This collection of old buildings is amazing. The history that is saved her is some of the best. Great job. We really enjoyed our visit.

If you are looking for a sweet piece of history, Millard’s Crossing is the place. They have so many different cool things to see and their venue is fantastic

Great place to see! Most buildings are from the area & almost everything g is hands-on! Very unlike most historic places

I wish we had gotten here earlier! We had about 75 minutes, which was adequate, but we would have loved to have spent more time. We tried to go into the gift shop to buy some gifts at 4:53, but it was already closed and locked, so if you go, be mindful that they actually close before 5 pm! Otherwise, the facilities are so lovely. My kids (boys ages 1, 6, and 8) thoroughly enjoyed it and were engaged the entire time!

So much fun. I took the baby for Halloween. She had the greatest time. We went on a hayride, petting zoo, rode a horse, and bouncy castle. There was a headless horseman walking around. The cabins were decorated to walk through. It was so magical.

Beautiful place to visit at your own pace. Had the place all to our selfs

My sister and I came here to check it out. I had never been to Nacagdoches before. We both love touring historical and old homes. This is a small village with several houses and places to look through. It shows how they lived back in that era. I absolutely loved finding this place. You can plan a tour with a guide for $20 or be on your own for $10.

Wonderful place, I learned so much about local history and people. Staff was more than friendly and very informative. Especially enjoyed their big orange cat.

Great place to take a little walk and see some History. There's 3 old houses, a few cabins, a general store and much more. It's free to walk around and they do have guided tours.
It was over 100 degrees today , but some of the buildings are air conditioned so we were able to cool down.
The grandkids loved it.

A wonderful place to visit history. Well maintained and available for private events. Our concert was great and even more so at this venue.
Such a beautiful piece of land. We love to go for a small walk/ jog. It is being completely surrounded by nature while being in the middle of town. An absolute beautiful place to spend a healthy, dollar-free afternoon. Also, a really safe and great way to work-out toddler energy.
We also had our Christmas photos here right when the trees changed.

My wife and I and our 2-month old came up to the area for the weekend to enjoy ourselves in nature away from the hustle and bustle of big city life. The Azalea Garden was the first green space we visited on our trip and it did not disappoint. The azaleas were obviously not in bloom in late July, but the winding paved paths through the garden (perfect for a stroller!) gave us our first concentrated dose of Piney Woods, Texas. We even discovered a new tree that blew us away. We'll let you figure out what it is. Here's a hint: It's a special type of bald cypress.

Visiting close to mid-March and saw some amazing blooms. Should be amazing in just a couple of weeks!

I came from Houston to visit this place by searching on Google Maps. We entered by an one-way entrance which we had missed twice (that means we had made two rounds). The third time, thanks to a very kind man from the SFA Ground and Transportation in the nearby that we could find the way to get in there. Once we were inside, we saw some other parking lots on the other sides of the park, that meant there were other entrances, larger and easier to drive. If only Google Maps would have shown we the other way! This place is very nice, peaceful and plenty of beautiful flowers, but I am sure that many visitors from other places would miss out because it is too hard to find a way to access. That would be a shame since it is one of the most beautiful sites of Nacogdoches to visit.
Ly Giai Hoa — Google review
Lovely stroll in beautifully maintained gardens! Many markers to read and learn about the varieties of azaleas and other plants, and out of this world beautiful in the spring (in March). Could easily spend an hour meandering on this highly shaded walk.
Can be easily walked with little effort. Some areas are wheelchair accessible, but not all. No bathrooms near park, so plan ahead. Plenty of benches to sit down and enjoy the scenery.
Also connects to the shade garden at SFA as you cross the river on the bridge.

This garden is a must see for azalea season! It is really beautiful! I posted some photos I took while there. There is parking inside the garden. The entrance is hard to see and is flanked by huge azaleas. It is a narrow 1 lane path, but the area opens up to a small lot. There is also parking just up the street near the SFA Transportation and Grounds bldg. The path is asphalt and the majority looks to be wheel chair friendly. We saw the majority of the garden in about 2.5 hours strolling, chatting and taking photos.I didn't see any picnic tables, but there are lots of benches throughout. The garden is always open, is dog friendly and there is no fee to visit. There are no restrooms.
Stacie Hanson — Google review
We LOVED this garden with trails! What a treasure…we will be back! It is a well kept botanical garden with many seating areas for reading, relaxing, visiting, or picnicking. We loved the variety of plants that they grew.
Elizabeth Webb — Google review
Compact, lush garden with meandering walking paths and sitting benches scattered throughout. While not big, there's plenty to see if you're willing to be interested in plants & greenery. In spite of being bordered by University Drive, little of the traffic noise permeates very far into the garden. The overall impression is of quiet solitude. On a weekday morning there were just a few other folks strolling the paths. It makes for a quiet retreat in the midst of the city.

Absolutely one of my favorite places to get my exercise start for the day. It doesn’t matter what season we are in , it’s a beautiful peaceful place to walk , talk, workout. One of the beautiful things about Nacogdoches.

I've seen numerous small Texas towns and cities display themselves as historical. But, Nacogdoches, Tx stood head and shoulders above them. On a recent visit I decided to take a walking tour at night. The shear historical recognition by the local community was commendable. As, a Texas resident I realized I had missed a gem. I highly recommend visiting Nacogdoches, Tx.

Loved this little town
The atmosphere and people are so friendly.
It is a beautiful park and a great getaway. There aren't many amenities, but that also means it's not as crowded as other places. You pay at an unmanned paystation at the entrance after first driving in and selecting your site. The restrooms were a plus, and within easy walking distance of the single camp sites. I'm not sure if there is a restroom near the group sites. There is currently construction blocking a few foot bridges connecting Loop A with the brook and lake area, which kind of sucked, but we just drove over there instead. I'm looking forward to going back once all the construction is done. The hiking trail is awesome too!
The website doesn't have pics of the sites, so I'll post one here. Tent pad, fire pit, bbq pit, picnic table, and food/trash hook. Drinking water spickots are strategically placed at convenient spots. No firewood or anything for sale. You either arrive with what you need, or you forage. The closest corner store for ice is about 10 minutes away, so not too bad. However, the store is on the edge of a dry County, so you'll need to go north another 15 minutes to buy beer.

Beautiful little park. Just what I campground should be if you are looking for primitive camping yet nice facilities and trails that are good for all ages. Do take caution that a couple of the wooden bridges are in need of repairs or are missing all together on the sawmill trail. Still very navigable.

It's a beautiful park with a $5 day use fee. We stopped in for just about 10 minutes and took a very short walk. Before we returned to our vehicle they had already put an envelope on the windshield requesting payment. I can understand if you are there for a picnic or whatever but 10 minutes?
Dana Smith — Google review
Beautiful little place in the National Forest. Self pay when you enter, camping is $10 a night or $5 for day use. Nice natural springs and rock to explore and swim in or you can go out to the little lake. Showers and bathrooms. It's beautiful out here and one of our favorite places.
Nicole Reese — Google review
I came here yesterday for my first time camping, and had a great time. The spring and lake are gorgeous, and the campsites are nice. It sits in Angelina National Forest, which is so beautiful and calming. There is a camp host who drives around and checks to make sure everyone is OK, which made me feel more comfortable.
I do wish they had more hiking trails. There is just one sawmill hike, which isn't marked the best. For only 10$ I think it's a great place to camp. Day entrance is free if you don't want to camp. There are bathrooms that were clean (a little run down, but its the forest, so just happy to have a bathroom). There is also a Dollar General and few Gas Stations about 9 minutes away in case you forget anything.
The little waterfall and bridges are gorgeous. Highly recommend.

For Southeast Texas this is about as pretty as it gets and we've tried a lot of places. We enjoyed the different types of scenery and the trails the spring and the lake along with the Sandy Beach along the creek that feeds the lake. Can't wait to come back in the summer

This is a beautiful off the beaten path area. There is now a campground host on duty and a $5 day use fee. There is a lake for swimming, a spring, picnic tables, restrooms and a covered pavillion with a fireplace. There is also tent camping allowed but Im not sure about the price.

Area is very well developed. Campsites designated in safe areas, grills & bathrooms. White sand beach area in the middle of the woods formed by the clear running spring water and local creeks. Clean rec. site, original cemetery, safe trails and parking. Could visit with young kids or elders.

This is a nice campground. $10 a day for camping five dollars a day if you have the pass for the national Forests. Bathroom and showers, hiking and fishing, my dog loves the place. The camp host is awesome. I found this place last year when I was down here for the winter.

Kenna Tidwell — Google review
Mostly flat trail, but with a few steep inclines, intermittently that could cause some strain to stiff ankles and bad knees. 4 older, but stable small wooden bridges and one sketchy “balance beam” type crossing. Takes about 2 1/2 miles to get out to the old sawmill, but if you’re not looking to do a 5 mile round-trip hike, there is a nice 1&1/2 foot waterfall next to the trail, about a half mile from the start of the trail, which would be a nice goal spot for tiny hikers and young kids. Bring more water than you think you need, and we suggest sunscreen, because it is mildly shaded. The trail is poorly marked at the very beginning. When you leave the parking lot and cross the bridge, go to the left at about 10 o’clock towards the bush line, and you should see a break in the bushes, with a sign for the Sawmill Trail. It leads you across some concrete cobblestones in a creek, and then to the right directly through the middle of a campground with tent-pads. It feels sort of weird walking between people who have their tents set up, their picnic tables laid out, their trucks parked there, but if you keep walking across their campsite, you should eventually start to see a tiny one-person-wide trail. That’s it, no sign, and it’s a while down that trip before you start to see markers nailed to the trees. Keep going until you hit the road crossing and see the trail start sign, and have a good time! There are distance markers about every 3/4 of a mile. When you get to the dead end at about 2&1/4 mile, and the trail splits to the right and left, go to the right, that gets you to the sawmill quicker. Back behind the three main buildings, there is also a section with 20 small pillars/pylons that are fun to climb.

Great spring along trail to stop and relax, have lunch and let kids play.
Logging-focused museum with hands-on exhibits, old equipment & outdoor trains, plus a gift store.
We found this museum during our road trip to Houston. Kids had a great time there.
Inside is very clean. Many activities for kids, especially for little transportation fans. (There are many cars, trucks indoor. ) There are also many trucks/trains outdoor. (But mosquitoes in summer)

Really interesting smallish museum which we visited on our recent trip down to Houston. Some exhibits inside which talk through the history and jobs involved in the forestry business with old.ohitos and equipment from the past. There is also good reference to the inequality in pay and jobs available for Women and people of colour in the early years and the segregation. Outside there is a steam train showing what would have been used and some additional equipment from the past.

Came here for my nephew's birthday party. It was almost a 2 hour drive, but it's a cute little museum with some interesting history to learn from it. I bought some postcards, stickers, a fridge magnet and a t-shirt.
There are pamphlets for scavenger hunts, sketching, etc, and plenty of activities for young children to enjoy as well. There is a play room where kids can make names or pictures with wooden pegs, make poems on a magnetic board, dress up like a fireman, or dress up in vintage clothing and play house. I would absolutely recommend bringing your children here, and checking out the gift shop too.

Love this neat place. My son and I can play in the kid zone for more than two hours every week. I especially love that most of the toys were made by staff in the museum and are kind of Montessori style. The staff make a great effort to keep the museum clean, fun, interactive and educational. The outside display is great too.

We really enjoyed the museum. Admission is FREE but donations are gratefully accepted. We decided to check it out since it was too chilly to hike at the State Park. There is a great hands on area for the kids to play. My kids really enjoyed the train and vehicles on the backside of the property but it was really cold and we couldn't stay out in that weather for too long.
Rhinos, big cats & many other species plus educational programs in a leafy 15-acre spot.
A really, really nice little Zoo located on the loop on the North side of Lufkin. They have around 800 animals at this Zoo that are also located by a lake and Park. Also included is a miniature train much similar to the Houston Zoo. Although not at big it more than makes up for it with the beautifully landscaped grounds and amenities. They have a refreshment stand, gift shop, and conveniently located restrooms. It is well laid out and you can complete the tour taking your time in around two hours. Lots of shade trees, fountains, and benches. They have Alligators, Flamingos, a White Rhino, Giraffe's, Hippos, which is why we went because our 6 year old wanted to see Hippo's. The Houston Zoo no longer has them! They have many different kinds of birds, Parrots, Macaws, Emus, Eagle's, King Vulture's, Kookaburra's and other including a healthy population of Peacocks and a couple of Albino Peacock's. They have a reptile house with a lot of snakes, lizards, turtles, poison dart frogs and others. It's a lot to see in a small setting and very well worth your money and time. The prices are very reasonable and your kids will really enjoy it. I've been through Lufkin many times and heard of it, but this is the first time we went just for the Zoo! I highly recommend it!

Very nice zoo. Although it's small, they have alot of critters. Great entrance fees. It is nicely landscaped, with large trees that shade the walkways. Plenty of rest areas with benches, tables, chairs and all covered. The train wasn't working. Nice lake with walking trails, picnic areas and playgrounds.

Pretty and a good variety of animals. Does have Giraffes and Rino’s, but No Elephant. No large apes. I don’t think the Zoo gets enough donations to house the large mammals in a VERY HUMANE WAY. So donate! The train ride is unique and cool on a hot day. Two huge pavilion’s to have parties.

I've been to a bunch of zoos in my life. This one was surprisingly small. But the experience was amazing! The peacocks and other birds just walking around by you. and your so close to all the animals. It was completely shady! It was definitely a different experience and I will be bringing my kids back again soon! We had so much fun!! Great price too!
It's the gift shop that gets you lol

This is a great little zoo in Lufkin. It costs $8 per person and should take about 2 hours to see everything. There is a train that costs an extra $2 per person but is definitely worth it, the train will show you around the general area. Along with a walking track around a little lake. I recommend the rear car on the train. An enjoyable experience for both young and old.

Perfect for a family day. We went on a Tuesday and practically had the zoo to ourselves. Zoo needs a little bit of maintenance but overall the walkways were cleared and all the animals were out. We especially loved the hippos and the bald eagle!!

Had a blast with my daughter. Recently moved here and despite being small this zoo is great! Has a great atmosphere, pricing is good, and looks like it's kept clean. The peacocks roaming around make for great photos. The train was closed for maintenance on the day we went though. :(

This is a small zoo... many of the exhibits were empty. The animals were pacing, I think the enclosures were too small and there wasn't really anything in them to entertain the animals. This zoo has so much potential so it's a real shame.

This was a great little zoo! Lots of animal exhibits lots of nice space and shade, all in all a great experience! Lol and there was a duck out front by the lake that wags his tail feathers like a dog! Super funny.
Michael Partridge — Google review
We visited this zoo for the first time recently on a Monday.
It was almost completely empty, so it was nice for us to be able to take our time reading all the info plaques, observing the flora, and interacting with the animals instead of fighting crowds.
We started with a train ride, which is about 5min long, goes on a track around wooded areas and a lake outside the zoo, and costs $2/pp. We enjoyed this, and saw other families getting on to ride a second time.
The zoo looks very small from the outside, but we were able to spend a couple hours walking around once inside. There are rules posted at the entry and they have free maps to take along with you. There's also a small concession stand as you enter; which is the only one available so grab your drinks and snacks before getting started.
Some of the animals we saw were kookaburras, sloths, komodo dragons, alligators/crocs, snakes, bats, parrots, emus, a lion, a tiger, and a leopard. There are also a great many peacocks/hens roaming freely all over the grounds. It was fun seeing them up close, strutting their feathers, and calling to one another. Every animal seemed to be healthy and in a clean environment. Don't miss the reptile house!
The paths are wide and flat; great for wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers. There are various places to sit and watch the animals, some areas are shaded. There were a couple of areas that also had tables to use (outside food is permitted).

what a fantastic zoo! feels much more intimate/less corporate than your average zoo - it’s set in a very leafy park that the exhibits blend in to, & the animals can roam freely w/o always being in sight of visitors. makes it feel all the more special when you see the jaguar, lion, or hippo. the ticket prices are such a bargain, & the staff we encountered were all wonderful.

Absolutely love this zoo, still one of my favorites as far as zoos go. It has tons of cool animals and a very family-friendly layout. As a sidenote, the Spanish translations on every sign are absolute trash, like this one that says "please no barrier Cross" (as in the cross they crucified Jesus on) 😂
Noah Bishop — Google review
This zoo was fantastic! We went on a Monday morning and there was nobody there so we got to walk through almost by ourselves. They have a wide variety of animals like lions, tigers, leopards, giraffes, rhinos, turtles, peacocks, raccoons and even an indoor reptile exhibit with snakes and dart frogs and bats. Also they have a train that drives around for kids to ride and see the walking trail and everything. All the animals looked so hot but I did see employee's walking around actively feeding and even watering some of the animals to get them cooled down, so at least there's that. Can't recommend this place enough I had a great time.

This is definitely a smaller museum, but it is worth a visit! It had many learning opportunities while remaining fun for younger kids. The model dinosaurs and space exhibit were great for our preteen, and even our toddler enjoyed the layout and movement of the exhibits. The price is very reasonable and we spent just the right amount of time exploring.
I was told they prefer you purchase tickets at the counter instead on online, which was no problem since there was no wait when we entered.

20 years ago, it was probably a nicer spot. Now, none of the video presentations work, the lighting is poor throughout, with it being very difficult to see many of the artifacts inside the dark glass cases. The collection is ok (not outside the norm of what you could find at moat county or town history museums), but the presentation needs work

I love this museum- all the Dinosaurs are wonderful and Dr. Naranjo and his family and many friends dug most of these dinosaur bones themselves.
Dr. Naranjo will give you a tour if requested or a lot of the time he’s at the museum and will tell you all about the dinosaur bones.
Bring your family and children.
They also do Birthday parties at the museum. Great fun for all the family

I left pondering the mystery of why the mound area was abandoned. This was a large community that the Caddos dispersed from but still live in the area.

Staff member was extremely welcoming. I enjoyed the easy viewing of mounds via golf cart. Appreciate the opportunity to view and learn of history at this site. Other sites should follow your lead.

Awesome site & a lot of fun driving the inçluded golf cart on the trails. The new visitor center should be open by November 2023. Highly recommend you visit the site. It is worth the drive. Plenty of parking. It is handicap accessible. Very friendly & knowledgeable staff.

The Caddo Mounds State Historical Site is a beautiful historical site and a must visit whether it's just you or with your children. There is so much history here and you will learn alot about the Caddo Indians that lived here many years ago. You can visit the lobby and read alot about them but if you pay for the site self tour, they will provide a golf cart to use free of charge. I highly recommend this historical site for your next visit when you're in the area.

Wow! This place was awesome. There was a tornado about 2 years ago and the museum was destroyed. They have improvised by using a temporary structure while they are rebuilding. Unfortunately it has rained so much this spring they haven’t been able to work steadily. They are able to have a small display area and an informative video available explaining the mounds and the Caddo Culture. The entire trail around the mounds, including the El Camino Real section, is a mere 1.5 miles. It was very easy to walk. Please be sure to keep your eyes open for the entrance sign. Since the tornado they are using an area east of the construction site as headquarters and the signs are a little hard to see. They’re white with red lettering, not the typical brown ones for park sites.

My husband and I stopped in and spent some time walking the path around the Caddo Indian Mounds. It was very interesting. We learned lots. Family friendly and worth the stop.

Had a great experience beautiful nicely set up main building where we watched a short film over the Caddo indians. After we rode a golf cart to see the mounds and from there walked through their hiking trails which we loved. We came back and looked at the garden and inside of the Caddo grass house. It was all wonderful and the people working there were so kind and informative. Definitely recommend for an affordable nice time out.

This site in texas is wonderful and gorgeous. Though a tornado had ripped through it in 2019, it is coming back strong. There are three mounds on site and a borrow pit. They are still in a trailer for the visitor center until the new one is done. it is still a nice place to visit and learn about one site that connects to a great deal of history and the culture of the Caddo Nation. I will certainly be back! The staff was super friendly and helpful too!

The historic site has recovered since being hit by the tornado in 2019. There is a nice exhibit on the Caddo Indians. Since the grounds are expansive, you get to use a golf cart to tour the grass house and the mounds.
The grass house replica was really cool to see. You don’t realize how tall they were until you are standing next to it.
Reading the panels on the mounds is ver interesting. Seeing the pit where the Caddo got the dirt to construct the mounds is incredible. It pit was hand dug and the soil was carried in baskets.
Stop by when you are on the El Camino Real. It is close to the Mission Tejas State Park.

Went on a guided foraging excursion and then learned how to cook what we foraged outside in a Dutch oven. A wonderful place!
Sara Hill — Google review
The site is dedicated to native Caddo Indians whose trade routes between today's Louisiana and Mexico City were renamed as El Camino Real, and used by European settlers. Sharing the same fate as other indigenous tribes, the Caddo was relocated to the Indian Territory that became the state of Oklahoma. Following the destruction of the museum by a tornado in 2019, a temporary visitor centre was established. With the low admission cost of $4, visitors can learn about the 'grass house', social structure and history of the Caddo. Smallpox introduced by the Europeans was disastrous, to which immunity was apparently absent. It is believed that a new temple was constructed on the ashes of its predecessor. Upon completion of its service, a temple was burnt to the ground to support the construction of the successor temple on the same site, thereby giving the mound its elevated appearance.
Second visit here, brought friends with us this time. We all enjoyed it so much! Highly recommend for any age. Friendly staff & lunch at the Pickett house was delicious as always!

Great way to spend a few hours with the family. Quaint little village with lots of history and neat things to look at. It was nice and peaceful. Self-guided tour, but the staff in the gift shop and restaurant gave us friendly and excellent service. It is a bit of walking and did not have ramps available in a couple of areas (we had to pick up the stroller and carry up some stairs twice) but mostly easily accessible. Prices in the restaurant, village and gift shop were all reasonable. There is no menu, its a set family style meal and it's all you can eat. The food was fresh and delicious, like it came straight out of a Granny's kitchen. Definitely would love to go back.

Loved visiting this place and going through all the buildings that hold so much history. My favorites were the church and school. The gift shop has many treasures that you won't find elsewhere.

Amazing place to transport back in time to see what life was like in frontier towns. Several buildings are authentic or parts are authentic from old towns in the area. Call ahead to find when they are providing demonstrations as you will be able to see people performing some of the trades. Even without the performances, I loved this destination.

Neat place. Nice gift shop. It took us about 40 minutes to go through the outer buildings and about 30 minutes to go through the store. The lady behind the counter was knowledgeable & nice. I wouldn't eat at the restaurant again but the rest of the experience was good.
600-acre rustic park with campsites, nature trails & a fishing pond amid a forest of tall pines.
We love mission tejas. Great park. Campsites are nice. Trails are amazing. They range in difficulty. Awesome history too with the mission and the old house. Will be back to this one for sure!

Right now as of March 2024 the park is closed to campers and the mission itself is also closed. I was able to hike most of the trails but some of those were closed. Everything is scheduled to re-open in July. Very peaceful and beautiful out there!

This Texas State park is not only a natural science wonder, but a park full of Texas History. The trails are great. The air is refreshing with the scent of Loblolly pine. And the history and buildings take you back in time.
Jasmin Hamilton — Google review
The park itself is a nice park, but the maintenance is lacking. Of most notable problems, campsites A and B share water spigots. They are still using galvanized pipe to it, and therefore the water was not drinkable without boiling.
The person that checked me in didn't seem very happy to be working there. She also told me that dogs were not allowed at the park, yet there are signs posted everywhere saying to keep your pets, not service animals, on a leash. I checked on the website before leaving to make sure pets were allowed.
The maintenance crew apparently leave cut trees where they fall, beside the trail.
Bathrooms were clean and well kept for the playground and camps A and B. I didn't visit any others. Probably a good park for a day trip, but I don't think I would spend the night again. My campsite looked like it hadn't been used in a while. The picnic table and fire pit/grills were completely full of old pine needles that were beginning to decay. The sand for the tent area was so hard and compacted, you could barely get a stake in with a hammer.
Dan Patterson — Google review
We enjoyed what we were able to see which was their small museum and the Rice cabin. They were doing work and updates in the park. I'm grateful they didn't charge but still were able to view these two things.

Such a very unique park! We enjoyed the trails, the old log cabin, the mission, the cool things we found on the trail and the history surrounding this park. We spent about 4 good hours at the park going through all the buildings and the trails. It was really neat to read the history behind the El Camino Real and then to know that you were walking on the same road that so many others have before you! Such a great park to visit for a great "real life" science and history lesson. We will be back again to share with the kids!

The park is currently under renovations to upgrade the electrical. I have seen the Mission before and didn’t get a chance this trip with the renovations.
They have a new headquarters and interpretive center. Very nice. I’m looking forward to seeing the park again when the work is completed. It is a beautiful park.

We arrived on a weekend when most of the park was closed for upgrades and repairs.
The ranger was so very helpful and welcoming. She filled out water bottles for us and showed us which trails were open and made some recommendations based on the ages of our daughters.
We had a wonderful time hiking and exploring. This is going to be our next park to revisit in a few months.
The bathrooms were spotless and well stocked. All of the facilities were very well kept and the park was very clean and well maintained.
5 stars all around! We look forward to going back to explore the entire park in the future.

For only $3 for a day pass, this state park was phenomenal! The hiking was not flat being essentially just a walk in the woods. The trails are beautifully marked and there are park maps frequently so it's harder to get lost. There was not any cell reception so using alltrails was not an option and it worked out. I really enjoyed my experience here. If you can, go check this park out!

I stayed here for two nights in January, 2023 and then two nights in April, 2023. Both experiences were great. I camped in first-come, first-serve, lakeside, non-electric sites, mid-week ($15 per night.) Each site had a nice picnic table, level tent pad, lantern pole, nearby water faucet, and fire ring. Being that I stayed mid-week, there were no campers in the sites near me. I did notice that the reservation sites near me were booked for the upcoming weekend so it was going to get busier. The lake, trails, trees, and wildlife made for a nice nature experience. The bathrooms were clean. The hosts were very nice. They cleaned up the sites as needed.

Beautiful COE park with tent and RV camping. Pd $20 per nite march of 2022. Sites are well spaced 30 amp with water. Swimming beach bathhouse and trails. Sites are plenty big for our 35 foot fifth wheel but roads are narrow and can be a challenge getting in the site. Huge stands of loblolly pine and blooming eastern redbud.

Hiking the 4-C National Recreation Trail in Davy Crockett National Forest was very peaceful. I went on a Sunday morning, and even though I hiked for about 3 hours, I only ever saw one other set of hikers on the trail. About 2/3 of the northern paer od the trail is currently shut down, so there currently isn't access to that, but the part I did was great. Not strenuous.

Much prettier than we imagined. We were there in winter and it was wonderful. A little challenging in a big coach, but can be done. Not all sites are level. Not all have easy access to water so fill your tanks first when you pull in or bring lots of hose.

This place was secluded, woody and so quiet. One of the absolute most beautiful campgrounds I've been to and with my America The Beautiful Senior Lifetime pass it was only $80 for 8 days. I had 30 amp electric on-site and they were dump stations and potable water filling available inclusive with the stay. I would go back here anytime. Amazing, beautiful park.

Beautiful area. We stayed at Ratcliff Recreation Area. Nice Park as well, great for camping. Most sites for RV have 30 amp power and no water hookups. Make sure you stop by and fill up your fresh water tank before setting up. Unless you have plenty of water hose. Other than that, we had a great time enjoying the peace and quiet.

I came here on a camping trip over 2 years ago, and I still remember how beautiful the area is and plan on going again. I didn’t stay in the traditional camping area - I went out far in the more wilderness areas. Clean and the horse trails near my site were long and gorgeous.

We stayed at the Ratcliff Recreation Area for 3 days camping. It was absolutely beautiful and quiet (except for some highway noise). We brought our dog, and he had a blast as well! Most people followed the rules by keeping their dogs on leash, saw a couple without but they were well behaved at least. Trails are easy to navigate and were well taken care of, there's even an accessible hiking trail for people with mobility aids! Love this! Restrooms were cleaned daily by camp hosts and we're very clean and stocked with TP, but no soap dispenser or paper towels/hand dryers. Showers worked great, hot water came on quickly and stayed hot! Overall 10/10 camping trip and we'll definitely be back to do it again soon!

First you need to make sure they have available campsite or RV site before you drive. This place is very well organized and managed. Great for friends, family, and solo camping. There's a 20 miles hiking trail you can hike, but if that too much for you. There's a 4 loop hike around the campsite will take you by the lake to the picnic area and back to your campsite.
Hammock are allowed which is Awesome!
Showers/ bathrooms get clean daily.
There's a fire pit NOT a grill by the tent campsite. You will need grilling net or your own grill. I used the foil to wrap the good.
Couple tent campsite are close to each other for a group camping.
If you have a truck you can find a fire wood around the park and bring it to your campsite( save you some money)
You can use a boat ( NO Motor) in the lake to fish.
There's a hardware a store/ beers about 2.3 miles away.

Not happy about them changing the inclosed smoking section to non-smoking & making you leave your machine to go outside to smoke. Would rather support our local (Texas) casino, but will probably spend my gambling money in Louisiana until they bring back the smoking area. Also, Louisiana casinos allow people to wear a face shield for those that have trouble breathing in a mask. Naskila refuses to accommodate people that have trouble breathing in a mask. You can wear a face shield, but have to wear a mask under it which some people can't do due to health issues.
Back after a year & 1st time using the Express Bus & I have to say it was a great experience, felt for the driver due to traffics on returning to Houston (Katy Freeway stop location) I would suggest adding an addition hour on returning to Houston (9:30am pick up & 4:45pm departure) would suggest 5:30pm so there's less traffic upon return & would help the driver... all was well inside Naskila (not a winner) had a fun time & staff is at tentative & helpful..

For a casino I was shocked when we were told no smoking no drinking!?! But I was pleasantly surprised by how well I enjoyed the gaming and atmosphere 😀! Simple slot machines, but they are paying plenty! Free soda and water made this a refreshing retreat. The drive is beautiful to the gaming facility and there are neat artificacts about the reservation throughout the casino. The land and buildings are so beautiful and historical. It's not all about the gaming, it about learning the tribes and about the land when you go to Nasilka. My next visit I hope to go to the restaurant at this casino.

I have been to many of these Indian Casinos. This one is nothing but slot machines. I looked around the lowest minimum bet I found was 0.25 on one cent machines. They do not have many of these smaller betting machines. The larger wagering machines are $5 and $10. There are a.couple places to eat inside prices may run a little high like most casinos. They do offer soft drinks water, coffee, sweet tea,no unsweet tea. I did not see any big pay out when I visited. This casino is good to visit for a couple hours. Give it a try but we went on a Saturday you could not find an empty machine without waiting.

I would like to start off by thanking the staff for their friendly hospitality and willingness to assist this old Military Veteran . I would also like to say thank you to Whitney Williams for her assisting me, and figuring out how to finally write a review, lol. CeCe fir brings us cold drinks which such an infectious smile and awesome attitude.
I have enjoyed going to this casino every Friday for the last 5 weeks in a row. The machines have been great to me and my neighbor. As you may know there is a nonsmoking and enclosed smoking areas. Slots run from pennies to dollars. See time trending charts for best times any day of the week. They have a restaurant that serves steaks and other items.
Now for the best go to the cafe area. The most Friendliest person is ECHO, she goes out of her way to make sure you get the most for your money. When there was no melted cheese for nachos, they are great; she improvised and melted grated cheese for us. She certainly should be emulated by others, and I truly feel that she should be the manager of the café based off of her performance that I have personally observed over the last few months here. Echo is all about CUSTOMER SERVICE and is personally vested in her job performance. It is always a pleasure to see her working in the cafe. Go and visit Echo in the Cafe and say hi you won’t be disappointed.
Try the brisket nachos and Nathan hot dogs they are soooooooo good. Pizza is ok; I wish they would bring back turkey sandwiches they were really good. Get free drinks from fountain dispenser and don’t pay for drinks at cafe unless you are a Big Winner lol.
As far as parking there is plenty. You can take a bus out of Houston if you don’t feel like driving a short hour and a half.
Go and enjoy this east Texas jewel. Thanks again Echo for your hospitality and Customer Service which is lacking in many other places these days.
See pictures and enjoy

We really enjoyed our visit to the Naskila Casino. It was nicely lit, and the slot machines were well laid out. We were glad that they have a separate smoking area. The casino was actually larger than we expected. For those interested, they do have a few poker machines, but 99% of the electronic machines are slots. And there's a good variety. Also, the restaurant had good food and service. And one last note... it was nice not to have to be concerned about state taxes on any Jackpot wins!

We arrived on Friday around 215pm and was greeted by two very nice ladies at check in. This was our first time to any state park and were a little unsure of how all this worked. They walked us through it and got us checked in. I purchased the one year park pass to all the state parks and it got me a discount on my second nights stay.
The facility was very nice and we found the park to be well maintained. We easily found our RV spot and were pleased with the setup. Only thing I wish we could have done was trim a couple small branches that contacted out 5th wheel. The park was quiet even though there was a huge influx of other campers arriving to the park later that evening. Everyone was respectful and kept their sites in order. We will definitely be back in the future!
The park store was nice and just FYI if you have the state park pass you get a good discount on the stores items. A lot of people brought their kayaks and boats. We were just there to unwind some, which we did. Overall I give this a 5 star experience if you are looking for relaxation with access to a BIG lake. If you are looking for a ton of activities, then you may be a little disappointed unless you bring them yourself.

This is a beautiful park, with nature's friends everywhere you look. The trails (that we experienced) were stroller friendly, and there was no shortage of picnic spaces. There were many interactive learning spots along the trails, also.
The activity center was very nicely laid out, and it had a wonderful view of the lake. The kids enjoyed the slide and swings after our light "hike".
When camping, we enjoyed the large campsites. Pin Oak section was complete with electric and water hookups for campsites. The shower house/bathrooms were very tidy and decently clean, and I really appreciated the stall layout for the two showers.
The store has a observation tower, and you can also find a Nature Center inside for the kids!

Washrooms we’re typical State Park type but no heating. You’d never want to shower as it would be too cold. I found the night quiet and I felt safe.

We stayed in the Piney Shores area. The loop is nice and clean, sites are very clean and well maintained, this loop and the Yaupon Loop have full hookups. The water pressure is great. Used the bathroom by the cabins/boat ramp and it is nice and clean. Will definitely come back. The park store/nature center is great, well stocked and the rangers are very nice and helpful.

We've glamped at many state and national parks, and Lake Livingston is in our top three! The lake is serene, and they have many campsites overlooking it. The sites are spacious with concrete pads and full hookups. We were there in February, and we saw too many bird species to list here. The trails and roads are easy to navigate, and they have a large fishing pier (although no one was catching), observation deck, camp store, day use, and so much more. Also check out the nearby town of Livingston, especially the eclectic historic district. What's not to love?

Park is nice and quiet. We stayed in red oak area with full hookups. Site 42 at red oak. We were by the bathhouse so people would come from the woods to go to the bathhouse and walk on our site. The site has a lot of trees and would be great for summer shade camping. Concrete pad was level. Watch out for the ditches. It can be tight when trying to park. Trails are wide enough for bikes. Lots of picnic tables and day area, boat ramp, and fishing pier. The playground is small with swings and a slide. There is a small camp store. They have interactive with reptiles at camp store....be careful! Restrooms and showers are very clean and have hot water!
Saw a lot of birds, squirrels, and plenty of squirrel nests. This is one of our favorite state parks.
If you get a chance to go on a hike, please go. The Rangers are very knowledgeable. Thanknyou Ranger Eric

This is an excellent state park with numerous facilities to ensure an active and fun filled escape from your everyday routine. The park staff is friendly and helpful and the maintenance personnel are out early and often to keep everything in good shape and clean.
Hiking, fishing, horseback riding, archery, bike riding, boating, paddle boarding and enjoying nature and the fresh air are all readily available. There are a variety of campsites available for RV’s and separately for tent campers both near the lake and further away for more solitude.
The campsites are fairly large and well arranged for setting up a comfortable camp. Unfortunately, there is not sufficient foliage between the sites to provide a noise buffer. So you can easily hear the activities of your nearby neighbors if they happen to be a bit noisy.

This is a beautiful Texas State Park. The campsites are large and very well kept. The folks in the camp store make you feel welcome and answer questions with a smile. I planned 10 days here. The trails keep me busy along with relaxing by the campfire in the evenings.

Great for picnics and fishing, a nice place to spend your weekend with family. The squirrels are friendly and the playground was near by. We got to see a mesmerizing sun set.
Lakeside park with a marina, campground, boat ramp & rentals, plus sand courts & a playground.
Spent Saturday and Sunday. My first time there. Was amazing, it was a fantastic day. Great weather on Saturday, was a cloudy day on Sunday. What made it extra special was spending time with my grandsons.

We rented an RV spot and the park is nice and well kept. The staff was extremely friendly. However, the park isn't very family friendly, the playground isn't shaded, you have to enter the 'swim area' via some steps, and there just isn't much for small children to do in general.
Savannah Minton — Google review
My wife and I booked a short stay in the park during the month of March. We found the park to very pleasant and pretty quiet. The park was completely booked for the weekend. We stayed spot 10 in the first circle by the boat ramp. We have a 40' 5th wheel and found the spot to be a tight squeeze and unlevel to the point that I used all my available wheel chocks and X-chocks to keep the trailer from rolling when I unhooked the truck. This was made worse by where my front landing gear made contact with the ground, there was a large hump on the asphalt. That was really my only issue with the park. I did scope out several other spots close to where we stayed that would have been a little more big rig friendly. This is the reason I am only giving 4 stars.
Also be conscious that you are really not closed to much other than the small town of Cold Springs. If you need a big box store for whatever, you are about 30 mins from Walmart in Livingston. I don't necessarily consider that a drawback but I am just make sure people realize this before they stay in the area.
Overall we found this park to be well worth the stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

We always enjoy our stays at this little gem of a park. The water on Lake Livingston is entirely too low, so no boat launching from here, but the park is still great. Well maintained, great staff and lots of shade to enjoy Texas summers and these cooler 90 degree plus "fall" days too.

The water was clean, and felt really nice! There was green grass to set up your towels and lounge chairs, umbrella, etc. They had restrooms, plenty of parking, plenty of areas to sit, (no built in canopies or picnic tables though) but they had a designated swimming area roped off. My kids had a blast, and met some new friends! We will most definitely be coming back! This park is awesome, and it also has a playground. 🥳

Beautiful park and setting, there was a heavy presence of park workers during the day and a constable in the evening. We did have a problem with tent campers being loud our first night but the staff was receptive to our complaint the next morning. The park store has a lot to offer as well.

We LOVED this park. The facilities are great! One of the best general stores of any campground we have been to. Free DVDs and just about everything you may need. There are some hills in the park so our beach cruiser bike is difficult to ride around. I feel like they should raise their rates by $10. Well worth it

Haven’t been here since I was in Highschool. (1990-1993) we had karate camp here every year. I was planning on going to lake Livingston state park but it was fully booked. In fact every state park was fully booked. Guess everyone spends thanksgiving break camping???? Anyways saw this on Google maps and I had totally forgotten it!!!!
Let me tell you!!!! Same day booking happened online (can’t do that with the state parks and national parks)
A park store was walkable distance we were able to get ice, snacks, wood (barrel of wood 🪵 for $20)
Never had to leave the park!! Highly recommend this place you haven’t been.
Park for the kids, fishing…. Can’t wait to go back with the family!

Wolf Creek park is a beautiful place. Very laid back staff. Awesome lil store in the park that has just about anything you could need on a camping trip. The back loop was very quiet. Spot 97 was perfect. It has a huge yard and your door faces the yard and you don’t have another RV next to you that your looking at. It’s very level. Only about a inch off. We highly recommend this park for family’s.

Absolutely worst experience I’ve had at a lake. Awful old woman and her creepy husband following everyone around scareaming at them when they don’t like something they do. Terrible. Trash everywhere. Kids standing around peeing in the middle of the sidewalk. Terrible terrible terrible. We will never be back. The couple “running the park” made us so uncomfortable we ended up leaving and this was the first time we went to a park since having our son. So disappointed. Will never return after being followed around by these awful creepy people. We’ve talked to other visiting the lake that said the man “who owned the park” made them so uncomfortable they were leaving. Disappointed and never returning.

This area is a jewel of beauty. It is kept up and managed with the board walk, trails and camp sites all ready for use. The trees (oak, elm, pine), shrubs (large ferns) and wildlife are a welcome sight. At the spillway enjoyed seeing a soft shelled turtle and fish in the clear water.

It's fantastic to have such a large space available to get outdoors and hike in. The Lone Star Hiking Trail is a great draw - but adding a few dry water wells (or, better yet - faucets with portable water) would be super helpful since one can hike 10 miles or more in multiple stretches and not find a reliable water source that mosquitoes won't eat you alive at while you try to get some to filter. Also, and even less expensive treat would be to add a picnic table or two every 5 miles or so

The Sam Houston National Forest was awesome. We've been to several Texas state parks and none have felt as tranquil as this park. The trails are very well maintained and facilities are decent. The RV spots are mostly level. Some sites need leveling blocks for sure. There are several first-come, first-served (FF on the website) and we got lucky this time around. Great spot for families and groups.

Good place to go for long walks in the woods (wouldn't recommend though during the summer because it gets so hot). Great museum on Sam Houston's life. Old log cabins of that time period. Steamboat House where he lived & died.

This museum took us about an hour to get through, it's small but efficient with space to illustrate the story of Sam Houston. Huntsville was the place he died hence the location - if you wonder why not his first home in Nacogdoches or the city that bears his name. It's worth a stop to learn and appreciate his contribution to Texas history.

Our family loves history, especially Texas history so this was a must stop while in Huntsville. The grounds are beautiful and very well taken care of. A great spot for taking scenic family photos. You can leisurely walk around and while you can not go into any of the buildings the door ways of the homes and cabins are solid glass so you can easily look inside. The history of the Steamboat home is particularly interesting so be sure to take the time to read about it. They have a great gift shop with lots of fun items, books, rocks, mugs, baskets and blankets. At the time of this review our boys were 16 and 9. They really enjoyed it. Its a great place to visit to learn more about and see Texas history. We plan to drive out to Independence TX soon to visit the home Mrs. Sam Houston lived in after Sam Houston passed away. We didn't have time to see the big memorial statue but if you have time, definitely add that to your list.

A must see in Huntsville. The outdoor trail area is free, while the museum does charge for admission (free for SHSU students). The museum staff outside the cabins are very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. They also dress in costume! And the duck pond is adorable. Chicken and duck feed is $1 inside the museum shop.

I have had a lot of positive experiences here and I find the grounds very enjoyable, but today I had a very negative experience with a staff member. My boyfriend and I were enjoying the upper half of the woodland home while a group beneath us was looking at the lower half. The door to the upper half closed and we figured it was just the people on the bottom floor playing around, so my boyfriend went and re-opened it. Then a staff member very rudely told us how the building was closed and she explained that to everyone downstairs. She said she checked upstairs ( she obviously didn't because we would have seen and heard her, it's a one room upstairs). She could have kindly asked us to exit the building so she could close up and she chose not to, she chose to be rude and abrasive instead. All the other staff members in the past have been so kind, I hate that this women has to represent the same workspace as them.

Wow, talk about an awesome staff! When we pulled in a lady actually walked outside just to greet us and say hello! Talk about a nice, clean, and friendly environment! Everything was well kept, walkways we're all perfect, picnic areas were immaculate, and all the information markers looked brand new. I had no idea how big the statue really was until I stood in front of it. I'm glad my Familiar suggested we should go check this place out. The little amphitheater was dope. There is this gigantic head of Sam Houston there so picture opportunities are endless lol. If you're looking for a little spot to stop and chill, maybe have a little picnic, you should for sure park your self here for a little while and check it out. Lots of info available about the area and surrounding parks along with a knowledge staff that is more than willing to help. A+ for sure!

Great place to stop with the family, and have an educational experience of Texas history. There are also picnic tables.
Exhibits on the history of Texas criminals & guards include such artifacts as a 5-barrel shotgun.
This place is dope. To learn about the history of the prison system, all the changes and advances was definitely something I needed. They have about a four minute video that you can watch before taking your tour that just tells you about the prison system and how it got started. While in there, You get to read the stories of what both inmates and staff went through. They charge for the tour but it’s definitely worth it and they have tons of memorabilia made by inmates there to purchase. If you’re driving through, definitely stop by. The staff there are so friendly and helpful. I didn’t take more pictures because there was just wayyyyyy too much stuff to photograph. It literally would’ve been 100 plus pictures.

After a couple of years of trying to get here, I finally made it and was not disappointed. It was so much more than I expected.
I never expected to see such beautiful art that prisoners make.
You can also buy their handiwork (as I’m now the owner of beautiful leather coasters now).
Nor did I expect to learn so much (and be ashamed of how little I knew).
To be honest, I never expected to see more than half of the items in there. I’m so glad someone had the foresight to keep items and document this history.
There’s so much to see and read. And, surprisingly, there’s a lot of room to grow into and for even more prison history memorabilia.
For people traveling—there is plenty of space for RVs.
For field trips—there’s also bus parking.
Pro tip—don’t ignore all the items outside.

Came here on our way back from Waco. This place is not that big but it holds a lot of real important items from a Texas prison. I loved that there were pictures of family members of victims telling their story. I saw the Texas 7 documentary and was happy to see the story of it in this museum. It was also good on a budget, I believe it was $7 a person.

As a Criminal Justice major, I absolutely enjoyed myself at the museum. Then again, I LOVE MUSEUMS lol. There is a lot of history in this place-some good and some bad. Overall, very interesting. Gift shop is cute and limited but I liked it. Again, it’s a great place to take a break from traveling and stop by and take a look around. I think you’ll actually be pleasantly surprised !
Jaye Foster — Google review
Texas history is always a favorite subject of mine, and I finally got the opportunity to visit the museum dedicated to what has become the largest agency in the state: the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The exhibits are comprehensive, spanning the entire history, good and bad, up to the modern day uniforms, equiptment, philosophy and success/failure statistics. Prisoners, wardens, victims, families, staff and celebrities all get a say. Nothing seems to be purposefully left out, and there are surprises around every corner.
Is this place worth planning a trip to? That depends on your interest in the state of criminal justice in Texas in particular, and the U.S. in general. Huntsville seems to be a prison town, with a University to boot, and it is utterly unique in my experience. Lots of good places to eat, and the normal amenities of a small city. Texas hill country is shockingly beautiful, and hunters, fishers, photographers and birders would do well to have Huntsville as their base camp. The night life is rather sedate, other than a few local musicians and those passing through.
There are a few local events and festivals to attend, but the one I now want to see the most is, sadly, discontinued:
Did you know that there was a Texas prison rodeo? I did not, until I visited the museum. It was magnificent. Rome has its Coliseum, Chicago has Soldier Field, and Texas has Huntsville.
Stop by for a visit, and until then...
Happy Trails.

Everyone should visit this museum. It's one thing to pretend that you did time in Huntsville, but it's hard to fully understand the reality when those steel bars slam shut. Speak to anyone who has been incarcerated. Imagine living in a 6 foot by 9 foot box, with someone else, no A/C in 100 degree weather. You do the crime, you do the time. But what if it was your family member or loved one, you do the time emotionally as well. I give respect to the correctional officers because they work in mostly the same conditions as the offenders. The only difference is they get to go home every day. Let this museum be a reminder to enjoy our freedom and live a good life, so that freedom isn't stripped away!

This museum is very interesting and informative. I learned so much about the Texas prison system, including that there used to be a prison rodeo program. Seeing the electric chair was a unique and emotional experience as well. The museum really made me think about my perspectives on the prison system and criminal justice. A small museum with rich items related to prison and an interesting period in the American history. It also show the cruel nature of the prison life and how dangerous it is to be in one or if you actually work in one. Appreciate living in a safe neighborhood if you are luck to have one.

This was a great museum. It’s not huge but you will spend a lot of time there due to the amount of material to read. You get an inside look on the Texas penal system past and present. It’s not as interactive as some museums I’ve been to, but I found the rather quiet atmosphere to be peaceful and positive. You are able to really take your time here and read about prison life and the history. This was an extremely informative experience.

End of March this place is stunning! Prairie Branch trail and Dogwood trail are green and beautiful. Alligators are keeping to themselves. Mosquitoes are few and far between. And the weather is perfection! Great place to sleep with your windows open to hear the birds singing. Park officials patrol the grounds often. Dogs are very welcome!

Very fun state park! The nature trails were beautiful though a bit confusing to follow at times. I feel the signs should be updated a bit.
The fire pit and dining tables at the campsite was really well set however and the bathrooms were relatively clean with private showers at a good temperature and good water pressure. They also didn't have too much of a bug/raccoon problem.
The place is very family friendly and alcohol is prohibited.
I think it's a fun family place to visit, but if you want to get a bit loud or blast tunes, I'd choose a different spot because the campsites were pretty full and there are rangers constantly monitoring.

We enjoyed the hiking trails and watching the alligators and sunrise by the lake while camping. Lots of people brought their dogs to the campground which was nice, unfortunately we didn't bring ours this time.

Just returned from a delightful day at the state park. The trails were in top condition, marked by clear signs and dotted with charming mini bridges—a thoughtful touch to navigate the post-rain terrain. A few detours added to the adventure, leading us to a breathtaking swamp vista where anglers found their haven and RVs nestled in nature. It was the perfect blend of exploration and relaxation. Highly recommend for an outdoor escape!

We went there to camp and it was beautiful. Restrooms were clean, and rangers clean the ways daily. We got our spot and fire ring clean as well. The only issue we have had was trail maps. We wanted to go for hiking around 1 hour and were looking the map in the beginning of the trail. However, at some points, maps do not show the directions clearly, especially the one says " You are here" on intersection points. Otherwise, I love Huntsville and Huntsville State Park.

Nice park. We camped 2 nights near the lake. Good scenery, trails, and camp store. Our site's water spigot broke and we were able to find someone to fix it quickly. Only complaints are that the bathrooms didn't get cleaned all weekend, so they got very dirty. The self service kayak rental was not working, but we called the help number and they got it fixed remotely.

Awesome experience, from camping to canoeing to fishing and hiking this park has it all.
Alligators in water are real peaceful won’t mess with you as long as you don’t mess with them.
But overall this is a perfect park for friends and family to gather, grill fish and have a great time. I spent about 15$ for my family to come in and be there all day. Not bad at all !!

We really enjoy camping at this park during the cooler weather. It’s well maintained. Nice hike paths around to explore. There’s a park store with basic necessities and wood for sale .
So peaceful and quiet by 10 pm.

Beautiful place for the family to explore the outdoors. There’s a strong presence of rangers throughout the park enforcing no loud music, no alcohol, no recreational vehicles, pets on leashes at all times and a true respect to Texan natural resources & wildlife.

Came hiking here the day after new years with my 6yo for his first ever hike. The trails were nice and easy for beginners, and the old school playground was nice and still going strong after I’d guess at least 30 years since it was built. My only complaint was since we went on a Tuesday apparently they don’t sell travel patches/pins/hiking medallions in the park entrance office, only the gift shop over by the beach, but because it was a weekday, no one was working the gift shop, so we weren’t able to get the souvenirs we’d planned on to commemorate our goal of hitting as many state parks as possible this year. In the future, they should make sure to sell more souvenirs in the entry shop if they don’t have enough staff to run the gift shop all week.

The park was great. Beautiful park conveniently located close to Houston. Camp site 108 had a spring of water running directly through it which made the experience really wet. It was no fun. Was not able to make a camp fire . Everything was muddy . Restrooms were nice and clean.

Huntsville State Park was a close pleasant get away. It was a cold, windy weekend when we went, but staying on the raven loop was a pleasure. The host, Bullet, was friendly and helpful to everyone in the loop, as he not only helped me, but was seen helping many others. Visiting this park when the weather is better will be in our future to enjoy the trails and water.

My visit to Huntsville Park was truly remarkable. This sprawling park offers a vast expanse of greenery and recreational opportunities that are sure to delight visitors of all ages. One of the standout features is the sheer spaciousness of the park, which allows for plenty of room to spread out and enjoy your day.
The variety of activities available is impressive. You can engage in sports like soccer, basketball, or frisbee on well-maintained courts and fields. For those who prefer a leisurely experience, the clean and nicely paved trails winding through the park provide a perfect backdrop for a stroll or an invigorating hike. The well-marked paths make it easy to explore nature at your own pace.
What truly sets Huntsville Park apart is the attention to cleanliness and maintenance. The park is consistently spotless, and the trails are meticulously cared for. This attention to detail enhances the overall experience and makes it a pleasure to visit time and time again.
Additionally, the park's amenities like picnic areas and shaded spots under the trees offer a great place to relax and unwind. Whether you're looking for an active day of play or a peaceful escape into nature, Huntsville Park has something for everyone.
I highly recommend a visit to this park, as it's an exceptional destination for outdoor enthusiasts, families, and anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of nature in a clean, well-maintained environment. It's a gem in the heart of Huntsville that should not be missed.

We stayed 4 nights at this Beautiful Park in the Prairie Branch section. The Lake was Gorgeous! Huge trees providing tons of shade with great walking/biking trails. All the roads and camp pads appeared to have fairly fresh pavement. Uncovered park benches and fire pits were available for all. No septic hook ups that I saw but a convenient dump station was around the corner. 30/50 amp plug-ins with water were abundant. The Park Hosts were all friendly and helpful. Restrooms with showers were clean and maintained. Small playground with slide and swings for the kids. No gator sightings in December but squirrels EVERYWHERE kept us entertained. It was really quiet and peaceful during the weekdays and even though the weekend brought lots of new campers and visitors, it was still very peaceful. Be Sure to research the size of your campsite before booking!! We picked a 63' back in site (148) and it was perfect for our 33' and 2500 truck. Many sites are Small and Very uneven so look at pics and read as much as possible when planning a trip. Anything over 35'... You're going to struggle parking in 80% of the sites IMO.

One of the nicest parks in this part of Texas! Very spread out and many clean shared facilities, hot showers. The big pines offer a sweet reprieve from the hot Texas sun. Paddle boating and fishing. Lots of sun perch. We love it here.

Fantastic park located less than an hour's drive away from Houston.
I got the chance to visit this beautiful place in late February and it was such a joy. The weather was perfect and the park was an excellent place to spend an afternoon. The grounds were clean, quiet and well kept. Definitely a must visit if you enjoy spending time in nature.
I hope I get to go there again sometime!
Fun-park offering old-fashioned attractions such as swings, putt putt, a petting zoo & pony rides.
I had as much fun as my kids did. This place was AMAZING and such a great place for pictures! We got a 6 pack admission deal off of Groupon and it included animal feed, and drinks. The baby goats were honestly the best part. We will be going back again and again, and bringing family and friends along too. You can also book events there!

Visited here on Easter weekend (entry was free). This is was our first time and it was a fun experience having a photo op with the Easter bunny (paid), face painting (paid), petting zoo (free)and lots more. My kiddo had a ton of fun
The ticket counter was extremely slow and could be faster

I've been here a few times over the past 11 years, and my kids and I still love it! From the petting zoo, to the zip line, to the playground, giant sand box, and huge games (checkers, chess, jinga, and connect 4) They even have a cute mini golf course. Prices are very reasonable, honestly cheaper than you would expect nowadays. Not only on entry but for food and drinks as well. Definitely a great place to take the kids for some outdoor fun.

A lot of activities for all ages, animals are extremely gentle while feeding my 13mon old loved it. prices are fair no outside food allowed but you are welcome to sit outside the gate for a picnic and go back in. ❤️ Some activities with animals might be off due to extreme 🥵 temperatures.

We visited on a cold wet Saturday and still had a blast! My kids are 7 and 8 and a fantastic age to enjoy 7 Acre Wood. We warmed up with hot chocolate, fed the very sweet animals and played on the playground, zip line, mini golf and more for four hours. The staff were sweet and helpful and made us some decent lunch. $4.50 for a kids sandwich, chips, brownie and juice box. Thank you! Picnic tables are just outside the entrance if you prefer but you can't take your own food in. Parking is close and very convenient.
I would highly recommend 7 Acre Wood on a warm day (not much shade in the summer) and with kids around 10 and under. Goats can get lively so watch your little ones fingers! You'll get a fun day out that won't break the bank (pony rides are $5 inc tax, feed cones are around a dollar and feed bags $5 each). Your kids will be talking about the goats, sheep, Llama, donkeys, deer, highland cow, ponies and guinea fowl for weeks.

Great birthday venue area. Priced right. Kids ran all day long. So much to do as a group or gathering and very safe. Very helpful staff. Feeding the animals was a hoot! Zip line is for littler ones which was perfect for us. The adults stayed and had a great time as well.
Just one favor to ask of the owners. Please trim the ponies hooves. Long over due for a farrier.

Very cute little farm, took my toddler one evening last week and it was completely empty. There were so many things to do here. Lots of playscapes for different age groups, cute concession stand, and of course the adorable animals! We had the whole place to ourselves. There are a bunch of flies, but that's to be expected at a farm. I'd suggest going when it's not too hot outside, Texas is heat is intense.

Great place to spend a day with family!
We took our kids and they had a blast, and so did my wife and I. There are plenty of things to do which makes it a place to spend the whole day. The petting zoo was splendid, lots of animals, great variety, and well taken care of . My oldest went on a fun pony ride, and my youngest had the time if his life playing in a sand pit full of obstacles and adventures. There is also a small mini golf course which is nice. And then fields to play any sport you'd want. Highly recommend this place if your looking for somewhere to spend a day with family.

Needs some updating. Like where are all of the scooters for the track? Or the tricles for that track? Could not find ping pong balls. Sand castle sets were spread out it seemed all over the park. The hand puppets need to be disinfected. But reasonably priced admission and concession. 🤷♂️🤷♂️

Oh my gosh! Took my niece her for spring break. She loved it. For $15, she was able to do everything, feed the animals, ride the train, take a pony ride, putt putt golf, and play for hours. We had lunch there as well, plenty on the menu and the covered area to eat at was really nice. There are tons of photo opportunity areas as well. Definitely a place to go for the kids.
Historic performing arts center & former Vaudeville stage now hosting several theater companies.
Beautiful interior, there is no bad seat in this Texas vintage theatre. Enjoyed the show as well. (Drowsy Chaperone) Good strong production values featuring expert direction, well lit, simple sets and appropriate costuming that enhanced the performances. Love of live theatre flowed from the cast to audience and back throughout the show. Support your local live theatre!

I was at the Buddy Holly Show Friday night! The kid playing Buddy Holly was fabulous! There is some amazing talent in the show! However the girl dancers are terrible! Their moves do not match the time period, it’s too drill teams and takes away from the production!! Also the lead dancer(I think that is who she was) had her pink costume on under the other one and it stuck out not matching and looked terrible! Hopefully they can fine tune the dancing for the rest of the shows!!

This was the second show I have seen in this space. This time we sat someplace different. The architecture is amazing. The Decour is amazing. The space is amazing. It is so well kept up. Conroe should be super proud of the space they have created downtown. Of which the Crighton is a cornerstone of that.

Nice theater in downtown Conroe, comfortable seating, good climate control, decent acoustics. They seem to have a mix of well known and less well known plays. Go early and there are quite a few interesting shops and other places surrounding the theater, including a micro brewery, pubs, knick knack shops, and more. Parking can look full but just go another block or two or maybe 3 and on-street parking (not parallel) was easy to find. Well worth the cost of admission.

My wife and I attended this beautiful venue for the World Primer opening of screenwriter Ritchey Cable's "The Author Movie" staring Cameron Stout and Ashton Brooke Gill on September 27th. We had a wonderful experience on board the Southern Empress Cruise at Lake Conroe on the New Year’s Eve day. The ambiance & atmosphere over the 2.5 hour cruise was great & enjoyable. It was a perfect weather & clear sky, which made the ride even more enjoyable. The only thing which we hope improves was that there were no options for vegetarians on the dinner menu. We would certainly recommend our friends to this interesting experience…

I booked the Southern Empress Cruise as a Mothers Day Eve event for my Mom and Dad. On Mothers Day, mom made sure to let all of our family know about how much fun she had on the cruise across lake Conroe on this gorgeous paddle boat. Every thing from the menu, the amazing service and crewmen, the dancing and as she said the American Idol worthy Karaoke!! So very thankful to everyone aboard who help elevate this special day for her!

My husband and I booked the dinner cruise for our Anniversary and we were very pleased with the whole experience. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the deck area where patrons were boarding were warped and in really poor shape and could be a hazard for some. The boat was also dated and could use renovations, but the age of the boat and and the dated decor gave it a lot of character. It was like stepping back in time upon boarding. We enjoyed dinner very much and the wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There was only one bartender on duty that night and she did a fantastic job. The sunset is absolutely gorgeous from the boat and it was a unique experience all around. I highly recommend.

I was exiting towards the deck making the attempt to bring in the new year and I was stopped by a employee named Terry attempting to take away my wine glass. The reason was because she needed to make sure there was vine left for all the guest.
Well as the new year came in I approached the inside and I found plenty more left over.
I will never return here again.NOT RECOMMENDED

I rented the semi-private beer garden spot for our friends and family to gather the night before our daughters wedding. It held all 50 of us with room to spare. We chose to go with the Pizza that they make on hand which were delicious. The White Pizza was suggested by a staff member and it was amazing. Lainey and her staff did a fantastic job of taking care of us along with the friendly young man (I cannot remember his name) that helped us with 17 pizzas through the evening. Everyone also enjoyed trying the craft beers. I really enjoyed the sour one.

The food was not that great. They changed the pretzel; it's smaller, dry, and flavorless. The sauce for the pretzel was watery and the pizza we ordered was terribly greasy. I hope you plan to improve the food quality and selection in the future.
