Beautiful, clean and easy access. excellent recreation area. Boat docks, and off shore fishing. Caught a walleye, several good size perch, and a 2lb rainbow trout.

We stayed at the Red Lodge arm campground (R14). While it's pretty wide open, and the latter camp grounds don't really have water access... it's very clean/fun for the family. Water access is just a short walk away.
Jon Verbeck — Google review
Clean facilties and restroom. Reservoir was nice. One recommendation is that there needs to be more signage to and from. We made a wrong turn at a dirt road and didn't know it and went the wrong direction. Maps on the phone couldn't save us as there was no reception out there.
Tanya A — Google review
This is an out of the way reservoir (maintained dirt roads). There are a lot of fishing and water super sport options. There are a variety of camp sites. The camp sites are mostly in the full sun. Our camp host let us know that there are generally strong winds each night. Thankfully we didn't experience any while we were camped there. The vault toilets were very clean and the camp sites were very clean. There are showers located in the campground closest to the dam. You need quarters for the shower currently as the change machine is out of order.
Jean Robinson — Google review
Very well maintained. More camping spots than any FWP camping area, per size than I've seen. Play ground for the kiddos. Fire pits in every spot. Pretty busy spot in the summer. South Shore is usually thick with mosquitos in the summer and usually fairly windy, all the time. Bring sunscreen!!
joey scott — Google review
Advertised flush and vault toilets but only has vault. Not much shade, neighboring cows mooing all night. However: the staff is attentive and friendly, the campsites are big so you’re not listening to whispers in the next tent, and there’s a modern playground for the kiddos. Unfortunately the reservoir was down a BUNCH when we visited so the “beach” was just mud, but that’s not the State Park’s fault.

We had a blast here!
I recommend everyone stay home and never go here. Drowning, boat wreck, sunburn, and dangerous fish bites on your toes are all really scary things that could happen.
Besides the roads to this place are horrible.
Seriously, stay home or find another lake.
A friend and I went on a four night horseback riding/camping trip. The entire experience was amazing. Jeremy went above and beyond to make sure we had a great trip.

After moving to Joliet over 2 years ago, I finally decided to venture out for the evening. My best friend and I went in to the J Bar for food and drinks. Bonnie and Gary were very welcoming and so much fun to visit with! Bonnie poured a perfect cocktail. Gary cooked us some of the BEST burgers I’ve ever had! They were enormous and juicy with plenty of cheese and fresh toppings. I was beyond pleased with their fair prices as well. I’d definitely recommend making a stop in to the J Bar!😁

Awesome burgers, cold beer & awesome old school bartender
Family-friendly locale for skiing & snowboarding, with 65 trails & slopes, plus kids' programs.
5 stars for best snow in the lower 48, and for Travel Trailer and RV parking at the mountain lower lot...free just look for the "camping between signs" row on the side of the lot. Cleanest ski hill porto potties so far after 3 states and 5 resorts. If I were picky I'd Take off a star for the main lodge lifts being slow fixies and for holding Palisades chair from opening Until a holiday weekend on a Saturday even though...it was probably ready after it snowed last week...but at least this year the lifts seem to be spinning without breaking! ...don't go to Big Sky.
Mark Leffingwell — Google review
Very under-the-radar hill with a local feel, yet still skis like a major western resort. The cafeteria should be avoided at all costs, but the rest of the experience was amazing.
Andrew Bayley — Google review
Super pricey for adult lift tickets. Even if you purchase in advance online. Rentals are reasonable. I struggled with faulty gear on my last visit. I didn't realize that my bindings were loose until we were on top of the mountain. The staff were friendly and quick to assist. The snow is great usually. My daughter and I love the long runs. We are both amateur snowboarders and are on the same skill level, so those long rides are essential for solid experience. Safe learning environment. It tends to be crowded on the weekends, but the lines for the lifts are short.
Jesse Ballard — Google review
Learning area is very small compared to others in MT. Boys enjoyed it nonetheless.
I prefer Bridger Bowl. Cheaper, more runs already open, more/better snow, more mountain to explore. Did I mention cheaper!?

Absolutely love this place, from incredible terrain to wonderful friendly staff, truly unbeatable.

We love this place! The prices are reasonable, so it makes it a great family destination . The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and very welcoming. We like to ski for 2-3 days every time we go. We are a family of four with a 7yo and 4yo.

Red Lodge Mountain is a great place to ski & snowboard. I've been going there for years. This trip was a little rough due to the snow conditions and weather, but I still had a blast. If they replace that slow triple chair with a high speed quad, I'd give them 5 stars!
Casey Jensen — Google review
Spent three days here in the spring. I had a great time. Triple chair needs to be upgraded to a high speed, but the rest of the mountain is quiet. Palisades and Cole Creek are awesome!
Luke Jaraczeski — Google review
Great trail to hike- saw lots of others and NO wild animals.
Tammy Osborne — Google review
Had a good time for the first time in years, though snow was low, it was still exciting. HOWEVER,
NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY 94$ to eat their food in the cold because you guys sell $15 cheese burgers.
I can say because of that alone and just how much it’s raised and how little accommodations you have now I DEFINITELY won’t be back. There’s other places in Montana for cheaper and better accommodation. Hopefully you take this to heart and try to fix your system.
Michael Barth — Google review
Fun spot to hit, snow cover tends to be thin but has some cool terrain if it's not skiied out and/or sun-baked. Pretty low-key and laid back; while other mountains have gotten big and are turning into full blown resorts, this one still has the old school ski mountain vibe. And still cheaper than most places these days. The central lift could really use an upgrade to something high-speed, though; that's my only real gripe. Plenty here to enjoy and explore.
Devon Waldron — Google review
I’ve been to 4 mountains in Montana and 2 in utah and wyoming… Never have I ever seen a mountain maintained so badly. all the park workers and rental workers are super rude and the customer service is literally non existent at this mountain. took my friends for the first time and the rental guy was getting pissed because we were renting and he wanted me to buy the $70 lift ticket before renting to give him “less work” When we only planned on hitting the magic carpet. I really hope something can be done because most of the employees on this mountain look like they don’t wanna be here themselves so maybe they shouldn’t be because there ruining peoples experiences… it embarrasses me that’s this is the treatment beginner riders get on your slope
Logan Dillon — Google review
We had an awesome few days here. Great snow, great lifts and top notch staff. The chalet food was actually good as well. Hope to be back again next season.
Steve A — Google review
Great place to ski with the family. We recently spent a spring break here as a family and couldn’t be happier. Here’s what we liked: 1. Reasonable prices on lift tickets and lessons. 2. Plenty of terrain for everyone - I liked the long blue groomers that make your quads burn like Lazy M or Palisades. My kids liked Miami Beach and the greens around the lodge. And there’s plenty of more advanced terrain if that’s what you’re looking for. 3. No lift lines - we skied all week and probably spent a total of 10 minutes in-line between the four of us. 4. Spectacular scenery - if you’re looking for Mountain View’s Red Lodge does not disappoint. 5. Super chill vibe - all the skiing, none of the pretense.
Quincy Long — Google review
On December 2nd I witnessed a gross breakdown of class, character, communication and transparency on Red Lodge Mountain. It was our first day of the season and what should be a great first day up on the local hill was anything but. We went to get my Girlfriend her new pass for the season. As has been the case for years you receive a new pass at the beginning of the season. We thought nothing of the fact that we could not find last years pass and went to the ticket counter where we were informed that it was a $20 fee to reprint a pass. The woman who spoke to us was curt and when we asked for clarification was quick to call her supervisor, Denise. As we were standing outside waiting on Denise to make it over to the side door of the ticket counter, I overheard the first woman complain to Denise that this "girl over here is complaining about spending $20". The tone and the interaction indicated to me that your staff cares less about being professional and remembering that they are in customer service and are in fact more interested in being rude and petty.
Denise deployed what can best be described as her best fake nice expression and told us we must pay the $20 for a reprint even though no new pass had been issued for the season. This was explained to be a "greener" option yet you print lost passes on the same plastic for $5. Someone could come everyday reprinting for $5 and have dozens of plastic cards made. We were told that it says emphatically that you must reuse your pass from previous seasons yet no such writing was presented or shown to be the case. We then asked to speak to her manager or someone else and we were told that a "Jeff" was in charge but he wouldn't want to talk to us, was too busy and had left for the day around 1PM. We were given a card we were told was his without any of his information and was in fact just a general card for the mountain. She lied to us telling us that she had given us your card with your information but gave us a blank card and would not tell us your full name. She then said we could send her an email and she would pass it along. Denise was rude, her repeated dismissal of our issue and her attempt to give us the runaround and no information, yet claim she had, was incredibly poor service. Denise pulled out the one sheeter with your policies on it and lo and behold the "it says right here you have to keep your pass for each season" never materialized and unless it has been amended does not exist. At this point I started recording her because of how rude she was being and I have her on video admit to and apologize for being rude. We eventually got her to bring us to your brand new guest services manager Taylor ( I believe that was his name). We shared the same story with him and he shared that he had to pay the same fee when his wife lost her pass. Again he reinforced that this was something that was known and was in the agreement that is signed for your season pass. When we asked him to show that to us he had to admit that it does not say that in the printed rules or agreement. He was very nice and printed, for the first time this season, her pass.
We are lifelong Montanans. This is not how customer service should work in the small town of Red Lodge at our local mountain. I understand that Customer Service takes a cool head and skill. The mountain was not busy that day, you haven't been busy at all this season so your pass holders are even more important when the snow isn't dumping. To see this person be your front facing staff leader interacting with your guests is appalling. As we stated multiple times this isn't an issue with spending $20, this is about your poorly written policy and your attempts to enforce it. Simply, Denise never apologized for her behavior and she put Taylor in a bad situation trying to fix it.
I would encourage you to cull the attitudes festering in your customer service before they spread to the rest of your team.

So good! Every bit as good-maybe better- as a high end steak house for reasonable prices and a casual, family friendly atmosphere. Worth the drive for sure! Real mashed potatoes, and a chef who understands what “rare” means. I had the carrot cake for dessert-
homemade and it tasted like it. Can’t wait to come back!

What an incredible find! The service and food here could exceed even the best in Billings or the whole state. Make sure you make a reservation because it's not a hidden gem even though it's off the beaten path. The menu is large and highlights local beef. The prawn additions are epic. The only dig one might have would be the mediocre dinner salad or odd combination of high top and regular tables. Those are overcome once you're full and unable to push back from the table.

Don't let the outside fool you! Awesome good, big servings, come hungry! Excellent service, highly recommend the trip. Had the firecracker shrimp it was excellent, along with prime rib, and some giant prawns! Overall just an awesome small town place that once you go, you will keep going back.

We shared a 20 oz rib eye and was it ever good! Too big but cooked to perfection. Crisp green salad, loaf of bread and fresh green beans. On top of that, the servers were funny and delightful. It’s not close to anything but worth the drive. Others must agree because the restaurant was jammed! A definite 10!

Toughest sirloin and NY Strip ever! Very disappointing. We ordered the New York strip and the sirloin with both steaks cooked medium rare, but they were so tough it was difficult to cut. Little seasoning and didn't appear marinated. We were starving and felt if we sent it back we would be waiting a long time for the replacement. Since both steaks were tough as nails I doubt a new one would have been any better, but we didn't want to wait. The Oswald family farm has some tough grass that's been fed to their cows. Bring a very sharp knife and possibly a spoon because I don't believe there was one in the restaurant.

One of the best meals I've had in a long time!! I got the "Steak Fingers" which is steak that's lightly battered and fried! It was amazing!! It first tastes like fried chicken, but then the steak deliciousness hits and is something else! Tasted better without putting sauce on! Thank you chef, yummm.

The steak was over cooked. The 7 dollar a piece shrimp were extremely chewy/overdone. You can get a much better meal and cooked correctly at home. The service was good which is why I gave 2 stars. Maybe they have a new cook?

Out in the middle of seemingly nowhere this place is amazing and worth the drive. If you hear great things about this place believe the hype! Great food, service, and atmosphere. Do not let the old rustic brick building outside deter you! Loved it and hope to go back! (The shrimp pawns are huge along with the portions!)

I would have never stopped here on my own because it looks like a simple drive bar, but local friends brought us for dinner. Dinner was simply outstanding! We had Shelby and her infectious smile taking care of a table of almost 20 and she managed everything without a hitch while still taking care of other tables. The steaks were phenomenal and despite thinking I would take home leftovers I ate the entire 30 oz porterhouse while my wife did serious damage to the baseball cut sirloin with crab. She did say she liked mine better though.
You can't go wrong even with a 30 minutes drive to the bar like we had.

I've gone to this bar for take-out food and prior to my last visit, I had AWESOME food. My last visit on 2/17/2023 was unimpressive. The tater tots were burnt, my chicken fried steak was burnt, the meatballs on the spaghetti were burnt...I spent $141 for primarily burnt food. I've found other restaurants with amazing food that is cooked to perfection and a lot less cost. I will say on a positive note, the service was great!
Pat Ferris — Google review
The food here is baller! Steaks are excellent, sandwiches are great, and everything else is solid. Nice seasonal cocktail menu as well. Have been a couple times now and it's worth the trip from Billings if you want a great steak dinner. Waitresses are very knowledgeable and can handle customers who've experienced the inevitable long wait unless you've made a reservation. Don't expect fancy steakhouse atmosphere tho, very small dining hall, non-existent waiting area.
This Sanctuary was one of the coolest places my husband and I visited while traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday. The animals are obviously very happy and very well cared for. Despite the time of year, we saw many active animals and got some great pictures! The staff obviously love what they do and were so kind and friendly as well. We will definitely pay a visit again in the future!

I'm not sure if we came on a bad day or off season, but a lot of the things we were looking forward to seeing were closed. With a big name like Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary, I was expecting a bit more. Cages were small, and several animals were showing repetitive behaviors/stress. The acreage there for the number of animals is just off.. It made me feel like it belonged an episode of the Tiger King, and I left feeling sad/dissatisfied instead of educated. I understand they are doing a necessary thing and likely have limited funding which is why I left three stars, but as someone who has visited these types of places across the country I can't recommend this one.

YWS is a fantastic place that has an admirable mission. Good people doing great things for in-need animals.

Very nice that they’re trying to care for these animals but not a great place to visit. Pretty expensive admission fee for what it is. They keep the animals in enclosures that are too small for their size and activity level… not the best. Overall, disappointing.

Highly recommend the private tour! 5 stars
The staff were able to accommodate our family group of 9 the week after Christmas, even with last minute changes due to our icy roads.
Our guide, Jess, was terrific - knowledgeable, passionate, and infinitely patient with all of our questions.
It was evident how committed all of the staff are - truly looking forward to another visit during warmer weather to see more of their residents.

We did a private tour this month (Jan) since they are closed for the winter. It was super affordable and so educational! We had a tour guide the entire time and spent time getting to know each animals story, and how they fit into the Yellowstone ecosystem. These animals all have a story of why they cannot be released back into the wild and they are so well cared for at this sanctuary. I highly recommend a winter tour if you are in Red Lodge!

We happened to be in the raptor area when the keeper came out to feed them, and she was so kind and knowledgeable and she told us about each bird as she fed them. It was so much fun. I will definitely be returning to see all the animals again!

We highly recommend doing the private tour. Our guide Savannah was very knowledgeable, shared the stories of each of the animals we saw, explained the ecosystems and their importance. It was very obvious that she loved the animals and took great pride in the mission of the sanctuary. Thank you for providing a way for these amazing creatures to live out their lives safely and for a wonderful experience!

The Manager was friendly & professional.

This non-profit gallery is my favorite gallery anywhere. They always have a large selection of western mountain art from their artist members. Oils, acrylics, watercolors, photographs, sculptures and even motion sculptures; most at very reasonable prices. They also have educational programs for both adults and children.
They have more art than they can display, so some art is stored in closets. If you like watercolor mountain landscapes, be sure to ask what Mary Blain pieces they have.
We are from Minnesota, but my wife and I try to visit this gallery every time we're in MT.

The Carbon County Historical Society & Museum has exhibits on the history of Carbon County, with a focus on mining and industry. The basement is especially well-done, with realistic displays of old mining equipment. The museum is laid out well and has plenty of highlights to see, making it a great place to visit if you're in the area.
Went last summer. I absolutely loved this museum! Downstairs was simply breathtaking. They have a mine exhibit that made me feel like I was actually underground. It also made me think of Gorge Orwells description of a mine in Road to Wigan Pier. Witch lead to a fantastic conversation with the lady who was working. She was well informed, helpful and polite. All around it was an amazing visit. The gun collection is also wonderful. I hope to make it back at some point.

Unfriendly staff.. we walked in with our masks on.. we're not big on wearing them but don't mind putting them on for places that require to do so. the guy working there did not have a mask on so we asked if we need to have ours on? He was very angry and rude with his reply to the point we just said "ok.. we'll see you later " and turned around and walked out.. he then followed us outside and started to yell at us while we were on the side walk...
This was such a beautiful hike, but unfortunately, the main entrance to this is closed due to the bridge being out..
When you turn onto the main road that takes you there, the first bridge you drive over there is a road to your left, take that and there is spots to the right to park and that leafs you into the lower trail of lake fork! Hope this helps people out 2023

Great trail to take your horse. There's a bridge and water crossings, perfect for teaching good manners. Beautiful views, the trail does get rocky a few miles past Broadwater Lake but before Lost Lake.
Sherri Yoder — Google review
Trust the signs and local guides. The bridge at the "usual" trailhead was washed out by the flooding. If you drive in that far you should expect to hike the north side of Lake Fork Rock Creek. Otherwise, use the new parking area near the highway (before the Lions Camp bridge). The Lake Fork trail is popular for a reason. Great views, beautiful forest, and some occasional wildlife (be Bear Prepared!).

LAKE FORK TRAILHEAD to
BLACK CANYON LAKE- Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Northern Absaroka Range, Montana
Trailhead Elevation- 7,200ft
Black Canyon Lake
Approx Elevation- 9,144 Ft
This hike offers beautiful waterfalls, gorgeous scenery, abundant wildlife (We spotted a Moose Cow and Calf), and pristine mountain lakes. Including Lost Lake and Black Canyon Lake, an incredible turquoise glacial lake. The hike to the lake turns away many hikers due to the faint trail, incredibly deep snow (Still 15 ft drifts in some places as of June 24, 2017) and you must also cross a large boulder field.

Easy to find, large parking area. Didn't hike the whole trail but it was scenic, pretty easy trail about over a mile in. Not to mention the eerie similarity of a rock on the trail to the face on mars.

Great hike just south of Red Lodge. Road isn't plowed in the winter so you may have trouble getting in if there is a bunch of snow but otherwise this is a fabulous hike. The giant face in the rock is just a few steps past the Wilderness sign. So cool. He was hibernating when we saw him.

My spouse and I reside in Minnesota and while exploring the Red Lodge area, we came across Back Alley Metals, a store with remarkable merchandise. During our visit, we conversed with the proprietor and found everything in the shop to be exceptionally beautiful. As we were renovating our house's upper level, we required a staircase railing and handrail that matched. Once back home, we communicated via email and phone to provide measurements for a custom wrought iron stair railing and matching handrail.
Back Alley Metals is a regular stop on our visits through Red Lodge. They are hospitable, friendly, they create unique metal art. We always bring back a gift for ourselves or friends from here. This posting is late from our actual visit from summer of 2020 but I was mounting a couple of their pieces to show off and wanted to share. Thanks for being there. Hope to see you again this year. Both are childhood memories one 45 years and the later 15 years old. Good looking shoes!

Visited the shop on a visit and liked the work. Talked about a custom piece. Came home sent drawings via email. Took some time, but finally got a response with a proposed drawing. Returned the email with a couple of questions. Never got a response. Sent another email and left three phone messages. No response. My wife finally called and they said they would respond
Haven't heard from them since. Like their work, but getting a custom piece seems like a lost cause..

My husband and I live in MN and were visiting the Red Lodge area one day checking out the unique shops. We stopped in at Back Alley Metals and talked with the owner. Everything we saw in the store was absolutely gorgeous. At the time, we were remodeling the upper level of our home and still needed a stair railing and matching hand rail. When we got back to MN, via a few emails and calls I gave all measurements and had a custom wrought iron stair railing and matching hand rail made for our home. We were thrilled with the results once it arrived and we absolutely LOVE the pieces built for us and they were also incredibly affordable! We are so lucky to have these guys in town. We built a new restaurant in town this year and anything and everything we needed they were able to build. If you need something custom you should go here first. If you're looking for a gate, benches, signs, fencing, whatever, go here first. Great prices, great work.

Beautiful overlook along the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway. One of our favorite stretches of highway in the area for motorcycle rides. Very fun corners and awesome views headed either direction.

So much for the eye to take in; out ahead and below! Colors on the mountains, hills, curvy roads, trees, rocks and sky— they all dance in correlation to the mood of the sky; sun, clouds and moon light at night

Great view!! Animals just come to you. But people please keep your god dam trash either in your car or in the buckets that literally standing next to you! You really don’t need to show off how far you can throw your empty beer soda and Red Bull cans into the canyon.

Beautiful historic site on the Nez Perce fight and Flight of survival from extermination. Such beautiful country full of so much history.
Timothy Temple (Tim) — Google review
Besides gorgeous views, there is an interesting and sad story behind this place. In 1877, 700 Nez Perce Indians with two thousand horses escaped from 200 American soldiers pursuing them, avoided at the same time an ambush on the pass, set by another army detachment, and broke into the Great Plains. A month later the Indians would still be killed at the Battle of the Bear Paw:((((, but here they did manage to fool the American troops.

An hour from Cody. Arrive early to feed chipmunks and watch the sun come up over the breathtaking mountains. Great place to stop on the way to the North Yellowstone entrance.

Amazing lookout over mountain ranges. There are plaques that explain where the Nez Perce tribe ran from the soldiers. There are 2 restrooms also. Highway 296 (Chief Jones Highway) is an amazing and beautiful drive to get from the East entrance to the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone and to Beartooth Pass.

Stunning views! A must see. Public restrooms. Friendly ground squirrels (take non salted nuts/seeds to feed). 8k feet above sea level (drink water to avoid elevation sickness).
We did the 1 hour horseback ride today with myself, my husband, and kids - 6 and 9. We had the most amazing time. The guides were amazing and very knowledgeable and my kids had an awesome experience. Highly recommend! Perfect ride into real Wyoming!

We stayed at Rand Creek Ranch for 3 days. Great place and great people. Joel and Crystal are very down to earth and wholesome folks. We already miss them. We also did an all day trail ride with Joel. Jasper and Stetson were our horses and they were awesome. Joel was very easy to talk to and very knowledgeable of the area. We also saw a bull moose on our ride. Best trail ride ever. We will return soon!

NO AC. Slow < 1 Mbps wifi up and down. No ice. Half bars on ATT (no 4/5g at time of review) (KEEP READING......this is not meant to deter you). Just wanted that up front and center so everyone sees this before I start the review. Can be a deal breaker for many in this modern world. I about **** when I arrived in 90+ degree weather and there was no AC :). They do provide fans, and it cools down immensely at night. Great location. (Close to Yellowstone) Great views. Stables and trail rides. (1 hour and 2 hour). 2 hour goes a bit higher elevation through foot hills, etc with better views. Fishing, fire pit, BBQ. Morning breakfast basket with baked goods and OJ. Very clean. Incredible hospitality. Larger sized mini fridge. Small microwave. No cooking (forbidden) in cabins other than heating stuff in microwave. If you look at the price vs the accomodations it seems pricey. However, you are paying for the ambiance, location, amenities, and the overall experience. No question at all you should choose this experience over the higher priced hotel/motel options in Cody. It is a family owned business. If you value the American individual entrepreneur, this is the place to patronize. Very cool experience.

Take a trail ride up one of the most amazing views of the Wall in Wapiti.
Our trail guide was on point in making sure that everyone was comfortable, even the guy that almost dumped himself and Deets into the first creek crossing...wont mention any names as to who that was (cough "me"), made sure 1st time riders (again caugh..me) were well but quickly and strictly educated on the dos and donts of riding. She also educated us on the landscape and history of the terrain.
Affordable, hospitable, and on point with everything.

Such a professional staff at the ranch, well mannered horses and an exceptional guide! The views at the Rand Creek Ranch are some of the most breathtaking!! Thank you for sharing your horses & beautiful ranch with us!! Highly recommend a full two hour trail ride at Rand Creek Ranch!!

We stayed here for a night during a roadtrip in Sep 2022, and took one of the trail rides in the morning. The ranch is really conveniently located, less than an hour outside of Cody and about 40 minutes from Yellowstone East entrance. The cabin was great, lots of room and all basic appliances (fridge, microwave, coffeemaker) and they had super-fast Starlink internet.
The horseback riding was fun as well, we took the 2-hour ride, the horses were friendly and well-cared for and the trail had some stunning views.
Definitely worth a recommendation if you want to have a place to stay before, after or while exploring Yellowstone!
Gem of a museum commemorating an oft-forgotten piece of history: the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. The site is more than just the museum. Be sure to visit the guard tower, honor roll, restored barrack and root cellar. You can view the restored chimney to the hospital, too, but inside is not accessible. They are adding two wings to the current building: the LaDonna Zall research center and the Mineta-Simpson Institute at Heart Mountain. Pictured is a view of Heart Mountain from inside the lobby.

Internment camp for Japanese Americans during WW 2. I learned a lot of history about these camps. There was a place near Crossville, TN called J _p Camp that had the same guard post and layout. I was under the impression that Japanese prisoners of war were there. I learned that there weren't prisoners of war, but American citizens.
There was a possibility the camp was from Fort Forrest, TN.

I did not know of this place until our friends, who live near there, told us about it. You can see Heart mountain from their place. We spent the night at their place and got to the center just as it opened.
A very interesting presentation was given to the group before we went on a self guided tour.

My parents and brother were incarcerated here. My sister died here. This injustice has affected my family for generations. No American history is complete without knowledge of this time.

Today, the Twins, decided it was high time to find out what Heart Mountain Interpretive center was all about.
As we parked and entered the Center, we were greeted by a guide who gave us information regarding the Center and what we would be seeing.
We watched an old movie that gave insight on what had taken place all those many years ago. As i left the theater, my heart felt heavy that a President, who should have been protecting these 'Americans' rights, chose instead to do just the opposite and destroyed many lives in the process.
Much information is contained in the Center and, at a cost of just $7 (senior), you can learn a great deal through murals, short movies, as well as talking to the staff.
The most interesting part of the day was standing between a couple of worn down barracks, and walking the worn trails so as to get pictures of the hospital, a guard tower and get a feel of a part of history that I pray never happens again!
**Highly Recommend

This interpretive center provides basic and personal information about the camp and why Japanese Americans were sent here. It describes the conditions they lived under and offers a view of how the lives of those who lived here were impacted. The displays are well done. Give yourself plenty of time to absorb all the information.

It was closed due to construction while google maps said it is open. Next time will call and schedule our visit. Outdoor exhibits were great though. Definitely what happened here should be thought at schools in history class.
Suavi Oden — Google review
This is a place that every American should visit! Japanese internment is a part of our history that is usually not taught, and if it is, it is not covered adequately. The displays are written in the first person, so it's as if you are hearing from one of the captives. The path through the building starts with the bombing of Pearl Harbor and progresses chronologically from the building of the barracks until the last person leaves in 1954. The grounds of the property have stands where you can use your phone with the new Heart Mountain AR app to see characters doing an activity that would happen in that space. This is all privately funded, and they are still able to keep adding to the museum. We take all of our out-of-town guests there, and they have all raved about it when they were back home.
Check for winter hours. I think it's just one day/week then.
The Buffalo Bill Dam & Visitor Center is a historical landmark that showcases an impressive piece of engineering from the early 20th century. Though it's not terribly far it was nice on a hot day not to walk. Tips are appreciated though not expected. The views of the dam and surrounding areas are spectacular. And the visitor center is very neat with lots of information and videos about the dam and surrounding area, history and such. Also a cute gift shop with lots of unique items. Interesting historic site that can swiftly be visited on the way from Yellowstone to Cody.
Parking lot is a little stretch away from the visitor center. The visitor can opt for walking a few feet or be transported by golf carts.
There is no entrance fee. Clean restrooms are available there. In the inside one can learn something about the history of the dam, that enabled a productive agriculture in this arid landscape around 1900. Also, information is available of the wildlife in the region and about dinosaurs having lived there millions of years back. Of course, the dam itself can also be observed, but watch out for your hat, because it's pretty windy on top of the wall.

Inside the Visitor Center, a wealth of information awaited me. Exhibits delved into the intricate mechanisms of dam operation, hydraulic systems, and the vital role the dam played in transforming the region. Detailed diagrams, models, and interactive displays provided a deep understanding of the engineering principles at play.
I was particularly captivated by the historical narratives that unfolded. Learning about the challenges faced during construction, the perseverance of the workers, and the impact of the dam on the local community added a layer of significance to my visit.
The panoramic views from the dam were awe-inspiring. The vast reservoir, formed by the dam's construction, stretched before me, glistening in the sunlight. It was a testament to the harmonious integration of human ingenuity with the natural landscape.

Great little museum in powell,WY. Lots of interesting antiques and a nice rock collection of artifacts, fossils and minerals. Unfortunately I have given this three stars because of a woman that helped us when we came in. She asked us where we were from and when we told her she got angry stating she does not and will not come to our town. My wife was rattled and walked out, I quickly made my way through the museum. I would recommend the history here but I would caution the staff.

The Homesteader Museum highlights an exciting time in American history. Powell Wyoming was a part of the Shoshone Project which was a federal Reclamation Project in 1904 to bring irrigation to the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming and expand productive farmland westward. The people who settled here are rugged, hardworking Homesteaders. Powell continues to have a strong agricultural foundation with a forward-looking sensibility. The Museum does a wonderful job with local programs and national exhibits. The Director/ Curator Brandi Wright and her staff are very knowledgeable and really create a unique museum experience. History buffs love the pioneer and homesteading stories and the Beaver Homestead House at the museum. Engineers appreciate the scope of work it took to build the irrigation system. Families bring their kids to enjoy the Red train caboose and great exhibits. Locals and visitors get to enjoy great events like Homesteader Days the 2nd Saturday in September every year.

The Cody Nite Rodeo in Wyoming offers an exhilarating experience filled with high-energy entertainment. This rodeo showcases the talents of cowboys and their horsemanship skills, as they face off against powerful bulls and broncos. Families can also enjoy kid-friendly events such as the calf scramble. The rodeo has been a tradition since 1938 and provides visitors with a glimpse into the authentic American West.
One of the highlights of our trip was the cody night rodeo it was something that you don't see much in the United States and my children really enjoyed very much this is a must do if you're near Cody. It was fun it was entertaining and was unique.

This is the first time we came to a rodeo show and we didn't know exactly what to expect. I must say that we really enjoyed what we saw. A professional show, the rodeo clown was funny and added a lot to the fun, a full two hour show that definitely gave great value for the price, which is not expensive anyway. It is definitely recommended to come to this exciting performance.

Final night of 2021 rodeo was rock solid. Great contestants, great announcer, but the true element that MADE the night was the DJ. Best DJ of any rodeo or professional sporting event of all time. Clever, funny, amped things up. Standing ovation for a great season. Thanks all!
Kiki Kruse — Google review
If you really love rodeo, or want to experience your first the rodeo performance itself is fine, although when putting on a nightly show for months you simply aren't going to have the biggest names or top competitors for most of those showings. But the competitors who were there when we attended were easy to root for, and we really enjoyed the junior competitions (barrel racing and roping). The employees we interacted with were all friendly, and if it's your first rodeo the $5 guidebook is well worth the price.
The facilities are adequate and the surrounding landscape is stunning. Whether you enjoy the non-rodeo aspects may depend on your sociopolitical persuasion (and/or tolerance for the views of others). The pre-rodeo prayers and flag-waving portion is prolonged and neither nuanced or subtle, and while it probably feels reassuring to some, it might seem to border on self-parody to others.
Finally, the rodeo clown banter did not go over well with our group. Our group was made up of individuals ranging in age from 14 to 71, evenly split between men and women, and contained people who grew up in small-town Wyoming as well as those from the Midwest and West Coast, (several are rodeo regulars). Everyone in our group felt the attempts at humor fell surprisingly short, and sometimes felt downright mean-spirited. I'm sure some will find it their cup of tea, but given the diversity of our group I want to note it for others.
I would not recommend against the experience, but you should know what you are getting into to make sure it's worth your money and time.

The Cody Night Rodeo in Cody, Wyoming, was an exhilarating experience that left me thoroughly entertained. The nightly rodeo events provided a fantastic showcase of skill and courage, keeping the excitement alive throughout. The announcer, with his charm and wit, added a unique touch as he confidently announced the events while mounted on his horse. The combination of adrenaline-pumping bull riding, impressive roping, and daring barrel racing made for a great show. Whether you're a rodeo enthusiast or just looking for a thrilling evening, the Cody Night Rodeo is a must-visit destination that promises a memorable and fun-filled time.

It’s a great show with cattle lassoing, horse skills, bull riding and lots of antics. A full on traditional rodeo run nightly for 89 years.
Food available and quality could be improved.

We visited the rodeo on 7/5. Such a fabulous time with the family. Announcers were fun and kept the event entertaining. Loved watching the kids in their events as well. Barrel racing and bull riding were our favorite.

We had a great time! My first time to a rodeo. Our Aflac team had seating in the Party Platform section. It was a great view and we were able to relax. The seats are a bit uncomfortable, but if you figure out a way to tilt back with them a little, it works - or you can alternate between standing and sitting. Chili cheese nachos were great, the middle line seemed to be much faster than the right line(yes they do take debit/credit cards at the concessions). The show was great, the clown and the other host were very funny. We all had a memorable experience.

The rodeo was pretty entertaining. Also the seats were nice because they had back rests. The rodeo was fun and it definitely gives a good Wyoming experience. This was my second time and I’ll probably go again some day.

One of the most fun rodeos we've ever been to! Very friendly staff...great rodeo clown (sid) and announcer. So much fun for the whole family. The rodeo ran about 2 hours. Great little shop for merch. Snack stand was a little pricey.
Great time for everyone !

Had a great time during a mid-July weekend evening rodeo. Great riders and amazing horses. Clean family fun with great wholesome values proudly displayed
. We had fun, and I enjoyed capturing the atmosphere and sport on camera.

Great, fun night out. Rodeo, bucking bulls, very entertaining! Food & drinks booths and a little shop where you can buy rodeo souvenirs (sweatshirts, etc.). We got there on the rodeo bus, which picks up & drops off at various points in town (hotels). A little tip, we sat on the opposite stand to the entrance, as it’s where the majority of the action is!!
Old Trail Town in Cody, Wyoming is a captivating museum that allows visitors to step back in time and experience the allure of the Old West. Situated near the rodeo grounds, this historical attraction showcases 26 well-preserved cabins and a trail of worn wagons, providing an authentic glimpse into what life was like in an old western town. Through the dedicated efforts of Bob Edgar, a local historian from Wyoming, these cabins were carefully saved from destruction and painstakingly reconstructed at Old Trail Town.
I visited Old Trail Town a few days ago, and had a lovely experience. The ladies working there were knowledgeable and friendly. One lady even taught me to lasso a cow! The exhibits were pretty interesting. I would recommend it, if you like history (which I do!) They even had a cute little souvenir shop in the general store.

Pretty cool random place we saw on our way out from Yellowstone. They have done a great job with show casing the cabins and the information about them. The staff was really nice and the lady that we bought the tickets from was really entertaining. This was a cool random find. If you have time to visit it’s a quick hour to see some cool old cowboy things.

We've been in Cody for 2 weeks and have this on our bucket list. Jeremiah "Liver Eating" Johnston is my favorite mountain man since we've seen the movie with the same name with Robert Redford.
Amazing history wrapped up in a self paced hour-ish tour of some OLD west 1800-1930 circa items. These pictures give it no justice. We were NOT disappointed. For a small fee 10 bucks for me and 12 bucks for wife.
HIGHLY Recommend this place.

It costs 10 dollars per person. It was really cool, apparently he takes the actual log homes and rebuilds them on the site. It was very informative.

The old trail town is tucked away a couple blocks off the main drag through Cody.
Neat collection of old buildings all relocated from across the region into one location for you to walk through.
A plaque adorns each log cabin telling where it was from, the history of the occupants and it is decorated as it would have been when in use.
For the kids there is a small little roping area with a miniature calf that the younger ones enjoyed spending some time at, the actual reading of the plaques and walking through the buildings I believe is more geared towards adults.
The town is nicely done and if you are a fan of reading the rich history and seeing the museum like displays you will enjoy this

We had a great afternoon touring this old west town. They have done an amazing job of reconstructing these old homes/businesses and filling them with the same era housewares.

Old Trail Town is a fascinating place to view relics from the settlement of the western US. Great care has been taken with preserving and displaying the collections. While there are displays of beautifully made clothing and other items by the original inhabitants of our country, there is no mention of the atrocities committed upon native nations to secure the western states for Euro-Americans.

The Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming is an interactive museum dedicated to the history of the American West. This complex consists of five museums and a research library that showcase the life and legacy of William Frederick Cody, also known as Buffalo Bill. The exhibits within these world-class museums explore various aspects such as Native American cultures, Western art, firearms, and natural history. Visitors can immerse themselves in the authentic spirit of the American West through these captivating exhibitions.
Really amazing place that one could spend two days enjoying. 5 different museums full of fascinating displays and information. And if you are interested in guns, this is the place for you. They have so many that you truly will leave in amazement. So happy to have had the opportunity to visit!!

Native American area, HUGE gun collection, western art gallery, cafe, private collection areas, etc .. and very nice gift shop with a case of authentically made turquoise jewelry. Very well kept museum. Memorabilia from the Irma Hotel, roulette table and the wheel. We are seniors and paid $22 each and that includes the 2 day visit.

It’s definitely worth your time to go out of your way to go to the museum. I don’t know how else to describe it, but unbelievable. If you enjoy viewing firearms, you should probably plan on staying there all day. There’s so much to see that it will take you most of the day to go through the museum. We’ve been there twice and definitely will be back again.

Such an amazing place full of history. 5 museums featured in one complex. There is no way to see everything in one day and that is why you can keep your ticket and you can come back for day 2. The Cody Firearm museum should be on your bucket list to see. It has over 10,000 firearms that cover hundreds of years. Absolutely amazing and well laid out.

We spent 2-3 hours at the museum and felt like we got what we paid for. A world’s class western art exhibit, a phenomenal gun collection and a good briefing of local natural history. Buffalo Bill was not a draw for me. That mart of the museum was nicely done and we sped through looking at historical pieces. What really is the gem here is the discussion of geology, flora, fauna and the people (not just Buffalo Bill) but the Indigenous and the settlers. Would have loved to see more on Trapping, Louis and Clark, and the expeditions that shaped this part of the American West. The Plains Indian exhibit was very nicely done and included some contemporary issues. We would recommend this museum to anyone headed to Yellowstone (especially the art museum). Because you will get a picture of what you will see but it is no where near the true beauty of the land.

A must see if you like western history and curious about Buffalo Bill.
I didn't know anything about Buffalo Bill before I arrived. However, after I left I felt knowledgeable enough that I could accurately share some facts with others.
Plenty of exhibits! From art, natural history, firearms, live birds, Native Americans and so much more. I really like the layout of the firearm exhibits. They have plenty of information regarding how firearms work with videos and side exhibits. One thing they are missing in this exhibit that I would have like to know more about is the composition of the ammunition powder and how that has evolved over the years. I only noticed two hands-on exhibits developed solely for kids. Unfortunately, Buffalo Bill's home and playground was not accessible during our visit.
Food court provides heath options such as sandwiches, salads, and soups. Dining area is quite large.
Admission price makes this museum accessible for a couple but it may be difficult for larger families or out of reach. Maybe the museum should consider children free since really exhibits are mostly enjoyed by adult patrons.

Absolutely gigantic with something for everybody! We easily spent a weekend here, which could have turned into an entire week. The entry fee is reasonable for how large, clean, and interactive everything is. Nothing was broken and all exhibits were well maintained. The Buffalo Bill Center of The West was one of the top places on my list of stops to make on my five month RV journey of the Midwest. I was here thirty two years ago when the museum only consisted of the Buffalo Bill Museum and the Firearms museum and it has grown now to five museums in one location. The five museums are The Buffalo Bill Museum, The Plains Indian Museum, The Whitney Western Art Museum, The Draper Natural History Museum and The Cody Firearms Museum. This is a museum full of antique and vintage guns found or dug up. It was started by carpenter Hans Kurth 40 years ago and now has over 1,000 artifacts on display.
Very cool displays. I appreciate all the additional artifacts to fill the imagery of the different time periods. I saw a sign in here that said no pictures allowed inside.
Lauren Tatty — Google review
We really loved the dug up gun museum. My fiance is less of a history and gun nut than I am, and she also really enjoyed it. We both felt there was a lot of power behind seeing these artifacts as they were found; you could almost feel the story and the history behind them. From guns of the American revolution, to the old west, to the world wars, it was amazing to be so close to real, unvarnished history, it was easy to imagine the lives and stories of the people who had held these guns, some of them likely all the way to their deaths. We went on June 6th, the anniversary of D-Day, and were particularly touched by a 1911 pistol which had been damaged by a German bullet, and a stack of bullet damaged helmets recovered from Normandy beach. The dug up gun museum is definitely a place for more than just "gun people," though there's a lot for them there too, but it also a place where you can feel the history and then lives of the people who used these guns in incredibly trying times throughout history. I would plan on spending around an hour there, but you could do more or less time. It was also open later than many other Cody attractions, which was very convenient.
Zach Burke — Google review
Fascinating free museum! History from all over the US thru many time periods. As expected from a “dug up museum” most are not going to be completely intact, but some are …complete with rounds in the chambers in some cases. Come out and watch the shootout— and stop by before or after (open until 9pm) to see the unearthed artifacts. Chat with and ask questions of the fun knowledgeable collector and treasure hunt thru the display for articles from your state! And if you can leave a donation so that everyone can visit for free!

I stumbled upon this place after dinner and had no idea what I was walking into, but I'm so glad I did. Its an amazing collection of dug up and found firearms from the last few centuries until WW2. So many oddities and rarities you won't see again. Each piece features short information and stories which makes it great for anybody with or without knowledge. The icing on the cake for me was the owner. He is amazingly friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the collection. If you stop in be sure to ask questions about the pieces as he has so much more information and countless stories he can't fit on the small cards in the cases. Highly recommend anybody to stop in, just be sure to take no pictures! He takes donations as entry fees so be sure to leave something if you enjoyed it as much as I did. I hope I can stop back in someday.

Love these obscure 'object' museums put together by passionate people who enjoy collecting and talking about history. The owner has amassed a huge number of old guns I've never seen or heard of (but I'm not a gun aficionado). Pepper guns? Fob guns? Palm guns? He needs a bigger space to display them all. You won't be disappointed and it is a must see if you will be in Cody. Donations accepted! Also, ck out the Hammer Museum in Haines Alaska too!

I’ve been to a plethora of firearm museums and I’ve only ever seen one like this.
The artifacts are fascinating and the story’s behind them are incredible.
The artifacts at this museum tell a story and a damn good one at that. Nothing else like it.

If you have any interest in history or firearms this is the place to visit. The collection is outstanding I only wish I'd had more time, there is not only exhibits but in most cases there's a detailed description or details related to each object where found and the manufacturer and country of origin. The owner is a subject matter expert on the contents of the museum. It's also free but please leave a donation to preserve this segment of history.

Rustic and authentic, as a small town establishment should be. We had a late breakfast at the Cafe. They serve a generous portion.
Our server proved friendly, which is a big plus for a people person, such as I. She kept the coffee flowing and paid attention to requests.
Would live to give five stars, but its a simple setting, not too fancy. However, this is my kind of place. Loved hearing the locals banter as they dined.
I would definitely return here if I had the chance.

Have had one bad experience after another over the last year. From getting wrong order, extra long wait time during slow time, gross soggy pizza, major attitude from staff, running and signing credit card without permission, to trying to charge $53.00 for a (maybe $20) box of wine. Will Never go back. Sad too. Used to be my favorite spot in town. I do have to say, the most recent bartender was good. I'm sorry I don't know her name. (Maria?) And Hilton was always wonderful as well.
So excited to get my shipment of Easter eggs from Meeteetse today! Shipping was fast and everything was in perfect condition. So gorgeous and delicious. I only wish I could post a photo! I love the handkerchief wrapping paper and the hand written note in my order. They really care about providing the best chocolate as well as customer service! Exceeded my expectations!

As I passed though town I stopped here. I was excited because it's been on my list of things to do/see for some time after reading about it somewhere. I bought 3 truffles and 3 pastries. I asked the gentleman about the fancy chocolate chips he has for sale. Wanted to find out which was his favorite. Cause I like making chocolates too. He stated that he wouldn't sell it if it wasn't good. I definitely understand that however I wished he went in to more detail on each or say something about them so I could get a better feel on them other than the flavor profile displayed. Especially, because they are a bit pricy for a quarter pound of chocolate. I was the only customer in the store so I didn't think I was putting him out but after the silence I decided to just get what I did and nothing more. The truffles were ok. I did enjoy the Peanut Butter one the best. The Coconut and Irish Cream had just a hint of those flavors. Nothing special. The pastries were good. Unfortunately, I don't remember which ones were what but the cinnamon and sugar encrusted muffin shaped one was excellent.

My partner brought me some of these and I was SO IMPRESSED with the quality. Would give them 6 stars if I could!

Chocolates are unique, expensive, fragile (in terms of longevity), and tasty. It's a treat for sure. Service could be friendlier, but hey, when you serve such a delectable indulgence with nothing to compare it to, that is the purveyors prerogative. It is a distinctive Meeteetse experience.

Literally just experienced the ratatouille cheese and fruit scene eating a truffle, this ruined chocolate for me cause nothing will ever be better than this, gonna have to visit my grandma more often for this chocolate

Unless you like to be treated bad you can get great chocolate at the gas station and friendly service. Just saying

The chocolate truffles are wonderful, if a bit pricey ($3.25 each). They are freshly made every day, and the sign says to eat them the same day or at least within 5 days. They are made without preservatives of any kind. The chocolate itself easily scores a 5 star rating. I only gave 4 stars because of the packaging. We bought 5 truffles of different flavors, and they were packaged safely in a box with tissue paper. But which truffle was which flavor? Yes, I could bite into one, but what does prickly pear taste like? Suppose that I wanted to save the Wyoming whiskey flavor for a friend. It would be helpful to have the truffles labeled in the box.

I am sitting in a park licking the paper my truffles were in. Incredible flavor blends. His pastries are also worth sampling and have their own hidden flavor bombs. Yum.

Cute place. Locals came in for breakfast pastries. I left with coconut cream truffles. Yum.

Chocolate was very tasty. Cowboy who makes it, fresh every day he said, was not a bit friendly or helpful. Felt like we were annoying him to be there.

Wow! You haven't imagined heaven until you've had one of these truffles. I am in love with the Focaccia Truffle... you can taste the olive oil, herbs and salt.
The custom 8 packs are the way to go plus a bag of bark!
Advice: Order early because you have to get them over night delivery and prices go up
More than what you would expect from a museum in such a small town. Well worth the visit and don't forget to donate or shop while you are there. The black-footed ferret plushes are exceptionally cute.

We just stopped by here so we wouldn't arrive too early. It was an amazing surprise! Both of us were surprised to find such an organized, intriguing, and informative museum. It is truly a group of different museums! We ended up spending almost 3 hours. A true hidden gem!

The lady that greeted us was really nice and the museum is very unique. It is free and just has a donation box, which we did because the place had the 2 big Grizzlies and so much more on the town mercantile and western way of life. Definitely recommend stopping in before you go to eat, they don't allow food inside. We had just had a great meal at the Elkhorn bar and grill.

This place was a pleasant surprise! There was a lot of history in this little town. They had 2 huge stuffed bears amongst other things.

Me and my 2 yo son had a great time here! Lots of visually stunning displays and really interesting history. The man working when we were there was so kind and attentive, and gave us lots of info. Loved his enthusiasm and stories! Definitely recommend this sweet little local museum.

This place is absolutely stunning! Gives us more Bryce Canyon vibes than it does Badlands. Super cool to explore. The trail is super quick but I like how it takes you up and around everything.
Waverly Stevens — Google review
About a mile hike, maybe less. Great easy hike, I did it wearing flip flops with no issue. Great views of the badlands. We're very glad we stopped and took the time to walk the trail. Took us about 35 minutes.

First time I've been to the Gooseberry Badlands and can't wait to return! A really nice path leads around the Badlands, but we enjoyed going a bit "off trail" and looking at cool rocks and formations. Definitely worth the couple of hours we spent there.

A favorite, comfortable hike. My two boys (ages 11 and 9) did this hike with me in just under an hour. There is no shade, so be sure to bring water.

Nice little walk! Can get kind surprisingly dissorienting, just follow the poles marking the trail. Took me about 25 or 30 minutes at a lesiurely pace.

Very lonely place, a beautilfull hike. I visited this place during my road trip. The hiking is thrilling as this place is not crowded, I hike alone in the emptyness and nobody is there. So it is kind of lost in the natural world, I enjoyed so much, i would higly recommend this place if you like the natures wonder.

Great place to hike, trail is very nice. Topography feels closer to Arizona or Mars!

Had the Badlands to ourselves, great for Grandparents, Children and Grandchildren. Kind of an Out-of-This-World place.

ImpressIve rock formations and wildflowers enhance the short hike through this secluded area. We enjoyed it by ourselves on a Friday afternoon. There are numbered sign posts along the trail, but no easy way to find out what they mean.

Legend Rock State Petroglyph Site is a hidden gem in Wyoming. The Native American significance can certainly be seen and felt when visiting. There is a nice one room interpretive center that discusses some of the history of the area and a well-marked trail that takes you around to the big panels of Native American petroglyphs. The trail is an easy mile walk, but make sure you wear some hikers. The volunteer monitoring the site was very kind and helpful.

Cooler summer evening. Large trail is gentle. Trail with numbers a bit more work. Lots of little lizards.
Kathleen Straight-Bray — Google review
Simply amazing. The jerk who defaced the one panel should be drawn and quartered.

Went at sunset and I love it 🇺🇸not just the place, but the drive there. At the base there is small/nice interpretive center and it is well kept.Be aware that there are gravel roads during the drive there and wild life is everywhere,so you can really see where the inspiration for the Carvings/Drawings came from. Please do not litter y'all ❤️ I took a WY flag gifted to me in Cody.

Simply amazing petroglyphs.
Short drive from Thermopolis, Wyoming.
Went early in the morning. Nice and cool.
About 1/2 mile walk. Might want to wear shoes with support. Bathrooms were clean and large. Great visit!!!
Bonny Koeber — Google review
Very cool petroglyphs. Trail was fairly well maintained, and it didn't take very long to see them all. Outhouse was open and picnic tables were available. The visit center was closed and didn't have hours.

My husband and I went by on the way back from Yellowstone. It was a short hike and the information provided helped explain the petroglyphs. Beautiful drive about 7 miles off the main road.
Vicky Cummings — Google review
This site is run by some very dedicated volunteers. Stop into the Visitors Center for more information and a self guided tour with explanations of the petroglyphs. Well worth your time and easy to find.

Nice walk with really cool Native American Petroglyphs! It's very quiet and secluded. Wear appropriate footwear as the area does have rattlesnakes.
Brenda Czarnecki — Google review
Amazing to see. Not much of a hike just a nice stroll. I was able to take a stroller on the main trail and watch my husband and toddler go on the smaller trail to get closer to the art. Beautiful to see and nice brochure to explain what you're looking at. Highly recommend!
