Park with an estate featuring a Frank Lloyd Wright house, tours & a visitor center with exhibits.
Our last stop on our way back to MN and we totally enjoyed it. This was our first Frank Lloyd Wright designed home that we have toured. While we waited for our tour, we checked out the family’s boat and motor. It was like nothing we have ever seen before. Our tour guide Nathan was the very knowledgeable. There wasn’t a question he didn’t answer including ones that didn’t directly pertain to the home. He played the piano for us and it was just marvelous. The ideas that Frank Lloyd Wright included into the home were amazing. We were surprised at the number of patents that he held. The bathroom was very interesting and a real space saver. Our favorite tidbit was that the homeowners left money in their will so the gas station close by could hand out full size candy bars like they used to do on Halloween.
Jeanette Hoveland — Google review
The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house was amazing. This is a design that blends into the environment around it. The park staff were very knowledgeable about the property. If you are even a little bit interested in architecture then you must visit this house.
Frank Gruman — Google review
Not sure what to say ... started at visitor center and walked on a path for a bit, found a sign saying house ⬅️ or was it ↖️ ... walked for a spell, found some water and eight turkeys came out of the prairie grass ... walked for another bit and came to an service road, still no house ... turned around, walked back to vehicle and left.
Richard Dullard — Google review
Call ahead for a tour. The visitor center itself is worth a stop if you can’t get a tour reserved. The grounds of the visitor center and Cedar Rock are beautifully landscaped with native flowers. The Walter house is stunning, the garden room is what dreams are made of.
Ben Smart — Google review
Amazing! Our guide, Nathan, made the tour so special, he even played a piece of music written for the house on the original Steinway! The house is a gem. Well worth the trip and then some.
Stuart King — Google review
We were so fortunate to stumble upon Cedar Rock! En route to Sioux Falls, SD, we had no idea this masterpiece existed near Quasqueton, Iowa (in spite of being FLW devotees) . The director, Katie, and tour guide, Nathan, were both incredibly knowledgeable and gracious. After touring the home (seeing a dress designed by FLW for Agnes Walter and lingering in the stunning garden room), we visited the boathouse (currently being restored), and the council fire site. Iowans have been exceptional caretakers of this iconic estate!

This park is about the Frank Lloyd Wright house, and they do a good job of putting the house in context and telling the story of the property.
You really need to see the house to understand it. Pictures alone won't do it. It is both conspicuous and the antithesis to conspicuous consumption. The house is both expansive and very frugal with space. Wright's attention to detail is evident everywhere. The use of hardwood for interior surfaces and furnishings is rich.
An astute person could probably spot many design patterns and geometric forms. Even as a passive observer I did spot a few. The surrounding property, the lake and the boathouse make for an impressive residence.
The property is a small treasure, and the state park and their staff make the visit very rewarding.
Sam Fenstermacher — Google review
Cedar Rock State Park is the home to a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and owned by the Walter's. It is an amazing experience to visit. An educated guide led our tour giving us a peak into FLW's mind and the Walter's life at the home he designed for them. There is no charge, but you may make a donation. You do need to call and schedule a time for your tour. This is the first FLW house I have visited, and I want to explore more of his designs. The park is beautiful, and the house blends seamlessly into its setting.
Kathleen Buchholz — Google review
Best example of a preserved Usonian, complete with the original owner's housewares, on a gorgeous bluff overlooking the river. Complete with an impressive boathouse. This is a must see for anyone who has ever heard of Frank Lloyd Wright, and even those who haven't.
Amy Tropp — Google review
The Walter House at Cedar Rock is a must see Frank Lloyd Wright (signed) home.
The staff is super friendly and the tour was a lot of fun. The Garden Room is gorgeous.
Brittany Flokstra — Google review
You won’t find anything else like this. It is a complete Wright package from dishes to house to boat house. A must see!
Dennis Robertson — Google review
We visited Cedar Rock this past Saturday, July 13th. We were greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff. What an incredible opportunity to see a Frank Lloyd Wright house in such original condition, where he not only designed and built the house but the furnishings and decor as well. The tour was fascinating, I can't say enough good things about the experience. We even had a chance to sit in one of the Frank Lloyd Wright chairs, they were covered by a cloth to protect them but - how cool was that! I also must mention Nathan, our guide, he gave a very informative and enjoyable tour. It's a must see. And at a bargain price! They only suggest a $5 donation.

Backbone State Park, an Iowa treasure, is a sprawling natural reserve featuring a lake and 21 miles of multi-use trails suited for hiking, biking and snowmobiling. The park offers diverse outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, cabin rental and boat rental. The backbone trail is a must-see attraction known for its famous rock spine that extends for 1 mile.
One of our All Time Favorite Spots In Iowa, Backbone State Park is a MUST SEE/MUST HIKE park!!!
We hiked here in late October and I highly recommend visiting during that time! The weather was gorgeous, the colors were beautiful and it was just busy enough that we weren't alone, but we still felt like we were!
There are plenty of hiking trails with different difficulty. At one point we somehow ended up on what I'm pretty positive was a deer path instead of a trail, but it's hard to beat the views no matter where you're hiking!
MAP Adventures — Google review
Beautiful park. Very well kept up. Single private showers with locks in the camp grounds, also very clean. 4-1 bedroom cabins, 4-2 bedroom cabins also very nice. Trout stream for fishing that they stock regularly. Miles of trails to walk, lots of picturesque views to take in. Suggest going in the fall when the colors are vibrant.
David Honts — Google review
We visited over Veterans Day weekend 2022, so I’m almost a year late posting this. We had the park almost to ourselves, stayed in one of the cabins on site. Very simple, and modest but good enough for a place to warm up and rest for the night.
Trails were decent, and definitely easy. Saw eagles, deer, and evidence of beavers. Our mini schnauzer loved exploring, and even caught a mole! Good times!
Helen Mayfield — Google review
Beautiful park but mostly close during the winter and spring. Check the park's website or give them a call before coming. There are also caves, fishing sites and camping grounds. Various location to enter the park but highly recommend the north entrance and the entrances by the overflow.
Raaman Nair — Google review
We camped here for three nights. The campground is very laid back. Showers were ok. Campground was quiet. Backbone trail was awesome! Great views and neat rock formations. We also saw the cave and did the Barred Owl hike and East Lake hike.
Angela King — Google review
Awesome Park with so much to see. This park is so pretty and fun to explore. I would highly recommend this park. RV park in the back. Travel photographer from Galena IL.

Weather turned cold the end of camping season but it didn't change our minds. Beautiful spot and we ended up with almost the whole park to ourselves. A lot of nice places for walking and hiking. This was our first visit and when spring gets here we are sure to visit again and again so much to explore!
Elizabeth King — Google review
This was our first visit, and honestly, we didn't allow enough time in the afternoon to see everything this park has to offer. We hiked the Lake Trail, but no one was sure after looking at the park's trail map what length it was or time it would take before we lost sunlight. Poor map.
The trail was not an easy hike due to lots of rocks and tree roots to watch for under foot. I think looking down at our feet took away from the beautiful scenery we had hoped to enjoy. Adding to the stress was wondering where the trail finally turned to head back toward the parking lot. We never seemed to reach the end of the lake, but the sun was just above the tree tops, and we had to turn back. It's definitely not a trail we would want to hike in the dark, not being familiar with it and much of it being right at the edge of the lake embankment, only about a foot wide. Once home, I added a Trail App to my phone and realized we would have never been able to hike the full distance around the lake in the time we had. But apparently there were other easier and shorter trails we could have taken if we had known about them.
Signage getting to the park was non existent, oddly. Even the last turn had no sign visible until you're right at the entrance further up the road.
No available restrooms near the lake open in November. No water fountains working either. Not surprising for November, but it was a warm day. We didn't think we'd be sweating on the trail, and hadn't brought water bottles along. Better next time?!
Debbie Splean — Google review
Great place to hike, explore, fish, camp etc. We checked out the cave and the springs. The stream running through the park was full of trout, did not fish for them so not sure how hard they are to catch. Took some time to walk along the stream and check out the woods. To see everything you would need way more time than the three hours we were here. Will be back.
Marty Hogan — Google review
I would have given this place more stars if we had known that the Park Store was closed and the lake was full of E. Coli and blue algae toxins. We camped there June 5 and 6. We had never been there before, but we were expecting to be able to get firewood and concessions at the Park Store. That's also where you can rent canoes, kayaks, etc. No such luck - everything was closed. The only thing we saw was one small sign in front of the beach warning about excessive E. Coli and blue algae. It discouraged people from swimming, fishing, etc. Very disappointing. Other than that, the campground was spread out and spacious. It was quiet and secluded. It was very buggy when we were there, and silk worms were hanging from the trees - more than I've ever seen anywhere else. The kids had a great time at least. I hope to go back sometime when the lake is back to normal and everything is open. Didn't get to do any hiking this time around, but hopefully next time.

Backbone is the 1st State Park in Iowa and has a great history with the Civilian Conservation Corps. Great swimming beach, tons of trails, and modernized campgrounds. Tons of shade all around. Can get a little buggy, but that is anywhere these days.
Eric Doll — Google review
Backbone is a beautiful state park. It’s shows off some of the most beautiful hardwood trees in the fall splendor…leaves are just electric in the fall. We love hiking the trails with our dogs. The park is immaculate as visitors respect it and keep in clean. If you camp, the sites are nice with quite a few to chose from. The small beach is also rather nice in the summer. This is a true jewel in northeast Iowa

Awesome state park. Beautiful lake and multiple spring fed stream. Mile of hiking trails. Great place to camp, fish and just enjoy the views.
Jozsef Gitta — Google review
One of my favorite state parks. Great hiking trails, camping, fishing, and the woods are gorgeous. Especially in the fall. Beautiful rolling hills with a river winding through. A great place to explore and just love on some nature.
Candace Fagerlind — Google review
This is a super nice park. Pretty big too. We stayed here in our travel trailer and the site was nice and spacious. Slightly shaded. Electric only but the bathrooms are clean and there's water spouts throughout the park. We went to the spring and the cave. Both super short walks but pretty. We could have spent another day or two here but we were just passing through on our way back to Ohio.
Katie A — Google review
We did the backbone trail loop and it was cool! You have to do a little self navigating through some of the rocks and trees especially with all the fallen leaves covering the trail. It felt like we were rock climbing at times. The trail is full of tripping hazards. Watch the ground at all time. The rocks stick up like a spine would so the name is fitting. Then once you're past the rock parts, it'd a ton of tree root trippers. Not for elderly or young children. I did help my dog up and down some of the rocks we had to climb that were a big jump. Also it was 3pm and you could hear a lot of owls which made it even better!
Kae Salyers — Google review
Hiked the Blue Bird and East Lake trails! Absolutely incredible. Easy trails to follow. Beautiful scenery.
This farm turned set of the famed 1989 baseball movie features group tours & a gift shop.
Such an incredible experience seeing my grown sons having a catch with their dad on this field. Iowa was truly heaven that day.
Beautifully maintained. Kind workers. Truly wonderful.
Sadly too early for corn.
Susan Pennypacker — Google review
This was a super cool place and highly recommended the house tour. Our house tour guide Craig, he was super awesome and loved that he was in a period time uniform. It just added to the whole experience. I wish other staff members were dressed the same. The reason I kept it from 5 stars was I was a bit disappointed in the gift shop. There wasn't much field of dreams items and to meet that's the main attraction and there should be many items relating to the movie and period time clothing that the ball players wore. They do ask for a $20 dollar donation.
They should have stuff that says " if you build he will come" or have some of the other famous quotes on clothing with the baseball diamond in the background, have other souvenirs that relate to the movie and not just all clothes that's baseball team related.
Ashley Howerton — Google review
This is a free attraction. However, donations are encouraged. There is a concession building & another building for merchandise. You can purchase house tours, but they are for certain times, so if you want one, be sure to look at the schedule and time your visit. It was fun to be able to go onto the field and pitch to our kids & we were all able to bat!
If you love the movie I would recommend going to! As the season goes on, the corn grows.
Tiffany Hemberger — Google review
Oh man, even in the snow, it's a glorious site! We experienced the field like the first winter in the movie! And we added the house tour, too. What a wonderful tour Craig led! He has a passion for the sport, as well as the movie and Iowa! No wonder that he is the Manager of Visitor Experience! We enjoyed hearing the back stories of the house, previous owners, and the movie scenes. I would highly recommend seeing this site, even if you've only seen the movie once! We'll be back for sure when it thaws up here!
Cindy Clough — Google review
It was a very nice day but windy when I visited. It is nicely maintained and full of history. The admission is free, but I suggest at least $5 donation per person. After all, it requires basic maintenance. There is a gift shop on-site, and you can rent the baseball equipment I'd you don't have yours. It also has a concession stand for quick lunch and snacks. Everything is like what you see in the movie. You can call walk in the field like those players walked out of corn field. The whole place is just very pleasant to visit. If you close your eyes, you can feel the pleasant breeze and smell the corn field. If your heart is quiet enough, you will also feel that spiritual connection just like Kevin Costner heard in the movie "If you build it, they will come". Although it feels like heaven, it definitely is Iowa. I never thought that Iowa's has so much to offer.
annieptx — Google review
Visited the field on a week day with friends, was surprised with the decent amount of visitors. When you pull off the road, there is a booth asking for donations as you pull into park. The field was open and we checked it all out. We did in advance buy tickets for the house tour. Was the longest tour of the smallest space I have ever been on, but the tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the information he was sharing. Gift shop is a newer building with a variety of options. Can knock out everything out in around an hour.

Was a very neat experience visiting the house & the field! We did the tour through the house & got to go on the field, and thought it was so cool just being there! So nostalgic how it’s set up just like the movie! Being an Iowan, it’s a must see!
Karissa Shaffer — Google review
Absolutely loved visiting this place. It’s so perfectly maintained you feel like you’ve been transported to another place. Lots of equipment so you can have a game. Plenty of parking. Free entry but they suggest a donation. We were very happy to pay for the privilege of being there. Don’t miss it!
Angela Byron — Google review
It was exactly like it was as if you were in the movie. Love the baseballism store addition and restaurant. Makes the drive worth it. Cute little snack shop called stretches. The corn was perfectly tall in each row. The diamond was fun for all the kids and family's to get up there and hit and catch balls. A defiant must see. They do have a donation you give at the entrance and you get a cute bumper sticker to enter. If you want to tour the house it is 24.00 adult and 12.00 a kid
Gidget Elliott — Google review
Excellent tour. We stayed overnight, ran the bases, had a catch and watched the movie sitting in the living room 😳 highly recommend it. Bedding and accommodations were quite nice as well. Very comfortable stay as well as super nostalgic
Jeff Stilwell — Google review
It's hard to describe being here but it's like a little piece of heaven! For sure a destination stop, as it's not close to anything but well worth the drive. $20 to tour the house, which is a guided tour and Greg was great! You can spend as much time as you want to there in the field and stands and there is a gift shop, snack shop and porta potties. The house can also be rented out for stays. "They will come Ray, they will come"!!
Lisa Burton — Google review
We just returned home from a trip to Field of Dreams. What a great experience! Don't delay taking your children there for some long lasting memories. You will get chills when the nostalgic ball players walk out of corn field into the outfield.
Dan Quaas — Google review
This was a dream come true. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. My son plays ball, so it was great sharing this visit with him. Got their at opening, no wait. The property is free to enter, but they ask for donations. You get some swag for donation amount. They have used ball gear for you to play ball on the very field from the film. That was the best part for my family visit. The only downside was that the corn wasn't grown! Where's Shoeless Joe and Doc hiding out? 🤔
Sitting in the stands was fun, imagining the game play. There is a carving on the top row, which Kevin made between filming scenes. The original house is there to be toured, as well as a gift shop. Take a look at their "Master Plan" in the gift shop to see what they plan for the property in the coming years.
Andy Schmidt — Google review
For what it is, it was really cool. As a baseball/softball fan and fan of the movie, the whole concept is amazing. Getting to play on the field, walk in the cornfield- truly a fun experience! Nice giftshop. A definite must to visit for baseball fans!
Dawn Miller-Walker — Google review
It is a must do if you've seen the movie. Leave a donation in support of maintaining the site. It looks just like the movie and we were lucky enough to see it with the corn grown and kids playing a game on the field. We heard there is a ghost team that played that Saturday but we couldn't attend. Climb the bleachers to see the heart carved by Kevin Costner. Tour the house if you can. Definitely waves of emotion to see the site, remember the purpose of the movie and be present there.
Jodi Obenstine — Google review
It was cool to see it. It was not a big tourist attraction and they try to keep it that way. The only price is a suggested donation, so a person can go in and look around watch baseball being played on the field, look at the house and visit the gift shop. It is on a gravel road approach so motorcycles need to be careful. The shops close at 6:00 p.m. but you can still watch baseball.
Scott Bohe — Google review
Hats off to all the owners over the years for having preserved this iconic site! It is magical from the time you drive up the driveway to the time you pull away! Even though the corn had been harvested, it still seemed like Shoeless Joe Jackson would appear and want to play ball. We even took a few swings on the field with the gear that is provided for your enjoyment, and other families did the same. The house tour was extremely informational, I highly recommend it! ($20/person) I have mixed feelings about all of the ball fields that are in the works to be built around the original, but still think it’s worth every mile to come and have the experience of standing on the Field of Dreams!
Jean Bringgold — Google review
Came off season April 11th, you are asked to pay a donation of around 20bucks, but the amount you give is up to you. Would have been nice to come in summer months when the corn 🌽 fields are in full bloom.

Awesome staff at the gift shop. He gave us a great recommendation for where to eat. We had a great time playing baseball even though it was cold. It was worth the trip

I can't explain the vibes I got, when visiting.
A truly spiritual experience, for me, and I haven't pinpointed why, yet.
You must meet Al, who was out there, tending to the infield.
He's been a staple there for 33 years, and shared with me that he's picked up the title, Godfather Al.
A wonderful man, he was.
This place is a must do, in my book.
Joe C — Google review
Absolutely awesome!! My wife and I started to get excited on that memorable drive up (the one where you see all the headlights headed towards the field) to the property. This place screams the spirit of baseball in a gentle way. Standing in the corn and then walking out gave me the chills. From sitting in the stand looking out over the iconic field to standing by the memory filled front porch swing, it was an amazing experience. Just reminded me of simpler times before we became so wrapped up technology.
The gift shop and food stand were also very cool. Have a beer with Ray! Also, the additional stores and museums in town are worth a visit as well.
Dan Weber — Google review
If you are a baseball fan, or just a fan of the movie, this place is a must stop. I would have stayed all day If I had the time. Do take the house tour, book in advance, it is interesting. Played ball with some total strangers, such a great enviroment. Everyone is there because they love baseball. Felt like a kid again.
Nestled in the picturesque countryside just 10 miles outside of Dubuque, Park Farm Winery is a delightful hidden gem offering a warm welcome and beautifully decorated main dining room for wine tasting. My family and I had a great time at this winery. It has the most stunning views from all levels of the building and property. But the best view is all the way at the top looking out over the valley. They have great wines that will please any palette from very dry to very sweet. They have wine flights and great pizzas to compliment.

Fantastic red wines and an excellent 06 Frontenac!! Pizza is so tasty and fresh.
Bring to your attention the bird droppings all over the back deck and tables. Power washer in the morning will do the trick.

We were in the area for a fall leaf "tour." I think we were about a week early as there was still quite a bit of green.
We got a couple of flights for tasting - Nothing really stood out for us, but wines were good. We'll have to plan on coming back to try some more.
We got the carnivore pizza and the Margherita. Both were excellent! Wish they delivered!

Who knew a winery would have such great pizza! Wood fired and tasty . Crust was crisp but chewy. The views here are amazing and the wine was great , we bought several bottles to take home. If we are in the area we will be back for sure . Great date spot as well !

Park Farm Winery is a hidden gem found in the beautiful countryside 10 miles outside of Dubuque. Kristen, greeted us with a smile and bubbling personality. We enjoyed wine tasting in the main dining room on the first floor which was welcoming and beautifully decorated. We were then escorted up to the third floor where a room for about 10 to 12 people awaited us. The view of the vineyard was spectacular with the rolling hills bustling up to Farm land. The "wood fired" Pizzas were delicious along with the wine. I will be back for some delicious wine, food, and music this summer. Highly recommend checking this gem out!

Very nice winery set in a beautiful location just outside of Doubouqe. Really enjoyed the drive and scenery on the drive there. Huge outdoor and indoor seating areas. Really enjoyed our pizza and wine tasting. Loved their sweet reds and fruit wines.
Would suggest a larger tasting area. I felt rushed and the staff looked overwhelmed. People who were already seated came to the tasting area for beverages and it gets really crowded. Otherwise a great spot!

What a special spot overlooking a peaceful Iowa river valley. We're here at the first of October as the fall colors are starting to come in. Positively beautiful. The wines and fire grilled pizzas are a wonderful blend to sit out on the back deck and take in the scenery.
For$5 you can tour the entire 3 floors of the museum. Plus you get a free beer at the bar, which would cost you$4.50 otherwise. They have lots of different displays which change about every 8 months. Very cool, well worth a visit.

I have taken a few brewery tours, but the museum is different. Although not exceptionally large, there is an excellent collection of advertising, marketing items (foam scrapers), and historical photos. The museum showcases more than just the Potosi Brewery.
Sufficient parking.

Handicap friendly.

My family and a group of close friends all traveled about an hour and half to Potosi on Labor Day. The place was packed with people at the front door and the hostess told us an hour wait before we would be seated. Even though they had open seats in the bar area and outside. We waited outside for about 40 minutes only to find out they where not seating anyone. The hostess kept telling us it would be another 20-30 minutes. Finally, my wife got an answer from the hostess explaining she was told to not seat anyone due to the kitchen being backed up with orders.
In other words they had zero help and no control of the restaurant. They could of been honest and turned us away at the door instead of wasting our time.
It is really sad, I live about an hour and half away and am always willing to travel to the Potosi brewery for the food, beer, and the museum.
After this experience I will not be returning.

Fun experience learned a lot about the Brewing process. The tour guide was a little misinformed. You said that the brewery closed in 1972 to send the corn in the wheat overseas for the war effort. I don't remember Vietnam receiving any corn or wheat from Wisconsin. The brewery was awesome they showed us every aspect of the Brewing process from the cooking of the mall the Hops to the brewing and the shipping
The Fenelon Place Elevator Company operates a funicular railway connecting 4th Street & Fenelon Place in downtown Dubuque. The railway is a popular tourist attraction, with views of the cityscape from its upper station. It was built in 1893 and is powered by counterbalance.
Such a fun little experience when visiting Dubuque! The view from the top is beautiful! They accept cash only, so come prepared.

Really enjoyed going and checking out this place. It said it is the world's shortest and steepest, so when I found this, I had to go and ride it. It was worth the 4 dollar round trip. I rode it from the top down and checked out the shops at the bottom.

Fun little tourist stop, worth the time if you like the views of Dubuque. Would probably be even more beautiful when the leaves change. Check the dates of operation, and they only accept cash.
Chris Myers — Google review
The funicular is a fun way to get from top to bottom of the hill. The ice cream shop at the bottom of the hill is also worth the stop for good treats and cute decorations.
Scenic view from the top and the old time feel of the elevator make this a notable stop while visiting Dubuque

Such a neat experience in Dubuque with wonderful views at the top!
The trolley is open air, so if it is rainy or cold, or potentially if you have really small children, it may make sense to wait.
Really neat to see it in action and ride to the top. And the fares are extremely reasonable (fyi - pay booth is at the top)!

Very beautiful views and a wonderful experience! Do yourself a favor and start at the bottom. Look for Sweet Memories Ice cream shop. There is no public restroom at the lookout point. Be aware they only accept cash. No cards.

Looking for something different to do on a Sunday afternoon, we packed up the “Twenty-Paws” in the PupBus and headed to Dubuque. A somewhat scenic, hilly drive from Cedar Rapids and only about an hour away and we were there. The Fenelon Elevator Company. I had never heard of it, but my husband had been there many times as a child. (About 50 years ago). Since it was so late in the season, (we went the Sunday in November) we were able to park on the street right next to the station and there was no waiting to get on board. The round trip fare was $4, and you can board from the top or bottom of the hill. The ride is not long, but quite steep. The videos are not shot in slow motion. Since the staff was not too busy, she shared a little history with us before we left. Very friendly! Fun little adventure. Something you could do with the family. Open April to November.

They trolly ride is a historic site. The project started in 1882. If you arrive at the trolly station on the top of the hill which is the south gate, you will have a very good view of the Mississippi River and Illinois and Wisconsin in addition to the two bridges that connect Iowa to those two states.
The trolley itself is two dollars For one-way ride and four dollars for round-trip. The trolly car has limited seats— 4 to 6 people can fit comfortably inside it. It travels slow. There’s some wildflowers on the path down the hill but it is mostly grass and trees.
It would have been nice if there were more flowers on the path down the hill.

Very cool experience. Would give five stars, but we used the address listed on Google and it gave us the address to the top. Lots of searching and searching we never did find the address to start below, which is what we wanted to do. Another couple there experienced the same thing. Overall, would definitely go again.

Great views! We parked at the bottom of the hill and took a round trip. It's cash only. The little cabins are very cute. It was a nice, slow ride.

Great experience. We loved learning about the history of the elevator. Parking was fairly easy, and the shops around it were fun, too.

I love this elevator! It’s cash only but only $8 for 1 adult and 2 kids. It’s a pretty short ride but is super fun.
Brittany I — Google review
It was so cool. I am so glad I did it it was kind of scary when you leave to go down the hill. Even got a picture of the elf. 4.00 dollars round trip we'll worth it.

A cool little cable car. The view from the top is very pretty. It was a nice stop on our way through the area.
Jen Zaets — Google review
We drove to the top station parked up and took the elevator for a round trip just so we could say we had been on it.
From the top there's some good views over the city with a platform for photo shoots.
We then went and got some shots of the elevator from down the street.
The ride only takes a couple of minutes but it's a good novelty ride grand kids loved it.
The step into the car at the top may bother some people and due to the angle of the car the steps to the seat are quite high.
The fare is cheap so just go and do it.

SUPER cool experience! I didn't know this was here but GLAD we found it! This one-of-a-kind ride up the hill was absolutely worth the wait in line! We got a GREAT view of the city and had fun meeting some new people in the process! I definitely recommended doing this if ever in the Dubuque area!

$4 round trip ride on this historic funicular, located in Dubuque. The attraction holds significance for my family and we’ve been visiting regularly for over 30 years. Hope the 4th Street elevator is around for many years to come.

Unique rail elevator. $2.00 one way or &4.00 round trip. Uses 2 elevators that run in tandem. As one goes down, the other goes up. The middle rail is shared except where it's critical that the cars collide. Very steep. The view at the top is amazing.
There may be a line but the wait isn't too long. You can start the rail from top or bottom. Payment is made at the top.
Henry Eicher — Google review
The lady who has worked on both of my visits is super nice! The view is beautiful. The ride itself is smooth. Having gone both ways (starting at the top vs. base), I would recommend riding top to base and then walking around the little shops and even the downtown shops a couple blocks away. Even if just for a ride, do it! $4 round trip can't be beat!

Had a wonderful time!
We were traveling through Dubuque, and discovered the Funicular on a painting. A quick Google search helped us find it's location.
The trip takes 3 minutes up and another 3 minutes down the hill. Slow, pleasant, no stress, and the views from the top are fantastic!
There is a wonderful shopping area surrounding the lower end of the Funicular. Unfortunately, we were on a time schedule, so did not have time to enjoy that area.
There is an interesting story about its history, and past owners. Be sure to ask for info!
The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is an attraction located on the waterfront in Dubuque, Iowa that combines a history museum, science center and state-of-the-art aquarium. The aquarium has a variety of habitats which allows guests to experience different aspects of ocean and freshwater life. The location is perfect for weddings since it offers a fun atmosphere combined with everything the museum and aquarium have to offer.
Fun for the whole family great place buy the year pass saves money for Multiple trips. There's another larger building where you can feed the stingrays. New exhibit featuring otters! Huge aquariums great hands activities & educational fun. They have a huge metal workshop that was used to build boat engines over a 100 years old that still works. They have a craft room featuring 3-D printers

INCREDIBLE PLACE!!! We (two people in their mid-20s) spent almost 4 hours there. With kids you could easily spend more. MANY hands-on science activities, animals to see, and PLENTY to learn about. Staff INCREDIBLY knowledgeable with questions. A FANTASTIC place to spend a morning :)
Abbie Chronister — Google review
Great museum. Two buildings, both two floors and both have aquariums. Loved the touch pools for sting rays and one for starfish, and sea cucumbers. There was also an outdoor section for a wet land exhibit and birds. They also had a large boat that you could explore. Lots of information and interactive exhibits it's. All staff we meet was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend bringing quarters outdoor pond to feed the fish.

We loved it! We enjoy walking through the museum, petting the stray fish, learning of the Mississippi River history, it’s beginning and the development of the area around it. Really great experience for me and family
Jenn James — Google review
Great place for the family! So much to see and do. The museum and aquarium is very interesting. It’s two separate buildings and an outside part. My daughter really enjoyed coming here. Our favorite part was the aquarium/seeing the fish.

Lots to see, inside and out. I personally loved the historical, natural history, environmental displays. My kids really had fun with the interactive displays, and of course the stingrays. Be prepared to have your kids get wet!
Most of saltwater area was closed when we were there, unfortunately, so I can't comment on that.
From their website, and view from the parking lot I actually thought it would have even more to see and do. But there is plenty the way it is.
Cost is fairly high in my opinion, but I'm a cheapskate. No worse than going to a movie, or out to eat for a family. They need to pay the bills too, and you're supporting an educational gem in the process.
They periodically have traveling displays that visit to add to the amount you can see and do.
We would definitely go again!

Amazing science, natural history, and history museum. Excellent. I've had the privilege to visit the big museums in DC, New York, Chicago and elsewhere, and the Mississippi River Museum punches well above its weight for an establishment located in a small out-of-the-way city. The quality, variety, depth, and curation of all parts of the museum and its grounds are excellent. Well worth the trip!
Joshua Clements — Google review
Great way to spend the day! Our group all had fun (kids aged 3, 6 & 15 + adults) with plenty to explore in each area. The aquarium tanks in both buildings were the favorite of all. The STEM labs had truly engaging & fun activities and the water table was a nice play break.
The space is beautifully designed and easy indoor outdoor transition- seemed very wheelchair/stroller friendly.
Don’t miss checking out what’s on board the William M. Black 🛳️ we had fun talking about what life on a boat would be like
Pleasantly surprised at cafe offering and gift shop 🛍️ The entire staff was kind and welcoming and the space was clean. Despite going on a Summer Saturday and it was busy, it didn’t feel crowded.
We will be back again!

Will definitely not get tired of visiting aquariums! Staffs are very approachable and knowledgeable! One of the best aquarium I’ve been too, great service! Their stingrays are very social as well and we definitely enjoy it! They have a large area as well and another building so there’s really too much to see!
Pam Rama — Google review
Great museum and aquarium. There were a lot of interactive visits for my 2 and 4 yo I clouding two different water tables. There was a free makers space with basic art supplies and a bunch of interesting 3-d printers which were not available for use but neat to see and an informative employee was there to answer questions. Lots of cool animals to see including otters, alligators, snakes, an eel, fish, and raptors. We were there for 2 hours and there was still more to see. We skipped over most of the more adult stuff but there was planeta to read and learn for a more mature audience.
Jamie Rogalla Lyons — Google review
We loved our experience! So much to see and do for all ages. Our kids (5 and 3) had a blast. A lot of educational, interactive and live animals to enjoy. Highly recommend. We can't wait to visit again and check out the 4D theater and pet the sting rays.
Sarah Pittner — Google review
Buy tickets in advance and save a couple of dollars to use in their cafe. So much to do and see and touch. This is a real hands-on educational gem. We've been here many times and every time there is something new to explore, and older to re-explore The stingray touch and see tank is always a delight. Be gentle and the stingrays will come back for more touches. The cozy IMax like film theater allows everyone a phenomenal seat. The (at least 3D) films are worth the slight extra cost... Especially film #2 when purchased together with film #1. Marvelously they can both be 4D!! Films change frequently and they're always interesting and educational. Visit both indoor sides and it's outdoor middle. History and the future come alive behind every door and the information might be presented by a person, video, computer, well designed display or some other way. Additionally we met Tom and Becky there. They are wonderful to watch; however, you have to go to know how well they are doing what they otter.
Charles Morrison — Google review
Great place for all ages!! Very large complex, and you have the opportunity to see it over 2 days included in the price of admission. Pet the rays, see the fish, tour the riverboats, see a short 4D film, and explore some science themed exhibits.
Jason Ellis — Google review
The River Museum was not only very educational but all very interactive. As soon as you walk in you’re greeted by the nice attendants in the front. They inform you where certain exhibits are located and what’s located in the other building (as this place is HUGE) . For any pressed penny collectors out there , there is one machine in the main building and one in the second. The second building contains all the salt water fish along with the child play area. My favorite was the otter and the sting rays. On their website they have a live camera to view the otter from 8am- 5 pm along
with a live camera to view the Mississippi River. Definitely recommend for all to visit.
Marisol Munoz — Google review
A smaller aquarium but still very enjoyable. I loved the otter, the octopus, and the raptures! The boat museum was an added bonus. Even though we went on the day there were many little kids dressed for Halloween, we still enjoyed ourselves. We were able to see everything. The added Halloween decor and band playing made it extra fun!

Great place to go. My kids LOVE petting the sting rays and the sea anemones. There used to be another play area upstairs I thought but I don’t know what happened to it. Your ticket is a 2 day pass, my kids only spent about 2 hours there before they were ready to leave. I have a 6 year old and 8 year old. The boat was put away for the season so that usually takes about 30 minutes and they were too cold to go to the marsh area. But they had a lot of fun. We went the next day to pet the stingrays again and play in the kid area. We were also members with out zoo so we were able to get a discount!

Great place to visit grand kids loved it, indoor and outdoor bits to visit. Outdoor you can wander round the dock and explore the old dredging paddle steamer. Indoors there's the aquarium with fish, alligators touch pools, displays on the Mississippi and it's flood plains. There's a kids discovery area with pools too play in, with an activity room.
There's a old line shaft driven machine shop with lathes, planner, grinding and polishing wheels radial drill. In the second building there's more of the story of the Mississippi it's captain's and the natives.
There a restaurant with a good clean bathroom.
A good gift shop with a good range of bits and bobs.
There's offers on the entry prices depending on the mix of the group visiting we got two seniors, two adults and one child in for 109.75 adults are 23.95 seniors 21.95 youth 17.95 under 3 are free

Nice reward system for new players card. Love getting the mailed monthly specials, too many emails to actually look. I like it in writing. Easy parking. Friendly staff. Self serve pop and coffee. I didn't see very many cocktail servers, but I wasn't there very long. A couple different options for food. As long as you can get past the smoke, it's a decent casino.

Overally pretty good! The biggest drawback was the smoking which you can smell basically everywhere (except the tiny non-smoking area).
They had a lot of machines, table games, and free soda/water. They also had an area for sports betting. Would love to come back if only I could leave without smelling like an ashtray.

I love this place. They have bowling here also on the third floor. They are kind of slow when trying to order food and drinks, dew to them being under staff. But you will love this place. If you're here, please check out their sky deck it's a beautiful site during the spring and summer months.

It says no smoking on the doors, but there is definitely smoking inside. It is a casino. I recommend it...I'd had given Diamond Jo a better review if I won any money- kidding, the smoke give it a 4 vs 5. There are a variety of games, both machines and tables- penny slots to high rollers area! It is an easy and safe walk from Hotel Julien and the immediate surrounding area.

We were looking forward to two evenings at this casino. We couldn't stand another minute due to the smoke. It was so disappointing that the no smoking section was like a closet. We need a shower! Boyd Rewards staff was excellent, very friendly, and helpful. One even put off taking a break so my wife and I could both get signed up quickly. Casino is clean and very well maintained. My only complaint is that the cocktail waitress went by the blackjack table so fast I didn't even have time to blurt out an order.

We came for a comedy show. The only complaint I had was the chairs were put together side by side so we had no arm room. Good thing comedy shows aren't too long or would have been extremely uncomfortable. They really pack you in there.

Being a local girl, I may be considered a regular, since I visit "the Jo" for a variety of reasons.
We saw the Mavericks in the Moon Bar on my birthday, among other big name bands and local favorites as well, over the years.
The Filament restaurant is the only venue open late enough for the cast and crew of our theater company to grab a bite to eat after a show.
I've played my fair share of slots while visiting the Jo, as well, and can reasonably estimate that I've won more cash than I've spent here in total.
I once had a medical emergency that required quick response and I'm grateful to be able to say the staff and attending employees performed far and above what anyone could expect, in the prompt care I was given. Thank you again for prioritizing your guests and attending to their needs in such a kind yet professional manner.
I would be inclined to agree with anyone who says the Diamond Jo never disappoints when it comes to premier entertainment event centers.
This 164-acre park features tri-state & Mississippi River views, plus playgrounds & a band shell.
Beautiful park, well worth the $1 entrance fee. Got to see a raft of barges go thru Lock 11. Clean restrooms. A fine place place for a picnic with great views. Playgrounds, tennis courts, party pavilions. Award winning landscaping.

This is a great park, but I didn't see any reviews that indicated the changes in the winter. Google maps navigated me down to the locks and said I could walk up to Eagle Point. Once I arrived, I could tell that certainly wasn't going to happen, and I had to use the satellite view to figure out how to get myself to the real park. Once I arrived there, I found the gates were locked, apparently they do this in the winter. There is no parking where they lock the gate at the bottom, but using Google satellite view again, I was able to find another parking area further to the North next to a residential area. My guess is the "residents" don't like the traffic and have moved the pin to make it more difficult for citizens to visit. I can't say I blame them. But the park is very beautiful and worth a walk-around in the winter, with good views down to the Mississippi, locks, and boat/train traffic. I hope I can come back in the spring to see this when it is truly alive again.

This is a great place to walk around and have a picnic. They have a variety of shelters that you can pick from. You can reserve the shelters. They have a little pond with Fish koi also called curb. They have a little area that sprays water for small children to get cooled off. They have a number of playgrounds and they also have tennis courts. There is also a bike/walk path from the main road all the way up to the top to Eagle point Park. It cost one dollar to drive into the park.

I had no idea I was headed to a park, I was just looking to get to higher ground for a photo. We came across this park entrance and decided to go in. The cost is a simple $1.00 fee. Driving up we noticed how nice the park actually is. We drove up to what is considered a lookout point. What a beautiful view from here. Very happy its a clear day and that we could take in the views. Plenty of parking, picnic shelters and restrooms available. Enjoyed about an hour watching the birds, boats, people and just admiring the views. It's also know for Eagle Watching which by the way the buzzards are flying around your going to get some great up close views of these eagles.

Quaint museum in a stately Italianate mansion with exhibits on Ulysses S. Grant & the Civil War.
Great museum, this is also part of the Grant museum. For sure a must see if you are in town and visiting Gelena and the Grant home. They have a book you can buy that highlights parts of its past and shows its current photo and location.

There is a ton to see here!! The most famous painting of when the Civil War ended is here and it's massive!!! There is a neat holographic movie before you get to wander around the museum!!! The gift store is full of really cool stuff!! A fair warning though-- to get to certain parts, there's flights of stairs and they're a bit steep (that's just how the houses from that time period were made though). The staff is wonderful and if you can do the stairs, the paintings are all up there!! Worth the price of admission!!!

If you enjoy museums, this is a must-see museum located in Galena, Illinois and it is very kindly staffed by volunteers from the Historical Society. We were able to visit the museum during the 85th anniversary celebration of the museum opening which was a special weekend where attendees were able to explore the secrets of the museum with some very cool behind-the-scenes tours. The volunteers that run this museum are top-notch and we found that they were very knowledgeable and so open to sharing their knowledge with visitors. Although the museum is packed with many treasures, we were thrilled to be able to see the 9'x12' "Peace in Union" painting which depicts Lee's surrender to General Grant. Thank you to the volunteers for all they do to maintain this museum, document, add new items, prepare exhibits, etc. In the future, the museum will move to a new, modern building in Galena.

Absolutely loved this place! This is a small museum in downtown on Bench street which stores Galena's history, some civil war history and President Grant and his wife's memories. The house itself is old, has fine Italian marble fireplace and framework. Museum stores President Grant's world tour and Civil war memories as a General. Additionally it has a separate room dedicated to baseball history and a miniature mine open for the public to see. In the front room which used to be Grant's living room, has a really old map of Galena printed in 1854 on the wall. The view of Bench street from the window is relaxing.

Beautiful museum that has a lot of information about president Grant. Was well kept and had some unique aspects that are just not available anywhere else. The mine shaft while not as interactive as expected was really cool to see regardless. The small little gift shop is also pretty cool with unique little objects. Nice staff there. They offer some really cool technologically advanced exhibits. The small radio controlled steamboat, the ghost introduction the video pieces on the first and second floor. Really cool, a must see museum.

The Ulysses S. Grant Home is a historic mansion built in 1859 which was given to President Ulysses S. Grant. The home features original furnishings, including chairs and tables that were used by the General and his family, making the history of the home come alive. Visitors can take guided tours led by knowledgeable guides who are passionate about the history of the Grant family and their home.
It really helps to understand more about Grant as a person. One gets the impression that he was a homebody. The house is very well kept. The guide was well informed and answered all the questions.

The tour is free but donations are recommended. Tours run about every 10 to 15 mins. You wait on the porch for a guide to get you. You can take all the photos you want. About 90 percent of the items in the home are original to the Grant family. Plenty of parking.
When you are done here head downtown to see an amazing Main street that looks like a movie set from the old days and then head to the Grant/Galena museum. There is a charge as it is separate from the Grant home but very much worth visiting.

Our tour guide was awesome, very informative, was a nice step back in time. So glad Galena appreciates it's history and preserves it so well, and teaches the generations of now the glorious history of then. Thank you for having us and educating us on your rich history! All of Galena was a pleasant experience, Grant House was our favorite stop of all. Check it out and see for yourself! You won't regret it, just kind the back stairs of the Grant House, I feel for whoever had to frequent those stairs they're a dandy.

It's so rare that a historic home still has the original furnishings, but that's what you find in the Grant Home. Yes, the General sat in those chairs. Yes, the family gathered at that table. It makes history so real.
Our very knowledgeable tour guide, Katherine, displayed a real passion for the home, the Grant family, and their history. I highly recommend this stop on your next visit to Galena.

If you're a history buff. This is a must see. There's a lot of great history here. All of the tour guides are great. You can tell that they're really passionate about the history of this home. It's just a really nice place to visit. Make sure to bring cash, because they have some cool things you can purchase.

Great history this house is in the middle of a neighborhood that you would never expect that a US president lived there. Guide was very knowledgeable and learned a great deal. Need less than 30 minutes to see the entire thing. Great way to stretch your legs out on a ling trip. You don't need to buy a ticket but a $5 donation is suggested money goes towards the up keep.

This was a place that I had seen mentioned for years but had never visited. I am glad that I waited as they have added air conditioning to the property! The entry cost is by donation and the suggested amount is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about everything Grant! I learned so much more about our 18th president during this visit. It is truly amazing how people were able to operate without the amenities that we enjoy today and I truly respect the Grant's even more for foregoing slaves!

I had an absolutely awesome time here the other day while there was all the snow blowing in. The tour guide was beyond informative and had just the amount of dry historian humor I always look for and can appreciate. It was a pleasure being able to tour the Grant home, and I recommend it to anyone visiting Galena to stop by and look at everything in the house. I especially loved being able to see it all decked out for Christmas.

Learned so much from this tour, which was partially guided and partially self-guided. Our tour guide was friendly and very knowledgable!
The home was relatively small, but ornate, and featured over 90% original items. The grounds are lovely and also offer a great view of the historic downtown.
The house is up on a hill so walking/going up a few flights of steps may be needed.

A cool (as in, both interesting and air conditioned!) visit on a hot summer day. The tour is informative but doesn't overload you with too much information. It's a well maintained and carefully preserved historical gem of the area. There are steep stairs, so be aware if you have mobility issues. Free entry but remember to donate!

The pride and joy of Galena, Illinois! This location is definitely worth a visit. I’d recommend taking the tour of the home. The tour takes you around the inside of the entire house and you can see important items/rooms of the ex-president. The tour guides are incredible at their job and invite curiosity. The tour is free, but they do expect a donation. You can wait at the front door and up to 15 minutes for the tour to start. Afterwards, you can walk around the grounds and see other artifacts and buildings.

Excellent tour ! Only takes about 20-30 minutes and is really cool to peek into the past and learn the History of the 18th President and family. Its free but there is a suggested donation box… however they do not accept cards so if you want to donate or buy any souvenirs bring cash 💰

Excellent stop while in Galena. The history told by the tour guides is great and only takes about 15 minutes. Our kids loved it too seeing all the antique furniture and way houses were furnished back then. Grant was a fascinating person and anyone who likes history should make this a stop. Runs completely on donations.

A very interesting historical stop. The Grant Home grounds have several buildings to see, including a general store that you can peek inside. The Grant Home has a beautiful view. Our tour guide was very kind and knowledgeable and patient with questions from children. He shared so much information. The house is fascinating. The grounds are clean and in good repair.
Great tour, Bar, and social area. Their Whisky, Gin, Vodka, and Rum are all excellent. Definitely a must stop if you’re coming to Galena!

Fantastic place. We went about 2 hours before close. Not a lot of people in there but enough to have fun. We sat at the bar and were promptly greeted by Lexy. We perused the menu and I ordered a smoked old fashioned. My wife didn’t know what to have and Lexy suggested a cocktail that she liked. Both drinks were amazing. It was definitely the best old fashioned I’ve ever had. I then wanted to try their gin, and Lexy suggested 50 shades of your mom. Lexy wins again. Smelled EXACTLY like a lemon shake-up. Tasted so good I limited myself to one because I think I could have tried to drink 30 of them. The .5 oz flights of spirits are great for sampling without committing to one you may not like (but they’re all great so that won’t happen) We had an awesome time chatting at the bar with Lexy and I absolutely would come back here again!

Stopped in here with a group of friends on my wife's birthday weekend. To say the least this place didn't disappoint. Delicious drinks served by both knowledgeable and attentive bartenders for an affordable price. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and quick to answer any question we may had. Our battender explained the drinks in question and offered advice in regards wo which ones we'd probably like based on our normal drinking habits. We all tried several different drinks and even came up with a few of our own. My absolute favorite though was one that was made with their very own Hellfyre Vodka and blood orange... We all had such a good time and we're already planning a return trip in the near future.

Blaum Bros. has amazing beverages. Each one I tried was very good. I was pleasantly surprised by the Hellfyre vodka- it wasn’t one I would have tried if I had been given it on the tour and I ended up loving it. Dennis the tour guide was great! He was informative and friendly. I appreciate that kids are welcome. Mark the cat was a hit on the tour. The signature drinks at the bar were delicious. The facility is clean and very nice.

Fantastic cocktails and a tour to boot! The tour guide is incredibly knowledgeable about spirits, and history of spirits which added a nice touch to our experience. Samples at the end!
We enjoyed a couple rounds from the cocktail menu, and nothing disappointed. Highly recommend just about everything in the menu. One in our party stated it was the "best damn chocolate martini she's ever had ".

Wow what a place! I had never been to a distillery before so I’m glad my husband suggested a tour of this gem while visiting Galena. All of the staff were extremely friendly and kind and helpful. Our tour guide was great and gave information and a very fun way. I had zero idea going in how any booze was distilled and when I left I understood the process of the things that they distilled!
Needless to say the things that we tasted at the end are not my cup of tea so I cannot say whether or not their alcohol is great from a personal standpoint, but so many of the people were commenting how excellent things were and my husband told me his drinks were smooth and flavorful. I love the story of how the distillery came to be. I definitely think that you should check this place out if you are ever in the area!
Museum with tours of the Bevans Lead Mine as it was in 1845, with rides in a 1931 mine train.
We stopped in on our way to another destination. The exhibit is very nicely put together. There are many stairs DOWN and obviously back UP from the mine. You will be required to wear hard hat. The tour was nice. The guide was very knowledgeable the only issue is she has a naturally quiet voice so it was hard to hear stuff with the size of our group. There are restrooms in main lobby. Some snacks and drinks in gift center.

Awesome!! We had a personal experience with the owner and got to know the place first hand and the history!! Couldn't be more appreciative of the atmosphere (felt like a cabin the Gatlinburg) while enjoying some of the finest wines in the area! Strong and simple! To the point! The bottling is cool too! Kinda felt like the Roadhouse of wineries and we enjoyed every second! Even got toe peep some of the fish the family caught together growing up! We really appreciate owners and families like this and hope everyone can see through the same lens as we do when they visit!!

I visited this winery as part of my tour though the Upper Mississippi River Valley with one other person. This winery uses only wine from it’s own vineyard, which is why I chose it.
It seems to be run by the owner, Kyle, and his son who ran out to greet us as we parked. Other people have commented that the winery seems understaffed. Personally, I find the father-son duo endearing.
On average, the wines were excellent. A few that stood out were (by my subjective opinion): The Hillside Rose, which drinks like chocolate port, but at a much lower alcohol percentage. Wild Turkey Blush, which opens sweet and finishes with a delightful contrasting savory pepper taste. White Tail, which I highly recommend for people who are trying to develop a taste for Rieslings.
Also, they had a variety of grape that I had never encountered before, Léon Millot, I’m not sure if it’s particularly uncommon but I haven’t seen it before so I was excited to get a bottle to share with friends.
I was given a glass to use along with the small cups for my tasting. I would recommend asking for an empty glass if one is not provided, I’m sure they’ll be happy to oblige since it only servers to better bring out the excellent quality of their wine. I left with a case.
The owner is very passionate about his wine, he showed a great interest in listening to our thoughts on the wine and sharing the stories of his wines and vinyard, which me and my companion greatly appreciated.
I highly recommend this winery. If you’re newer to wine, the staff if very helpful with recommendations. If you’re already a connoisseur you’ll appreciated the terroir that these wines offer.

It is odd that this is listed as a hotel. This is a winery.
We stopped here because we love visiting local wineries. Truly some of the worst wine we've ever had. Odd flavors, vinegar-like, etc. What's worse, we sampled some and thought it was okay - but when we got home, our experience was entirely different. And no, we didn't let the wine get overheated in the car or anything like that.
Not worth the trip.

What a surprising experience! I'm swinging back around, after more than a year after having been at Rocky Waters Vinery and can still say 'You must go.' Take the time and breathe in this exquisite corner of the earth they've captured. We were there in the off-season and, as such, our gathering of our children plus the new son-in-law got to enjoy the soaring lodge-like setting of the tasting room in peace. I've been to a lot of wineries, including those in the Sonoma area and have never seen a setting that can compare. You won't find a more awe-inspiring view in the area. The charcuterie boards are a delicious pairing to the wines which must have been worthy, as we headed home with a case. While it was too cold to be outside, we had lovely views out the large windows, of the valley laid out below. If in the area and you are at all inclined toward wine, you simply must go. ~Two Heads Consulting

A fun vineyard near our home for the week, camping at the Palisades.
We came in on a quiet Monday, and were welcomed once they realized we had come in. A lot of fun, playing with the offerings, and that there were not too many people in house at the time.
We tried a flight of wines, choosing some for both me and my wife. Very nice wines, with the Homestead Red being my favorite, and my wife enjoying the Highland Blush and the mulled spice slush! I concur on the slushy. ;-)
We also tried (something like) Vineyard bread tray, which was amazing! Very tasty, and a wonderful pairing with the wines we tasted.

Jared and Phyllis are wonderful people. Made us feel very welcome and gave us an absolutely fantastic selection of wines for tasting. We ended up walking out with half a case and plans to return in less than 2 months. Thank you so much!!!!

So disappointing. I love wineries, the pictures online is why we made the trip up this place. The wine we tasted was all terrible. They all tasted the same. I would say the wine tasted more like hard liquor more than it did wine. The flight we got was served in small plastic cups (condiment cups) and it was 12 dollars for the sample!. Much more expensive than most wineries with less quality and less wine. The place was small , outside had a nice view , inside very little seating options and the stool are very uncomfortable. I have been to many wineries and did a lot of tastings over the years and this place is def not where you'd want to go to taste wine.
Would not go back again.

Mark Lakanen — Google review
We stopped here after visiting another winery on the way in and have to say compared to our first this was a bit disappointing. It seemed the owners were a bit preoccupied and or understaffed. We often ask what are the best sellers at any winery, as all have their best sellers, as a place to start. It was as if we had insulted her as she then pointed out that all of their wines are award winning and they don't offer any that aren't good. Funny thing, we didn't ask what was good but what were some crowd favorites.
We ordered a cheese tray, which was delicious and the pepper jam was amazing. We also had two flights, several of which we enjoyed. The gentleman who came around was very personable and did make us feel a bit better about the experience.
All in all it was okay, but we really enjoy a more inviting and warm experience, especially since we were the only ones there for quite a while.
PS: if you are a dog lover they have two of the cutest well behaved pooches!
Lovely Wisconsin Historical Society site. It's a Cornish mining settlement from the 1800s (one of the mines is across the street and you can walk the trails). In the 1930s two men bought and preserved many of the buildings. Admission price gets you a guided tour..ours lasted about 45 minutes. There are a couple buildings you can visit on your own. Nice little gift shop as well. Bottled water is available to purchase and there is a drinking fountain by the restrooms too. Parking area is in a lot kitty corner to the site. The whole Mineral Point area is rich with history and there are so many beautiful historic buildings.

Well worth the $10 admission. Our guide told us wonderful stories of the area and historical buildings for an hour while going in and out of several historic buildings.

The small museum includes several small buildings centered around a former restaurant open ed by a couple of guys partially to save old buildings from mining times. We went for a tour, and the story about how a "startup" restaurant survived in the middle of nowhere is interesting, though there are no very special artifacts. There was a knowledgeable person in the group who asked questions and sometimes was giving answers more interesting than the guide, and it was a very big plus.

We visited on a Saturday in Sept 2022. The buildings are amazing! Made by the miners and masons in the area, and later restored by two visionary men, they are now open for visitors. The stonework is beautiful, and the upper buildings are rustic and historic. We were the only two folks on our tour, which was led by a friendly, personable, and knowledgeable young man -- he loved history and it really showed thru! Mineral Point has lot of other stuff to do, but this was the highlight for us. We are members of the Wisconsin State Historical Society, so admission was free. Recommended!

A beautiful and amazing place! Remember to practice Leave No Trace! It's not a trail, but it is a historical site that is proudly cared for by volunteers and employees alike. Loved this peaceful little place!
So many of the negative reviews give it one or two stars because there isn't enough to do here or the trails are too short, or the campground is too small etc. But I think that's the charm! You can camp here and not be on top of hundreds of other people like at most other state campgrounds you come across (here in Illinois or across the border in Wisconsin). It doesn't draw crowds because of its size, so you get to have the hiking trails and view points mostly, if not fully, to yourself.
I solo camped two nights and spent one day hiking the trails, taking pics, hanging out at the campfire, and reading down by the water. It was so very relaxing and quiet. I then used it as a base the next day and drove out to Mississippi Palisades. Glad I didn't camp there, it was crowded and passed lots of people on the trails! But a good distance for a drive from Apple River in the morning, with beautiful countryside in between.
Some other reviews mentioned that the trails were not marked and hard to find and to follow. Not true. Every trail has a big sign right at the entrance and very clear, paths. They can be a bit muddy and aren't covered in gravel or anything. But they are clear to follow and line right up with the maps they have at the office and that the camp host handed out.
All in all, 5 stars from me!

Great campsite! Sites were very private and somewhat secluded. There was a winding path between our campsite and that of our friends, so we had access but also privacy. The trails are steep in areas, so hiking is definitely "rugged." We'll visit again.

We did the Primrose trail, the River Route, and the Tower hill trail at the park. Each trail is about 1-1.5 miles where you turn around and backtrack the trail. The River Route was our favorite because of the view of the River, however each of the trails provided views of the river and had appealing walks through the forest and on high lookout spots. Trails are dog friendly, but rugged terrain in certain spots. Plenty of parking and beautiful views of the canyon and river.

The House on the Rock is a one-of-a-kind architectural gem that features a sprawling, Japanese-inspired home built into a massive 60-foot rock formation. Visitors will be amazed by the vast collection of unique exhibits and displays, including impressive robotics and other fascinating curiosities. The museum offers something for everyone, with its full-scale replicas and quirky items sure to keep visitors entertained for hours.
This is truly a once and a life time experience. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s weird, yes, but it’s unique and interesting. It’s a lot of walking, but I made it through with not many problems. As someone who has a hard time walking due to health problems it wasn’t too bad until the end. I was very tired as I went through the last few rooms but it was so worth it. My favorite exhibits were the heritage of the sea, the carousel, the tribute to nostalgia, and the music of yesterday. We also met some cool and nice people during our time there :) If you are staying in the area overnight I recommend the House on the Rock Resort. It’s beautiful, nice rooms, and a cute little gift shop. We stayed 2 nights and visited some cool shops and enjoyed the nature and scenery. This was an amazing experience.

This is such a unique place to visit, both the home and the other buildings. The original house is full of interesting architecture and a mix of interior design elements I haven't seen combined like this anywhere else.
The other sections host a variety of collections, giant automated musical performance displays, whimsical scenery, and a lot of near-magical surprises. Like my personal favorite since I was little, the indoor carousel.
If you want to see all three sections arrive at least 3 hours before closing time.

This was one of the coolest experiences of my life. I went in with expectations and they were blown away within the first hour. I went on a weekend and while it was busy I definitely didn't feel like I was waiting/navigating around people. Definitely not a friendly place for wheel-bound persons as some areas are straight up inaccessible without using the stairs. I was offered coins in the beginning but I declined because the lady just described them as 'music boxes' when in reality some of the operated entire automaton rooms so that was disappointing, although it appears that multiple did not work anyways. The place is well kept and while some areas have an odor I feel like the overall state of the place fits the atmosphere. It feels antique but lived in and loved. I will definitely come back many more time. The gift shop hardly has anything that relates to the location, and what they do have isn't very attractive/well made.

When walking into this home turned attraction, you are greeted by a man with devil horns. This is by no means what to expect in your experience here. The house was absolutely amazing, how well it all flowed and yet still had a lot of craziness from a creative mind. I could only imagine what it would have been like back in it's early years to actually be a party guest here and see how all of the spaces and rooms were actually used.
Very fun experience, will most likely return or at least recommend it for something to do.

This was my second trip to The House on The Rock. I consider it a must-see attraction and I'm not one for tourist attractions. No words or photos can explain the magnitude of the impact this place will have. I have been telling people about it for years after having seen it the first time and my partner and I have discussed it for hours on end since visiting this last time. Couple of got tips: she's dark, musty and dusty so don't head out there expecting pristine museum vibes. This is not kid- friendly due to it being a HUGE place that takes at minimum 3 hours to get through- the kids we saw were bored and running around like crazy for entertainment. Definitely plan to buy $3-5 worth of tokens- the musical contraptions are worth the spend.

Hadn't been here since I was 12yrs old now I'm well in my late 50's, but by far the carousel is still my favorite. The room with the long view was cool as well. I also enjoyed all the playing instruments and the mechanics behind them, super cool. If you haven't been here it is definitely a must see! Lots of history as well. You may even see a toy you had as a child or recognize during your era.

A must see. So many amazing robitcs. Huge displays. A full house within a rock. This place is amazing best kept secret. Museum of unique items and displays. Could spend hours in this place. Small cafeteria in the middle with great pizza.

Great place to check out with lots of unique items and things all collected and put in one location for everyone to see. Highlights of the trip would probably include the whale, the carousel, the infinity room,(provided you don't mind heights) the Japanese garden, as well as other rooms with many treasures to be seen, and it is even worth your while to check out the bathrooms on your way though as some have hidden treasures as well that are easily missed. Only bad thing is a very large museum and requires a lot of walking, so plan on almost a full day on your feet if you want to see it all!

The house on the rock is still a cool interesting place to visit. I used to go as a kid and have fond memories.
So many cool automated instruments! This is fun to watch.. you can't help but wonder how they did it. My kids had fun sitting on all the fuzzy couches and benches.
The gallery with the whale and giant octopus is pretty fantastic. We enjoyed the gardens. they aren't super large which the kids appreciated.
All in all a pretty good time. We bought the ultimate pass online and spent between 4 and 5 hours there. The place is full of curiosities and collections so get ready to see thousands of objects!
There is a place to eat in the middle. My kids liked the hot dogs but would not eat the pizza. It's food but not the best. Next thing I will try to have a big meal first.
Two critiques:
Take this for what it is but some of the items seem like they do not get the maintenance they require or have collected so much dust. A few times we used tokens and things were partially our completely broken.
There are a number of culturally insensitive items.. and pretty appropriative displays. I was finding myself explaining these things to my kids a lot.. even the use of whale bones and ivory. I think we are at a point in history where this deserves recognition. But I do appreciate talking about those things with my little people.

One of the coolest experiences ever! We spent 4 1/2 hours walking through the whole thing, because there was so much to look at. I was in awe with all of the collections and art pieces, and plan on going back to see things I missed! It was fascinating talking to the workers to further the learning of the history of the buildings. Everyone was very kind and the scenery was fabulous.

Pretty cool place. Make sure you leave enough time. Lots of walking: ramps, stairs, narrow passageways. What a fascinating collection. Carousel is not rideable, just so your kids aren't disappointed like mine were!
Carolyn Cianfarani — Google review
Amazing collection of eccentric things from doll houses to guns to a car covered in tile. There are musical exhibits that play all on their own and the 2 story carousel was fantastic. Some of the rooms are 3 stories high with walls of collections all neatly housed and displayed. The amount of time and effort is amazing. The doll houses all have little lights in them so you can see everything inside. The sheer size of some of the displays is just incredible. It took about 3 hours to walk through the entire place. Once you’ve completed the walk through you can spend some time in the Japanese garden too.

This place is the best place to go visit in the whole United States if you want to see some interesting and wild collections.
I went I was a teenager about 30 years ago and couldn't wait to go back as an adult! I felt like a kid again and was excited about the instruments that play on their own.
For about $35.00 to see this huge collection is well worth the price.
I look at this attraction like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory 🏭.
You don't be disappointed!

Always one of my favorites. Definitely a must see. Can take 2 hours or longer to walk through depending on your pace. Little ice cream and pizza parlor about half way through. First section of the original home is not wheelchair accessible, other 2 sections are. A lot of ramps and some can be steep.

This place is so amazing! I went when I was a kid and finally got to bring my kids. It's a lit of walking but you can have food and drinks on the premises. And there are lots of benches and rest stops. It is a must see place!

I don’t know where to start…fortunately you will because there’s plenty of signage! Amazing place, a must see when in the area. By far the most interesting attraction in Wisconsin! Just be sure to give yourself at least 6 hours to see and enjoy. There are a few cafe areas, one was open, which is nice since we were 3 hours in and only halfway through. Definitely take your time, soak it all in!

If you ever have a chance to visit, I highly recommend it. My mind is seriously blown by the eclectic collections that are housed in this place.
Plan to spend the entire day because there’s so much to see!!
Wear comfy shoes as you’ll do lots of walking!! It gets pretty warm inside and it’s a little dark.
Pictures don’t do it justice but you can find plenty online. Be sure and peek inside the bathrooms - they have interesting stuff too! And get several tokens to use throughout.
If you enjoy oddities and excess, this is a place you need to go!

The House on the Rock is a "must see" for any eclectic/vintage collector at heart! The complete tour included the whole property that took at least 3.5 hours which I highly recommend! Make sure you get tokens to play the music anamatronics throughout the property!

This is truly an amazing and weird place! I am glad we went as an outing with my Dad who had never been although he has lived in WI for over 50 years. There are things to know before going: it is very cold (and I am rarely cold) so bring a sweater or jacket. Also it is a lot of walking, ramps and steps. My father had a hard time of it (being 80+) and we missed a lot of the house trying to find the fastest way out. Even as they point you to the fastest way out you have to do a lot of walking on ramps that wind around (Ada compliance maybe) so it still takes another 15
Min of walking to exit. Knee replacements, hip replacements, or just weak cardio vascular systems will make this a less fun experience for some. It was for me as I was worried about my Dad. Also the only hot beverage they serve in the cafe is really bad hot chocolate. No coffee or cider or tea. I wanted to give this 5 stars but I can’t for the reasons above. Maybe you could do the house in two separate days. There is certainly enough to see!

We have been here before but this was our first time coming when it has been decorated for Christmas. Definitely worth the visit. A bit bummed sections are closed during the Christmas experience, but it's not like they don't tell you that in advance. Really fun how much the place is changed with so many Christmas decorations everywhere!

2 words...HOLY COW! This place is unbelievable and mind boggling! A stop on a road trip my son and I took in 2022. There aren't enough words to explain this place! It IS a must see to believe! There is an unbelievable amount of things to see here that it is likely you won't see everything! They were not kidding on the website when they said the tour could take up to 4 hours! We made it in about 3 hours because we were absolutely exhausted from visiting Devil's Lake State Park just a few hours earlier! This place is magnificent and so very worth every penny to tour it! The endless sights are overwhelming to a point and you kinda leave the place stunned! Don't get me wrong, this IS good! You wanna leave with this buzz of excitement thinking, "what did I just do" or "what did I just see?" The whole experience is just that...an experience! It is definitely one you should! This place is a treasure to the man who helped create it, Alex Jordan! There are plenty of pics online so I'm only going to show a few but seeing is believing! You got to see this place! A great family outing!

Wow! What a unique crazy fun place! You could spend all day checking out the artifacts and enjoying the beautiful area. There's something in the house for everyone. Some rooms are creepy, some are calming and some are funny. Be prepared for lots of walking but there are ample places to sit and rest.
All the staff is super friendly and helpful!

We visited this place for our daughters 12 birthday. I was very worried that my kids would think this place was boring...boy was I wrong. This is one of the few places I have ever visited where there is so much to see and something for everyone.
We spent about 4 hours in the location (I take a lot of photos and videos). This gave us about the right time to take everything in.
The staff was so amazing. They explained the history, the items, and made sure we knew where we were going the whole time.
The House on the Rock feels like you are really inside the imagination of the builder and you leave with so many things to talk about.
The little food area was decent for a quick bite to keep us going with the basics of pizza, hot dogs, and nachos. With the limited time in the attraction the speed of the food was helpful.
I would highly recommend putting this on your bucket list.

This is worth a visit if you’re in the area or you just want to have a day trip. It’s about $36 if you want to do the ultimate experience in the regular season. I went during the regular season. There are 3 sections plus the Japanese garden. They also have a place inside if you want to grab food. It’s a huge collection of different items. You’ll see a giant sea creature, a carousel with 20,000 lights and 269 animals, and an infinity room. Plan to spend 3.5-4 hrs here if you want to look at everything. It was busy not crowded.

This place exceeded all my expectations .
It is marvelous and impressive in its gigantic size .The museum is incomparably superb and unique. I advise everyone to visit it if possible and open new horizons of their versatile vision.
The ticket costs 38$
The time for inspection is not less than 4 hours.
In a relaxed state 5-6 hours.
This is an unforgettable emotion and the feeling that you are in a movie of fiction.

This was my first visit to The House on The Rock. We were there for the Christmas Experience. This place is very interesting. You never know what you'll see. It's also pretty creepy at times, so be forewarned. Additionally, if you're not a fan of old things and buildings, this is not the place for you. It's like a creepy old grandma house times 1000. It smells old, too. It's worth visiting at least once, because you'll likely never see anything like it again

What a wonderful place. Everyone there was so friendly and knowledgeable. We took our children (age4,6,&8) there and they loved watching the video of how cheese is made start to finish. They loved being able to see the actual workers making the cheese through the windows. The best part was they allowed us to try the cheese curds we just watched them finish making. My kids were so impressed by the “squeaky” cheese. It was Such a fun experience for the whole family. The woman we spoke to was so knowledgeable, patient and informative. We sampled several varieties and my kids loved all of them. Thank you for a great experience!

Taliesin Preservation: Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center

Variety of tours highlighting Wright’s Wisconsin works including Taliesin Estate & Hillside Studio.
As a huge frank Lloyd Wright fan, this was an amazing experience. Attention to detail to say the least. Frank Lloyd Wright left nothing to Chance or normalcy. He believed in bringing the outdoors in no matter where you are in the building. We had the rare opportunity to see the architectural school as due to Covid the students are only in Taliesin West this year. A rare treat that I welcomed.

We had a wonderful experience. My husband and I booked the 2 hour highlights tour on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. The visitor center is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. Our tour guide, Christine, was very friendly and super informative. We loved the architecture and history of Taliesin. We now feel compelled to finally visit Robie House in Chicago (where we're from) as we've known about Robie House for decades but sadly never visited. This tour is a gem and I highly recommend the experience.

Love this place. Such an amazing area. We did the highlights tour which started and ended on time. Our tour guide was great, very informative tour and was able to answer everyone’s questions. I’ve been to 10+ FLW properties and this one needs more work than others, but it is always nice to see and experience the architecture.

Our tour guide Taryn was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. She was great in giving us insights, in telling us stories about FLW, thoughts behind the design, etc., Great experience overall and inspiring architecture.

We took the two hour highlights tour. Our guide was good. For my taste, we spent a little too long at the school of architecture, the house itself was excellent. Definitely had some engineering issues, it burned down twice, but it was really cool to see the different rooms. You can actually sit in the living room. It’s the only place you’re allowed to touch any of the furniture. Again very interesting spaces. I think it was a good tour for newbies and Frank Loyd Wright buffs alike. I am the former. The tour starts at the visitor center, which was actually designed by Frank Loyd Wright as well, but completed after his death. The restaurant was closed for the season. It was early august
T-roy Sierra — Google review
As stated on their site, Taliesin is the home, studio, school and 800 acre estate of Frank Lloyd Wright. A few years ago, we found the 2-hour Highlights Tour was informative and just the right amount of time to spend outdoors during a muggy, hot summer day. At the time, we were fortunate to see the Delightful Theater which is closed for renovation through 2021. This year, we went back to revisit the walking trails open to the public and walked to the Unity Chapel, Wright's earliest work where he designed the interior of the chapel at age 18. Whilst the exterior is open to the public, you may only view the interior by signing up for a tour. The tours were sold out so it's advisable to book in advance. It also appears that masks are required if participating in a tour or if you wish to go inside the visitors center, whether vaccinated or not.

We did the Estate tour, worth every penny. Our guide Spencer was great! And my 13 year old enjoyed it too. This is a must do experience!
Monica Zatarski — Google review
We enjoyed the two hour tour of the estate that included visiting the architectural school, Frank Lloyd Wright's house, and a drive through the countryside that is part of the estate. The tour guide was excellent as she was able to effectively communicate history of the buildings and the life of Frank Lloyd Wright, including answering all the questions asked. The grounds are well kept but you can see that the buildings still need some work to be brought back to their original condition. This is definitely a worthwhile tour, if you have 2 hours. If not, there is a 1 hour tour that just visits the main house. There is also a 4 hour tour that gets you in to see all of the buildings on the estate. We were also able to drive a short distance after the tour to see where Frank Lloyd Wright was originally buried (Unity Chapel cemetery) and the Wyoming Valley School that he designed. Next time that we are back we will be going on the 4 hour tour.

I took the full, 4 hour, estate tour on May 2, 2023. It was an outstanding experience. Our tour leader was very well informed, personable, and enthusiastic. The tour included a good deal of walking over some uneven ground, hills, and gravel. I would call it moderate effort - and I am 60, with one artificial knee. I highly recommend this tour to those who enjoy the great outdoors and have a high degree of interest in Frank Lloyd Wright's work and his life in general. Taliesin is absolutely beautiful. I had great fun. Go!

Taliesin is a beautiful monument to a man and the people in his life. It's testimony to the power of purpose and vision. FLW changed so much in the world we live in and it's fascinating to get a glimpse into his life and the way he lived. I especially recommend this if you are a fan of mid century design, modern art, or architecture.

A truly amazing experience. to sit outdoors at the hill theatre. The picnic areas where clean and quaint, the food and drink selections where great. This was by far the best performance. You will not be disappointed. From
The moment you step out of your car you are invited to another time and place. The grounds are a beautiful place to shed your day to day concerns and have a picnic as plain or fancy as you please. You can even order a picnic right from APT. Don’t over indulge though because now you’ll either take a short easy hike to the Touchstone (indoor) theatre or the theatre up the hill. In either case you will see the most beautiful craftsmanship and artistry. From the wigs on their heads to the detail of the insides of a purse every detail has been paid attention to so that you can focus on the story. Even if Shakespeare “isn’t your thing” it is here at APT because these highly trained actors know how to use the language so you WILL understand. The music, lights, and scenery are the structure that the storytelling is being told upon and it doesn’t overshadow the story. Plan for weather, wet rags are a life saver on a humid night, a blanket and a warm hat on a cool evening. This is a magical place that you won’t regret visiting.

Stellar! Beautiful night! Picnic with friends was fabulous! If you love a good comedy, don't miss this! You don't have to be a Shakespeare buff to enjoy this production. A romping comedy is putting it mildly... what a fantastic cast and performance!!! David Daniels as Falstaff gives a whole new meaning to "sexy"! Other comedic performances by Jim Devita (what an up-do), Josh Krause (he can sing???), Kelsey Brennan, Tracy Michelle Arnold (think who-ville hair), Marcus Truscinski, Jim Ridge, DeeDee Beeaft, and Nate Burger are over the top! Thank you APT for your continued devotion to making the classics accessible to all!

Magical and a nice goal for a weekend get-away! Classic plays performed by A+ Acting. (Shakespeare included) For outdoors it is acoustically sound and quite pleasant! Crickets and Whip-poor-wills accompany nighttime performances.
Arrive hour or so early and bring a picnic/bottle of wine to enjoy with a peaceful background. (Sometimes local musicians picking celtic tunes); they have dozens of tables and even some grills. Some tables located in woods while others in meadows. They even provide bug spray if needed. Natural landscaping lends to a cozy-casual feel. Then a lovely, warmly lit stroll up the hill to the outdoor theater . (They also have a smaller indoor theater with different performances)
Intermission has sales of drinks and snacks. Plenty of restrooms and lines moves quickly.
If walking uphill isnt possible they also offer a bus/trolly up. Quite nice for our friends who cannot walk with us.

Wow this place is incredible! Not too far from Madison. They have a little shop to buy gifts and a stand for food and drinks. The outdoor theatre itself is beautiful. It’s set in the woods. A must go to if you’re near Madison in the summer! I saw Sense and Sensibility at around 7:30pm on a weekday(great time to go if you don’t mind staying up a bit late). The evening is a wonderful time to see a play since it’s not too hot and the coolness of the evening makes things more enjoyable:) bug spray provided. Very wheelchair accessible (take the bus and they will drop you right off at the theatre).

Excellent performance with quality acting, choreography, singing, dancing, and directing. I saw two performances in the past two nights (Our Town and Merry Wives of Windsor). The APT actors do Shakespeare so well that it makes it easier to understand the play. Tomorrow night I am seeing Romeo and Juliet and from what I am told it is done with a twist as Romeo is deaf. Can't wait to see it! I have seen plays at both Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon and at APT in Spring Green and I have learned to appreciate Shakespeare's plays when they are performed by exceptional actors.
1-hour guided tours are offered of this cave with stalactites & stalagmites, plus a souvenir shop.
An exceptional cave, displaying the earthly wonder world and teaching us the geological and evolution history.
It’s thrilling to walk in a relatively large cave. Display boards and the stationed staff provide more educational insights !
Don’t forget to see the colorful display of the “time machine and transformation of various minerals” while in the dark.
An educational exhibit, no the geological history, for the entire family.
Good approach roads and plenty of car parking at the facility.

It was a beautiful setting. A few different hiking trails with beautiful scenery as well. They make it fun with little scavenger hunts you can do and all of it is self-paced. You may have to get creative in entertaining yourself if you're trying to stay there for more than an hour to hour and a half as there is not much to do other than the cave and the gift shop. Still worth the trip because the cave was beautiful! I love that they had workers stationed throughout the cave and giving the guests little tidbits of information. Especially the freedom to walk past if you were not interested or to stay and get more insight.

Excellent experience, very fun and instructive. You will learn or recall your knowledge about different kinds of rocks, minerals, and more. My favorite part... experiencing almost absolute darkness and then the fluorescent minerals. Don't forget to bring or rent an UV flashing.... for sure you will be one of the coolest in the excursion and everyone will try to stay close to you.... 70 feet under ground temperature is very stable.... bring a light jacket, or you will be sweating.... If you have a young kid (my son is 2)... there are tons of stairs and wet, so it will be slippery. The entire tour is around 30 minutes.

My first cave, was a very pretty cave. I highly recommend getting a black light and a bag, worth it in my opinion. This is the teeny-tiny version of Carlsbad Caverns. If you've never, ever seen a cave, then go here. The guide we had was informative, but couldn't answer all my questions, one of which was do you go permanently blind if you come out of a cave after getting cave-blindness. Which you supposedly get after being in a pitch-black cave for an extended period of time. Does that last forever? He didn't know, but I hope he finds out so the next person who asks will get an answer. The tour is pretty short, less than an hour. You do get interrupted by other groups going past, and you do hear other guides talking when you're trying to listen to your guide, but again, this is a teeny-tiny version of a huge cave, so I guess it's to be expected. The grounds are beautiful, the hillside garden is pretty, and the beer garden is very pleasant. If you have seen a huge cave, skip this. If you have kids under 15 that you need to entertain, go here.

We were the only ones on the tour, probably because it was in the 20s today and the Monday after Thanksgiving. Plan your visit on a day when it's not busy. That's the best! So cool! And the stories and history are really interesting. Definitely worth the visit!

We went on a day when lots of families were there on spring break, but the staged entry times kept it from getting crowded in the cave. The new visitor center was nice, although it seems as though they have yet to move most of their operations there.
I have been in some spectacular caves, so this was not as impressive as I have seen, but it was very well lit and developed. It was both intimate and spacious.

This was a fun experience that is worth a day trip for! We went on a cold and rainy day, which prevented us from having a picnic and hiking around the park like we originally planned, but the cave was tons of fun and still made the trip worth it. This place is super cool. Literally! There's so much to do one could plan a day trip. Parents can sit in the beer garden as the kids go sift rocks or play in the gardens. Well-managed, clean, and educational. The guides are polite and knowledgeable and the bathrooms easily accessible.
The tours are spaced apart and self-paced. The cave is quite cool (we visited in summer) and a sweatshirt was pleasant. The cave is well-lit and the paved path is even and easy to traverse.
There are some narrow points and places where taller folks might need to tilt their heads down. I had a few brushes with anxiety, and I would not bring anyone with more than mild claustrophobia down. There are some large areas at the beginning of the tour that should be fine for those who don't love enclosed spaces, and it is very easy to turn back if you start feeling overwhelmed.
Wear shoes you're comfortable traversing wet concrete in. The cave gets pretty wet as you go deeper.
If underground isn't for you, there are some nice above ground trails for easy walks and some lovely gardens planted around the buildings. Botany nerds will rejoice in the variety and the rock-inclined will have a variety of geode displays and the standard rock shop to poke through.

First ever experience visting a cave and this cave didn't disappoint. We visited as a family with young kids and everyone loved it. The staff members are present at various points inside the cave to answer any questions or share cool facts. All staff was very friendly and the gift shop is also great. Parking was not a problem at all.

Fun and educational half day experience right here in Wisconsin! Go down 70 feet and back in time 100 million years to see some earth level history up close and personal. Please be aware there are a few tight spots and a lot of stairs as you navigate the cave's twists and turns. Fantastic and affordable gift shop with all kinds of cool geological stuff too.

Very cool place to take the whole family! They have black lights available and you can see some areas in the cave glowing. The scenery is just beautiful. There's a cute gift shop and relaxing beer garden. We bought one of the treasure buckets and you are able to sift through the sand to find your own treasures. My kids are 4 and 5 and they had so much fun exploring the cave and then finding goodies afterward.

I took my 5 year old nephew here today and we had SO MUCH FUN. Our tour guide, Chris, was fantastic. He was super knowledgeable, friendly and great with the kiddos. Renting the UV Flashlight was the best investment, my nephew loved that.
My nephew loved the little “mining station” they have out front. I got him a $15 bag of sand with gems and he had a blast sifting through it to get all of the gems. He could have done that all day.

Last time I visited the cave was in the sixties. It's changed since. It's an easy self guided tour or with a tour. Excellent gift shop too. I'm knocking one star due that the entry fee is a tad steep for a roughly 45 minute tour of the cave, that really not that huge compared to other caves I've visited. But for a Wisconsin cave, it's worth the visit.

This is one of the smaller caves I’ve been in. Tour is short but I did enjoy seeing everything. This is a short drive if you want to get away from Wisconsin Dells for a bit. I took off a star because $22 is kind of pricey for such a short experience. I’m sure people know this but it’s actually warmer in the caves than it is outside especially when it’s winter. They have a small souvenir shop if you want to pick up something. Tour guide was informative and knowledgeable.

I love these caves. Great tour and excellent guides that answer questions and have fun. The new visitor center is looking great. The beer garden and surrounding activities are fun. The Christmas lights are on display and look cool. When you take the tour rent the the blacklight it adds to the fun of the tour.

Very amazing . Bought a large dirt bucket for my son to pan for gems . 50 dollars but hey my son loves looking for this stuff he had fun . Bucket is probably your best buy if you have several kids. They have smaller bags too.

Fantastic cave tour. Informative and friendly guide (Abe) on our tour. We had a great time with the family going through here. Would definitely recommend, well worth the price of admission in my opinion! Thank you for the excellent tour Abe!

When we got there we were moved to a different time 30 minutes away because of our large group.
It was a very fun experience and I enjoyed looking at all of the different types of stones and different other materials, I got a lot of different photos without being rushed.
Got a container of rocks, strawberry soda, a large stuffed bat, a star crystal, and a medium bat I got earlier before we went in and the guy at the cashier was really nice. He taped up the container of rocks for us and he told us about people who said the strawberry soda tasted like strawberriy or cherry pie. We named the medium bat Larry after the cashier we had.

Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern is a historic establishment that has been serving customers since 1931. It offers a delightful combination of a cheese and specialty food shop along with a charming tavern where visitors can enjoy local beers and pub-style meals. The cozy interior features wooden booths, while the outdoor patio provides an ideal setting for enjoying cold beer during the summer months. The tavern is renowned for its wide selection of gourmet cheeses, which are featured in their popular rye bread sandwiches.
Stopped in to try their new menu item of burgers which we've heard so many positive things about. Delicious! Hand formed patties, served with Mrs Mike's potato chips, and several selections of what I call uniquely named beers to go with your meal! Definitely a win! Great service as always!

A portal back to 1940 depression era Midwest. Similar to the "No Fuss" sandwiches that your grandma would be serving up any weekday lunch. Scratches an itch that I didn't know I had. If you are anywhere in the area, make a point to stop.

Nice and cozy tavern known for their wide selection of cheese. The place is known for rye bread sandwiches pack with gourmet cheese and deli of choice. Which pair perfectly with their award winning chilies! Also don’t miss out on the mustard honey that they have in a squeeze bottle on the table, a true game changer!
The atmosphere indoors interior is cozy with wooden booths, while the outdoor patio is perfect for cold beer in the summer.
Additionally you can also just walk up to the counter and buy the locally made cheeses as well. The staff was super friendly when I asked her to cut the limburger log, rewrap them and pack it separately for me!

Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern is Wisconsin’s oldest cheese store, opened in 1931. They serve excellent food and have a great selection of beers, including locally brewed. They claim to have the best cheese sandwiches in the world. I can’t vouch for that but the pastrami sandwich was top notch! The staff was great, very knowledgeable about the beer and food especially the various cheeses and pairings.

Best Reuben I’ve ever had. Service was fast and friendly. I was there for a quick lunch break, self seated, server was at the table almost immediately, ordered a Reuben and a Coke, server was right back with the coke, by the time I poured it out of the can and took the first few sips my sandwich was at the table. The sandwich itself was superb, topped with the excellent service, I’d definitely recommend checking this place out. I live more than an hour away and will be coming back just to visit this gem.

I had this saved on my bucket list to try because the Limburger sandwich, I want sure if I ever would make it until I traveled for work and realized I was only 2 hours away. I had to go, I did and it was fantastic! I was early in the day so way before the lunch rush but that sandwich was something I wish we had in North Carolina! I will for sure be back when I’m in the area or even driving distance. Next time I will try some other things.

An amazing cheese experience ..
Visiting from Texas! We know Wisconsin has legendary cheese and was on a mission to find some .. we found it in Baumgartner's
A friend recommended this place and we were not disappointed. The service was good but the food was great.
I can't say enough about our food .. good cheese is so satisfying. It was a cold day in January 2023 we had the tomatoes basil bisque warm thick and tasty. Tuna melt topped with slice of tomatoes and cheddar, pastrami and Swiss on rye served with extra cheese and a pickle 😋
Its an awesome atmosphere serving awesome food . We highly recommend 👌

A kitschy Wisconsin institution! Truthfully this is a glorified bar but it’s certainly a unique institution. The beer selection is good, featuring about 20 rotating taps, featuring Wisconsin breweries. They also had a decent selection of non-alcoholic beers (although that may have been supplemented for dry January). The menu is simple, featuring “room-temperature sandwiches” (their words!) with Wisconsin cheeses and meats. They also have several daily soups. The real selling-point is the ambiance. The walls are covered in interesting artwork, the chairs are handmade and the environment is cozy. If you want a great Wisconsin experience, this is a top destination and won’t disappoint!

Excellent food and service. Ample street parking on the square. Very good selection of cheeses for sale.
Nice staff. Great place to learn about the history of the people of New Glaris area and their struggles in a new country. Pretty cool. Handicapped parking, building access and rest rooms. Plenty to see as you walk about. Took about and hour and a bit more. Very clean and well kept. Fee was 10 per adult. I think children are cheaper.

If you're looking for a glimpse into Switzerland's history and culture without leaving the Midwest, the Swiss Historical Village Museum in New Glarus, Wisconsin is a must-visit. This charming features over 20 historic buildings that have been relocated and restored. From the moment you arrive, you feel transported back in time. Highlights include the 1890 Swiss Reformed Church, an original log cabin from 1845, and the 1910 Heitzig Bed and Breakfast where you can see what a period lodging house was like.
Wander along the cobblestone paths past artifacts like an 1890s telegraph machine and 19th century printing press. There are so many fascinating details around every corner. The Kundert Cheese Factory is especially interesting to see the antique cheesemaking equipment. You can also explore the 1890 one-room schoolhouse. The on-site Heritage Shop is also great for finding unique Swiss-inspired gifts and souvenirs. The guides are available for those who want to learn more about the history of the Swiss immigrants in the Midwest, and they are extremely knowledgeable and personable. Whether you have an hour or a whole afternoon, I'd highly recommend adding the museum to your New Glarus itinerary!

The Swiss Historical Village is a unique opportunity to learn about the settlers in New Glarus, WI through a self-guided walking tour.
New Glarus or the Swiss Colony was established in 1885 by the people emigrating from Canton Glarus, Switzerland 🇨🇭.
This village has both original and replica buildings. The tools, buggies, fire trucks and cheese kettle are original to the area. In fact the cheese factory will be making cheese again in October as part of Octoberfest.
Craft brewery featuring a tasting room, gifts, self-guided tours & reservation-only hard hat tours.
This is one of the best breweries we have ever visited. The buildings are so beautiful with the Swiss theme. The outside tasting area is so relaxing, & beautiful! You good stay there all day and enjoy the great tasting beer while relaxing & enjoying nature. Clean & beautiful. Looking forward when they can be fully open on the weekends for more people to enjoy. Fun brewery to tour and a great gift shop. Unfortunately they are currently not open on the weekends. The beer garden is really nice. You have to buy tickets for beers. They have some common stuff on tap but also some you don't see often. With your first beer you get a souvenir glass and a drink token for one of the fun local bars so if you plan on stopping in town it's a great deal.

Gorgeous property, with a great experience!
Self guided tour was really great with plenty of information to make it a great experience. There’s a video about the entire history of the brewery, the family, and how “Spotted Cow” came to be. ADA accessible. Plenty of restrooms so you can take your time and be casual on your time here. There’s a sampling area, where you can buy a 3 drink sampler, or your favorite pint. Went on Friday in February👍 Smaller crowd. Took the tour, our guide was very good and personable. Ate at their Bistro, was also very good. A soup and sandwich menu with options for wine and spirits. Also stopped by their distillery for a mixed drink. All in all was a great road trip ☺️

What an absolutely beautiful winery and distillery tucked away in Wisconsin. The facility was much larger than we expected and it was truly gorgeous. Well maintained and picture perfect. The wine tasting was wonderful, even the The tasting bar was a bit too crowded, our server Stacie was amazing and we truly enjoyed our time with her. The wines were superb and I truly enjoyed the variety. We purchased several bottles to go and enjoyed a glass on the upper patio. Staff were very friendly and kind. We walked into the distillery, but did not have time for a drink, but that is on our next visit as we look forward to returning. I highly recommend putting Wollersheim on your bucket lists when visiting Wisconsin.

This place is amazing! The food at the Bistro and the wine are not that expensive either! The parking spot is a little walk to the Bistro and Winery so you would need flats to walk on, specially if you are used to wearing high heels like me. When you order your food at the Bistro, they let you choose where to sit; we chose to sit outside by the "hobbit" house looking cave where they used to store wine back in the old days. If you decide to come here, your experience will be worth it!

We totally enjoyed our afternoon at Wollersheim. We started with a lovely lunch from the Bistro and a glass of wine. We then went to the distillery for delicious Old Fashions. The grounds are landscaped so lovely with a very relaxing atmosphere.

I would give 5 stars, except the wine tasting experience was so underwhelming. $10 for four 1oz pours in tiny glasses. You barely have a chance to experience the wine, and the tasting fee is not even comped when you buy something from the shop. It's definitely a better idea to buy a bottle and enjoy it outside. The grounds are beautiful. We had a wonderful experience at the Bistro. We got the pigs in a blanket for the kids, the Roma flatbread (which was more like a pizza), and the Frenchy sandwich. The food was good, and the service was fantastic! My son accidentally dropped the tray when carrying it back to our seat, and the sandwich hit the ground. They remade the sandwich and even brought a cookie! The Distillery was the last stop on our tour. All the drinks on the drink menu looked delicious, and it was really relaxing to grab a drink and sit on the patio. While this is no California wine tasting, the overall experience is very nice, and for those visiting Madison, it's a scenic 30 minute drive.

The winery is beautiful and continues to grow with an ever expanding selection wines and liquors at the distillery. The wine that we were able to taste is still wonderful. The selection of Brandy, Rye, and Absinthe were excellent.
Unfortunately they were not doing tours or showing their video of the history of the winery. My wife and I had been there many times but we brought a friend who had never been there before. After all we told her about the winery she had expected a little more. She did leave a little disappointed.

Very nice winery. Our family enjoyed our visit. There was one rude cashier. She scolded our 14 year old for walking upstairs, even though the sign said it was open to the public. We purchased 2 wine tastings and four bottles of wine. Very pretty flowers and nice grounds to walk and visit.

This visit to the winery was a failure on my behalf. Their hours are from 12:00 to 5:00 daily and we were just running behind on our trip. We did not get to have a tasting because it was 4:45 by the time we got there and the last tasting was at 4:30 however their landscaping and overall atmosphere was spectacular. We are definitely going to come back here another time but this time we will make sure we get here plenty early.

I recently visited Wollersheim Winery & Distillery and was thoroughly impressed. Tucked away in the scenic landscape, the winery exudes rustic charm and tranquility, making it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Madison.
The picturesque setting of rolling hills and lush vineyards immediately captivated me. The winery's commitment to maintaining a beautiful and natural environment is evident in every aspect of the property. The spirit room was our first stop, and it did not disappoint. While they offer a selection of spirits including brandy, gin, and rye, the standout for me was the bourbon. It offered a complexity and depth of flavor that was truly remarkable, with intricate notes that lingered delightfully on the palate.
After the spirit tasting, we headed to the terraced patio for a leisurely lunch. The patio offers a breathtaking view of the vineyards, creating a serene backdrop for our meal. The winery's commitment to farm-to-table cuisine was evident in every dish. Fresh, local ingredients were the stars, elevating simple dishes to culinary delights. Each bite was a celebration of the region's produce, perfectly complementing the selection of wines we tasted.
The wine tasting itself was an experience to cherish. The knowledgeable staff guided us through a selection of wines, each with its unique character and story.
Wollersheim Winery & Distillery is not just about the spirits and the food; it's about the experience as a whole. The staff are incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, eager to share their passion for winemaking and distilling. The grounds are meticulously cared for, inviting guests to stroll and explore.
In addition to the tastings, the winery offers tours, providing an insightful glimpse into the winemaking and distilling process. This added a layer of appreciation for the craftsmanship behind each bottle.
Wollersheim is certainly worth a stop for anyone in the Madison area seeking a serene and sensory retreat. Whether you're a connoisseur of fine spirits and wines or simply looking for a picturesque spot to unwind, this winery offers an exceptional experience.

Devil's Lake State Park is a vast recreational area that features a 360-acre lake, sandy beaches, campgrounds, and food stands. Visitors can enjoy scenic hikes around the lake on rocky paths or climb up for breathtaking views of the stunning blue-green waters. The park is also pet-friendly but requires dogs to be leashed at all times. In addition to outdoor activities, visitors can challenge their minds with riddle-solving in escape rooms located nearby.
A beautiful hike around the lake. One can hike low and follow the path through the rocks or you can climb up. We climbed up both sides and it was worth it. Fantastic views, gorgeous blue green water. Turkey vultures soaring overhead with a slight breeze. Had a picnic on a rock ledge over looking the lake. Dog friendly but you need to keep them on a leash

I was delighted to find a last minute tent site, actually there were multiple options on the day off to reserve. I got a late recommendation to explore this park while on a road trip and I fell in love. As a local said on the trails “best place in WI” and from what I was able to experience on my travels, I agree! What a gorgeous park. The campground was quiet and well maintained. Bathrooms were clean. Lake water was warm (mid August). I will be recommending this to anyone I know heading to WI. I am grateful to have been able to explore the trails and camp here.

Devil's Lake is the most popular State Park in Wisconsin for good reasons.
Want to circumnavigate a beautiful lake, you've got it. Climbing rocks on the West side, walk a railroad track on the East side, and the North and South side have beaches.
Want to swim? Two beaches, clear water, and motored boats allowed.
Hike on a National Scenic Trail? Part of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail passes through the Park. And the Ice Age Trail has no usage fee.
And make sure to set aside time to make use of the rest of the Park's other activities.
A great park in a great state!

Came here early Saturday morning and we found a great spot under a tree that had great shade. We BBQ and then went for a dip in the lake. The water was super clear that you could see small fish. We made the way to the trail to go up and see the balanced rock. We only made it half way because it is a difficult trail to do with smaller children. Next time I’ll make the trek with just my husband and I because the views are amazing!

Great place to recreate! Highly recommend showing up early. The Balanced Rock trail is a fantastic hike for the adventurous. Wear something with good traction, the rock/boulder terrain is slippery at times when its completely dry. Elevation gain is roughly 400-500ft over half mile. Take the time to stop and enjoy the views!

Devils lake is so beautiful! The trails are amazing! Some are easy some are really difficult the trail maps are marked as to which ones more challenging. The ones up the bluff will make you sweat quite a bit but the view is so worth it! Each trail has a something unique and special to be found along it. It’s so exciting! The photos you can take and the time you can spend at this park is extensive! It would take a whole weekend to experience it all. So if you’re going up for a day pick and choose what you most want to do, because time goes by quick when you’re handling this much fun! By the lake there’s kayak rental, canoe rental, paddle boat rental, swimming, a beautiful gift shop, ice cream, snacks, a bath house. Plus you can’t forget about the fact that they have a campground. That’s the best way to go if you’re gonna go all out is to come here and camp for a whole weekend or longer! I can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful park! I would recommend to be there no later that 9:00-10:00am since it gets packed! At least during holidays. It has a north and a south area for parking. I liked more the north area since we were with our dogs, and I found the south more hiking with heights!

It is possible to hike around the lake in a single day. It took us about 4 hours at a leisurely pace. Highly recommend starting from the south park area and taking the Grotto's Trail to the East Bluff Trail, walk across the North Shore Beach and take the Tumbled Rocks Trail and then back to the south park area. It was well worth the trip from the Chicago suburbs! Also, I recommend the Tumbled Rock Brewery and Kitchen afterwards. It's just north of the north park entrance.

Such a fun place to go! The beach is very nice, sandy, not a lot of rocks on the beach or in the water close to the shore. They have plenty of activities for a family to do, paddle boats, other rentals. Water is friendly warm and you can go out a good distance in the lake before you are fairly deep. Would definitely recommend if you want a lake experience!

My timing for this trip could not have been more perfect. The fall colors were in all their splendor. This is a short drive from Madison and has beautiful views, walking paths and yes a dog park as well. Worth the effort and highly recommend.

Wisconsin provides a lot of hidden gems that many outsiders wouldn't know of & Devil's Lake State Park is one of them. Devil's Lake is a perfect spot to spend your summer day. You have the options to relax by the water or hike up the mountain that overviews the lake. The trails themselves are well kept & the hike isn't too difficult even for those who are casual hikers. Once you get to the top, there are beautiful panoramic views of the lake in each direction. Devil's Lake is in a remote area so parking & traffic are challenges when visiting so I recommend arriving earlier rather than later. There is a large picnic area to dine which is well kept for the most part. If you're looking for a great way to spend at a park, I highly recommend considering Devil's Lake State Park!

Devil's Lake is a pretty amazing state park to have in the back yard of Madison. That being said I don't think I'd ever want to go there in the middle of peak season or on a weekend. Early April on a Monday was an amazing time to go. The trails were not too crowded and my wife and I easily managed to do a loop around the lake. The views were gorgeous and most of the trails were rather pleasant. That being said the southeast has some vertical rock step trails that are a bit more technical and would make me rather nervous with our small children and potentially our pre-teens (depending on their awareness-levels that day). However, as an adult I really enjoyed it, but am glad my wife and I went when we did, as we got to see everything without having to manage crowded trails. Definitely worth a visit, this gem of a park will not disappoint and offers some great hiking.

A beautiful park, which offers a variety of activities for all ages.
We hiked around the east trail, starting uphills from the east bluffs wood trail. The walk was really pleasant, on a comfortable path. We then passed through the devils hole and balanced rock and went down on the east bluffs trail, which was more challenging, but definitely worth the effort. The views from the mountain peaks were stunning, displaying a wild scenery of the huge rocks, woods and shiny lake. It is highly recommended!

My happy place.... I have been here an average of twice a year every year for over ten years. The lake is beautiful, the hiking is amazing and unique, the campsites are great if you know which to get.
The place is dog friendly but only kind of. There is only one beach that allows dogs and that beach is all rocks so make sure you have some water shoes.
Unfortunately over the years I've noticed more and more people leaving garbage everywhere... what is with this. There are garbage cans and dumpsters... use them! Oh and clean up after your dogs! I like laying on the grass!!

It's a great place to relax and enjoy nature alone or with family, friends & pets. The trails offer breathtaking views. You can bring your kayak, paddleboard, canoe, inflatable boat or other floatation devise and enjoy the crystal clear lake. There are plenty of picnic tables and charcoal grills throughout the picnic area. Get there early to secure a spot and parking because this a popular place and it fills up quickly. It's just a beautiful place.

The scenery of the park is very beautiful. If you go to the park in the morning, it will be better to go up the mountain from the east, because the sun rises from the east, and it will be better to take pictures like this. There are many parking lots in the park, and parking is very convenient, but the downside is that the parking lot is charged, but I didn't see an obvious notice of the fee, and there is no self-service payment machine in the parking lot. When I came down from the mountain, I found a payment slip posted on my car, but the payment cannot be settled immediately, and I need to go to a specific place to pay the fee. This is a very troublesome thing. It is hoped that the managers of the park can improve the charging problem, and it is best to install self-service payment machines in the parking lot.

Love hiking here! Many steps to view Balanced Rock and Devils Doorway from the South beach! You can hike from the North beach to view these but it will take longer! Recommend taking East Bluff trail there and East Bluff Woods trail back from the North beach! Get there early if you don't like crowds! 8am!

10 out of 10! Stopped here during a road trip with my son in 2022. Place was absolutely gorgeous! However, my son and I were not prepared for the climb ahead of us and worse...the climb down! Ok, not trying to spook anyone here! It's not a sheer cliff we were climbing. The trails are very easy to follow and clearly marked. However, we wanted to see the Balancing Rock and Devil's Doorway. Well, that trail is all up hill...literally! Not only is it all uphill but incorporates many, many stairs! The good news is, once you make it to the top, the trail levels out into a nice dirt road. Then, you walk that for a ways and you've made it! Oops, not quite! Now, you must descend the mountain down to the Balancing Rock. My knees were shot by this point but I was determined to make it there. We did and the view was incredible! We took our pictures and on to the Devil's Doorway. Another good distance away and unfortunately, we were running out of time on our schedule and had to turn back. Only way back is the way we came or the treacherous decent down the side of the mountain on make shift stairs created out of the rock shelf itself. The rock shelf was the quickest way down. It took about 35 minutes to the bottom, legs almost gave out dozens of times and we hustled the mile long walk back to the car! I'll say this, its a must for visiting but if you aren't an avid hiker or climber, you WILL be exhausted taking on this mountain! Be sure to pack a jug of water cause you will need it! However, there are other trails that go around the lake that are very easy to venture. A beautiful beach to swim or catch some rays. All kinds of picnic areas. Both public or private. A great big pavilion, if you prefer tables and the indoors. Plenty of bathroom access all over the park and plenty of parking. Keep in mind, this is a state park. So prices are higher if you're out of state. I picked up a WI park pass for the year. So we only had to pay to park. Come to Devil's Lake, its definitely worth it!

Easily my top favorite of Wisconsin State Parks. Love the length of trails and the elevation. Beautiful place with great views. We travel almost 3 hours here just for day trips. With stops to take in the view and getting ice cream at the North Shore in the summer, it takes us about 3-4 hours to complete a loop on various trails.

First time visiting with family! Trails and views were amazing, especially now that it's starting to warm up. Parked in the south lot, took the route up to devils doorway and balanced rock, then headed through the east bluff trail and tumbled rocks (got too tired for the west bluffs). Wish they had signs showing which bathrooms are open and more accessible water in the off-season.

Amazing hike! Fall is the perfect time to visit to see the vibrant colors of the turning leafs. We got really lucky with that, considering we visited second half of October.
The climb was a bit steep, but with a few rest breaks I made it up. Took me about 25-30 minutes.
The view was really beautiful, the skies were gray and the lighting for photos was just right.
The lake itself looked too manicured, that is too say, the edges drawn in a smooth line, which took away a bit from experiencing nature, but still a pleasure to look at.
Lots of big rocks at the top, where you could sit and snack, while looking down on the water.
There were many people when we were climbing up at about 11:30 am, and it got even busier when we were making our way back.
Lots of dogs and all seemed very friendly.

Spent the day at Devil's Lake with my boyfriend and our family yesterday, and it was a wonderful trip. We hiked to the top, and the view was absolutely breathtaking!
The park was very clean and well maintained. The restrooms were also clean. We used the picnic area by the south beach to eat and swim. The water was clean and cool but there were a lot of rocks so you have to be careful when getting in the water because it's a bit rough on your feet. Swim shoes recommended.
The Circus World Museum is a complex that showcases the history of circuses, with live performances held under a big-top tent. Visitors can explore original wintering grounds, restored circus wagons and exhibits on the Ringling Brothers and their collaboration with Barnum and Bailey. It's a must-see attraction for those interested in circus history, but plan to spend at least 4-5 hours if you want to catch a live performance.
We decided to stop from our drive from Madison to Montana. I have a found fascination with the circus so this was a treat. However, we did not get to stay for the actually circus, as we spent so much time enamored with the exhibits and got to the museum in the afternoon. It was fascinating to learn about The Ringling Brothers and how they combined with Barnum and Bailey. It has the original buildings of the wintering grounds, collection of restored circus wagons, and a extensive exhibit of circus history.
I would highly recommend stopping, but allow at least 4-5 hours if you want to see the actual circus. It will definitely bring out the kid in you.

A really great experience for the whole family, no matter what the age. The venue is laid out perfectly and has a nice flowing waterway with a bridge walkway connecting the museum to the big tents, etc... The big tents have shows, there is also pony rides, an very cool elephant ride. There are multiple area with food. The restored vintage circus car museum is amazing and you can even watch restoration of vintage circus items and cars. This was a great experience!

This place was way cooler than I was expecting, especially for adults! We spent about 4 hours exploring here. The history is really neat, and there are lots of memorabilia pieces you can touch and read about. The circus show was about an hour, and all of the performers were incredible. August is the last month to see the elephants, and we were told it was more crowded than normal because of that. We still had no problems getting into the show despite it being busier than normal. Appreciated that the circus was included in the admission cost. Highly recommend checking this out!

A must see! This place has an active circus act. I was amazed at the elephants and the performers. This was a show for all ages. My daughter of 4 was amazed at the girl hanging in the air. She practiced this after leaving for many weeks. The museum and attractions are all very interesting if you love the history of the circus or want to learn about it. I was impressed but was unable to give the time to the rest of the park. I will come again and spend most of a day here.

Truly an amazing place to spend an entire day with the family or just adults. Historic & educational but also fun & entertaining for under $20. Included: 2 live big top shows daily, plus outside trapeze & aerial motorcycle thrill show. My favorite: a hanger size bldg with hundreds of restored highly decorated & carved Circus wagons & a restoration workshop showing works in progress. Also restored Circus buildings. Circus paraphernalia, such as posters, elaborate costumes, equipment, & models. There is a 1/4 scale detailed miniature model of a complete rail circus set-up that is huge. Indoor theater shows circus documentaries. Everything is labeled & explained; could not possibly read everything. Food, drink, & treats are available on the grounds. Carousel, elephant, & pony rides; obligatory gift shop as well.
It is operated by the State Historical Society & is also a respected research resource.
Highly recommend visiting this place.

What a day!! What a wonderful, delightful day we had at Circus World! We had no idea what we were in store for and we were just enthralled more and more around every corner!
You enter through the museum and get a vast amount of history of the circus, not just Ringling Brothers. We learned so much about the evolution and history of the circus with all the displays. A lot of work has gone into the presentations in the museum, they are very thorough and rich. Once you go through the doors to the outside you are transported back in time to the circus of your childhood memories! From the elephants to the circus in the big top, the side show tent to the carousel, it was just one fun and childlike moment after another!
Our favorite part of Circus World was the carriage museum, it was jaw dropping!! We walked in the door to massive, ornate and beautifully restored carriages that once graced towns with their music, carvings, animals and performers. Imagining them parading through town brought smiles to our faces and music to our soul!
Circus World is magical and I highly recommend everyone add it to their bucket list!

Awesome experience! I loved the circus 🎪 that we saw and learning all the facts! We weren't allowed to video/photo the actual show but that's okay. They also had elephant, pony and train rides. My favorite acts in the show were the mother&son duo jugglers and the aerobatic show but the entire show was amazing 🙂 tickets were alittle pricey but I would definitely still go again.

It was well worth it. There was a lot of history and information. There was a great performance and park for the kids to play. The show was great the only thing that was extra was riding the elephants which both my girls did. All in All, an excellent end to our week long vacation.

Circus World is an excellent summer experience for a family. Entertainment, along with learning the history of the circus era in Wisconsin. The Big Top was fun, fast moving. We loved the fun and funny goat acts. Of course, the elephants were the stars. This is the last season with them in Baraboo. The Big Top will go up in the summer of 2024 with a full hour of family entertainment. During the off-season, the buildings are open for self touring. We loved our day at Circus World.

This place is super cool! Experience a real life circus under a real big top tent. That's not something you can really find these days. I love that the cost of the show was included with your ticket. Still one of the best historical sites in Wisconsin. Even better than usual on this day because of the car show (collectors showing their cars got in free - I rode there with my brother in his red Mustang). The workmanship in the circus wagons alone is worth the trip.

So much fun for the whole family, my senior mother, myself, and my seven and three year all loved it. The big top show was entertaining, and the perfect length, the elephants are a treasure, such a joy. The kids even enjoyed the historical/museum buildings. So much to look at!

The circus was pretty cool, we loved the elephants. We were disappointed that we didn't have enough time to also go through the buildings and learn about the history of the circus. I wish the person who had sold us the tickets would have let us know that the whole place would be closing shortly after the show. If we had known, we would have come back tomorrow instead so that we could experience the whole thing. Communication in general was lacking.

Children under three are free, adults are 23$ and I believe there is senior discount. Parking is free on the side street, and two lots across the circus. But you gotta get there early. Bathroom are clean. No food allowed , but bottled water is fine. Only good thing in there are the circus carts and old marketing posters. Everything else is just sad. And boring. Especially exploited animals.
Anytime I’m in Baraboo, WI, I feel a nostalgic sense of warmth and relaxation one seeks when on vacation or simply taking a stroll down this lovely town.
I was especially happy this year, in attending the yearly circus parade, as I was informed the elephants Isa and Viola will finally be retiring this August, to a sanctuary in Oklahoma.
I waved a farewell to the elephants as they walked by in the parade.
Delighted, I visited the circus. Immediately noticed the “ ride the elephants and pony’s” sing
15$ cash. Made me so sad. I saw the line of heavy people all waiting their turn to ride these two elephants just going around in a circle all day long.
I asked an employee for the well being of these animals. She quickly laughed and stated, “they can hold tons of weight and are better taken care of, then she or me.”
Her argument was - since they can hold that weight it’s fine for them to carry people for hours, on a daily basis until they retire this August. How can this not break your heart?
The circus felt cheap. Sad. Outdated. Their only form of income coming from the exploitation of the animals.
The National Mustard Museum is a fun Madison attraction with more than 5,500 mustards on display and hundreds of them at the tasting bar. The museum is unique because it has a wide range of mustards from all 50 states and 70 countries. It's free to enter, so you can save your money to buy something delicious at the gift shop.
One of those fun little quirks. Admission is free bit they do encourage donations. Huge mustard collection and lots of weird little mustard related stories and artifacts. They have a tasting bar you should try out. Get some t-shirts and other souvenirs. It's definitely worth the visit.

Though it's relatively smaller in size, it's packed with some nice things for the mustard lovers !
A loaded display of varieties of mustard and their origins dating back a few decades!
Inside is brightly decorated, nicely displayed, and very neat !
The accompanying retail shop has plenty of varieties for tasting and for sales.
Friendly staff greet you at the entrance.
The mustard, as packed in the original pack, dated very old, gave a bit of concern on health hazards !
It is easily approachable by road and enough car parking available.

The mustard museum was an all around really awesome place to explore. The top floor is their shop and they have all the mustards you can possibly think of to buy and souvenirs/trinkets that are all pertaining to mustard. They have a tasting counter where you can try multiple different samples of mustard and you can even buy a soft pretzel for $2 each! The museum is on the first floor and is entirely free. The National Mustard Museum has the largest collection of types of mustard and other mustard goods manufactured though the years. There is a nice video you can stop and watch and plenty of stories to read about mustard.

I found this museum at random, during one of my many Google Maps browsing sessions. At first, I thought it was odd. Then I told my wife about it, who got super excited. The next day, we drove roughly 150 miles to visit. Admission was free, so this was totally worth the gas cost, right?
When you first enter, you're met with a cute little gift shop. You will be spending big here later. Downstairs, you find what, albeit educational, can only be described as one big meme. They also offer a free tasting and $2 pretzels with the mustard of your choice.
Small place (1-ish hour total), but so worth it!
P.S.: Don't worry; we also stayed the night and explored the greater Madison area and then some for a fun weekend trip, but this was certainly a highlight!

Calling all condiment connoisseurs and curious foodies! If you're anywhere near Middleton, Wisconsin, the National Mustard Museum is a pungent pilgrimage you simply can't miss. Forget stuffy exhibits and dusty displays – this vibrant haven for all things mustard is a sensory explosion waiting to happen.
From the moment you walk in, the friendly docents greet you with smiles as contagious as a dollop of horseradish mustard. Their passion for the humble seed is infectious, and they'll happily regale you with mustard's fascinating history (did you know most American mustards hail from Canada?). Don't be surprised if your next sandwich craves a touch of Dijon!
But the real magic unfolds at the tasting bar. Eagerly, the docents guide you through a vibrant rainbow of mustards, from fiery ghost peppers to delicate lavender dreams. Each sample unlocks a new culinary landscape, leaving your taste buds dancing with delight. Fear not, timid tongues – milder options abound, and the knowledgeable staff knows just how to tailor the tasting to your palate.
And if you're a mustard maestro in the making, the museum's retail haven is your El Dorado. Hundreds of jars from across the globe line the shelves, each promising a unique twist on the classic condiment. Whether you're a garlic devotee or a chipotle champion, your perfect mustard match awaits.
But the fun doesn't stop at flavor. A playful trivia game tests your mustard mettle, while a ring toss game lets you channel your inner Dijon Robin Hood. And for those seeking to spread the mustard love, the gift shop overflows with adorable chotchkies and quirky souvenirs.
While the suggested donation is a mere $2, the National Mustard Museum offers an experience worth its weight in gold (or, perhaps, Dijon). It's a delightful blend of education, entertainment, and pure, unadulterated mustard magic. So, grab your hot dog bun (or pretzel, or bagel – options abound!), and head to Middleton for a truly unforgettable condiment adventure.
Bonus Tip: Don't leave without exploring the charming town of Middleton afterward. Quaint shops and cozy cafes beckon, offering the perfect post-mustard meander.

Fun experience, we have been visiting the Mustard Museum once a year on our annual trip to hike Blue Mounds State Park where my wife and I got engaged 27 years ago. This is a fun family tradition! Interesting mustard history, along with a taste testing station where you can try before you buy. They also have an interesting selection of hot sauces. We bought t-shirts a few years ago and had the curator autograph it, then my wife had a t-shirt quilt made for a Christmas gift for me. Lots of funny gifts, we always leave with a bag or two full of great things. We come from Illinois and go out of our way to visit, well worth it. They used to be in Mount Horab on our way to Blue Mounds which is how we discovered it, and now in Middleton. My wife said next year we should get our hotel in Middleton it's such a nice area. Go to the Mustard Museum, it's a must ard!!!!!

Best ski area within 3 hours. The runs were a lot of fun, though a lot of the blues start feeling the same. The high speed lifts were super nice! The staff were super friendly. If you get rentals on the weekend, try getting there as soon as they open. There's a huge rush for rentals an hour after open. Facilities were great, but a lot of stairs. The food was exactly what we needed after a long morning of skiing, and the coffee after a long afternoon. No vegan food options. The ski lesson was only an hour long, which flew by. Overall great experience.

The ski patrol and teachers are kind, all of the lifties have been great aside from one guy who yelled at us for going up the four person chair with just two seats filled on a midweek night. And there is a rental guy who helped me find the right screw to repair my snowboard binding. We drive about 70 miles but it's worth it.

Conveniently located (you can wave at the truckers on I-90), well maintained, plenty of parking.... moderate hills, diamond runs don't compare with Utah/Colorado or California, overall a great skihill for the average skier! They also limit the number of skiers on the hill - a good thing!

Love coming up here because it’s the best mountain that’s close to suburbs of Chicago. I go to Alpine Valley a lot and call that place the best close by mountain while Cascade being one of the best ski resorts to ski in Wisconsin. I come here every year with my Boy Scout Troop for our annual Ski Trip. One thing I don’t like is that they are cashless. I am not really a fan of using my debit or credit card. I would rather use cash but everything else is amazing.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum is a world-class arboretum located on Seminole Highway. The 1,200-acre site features varied habitats including prairies, forests and wetlands, as well as trails and nature classes.
We came here to hike on a Thursday in January. The trails were well marked even with a touch of snow, wide and easy to follow. If the ground wasn't frozen it would have been muddy in a few areas. There was a long drive in to the visitors center, but several marked parking areas. We enjoyed walking through several small biomes within the park. Each was diverse. We saw deer, squirrels, turkey, and even a coyote. Dogs are not permitted which really helps with being able to spot and enjoy local wildlife.

I drove from out of town to spend the day running through the arboretum trails. I was disappointed in the condition of the trails. J4-J5 trail was closed. Many of the wooded trails J2-L8 were old cracked concrete that was not a pleasure to run on. Other dirt trails had large tire ruts from service vehicles. C3-C4-C6-B8 was large road gravel, very uncomfortable to walk on. No sidewalk on main drive either. I happened to find the Southwest Commuter Path which was quite nice albeit a little narrower than I am used too.

Very surprised this place doesn't get more attention, so much beautiful and vast land to explore! Well managed and seen after.

Great trails and hiking place. Very crowded on weekends. Parking gets filled quickly on Sundays. Lot of pedestrian and bikers drive carefully and also the visitor center closes at 4 pm.

I’ve been going here for hikes since I was little with my family and every year we come back in awe of how beautiful and calming it is.
And it’s the perfect spot to go if you want to take family pictures!
100% recommend going!

The perfect place for walks and being in nature! The arboretum is stunning with all the nature and ample walking space. There are numerous walking trails. It is also perfect for riding a bike! It's also perfect to bring your kids and go explore.

Loved this place. Fair warning park on the east side of the visitors parking lot. They close the gates on the west side and takes several miles to get out

Love love love driving around the arboretum! It is such a peaceful and calming place to be. It is usually very quiet and there are so many walking trails. The grounds open from 4:00am to 10:00pm daily. And there are trail guides for people to go through.
Totally recommend this place as a must-see and experience in Madison!

Incredible arboretum. Walking through the prairies was absolutely magical. So many beautiful flowers, grasses, and insects. The colors were incredible, the paths were nice to follow, and there were good signs around. The pond had such an amazing variety of colorful dragonflies. I would come here again in a heartbeat and explore more of it. So nice on a summer day. Walking through the pines was nice and cool even though it was a pretty hot day.

A beautiful place to get ticks while enjoying a walk. I loved picking morels (though the “other” mushrooms I know from Amsterdam seem not to grow there). Random people say hello when meeting on trails, for some reason they didn’t like me answering “I don’t know you pal”. But nice place really.

I came here the first time during winter on January 2024 and it looked stunning with snow

Pedaling through the Arboretum was a pleasant way to go to and from classes at UW in the 1960s and 70s. I now visit and hike many of the trails as well, plus walking through the Gardens at various times to see how things change as the seasons pass.
2023 Update: I hiked the trails through the Curtis Prairie and Leopold Pines recently, an area that I've overlooked for too long. The Leopold Pines was a particularly serene area. I also finally observed the tunnel under the Beltline connecting the southern section of the Arboretum to the rest. All trails are well-marked with posts at intersections so be sure to pick up a copy of the Trail Map before hiking.
October sights: In late October, the Arboretum's Black Tupelo, aka Carolyn, just outside the Visitor Center, is spectacular. October is also the month when Arboretum guides lead hikes from the Visitor Center to the "Lost City," a Madison WI failed real estate venture that would have changed the Arboretum for the worse, had it succeeded. The tour takes visitors along "Capitol Ave" to the ruins of a foundation of one of the early 1900s homes in the failed development. Fair warning, tours of the Lost City fill quickly.

Absolutely beautiful grounds and trails! We loved seeing the magnolias in bloom and walking the boardwalk. The Children’s Activity Area is fabulous for wiggly explorers!

I stumbled across the history of the arboretum while in town on vacation. I figured it was worth a hike, and I was not disappointed. We did the trails north and northeast of the visitor center with the Native American effigy mounds and ponds/wetlands.
We spotted a small group of turkeys, a fawn, and even spotted a coyote. The trails were clean. The upland forest near the mounds is dominated by old oaks and hickories, with an understory of maples. It created really gorgeous fall colors. The prairie was beautiful as well with its fall oranges, yellows, and reds. Can’t wait to come back!
