The museum Lewis Miller's Mitchell Collection in Boonville is highly recommended for its informative guided tour. The cars on display are not only spectacular but also a testament to the owner's dedication in restoring them. This hidden gem in the old hometown of Boonville showcases a variety of interesting artifacts and tools, providing an insight into the history of the family business. The Broadway Christian Church organized a group tour, with approximately 25 people visiting this treasure-filled museum.
We visited Lewis Miller's Mitchell Collection in Boonville during my August vacation visiting family in Boonville. The museum is a true hidden gem in my old home town (where my parents still live).

The guided tour was so informative highly recommend. Not only were the car spectacular. Our tour guide was really great on July 19, 2023. Wish I could remember her name. I appreciate all the effort he has put in to restoring these cars. It truly is a labor of love.

Broadway Christian Church arranged a tour of the museum. We likely had up to 25 people go through the museum. The displays were absolutely excellent and spellbinding.

This museum is a treasure! It is well worth scheduling a tour. The cars, wagons, artifacts and tools are so very interesting and the owner has fascinating stories to tell, as this was his family's business.

The Mitchell Museum is a awesome historical place to check out if you are into old cars. Tours are available by appointment only.

Splendid tour guide, friendly and knowledgeable about automobiles and has knowledge of the area. Probably the best I have ever experienced. Highly recommend the tour.

Excellent collection of very rare and unique autos from a hundred years ago. Well worth the visit!

Very interesting collection of old Mitchell cars. Our tour guide made the visit great. Very knowledgable.
The Isle of Capri Casino Hotel Boonville offers a range of gambling options, including slots, video poker, and table games. Guests can also enjoy dining at two different restaurants. The hotel rooms are well-maintained and the staff is friendly, although there have been occasional issues with understaffing. Card tables are typically occupied, but there could be more low-stakes options available.
Small casino but really fun. I wouldn’t recommend the food but casinos are for gambling anyways. Mike is the best dealer, fun, funny and very helpful. I enjoyed playing 2 deck blackjack for the first time thanks to him!

Driving from Denver across the country we stop here twice a year .Been doing this for the last 5 years This year was horrible. After driving for 9 hours we show up at the hotel check in to our room and it was dirty Hairs in sink trash on the floor.Called front desk spoke to Crystal .She was amazing! She sprung into action got us another room right away.Went to new room and it was worse than the first one.Went back to desk and Crystal found us another room and even personally checked it to make sure it was clean. We always looked forward to our stay here as a retreat from the road however given our latest visit I doubt we will be back. The small restaurant has also gone way down hill .Normally there is a line to get food and plenty of options. This year it was deserted and sold out of almost everything.I past on dinner as they didn't have any sandwich left in the mostly empty display case.long story short Crystal was great and made a huge difference and should be acknowledged for great service. Not sure what happened to this place but not worth the drive off from I 70

In general, Isle of Capri is a good casino. I enjoy the games and most of the employees are friendly, but the rooms could definitely stand to be cleaner. I stayed there for one night about a month ago and there were crumbs on the floor and hair in the shower and bath tub. I would recommend the casino for an evening of fun, but not an overnight stay.
Kelly Jo — Google review
Stayed here for a week while visiting from the UK to see friends in Boonville.
The hotel is fine for the price but weeks later I still have not been refunded the surprise 70 dollar deposit taken on check in. I left my room ckean and tidy and I don't smoke so I'd love to hear the reason as to why they've decided to keep it.
Based on that. I'll never stay there again, sure it ain't alot of money but it's the principal.
jona jones — Google review
Big casino experience in little Boonville. Hands down brings 99% of the tourism to our town. The food is good. whether you're eating at the diner or the restaurant, you won't be disappointed. Recommend trying the BBQ burnt ends from Brew Bros. The hotel is what you'd expect from a casino. Super clean rooms, friendly staff, and always packed on the weekends. Since Caesars bought out the isle of Capri the player reward changed pretty dramatically. I no longer get free rooms and I've since stopped using my rewards card. Over all it's what you'd expect out of a casino.
Ben Atkins — Google review
Great place to gamble and stay the night. Hotel rooms are clean and everyone is friendly. Not getting 5 stars because sometimes they are understaffed. The card tables are always full for the most part with some tables not being used. They don’t have a lot of low bid tables either so if your not a low steaks person might want to pass on it. They have two places to eat. Brew Brothers to me is expensive for what it is. Not my favorite place to eat. I rather eat at their small grab and go type kitchen. Their nachos are good and you get a lot of food no matter what you order.
Jacob — Google review
Four stars is a bit generous of me because they weren't in full swing when I was there, but they looked like it would be more fun with a bigger crowd. I didn't do very well playing but I'm not much of a gambler. I did have fun, and although I didn't really win I don't feel cheated by the casino. So all in all, I got what I came for and the place was neat, clean, and in order. If I ever find myself in the area I would consider coming back.
Danny Woodruff — Google review
The room was clean. Beds were very comfortable. We checked in late and left the next morning, so we didn't adventure through the hotel. We will likely make it a stop in our next road trip in that direction. The town seems very quiet and peaceful
Eva Husted — Google review
Entering the room there was a wet spot on the floor and it looked pretty recent. Not sure if that means it wasn’t cleaned well or what. But I got my answer when I opened the dresser drawer, there were a bunch of random plastic bags, a half eaten sleeve of ritz, and some other random trash. Big purple stain on shower curtain as well. Room felt average, apart from those things, the mattress was very comfy, room was spacious. Just a bit gross.
Savannah Treadwell — Google review
We went for our 28th anniversary, and it was fabulous. The room was clean and cared for. Both restaurants and all the food were great. The staff were knowledgeable and kind. I'm glad that we chose to spend the weekend here. We even had a nice time walking trails and the property. It was a nice place and great experience. Definitely recommend this place to have some fun.
Sarah Frey — Google review
We did not stay in the hotel. We were in town for a get away weekend But weather did not allow us to do what we had originally planned. The casino was clean they had different machines than what I had seen in our local casinos. Good time was had by all.
Angie Wolff — Google review
Fun time. Small - but, I like the smaller casinos. I think it has a pretty decent selection of machines. Drink machines are convenient and I like that! Nice place. 😁👍
Jacki L — Google review
Brew bros great food.I usually spend $30-40. I have been to the casino 2-3 times a year x 5-7 years now. Winning is very low , I expect to go home with half the money I brought in. Fun only if you get sizable jackpot to keep playing. Not having to go to ATM frequently. I have had better experiences with other casino’s in st . Louis and Kansas City areas.
I used to get a free room voucher, not anymore. I voted to allow this one in the area. I even applied for a job, without any confirmation that they were still considering me. I expected a few wealthy individuals who won to invest in this area also. Giveaway of items like jewelry, I offered them for this purpose. $1000.00 too high for their advertisement. I want a car, a chance at retirement money. At least money for a decent vacation, costs keep rising but income doesn’t. I made $15 hr in 2015, after 30 years of nursing. Now Columbia pays fast food workers that.
darin debraal — Google review
Definitely not worth $100 a night. Carpet in the room was very stained and the mirrors have not been cleaned for a while. We found previous guests stuff in the drawers. There is no breakfast on Mondays. The beds are hard and the head is lower than the foot. The water was barely warm enough to take a shower. I've had much better rooms at Super 8. Very disappointed and we won't stay here again.
Paula Perry — Google review
1st of all we had our baby Porsche with us. She is a chug which is part Chihuahua and part pug. She is trained very well.
Now back to the hotel...we asked for a pet friendly room. The first room they sent us to smelled so bad that it lingered in my nose for several hours. Now we walked out immediately and requested a different room. It wasn't a king room like we wanted but the smell wasn't too bad.
I used to be a housekeeping supervisor for a hospital and a hotel. There is no way I would allow that smell to remain in the room. For a hotel like this one who would have thought.............
Elizabeth Doyle — Google review
Stayed during the week for my company. Room I stayed in needed a deep clean. Baseboards and carpet shampoo. Service was ok. Was told by 1 staff that the room my company booked for me that i didnt need a card on file, and another staff said they did need my card. Only one place to eat in casino and the food there was good kinda pricey. Vending machines on my floor weren't working. Not the worst place I've stayed.
Guest Capek — Google review
Was very satisfied with the Hotel part. Very very nice! The food was less than satisfactory. The steak and the ribs were flavorful but very tough. The casino machines were very tight. Will I come again? Yes.

Easy to get to. Won and lost but they have a lot of games to choose from. Clean atmosphere. Would return if I was up that way again.

Stopped in Monday and Tuesday to try the chicken at Tradewinds and they are closed. Their website says the are open every day. Not happy to make the trip down twice to find them closed
Isle of Capri responded to my review. They were closed the last two nights due to the weather. I appreciate the response and have updated my review.
I will try back.

Stayed on Friday room was clean and comfortable ate at rest. Service was good had the steak wasn't bad but needs seasoning on it. Now as far as the casino slots are very tight worst that I've played at bartenders were fantastic.

Beautiful mansion, beautiful site but I oops. The gate was open and look to left as usual and did not see private sign. The gate was open and car parked by the entry way. In past aslong as gate open, car at the entry way, it is okay to visit. Today people rules are different. I got locked in the property.
Thomas Kaufmann — Google review
No longer is open to daily public tours. How ever if the Nelson leonard family is contacted, sometimes a large group private tour can be arranged. The mansion has historic family paintings, clothes, dishes, furniture and mementoes owned by several generations of the founding family members. Some dating through out the 1800's into 1900's from around the world. The home and furnishings are in extreme disrepair & worn use by the many generations of family members and pets. So dont expect pristine museum condition or you'll be disappointed. This has been and is a family home. Still decorated and furnished mainly as it was when first built for Mrs. Nadine Leonard by her father Mr. Nelson, a wealthy banker from Boonville, Mo. The farm was in second generation ownership of the Leonard Family when the present home (3rd) was built. The family stories and surroundings give you an insight into the life of a family from the 1800's Missouri country side.
I have always loved Ravenswood Farm and house. My husband was a third generation farm hand to work on the farm., I was a tour guide/ house keeper on and off for almost 25 years. Knowing and working for three generations of the family. We raised or children here and was visited by our grandchildren prior to our retirement and closing of the home. We look forward to seeing all the much needed repairs and improvements being done by the family members in charge of the farm and home now. It is slow progress and expensive. But their love for Ravenswood shows with all their dedicated work.

Beautiful old historical home. Still has orginal furnishings, clothes, dishes ect...of the family the home was built for. Is still owned by the same family that settled it in early 1800's. Unfortunately at this time its closed to the public while the newest genrration of care takers are doing repairs to the home, outbuildings and farm.

Lyceum Theatre
Dinner theater
Concerts & Shows
Enduring, historic theater drawing actors from around the country for its varied productions.
We make a yearly pilgrimage to see an always wonderful, high quality play and get a great meal. Best production of A Christmas Carol I have ever seen! We will be back in the summer, some more great shows coming up! Every show we see at The Lyceum is stellar, never disappoints! We went twice this year! The Adams Family and Bright Star, both enchanting and flawless.
Amy Rice — Google review
We come here quite often to see real people acting out shows. We always have a good time here. It is in a very nice quiet town, not the big city atmosphere. The actors are very knowledgeable about their parts, and always put on a good show, some times after the show you might see them out and about. We have been coming to this theater for a few years now and we enjoy all there is to do and see here.

The performance of Jersey Boys was absolutely amazing today! So much talent and not a bad seat in the house. This is my second time at the Lyceum and it won’t be the last. I love this theater!

I just finished the play for A Christmas Carol, and I have to say I was blown away!! This was my first time to see a live play, and this theater did not disappoint!! The actors were amazing, beautiful voices, and the artwork of the makeup and stage items were great!! I definitely recommend going here if you haven't. I plan on taking my boyfriend here as well and the town is small, but has beautiful stores, a small museum and 2 restaurants I plan on trying as well. I hope you and your family can enjoy it as much as I did!!
Rani Ezell — Google review
I loved seeing the Addam’s Family at the Lyceum. It is a quaint old church, but it is bigger on the inside! The staff do a great job of managing the crowd and the house was packed. The performance was brilliant, engaging, funny, and well cast. There are drinks available at the concession stand (Beer, Wine, soda, water). The bathrooms are clean. There is no official parking lot. Just pull off the side of the road somewhere in town and walk. Very few handicap spots, so if you will need this accommodation get there early.
Started at the visitor center, then enjoyed the hiking trails and finished with a stroll throughout sections of the village. It is a beautiful site to spend a day.
Amanda Williams — Google review
Beautiful area with well maintained properties. Easy to drive around and view if you are unable to walk easily but plenty of nice room to walk.
We happened to be there on a day when most places were closed but it was still enjoyable to see the outsides of the buildings and the park area.
Kimber Duhon — Google review
Hidden gem in the state of Missouri, this is a stop worth making if you are in the area. The theater here is very nice and the food at the local restaurants is pretty solid.
Russ Guajardo — Google review
Their trails are a little confusing but overall I loved going here with my family. The people here are warm and welcoming, they have great areas for children to play and there are some beautiful views.
Jackie Veit — Google review
We spent most of our time at the museum in the visitor center. I found it very interesting and informative. Walking around the historic buildings was also very enjoyable.
Dave Bowmaster — Google review
we were camping off season and this site was very quiet and dark. It was a great place to do some star gazing. Wish I i would have brought my fishing gear to check out the 4 acre lake. The camp sites are typical Missouri state parks sites. Plenty of space between the sites sobyoubare not cramped. The visitors center has a nice museum that has artifacts and dioramas show the history of the area. Give yourself at least 30 minutes if you want to look closely at all the items, of course you can buzz through faster if you want.
Michael Gorzel — Google review
It is a historic theatre in Rochport, MO. It brings excellent live shows with prominent actors. We have been going there for the last so many years. I enjoy Agatha Christy murder mystery shows. Most of the shows are sold out. People come there from different places. I wish they could improve parking.
Gopal Krishna — Google review
Nice secluded park. This felt like a park away from it all. It was clean and green and not crowded. Our only issue was the winding 13 miles of rolling hills on a skinny country road that wasn't meant for large RVs.
Bryan Symons — Google review
We arrived at 4:06 & the visitor center closed at 4, so I can't comment on the visitor center.
The park was nice. Nothing was open in town.
We'd like to go back when the park or town has an event.
Karen Foster — Google review
By far one of the best maintained state parks in Missouri. A short walk from the camp site is a quaint little village with historic sites, ice cream, and diner. So much history surrounds you as you make the hike. The pond nearby is well stocked with fish as well. We caught several bluegill and bass. Wonderful playground for children on the way to the village.
Aaron Mizell — Google review
We camped at the nearby campground only because it was at the stopping point for our travels. We were pleasantly surprised to find this historical village and great visitors center! Next time we will plan to go on a weekend, as a lot of the buildings are closed during the week. Also, they had some hiking trails that we did not have time to explore. Quiet , peaceful area rich in history. Love discovering new places to explore! Don't miss the visitor's center.
Kathleen Tidd — Google review
The first stop overnight for the people heading out on The Santa Fe National Trail. The little town has a couple stores and eateries and an excellent ice cream shop.
Mike McGuire — Google review
The town is NOT wheelchair accessible! There are deep/steep drainage ditches made of very uneven rocks along the streets and the "bridges" are made of thick boards, which are not tapered at the ends, so it might as well be a curb to wheelchair wheels. I was able to see the outside of some of the sites by driving through town, but almost all required going over the uneven rocks, or the "bridges". The visitor center IS accessible from the parking lot on the opposite side of the long bridge from the town, but no HC door button that I saw, even though there is a window sticker saying there is one. Be aware just about everything is closed on Mon/Tues. including the visitor center and most of the stores/shops.

This is a free photo shoot right on the main street. There is a bench and a small park like area there.
This place is very interesting, it has so many tributes to engineers and other workers on the train, that also had many pictures of them and how the depot used to look and how it changed. We brought a friend that was a quadriplegic in a big wheelchair and there was plenty of room to get around! Oh and the two ladies working there were so sweet and helpful!
Rosie Hignett — Google review
The Depot is an old rail stop. You can explore the inside and there are some interesting items inside and outside for young and old. The bike rental/repair shop is closed so if you want to ride the Katy Trail from here to need your own. Bathrooms were still closed and on a chilly day there’s not much to block the wind until you get down the trail. Worth a look and the trail is always nicely maintained.
Sabrina K — Google review
I'm happy I got a chance to stop in to Katy Depot during my stay in Sedalia. It happened to be on my walk across town, and I had time to kill, so I checked it out.
The person working was very kind and informative. She opened up the exhibit area so I could walk through and take pictures. She also found me a brochure on the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival, which I hope to return to Sedalia for.
The gift shop had everything you think of when you think of Sedalia. Books on the town's history, train-themed gifts, magnets, "JamTrak" (yes, Amtrak-themed jam...I love a pun), coffee mugs, etc. Oh, and CDs of ragtime music. I don't have a CD player, but I resolved to enjoy some ragtime music if I can find it on a streaming service.

Very interesting! Filled with memorabilia and history of the building of the railroad and Sedalia. Building was very cool to tour.

This is a fun little historical spot not far from home. Great wheelchair ♿️ the museum is cute, and the train and book area kept my 6 year old very happy.
I was especially proud to see the nod to women in such a rural area.
Deborah AUSTIN — Google review
Cool spot to learn history about the local area including the railroads. Other topics of interest at the depot include Sedalia Civil War history, Scott Joplin, and Missouri Mules. The interior is nicely restored with exhibits, a gift shop, restrooms, etc. There are also a couple of trains outside to climb on.

Awesome old depot dedicated to the Katy Trail! Cool museum too. Souvenirs too. Don’t miss it!!!

Very nice museum/gift shop along the Katy trail. They even have a limited number of bike parts: tubes, patch kit, lights, etc.
They have two hiking trails we love doing them in the spring/fall when the weather is nicer. The playground today looked to be getting demolished ! Hopefully they'll rebuild it
I've never done the tour but there are tours that take you into the actual lodge which you can reserve. Definitely plan and call ahead, they won't do walk-ins. I believe there may be a cost involved with it but I don't know what it is.
Amanda Kennon — Google review
Drove 45 mins to take a tour just to find out the building is only open by appointment. So decided to walk the trails to try and get some use out of my trip. Well the trails are very poorly maintained. The trails themselves are washed out and the trail color indicators are so tattered and cracked you spend more time looking for the markers then enjoying the scenery
Raven Dachiana — Google review
The grounds are scenic. We didn't go inside the lodge, just hiked one of the short trails near the building. If we get back to Sedalia, we will make time to do more exploring.
K O — Google review
A quaint place to walk, hike, or picnic! There are two trails, the Stonyridge trail and the Radiant Trail. I'll include picture of the trailhead markers!
The Radiant Trail says to give 2.5 hours to walk it, but in fair and dry weather, and some gusto, it can be walked in 1.5 hours.
I found a cute turtle on the Radiant Trail as well!
Lindsey Sharpe — Google review
Very interesting building with a unique history surrounded by fantastic scenery. The tour guides were very friendly and have an inhuman amount of knowledge about the lodge's history and can answer just about any question thrown at them.
While you can get your tickets at the door, it's highly recommended to purchase them in advance due to the limited tour sizes.
The only down side as of writing this review is the website. While registering on line has become the norm, the state website is utter garbage and won't give you confirmation that you did register. Save yourself some worry and hassle and call the lodge directly, their phone number is listed on the website, and make your reservation over the phone.

There's not a whole lot to do in Sedalia, so make sure you visit this sensationally preserved historic home. Only $4 for a tour to help Missouri State Parks stay beautiful. Emma was a great tour guide. Fun, informative, worth it.
(Also, pretty sure Mr. Bothwell was actually Bruce Wayne.)

Exquisitely tended local aviation museum. Several examples of locally manufactured aircraft accompanied by historical artifacts from the 1920-1930 period.
Dave Page — Google review
What a pleasant surprise. I was expecting to spend less than a hour here but ended up staying for 2 1/2. There's a ton of history to learn about the local aerospace pioneers Nicholas and Beazley. The exhibits were well done and a few were interactive.
At the start of the museum you start by watching a 10 min documentary about the history of flight and Mr. Nicholas and Mr. Beazley. It was worth the watch and then exploring everything after was fun and informative.
The cherry on top was the children's area. They had so much to experience my little one could've spent 1/2 a day just playing and exploring. There were old cockpits to fully explore and 4 flight simulators to experience. They even had a Dream Flyer motion seat setup with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
I plan on revisiting this museum because of how much there was too see and experience.
11/10 this is a must visit, especially if your looking for something to do in the Marshall area.

Absolutely incredible aviation museum. Prior to visiting, I did not know what to expect. The museum was larger than I expected and has a great collection. As others have suggested, it is an aviation museum that also includes exhibits about WWI and WWII.
Our tour guide, Dave, was outstanding and we really enjoyed the tour.
If you are an aviation or history fan, I highly recommend visiting.

The experience was a great I was able to get in to a not so crowded back end set of camp sites where we set up a cozy spot and had a decent fire, woke up in the morning to some grazing deer with fresh morning dew at a comfortable 60 degrees the morning was fantastic. I saw the deer on the way to the bath house where I was able to shower which is always a nice luxury when tent camping. The showers where spacious and the water was hot with a fairly clean bath house minus some dust build up very clean for a camp ground bath house. We Checked out and hit the road after the showers looking forward in returning to Knob Noster. There is a raccoon bandit. You've been warned.

Great park. Lots of land. A lot of things to do at this park. It is really good to walk through, drive through or just enjoy the view. They have a lake to do some fishing. Maybe you like to take a long hike.

I volunteer here hiking the trails and checking for trees down and doing trail maintenance. This park is awesome. Very friendly staff and twenty miles of trails. I love this place!

Gorgeous park with multiple trail loops. We walked about 4 miles that day. Not all trails are evenly pitched and there's lot of roots thru some so I would recommend chest carriers for little littles, not a stroller. Wildlife was all around and the trails were all pretty decently marked.

Surprising camping experience for scouts. The special use area was large, in great shape, well manicured. We also had access to they kayaks which we rented for the day Saturday, and the wondering Naturist instructed our scouts on local flora and fauna as to what grew, was edible, and how to prepare it..

The camping areas were well-maintained except for the rowdy raccoons. Somebody actually complained of a left a banana out and it disappeared. Lol.
Campsites were pretty level and they weren't squished in. People were pretty quiet it was very shaded. Bathrooms we clean and stocked with toilet paper and soap throughout the day.
there are several very nice hiking trails of various types. Most are 1-2 miles except for one 7 mile one. They have small lakes for fishing one of the lakes great for kayaking or small electric motor boats.
We'll be back.

This place has tons of fishing locations, biking/hiking trails, camping locations, lakes, and a lot of wild life to see! hiking trails range from 1.5 to 5.5 miles from what i saw there. This place is great to bring your family for fishing or the playgrounds. Dog owners can also have their dogs however they must be leashed. I would also recommend bug spray and a bag of supplies if you are hiking the longer trails around the park.

Not where we intended to stay originally, but they were pretty much the only place open before the spring season and offered plenty of fishing and hiking. Since it was during the off season we didn't expect much, however they still had a restroom in the form of a permanent outhouse and up the road is Casey's, McDonalds, and dollar general. Sinclair's has fire wood if needed during the off season. At the Clearfork Trail fishing area they have flushing toilets up the hill, as well. During the regular camping season there are showers, bathrooms, and running water. There are plenty of spaces with and without electricity and even spots where a family can park multiple cars and hook up more electricity for a cheaper price (double camping spaces essentially). It was a happy surprise, for sure 😃!

Beautiful with lots of trees. Spaces have plenty of room, and there are great trails to hike. Just wish they had water hook ups at each site.

Great park, good size campsites, and hiking or kayaking are available around a small pond! Have been quite a few times now and enjoyed every time! We use a tent and not an RV, but be aware there are a ton of RV's and the cacophony of AC units running can be a distraction from the quiet of camping.
Ice and wood are available for purchase and all of other people have been considerate and polite. Would recommend to anyone who wants to get out for a couple of days of easy camping!

One of, if not the, best winery in MO! The lady that helped us with our tasting let us sample several of their wines and was very generous on the pricing. She has the best witty humor and is super charming. The wine itself is absolutely delicious and we came in just wanting a bottle and left with 4. I cannot recommend this place more! Do yourself a favor and try their wine, and you'll certainly leave happy - and you may spot their kitty too!

Disappointed in Arrowhead Red. After learning from the co-owner that they fly in juice from New York to give Arrowhead it's sweet flavor, just disappointed. They do not grow their own Concord. The Sangree is the same taste as Arrowhead only peach infused and less sugar. BBV does have a good selection of drys that are nice, a small scale winery with about 7 acres, I expected a true Concord from their own design in the Midwest.
I've had wines from IA, MO, and AK so far, and the great majority of wineries all grow their own Concord. Their Norton and Encore are winners! Visited 4/10/2021. I gave a 3-Star review for their quaint hidden gem appeal and tasting room attendant, but their best seller is not their own creation.

Wines run toward the sweeter styles. Friendly helpful staff. We preferred their whites over their reds.
Store selling boots, Western wear & decor in a large, rustic space with hundreds of mounted animals.
Great place to stop on a road trip. Massive selection of boots and western clothing. Friendly staff also.

Ordered some boots online and when I got them, they were all scuffed and had scratches on them. They didn’t have the same boot in the same size and told me to basically polish them. Shouldn’t have to polish brand new 200 dollar boots out of the box.

Ryan was awesome help and very patient with my daughter but the cashiers literally argued over who would check us out, didn't bag the boxes of boots we bought and just walked away after I gave payment. Please teach these kids manners and customer service. It was our first time here and I'm not sure if we will return.

Found a great pair of boots, staff was friendly. To note, they are not paid a commission and therefore don't stay with you to help you find the right items. My husband did not find anyone to help h get the jeans he was looking for so we left without those.

Being from Texas, I always love a cowboy store. I was in Missouri visiting and had to stop by. The place is huge and they do have it all. All types of boots (western, riding, work) and jeans and hats and all kinds of shirts for work or fancy. I picked up a pair of boots, Wranglers, earrings for my daughter, and some other stuff. While I was there, I noticed a sign for a bullriding rodeo in Sedalia, and it was that night! After I changed into my new boots, we headed off to Sedalia for the rodeo. Thank you, Kleinschmidt's.

Love love love that they have layaway! Have a good selection! I wish they had buy one get one free instead of buy one get on 50%off or buy 2 get one but oh well. Most of their employees are pleasant, not all but most! We've have spent SSSOOO much money there past 4 years, they have good selection and can order most everything! They are alot better than the store in Sedalia I won't mention!

We do realize we went on a very busy weekend, shop small Weekend, but at 4pm on that Saturday, the store was destroyed, clothes everywhere, broken racks on the floor as a trip hazard, boxes over the windows, more like a dig through warehouse than a high class western store. It had been a year since we had been back since the last time. The employees were so rude and not helpful, definitely not a hometown feel. Same coats in the same place as a year ago, same warehouse look. Found several items with no price and don't dare ask, or you get looked at like it's a pure hassle. Isles are so tight that only 1 person down them at a time. It's not the same friendly hometown place I shopped at as a teenager and young adult, I am sure the previous owners are embarrassed since their name is still on the building, I know I would be. The girl who runs it is not friendly, and the rumor mill says not nice to work for either. We even looked for basic work jeans. The Ariat rack was empty.. so sad to see just an iconic store run into the ground over greed. I'll pray the owners reads this and actually stops and takes a look around. If you still have the same inventory you had a year ago in a store of that capacity, you are not buying the right inventory your customers want. Instead, you are buying high-class western that the average blue-collar person does not buy. Stop thinking about yourself and think about your old customers, the ones you don't see anymore since you don't carry the basics.

Price gougers, unscrupulous business practices. Scammers! I put a boot in my cart like I was going to buy it, on the summary page it show the cart sub total, a 20% discount, a promo discount, the shipping cost ( out of state). I then call about a boot they didn’t stock, Cole the man who I talked to, called me back and quoted me a price. A couple of days later I sent an email telling them if this was the price I would buy the boots and wanted a delivery date. When Cole emailed me back the price of the boot had increase $40 he said he miscalculated and he wanted to charge $16 for out of state shipping and not give me the promo code discount. Before I replied I went to their webpage and verified everything I said. My reply stated that I would pass for the reason mentioned above. I documented everything so Kleinschmidts really doesn’t have a leg to stand on. I suggest you take your money and run to a more reputable business before shopping at Shysters Are Us.

Probably the biggest and best Western clothing store you will ever find. Boots? The most cowboy boots or work boots in one building you will ever see. Gorgeous women's Western wear!!!!!
Carol Copeland — Google review
YeeHaw Y’all. Grandma prefers her men to be tall and handsome so I try to at least be tall with those large healed cowboy boots. Every time we see a sign for someone selling boots, we stop. This one is a bit different than the rest. They have literally everything a conservative, western, hard working man could want. They have boots (of course) FR clothing, western fancy and western casual wear. Toys for the kids, jewelry for grandma, friendly staff, animal heads all over the place, huge hat selection and the friendliest staff you’ll ever meet. Also, every single shelf and rack is in order. Easy to find your size and cut. Listen, if you’re within 250 miles you MUST stop and see this place. It’s like Disney for adults but be careful, it may end up costing you as much as Disney and not cause the prices are high but because they have it all. Oh and grandma wants me to mention their clean restrooms and good smelling soap. Thanks Kleinschmidt’s and thank you Grandma’s Visa. Daddy’s turning heads.

Karee is confused, she walked many of the paths surrounded by wooded areas and found only large limestone masses and some overhangs at the ends of the paths with some paths going around much of the limestone, but throughout all of what was explored, she found no caves..
Do most humans not know what caves are?
Do said humans think outcrops and overhangs of rock with walkable space bellow them are caves?
Outside of the disapointment of there seemingly being no actual caves in the area, the hopefully natural limestone rocks and flourishing forest hollow was relaxing and lovely feeling to walk through and rest with for the Karee fluff.

Took the whole family here for a hike and some time at the park. The falls are not around this time of year and someone has defaced parts of the rock. But its a nice place to get lost and walk.
We are staying here in the camping area in a full hook- up site, which is nice. We debated going on for food based on mixed reviews but we did and it was very good. I did a wine-tasting and hubby tasted a couple beers. We ordered a pizza that was delicious! I mentioned the mixed reviews to the gal working and she said they had a bad cook for awhile who is no longer there. So in short, don't be afraid to give them a try. We were happy with it and I'm sure you will be as well. BTW, the grounds are beautiful!

This place... what can I say, I want to write a great review because it is such a beautiful venue, but I cannot. My husband and I came in today to celebrate Mother's Day and paid ahead of time online for their Mother's Day buffet. First, there were no signs and you have no idea where to go. When we finally went into the right bldg, a young child checked us in and said nothing. So, we looked around and saw people standing near 4 metal warming buffet dishes on a small table. We headed over, where we got a styrofoam plate and plastic utensils. The salad was just wilted greens, nothing else at all with squeeze bottle dressings. Then onto the main meal, uncooked spaghetti noodles (fettuccine was what was advertised), red marinara sauce with a ton of oregano, another container filled with white soup with chicken pieces floating around the bottom. The one thing that I can say that was good was the fresh bread with butter, but that's it. I have had better food in boot camp in military basic training. For $25.00 per person, I expected edible food and maybe even a drink. Drinks were not included at all, that was an additional cost. Honestly, we would have paid more money per person to have a quality meal on Mother's Day with each other. The atmosphere was beautiful, even though there was a lot of construction going on, the lake and outdoor seating was nice.
Aspen Oilers — Google review
I realize some of the reviews aren't favorable to this spot but give them a chance. There is some construction making the space for patrons smaller than expected but the atmosphere is great. There was live music and lots of people having a great time. They are extremely short staffed, we didn't have a set waitress we had who ever was free at the moment. The food was good, it took longer than expected to get to us but it was worth the wait and in the meantime we enjoyed the music and beer/wine. We used them as a harvest host as well and it was very quiet, there were probably 15 of us out there. Understand if you go soon there might be a wait and it might not meet perfection but give them a shot and have some grace they were working hard but kept smiles on their faces the entire time! I'd go back for sure!

Let me first say that I have visited this winery many times. The wine is decent and the pizza better. But it has always been dirty and poorly maintained every time. However, we still gave it another shot for their special Mother’s Day buffet. Big, big mistake! The $25 buffet consisted of the cheapest food available—spaghetti noodles, bland marinara, water called Alfredo sauce, a salad of only greens, and white bread. All served on styrofoam plates with plastic silverware. It was one of the worst meals I have ever had, let alone paid $25 a head for! The place is under construction with trash and materials strewn all over the place. It was so sad and frustrating that this event was even attempted when they obviously take no pride in their place that could be so much more but not with the food and service they provided. It was all appalling to say the least. Clean up and don’t ever try to host a special meal again as your standards are beyond sub par!

Had enjoyable experience prior. Confusing where service is located with the new building. We were not greeted well initially and passed off. Service was scattered though she was friendly. The pizza we had was not as good as it was previously. Chicken seemed very processed. Unfortunate that they were out of a couple of their wine and drink menu options. Hoping a fluke but also need to be better.

This is sad I’ve been here in the past and spent a lot on food and wine. So when I see they are doing a Mother’s Day meal “ buffet” I figured it will be amazing plus when I called he said it would be $20 a person and they would have a Mimosa and bloody marry bar. However he can sell the the tickets you have to use an app . So I do that and it actually cost $25 per person to cover the fee. So when my self and party of 8 show up to dine there are no signs and we expect it to be on east side of building with the pretty view. ..Nope in the construction zone building because that make sense. So first I find out that mimosa and Bloody Mary bar is an additional $20 per person…..WHAT! That would have brought my grand total from $200 to $360 no thank you. Food was horrible cheap spaghetti noodles some uncooked. An ok marinara sauce and tan colored water with chicken pieces in the bottom. The salad was wilted lettuce with your choice of two dressings and some white bread. So does that sound like buffet not so much. I had to apologize to the wonderful mothers in my group they deserved better. We spoke with owner who showed to remorse for ripping off patrons.

Great spot, easy access, level and nice parking. They have but are not brewing beer as well have a couple wines they make on site. It was a bit disorganized inside but all in all the service and HHs were very nice. Recommended indeed.

We have been here before, wife loves the wine and alfredo so we stopped again. Live music was ok, always too loud for the small area but some groups think louder makes it better (hint: nope). I would listen to them again (they are to return 07/22/23 I think). As for the food. Went with the $15 cheese burger, fries were another $2 so I went with the included salad. Not sure what kind of salad that was but didn't touch any of it. Appeared to be 99% spinach leaves and chunks of onion. So examine the photo below for a $15 cheeseburger (before tax/tip), had to go back inside to get mustard/ketchup for the burger. Wife had a glass of wine and we never saw our waitress again for the next hour we were there. no follow up, nothing. Water glass empty and wine empty, I know they get busy but it's just poor time management, they had plenty of help, just not organized. Could had been so much better, maybe next time.

The place looked great, and the reviews were good enough for me to stop by to try it out.
However, the way and manner the attendant took so long to:
1. Notice my presence, and
2: Tend to me after I walked up to her to inform her u needed to be tended to, and then went ahead to attend to a group of guests who had to walked in.
I really hope it was a one off and not a typical behavior here.
I will stop by sometime in the future to confirm what this was about and update my review accordingly.
Historic home, gardens & orchards that were the site of a 3-day Civil War battle, open for tours.
Very nice Visitor Center. Informative video regarding the battle and why it is important. Recommend viewing it first. It gives a good background to then fully understand the museum and viewing the grounds. They have Anderson House tours, but we were there too late to go inside.

If you are travelling / passing by, one hour is enough to visit the entire place and learn about facts and history.

The staff and volunteers here are very helpful and knowledgeable. We were driving to Lexington to donate some period appropriate items for the Anderson House. Chris Fritsche and Carla Strain were fantastic! They accommodated our crazy schedule, as well as unloaded the items for us due to my husband's mobility issues. Plus, they listened to his stories.

My wife and I visited this place the other day and walked around it just looking over the old home. It was really crazy to see all the bullet holes in the front of the house and to imagine what everyone went through that night. It does look like the home needs some maintenance to keep it going, and we suspect that at some point, it will likely be gone due to the dilapidation that is starting. It is an awesome piece of history, to say the least, and a must place to visit.

Botanical park with gardens, an indoor conservatory,
seasonal festivals & a kid-friendly food farm.
After having lived here for thirty years, I finally bought a membership last year. I try to go twice a month during blooming season. It's just a beautiful, relaxing walk. Even on hot days, there are plenty of benches and tree cover to keep us cool. The garden isn't dog-friendly, but they do allow ESAs (with proper documentation). It's fun to chat with locals and visitors from all over, too. A little piece of heaven in our corner of the world. We're lucky to have this attraction.

We received a guest pass for Christmas. What an incredible gift! Today's weather was perfect for exploring the spectacular gardens, grounds, paths, and exhibits. The orchids alone are worth the trip! But you'll enjoy far more...sculptures and artwork, daffodils, hostas, snowdrops, redbuds, oaks and maple trees, hydrangeas, and so much more. You can stroll, sit, ride a golf cart (extra $), push a stroller or wheelchair, or hold hands with your sweetheart. Whether you go alone to journal and sketch or to behold the beauty of creation with others, you won't be disappointed!

Not going to lie, got a bit cold at times but the warming centers definitely helped us keep going. Waited about 20-30 mins to see Santa. I recommend going with 2 adults, one can stand in line while the other takes kid[s] inside the children's center where it's warm and they can write their letter to Santa. Might make this a yearly trip!

Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring a jacket forsure as it cooled off quite a bit. It's a fun venue in the woods. The hot apple cider was very good. Nachos looked yummy. Quite a few different things on the menu. A good selection of beer and wine as well. Loved the Firepits they a nice touch. Great views from the tower overlooking the Gardens. As far as the Dark Forest it was really well done. It's an immersive light show with a few characters in the path dancing. My wife struggled with the mile long walk. She would of liked to of had a bench somewhere to rest. She toughed it out though. It was a little confusing figuring how to get out of that place. Not enough signage or attendant's helping with that. Overall it was a fun experience. A little pricey but the propane alone probably cost them a thousand a night. Worth the visit.

Hands down the best Zip line in the KCMO area. This family ran operation is top notch and they welcome you as if you are part of their family. Great lines and a neat history about their farm. Plus my guide was the super cute country girl that is very easy on the eyes. Would highly recommend and will be going back for an evening zip.

Omg so much fun! I am afraid of heights and this was great for me! Came with my brother and 2 boys and everyone had a blast. The owners are such amazing people! Full of stories and very heart felt and fun! Very true American good people! If you ever want a wholesome good time this is THE BEST place to come! Very easy to maneuver and the owners are very patient and good at easing you if you are afraid of heights. Lol. Screw Branson and come here instead, the experience is waaaay better!!!

Awesome experience. They treated us very well. Great tour and history on this property but the family that runs it makes it worth the drive from Olathe, Ks. Definitely will be coming back soon!!! Thank you so much.

My first time zip lining was amazing! I couldn't have asked for a better experience from a family owned business. The staff/family connected with the entire group and even told us unique stories about the poperty. But moat importantly the zip lining experience was riveting! It is completely worth the drive to Rayville!!!
I had a very good experience at the Civil War museum. I knew very little of the Civil War skirmishes that happened in Lone Jack and the surrounding towns. There was a lot more activity between the North and South than I thought.
The people operating the museum are volunteers and they are all very knowledgeable. The first day I visited it wasn't very busy. Don Pedigo, took me on the tour and explained how and where the battles took place. His stories were riveting. I felt like an observer as the battles raged around me.
They also have an Escape Room. It has gotten many good reviews. I can't wait to try it.

The old man made it perfectly clear through his demeanor and body language that they do NOT take debit cards, because "the machine is messed up" (I'm assuming he doesn't know how to use it). So I took my FIVE excited children and walked away. He said "well, I can try it I guess" as we were leaving...it's okay. We got the hint. Super disappointing, this guy watched 5 excited kids run up to the museum entrance and then basically acted like helping us was the biggest burden in the world. It's 2023, you should take cashless options.

Great little museum specific to the actual events dealing with the Battle of Lone Jack. Informative and well kept.

Whether you are a history enthusiast, or just someone who needs something to do and are in or near loanjack, I highly recommend this little treasure.
You can honestly spend just 30 minutes here or a whole day. Either way you will learn something new. Don't let it's size fool you big things come in this small package.
The Docents here know their stuff and if you are not careful they will bring you down a great rabbit trail of wonderful story telling of history.
If you are a home schooler this is a must! All in all I rate this 5+ out of 5.

Don't let the size fool you, there is a lot of history packed into this uniquely round building! The attendant was VERY informative and gave us a lot of tidbits not found in history books. My 9 year old really enjoyed seeing all the old weaponry, and the dioramas gave a more detailed look at life during the civil war.

My family and I do the escape room every year, and they never cease to amaze. You would think there's only so much you can do in a 2 room building, but they do an amazing job. The museum is set up well also. The people there are very warm and personable as well. Highly recommend
Reconstructed 1800s fort/trade center with costumed actors portraying daily life.
At the time before The War of 1812, this was the westernmost fort that monitored trappers and settlers venturing their way west while they had a very good trade business with the Indians. It has people acting the parts and they are very knowledgeable!

If you like to experience a location where you can see, touch and feel "life two hundred years ago", then visit this place.
This place is more than native people or federal Gov treaties. You see touch and feel life two centuries ago.
With their permition, i took pictures of two employees dressed to present their life in that era.
Very nice facility with rare exhibits.
My favorite is a two hundred years old tree trunk canoe. See uploaded pictures.
The museum is worth a visit !!

Wonderful experience. My kids and their cousins like pretending that they were part of the fort. The museum was impressive with lots of information for it being smaller.
The lookout looks like it needed some trimming. You couldn't really see the river very well. That's the only thing I really saw that could be improved.

Wonderful time with the family. So much great living history. The living history actors were very knowledgeable and nice. The museum was great!

Found it by following signs, a couple years ago, but looked like too much walking for my wife, so drove away. Just me, yesterday, so free to explore this restoration of the largest frontier trading post in the early 1800's. The visitor center has a 5min introductory video, small gift shop, & restrooms on main floor (wheelchair accessible), with an elevator to their museum below. $8/adult & $4 for seniors & kids, then out the back to walk to the fort & trading post. There are modern restrooms out there, with an exterior which matches the rest of the 200 year old fort. There are docents to answer questions, & probably guard the items on display in the trading post, etc. That building appears as a 2-story, but there are 2 more floors built down into the bluff, which the original occupants used as a tanning (fur/skin removal) shop & more "temperature controlled" storage. The Fort has barracks, blacksmith shop, lookout posts, & officer's quarters. No elevators or ramps to anything off ground level.

Took two scout troops to do the overnight with Lewis and Clark experience. All I can say it was awesome. Three workers Chris, Mike and Patrick was great. They put in a lot of effort from feeding us when we got there, to making sure we were safe during a storm. The kids enjoyed the tour of the fort and factory. The museum also was great. I would recommend stopping by this fort for a visit and if you are in scouts do the overnight experience. Your scouts will love this.

We came back into town to visit family and decided to take the family out to Fort Osage. The last time I visited Fort Osage was probably in 1992. Needless to say there’s been a ton of improvements since I last visited.
There’s now a beautiful visitor center that has great displays and lots of great information about about the force history as well as the areas history.
The grounds are very well up kept and it’s a fun visit when you get to learn a lot and see any part of history.
The only reason we didn’t give it five stars is that in some of the towers there’s some wasp nests that probably could be cleaned out, but then again it is Missouri, ha ha!!!

Very nice reconstruction of an early 1800's western frontier fort. I was there on a day when some reenactors were demonstrating period cooking and food preservation. Well worth your time!
mark babcock — Google review
Muster day was good. The blacksmith and the store owner were our favorite parts! Very informative!
We also enjoyed the ladies who were spinning wool! Though it was a little confusing why they weren't "playing the time period" like the other "actors". They kept talking about their farm and they really meant *THEIR farm*.
The fort itself was really neat to get to walk into. The kids liked being able to walk up and down the ladders.
There was a Jr. Ranger book. It was vague in parts, but I assume that this book is used at multiple Lewis & Clark stops.

Very interesting museum. A bit of history no one would ever remember unless they were a buff. Washington wanted a factory system to trade fairly. Great reenacted tour.
It’s hard to hang on to any type of stress whatsoever when hanging out with these four-legged furry imports from South America. Smaller and gentler than llamas, alpacas are extremely good-natured and, as long as you’re feeding them, amenable to being petted. And what an incredible deal at $10 for a two-hour tour experience. Very nice couple owns and showcases the farm of 50 critters. Ends with an interesting, hands-on demonstration of machines used to straighten and turn alpaca wool into fabric. We also got to see a white three-day-old alpaca born prematurely, which was kept inside. NOTE: The tour includes a fair amount of monologue, including about 50 minutes in a seating/staging area at the beginning of the tour, before you go outside to spend 20 minutes or so interacting with the animals and return inside for the machine demos. Important to know if you have small children.

My granddaughter and I spent the morning with Yaya and his wife and it was very enjoyable. He tells his story and educates the visitors about alpacas and their wool. The education area is very clean and cozy and includes a gift shop. Following the indoor experience with a few alpacas, we go outside to feed the rest of the herd, about 40 in all as well as cute babies. We then return inside to see how they process their wool which is a fun experience. This is definitely worth the $10 to go no matter what age you are. It's fun for all.

The owners did a good job explaining things. And a fabulous job of including everyone in tour. Was very interactive with kids and made sure to make them feel comfortable around the Alpacas. The tour is very affordable and worth it. Great tour for kids and adults.

We had to beat time ever. The owners are so friendly and funny. You learn a lot and get up close and personal with all the alpacas. There is a great gift shop. You'll be amazed at their artist talents. You really should check it out. Make sure to make your reservations in advance. Oh, and the weaving fur on the loom was beyond cool

Visited over the weekend with our family and we had the best time! Great value for the ticket cost and handmade Alpaca goods. They teach you about the Alpacas and YaYas journey on how it came to be which I really enjoyed it's humble beginnings. The alpacas are well cared for and the children even learn how to create out of the Alpaca hair for a textiles hands-on approach to the journey. Would love to return again! The wife and husband have big hearts and are on a mission to enlighten and bring smiles to families for memories to come. Thank you!

We went here for a field trip today. It was so much fun and really educational! We are in a unit about different types of farms so we might have found it more educational than normal but it was really interesting! The alpaca farmer is really knowledgeable! As part of the tour the kids were able to help make some fabric out of alpaca fur and we fed the alpacas! This is a great place for a field trip!!

Honestly, the best way I can describe it is magical. They have over 60 alpacas, and one or two llamas. We visited on Christmas Eve and it was wonderful. The products they offer are extremely soft (made with alpaca wool), and fairly priced. Definitely coming again next year!

What an amazing experience! Best part of our trip to KC! We learned so much from Mr. and Mrs. Yaya and there were so many alpacas to meet and feed. They do a great job of making sure that kids have an engaging, hands-on experience. (It's not just for kids though, my husband and I had a great time by ourselves!) Would highly recommend to everyone!

Went with my two kids, ages 10 and 12. This is one of the best experiences we have done in the greater KC area. YaYa and Mrs. YaYa are so friendly and good with the kids. They teach you a lot about the alpacas first, then you get to feed them, then you get to learn about making fabric with their fibers. Highly recommend! Not the best for extremely little ones who can't sit still and listen because it is a small intimate tour and that can be distracting to other visitors.
Jill Hertzog — Google review
It was a very pleasant experience visiting Yaya's Alpaca farm. Mr. and Mrs. Yaya were very welcoming and gave a very informative farm tour. The alpacas were absolutely amazing, friendly and obviously hungry for treats. Kiddos had a great time. Will recommend to anyone looking for a break from daily hustle and bustle.
I came here the other day with friends and it was really interesting and informative! It gives a complete history of the Hall of Waters when it was a health and wellness spa and with lots of information to read, and also the spa area you can explore and check out which looks pretty awesome! The place is also a perfect example of Art Deco style with really cool Mayan influences! The only negative thing I can say is that you can’t actually try or see any of the waters because the springs have been shut off for now! That was very disappointing because I would love to be able to try these “healing” waters!!
Todd Conis — Google review
Not a lot to see, I think they've shut part of it to the public due to safety concerns, but still a fascinating place! History and architecture on beautiful display. It's a great 20 minute stop when you're in town!
Caroline Bishop — Google review
The building was long ago converted into city hall and while the structure is still there, you have no access to the real historic portions, including the pool and the large water bar (the cool-looking room in the photos), which has been mothballed and is falling into disrepair. You can see it in it's dilapidated condition from the second floor balcony.
The city hall workers seem put out by guests in the building (so sorry we went out of our way to visit), there is no signage leading you to a small, sad museum on the second floor, and the city doesn't seem to care about the history that made it a destination many decades ago.
Maybe worth stopping by if you're that interested in history and are already planning a trip through town, but otherwise don't bother.

Beautiful place, and very intriguing history. I wish the whole building was open to the public and the springs were still accessible.

The Hall of Waters sits in the heart of the downtown of Excelsior Springs. A WPA Project, cost for the building at the time was the most expensive in the country, at one million dollars. The building now acts as the City Hall and also houses the community’s visitors center. The community is currently in the process of trying to save the building and restore the space economically through tourism and business. It has been recognized by the National Trust as a space needed to be saved.

Very interesting history and architecture. But, if you expect to see actual water in the Hall of Waters, you're going to be a bit disappointed. This might change in the future. Seems like they were interested in restarting some of the wells, but right now, all they have is the architecture and the history panels.

The Hall of Waters is loaded with retrospective photographs and dioramas. I found the staff person helpful and well-informed. This place has lots of history to learn, also. They’re trying to bring back actual mineral water sales, too. I support!

Such amazing history here. I'm glad to see it has been preserved for others to see. Take your time and read up. Lots of info to learn and see here.

The Hall of Waters is significantly geologically, commercially and medically as the site of the first spring water discovered in 1880, the Siloam Spring. At that time, it was the only natural supply of ferro-manganese mineral water in the United States and one of only five known worldwide. Truly such a beautiful site to see, if you are near you need to see this beautiful building, and definitely bring the kids for a decent history tour and little museum experience that will definitely make a memory that will last even though it’s a small 15 minute experience.

Campground & 100-acre lake featuring a textile mill & living-history farm, plus a biking path.
I had been here about 40 years ago and don't remember there being a visitors center. And this visitors center is VERY impressive. It contains numerous authentic artifacts, historical narratives, and a wealth of educational materials. The site offers tours, but visitors are welcome to walk the grounds on their own. Touring the inside of the mill requires a tour.

The park is well kept.

We've camped here years ago and the sites were good. So nice you can visit for the day for free! The 3.75 Mike loop around the lake is perfect for going kids to bike, a few spots at the bottom of a hill where the bridge has a spot that a training wheel could get stuck, there are warning signs for bumpy roads so doable. The changing rooms at the beach could have been cleaner. The bike trail doesn't take too long so great half day adventure to binge and then swim to cool off. No lifeguard but there are life saving tools available. Not much shade at the beach just a couple spots but in the grass up a ledge. The depth gets deeper pretty gradually so you won't suddenly not be able to touch it does get to about 6' at the yellow barrier. Kids were about to make a decent sand village.

Watkins Mill State Park is a fascinating and serene place to visit. I was impressed by the well-preserved Watkins Woolen Mill, which is a National Historic Landmark and a state historic site. The mill offers guided tours that showcase the original machinery and the history of the Watkins family and their workers. The park also has a six-acre lake where you can swim, fish, or boat. The lake has a paved bicycle path around it, which is perfect for a leisurely ride or a walk. The park also has four hiking trails that offer views of the rolling farmland, the wooded hills, and the wildlife. The park has a campground with both basic and electric sites, as well as modern restrooms and hot showers. The park staff was friendly and helpful, and the park was easy to find and access. Watkins Mill State Park is a great place to learn about the past and enjoy the present. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a historical and relaxing vacation.

A wonderfully amazing place. Beautiful grounds. Lots of folk, including families were out enjoying the path. Some jogging, some strolling, others biking. A really nice place to paddle a kayak or canoe which is what I did on this visit.
Met a local kayak fisherman, Darryl, who told me this was one of his favorite places to paddle and fish in the area.
Really neat little historical spot. The short film was interesting and gave good context for the rest of the tour. The museum was full of cool artifacts that me and my family enjoyed checking out. The house was only a short walk away and was well worth the 3 minute hike. For only 9 dollars I'd say it's well worth your time and cash.

The tour started with a 20 minute informative video that gave a great background to who Jesse James and his family was. Then we walked through the museum that was filled with tons of information and great artifacts. Then we walked around the house, outhouse, and slave quarters. Our tour guide Brenda followed us out there and gave an amazing background and was so kind! She knew so much about the site and answered all of our questions with great understanding. Our family of 6 had a great time and recommend this to anyone with a love for history! You can’t go into the home due to past issues with vandalism but the viewing areas give a great view! Special shoutout to every staff person we interacted with- they were all kind and helpful!! Cost is adults are $9, kids are $5.50 and seniors are $8!

My son has a research paper on a famous Missourian. We chose Jesse James because we might be related somehow distantly and we had already been to one of his hideouts over the summer, meramec caverns. Plus everyone's probably going to do Truman or Mark Twain.
We got so much Hands-On experience! Met so many amazing people. We got bought a book and got to have it signed because it happened to be the 200 year anniversary of the cabin the author was there and Jesse James great-granddaughter!
All the workers were so helpful and loved that my son was doing a research project. They made sure to give him pointers on what to see and who to talk to! We had a blast! So worth the nine bucks!! Zane was actually free (eight and under are free.)

This was very fun and interesting. My uncle was working for the county and was one of the men that went to the Jesse James Farm and bought it from his relatives to make it into the museum that it is today my great great grandmother lived right across the street from Jesse James went to school with him when they were little and took the American flag and made into a shirt for him. She later went to jail for doing it.

The area is beautiful and they have made excellent walking paths that guide you along the different sites. The museum part has a lot of things in it and was very informative. It’s well worth the stop. We did the self guided tour per our request as we have a special needs son that likes to wander about at his own pace, but the staff appeared to also be giving tours as well and made a point to ask if we had questions about anything while they were with another group of people.

We almost did not visit here as we arrived early in the morning before the official opening. Please note there no safe place to park nearby if the property gates are locked. We went to see some other things and then realized we were still close by and it was now open. The entry fee is not cheap. However, if you have at least a minimum interest in USA Western History the admission price is well worth it. Do not forget to buy an "authentic" stone from Jesse James' "grave". The museum is much bigger and detailed than the size of the building housing it suggests. The gift shop is very complete and sells many history guidebooks. It was very wet and drizzly day. This did not hinder the staff from giving us a very good tour of the James family farmstead.
We visited May 2023.

We had a great time on our tour & the tour guide that we had for our group (we were split into 2 groups) was fantastic! She never made us feel like we were misbehaving (because we were & we're all over the age of 40! Lol!) and she stayed on track, as well as repeated information because some of us were either checking something else out that caught our eye or we were just talking. Kudos to the tour guides & ours MOST ESPECIALLY & although I cannot remember her name, she knows who she is! The house was beautiful & it was so Extremely cool that we could actually sit on the furniture & carefully touch historic items, to learn about the paintings & the history behind them. My personal favorite was the unfinished 3rd floor...wow!! The architecture is just phenomenal! My other favorite room was the kitchen/walk-in chiller room. Such great history. Kinda ironic that my 2 favorite places were for the servants back in the day. This was 1 of 2 things my Aunt Marsha wanted to do on her 70th birthday & thank you to the staff for helping make her day even more special.

Bingham-Waggoner Estate complex goes back to 1850's. The home has historical architecture, artifacts and stories that seem to come alive we we took a tour with a wonderful volunteer guide. The estate is maintained by efforts from good samaritans, volunteers and community. We attended a wedding and the ambience with lush green grand old trees, some blooming with flowers, and pleasant scents of outdoors were a treat to the senses. The interior is a little staid, could do better with maintenance and humidity control, all depending on lining up sufficient resources. Thank you for preserving this important landmark.

We were traveling and stopped in Independence to spend the night. The last tour of the day had already started when we arrived but they graciously allowed us to join. Our tour guide, Ms. Dana Thomas, was delightful. The house itself is magnificent. Three stories of gorgeous wood, furnishings and art. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect being that 90% of the furnishings and items on display date from about 1900 during the time the original Waggoners owned the home. Not sure I would put the home ahead of the Truman Library and Museum as a place to visit but it is definitely a don't miss for anyone looking for history in Independence.

The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The home is so beautiful! They have worked very hard on raising the money to put the original furniture into the house.

National Frontier Trails Museum is a museum in Independence, Missouri, that tells the history of the three great western trails - the California, Oregon and Santa Fe Trails. The museum features exhibits on early fur trappers and traders, Lewis and Clark's explorations, and the reasons why people headed west to settle. It also has an artifacts exhibit, original covered wagons, diaries and letters from the time period, an award-winning film theater, a children's activity room, and much more.
Having grown up on the west coast I have always been fascinated with the westward expansion of America during the 1800s. This museum definitely tells that story. The museum exhibits are laid out perfectly and informative. Learned about the other trails (Santa Fe trail) and what it was like for the travelers through their journals/letters on that are on display. I was actually surprised to hear that over 90 percent of the travelers made it.
Highly recommend this museum to anyone who loves America history!

As an Oregon Trail enthusiast, I greatly enjoyed myself getting to read all the signs and admire the artifacts. I came by myself and took my time; it took me about 80 minutes to get through everything, which is quite reasonable for the six dollar entry. The exhibits are very family friendly, but they have more academic-oriented books for sale in the gift shop that provide deep dives on the grittier nature of pioneer life, such as the archaeology on the Donner Party camps that I am currently reading. The lady at the front desk was hopeful about the museum receiving a good modernizing overhaul in the next few years as funding becomes available, though I found it to still be quite informative as-is. If you’re into historic site road trips, don’t miss grabbing the free auto tour guides published by the National Park Service on your way out.

We were looking to fill time before a concert and Google led us here. I'm glad we stopped by, I learned a lot. If you like to read everything, I recommend allowing at least two hours. My only complaint is the entrance wasn't well marked. The staff was very friendly.

Great little tour, of some important American history! The building has been beautifully restored, and the tour is by donations !

Small but very interactive, you get to load a wagon like the pioneer emigrants did. Great displays and quotes from various trail emigrants.

Great places. If you have any interest in the Oregon trail or the other trails west this is a great museum with lots of displays and information. Nicely done!

Please note almost all the photos on Google are of the OLD location. This NEW location is larger with more exhibits and more centrally located. Please still go to the old location to visit the great railroad museum in the old Aton RR depot.

Excellent museum displaying history and explanations of some of America's most famous WESTERN TRAILS including dioramas, paintings, antique collections, etc. There are other historic buildings on the property including a log cabin and a train station. We visited the day it happened to reopen since Covid began (8-7-21) and the 2 employees were more than eager to answer questions. The museum is self-guided and only cost @$5/pp. They have a nice small gift shop and a separate room for theater, demos, shows, etc. There is another historic home up the street you can tour also.

Looks like it has been closed down since covid started in 2020. It's now May 2021. Went went by when we were in town. It looks well kept, and would be awesome to go in a see everything. Looking through the windows it appears they have kept everything in great condition. Would definitely recommend if they were open.

Considering the volume of information available on the trails, this museum does an amazing job of making trail history accessible. Big, colorful displays, first personal accounts, and interactive exhibits guide you through the experience of being on the trail. The gift store is fun, too. I'm currently recommending this museum a lot.

I took a quick trip there right before closing so I didn't get to watch the video but they were nice enough to give me a return pass so I could check it out. They had a lot of information and some great interactive displays for kids. Gift shop was great too!

This museum is the starting point for several historic trails. The exhibits cover the Oregon trail, California trail, Santa Fe trail, Lewis & Clark trail and Mormon pioneer trail.
The museum is laid out well but feels in need of an update. There are no multimedia areas like modern museums have.
I was disappointed that the museum was entirely focused on the trail pioneers, with very little reference to the Native Americans already occupying the land. There were many missed opportunities to add context with the native people interacting with the pioneers. Even Sacajawea was barely mentioned in the Lewis and Clark stories.
The gift shop has a neat collection of books and souvenirs. I was sad to see that all the Native-inspired goods were made in China. I would love to see this shop actually showcase indigenous culture rather than selling imitations.
Overall it's not a bad introduction to the trail histories but if you're already a history buff, there won't be much to learn.
The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum is a comprehensive memorial to the 33rd president of the United States. Permanent exhibits cover the life and presidency of Truman, from his early years in Missouri to his time as president. Highlights include Truman's office and private quarters, as well as artifacts from his time in office.
I have visited several Presidential Library's & Museum's over the years and I would have to say, this one was the best so far! The design is easy to follow. The displays are very modern and interesting. I definitely learned more about Harry S. Truman and truly enjoyed the visit. As an added bonus, the staff were extremely accommodating the day of my visit. I would recommend checking in advance to see if a reservation is needed BEFORE you visit. Overall, I spent about 2 hours exploring and I took my time.

Beautiful place. Squeaky clean. Staff was super friendly. The souvenir store was great. Be aware - masks required, no food/drink. Military free! But price is about $15 and donations are accepted. Pass is for all day, so you can leave for lunch (we went to subway across the street) and come back. Lots to see!

I finally came back to the Truman Library since the 80s. The entrance was changed to the side of the building. I visited the museum, of course, but someday I would like to visit the archives. I like the old films they showed. The museum had at least 3 to 4 areas to rest and watch film archives. Lots of interaction that enlightens you with knowledge. It's amazing how this man had big shoes to fill when Roosevelt died. But he became one of the best and most influential presidents in our nation's history. I recommend to visit when you are in the Kansas City area. Handicap friendly too.

Excellent museum. Great use of timeline to bring historical events to life. The fact that President Truman helped design, build, and then utilized this space for years showed in the layout and care of the exhibits. The only suggestion would be the incorporation of other historical artifacts rather than wall quotes.

I didn't know much about President Truman but almost everyone in town said this place was a must see. I learned a lot and enjoyed my time. We came about an hour and a half before closing so we didn't have time to see everything. I definitely recommend allowing a lot of time especially if you like to read all the displays and take pictures. The staff were very friendly.

Highly recommend. Spent an easy 3.5 hours there. Could have pstayed all day.
School-age children will be bored, regardless of efforts of the knowledgeable docents. While there, the kids on field trip only wanted to see the oval office mock-up. Which held their attention for a minute.
Learned a lot about President Truman's family, childhood, WWI military service, failed businesses, political career, presidency, and "retirement."
Exhibits include the museum, the archives/library, on-site office, vehicles, oval office mock-up, and Harry and Bess' resting place.

Another great museum in Kansas City! We had a fantastic time at the Truman library. Spent about 3 1/2 hours there, and could’ve spent more reading all the bits of information. I learned so much about President Truman, and I will definitely return so I can learn more.

This is my third presidential library, so while a little less elaborate than the Clinton Library in Little Rock, it was more robust and tried less to attempt to shape the legacy of Truman than the Hoover library. It did a good job illuminating Truman's life and showing the complexity of the decisions in Truman's life. A simple man who achieved greatness, he had to make some decisions that remain controversial to this day. My kids even seemed to enjoy it, and I would encourage others to illuminate the history of this great nation by bringing their children here as well since 12 and under are free. Oh, and props for displaying the new MN flag before it is technically the state flag.

Awesome Museum! This was my 7th NARA Presidential Library. First off the grounds are beautiful! The grass is striped and cut beautifully. Secondly the staff is super friendly! Third the museum is beautiful. It’s been recently remodeled. It’s clean. It’s informative! It’s amazing.

I came here a few years ago and it was okay, but not memorable. Since then they remodeled it and brought it into the 21st century. They did an amazing job! It is now video and multimedia driven with plenty of interactive opportunities. If you are a local and have been here before as I have, it’s worth going back. If you are passing through the area and looking for a great historical stop, this is a great choice. They really bring history alive. Regardless of your political persuasion, there are critical historical moments that still shape our world today. Allow for at least three to four hours.

We drove by today, will be back. Ive followed the remodeling and expansion and am anxious to see it.
It was great driving from the courthouse from som business (it's massively screwed up doesn't need to be, another story) but the good news is we went by the home on Delaware, then to the library. Last time I was there was before President Truman had passed.

Very clean and well kept. Does have a family bathroom so dads can change diapers! We took a stroller with us for when our 2 yo and 1 yo got tired of looking at everything and had no problem getting it around d everywhere. They have many historic movies clips and many interactive learning opportunities. These also helped because my kids loved building the United States puzzle while I got to read. I would say this is a more serious presidential library but very well done.

My brother and I visited Kansas and Missouri in November of 2023, largely motivated by the museums of Pres. Eisenhower and Truman. Visiting Truman's museum was a very satisfying experience.
To start, there's a statue of the man outside for an excellent photo opportunity. The museum exhibits begin with a video that introduces the audience to how Truman became President. From there, one is taken on a timeline - from Harry's early life, to how he met Bess, to his days in WWI, to owning his haberdashery, to the Senate, the Vice Presidency, and the Presidency...etc. There is a lot to see. There is a replica of the Oval Office and Truman's on-site office is preserved. Harry and Bess are buried here; Margaret is interred as well. This museum has interactive components; the visitor is given a series of questions and is allowed to answer them on screens that are located throughout the exhibition.
There is a gift shop where one can purchase postcards, bandanas, caps, and even a miniature model of Harry and Bess in their railroad coach from the whistle-stop tour.
My brother and I spent just about 3 hours at the museum, and we did not feel rushed at any point. Note that Truman's boyhood home is located close by but is not on site (as such, we could only see it from the outside as it was closed by the time we came close to it).

This was my first presidential library and I was surprised. I expected it to push some agendas and boost Truman up on a high pedestal but I was wrong. They had excellent layouts, artifacts and readings. No agendas besides the actual history and explained a lot between Truman and the people and events around him and his reaction to them. I would recommend visit for anyone in the area. This was a great museum and I walked away knowing more and thinking differently about some events that he was involved in.

One of the best presidential library I have ever visited. Very informative and interactive. The exhibits were organized and I say I learned a lot. The place is wonderful and very interesting. Make sure you alot two to three hours to walk around, watch and read facts. I was very impressed with the interior and would definitely recommend this library to friends and family. They have a gift shop and parking is free.

Amazing presidential museum. Very well done with videos, interactive exhibits and artifacts. Learn about history including WW1, WW2, Korean war, establishment of the State of Isreal, and the Atomic Bomb. Lots of artifacts from Truman's life. Highly recommend. We were there for 4 hours!
Ann Stepp — Google review
My family spent several hours making our way through all of the exhibits, and I was surprised at how much I didn't know about Truman and all of the critical moments in history that occurred during his time in office. Kids age 7-14 were in our group and although they were good sports and well-behaved I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked in each section. So I'll definitely be back when I can go alone next time!
Edit: Went back several months later on a weekday morning with no kids and had the whole museum to ourselves. Loved it!
The Harry S Truman National Historic Site is a historic home in Independence, Missouri, that was the home of U.S. president Harry S. Truman from 1945 to 1952 and again from 1961 to 1965. The site features personal artifacts, furniture and photographs from Truman's life and career as well as tours available through only the first floor of the home.
The house was not open for a tour but the grounds were. The ranger was excellent in his presentation about the history of the house. He also provided allot of information about former president Truman's time spent there.
Justin Earnest — Google review
Very nice tour of the Truman home! The ranger giving the tour did a fine job - he was open to questions, too. The Noland house across the street displays pictures of the upstairs portion of the house not available on the tour. We especially enjoyed the video interview of the Trumans by their daughter, Margaret! This part focuses on his home/personal life. I would recommend going inside the Noland house first because some of the items mentioned in the video interview weren't mentioned on the tour of the house & I would like to have looked at them.
We weren't able to tour the library because it isn't open on Sunday - no one mentioned this until we found it closed...

Very informative tour of the home of the Truman's!! The inside is the same as it was when Mrs Truman passed in 1982. No picture taking allowed in the home itself. I was surprised to see one reviewer must have snuck in picture taking of their visit. The upstairs is not included in the tour but pictures of bedrooms are across the street at the Noland home.

We drove by on a Friday will be back. I'd only been to the Truman library not around the area. We had business at the courthouse so decided to go by the library and home.
Was interesting how close all three places were to each other.
Will be back to tour the home in the future.

Cool to see the farm home of Missouri's only United States president. Interesting sight that is well preserved. Apparently they do interior tours on Friday and Saturday. We didn't get to go inside. There is coyote currently living under one of the out buildings. They have that area cordoned off. We saw him go under the smokehouse.

They refused to let me inside Truman's house, even though I got there at 4:20. The last round is at 4:30.
The employee of the visitor center Jeff Wade told me to come tomorrow. Although I told him I was leaving town today. And he was supposed to let me in today.
Especially since I had a ticket. Very poor service!!!
Эдуард Глезин — Google review
It's free, just go to the visitor center for a ticket. The route is short. There's not much to see from such a modest/ frugal person. Took about 20 minutes. We got to learn some interesting things. Event though the decor wasn't very flashy.

Cool. A lot of original artifacts inside. No pics permitted inside and didn't go upstairs.

The site is a great place to visit to learn more about Truman and his life during and after his presidency. Tickets are first come, first serve, so get there early to get your time slot you want. Tours are on the ½ hour and are limited. You need to go to the visitor center first to get the tickets. No photography allowed while inside or on the grounds.

I highly recommend the Truman home tour for anyone with even a general interest in American history and culture. Although it is a short tour -and only shows a portion of the home interior - it is still a classic look at the home life of "the accidental president". If your visit sparks an interest in Harry and Bess Truman ... I strongly encourage you to read the short and interesting book " Harry Truman's excellent adventure" which describes their cross-country road trip (after the presidency!) ... during which they expected to be treated as average citizens. 😎.
