Nature & Parks
Buena Vista Ski Area is an incredibly impressive, family-oriented destination with a nice range of options for skiing and snowboarding, particularly when the backside is accessible. The interior of the facility offers a pleasant and comfortable environment, often accompanied by live piano music. The dining experience is satisfactory, with a personal recommendation being the chicken strip basket. The functional bathrooms are especially notable on the upper level. One cannot overlook the breathtaking views from the top of continental, which are simply unparalleled in this region.
The owners are the best people in the world! It's a unique huge Log cabin with a beautiful fireplace very cozy spacious feel, big windows! Beautiful downward views of the lakes surrounding the resort are neat. Meshes perfect with the Logging History of Minnesota! It's a National Treasure ski resort, because this is where I learned to ski and shred snowboard basically 😘

We love BV! They made the most of the poor snow conditions. Thanks for all the fun! We were able to ski a couple times earlier in the season and enjoyed tubing & horse drawn wagon rides today.

Staff closed the ski hill for “safety concerns” due to weather. They didn’t announce the closure on their website. We drove 2 hrs for a little fun in some fresh snow. One staff member informed us it was “bad” at the top of the hill and that he had to “run around town” with his girlfriend. Weather is currently 23 degrees with light snow and a 16mph wind, pretty normal stuff for the region. I’ve been to this same hill in sub zero temps and stronger winds with snow before. I get the feeling that the staff is lazy and wants to watch the state hockey tournament instead of service customers at their small overpriced ski hill. I would have happily paid the price they charge for the meagre 200’ vertical they offer but will now reconsider in the future. Situations like this make it less likely that I will go out of my way to support a local business. The trade off is typically better service than the big places but I guess that’s a thing of the past. They also told us that Spirit Mountain in Duluth was also closed. I called. They aren’t. So you can add lying on top of laziness. Nice combo. I’ll be taking my money elsewhere.

Absolutely awesome, family-friendly location. There is a decent enough variety for skiing and snowboarding, especially when the backside is open. Inside the building is nice and cozy, and there is often live piano playing. The food is alright, I personally recommend the chicken strip basket. The bathrooms are functional (the upstairs one is better). The views on top of continental are simply the best around.
Overall, it's great coming here for skiing/snowboarding and tubing. Especially with how close to Bemidji it is.

Buena Vista is a local gem! We are so blessed to have this ski hill in our area. Great service, good food and good clean fun!

In the middle of Prairie, it is good to have an ski resort, but compared to other places like up in Alberta or Colorado, it’s tiny!
But the reason for not giving 5atar is that the facility is so old and poorly maintained.
The first place I check on everywhere I go is their WC. You should squeeze yourself to fit in with your outfit in there. Also upstair they had a rest area I suppose for skiers who stay overnight. It wasn’t clean at all!
Again when you want a quick ski in the area, it’s fine. Adults lift tickets are $45 which is fine.

I wish they had a midnight ski night once in a while. For what we have around here it’s a fun little hill. Family Friday night was a blast for the kids!
Christopher Tollefson — Google review
Place is overpriced and terrible staff. One of my friends had a bad ski accident almost got knocked out. Naturally ski patrol was no where to be seen and the staff laughed at it. When we went to help him we got yelled at by a worker named Joe. The incompetence of the workers there is insane. A place where a day pass is 50$ I would expect professionalism and nothing short of it. Not to mention the entire hill closed for an hour for no reason at all. Overall terrible experience probably not going back for a while and neither should you. Save your money go to Detroit mountain or giants ridge. Same price but a but of a drive, way bigger better hill better workers better prices. Go there not to this dump.
This park with diverse wildlife offers camping, hiking, fishing, picnicking & cross-country skiing.
Great park! Nice long beach with plenty of room to spread out. A good selection of hiking trails. Unfortunately when we were there the horse flies were out on the trails. There is a paved one mile spur trail that you can take to get to the Paul Bunyan bike trail. You can ride this trail into Bemidji and beyond. We stayed in site 87. This is a great site for tenters.
Jeff Berg — Google review
Great place to bike and hike as you have a variety of trail types all in short intervals so you can really customize what you want to do. Staff is always super helpful and you can even rent bikes, canoes, and kayaks here. They even have there own marina for your use and docking.. A must visit state park.

This park is simply perfect! It offers tons of activities. Miles of trails, some of the best swimming beaches, a great playground, campgrounds, and boat slips.

Good hikes through very diverse ecosystems. Was very interesting watching the trees change from old growth Pine to Black Pine/ Tamarack bogs.

Great campground. Beautiful vegetation & wildlife, in mid July! Had a big storm come through, & didn't hear sirens, over the noise of an air conditioner. Ooof. Everything seemed good in the morning.
Nice showers/ bathrooms.
Lots to see and do. Boardwalk bog walk. Bring your deet!
There is very low-clearance, under a bridge @ the boat launch. We had to stop to take the canopy down.

Nice, quiet State Park. Has playground, day use area with picnic tables, amphitheater, swimming beach, boat launch, fishing dock, and campground. $24 for non-electric and $34 for electric. Need State park pass for the day or a yearly one if visiting or staying in the campground. Modern bathrooms an showers. This area does not disappoint.

I’ve been coming to this campground since I was young and it still holds up after all these years. A clean and well kept campground with lots to offer. I loved exploring the bike trails and being able to walk to the bog from our site. The bathrooms were clean and stocked. It’s an added bonus to be close to town just in case.

Walked the Bog Boardwalk. You get amazing views of plants, Forest, and wildlife. The boardwalk contains many informational kiosks as points of interest to gain a greater appreciation of the plant life.

This is a great park. Nice views, trails, overall hard to to wrong with this park. Short drive from Bemidji to this park.

Great park in an wonderful location. Lakeside beach , playground for kids, walk, hikes or ride as we did out of the park directly onto Paul Bunyan State Trail. Big Hike is easy and a MUST. We’re in a 36ft class A . Would suggest a close look on google maps for larger rigs as some loops would present a challenge though doable. Park is well staffed and manicured.
Rubin Randel — Google review
This is a great State Park with a good mix of activities. A large clean Beach with picnic shelters shower rooms volleyball court horseshoes and grills in a grassy shaded area down by the lake. Campground is nice but limited privacy between sites. There is an excellent modern playground near the beach area. Rental bikes are available. The boat launch has ample parking and docks where you can leave your boats temporarily while you are at the park. A large Pier is available to fish from and there is a fish cleaning house.
A bright spot in our otherwise cold, dreary time in Bemidji: beautiful facility; fine Native-American-leaning art; fabulous gift shop; and nice people who let us in even though they're "closed" for mounting new work today.

While visiting Bemidji from out of town, we were looking for a way to take in local art. We were so glad when we drove by and discovered the Watermark Art Center, especially on a cold and blustery day. It is a bright, beautifully and thoughtfully curated gallery space. When we visited there was a very sweet exhibit featuring works from local middle- and high school students. There was a beautiful space dedicated to artists sponsored by Bemidji State, and another space with works done by a local indigenous artist. It was lovely to see such a wide variety of artwork. We really enjoyed our time there. The person who greeted us gave us a warm welcome, explained the different spaces, and informed us that the gallery changes every couple of months. So, the next time we visit Bemidji, this will be at the top of our list of stops!
Missy Isles — Google review
This was the first art museum I've ever stepped foot into, and I was apprehensive at first, but I was greeted with very friendly staff, beautifully made art, and a bright atmosphere. The talent in the Bemidji area is outstanding! The gift shop features all local artists and the pieces for sale are amazing.
Nikki Bauer — Google review
The Watermark art Center is currently the only art center located in Bemidji (Excluding the galleries located within BSU).
I've visited and been in Watermark Art Center events over the last 16 years and have had nothing but wonderful experiences.
The Watermark is a community member supported business that brings art classes (for all ages and experience levels), gallery space for exhibitions, and of course the Watermark Art Festival that takes place every July in Bemidji, MN.
I've had my kiddo in workshops/camps here a few times and he absolutely loved them. The cost of events and workshops is very reasonable and is mindful of what the local community can afford. The classes are high quality and educational.
The Watermark also acts as a gallery, rotating exhibits and showcasing works of both local artists and artists from outside the area. The exhibits are free to visit though donations are always encouraged. They also have a gift shop inside where you can purchase a wide array of local artwork, jewelry, and clothing.
I have participated in the Watermark Art Festival many times as well as in the Watermark member showcase. It's always been a pleasant experience, well organized, and Lori has been great to work with over the years.
In summary, whether you are an artist, or not, the Watermark Art Center is an excellent place to check out. They are a pillar in the arts community and I hope they continue to thrive. You may even find a workshop you're interested in!

Wonderful community gem, offering free admission. Exhibits are very well thought out, inclusive, and stunning. Gift shop offers wonderful local items. A must-see destination!
Karin Snortland — Google review
Interesting art that is changed out every so often so you get to come back for a new experience. It's free to go here, so that's a plus. And there is a gift shop for those who want to buy some art.

For a small art center in a small town this one is pretty good. I can't say I always understand art but I'm glad to have the opportunity to see it. Very nice little gift shop, too. We are fortunate to have many artists in our community.

First visit under my belt and I am impressed! They really did a fine job of remodeling this space and making it useful and attractive. The old building was an incredible eye sore right next to the lake. I feel this is something the area has been in need of for some time. There are a lot of incredibly talented artists in this area and I am very glad that there is finally a wonderful place in town to showcase their works! Kudos to all those that were a part of making this happen!
My kids have the time of their life every time we come here! Super friendly staff, they sell the folkmanis puppets too if you are looking for hyper realistic puppets for content creation, or to do story time with students, day care or your own kids. This science center also has a reptile petting zoo type set up which is super exciting because the kids can come pet the animals with a staff member handling them and learn about animals like bearded dragons, pythons and other snakes people keep as pets, they also have stick bugs, and other neat critters, including an owl enclosure! I highly recommend this place to locals, tourists and people just passing through looking to walk around after a meal at one of the local restaurants.

I went here for the first time today and it was amazing! They have so many different birds and reptiles to see and one of the workers even came over and picked up some of them to pet or hold!
I bought quite a bot at their amazing gift shop and had fun playing with the project exhibits they have there. They had so many wonderful and realistic looking animal model toys.
I definitely want to go again someday with my family!

My daughter and I visited Headwaters recently. They have many interactive science experiments. My daughter enjoyed making the giant bubbles & learning about all of the animals & reptiles. The staff was wonderful & the girl working in the reptile area was super knowledgeable & professional. She took out any reptile that we wanted to touch/hold & told us interesting facts about each one. We had a great experience & will definitely return.
Lindsay Hayen — Google review
I have a special place in my heart for the headwaters science center. They have a small selection of animals, some of which can be touched(with help from a volunteer). So many cool little exhibits where children can learn by play. I've come here periodically since I was a kid, many of the exhibits are the same and many of the exhibits are new. They shuffle exhibits around every once in a while to keep it feeling fresh. All in all a wonderful experience every time I go.

This is a fun place to bring the kids. They have live animals to explore and science based games for the kids to play. This isn't the first time we visited this place and it won't be the last. So bring the kids out and enjoy.

Small but mighty!
We bought their year membership and have been going every Tuesday for their extra activity they do upstairs. We've been going for weeks in a row for almost 2 months now and I still have to drag my son out of there!
Well-known roadside landmark offers large statutes of American folk hero Paul Bunyan & his ox, Babe.
The Visitor Center staff were so helpful in introducing us to the area and local attractions as well as history. A must stop especially if you have kids who will love the playground. Great location to stretch the legs as you walk around the lake.

We stopped in the off-season and off hours, so we did not go into the shopping area.
It was a beautiful, warm February day. Meant a nice couple there taking pictures.
Julie Rensland — Google review
These two definitely catch the eye as you drive through town. They're set in a nice little park with pretty views. We stopped by during a little snow storm, so we jumped out of the car, snapped a photo, and drive away. Nearby are some cool sculptures paying homage to indigenous peoples, so make sure to stop and see those. I'm sure if you came on a nicer day, this would be a good spot for a picnic.
Missy Isles — Google review
Stopped here just to see Tall Paul and Babe, but found this lovely Visitor Center and park. The Visitor Center had closed just minutes before, but we took picture with the Bemidji Sign, and the park and lake. Nice playground and covered picnic pavilion. There is adequate parking, lots of green areas, and the big lake. A cold wind was coming off the water, so we did not stay long, but it was a pleasant place. Clean and well-cared for. Restrooms are in the Visitor Center building.
Celeste Ruppelt — Google review
We made sure to stop in Bemidji just to take a picture with Paul & his babe. These sculptures are well kept. You can tell that the city takes pride in them.
The park next to the statues seemed clean & safe. We saw a lot of families having a great time.
Even though it was after hours we were able to use the restroom in the visitors center near the statues which was nice.

stopped on way home with my 2 year old to let him burn some energy and he had sooooooo much fun. Everything was pretty clean except all the goose poop all over the beach area but not much can do about that. My favorite thing was having CLEAN bathroom stalls in the visitor center so we could continue with potty training. Though the change table was not stocked with napkins and wish they had paper towels in addition to hand dryers. But we had a great time and would stop again!

It was a brisk March day so we didn't stay long. Got pics and visited the visitors center. Plan to come back when it's a bit warmer and spend more time. Great looking play area for kids.

Iconic northern MN park to visit. There is an inclusive playground, tourist info...so cute inside with real bathrooms and lots of info about the community.. theater, trails, events etc. Rent paddle boats or kayaks from there too. Walk along the lake to BSU and keep walking to the next large and amazing Diamond Point Park. From this location it's easy to cross the street and grab a home made ice cream cone from Big River Scoops. A block away is the Paul Buysn Sub Shop..yum! Close to an amazing hot dog stand as well! Enjoy your time here!

Nice little tourist spot. They have a little gift shop and info center. Worth the stop if you’re nearby.
Wow! What a hidden Gem! The staff were so welcoming and friendly! The animals were great! The kids- even the older teenagers had a blast feeding the animals and getting up close with the deer! Such a great stop along the highway to get out and stretch out legs and venture during our 8 hour trip home! So so glad we stopped!

Short and sweet! You do not need much time here, but it was so great! The hands on deer experience was so unique and fun. My entire family from my 4 yo to my 16yo, me and my husband loved it!
Molly Blume — Google review
Great family owned zoo! Well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive! Our kids (and us) loved feeding and petting the deer. Our youngest enjoyed feeding the raccoon and the pig the most! Clean bathrooms available for use. Some of the reviews said they had vending machines to feed the animals so we brought quarters prepared but, they have since updated and now have hand prepackaged food available to feed them. Apples, bananas, carrots, munchies ect. It was $5 for the 3 bags mentioned above, plus 2 cones of corn for deer, and a banana. Extra bananas are able to be purchased as well. We bought an extra banana for the lemurs. Owners are outstandingly friendly and it was a fantastic experience. We will definitely be back!
Jessica Halvorson — Google review
Wonderful experience! We went there on a Friday afternoon and it wasn’t too crowded. It was so neat getting to feed the animals!!! We loved feeding the tortoise, pigs and deer the most. Will definitely make this an annual visit when we come up to our cabin.
Jennifer Young — Google review
The people working was very personable and friendly. It was cool to be able to walk up to the deers. Our little one had a blast, their price was also very reasonable especially the whole pale of assorted feeds to feed the animals. Will definitely come back again.

Awesome little place to visit! Bring the family!! I absolutely loved seeing the bears playing with each other! The deer were awesome to feed and take pictures with! Wish some other animals were more active so we could see them, but overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend to check this place out!!
Erren Glover — Google review
This is a fabulous zoo with the ability to get close to the animals.ake sure you buy plenty of food to feed the animals while you pay for your entrance. In particular, get bananas (kangaroos and lemurs love them) along with apples and veggies. Munchies aren't as popular with the animals except the deer.
Bring some quarters with you to buy corn for the deer and fish food for the trout.
Animals appear well taken care of.
Zoo is small, but it's a perfect 1-2 hour excursion. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the animals.
Mister Jon — Google review
A nice family experience. It's pretty small but nice that the kids can be at the next exhibit and not too far away. The animals they have seem to change often. Hand feeding the deer is definitely a unique experience. I recommend bringing some quarters for the feed machines. Feeding the animals elevates the experience in my opinion. There is an open area for resting with a few picnic tables. Also a swing set for Littles next to the trout pond
Alexi Wells — Google review
This place is disgusting and the animals are being treated poorly, not to mention all the animals being fed the same; dog food and captain crunch CEREAL. Every single cage the animals are in are way too small. They’re intentionally like that so they can put a donation box on their front counter saying to “donate so we can make bigger cages.” ?????? A majority of the animals here are chewing on their fences and pacing back and forth in distress. This place is horrible. People need to stop going here and supporting this terrible business.
Outright Angling offers an exceptional fishing experience with Phil, who is known for his expertise in the Midwest. Despite challenging conditions, Phil ensures a successful and enjoyable day of fishing. He not only provides guidance on casting and fishing techniques but also shares insights into birdwatching. Whether it's learning about muskie fishing or understanding the habitat and structure of fish, Phil's wealth of knowledge makes for a memorable outing.
Highly highly recommend Phil! My husband and I did a 2 day guided trip aiming for muskie and multi species. We learned so much. Despite the first day being a little brutal with the wind and rain, Phil still did his best in getting us out and teaching us the ropes. Landed my first ever muskie, and on my birthday too! Best 30th birthday gift! Thanks so much Phil! Definitely will be contacting him again for future guides!

Highly recommend. Phil took 3 of us out muskie fishing for our first time. Taught us the ropes from casting the giant rods and baits to figure 8's at the end. Learned what structure and habitat muskies are relating to this time of year, but also the why. Phil is a wealth of information and a great teacher. Caught a beautiful 40" muskie and saw a few others. Very memorable outing.

We had the best time fishing with Phil on May 26th during a crazy 40 degree temperature swing. Despite tough conditions, Phil put us on fish and gave us the experience we wanted. We casted lures, experienced many types of casting and fishing that we asked for and thoroughly enjoyed our day. He is also a bird expert, added bonus! The most knowledgeable fisherman I have met in the Midwest. Spend a day with him and you won't regret it.

Visited on 10-18-2019 a very fall like day. Windy and about 55 degrees. No indoor seating so we found a neat little table on the patio. We finished one bottle that was really good.
We tasted first inside. Seven little wines. Some I liked some not so much.
This is a very unique place. Can you believe none of their wines are made from grapes.
Try this place we were pleasantly surprised.
I added some pictures.
If you like zinnias, can you imagine what those beauties would have looked like before the frost got them. I’ve never seen zinnias that tall. Someone has very green thumb.

Great place to visit. There is a wide range of wines and it was a real pleasure going through the tastings. Only 5 dollars for tasting of 7 wines. We found a few we really loved!!! The store is really neat and the people there were great. A must-stop if you are in the area.

Great little winery, no grapes!
All the wines are fruit based, but none from grapes. Pro tip: if you want something that tastes like a more transitional wine, the Black Currant is the best option. The rest taste like the fruit they list, and all are a unique spin on wines. Def worth the visit!

Been there a couple times. The music and art show were fun. Wine is excellent. They could greatly improve by offering a bit more upscale and put together appetizers to eat with the wine. Really cheap and disappointing. Especially for what they charge for the gas station, pre packed snacks!

Great variety of wine flights to try. Very friendly staff and it was easy for our group to split the bill. Raspberry wine tasted like fresh berries plucked from a bush.
Gaming hall for poker, blackjack & more, with a hotel, live entertainment & multiple dining options.
A favorite place of mine to just get away and spend some me time.

The restaurants were amazing. Rooms were standard. No shampoo/conditioner/ lotion or even hand soap in the room. I read that they should give you a bag at check in... That never happened. Check in was also over 3mins longer then any standard check in. The pool was great with a walk in section for small kids. Huge hot tub And sauna. Slots were great.

My experience was overall positive. I had a blast at the table games and had friendly dealers (for the most part). Some of the alcohol rules are strange but to be expected at a Reservation casino. Drink waitress came around often. There was also a live band playing the night I was there which was a nice touch on the floor.
RESTAURANT: Not good. Over priced for a poor cut of meat and some absolutely terrible 'walleye'. Skip the sit down "fancy" restaurant, not worth the price.
HOTEL: Very nice clean and updated rooms. No complaints.
If it wasn't for the bad food at the restaurant it would be 5 stars

Wow, talk about going backwards! THIS PLACE STINKS LIKE A STINKY BUTT ASHTRAY. So many people with breathing problems, not to mention we just got done with a scamdemic having to do with breathing and lungs.
Everyone was used to having smoke-free healthy air to breathe since the pandemic closure. Nobody complained about clean air including the smokers, who gladly went outside to smoke.
Losing is one thing, but losing then leaving smelling like an ashtray, and coughing up secondhand smoke, is not worth it.
Whoever made this decision obviously does not care about the nice employees (some of them anyway) who work at Northern lights casino, or their health.
Will not be coming back. You can keep your dirty, polluted, cancer-causing air for yourselves.

*edit - I bumped it up one star after I summoned my inner Karen and talked to another clerk, her supervisor, and the housekeeping manager to find out that, indeed, my pillow was found and bagged for me to retrieve. I'm still not appreciative of the clerk rudely telling me my pillow was not in the room, as if it vanished into thin air.*
I stayed here one night. The room was comfortable and the food was OK. There is a great selection of slots. The staff was friendly and helpful.
I left something in the room - specifically a very expensive bamboo pillow. It could not be mistaken for one of their hotel pillows as it's very heavy, and it was in a blue checkered pillow case. I called back later in the morning and the desk person said he'd leave a note for housekeeping. Called back at the end of the day and the clerk said no pillow was found.
So... everything was great, right up until the housekeeping staff stole my property.

The hotel was decent. It's frustrating they don't take cash for incidentals at check in (like every hotel does), and when we did check in and get to our room, (which had 2 queens) I sat on the end of one bed and the frame broke. They did get it fixed immediately. The beds are extremely firm and very hard to sleep on. The view is alright but it is close to many great amenities like Shingobee. The pop machine on our floor was FULL of EXPIRED pop, it wasn't ideal. The staff were friendly and helpful, but overall the experience was just decent. Wouldn't be my first choice.

i am currently staying here at the hotel,
and i am disgusted by the service.
whoever was working the snack bar close should be fired. i was at the Fuchs and Young wedding and was trying to order myself something to eat before close, the individual said there was no more hot food at 1:52, we understood and ordered cold food kindly. when we offered our card payment the individual did not accept the card due to the maiden name not matching the name on the ID, i said “ if you find it that weird here’s cash” and after entering our order and asking for payment she told us at 1:56 that they were closed. and she walked away and turned the lights off in our faces. someone please look at the camera footage. we were not violent or aggressive and i believe this individual who closed on 09/09 and the camera footage indicates a very awful and mean employee. i’m prepared to expose them. shame on them. i will be calling about this and expecting an apology

Prime time Tuesday. Senior free play and 5.00 food. What a joke! When I received my meal I only received 3.00 off food. When I asked the players club why only 3.00 she told me well they changed it. I asked then why is it still on website. They forgot to change it! It's there monthly daily special..just ripping off the old people!

Where do I begin. Once it was time to finally check into our room. We found garbage underneath our bed and ripped up paper and nasty socks. That wasn't even the worst of it. As the night went on our room ended up coming alive. There was Asian beetles (little orange lady bugs that sink when you kill them and they bite) coming all over the place. It was horrible. When we brought it up to the front desk all they did was laugh and said we already covered this at one of our meetings.
Also there was smoking throughout this entire casino. At least at Hinkely and Milacs they have designated areas for smoking.
I am not pleased and will never be staying here ever again!!!

Loads of fun!!! Great variety of different machines and settings. An excellent place to enjoy an evening out. The buffet is great, the bar has live bands and there's free beverage bars by every bathroom. Recommendable!

Fun, nice place, very clean, staff was friendly! We come by here about once a year and have stayed overnight several times. The perks have been better than this past weekend. Hope they come out with some more.

Our room was barely cleaned, there was trash in the bathroom, barely any toilet paper, the floor hadn't been swept or vacuumed. Our room cards stopped working after the first day and we had to get new ones. The Wi-Fi didn't work at all, and none of us had any service inside the building( aside from a few small spots). The one good thing is the snack bar had really good food and amazing service. I would go here again just for the snack bar if I could.

I really appreciated the fact that the hot tub was actually hot and not luke warm to accommodate children that shouldn't be in it anyways. The room was clean. The beds and pillows comfortable. The negatives were that upon check in there was a very long wait. If you tell all the guests to arrive at 4 than please have more than 1 employee helping the desk at that time!!!! Same thing in the casino restaurant (not the snack bar) We waited for a long time to be seated and it looked like it was closed down. Finally a hostess came. They were open. Just didn't look like anybody was working.

One of the worst casinos I have ever been to. 25 dollars for one point on rewards. These were the tightest machines I have ever played. You hardly ever get the bonus and when you do it does not pay. Stay far away from this place all they do is take your money and it is zero fun. They allow indoor smoking and the casino stinks real bad. All the staff seem like they can’t stand their jobs. Play anywhere else.

Our trip to Northern lights Casino was a trip on our 29 wedding anniversary. We were married at the court house on March 1,1995. After our marriage we went to the then smaller Casino. It was nice to see that it was a lot bigger. But the slots were still tight.

Nice place. We go every year at this time for a family party. Sad to discover that they are again allowing smoking in the casino. We really enjoyed not having to breathe the smoke in the past couple of years. Too bad the smokers won out.

Great place to stay for the weekend as other hotels were much higher priced. Kids liked the Snack Bar that was open late enough to get something to eat after hockey tournamnet games. Hotel rooms do need some repairs, but I think that is anywhere you go.

We came a couple weekends ago. We always come here! Not anymore. Our experience with Maria the black Jack dealer with long black hair was absolutely awful. We will forever avoid this woman like the plague and won’t be back again because of it.
She screwed up all night on the cards. She then got An attitude at the other players saying they should pay better attention after she dealt them wrong! Your kidding me! She started slamming chips down and acting like a lunatic being pissy with everyone. Listen, we have been going to the casino for 30 years and played many tables in our time of blackjack. Never encountered such an unprofessional crazy woman in our lives.
I wish I would have spoke to someone before leaving because what we experienced before we left was not ok! Never seen a worker like it

WARNING WARNING WARNING
This faculty is an absolute nightmare I will spare the ten or so small issues
and give you the top 5 absolutely UNSANITARY ILLEGAL issues at this facility.
1: condom in hot tub (YES correct condom floating in hot tub. (Got photo of they want to deny this)
2: specifically called before our stay to make sure their Wi-Fi has zero issues as my wife needs it for work throughout the night. (Zero Wi-Fi available all night) front desk clearly said it gets busy and the Wi-Fi don’t work at night. (AGAIN CALLED BEFORE BOOKING THE ROOM TO VERIFY WORKED) blatantly lied right to me, saying yes absolutely it works amazing.
3:kids everywhere on hotel gambling floor (recorded videos of them running all around the machines) 11:30 at night
4:ASKED MULTIPLE TIMES IF I WOULD LIKE TO BUY DIFFERENT DRUGS
5: after all the above issues, I contact the hotel shift manager (TERRY) who says there’s nothing they can do but he is sorry for the inconvenience. This is after I was yelled at by (GG) and told call back when we are not busy and we can figure it out. I CANT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS FACILITY IS STILL OPENED.
I have reported these issues to the Minnesota state Attorney General’s office
And the better business bureau as well .
If for some reason the hotel want to contact me and give a bunch of excuses and another un-sincere apology
My confirmation code for my stay so you can look up my information is : R26335

Although the employees were super nice I stayed the night and never ran into anyone that won at all. Also, it was ridiculous to me that it wasn't at least mentioned at check in that shampoo/conditioner/lotion/SOAP were available if I went back downstairs to get it. Staff is unable to bring things into the room. I consider a bar of soap for the sink as necessary as toilet paper. At least that was provided. Kind of a let down, especially considering most other casinos offer midweek free rooms. Doubtful I'd stay again.
Lake Itasca, located in Itasca State Park, is a serene glacial lake and the primary source of the Mississippi River. Visitors can witness the birth of the mighty river as it flows out of Lake Itasca on its 2552-mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico. The area around the lake holds cultural significance as it is the traditional home of Dakota and Ojibwe peoples. The park boasts vast pine forests, over 100 lakes, and numerous trails for hiking and biking.
One of my favorite lakes and state parks to visit. Kids love playing in the water. The hike to the eater is short and simple. Very kid friendly and plenty of things to do here. Very clean. Can picnic, swim, fish etc. Always a good day here and well spent.

Exciting to see the beginnings of this mighty river. It doesn't seem so big here. From just a small trickle to a massive river. A must see, make it a point to come here, it's a great experience.

What an amazing experience, trip, pictures, videos, EVERYTHING! ❤
The nature and the preparation that surrounds the place is great and beautiful. I know I will be short on words and details but will try my best.
The drive: Getting there starts to turn on the magic of the whole area. Of your GPS says 1 hour, plan for three because you will want to stop at so many place for 10-20 minutes! Drive by a tiny towns where people mind their business yet start casual conversations with the friendliest smiles.
The conglomerate of areas: lakes and parks you get to visit while going around and seeing so many things Lake Itasca has to offer. I don't know why but always wanted the experience of soaking my feet and "crossing" the Mississippi river, well this is the place! 👍👌. Everything is a bike ride away. SO MANY BEAUTIFUL PLACES!
Lake Itasca has many natural views and activities and many more organized like rent bikes kayaks etc. But all in all whether a day trip or a week long camping, I guarantee you it will he the vacation of a lifetime. I loved it.
The views: Depending on time of the year your views and experience will vary. During he summer is he most beautiful blue sky and green shrugs and blue refreshing water areas.
Walk, swim, bike, jog, run, canoe, kayak, paddle, retreat and think, OMG you name it. Family, friends, solo travel. You will come a whole new person and with memories for a lifetime.
I cannot say enough great things. Minnesota might have really white winters but spring summer and fall are amazing as well. And Lake Itasca surely represents well one of the many hundreds of natural areas to visit. They are clean and safe so we must keep them that way. Care for each other and watch each other.

WOW! Lucky enough to see this park glowing! They are working on a retention project so we could not get right down by the water but really enjoyed what we could see and hike! Many informative plaques about history, a gift shop, cafe(limited hrs), picnic tables and super clean bathrooms. We drove the wilderness drive and enjoyed nature at its best!! There is a beautiful paved bike trail so we will be returning with our bikes next! Day pass was $7.00 and worth every penny!

Itasca State Park, located in northwestern Minnesota, is a vast natural area spanning over 32,000 acres and featuring more than 100 lakes. As the state's oldest park, it is renowned for being the birthplace of the Mississippi River. Visitors can witness the headwaters of this mighty river at Lake Itasca and even walk across its beginnings before it embarks on its 2552-mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico.
Fantastic place to visit! This is a must visit if you are anywhere near Itasca. The visitor center is nice and well kept. A short drive from the visitor is the headwaters of the Mississippi River. It's awesome to be able to walk across knowing how big this river is.

This is a State Park, so there is a one day vehicle permit of $7. After that its free, except if you buy something from the gift shop. Restrooms are inside the gift shop area. It's a nice gift shop with all kinds of fun stuff and nice people.
This is the headwaters of the Mississippi River, which to us was a must see. A small placid little stream that is knee deep when it follows out of Lake Itasca. In late September, when we were there, the water was almost warm. One parks in front of the Visitor's Center and walks a short forested trail back to the marker, and the crossing rocks. There is also a split log 'bridge' for those who aren't as sure-footed. The picnic area is near the Visitor's Center, and the parking lot is generous. We enjoyed our Bucket List visit.

Such a beautiful park. Great place to recharge your mind and soul. I've been going here since I was a kid and it is always a great visit. Great place for kids and adults to breathe and relax. Drive the back one-way route, shut off your vehicle, and enjoy the deafening quiet. $7 for the day or buy a season pass. Money well spent.

So much to do and see here! This park is great for hiking, but it is also easy to drive around and park at all the different attractions. Itasca Sports has all you recreation needs: cycling, e-bikes, canoes, kayaks, and pontoons!
The fire tower gives incredible views. The Mississippi River headwaters are very cool to walk over and in the water.

Very wonderful park and great camping experience. Long paved bike trails all over the park that can also be used for strolling like we did. We visited every single point of interest in the park and enjoyed our 5 days very much. Douglas Lodge was a pleasant dining experience. Great Walleye sandwiches! The riverboat tour, headwaters of the Mississippi, both visitor centers in the park are informative and beautiful, Preachers Grove, Peace Pipe Vista and several more things to see. The campground is nicely laid out and the shower house is excellent. We would certainly stay again.

Highly recommend visiting Itasca State Park and staying overnight at least once in the campground. There are black bears present in the area so follow the rules with putting food away. Flush and pit toilets available throughout the campground as it is huge. It is hard to get a spot on the weekend so plan ahead. You will never get bored as the park has boat ramps at lakes, a swimming beach on Lake Itasca, canoe and bike rentals, a scenic drive, an observatory deck, hiking trails, and camping.

My favorite MN State Park. Walking across the headwaters is so fun, there are miles of bike trails, beautiful hikes, lakes (some with great swimming spots), campgrounds, cabins to rent, etc etc. There's something for absolutely everyone. My favorite is the fire tower which, once you make it up the 130some stairs, offers the most gorgeous views (especially in the fall) for miles.

Beautiful park! It's pretty amazing to be at the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi! The rocks can be quite slippery so be careful! I would highly recommend water shoes and just stay off the rocks.
We also stopped at the fire tower. It's 135 steps to the top of the tower. There is a 1/2 hike to the tower which involves a fairly steep, long incline.

Visited Itasca State Park on 9/2/23 over Labor Day weekend. I was pleasantly surprised it didn’t seem overly crowded for a holiday weekend.
Our group visited the trail leading to the start of the Mississippi River, and we also spent some time at the beach. (Please note there was a sign indicating dogs shouldn’t be on the beach, most other areas seemed dog friendly).
The trail was a very short walk to the water, there was a cute bridge along the way. You can choose to walk over, or through the water.
It’s bear country so just know you need to be on the lookout and take precautions with food. There are bear proof trash receptacles throughout the park.

We reserved the FDR WWII escape room for my grandsons' 10 year birthday and it was outstanding. We had 9 people in the room, ages 10 to 81, and we were all challenged, entertained, and felt very victorious at the end. Our grandkids live in LA and the teens had been to many escape rooms there so I tried to prepare them for the likelihood that this one might be a little less of a production. However, at the end of the challenge, they volunteered that this was the best one they’d been in so far. If there were six stars I'd give it that. Then we stayed and played on the various games and attractions afterwards. It was their best birthday yet.

Challenge course with multiple different challenge options. Can go as small group or larger. Families, teams, friends, coworkers all can benefit from some of the team building skills and encouragement activities. Can help put things in perspective. Has small inside store with branded gear, small bathroom. Large outdoor gathering space. There is not a lot of parking. Many different games and challenges. There is a playground for smaller children. Ropes course is elevated high enough to give even those without height scares some shake knees. Rip cord (always fun), Trust sessions, problem solving skills and team balance. The staff is trained well and fun to work with.

We had a great time! The staff was friendly and energetic. The only negative was we (3 older adults) were coupled with 2 other groups making us a group of 9 (3 young children). This course has fantastic putting greens, sunsets, and rainbows! I mean come on, what more do you want? Seriously, the course is in really great shape, huge kudos to their superintendent Jeff (whom I just recently met) and staff. Must be a ton of work with all the watering they have to do this summer. The club house staff, food, and bar is great too, and a big shout out to Joanna and Ben who manage it. Everyone I’ve met while playing on this course is super nice, and that makes a round of golf even better. Playing the blue tees is pretty challenging here for me, so I just play the white, sometimes even the gold. Getting good tee times has been no problem. Bottom line, the Vintage Golf course is beautiful, fun to play, and a great value. Oh, one last thing. I also see a lot of younger players out on the course here. It’s wonderful to see the next generation of players enjoying this sport.

In golf you get what you pay for. This course is very affordable. Don't expect pristine grass on the fairways or great sand in the bunkers. Nice layout. Great staff. Some forced carry and tight fairways. Greens were small and not a lot of room too miss right, left or behind.

Great staff, friendly and helpful.
The quality of the course surprised me because I live about thirty miles away and I have golfed all over the country and never tried it before. I always thought it was some small town old style course...but after some easy beginning holes it shows you that it has some teeth if you want to play it long.
The back nine will challenge anyones game. The greens are in great shape and run smooth and quick...just the way I like.
If you are in the area be sure to give it a try.

Great brewery! Super friendly, attentive staff. Comfortable inside seating, great outdoor seating with lighting and fire pit. Sours, darks, ipas. Would visit again. A little pricey. $7 a beer is prob 1-2 overpriced. But I would stop for one.

Came here with some friends on a Friday afternoon. The bartender was very nice and funny! She recommended a sour that had another sour slushy on top and it was great! I also got a new beer glass to ad to my collection and a free sticker! I will definitely go back next time I'm there.

We stopped by on the way back from Fargo. We arrived at opening, had a great time talking with Justin, and trying many of the beers. We liked or loved all of them. We will be back. Great logo, too. Had to get a hat. Years later, still amazing. Glad to see them staying open and keeping with what's made them amazing.

Super nice staff!!! Beer was great.
They do a shandy mix which is amazing!!! If you make it there ask about it and give it a try!
Outside seating is perfect. Can’t wait to return.

Love it here. We come often, and enjoy all of their beer. So glad they found local owners willing to step up and keep it open! Thanks!
Amazing food and extraordinary service! We visited from out of town and Maegan welcomed our group with open arms. She treated us like family! Made amazing suggestions for food and beverages! Outstanding all the way around!

Great service and food came out very quickly. We started with the Gouda pickles and they were good (the chipotle aioli was the star) but they were a little underdone. We got a Cajun chicken sandwich and a fun-guy burger (mushroom and Swiss). They looked so good we started eating before I got a picture! The Cajun chicken sandwich had a great flavor but my husband from Louisiana said it definitely wasn't Cajun 😂 The fun-guy burger was delicious and the fries were well cooked and seasoned. Great variety of beers on tap, too, and looked like some delicious seasonal cocktails. They lacked dessert options but we were too full anyhow. Will definitely be back the next time we're in the area!

Local car dealer recommended this place to us as we traveled to Perham to look at a car. 2:00 in the afternoon, moderate traffic in restaurant it took nearly 2-1/2 hours to get burgers. We waited 35 minutes for water and to be acknowledged by wait staff. When mentioning our concerns, the manager dismissed our concerns by stating that's the way it is. The manager lamented to us about having to come in on their day off. Not professional behavior by any stretch.
Bill Gerszewski — Google review
Service was very slow on the patio! Took 15-20 minutes before 1 of the 3 waitresses came over and asked what we'd like. We didn't even get water.
We ordered a Tortilla Dip Trio and bloody Mary's which were both good

Their Gouda pickles are my favorite along with beer cheese soup. I tried their chicken hoagie and sweet potato fries with chocolate cake with a Baileys drizzle and I was beyond impressed with how delicious it was.

Highly recommend Gouda Pickles! Had a really yummy lunch although service was very slow. We will give it another chance next time we are in the area though.

An amazingly good place to eat for the location. We're from out of town and loved the food. Our server (Matt?) was incredibly kind and suggested some great food.
Try the Shrimp Tacos and the cocktails.

So good we came back for seconds 🤪 two days in a row while we were visiting. Really good food and great drinks. Only place I've been to that could make me a hot toddy. Super clean, super friendly, great vibes good space good options on the food a little bit of everything. Drink and food specials too.

My fiance picked this place, and she picked a good one! This place hands down has the best cheese curds and burgers we have had in (if not along time then), ever!!! The bar itself is beautifully designed. I would recommend coming here, and coming back again!

Not only was the food delicious and the atmosphere friendly, but they also mailed the pocketbook I had left behind with my cash, driver's license and medical card inside. Can't thank you enough. A business with integrity should get more than 5 stars!
Best burger in town. Onion rings were huge and perfect. Fries were crispy but needed some salt. Highly recommended.

The best place to eat in the lakes area. Amazing food and atmosphere m

We had broasted chicken and onion rings. They both were fresh, hot, and delicious. Excellent food, decent price. Kudos!
The service, on the other hand, was quite lacking. There were two other tables there beside us. (2 people at each) We waited almost 20 minutes for the server to take our order. Once we got our food, no one checked to see if everything was alright or if we wanted more beverages. There were 3 servers and a bartender. With three total tables filled, they weren't understaffed or overwhelmed. The bartender finally brought our tab when we were finished. Not sure what was going on.

Billy’s Corner Bar & Grill was an excellent lunch spot after visiting the World’s Largest Loon. We had a group of 10 and were seated with no wait during the weekend lunch hour. Our waitress was lovely and patient, explaining menu items and quickly getting our beverages served. We ordered the fried green beans (served piping hot, perfectly prepared, and with a really yummy ranch dip), chicken caesar wraps, burgers, fries, and salads. Everything was well prepared and served as ordered. Apparently, Billy’s has a bingo where you can win packaged meat! Ok, Minnesota. The service got a little frantic towards the end but our waitress never forgot about us. The electrical work in this place is also a little questionable but that didn’t detract from the food or service at all.

Great service and small town atmosphere! I had a Taco Salad and it was delicious. It came out right away and the shell wasn't burned or undercooked. Staff was friendly and quick. Bathroom could use an update, but it is like every other small town bar bathroom I have been in

Simple fresh ingredients make these burgers some of the best I’ve had. The burgers didn’t have much seasoning and they didn’t need to since they were high quality. The only thing I would change is having a smaller size burger available just in case I didn’t have someone to share along with me.

Came into Billy’s on a snowmobile, sat down, had a nice Grain Belt Premium in a frosty mug, and a Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale in a frosty mug. All of this while eating one of the juiciest burgers I’ve ever had and some fantastic nachos. This place is a big win!

Second time here. It was the only restaurant open for the season in Vergas.
Bingo was going and nearly done when we arrived on a Sunday at 5. The staff was very nice though it was obvious she was very busy. My husband and son split the 4 meat pizza, my son loved it, my husband said he's had better.
I had The Honey Berry to change it up from the typical burger or wings... it was delicious!! I would definitely get it again! The rye bread was perfectly toasted with a great combo of flavors from the ingredients.
Highly recommend if your looking for a good warm sandwich.
Good food, good prices and a friendly staff. We all had something different and everyone was happy with the food. I had the chili burger with tots and the tots were cooked perfectly

Great service and the food was so good. Between the three of us, we had burgers and the fish sandwich. Would definitely order them again. My son had also sweet potato fries and they were delicious, but the cinnamon butter that came with it was the best. Very impressed.

Pretty good place was unsure as the Appartment or Motel building connected to it has seen better days. But the inside was nice. Bathroom door handle was missing, which was a bit awkward (I'm assuming this was a temporary issue). However I love places that aren't afraid to come up with some interesting combinations for food. Check out some of the photos posted of the specials. Burger (firehouse burger) and app (waffle nachos) I had where really good. Fries where pretty good as well. All in all I feel this place deserves a better location as that's the only thing that takes away from it for me. Will definitely be coming by when I'm in the area again.

This use to be a good place to dine but the service has gone downhill very quickly. My girlfriend and myself went in there to dine recently and never got served. We waited at our table for over 15 minutes without any server waiting on us and there were two servers on duty. Completely piss poor, if you ask me.

Waitress talked 2 other customers about previous lady in that was diabetic & went into great detail about all her amputations. Lost my appetite left.
Not sure what happen in last few months w/ the quality of food either. Wasnt even fully cooked.

Consistently good food with creative menu choices. Last time we were there, the waitress let us do whatever we wanted basically for burger basket night. Firehouse burger without slaw is my favorite, but its not for the timid!

Wed 8-18 awesome, wed 8-15 awsome.....Tue 8-21 horrible. Tacos stale, over a half hour wait and not nearly as busy as wednesdays so no reason. Tea was watered down, supposedly changed out but still watered down. Tipped burger and fries while setting down on table dumping fries off plate...when the guys are up front watch out for this place.

Last time we were there the service was completely awful. Everyone around us who ordered after us got their food before us. Our server was no where to be found ever. Finally asked a runner to check if our food was done, and it had been sitting back there a good 10 minutes at least.
Vintage 3-screen cinema with an art deco marquee & a concession stand presenting full-length films.
I recently visited the Cozy Theater and had an amazing experience! This local movie theater has three screens, which means there's always a great selection of movies to choose from. What impressed me the most was their affordable prices. It's hard to find a theater that offers such high-quality entertainment at such reasonable rates.
The cozy ambiance of the theater added to the overall experience. The seating was comfortable, and the screens were perfectly sized, providing a great view no matter where you sat. The sound quality was also excellent, immersing me in the movie and making it feel like I was part of the action.
The staff at the Cozy Theater were friendly and attentive. They were always ready to assist and ensure that everyone had a pleasant movie-watching experience. The cleanliness of the theater was also top-notch, creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment.
I highly recommend the Cozy Theater to anyone looking for a wonderful movie experience. Whether you're a local resident or just passing through, this theater is a hidden gem that deserves recognition. Don't hesitate to visit and enjoy some quality time with your favorite movies. You won't be disappointed!
Five stars all the way for the Cozy Theater!

10/10 will be coming back here to see more movies. The auditorium, ticket counter, and lobby were spotless, the staff were very nice and prompt with helping, and the sound/picture quality for the movie was 10/10 great.
The best part- they charge less for tickets and snacks compared to the movie theaters in St. Cloud and Baxter.
My only complaint is there was a fan creaking in the auditorium but it was barely noticeable once the movie started.

The theater has been always been so well cleaned. They always have updated and great movies. However it would be great if they older movies like in 2020. The concessions so fairly priced for a small town theater as it is. It’s quite impressive that it’s been open for so long. And the worker don’t get me started on how nice they are and they always have a smile on their face. Keep up the great work Quincer’s and stay open for another one hundred years:)

My mom and I went to see Dear Evan Hansen. Great movie, as well as the great service as always from the owner and staff at The Cozy Theatre.
From the inexpensive concessions to selecting your own seating, this still is my favorite movie theatre to go to. I have been coming to The Cozy since the year 2000, and have seen a lot of films here over the past 21 years with friends and family. It has also been around for 100 years.
When my dad and I go here, I always get a large, red slushy, and my dad gets a small, orange Crush. It is a tradition that we both have at The Cozy and we will continue that tradition going forward.
If you are in Wadena, MN, you need to check out The Cozy Theatre.

Fun to see all the old machinery in the mill. You can wander just about anywhere in this place! It’s awesome to see a historic place that isn’t all blocked off and regulated. Plus it’s free! Super chill place for a picnic or swim “at your own risk” or to show the kids some olde timey tech. Many thanks to the people that care for this special place!

Historic flour mill. Very beautiful sitting. Nice park next to the mill. Bathroom facility was the cleanest I have ever seen. Enjoyed very much.
The day we visited it was very hot. There were families fishing and a couple floating in the river.

I wish they would either fix up the old mill to a historic level again. Maybe instead of a bike walk path from Perham to Fergus falls, MN they might consider putting some money into a little upgrading instead of letting It just rot away.

A beautiful little setting! Bring your significant other with a blanket on a nice summer day. Sit under a tree, have lunch and enjoy each other's company by the stream. When you need a walk, checkout the rich history of the Mill! Highly recommend!

Large county park along the Ottertail River which hosts a festival once a year. Very nice for a county park. Great place to get on or off the river as it has a portage around he damn and a kayak launch. Also has pit toilets, a smaller playground, and picnic table shelters. Great place to shore fish. Camping is not allowed.

Very nicely maintained park with historical significance of damming to capture the energy to make flour in the mill. It is worth visiting when you are in the area.

This is a beautiful tranquil Park. Some times the mill is open for self guided tours. Lots of benches, playground, water and restrooms.
Serene park around a lake, with opportunities for fishing, cart- & canoe-in camping & swimming.
Gorgeous park with pristine water in its numerous lakes. We did the hiking club trail around Annie Battle Lake, then had a picnic lunch and hangout in the Lodge Area by the Trail Center. The hike was pretty and part of it was a shared bike trail, which wasn't ideal but was very manageable. We made a pit stop with our dog to enjoy a stream and were very tempted by the cattails. Parts of the park have a remote resort feel, with nice common areas and lots of rental opportunities (that we did not try).

Peaceful walking trails with forest, lake, river, and prairie views. Kayaking and bike rental options through Galloping Goose Rentals on-site but you should call ahead to reserve. The river is very clear and has quite a bit of fish in it. Don't forget to pay your respects at the old dog cemetery in the woods.

This park is wonderful! Following is camping tips: The campgrounds are in the woods and cart-in so be ready to park in your designated parking spot (same as your site number) and haul your stuff in your designated cart. There is one main bathroom next to the parking lot with huge shower stalls with areas to put your stuff down on. The water is hot and no charge or time limit. There are a couple of vault toilets along the campsite if you are at a further site like us. Be aware of the racoons that are there and pack your stuff tightly. The racoons are not afraid of you and will hang in the trees along the walkways. The nearby lake has kayak, SUP, and canoe rentals in clear beautiful waters so take advantage of the proximity and have a great lake trip.

Nice small beach on a clean quiet lake. Although there was not a lot of sand on shore, the clean sandy bottom extended far into the water for enjoyable, weed free swimming. Also canoe/kayak/paddle board and bike rentals for those who don't bring their own. The small river near the beach was fun for the family to kayak down!

Absolutely gorgeous! Stayed a couple nights at the group camp and really enjoyed how much space we were given. Although it was a bit far from the restrooms and very close to the public beach, so be prepared for long walks and lots of foot traffic. Hiking trails, beaches, and the lazy river were wonderful!

First time at Glendalough with my two sons, 11 and almost 2. I was consistently surprised with all the park had to offer. Battle Creek connecting the lakes was so fun to paddle board. Crystal clear waters made fishing especially fun for the little guy. Campsite CI22 is arguably the best in the camp, with our own little trail down to Annie Battle Lake. Heritage fisher so plenty of fish and no motors. Super quiet and peaceful. Sandy shores everywhere. Bathhouse was well maintained, sites were all secluded enough to not here others’ conversations. No bugs in July was also a huge plus.

Ridiculously beautiful!! There are unfortunately much fewer official trails for mountain biking than I would have wished, but *whispers* I went on all the trails anyway. Outstanding how massive this State Park is, its beauty, amazing facilities, signage, and pathways. I would highly recommend this to cyclists that want a mixture of paved and dirt/groomed grassy paths. You really need to be cycling in order to see the entirety of this huge park, which is why I'm so sad that cycling is not condoned on all paths. If it's a weekday I'm sure you can get away with it, but likely not on a weekend.
I would recommend if you're just visiting for a day, going all the way to the end and parking where the rental bicycles are; this will help you to know where everything is (I was lost when I first entered). Then cycle up to the woods North of there where the pretty cabins are and entering the woods from there. There are many paths that are missable without a careful eye. Cycle all the paved paths and roads in this park so you can find them all! Have a blast!! Many great fishing spots too.

Another one of Minnesota's beautiful state parks ! Liked having to cart your equipment in to your campsite. Less noise in the campground. Plenty of room between campsites. We brought kayaks and had a blast ! Fishing was good and water quality is second to none !
Randy Benton — Google review
This park is beautiful and quiet. The trails are fantastic. Lots of wildlife watching opportunities. The lakes are a paradise for paddling in a canoe or kayak. Each lake has a different character. The campsites are primitive and cart-in. There are some canoe-in campsites as well. Solitude is the name-of-the-game here. There is also a swim beach and I believe the fishing is good. If you are a tent camper then there is no better place. There are also some yurts can be rented.

Very small but everything you need in a state park close to Battle Lake Mn. Nice park in the lakes area. Good hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, boating and camping. Trails are great for being in a small area. Bike trails throughout the park connects to town. Campground is small but wooded and feels secluded being cart in. Also one of the few parks in MN that has Yurts, they are available year round. Multiple day use areas that are real good and is known for its great swimming in two lakes. Excellent park for a single day visit. Park being so close to town and popular can be very congested especially on the weekends and even in the winter with skiing and sled hill. Lots of wildlife in this park.
Wyatt W. Penke — Google review
A fairly recent addition to the State Park system, (officially added in 1991) Glendalough is a gem and unique for several reasons: it features 5 lakes including some of the largest un-developed lakeshore in the state, an automated check in (there is a park office, but it is rarely open), and a cart-in only campground.
Sites must be reserved ahead of time or via the Yodel app at time of arrival, firewood must be purchased via Yodel app and cell service can be touchy requiring a drive into Battle Lake for better signal.
The campground itself it very forested and provides plenty of shade from the sun. If you site lakeside, you will be treated to lovely loon calls at sunrise and sunset. It's also more quiet without the constant thwump and beeps of car doors shutting and locking.
It's nice.
Bring your bikes as there are plenty of trails to ride in addition to hike.
It's must visit place in , don't miss it. You need a quick stop to visit this cute little park along with some awesome sculpture, the watermelon was my favorite one. There was also a vintage cars fair going on when we visited , totally worth it. And we also find a watermelon party near by. Good day to visit there.

This sculpture park is pretty cool. Even if you're not into art, or "Art", it's fun to walk around and see them. It's in a field next to a gas station, it really is nothing fancy. The town of Vining (population, roughly 70) is like 25 minutes north of I-94. If you're driving up or down I-94 and you need a break, take a detour and check it out. Then grab lunch at one of the two diners in town. You'll get a nice break, really good food, and see something kinda cool and it will only cost you 60 to 90 minutes of your trip. But check it out. It's very whimsical. You'll ask yourself " Who gets the idea to sculpt a life size elephant out of rusty lawnmower blades?" Don't overthink it, just check it out. Is it worth a nearly 3 hour drive from Minneapolis? Frankly, yes. It's a pleasant Saturday.

Cool grassy area full of interesting sculptures next to a nice gas station. If you're driving across country, this is a nice excuse to detour away from I-94 for a little while and take the scenic route.
Very good. we had a Whiskey Rock Bourbon burger and a Cowboy burger. Both very good, very different flavors, so no rehashing sauces. The beef was good quality and cooked perfectly. This place is the perfect hangout spot. It is great for events, live music, wine tasting, and stocking up. Everything we tried was on point: the chardonnay, zinfandel, and especially the peach wine. Appreciate the preset tasting menu with options of dry sweet and mixed so we don't have too many decisions to make. The brewery on site also has a fantastic selection of wine and whiskey aged brews. Food cart on site for snacks, the pretzel, of course, is the best

Excellent place to unwind, enjoy the countryside and great food and drinks! The pizza was excellent (we had the vegetarian and the spicy pepperoni) and I appreciated the array of wine flight options - most of them costing $12 or you can customize your flight for $15 or go for the primo wines for $30. The beers were really great quality as well. Try to go when they have live music. Plus, they’re dog friendly!

I normally wouldn't post but saw someone commented on the food trucks serving during Grape Stomp 2023 and wanted to share my experience. This was my first time at the event, and I have to eat gluten free. I thought the food truck selection was perfect for me. I ate at the one selling burgers, and they were able to serve a gluten free option which I hadn't expected. And the food was amazing - so far the best meal I've had in the couple weeks I've been here. Thank you for a great and entertaining event and for making it safe by having bus transportation from the hotels. It's definitely something I'd encourage anyone visiting in the area to attend.

Very beautiful grounds! It was much larger than expected. In addition to the winery, there is a brewery on site as well as a pizza restaurant. Large variety of wines. A fun atmosphere with lots of people enjoying a lovely afternoon.

Grape Stomp 2023 was a blast but up your food truck game! The craft vendors are all hand-picked and there is great effort put into finding unique, one-of-a-kind goods along side the commercial booths but the food was a major disappointment. This venue is HUGE and only 3 days. Feels like the food vendors should be gourmet and put out the best they have. People will pay for good food if it mirrors the quality of drinks and art.

My boyfriend proposed to me at Carlos Creek and all the ladies made the whole experience so special! Such a great place to make memories and have a great day. The bartenders are the sweetest people ever and made picking out wines so much fun!

Such a beautiful winery and brewery located in Alexandria, Mn! Carlos Creek Winery is one of the nicest in Minnesota! The beautifully maintained grounds compliment the terrific, friendly service and of course the fantastic wines made on site; particularly the Hot Dish Red and Wobegon White! An Amazing experience where you can spend all day, all year around, even dining there at Stoke wood-fired pizza! Terrific!

This is a great trail with beautiful scenery. I didn’t ride it for the 55 miles but the 20 miles I did was very nice. It is very scenic with some beautiful lake views. There are large cracks due to frost but I do not have a road bike anymore so it didn’t bother me. It has some decent map info so you have little to guess on how far until the next town.

Perfect place to stop on the trail for a pit stop. Has a Porta potty and picnic shelter. Not much in town.

Big Ole - Big Viking Statue

Monuments & Statues
Visited this statue on Saturday. It was pretty cool. He is quite tall. He is maintained the runestone museum across the street. The parking is not great but there is a small lot to park in.

Oh, Big Ole, ye viking giant, standing there in the town square! How magnificent your pose, how thoughtful your distant stare! As the limbs on the trees dip low to the wind, we bow our heads to you, in reverent repose.

Good statue in honor of the area's history! Tourist stop for sure!

Fun historical statue and the live camera helps us know how the weather is before we get there!

Staying overnight here in Alexandria and had to make a stop here. Very cool Viking and definitely a photo op.

Just a huge Viking statue named Big Ole, it is 28 feet tall and weigh 4 tons. It said that it was created to accompany the Kensington rune stone for the New York world fair in 1965. There is a lake nearby and also connect to Centre lake trails.

A little ways off the highway, but definitely worth a stop. There is a little park and lake. Good place to stretch the legs and take a selfie.

This is always a must stop. GOOD OL OLE is a fixture and a warm greeting from a familiar face

Big Ole (O’ Lee) is a monument illustrating that Alexandria is the so-called birthplace of the United States. Apparently he used to be in the middle of the road but too many cars hit him. Now he is off to the side next to the sidewalks. Big Ole weighs 8000 pounds and is 28 feet tall. He’s bigger than the building that he stands next to.

We went to Alexandria to visit this statue, and it’s awesome place to visit for the Viking lovers. One of the iconic place in MN. Nice environment and well maintained. You can walk near by the lake. There is also a biking trail as well. Restrooms are also there along a parking lot. The statue is 28 feet tall, petty good for taking pictures.

Every Saturday morning in the summer there’s an Art Market (I Facepaint there) and a big farmers market to enjoy right by big ole. Last year I painted a friend to look like big ole and all the visitors could watch the painting process.

Very peaceful place. Ole is in front of Lake Agnes. Many people were unloading their bikes to enjoy the trails.
Only 3 miles off I-94.

If you are in Alexandria long enough to take a breath, you need to stop in and say hello to Big Ole.
Exhibits & artifacts on Nordic & Native American history & regional wildlife in a historic complex.
As someone who knew NOTHING about the Runestone, I admit this museum did an amazing job educating me not just about the deep history of the Runestone but of other histories as well (of the native Americans in the area)
The museum was great and told the complex history of the Runestone in a way a beginner like me could understand. I appreciated the extra stuff outside which gives context to the city of Alexandria as a whole.
This place is great for families and kids to! Interesting place to stop if your interested in this sort of thing

I visited your lovely museum several years ago, but I am loving that history has evolved to learn about how many more places the Norse actually visited in the "New Land" than previously known.
I feel that this helps your museum greatly.
More Validation in the future.
But we can never forget who's land this was previously.... the great indigenous peoples who were here long before.
Thank you for a lovely visit.
I'll be coming back again❣️

I’ve lived in the area for twelve years and had never visited the museum. I finally visited and found the museum to be quite interesting. The layout takes one through time in the area and many historical facts and events are well done. If one finds oneself with a question of what to do, this should be on your list.

The curator was amazing. So friendly. We took the kids out of school for the day for a field trip from Mankato. They lived the treasure hunt, the games, and they learned so much. And I finally got to lay my own eyes upon the stone. What a great way to spend Yule.

I've taken my family here twice and both times we loved it. The staff is always so welcoming and accommodating. So much work and care has been put into the displays and it shows. This is some of the most important and unique history in Minnesota and is a must-see for anyone and everyone in this state and beyond. I had no idea there were so many more viking artifacts unearthed on Minnesota ground in addition to the iconic kensington runestone itself. Amazing collection of native American items as well.

This was a fun and interesting museum. There was a lot of facts and artifacts to discover both native American and norse. The rune stone was very cool to see. The viking ship section was closed for the season so we plan to come back to see that once it reopens. The woman working the front desk was Shelly. She was a sweetheart. Very nice to talk to. She had a sweet soft voice.

We mustn't forget the past! We MUST preserve it! Not only does this museum have on display the authentic 1362 Runestone, but tells the history of it's finding, the controversy&so much more. There is much to see, hear, touch&learn about many other subjects of the past. You won't be disappointed.

small town “museum”. not really easy to know what is a real artifact and what’s a replica. they don’t care much about this, so, even if they do have some great indigenous pieces, i like more the taxidermy and the everyday items that seems really authentic.
the rune stone itself is interesting: some part history and huge part conspiracy theories. i mean, it’s funny, but not scientific.
they have audio visits BUT don’t allow people to have access to the wifi EVEN if we were the only ones around the whole time.
i loved the plush birds with real cornell university calls that are sold by the shop.

This was a great family place to visit. There is a lot more than the Runestone. There is a pioneer village, American Indian artifacts, local artifacts, a replica viking ship, and more Nordic artifacts. There is activities for kids to do and some games to play. The Runestone is controversial piece of history and was very cool to see in person. Check out the History channel special on it as well as the museum. Don't rely on Wikipedia when finding out information, come and see it in person. Was worth the price of admission.

Great museum with a lot of surprising history packed inside. The story of the Kensington Runestone and the family that discovered it is tragic and oh so interesting. Go for the giant replica Viking ship alone!
