We enjoyed the opening night of The Cover of Life so much. Such a great cast! Also enjoyed the lobby, which had representations of our heroes of WW 2 and those as well at home. Such a great performance with quick dialog between characters bouncing back and forth so true to life, without the knowing for feeling of rehearsed pause. So good... This review from the author of 'The Reckoning of Rance' and 'Last of the Knowers." I cannot wait to see the next performance given my chance to experience. We just attended The Great American Trailer Park musical and boy let me tell you a fabulous show. Outstanding singing and such harmony. My favorite part was the slow motion scene. You just have to go see it to know what I am talking about. Really great stuff!!!

So glad we have such an amazing theatre company in town. Tickets are reasonable and they always put on great shows

Love taking my grandson to the shows, it's great entertainment. Update ***Tonight was the dinner theather & the food wasn't very good. The salad was warm, limp & over dressed, the pasta was barely warm, clumpy & needed sauce, the meatballs were salty, hard & overcooked. Same great talents on stage though!
Tonight was the Summer Youth Musical, The Lightening Theif. So many great performances!!
Another awesome performance tonight!! It's the last one for 2023. We'll be back next year!!

Highly recommend. We go several times per year and it is always amazing.

Amazing! The place is hip and sauve. There's not a "bad" seat in the place. Staff, volunteers, and actors were friendly and helpful! Highly recommend seeing a performance here!

JUST WOW!
Your show last night (The Great American Trailer Park Musical) was EPIC! I’ve done lots of community theater in my past and the actors/actresses, musicians, and production crew did a top notch performance! I was REALLY hoping to win the 50/50 raffle because if I did it was going right back to Y’ALL! The ticketing process and seat selection was easy and thorough on the website. I even had a “Welcome First Timer” envelope on my seat with a hand written Thank You card for coming! I felt like I was the star! I’m thankful that you allowed me to have a bottle of water during the performance, and am very much looking forward to seeing the remodeled dinner theater section when complete. Thanks again for such a professional entertainment venue! Can’t wait to attend more shows!

Love, love Backdoor. The seating is just small enough to feel a part of the action, and large enough to get everyone in comfortably. The plays are always well done and showcase out local talent. I had no idea we had so many talented people in our community.

Awesome fun time!!! Great people and very interactive

Always great plays. Small venue. Can be a little confusing for first timers trying to figure out where to go in. It's small and intimate which I like. Wish the band wasn't tucked away

We went for the first time tonight. It was am amazing experience! We had a lot of fun. Everyone there clearly loves to do what they do. It was great, and we will definitely be back soon!
What a neat place! The beer was great, with a good variety of types of beers on tap. The food was pretty good as well, I tried the pizza. Overall the ambiance was awesome. This place has all the traits of a great brewery, I'll definitely be back.
Kasey Raia Stout — Google review
It goes without saying that they have an excellent beer selection — but the atmosphere service and food round out the brewery to make it a must visit for a low-key good time with friends and family.
Bill Grubb — Google review
Excellent food! Excellent selection of Beers! Staff is great as well and very knowledgeable. Their Pepperoni pan style pizza is the bomb dot com! It may look burnt in the picture, but that bad boy had like a caramelized honey on it that will light your taste buds up! (In a great way). Thank you for providing a great atmosphere to the folks of Wichita Falls!

Great local place for craft beers. A balance of stouts, IPA, ales, lagers, wheats and some wines. Very tasty pub grub.
Patrick A Corrente — Google review
Always friendly bartenders here! Currently they have 4 sours on draft! Flights are very reasonable in price. They rotate their drafts so def keep checking back! Very family friendly! Plenty of board games and Jenga, etc to keep the kids entertained. Food is pretty good as well.
Coel Williams — Google review
The place itself is nice and clean. They have a good selection of beers and Progress Pizza is really good (they could use improvement by cooking the thin crust longer). I am giving it three stars because of the temperature control. I've been here in the winter and it was nose running cold and in the summer it is very uncomfortably hot. It makes it difficult to enjoy yourself when not comfortable.
Sheila Montemayor — Google review
Great local craft beer spot. Pizza is banging as well! Tons of beer options and atmosphere is a cool/rustic/metal theme. Highly recommend giving it a try
Jesse White — Google review
Nice, cool place to stop after a hard bike ride! Good ambiance, friendly staff, lots of beer on tap!

Great spot, great beer and great service. Loved the atmosphere and that they had three TVs playing the NFL game. The Taco Chaser is the bomb.
Cami Ward — Google review
Great place for pizza and beer! The salad was great too, just like any arugula fig salad I might have had in a big city. The brewery beers that I tasted were lovely crisp and complex.

Uhm Detroit pan pizza-yesss please. And a flight of IPAs= amazingness. Very cool brewery.
Daniela Sierra — Google review
Place was great. Plenty of parking around the building. Huge selection of beers both on tpa amd in can/bottle. My wife and I had two flights and some food. All their beers were good. I highly recommend their Oktoberfest, the Red Ale, and the blood orange IPA. The food there was great too. I had the brisket nachos and my had the chicken sandwich. Both came out quick and tasted great. Josh behind the bar was extremely friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend of you're in the area.
Joseph Stone — Google review
Odd that Google isn’t giving me the option to 5-star the atmosphere and service. Food/beer wise, solid 4 stars. I tasted a few of the beers before landing on the red ale. The IPAs were very meh. Trivia night was fun. Burger was a greasy burger. Overall good time.
Alan Marshall — Google review
Great atmosphere, good beer, progress pizza has a kitchen inside and has very good pizza with unique deep dish options that are great. Big seating area. Great place to bring a cribbage board or some cards and chill with your homies.
mateo strang — Google review
I always try to stop here when driving between DFW and Amarillo. It’s a great place to stretch the legs, and besides, it breaks up the monotony of a pretty boring drive.
But I digress.
Wichita Falls Brewing is a solid contributor to the craft beer scene that has exploded all over Texas. Today I started with Artificial Horizon, a traditional IPA (7% ABV) with a slightly piney finish. It is a very approachable IPA, and a good one for those new to IPAs, since it is not too hop-forward. I followed up with Palien Ale (5% ANV), a cute wordplay for a pale ale. This too is easy drinking, but with a somewhat slight malty finish.
There is food onsite, such as pizzas, although I did not partake this time.
All told, WFBC is the perfect rest stop
Nick Gerlich — Google review
Big variety of beer to choose from. Food options looked good also. The atmosphere is great for socializing with friends.
Dale Richey — Google review
Great spot for food and brew. Beer was cold with plenty of choices. Food was hot and fresh. Would definitely stop in if we were in town again.
This nonprofit neighborhood theater, a designated Texas Historic Landmark, hosts kid & family shows.
Recently attended the dinner/show Nunsense.
It was wonderful from start to finish. Staff was courteous, dinner was very good, but the show was phenomenal. The cast made the whole evening with their outstanding talent. Comedic timing was spot on and the whole thing was very entertaining. Anyone who has not experienced the professionalism of the Wichita Theater and our local talent is certainly losing out on amazing entertainment.

Great venue for LIVE Entertainment
We came to see the Youth and children’s theatre production. All the kids were great. Amazing talent. And the use of lights and sound and sets and costumes were amazing.

First time here and we saw Mary Poppins. I was greatly impressed with the whole thing...the acting, singing, set up, costumes! Everything was just great. Took my 12 year old son who typically was say "cringe" but he loved it!
Amanda Young — Google review
This recent trip to The Hunchback of Notre Dame is quite literally the first time I ever attended the Wichita Falls Theater in Wichita Falls, Texas. I must say that I was quite impressed with the orderly service and clean facilities in addition to the wide spaces inside the main lobby and the seating area. The chairs weren't that soft though. The food was equally pricy too. There was plenty of parking though around the surrounding areas.
Alex Pappas — Google review
We drove four hours to attend performance, was definitely not disappointed. Have visited several other theaters, but I thought they did a wonderful performance, cast and crew were on top of their A game. Thanks for the experience. It was my granddaughters 16 birthday, she had a wonderful time.

**UPDATE July 2023**
Well we said in our 1st review we would be back and we have now seen 2 additional shows here and both were just as amazing as our 1st experience. We saw Wizard of Oz and also The Little Mermaid and both were so great!! Kudos to everyone involved in these performances from the set designer to costume designer to hair and makeup and of course they actors and actresses! All 3 shows have been magical and so much fun for our entire family! Highly recommend and thank yall💗
Sept 2022 Took my girls here for a surprise night out and it did not disappoint at all! We saw Beauty and the Beast and it was a wonderful experience!! The cast was amazing and the set and costumes were great! Even the people working concessions were so sweet and engaging with my girls and made the evening magical for them! We will definitely be back to see more shows here in the future💖

The hospitality was great. The food was delicious. The show was SO awesome! Thank you Minister Nesbit for inviting Marie & I. What an amazing date night.
Alonzo Nelson — Google review
We were once season ticket holders, but after my husband died I have only been to one other show. The staff is amazing, fron Dwayne on to wait sstaffi will say the food was lukewarm & the flavor was disappointing. It was a cute show, would have enjoyed it more if we'd been able to hear & understand it. The actors were trying to have accents but several scenes the sound wasn't appropriate & the lines were difficult to understand. Five tickets @ $62 apiece
Is it unreasonable to expect to hear the show & have warm food? I will return because I love the theater but this time was a bust for my group. Sorry.

Great experience seeing "The SpongeBob Musical" with my boyfriend and our friend! The theatre was clean, the performance was fun, and the customer service was very welcoming. :-)

Great Show, This Place is Growing in 2024 Dinner Treater , Call for Details.
Stevie Cox — Google review
Great local theater with some super fun performances, saw Wizard of Oz and Finding Nemo Jr. Both performances had great costuming and some surprising standouts in terms of performance and vocal abilities. The stage is surrounded by white walls with projectors, which really helps with setting up their backdrops for success and reduces the number of larger set pieces required to set the stage. They also serve wine from a local winery, which is a fun touch! The seats aren't the most comfortable and the height of the seats in the first six rows doesn't change much, so can be harder for those that are vertically challenged or smaller kids to see. They do have booster seats for super small kids, but they're a little too tall for shorter adults and younger pre-teens.
Alyssa Brown — Google review
The old time atmosphere here is great. We went to see Mary Poppins and it was spot on. Loved the performances from all the actors.

From the ticket buying experience, to the ushers helpful and cheerful attitude, the clean theater, the awesome show, I can't say enough. I was shocked at the experience. Thanks for the WOW factor! We will definitely be back.
Museum with exhibits on the area's Native Americans, the gas & oil industry, cowboys hats & dolls.
This had so much Wichita Falls and surrounding are history! Our Grand daughter loved the hands on and scavenger hunt. It was informative, interesting, and well worth the vidot

This was a great place to get out and stretch the legs while on a road trip. It's donation based and there's plenty of information if you're a history or war buff. There's even a few things to freak your kids out with... I recommend stopping by the museum of North Texas history when in the area
David Kimbell — Google review
Very interesting and surprisingly big museum. I honestly wasn’t going in with high expectations, but the amount of historical artifacts in here is nice. There’s no entry fee, but they do suggest donation amounts based on the size of your group, which wasn’t bad at all. If you’re looking for something to do in Wichita Falls then here you go!
Jacob Arnes — Google review
Cool little museum, we learned a lot while there.
Jennifer Taylor — Google review
This place is great!!! I spent a long time here.
amanda davis — Google review
There is so much to see here! It’s hard to take it all in. Pace yourself and plan to make at least two visits.
I enjoyed my visit. There is so much to learn and read. I really enjoyed the uniforms. Learning about the history of nursing and the college was really exciting.
I am so glad there was at least a room dedicated to women. The walls of hats was surprising. I enjoyed the reconstructed building facades of the post office and store fronts.
I had never seen a side-saddle until I visited. The theater is also full of information. I would like to watch a movie there.
This museum is in a good location. One of the rooms was having a new exhibition installed when I visited. I think I would visit again with my family in the future. The museum is free but asks for a $5 donation. It is well worth $5.
I hope they get some grants soon to get more staff, improve the venue, and exhibits.

I've been going to the Museum of North Texas History from time to time when I'm in Wichita Falls, Texas for the experience of learning more this city's great history. Easy to find thanks to the wonderful signage in the front, I was able to explore the vast Western history and military displays. This museum is a pretty decent size and even has a theater room in it for various movies. I'd recommend this museum to anyone who wants to learn more of this destination city.

If you are looking for a place to learn about history of this area, you might want to visit this museum. We did not expect much but it has a lot of interesting exhibits (medical equipment, ship models, cowboy hats, boots, Uniforms). You can see artifacts from different periods and cultures. We enjoyed our time there and stayed for an hour. It was a worthwhile experience.
Straightforward facility with trophies, pictures & wrestlers' outfits, plus commemorative plaques.

This place cost 3$ and delivers a priceless collection. It was amazing, every inch has something to look at, touch, read or take pictures of. The man running it made it even better, he was extremely nice and spilling over with knowledge about wrestling in the old days, all the way to the present. He encouraged us to take pictures, ask questions and just enjoy. I will be back for sure, too much to absorb in one visit. Highly recommend.

Amazing place with tons of awesome memorabilia. If your lucky you may get to shake hands with the likes of retired pro boxer Pat Duran or retired pro wrestler "Cowboy" Johnny Mantell during a visit. Plan to spend at least 2 hours there cause there's so much to see. There are tv's set up with vintage video footage playing and even a full size wrestling/boxing ring there for you to see. If you bring young kids there is a special section set up for them to play video games or color. This place is a must see!!!

Alley Cat Vintage Mercantile is a fantastic antique/vintage store in Wichita Falls. It offers a vast selection of items spread out over three floors, making it quite spacious. What makes this store even more exciting is that many vendors from ECHOES From the Past have relocated here, providing shoppers with familiar favorites. A visit to Alley Cat is highly recommended, as there's something for everyone and so much to see that you won't want to leave.
If you come to wichita falls, you must visit Alley Cat. Anyone at any age, all find what your looking for and at great prices. Be warned. This place is 2 stories & you will need time to look at ever nook & crany. You will not be disappointed!

Must stop! Worth the drive from DFW! Multi-floor antique and vintage antique mall. Lots of antiques ranging from dish ware to clothing to books and everything in between. Upper floors are not handicap friendly but I was able to make the climb. Go in the morning before it gets too hot, fans and little to no ac.

This place is packed with all the vintage finds you never knew you needed! Super friendly staff! Recommend during summer months you show up early in day, as it is not air conditioned and can get a little warm on your adventures...however they do have many many fans located throughout the entire building to cool off in front of when needed. Can't wait to go back!

Growing up in Wichita Falls I was fortunate enough to go to the library a lot. I was one of those kids who could not read enough. I always entered the reading contest that they had in the summer and usually was either in first place or second place for my age group. The library seemed so beautiful to me as a child, and now, as an adult, I have an even greater appreciation for this historic piece of Wichita Falls. It may not be the library anymore but it is a very fitting home for an Arts Center in this town. The people who work there and the volunteers are always more than helpful and I greatly enjoy the fact that they have as many community events there as they do.

Beautiful building, local artworks, with certeous staff. The grounds and art are wonderful. Highly recommend getting out and visiting.

One of the best places in town that you can visit and tour for free! I recommend people go to the library and the Kemp Center for the Arts on a weekend because both facilities do free classes for kids! Studio Saturday is saturday mornings and is taught by a very sweet and fun artist. The entire staff is wonderful, kind and funny! There are many gallery openings where you can visit for free and enjoy snacks and wine while experiencing beautiful art from local artists! I actually teach Anime and Chibi classes at the Kemp Center where my students have a blast learning and socializing with like-minded students, and there are other classes offered here!

This is a beautiful building and they had a lovely collection of quilts. It is free with donations accepted. Their gift shop is quaint. It's definitely worth a look. I highly recommend the quilt collection. Hours and hours of time was spent on each piece, thoughtfully, meticulously put together.
176-acre park set in a river bend, with a pool, nature center & paved trail for hiking & biking.
Excellent city park! Well kept and managed by the city of Wichita Falls. Such large spaces with different features. Intentional thought and design was put into this place. Great place to spend the day for some quiet time or with the whole family.

Lucy Park is always a good option to either go walk, play disc golf or to just go feed the ducks at the duck pond. The walking trail is a loop, a little over a mile I think maybe more and the walk to the falls is a short one depending where you park. It's a nice casual park with open fields in the center and plenty of benches with pavilions and two separate basket ball courts. It is well kept and there is also a playground area for you to take you kids to play and swing. The picture of the falls I posted was taken and edited by me personally and doesn't look like that in real life.

Its lush greenery and meandering pathways offer a tranquil escape for visitors seeking respite from urban life. Families gather for picnics on the well-manicured lawns, while joggers and walkers enjoy the serenity of tree-lined trails. The park's centerpiece often includes a picturesque pond, where ducks gracefully glide across the water. Lucy Park stands as a cherished oasis, providing a peaceful retreat for locals and a delightful destination for anyone seeking a connection with nature in an urban setting.

The park is located a short distance from the highway. We stopped for an impromptu picnic under a well built shaded area in the park. Then followed the signs down a nice wide sidewalk to see the falls. It was better in person than online pictures led us to believe. The park is fairly clean and has other amenities like a pool, playground, and large seating areas.

Lucy park, a childhood staple. Lots of memories here with my grandparents who lived in Wichita falls. Beautiful scenario, nice walks, a community pool, multiple playgrounds and music area. Walking down Lucy park every Thanksgiving and summer while visiting my grandparents as a child was always a beautiful experience. Truly a lovely respite place. Being able to watch the ducks and geese through the seasons and raise their offspring is a joy. The Park is kept clean, though it does take help from the public. The lilypads return every summer and grow as big as platters. Frogs, turtles, fish all in the pond. And it's often graced with the presence of a blue heron. One of my faves for a quiet breakfast spot to start the day.

Huge, beautiful park. Lots to look at. The cottonwood trees are breathtaking. Lots of wildlife. Looks like a great place to have children's birthday parties etc. We don't have young children so it was my husband & I. Make sure you seek out the old suspension bridge and take a stroll down to the falls, the walk isn't too bad and it's well worth it.
Sweetest nature center. absolute must for small children. This staff was so informative. Just a great so happy I stumbled upon it.

Fun little nature center with indoor and outdoor things to see. Small children's garden has a dinosaur dig area which my daughter really enjoyed. They also have paved and unpaved trails to explore.

Such a fun place to visit! They had a lot of kid activities to do for free once inside. Several cool things to see inside as well as informative signs. Kevin (I think was his name) was so informative and shared information with us that we didn't know. The butterfly area was really cool! We liked learning about the ferrets and watching them play. There is a paved and non paved trail, both are just as fun to walk on. The signs along the trail are very informative. Tons of squirrels along the trail and it was fun looking for animal tracks in the dirt part of the trail. Be cautious if there has been a lot of rain recently, the wild side trail looks as though it gets rather wet and muddy. The children's garden is nice as well along with the dino dig area.

I visited the River Bend Nature Center today. It was a very enjoyable and informative place. The young man working showed us around telling us about all the indoor exhibits. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. I wish I had gotten his name to thank him personally.

A great place to visit even if you aren't with your children, or grandchildren. The staff are knowledgeable and so happy to help and explain everything to you.
So much fun to see animals up close. While there on this visit, I saw the bull snake preparing to shed it's skin and when touched acted like a rattlesnake.
Even saw a roadrunner up close.
The butterfly enclosure was also great to be able to go to even though it was a cool day and the butterflies were all settled and resting.

Coming into town from a far drive and wanted a relaxing spot to take a break and this was just perfect.
Great selection of wines and snacks to pair with them. Will be returning❕

A nice brunch place on a Saturday after the farmers market. The drinks are very good, but because everything is made from scratch, your food order make take longer than longer as my eggs benedict took about 20 minutes

We attended the 2022 Valentines dinner, and it was a phenomenal experience. Everything from the door greeting to good bye was perfect. We felt pampered as our every need was promptly handled while maintaining minimal interruptions, allowing us to converse and bond. The meal was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. We greatly enjoyed the pianist, who played at a level allowing us to enjoy the music while carrying on a conversation. We had one minor issue, which was brought to our attention before we noticed. They went above and beyond by taking ownership and correcting the issue. Even with Horseshoe Bend Cellars being a 90 minute drive we will return for a Sunday afternoon getaway and sip.

Love this place! Beautiful setting beautiful atmosphere! And the wines are pretty good too. We both did tastings and shared a cheese tray. We decided to buy 2 bottles to take home. The tip is, if you buy something to take home, your tasting is free. Our hostess was knowledgeable and friendly. We will definitely stop back when we’re in the area again.

This place is fantastic! There’s quite a few choices for wine tasting (4 for $10) and two chocolate sauces. Martha, our server, was very personable, sweet, and just fantastic. The owner was also in and chatted with us. This place felt very homey and I love that they are pet friendly. Will definitely be coming back when I am back in this area!

The building is much more comfortable than I thought it would be.
Larger than I expected, and with excellent quality exhibits. They have lots of local finds, with some video and photos of the recoveries. There are live and taxidermied exhibits of native fauna and some other things from around the world for scale and comparison.
No museum of natural history is complete without at least a few dinosaur bones, and their fossil collection is the bulk of the exhibit. The gift shop is spot on, with some wild republic stuffed dinosaurs/animals I haven't see before.
Highly recommended! I especially enjoyed the line of large planispiral shells lining the outside of the building (ammonites).

This is a great museum, and well worth making a diversion to visit if you're anywhere near the area. They're really doing great work on the Permian fossils from the rocks around Seymour, but the museum has much more than that. A real hidden gem!

Any incredible oasis of learning in a dry dusty north texas town. The staff and residing professionals are incredibly nice. The exhibits are very modern and the museum clean. The windows into the workroom were a most pleasant surprise. I recommend this for kids 6 to 96

This was a nice stop on our road trip. It was obvious that a lot of work went into the displays. There were no wheelchairs available for the handicapped, but there were multiple areas to sit down and rest while walking around the museum. Plan to stay around an hour or so.

Wondering should I drive out to this little museum? Is it worth the drive? Will my kids enjoy it? Will I enjoy it and will it be worth the admission?
YES! Yes, it is! Especially if you like well put together natural science exhibits, cool dinosaurs, animals, learning and incredibly awesome people! (Which you're reading this because you wanted a review for a NATURAL SCIENCE MUSEUM or atleast something to do.) I was looking at what to do for my mini-stay in Vernon, TX, with my kids ages 5-15. I came across several thing but my kids and I love science. I saw the fair admission price and decided we would do the hour drive to try it out. I am so thankful we did, I was honestly and happily surprised!
This place has real dino bones, great created non-cheesey examples of what the dinosaur were thought to look like (great for a 5 year old), plus some were found locally by the local people running the museum. The directors, assistant directors- etc, are people that love what they do and want others to learn and have passion about it too! Is it as large as the Houston musuem of science? No but it has 5 times the heart and character! And honestly, I liked this better! Another plus? It was more kid friendly!
Want an example? The have a working lab where you can see the paleontologists working, it tells you about what they do, how they do things and it even has things for you to do! They even have live animals in enclosures, plus they have the most complete Dimetrodon skeleton found together! Want more? Go see, you'll be glad you did! I'm betting you will be greeted into the same warm, friendly, fun, science loving environment we were. The museum is a total jewel, I highly recommend!
Thank you to the owners, directors, assistant directors for sharing your passions! And thank you to McKenzie for an awesone unforgettable visit!

In square feet, this Museum may be small, but every inch is packed with something amazing! There is so much to see, the displays are set up very well, and it is all highly educational. I recommend this Museum to every age-group.
Small park with a picnic area, xylophones, and little gardens. It's (mostly) enclosed on 3 sides and our one year old had a nice time playing here.

This is a wonderful little garden with beautiful landscaping. Plenty of places to sit in the shade with tables to have a lunch if you wish. The only reason I did not give it the full five stars is that some of the equipment is broken due to bad weather and misuse (but mostly weather). Most of the equipment is workable and very fun. It is loud BUT it doesn't seem loud because of where they put the garden. It doesn't echo against walls and reverberate everything so you won't go home with a headache.

Historic Fort Phantom Hill is a 19th-century fort site with three original stone buildings, offering self-guided tours for history enthusiasts. The park is well-maintained and has walking trails that wind through the fort ruins with labeled signs depicting an old hospital and blacksmith. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of wildflowers blooming in spring while exploring the historical site, which provides a glimpse into Texas's rich history.
The park was well maintained and very enjoyable. I was born in Abilene but moved away in grade school. Although I had visited Fort Phantom lake as a child, I had never seen the fort ruins. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone interested in historical sites and Texas history.

It's pretty much a self guided tour of a fort from the mid 1800's ruins. There's the obvious next to the entrance building, but if you walk around and look you'll see it was quite the complex in its day!

My husband and I enjoyed this stop bit our kids were less impressed. They wanted to go inside everything, which, of course, we did not let them do due to a host of safety concerns (snakes, building age, cacti, etc.). They did enjoy seeing the canon and the remains of the covered wagons.

There are other forts in Texas that are better preserved, such as Fort Davis and Fort Richardson. Glad someone is preserving the little there is left here (mainly chimneys). Beware of the grasshoppers.

If you like Texas history this is a pretty cool place. It’s a lot bigger and more spread out than I was expecting. You have to really appreciate the ruins and the story behind them. Yes there are tons of spiders, grasshoppers, etc but it’s out in the country so you should expect that. Just walk around and enjoy the peace and quiet for about 30 minutes and just imagine it as a it were in 1850, a bustling military fort.

This was a beautiful old site for a fort that once stood here. It had many trails to walk and some of the structure is still there. It was so pretty in the spring time with all the wildflowers blooming. They also had very clean bathrooms. Highly recommended.
Really lovely, easy for an outsider to visit - there's a parking lot right there, and while I'm sure it's for students, no one will mind if you park for a few minutes to look! Beautiful campus.

Jacob's Dream Sculpture is the perfect place to take photos, eat lunch or to sit and enjoy quiet time. It's peaceful and allows you to reflect. There are so many beautiful focal points with inspiring words of affirmation and reminders of the beauty of the universe and God. The lush grass and landscaping is a beautiful backdrop. The biblical sculpture of Jacob's Ladder is really descriptive and the rocks surrounding the sculpture are well designed to accompany the focus. It deserves a moment of meditation and it gives you a closeness to God.
John Yong — Google review
It is a beautiful place to come and sit and I would recommend coming. I didn't give it 5 stars because of the parking situation (I'm pretty sure I parked in student parking since this is on a campus) and because biblical angles do it look like that. They look like cultural angels but it is still beautiful. I am from out of town and it was a fun place to visit! It is fun to read the story in the Bible (Genesis 28) while you are here.
Joelle Collins — Google review
This is a very peaceful place to come sit and enjoy yourself outside. The sculpture and engravings on the rocks are beautiful. The only downside is the parking situation surrounding it as I believe it's student parking, but thankfully that campus is nice to walk around in case you need to walk a distance to the sculpture
Park setting hosting 600 animals, a safari train, giraffe feeding, classes, concessions & more.
At first when we walked in we thought it was going to be small. But this was the best zoo we have been to so far! We fed the Giraffes and ducks. We ate some Nachos and were greeted by awesome staff!!!! The exhibits are kept up and the animals are very well taken care of. We didn't realize that the rides close early and we had purchased tokens. The staff let our group ride the Carousel twice so we could use our tokens. We purchased awesome items in the shop. By far a great experience. Thank you for having our families out and giving me a awesome wedding anniversary! 😭💕

I have my zoo membership and definitely take advantage of it. When my family came to visit, they had a blast. Their favorite attraction was the giraffes 🦒 ✨️ This zoo is very clean, and animals look animated and happy. I try to take people as much as I can, especially when it's their first time. KIDS LOVE IT ❤️ and they decorate very beautifully for the holidays. With my membership, I get half price off any other zoo in the state of 6 its a win-win 😊

Very nice employees. Fast services. Clean park. Definitely family friendly with good children interactions. When feeding the giraffes, they give direct instructions. The only problem we ran into was when we brought $10 tickets but all the birds but a select few were not in the zoo due to the bird flu. So that was upsetting since they didn’t have that anywhere.

Nice little zoo. Was great that we got to feed the giraffes and many of the animals were out and about even though it’s January. Don’t miss feeding all the fish out on the dock too. Looks like they’re fixing some exhibits and updating too. Just beware, the line for the gift shop to check out can take forever.

We always have a great time visiting the Abilene Zoo. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would consider this zoo on par with larger zoos due to the affordable cost, the exhibits, and staff interactions. If you look online, you can usually find a coupons for buy one adult, a kid gets in free.

This is a great zoo! Lots to see and do for the kids and reasonably priced. Go early, like when it opens to avoid the crowd. Still isn't very crowded later in the day but I enjoyed having free reign. Must do the giraffe experience!

Wonderful small zoo! Two visits to review- January 10 and March 15, 2023. The Jan 10 visit was mid week on a warm winter weekday and we had the place practically to ourselves. Many Christmas decorations were still up to enjoy which made us want to go back in December to see it all lit up. Feeding the giraffes was so fun. Feeding the fish at the lake observation deck was enjoyable too- there was a gumball type machine for getting fish food. The March 15 visit was colder and windy and very crowded with spring break visitors. There were special shows that day to enjoy. The sand play area was enjoyed by younger children. The train and carousel were fun to do. The gift shop is large and well stocked. Parking is level, paved and ample. Near highway access and airport. A splash pad is next for summer fun. Such a great place for families to enjoy!

The Boo at the Zoo this year was wonderful! Very well run and managed, with a lot of fun activities, booths, and events. Awesome experience at the zoo! We did a "behind the scenes" experience where we met the anteater Demo and it was really informative! Our guides (Alex & Morgan) were passionate and told us a lot about the planned expansion of the zoo too. Plus, you can feed the giraffes (no reservation required!). Would for sure book a "behind the scenes" tour again!
Our docent was amazing and the house is spectacular. I had no idea about the Swenson family history and was blown away with how incredibly talented and active the owner of this home was. Each of the rooms is beautifully laid out to accentuate the families items. Even the outside grounds which, like all of our yards, needs a little bit more attention, was beautiful and excellently laid out. I highly recommend making an appointment and taking a look at this home. It is a treasure!

Visiting the Swenson house was a walk back in time. Beautiful furniture adorned with family heirlooms. Surrounding the house is one full city block with flower and a pond walkways when you’re tired, you will want to have a seat on one of several local stones. The large white Arbor in the middle of the
block is stunning. It is surrounded by.lilies, Daisies, Ferns, Hollyhocks, wisteria and many more plants A grand garden with many flowerbeds are surrounded with local stone that show off a multitude, plants and flowers.

Haunted Abilene was fantastic this year! The movie characters and decorations were spectacular! Well worth the $15. The extra scare for $5, was great for kids 13 and up.
Absolutely a beautiful historical home. I’m excited about the chance to see the Christmas decorations and take family portraits.
I have a soft heart for anything literary, so this little storybook park was a must-see while in Abilene. I imagined it being bigger than what it was, but it was still nostalgic walking through quotes from some of my favorite stories. The sculptures were super cool!

What a sweet place! It's so cute and well done, though I wish they would clear out what I assume are the added christmas "extras" of added skirts and scarves. I'm told at night it looks totally different. I bet Charlotte's Web over Wilbur looks best at night - it's a little hard to see in the daytime.
Also, don't do what I did - I parked a block away. Park in the copious convention center parking right next to it.

This was a well done garden. I enjoyed the statues and the storybook quotes on the benches. It looks like it would be quite striking at night with the twinkle lights, but I visited during the day. Great place for family in the downtown area. Beautiful layout, story book characters throughout the trail. Plenty of shades and places to rest. This is great for the downtown hotel once it finished.
Frontier Texas! is a unique museum located in Abilene which showcases exhibits on the Old West and frontier life of Texas. The museum's focus centers on the conflicts between cultures during this era, presented in a theatrical manner. The layout is well-organized and informative, with reasonable admission prices available through coupon books found in the foyer. Visitors can expect to spend around 1.5 hours exploring this educational attraction that provides insight into an important period of American history.
Can’t say enough good things about Frontier Texas. We celebrated my daughters 3rd birthday by visiting Frontier Texas on Texas Independence Day! The staff was very accommodating and made special arrangements just for us! The exhibits were fantastic and there is a huge area outside for the kids to run and play!

Unique museum in the heart of Abilene. Focuses on the life on the frontier mostly until the arrival of the trains. Conflicts between cultures. All presented in a somewhat theatrical way. Nicely laid out. Informative and entertaining for a reasonable price (note: There are coupon books to get a discount. You can find those coupon books in the foyer). Well worth a visit. I spent 1.5 hours here.

Wow! I really only came to frontier Texas to check out the Giant skull artwork, but then was absolutely blown away by the quality of the museum itself! I've been to a lot of museums! And this one packs more relevant and interesting information into a relatively small building than I've seen anywhere in the world.
As a born and bred Texan, I was surprised to learn new things here, but around every corner there was new information and a fresh re-examination of the history of Texas expansion. I didn't find it to be whitewashing any historical tragedies, nor did I find it to be exaggerating them. It seemed like an honest unbiased take on history. Very refreshing!
The artwork and sculptures were absolutely world class throughout the facility, and every inch of the place including the gift shop was amazingly well crafted.
In short don't make the mistake that I made of thinking you're going to pop in and out of this place in 15 minutes. We were here for 3 hours, and I could have stayed longer.

Really neat visitors center as you enter Abilene TX. There is a lot of great information inside about not only the town itself, which is considered to be the storybook capital, but also of TX. They have a museum you can walk through for a small fee. Our kids enjoyed checking out the giant skull they have. If you are in town you must stop in to grab a map of the town and see where all of the storybook sculptures and gardens are located. Makes for a fun family activity.

Wonderful interactive looked into history! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this museum. It was a very educational place to see & loved all the interactive tools for learning. Holographic stories from the people, an 360 theater to watch stories of the wild west. An absolute wonder place to see if you have the time! Very good price, also.

Basically the visitor center but with a really nice gift shop and lawn in the back complete with oversized (plastic) buffalo skull - it's kind of like a slide for kids. Inside, the museum/experience is fairly cheap and very high tech! There's a starting film, an ending film-in-the-round with effects and lots of pepper's ghost/hologram effects between. There's one cast of characters throughout and I only wish they didn't repeat dialogue. But overall, it's very well done and engaging. I learned about the Goodnight-Loving Trail here which I found more about as I continued my road trip north to Pueblo, CO. Just on the whole really interesting. I was told it would take 1.5 hours to go through, I think it took me only an hour or so, but I didn't press every button for every recording.
Restored vintage theater showing classic films & performing arts, available for private events.
We had our Tige kids Christmas party yesterday. Paramount is an excellent venue. We had hundreds of parents and kids attend. The staff were very accommodating and professional. Such a beautiful building and historic site. First class all the way.

Exactly what I always wanted in a theater! Such a beautiful historical theater and events venue. They have great films each year as well as hosting plays, ballets and concerts. This year we went to see White Christmas on the big screen there and it was so much great fun! Families with kids all dressed up and meeting up with friends and extended family for the movie. Tons of seating as it has multiple floors. So there’s floor seats and various balcony sections. They have a concessions in the lowest level and the upper floor of one balcony has a small drink bar at many events. Always very clean and enjoyable venue. Some events are every year and so you may need to purchase tickets ahead and head there extra early to get close parking as well as preferred seating options. We are on the mailing list and we follow them on social media to stay up to date with their upcoming events. Totally worth it and important part of the local history to support!

First class place! We saw The Nutcracker performed by the Abilene Ballet Theater, and was extremely impressed. Not only were we impressed by the show, but the Paramount has a vibe that you just don't get in modern buildings. Go. You won't be disappointed.

What a cool, historic venue! This place is a treasure. If you have a chance to see almost anything here, it's probably worth going just to check out the theater. (Ok, maybe not like a Siberian Musk-ox bellowing contest, unless that's your thing. Find something you like.)

We saw 3 Doors Down here several years ago, and Blue October last week. Great venue. The lead vocal was a bit hard to hear. Maybe they could resolve that for next show.

The Paramount is a nostalgic place from my childhood so I love just going there. And it's beautifully restored. They select excellent films for the big screen.

I can see the appeal for sure but unfortunately it wasn't for us. The screen is small and the audio was not good. We left at intermission because my wife and I were both so uncomfortable and could barely make out the sound. My daughter stayed and finished the movie though.

Went there for a rock concert. The venue is nice we lioved the asthetics of it, the ceiling had a real cool lighting effect. The sound system was on point. They however did run out of their alcoholic beverages. It was cool that they gave you a koozie with each beer purchased. I do not know if that is a regular occurrence. Regular concessions were located on the basement level. Which consisted of the "norm" for a theater.

A unique experience at one of Abilene's historical treasures.
Pappy Slokum is like a dive bar and a brewery got married and had offspring. That’s a darn good thing since I like dive bars and breweries. Their IPA has got a bit of a hop punch to it. Again, another good thing. I like the beer I drink to taste great and this one sure does taste real good. Kudos to Pappy Slokum for setting a table aside for our service members who have recently passed.

When I went in October 2020, they were still only doing to-go beer. However, we were told they would be reopening October 14th. I didn't get a chance to go inside, but got the Stripper Dust Vanilla Porter to go. I definitely liked the vanilla notes. The picnic tables in the back would be nice, in normal times. I'll have to stop by again, next time I'm in town.

First time going and I completely recommend it for others. It is a great family friendly environment that makes you feel right at home. I couldn't tell who were regular costumers and who worked there from the love shown between the staff and friends that have been made with this place. Everyone was proud to wear the Pappy shirts and you could tell the pride that has been put into the place. I'm not even a beer drinker and thought the two beers me and a friend split were really good. Even the food truck was exceptionally wonderful. If you can't tell I was really suprised.

I go here with my brother when he is in town and it never fails me! I have a great time! This is a place that is not open long and only one day but the beer is awesome, the people are friendly and you are in a brewery! It is really cool!
If you want to stop in - best check the hours, I was taking pictures of this awesome car and forgot to take pictures of the place dang it! I do love it there though. It's a come as you are place and people do. Dogs are welcome too. That is a place that I will be taking mine so she can mingle with the other dogs there and get some socializing in. Do stop by and always say hello to the help, they are awesome cool!
Pappy Slokum Brewery a great place to be on a Saturday!

This is a fun brewery to visit. Not many amenities like most breweries, but the atmosphere is fun and inviting. Their beer is very good. They clearly know what they are doing. Food is provided by a food truck that parks out back. A very enjoyable place to go. They would get more of a rating for me if they had longer hours. I have visited Abilene multiple times and it has been hard to catch these guys open.

What a great time! Stopped by on our way through with our toddler and dog. Kids and dogs are welcome! Delicious food, great people, great beer, such a welcoming, friendly place, and I can't state enough how awesome it was to find a dog friendly place so our dog could stretch his legs too.
The Mill Wine Bar & Event Center is an old-fashioned windmill that stands tall above a charming and trendy wine bar. In addition to offering craft beer, they also serve delicious starters and desserts. The atmosphere is delightful, with a rustic-chic vibe that creates a unique experience. It's a great place to relax and have conversations without having to shout over the noise. The setup of the bar is visually pleasing, and they even offer free tastings for their patrons.
The only table service is when they bring your ordered food to your table, but for ALL drinks, you have to go inside.
Food was good but pricey for what you get. The drinks are moderately priced, though.
The atmosphere is definitely what you are paying for!! It is a very tranquil and relaxing space to enjoy drinks with friends. Very cute setting!

Came here with my boyfriend to celebrate our valentines early. There was live music, which ended about 15 minutes after we arrived. I was a little disappointed to sit there in silence for the next hour. The artichoke dip was not enjoyable at all. We were warned that the dip was “spicy”… there was no spice or any good flavors coming from that dip. I’d come back but hopefully receive better quality food. Atmosphere was beautiful.

It's all about the atmosphere. In fact, I think the atmosphere makes the food tastes even better, mostly snack foods, but their special even foods are great too. Great wine selection. A wonderful place for Abilene to have for the couples who want a romantic date.

Absolutely terrific place for small plates and amazing wine tasting experience inside or outside. Monthly yoga inside the large room adjacent to the winery. Very cool spot with a killer vibe to just chill and sip wine all afternoon or evening. The staff are impeccable. All of the women who run this show are class acts. Professional and kind and knowledgeable. The 4 keg tap wines they have available as well as by the bottle are vast. They even offer a wine bottle tap fill program just like beer growlers but for wine. They also offer a long beer listing with a growler program as well. All round solid place to come and experience if you in town. Military discounts as well! The house sangria is a summer hit I'm sure of this! Try it and see.

RUDE STAFF. I will NEVER come back to this place. The woman that took our order was rude from the moment we walked in and continued with her bad attitude throughout our visit. Just a word of advice to you, when you "apologize" in the future maybe remember that any apology that includes the word "but" and you continue to go on about how you weren't wrong is NOT an apology.
This is a lovely place that was completely ruined by the AWFUL service we received.

The Grace Museum is a unique venue located in Abilene, Texas that boasts an extensive collection of artwork and photographs related to the state's history. Housed in a former hotel built in 1909, the museum offers visitors a glimpse into Texas' vibrant past through its special exhibits and permanent displays. Known for its beautiful event space, the staff at The Grace Museum go above and beyond to ensure that every event held there is memorable.
The staff at the Grace were super accommodating and very friendly. We recently rented the rooftop for a small picnic for a going away party for some friends.. Thomas (I think that was his name) worked us in last minute and even took time to snap a few pictures for us. We really appreciated them, highly recommend the Grace for your event, big or small!

What a beautiful museum! Small, but I love being able to see inside the old hotel. There are art galleries on the first two floors, a super fun kid's space on the second floor, and more local history on the third. I really enjoyed it and learning more about Abilene! The original train station is right across the street and several of the storybook character statues are in the immediate area. There is dedicated parking for the museum, "behind" the hotel (opposite from the front corner entrance), both covered and uncovered. I found plenty of street parking as well right on the corner. There's a coffee shop and restaurant nearby that looked like they were serving at 10 am.

Our family of seven visited The Grace in the morning. Our five children had an amazing time discovering all the kinds of art they could make in the play zone. The VW Bug was a huge hit for our three-year-old. Our seven-year-old loved the stage area and the Astronaut costumes. Our eight-year-old was amazed by the touchscreen draw creator. And our five-year-old and six-year-old loved the play centers.
The art installations on communication and the arts were beautifully displayed and the children found them most interesting.
The period rooms and the hotel room would have looked like at The Grace for was very interesting and was loved and cared for.
I enjoyed the dresses and many types of hand fans.
We could not have been more entertained by this outing.
It was also a great place to be out of the hot sun.

Stopped in Abilene for a few hours and popped into this little museum. It’s a combination of art, kid’s stuff, and history.
The building was originally built to be a hotel, and the third floor has some history about it.
The lady working the front desk was super nice and informative. She explained the layout of the museum since it was my first visit. I also asked for recommendations for the city, and she was very helpful with things to see and eat.

The National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature is a delightful museum that showcases original artwork from celebrated children's book illustrators. Each quarter, the spotlight is on one artist and their work is accompanied by the corresponding storybook. The museum also features black and white photos of previously highlighted authors. Admission to this hidden gem in Abilene is by donation only, and visitors can enjoy the wonderful bookstore as well as charming children's book statues outside of the building. It's definitely worth a visit!
We loved this place. So relaxed, so just chilled out. The way this is laid out you have all the room in the world and you can just mosey around and enjoy the art. We got to see a retrospective of the centers exhibits. So amazing this is a jewel. Also the gift shop has many signed editions for sale. Highly recommended.

Oh my gooodness this park and the sculpture walk was awesome. We were in town on a misty/rainy day. There were a few groups of people out enjoying the sculptures at the park and strolling the streets. Abilene downtown has a neat feel. There’s fun boutiques, hat shops and a Texas Novelty store. The Paramount Theater was playing “Its a Wonderful Life.” I mean… come on 🥰

The 12th Armored Division Memorial is a military museum with three floors dedicated to showcasing exhibits on the division's involvement in World War II. What sets this museum apart from others is that all displays come from veterans of the 12th, providing a personal touch as visitors learn about the men and women who served through their pictures and stories. The Holocaust room is particularly moving, and the price of admission is reasonable.
Very cool! Little museum in Abilene downtown. History of the 12th armored division army unit and work it in World war II. Very sombering. There's a section about the concentration camps but it was very interesting as well. She's short two block walk to Monk's coffee shop so check it out. $24 for a family of four. Two adults, two kids.
Kimber Beck — Google review
I've been to fancier museums before. This one has something unique: All of the displays come from veterans of the 12th. That gives the museum a lot of personable character as you try to get to know the men and women who served through their pictures (it's mostly pictures) and stories. I spent 1.5 hours here, but I am nerdy and tend to read everything. Most people who just look at the pictures can do that in a half hour. The holocaust room was very moving. Price is very reasonable for the museum. Convenient location.
One suggestion to the staff: The diorama room in the basement would have a better effect if you had very low battle sounds playing so it feels like the war is nearby.

My sister and I attended the 76th reunion of the 12th Arm. Division Assoc. in our father's memory. He served with this Division during WWII (flew as a Forward Air Observer) and his 25 years of Army papers are housed in this museum.
This was my 3rd visit to the museum and enjoyed the new exhibits.

As others have said, this place has a TON of information to read plastered all over museum. After you explore the upper floors go to the basement and check out the diorama displays, they are very well done. You'll def. see and read/learn some interesting tidbits at this museum.

Very Interesting but a lot of inconsistencies in spelling of French city names! Even in the same paragraph. For example: It’s Le Havre ! Not la Havre and not le Harve. They could at least check. What else is incorrect that I didn’t catch…
And they definitely need chairs or benches along the visit. If we read everything it takes one hour per story. We need a break and sit down.
Needs some improvement to make the experience more enjoyable

Pictures cannot do justice. There's three levels of this museum and be prepared to read a lot! There's a lot of interesting photos as well so give yourself plenty of time to browse. I've never been to Abilene so be aware it's nestled right in downtown. Great museum!

This museum contains a decent collection of equipment and weapons used by both American and German forces during that period. There are a few vehicles out back including a Sherman and mock Tiger I turret which you don't get to see too often. The large scale dioramas in the basement was quite interesting, chronicling specific engagements on a miniature scale. A few areas felt somewhat lacking though, like simple photos with a few lines of text on a plain white wall (almost something you see on a wiki page), I feel this might improve in the future with more interest to this location. That said, while this museum is far from being the best, it's still a must for any WWII enthusiasts and worth the $5 admission price. Go check it out!

The animals are very clearly not taken care of. This poor dove has been pulling its feathers out due to stress. The reptiles are enclosed in spaces entirely too small and have no where to climb or hide. Truly heartbreaking. I don’t recommend giving them any of your money. It clearly doesn’t go to the care of these animals.

Great little gem of a museum in the heart of Abilene. Exhibits are free, but a donation is recommended. Great place to spend an afternoon and learn about the Titanic (did you know they guy who found it lived in Abilene?), Israel, The Ark and so much more. They have a few animals that are hands on and a cool mini sandbox for the kids. They also have a summer camp that my son loved. They even had the kids 'dig' for fossils. They offer so much information, you won't have time to do everything. It's a great way to keep the kids entertained without all the money. Bonus fact: they have a Woolly Mammoth tooth, you'll have to check out. Be prepared, you will have to plan multiple trips!

My wife and I took our 3 daughters here on Saturday. I was looking for something to do with the girls and found this little gem. It was an almost 2 hour drive from home so I hoped it would be worth it. The center opened at 1pm so we had plenty of time to get there. We were greeted by Marsha when we got there and could tell right away this was a good choice. This place is packed full of knowledge and between Marsha and Connie, they can blow your mind with information. We spent 3 hours looking around, watching short films, talking to a parrot and shopping in the book shop. I am surprised I had never heard of this shop before but they have been here for years! Go visit and learn how dinosaurs and dragons fit into the Bible! Let's support this business and businesses like this one. Especially in times like today that we are having identity problems in this world!

This is not science, nor education, nor truth. What your children are going to be exposed to is a predetermined narrative supported by selective facts. We all are free to believe what we want, but don’t call it science. Call it what it is — religion. Our children are already falling behind in math and science. This is not helping.

This a great place to go and learn about Creation, Israel, and the Titanic.
The people are super friendly and give out great information on any thing you have questions about. They have short movies on information about Creation, Israel, and the Titanic. The Dinasour fossils are so neat. The scrolls that had writing on deer skin were Amazing, as well as the replica of the Ark of the Covenant.
They have a parrot that talks, and is so incredibly smart. A robot that tells how old you are - down to the seconds, And gives you a print out of it, and another one that tells you the meaning of your name. A HUGE chair for you to take your picture by.
And a book store to buy T-shirts or books and things for kids. All in all a great place to go with family, friends, or just to get away from your same old routine.
My son and I really enjoyed it, and thought it was very informational. I'm so glad we have it Abilene!!
