Everyone working at Crystal Grotto was so friendly and knowledgeable. We went on a Friday in April and had just missed a tour group, but only waited 15-20 minutes for the next. The caverns were not very busy that afternoon and we were able to have a tour with just 2 other people.
The care taken by the team to educate tourists and preserve the caverns is remarkable.

Quick little tour below. The temp is a little low, but not too bad. The best part but far was the commentary and history but Matt.. if you like full corny/campy, this is your place. Yes, in Nerd and brought in an air monitor. Good ventilation, but with so many people I did see a small drop in oxygen levels, but nothing serious for the time in the cave.

Super cool and really happy we went while it was decorated for Halloween. I guess they only have the colorful lights up during this time, otherwise it's just white lights, which I imagine don't give it as much dimension and make things pop as much. Tour guide was adorable and sweet and very knowledgeable. Had a good time.

A great little adventure! Tour is about 35 minutes and $20/person. The guide was amusing and very knowledgeable about the caverns. The tour was cool, and pathways were well-maintained throughout. Photos allowed but no video. Bring a jacket, some parts were a little chilly and there may be a little water dripping from the cave ceiling. Overall enjoyed seeing the otherworldly-looking rock formations!

Today was my first time visiting crystal grottoes. My tour guide was Mack. He was very friendly and answered all the questions I asked. The Grottoes were beautiful and I highly recommend going. It’s $20 for adult and that’s a decent price.
Thanks again 😊

Nice cave system. Took about 45 minutes. Your guide was good. Parking is gravel so not motorcycle friendly. A little pricey at $24 per person.

Had a fantastic time and learned a lot! Unbelievable history and views. Opened my teenage sons eyes to a whole new world. Price is definitely fair and had a great guide even with a large group. Can't believe we only saw a third of it. Some people before us were complaining that it wasn't wheelchair accessible and caused a big fit. Hello, it's a cave!! 53° down there, nice and cool. Check it out, you won't regret it.

Lovely Caverns! Perfect for the price & great tour guides (we had Jonathan & Mac). Stick around for a bit to talk with the staff and see the area- gorgeous on a nice day! Word of caution: it can be narrow in many places and has some spots with low ceilings to walk under. I had my toddler in a carrier & we just barely fit in some spots (as reference). We were fine with it but if you have issues with spaces like this then you may want to sit out the tour. We loved our cavern tour & highly recommend to everyone who comes into town!

Mac was an excellent tour guide. Very knowledgeable and filled with stories and humor. He made the experience very unique and fun. The whole experience was amazing and highly recommended. Incredible caves! Thank you all and especially Mac!

We had a wonderful time in the caverns! Mac was our tour guide, and like the reviews say, he knows his stuff! He's informative, funny, and most importantly, kept our large group from knocking themselves out on the low ceilings! Make sure you bring a little extra scratch and tip this man cause he's worth it!

My daughter had a blast. Our tour guide I believe her name was Taylor was fantastic. My daughter even got some one on one time with the gem panning. I have a hard time taking her places because she doesn't do well in crowds or where she needs to stay calm. But she was beyond behaved didn't touch a single thing and paid attention to everything around her. I would definitely bring her back.

Very cool little place.... literally. About 54° year round in the caves, so a light jacket, sweater or hoodie may work. Tours are about 45 minutes long and they only take one group at a time. So, if you have to wait for a few, there's a creek, several outside sitting areas and a gift shop with restrooms. Our guide was very knowledgeable and possessed a great personality. Our 10 yo grandson loved it. $20/adult and $10/child.
Dennis Straley — Google review
I came here with my kids who are 9 and 7 as just something to do while it was raining outside. I had heard of this place but never really had an opportunity to go. We decided to make the 1.5 hour trek as my son has never been to a cavern before.
As we pull up, it is essentially an old house with ample parking. I was nervous that there wouldn't be many people but I am glad I was wrong. The tours have gotten more frequent as more crowds have started coming by. The lobby is a small foyer essentially with 2 bathrooms. The bathrooms are very nice, for the record. They do sell water but it would be nice if they offered more drinks or snacks. The gift shop is essentially the same foyer area with 2 glass cabinets.
The cavern can only be seen with a tour guide which is nice. We were in a party of 21. For those who have been to other caverns, this is much smaller and much more congested with about 50% of the cavern being probably at a height of about 5 feet high. The tour guide was nice and unfortunately had to scold some younger kids who were a bit rowdy but I honestly felt it was warranted as it is a small area where there are delicate formations and if by chance someone did get hurt, it would be very difficult to get help.
I do think kids would like it but if your kids are hyperactive or very touchy, this may not be the best cavern for them. The tour itself probably lasted 40 minutes and we all move together in a group. The guide turns off the lights once we move past an area to decrease the chance of algae colonizing. The pace was great and there is a lot of information on this tour.
I really enjoyed myself and my kids did as well. I have no regrets. I would say that if you are tall or have balance problems or are even claustrophobic, this isn't a great cavern for you. Once we exited the cavern which is actually a different place than the entrance, you have an option to buy a sand kit where you cam sift the sand for items. It is commercial and there is a guaranteed set number of things in each kit, but the kids loved it. The items in the gift shop don't say anything branded and are general gem items but they are extremely reasonably priced.
Overall, it was worth it and I would come again. The cave is still be excavated and it seems the owners are intent on expanding if possible. Definitely worth it.
Vasu Balu — Google review
The tour was cool. I was expecting the cavern to be bigger but the cavern is pretty nice still. Maybe they could’ve done smaller groups so that way people aren’t left behind. Overall it was a fun experience.

Visited these lovely, well preserved and protected cave with teens, adult, and mature adult. Very lovely, well maintained and fairly accessible as caves go. Tour guide and tour host both were very knowledgeable and made it interesting and FUN!

I’ve lived in this area for over a decade and never visited - when I finally did today, I was surprised by both the size of the caverns and the professionalism of the tour guide. Christie was both knowledgeable and entertaining, and made the tour fun for a younger visitor. I definitely recommend stopping and seeing the cave system!

Oatlands Historic House & Gardens is a centuries-old property that showcases the lives of its owners and the slaves who helped maintain it. The site features old buildings, gardens, walkways, statues, and garden structures dating back to the 1800s. It also has a bowling green, rose and herb gardens, and a reflection pool added in the 1900s.
My husband and I visited early spring. Love the layout of the gardens and flowers already blooming. It was so much fun to walk around and enjoy the gardens. We will definitely be going back. We went on the weekend and it wasn't too crowded, but this wasn't peak season. A lot of daffodils were blooming along with a couple of weeping cherry trees and bushes. I imagine the gardens are even more gorgeous once they are completely in bloom.

The 200 plus years old mansion still looks impressive from today's eye. The open up and down landscape with various old trees seems have a lot of stories to tell. I would imagine that it be even more gorgeous when the leaves are colored in the fall.

A great little piece of Virginia and American history. The Plantation is spread out among many buildings but still a easy walk. Lots of trails if you like walking. Loved the garden.

What a hidden gem! Our trip to Oatlands was wonderful. We showed up with 1 hour left until closing, which was enough time for us to check out the exterior of the mansion and enjoy the garden. We also had the pleasure of meeting Rita, who was so friendly and knowledgeable. She shared such valuable information about the estate and its history. Thank you for making our first visit so memorable, Rita. We look forward to returning in the fall!
Safrina Yacoub — Google review
The tour is very informative about the life and practices of the owners over the last 3 centuries. Exceptional knowledgeable guides. The mansion is not wheelchair accessible and there are no restrooms in the building. There are restrooms and a small gift shop in the carriage house that is within walking distance. Children under the age of 10 may find the mansion tour rather boring. The grounds are beautiful in fine weather.

Want a rural wedding venue that isn't far from the conveniences of DC? Then check out Oatlands Historic House & Gardens! You'll get all the beauty and gorgeous Northern Virginia landscape of a location in the middle of nowhere. But you'll be just a few miles from Leesburg, and your out-of-town guests will have a pretty short commute from Dulles Airport.
Oatlands has a lot more to offer than convenience, though. Its gardens give you so many spots for beautiful wedding portraits. There are shady little nooks where you can cuddle up for romantic photos. There is a lovely pool that is ideal for creating trippier reflection pictures of you and your spouse-to-be. And there is a huge cherry blossom tree that gives your portraits that authentic and indelible "DC" feel in the spring. Perhaps the coolest feature, though, is the little gazebo and hedge-lined tunnel behind the main ceremony space. If your wedding timeline includes a first look, you won't find a more beautiful location anywhere in the DMV!
Oh, and one more thing. The staff is absolutely first-rate! Friendly, helpful and accommodating!

We were invited to a VIP reception by a friend on the Board of Directors. The day was perfect. We arrived right at 6pm and were directed to a great parking spot close to the entrance gate.
We were greeted and given our badges, then grabbed drinks before browsing through the food displays. There was a string quartet playing, which seemed completely appropriate.
Presentations were made on the history, with the gardens highlighted, along with an early case of "one upmanship" between the brothers over their respective homes.
We toured the grounds, then the interior of an outbuilding and the main house. Things were rather well kept, without being overly restored. An enjoyable visit.

It was a good experience. The tour was fine. The house is beautiful and the history is interesting. Our guide struggled with facts, recalling information and giving the information in a sequence that could be followed; however, he incorporated history without whitewashing it completely. The tea was good. We were surprised there was not a choice of teas, as we were use to teas where you choose between a few. There was plenty of food - savory and sweet and quite a variety! Nothing special about the jams or butters. It was a nice experience.

Beautiful gardens, with the most aromatic flowers!
I have read that smells are associated with memories, and this is where I felt it. A rose that reminded me of my grandparents home.
Beautiful scenery all around.

Live music venue
Concerts & Shows
Outdoor concert amphitheater (formerly Nissan Pavilion) seating 10,000 with 15,000 more on the lawn.
This is a great concert venue! I came here with my family. I surprised my boyfriend in the parking lot with tickets to Breaking Benjamin and Alice in Chains for his birthday. He thought we were just going to dinner and was very confused when we pulled in to Jiffy Lube Live. The venue is huge, and we were at the very top of the stands and still jad a great view. There are even more seats behind there on the lawn, and since it's all on a hill, there's nowhere that has a bad view. There are food and beverage vendors when you get through the gates. I got a yummy veggie burger and fries, and my boyfriend had several different beers that he liked. The prices for food and drinks are very steep, so be warned. Maybe eat before you come and just get drinks if anything. There was also tons of parking, and even with there being lots of people, it was quick and easy to get out after. The concert was fantastic and we had a blast!

Incredible concert!!!!
The sound was not great, it had a heavy echo and hard to understand when they tried to talk. Definitely needs to be adjusted.
Buy the premium parking, we were out of the lot after concert within 3 minutes. Buy the refill cup, its worth it.
Seats are tight!!!! Be prepared to have your neighbors sweaty thighs rubbing with yours. Its hot and the bathrooms are like a sauna.
Health concern, vomit on ground in several spots. Beware and they don't wash or clean it. So don't sit or touch grounds without looking first.

Watched Santana live yesterday, out here 😍
The show was just awesome and Santana knows how to get the crowd going! I couldn’t see an empty seat anywhere! About the venue itself, it is built for such massive scale shows and lights and acoustics were good. All the required facilities were available and accessible. The security was tight - as it should be. Traffic was a bit of a problem - so please leave early to the venue. Closer to the show - traffic is barely moving.
People were having fun all over the place and it was good to be here! Upcoming shows here are good - so get yourself going for it!

I went to see Volbeat back in 2019 and Ozzfest in 2000 here. Pretty nice place to see a concert. There was a walk from the parking lot to the event center, but not bad at all. The line to go in moved extremely fast and no wait. Beer is obviously gonna be overpriced but I still got a few. Overall great experience both times I’ve gone here. Will be seeing more shows in the future here. Sorry pictures were from my old horrible phone.

Just like airports and theme parks, they price gouge you for everything. But the bathrooms are clean. For an outdoor concert venue, it was very nice. I've never seen so many ads play on the big screens before, which was kind of annoying, I'm not sure if that was a venue choice or if the bands were sponsored by these ads, probably the venue...
Xenophod — Google review
It's a great venue to see a show! They get great performances in there and it's not too far from home. The venue is set up beautifully. The lawn seats are great and give off a really festive party atmosphere. Great access to food and drink. Bathrooms are always relatively clean.
My complaints are this. The prices for EVERYTHING are too high. $17 for a craft beer and $22 for a mixed cocktail is completely insane. They also do need to work on their parking situation because leaving the concert afterwards is like complete chaos.
Jennie Jen — Google review
One of my favorite music venues! So much better than Merriweather! Parking is easy. Tailgating is allowed and they provide bathrooms. Everything is easy to find. Beverage choices aren't great and very pricey, though. Never have long lines at the bathrooms.

Attending the Matchbox 20 concert at Jiffy Lube Live was akin to biting into a gourmet burger, only to realize the bun's a tad stale – fantastic but not without its flaws. Matchbox 20’s performance was every bit of amazing, reminding us of the band's timeless talent. The vocals, instrumental synchronization, and the overall ambiance was truly top-notch. The stage was ablaze with energy, and each song invoked a swirl of nostalgia that had the crowd singing at the top of their lungs.
However, the proverbial stale bun of the evening? The parking. Man, it was as if someone designed it as a test of patience for concertgoers. Jiffy Lube Live, your shows are outstanding, but navigating the parking labyrinth was a misadventure that tested the Zen of even the calmest souls. In short, if you're seeking an auditory treat with a side of parking chaos, this venue's got you covered. Rock on, Matchbox 20, but maybe next time, I'll catch you closer to home. 😉

This is definitely a great venue! Over the years, it has grown, and the lawn is pretty big but also pretty far away. Parking is also a hike and takes a long time to get out after the show, depending on where you park. Other than that, I have to say the crew does an amazing job keeping things moving and making sure there is plenty to drink and eat. Place is clean, and sound is phenomenal no matter where you are sitting. The 3 large screens also allow people in the WAY back to see. They also have tickets available for people who want to arrive early and tailgate. Overall, great experience in a great location. Definitely recommend for a show.

Went to see Thomas Rhett and unfortunately I was in a boot and on crutches. I was walking to my seat and Donna asked me if I didn't have enough space they would move me to the handicapped section. I didn't have enough space and Donna was super helpful in getting me accommodated in the handicap section. I was able to elevate my foot, remain sitting and still be able to see the concert. I'm so thankful she asked me, otherwise I don't know if I would have enjoyed the concert as much. Thank you, Donna for going above and beyond to make my experience enjoyable! ❤ 🙏🏼

This venue is always great. They keep all the areas clean, there are enough bathrooms for everyone, and they offer beverages and food. The also have carts to take you closer to the seating waiting at the gates in case you are injured or disabled. Make sure if you bring a bag in that it is clear or very small. They will make you leave backpacks in the car. I always have a great time when I come here. The bands are always on fire and the venue is great.
We saw Plush, Bush, Breaking Benjamin, and Alice in Chains last night. It was spectacular! All the bands were Amazing! Will definitely be coming back here to see more bands.

Parking was HORRIBLE to say the least. Entered the lot, attendant had me go straight toward the back/right because I have a handicap placard. When I get back there, next attendant says I can't park back there because I didn't have a white card stating it belonged to me. Advised me to go back up to the other side for handicap parking. I drive all the way around there for the next attendant to say go left and make a u turn(mind you it was cars coming in from that direction as well). When I make said u turn and sit in a traffic line for 10 minutes, another attend then comes and says the handicap lot is full🙄. I ask him where can I park and he says go left and all the way to the back. When I proceed to do just that, I see at least 40 spots....40. I ask another attend can I park over there...bless her heart, it was her first day so she really didn't know. Not gonna lie, she went to find someone over her and after waiting 5 minutes, I just found a spot and parked🤷🏾♀️. Lawn seats were great except for the excessive weed smoking🙄. Getting out of the lot took about 1 hour so there's that.
My suggestions would be to pay for upgraded parking and STILL get there early

Great venue if you’re looking for a mid-sized concert, which is about my speed these days. I highly recommend getting access to the VIP lounge area. They’ve got good food and table service for drinks before and during the concerts.

This place was amazing for the Odesza concert. The venue was packed and the seating was great! I read reviews prior to going and we had decided to purchase Early parking. There was hardly any traffic when we got there and when we left the traffic was not bad. We were back on the highway heading home within 15 minutes after the concert ended. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money for parking if you can, it's absolutely worth it!

I saw Fall out boy here and it was my first time. There were screens for lawn attendees and there is plenty of parking. They need to do better on directing people into the venue for parking – traffic was at a standstill for a while. Getting out went more smoothly, though - it only took 10 minutes and everyone zipper merged flawlessly. I did leave early and walk as quickly as I could back to my car.

- nice venue, sound quality is great, seats, lawn, and pit area. Has food and drinks.
- tickets vary depending on what you're seeing and all.
- food and drinks prices are pretty high, like $5 for a liquid death and $30 for a mix drink.
- plenty of parking.
- staff are very friendly.
- good lighting and stage pyrotechnics when used.
- overall a good experience each time I see a show here. I'd recommend this location.

We came for a Nickleback/ Brantley Gilbert concert in the latter part of August 2023 on a Saturday afternoon/night.
Being there were apparently 20K people there, traffic was understandly backed up, and it took us an hour and a half to get to the venue, and that was driving the 6miles to get there.
They had ample parking for everyone-we were parked way out in F-lot. One thing that could be better is the event staff parking directions/having people out there when everyone leaves. People were frustrated and cutting one another off or being aggressive in trying to merge 3 and 4 times before we even got out of the parking lot. If someone was managing the merging, traffic would have moved more efficiently. It took us 1hour to get out of the parking lot.
The venue is cashless and lines to get through enter and security were quick. It took maybe a minute to get through both-this was at 630 (show start time).
Drinks are okay priced, and they only have cans. I was surprised at the ease of getting in and out of the ladies rest room as it was quite large with 2 entrances.
The seats are small for an average sized person and there's no cup holder so I saw a lot of spilled beverages, but there is room to get through the aisles.
During the show, the people next to us had a tiff with another person. Event staff were quick to respond and calm everyone down. The older gentleman who I think was a supervisor put up with a lot from some of the concertgoers and deserves a shout-out.

The positives: I was satisfied with my seats in the Orchestra section. Workers were helpful, kept the aisles clear and were on top of things. VIP parking was excellent. Bathrooms were also large and not too bad.
The negatives: The food worker spoke zero English. I felt bad for him and don't blame him, but it made it difficult for both me and him and I know the venue was probably paying him minimum wage while charging $9 for a water.
VIP parking was expensive but I knew that was the only way I'd get in and out without dealing with an absolute mess.

Great Jelly Roll Concert. Clean bathrooms with fast moving line. Great mixed drinks at bar, but $15 beer was my only gripe in an otherwise great time at a great venue. Also, traffic is the same as it has always been getting in and out for years, but that was to be expected with Jelly Roll Backwoods Baptism Tour 2023 selling almost 23K seats in a sellout. I have never seen the lawn packed with as many people as I did this show. Great local venue with a solid booking lineup for summer 2023.

21,000 dead in America's deadliest one day battle. The visitor center is under construction so you have to go to the temporary site. It does have a good movie though.. as I drove and stopped at the 10 tour stops I walked in the sunken road or as it's called BLOODY LANE. When there climb the tower and get a good look at the battlefield. The go to Burnside's bridge to look at history over a peaceful stream.

Fantastically preserved battlefield. I stopped on a Sunday, got my passport stamp and decided to do a self guided tour following the easy to locate signs along the roads throughout the park. The visitor center was under construction but the temporary one was just as good. I spent nearly two hours at the park but needed much more time. At least a day to see everything and probably longer to actually walk the many trails they have. I will be making my way back again as soon as I can to this wonderful park.

Beautiful area with lots of sad history. At the time of my visit the visitor center was still being built. They do have a temporary with a small selection of souvenirs and some rangers on duty. They were friendly able to square me away with a military park pass.
The auto tour is easy to follow and takes you past all the monuments. Each stop has lots of placards with battle and Army unit information.
Added bonus: today I learned that Antietam is the birthplace of the Red Cross. See the added photosphere.
Definitely a place worth checking out.

Wicked piece of history for everyone to visit and enjoy. A must see for any American who wants to learn about history or any history buffs. It's also beautiful nature fields now too. So many historical sites to visit and plaques to read and learn more about American history. Hours of endless fields to walk around and cannons and buildings to explore and read about. Free to visit and for everyone to enjoy :)

We have a National Parks Pass so decided to try this park out (normally $20 a car). The permanent visitor center is under construction so they have a temporary center that is about what you would expect (ex. the "theater" showing the movie is now a TV and folding chairs) - IMO the only real reason to stop until the new one is ready is to visit the gift shop or bathroom....and apparently to voluntarily pay your park fee? I stopped in to show my card and get the map, but I never showed anything to anyone anywhere and never saw any park personnel outside the visitor center. That said, it was the first Monday in March and maybe saw a total of 10 people in my whole visit, which was lovely in and of itself. So, IDK, I guess a certain type of person loves these battlefield sites, and it isn't really me. I definitely appreciate the preservation of the park and having the undeveloped land. They have a handful of decorative cannons thrown about and LOTS of plaques about General XYZ attacked this direction at 7AM type stuff, but other than that, not sure what a tourist does here (particularly if you have kids to be entertained, god help you). I suppose this is for war buffs and people super familiar with the battle details. Of course, the cemetery is a deserving memorial to the incredible number of lives lost. The land is pretty in this area with rolling hills and distant mountains, so I took a lot of the hiking trails (which were marginally marked, didn't match the trail path on the map, and most of which just walk through open fields) and still had done everything in 4-hours. Overall I am happy we have the NPS and while this park isn't one of my favorites for revisiting purposes, I am sure there are others who enjoy it.

A must visit for American History enthusiasts! Definitely worth the $10 price of admission. There are many monuments dedicated to troops from Delaware, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, etc. and just a handful of Confederate monuments. Antietam reminds me of a smaller Gettysburg which is a good thing because the landscape isn’t overwhelmed with too many monuments and memorials. The visitor center was in a temporary building as the new visitor center will be up in the fall of 2022. They have a Junior Ranger program for the kids. I’d recommend at least two days here but a lot can be covered with the driving tour. The battlefields are very well maintained. Make sure to visit Burnside Bridge and the Observation Tower!

Went on a Friday, rangers and staff were so helpful and friendly. Pointed out many different things to see. Self guided auto tour was very easy to follow. Temporary visitors center is adequate, but the new center looks like it will be wonderful! The stops along the tour are very well maintained. Whole tour gives the scope of the bloody battle that took place here. Loved going up the observation tower to look out over everything. Well worth the $10 per person/$20 per car admission, plus it's good for 3 days!

I've been visiting this historical landmark since I was a child, and now I take my kids here for a history lesson. It's such a beautiful, but haunting place, full of educational resources, landscapes, beautiful statues, and memorials for the fallen soldiers. It's definitely one stop you shouldn't miss. The 4th of July was always a great time, with the free fireworks show and orchestra. I'll always be back.

This is a favorite hike for my children and I. Many different trails for different skill levels, including paved roads to cruise through the park or for handicap accessibility. Plenty of parking. Yours available. Recently remodeled visitor center. Lots of historic sites to see and things to learn.

Great place of history. So surreal of a place. To imagine that so many died for what they believed. It's hard to believe that so many men fought and died in such a small area.
Mark Amidon — Google review
Excellent. To be able to walk the fields as they were for the most part is awesome. Being here puts a lot more perspective on the actual battle as far as the terrain. I had no idea it was so hilly and wide open.
The ranger staff was great. They helped me figure out the accompanying videos online for some of the stops.

We arrived and stopped at the temporary visitor center. There is construction at the real visitor center but the temporary one was laid out very well with a gift shop, maps, displays , a movie presentation , and friendly informative park rangers. & rest rooms. We started the auto tour and listened to the app ( qr code can be scanned in visitor center) at each tour stop. We started at the Dunkin Church. You can go in and look around. We continued to the rest of the tour stops. This is a very interesting tour and the videos for each stop really gave a lot of info. Excellent views and scenery. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to see all the stops and listen to the videos. Great preservation of history. ( entry fee was $20 for one car and was worth it).

There is a tempo visitor center at the moment (6/22/23) while they remodel the original building. Enjoyed the starting video and we spent a little over two hours on the driving tour. Loved the view from the tower that was built.

This park was great. We were there yesterday and it was the first day the new park office was open. It was really well done and a very nice building. We enjoyed the exhibits and the movie, and the park was not busy at all. Then, we came back in the evening to walk the paths, take pictures and see the park. During that part of the trip, we saw 2 other cars the entire time. It was a very nice visit and we would definitely come back.

Really good location for a day trip. Lots of historical monuments and placards to give historical relevancy to all the locations on the tour.
Such a beautiful area it's hard to reconcile it with the fact that it used to be such a bloody battlefield.

Fantastic experience! The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The grounds were well kept. I especially enjoyed hiking the Cornfield and West Woods trails (unpaved). Really gives a sense of what the soldiers faced in terms of terrain during the battle. The gift shop was small, but good. Very good selection of books considering the size of the shop.

Great battlefield to visit! Very well preserved and fantastic views and backdrops. The audio tour is great, however cell service is very scare in places so that made preparation from stop to stop slightly challenging.
You do have to pay to visit this battlefield. Its kind of odd and unless you do your homework ahead of time, you wouldn't know that very easily. You have to stop in the visitors center and play the honor system to get a ticket. Not sure how that's regulated since there are several different entrances to the battlefield. Regardless, its worth the admission and it goes to keeping the battlefield in the great condition you see it.
Be prepared to take lots of pictures and spend some time getting from stop to stop around the battlefield. Even though its a lot of steps, it is absolutely worth going to the top of the tower. The view is incredible up there!
I visited in the spring time, but I would have to assume its one of the prettiest places in the country during the fall.
History fan or not, its a place worth seeing for what impact it had on our country!

Such a neat place with such an important history and not nearly as busy / crowded as Gettysburg. We didn’t have as much time as I would have liked - we spent 2 hrs- could have easily doubled that. The visitors center is quite small, but very interesting. Not to mention the drive to get there is absolutely beautiful.

We loved our visit here! Visited on a cold windy day in January, but the whole family found things they enjoyed exploring and learning about (Inc. Clara Barton info, where soldiers came from to serve, the bridge and tree that was there during the fighting)
Catoctin Creek Distilling Company is a family-owned distillery that specializes in producing organic whiskey, gin, and brandy. The company offers tours, tastings, and bottles to their customers. The staff members are friendly and knowledgeable about the products they offer and the history of the building they occupy. They also allow customers to sample off-menu items to help them decide what to take home.
Dropped by for a taste of whiskey that I couldn’t find at the ABC Store. Friendly staff here with a large tasting room. Tried the Rye Whiskey with Hot Honey. A little burn from the chiles followed by the burn from the rye and then smoothed by the honey. Delicious combination!

Love this distillery. They are always friendly when you come in, are wicked knowledgeable about anything whiskey and they make awesome regular and limited releases. Sign up for their Newsletter, as it tells you about upcoming events like new releases and bottling workshops....oh yeah, the bottling workshop was a hoot. You work with a small group to hand bottle a batch of whiskey, can buy a bottle that you processed, and after it's all done you get to kick back at the bar and go through a tasting!

I was gifted a bottle of Catoctin Creek’s rye whiskey a couple years ago. I have loved the bottle myself, and it has been a favorite of those I share a glass.
I had the opportunity to visit the distillery a couple weeks ago, and had a fun, but interesting experience. When my friend and I showed up, we were sat, and also notified that the tour we signed up for may not be a tour they were offering. We were a bit confused since we signed up on the website before arriving, but we’re pretty good with the flow people and was okay with whatever was offered in terms of a tour.
Their distillery is small, and this translates to the tour experience. It’s short and straight to the point of the facts of their distilling process. The tour itself was slightly awkward, but there were factors outside of the distillery’s control that contributed to this. We were also reminded during the tour and after the tour, that the tour itself was free. We were provided with the fact that the distillery was woman-owned, which made me even happier to continue to support such a quality local product.
After the brief tour, you are sat back at the bar or sitting area for your flight tasting. There was some slight confusion on the flight considering the flight was pre-purchased online prior to the tour. The flight tasting experience we received was interesting. Our tour guide was very friendly and spoke with my friend and I almost exclusively after the tour. We were thanked for our attitudes during the tour as she’s had other unpleasant experiences with people. Our chat was fun but overall slightly uncomfortable at times. It almost felt like she was trying to bartend, when I’m not sure that is what was needed.
The whiskey flight itself was phenomenal. My buddy and I specifically wanted to try their Hot Honey Rye. The honey was very evident in the sip, and complimented the spirit in a way I wasn’t expecting. Their gin was also delicious, and I’m not much a gin drinker myself.
Overall I am grateful for the experience to visit Catoctin Creek and to continue supporting their product.

Absolutely amazing experience at the whiskey bottling workshop!! Scott, the owner, does a wonderful job of giving a history lesson of whiskey in the US, a distillery tour, and the bottling experience. Finishing up with a tasting of their unique and delicious spirits was definitely the icing on the cake. Definitely recommend the experience as anything from a day date, to a guys (or girls) outing. Plan to stay after and enjoy more of what they have. We went home with a case because whiskey you bottled on your own make for a great gift for other whiskey fans!!!

Not pictured: liquor. Because it was so good it didn't last.
Stopped here a while back with the family after finishing up the W&OD rail trail. And glad we did. The staff was so friendly and not only knowledgeable about the whiskey on offer but also shared with us the amazing history of the building they are in. They went so far as to let us sample off menu items so we could better decide what to take home.
There's a reason they're a distillery known not just across Virginia but, beyond.

Literally the BEST National Park System owned site I've ever been to! I unfortunately wasn't able to hike on any of the trails, but the small houses and businesses along the road were extremely interesting! I remember visiting a small church nearing the top of the hill that was beautiful. There was a candy shop I went into and the woman working the desk told me all about the history of candies like Turkish delight. The restaurants were also very good. The Rabbit Hole is a great choice to go to. I'll definitely go back some day when I can hike up the trails.

Harpers Ferry is always a great stop with plenty to do. We have made short and long trips depending on what we want to see, and there is always something new to learn about.
When we come in the winter or early in the day we park in town by the train station for easy access. Today the lord were all full so we parked at the visitor center and took the bus in, and our was really very convenient.
There are so many walking and hiking trails in the area, and with the C&O canal and the Appalachian Trail passing by you can really go anywhere from here. There are plenty of trails easy for all ages, and more challenging trails like Maryland Heights to give you a good hike with great views. For an easy walk I love to walk across the bridge to the C&O, especially if I can catch a train passing through!
There are very fun shops in town as well, where you can learn about history, like the history of candy, and take souvenirs home with you.

What a beautiful, incredible space. It really feels like stepping back in time. We went on a rainy Saturday in March and there wasn't too much trouble getting parking but I can imagine the parking fills up in the warmer weather. Definitely recommend parking in the NPS lot and taking the shuttle. The shuttle is very convenient and comes like every 10 minutes.
The town itself offers all kinds of engagement from history to architecture to natural beauty. One can easily spend all day here exploring the town, trails and museum exhibits. There are a few stores; we really enjoyed the historic candy shop where you can buy candy that was popular in different historic eras. Don't forget to stop by the park store. There is a very good selection of books, Park swag, and more. Don't forget to get your passport stamps! Can't wait to return in the warmer months.

We loved the park so beautiful and lots of trials to go on and the town of Harpers ferry was small bonus with cute shops, history and small pubs to catch a quick bite at. It's crowded on the weekends so be prepared to park at the park and shuttle bus down. But don't worry there's lots of busses coming all the time. This is a great day trip or couple day trip to explore the area and other small towns around. West Virginia is a beautiful state especially if you love the outdoors, nature and laid back living.

Lots of history here. You can go to the National Park visitor center and then ride the bus into town. This is a good option as parking is scarce and metered. Entry to the park is $20 per family and is good for 3 days, or you can use your National Park pass. We rode our bikes which is another option. Once in town, there's lots to see. The lower town has many historic buildings, and many have been turned into small museums. There is a railroad trestle you can walk across and see a tunnel entrance. When you're in Harper's Ferry, where the Shenandoah and Patomac rivers meet is also where WV, VA, and MD all come together. There are many places to grab lunch, drinks, and ice cream. Some of the buildings are undergoing renovations. We spend about 4 hours there.

This is a perfect place to visit for the fall season. The drive itself was a treat. I recommend parking at the Harpers Ferry National Park and pay the fee of 20 bucks (I wish I have known this beforehand), and from there they have a bus every 5 mins to take you to the downtown and self tour the area.

I brought my 16 year old son here for his first time, as he'd just read about the story of John Brown in his history class, & he was enamored. It was a wonderful experience. So much to see, & Harpers Ferry is the most charming little town! I'd been here 9 years ago, & I was so happy to bring him to see everything that I so much enjoyed, as well as discover how the exhibits had changed. Great experience, & perfect for a weekend family road trip!

Had a blast here. Hiking up Maryland Heights was an absolute treat, and the views of Harpers Ferry from the top were breathtaking. The hike itself was really enjoyable, perfect for a day out in nature. It was pretty packed and I couldn’t find parking at the train station, so I had to park further away. Fortunately, the park offers a free shuttle between the parking area and the town.

I did not realize you had to pay to visit Harpers Ferry. I didn’t know it was part of the National Park Service. Which was my bad for not doing my research. Thankfully I went on a day that wasn’t very busy. The shuttles to and from the drop offs were timely. I was alone when I visited and would definitely come back with my husband and/or friends. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes there is lots to see.

Very well organized. Drive to the public parking and take the bus back.
Walk through town. It's very interesting history is worthwhile. R. E. Lee arrested John Brown near the current fire station. From the point you see three states, West Virginia, Virginia across the Shenandoah to the right and Maryland across the Potomac to the left. Walk across the bridge and see the city from Maryland Point, a 1 hour hike round trip since part of the trail is closed.
Unfussy rooms & suites, some with racetrack views, plus free breakfast & casino shuttle service.
Very nice comfortable hotel in the grounds of the Hollywood Casino & the race track. Large parking area, AAA Rate, lower then their best rate. If one plays at the casino and you have points in "My Cash" section of your Players Account you may apply to the room rate. Standard Rooms might remind you of a Hampton inn or Double Tree. Comfy.

I would give it five stars except for the smoking. Even in the high-end restaurant you smell smoke while you are trying to eat. Most of our sense of taste comes through aroma. No point in paying big bucks for a fancy hunk of meat, craft beer or wine if you can’t taste it anyway. Everything else about the place was great, especially Sara Evans!

The rooms are a bit dated for a casino hotel and only has a continental breakfast. It only has one elevator which is a pain during busy hours. No pool. Would be nice if tv's were on a swivel so you could watch while in a chair in the corner of room. Nice to have shuttle to the casino but if you plan on staying past 2am you need to take your own vehicle.

Am hoping they put a hot-tub or pool in the hotel soon. With all the money the casino is raking in, with very little payouts you would think they would have built a waterpark by now. Rooms seem clean, and love the seasonal bar indoors. Having the bus service to take you back and forth to the casino is enjoyable. Located very close to many eateries that are in walking distance. Morning breakfast is very nice. Great view of the race track from some upper floor rooms facing it with a balcony. Handicap accessibility is top notch. lastly a great carport that makes loading and unloading alot nicer when you don't have to worry about getting soaked in the rain.

Customer service is important, possibly the most important part of any business outside of product delivery And representation, And I’m leaving this review to mention that Heather at The Inn at Charles Town Is wonderful at her job. Heather is clearly invested in making sure customers expectations are met and any issues resolved. I did not have a pleasant experience at this hotel, but how a business recovers and retains a customer is so very important. Heather was quick to hear my concerns and happy to meet with a wonderful resolution, which is why I’m leaving a positive review. All of these stars belong solely to Heather. All businesses should have managers pleasant to deal with and understanding as she is.

This could have had more stars if they had at least one restaurant within the hotel that you can eat at but the hotel and casino are separate. You need to take a trolly over and all the places to eat are in the casino. It was freezing and about to snow I was not going on the trolly just to eat. Also, my friend had her daughter so she couldn't even go over there.

First off, I love that they have smoking rooms. That’s extremely rare these days. But service is pretty much non-existent. We stayed 2 nights and generally hotels don’t clean your room when you stay more than one night, but they do usually bring you more towels and take out your trash. There was no maid service at all. One of our pillows had what appeared to be a blood stain on it. But there was no hair or anything so I think they were clean. I didn’t see a schedule for the shuttle so we didn’t even use it. Usually they have pamphlets or something in rooms to explain services and rules and stuff. They just have the fire escape plan on your door and the checkout time. The bed was very comfy and the room was ok. We stayed on Sunday and Monday nights so the rate was less. I definitely don’t think these rooms are worth $300/ night even if there is celebrity entertainment on weekends. Overall, it wasn’t bad. I don’t think they put much into making the rooms very fancy because most people are at the casino the majority of time. The breakfast wasn’t that appealing to me. For one, the hard boiled eggs were warm. They should make them the night before and refrigerate. Who eats warm boiled eggs? Not me. I just had juice and a mini muffin. That muffin was ultra moist and tasty though. Oh and the in-room coffee pots are not environmentally friendly at all. Usually coffee pots have a tray you put the filtered pod into, but this one doesn’t have a tray. Each pod per cup has its own plastic tray. That’s a lot of plastic waste.

Bluemont Vineyard is a vast estate that offers guided tours and wine tastings. Guests can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the terrace restaurant while savoring their favorite drink. The view for the the ceremony is breathtaking, the stable is the perfect place for an elegant ceremony with a rustic feel, and the wine just paired with every part of the night. Our wedding at Bluemont was absolutely wonderful. We picked the perfect venue, yet even with the location being perfect, nothing compared to the service and professionalism.
From our first meetings with Amy, our event coordinator, you felt truly cared for. And the superb service only continued, as our day of coordinator handled every detail which allowed us to enjoy. Warning: this vineyard gets VERY busy on the weekends. Be sure to make a reservation in advance online or else you may be waiting hours for a seat. Other than that, there is plenty of outdoor seating and multiple bars where you can order drinks and food. I suggest starting with one of the tasting flights to get a sense of which wines you like best. It is a great place to spend a Saturday or Sunday with friends. The seasonal drinks and desserts, including the mulled wine and the pumpkin pie are worth a try. However, I would advise against the hummus as it lacks flavor and the texture is slightly gritty.

I have been meaning to write a review for some time. I came here a few months back with my husband on a date night. We ordered a flight of red and white wine. The wine was lovely, and the view alone was worth the visit. We were pretty upset with the crab dip we ordered. The dip we were served had barely any meat in it. It looked like it had lumps of crab meat in the photos, but it ended up being lumps of cream cheese that weren't blended and had browned under the broiler. Staff were very understanding with our disappointment and were kind to comp the $28 dish. I am from Baltimore, so I have certain expectations & I just think that for that price, you should get more crab meat.
Overall, it's worth going for the view and the wine.

Bluemont Vineyard offers a fantastic experience with its stunning views and delicious offerings. The flatbread was tasty, and “The Pig” Virginia Norton wine was a standout. The staff were friendly, making the visit enjoyable. The scenery alone is worth the trip, and the combination of great food and superb wine makes Bluemont Vineyard a must-visit destination. Can’t wait to return!

Very nice winery! The view is spectacular! They have great food too. Friendly staff. I gave them a four star because you need to have reservations and they cater to their members so if you are traveling through and think you are going to pop in, good luck! We could have eaten outside but it was too cold and windy.

The Bounty Brunch event in June enjoyed by my sister-cousins and I was wonderful. The food was delicious. The ambiance was so nice. We were in the Stable event space. The views at Bluemont are spectacular. Its such a nice place to go and hang out on a sunny day.

You could not ask for more stunning views! We did a tasting at the 21+ tasting room and it was such a pleasant experience. I enjoyed all of the wines in the tasting and then after we got a bottle of the Chardonnay to split while enjoying a delectable meat and cheese board. So peaceful and the staff were all so friendly and knowledgeable.

Stopped at Bluemont for lunch on our way to Lurray Caverns and so glad we did! The vineyard is beautiful, everyone there was really nice, and the food was great!
We ordered 2 flatbreads, the baked Brie, and a wine flight. Everything was really tasty and at great prices. We enjoyed this outside while enjoying the mountain and vineyard views.
There was an adorable and friendly cat sleeping inside the store. Would come back!

Large outdoor seating area for parties of all sizes, gorgeous views, and great wine and snack selections. Lines for wine/food can get long when busy, but fine if you’re not in a hurry. Look forward to visiting again!

Had great time. Hostess allowed me to bring my guitar in and play at our table.
We were given flowers by a group having a wedding reception. Awesome day filled with romance.

Bluemont Vineyard is undeniably breathtaking, boasting a vast and stunning vineyard with awe-inspiring views. The atmosphere strikes a balance between sophistication and family-friendliness, offering two distinct sections for different preferences.
In the main tasting room, the vibe is lively and upbeat, welcoming dogs and families. Artists perform here. On the other hand, the reserve tasting room, perched on the hill and reserved for those 21 and over, offers a more intimate and mature setting. Both sections offer the unique experience of grape stomping.
The establishment itself is impeccably clean, and there's ample free parking, though some spots may require a hillside walk. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, enhancing the overall experience.
Partaking in the grape stomping activity, priced at $35, proves to be a fun and memorable experience, allowing you to leave your footprints on a customized cloth.
However, when it comes to food, there's room for improvement. Dishes arrived quite cold and took nearly an hour, and some organizational hiccups with the waitstaff were observed. Despite this, the highlight remains the impressive array of beverages, including the delightful rosé, wine flights, and wine slushies.
Overall, Bluemont Vineyard stands out as an excellent choice for celebratory events, romantic dates, and family outings, offering a diverse range of experiences and breathtaking views.

For my mom’s birthday, they visited my new home in Leesburg and I had to give her a taste of the wine country and warm hospitality Virginia is known for. Spending our afternoon in Bluemont was exactly the peace and enjoyment we were looking for to celebrate her turning of age.
Ana and Thomas were ready with our reservation and were so kind to show us the menu and other ways we could enjoy the area on a second visit. I look forward to being able to come back and be a regular on this beautiful vineyard on a hill.

Good wines and great views, several sitting spaces at the place make you feel comfortable. The way they do theirs orders is super efficient and staff for the most part super helpful. Plenty of parking and charming drive up to the building thru cherry trees and vines. It was a great time during my visit.

We recently visited this restaurant and were blown away by the serene drive to get there, surrounded by stunning scenery. We recommend making a reservation in advance, as it can get quite busy on weekends. But once you're there, you'll find plenty of spots to sit outdoors, all with unobstructed views. The wines here are decent, but what really stole the show were the Sangria's - both the red and white are must-tries. As for food, we opted for cheese platters and flatbreads, which were both delicious and satisfying.
Overall, this restaurant is perfect for spending quality time with loved ones while enjoying great service and an unbeatable view. Whether you're looking for a romantic date spot or a peaceful brunch with friends, this place has something for everyone. Highly recommend!

Philip Carter Winery is a lovely family-owned and operated historic winery that offers four and six wine flights for tasting. The wine server provides an excellent experience, even offering a sample of their port-style wine. Visitors appreciate the easy-to-carry plastic flights and the option to pour samples into glasses. The winery's dedication to making the best of each year's crop is commendable, and visitors express a desire to see unique hybrid grape strains in the future.
Beautiful winery! Wines and ciders are delicious! Very friendly, capable and accommodating staff. They have live music and fun events like virtical wine tasting, and barrel tastings. We have introduced many friends to Phillip Carter and are always so proud to bring them as we know their wines and cider are the best and they will have a wonderful time!

We took the wine & picnic tour. We had the best time. Jan was phenomenal. She was knowledgeable, intelligent, and very fun. They have a nice gift shop, all very affordable. Very clean and inviting. The entire staff was helpful and heart-warming. There are so many wine options, but the staff will gladly help you choose based on your liking. We were able to purchase glasses of wine before the tour. The tour does take you outside, so I advise appropriate attire. The tour is interesting and insightful. We ended inside for our tasting. We were able to taste many wines (Which individually were described upon our sheets.) We laughed and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Would recommend to anyone and hope to return. *We were also given complimentary glasses to take home. They also bagged our picnic leftovers. Just great service. Thank you!

This place is great! Wonderful atmosphere, great wine and even had some ciders and sangria! There was live music in the tasting room (which was beautiful by the way). I think the best part was our interaction with the staff. Jan was so hospitable and great to talk to, really made our night! Highly recommended if in the area!

Lovely family owned and operated historic winery. I probably dived in deeper into the operations than most patrons, but highly recommend. I love to see ‘mom & pop’ places succeed.
I’m not saying every years crop is perfect, but like every vineyard, they do the best with what they’re given.
I’d love to see unique hybrid grape strains! If PC Winery is interested, I know a person. 😉

Beautiful place but tours are not as advertised. The “private wine education tour” we paid for was $110 for 2 people and said it was a private tour, but we were on a group tour that according to the website was $60 for 2 people. So we paid $50 more than we needed to. The picnic was nice but did not include the Virginia chutney and chocolates, and we did not receive the complimentary cork screw and tasting glasses. We also paid an additional $50 for two glasses of wine, since a glass is included in the tour. Overall a beautiful spot and nice place but would not recommend paying for the private tour.

Nice location not far off I-66 with vineyards and mountains as backdrops. They were having an event when we went so you could taste wine, beer and cider and they had a good BBQ food vendor. We enjoyed sitting on the porch enjoying the afternoon breeze. The peach float was very interesting but that may be just a seasonal/event offering. Worth a visit.

We were gifted a picnic and tour at this winery and cannot speak more highly of it. The views are incredible, the picnic was delicious, and the staff were so knowledgeable. We bought a bottle and can’t wait til we come back to try more wines! Wonderful winery.

We selected a four wine and six wine flight for our tasting so we could sample most of their options. The wine server did an excellent job and even gave us a sample of their port-style which was a wine we discussed, but ran out of slots. I like their flights being in easy to carry plastic, but we also got a glass to pour each sample into so that the taste was not impacted. Very good wines, worth a visit!

What the what? When I first started going to wineries in VA many moons ago, this was one of the places. Recently while being there, the place feels really run down. The men's bathroom was destroyed. Seriously, it felt like the bathroom from Dan's Cafe in Adams Morgan, not a winery.
Another disappointing part was how they're serving now. Your tasting comes in the little round plastic cups with tops that are used for salad dressing cups at Whole Foods. I get the one use during this era, but most of the wineries are using glass - and simply washing.
That all said, the wines were decent. Perhaps this was an off Saturday.

Free! What a value. Great grounds to wander around. You can take it all in within 2-3 hours. I recommend coupling this visit with a visit to Sky Meadows State Park for a full day of wonderful scenery any time of year.

The State Arboretum of Virginia has an evil past like many historic sites in Virginia, where America's first enslaved Africans entered. The land was once a plantation that enslaved people before it was willed to the University of Virginia to train students in farming. In the 1980s, it was opened to the public as an arboretum. As you enter the area, you walk through what were likely the slave quarters. Here's what we can do as we visits sites like this with an evil past:
-Acknowledge and grieve the evil inflicted on humans by humans
-Ask the site to prominently display the history and its impact today so it's not ignored or belittled
-Donate to organizations like The Conscious Kid as "admission"
Doing all of the above, here's my experience visiting the State Arboretum of Virginia in December 2021:
1) Space: The arboretum is large with a network of trails that weave through forests (including a bamboo forest), gardens, marshland and historic buildings. There are a few lookout areas with binocular stations to see birds and wildlife.
2) Amenities: There's free parking in a lot and admission is free. There are public restrooms open every day and benches throughout the space. Leashed dogs are welcome. They host a number of events, including seed exchanged. They have a Little Free Library by the parking lot.
If you go in the morning, drive 16 miles north to Jordan Springs Market, an award-winning, woman-owned BBQ spot inside a gas station market.

*This* stop was truly worth the time. A terrific effort has been made to provide an ecological gem thriving as it does here. I was impressed by the sheer expanse of the property, the careful attention given to the pathways, and the variety of flora. Give yourself plenty of time to casually experience the area and to listen to the sounds of nature.

Beautiful park with many amenities. It's lovely to see the different types of trees from Lebanon trees to the ginkgo. You can try to come in fall to see the ginkgo leaves change color. Staff are knowledgeable and there are restrooms in the quarter section.

I can't say enough good things about this place! The collection of Evergreen trees and their pamphlet for a self guided tour were FANTASTIC, a highlight of my vacation. I also enjoyed the herb garden and driving the loop with marked trees and there are other educational sites along it.
Horseback riding is allowed and they have an area set up for corralling them, their trucks trailers all have their own designated area.

A gorgeous place with different stunning views of the nature, you’ll see mountains, farms, animals eating grass, and other tranquil moments along the way driving here.
Dog friendly & family friendly
Plenty of free parking spaces with clear instructions and care for those with limited mobilities.
Came here for the the first time to see the Ginkgo trees. Although almost 80% of the ginkgo leaves had fallen off when we were there, it’s still beautiful and worth exploring around.
Its website updates information frequently and you can check as a reference before you go.

Cool place to visit for fall leaf viewing. The Ginko Grove is amazing with sun shining through the canopy. The scenery is fantastic around the grounds, great for photography. The Ginko Grove is about a 10 minute walk, there is nearby parking only for those with limited mobility. Recommend stopping off at Nall's Farm store not far from here for pies, apple cider doughnuts, and great produce or snacks to bring for a picnic.

Beautiful place out in the country. I almost gave it only 4 stars because it wasn't bigger! It is wide open and beautiful, but if you have young children, watch out for the cacti covering some of the large rock outcroppings.

I have visited here probably 4 times in the past 2 decades, and I feel like I always found an area that I missed during my previous visits. The parking was a bit full when I arrived because there was a wedding party there. I parked next to the herb garden in the grassy parking area. The garden is very spacious, and I like the pollination garden the best, and the arboretum has so many different types of trees, and plants. I was surprised to see so much flowers considering Spring is when most flowers bloom. The meadows was pretty to walk around and the grass was cut short for ease of walking. This park is also dogfriendly. I saw so many puppies there! It was great to see dog lovers taking their dogs places instead of keeping them at home. There is an audio trail and a drive too.

Dogs allowed! A wonderful piece of property being maintained by UVA. Really gives a good snapshot of many biomes in the local area. Come here to receive a "sense of place". An exceptional pavillion overlooks the wetlands and I would recommend it being a far point to reach on your visit. The weathered limestone formations found throughout are something to see. Contemplate their lines.

Rocking S Ranch is the best horseback riding I've ever been to! I've been to multiple horseback riding trails throughout the Virginia region and Bill at the Rocking S Ranch make your experience the absolute best!
My wife and I was visiting Hillbrook Inn to celebrate our 1st year Anniversary and I saw "Rocking S Ranch" as a good activity for us. I called to asked a few questions before our trip and Bill was absolutely friendly! I could hear his excitement and friendliness through the phone. Once we got our reservation all set up and finally met him at the ranch, it felt like I was meeting up with a friend by how welcoming and friendly Bill was. My wife, who hadn't ridden a horse before, instantly felt comfortable and was ready to get on a horse because of how welcoming BIll and his nephew Jr was.
We got to ride Leroy and Timber. Two beautiful horses. We followed behind Bill as he told us local stories, funny jokes, and asked us about ourselves. It felt like we were all friends just going out for a nice horse ride. We felt like we lived here and we were neighbors! The scenic route we took was amazing and Bill did a great job at taking amazing photos of us with our phones.
I've made this longer than it needed to be, but we absolutely loved it!

One year ago from today my mom took me and my brother here. Little did I know this would be one of the worst days of my life. When arriving there ON TIME bill asked us if we could wait an hour because he had to go somewhere, which is 100% reasonable so we came back an hour later. He got the horses ready and after getting my mom and brother on their horses i was next. I was riding his horse LEEROY. I wasn’t even on this horse yet when he started acting funny (first red flag). After getting on Leeroy I noticed he wasn’t listening as-well as the other horses but I just ignored it I’ve never really rode a horse before so this was basically new to me. We start the trail and it was a good ride for a little until I realized Leeroy was walking ahead of the other horses and a lot faster. Bill even said he was off and I quote “he’s usually the slow one I don’t know what’s wrong with him. “ we continue on with the rail going through a river and going up mountains and on the road. Bill spoke up and said “I haven’t lost a person yet” jokingly. We were about to finish the ride about 5 minutes away from his house when we were crossing the road when Leeroy takes off charging in front of all the other horses. I was behind my mom and brother and also bill. Bill yelled for me to pull the rope back to calm Leeroy, that didn’t work. All I was thinking was “he’s gonna throw me off” and that’s exactly what happen. I landed straight on my back in the gravel. Leeroy backs away from me and I tried to stand up but could not I fell straight down. Bill yells “what did you do to him” as if I wasn’t on the grown is agonizing pain. My mom jumps off her horse and runs over to me. Bill told her to leave me on the side of the road BY MYSELF so she could put her horse back, she refused and stayed with me while my brother went back to get her car. My mom called 911 and we waited for the ambulance to get there. I can’t remember a lot after because I was in complete shock and I couldn’t move. Bill still made my mom pay for all of us…. Absolutely absurd. To this day I still struggle with my accident. I have muscle spasms (my whole body with shake uncontrollably) almost daily I’m light headed all the time, I cannot bend my back that much I just feel broken somedays. I’ve been to hospital after hospitals trying to get myself straight but all they can tell me is there’s nothing they can do and I’ll probably have these twitches for the rest of my life. I posted this not to hate but for everyone to be aware of what can happen. All the comments of people saying this is safe and fun and an EASY ride. Just please be cautious and if you have an bad feeling listen to your gut it could save your life.

I have to say that this was a very enjoyable weekend getaway for my wife and I. We booked a lodge room, it was.in the older part but was very nicely kept and comfortable, albeit a bit small and lacking a microwave. The staff and the service we received here was definitely top notch, the restaurant was great and the food was very good. The legacy lounge was a nice place to stop for a drink, and had some good drink specials. The outdoor seating area and outdoor fireplace were nice, but the weather didn't cooperate on our second day. The only disappointing part was the game room, literally nothing worked, but the space it occupied was very nice and the entire resort was very clean.

We stayed in one of the cabins - it was excellent! The indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit were fantastic! The beds were comfortable and the cabins were warm. The cabin kitchens were well equipped for a weekend of cooking meals for a group of people. We enjoyed a long hike as well as a few short strolls through the park. The pool was delightfully warm even though the hot tub was closed during our stay.
We were concerned about a worker at the pool who seemed to poke his head into the ladies restroom and locker room before knocking several times while we were there. It seemed like he was trying to peep on women who were changing. (Minus 1 star)

Rooms were nice, view of the mountain also nice. Staff friendly. Do not use the restaurant! I’m sure not everyone will have the same experience as we did but and to make a long story short we ended up walking out on our restaurant bill. Our favorite trail was the Ziler trail, took some stamina! Cooked out near the beach. Hiked up to the fishing lake (which is beautiful) every morning. We had great reception even while hiking (gps came in handy when we got off course!) The restaurant has really great breakfasts, and we liked the pizza too! And, of course enjoyed roasting marshmallows around the campfire in the evening! We will definitely be back!!

The park grounds are great as one would expect for a large state park. The new lodge is nice although overpriced for what it is. We were here for a NICA race so we camped. We rode a bunch of the trails the day before they setup the race course and a few of the trails are great rides. The skills park was very nice. We did drive up to the top of the mountain and highly recommend if you go. The road up however is rough to say the least. If you are in a car with little ground clearance you may want to not make the trip up. We camped in the parking lot for the swimming lake that is open for swimming through the summer. The few downsides I will mention is that the swimming bath house that was opened for all of us that camped was pretty filthy with very little working lights. With all the money they have spent at the lodge they should have spent some of it improving the bath houses around the park. Don't let that discourage you though since I don't think they allow overnight camping here normally anyway. We will be back next year for the next race and will still camp here but will be prepared for it better.

My family and I vacationed in Cacapon Resort and State Park and had such a great time. We stayed in a cabin not too far from the lodge. It had four rooms consisting of two rooms with queen sized beds and two rooms with two twin beds, making it a comfortable stay. Our cabin also had a kitchen, bathroom, large living room, a fire pit, grill, and two picnic tables. There were so many great activities happening around the park for ALL ages. We took advantage of nature walks, the Irish road bowling (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!), geocaching, paddle boating, and more. Dale was our guide for most activities and he was fantastic! Very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We came here with two small children and had so much fun! If I had to have one complaint is that the food in the lounge isn't very good. You'll have more fun bringing and cooking your own in your cabin or on a campfire!

Some nice hiking trails near the lodge. View of the lake are pretty. The forest has a lot of moss and rocks making it unique in a West Virginia sort of way. Food at the lodge was OK; but the fact the bar closed at 9pm ruined everything

Nestled in the Shenandoah mountains, Copper Fox Distillery offers a unique experience for whiskey enthusiasts. The distillery's smoky applewood-aged whiskey is a standout feature, and visitors can enjoy tours and tastings of their premium flights. The rustic space pays homage to the building's roots, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the outdoor cocktail garden by the river provides a relaxing setting to savor their exceptional spirits.
Had gone for what seemed like a never ending hike before coming here and all we wanted to do was sit and have a cocktail- it didn’t disappoint. They have tables outside right along a creek/river/stream/babbling brook- I could have sat there all day. It was so peaceful. The cocktails were strong and delicious. We’re in the area for a few more days and we’ll definitely return for another drink.

Even though it was just myself, I had a great time trying the different whiskeys Copper Fox provided. They had a wide variety of flavor profiles. So I’m sure visitors will find something they enjoy. I enjoyed the Chestnut American and bought a bottle while I was there. I also bought an Age Your Own Whiskey kit that I can’t wait to do. The atmosphere was great and will be more enjoyable with friends and family.

I spent a week in the Shenandoah mountains alone, a true getaway. While exploring the valley to see what there was to experience, I came across this place and decided I had to check it out. I have rarely made a better decision. The whisky was phenomenal top to bottom, I tried both the regular flight and premium flight and was disappointed with none of it. The staff was warm and welcoming, service was excellent, and the setting… the setting was unbeatable. The riverside bar was everything I needed. Prices are excellent, quality is absurd, and I can’t recommend this highly enough. I’m now on a quest to get the state of Alabama to try to bring this into distribution so I can buy it at my local liquor store instead of driving 950 miles! Do yourself a favor, try Copper Fox… You gotta do it!

I tried the premium flight to experience their more interesting products. The port style rye may be one of my favorite whiskeys to date. We sat out back next to a trickling stream that made for a fantastically peaceful experience.

This is a must stop place to see and try if you are into distillery/tastings. I got the flight and pirate lemonade. Everyone was nice and the atmosphere was just perfect. If I had to be nit picky, I would add a bug attractor away from the guest area to deter the disturbances of bugs. All in all, will definitely return!

We all had a great time, you should definitely make this a stop if you are in the area. Good drinks, service and the price is totally acceptable.

A delightful, unassuming location. When you pull up, you might think your GPS took you to the wrong location, because you will be surrounded by old warehouses. Rest assured, you're in the right spot! Follow the sign to the distillery, and head in the main doors to be greeted in a rustic space that pays homage to the building's roots. If it's a nice day, head out back for a nice surprise - a cocktail garden alongside the river! The menu is loaded with tasty cocktail options for you to enjoy, as well as a couple spirit flights. I'd personally recommend the premium flight because it contains some of the best local whiskey expressions I've had. While you're in the garden, you may be joined by one of the distillery's cats, which can provide extra entertainment if they're in a hunting mood.

We discovered an absolute hidden gem here! Despite arriving just an hour before closing, the manager (whose name escapes me) delivered exceptional service. He led us on a delightful tour, enlightening us about the whiskey-making process. I can't wait to return with friends and family to share this cozy and inviting atmosphere. Many thanks for a truly wonderful experience!

Nice little surprise along our drive today! This distillery had a nice cocktail list, beautiful view out their back door with a babbling brook, and the atmosphere inside was also very inviting.
The four of us enjoyed a couple hot totties and old fashions. These were the best drinks of our whole vacation. If you have the opportunity make a stop at Copper Fox, you won’t be disappointed.

Went on a tour last Sunday at Williamsburg location and had such a nice time. Gabriel was such a good tour guide and has a great sense of humor. We truly enjoyed learning about the Whisky making process and touring the distillery. Such a great date! Seeing the process and smelling the aromas of freshly distilled spirits was quite nice. Ending up our tour with a stop in the bar and enjoying a flight of the Whisky and one of the best Whisky sours that I have ever had. We truly had a great time!

Visited the distillery in Sperryville. Really cool place to relax and get a whisky flight or cocktail. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and super chill. Loved the inside decor- comfortable and welcoming. They have some games and cards you could use and a nice place outside to sit. It was very cold when we visited so we opted to stay inside. We both liked the whiskey flights. My fav was the Copper Fox original Rye. II would have loved to try a cocktail too but was driving. Give 'em a try if you are in the area!

Wide array of flavors to taste from. Enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly staff. Rye and XO were my favorites.
Did bother the standard and premium spirt tastings.
The Paw Paw Tunnel is a canal tunnel located in Western Maryland that was opened in 1850. The tunnel features a long towpath trail and brass plates that explain its history, making it an excellent location for those interested in the history of the C&O canal. Currently, there is construction going on at the site, but visitors are still able to go through the tunnel with caution as it is boarded up except for one small opening.
Great trail! Very flat so good for biking, not as much for hiking more of a walk. The tunnel is really neat but super dark in the middle. Bit spooky if alone. Dog friendly!

Rainy day, so we decided not to spend too much time here, but the place reeks of history and striving to build with technology that would be considered primitive in today's times. On a previous visit, my son and In and another father son pair walked through the tunnel. Recommend it!
Jeff Parnes — Google review
My son has been working on a Maryland history project where he has to take pictures of himself at multiple historical sites in Maryland. We were in Western Maryland and stopped at the tunnel. There is a significant amount of construction going on there right now. There is a detour near the Towpath but you can go through the tunnel. The tunnel is boarded up except for one small opening for a door. Make sure you bring a flashlight because it is especially dark with the openings being boarded. This is a great site for the history of the C&O canal. Take some time to look at the significance of it before you arrive

We did a short hike here during the weekday. The site is under construction, but we were able to park easily and walk up to the tunnel. Because of the construction we had to turn back at the end of the tunnel. A few notes to expect: Inside the tunnel is 15 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. Once inside the tunnel it gets dark. We were the only ones there as it was a weekday and we had to use our phone flashlight to see. We then hiked around the area and there are some stunning views of the river if you go up and around the tunnel. Overall, fun place to check out.

Easy walk to a super cool place. The end of the tunnel is beautiful! There were also little newts in the water. Absolutely recommend stopping
Kaitlyn Randall — Google review
Fun family activity. My recommendation is to park in the lot designated for the tunnel and not go to the area up the mountain where you can hike down. If you park in the lot by the canal, it is an easy walk to the tunnel. As a family, we choose to walk through without any light assistance so the kids could experience the total darkness. They loved it! On the way back some other groups had flashlights and were shining them directly in our faces, so just to be aware of that if you do take a flashlight and come upon others. It is out of the way, and a neat experience that we are all going to remember for a long time.
EJ B — Google review
Waze takes you past it and up to a farm that is private land you will see a sign off on the main road and it's a little hidden turn. Also the area is under construction so a lot of the trails were blocked off.
Jrow Strother — Google review
Easy parking lot and hike to the tunnel. It does drip at the entrance so wear a hat to avoid getting wet (I dislike the feeling). It's pretty safe for older kids and adults but the railing wouldn't contain a small kid from falling it. Lots of people on bikes as well and there is a detour to get all the way around since one end is currently closed for repairs.
Elisa Ferrante — Google review
We can imagine the history of ancient boat travel on this ancient canal, and more importantly, the builder of this canal. They use their hand to dig the tunnel, to dig the canal river, and which convenient for boat to travel. Be respectful.
hanhua ge — Google review
This is the first time in three years we visited that the tunnel was open for walkers. Great walk with the family, kids love walking through the tunnel with the flashlights. The front opening was closed, I believe because of construction, but we were still allowed to walkthrough.
Bring flashlights, suggest flashlight per person
John E. — Google review
I was under the impression that the tunnel was closed and was pleasantly surprised to discover yesterday that it is now open. We walked the length of the tunnel. The path has been restored, the railing is stable and we were able to enjoy a worry free walk in a pretty dark space.
S S (Ride4Life) — Google review
Parts of the area are under construction but they have kept the tunnel open. It looks much shorter than it actually is when you enter. At one point, we thought we were half way through when in actuality, we were only about quarter of the way. It stays cool inside, so it is great for a hot Summer afternoon.
Derrick Brown — Google review
I walked along the Hill Trail and did not go through the tunnel since it looked like construction was going on. The Hill Trail has some beautiful views! I decided to take first left onto the Hill Trail...fyi...that is one sketchy sinking bridge! And my feet got a little wet. 😂
Kylena Cross — Google review
Definitely worth the visit. Hard to believe that this was built back in the mid 1800s. Over 3,000 feet long through solid rock. Easy walk. Bring a good flashlight you'll need it. Tunnel entrance on one end under construction due to past rock slide. Supposedly will be finished by the fall of 2023

The Luray Caverns, located in Virginia, are one of the most well-known and largest caverns on the East Coast of the United States. These vast underground tunnels have been forming for millions of years and showcase stunning natural wonders such as colossal stone formations, crystal clear pools, glistening draperies, and soaring stone columns. Visitors can tour the caverns and marvel at 140-ft. natural columns, colorful stalactites, and brick walkways.
This cavern is truly one of the.most spectacular natural wonders I have seen in my life. The history of how this cave was found by accident about 150 years ago is amazing. The tour of the cavern was well planned and thought out and responsibly preserved. The tour takes about an hour to walk and a very good camera is highly recommended.
I suggest visiting during the off peak season so that you feel rushed through the cave.
There is a small Cafe, a gift shop and a few other shops.
I highly recommend this park to those who enjoy nature and for those who want to experience a once in a lifetime thrill.
Pictures do not do this cave justice.
It must seen in person to appreciate the beauty and amazement of this place.

I heard from someone working at the front royal visitor's center that Luray caverns was the best in the area. It was a good 45 minute drive but it definitely did not disappoint! It was beautiful!!
We went on a Monday evening and it was empty. They took our photos at the entrance and ended up being really cute souvenirs.
The caverns themselves were really big. We took our time and read through all 19 stops on the tour (they had self guided tours with a brochure) I liked that we were able to go at our own pace and be able to take photos/ videos without other people photo bombing. There were pretty little lakes and huge formations. Great trip!

A must see! Superbly arranged, roomy for those who may suffer from claustrophobia. Nearly all paths are brick layer and the path is very easy going. There is no climbing or such. Tour is self guided and takes about an hour. Plenty of parking. There is a very nice antique car collection, which is included on the $30.00 entry fee. Highly recommended!
Peter Papagiannakis — Google review
It's no doubt a neat trip for visiting a cave but the company is letting it slide. In the past ten years, the price has gone up and the tours are no longer guided. We visited today and it was a near free-for-all in the cave. A lot of people were touching the rock formations and leaving trash in the cavern. At this rate, considering how delicate the caves are, I wouldn't be surprised if it were eventually closed off to the public.

The off season is the best time to visit. Absolutely no lines, many times we were the only ones in an area. The staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. Off season lol. The caves are incredible and stunning. The fun thing is they actually have a pretty cool car selection which we all enjoyed. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Absolutely gorgeous and worth the trip from Baltimore (and the ticket price). We got permission to go backward through the caverns and it was nice because it made it less crowded. I do imagine that they’ll not allow it anymore, though, because I could tell a few of them were slightly annoyed by it. Don’t ask about it and definitely don’t reference this post.
Tyler Stewart — Google review
The most beautiful and largest cave in the East coast you must see! It would take about an hour to walk through the cave but we really enjoyed every moment of it! Although it was crowded, it’s still plenty rooms and opportunities for you to taking pictures! Great place!

Great way to easily experience the caverns! The self-guided tour is great, it allows you to stop and enjoy the quiet and beauty of each area. There are useful details about the formations in a guide pamphlet which is super helpful to understand everything. Added on the maze to the experience, it was so fun and worth the extra price. The whole experience was a lot of fun for all ages.

Visited on a Thursday afternoon and it was decently crowded. My family of 3 was able to walk through the caverns in about an hour and it was spectacular. It is self-guided but you can pay for a guided tour. You are given a pamphlet with information as you walk through the caverns. Although it is definitely a tourist-y spot, I highly recommend checking this incredible place out as it is one of the great wonders of the east coast!

I have visited caves all around the world- Japan, Europe, Korea etc. This was by FAR the most breathtaking experience. The caverns were other-worldly. You MUST visit if you are close by! If you have kids, the caverns are pretty stroller (small stroller) friendly. Also, the crowds here aren’t bad at all, you have plenty of space to enjoy the trail.
Eleanore B. — Google review
We enjoyed this very much. We stayed up at big meadows campground during a very misty week so this was a nice break. The path is all one level, no steps. The only improvement I would like is the ability to get the headphones again or a guided tour. The pamphlet was helpful but we like to interact with tour guides make sure you check for discounts

It was an amazing experience. It was my first time in a cavern, so it was incredible to me. The mirror caves were absolutely beautiful. It was a rainy day, so we got to see the water filtering inside the cave. The guides were very helpful. We got to hear the organ in the cathedral.

Having heard that these were the best caverns to visit in Virginia, I was eager to see them.
On arrival the place was really busy, but we had not trouble parking in the parking lot.
Entry was reasonably priced and after walking through the gift shop we headed to the caverns.
Before you enter you have to have your photo taken so they can try and sell it to you on your way out.
The caves are amazing to look at, and there are plenty of opportunities to take photos. The caverns are well lit but I do feel that missed a trick by not using coloured lighting.
My only gripe would be the crowds. Lots of people just stopping and not letting people past. This caused a back log many times.
About halfway round there are only so many rock formations you can look at before they all start to look alike.
The route took about 1hr. Once out you walk back through the gift shop.
There are other attractions available included in the price, but we were too hot and tired to experience them.
Andy Murfet — Google review
Really cool caverns with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites formations. There was also a very small underground lake that reflected the stalactites like a mirror. The temperature is cool (light jacket should be fine), can be slightly drippy if raining outside. Takes about 1 hr average to stroll leisurely and enjoy the view. The restroom is only available at the main building so make sure you empty your bladder before heading into the cavern. There are also other attractions in the complex such as the toy station, museum, etc. Parking was relatively easy, also free. All in all, certainly worth the ticket price.

Stunning- Nature’s magic at play. Great for families, kids or even a romantic get away. Lots to do other than just the Caverns. Plan ahead if you want to explore more than just the caverns and do other things like the Garden Maze , shopping etc.
Definately bring your camera. The caves have a beautiful ‘Mirror lake’. Magical!!!

Went at the end of our spring break and it was really fun! It’s about 60-90 min to walk all the way through, depending on how long you stop for photos or listen to the organ. Many amazing sights and some parts of the caves are 7 million years old! Very interesting history and would recommend grabbing info pamphlet before you go through so you can follow along what each item is (they’re numbered). Tickets also include free admission to the toy museum and train/car museum next door. Really neat to see more historic items.

This place was really great. I checked previous pictures and had thought I would find something a bit different, for example: the wishing well; I thought it was bigger than what actually is (small) also, thought there was more water in it, but nope. I still enjoyed the place and had a great time. I went on Sunday and it was full of people, making it hard to take some pics but not a big deal either. No steps inside, it took a bit more than 1hr but did not feel it, I didn’t get tired either. I was ready to use a sweater inside but no need in my case. Restrooms are 8/10. Whenever you enter or exit you have to go through the shop they have, I didn’t like it because it was crowded inside the shop. Staff was friendly. Entry was 32USD per person.

Beautiful. Pictures can not do it justice. My girlfriend and I made a detour on our trip home from PA to NC to see this place. We were amazed. I have hundreds of pictures/videos and they all look amazing. Put it on your bucket list. Must see.

We had the best time here. I took my father and my grandson (who is 4) and my dad loved the ramp that was added from the last time he was here many years ago and my grandson practically skipped the entire time being in awe of everything to see.
We lucked out and didn't realize the anniversary of the caverns being discovered was the same weekend we chose to go and they had lit hundreds of candles which only added to the ambiance.
It was also nice and cool given the 90+ it was outside.

Amazing experience, very beautiful cave and rock formations. The tours are self guided. However when your walking through, their will be families stopping and taking pictures, which holds up others that want to go bye. My experience there was an allot of kids running around, which annoyed others. But didn’t annoy me. I had a great time. Would definitely go back.

the caverns were amazing to see, easy to walk, we were there when they first opened mid weekday in winter and it was not crowded. It took about an hour and half total with a leisurely stroll. Kids really enjoyed seeing the different formations. There is a very large parking lot and was mostly empty when we went. By the time we got done the lot was about1/4 full.

Absolutely beautiful!! We really enjoyed the self guided tour. It's definitely worth the trip!! We visited from Michigan over New Years weekend. It wasn't terribly busy. We spent a few hours there between the caves, village, and museums. The ticket price is worth it for sure. You get to see and learn a lot. Our only issue was with people themselves. For some reason, people just can't seem to listen and follow rules, especially in the caves. It was sad to see so many people being disrespectful and touching the formations :(

I was here in 2019 and now in 2024. I'm very excited. This is the best place. It’s safe to walk here and not be afraid that you will slip and fall, like in another cave that we were not far from this one. There is a very large cave here and there is something to see all the time. I regretted that we went to another cave because this cave is the best, the most beautiful, the most. I really liked it, thank you to the people who work there for your work. It's so good here that you don't want to leave. Photos can't convey how beautiful it is there.

Cool place to walk around if you enjoy caves. Did have an experience with one of the workers as we walked up on a private tour and we weren’t aware of it and just stood there being polite letting him finish talking only for him to rudely say anyone not part of the tour move along. I just think there was a better way to say it as we had no clue that’s what it was.

Decided to head out to the caverns with the family. We have been to several caverns all over the world and this one was really good. The tour was good, the path was wheelchair friendly, the formations were amazing. The cavern organ performances were a bit of a let down. The car museum was okay but it was included in the price of the ticket. The biggest shock was the price at $34 a person. This is quite expensive. The cavern tour took us about 2 hours. There was plenty of parking.

This place is truly out of this world. The tickets included the Luray Caverns Self-Guided Tour, the Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Shenandoah Heritage Village, and Toy Town Junction. There's also garden maze, rope adventure park and gem sluice for additional price.
I wish we had more time to explore, so we hope to be back soon.

It was my revisit after 28 years. Back then it was not as nice as now. Cavern was renovated during 2017 ~ 2019 and it looks much nicer and corridor was nicely renovated. My kids loved the cavern and it is must visit place when you have kids. It takes little less than 1 and half hours to complete the tour and loved it. Ticket price is $34 for adult and $17 for kids(6-12), Free for under age 6
The Car and Carriage Caravan Museum features antique and vintage cars, including an 1892 Mercedes-Benz and a 1908 Baker Electric. It is a great thing to do alongside visiting the Luray Caverns!.
We really enjoyed going through this museum (we are our late 20s). I took several pictures to show my grandpa - he really loves older cars! It was terrific that this was included with our tickets to Luray Caverns - and I would consider this a don't miss attraction if you're already visiting them. They had a wide variety of cars over several decades. Go take a look!

Small space filled with cars - likely would be better in larger space allowing to examine cars from multiple directions.
Still, great selection in fantastic condition.

This is a nice little museum. It’s included with cost of admission to the caverns on the same property. It’s probably a little bit too small as a stand alone attraction, but it’s worth the time to pass through and look around at these old rides while you’re there.
One unique thing I liked was the old shop stuff, like the tire vulcanizer, the coil tester, and vintage gas pump. It would be cool if there were more and/or a tour guide(perhaps recorded on a device so you could listen with ear buds).
The old kid stuff was interesting.
They have a souvenir/gift shop here too.

The Luray Valley Car and Carriage Museum is an absolute gem 💎, I would call it a car lovers paradise. While the museum is only small, it does make up with some very special exhibits that I have not seen before. The cars are in great condition and well looked after. The car museum was an unexpected delight. Even for those not particularly inclined towards cars, the collection was impressive. From vintage classics to modern marvels, the museum showcased a diverse array of automobiles. This place focuses on single malt distilling that is aged 3 different ways. They have a cider Barrell, sherry, cuvee (red wine), bourbon, and port barrel finish. All were in the 90 proof range. So if you're looking for the 'flavored' spirits then this is the wrong place to go. If you're interested in a traditional Scottish single malt then you definitely need to stop by.

We were out exploring and decided we'd try this place even though we're more bourbon kind of folks. We're glad we stopped. The venue is beautiful with lovely views and grounds. The young man that guided us through all the different selections was very knowledgeable and personable. We had great conversation with him (I wish I could remember his name). We were told that they have events throughout the year including a caskgiving where casks of liquor or the casks themselves (not sure which) are given away on a first come first serve basis. The experience was so enjoyable that we'll definitely be back.

Not sure what to do in Lexington, Virginia? Start with a tour of the Virginia Military Institute. Let the GPS take you on to the campus and work your way through the campus to the parade grounds. This is the large open field in the center of the campus. Parking is on the far side along the campus's commanding officer's housing. To find the museum locate the campus's chapel. It is free and don't hesitate to enter the chapel. It is gorgeous. The museum is an elevator ride down to the second floor. Great little museum with lots of historic military items. Check out General Stonewall Jackson's horse Little Sorrel. Highly recommend you take the walking tour. This free tour is lead by a senior cadet and you will have a great opportunity to ask all kinds of questions while getting a in depth look at the campus. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the campus. It was a buzz with cadets going about their daily routine. Come early for the cadets marching to breakfast, or come late and watch the entire school march to dinner. We missed it put would have loved to seen the parade to chow.

I just visited, and it felt like a ghost town since nobody was around, but in some ways I did not mind that. It is a very historical institution, which is great, and has produced many honourable cadets and servicemen. I am not pleased with the school’s (and their perhaps worst graduate ever in our former governor), penchant of the erasure of former professor, Gen. Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson. I could only find one or two references to him on campus, which is a shame, since even though he was not a popular professor, he as a man was insanely popular. He was very honourable, treated everyone regardless of race with nothing but respect, and his legacy should have nothing or little to do with the post-Reconstruction problems the school might’ve had within its culture. Nevertheless, it is just a sign of the times.

Great school and a truly remarkable place steeped in history. VMI is a very unique experience that only a very few people in the world have the privilege of understanding. Hated being a cadet there but glad to be a graduate from there.

This once great state military academy has gone woke dropped its enrollment by 25% due to poor leadership that embraces a trash culture of men and country haters. Not worth you time or money, find a better institution.

I was there in the evening to return my son back to Post after an off Post Doctor appointment. It was beautiful. Everything was so well lit up, Cadets marching together, pristinely dressed, others carrying out on Post Duty Assignments and marching in an orderly fashion off to "SRC". It was a beautiful thing to see!

Hating your child more? My son attended and the experience he had there was outstanding. It was tough physically, challenging academically, and austere living, but his time spent there, while difficult, was rewarding and transformative. As they say VMI is not ordinary, the educational and life experience obtained there is extraordinary.

This was a wonderful old historic house. Well worth seeing. We enjoyed listening to the tour via an app on our cell phone as guides explained each room. There's also a small historical area in the gift shop where you purchase tickets to read and it was very informative.

Pretty cool place. Lots of history in this town and we didn't have time to see it all. But this was a very cool, rich in history house. $10 for Adult, $7 for kids, younger are free. Not handicap friendly, stairs are involved. I wish they would have had a guide to inform on information.

I stopped in Lexington by chance during my travels, saw a sign for the Stonewall Jackson house and decided to give it look. It turned out to be a very interesting stop. The people working there were knowledgeable and friendly. There was a museum room and shop you can visit for free but to tour the house is $10.
The historical part of the town is nice and worth the detour off the interstate. If you are passing this way check open dates as they may close for winter.

Interesting place with a lot of history. Tour was self guided on phone. My personal preference is an in person tour guide but it was still a fun experience.

I've been wanting to visit here for many years and finally did. My husband and I got so much information from the nice lady behind the desk. She was very knowledgeable about jackson and his family. Being able to see the things he owned was a big WOW to me and very emotional. I highly recommend this gorgeous house for a visit to people that love him as I do.

Visiting town and got a map of downtown Lexington at the Visitor Center. The Museum is next door. It was a self-guided tour with someone available to answer questions. Glenn was awesome and very knowledgeable of the history!

If you are a history buff this is a must stop. They have 2 options guided $15 per person or self guided using a QR code and a printed flyer. The Docent seemed nervous but was able to answer most questions.
I found it odd a Nancy from another family seemed outrageous irritated that as Christian as SWJ was he owned slaves.

Price of admission is not bad. They do offer a aaa discount. Not a whole lot to see as you only get to see the first floor and basement. You don't get to go upstairs. Not sure if anything is up there besides rooms. They do have a nice gift shop as well. His grave is not far from his home. This is an easy self guided tour that wouldn't take but 30 to 45 mins max.

The Stonewall Jackson house was easily one of my top destinations in Lexington (Thomas Jackson Memorial Cemetery, VMI, Washington-Lee College being the others. )
It was an incredible step back into time to step onto the grounds, and inside, the home that has been fully restored to that of the time in which Jackson lived within. A place in which he was proud of, his only true owned home.
Though much of the furniture is replicated and the home has a history well beyond the time of Jackson (for nearly a half a century it was a hospital), the homes most humble beginnings and now famously known history is that of being the generals house during his years spent in Lexington.
The tour guides are very knowledgeable, and offer a fact based informative lecture on the homes history and Jackson's time spent within the walls.
There are a few select furnishings in the home that were actual belongings.
There is gardens behind the house, and a fairly affordable gift shop within, selling Jackson memorabilia. The price of the tour is more then reasonable.
I very much loved this home and tour and think that absolutely anyone, but most definite, a history buff should absolutely visit. It's incredible to stand in the same space that was once filled with such a historical significant man, to our countries past.

Reasonable price for an interesting tour! It's a great chance to learn more about the everyday life of Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson during the years immediately before the Civil War. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and personable. The home, despite different uses in the more recent past -- even a hospital -- has been returned to a sembleance of the home of Jackson's time period. Even if the furnishings weren't original to Jackson, they were of the time period. There's a small gift store with many different offerings, including seeds, books, toys, music boxes, etc. The Stonewall Memorial Cemetery is a few blocks away. The only negative we had was finding the actual house using the GPS. If you're interested in the culture/lifestyle of that time period, it's worth checking out.

Super cool place. So much history! The home is restored amazingly and the docents are super knowledgeable and gave a great tour. Not too long so it’s a nice afternoon stop-in.
The University Chapel, formerly known as Lee Chapel, is a 19th-century auditorium that holds events and features a museum with exhibits related to Robert E. Lee and the Civil War. The chapel underwent a name change due to political correctness. The museum has been relocated temporarily for renovations, but Lee's college office remains preserved exactly as it was when he passed away. Additionally, the crypt underneath the chapel serves as the burial site for the entire Lee family, including Robert E.
A peirce of history, where you can visit the 1868 auditorium (where you can see and take pictures behindthe original lectern that prisedent Lee was using 1968) , Valentine's statue The Recumbent Lee, the Lee family crypt, the amazing president Lee Office in display ,and the setting stage gallery which includes portraits and artifacts, that used to be displayed on the auditorium stage. ( all museums and galleries at W&L university are free admission)

It used to be called Lee Chapel until they changed the name to University Chapel because of political correctness.... for those who enjoy history and the Civil War.. this is the place to go? They don't bother to mention that the entire Lee family is buried in a crypt underneath the chapel.... they moved the Museum and Gift Shop because of Renovations but Lee's College office is still exactly the way he left it the day that he died.... and right outside the door of the crypt is the grave of Robert E Lee's famous horse Traveller, throw a few sugar cubes and a Apple for the good old boy... visit and enjoy.

Very beautiful but it is hard to find on the maps as a history person. It used to be called Lee Chapel. Also traveller is buried outside but is hard to find. I’ve taken a picture from afar so if you’re looking for it you know where to go.

No signs for the Lee Chapel and no plaque on the wall of the chapel indicating that's the General Lee grave, nothing about south history. (Lee founded this university right?) After Monument Avenue in Richmond, VA, they want to make you forget this part of history? It was still closed in mid september.

Lee Chapel & Museum is a National Historic Landmark on Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. It was constructed during 1867–68 at the request of Robert E. Lee, who was president of the school (then known as Washington College), and after whom the university is, in part, named.
The Victorian brick architectural design was probably the work of his son, George Washington Custis Lee, with details contributed by Col. Thomas Williamson, an architect and professor of engineering at the neighboring Virginia Military Institute.
Upon completion and during Robert E. Lee's lifetime it was known as the College Chapel. Lee was buried beneath the chapel in 1870.
In 1883 the University made an addition to the building to house the memorial sculpture of “Recumbent Lee” by Edward Valentine and a family crypt in the lower level, where the president's remains were placed. His wife, mother, father his children and other relatives are now buried in the crypt as well. The remains of his beloved horse, Traveller, are located outside the museum entrance.
The chapel was officially renamed from Lee Chapel on June 4, 2022 by the university's "woke" board of trustees and given its current name.
But if you still enjoy American history I encourage you to stop in for a visit. If American history offends though, you I'd stay away.
Ron Lamberth — Google review
Very historical chapel formerly known as the Lee Memorial Chapel, it is where he and his family are interred, and was partly constructed by Lee as a place to gather (instead of explicitly a church/chapel). There is a statue/monument to him constructed after he passed. There are some docents to help you out, but it otherwise is self-guided. Definitely worth a stop for Southerns, Americans, and history-fans all the same. Cheers.

Awe inspiring! So impressive. The recumbent statue of Robert E. Lee is sheer perfection. Excellent artwork in
Museum. Seeing Lee's office pretty much as he left it was like stepping back in history.

Small chapel and small museum. Nice memorabilia and artifacts in the museum, though. Unfortunately, the guides are way too eager to share their knowledge and want to talk and follow you around. You have no opportunity to sit, silent, take in, imagine, remember, appreciate. The chapel guide seemed offended that we visited the museum first, as she wanted to tell us about that as well. Parking lot is a bit of a walk, feels even further in this horrible summer heat. Worth a visit, just understand there's no chance for reflection.

This is a beautiful place with such great craftsmanship. Lots of history. Not handicap friendly steps involved. Definitely need to see from the front doors looking onto a beautiful campus to looking into the chapel.

Outstanding location. Having a volunteer give background on the chapel is well worth it. The museum does an excellent job of of interpreting the school and Robert E. Lee. Highly recommend a stop here. A good place to learn about the links between George Washington and the Lee family.

Lee Chapel & Museum is easily my favorite location in all of Lexington.
It's an incredible well kept Chapel inside and out.
It is completely free of charge.
Once entering you are immediately met with the open chapel room and from afar will see The General's memorial - a sculpture of him laying in state - on each side you will see original paintings of General George Washington to the left and Lee himself to the right.
You're allowed to go into the room where Lee's sculpture is at state and eventually will veer to the left down to the actual crypts. The actual crypts host Lee among many of his kin, including Revolutionary War Hero, his father Light Horse Harry Lee, Wife, and Children.
His office is also in the lower room still intact and preserved just the way he left it the day that he died.
Outside you'll find his trusty mount Traveler buried near by.
An incredibly impressive place that anyone who finds themselves in Lexington must absolutely see.
The Greenbrier is a historic and expansive resort located in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The property features traditional accommodations, a variety of restaurants, a luxurious spa, and five golf courses. Designed by renowned interior designer Dorothy Draper and currently maintained by Carleton Varney, the resort boasts vibrant colors and bold patterns throughout its decor.
I had the pleasure of spending a weekend at the Greenbrier recently and I absolutely understand why I have heard about the resort my entire life.
The resort itself is beautiful and the pictures do not do it justice, but the staff is what really makes this place shine. From check-in to check-out, every staff member I encountered was courteous, attentive, helpful, and accommodating. I would swear they are magical - whenever we returned to our room it was already tidied up to perfection with a fresh bucket of ice waiting for us. They truly go above and beyond to ensure every guest has the best experience, and this is also true of the staff in the steakhouse and in the main dining room (Oh, the food! Each bite of every single meal was succulent, rich, and perfect).
My grandfather loved going to the resort every year on his way to the Preakness, and it is easy to see why. Do not miss any opportunity to stay at the Greenbrier resort - I can assure you that I will not, and I will be actively seeking opportunities to stay there again in the future.

The Greenbrier has been a constant presence throughout my life. I've attended numerous events here. The local High School, where I graduated, holds its prom here. Most people in the area have worked for the place at one point or another in their lives. The secret underground shelter for the US Congress has been the worst kept secret among locals for as long as I can recall. My mother and father told us stories about when it was constructed. Its revelation in 1997 was no surprise to any of us. I have never desired to stay at the place, I have patronized its bars, restaurants, movie theater, and bowling alley at different times in my life. I happened to shoot a few games of pool with three young women and their younger brother on one such trip before their mother, Kris, rounded them up. They seemed rather surprised that I had no idea who their father was. They told me that he was a famous lawyer who represented 0J Simpson. I must say that the encounter was so memorable that it took me quite a few years to realize just who they were. At the moment, I'm not sure if that adds value to the establishment.

I cannot believe that with taxes, a “historical preservation fee”, and a resort fee, we paid over $600 per night to stay at this shabby, dirty resort. The carpet and furniture in our room was covered in stains, to the point we requested slippers to avoid walking on it. Housekeeping only remembered to bring one pair. The coffee cup lids in our room were covered in dust, and had clearly not been attended to for several guests-worth of stays. Cleanliness was a general concern. The fabric hanging over the indoor pool was covered in yellow and black stains. In the locker rooms, the curtains were yellowing and the towels were piled above my head- it had clearly not been cleaned throughout the day. There was no way to wipe down gym equipment before or after use. Please do not expect 5 star service, even with 5 star prices. As I said, housekeeping forgot half our request. There were plenty of bell hops and valet out at arrival, but we completely unpacked our car on our own had to approach someone to drop our key off with. I left feeling completely mystified as to how they were spending the 9% historical preservation fee they apply to every single purchase. The restaurant food was excellent, but more expensive than most Michelin star restaurants I have been to. The buffet breakfast in the main dining room was the best offering. The shopping options are excellent, and my husband very much enjoyed the off-roading experience. If you are used to staying in other hotels and resorts at this price point, I think the Greenbrier will feel like a major disappointment and waste of money.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. I expected better food and better rooms for the price. The Forum was our best meal. Our entire group loved their food. I was not impressed with West or the Main Dining Room, considering the price. We definitely have had better experiences on cruises. The grounds are beautiful. The bunker tour was neat.

While the Greenbriar is overall beautiful and staff was very, very friendly, I have to give a 1 star review because of what I feel is the most important part of the stay: the accommodations.
We stayed in one of their smaller rooms, so maybe they just aren't given the same attention. When we arrived, we immediately found 2 half-melted, half-eaten ice creams in the mini fridge cooler from the prior occupants. The bath tub wouldn't drain after showers and the shower head leaked so we had to call maintenance day 1. The ceiling above the shower was moldy and the carpets in the main area were stained. The chair for the vanity was also stained in several areas. The in-room amenities were slim, but perhaps it's due to the type of room we had. The toilet was low and was of industrial style.
The room was beautifully decorated, staff were wonderful, and we did enjoy ourselves. It was disappointing to see that many of their children's activities were only available at certain times, but I realize this hotel isn't geared toward them.
When calling guest services for assistance and recommendations. They weren't very friendly or helpful, but the rest of the staff was wonderful.
My hope is that this was just a fluke stay and we'll maybe try staying again, so hopefully I'll be able to update my review then.

Out of this world old school service and staff. Great food. Definitely an American institution worth experiencing but becoming a little rough and worn around the edges. Slightly disappointed with the maintenance of the building itself. Lots of areas are showing their age and not quite up to the level of luxury and refinement the resort tries to portray.

I have had the pleasure of visiting several times, but this year was not the luxury experience we are used to, The service and food were par at best. Drinks were poorly mixed and not consistent throughout the property. Good Luck finding food if you have any dietary restrictions. I absolutely love the decor but it is time to refresh. Keep the Draper decor, but an old couch is just old! Furniture that was ripping and chairs that needed to be replaced. Before our next visit, I hope some attention is given to the details of the venue and not just the details of the prices.

Rooms OK. TV service, not good. Yen seconds for each channel change. Granted you don't co.e here to watch TV, but come on...overall in this facility, I feel service could be better. Our first time here, when we checked in, the girls offered zero information. Keep in mind this place is massive. In Drapers, when you finish eating they never remove the dirty plates from your table. As upscale as this place is, they should know better

I have been coming here for a week since I was six months old and this year was a lot different. First, there was an ice and peach shortage. Also, the portion size was ridiculous. We had over 10 people and many of us ordered $70 steaks from the main dining room. They looked like the slices of steak I can buy at ShopRite for $10. The mash potatoes took two spoonfuls and there were three pieces of asparagus. However, the food was very delicious but the portions were very annoying. We left paying over $1,000 and still hungry. During the week we were there, there was business event which changed the vacation. The outdoor pool closed at 3:30 and the bowling alley was closed for them and they weren’t even playing! However, the vacation was still fun. Golfing everyday was a blast and most restaurants were amazing. My favorite was definitely Prime 44 West. The breakfast buffet was also really good I also love the history. I am a big fan of this subject and learning about people like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Sam Snead, and more. This year, we stayed with my family in the Greenbrier Suite and my bed was so comfortable. Overall, the vacation was different but I still had a blast.

Stepping into the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV, feels like stepping back in time to an era of opulence rarely experienced today. This iconic resort, boasting nearly 800 rooms, exudes grandeur from every corner.
Although I only had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast in the magnificent grand dining room, I was instantly captivated by the sheer opulence of the hotel's decor. The lavishness of the furnishings and the delightful era colors transport you to a bygone era of elegance and luxury.
Breakfast was nothing short of perfection, with a delectable spread that met every expectation. However, what truly stood out was the impeccable service provided by our table attendant, Dawn. Her kindness, wit, and delightful conversation added an extra layer of warmth to an already unforgettable experience.
After breakfast, we couldn't resist capturing a few photos against the backdrop of the stunning decor – a true testament to the rich history and timeless beauty of the Greenbrier. Originally founded in 1778, this historic hotel holds nearly 250 years of stories within its walls.
Under the ownership of Governor Jim Justice, the Greenbrier has been revitalized into a world-class destination, seamlessly blending modern amenities with the timeless charm of its early history. It's evident that every effort has been made to preserve the heritage of this esteemed establishment while ensuring a luxurious experience for every guest.
Whether you're staying overnight or simply stopping by for a meal, a visit to the Greenbrier Resort is an unforgettable journey through history and hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an indulgent escape in the heart of West Virginia.

What a wonderful getaway! This place was so much fun! There is no shortage of things to do, places to explore, and history to learn. The onsight restaurants were wonderful and the staff was extremely helpful and kind. The bunker tour was so interesting, the falconry class was super cool, and the escapes rooms were exciting! The only thing I was not impressed with was the quality of the movie theater. Other than that, our stay was perfect. I am definitely planning on coming back some time.

It's lovely & nostalgic for me. While still opulent and beautiful, it is not what it used to be. Overall, it was fine - the food was very good, as were the drinks. It was small things like peeling wallpaper, dingy paint, and scuff marks. They were doing repairs without privacy screens - that never would have happened before. The service was not bad, but certainly not what one would expect at the Greenbrier. I could tell which staff had been trained in the old way. The mystery is gone - the service personnel were loud & definitely not demure as in the past. One of the bartenders seemed almost put out that we asked for a mint julep. We had a minor issue at the spa, and the staff there was diligent and made acceptable accommodations for the situation.

Excellent stay. The staff was so professional yet welcoming and kind. They made sure that our stay was up to par and go above and beyond our expectations. I felt like royalty! Great value for what you get. We also did the bunker tour which had such rich history. Admissions was $40 for 19 years old and above. Beautiful resort with an incredible view of the mountains, especially at sunset. We stayed at the Top Notch Estate House and it was a great location on the property. We enjoyed playing croquet and tennis outside and also bowling at the indoor arcade. The lobby bar with huge chandelier had amazing food with excellent service. We had lunch there right before the Bunker Tour which is an absolute must and was so interesting. There is an outdoor pool plus an indoor pool in the hotel. It was fun just to walk around and take in the beauty of nature.

We traveled here with high hopes. It's a famed resort with a deep history. It's labeled as America's hotel.
It was disappointing to say the least. We stayed at the cottages because we brought our dogs. While the setup is great. Away from the main hotel, big rooms, a lot of green space to walk the dogs. It was an old, tattered room. We paid $350 for a dog fee, to walk into a room with old stained carpet everywhere, and a musty smell. I totally get the historical feel. But it doesn't need to be dirty. There was a fair amount of mechanical noise from the AC units near the room we could hear at night.
Now for the rest of the hotel. Parking can be self and you don't have to pay for it. That's a big plus in a resort for us. You'll pay a historical tax on literally everything you buy on property. It's like 15% or so. It adds up quickly on you. You'll also get the 20% service charge, which bartenders seem to try to hide that from you by not giving you the itemized receipt unless you ask. I got hit a few times in the start not realizing I was already paying the tip. I felt taken advantage of after I realized that.
The spa was ok. Dining was good, just expensive. Bunker tour is a let down. Trails were fun. Walking on the golf course trail was beautiful and memorable.
This was an experience for us, and that was worth it, but we would not come back.

Step back in time to the nostalgia of Dorothy Drapers designs and pre WWII Era and experience the whimsy of the rich and famous as you walk the stunning grounds tour the inside of this luxury resort. From the horse and carriage rides, the chapel and the croquet court outside to the Gone with the Wind chandelier, portraits of royalty and the infamous Cuban missile crisis bunker on the inside the charm and aristocracy is unmatched. While the hefty price tag can be off-putting, it is worth every penny to experience the amazing customer service and indulge in this piece of history that is so unique and charming. We will definitely be visiting again!

We loved every moment of the trip from afternoon tea, the history tours, the meals, our room, the evening movie, the shopping, and especially interacting with the other guests and the employees. We met so many wonderful people who go out of their way to make your stay wonderful. It was my husband's first visit and he absolutely loved it. He's already already thinking about our next trip. The highlight for me was the breakfast buffet in the dining room. It's the best breakfast you will find anywhere. Yes, the Greenbrier is pricy. Is it worth it? Absolutely!

Large show cave offering tours past massive stalagmites & stalactites, plus a museum & gift shop.
Really liked the self guided tour. A lot of cave tours feel rushed as you have to keep with with the guide while still admiring the cave features. This tour you could go at your own pace, read the informative signs, and take as many pictures as you want.
The path was paved, with a lot of stairs. All the stairs had at least one side with wooden railings to hold onto if needed.

We had a great time exploring the cavern on the self guided tour. The staff was very polite and informative. The gift shop was neat, organized and stocked with a lot of unique trinkets. Everything was very reasonably priced. The cavern took us about an hour to walk through. (We took our time and read all of the information plaques along the route.) When the boys are older, we will definitely return to explore the rest of the cavern on the adventure tour.

I didn't want to add too many photos because YOU HAVE TO GO!!! It's one of the best caves I've been to in a while (I'm not like, a cave connoisseur, but I liked this one enough to give it a review!). The tunnel down was really unique, and the formations were astounding! We only did the 45 minute tour, but the 4 hour guided tour sounded so cool! The natural history museum was a fun little addition. Everything from the tickets to the gift shop items were super reasonably priced, but I would have gladly paid more to keep that place up and running. I'm not in West Virginia often, but I can't wait to go back and see more of Lost World Caverns!

Very nice clean shop with a sorted offerings and the caverns were amazing. I would do it again in 26 days when I pick up my son,.. a lighted space relatively easy to walk through. Very informative. Very fun! Definitely will do it again. I've been to square boons and Indiana and Mammoth caves in Kentucky. This place was a gem.....

Coolest experience ever. Me and my girlfriend decided to go with the guided cave tour. We were the only people who showed up that day and essentially got a private cave tour. Our guide was fun, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to be around. Well worth the price!

My friend and I took the short self guided cave tour and loved every minute of it. Everything is well lit, path easy to follow. A great trip for the whole family. Would love to come back for the longer tour sometime, need to be in Better shape for that. The store has a little museum too. Bring a light jacket otherwise if you like 50 degrees this is the place for you!

Lost Worlds Caverns is a very nice place to visit. They have a gift shop with reasonable prices and lots of items.
They have a display of various fossils and descriptions on what creature they were and an insight on their lives.
The main attraction being the cavern is really interesting to check out. It is fairly large and has signs letting you know about that area they are located in. It really makes you feel like you are truly exploring something new. They also have guided tours, I can't speak about how good they are, but next time I'm in the area I'm planning on trying that tour.

Cool spot for a quick walk underground. Nice plaques explaining/naming formations with some interesting facts. Takes about 45 minutes. They have a guided tour that goes deeper into the cave system (4 hours) but I have not tried it.

It was cool and I'm talking in both ways. Went there on a steamy hot July day. Felt so good. Beautiful caverns. Friendly staff. Cute store dogs. Lots of souvenir shopping. Fairly easy walk when for seniors. Lots of handrails. Beautiful and educational. And cool!

A must see if you’re in the area, pictures don’t do it justice. Just seeing how far you are down in the one area is amazing! Lots of fun facts along the way, but it is a self guided tour (which I appreciate)! It is cold, and slick in areas.

Stopped by as it was on our way home, and since it was 88 degrees outside, we knew it would be a nice cool spot to stretch our legs. It is reasonably priced to tour on your own at your own pace- love that aspect. It was not crowded and we took our time in seeing all the different formations. Liked the informative signs throughout and it was about a one hour walk. Very well lit up and not too tight to fit through the rock areas. Great to see if you have an hour or longer if you want to checkout the gift store. Nice employees too.

This place is off the beaten path....dirt roads lead you to a really beautiful place. The walk down into the cavern is nice but coming back up is a good dose of cardio. The rock formations are well lit for photos and walking. The gift shop was nice with many unique items. Well worth the trip...just follow the navigation. You won't be disappointed

Be prepared to do a lot of stairs! A cool experience getting to wander down in the caverns. Nice walking layout for a self guided tour. Plenty of informative signs along the way explaining the various types of formations and history of the caverns.

Awesome! We were visiting from Michigan around New Years. We loved this self guided tour. We got there first thing when they opened. We were able to take our time and admire all of the beauty of the caves. It's definitely worth the stop, in our opinion.

It was fun to go inside the cave and see all the stalagtites, stalagmites, columns, and curtains. My family and I got to take amazing pictures. The issue I had with it was the fact that it is a self guided tour which was not expected until after you pay. Even with the signs, it is difficult to know what direction you are supposed to go in. I suggest reading all signage cause that is the only way you will know if you are going in the right direction and the only way you will have any information about the cave. There is one side of the cave that smells really nasty, but again, read the sign you will then know why. But, it would be nice if there was a tour guide to tell you the reason for things before having to read a sign.
Melissa Lyons — Google review
The cavern is simply other world like! $13 per person for a self guided tour was definitely worth it! Our first cavern experience like this. 10/10

An extraordinarily large and amazing cavern. Worth visiting and exploring.
I only paid $12. You can have a tour guide or walk on your own. Nice gift shop also

These caverns and facilities are amazing. The drive to the facility itself is beautiful. Once you arrive, parking is free and you are easily able to start your tour. The tour is self guided, but there are many plaques offering details and information as well as pointing out key formations.
Once you complete your tour, there is a very nice gift shop with a small museum portion attached. The museum features things local to the site and caverns, such as fossils and bones.
All and all, very fairly priced and very fun. Should you go, be prepared with comfortable, good shoes, and clothing appropriate for the cool underground.
The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine is a popular destination for those interested in exploring the history of coal mining. The site offers an underground tour of an old mine, as well as a museum and gift shop. Visitors can learn about the daily life and work of coal miners, gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation for their experiences. The surrounding buildings are also fascinating to explore, showcasing the rich history of this area.
Brought a Boy Scout Troop from the Charlotte, NC area to visit the coal mine while working on their "Mining in Society" Merit Badge. We enjoyed learning so much about the history of coal mining and the knowledge and enthusiasm shared by all volunteers and employees at the facility.
Our tour guide in the mine was Don and we just can't say enough good things about how he gets everyone into the tour and understanding the life of a coal miner. His knowledge and life experiences as a 23 veteran of mining really made this experience stand out.
We had a personal tour of the cabins and building on site as well as some time with the blacksmith. These were great as well.
We will definitely recommend this trip and hope to return soon.

Informative and historical experience. Came as a family, spent about 2 hours on the grounds learning about historical coal mining. Ticket prices include a tour, the opportunity to explore the museum, and the opportunity to explore the grounds which included many of the historical houses. Exhibition Hall has nice bathrooms, a gift shop, and a fudge area. The coal cart tour, only took about 35 to 40 minutes, and our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. He had many great stories, and came from a line of coal miners. He was even one himself! We took our school age children with us, and they enjoyed it as well.

This was an amazing place for us to camp! They have an underground mine shaft tour and buildings for you to tour of how miners lived at that vacation time. They had people in the rooms to explain how they lived. I would highly recommend you visit if in the area or plan a trip there. We will stay there again on our way back from the rest of our vacation to spend more time to hick the trails.

This is a great tour! Our tour guide, Gerard, was knowledgeable and funny. The added value of the other museums included in the price is amazing. My kids had a blast at the children's museum.
Give yourself a few hours to see everything. We didn't give ourselves enough time, and I regret it.

This was such a great experience for the kids and us adults! Gerald really gave us a great appreciation for what it is/was like to be a coal miner. His tour was very detailed and full of laughs. The surrounding buildings are also really cool to see and explore. A must stop!

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was impressed with our tour and guide Mike. His 43 year experience in the mines was very informative. He demonstrated many facts about a miner’s life in the mine.
I have a new appreciation of the strength and willpower the men had to work under such horrible conditions and for so little pay. They were definitely a generation with a strong backbone. I’m thankful that mining conditions have improved over the years.
The museum was very informative and several buildings were on display, the school, church, miner’s house and the overly generous superintendent’s house. He lived lavishly compared to the true workers of the mine.
Definitely worth your time to visit.

Awesome place to visit with a great story behind it and some great information about coal mining in the late 1800's. About as close as you can get to a real mine and our tour guide at least, was a seasoned miner working in the same vein of coal albeit 30+ miles away in a different mine!
A cool attraction to see and definitely worth stopping by and checking it out!

I was traveling through West Virginia and wanted to learn something about their coal industry. There was a Mine Tour that I did not take, but walking the grounds and visiting the museum was very informative! There is even a Children's Museum as I saw several families with children and all seemed to be enjoying themselves!

This tour was absolutely phenomenal!! I grew up near coal mining but knew very little about it. The ride into the mine with our knowledgeable guide and retired miner, Gerald, really opened up the world of coal mining to all of us. I confess, I wasn't expecting much when my husband said he wanted to go, but I was truly blown away by the experience. Everyone should visit this at least once.

Great experience I'd highly recommend. You get a glimpse of the hard life the miners had years ago. Great exhibits and area. Our tour guide Gerald was very knowledgeable and a great asset to the the coal mine. Be sure to bring a jacket or light shirt. It's cool underground year round and sometimes water drips on you from the roof.

Nice, modern facility with coal mining museum upstairs, gift shop down and outdoors a replica of an old coal mine town of WV one can walk and visit typical housing found. Signs were posted describing the use of the buildings. A mine tour hosted by a long-time miner travels underground at the site of a former coal mine. The tour is about a half hour with several stops and a great explanation of how miners did their jobs.

This place is fantastic. The tour is worth the trip. The tour guides in the mine were FANTASTIC. They were friendly, gave first hand experience, and did demonstrations. I would recommend it to anyone to make them appreciate the history of mining and the sacrifices of the miners.

This is a great thing to see in the area. Take a tour on a train of the coal mine. Don the tour guide was fantastic. You'll learn all about how coal miners used to live and work. It is absolutely eye opening to see and hear about the conditions people had to endure to live in the coal camps and work there. You can also see the historical buildings that were preserved. Highly recommend seeing this place. Tour is about 45 mins in the mine.

We had a great time. You ride into the mine and guide explains in a knowledgeable way the workings and abuses of early miners. There's also a company house , church, museum and other coal mining exhibits. We bought a nice coal mining hoodie for only $24. I definitely recommend this tour.

This is a must-see place in West Virginia! We went to the coal mine on a early Saturday morning... before it was open. While there waiting for the 'Company Store' to open, we walked around & took in the sites. There are historic markers relaying the history of the coal industry in West Virginia, a train stream engine that was used to transport coal from the mines, and statues dedicated to the miners. You are greeted by the representation of an early coal town that was built from several buildings that came from early coal towns. They were dismantled, brought to Beckley and rebuilt. They did an amazing job furnishing them with antiques from the time, too! While we waited for our coal mine tour we wandered through the 'Company Store'. It is a museum that teaches you so much about mining & life at the miners camps. It also has a gift shop area. Then, at 10:30am, we went on a tour of the coal mine. The mine was a real coal mine, and our guide was a real coal miner named Don Barrett. He was funny, informative and I highly recommend his tour. There's lots to see, do & learn. I put some photos so you can see some of the sites. You've gotta check it out!!! 10 out of 5 stars to the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine!!!

What a great educational experience. When combined with a fun guide like Don, (all the guides are retired miners)this is a good use of time and makes me appreciate what coal miners had to endure to keep this country going. I highly recommend!

We had a great tour with Gerald! We loved hearing his perspective as a retired Coal Miner and the things he demonstrated and pointed out on the tour. What a fantastic experience. The Coal Camp houses are also a fun way to travel back in time and envision life in the 1900s, especially thanks to Bea and Dana (as well as the other attendants whose names I can’t remember!) who made our visit memorable, and fun!! If you want to learn more about the history of coal in WV, or are just looking for a rainy day activity for all ages, let this be at the top of your list!

Pristine! Well put together, informative, interesting. The entry fee is more than fair. The staff friendly and welcoming. This is not a replica coal village, they took actual building apart and rebuilt them on site. The cart ride thru the mine and our guide Dorcet were phenomenal. On site, there is a coal museum, a colonial village and a children's museum all for one low cost entry fee!! I've traveled alot and this is truly your best bang for a buck.

We were driving to the Midwest from Virginia to visit friends, and we decided to stop at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. We had a full day of driving, so a break of a couple hours was welcome.
The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine advertised as a trip into a former working Coal mine, and that's exactly what it was. Now, there are two kinds of Coal mines. A shaft Mine uses a vertical shaft going deep underground. A drift mine uses a horizontal shaft that tunnels into a mountain. Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine is a drift Mine.
You board a trolley, maybe 20 people in all. The mine you tour was a working Coal mine, until it was made into an Exhibition Mine.
Our guide was a gentleman that had been a working Coal miner for over 40 years. He really knew what it was like working in the mines. We had a great time.
After the mine tour, we toured the Coal mining town. The had numerous houses, a school, and other buildings that had been an actual Coal mining town until they were moved to Beckley. It was fascinating, and very realistic. You really saw how miners and their families lived. They also had a children's building with many interesting activities kids would love. We spent 3 hours at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and it was time well spent.
Tamarack Marketplace is a vast cultural center located in Beckley, West Virginia. The unique crown-shaped building houses fine art galleries, shops selling West Virginia handicrafts and regional culinary creations, a theater, conference center, artisan workspaces, and hands-on classes. Visitors can explore glass, carvings, and artwork for sale while enjoying quick-serve dining options at the food court-style eating area.
A most unique stop directly off I-77. If you have a few minutes to spare it’s a nice place to explore. Many unusual handcrafted items. They have some display areas to watch items being made and even offer classes.
There is a cafeteria type food area with ample seating. There are also areas available for weddings and meetings.

Interesting site, Easy to find. Unique pieces.
The building is right off one of the major road and is easy to get to from the road. In fact it can be seen from several road. There are signs that lead to parking and there seems to be plenty of parking. This is like an art store, a glass factory and a business had a baby. It is an interesting store in many ways. Outside the round building has large triangular pieces that jut out from the building roof. It is surrounded by the Tamarack open air gallery. Inside the building is a circular design around an open atrium. The walkway is very pretty inside with beautiful art of all types. There is woodworking, painting, ceramics and food. It is all displayed in a vaulted room that has a lot of natural light around the central displays. The floor design is very pretty tile and carpet interspaced. We did not end up buying anything since the prices seemed high. This is a good place to see if you have never been to West VA as it has some art of local artists and a glass blowing furnace that was operating when we visited.

We decided to visit the marketplace out of curiosity and looking for things to do. The fall foliage added to the picturesque marketplace building. It was welcoming, clean, well organized on both sides of the continuous main aisle with artisans wares on both sides with no walls in between. Many different displays of items available from, Pottery, Carvings, Woodworking, Inlays, Glass Blowers (actually making the glass figurines onsite), Quilts, Art, Stone clocks, Pictures and many other things. Of course there was a really good food court not typical, one where you would get in line, order, pay then sit and then food runners that got your food for you. The quality of the products appears to be really high. However, prices were in the range of do you really, really want it, then you'd probably buy whatever it was that you were looking at. And Yes we did do it....lol We enjoyed ourselves with the eye candy of looking at very nice products. So if you're in the area and looking something to do you might like it too. Enjoy.

We went here one morning. It’s easy off/ on from the highway and has plenty of parking. As the name suggests it’s a marketplace and not a art museum etc. This is a place with a good variety of artists hand crafted items for sale. Some of the items are hand made tables, lamps, jewelry, candles etc. There’s also a local shop that makes hand blown glasses, bowls etc. Besides selling the items you can make your own. It’s done with their help and guidance but it’s a lot of fun and doesn’t take long. I made a glass and it came out great. Besides the shopping area there’s a restaurant with really good food.

This was a really neat place to visit with my mother. There was so many awesome craft and art pieces to look at. They had a glass blowing studio with lots to purchase. Quilts, gemstones, jewelry, leather goods, silver handmade earrings and jewelry. All kinds of really neat handmade stuff. The restaurant wasn't the best. I got a chicken sandwich and it was very bland. My mom got a BBQ sandwich and she liked hers. Overall this is a really neat place to visit.

Wow! What an amazing place to stop! There is literally something for everyone, including pets! I've been here before and it was nice, but you can really tell they are capitalizing on the travel plaza renovations, which I think is great! The food is delicious and there are so many options from grab and go sandwiches to sit down dinners! The hand dipped ice cream was a huge hit with my children! I also love how they have a huge room of books where they feature WV authors, especially Emily Calandrelli, my favorite! We will definitely be back here!

Very fun and unique shopping experience. When you go to check out take your items to customer service I felt really stupid walking around looking for cashiers. Stopped here because for truckers, there was nowhere else to go. Snow storm came in, and the travel mart is under construction.. This center is of arts and crafts. Definitely nothing for a toddler to be in. One restaurant and store next to them with snacks and ice cream. I would say it had some interesting things inside. However, was looking forward to the travel mart.

We have done business with a few businesses within the square. It's a real shame there is no public restrooms. We went and watched a late movie to kill time before fireworks. When we got out and went to use the elevator it would not run. So here we are with our daughter in a wheelchair with no way down. 😡 We waited for someone from maintenance for about 30 minutes. No one ever showed. Luckily we found the service elevator. It was horribly stinky and on the other side from the accessible parking spots where we were parked. So we had to push our daughter up the garage ramp. So we missed the fireworks. Such a disappointment. Definitely will reconsider before going back.

Amusement park with a carousel, haunted house & other kid-centric activities in an outdoor space.
Camden Park was the first ever amusment park I ever went to, and now I an an adult and went again at the end of summer; I forgot how amazing it feels to smell the funnel cakes, and fly down the big dipper so fast your whole body leaves the seats.
Honestly, its not a fancy theme park. It's a dinky old family fun place. If your old fashioned fun, you will love it. Plus, there rarely are any lines except at 1 or 2 food stands. Most of the time you can walk up to a ride and be on and ready to ride quicker than it takes to walk through the ropes for possible lines.
•Nifty Little Fact: The Big Dipper is one of the last all wooden roller coasters that is still up and running, and honestly, that alone is super cool, I think.

Overall the park is affordable, has short lines, and could use some updates. The rides are a little sketchy but operated well. Park is as clean as any other amusement park, and the restrooms are acceptable. Food served in the park is decent and not too expensive. Lines are short and move quickly.

Our family loves coming here each summer. It’s super affordable. We pack our cooler and go eat lunch at the truck. They stamp your hand and you can leave and come back as often as you want. Water is free in the park. But food cost really isn’t that bad on our trips we want to splurge we never spend more than 50 for 4 to eat what they want. We only do Snow cones and water on these days because of the heat and how active we are when there. They have some amazing snow cones. Didn’t grab a picture last time forgot! Lol

Worth every penny. Had an awesome time. The water log roller-coaster was my favorite thing there. (Tip ride in back if you don't want to get wet) with that being said my wife definitely rode up front 😂.
Kirby Est 1996 — Google review
The rides were great. NEED A UPDATE!!! Some of the rides you can hear cracking, they definitely need to upgrade on the rides and park. $8 for parking. 18.99 for everyone if you get it online. I got to skip the long line for the ticket booth, so that was great.
Sat is $24.99. Sun is $22.99 if you do decide to wait in line. Water inside the park was $4 & pop was $4.25 (I think)
It's more of a theme park for kids than it's for teens and adults.
It said no smoking, but I saw a lot of people smoking vapes & cigarettes.
No outside drinks or food. Gotta rent a booth, and it's $10 or $15, I believe.
Had a great time.

You can spend 2-3 hours at this park and get everything done you want….we usually go in the evenings for starlight pricing (discounted), but if we go during the daytime, we print a coupon ahead of time off the website. $5 off per person - one coupon good for 4 people. Camden Park is per my family “a national treasure”. It’s a small park without all the pomp and circumstance but it is charming for that reason too. The Haunted House is classic and has had a wonderful revamp - it looks so good now! I’m so thankful and happy they were able to put the time and money into giving it the facelift it needed! They are repairing The Big Dipper now too - so we didn’t get to ride it, but we are excited to see the improvements being made on it too. These two rides alone are truly national treasures as they are some of the most historical rides in the country. Be sure to get a pronto pup (corn dog) while you’re there and don’t count out their milkshakes (some of the best we have ever had)!!
Small crowds and short wait times
We closed the park down last night so we were able to get some great photos of the Haunted House!

We always have a wonderful family day every time we go. There could be more games for the kids to play. The rides could be better maintained every time we go the big dipper is closed for repairs. They could add a few more rides.

Rides, for all ages. We always have a great time at Camden park. Been going since a young child. Wish they would rebuild a new roller coaster! It's time!
This is a fantastic stop off for any fan of Loretta Lynn and her family. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the family, not just Loretta. He made the tour very interesting and informative. On the way to the house you get to see the coal mine where Loretta's father worked as well as the school house she attended. The tour starts at the Grocery store that was owned and operated by Jack Webb, Loretta's brother. It is off the path a little but well worth the visit. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Amazing experience! We went on a personal tour with Loretta Lynn's niece, the late Herman Webb's daughter, and she was so knowledgeable and friendly! The whole Van Leer and Paintsville area is filled with so much country music history and coal mining history. My wife, 2 daughters, myself and my wife's grandmother had an amazing time!

Not only is it Loretta's childhood home. But the tour was given by her niece. The family history and all the information was amazing! We visited the store as well. The museum was not open 😔

This was a really neat place, and done by her niece. I was more interested in the home and furnishings etc than the many photos of her career. It was $5 a piece and her niece walked us through the place giving us some stories, mostly about other family members and people who visited. It was fun and worth the stop to me, but not to my boyfriend, Gary.

Mack was awesome at providing an awesome back story on Loretta and the family. It's definitely worth the visit. Normally, they do tours at 12 and 3. Stop at the Webb grocery store first

For some reason Mack didn't feel like giving us a tour. Maybe he was tired. Not meant to be. You can visit obscurity, but you might not get a tour. They "close for the season". We were there Thxgvg weekend. Also know that there is a replica in Hurricane Mills, TN...I'm sure you won't get turned away there. Still grateful for the stop.

We got lucky when we arrived and there were people there showing the house. The man who showed us was very friendly and informative, after we toured the home we went down the road to the store, they had souvenirs and stuff there. The house was in original condition and had lots of cool things inside, the only thing I didn't like was all the writing on the ceilings and walls.

Small but, well worth the visit! Connie, Loretta's cousin, was an awesome guide! We loved learning about the history of the homeplace. As well as some stories about Loretta (Webb) Lynn and her siblings when they were young. A lot of memorabilia from not just Loretta but from her entire family. Make sure to check out Webb's Grocery on the way in for souvenirs and maybe a cold drink on a hot day!

Well worth the drive up some very narrow roads to get this insight into Loretta’s childhood. We had a tour from Hermalee and Hermalee’s son (I can’t remember his name but he was adorable and knowledgeable). It was sad to see people defaced the walls by signing them, not needed at all and it ruins the authenticity of the home.

We had made the trip on several occasions to Butcher Holler but Loretta's Lynn's childhood home was closed for tours. Catching their off days. This occasion we got lucky. Mack was very informative and provided a wealth of information concerning this home in the holler. Well worth the drive. Highly recommend for anyone that's not only a fan of Loretta's but has an appreciation for history and the kind folks of Appalachia.

It was a great place to visit. But we weren't able to go inside. They don't do regular tours, you have to stop at Webb's grocery on the way, and if the guy is in the store and can get away a few minutes, he will take you up there and let you in. But he wasn't able to take us when we went, so we just had to drive there and look at the outside.
Red River Gorge Geological Area is a stunning natural wonderland filled with vast cliffs and sandstone arches, all carved by the Red River. A must-visit for nature enthusiasts, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy such as hiking and scenic drives along the 33-mile route. The visitor center offers essential amenities and information on the area but be sure to check their hours beforehand. The whole region is truly awesome and a perfect escape from busy city life.
We drove the 33 miles of the Scenic route. And we stopped to do some short hikes. What a beautiful place to get away from the city and be one with Nature. Unfortunately we didn’t have to to get in some more of points of interest in. But what we got to Experience was absolutely Breath taking.

Beautiful area to hike and backpack! Have been a few times and it’s always a treat. Has gotten a lot more crowded over the years though so I recommend you start early because the parking lots at the more popular trailheads can be a nightmare to navigate. Would recommend the Sheltowee Trace as a backpacking trail! Definitely be prepared for steep terrain and beautiful views!

Went to Red River Gorge for a day trip. There is soany activities to do here. Many place with fantastic views!! We decided to do the Nada Tunnel because we couldn't do any hiking this day. I wanted to walk through it but it was narrow and there is plenty of traffic so I didn't get the opportunity but I did get some pictures! The few I got inside the tunnel are hard to see details but they will give you an idea of the inside. We also went throught from both sides.

Red River Gorge is a popular destination located in the eastern part of Kentucky, USA. It is a vast and scenic canyon system with numerous cliffs, gorges, and natural arches spread over 29,000 acres of land. The area is known for its unique rock formations, vibrant wildlife, and diverse plant species. It is a perfect place for hiking, rock climbing, camping, and enjoying the beauty of nature.
Red River Gorge is a part of the Daniel Boone National Forest and has been designated as a National Geological Area. It is home to over 400 species of plants, including rare and endangered ones. The area is also home to an abundance of wildlife, such as black bears, deer, bobcats, and many species of birds.
The rock formations in the Red River Gorge are a result of millions of years of erosion and weathering. The sandstone cliffs are famous among rock climbers as the area has more than 1,500 routes with varying degrees of difficulty. The cliffs range from 20 to 200 feet high, making it an ideal destination for climbers of all skill levels.
The natural arches in the area are also a popular attraction. The most famous of them all is the Natural Bridge, which is a 65-foot high limestone arch that spans 78 feet. It is one of the most photographed features in the area and can be accessed by a hiking trail.
There are over 70 miles of hiking trails in the Red River Gorge. The trails range from easy to difficult, and most of them offer breathtaking views of the surrounding canyon system. The trails are open year-round and are a great way to explore the area.
Camping is also a popular activity in the Red River Gorge. There are several campsites in the area, including developed and primitive ones. The developed campsites offer amenities such as restrooms, showers, and picnic tables, while the primitive campsites offer a more rustic experience.
In conclusion, the Red River Gorge is a beautiful and unique destination that offers a wide range of activities for nature lovers and adventure seekers. It is a perfect place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature.

SUGGESTIONS ⤵️⤵️⤵️
• Even if you’re just planning on driving through the Gorge, make sure you’re good on gas, and have a couple snacks/drinks. The drive can last anywhere from 20mins to 2hrs+ depending on how much you want to see. (You’ll definitely want to stop a couple times to check out beautiful scenes and outlooks on the drive— expect to spend at least 3 hours if you want to have a solid experience.
• Grab a map at the local gas station or stop in at the visitor center to plan the best route for your personal tastes.
• Fully charge your phone because you’ll want to take tons of pictures and videos. From the second you approach the Gorges rock tunnel entrance, you’ll understand why.
• BE CONSIDERATE OF MOTORCYCLES. Make sure you’re staying in your lane around sharp turns, and abiding to the speed limit. This is a geological area that is sometimes subject to washed out roads or possible falling rocks. It’s in EVERYONES best interest to take it easy on your drive through.
• Eagles Nest , The Suspension Bridge, Sky Bridge and Whistling Arch are incredible spots to visit.
MAKE SURE YOU GRAB A SLICE FROM MIGUELS PIZZA—- BUT ONLY AFTER SPENDING TIME IN THE GORGE.
Cheers and safe travels ✌🏽

Not only is this park free but it is so beautifully maintained. Every time I have visited the park rangers were wonderful at the visitor center and Slade. I love this park because we can drive up and take (short) walks to the arches or we can find longer routesif we want more of a hike. There is something for everyone! Bring a picnic and spend the day.

The best experience is nature. I feel close to the spirit here at The Red River Gorge . There are cabins available to rent that are so super unique .The views are ever changing and extremely beautiful on expert level hiking. The land is clean and well respected as it should be preserved . I was privileged to make the trip here while I’m young. I felt so small there in such a vast open space . My spirit felt so vast there as well . It was a beautiful awakening being in a tree hammock surrounded by bright green foliage layer overtop the blue sky . The warmth of the sun woke me just peeking through the trees when the morning air was still crisp . The night before I was just in my bedroom with four white walls covered in my paintings . Which is cool too . (Slightly Tilted Art )Lol I highly recommend hiking boots with ankle support . Don’t sleep with food if you don’t want animals nudging your direction . You are in their space . Be respectful to observe but not interfere. It is our job as humans to be respectful to nature . It is alive like us . Preserve the land and leave it better then you found it . Like people . Smiling yet ? Still reading ? Take trash away as you go . Don’t litter ever . We don’t disrupt nature . Don’t pollute the water . Just be in The Red River Gorge peacefully . Be absorbed by the clouds and how close you feel to them . I recommend this place not for the faint hearted . You will sweat and you will have your muscles burn . But it is worth the views . I’m going back again soon .

Have you ever heard the name of a place and imagined in your head what it would look like before you get there? Then you arrive and at first, you're not quite sure that what you thought of and reality are quite lining up. That is, until you start asking locals and fellow travelers (one of my favorite things to do in a new place) where their favorite must-see locations are as well as checking off a list of prospected interests. THEN the namesake starts to hit. What you imagined starts becoming a reality. So after consecutive days of 90 plus degree heat and what I'm certain was 139% humidity along with countless gnat bites and cuts and scrapes from the rocks and foliage, Red River Gorge got my seal of approval for adventure. Camping here for 3 days enhanced by unbeatable company was an unexpected treasure. Tons of tough hikes and beautiful vistas to earn all around the area. Plus! We got to see the Kentucky Reptile Zoo in person! I love going into a place knowing as little as possible so that the secrets within will be revealed to you instead just shifting from one iconic spot to the next. 10/10 adventure.
A 2,369-acre preserve featuring dramatic sandstone formations, hiking trails, fishing & a lodge.
We had the best time staying at the Lodge and exploring the park. Super easy to get to. We stayed 3 nights and hiked almost every trail. They are beautiful. I love that we went before the leaves were fully bloomed on the trees so that you could see through for a good while! The lodge had everything we needed, rooms were updated and clean fully equipped with shampoo/body wash, towels, hair dryer. Beds were comfy. Pillows could use some replacement but we brought our own. Little restaurants nearby are where we ate. Miguel’s pizza is a fun atmosphere and Daniel Boone coffee shop was a great spot for breakfast sandwiches and coffee . Their muffins are also amazing but they are busy always so be prepared for that! We also ate at red river rockhouse and got burgers which were amazing!! It was a really fun weekend.

Gorgeous park! There are so many beautiful areas and it would be amazing at any time of the year. Theres no bland woods here; its all just the hits of a good hike. Smooth rock walls, great views, and the natural bridge that is unique to this location. You can go under and above the bridge, and over to another area that has a great view of the bridge. If hiking isn't for you, there is a chair lift that will take you to the top as you get to enjoy a beautiful view along the way.

We came just to hike the Natural Bridge original trail at the end of our day of hiking in the Red River Gorge area. This is a really nice, moderate hike for 2 moms and 2 teens. Beautiful flora and fauna (the rhododendron were blooming) and plenty of resting benches on the way up. The arch is a really amazing natural wonder, and you can take the narrow stairs on the backside to the top. This hike was much more crowded than others we did, but it is also a more popular hike. Our hike was logged as 2.3 miles from our car. Plenty of free parking and restrooms and a little gift shop with drinks and snacks at the little visitor center near the parking lot.

We came just to see the arch. We rode the lift up and hiked down. The hike back to the lift was about 2 miles. You would definitely have a good hike ahead of you if you decide to hike up. It was a gorgeous arch and the hike was very fun and scenic. Amazing bluffs, tight squeezing through large rocks, very fun.

My wife and I only came for a few hours to do the original trail hike up to the natural bridge. It was a short and easy hike (at least for me) with nice views and the bridge was cool too. You are allowed to walk across the bridge which was also cool! For the less able or if you don’t feel like hiking up, there is a ski lift that takes you up close to the bridge and look out point. Would recommend coming here

Very beautiful park. Even on a Friday in Fall there were several families and people there. The park does a great job at giving people many options & opportunities to experience the park. There are many hiking trails, and several different features to hike too. Such as, the Bridge, Lovers Leap, Devils Gulch, Needle’s Eye, a small cave, several lookout points, and many others we didn’t get the chance to see. The gift shop at the park was closed, but the Hemlock Lodge has one to satisfy your needs. There are many campgrounds and cottages to stay at. As well as a sky-lift up to the bridge. Kentucky does a spectacular job keeping up with their parks, so be sure to take advantage of them.

More trails in this area than I thought, but seeing the Natural Bridge was top priority - a few detours to observe and walk over it and the nearby tram. Just past the tram is Battleship rock cliff, which offers great surrounding views. Rhododendron are abundant and forming blossoms, as are vinca vines. Trails range from easy at the top to moderate when walking the hillside. Look out for super cool rock erosion and a few caves, plus a spring. Good exercise all around, a must see if you are in the area.

We stayed at the lodge here, and there are so many local trails to walk to just from within the resort. Lots of good restaurants nearby as well. The hiking is amazing perhaps some of the best in Red River Gorge. We went up to natural Bridge, and through Devils Gulch, and it was breathtaking. Just driving around this area is spectacular. Perhaps some of the best hiking in the state.

I didn't stay at the resort, we just ate at the restaurant. Our service has always been attentive and friendly. The food at the buffet was good with lots of choices. The view was great. They also have a sky lift to the bridge, picnic area, playground, and much more.

Very cool place! The bridge is worth the long hike. The hike is one of the best parts of the experience as well. There are lots of natural rock formations on the way up to the bridge. You can also take a chair lift up though it is a bit pricey. The bridge itself is a beautiful sight. Also if you go past the bridge there are seats that you can overlook all of the trees and you can spot the bridge at as well. The gift shop doesn’t have many items that represent the bridge, bit they do have dip and dot which is a positive. Great place overall. There is also an alpine slide nearby which is worth an extra couple of miles of travel.

Stayed at the cabins here and enjoyed the quiet ambience. They definitely have some age to them but overall give you everything you need. We did find a dead mouse in our cabin and it took the staff about a day to take care of it, I would have appreciated slightly quicker reception. There is direct trail access from the resort to the natural bridge and it is awesome! Pretty uphill but only .75 miles. The natural bridge is gorgeous and provides a great view! If you are hiking to the bridge from the resort then you can’t really take the sky lift down because it drops you about 2 miles from the resort because it’s in the other side.

We did not stay at the resort.
This review is for the natural bridge trail experience only.
We parked down at the bottom of the trail. It was a steep staircase down by a water path. Then we crossed a swinging bridge and from there hiked up the mountain to the top of the natural bridge and across it to the other side to view the natural bridge and then all the way back down.
There was only one gift shop on this whole trail that was open. There was a vending machine of soda outside it. No bathrooms at all on this trail in November as they were closed for our of season.
The trail was clearly marked and clearly defined as to which way to go. There were stop points to sit down and rest along the way.
Be very careful of the tree roots hiding amongst the leaves on the forest bed as you walk. It is easy to trip.
The path to get to the top of the arch on this trail was narrow and somewhat steep. Would not accommodate a larger person easily. Nor a wheelchair or walker.
The lift was not open from mid November till April; as it is off season.
The view from the top was gorgeous! The colors were still visible even though it wasn't peak season for fall.
We truly enjoyed our visit and look forward to coming back another time to check out more trails and maybe even the Zipline!

...instead, a no name brand...that tastes like molasses or....well....it's awful....simple
adjustments could make the lodge better....DO It....good grief.

We are seniors, I am 65. The walk up to the bridge really wasnt that bad. It is well worth your time to so up there and look around. We want to go back and walk further to the other overlook. It looked to me that the view from the further overlook would be magnificent. There were 2-3 benches on the way up for breaks on the way up and my knees loved this.

I booked this trip for my husband’s birthday and at first everything was great. The location is amazing with trails right behind the rooms and it had just snowed 5in so the resort and bridge looked so nice. We got into our room and it looked older and not as nice, but we weren’t as concerned. We then went to dinner and our waitress wasn’t the nicest and the food wasn’t that good either, but we didn’t let that bother us too much since there was snow and probably limited staff because of it. We then went in our room and started getting settled in, which is when it went down hill.
The shower had different types of hair all of the ground and one big chunk of hair stuck inside the shower curtain. Not to mention, there were several towels with hair in them. They didn’t provide us with a lot of bar soap, which was frustrating since their “shower soap” looked very nasty and had things in it. After being disgusted, I went to go to sleep and once I pulled up the sheets I saw hair everywhere. Little pieces that looked like dog hair, men’s hair, and later a couple pieces of long hair. I was absolutely disgusted. I checked to see if I could flip the sheet over, but there was no sheet underneath that sheet and it was just the old crusty mattress, which looked worse. I wasn’t going to complain, but I couldn’t even sleep in the bed so I called the front desk. I was very polite and mentioned that there was some hairs on my sheet and asked if we can switch it for new sheets. The lady at the front desk, who has been watching movies the entire time we checked in and each time we were up there, said “I don’t know if we even have one, so come up here and check if we do.” Then she hung up…I’ve heard that the customer service is horrible at this place, but I was hoping I wasn’t going to experience it. We were in a different building and had to walk back up to the front with the snow and the thick ice, since she didn’t want to send a staff member or herself to our room. My husband got a singular sheet, not a whole new set of sheets, and saw that she was once again watching movies the entire time. She didn’t even look up to comment or apologize for the inconvenience. I’m shocked that we weren’t moved into a different room or didn’t at least have someone to come and change the sheets. She then asked what our room number was and my husband asked why, which she responded “people try to steal sheets, so I’m just making sure what room you guys are.” I know having to stay at work, while there is snow outside can be frustrating, but having zero sympathy or customer service with people, who are trying to be nice, is horrible. I have no idea how this place has almost five stars and I have no idea how service isn’t better when there is less people in the “resort”. Hopefully it’s better for others, but I will never be staying at this place again. Loved the location, but that unfortunately was the only good thing about this place.

This is my favorite hiking trail! Very short but steep!!! Keep that in mind also the ski loft option! And underground kayaking near by calling rv cabins!

Natural Bridge State Resort Park is a gem! The hiking trails are wonderful, providing a great outdoor experience. The breathtaking views over the bridge are a highlight, and the skylift ride offers the absolute best perspectives. A must-visit for nature enthusiasts!
