Odawa Casino is a modern destination that provides calm accommodations, as well as a pool and convenient transportation to the casino area. The resort's rooms have a restrained aesthetic to ensure guests can relax in comfort. Additionally, the hotel offers shuttle service at no cost for easy access to the casino grounds.
We stayed overnight in their RV parking area. No hookups, but it was a nice paved area. I believe you can request shuttle service to the casino, but I walked.
It's not a real large casino, but it was nice. There is a smoking room, but you can smell the smoke when you're close to it in the main non-smoking area.
The beer was nice and cold, and not too bad of a price ($3 for a domestic bottle).
They had some table games. I believe they were all either $10 or $25 minimums.
The slots were good to me, so I can't say anything negative about them. But I don't go in there thinking that I'm going to win a lot. After all, it's gambling.
The servers were great. They were friendly and quick. No waiting 20 minutes to get your drink.
I would definitely come back.

Everything was great! The staff at both the hotel and casino were extremely friendly and kind. The casino was clean and sanitized. The breakfast buffet at the hotel is wonderful! One person seemed to be running it all and they did a phenomenal job!! Thank you, Odawa!! We'll be back soon!

My wife Sandy and I spent three days at your beautiful Casino. It was clean and spaced out quite well.
While Sandy played slots, I pretty much played the table games. The dealers that I came in contact with that stood out were Vic, Thomas, Vickie and a Gentleman with a braided pony tail at the Craps table. Each and every one of these staff members were kind, courteous and at times hilarious! These folks are great assets to your Casino!
Thanks to all for providing a great time, we look forward to our next visit soon!

Casino is a mixed bag
THE GOOD
->The casino is very clean and I love how lowkey it is… despite everything the vibe is good
->Decent video poker pay tables
->Sometimes they have $5 3-2 BJ but it’s only one table and it’s usually full so ymmv
->The dealers are super friendly
->The Cherry Pepsi from the soda machines tastes better than Cherry Pepsi from anywhere else
->I’ve heard the hotel is lovely
THE BAD
->They close at 12 on weekdays which I didn’t know when I walked in at 11.
->Hospitality is almost non existent… I wanted to sign up for a players card and couldn’t find anyone to help. I eventually asked at the pay window and they told me the players club was closed for the night and that there was nothing they could do for me… the kicker is the guy said I wasn’t missing much since I was only planning to play video poker and BJ. When I was leaving a guy in a suit “came down from upstairs” and said he could help me… to his credit he was friendly and helpful but it’s clear signing up new players wasn’t normally part of his job.
->The slot machine I played was a bloodbath… since the $5 free play can’t be used on table games and the place was closing in 1/2 an hour I put $40 into a slot and figured I would play on that until close and walk away with whatever I had…. I was betting the minimum and my $45 didn’t last 15 minutes. It wasn’t a slow bleed where you get some nice little wins on the way to losing either, it was like throwing money into a burning pit. But hey the grift worked because they got me to play slots which I almost never do.
->The sportsbook is a self serve kiosk a lot of the time because no one is working the desk. This wouldn’t be a big deal but the kiosk doesn’t dispense cash so if you have a winning ticket you have to re-bet or cash out onto a ticket that is supposed to be redeemed at the desk. If the desk is closed you have to walk over to the pay window where sometimes they can cash it and other times they tell you it can only be redeemed at the book in person. More than once I’ve left with a winning ticket instead of cash because of this, which is frustrating. Also you can’t use your players card with the book so you don’t get credit for betting on sports.
->The comps seem stingy… look i’m grateful for everything but holy cow I’ve been playing VP and BJ here 2-3 nights a week for a few months now and haven’t gotten anything so much as a mailer. Meanwhile I still get food and freeplay offers from other Michigan Casinos that I only go to once or twice a year. I’ve also never been offered drinks here which usually happens at other casinos. I don’t drink so this isn’t a big deal to me but others will want to know.

Went to the room 94 restaurant and we were not impressed.
Lacking several drinks listed on the menu. We asked for two different beers and they brought the same to both without consulting different choices. They did correct the issue after we brought it to their attention, we were just shocked they did it. The food is basic.
They seem to focus on smoked brisket…. They should learn how to cook it as well. It was tough, we had to use a knife to cut it…sad.
I like this casino o won’t give up on them, just marking this visit as a negative experience.

We had a good time for three hours here! My husband took me in a pre-Christmas trip on Nov. 30, 2021. They opened right on time! (We went early in the day.)
we didn’t win much but we didn’t spend much. We had fun trying. ☺️
The staff was incredible. The kind lady at the players club window, helped us get our cards, told us about various attractions,in the casino & out. She answered any, and all of our many questions.
We had drinks at the bar, (the bartender was friendly) & since it was a Tuesday, there wasn’t too many other people. We wore our masks & had fun trying to win back our twenties!
Good Variety of slot machines.
I would have liked to have gone when there was entertainment and also to have tried the in house restaurant.
Every single employee (floor person, bartender, players club personnel) we came into contact with, treated us with respect and answered any questions we might have about machines, or slot play, or dining, or other betting areas; being the novices we were.

We had a great experience. Only a couple things I wish that were different. One the hotel is not right next to the casino (would definitely be more convenient if it was) 2nd there needs to be some updating. Beds are hard and the room just felt average.
Amanda Lomason — Google review
We stayed the night in our R.V. and they had plenty of parking. They have a parking garage or open parking your choice. The casino is very nice and clean. There are lots of great games to choose from.

It's was our first time at this Casino.
We really liked the way the smoking are was cl I see off. We had a super time. We were able to play the slips for over 2 hours, I left with my original $50. Plus. We will go back.

Dinner was not the greatest had garlic bread with beef tips, beef tips were good bread was very hard, the hamburger my husband ordered was saturated with grease served with rotten tomatoes, we were seated with two small tables together instead of a comfortable dinning table, were told they were all taken but not one person occupied any of those empty spots while we had dinner,,, not one person sat at any of those empty tables!!!!! The casino is nice The restaurant needs attention especially the greeter and the waitress. They are there to serve Us, not for us to be made to feel so very uncomfortable. Food options need to be rethought.
Renee Hoeft — Google review
Cleanest casino in Northern Michigan, slots are loose compared to other casinos, this is far better than turtle creek. Meals are quality, affordable and great staff.
Vic Ouellette — Google review
We stayed at the casino hotel. Our heater in the room was noisy and going on and off all night, also blowing cold air. The tub was plugged, stood in water while taking a shower. We have gone to the casino multiple times and don't do anything. Also, because I don't use my card all the time, I wasn't able to receive a birthday slot play. We use my husbands. The slots are getting to expensive to bet max anymore. We're retired, and we don't bet $5, $8, $10. As we've experienced in the past, betting max on a machine, you win more frequently. Sad, your pricing people out of being able to go gamble.
Franklin John — Google review
Not much traffic. Spent 3 days here and seen less than 50 people at anytime. ( I was there a minimum of 4 hours each time.)The slots are super tight, no poker during the week, and the blackjack table doesn't open until 4pm. the payout kiosks are all out of order. I will drive to other casinos before I come back here.
Dan — Google review
I enjoy a casino experience where you can play and have fun. I like to think of it like an adult arcade but Haven't had much fun at this one. It's like the games don't even give you enough to let you keep playing for a little bit.
Ashley and the funny Fam — Google review
The games were fun, but did not win a dime (which I expected). I had never been to the casino before, so for a first timer the atmosphere was pretty good. Free soda and such. Alcoholic Drinks are expensive and so is the food court. Probably won't be going again, but I was fun for a first time experience.
Tegan Fletcher — Google review
It was easy to get here, but ticket area to cash our tickets were hard to find. Had to ask guard to get help with machines. Workers were hard to find for help.
Lynn Thompson — Google review
I understand there are lucky days and not so lucky days, but even when I hit bonuses they paid next to nothing. It's now clear to me why the place was empty on a Saturday night and why they aren't open 24 hours.
Mark Tomesek — Google review
I was part of a batcholor party that played here. It was a busy Saturday night but we had a good time and managed to find a few seats at the tables. I did alright with slots while by friends did well at blackjack.

My mother and I decided to take a spontaneous trip out to this Casino since we've never been before. Upon our arrival, we loved the overall look of the outside of the Casino. Very inviting and beautiful design. Once we entered the Casino, we noticed the Security post was empty. No employee greeted us upon entering what so ever. We headed over to get our players card since we had a coupon for $5 free play. The woman who was at the window was extremely rude and cold to us. I believe her name was Anita. She acted as if we were an inconvenience to her right away and was short with us the whole time. We both were completely put off by her attitude. Having people at the *welcome desk* that don't even want to be there, sucks the fun out of the experience. At least fake that you enjoy your job. We walked around for a short while and played a couple games and left. Very underwhelming experience overall.
Aleasha Miller — Google review
The five minutes it took us to lose all our money was fun. Machines are tight with absolutely no return. We’re not looking to win a jackpot but it would be nice to sit and play for a while since we bothered to get up and out for the night.

What a fun little casino! Played a little, won a little, got to have a nice romantic dinner with my husband with my winnings! Great little nugget rewards of $5.00 on your players card with X amount of points earned! Super fun!
Tammy B — Google review
Worst hotel experience ever. Gentleman at front desk was quite put out that he had to take time to check us in, had to continually ask for info on shuttle, where elevators were etc. No one else in line waiting to check in at the desk, three people behind the counter so they were not busy. Wrote the hotel, no response. Casino was so so, some older machines not working but no signs showing they were out of order. 40 years of traveling and never received the disrespect this hotel staff provided. Never again.
John Deguise — Google review
Went here, immediately got racially profiled. Always went here the last three years, got accused of smoking, so I took my money and left. Absolutely disgraceful. Imagine being told you have something you DONT and being threatened that it’s a felony. Yeah good luck. I definitely won’t be giving you my money in the future. What a joke

Didn’t stay at the hotel. However, we took two elderly aunts of ours there for some pre-holiday fun in the casino. It was perfect! We were there on Friday before Christmas. The casino was clean and smoke free. The machines all looked as though they were cleaned and sanitized. Our Aunts had a blast, as did we. Btw…. After 2 hours of fun for 6 of us, we headed to Sage for dinner.

We were sent an invite to get luggage boyfriend is elite myself I am premier, hours were 2 -8 for luggage we got there at 4, all gone, if you send invites for luggage, shouldn't you have enough for invited guests? Bummer, heard they were gone in an hour. False advertising I would say.
Large nature park featuring a herd of wild elk, which can be viewed from inside your car.
The animals seem to be well taken care of. We have been visiting for over 10 years now regularly. They have a lot of elk, fallow deer and sometimes we see turkeys. We love this time of year because the elk have babies and their antlers are still in velvet.
PattyJean78 — Google review
Such a neat place to see the elk. Fenced in property. Easy to see the animals. Great place for kids to observe

I absolutely LOVED this place when we finally got to go!
We went and bought lunch and eat in the car well..
The elk also where eating lunch!
This is really a neat place to be able to observe Elk of all sizes in a close up and personal way! Besides being able to pet it's pretty cool!
I think it's very neat that someone has dedicated their time to preserving these beautiful animals!

GREAT PLACE for anyone - especially younger set, little kids to 30's, to see Elk and white deer up close.
Beautiful animals, you want to be there a 'dinner time' for them, hay bales rolled to within 30 feet of fence. They come right up to the fence! Roughly 6:30 - 7:30 pm

It was awesome to see the Elk and Deer . They are beautiful. BEST TIME to Come to see them is around 6pm to 9pm !

We love stopping by Gaylord's City Elk Park to see the elk, and do it EVERY time we're in the area. They're are a lot of them, and yes, they are beautiful! The have a huge fenced in area to roam in so may not always be visible, but it's definitely worth trying, as it's a quick and easy off/on stop from I-75. We've been stopping for years to see these beauties, and only missed them once. Gorgeous and Beautiful! (10-26-2021)
G and T Graham — Google review
I'm so impressed that we were able to walk right up to the Elk and say hi! The kids were amazed with how huge they are! The sign said no feeding them but the kids did pick dandelion leaves and fed them through the fence. One of them was so nice and gently took the leaves!
Heather Ann Laginess — Google review
Really awesome to be able to me see the Elk. We couldn't get them to come see us at the fence as they were tired. But really good to see them.
Joseph Sanchez — Google review
A must-see if you haven't had much exposure to elk before. There is a cart with food to bring them near the fence line so you can get fairly close to the wild herd. There is a nearby business, but the park itself has no amenities.
Suzanne Harris — Google review
So amazing to see! Tucked behind a depot, takes a little searching. In the fall you can hear the males “bugle”, which is honestly the weirdest and coolest nature thing I’ve seen 😂 they don’t like cameras but this lady was following me around so I snapped a couple and she didn’t seem to mind. No feeding them though! I think it makes them a little aggressive. Awesome experience! Free of charge too!
Alex White — Google review
Free, fun park where one can see part of a herd of Elk both up near the fence and far afield in part of the 60 acres they have to roam. Best place to see a variety of Elk up close. 3rd time there, won't be our last.
Family-run museum featuring a variety of North American wildlife, plus a theater & gift shop.
Call Of The Wild was a great experience for my son and I! The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The self guided tour of the museum was really fun, and my son had a blast. The gift shop has plenty of stuff for all ages. They gave my son a free sample of the fudge of his choice, which he loved so much! If you're in the area, and have time, this is a great stop with family that is very well priced! My son and I only paid 7.50 total because he's 3, which is a great price! I highly recommend Call Of The Wild!!

Took kids around ten years of age. They enjoyed the animal search and it took about a half hour. Would take longer if the kids read all the posted information! Gift shop was reasonable.

Very beat place! Great prices, friendly people, and a fun little day for the kiddos. Huge selection of cowboy boots. Lots of neat things in the gift shop as well. I am excited to come back in the summer and play mini golf and do go carts!

The ladies were helpful and pleasant during our visit, showing us everything the store and museum had to offer. The museum was really neat and the displays were very well done. We'll definitely have to bring the kids back to see how big these animals are, especially the scary Grizzly and Polar Bears! 😁
Sarah Niles — Google review
This place is really cool, lots to look at and it was fun. They let us bring the dachshunds in and they also had a great time sniffing the bear. Gift shop was large and also fun to look at all the stuff. It is worth the price of admission.

We always have a great time when we come to visit Michigan and this is a spot that we hit when we come back up every time. The business is family owned, passed down from generations. The main attraction is the different animal displays throughout the building. There's also a scavenger hunt that you can do as you walk through, which adds a little more fun to the displays. There is a gift shop where you can get clothes, boots and items for your house. You can also buy fudge and it's delicious. We always end up with a pound of fudge before we leave. This is a great place to come at any time of year.
specialk9 — Google review
Perfect place to go with kiddos ready to learn! There are many exhibits and they all include information about the animals. There is a gift shop when you first enter the building. We always buy our boots from here, they are real leather and absolutely beautiful. Their fudge is great!! On the side of the building is mini golf as well as go-kart racing! If you are passing through, or even living in Gaylord, this is definitely a nice spot to bring the family. They occasionally have free museum events which is amazing!

Took our 1 1/2 year old granddaughter and she loved seeing all the animals. The gift shop was nice and not over priced. The staff was helpful and friendly. It was a nice experience. We bought the year long family pass because we're excited to bring our other grandkids to see the wild life.
Gregory Reid — Google review
It is good for your first time and for kids. But I think they need to upgrade and have more interaction. The cost doesn't fit the adventure.
Renee C — Google review
I had an amazing time at this museum! Wonderful stories, beautiful artwork, incredibly informational, and very engaging. The animal scenes were fascinating and I learned so much about Michigan and its wildlife. I’m looking forward to going back with friends one day; I went on a solo adventure for my first time and had a blast. It was cheap to get in ($7.50 adult) and I stayed about 2 hours to take my time and enjoy… but you could definitely get through the exhibits in 45min-1hr. Overall great experience and would definitely recommend for all ages.
I visited in February on a Tuesday around 1pm. I was the only one there when I arrived and the staff was lovely! They were all incredibly nice and helpful.
I also wanted to note for parents and individuals in need of assistance that they do offer strollers and wheelchairs for their guests!
For children they have a discovery section with interactive, stimulatory actives, a room with a wildlife film playing (& children’s music), and with most animal exhibits they include buttons that will play sound effects! I can’t remember the children’s prices but I know under 5 was free. For locals and local families you can also purchase a yearly pass for like $15!
The gift shop was awesome too.
I included some photos I took to help with visualization, but if you have the opportunity to go you absolutely should!

We went for the go karts and had a blast. My grandson didn't have quite as much fun because his cart didn't have enough oomph. The lack of speed took the fun out of it for him. The young man there took time to explain everything to my 11 year old granddaughter. She was terrified but ended up loving it. Overall, it was a good experience. For $8 each, it's cheap fun.
Lois Brewer — Google review
It was really neat. They have a nice gift shop as well. Some of the taxidermy is fantastic quality.

Great family place. The staff was so sweet and helpful. I have 4 little girls and this place was truly an adventure for them. They loved the scavenger hunt. But seeing the animals and listening to how they sound was their favorite thing. We will definitely be back. It was well worth the drive in a snow storm.

Nestled just three miles from Boyne Falls, Boyne Mountain Resort is a prime destination for ski enthusiasts. The resort features chateau-style buildings and alpine lodges, offering various accommodations including hotel rooms, villas, condos, and cozy cabins. In addition to winter sports across two mountains, the resort boasts ten golf courses for summer activities. Guests can also enjoy outdoor swimming pools, an indoor water park, a spa, and a fishing lake.
Went during the week! It was a lot cheaper, definitely come and plan to ski Wednesday - Saturday cause otherwise the slopes close at 4:30 PM (Sunday- Tuesday) versus 9:00 PM (Wednesday - Saturday). Obviously there are exceptions depending on the day. But It’s the pretty much the same price so you might as well get some more ski time for your money! Food accommodations are pretty expensive for my taste but there are other local places to eat and I’d recommend getting a room with cooking utilities. The basic room only comes with a fridge and coffee maker so you’re forced to eat out or order in. The facilities are nice, the pools and the hot tubs. Everything is well taken care of. The ski slopes are well taken care of. They do it right here. The only down side is the price but these are the times we are living in and I’m also more frugal than most! I thought it was a great deal for the most part! Will definitely be coming again!

Boyne Mountain Resort is absolutely beautiful! The Sky Bridge was stunning with all of the fall colors! Definitely not a good fit for anyone afraid of heights. The staff was incredibly friendly everywhere we went. You would definitely want to spend a day here otherwise it can be a little pricey if you're just going for a visit to the bridge. Highly recommend overall!

Absolutely give this resort 5 stars. Impressive customer service which started at check in with a friendly welcome and personal tour of the resort taking us to our room. Our whole experience with every member of staff we encountered didn’t disappoint - they were all extemely friendly and respectful. We stayed at the edelweiss building which was just remodeled at the end of 2022 and they did an amazing job. Felt like we were at a 5 star resort and have already decided to re-book next year.

What an excellent experience! Everyone was really nice and helpful, my only gripe is that our room was full of mold around all the corners, around the window, I have a violent mold allergy and figured even if we changed rooms there's a high chance it would have been the same. The worst part is, is that they almost certainly will not treat it properly. Other than that, it was such a great experience and had the best time ever

The water Park wasn't as fun as Great Wolf Lodge, but one of the slides was out of order. Still an awesome park. The staff is very friendly and laid back. As long as you're being respectful, you can bend the rules and really relax. Bonfire pits for marshmallows and even the guest were friendly. Great time.

We went to the Avalanche Bay water park and the family loves it. We have 3 kids from crawling to running and it was a hit. They have a good amount of attractions for the different ages. There is a height restriction of 48" in the 3 tallest slides, but my kids were not disappointed with what they could do. Definitely becoming a favorite family vacation spot!

Visited for a conference. The resort is well-run, picturesque and the staff is very friendly. Everyone from the valet to the staff who were cleaning rooms and and public spaces went out of their way to greet us and ask if we needed anything. We were able to take a few walks on the trails around the property. Enjoyed the entertainment and outdoor fire pit in the evenings. Great stay.
Large, comfortable and very clean rooms. Lots of amenities provided. Had a great nights sleep!

Beautiful place, great rooms, HOWEVER, one star rating because.... made me come back THREE times to check in, room was FINALLY ready, after 5pm!!! Eight hours ago I arrived and stood in line for an hour before they told me to come back because room not ready twice, yet everyone else for the conference had their room. I had to keep going to my car to get my material instead of going to my room since i didn't have a room... like i said for 8 hours being there. They charged my card for room plus 100 before i got the key, 1 grand for 2 nights. Then they DOUBLE charged me when i checked out, so 2 grand taken from my account! (not to mention they insisted on us leaving by 9am so they can get the weekend crowd in). Boyne had no clue how to fix it, I showed them my bank account that they took MONEY TWICE, it locked my card (couldn't even get gas on way home) and they told me to call their accountant since nobody there that could help me. What???? HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH TAKING MONEY AND NOT GIVING IT BACK. Watch your money there, they will take it and not give it back, double charging is the worst ANY RESORT could do. An amazing destination in Michigan! Bring your bike or E-bike and you’ll have a great way to ck out the area. Of course, rentals are always available too. The SkyBridge! It’s a must see-what an awesome engineering feat! The staff is so accommodating and helpful-don’t hesitate about the ski lift that takes you to the upper level, they’ll slow it down if you need an extra minute to depart. Hotel lobby is beautiful & welcoming! If you're there at the right time, you may find warm cookies waiting as you walk in! Little things count..., a lovely decanter of lemon-lime water, or cucumber basil water is right there for you if you're thirsty too. The food - absolutely amazing! Great hot breakfast buffet or order off the menu! You WILL enjoy your stay!

Overall, really enjoyed our time here. There are a nice range of activities as well as dining options. It's also very family friendly but a few too many kids for our taste. Although this could be a nice romantic get away, the presence of kids everywhere in the pool and hottub reminds you otherwise

The heated indoor/outdoor pool is great, the room we had was fantastic it had a whirlpool tub, fireplace and hillside view. Get the breakfast thing included with the room fee it's totally worth it. The water park was fun but kinda cold. The ton of MTB and hiking trails out there were awesome too

Absolutely an incredible adventure. It was like a winter wonderland. Tubing was absolutely fun. The fact our room had a fireplace was and a balcony was magical. The hot tub and outdoor heated pool was something I never thought I would do in the heart of winter. Absolutely amazing and the employees were friendly. Everything was close in proximity and the restaurants have amazing food. I would return again with my family

Just got back from a trip to Boyne Mountain and wanted to share my thoughts. Overall, it was a great time! The snow was fantastic, making for some great runs and enjoyable conditions. And the best part? It wasn't too crowded, so there was plenty of room to enjoy the slopes without having to deal with long lift lines.
However, I did have a bit of a frustrating experience with the lift lines. One of the operators making things more complicated than necessary, and the RFID readers were also not working properly. They didn't want to scan and caused delays getting up the mountain. It was a bit of a bummer, but the staff were doing their best to get everyone on their way.
All in all, though, I would definitely recommend Boyne Mountain for anyone looking for a fun day on the slopes.

Went to Avalanche Bay for our youngest son's birthday, and even though the main dropout slide was still down, we still had a good time. The place was vkean and the guards were attentive but no overbearing. My wife got in free b/c it was Mother's Day, so that was nice. Would recommend it since there really aren't too many indoor parks available in N. MI just plan on arriving early to get a decent parking spot! Well done Boyne!

Very nice courses, equally great layouts. We did have discounted greens fees for the Alpine, but still a bit pricey at $74 for aerated greens where the ball was bouncing all over. Played the Monument for $20 less and was in great shape and no aerated greens. The Monument is definitely the more difficult course.

There is so much to do here and it's such a fun place! We ended up having to leave early unexpectedly and even though they didn't have to per their policy they still refunded us our 2nd night. Kayla at the front desk was super helpful and a 5 star employee. Bloody mary was amazing and the food is great too. We will be back thanks for the hospitality Boyne!

Amazing Place, beautiful and a ton to do. The staff was very friendly and so accommodating. We booked a room and after one night felt it wasn't the best for us since we had a 3year old and needed something a bit bigger. The staff immediately helped us get a bigger room that was located central to everything. Even helped us move all our luggage to new room. Definitely a must stay for families. This resort takes amazing care of all guests. 5 ☆ place

Super amazing place to spend with your family. Prices aren't too bad for the rooms, but I definitely wouldn't recommend buying much food and drinks there as they are very overpriced. Make sure to pack drinks for the room and snack. Wait times aren't long for any of the ski lifts. They have great views and the service is very nice everyone is kind. The best part might have to he the pool that's outdoors it's a very great experience. The indoor waterpark is also very nice. Not very big, but still a great experience, although they did say the water would be heated. It was very cold, and the food is very very expensive. 15 dollars for 4 tenders and a drink. No fries. Overall I highly recommend this place for a trip with a family or significant other.

I love the fall colors here. It’s beautiful. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious but old and needs updating. It’s expensive but definitely charming. Do if you don’t want to stay at the resort, just stop by and hike up the mountain or ride up and go on the bridge. Highly recommend in the Fall about mid October.

Decent location. One million and two fees to just book a room. Front desk takes 40 minutes to check you in and finish paying for reservation. Rooms are expensive, dated and do not include water park passes. Door lock was very sensitive, my not even 2 year old could open the hotel door and walk out easily. Even with the top chain lock on, she could still easily open the door and smash her fingers. So that was a concern. We had to put a chair in front of the door. The view out the window is alright, nothing crazy. Nothing really even to see. Geese were all around the pond, the balcony was covered in bird poop.

A favorite for sure. While we were housed at Blue Green Vacation properties, they garnished us with free lift tickets and 50% off at local wineries for my mom and Aunt. The heated pool was amazing and was warmer than the hot tub. April is the 'off-season', but tons of skiing and boarding happening. The favorite spot was the SkyBridge, a must-see and do!
Alicia B — Google review
A lot of cancelled activities made our visit kind of a bummer. Ice skating and tubing were 2 activities we really wanted to do, both were cancelled. We had horseback riding scheduled and got a phone call as we were walking to the experience that it was cancelled. Three in our party paid for a full day of skiing only to ski for an hour and a half due to slushy snow that made it hard to ski. The water park is over priced for what it is. The pool is super small and only available to certain guests who are staying in the main lodge, not the guests in other condos and villas. Other guests have access to the clock tower pool, which is outdoor only.
Hiking was fun, food was good. Staff was friendly. Overall, we wouldn't come back.

Always a wonderful atmosphere when we visit in the winter. The service is excellent and we enjoy walking around the grounds and enjoying a few meals in the on-site restaurants. The rooms are always clean. The soaps provided in the bathroom smell absolutely amazing. The mattresses always seem semi firm with comfortable linens. I wish they had some firmer pillows as they're down and completely flatten as you lay on them.
We've visited a few restaurants and have always enjoyed the nice atmosphere and live music when we can. Everything is very accessible and close to the main lodge if you're wanting to walk from your room to a restaurant or bar. The pizza is amazing from the trophy room.

This place is going DOWNHILL quick. Outdated except for the prices. Main chair broke down while overcharging for tickets. $55 when others are $30 end of season. Outdated bathrooms are beat up as are the shops and grounds. Old and tired vs Cabrefe and Crystal. Overcharging 🤮 Used to be great here but no more. Terrain park is good 👍

The rooms are very old and could use some updating. But the service and location is great. The whole area has tons of restaurants and things to do it's convenient. The skiing here is great. I like that most of their trails stay open late. During the summer the mountain and stunning. There is a lot of outdoor activities from horse back riding, ziplining, biking etc.

This is a self contained community they have everything you may want for skiing here. You can fly in, or drive. Yes they do have golfing here, I see some trails for biking, soccer fields, pools, hot tubs, gas grills for cooking, friendly staff, clean condos.

Took the family down there, it was our first time. We lodged in a 7-12 person condo. We had a great time everybody was friendly. The food was good especially the 40 Acres Tavern wings! We did a little skiing for the first time the personal trainer definitely helped us to get an understanding. Last we went to the indoor water park which included three tube slides.
Massive water park inside a resort featuring slides, a lazy river & children's pool.
Everyone was friendly and helpful. Midweek wasn't the least crowded and the price wasn't extravagant either. Great section for smaller kids, with fountains and shallow pools to splash in. Lots for the big kids too. Four bigger slides, the surfing wave and a nice arcade.
Amy Stevens — Google review
We arrived at 1105 and had a short wait to get inside. The park was perfect for our 2.5 year old. The lines for the slides were minimal. The food was what you’d expect from a water park. The life guards were polite and plentiful. The restrooms were clean and the towels were always available. The chlorine wasn’t overwhelming like other parks we’ve been to. The only “issues” were the other patrons inattentiveness and the occasional rudeness. We would definitely come back.

Amazing indoor water slides. There are a bunch of great slides for the brave and all very different. The spaces for the younger kids isn't as great but good enough.
They must be short on staffing now. One guy was hustling his butt off to send people down all of the slides at the top of stairs. The food counter had just one person taking orders or handing them out and was slammed so that was very slow. Food that was ready sat there waiting to be handed out for over 10-15 mins.
A little cold on the food side of the building. Better on the other end by the hot tubs.
Great water park really just marred by short staffing.
Marcus Bergstrom — Google review
Strictly talking about the Waterpark, nothing really stands out in terms of slides and such. Having the surf wave is a huge boon and really fun. It's an average indoor Waterpark. What separates Avalanche Bay from other places I've been is the life guards. Not only were they attentive, but they were professional and friendly. They were everywhere and I felt confident in letting my kids go about without my supervision, and that my kids would be safe. They were helpful and helped all my kids learn to surf and such. The lifeguards are what make this place great.

Really fun place for the family! There are a lot of fun rides, the play structure for the kids is amazing (2 entry points, ready to watch the kiddos).
Food prices are a little rough, however the loaded waffle fries are awesome and the drinks were very good.
Highly recommend, probably the best waterpark we've been to in Michigan!

Where do I start! If you're like me and research everything and the tickets are still in your cart, CHECK OUT NOW! Lol it's worth every penny! We went from noon till 8pm and we had fun the entire time! We didn't even make it to the arcade! I lost my glasses in the lazy River and when I tell you the staff went diving! They put on a 3 hour search and found them for me! I was so grateful I can not begin to tell yall! Ther was a bottomless bucket of towels! Never a wait for rest rooms. The Bar,,,,Rides,,,and snack shacks were busy. But when I tell you the staff had the lines going! We waited no more than 10min for anything! I will be back a few times this year! Jacuzzi, kiddie pools, we found seating right away. Do not listen to the negative reviews. This water park is exactly what it should be! WET...BUSY...SPLASHY FUN AND WORTH EVERY DOLLAR🤸🏾♀️

Clean wonderful place! If your child is 48-52” note that their 48” sign at the bottom and measuring post at the top for the tube slides is off by quite a few inches and they won’t be allowed to ride. Two other fun slides they can enjoy and my littlest enjoyed the toddler area.

Disappointed!!! We heard this was a largest water park in Mi. The lighting is dim, the air hurt our eyes from chlorine! Even before we got into the cold water! They aloud high school age boys to throw balls at each other in the little kiddos pool! Hit our 1 year old in the head with a ball! Not as much to do compared to other indoor water parks!!! Anyone can walk right in there, they don’t check to see if you have a tickets!!! Bathrooms/locker rooms not clean! Will not go back!

Nice room. It wasn't cleaned well when we arrived. Water park bracelet on the floor and the dishes were spotty. The kitchen table had grime and crumbs on it. Outrageous prices at stores and eateries. I know it's a resort, but dang.
Jason — Google review
Loved this place, it was so fun!
Only reason i didn't give 5 stars is bc they really need to make the kiddie pool a little more inclusive to learning walkers.. and not only have 1 big slide with 3 mini water fountains.
And bc this place needs WAY MORE seating. Considering how busy this place was (bc they're only open 3 days a week) and how pricey the tickets are there should be guaranteed seating for at least 2 ppl per party of 5.

For the high cost and the great quality of the rest of Boyne Mountain resort, I’m shocked that this has good reviews. The waterpark does not look as nice as the pictures. It is gross, outdated, and so so cramped. Everything is on top of each other with very little walking space. There is not a single inch of this place to relax - one hot tub is full of kids, a chaotic short lazy river, and the only sitting places are a couple chairs scattered.
If you are staying here and need to entertain your kids and $50/person doesn’t mean much to you then sure. I would never drive out of my way for this waterpark, there are so many better ones like Kalahari.
Andria W — Google review
It’s alright for a small indoor park in tiny town USA. If we’re going to say that the best water parks are 5 stars it’d be hard to give this one more than 3. It’s just very small and compact. You can run through everything they have in about an hour. So you end up paying resort prices to do the same 6 things all day or float in a circle on the miniature lazy river that mostly runs under the slides. It’s clean well presented. The attractions they do have are fun. Most of the life guards are young kids that look like they partied hard the night before / on the way to work & I wouldn’t fully trust their attention to detail if I brought little ones here.

Was am amazing experience. I have a 3 year old and he had so much he could enjoy!! They offer life vests if needed which I thought was great!! Life guards were always patrolling and there wasn't a moment I couldn't see at least 1 in my view. Prices were very reasonable for the amount we had to do. Highly recommend

Everything was great except for when I was on the Rip Zone a bunch of kids were laughing at me. Life guards need to stop them instead of also laughing. Oh well I'm pretty sure everyone is just jealous of how rad I looked shredding it up so whatever. Also slushies at the snack shack are super yummy.

Avalanche Bay offered so much fun for my 12, 13, 16, and 18 year old. Many slides and activities to do. Several water slides, a pool with basketball hoops and a bunch of activities, a surfing thing, lazy river, a couple hot tubs, a huge activity tower with lots to do, and a little kid area. Lifeguards. All the safety things.
Positives: It really is a great place to go for kids of all ages. Its well kept and clean. My kids had a fantastic time and kept them very busy.
Negatives: I feel it's pricey. If you've ever been to Cedar Point or Great America...during the "on" season its similarly priced with not nearly as much to do. But...if you go during a day thats 20 to 30 dollars=worth it.
GET THERE EARLY. Lots if seating but definitely not enough to accommodate everyone there. Same for the lockers in the locker room. They were all taken when we got there with no alternatives. So...no seats, no lockers. The locker rooms were quite a mess because of this.
THE FOOD: Although there are several restaurants in the resort, they do have a little Cafe eatery in the water park. By 2:30 they had run out of most of their menu (no pizza, garlic, bread, or chicken tenders). They still had hot dogs and cheese curds. The prices are horrendous $6.50 for a hot dog. The pizza price was decent but not available. We were able to go to a nearby pizzeria and order pizzas to go. However...we went during the peak ski season so the wait at any other place was awful.
All in all the things that sucked were adult worries and my kids had no idea. They had a great time and it was worth it.
Just...get there EARLY.

Just a day trip with the kids.
Our first time there, and it was excellent!
However, I just wish they had a family changeroom. I'm a single father with 2 young daughters. Instead, we had to wait for a family washroom to change in. It is what it is... we made it work.
Dan Leduc — Google review
Not a whole lot for adults, the waterpark passes themselves are expensive for the amount of other things you have to pay for while there. Realistically, the passes should be like 30 dollars considering that's about all it's worth. Friendly staff. Locker rooms were sopping wet and crowded, should at least squeegee the floors every once in awhile. Especially with all of the kids running around. Waits weren't too long for slides, only 2 slides running but overall, decent experience. The room was almost 240 dollars. The couch squeaked all night long. Room felt very dated.
Rockelle Romano — Google review
It was okay. We got the 30% off deal for a day pass before spring break, but I would have been highly disappointed if we'd paid full price (~$260 for 4 people). Definitely needs some updates as you can see paint peeling off in several places. It was mostly clean when we first got there at opening time, however no one keeps up on anything that we saw, I had a clump of someone else's hair stuck on my ankle at one point. Lots of hair and food pieces on the floors. Highly suggest water shoes because of this. Locker rooms were filthy, disgusting, and you can't use your own lock, you have to pay for a locker.
It's nice that they have two medium sized water slides for younger kids, that don't empty into a pool at the end. The large water slides were fun, they just didn't have the one running that we looked forward to using (the toilet bowl one).
There's a good sized area for smaller kids to play safely in.
The water is too cold and the chlorine was harsher on our eyes than most places we've been.
A lifeguard whistled and yelled at my husband for having our 5 year old on his shoulders in the basketball pool (he was the only thing between her and all the teenagers throwing basketballs).
There's not really a pool adults can enjoy, only one with lots of basketball hoops where kids are playing. Which leaves the lazy river being the only place adults who can't use waterslides can enjoy.
It says it's the biggest indoor water park in Michigan, however I don't see how it's any bigger than Great Wolf or Soaring Eagle they all look the same. Definitely not worth the full price, if you get a discount it's worth the kids being able to do something different in the winter.
We won't be back anytime soon.

My family only visited the water park, Avalanche Bay, we did not stay in the hotel. The water park was okay. The stairs going up to the slides were painted gray and black, and it made it a little weird to walk up... they should maybe have a brighter color on the edge of the step for safety purposes. It didn't seem like there was enough chlorine in the pools. There was an odd background smell across the whole water park that smelled like a lack of chlorine and almost like a mechanical oil issue? The area for the kids, the big fort, was good overall. Again, there are a few safety issues with one area that is a wooden bridge that was SUPER slippery that they had rubber rugs on, but they really should come up with a more permanent solution...the rugs didn't cover the entire bridge and were slid down themselves a little even. There were also a few different step areas in the fort that were a little raised that if you're not careful and picking up your feet enough will trip you, or potentially hurt the bottom of your foot. The locker rooms as a visiting day guest were ok. I was really only SUPER concerned about the shower areas. I went in to shower off before leaving as I was a day guest, and there were little moths on my legs and body in the shower that were living in the shower, and the walls of the showers could use a good deep clean. We did enjoy the racing slides, the lazy river, and the big slides. We most likely will be back, but we may utilize the bathroom of the hotel lobby as that was quite a bit cleaner to the eye, and there were no moths in that restroom.

Cost way too much money to go in here. Website did not say much more than it needs to be saying way over cost that it should be in this park. I wouldn’t come back here again way too expensive for a little to do. not to mention, the food was way too expensive understand it cost a lot to run apart but the food was not the greatest and it was way too expensive
Sprawling park land covered in old growth forest features rolling hills overlooking AuSable River.
If you are a avid fan of forests then this is a great state park to visit it has a beautiful area it's a beautiful area of old growth forest of which many are old pines that are just fantastic great place to take pictures if you are a landscape photographer and a great place to have is great place to have some solitude. In the Winter the pathways were quite icy so probably not a great place for older adults or young children but I'm sure in the summer it is perfectly fine not aware of other facilities only visited the old growth forest while visiting.

Serene…there’s just something majestic about the pine trees and walking where you feel like you’re completely alone yet with friends in nature. Highly recommend if you’re in the area. Hartwick Pines is a really nice state park campground! Many of the sites are large, have level asphalt pads, are wooded/full-shade, and are very secluded. Some of the sites are full sun/partial shade but the draw to them is they are pull-through.
The showers and bathrooms were always clean and I noticed employees there frequently checking and cleaning them.
It was very quiet on the weekend we stayed there even though it was fully booked. The only sound complaint is of the extremely loud, low-flying helicopters going to the air force base nearby. Four or five flew over during the duration of our stay.
The only other complaint is that there isn't really a beach area or place to go fishing. Also, the park is very sprawling and expect to drive 5+ minutes to get anywhere inside it. The paved trail through the old growth forest definitely made up for it though! That in itself is worth a visit.

When we stayed at the campground, it was before they really opened up for the season. Unfortunately, we had wild fires while we were there. The lakes were nice and looked like they would have good fishing.

This is another place where I spent some serious summer time as a child. Lots of great memories. Was disappointed as I couldn’t find a concession store but I thoroughly enjoyed the many trails. Most were completely empty on a beautiful day in May. Some were still quite wet but the solitude and beauty were exactly what I remembered. Tall pines. Logging camp history. Chapel in the Woods. All good.

Very nice campground, bathroom and shower facilities are the best I have seen. We took our two grandchildren which us why I rated. 3, the playground is unusable which I was not aware of when booking. The hike to the Glory and Bright lakes was very nice, however I did not realize when I booked there is no swimming at the campground or these lakes you need to drive to other state parks nearby. The museum, chapel and memorial building were great although more for adults than kiddos.

Beautiful park. The cleanest bathrooms I've seen in a state park. Nice size lots. Wish there was more shade on the full hookup sites. Lots of shades on electrical only sites. Only downside - no cell service. Which could also be a good thing depending on how you look at it. 🙂
The Mission Point Lighthouse is a 19th-century structure that has been restored and provides scenic views of the nearby lake from its tower. Along with the lighthouse, visitors can enjoy various activities such as hiking trails, swimming at the beach, and staying in a log cabin. To explore the area further, renting a bicycle in Traverse City is recommended to bike along the wine trail on both sides of town.
We were here during the off season. This is an absolutely beautiful area. The lighthouse itself is very impressive looking. The beach is gorgeous. We really enjoyed the trail system. We hiked for about four hours and did a lot of geocaching. If you enjoy hiking and historical buildings, this is a fantastic place to visit.

Autumn Color travels led us to Old Mission Peninsula, and the end of M-37. Home to Old Mission Lighthouse. Rich historical landmark, with informational markers posted, to share the many stories, that make this place great! A small native garden was recently planted, and serves as a great reminder of the vast nature and beauty around us (planted by Mission Point Lighthouse Friends in 2017). For a small fee, you may visit the Lighthouse Museum, and make the climb to the top of the lighthouse and lookout! So fun for the kids! Picture Perfect location. There is an option to go down to the sandy beach, both steps, AND WC ramp available! You pick! On our trip, this BEAUTIFUL FALL COLOR DAY, we met a lovely couple from Indiana, and their SWEET dog named, “Mister.” Photos too many to count! Here are just a few! LOVE all things about our Great Lakes!!

I really enjoyed it. Very small museum and you can go up into the tower for a small fee. Very tight squeeze to get up there, but it's nice. The beach is also very popular and a nice place to hang out. It does get a bit busy though.

A MUST if you are in the Traverse City area. Not only the drive through the heels and beards of the Peninsula is outstanding, but the place itself lens of view of how the first Michigan settlers lived for the kids checking out the 45th parallel marker is an educational highlight
The place can get really busy and there is limited parking so try to beat the crowds at all costs.
Also, we recommend that you drive not on the main highway, but on the roads, on the edge of both sides of the peninsula, the views and locations are without-match.

We went up in the lighthouse a few years ago and the view was amazing! It was super tight up there and I'm not fond of enclosed spaces, so it was a little traumatic for me. We went down to the beach and people were swimming and rock hunting. I definitely recommend!

The views, the history, the water, the hikes, what an outstanding area! The drive out here takes you through rolling hills of Cherry Trees and wineries! It's worth it just for the drive itself!
There is a beautiful beach to walk down, and you can swim if you would like. The dogs of course had to get into the water. There are benches to just sit and watch the waves! Make sure to take your time and read all the signs and history of this area. You can climb the lighthouse tower when it's open, and there is a small giftshop inside the lighthouse as well. Nice area with access to the beach, some walking trails, a log cabin to view and you can visit the inside of the lighthouse. Lighthouse was $5/adult and kids under 6 are free. I found the money going towards a good cause for the upkeep of an interesting landmark on the peninsula.

This was a lovely walk in the park and a history-lover fun day. The day I went was the one day of the year that the log house was open, it was very cool. Randy and Anita were full of facts and knowledge. The lighthouse museum was interesting and learned a lot about this particular one.

It was totally worth it to take the kids up to see. You have to pay to go up, but you can go in the gift shop for free. I paid $24 for one adult and two children under the age of 11 and one toddler (free) to go in. Staff was incredibly caring and enthusiastic about their jobs. You can tell that they all really care about preserving the history of the lighthouse. Lots of neat things to read and artifacts to see. We enjoyed it very much and happened to be there for the log cabin day and got to explore that and learn about that as well. Parking is easy, short walk from the parking lot to the actual lighthouse. Neat view from the top but very cramped and very hot! I do not recommend climbing up to the very top if you have extremely wide hips or a bigger belly or are extremely tall, it was difficult to get up there and cramped inside- only a few people at a time. You definitely need to be able bodied as well, and there is no alternative for someone in a wheelchair or with physical restrictions that prevent them from climbing stairs.

This is my favorite beach spot for the family.
It’s quant with a historic little lighthouse on a hill.
The water at the beach is crystal clear, shallow, and calm.
Love driving up here too. The drive on the peninsula is awe inspiring and lovely.

A beautiful drive up to the lighthouse. It was peaceful and no traffic. Once you get up there, you will have no problem finding parking. It’s $8 for one adult to explore the museum other than that you can explore the gift shop for free. It’s not a big place but you can leisurely explore the area. It can get breezy and cold so wear a jacket/coat/hoodie. Staff was very kind and helpful.

A must visit if you're on the peninsula. We've visited twice now. Most recently the lighthouse was open and we were able to see inside. I noticed initially it looked like the lake level was down a bit from 3 years ago when we were last there. Inside, there was a map showing the water levels from years past and yep, this year its down a bit. Lots of history and a great view of the lake. The water is crystal clear!

This is a beautiful lighthouse! It was closed so we didn't tour inside but really enjoyed the lake. Dogs are allowed on a leash and the water was clear and calm. We were intrigued by all the shells that made a shell bar. Water in this area is shallow and birds were gathering on the rocks far out. A nice place to hang for chill time. Good parking and satellite toilets.

Mission Point Lighthouse
Came here in 2020 to enjoy a nice quiet vacation in Traverse City.
Interesting building and location.
This building is located on the 45th Parallel. FYI, it's the halfway point between the equator and the north pole.

This location is 45th parallel or half way between the North Pole and equator which is awesome!!Absolutely beautiful views! The lighthouse is sooo cool! The beach is sandy and wonderful with a lot of rocks and small shells too! The fall colors in October are absolutely stunning but it was vvveeerrry cold by the water! So definitely be prepared! It is not a hard trail to walk to the beach or lighthouse. There is also a small house to look at which is neat! If you come to this location it is a must see historical spot! The water is so beautifully blue!

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mission Point Lighthouse during our Lake Michigan road trip adventure, and it was an absolute highlight! As passionate photographers, our mission was to capture the beauty of lighthouses along our journey, and Mission Point Lighthouse did not disappoint.
The lighthouse itself is a charming piece of Michigan history, nestled at the north end of a scenic drive through cherry orchards and vineyards. It may no longer guide mariners, but it now guides curious souls like us into the past, offering a glimpse of life from a bygone era.
The staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing our experience with fascinating stories about the lighthouse's history. We even had the chance to climb all the way up to the tower for breathtaking views of the surrounding area. It's a photographer's dream come true!
We also explored the park's unspoiled trails, enjoyed picnicking, and soaked in the stunning sunset views. The beach and hiking trails are perfect for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers alike.
The gift shop is a treasure trove for lighthouse enthusiasts, offering a wide range of exclusive lighthouse-related souvenirs. Don't forget to check out the unique snow globes!
As travelers and photographers, we're active on social media as Stray Compass Life, and we couldn't resist sharing our Mission Point Lighthouse experience with our followers. This place is a must-visit for anyone seeking history, natural beauty, and a touch of lighthouse magic.
We were pleased to support the mission of this lighthouse and gladly paid the admission fee, knowing it helps preserve this historical gem for future generations.
Whether you're a history buff, a photographer, or simply someone looking for a serene spot to unwind, Mission Point Lighthouse should be on your Lake Michigan itinerary. We hope to visit again soon!

Lakeside park with a swimming beach plus opportunities for fishing, hiking, camping & picnicking.
Words cannot accurately describe this beautiful place. Waters the color of the Caribbean, great camping, hiking and a gorgeous lake... you'll never want to leave. Just be sure to choose a site on South side of the lake, the North side is ok but only one restroom/shower up a hill and nowhere near the camp store.

Rented a mini-cabin here in middle October 2022. It’s a pretty, classic Michigan State Park! The Mini Cabin has electric heat which works well, a mini fridge, and a microwave. My only complaint is that there is no outlet on the exterior of the cabin so you cannot trickle charge an EV, for example. Not really an issue this time of year since there are many open campsites nearby but something to keep in mind if you’re driving here with an EV and plan to stay at one of the cabins.

North Higgins Lake State Park is stunning in autumn. The colorful forest and calm lake create a peaceful setting. The trails are well-maintained for leisurely walks, and there are nice spots for picnics. The facilities are basic but clean. It's a great place for nature lovers to relax in Michigan's fall beauty.

Sooooo beautiful. Clear water (one of the clearer lakes I’ve been in Míchigan) and wonderful areas to relax for a while. There were some kind of pest caterpillars on the trees which fall over everything (also your belongings) but the place is fantastic and it’s worthy. Nice toilets and barbecue areas. Small but clean Sandy (beach) to enjoy.

Definitely lived up to the rumors. This was quiet and tranquil. Great for a relaxing time. Not a party hot spot. Super quiet. Bathrooms were a little outdated but clean amd kept up. Breathtaking views of the lake and great kayaking/water access.

🌊🌊♥️♥️North Higgins is our favorite local lake so far! We drive 45 mins to and from; but we enjoy ourselves, every time! Our kids love to play in the beautiful, crystal clear, always cold, lake; than go dry off by swinging on the swings and playing on the play areas.
They have a very nice recreational area and permanent grills 🍖 🔥 setup around the beach area and wooden tables to set and keep your things nice and together! They have awesome rubber beach mats to make the walk through the sand down to the water easier on shoeless feet. 👣 👣 North Higgins also does half covered areas for get togethers, events, bday parties 🎉!
Additionally, they also offered canoe rentals. However, we haven’t yet had the budget for canoeing 🛶 yet, so I am not sure of the pricing options but it is listed on the trailer your rent them from.
👍👍 Nice public bathrooms! Which are accessible when the park is opened for the season; and are closed when out of season. They also offer a sand rinse-off area; so you can lessen the sand, you track back into your vehicle! 🚘 🏖️
Oh! And be sure to watch for those seagulls, they’ll steal your food; if they can get to it! 🦅 ( <—not an actual seagull, merely a dramatization, lol)
🛑 Due note: 🛑This park does require you to have the park pass you can purchase from them at $17 for the length of your plate time or from your local dmv at a discounted price when you renew your plates/tags/etc but gets your access to all the state parks! 🌲 🌲 🛝 Which is, awesome in itself! If you are a Michigan resident, you are unable to purchase a day pass. Not quite sure why it’s regulated that way, as we found it a bit odd, but we signed up for the pass with us being residents. Non-residents have the ability to purchase a day pass for a discounted cost.
Lastly, all in all, we love it and always enjoy our time there and leave refreshed, relaxed and sun kissed, not burnt! ☀️ See ya next North Higgins. Stay fresh to def!

Nice campground on the north shore of Higgins Lake. The area is heavily wooded, so most sites are shaded with mature trees. There is a beach, including a pet friendly area, with picnic tables and a playground. The two campgrounds also have playgrounds.
There are modern restrooms and showers that are clean and well maintained. A negative for some might be road noise as the campground is close to the highway. Also, there are no grassy sites due to the trees.
For those with boats, there is a boat ramp with cleaning stations and plenty of parking. They even have an area where you can store your boat if you do not have room on your site.
All in all, a very nice park that I plan to visit again.

I love this campground and beach! The sites on the side opposite of the road are much better, but they all are at the least super decent. The lake was close and perfect to swim and kayak, I'll come back!

Very family oriented. Kids had a wonderful time water was still a little cold but that's too be expected for memorial weekend. lots of ppl fun atmosphere, have a small stand that $ sells $ flotation devices and toys for children to play with. Not to bad of prices for us that forget to bring them.

Very clear water which stays shallow for nearly 100 yards out. If you want a safe swim place for kids, this is it.
The main beach is long and there are lots of shade trees. Only complaint is that it's a far walk from the car! If you are bringing lots of food and stuff down, definitely bring a cart to haul.
Yitz Pierce — Google review
Every year we get a little more disappointed. People get louder and louder and quiet time isn't enforced. The food truck is gone. Lots of dogs on the beach this year. The campground itself is nice and the bathrooms and showers have been very clean. Camp host does a craft for the kids. The trail to the lake is not lighted tho, make sure you have a flashlight!! Some rule changes mean you can't drop your kayaks off and park your car at the docks anymore. We may just day trip from now on.

Have camped here many times and always enjoy it. There are 2 mini cabins for those slightly less adventurous. The cabins have electricity, heat (for winter) a fan ( for warm weather, a mini fridge & microwave. The modern bathrooms with showers are nearby. Higgins Lake is a beautiful, clean spring fed lake that is perfect for little ones as it stays shallow for a great distance out. Nice picnic area, good fishing and nearby hiking trails. Give it a try.

Words cannot describe how beautiful Higgins Lake is, which is why im adding photos with this review. The turquoise crystal clear blue water with white sandy bottoms is so calming for the soul. We love how peaceful the view on the lake from our kayaks was. The boaters were so respectful of kayakers and it was not over crowded on the lake or the beach. If i won the lotto i would live on this lake

I flew from San diego, California, to visit my best friend in her hometown of Roscommon, Michigan. From someone who grew up on the sunny, sandy beaches of San diego, I can promise you this.... It was by far the clearest and cleanest water I've ever seen. The trees were breathtaking around every bend. The water, all be it still cold from winter, was absolutely perfect. It was a literal breath of fresh air.

We are taking our new RV out on it shakedown cruise. We want to be relatively close to home in case we run into problems. Nicely shaded. Trees are a mix of pines and hardwoods. We are here midweek and early June, so we are not crowded. There is a nice beach area, and a dog beach for those who travel with their dogs, and boat launching area. Near by are rivers for canoeing/kayaking. There are also hiking trails in the park.
Very nice stop. Refreshing wine and contemporary style. A bit too much forced socalizing, but we did learn something and they had the best wine we tasted. Had to purchase some to bring home. Worth checking out!

We have been to 2Lads a few times over the years and unfortunately our last visit was not met with expectations.
The selection of wines for tasting was very limited (6-7 at best) and how tastings are operated are not conducive for someone looking to try and find a wine they like.
Now you have to buy a flight and it was 3 (2oz) pours for $15. Or you could buy by the half or full glass, but this doesn’t help if you are not sure what you like.
But for the wine enthusiast, you’ll enjoy your visit and the view over the bay is great.

We had a fantastic tour with Karl. Highly recommend the wine club as discounts and this amazing tour “behind the scenes” with a flight and huge charcuterie board pairing are included. We learned a lot about this beautiful winery and the close attention to detail they have of their craft.

Absolutely gorgeous winery and lovely selections of wine. They are so popular that their flight was limited when we visited! Great place to grab a glass (and a charcuterie board) and chill with friends.

Most of the vineyards on Old Mission have changed the way they do wine tastings. They now do wine "flights" and they are way more expensive! I would also highly recommend going on a weekday or getting a reservation for a group of 4 or larger to avoid long waits. They still have a great view and I do like their wine. They are not my most favorite but I would say they are best at making dry white wines, so if you like dry whites, definitely check them out. I even liked their Pinot Gris which is not typically a wine I enjoy.

We visited four wineries on Old Mission Peninsula, and this was easily the best. The wine was fantastic (wish we would have bought more here…we saved some money for the other wineries, but they weren’t near as good). It’s complex and has interest. The staff was so friendly and the view is the best we had. It’s very clean and simple to sip outside (what we did). Also the food is great (again, the best we had on the peninsula). Worth the trip to the top of the peninsula. We’d recommend not stopping other places and just spend the day here.

Arrived around 3pm on a Saturday. Great location and nice modern architecture. It was super busy probably because of visitors coming for the race in Bayshore. Had to wait in line for about 20 minutes to get a couple of flights. Wine really isn’t my thing but it was good. There were a lot of chairs out on the grass so you could sit and. Not up on the wines prices but these 6 2oz pours were almost $30. If you like wine I’d say this is a winner, but if you don’t, I’d say keep driving. All in all nice experience and super friendly staff. Well done.

Chateau Chantal Winery and Inn is a charming rural establishment that offers comfortable lodgings, some equipped with balconies and jetted tubs. The inn also provides complimentary wine tastings for guests to enjoy. The winery itself boasts of stunning aesthetics, making it a must-visit destination for any traveler in the area. It comes highly recommended and is an ideal spot for friends to gather or couples seeking a romantic getaway.
We have visited here for many years. The staff is incredible - and Bob, the owner, is a kind and accommodating host. Tonight he took the time to personally start a fire for us in the common area fireplace and share history of the vineyard with us. I especially like their late harvest Riesling. A beautiful place to spend time - with sincere and welcoming hosts!

I had a great experience at Chateau Chantal earlier today (January 4, 2023)!!
It was my first time there and the Tasting Room Manager, Hailey Green, couldn't have been nicer in greeting me, answering my questions about their wine selections (I was looking for sweeter wines), and directing me towards a few selections which I really liked!!
The ambiance and decor of the place is really inviting, as well, and the views of the countryside are beautiful!!
I will definitely be back again.

Had an unforgettable experience staying in the bed and breakfast at Chateau Chantal this week. The hospitality was as amazing as the views. Highly recommend. We had less-than-great weather and it was still memorable. I imagine it's not feasible for everyone, but they were offering off-season midweek deals that were quite enticing. If you'd rather save a few bucks and avoid staying here at full capacity, it's definitely worth a look.

It is great for tour and good scenary rather than for wine. I was given 3 choices of wines to taste for 12+$ and tasted 7 including my wife's choices. We love Michigan and tasted many other local wines but nothing came to my taste this time, so I can't recommend any either. It can be just my taste.

This is place is a paradise! It’s overwhelmingly beautiful and cute. I have stayed here a few times, and each time has been delightful. The rooms are always exquisite, the executive apartment we stayed in was pure luxury and serenity, with beautiful views and every amenity you could possibly need or desire. Marie herself was a delight and she greeted each of us in the morning with her hospitality and sat with us and even shared her fantastic recipe for what we were enjoying for our morning breakfast. The bonus was the beautiful grand piano in the lounge that I got to play and enjoy after hours. If you're looking for a place to feel at peace and be surrounded by one of the prettiest peninsulas in Northern Michigan, I highly suggest a stay at the Chateau Chantal.

Beautiful setting up on a hill overlooking the vineyard and the bay in the distance. They offer several different options to enjoy their wine. My wife and I each ordered a flight and relaxed out on their spacious deck to take in the scenery. The wine itself is hot or miss; depends what you like. We both thought the whites we had were better than the reds.

Chateau Chantal was on our advanced list of places to visit as it was mentioned in a number of books and articles that we had read. The location of this winery is the top selling point. Located back off the road you drive through the vineyards to make it back to the winery, inn, and tasting room. The winery is located on top of the hill with views of the bay on both sides. It is one of the best settings ever to sit and enjoy a glass of wine.
So let's talk about the three stars. First off, this place is designed to crank people through their tasting area. When you walk in the door you have to stop and purchase your ticket before you even walk into the tasting room. The tasting is $10 for a three-wine tasting, or you can get a single glass of wine for the same amount. Then you stand in a queue with your ticket in hand to go to a tasting station.
We had a nice young man working at the winery while attending the maritime college in Traverse City. He was helpful and set us up with our three tasters in a cool wine caddy so you can take your wines outside.
I would definitely stick to the roses and whites here. Our favorite was the sparkling rose, and we purchased a bottle for a friend who we would be visiting later on the trip. The reds on the other hand were underwhelming. They were not very deep in their flavors and just were not something that I would choose to drink regularly.
Then the staff starts throwing away box after box of wine bottles into a dumpster directly below where we were sitting. Do you know that sound of crashing glass that just makes you cringe? Do that over and over again and the setting is ruined. I wish we had been able to visit other wineries in the area to have more of a comparison, but this was not exactly what I was hoping for.

My partner and I stopped in late on 6/8/23 and had excellent service provided by Katherine! We were greeted with a very happy and pleasant demeanor despite it being late. Also, we were pleased that she had lots of knowledge of the menu and the property. We ended up purchasing a bottle of sweet red, one of our favorites. Thank you again, Katherine!

Their cherry sparkling wine is the best cherry wine we’ve tried. They also have the most selection of wine. They’re also the busiest wineries, we even saw tour bus coming here just for the tasting.
The downside to me is that since we have a dog, so we were not allowed to go to the patio, we had to sit on the west side under the sun, it just not a really pleasant experience especially if you’re trying to taste some white wines

The views from the back deck are stunning -- you can see the water on both sides of the peninsula. The wine, however, is not great. I thought maybe I made a mistake by sampling only reds, however I tried a few whites and they, too, were not good. But hey -- taste is subjective so go grab a flight, pull up a seat on the deck, and try it for yourself! If nothing else you'll at least enjoy the vistas!

We stayed at Chateau Chantal B&B for our 46th anniversary. It was a wonderful choice. Accommodations, service and breakfast were excellent. Lovely views of Traverse Bay and vineyards on expansive patios and terraces. We stayed in the Degas suite. PRO TIP: Take your tasting to the front side of the property, it’s so much more secluded with incredible views and quiet ! The winery itself boasts an incredible property. This is the kind of place you can go and spend an entire day /afternoon. The wine is super easy sipping , the tastings come in sets of 3, from a select portion of the menu. Some reserves can be sold at an up charge to the tasting. This is one of the only places that you can find ice wines, which are very sweet. This felt like much more of a commercialized experience, still excellent but by no means a “small” family vineyard! If anything go for the incredible panoramic coastal views!

Did not acknowledge us until 10 minutes of being in the waiting area. Even though workers passed by and saw us. Found out that the 'view side' didn't allow dogs. How can you say dog friendly if the main attraction is not? Went to the other side and left after 15 minutes of no service.

We had written Chateau Chantal off some years ago after having some snooty and poor service. After being served by Bill that has completely turned around. He was friendly and helpful and inviting - the opposite of what we experienced a few years ago.
The wines are varied and very solid with some great dry reds that we enjoyed sipping.
The pricing structure seems to have undergone a change as well and for the better. While still not quite our favorite on the peninsula, we will definitely be back and happy to enjoy a glass or two on the patio.

A charming winery situated atop a bluff, providing picturesque views of the bay from both indoor and outdoor spaces. The establishment offers competitive flight pricing and caters to a diverse clientele by including mixed drinks for those who may not exclusively prefer wine. The wines and vodka on offer exhibit commendable flavors, with a particular recommendation for those inclined towards sweeter varieties. While the wines here may not match the California style, the overall experience and selection make it a worthwhile destination, especially for enthusiasts of sweeter wine profiles.

The absolute highlight of our Traverse City trip. Had the fall 6 course dinner with wine pairings Friday, and returned Saturday because it was just that good. Special mention must be made both for the chef, Jonathan Thomas, and our host, Bill. Jonathan prepared one of the best meals my fiancé and I have eaten in years, and Bill presented the wines, pairings, and history of the chateau with marvelous eccentricity and passion. It is so wonderful seeing people in their element who obviously love what they do. The wines were incredible and priced reasonably, despite being by far the best we tried that weekend among dozens. Cannot recommend highly enough. Only (small) nitpick was that when we returned the next day for a second experience, we found there were no real fresh food options available to go with the wine in the tasting room. They do have a decently stocked grab and go section, however. Overall this was a great experience, and definitely one we will revisit regularly.

I stayed with my sisters and mom for four nights at Chateau Chantal in June of this year, our home base for a wine sojourn across the Old Mission Peninsula. The Inn itself is impeccable in every aspect, situated in the highest and most scenic spot on the peninsula, and with comfortable and well-appointed rooms.
While we had originally booked a (lovely) room with a king bed and pullout couch, we were able to transfer (at a generously discounted cost) to the Schoolhouse Suite, which was a 2-floor masterpiece of a living space with a full kitchen, small veranda, luxe sitting area, a beautiful bathroom, and two bedrooms. I was battling a hip injury and my mother was sidelined by osteoporosis, which made the second "real" bed/room a necessity we hadn't anticipated. We were so grateful for the kindness of everyone we worked with - Ann, Jenny, the rest of the fastidious and kind staff.
Breakfast each morning was wonderful, and so were the stories told by the Vineyard owner himself! The grounds were immaculate, and the joy abounded. I would definitely recommend the Chateau to any looking for serene, accommodating, comfortable lodging in the heart of Michigan wine country.

Grand Traverse Distillery is a distillery that produces vodka, gin, whiskey and rum using locally sourced ingredients. They offer tours for visitors to see the process of making their spirits. The tour is approximately 30 minutes long and costs $10 per person, including a free tasting glass. Additionally, patrons can enjoy cocktails before the tour and purchase unique items in their shop. All staff members are fully vaccinated, and masks are required on the tour for added safety measures.
This distillery tour was delightful. The two of us joined another group (of four) for the tasting and tour, and thanks to our host/guide, we all felt like friends. Our host was knowledgeable and helpful during the tasting and the tour was comprehensive but not too long. It’s a pretty quick tour, about 30 min, but for only $10 a person it was a great deal, we learned a lot, and it came with a free tasting glass. Our tour guide was fantastic and made great drinks. You can get a cocktail beforehand to take on the tour! Lots of unique items to buy in the shop. We also loved that all staff is vaccinated, and masks were required on the tour, it made us feel more comfortable and safe.

Tour was good, Laura was so nice and informative. We got a glass and had several tastings. I like how they have vodka, gin, rum and whiskey. She knew what they mixed well with too.

Stopped on a whim as we had enjoyed their Cherry Vodka before. For $15 each, you can get a very informative tour and tasting at this location. The folks there are super nice and I would recommend this to anyone, regardless if they are whiskey/bourbon fans or not.

We had such a great time! Our tour was so informative and we had a great conversation with Lacey, one of the distillers, about what they are doing and how they are different from other area distillers, as well as the more traditional places down in Kentucky. The tasting was delicious....I would recommend the chocolate vodka with some simple syrup added to it. It was ah-mazing. Wishing I had gotten the chipotle vodka and McClure's Bloody Mary mix, but I will just have to check my local liquor store too see if they have it. :-)

Great tour and fun and knowledgeable tour guide. Grand Traverse is definitely my personal favorite distillery in the Traverse City area with some great bourbon and whiskeys. My favorite was the Ole George Single Barrel, had to go home with a bottle!

The Village at Grand Traverse Commons is a sprawling shopping and dining spot with an arboretum and hiking trails. It is known for its high-quality products, beautiful setting, and therapeutic philosophy of Dr. James Decker Munson.
I had been waiting over 15 years to make the trip up and the wait was well worth it! Our guide Vanessa was fabulous! She has a strong bond with the campus and love for the grounds that really came out during the walk! She engaged the group with personal stories, and managed to scare a few along the way in good fun! Listening to how the buildings once were and learning about the kind gestures residents gave helped pull us into that moment in time. The only thing I have to suggest is to inform the group about the living conditions residents at one time endured along with overcrowding and treatments they suffered. Not for shock value but rather for a deep look into the history. I served clients who once lived there, prior to the mid 70s and the list of "treatments" are horrible. Knowing their past what they suffered allowed me to understand their "behaviors " with open eyes and loving heart. Regardless I will be coming back again soon for the photography tour....

We took a tour with Katherine. She was a very informed and engaging tour guide. I learned a lot from her. I would recommend this tour to anyone! My only complaint was it was hard to figure out where to go for the tour. There are no signs at all on the outside of the building and I struggled figuring out where to go. (Signs on the inside are great though)

We greatly enjoyed the 2 hour group tour with Catherine! She was very knowledgeable of the grounds, buildings, and had first-hand stories, as well, with growing up in the nearby area. Added humor to her tour, too. We enjoyed the shops & restaurants - glad to see there are NO chain businesses allowed! Highly suggest visiting this MI gem and going on the tour. After the tour, we drove to the barns & botanical garden areas, too.

So much fun! We visited on a Saturday and had a good time visiting this market. We didn't realize there were tours and things of the asylum but will be planning ahead to book one for our next trip! Was also lovely to try left foot Charlie and Earthen Ales, all within walking distance

The tour guide did a fantastic job! She was thorough and interesting. The tour of the mens cottage and the tunnels were phenomenal. You kinda get the chills as you wonder what living here must have been like. We also caught orbs in pictures in the tunnels. I would 100% recommend this tour!!

There's so much to enjoy about this space, indoors and outdoors. The merchants throughout the grounds offer high quality goods that are unique and sometimes downright one of a kind. The stories of the property told by Joe Kilpatrick, our tour guide, were informative and heartfelt. He's got a personal history with the space that goes back decades (no, not as a patient) and his passion for caring about others comes through in his presentation. If you're in the area and you're looking for something that is unique, give it a whirl. Just the architecture alone is enough to draw you in. The experience will more than likely bring you back.

Unique shops, restaurants, and tons of history. This former site of The Traverse City State Hospital is amazing. We were on a tour of some of the grounds, and learned how this facility took care of mentally ill patients. Very good guide. He actually worked as a volunteer when he was 12 - so his information was authentic.

We recently went on the 90-minute Explorer Tour at Traverse City Commons, and it was absolutely fantastic! Our tour guide, Shawn, was awesome. He was so engaging, funny, and I learned a lot about the area without feeling overwhelmed. It's a must-do if you're in the area!

Love to see old buildings repurposed. Lots of shops and restaurants in the lower levels of the buildings. The grounds are well kept and beautiful too. Would love to return and do the tour to hear the history of the place.

My family and I visited Traverse City over spring break to go to the Great Wolf Lodge. We always love making a trip to The Village. I love how the old hospital has been re-purposed into something positive, and you are bound to find a treasure or two in the little shops there. I highly recommend checking out The Haberdashery for cool and unique items for men.

This is the third time we've done this trip but this time we took our teenage sons. Each time we learn something new. Our boys love history and they loved every minute of the tour. Mr. Kilpatrick was once again an amazing guide. I highly recommend this tour to any history buff who loves the great State of Michigan.

With over eight million bricks to construct one building alone and 100-plus years of history, the Traverse City State Hospital evolved into what it is today, the Village at Grand Traverse Commons. Today, the Village at Grand Traverse Commons offers an array of activities, events, and services such as a highly-recommended historical tour, yoga and pilates, an outdoor farmers market, craft and vendor shows, shopping and fine dining, and so much more. Walk the grounds or the shopping center and view the timeline and descriptive photos of the original State Hospital. It is a fascinating, must-see part of Traverse City.

More than a "tourist attraction," its home to unique shops and products - many featuring local goods. Season farmers markets feature fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, sauces, baked goods and more. Excellent restaurant choices include casual for lunch and upscale Italian for dinner. Note - parking at busy times can be tricky, but we've never failed to find a spot.

Great place to walk around the shops, galleries, restaurants and beautiful grounds. Awesome restaurants, winery and coffee house as well as the surrounding grounds and tours. We rode out bikes here from the airbnb we rented by the bay.
The Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is a beautiful botanical garden and sculpture park located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The attraction contains a collection of sculptures by famous artists such as Jonathan Borofsky, Mark di Suvero, and Nina Akamu. It also features a botanical garden with many different types of plants. This park is a must-see for anyone visiting Grand Rapids!
My husband took me here as a surprise day trip and I was absolutely floored by how amazing this place was! I never seen so many incredibly cool sculptures and artwork and so much historical things and then the best part we hadn't even got to the BEST PART yet which was the butterfly gardens. Butterflies are my most favorite thing in the whole world and it was so jaw dropping, they land on you, they're everywhere! So beautiful!! they're so colorful and amazing! The butterfly House where the butterflies live the best life ever in itself is absolutely breathtaking! Everybody in the world should come visit this place! There's only one negative the line is so so long but that's understandable they do their best to work you through fast so come early.

Honestly always a beautiful place to go for a walk. Excellent area for kids to experience and learn. Little gift shop has some beautiful items. Honestly I could never understand how someone may not like this place. Whether you go by yourself to take pictures or just to clear your mind. Or you're going with a significant other for your entire family and kids. Definitely worth the experience and the money spent. Some may think ticket prices a little high however we fully understand that the ticket price doesn't just pay wages and basic upkeep that it also pays towards donations and contributions to keep this place up and running and growing. You're ever in the area I highly recommend you check this place out.

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is an enchanting destination that offers a perfect harmony of indoor and outdoor beauty. The indoor aspect features a breathtaking butterfly conservatory that is simply stunning. The vibrant colors and delicate fluttering of the butterflies create a captivating experience. On the outdoor front, the park offers scenic views that are equally impressive. From well-manicured gardens to picturesque landscapes, the outdoor aspect of the park is a visual treat. Whether you're exploring the butterfly conservatory or enjoying the serene outdoor scenery, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is a place of unmatched beauty and tranquility.

You can easily spend all day here. There are so many different things to see and experience. There is a wetland area that you can just watch the blue herons, turtles, frogs and other wildlife enjoy. There are sculptures and art galore. Beautiful landscape and flowers everywhere. Such a peaceful serene atmosphere all over that makes it wonderful it just walk through. There is also a kids area that is interactive with splash pad and more.

FM Gardens and Sculpture Park is one of the gems of Michigan (the whole country, really!) I’ve been a member over the years, and they keep making a great place even better. I go there often, to walk amongst the beautiful grounds, and to see the art - they have over 200 sculptures by world-class artists! If you have kids (I took mine when they were little and now bring my granddaughter) there is a special children’s garden full of interactive things to do, as well as an awesome indoor play area. The whole place is a wonderland for children, full of plants and wildlife, including swans and geese and ducks and turtles and frogs in the wetlands boardwalk area. And there is a great cafe, wonderful gift shop, picnic area where you can bring your own food, and plenty of spotlessly clean restrooms :) They also offer many special events, including parties and concerts, and things like the butterflies in the spring and holiday trees from around the world in late fall. If you haven’t been, I recommend it as one of the top things to do in Grand Rapids!

Loved the butterfly exhibit! Very nice place to get out and walk. Sculpture gardens and beautiful Japanese gardens. They also have a restaurant that serves great sandwiches (turkey and curry chicken salad were wonderful). You can also pack a lunch and eat outside if you want. Was not crowded when we went and spent just over three hours. Will definitely come back next time we are in town.

This was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. There is way more to see than the eye let's on. The ticket price of $18 is well worth the amount of park to cover. There is also a great indoor area to explore as well. The park sections are well taken care of and it was a true delight to walk the trails and see wildlife in its natural form. We probably spent more time looking at the frogs, tadpoles, and chipmunks than anything else. There is staff readily available anywhere in the park. The Japanese Gardens is definitely a highlight and a must see.
However, there is not nearly enough shaded areas to take refuge in during hot summer days in some of the outdoor sections. With little cloud cover the particular Sunday I went, it was too much to continue on and finish the park.
The park recommends giving yourself at least 2 hours, but honestly, you should plan for 3 or 4 if you like to stop and observe. It's a great way to spend a large portion of your day.

What a fun way to spend the afternoon! There's lots to see.. so many pretty plants & trees along the many pathways. They have a neat children's play area. Make sure to bring drinking water!! It's a long walk, but we seen everything within 2 hours.. if you're wanting to move slower and take your time you could easily spend all day here tho. The greenhouse was really neat, lots of tropical plants & trees.. the cactus room is amazing also! As for the art.. well it's was ok. I'm not big into art so most of it didn't impress me. A few that were neat tho was the giant horse, arch, and electricity one(pictured)

A rather wonderful space for the community, and travelers alike. The grounds are expansive with meandering trails both shaded and open. The gardens, landscape and hot house vignettes are enjoyable, but lack emphasis on botanical diversity and content. Dominant use of hybrids and ordinary nursery stock used creatively to provide aesthetic balance.
There are a lot of sculptures, large and small. The diversity of styles is impressive and each provide a plaque to note artist and title while leaving the interpretation to the viewer. The amphitheatre is beautiful and offers a unique space to partake in cultural performances. It is the very reason I had the pleasure of visiting this venue, being on tour with a music concert.
Absolutely all the staff and volunteers, from every department and level of position are friendly, helpful and accommodating. There is tram service that tours the grounds for those that want or need a way to see everything. An on-site cafe offers uncomplicated yet fresh food for a variety of dietary needs and tastes, with options for indoor and outdoor seating. If you're visiting with children you will not be alone, there are a variety of spaces geared to offer safe and entertaining areas for the young ones. Generally speaking the venue is large enough that those desiring more peaceful contemplation of their surroundings will not feel neglected.

When I lived in the area we visited frequently and had annual passes. We enjoyed the butterflies in the spring and the train ride at Christmas. In between we never tired of the standing exhibits or special exhibits. Back in the day we could see The Thinker. Today you can see Eve and of course, The American Horse which is an epic sculpture.
You'll find the Children's Garden to be charming at any age. You'll be entranced by the Japanese Garden. Other areas you don't want to miss are Michigan's Farm Garden and Sculpture Park. There are also exhibits indoors.
If you want to see everything, allow 4-5 hours. It's best though to become a member and return regularly. Plan a trip with a book or a camera and sit in the many well positioned areas to enjoy beauty and tranquility.
Also, check frequently for special events including outdoor concerts in the spectacular amphitheater.
Below please enjoy some photos below. It's not a complete tour so you'll want to go yourself.
Pricing hasn't changed in years so it's still very reasonable.
Almost everything is completely accessible except for a few small trails. There is a mobility center with some wheelchairs and scooters (first cone first serve). There is a tram that is narrated if you prefer not to walk.
There are some designated picnic areas and some eating options though I didn't see these personally.
Parking is plentiful.
No smoking.
The signage maps are plentiful and strategically placed. The guest guide provided with your ticket is very helpful .
Adult ticket is $20; seniors $15.

It was really cool to see international sculptures in grand rapids. I've personally never been to a sculpture garden but it's cool to listen to everyone's interpretation of what they think the sculpture represents if the artist won't tell you. Sometimes the artists actually visit the gardens which is really cool to hear what they have to say about their own work. The Japanese garden was may favorite, probably because of my affinity for Japanese culture and art. They have a tea house in which they actually do tea ceremonies there every once in a while, but you have to reserve a spot for yourself if you want to experience that. There are plenty of different types of flora and lots of ponds and waterfalls. A very nice place to forget all of your issues and just relax. When I went it was like 90° F so I was focusing more on not being dehydrated but I did take some time to sit on a bench in the shade and just reflect. The art is very abstract if you're into that. Plus the visitor center is air-conditioned so it feels nice to go in after being in the hot sun.

This garden is absolutely stunning and worth every penny. The entire garden is perfectly kept and you could easily spend your entire day here. Not only is it nice to look at and explore it's a great place for photos. The garden is kid friendly and has tons of activities to keep busy. There's easy access to many bathrooms spread about the garden and lots of drinking fountains and places to recycle or throw items away. There's places to eat snacks from home or eating from their personal Cafe. Overall i enjoyed every second of being here and would highly recommend going.

WOW!!😯😍 Such an amazingly beautiful and awesome place!! We spent 4hours walking through most of the inside and we ate lunch there too. It was raining outside, and this was a perfect place to go on a rainy day. BUT we have to go back to walk through all of the outside. I did walk outside to see a couple fountains real quick, but there is SO much more that I want to see. They have very detailed and handy maps that you can get from staff. You can take a tram tour through most of the outside gardens. This place is just unbelievable, and sooo worth the price. If I lived near by, I'd get a membership forsure. The cafe is amazing too, and has so many neat options to choose from.

An amazing and beautiful place to visit in West Michigan. Highly recommend doing the 45 minute tram tour to view many of the sculptures on the grounds with narration. We spent over an hour in the Japanese Garden and it is the most amazing spot in the park. The children's garden area is fun and has a really cool tree fort. You need all day to even try and see everything. We spent 3 hours there and did the tram, Japanese Garden and Children's Garden.

The sculpture park is a highlight of this establishment, featuring an impressive collection of outdoor sculptures from renowned artists. As you stroll through the gardens, you’ll encounter striking sculptures set against lush landscapes, creating a harmonious interplay between art and nature. The pieces range from classical to contemporary, ensuring there’s something for everyone to appreciate.
The botanical gardens within the park are equally captivating. They showcase an array of plants, including tropical, arid, and seasonal displays, making it a year-round destination. The conservatory is a real gem, housing a diverse collection of exotic plants and seasonal flower displays. It’s an ideal place to escape the cold Michigan winters.
The children’s Garden is a fantastic space filled with interactive exhibits and activities, making it both fun and educational for kids. Educational programs and events are often hosted here, making it a valuable resource for learning about horticulture and art.

Michigan's Adventure is a local amusement park that offers a wooden roller coaster, seasonal water park, and various other rides. However, the size of the park and the number of rides available may be disappointing for some visitors. The food stands were not set up during a weekend visit, and many of the rides are old. As an amusement park related to Cedar Point, it was expected to have more and newer rides.
Make sure you have ordered tickets ahead of time. We had a great time!! Lots for all to do :) We went with season passes this year... it pays for parking($25 without the pass). The water park closes earlier than the rest of the park.

Fun place to spend the day for all ages. Great range of rides from big thrills to nice slow motion and lots for the little ones too. Full size water park included. You really need more than one day to experience everything. The lines are not as long as I expected. The longest we had to wait for a ride was 30 minutes most were less. Food was the biggest disappointment of course overpriced but half shops were closed the ones that were open didn't have all of the items on their menu and the service was the worst I have seen.

Nice amusement park. We came for three days and found enough to do each day, which was nice. Definitely not as big as some of the other parks. If you plan on going more than once, a Gold pass is worth it, because you also get free parking. If you plan on going to other Cedar Fair parks, the All Parks pass add on is definitely worth it!!

My family had a good time. Was not super impressed with the size of the park or the amount of rides down and food stands not set up during our visit on a weekend. Considering this is an amusement park that is related with Cedar Point, I assumed it would have a lot more rides and nicer rides as well. Most rides are very old and the entire park isn't near as big as Cedar Point. Disappointed. Went to the water park and had fun in the kid area, but again a lot was not working. Also too many people inside the park during covid. The wave pool was slammed full of people everywhere.

This place was wall to wall people! They ran out of chairs, life vests, and tubes, at the water park. The design of this place was very confusing and there are no signs to point you in the right direction to get where your going. Especially trying to navigate to the exit of the park. Nothing is marked! The website told us the hours were 12-6, the lady at the gate said 12-7 but in fact the park didn’t close until 8. It was very confusing, so was the pricing. Online it said admission was $39.99 but in fact it was $50 for anyone 3 and up. I didn’t see any capacity limits anywhere posted here, and it was obvious they weren’t enforcing them anyway. We went on a Sunday, maybe going on a weekday would be less crowded. I hope the park gets their act together, train these employees to have the correct pricing and hours information and change the website to match what’s posted at the park so people can plan their visit correctly. The pictures I posted from inside the park were at 6 pm at the water park (closing) and 8 pm in camp snoopy on the way out of the park.

I took my son (10), nephew (7), niece (12), and brother to Michigan Adventure “Trick and Treats.” I think for the age group and what rides were running 12-6 is enough time to do whatever you want. My disappointment was in the restaurants or eateries. Coasters was good and was running great. Midway Munchies ice cream machine was not turned on so there was no ice cream there. Ended up getting nachos and the nacho cheese was “old” looking cheese. That disappointed me. Wildcat Grill was good. I was disappointed that the “boo-ffet” was not included with the premium dining plan. With the purchase it should include really any or all dining options.

We had a lot of fun here today. Riding rides and walking around. This park does not accept cash so be sure to have your cards. Food prices are high and mainly pizza, ice cream, hamburger and hotdogs. You cannot bring in a cooler you have to leave it in the car. We got there early and lines were not that long but as the day went on the wait could be an hour or more. The rides seemed to be well maintained and the staff were friendly and helpful. One last thing at the time of this review parking is $25 for regular size vehicles.

Had a great time with my family of 5. Kids are 15, 8, 7. This is a great place for the younger kids. Wish it was open later so we could ride some rides and see the lights. Also wish the Waterpark was open later. I guess that's why people buy 2 day passes and season passes. We will be looking into that for the next time. Overall very clean, family friendly park. Ate the buffet it was delicious. Great souvenir prices and options. Haven't been here in many years and the addition of camp snoopy is great!!

Went on a Wednesday in early June with a 3 and 9 year old and spent 6 hours in the amusement park busy the whole time! We were concerned because the water park was closed the 2 days prior to our visit because of weather. Though it was open for our visit, we didn't have time to hit it.
When the 3 year old is a bit older we will likely buy season passes- as soon as you go twice, it makes the season tickets worth the price. Go a whole day just for the water park and another just for the coasters.
There was plenty to do for us all for several hours. Early June felt like it wasn't as busy as it could've been and we didn't need to use fast passes. Long walk but the toddler really enjoyed her rented stroller and snoopy camp. The 9 year old loved trying all of the roller coasters for the first time.
The staff were ALL wonderful.

I work here, I recommend coming on a weekday, sometime near the middle of the week such as a Wednesday, as practically every ride will be a walk on with no line, including shivering timbers.
Shivering Timbers is the best run ride as it's got 2 trains, while mad mouse is the slowest ran ride, usually having the longest line in the whole park. For Zach's zoomer, come near the middle of the day (1-3PM) for no line.
This park is REALLY overdue for a new roller coaster soon, they've got like 100 acres of unused land sitting in the back that could be used!

Michigan’s Adventure is a nicely kept park with various rides with a variety of thrills. You do walk through security and the staff there was very pleasant. We purchased our tickets online for a good deal on weekdays and it was very easy to enter the park by scanning from my mobile device. We brought our wagon with us for our toddler and swim gear. Our son was able to ride most rides with an accompanied parent and was able to ride some rides on his own. The staff were young adults and they adhered to height safety protocols. We spent majority of our time at the water park in the little tyke area which was good fun for our son. They have life vests available for young swimmers but we brought our own. There was a confusion at the icee vendors when I wanted to purchase a regular cup (not souvenir); I was passed between 2 locations due to staffing/miscommunication with no resolution so I chose something else. Overall we had a wonderful time!

This park is a cute little park but there’s not much to do. There aren’t many options for younger kids nor thrill seekers. I guess if you’re right in the middle it might be great for you. We’d rather make a little longer drive to Cedar Point where they have at least 4x the amount of rides for little kids and much more for bigger ones who enjoy rollercoasters.
Melanie Roberts — Google review
Great place for kids to ride their first rollercoasters. It is a good amount of ride for a family outing but not as many thrills for older teens or adults. That said, everything they do have is great. My 6 year old was tall enough for all rides but one which is better than most amusement parks that leave out the younger kids.
We went during the week to avoid longer lines.
The only thing that would make it better is cheaper food prices and conveyer belts that bring the large tubes to the top of the water slides.

Pretty good time! Buy the fast pass! Buy your parking ticket online! Veteran discount is awesome! Few slides still closed most of the day. Obviously still short staffed. No one cleaning around the water park trash everywhere. Several drink stations also not open.
The Gerald Ford Presidential Museum tells the story of Gerald Ford, 38th president of the United States, and his wife. The museum has exhibits about their lives and presidency, as well as rotating exhibits that focus on American history.
I'm in town on a business trip and made a point to free up an hour to visit the Museum, and in glad I did! They just reopened yesterday and the staff were so excited to have visitors return! The Cabinet Room, Oval Office, and Assassination Attempt Gun were the highlights! I even was able to pay my respects at the tombs of the President and First Lady on the grounds. I am so glad I visited - and an hour was just the right amount of time!

This presidential museum is detailed and well done. There is often a temporary exhibit which makes visiting even more worthwhile. Located across the street from the GR Public Museum and right on the river. There is free parking available, as well as walking paths and a pedestrian bridge if you want to cross the river and explore downtown. Museum is very quiet, clean, and the staff is helpful. Gift shop is small but there are many custom and fun items.

Nice museum highlighting Ford’s Childhood College days and his work in Congress. There is a great replica of the Oval Office and Cabinet Room . You are allowed to go into the Cabinet room and take a seat around the table. President Ford and Betty are buried on the grounds outside the Museum.

Highly recommended presidential library. Inexpensive, beautifully maintained, and interesting architecture. It's not overwhelmingly large. Plus, the videos and 70's artifacts are fascinating. Loved the exact replica of the oval office and the cabinet board room!

The Gerald Ford Presidential Museum is a fitting testimonial to America’s only unintentional President. Living proof we live in a country of laws and not men. How great to have the museum in the hometown. Great exhibits and interactive presentations.

Very nice architecture and ground. Interesting exhibits. Defiantly recommend you see the Sistine Chapel temp exhibit!! Gerald R. Ford seems like a real stand-up man. It was nice to find out more about him.

What a wonderful experience. I didn't pay much attention to President Ford's contributions when he was in office. I learned a lot about both his and the First Lady's contributions. Truly remarkable.

Loved, “A heartbeat away: The American Vice-Presidency, currently at the museum. Learn all about our 38th President and how he made some decisions that saved our Republic. Very interactive. See the Berlin Wall, the Oval Office, and the Cabinet Room. The Betty Ford exhibit shares the story of her accomplishments & how she made a difference. From her work on Equal Rights for Women to her passion around those in need, and formation of Betty Ford Clinic. I enjoyed the bicentennial exhibit. Stop in at the museum gift shop!

The museum was decent; it was well maintained, it had some interesting history and information not only about former President Gerald Ford but also several pivotal moment of his presidency.
The biggest problem is with the man himself, I personally didn't find him that fascinating of a president and his tenure was largely short and unnoteworthy aside from his near-disastrous pardoning of Richard Nixon.
Still the museum and staff were great and the recreations of the Oval office and other presentations are immersive and faithfully recreated.

Wow, what a great piece of American history here. There is lots of fascinating memorabilia and interactive features. While Ford may not have been the most influencial president, he did preside over some of the most influencial times in US history. Great place to take the kids, or just learn some more about American history for all ages.

Very well laid out museum, following the life of our most unique (to date) president. I was very impressed by the displays, information and the Oval Office recreation. The staff was kind, helpful and very welcoming. I went there at the end of the day and was the only visitor - what a special visit as it was my first time to any presidential museum. Thank you everyone for making my visit there a GRAND one!

This was my first presidential museum. It was a great experience. I learned a great deal about Ford and his presidency. My favorite exhibit was the replica of the Oval Office. I also appreciate Jared the last exhibit about Ford’s funeral, and hearing all the tributes.

The only Presidential museum in Michigan, and what an amazing adventure!
As we entered the parking area,we didn't have any trouble finding a place to park. Nicely landscaped, situated on the banks of the Grand River.
The entrance fees are very reasonable starting at 12.00 general, 10.00 for Sr, 6 - 18yr
6.00.
There are 3 exhibits to view at this time: 1976 Presidential Election, A Heartbeat Away ,
The American Vice Presidecy, and Exploring Watergate.
Took over 3.5 hours to walk through and was very educational.

Amazing place to spend a few hours with the family to soak up some history. We learned more at our visit to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library than we thought was possible. My entire family enjoyed our time here with exhibits that are both educational and entertaining. I would put this location on your list of things to do in Grand Rapids.

Phenomenal experience. Loved the various informative videos with opportunities to sit and watch. Many many displays well explained by plaques. It has an oval office replica from his time as well as the room known as the cabinet. I highly recommend this place

Beautiful location, great information. The information on Betty Ford and her contributions nearly overshadow her husband. The VP exhibit was very informative.

The museum has a simple layout but offers alot of details about Gerald Ford's presidency. The second floor walks you through a life of service starting from Ford's early years as an Eagle scout, his college years, his service as a Naval Officer, congressman, Vice President, and finally his presidency. You can appreciate his many years of service, despite his short lived presidency. I recommend visiting this museum especially for history lovers.

Even though I lived thru this period it was great to review it again. We've come so far and Ford did much to heal our nation.
The exhibit about the other Vice Presidents was amazing history. Too often, if not always, the Veep was only a footnote on our memory.
This is our fifth presidential library/museum. It's amazing the lack of recent history we were never taught in school that has so much bearing on the world we live in today.

Great place to learn about the life and legacy of former President Ford. There is free parking on-sight. When I went, it wasn't crowded therefore no wait to get in and no need to purchase tickets in advance. There's a canal just outside with benches. Nice place to sit and think.
The Grand Rapids Public Museum is a large museum with exhibits on history, science, and culture. It has a 1928 carousel as well as an exhibit about the natural habitats in West Michigan.
The public museum is a great place for families to go and learn but have fun at the same time! The exhibits are great and educational, the workers are nice, they even complimented me on my shirt, and it has an overall nice atmosphere! I recommend!

Very beautiful museum with interesting topics. i truly enjoyed my visit. It’s a 3 floors building so make sure you have enough time to check out all of it. I spent like 4 hours. Entrance ticket is 12$ for adults. Maybe it’ll be less if u live in the area but I don’t.

Not too pricy for how big it is and how much you get to see! Took us about 2 hours to walk through the whole place!! The exhibits were done really well, loved the printing press in the old town walk-through!!

Had a wonderful visit up until the end when museum staff singled out our family to keep reminding us it was closing time. Several other families continued farther into the museum while she followed us and anytime we stopped to glance at an exhibit she would remind us how long we had until closing time. The planetarium Pink Floyd light show was very cool. However, we are planning another visit and hopefully will not run into same staff.

My 10 y.o. old son and an awesome time going here. It was perfect for a small adventure to a place we have never been to before. There are 3 floors full of exhibits. Some exhibits do change a couple times per year. Right now is "The power of Poison" exhibit. It was all super cool. Definitely recommend if you need something fun and educational to do for an afternoon. The only downside is parking. I paid almost $20 bucks to park for 4 hours in the designated parking ramp for the museum, which was more than our tickets combined. But still, overall worth it.

If you're looking for a unique and classy wedding venue that screams "Grand Rapids" the museum is THE place! I've had the joy of photographing here many times, and I discover something new every time! Where else can you say "I do" under the stars, and then have your first dance under a whale?? They offer multiple ceremony options to fit your vision, including the option for a planetarium wedding! The main floor is the perfect for any size reception. The outdoor space all around the museum is always beautiful, and it’s right next to the Blue Bridge – another iconic Grand Rapids must-have! Plus you can’t visit the museum without riding the carousel! Who says you can’t have a little fun on your wedding day?

This place was fantastic, my kids really loved it. I didn't think my teenage boys were gonna enjoy it but we were all pleasantly surprised! They have stuff for any and all ages as well as many different things to engage all different types of interests.

We had a great time visiting all of the exhibits. Lots of things are interactive and keep you interested. Our favorite part was definitely the Streets of Old Grand Rapids exhibit. It was just like walking through an old town! Lots of detail and effort went into the exhibit, and it definitely showed. The only thing we weren’t able to check out was the historic carousel. The carousel was unfortunately closed when we visited. Overall it was a wonderful experience!

Our kids loved the museum been years since we have went but took our neice and nephew. They had some great time with interactive exhibits the old Grand Rapids street with shops never thought I would see an Arcade in a museum as an exhibit makes me feel old but definitely fun to watch the kids play our favorite games. Still glade to see the whale skeleton and airplane hanging from the ceiling, there's a lot going on in the public museum it's a gem of Grand Rapids for sure. If your on vacation with little kids I'm sure they will enjoy it as much as we did.

I received a aenior citizen discount and parking validation at the parking ramp because I am a Kent County resident. Nice bonus. In the museum the city street is always interesting to see. There were "pharmacist" in the apothecary to explain what we were seeing. We viewed nearly all displays. We didn't ride but watched the carousel. The staff did a great job explaining how to board and ride safely. The planetarium and carousel requires an additional fee but all fees were affordable.
Take quarters with you to play the classic video games!!
I like to go every couple of years as the displays are always changing.

Loved walking around the museum and getting a self guided history lesson on all the unique things the building holds. I couldn't help but wonder what might could be added to the museum in the next 100 years. Where will the world be and how far will the world have gone by then, and if earth will still be the only planet we as humans reside on... or not....???

This spot is an absolute blast, offering an engaging journey into the rich history of Grand Rapids and Michigan. We got lost exploring the captivating bug exhibit, although I heard it's closing in February, so catch it while you can! The staff at the front desk were incredibly friendly and helpful upon our arrival. With three expansive levels to explore, be prepared for an abundance of fascinating exhibits. It's not just for kids – adults can have a great time here too. Definitely worth a visit!

Second time here. A fun museum for a low cost. Plenty of fun exhibits for young and old alike. Food selection a bit slim. Appears they are expanding due to outside construction. Will be intriguing to see how they evolve

Always an awesome experience, and it was beautifully decorated for Christmas 🎄🎁 I have always loved going here since I was a kid. I decided to take my nephew to see the bug exhibit and he had an amazing time. The only negative I can say is the person we experienced at the cash register in the cafe had no personality and was quite unwelcoming.
Brittney VanDeLaare — Google review
I was afraid there wouldn't be enough for my grandkids, 2 and 4 years old, to do here, but after 3 hours, they begged to stay longer. The builder exhibit was a huge hit, and although the bug exhibit was a little scary for the 2 year old, there were parts that were fun for her, too. They also loved the habitat and animal exhibits. What a GR treasure!
John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids is a zoo home to animals from all over the world. Visitors can feed spider monkeys, bears, penguins, and pelicans in close quarters and learn about their daily routines. The zoo also features activities such as ziplining or riding camels.
We're in the area currently for a concert and needed some time to kill before checking into our hotel, so we stumbled across this zoo. And I will say, it's really nice! Spacious enclosures for the animals, nice graphics that talk about the animals, facts about how endangered they are. The aquarium was really cool, and the penguin habitat was great. They seemed really happy.
The animals appeared to be healthy and well cared for. They have a petting zoo as well, which was fun to do.
Because of the time of year, only a few places to eat were open, and the one place we went to had a pretty long wait (like 20ish minutes). But the food was decent, normal zoo food.
Really enjoyed going here. The price of admission wasn't insane either. Would love to come back in the summer when more animals are out.

A really great zoo! We loved the trees and winding paths. It feels very natural, unlike some zoos which are too open with the sun beating down on the animals. We went to a wedding there and got to explore the zoo, and it was the best wedding experience I've ever had! Highly recommend visiting, but if you've got an event coming up it's worth checking out for the great venue!

I went in with the expectation that it would be a fairly typical zoo layout and experience but I was pleasantly surprised. The zoo has a very vertical component to the land and is incorporated well into the surrounding trees and hillside. The types of animals is pretty standard but the hippo was nice to see. Staff were numerous and friendly with info on the surrounding exhibits. Great for the whole family.

I will definitely have to go back during the day sometime, to check out the animals, but this time we went for the lantern festival. It was absolutely awesome, and worth going to! It was such a perfect time, and I took sooo many pictures. I loved every moment, and every theme!

Lions, tigers, and bears... Literally. Great zoo for the price. It has a unique layout due to being built into a hillside. You get several vantage points of different animals because of this. It's also a great place to watch a variety of animals nap 😉 definitely worth checking out if you're visiting the area. Soon it will also have koalas! Go already

What an amazing zoo!!!
So much to see and do. The "extras" are definitely worth it. Never been to a zoo on a forest foothill before. Worth every penny. Lots of shaded areas. Enclosures for the animals were great...lots of room for them and enrichment. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area.

Came for the lantern festival so can’t speak for the full zoo but had a great time. Layout was great and the event was spectacular. Showed up just before dark and liked it so much that we did a second loop once it was completely dark. Got a chance to see the eagles and snowy owls too. Would definitely come back for this event but would love to check out the zoo again in the daytime.

When we visited, the cable car ride that takes you up was closed for the season. I recommend taking the walking route up to the station up and then visiting the enclosures on by one on your way down. To do this, when you enter, go in the following order: Aquarium -> Kangaroo/Walaby -> Petting zoo -> Follow waterfall route right up to the train station. There are multiple snack stalls along the way.
It's a long walk without any enclosures but worth the effort. The route is stroller friendly. If you have little ones with you, I recommend renting the strollers at the entrance.
I like that all the big enclosures such as the lion, tiger, chimpanzees have multiple viewing locations.
Due to choices in paths, you are likely to miss: Natural treasure (lots of snakes n lizards), chimpanzee sleeping room, second tiger enclosure, bear and the snow leopard. Backtrack to them if you want to cover all enclosures.

We went for the lantern Festival and it was everything we expected and more. It was a lot more I thought maybe half the zoo but it was so much. All the lights and the music and the interactive things, it was wonderful! It was great seeing people of all ages enjoying!
Tanya “MISunflower” May — Google review
Very nice, clean zoo. Small but a nice assortment of animals, some I've never seen before in person. The enclosures were spacious for each animal, I like that. I also liked that the signs told the stories of some of the animals including how/why they were in a zoo. My favorites were the eagles (bald and 2 golden), the grizzlies, and the reptiles/amphibians. Didn't get to see some animals because of the heat, but that's pretty normal in a zoo. Would have loved to see the snow leopards and somehow we missed the red pandas. There were some beautiful Lego displays of animals throughout the park, mostly at the entrance, that were fascinating.
Katie Gent — Google review
A decent zoo - neat how it is kind of on the side of the hill. I recommend taking the little 5 minute tram up to the top and coming down from there. All the birds are put away for bird flu and there is a ton of construction going on so eventually the zoo will be really nice with the exhibits all finished. The good is a little pricey and it costs extra to do all the things like the ropes course, zip line and tram, but it's not horribly outrageous. Some very cool sculptures and the waterfall is cool.

Attended Lantern Festival last week on Thursday, well organized event, love the way the path works with the trees. With it being a hot early June day the animals were more active in the evening. The staff was friendly and always looking to help. The entrance fee for the event was $22 and there was time slots with plenty of flexibility. The parking was free which was a wonderful perk.

John Ball Zoo is a nice attraction. I've been to several zoos in Michigan. Was very disappointed that the website didn't note that it is an incline to walk to the top of the park and my parents are in their mid 70s. The Funicular takes you to the top so you can walk down instead of up, but of course it was closed. Some exhibits were great, and some were just meh. Most exhibits had a zookeeper available to answer questions and they were very informative. There were some dead fish in the aquarium which was upsetting to my daughter.
All in all I would recommend it for a family day trip. It's what you would expect from a zoo in my opinion.

This was a great zoo to visit while passing through town. It was the perfect size and we covered everything in about 2 hours (yes, we obviously could have stayed longer, and we didn't spend too long at anyone spot, but we did get to see everything). The funicular was not operating the day we visited, but I don't think that detracted from our experience. The animals have nice enclosures, especially the tigers and lions.

Must say this was a really cool zoo... I loved that it wasn't to big, but also not to small. Was so happy with the exhibits they covered more than I could have hoped for, from the lions to the turtles. Make sure you stop by the parakeet area where you can feed them on your hand. Also the 🦘 was really cool as well. Was one of my favorite zoos in the area

Lantern Festival. It was an incredible display throughout the zoo. No animals were out at night. Entry to the festival was timed. You need to buy your tickets in advance. This is a worth the drive experience.

To start, the 5-star rating is actually for the Lantern Festival which is held at the zoo, not the zoo itself. I've never been to the John Ball Zoo before this, and I haven't seen the animals (the living ones). Instead, I went to their Lantern Festival, and the lantern animals were pretty great. Plus, I really like the layout of the zoo (built into a hill), which makes for a much more intersting walk than the zoo in my city. If you haven't had a chance to check out the Lantern Festival, I'd recommend it before it wraps up in June. Definitely a good way to spend an evening out with a significant other, the family, or if you just want something fun to look at while you take a walk. I had a great time with my DSLR trying to get pictures to showcase some of the lanterns that are there.

The Lantern Festival is what originally drew me to the zoo. We went during the day to experience the animals. However due to the season a lot of the exhibits were empty. We can back in the evening for the festival and it was top notch. I would absolutely recommend going at least once. The zoo overall was maintained fairly well. Had a great experience.

Muskegon State Park encompasses a vast 1,000 acres of natural beauty, showcasing rare coastal plain marshes, dunes and woodlands. In addition to walking the scenic trails on offer, the park also boasts exciting winter and summer activities such as zip lining and luge runs. The staff at Muskegon State Park are exceptional in their speed, accuracy and commitment to safety while making all participants feel welcome regardless of their abilities or age.
The beach is beautiful and has several parking areas. There are also dune trails you can hike in the area, but need good hiking/walking shoes for those as there is underbrush in areas that could be dangerous with bare feet. If you head north along the scenic drive there are beautiful lookouts to pull off at and other smaller parks along the way. Overall a great area to explore and a great day trip!

We went to the zip line on New Year’s Eve afternoon. They have one long zip line. The people there were amazing!! They were fast, accurate, and made everyone feel safe! There was a handicapped 12 year old there in our group of 16. They made his special day even better!! The staff was so accommodating and friendly to all! Bystanders and participants alike. Not too many zip lines in the area. They have other winter and summer activities at the park as well. We have walked the trails there in the past. One of these days I will try the Luge run there! Looks fun!!! Definitely recommend Muskegon State Park based on the friendliness of the staff alone! Very professional!!

I took my child here to watch the sunset. Which was absolutely amazing. We parked by one of the free "grab a bag" stations for "dog waste". Unfortunately, some visitors decided they needed to leave their trash in that exact spot. Typically the park is immaculate and very well kept. It is so unfortunate that some people feel the need to trash such beautiful places that we have access to like this. So many people enjoy visiting our local beaches and to see trash all over, is absolutely disappointing. Not only for visitors but for the wildlife as well. I give the park 5 stars as this is such a beautiful and amazing place to go. But we need to do better as humans and the community, at keeping our beaches and dunes clean and free of trash like this.
Other than stuff like this trash, caused by uncaring people, this park is a great place to visit! I have lived here my whole life and couldn't count the number of times I have been down here. I will continue to visit as long as I am able. We highly recommend this spot for your all of your beach therapy needs and to view an amazing sunset!

The camp sites are wonderfully large and always cool under the trees. My son loved wandering through the trees and playing with the other kids in the campground.
The rest rooms are large and clean, and the showers have pretty good pressure. And the building doesn't stand out and ruin the feel of the place. And the lake is literally right on the other side of the dunes. You can easily walk to them from almost anywhere in the campground.
The only reason it's four stars, not five is because we travel in our camper trailer, and there are no water hook ups. The sites are not the easiest to get the camper into, so once it's settled you really don't want to move it. If you don't mind running to the public tap to bring back water this campground is almost perfect.

The USS SILVERSIDES Submarine Museum is an expansive facility that showcases naval history, particularly from World War II on both the Pacific and European fronts. The museum offers tours of a preserved WWII sub and interesting exhibits, including nurse recruitment posters and other contributions from women. In addition to informative videos about the sub, the museum boasts a wide selection of souvenirs in its shop.
A good museum with a great overnight experience. Interesting exhibits from World War II on both the Pacific and European fronts. I enjoyed seeing the nurse recruitment posters and other contributions from women. The videos about the sub provided a good description of what we would see below. Good selection of souvenirs in the shop. I highly recommend visiting with scout troops. Our girl scouts loved it.

What a great museum! I was a nuclear fast attack submariner in the 90s, and it was amazing to walk through a real WWII diesel boat.
The museum itself is worth the price of admission. It does a great job of walking you through the events that lead to the attack on Dec 7 at Pearl Harbor. It then guides you through the challenges these heroes had to face.
There is a display on a POW's experience. This was really moving. Powerful.
A huge bonus was the diving station from a 688 class sub. This was authentic and identical to what we had on both boats I served on. It was special being able to sit in that chair. It wasn't a station that I qualified on, but it definitely brought me back to being 20 and underway in the Pacific outside Pearl.
And that leads us to the Silversides. Wow. It reminded me of visiting the Colusseum in Rome. You can feel the fear, the stress, the triumphs and the terror of the hunt leaking out of the bulkheads. If those walls could talk.
I have SO MUCH respect for the men who went to war in those cramped, smelly, tiny boats with unreliable torpedoes against such a dangerous opponent.
It makes it so real, walking by the wardroom, seeing the control room, the bunk room, engine rooms and especially the torpedo rooms. Every valve matters. Every item there is there to keep the ocean from killing the men and letting them go bring the fight to the Japanese.
Take your time here. Expect to spend 2-3+ hours here. Take time to read the displays. Especially watch the video walk through in the theater, and absolutely take your time in the boat. Listen to what these men did, how they lived and reflect on the sacrifices they made.
Read about the casualty rates on boats. Give a prayer for those on eternal patrol, and reflect on the freedoms that these men brought to the world.

Far exceeded my expectations. Good historical background of WWII in the main building, with some amazing facts I did not know about. Also some good info on the local contributions to the war effort. The submarine itself was incredible to see, with the cramped quarters, watertight sections, the engines, motors, batteries, radio systems. It's still a huge boat, almost unimaginable that this thing could dive on demand and stay under for 15 hours before surfacing. Even the toilets were quite a feat of engineering. A great illustration of the incredible industrial might the USA developed in such a short time to ensure victory. Made me proud to see this knowing that my Father was a radar man in the Pacific theater on a ship.

I stayed overnight on the sub with my son for a cub scout outing and I had a blast. The staff was very helpful and informative and kindly accommodated the overnight stay with late and early hours in the museum and gift shop. The sun itself was fascinating to see and really made you appreciate the sacrifice made by all who served on them.

Great place to taking young kids to learn the history of WW II and military history!
We only take a quick look of what is displayed on the outside of the museum due to the shortage of time we have!
We will be sure to come back for a full tour because it is very interesting place!

Go watch the video in the museum first before going out to the Silversides as it will tell you a lot more then what is visually in the sub. The submarine was definitely the highlight! The cutter was as to be expected (they really hype the Silversides instead of the McLane). Getting through the sub can be quite tight in some places (obvs), so if you can't bend/stretch your legs over knee height, I would stick to the museum. We spent about 3 hours on site (there are quite a few things to look/watch in the museum building).

USS Silversides Submarine Museum
Interesting museum. We were in the area in 2016 and decided to see this place. Not advertised too well. Nevertheless, a monument to the men who sacrificed their lives.

Wonderful to have 2 historic ships available for self guided tours. Silversides is well maintained and well signed. Great History. Cutter is very interesting but could use a bit more info. A great value for a few dollars.

This is a great place to visit. If you want to know anything about our history, check the submarine exhibit. You get to tour the submarine and see how the men lived and fought for our country. This is one of the best museums I've seen. If I could give more stars, I would.

The walk through sub and cutter were really neat. Other exhibits I've been to have everything behind glass or roped off, but these let you get up close and personal. My kids loved trying out the small, crowded bunks, climbing ladders, and sitting on the toilets! I loved all the interesting facts posted throughout. We learned a lot, took a lot of great pictures, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

This was one of my families' favorite museums as of yet! It was really organized. It had a LOT of history information and was such a cool experience. We enjoyed the museum and then the video tour. It made it feel like we had a personal tour guide when we walked through, even though our tour was self guided. I recommend that everyone should check out this place.

What an incredible experience and to be able to share in some amazing history! Absolutely loved this place and it's a great family friendly activity.
As with almost all my reviews, it's the staff who make or break the customer service experience. Here I had the pleasure of interacting with some of the kindest, friendly and informative people I'd ever had the good fortune to meet.
If you are fortunate enough to find yourself in Michigan, this is a place you should definitely visit! Loved it and I highly recommend it!

Friendly staff, nice gift shop, plenty of parking, at least in March.
Glad we decided to visit.

A museum that let's you experience the cramped conditions of a WW2 submarine that is virtually unchanged since its service over 80 years ago, the Silversides museum is a place to learn about the history of the most successful U.S. submarine still in existence. The boat itself is well preserved with the ability to tour the boat stem to stern from the forward torpedo room to the aft torpedo room. The museum itself has lots of information about the history of the Silversides and the great lake's part in WW2. When I visited they also had a piece of the World Trade Center and an exhibit about 9/11.

Lot of stuff you can learn from in the museum and the submarine was amazing to walk through and see how they lived in there.
The Grand Haven Musical Fountain is a popular tourist attraction that was constructed in 1962. It showcases synchronized water, light and music shows every night at 9:30 pm, featuring a variety of musical genres such as pop, big band and country. The colorful fountains are a captivating sight to watch and there are special shows lined up for visitors throughout the year. The fountain is situated on the waterfront and offers great entertainment for families.
Forth of July is now a memory but so needed during the winter months. July will be back soon. This is such a great family fun to watch the musical fountains. Will definitely visit again.

The singing fountain is now over 60 yrs old. Recently refurbished, the shows run 7 days a week thru the summer, starting about 20 minutes after sunset. Every single performance is different. All types of music are used, classic, rock, jazz, country, classic rock, folk, show tunes, etc. Each show lasts about 30 to 40 minutes and is free! Also, Grand Haven is home to the Coast Guard headquarters for the Great Lakes

Lovely and gentle fountain attraction in Grand Haven. As UK visitors, we attended on Memorial day, by pure chance. The evening was lovely, patriotic and enjoyably American, but it amused me no end that while the crowd were wowed by the lit squirty water, I was in awe of a simultaneous direct fly by of ISS doing 17500 mph , 250 miles up.... Go figure, as they say in these parts.
Nick Davies — Google review
Super cute kind of corny but still worth experiencing. I was surprised how far away it is making it appear tiny. I liked how they played several different styles of music to appeal to everyone. If you sit in the grass left of the seating area there’s a more direct view. There’s also an ice cream shop right there so grab a cone before the show. I didn’t realize that’s what it was until it was over and they were closed.

A great place to view in rough weather, but also not an ideal place to visit under such conditions.
Seriously: DO NOT VISIT DURING STORMS!!
The location is beautiful to visit when weather is calm or if there is light rain. Diving off the pier can also be fun so long as you are aware of the rocks. Rough waters are also fine so long as the weather is relatively calm. High, violent waves during blustery conditions can be a death sentence, though.
Be aware, take precautions, be safe.

We don't frequent alot of casinos but comparing it to Turtle Creek, we like Turtle Creek. Here I think they had more food options
But we don't go for food, especially at those prices.
The bathroom I was in, did not have toilet paper or paper towel, of course I required both.

Took a friend there, clean, not crowded on a Wednesday night. Didn’t see any one winning…but totally focused on spending their money. Most looked like they couldn’t afford to loose the money. I guess if you can afford to loose it’s entertaining, did look like fun if you didn’t need the money. My friend played cards and lost a lot. I hope I don’t need to come here again, hate to see people loosing money that they need for other things. Left depressed, I think it’s an illness, just my opinion…

I've been coming to GLC since its inception. Food options were always excellent. I miss the Cafe that had awesome food and great prices, but with the latest addition I am loving the new games (slots) and the tables that have always been great. I've visited this casino somewhere around 500 times in the past 11 years. I am up as off the end of October 2023. What the bad reviewers mention about how slots didn't pay and they were so tight don't understand is that these machines have to be a randomn generated number driven payout. Meaning most of these machines have a RTP (return to player) of on average 97%. You can look up any slot in the facility and find the RTP and any other Info through the manufacturers website. Don't see.the manufacturer right away at a machine ask a floor person or an exec in a suit. They will help you to find info which can lead you to lower volatility higher RTP machines. I'm up $3.5k this year and it's because I'm lucky. You play long enough over a large enough sample size you will be profitable if you know when to walk away.
I love this casino. It's always clean and never met an unfriendly attendant, dealer, exec, or pit boss. I always tip dealers and slot attendants when I hit a handpay. Free coffee and soda and have some fun. Sportsbook is sweet. Can't wait for hotel, pool, and nightclub so they can start comping me rooms.
Keep up the good work GLC!

Hands down the worst Poker Room I've ever been to In My Life staff is rude didn't sound like they had a clue what they were doing. I've been playing cards for most of my life and I am very aware how the calling system works. I called in and was not added to the list I checked in first had a gentleman bust out leave the casino after exactly 10 minutes I approached an asked how long they were going to give the guy they said he had time. After they had decided that it was too long they reverted back to the calling list that I was not privy to and bump a guy behind me ahead of me. I plead my case but there is a serious lack of intelligence on the other end. I took my name off the list I will not be back.

Need more banks of poker machines. Parking attendants very kind & upbeat ! Security staff member giving us directions also very friendly and engaging. Clean except you can tell they don't get much time between customers to clean the machines. My hands turn black quickly during play.
Located in downtown Holland, Windmill Island Gardens features tulip gardens from all over the world, a 250-year-old windmill, a carousel, and Dutch-costumed guides. The gardens are open to the public and cost $12 per person. There is also a gift shop and food available.
What a lovely stop! I loved the conservatory and also learning so much about the windmill and its rich history. Though I was looking forward to buying some of the local flour, I understand how COVID's impact made that impossible. Just being able to climb up inside it was amazing! All of the staff we spoke to were friendly and eager to share their knowledge. It was still chilly for our visit (so not everything was in bloom) but there was plenty to see.

This was more enjoyable than I had originally thought. The flowers were beautiful. Can't even imagine what it would look like when the tulips are in bloom. The gift ship was small and quaint and the carousel was being enjoyed by kids. The outdoor organ was fun. I even saw a few teens dancing and having fun being silly. That was really nice. The windmill was beautiful and going inside to hear the history from one of the employees was worth it.

**Stop! Are you looking for the famous Tulip Garden? This is it.**
Our first time coming here. Not how I envision it but good. People glorify the images but in reality it’s a tame environment. I was expecting a magnificent display of tulips all over. In reality, they are planted in sections and in limited quantities.
The windmill is huge! The area is surround by a small stream which must be used for watering the tulips. The bathrooms are located in the main building which is nice. No outhouses or porta potty. No need for extra smells to ruin the smell of tulips. They do have ONE food stand which serves a decent amount of different foods.
I strongly suggest you come before the festival, because when it arrives, there is basically no parking spot available.
Come and enjoy the tulips.

This is a beautiful place to come and stroll, they have a marsh with all kinds of wildlife. The windmill is very fascinating to tour, the historic street organ was beautiful, just to see this historic gem and to see the inside and how it works was amazing and a wonderful learning experience. They have gift shops and a carousel that gives free rides every hour. I enjoyed my walk through this Netherlandish replica. I loved the women walking around in classic Dutch clothing and shoes. I recommend everyone take their family at least one time. You don’t have to go during the tulip festival I believe it’s something you can do all year round.

Stopped here for a quick visit on an RV trip. Beautiful grounds, lovely windmill, and enthusiastic staff who are eager to engage and teach about Dutch culture and the grinding process of the windmill. The gardens were well manicured and gorgeous. Kids enjoyed the carousel which runs every 30 min at no additional fee. The only downside was for as much as it cost to get in there wasn’t much to do except see the windmill, organ, and carousel. Was still worth the visit just thought it was a bit overpriced.

Great place to just walk around. We came to see the Tulips. We climbed up inside the windmill. It is an interesting museum and garden. It's worth the price, because of the amount of time and work it must take to take care of this place.

I was really excited to come here. We live 3 hours away. I looked up the best time to see the tulips and I found tulip festival is the best time. So we planned and drove 3 hours here. Then, we sat in traffic forever, only to finally get to the entrance just to see the parking lot is closed, and then we finally found parking downtown. Walk all the way up just to be told there is an hour wait to get tickets. So we wait to get tickets. Come in to overcrowded Park, and the flowers were mostly half dead. And if there were okay ones, there was a mob of people everywhere. I exepted fields of flowers, but in reality, it was only 4. I feel like the festival should have started sooner before all the flowers died. If the flowers looked good, it would have been all worth it.

Lovely place to visit, especially if you enjoy history, windmills and/or tulips. I went when they were having an autumn craft event, which made it pretty lively. The Dutch village itself is very cool even when there's not an event going on. The windmill is worth checking out to see how grains used to be processed (and all of the instruments of grain torture...). The windmill was only open Thurs-Sat when I visited so definitely double-check before going if you want to see the inside and get a bird's eye view of the gardens.

I probably missed a few things to do but I’m sure those were fun as well.

Not what the photos will promised you. So here's some angles to show you the actual state of this location. It's few patches of Tulips with more weeds than the flowers and Tulip plants which grew barely a feet heigh. We went at the peak of the season (May 4th Saturday) and the first to enter the park, so none of the plants were run down by the crowd yet. But still it was worse than you think. Can you take an impressive photo with a Windmill at the back if you place the camera just at the right angle? Yes. Would you be impressed by the location, at all? No. So if you happen to drive through Holland, MI and need to stop for some reason, do visit this place. But please don't waste your time to drive hours to see a Tulip Garden. You won't. I was sad about the miles of people queuing up to enter the garden when we were leaving. Cherry on top was the run down Macatawa River with dead weed and barely any water. This is definitely the "Poor Man's version of Tulip Festival in Netherlands". And not worth a drive. Not recommended.

It was a beautiful place to be for a day trip. We went on May 10 when the tulips were in full bloom and enjoyed a lot. There were lots of tulips of different colors. It was a bit crowded though but that was okay. There are a few parking lots with enough space and that shouldn’t be a problem at all. Parking is free. There is a 12 dollar admission fee for one person and no discount for students. I would say 12 dollars was worth it for us because we haven’t seen that many tulips ever. There are two restaurants with few food options and ice cream. The prices are reasonable. There is a big shop to buy garments, arts and show pieces of different kinds. The wooden boots were unique because I haven’t seen them anywhere before. I would recommend the place to visit in the right time.

When we arrived around 11 a.m., the main entrance was closed because the parking lot was full, so we had to find parking elsewhere. By the time we found parking and walked about 15 minutes, the entrance was open again. It was a long walk pushing a stroller. Seems like we missed the peak time for the flowers, but they were still very nice. Restrooms are available right after you pay and enter. The entrance cost was $12/adult. There are limited food options. Three lunches (hamburgers, Italian sausage, fries, and drinks) were $42. A small deli style sandwich was $8. Arriving a little earlier or later may get you into the main parking lot.

Magic at the Mill Christmas event. Thought it was worth the $10 fee. The light show set to music was pretty cool to resemble dancing tulips. Good event for all ages that can walk 1/4 mile. Tent with hot chocolate and snacks available. Must buy tickets online in advance, no tickets at location.

Visited a week before the tulip time festival. Perfect time to avoid larger crowds and most of the flowers were already in full bloom. Not the biggest tulip farm in the area but worth it for a short stop. Windmill Island Gardens is a quaint and beautiful place to visit, walk around and learn about the real windmill brought from the Netherlands and the traditions and history of how Holland, Michigan was established.
The Holland State Park - Macatawa Campground is a popular spot for visitors to West Michigan. The campground has paved bike trails with views of the sunset and offers shopping opportunities for souvenirs. A highlight of the area is the iconic Big Red lighthouse, which provides a stunning view of Lake Michigan and the sand dunes. While the campground may be tight quarters and primarily geared towards RVs, it does offer amenities such as bathrooms and showers in the center of the grounds.
The beach and campground make this the most popular park in the state! Google says this about the park: “Nearly two million people flock to the park every year, making it one of the most visited state parks in Michigan. The public recreation area, which spans 142 acres, has an array of activities and amenities for visitors. (Mar 6, 2023)” Don’t give up on your summer plans though. There are many more state parks up and down the Lake Michigan shoreline. Warren Dunes (to the south) and Grand Haven (north). The State of Michigan spends a lot on upkeep of its parks so, no matter which one you stay at, you’re likely going to enjoy your time.

Beautiful State park with a pier and lighthouse, nice sand dunes and beautiful long grasses cover the dunes, has a large bathroom area and changing rooms and outdoor showers, an area to watch the boats go in and out of Lake Michigan and two walking paths to help you get all of your gear out to the beach. There is a small kids park with swings and volleyball nets. Been coming here for 35 years and I still love it!

Beautiful beach. We only spent about an hour there. Being springtime we didn't go in the water but we would like to return in the summer to visit.

We camped in the beach campground and had a phenomenal time. Everything was neat and tidy. The beach was 4 campsites down from ours, providing beautiful Lake Michigan Sunsets! The modern bathrooms and showers were well kept and clean. The camp host this weekend was super nice. We had a lovely time.

Plenty of parking and easy access down to the Lake from here.
Lots of ice along the waterfront, so weren’t able to get too close, but it’s beautiful seeing the Lake in an icy clutch.
Facilities are closed in the winter so do be prepared, and the pier is closed due to ice, but a beautiful spot.

Nice park with a fantastic location, and one of the two bath houses is really nice. The west bath house could definitely use an update, and some of the sites are a bit unlevel, so pay attention when booking for a large RV. We had an asphalt pad and still need all of our leveling wedges to get it right. Still worth visiting this park despite the few shortcomings.

Clean rooms and nice people run it.Great location. The outside needs work, but looks like it is being worked on. There is no pool or mini golf, but if you are just looking for an inexpensive place to stay, this is an option. There is a decent restaurant in the lot ,a bar and an antique store. Small fridge in the room and microwave in a common room.

Nice state park with views, piers and a beach. The dunes were great. There is a lighthouse called "Big Red" right across the inlet you can get pictures of. We didn't stay long but enjoyed the visit.

Great trail on the shorter side. Can be steep at the beginning and end but other than that, it's a nice hike with a lovely view of lake Michigan, the red lighthouse and the sand dunes.
The campground itself is pretty tight quarters. Not many trees, so I wouldn't count on using hammocks.
It seems like primarily an rv park.
It does have bathrooms and showers in the center of the campground.

Campground is a parking lot but right at the beach. No fire pits but you can bring your own. Family friendly. Verizon service decent. You have to pay to park still even with reservation

If you like the beach, especially if you've never been to a freshwater coast, this is a great place to start. It offers a little something for everyone. There is a nice beach that is kept very clean.

We enjoyed being close to the beach. Our E-bikes were perfect on the many bike paths around the area. Our hike had a beautiful Overlook as a reward, Our campsite was nice, but was next to the main road for the beach. Noisy motor heads had the only disappoint. Nice two day stay.

Location, location, location! For reference, my husband & I stayed 4 nights in July 2023 in our 40 ft motorhome. The park is in a premium location and walking/biking distance to the beach, restaurants & shopping. We rented bikes from Oak Grove Campground for 2 days and loved riding around the beautiful town. The big red lighthouse is a short walk from the park and a great place to watch the sunset. The sites are decently spaced apart and level. If you’re lucky enough, they have some full hookup sites. We were in corner spot #159 (50 amp hookup only). Things to know: cell service was good, there are a lot of tent campers and families with small kids, the park is strict on their noise policy and does night patrols. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend this campground.

Ok, let me get this out of the way. The check-in process was a nightmare. You weren’t allowed to check in before 3pm and we unfortunately arrived at 2 so we were made to wait. We decided to wander for an hour since we couldn’t wait in the parking lot. Returned at 3 and the line to get in was unbelievable. It took over half an hour.
Anyway, the campground was great. Bathrooms and shower rooms were fantastic. Very clean and taken care of. The sites were a bit close together but actually it was surprisingly quiet. Once we saw how packed it was we thought it was going to be a mess, but we had a very nice stay. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

Great campground with a short drive to the beach, which is beautiful!
I did want to mention one thing that affected our "camping party"; we had read you could check in early if your campsite was vacant.
**This is not true anymore** at this campground in Holland Michigan anyway.
*Check in is at 3. No exceptions - even if your site is free.

This is a state park in Lake Michigan. They have 2 piers you can walk out on when the water is acting up. It was closed the day I went. The wind was blowing and the waves were coming in nice. The park was nice though we really only saw the beach and pier area. They have a cool lighthouse and a plaque explaining the history of the lighthouse. The park seemed well kept and clean and the scenery was awesome. There was a playground area for the kids. If you like being outside, around the water and beach, this was a beautiful place to visit. I would recommend going and checking it out if you are in the area. It would be amazing in the summer for summer fun too.

We saw people surfing 🏄♀️ 🌊 and it was 40°F and windy. Wow. The restrooms are still closed. (They will open on summer). There is a playground on sand.

Great location- the lake is across the road from the campground. Close to Holland which is unique with windmills, etc. Lake Michigan was a 4 min. drive. Campground does not have full hookups, which would definitely be a plus.

Nice State Park campground. We stayed in the wooded half, not the beach. There were nice shade trees over half the campground and the bathroom and showers in that half was very nice! They were holding a Halloween event with campsite decorating contest, coffee and donuts, and trick or treating for the kids, also. There is a LOT of road noise audible in the campground, so it's not the quietest option.
Mikki Fullerton — Google review
We stopped long enough to get pictures of Big Red. Unfortunately Google had taken us in the wrong way so we weren't able to see the front view of the lighthouse. Beautiful area, though.

Sites were pretty wooded, and shaded. Beach sites were close but not crowded and had easy beach access. The beach, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Water was warm, it was all sand, and super shallow. Even like 25 feet away from shore and it was maybe 4 feet deep. All time favorite Michigan beach.
The Saugatuck Dune Rides is a popular tourist attraction in Saugatuck, operating since the 1950s. Its rugged off-road trails offer visitors great views of lakeshore dunes, trees and grasses. The drivers are knowledgeable and provide interesting historical facts about the area during their tours. The ride lasts around 45 minutes but seems to go by quickly due to its fun nature.
This experience is pretty awesome. Nate was our tour guide/driver and he was super funny and energetic which we loved. It seems to go by so fast but it was 45 minutes. I wish I was out there longer, it went by fast but so much fun. Nice views, and good time. I would recommend checking this adventure out. Thanks Nate for making it awesome. They seem to always be sold out so act quickly!

We had an absolute great time! Our driver Bernie was wonderful and very knowledgeable. The ride was fun and the dunes were awesome!! I would recommend getting a time slot in advance online. The slots fill up fast.

Oh this was so much fun. You can buy in advance. They do accept walk ins, which is what we did. We were able to walk in and be loaded on the buggy for the very next ride, in fifteen minutes. The driver Gary was hilarious. He made the adventure so much better with his commentary. I highly recommend this and I'll definitely be back with different humans.

Iconic attraction for locals and natives, operating since the 1950s, the dune rides are a highlight attraction in Saugatuck. Great guides, beautiful trails and fun history. Bonus: super interesting to fly over and see the trail, check it out on your next flight.

This is an absolute must do activity for anyone visiting the area! We brought our two daughters with us, ages 5 and 2, and they both had an excellent time. Our tour guide did a great job of keeping everyone entertained as well as being very informative about the local area. You learn quite a bit about the local environment and history while also having a blast shooting around in an open aired buggy on the dunes. Definitely reserve tickets ahead of time if you can, they sell out quickly!

Great experience! Our driver was so nice and knowledgeable about the area. The ride wasn’t super bumpy, and good for any age. The ride did go a lot faster than I thought it would, which I was happy about. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area!

Our driver was Frosty, and he was so much fun and so funny. Frosty knew his stuff and had a lot of fun with his job. He was a real joy to be around, and the history he taught us was really interesting.
We supposedly maxed out at 25/30 mph, but it felt a lot faster, especially going around the curves.

We had a great ride with this outfit. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about the history and subsequent creation of these sand dunes. Bernie was our supee guide that gave us a drive of our lives. He starts off and shows his reverse driving abilities without being on the seat . His fun jokes rival those of the Disneyland Jungle cruise and could easily start his own show. He intertwined that with speed cruising through the sands that only a Nascar driver could handle . I also need to mention his knowledge and history of the area and the affect of civilization in the 1900's created this dunes.
I would recommend you go here and enjoy the ride. My only complaint really is that it was longer . Hated to go.
Thanks for a great time.

I highly recommend doing this ride. It’s not an all day thing so not a huge time commitment. Our guide was very informative on the development, history, and ecology of the dunes. Nice scenic views. Fun experience. Worth the price of the ticket.

Our driver, Ian, was terrific. We had a blast. Very informative, and the best rollercoaster like fun around the dunes that buried the old logging town of Singapore.

We went on the dune ride in the afternoon and had a blast. Our driver was Nate. He was both knowledgeable and hilarious. We had a group of five little girls on our trip with their moms, and Nate kept including the girls by name, and joking with them, making them feel comfortable. You’ll stop for about 10 minutes to get out and walk around. Nate gladly took pictures of us…and included himself in one 🤣…then off you go again. It was so enjoyable, we wanted to go again!

We had an absolute blast on the dune ride with our driver Paul! Not only did he navigate the dunes expertly, but his knowledge of the area was impressive, and he answered all our questions with enthusiasm. He had a great sense of humor, and his corny jokes kept the ride entertaining throughout. There were also several stops at places so we could enjoy the beautiful scenery. The view at the top of the tallest dune was of Lake Michigan and the surrounding area. It was gorgeous! We would definitely recommend this experience to our friends and family.

Fantastic experience. Great fun cruising along the tracks, sliding just a little bit around the curves. The driver was very knowledgeable and his jokes were so bad that they were pretty fantastic.
Definitely recommend taking this ride at least once.

So much fun!! Good American family fun. Our driver, Michael, was great and very funny. Really enjoyed the forest part of the drive and all
His jokes. Definitely worth a try when I’m Saugatuck. We booked online a couple days in advance- seems to sell out quickly!

When I read that it was a 40-45 minute ride I was guessing was going to be in this big vehicle going slow and no excitement but I was wrong. The driver was great. I did not think about stops in the ride for a couple great scenic overlooks, or some strange stops at props with cheesy stories and jokes but also included some very interesting stories on history.
This place us an hour from home and never been here before, but would go again. Trip started to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and my 55th birthday.
This is a gem that have missed out on for long time and now want to share with grandkids

This was one of my favorite parts about our trip to Saugatuck. Booking online took less than 5 minutes. We got there 10 minutes before our ride time and signed a waiver and waited. Lots of seating while you wait. Johnny was our tour guide and was so nice and knowledgeable and entertaining. Highly recommend!

We took our 4 teens and they had the best time! Beautiful scenery. Great commentary throughout the tour. And when my 16yo lost her phone during the tour, the staff was amazing at helping us locate it. Thank you all so much for a great time!
Oval Beach is a year-round, LGBT-friendly beach with sand dunes and nearby nature areas. It offers a quieter and more rustic beach experience compared to Silver Beach's brick-and-mortar features. The beautiful scenery and rhythmic waves make it an excellent spot for swimming, sunbathing, walking, hiking trails or napping on the beach. Its remoteness also makes it an ideal destination for those seeking solitude.
My 1st trip to Oval Beach yesterday as I usually do South Haven and St Joseph but now I can't wait to go back!!!!! Great parking, easy access to beach. Gets crowded quick. Highly recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We visited from Iowa and had no idea such beauty was at our backdoor. We figured we'd have to travel to the coastline, but nope, this is the spot for a quick road trip.
One of the days it was pretty windy, so we moved our chairs next to a dune, problem solved.
This is a must if you like the beach!

Excellent spot for a quieter and more rustic beach experience. Sand dunes and portapotties replace the flat sands and brick & mortar features of Silver Beach. Wear your suit under your clothes so you can hike the trails or nap on the beach to the rhythmic waves. If you are looking for a more remote beach, this is the spot for you.☀️

It is the most beautiful beach that I have been to in Michigan and it reminded me of the beaches in Miami . Absolutely beautiful!!
We had to wait an hour in the parking line but it was worth it. Parking costs $10 even if you have the Michigan State Park pass.

Fabulous spot even in the Autumn. Super fine sand, which squeaks as you walk. Can imagine it would be heaving in the summer.
Quite steep into the Lake. Apparently there can be dangerous currents too.
Waves get surprisingly high when the wind gets up.
Good parking.

Soft sand beach. Beautiful. Restrooms and concessions on site. While $4 for an ice cream cone seems "much" it's a really nice Beach, friendly for all. Also $10 entry fee. Worth it.

Clean beach, tons of waterfront, so even when crowded felt ample space from others. Rocky not sandy in water but fun searching for stones. Excellent beach day, easy walk with your beach gear. No huge dunes to get there.

Beautiful beach! It was a little "hike" to get down to it due to coming down and going up in sand but it wasn't terrible. The water was clear, relatively calm, and inviting (but cold!). Found lots of rocks in the area. Bathroom facilities close by

Top 25 beat beach fronts in the US! The great un-salted coast. Recommend getting there anywhere from 10-11AM on the weekends as the parking fills up. Beautiful beach and one of our favorites when visiting Saugatuck.

Nice beach, BUT they charged me entrance at 8:45pm (sunset was at 9:01pm). Some beaches don't charge closer to sunset. I spent $10 for just over an hour.

My Favorite place to relax! Oval Beach is my go to summer destination! Pay an annual fee pay per visit for just 10 dollars! Near to home and always so clean! Even on busy days with lots of people, it's still enjoyable, not too crowded or overwhelming. Hang out on the beach and splash in the water, or take a walk through the beautiful dunes! Take a hike up Mount Baldhead -- if you dare!
There are some swings available near the beach in front of restrooms. And while we're in the area, restrooms close at 730 pm so be aware as the time nears. People always are very friendly here! Look out for the guy with the pet duck! They are awesome if you seem them stop em and say hi! Maybe pet the ducky aha!
Seriously though, I love this place, lots and lots of beach, sand, and dunes to explore.

Please stay for at least one sunset this year, you will be glad you did, they are so stunning!
Plenty of parking, handicap accessible. Great for all ages.
