out amazing. The camel rock reminds me of Cappadocia in Turkey, and the Turk's turban rock looks even more beautiful in person. We didn't have time to check out window rock this time, but I feel like Red Rock Canyon would be a great destination for RV camping and stargazing. How lucky we have such an amazing place in Cali, and it's only less than 3 hours away from LA!

Amazing geology, beautiful painted desert! You can drive and park right next to the rock formations, so family members who can't really hike will enjoy this spot. It's part of my favorite day-trip loop with family and friends. I take some folks in my Jeep, driving from Tehachapi - Bakersfield - Kern River Canyon - Lake Isabella - Red Rock Park - and end at the Windmills by California City. If you time it right, you can get the color of Red Rock just as the sun sets, then the windmills just after sunset. These photos of Red Rock are just before sunset, and a wildfire haze made a surreal pinkish hue in the sky.

If you choose right side, you will face to long slope after walking 4 miles. It’s not that hard but hard. If you don’t like it, turn left. It’s great trail. You may feel walking on the other planet. Absolutely gorgeous views, I was in love with this place! A very nice drive, with numerous areas to stop. It can get a little "touristy" in certain areas, but we were able to walk further in and find private areas to relax. Fair warning though - I can't tell you how many people (including ourselves) were under dressed and freezing. 🤣 I think we all assumed being so close to Vegas/the dessert that it would be hot. It can get very hot, but definitely check the weather before you go!

Lovely little museum with lots to discover. Was incredibly intrigued at the small door in the corner next to the taxidermy puma. Perfect fit, if not in need of a spot of WD-40. Greatly enjoyed the contents within.
Jonah was very helpful and informative, even providing several entertaining stories of his great-aunt's exploits during the Cod Wars. I had no idea the intense role taxidermy played in winning.
Five out of five tiny, rent-free, oh-so-easy to slip into the warm walls from, doors.

Very small place but had some nice artifacts of the town and its history.
Photography room was played out a bit oddly alongside the small corridor with more information.
The animals and display of minerals was nice with an area for kids to interact and play.
The gallery room was full of art that was interesting.
I wish the gift shop sold key rings of the metal men outside.
With a height of 80 feet, Darwin Falls is the highest waterfall in Death Valley National Park. It is accessible via a hike and its lush canyon vegetation is said to add to the adventurous feel of the hike.
Darwin Falls in Death Valley National Park is an incredible place to visit. I went in November of 2022 after the heavy rain storms and it was fantastic. Seeing an oasis with a rushing waterfall and creek in a dry desert was amazing. The hike was maybe a mile or so long from the parking area and was a little wet and muddy due to the recent heavy rains but well worth it. Highly recommend if visiting Death Valley.
Brendan Kiely — Google review
Nice short hike. The main problem is the ~2 miles of terrible road to the trailhead. The trail itself is easy but muddy and requires jumping over shallow streams, hence it might be infeasible for people with disabilities. The falls are not as beautiful as death valley's main attractions, so you should stop here only if you are staying in the area for multiple days.

Fantastic trail, wonderful scenery at the end. We had it all to ourselves, too!

Must drive through gravel and bumpy road. Any car is fine for the road but must drive slowly to get to the trailhead. On the trail, have to cross over small streams. The trail becomes muddy in the winter and some rocks can be slick and slippery. My left foot has slipped and landed in the stream.
Then have to climb over some rocks to see the waterfall. Don’t expect to see some grand waterfall like Nevada/vernal falls. This is not a big waterfall and I would not have expected it in a place like Death Valley so it is impressive in a way.

Darwin Falls is a 18-foot spring-fed waterfall in the western part of Death Valley National Park near Panamint Springs. The access road from CA-190 is a rough gravel road and best with high clearance. From the small trailhead, the trail leads up Darwin Wash. Initially, the hike is through desert and doesn't seem like there should be a waterfall. About a half-mile into the hike, there will be a little bit of water and start to see more vegetation. Soon, there are willow trees and a flowing stream. The trail ends at the scenic little waterfall that flows year round. The spray from the falls allows ferns and other greenery to grow all around the falls and makes a beautiful oasis. We really enjoyed this hike and it was very unique to hike to a lush oasis in Death Valley.
Justin P — Google review
I drove 3.5 hours to check out Darwin Falls. When I got to the turn off the road was completely gone. I assume from the rains earlier in the year. It would have been nice if there were some signs along thus highway saying thus area is closed. Don't go there! You will not be able to access the road.
Chris Helvie — Google review
Unexpected, year round waterfall in Death Valley. Easy, level hike, about 1.5 miles with quite a lot of shade. However, there has been a rockfall close to the waterfall blocking the path. The waterfall is only accessible via a serious scramble over the rocks and is not possible for folks with limited mobility.

Hidden gem in the middle of the desert. Such a surreal and stunning place! Takes quite a while to get there (the 2mi road took us >30 min due to its condition) but it's so much worth it! Since this is an important ecosystem for the animals around, please treat it with respect and care!

The falls at the end of the trail are awesome. However, for the adventurous a bit of rock climbing will take you to the upper falls which are spectacular.

This is a great place to visit here along highway 395 in Lone Pine. It shows a lot of the history of the area and lots of filmmaking memorabilia: from movie props to posters. It is unbelievable how many films were filmed in the immediate area, and the museum has it all documented and on exhibit.
The price is just $5 a person so for entertainment value it is hard to beat in this area.
The Alabama Hills, situated on Whitney Portal Rd/Movie Flat Rd, are a well-known destination for camping and hiking. The area's impressive peaks and rock formations provide a majestic backdrop that contrasts with the jagged, snow-capped Sierras in the background. These striking orange rocks have been featured in numerous western movies as well as modern films like Iron Man (Jon Favreau, 2008) and Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained (2012).
Recently visited Alabama hills and loved the place. It's so beautiful. Desertscapes on one side and the standing high snowy Sierra mountains on the other. We camped in the Portuguese Joe campground and the views of Mt.Whitney were visible. Sunrise is awesome. The movie road is just amazing.

I went here about a year ago in my RV for a couple nights and never posted a review but it really is nice. The rock formations are so much larger in person. It's cool to walk on and thru them. The mountains in the distance is the icing on the cake. This is one thing I love about California...you get so many different landscapes in such a short distance. Beach, mountains, huge trees, desert...everything is a couple hours away.
Oh the cell reception here was really spotty for AT&T so I recommend paying attention to your phone if you plan on staying overnight. It would jump from 5G to nothing by just going a short distance uphill, downhill or around corners.

My son and I went out here mid may. Weather was mid 70s during the day and mid 40s at night. We arrived around 4pm and saw a few hiking areas right away.
We decided to look for camp which was great because most spots you can spend the night in were unfortunately already taken. I would definitely recommend coming early to get a spot locked in early if you plan on spending the night.
I'm not sure if rangers really check spots but older camping areas have been changed to day use only in a lot of areas. There are still plenty of spots, but again get there earlier (before noon).
Overall it was a great trip. My 6 year old son really loved just camping, climbing on rocks, being out in nature, and it was cool waking up to snow capped mountains.
At night, the stars are crazy! Never seen so many. Loved it!

A bucket list camping spot. One of the most beautiful places you can go camping in your car. Everything is extremelt well organized, and while crowded and always busy, still feels private and very special.
The number of camp spots is very limited and is strictly enforced. To camp there you first need to register online for free. There are only a handful of spots with the views of the Sierras, so make sure plan on advance and arrive early as it's first come first serve. Better come during the week. Great hiking trails and overallis just otherworldly. No wonder they filmed so many movies here.

Mineral King Valley, also known as "The Pearl of the High Sierra," offers a remote and pristine natural setting that has remained largely unchanged for decades. Accessible via Mineral King Road in Three Rivers, this valley is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts seeking solitude and breathtaking scenery. The journey to Mineral King Valley involves navigating steep and narrow roads with an elevation gain of approximately 7500 feet, but the stunning views along the way make it a worthwhile experience.
"The Pearl of the High Sierra"... I've been coming here for 65 years and it's still the same (except for the new Ranger Station built in the 70's). Remote, just the basics, and not a lot of people... The road in is steep and narrow in spots and climbs about 7500 feet in elevation, but take it slow and enjoy the view.

This is a hidden gym. Definitely worth stopping and taking a look at. From the park ranger that greeted us as we entered. To the self-guided tour. This was a phenomenal experience. I highly recommend for anyone to stop stretch your legs and take a look around. The entry-fee. Is FREE.

This was very educational and interesting. A very sad time in history but it should be remembered and taught more! Definitely try to stay a few hours to read through the stories and exhibit. There’s a lot to read but very interesting! This is not that far back in the past. A must stop if you are in the area.

Great location to stop. It’s free. So much history in the museum. There’s a list of names of who was there. There are setups so that we can get a feel for how they lived. There’s a kids section where they have answered questions. Many audio files of people sharing their story. You can walk to a few buildings that are mocked up to show the inside of community hall, the school, someone’s apartment, the cafeteria, basketball court, of a few of the parks created by the people interned there.

Please visit! I promise anyone traveling along the 395 who who takes a few minutes to pay respect to the 10,000 Japanese AMERICANS who were forced to live there for 3 years, won't regret it. The visitor center was air conditioned and very informative. Free to visit, but you may want to make some type of donation to keep the site up and running.

This is my 4th time here. This is must see and must be remembered. This should be a required field trip for all Americans. NPS has done an excellent job of telling the story of this internment camp for Japanese Americans during WWII

The Manzanar historical site is a definite must stop and go in and see. The museum is beautiful on the inside and there is a wealth of information for you to see and hear. They even have little booklets for kids to fill out (it varies for kids ages on the activities in the book) to become junior rangers as it's a fun way for the kids to learn about what happened as well. They have a lovely small giftshop and clean bathrooms. They also have an auto tour you can drive with designated pull off points so you can get out and walk to see different areas (the hardest, kids village, etc) as well they have a path for you to walk it. Any vehicle can do the auto tour but if you want to drive back to the Manzanar reservoirs you will want a vehicle that can handle dirt roads with rocks/light offroading( I would not suggest cars or lowered vehicles) for that part. There is so much to see and learn about what happened here, it is an eye opener. No cost to get in but you can donate and it is definitely worth donating.

Whoa. Wow. Manzanar National Historic Site did a brilliant job of covering this depressing yet important part of American History. The visitor center museum is enlightening and set up very well. It is very interactive and informative. There is a driving tour and replicas of living quarters, a school building, and a mess hall. It is rather incredible with the whole place being under the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. The video is well worth watching - it shows how the Japanese American people managed to beautiful the area and keep their spirits alive. - H 🌍

Very good maintenance and has a lot of information to learn about the history. The staff here are so nice and patient to tell you the pass. Think it is amazing to keep this historical site in such a good shape in the middle of the desolate and lonely desert.

Sad and moving to be in the actual barracks, mess hall, and classroom, to pay respects at the cemetery, to feel the shame of bigotry that persists. The historical context available in the original community building is balanced and deep and essential. The ranger and volunteer there during our visit were welcoming and informative.

We visited on a very windy day in summer. You could hear the voices of everyone who was forced to live there in the wind. The museum is well-organized and comprehensive. Clean bathrooms. Well worth stopping here.

I've heard and seen of Manzanar on documentaries for years and have been wanting to come and see for myself. Well we finally made it and to me it was well worth the time to stop and visit even in 107 degrees. The historical value of showing how fear and racism could envelop a country, because of the color of their skin or shape of their eyes was a tragedy. Being there, reading their stories, seeing their pictures, looking at all the names of the individuals that were interned there was sad. I actually got choked up to know that our own government did this to this to their own citizens. They had to get rid of all their possessions and take only what they could carry on their backs... sad. Being able to tour and walk a little(because of the heat) of the camp doesn't do justice because there isn't much standing except replicas of a few buildings. But after seeing documentaries, visiting the visitor center, reading and listening to their stories gives you an idea what it felt like to be there. We walked a little, sat at some benches and just imagined what they must've gone thru, truth is we couldn't, it had an eerie sound when the breeze blew. We want to go back when it's cooler and walk the compound, yes it looks huge but that's with no buildings so you could only imagine what it looked like with the many buildings and over 10,000 people. If you haven't been there I suggest you do go, it really does give you a perspective of what fear does to people, especially in today's environment.

There is a lot of history here. Sad to read some of the facts and see how we treated Japanese people. It was a really well kept museum though. My family and I briefly stopped here on the way home on a road trip so I didn't see everything but it blew my mind to imagine 10,000 people in the little barracks. Worth the stop even for just a bit
Zumwalt Meadows is a serene and picturesque mountain meadow situated within the boundaries of Kings Canyon. This area is famous for its lush greenery and popular loop trail, surrounded by the grandeur of Kings Canyon. Although there was a portion of this two-mile loop that was reportedly closed, visitors can still enjoy an easy walk along the riverbank, with low elevation and flat terrain making it accessible to all.
This was a beautiful, diverse trail that starts in the parking lot, walking across the bridge, trees, rocks, and then the view of the meadows. We went two days after Labor Day and it wasn’t busy. There was an unexpected thunderstorm when we got to the meadows and decided to cut our hike short.
Catherine Hunt — Google review
At the end of the scenic byway at Kings Canyon National Park, you'll find this meadow.
I was surprised at the lack of hiking at this national park, so we definitely wanted to stop here and walk around for a bit.
There was supposed to be a two mile loop, but it the sign said part of it was closed. We didn't see it closed, but we did get to a point where we weren't sure where to go anymore, so that's where we turned back.
The trail is along a river which is pretty. You're at a low elevation and the trail is flat and easy. The surroundings are pretty though and there's some nice mountain views.
If you're passing by, I think this is a good place to get out and explore for a bit.
Jacqueline Telljohann — Google review
You have to check out Zumwalt Meadows! There is a super cool boardwalk that goes through the marsh. It's an easy walk and not too many people on it.
Steve Maggio — Google review
The loop is closed at the meadows. But you can still do the quick 0.3 mile hike from the parking lot, over the bridge, and to the meadows then turning back around.
Dogs are not allowed on this trail. There are lots of people and rangers in the area.

Rafe O — Google review
Stunning scenery and a bear sighting if lucky. Took a dip in the river to cool off from the mid-July heat. The loop is still closed, but you can still access the end of the meadow via out-n-back.

The most peaceful place on earth. We spent some time on the wooden bridge and enjoying the river. You'll pass both along the short path to the meadow.

I'll never travel to Mammoth Lakes without this trip planner again
Kings Canyon National Park boasts a diverse landscape that is perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking. The park features enormous trees that are especially breathtaking in the winter season, but it is important to bring high-quality snow chains during this time. While some areas of the park may be closed due to fire and weather conditions, visitors can still enjoy Grant's Grove and take in the scenic drive.
Gorgeous park to visit. Worth the extra driving time. Don't be deceived, even though it is right next to Sequoia National Park there is extra driving especially in the winter time, when some roads are closed. You can see Sequoias here and even can walk through a hollow tree. Less crowds than Sequoia NP. Bathrooms available throughout and a nice gift shop open on holiday weekends and in the summer. Totally worth going if you get the time.

One of the best place I visited on the planet. Really it's a must visit place in USA. The views are special, attractive, breath taking, gorgeous, amazing... Will be a trip of life time. The volume, quality, beauty of the nature is wordless here. The roads are safe, lots of stop or turn out options on the road. So can easily clock photos on this route. There are lots of camping ground options too.
Niyaz Zubair — Google review
Not as crowded as other nearby parks. Still some limited road access due to the winter washout damage. Well maintained and easy to get around. Many beautiful trails and beautiful views. The proximity to multiple parks makes the America The Beautiful passes well worth it.

We like Kings Canyon is beautiful and easy access. There are many areas closed due to winter storm. We like the Hume lake; there are many activities over there but, it’s a little bit difficult finding a parking space near the Sandy Cove so we park near the camp ground area by the lake.

My wife and I decided to visit a handful of national parks in January and February this year. We were expecting to run into snow and we did in Kings Canyon national Park. Other than not being able to access some high elevations due to road closures and the need for snow chains, we did see some pretty cool stuff and had a great time. Photos of general grants tree don’t do it any justice at all. Great place to visit even in the winter but again bring snow chains if you can.
Mark Austin — Google review
Absolutely stunning. Especially with the snow in the winter. Definitely bring GOOD snow chains if you go around this time of year but it's a whole different experience than the spring or summer. Parts of the park are still closed because of the fire and weather but you can still see Grant's Grove which is enough on its own along with the scenic drive. The Sequoias are amazing to look at and getting to walk through them is a really impressive experience.

Great National Park! This is the only way to see the giant Sequoia trees since the road is blocked on the south entrance. The trees are spectacular, there’s even a shuttle system to see General Sherman. Do not miss this park!

This is a great place to visit, the place is really clean and everyone seems really nice. There is a few restrictions about having your pet. Some trails you cannot take your dog on. And I highly recommend doing some research about getting a campsite, because they have no phone service at all, and no internet. What they do have it's extremely slow. So definitely plan ahead before going here.

My visit to Kings Canyon National Park in the fall of 2021 left an indelible impression of natural grandeur. The towering giants of the forest, adorned in hues of redwood and fall foliage, created a mesmerizing spectacle. The sheer scale of the trees, including the iconic sequoias, instilled a sense of awe and reverence for the beauty of the natural world. The fall colors added a vibrant touch to the landscape, enhancing the already breathtaking scenery. The tranquility of the park, coupled with the majestic presence of these ancient trees, made for a truly immersive and unforgettable experience, highlighting the unique allure of Kings Canyon National Park during the autumn season.

Really beautiful and a great camping experience.
We stayed at the Sunset Campground, close to the Visitor Center. The restaurant at the visitor center is a great option to see around the park and quickly grab food.
Check out the Hume lake area, General Grant Tree, Gremlin cabin, Michigan Tree and the Panoramic Point during sunset for great views of the park.
Sequoia NP is a short drive from Kings Canyon NP and is a great option to check out the next day on a camping trip 🏕️

If I could give it ten stars I would. This is a must see park. The Giant Sequoias are incredible. The General Grant tree is the main attraction, but so many others are equally as stunning. Walking through the canyon feels magical with the light filtering through enormous trees that are 1,500 plus years old.

We went on Nov 29, 2023 from Los Angeles, about 4 hour drive with on/off traffic. We took our dog, although the NPS website has a few dog friendly trails, it's hard to locate them. However we were told it's okay to walk our dog on the paved area and camping area which our dog really enjoyed. It's not our first time here, and we e joy coming to sequoia and kings canyon. A lot of things and places are closed during this season due to low traffic and the weather, but the nature is definitely beautiful and this place is a gem. I recommend this place to anyone that hasn't been here, and it's worth buying the annual pass/national park pass. Restrooms were extremely clean, friendly park rangers, nice fall colors and plenty of water of stream. Don't forget to fuel up before coming up, and always good to bring extra snacks/food, not many options up there. It's even good to bring a sandwich or two from subway/mcdonalds near by, and always carry extra water.

Lovely park - even though the actual Kings Canyon was closed due to a road closure (October, 2023). Panoramic Point was especially lovely at sunset. Grant Tree was a nice easy walk but the adjacent trails were just as lovely and with no crowds.

Lovely national park. I can certainly place this in the top 10 national parks (maybe not in top 5). The sequoia trees are a thing of beauty and awe here. I was lucky to see some deer crossing by the road. The Grant tree is definitely the highlight. That will certainly get anyone mesmerized.

I love our nation's national parks. Every American should have the right to see and visit this country's national parks as taxpayers. Happy to see my taxes go to supporting this type of endeavor, instead of sending money to other countries to spend on their arsenals.
King's Canyon is close to Fresno, I thought it was easily accessible. Unfortunately the road into the canyon itself was closed, though some of it is viewable from the Sequoia side of the park. I visited the Sequoia containing parts of the King's though and thought the General Grant tree was cool. Hiked around the area for about 4 hours.
Unfortunately this part of the Sierras collects a lot of pollution from elsewhere in Commiefornia but I still enjoyed it.
The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center is a natural preserve that offers seasonal tours to view some of the world's oldest living trees, which are located over 10,000ft above sea level on the arid White Mountains. The forest has trails and picnic areas for visitors to enjoy and explore, but no access to water. The highlight of the visit is viewing Methuselah - an ancient tree that is around 4700 years old.
This hiking and visitor center is about an hour off of 395 but well worth the drive. What a beautiful place to relax, eat something and take one of the many hiking trails.

Our favorite park on the 395 South. The stars are bright, the air is clear and fresh, the ancients are enthralling. Be sure to camp, spend at least three nights and wander the trails. On foot is the best, but also a cycling paradise. Nearby is Lonepine, Independence and Bishop. Good for resupply and each with its own charm. But up in the mountains, is where you'll find real sustenance for body and soul!

Great family adventure! The Methuselah trail is a great 4 mi hike through the 5,000 year old trees. Great views of the eastern Sierras on the way up and a great view toward Death Valley while on the trail. It’s at 10,000 feet, so take your time. They have toilets open year around. Bring food/snacks with you. Enjoy Bishop and other fun hikes while you’re in the area.

Fast climbing windy road, starts at about 4000ft. up to 10050ft. at the Shulman Grove and Visitors Center. The trees are awesome. They are definitely unique and striking in appearance. There are a few different hikes depending on ability and time. We took the Discovery Loop, it is right about 1 mile and took about an hour with stopping for photos and to read the many plaques along the trail. It is dog friendly so we were able to bring out little guy, he enjoyed the trail and found plenty of new smells. The Visitors Center has a lot of information about the trees, geology of the region, and Edward Shulman who discovered the ages of the oldest trees. There is a nice little gift store with some cool unique souvenirs. A little off the beaten path but well worth the effort.

Beautiful ancient forest of these twisted and gnarly wonders of the world. Have a good strong vehicle as the road to get there is steep, winding, and sharp turns. It's hard going up, and hard coming down on your vehicle, but worth the trip! These trees are thousands of years old! It will blow your mind the way these grow! If you love nature, and a good hike this is the spot!

Access to this park is a long, gravel road but worth the drive. The ancient trees are amazing to see for yourself. The Visitor's center was closed when we went but there is plenty of information around it and along the trails.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable about little facts that weren't even written down. The shop was fantastic with many little treasures of history. Make sure and ask about the bank vault that is in the merchandise shop. The whole town is so neat to see how far they came in less than 100 years. From the railroad Western Union to the beauty parlor complete with a hearse as well. You could probably spend all day here just reading and looking at all the little things that made a town a town. The museum curator also said there was a turntable that was so well balanced four men could move an entire road car 180°. It's amazing to see all of the different hardships that these pioneers overcame and what all the railroad meant to our nation! This is a great museum!

Quite a nice outdoor museum. Lots of exhibits related to early settler life in the Owens valley. The train ride is on a diesel powered rail car. The car was restored by volunteers with some incredible skills. The ride is about 15 min long. Be forewarned about half of that time is spent sitting still while a switch is moved. Our favorite exhibit was the mining and milling. There we got a tour from a gentleman who's name I believe was Jay. He is truly "a man who knows his arse from a hole in the ground"
If you can, take his whole tour from shaft to assay. Jay has aa amazing amount of knowledge regarding mining in the Owens valley. From him we learned about the Tungsten mine up Pine creek behind Mt Tom. Beautiful hikes from the trailhead.

It's hard to describe the utter clarity of this place. The air is clear, the water is ipecably clear, the view of Mount Laurel positioned over the water is clear, so much freshness here one kind of wishes it had a different name. We visited in mid September, almost exactly 151 years since the 30 convicts traveled 139 miles to get to this refreshing spot, after robbing a train of $41,000, stealing guns, and killing an 18 year old Postal worker on his first ride. After a shoot out at the lake most were captured and killed and hence the name. If you take the beautiful trail around the lake you start to realize the only real way out is over the mountains, and that's not a climb for the faint of heart. This truly is an amazing spot. Photographing the water reflecting the mountain, the two are indistinguishable.

The rest of the creek you can walk along and fish. It's a lovely area where fishing can be good at times. This time of year it exhibits some nice wild flowers although not in large quantities.

Agreed with another poster that the direction is incorrect. We thought oh well and started to look for a return path and stumbled upon it. We were so happy because it's our first time seeing a truly natural hot springs. You can smell the sulfur once you are near. It's really amazing! The area closes at sunset time. And when we were leaving (for real this time) we drove across this vast grass plain field and it was sunset, it's breath taken, included that photo here too.

One of my favorite places for apres-ski relaxation. You have to wade across a chilly part to get to the hot pools, but it’s totally worth it. In fact, it even makes better.
