Located on Highway 80 about 6 miles from the entrance to the Park. Very large building with a new sign out front SELMA to MONTGOMERY Interpretation Center and a National Park Service emblem. Another emblem is on the face of the building. Entry is from the parking lot side. If you have a National Park Passport the stamps are at the front desk in the gift shop. Plenty of parking for RVs and quite a few picnic tables offering a shady break. Entrance is free and the Museum is well laid out. Strongly encourage if you have time to step in and view the video. Quite a bit of history that is important to remember. What is interesting is the museum was built on its location for significant reasons. One being it has six acres that were used by the marchers to camp for the night on their march to Montgomery. The design of the museum is interesting - the front resembles the Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and the dome symbolizes the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The bridge itself is 20miles to the right as you exit the Park toward Selma. There are statues and a small Park on the right at the bridge but parking is limited. More parking is available on the left side of the highway. The area with statues, plaques, etc. is to commemorate the Freedom Movement and those key leaders. However, probably due to city budget issues, the area is a bit worn out. Selma itself has fallen on hard times. However, if you have time you can use one of the handouts from the museum and drive past each of the churches where the marchers gathered and on Bloody Sunday sought refuge

Never open but great place to park a big rig. Lovely grounds, lots of people just walk everyday there the way it is setup. Please continue to keep it clean so that we can park and relax. Plenty of room for your dog to just run.

3/10/2022: Made a trip to Selma....and to see Lowdness. Closed again. Not worth going to. They might open just before the Selma March on 23rd of March...

Excellent delivery of historical facts and footage. A must-see landmark to be revered by all races of individuals open to knowing the truths, speaking these truths among their family, friends, religious coomunities, local politicians, and courageous enough to seek and act in ways to confront current day systemic racism.

Hidden jewel in plain sight! Staff were friendly and professional. We didn't watch the 25-minute video, but the rest of this dedication to Tent City was informative. We learned a lot about the Civil Rights movement between this and the Legacy Museum in Montgomery.

Moving historical interpretation that reveals the full extent of racist violence leading up to the march and the continuing struggles.

12.30.2023. The video is must-watch. The stories are...tough -- but everyone in the US should know this part of our history. I'm glad the NPS person at Tuskegee recommended that we visit here.

It was closed due to a water pipe breaking. The walk around where tent city was had some good information and was a nice walk.

I visited over 15 years ago on a class field trip, and I can truly say that it left an undeniable mark. The experience was interesting and informative, I even had the pleasure of meeting the late legendary stage actor Nick Latour.

My wife and I bookmarked this place on our way to Savannah and followed up with a visit on the way back to the Dallas area. I was in the fifth grade when the Selma to Montgomery march was made. Other than seeing that people were mad about something, I had no idea what was going on. The Lowndes Center gave a precise telling of why the march was held. For the march to have made it is testament to the determination of the people who made it.
On a side note, we were traveling with our dog. The Park Service employee informed me (when I asked) that dogs were not allowed. I took the dog outside and was surprised when a non-uniformed employee came out and volunteered to sit with our dog while I went to view the exhibits. It was above and beyond his duties to the center. I really appreciate the hospitality!
Beautiful and a place of reverence and reflection. Has historical information and a great place for adults as well as children to learn the truth about Southern history.

My grandparents are buried there and parents also bought plots there. It is a nice graveyard where many people walk.

Nice peaceful old cemetery next to civil war cemetery.
Modest site for artifacts & information on African-American voting rights & women’s suffrage.
Besides the goal of this institution to find and document the individual stories of the Marchers who participated. It's proximity to the site of the march and event's of Bloody Sunday is unmatched. The exhibit of photographs is wonderful. Try to stop by and support this truly local initiative.

Small but very nice museum with many poignant photos and artifacts. I would encourage visits to help support and keep this educational facility in place. Civil rights memorial park is across the highway. Short walk from museum to Edmund Pettus bridge

This museum was very informative and definitely a MUST for children and young adults. Everyone should make this on their travel plans. It was unique in that it displayed the foot print of those who participated in the March. Would absolutely recommend to everyone.

An amazing museum, well worth visiting. The nondescript exterior of the building doesn’t reflect the wealth of storytelling inside. We liked how dedicated the staff/volunteers at the museum were to encouraging past, present, and future people to voting.
Fiona Becker — Google review
This is not the most modern up to date facility. Keep in mind it is privately funded so it probably needs out help to keep running. The store also did not have much in it. That being said..this place was still educational, informative and had a few exhibits. The location was great as it was on the other side of the Pettus Bridge.
The price was 8.50 for adults $4 for students.

I have no words...I was in awe about the large dimensions of the exhibits, and the many rooms. Its quality, creativity, variety in layouts and settings, and its information impacted and moved me. In my opinion, visiting this extraordinary museum is worth more than $15 the entrance. Astonishing!

DO NOT TAKE CHILDREN! My school did the footprints to freedom tour on an AP African American history field trip and the second museums roleplay left everyone traumatized. The tour guide patted the boys down, asked the girls to stick out their hands and open their mouths. It only got worse with tight, dark spaces with over 40 of us in one small room (triggering multiple panic attacks). The N-word was used consistently to humiliate students as well as calling 15-18 year old girls wenches and “my wenches”. At the end of the roleplay, students were “murdered” and two students were posed with nooses around their necks and multiple girls were limp on the floor. I believe the message of the exhibit was incredibly important and the overall experience is very important and well done, it just needs to be better communicated. No where on the website does it state what happens on this tour, nor do many reviews. Informed consent is incredibly important especially with such an intense and deep issue, there was none. Adults were told some “rough language would be used to describe the middle passage” and in no way shape or form was the reality communicated to teachers/parents. The exhibit itself should remain how it is but warnings of the reality of what is about to happen to people should be communicated, exits should be pointed out and encouraged in times of emotional distress, and age restrictions should be put into place as this is no tour for children. I hope this inspires someone to choose a different tour for their school field trip.

Loved watching my kids explore history in Selma. We enjoyed ourselves and walked the bridge. The surrounding area is in rough shape, there were piles of trash and abandoned buildings everywhere. If my dad was not with me, I'm not sure I would have got out the car with my kids. We need to preserve our history in Selma, the town almost appears to be abandoned near the museum.
Ramona Blackwell — Google review
Quaint museum but we were lucky to be hosted by one of the “foot soldiers” of the Civil Rights movement, Sam. Sam was an amazing presenter.
The site of 1965's Bloody Sunday conflict is a national landmark honoring the civil rights movement.
A surreal moment with a turning point in history, and a very public display of the violent aggressive opposition Black Americans faced, while attempting their right to simply register to Vote. The city stands in spite of itself, and it's history still rings. Met some lovely people in Selma. A gem of a city with incredible potential on the Alabama River. I pray it finds growth once more.
Vman Homeboycooking — Google review
I can't give it 5 stars simply because of the history. But the experience to cross the bridge and to sit and meditate on the bridge was everything. The memorial area near by was beautiful. The whole area surrounding the bridge is so historical and you can literally feel the history. It really looks like you are still in the mid 1900s.
E Harris — Google review
Such a terrible place. The Memorial Park is unkempt and the boardwalk rotting. The parking area is littered with trash. The sculptures and plaques themselves are in good condition. That the bridge itself retains this name is so sad. This bridge serves as a solemn reminder for how far the USA still has to go to achieve any kind or “ “ “racial” and economic parity.
Jennifer Torry — Google review
This is such a heartfelt place. There are so many historical moments. Yes, it saddens me, but it also brings a certain gladness to know there were pioneers led the way and continued on to fight for equality. 😊🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Ren Coop — Google review
Come show some love for the city of Selma and talk to its residents downtown and share your heritages together. Walk across the bridge and imagine what it was like to march for equality with Dr. King.
Susanne Gibson — Google review
This was a tough decision on what to rate. The history on this bridge is monumental. The area that it's in is in rough shape. It's sad to see that history isn't being properly respected or preserved.
Overall, I'd still say it's worth the stop - but be fully aware, the area is surrounded by abandoned buildings, run-down buildings, and unkempt lawn near the statues & structures. I wouldn't call it a pleasant experience- and yes, I understand a blood bath took place here. I'm just saying, because of the history of it, I personally feel it should be better respected.
And if you're a dog lover - take treats because sadly, you're sure to find stray dogs.
I can't bring myself to rate this lower than 3 stars, simply because of the history of it. Yet, they need to step it up as a community and preserve this in more of a proper manner. We need to preserve history, whether good, bad, or ugly - simply so we can learn from the mistakes of our forefathers.
Know better = Do better.

This was worth the drive out from Montgomery to get the full picture of what happened here and the march that took place.
There is a great memorial at the south end of the bridge however the area around it is run down and in need of some TLC. The stores/info/souvenir shops were not open both times we were there (4:00 pm).
There is a gentleman (Cameron) that sits at the north end whom is a wealth of information. His uncle was on the bridge March 7th, 1965 and he is very passionate about what took place there.
Take the time to walk across the bridge and reflect on what happened there that day and the struggles non-whites still face. The drive to the Brown Chapel AME church is short and worth the quick detour.
Support the town all you can!

Amazing historical landmark. I was emotional thinking about the civil rights march that took place on the bridge and the bloody aftermath. On one side of the bridge, they have a memorial park that is worth walking through to see the tributes to civil rights heroes. The views over the river are really spectacular. The main reason we stopped was to walk the bridge and remember the history that happened here. We had our 11 year old with us too. It was a great way to talk to her about what happened here in the not so distant past. It’s important that we have historical landmarks such as this so we can remember the past so we don’t repeat it.

Amazing and historical site to visit in Selma, Alabama. Make sure you talk to Columbus at the foot of the bridge. He is an excellent historian.

It was definitely a very emotional experience for me! The view around the bridge is run down and hasnt been kept up, but the significance the bridge holds was still well worth the visit. The Selma sign and monuments are before you go over the bridge.
I did hear the have something called the jubilee every year where the celebrate and things.

I'm always interested in exploring this beautiful country. America is the most diverse country on the planet; always something new to see or learn. Occasionally my adventures reveal facts that intrigued me in unexpected ways. Hence my visit to Selma and the journey across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. I wa excited beyond measure to finally visit one of the beacon locations of the Civil Rights Movement, the Edmund Pettus Bridge. My excitement was, however; dampened when I learned that this iconic bridge is named for a former Alabama LEADER of the Klu Klux Klan. (Grand Dragon) Oh how distraught I became when I lamented on this irony. Black people beaten and bloodied by "defenders" protecting a "named bridge" of a devout and AVOWED racist. There should be NO debate as to renaming of this passage way through the beautiful and storied city of Selma. Perhaps, only as a suggestion, "American Freedom Bridge" or a name which symbolizes our country today. SURELY there is a reason so many migrants risk their lives daily coming to America. This truly is a country where Freedom and opportunity prevails. 83 years is far too long for "our" America to honor individuals who spewed the views and precepts of the KKK. Whether it's state or local leaders with the power to DO WHAT'S RIGHT, it's TIME !!!
James Smith — Google review
On one hand it’s just a simple bridge….and yet it’s one of the most important places in American history. Be sure you to read up on “Bloody Sunday” before you go and visit the National Voting Rights Museum (a tour is recommended) at the foot of the bridge.

This national historic landmark is beautiful and quite historical!!
What an experience getting to walk where some of the bravest people walked. I echo the sentiments of another Yelper in this being a humbling experience.
There was a guy near the entrance that introduced himself to our group because he offered a tour and wants to make sure proceeds go towards Selma. Be forewarned he will most definitely approach you. He has good intentions but is a little too persistent.
We opted out because we already had tour guides and a native to Selma. And we supported Selma in financially giving to one of the ladies who runs a tour where she talks about her personal experience getting to participate in the actual Selma march!!
Anywho, the greenery here was beautiful as well.
Such a large store with so much to choose from. Plan on taking some time to walk through. I could only spend an hour and still didn't see half the store!

Some booths have nice furniture, but it is all grossly overpriced. Understanding people like to be compensated for their good work, but the prices have to be so high because pickers charges out the kazoo for their services. Some booth owners refuse to lower prices and they don't even live in Alabama. Most everything is priced out of range of people that could potentially make a new home for things. Sad. The place was much better when they first started, with a small place to have a drink and snack made it feel welcoming. Understanding that COVID limited things for all businesses, that is behind us now. Employees are multi-capable employees, but not very antique knowledgeable. If they lower prices, and make us feel at home and they will reap the benefits!

Brenda Englebert Scammer beware everyone! I should have read reviews before placing a huge purchase for a non profit donation. I collected $3000.00 over 2 months from suppoters in order to make my purchase. Had met Brenda in person and she seemed very hospitable and trustworthy. After sending her my payment in full which she demanded prior to setting up delivery, she has completely ghosted me. It has been 2 weeks and she still won't answer my calls. Whenever I call they say she is busy and will call me back. I need help!

It’s very organized and clean and the staff is friendly. I was surprised and delighted to see so many furniture pieces in the store. If you’re looking for furniture, you should check this place out! They also have Priesters Pecan goodies in the front.

They have a sign that says they are pet friendly. Sometimes my dog gets excited and barks. The lady at the counter rudely told me to put my dog in the cart or leave. (I was holding him) The customers were not bothered by his occasional barks and even said he was fine because they don’t make you put a screamin kid in the cart or ask you to leave. I won’t be back.
Brittany G — Google review
Not a very interesting place to walk around. Nothing super amazing to look at in my opinion. Everything was too expensive. Some items were obviously bought and they just slapped a new sticker on it, which is whatever. There were a couple of cool and unique stalls set up but mostly generic stuff that looks like people just clean out their storage unit and didn't even bother organizing the stuff, just dumped it on a table. Also some of the walkways were too narrow. I couldn't get to some of the stuff because I didn't fit. The coffee shop was meh as well. I feel time would have been better spent going to a couple of small thrift stores. I will most likely not go back. The second star was literally only because of the one unique stall with goth/vampire/macabre stuff in it. They did a good job making sure they stood out in a good way. Otherwise 1 star. Was disappointed.

I have never been so disappointed by how I was treated by that family. I bought several items out of that location for many years. Keep in mind they always got paid for what I spent my monies on. The mother appeared to not care for African American people. I paid them for everything that I bought in the store. Keep in mind when I purchase all these items from them I never knew about there new policy. I had bought several items from them. I had spent nearly 500.00 hundred dollars for all the items I had on layaway with them. On the Friday in which I made several calls to the letting them know I was sending someone to pick up the items. I even got my friend to call them to let them know who was coming to pick up those items from them. They would not answer this here phone. On the following z Monday they conveniently asserted the phone to tell me they had sold my merchandise. I keep in mind that if I was suppose to pick my belongings that rightfully belonged to me and they claimed they sold them. I’m just warning all people of color not to do business with them. They have no respect for out monies nor our business we give them. Keep in mind I have done nothing to desire any of this. I simple prayed to God to handle the misevil thing anyone could do to a person. They sold everything I bought from them. I spent right at 500 .00 dollars with them. They had every dime I owe them. All I’m doing is warning all Afro Americans to be aware of the evilness of this business. I did absolutely nothing to them. They collected double pay fir the same merchandise. I spent 509.00 dollars of my hard earn monies for them to collect double payments for everything I bought from them. People of color please be aware of doing busy with them. They have no respect for people of color e specifically the mother. Everything I have said is to be the truth. I’m just warning all Africa Americans to think before you do business of any sort with them. I did absolutely nothing to deserve any of this racist treatment. They would have never done this to there race. If God is my witness and he knows the evilness they did to me. I serve no justice to them but the God I server have no mercy on them. We are not talking about a few dollars. They stole right at 500.00 dollars from me. Then they sold it again and collected double for it. Aldo Americans think twice before you do business with them. I had been doing business for years with them. So that tells you they.care nothing about our monies.

My friends and I used to play tabletop games in the common room with a resident but a staff member who is also a resident named Amber was very rude to us. She was not professional and seemed to be allowing personal conflicts with a resident to affect her professional behavior as a staff member. She was basically accusing us of damaging the floor without any real evidence and was extremely unwelcoming. (We obviously did nothing to damage them) There seems to be an attitude of prioritizing an image for the business executives over providing a welcoming environment for residents and guests.

Lies about providing reasonable accomodations for those in wheelchairs, about providing lights and ceiling fans. Lies to law enforcement about being threatened in order to remove any caretakers from the building. And I would not consider this a pet friendly place since when Dr. Nick the local veterinarian brought a dog over to meet my wheelchair-bound boyfriend, the cops were immediately called. They tried to kick me out for a veterinarian who brought a dog on site to meet my wheelchair-bound boyfriend. But they yelled at me and I was not even in possession of the dog. They are not pet friendly, they are not even people friendly.

Small dog-friendly park featuring a trail through bamboo trees & a frog pond in a serene setting.
Such a fun spot to find here in an adorable town! We drove from our travels in Montgomery just under 30 minutes to this wonderful bamboo forest. I was amazed with the size of the bamboo and the varieties. Very easy, short walk through the entire forest of bamboo. Took three kids and even the youngest (almost 2) enjoyed walking most of the way. Great signs with facts about the different types of bamboo that my oldest loved to read to us. It wasn’t a very long stop as it is a short walk but even for the 30 minute drive it was worth seeing at least once!

I was very excited to get to experience this bamboo park. I was off and decided to go and enjoy the scenery. It was very quiet and relaxing. I went very early and pretty much had it all to myself. It's open from sunrise until dusk so you have plenty of time to visit. This will definitely be a place to take a beat and reflect. It's a quick walk around the pond and a few trails off main path to explore. You will not be disappointed.

We ventured out with my kids to explore a new place while in town visiting family. The trail itself was very short, but plenty of interesting things to stop and look at. Very easy trail—not super stroller friendly due to tree roots but passable. My boys loved the stream area, which was tucked off the main trail. The bamboo canopy is actually very thick, so the entire area was super shaded, even at 2 pm, keeping us cool in the Alabama heat. There were various markers noting the bamboo varieties that you saw. Bullfrogs sounded off all over the marshy pond.

Beautiful short walking trail through the tall, tall Bamboo also a pond filled with frogs and turtles. Wonderful place to go to be alone with your thoughts while getting some exercise in the nature of you can sit and read while enjoying the sounds of happy frogs or take the kids and allow them to run the trails (maybe tire them before a nap 🙂).
Thank you Prattville for the beauty.

This was once a well maintained area. Today, the pavilion is in ruin, the trails are almost gone, and the picnic tables have an inch of moss on top. Trails are in dyer need of maintenance. This is not a trail for novices even though it's primarily flat. You have to be prepared with proper clothing, good shoes, and plenty of bug repellent. It had been raining earlier, so the trail was muddy and several trees across the 4-inch path the trail has reduced to. Sad to see this park in this kind of state.

It's a while that I visited. At the moment only volunteers are allowed on the property. A storm earlier in 2020 did some major damage and different organizations are helping to get this wonderful park open, again. Contact Cahaba River Society, The Nature Conservancy, or Audubon Birmingham if you want to help.

This Park closes at 4:30 and there is a sign that says they lock the gate and you’ll have to pay $25 to let the sheriff unlock the gate for you if you are not out on time. There is also a big hole in the parking lot that was covered by leaves and we almost got stuck so be careful when you are parking.

Highly recommended! Perry Lakes Park is a definite must-see if in Perry County! Located less than ten miles from Marion, it is a perfect activity to do before a delicious dinner while there. The park itself is huge with plenty of trails to walk on and benches to rest on. In addition, if one walks about ten minutes from the parking lot, Barton's Beach is also there which is beautiful to say the least. Here, a nice, sandy beach touches a peaceful river which is perfect for swimming, canoeing, or whatever else you could put your mind to. Overall, Perry Lakes Park is a must-see while in Marion, Alabama!
Down-home farm eatery offering traditional American dishes & desserts, plus a market & gift shop.
I have been going to the Peach Park since the 80s and it never disappoints! They have the BEST Peach ice cream! My 14 year old and I split a small cup and it was a huge portion (too much for us to finish) which is a massive plus in my book! Took the kids this past Saturday and we bought some amazing produce and they had a blast on the playground and walking trail. The staff is wonderful as well! Thank y'all for providing such great memories from my childhood and now my children's, you guys rock!

Never realized Peach Park is actually a park. Both for kids and an RV park. They have swings and everything. Anyway, we had the fried pecan pie with vanilla ice cream and butter pecan ice cream. Really good. They also serve sandwiches and other types of food. Lots of goodies and apparel for sale as well.

5 out of 5 for what it is. It's a small park just off I-65. There's a large shop with all sorts of stuff to buy, including obviously fresh peaches. There is a restaurant and they have homemade ice cream that's pretty good - including of course peach ice cream. There is indoor and outdoor seating, an outdoor area below the deck with a goldfish pond and a fire pit, more seating - just a relaxing space. There is a RV camping area up there hill behind which I assume is attached to the business. Also up the hill from the building is a playground area with covered seating and tables. It's pretty simple - seesaws, swings, a small slide, and a barn with stairs inside with second floor access to large tube slides to the outside. It's a pleasant little escape that small kids will enjoy.

Very cool little park. Very family-oriented. Stopped at the Loves to park the truck and meet up with my parents and one of my twin nephews and stopped by Peach Park. Got my 72 year old Dad to go down a slide and seesawed with my Mom lol. Highly recommend

Oh my goodness seriously!! This was a welcome rest stop after a long drive from the beach! Everything from the fresh strawberries as you walk in the door so fragrant! Fresh peaches ,watermelon, veggies to homemade ice cream 👏🏼delicious and barbecue. It was so wonderful to sit outside in the rocking chairs and enjoy the nature park watch family’s play together. Excellent place to let the kiddos burn off that spent up energy from long rides. Gives mom a chance to get a little shopping fix 😂 love little shops like this! I’ll add more pictures of the park this morning on out walk before we head out for Missouri.. I may need to wait for the express shop across the street to open I’ve spied out some yard art I think I need 😍

Pitstop? Passing through? Peach fix? This is your stop! Plenty of “fresh” items to choose from. Pies, produce, and homemade peach ice cream to name a few. Great place to stretch your legs and get something out of the ordinary. Friendly staff as well. Gas stations and fast food joints nearby too in case you have one of those in your company. Keep up the peachy keen work!

Great food and a place to stretch while travelling. Farmers market area in front of the store, small shopping area, and plenty of seating. We had lunch here and it was delicious! Our only regret was that we didn't grab ice cream! Perfect place for families with children and/or pets to walk around and enjoy the park area while travelling. Beautiful area!

Seen the billboards for the place on way to Florida so made sure to stop by on way back. And I was not disappointed!! We had to park in the overflow parking lots they had 2. It was very busy. I was super excited. The smell hits you on way in. It smelled soo good. They also had fried pies, all sorts of fruits. We got some tomatoes, watermelon, candles , turkey sandwich, also some ham sandwiches which isn’t pictured. It was filling & very good. They also had an ice cream shop that was filled up with all sorts of varieties & a small restaurant inside of building for hot food. They have a small souvenir shop but it was too pricey for me. We loved this place & plan on going back sometime soon and just make it a day trip .

What an adorable place to visit! Definitely worth checking out at least once. I believe that it’s intended to be a giant play area to bring your children for some food and fun- but it’s a nice hangout spot for adults too. Playground, gift shop, BBQ, various desserts- they’ve got this worn out horse statue that is very popular with the kiddos. Their trash bins have giant animal heads on them which are a little creepy but also kinda cute, I’ll let you decide which. Live music on the weekends. A large patio/deck for folks to eat on that is dog friendly and has some seating available where you can get a little shade. There’s numerous chairs and benches around the wooded area too if you want a more secluded spot. And some indoor seating as well if you like your air conditioning. They have different specials daily that they post on social media and also display on their white board there. Favorite thing I ordered was the queso waffle fries. My husband has a sweet tooth so really enjoyed their sweet tea but sadly didn’t save any room during lunch for dessert. Guess we’ll have to go back!

We did something different on this visit. We played on the playgrounds. Our two year old enjoyed himself for about 30 to 40 minutes... which is really good for him. Swings and slides for various ages. Climbing activities for older kids. Good wholesome fun.

We have family in Florida and have always tried to stop by the Peach Park at least once every year for over a decade. It has changed so much in appearance and is an amazing place to kick back relax while letting the kiddos play. The things that haven't changed: the food and desserts. OMG the peach cobbler! If your not sure if you should stop by; just do it! You won't regret it!

It was a good place. They have good food to eat. They had homemade peach ice cream and different kinds of sweets to. They had a good gift shop.
We found this place while driving towards PA from the Florida Panhandle. What a treat! They had great food at the snack section. Another area was full of fresh fruits and vegetables. They also have a cool gift shop section. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's clean and a pleasure to shop and visit. We found a welcome oasis here during the long drive home. 5 thumbs up. 👍👍👍👍👍

Love this place. We always stop here on the way to Montgomery. Fresh fruits, veggies and every kind of nuts and candies you can think of. The food is surprisingly good. Today we had Ruebens. Delicious! We always get the ice cream. I love the peach pecan, my wife love the black walnut. They always pack it on the cone or cup. A single scoop is actually two scoops.

Coming to Durbin has been a part of our family's traditions since I was a small child in the 1980s. It makes me think of trips to the beach, my late grandparents, 4th of July family reunions, and fun times with my own children. Memories are only part of why we keep coming back to Durbin. The peaches, other produce, and ice cream are always the very best quality. The service is friendly, efficient, and excellent every single time. There are other places where we could get fresh peaches or delicious ice cream, but none really compare to Durbin. It's our summertime tradition!

Orr Park is an excellent location, bordered by Shoal Creek and plenty of open, rolling space. It is a superior location for the Tinglewood Festival each September. Along with the vendors and attractions, you definitely don't want to miss the classic car show.

So nice park. You can enjoy quiet family time. And because in park a lot of dead but beautifully curved trees there's a lot of squirrels running around. Very lovely. Tinglewood, now includes over 30 sculptures. Tinglewood is solely credited to Mr. Tim Tingle, a coal miner by trade who took it upon himself to transform storm damaged cedar trees into glorious works of art in the early 1990's. He continues to bless the city with his talents for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The Mercedes-Benz Visitor Center is a fascinating attraction that showcases the rich history of the German automaker through interactive exhibits and vintage cars. Although it would be great if tours were offered more frequently, visitors can still enjoy viewing about a dozen cars on display and purchasing souvenirs from the gift shop. The center also features informative exhibits highlighting examples of engines and tools used throughout Mercedes Benz's history, as well as a special section dedicated to F1 racing and Lewis Hamilton's championship-winning car.
All equipment was working great. 2 EQEs stopped by while we were there. Flawless experience. Started at 155kW -- fastest yet!

One of the better Railroad museums in the south! Excellent diverse collection that requires no admission to view! The tourist train they run is always a treat too. My only huge gripe is the lack of polish with the volunteer crews. In our visit we witnessed a crew cause an accident in the display yard where guests were walking between cars and displays. It could've been a much worse accident, but it wasn't which is why I only deducted one star.

We did the wild West ride Saturday. We had a great time riding on the open cars, and the museum was very good. My only complaint is that the ride is too short. It is great for what it is, but they need to open more of the spur if that is an option. Still, it is a good experience overall.

It was ok. The little kids loved it. The teen and I were rather bored. You ride up a track one way for 5 3/4 mile stopping shortly after starting to pick up people from a winery. At the end of the track, the engine switches from the front of the train to the rear, which takes about 20 minutes. You start back towards the Museum only to stop at the winery to let the people that were picked up earlier back off. The entire ride took 1 1/2 hours. Seemed to be stopped more than riding. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable about the equipment. It was worth the money spent
Visit on 1/29/22 was EXCEPTIONAL! My daughter and I had a fantastic time. Highly recommend this venue. The inside is charming and inviting. I would highly recommend the wine flight paired with the recommended lunch items and dessert to enhance the overall experience. The gentleman who helped us answered our questions about pairings and we enjoyed purchasing several bottles of wine at the end of our visit. We selected wine flights, cheese plate, split a lunch entre, and dessert. Overall, excellent value for the price spent! We will plan a return trip when we come back through this area.

Unfortunately this experience was not what was expected or described. Upon arrival, check in was a bit chaotic and unorganized. No real directions were given. The train ride is a short ride up and down the same track with no views other than the woods of individuals back yards. The train is an older model with not very clean cars. No real tour of the vineyard. The wine tasting was a sample of each wine offered for purchase, however there was no ability to clean your palette between tastings, nor no ability to clean the one glass provided. The tasting happens inside the restaurant alongside other guests that were just patrons of the restaurant. My friend and I traveled over 2 hours for a birthday celebration and were ultimately disappointed by this experience.

The Calera country side is a beautiful area for a winery. We enjoyed this place although when we went it was a bit crowded and the staff/service wasn’t as friendly and attentive as I’d prefer. Overall the wines were good and we enjoyed the setting. Also have been by as part of the train excursions we’ve been on. Been a while since we’ve visited. Beautiful in both spring and fall. In spring everything is lush and in bloom and green. In fall the leaves are changing. Beautiful Bama country side setting. Look forward to visiting again sometime!
Went back today for charcuterie and wine tasting as a belated Valentine Date. Nice atmosphere and music. Service could have been better. They never came back to check on us after bringing our flight and food. Only to bring the check. The tasting was ok. I bought 2 bottles of wine. The souvenir glasses were nice. Charcuterie, for the price, we felt could have been on a board and had a better presentation. Very lacking compared to other wineries in the area but overall we enjoyed our date…

Ozan Winery is a hidden gem. Located right in Calera, AL. The winery is beautiful and has amazing views. I recently visited with a friend for my birthday. We had such a great time. We did the Wine Train and Brunch. Upon arrival, I couldn’t believe that this beautiful winery was tucked away in Calera. Then we went inside and had Irish Coffee and some treats. We sipped our coffee and enjoyed the very relaxing view. Next, it was time to head down for the train. We learned all about the history of Ozan while walking to and waiting on the train. Then the train arrived, we boarded the train, and went for a relaxing train ride. Once back it was time for the wine tasting, we arrived back to a beautiful display of snacks to enjoy with our wines. We were able to sample several different wines from dry to sweet to red and dessert. I honestly didn’t want the brunch to end but was very happy with the decision to spend my birthday there. I will visit again with family and friends.

This place is awesome. It's such a neat setting, such a beautiful area, and they have wonderful spots for indoor and outdoor seating. There wine was fantastic, I had a flight and a glass and no complaints on anything I tried. I also tried a little bit of their spirits and they were also fantastic, you really can't go wrong if you're into either of these kinds of drinks. They do have a pretty decent food menu and some food options for you. But the scenery, the drinks, the atmosphere, all of it, makes this one of the most fantastic places to visit in this area.

EXTREMELY RECOMMEND this winery. It was during the fruiting season that we came because it would’ve been crowded. We came on our anniversary which is in the fall. The gentleman there was very helpful in recommendations for my husband and I. Their wines were delicious and their charcuterie plate was amazing to pair with the wines I chose.
One of the nicest and most scenic golf courses this country has to offer, conditions were amazing for winter and staff was incredible and accommodating. Whoever doesn’t like this place or think it’s overpriced must’ve just been having a bad day and wanted to go home for no reason, absolutely worth the price in my book.

Incredible course and facility. All the staff were very helpful and nice. The only complaint I have is they do wipe down your clubs and load them in the car however they missed putting a headcover back on a club but I didn't check so that's on me. Will definitely play there again.
Jeremy Blalock — Google review
Practice facilities, course, and employees are top notch. The four holes I played were wonderful too. What ruined the experience was taking 1:20 minutes to play four holes, and having two groups ahead of our group still waiting on the fifth tee box. We chose to leave rather than taking six hours to play a round of golf on a Thursday morning. The o my way I would come back is to be guaranteed the first group on the course.
Charles Linderman — Google review
A beautiful course. 80 degree day with great weather. Fair and fun. So why the rating? 2 pm tee time. No range balls available. No explanation. Saw refresh cart 5x. Marshals?? None to be found. Probably explains the 5 1/4 round . Oh- or possibly lack of course management explains how a drunk wedding party playing as an 8-some and a five slows the round a tad. For $200 the expectation is a little higher that there would be some course management .
John Dayton — Google review
This place used to be so great. And the staff in the clubhouse still is. But when you pay $225 to play and your grounds crew won't let you hit off the range because they want to close it (at 3) to get home, that is an issue. And the course is not near the condition it used to be.

Absolutely amazing experience every time we visit. The Parker Lodge was awesome with a perfect dinner by the private chef. Golf, the main reason for the trip was fantastic. Hole 5 and 17 are my favorites.
Paul M. — Google review
Played here several times and it's a nice course. Amazing views on several holes. However, last time I played it was $200. Much higher than it used to be, and all of the bunkers were being re-sodded, making it nearly impossible to chip around the bunkers and get anywhere close to the hole. Some of the bunkers were tarped and unplayable. I understand courses need landscaping/maintenance, but was pretty disappointed to pay such a high price especially with those conditions.

I’ve heard a lot of things good about this course finally got the chance to play it last week, and I must say I was very disappointed.
Greens were extremely slow and very soft to the point It was very difficult to fix your ball mark. Beverages were extremely overpriced. Example - 6 pack of beer $52. Not to mention the green fee of 250 in my opinion was 100 more than it should’ve been.

Amazing golf course! Easily the best public course in Alabama. If you haven’t been to FarmLinks, you need to make the time to get down there.

Simply amazing. Wow. I visited Pursell Farms today for the first time and was blown away. From the moment you drive onto the grounds and are admitted through the gates by a security guard (he confirms you have a t-time), you're presented with beautiful tree lined roads that lead you to the clubhouse. I arrived in the morning around 9:15am so the mowers were still out doing their work. What a fun setting. The clubhouse was elegant and had a small locker room area with a shower. As you approach your first hole, they have complimentary cold waters available in styrofoam cups and cold green apples in a barrel. Range balls are included with your rates and the range has multiple flags to Target as well as some chipping nets. The course was stunning and the carts had a touch pad tablet that tells you how far you are from the hole as you drive. Amazing experience. If you're visiting Birmingham and looking for a place to have a great golfing experience, you definitely need to check out FarmLinks.

Visiting here was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We had a great time and the golf course was immaculate. Brought in some friends from the midwest and they were taken back by how friendly the staff was and how beautiful the place is. Hoping I can get back there sometime in the future.

One of the nicest courses that I played here in the Birmingham area. Even though it's a little drive to get there from Birmingham, it's well worth it. The greens were phenomenal. As well as the fairways and everything about the course. It's a must play....!

Acres of parkland for outdoor sports plus an iron & steel museum with artifacts & demonstrations.
This park has a great infrastructure. They have lined up several old historic cabins just past the creek. There is a store as well as a creamery. Also a camp grounds right inside the main park area. The hiking trails could be marked better. The trails are very easy to hike compared to other places I've been. There are several cool historical things to see. A quarry, a civil war Era cemetery an iron works museum and probably the coolest thing I've seen thus far. A historic beautiful and enormous furnace. The history of the Civil War, slavery, and iron in the south are all here. They do a great job telling the story of what took place many years ago. I would strongly recommend hiking this place and taking in the history it tells.

This place is fantastic!
I love parks with historical value, and Tannehill definitely rates at the top of historical value.
The entire park was very clean, it has amazing walking/ biking paths and a herd of deer that lounge in the adjacent woods.
There were plenty of rv spots, cabins for rent and small "lodges" with a communal bathroom.
I'm planning a trip back next month specifically to visit Tannehill again!

Beautiful park to hike, go to trade days or have a picnic. There is so much to see and do here. We hiked in the morning and seen the fog rising off the water which was just amazing!

Had a wedding at the event center and the office told us alcohol inside was fine. Jokingly she added…..”just don’t have a beer truck in the parking lot”
We had the wedding (136 people). then received a call the next morning from the same office telling us that alcohol is prohibited in the park and due to them finding 4 empty 12 pack beer boxes we were not allowed to rent anymore inside the park. Do these morons honestly think that these campers camping don’t have alcohol in their campers?? Maybe the office needs to get their rules straight!!

Absolutely gorgeous park with many RV sites. What a gem! The campground is surrounded by fishing streams and historical sites to explore. We came during the week in the summer for just an overnight visit as we were driving back north from Florida. Not only did we enjoy the peaceful environment, University of Alabama was not too far away - we enjoyed the campus and some local bbq. Would definitely stay here again. And definitely recommend to others.

Great historical spot surrounded by beautiful nature. George, the person at the gate was informative and pleasant, he typed his own guide to the park since it lacks the info on the park displays. The museum had a great display of artifacts, tools and history from the iron era, lacked the part of history on the production of supplies for WWII. We were visiting on a week day so most trade cabins and ice creamery were closed. I’ve been in similar state parks in NC, SC and GA were their historical buildings were better kept and plaques with history narrative. Still it was a beautiful park with interesting history to observe.

It’s the best historical park near Birmingham Alabama. 45 mins drive is required if you are traveling from Downtown Birmingham. I believe the main attraction there is the Grist Mill which was established in 1867. It is a good picnic spot in the summer.

We rented the Nail house for our daughter's mountain bike race at the park. We loved it. Great little cabin. I wish they were dog friendly but other than that we had a great time.

Extremely behind times in the fact that you can’t book online. You have to drive from wherever you live and set up an at least two-adult person tent on the site you want to reserve. Which is EXTREMELY inconvenient. The lady at the campground store is short and not nice on the phone or in person. Makes you never want to go there again.
The laundry room doesn’t even have a sink.

Amazing park, it really felt like a hidden gem. We tent camped and the primitive sites were located along a small brook. We watched a family of deer cross right next to us. The trails are awesome and the water is beautiful. Great family or couples retreat for a weekend. Bathrooms/showers could use some updating but all in all, a fantastic place to visit.
Christian and I got married at Windwood in March of this year and it was absolutely beautiful! I always wanted an outdoor ceremony, and Windwood had so many options, and even the backup plan was perfect. With an air bnb on site, this venue had absolutely everything you could need to make your day perfect. Arden photographed the day so perfectly! It was everything we dreamed it would be!
Rose Lambert — Google review
Windwood is the most beautiful place in Alabama! We instantly fell in love with the venue and it has so much to offer! Lyndsey and her staff made our day so smooth and fabulous! They truly care for you and want to make your day special and did everything in their power to!

If you're looking for a venue that has the "rustic/barnlike" feel but desire something a little different than popular barn wedding vibes, Windwood is the perfect place. We settled on this venue because the site offers a wide array of options regarding ceremony site. The reception area is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. The stables are immaculate and having the horses there made it extra special for me. The greenery in the summer is gorgeous, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and like family. Our wedding coordinator there met with us prior to the wedding to ensure that our dream day could become a reality. If you're looking for an outdoor wedding venue, I highly recommend Windwood Equestrian farms

When searching for a venue, my partner and I wanted a beautiful venue we didn't need to decorate too much. We had viewed venues for hours one weekday and in fact, I had contemplated canceling with Windwood, I was so tired of looking. However, we didn't, and it was the biggest blessing we didn't. As soon as we pulled through the gate, we both said, "this is it, this is our venue". It's like finding the perfect dress! Not only is the venue breathtaking all on its own, the staff and owners are precious. William was so welcoming from day one. I remember the night before the wedding, we rented the Airbnb, and he came up late at night to help us with something. Lyndsey was there every step of the way, managing the space while also helping my own wedding planner. I cannot recommend them enough. It was truly a dream come true!

I can't have imagine a more fairy tale experience than we had with Windwood for my daughter's wedding. The venue is breathtaking and the team is amazing! Our daughters wedding at Windwood Equestrian exceeded every expectation we could have imagined and more. Our guests were in awe of the reception in the courtyard area and it truly was a dream come true for our daughter. The staff was amazing and their event coordinator, Lyndsey, did an outstanding job. Everything was organized to perfection and we can’t wait to see the moments that Arden captured as she is most meticulous and our camera shy daughter loved working with her! I would not have changed a single thing and if I had another daughter would not even consider another venue! Lovely and elegant beyond words! Thank you SO much!!!!

Our wedding day was perfect at Windwood. We rented their new cottage house to get ready in which was wonderful and used Lyndsey for all the coordination and could not have been more pleased. Everything ran ridiculously smoothly. We had a bit of rain during the reception, but coordinating the tent and alternative options for a rain day plan was easy. Absolutely beautiful venue and flawless coordination. Would recommend to anyone.

Alabama Adventure & Splash Adventure is a water park located in Bessemer, Alabama. It features slides, a lazy river, and a laser tag maze. There are regular rides as well as attractions suitable for all ages.
My kids love it.. it became our summer spot.

Great environment, clean areas, amazing food and awesome staff.
I only wish they can offer family season passes.

This was the first time I visited here with my family and we had the best time ever. I purchased our tickets online which was very convenient. There is multiple lockers for usage, but you have to purchase them. There was food vendors and shaded sitting areas to eat and rest. My family really enjoyed it to the fullest. The rides were not operational only the ones for the smaller children. This attraction was worth every penny most definitely will go again.

The park was very clean , fully staffed with courteous and respectful workers, and the rides were a lot of fun. The live shows every hour were exciting and entertaining. I would have given less stars only because of all the COVID changes but that is no fault of the park. Just know that there is a cashless system in place ( but you can load a card at kiosks throughout the park as well as the entrance) I was sad to find there were hardly any "shops" open along main street as well as our favorite "old-timey"picture store. I was also looking forward to the newest ride and had no idea it was not opened yet (rocket racer)
I really wish that Buzz Saw Falls or similar would come back.
I also missed seeing the General as I left .I had hoped to share a picture taken with my grandchildren the year she and her son opened the park.
It's only getting better! We usually make the trip once a summer but I may consider the season pass. Great price for everything that is included. (Beverages, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, and parking) A definite family park for all ages!

My 3 year old niece loved the Christmas lights but I personally thought it would be more. Theme was cute from prehistoric dinosaurs to biblical to 12 days of Xmas but I was expecting to be an extravaganza as in bright. Parts of drive was dim. Long line entering because we picked it on a Saturday. Once you enter, cars were pretty stretched out and I didn’t fill rushed. I would recommend purchasing tickets in advance so you can just scan barcodes and go.

I enjoyed the park.
The only thing I didn't like was that there wasn't a lot of rides on the roller coaster side of the park and a lot of the rides that were there weren't open,
Especially the kiddie rides.
The water side of the parking is where we spent most of the day anyway though.

We haven't been in a few years but we're so impressed with all of the updates and changes. We were not nickel and dimes at every turn. Parking was free, discounts for purchasing our tickets on line was a plus, free drinks all day. Well placed sunscreen stations, lots of shady areas for those of us who can't do sun was a welcome plus. After being given all the free extras, We gladly paid $30 for a pizza that was giagiantic and fed all 6 of us. Rides, shows and wave pools were some of the highlights. Plenty to do and I must say from the entrance to the exit the place was neat and Tidy. We got there at the opening and it wasn't crowded but as the afternoon progressed it did fill up.
A fun day and a definite place to tell my friends about. They really represent Birmingham well ❤️🩹

Wish they would bring back the concerts! The season passes would be worth it and I would pay for one every year if they brought back the concerts. It’s a decent park and the daily price is reasonable but I’d rather just pay for the day. Season Passes not really worth it without the concerts.

Seasonal Passes. Please do get them 99.9usd (3+ months per person) unlimited visits vs 20-30 usd per one person's per visit.

The ultimate goal for the day is to have fun, if you are a Military or a healthcare professional do not get excited about the ticket discount on the website.
There is no discount obviously, because it’s going to be similar to the online price, so for easy access purchase your ticket online and come to have fun, other than that your ticket is $44.99 for the adult and it’s going to be after discount $39.99.
The different activity and the rides are excited and deserve the amount you paid for, staff members are friendly and cooperative, the amenities are clean and the guards available in all water area.
I like everything except the clear communication about what you should expect about the pricing.

Home to a petting zoo, golfing & beaches, this vast park has camping, hiking trails & fishing.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this park. From the amazing, helpful and accommodating staff to the landscape and activities. We tried to explore as much as possible in our 3 day, 2 night stay and it simply wasn't enough time! Fantastic hiking trails, equine facilities, kayak/paddleboards, camping, the wildlife center. The road construction before you reach the park was an annoyance, but after straightening out our directions it was smooth sailing! We will be back!

This state park and campground are so wooded and very pretty! Sites are somewhat spacious depending on the site you get and where it's located in the campground. They all have a picnic tables and firepit ring. They have a store with limited items, Firewood( $7.50 a bundle) and ice ($4.00? ) to purchase. Bathroom/ shower facilities are in need of serious updating but doable. ( this is the only reason I didn't give this campground 5 stars ). Tons of walking and biking trails right from the campground, nice and cheap laundry 4 of each machines, small beach and fishing
dock to use with such pretty scenery there. My husband is happy he's catching fishing while here! Park staff are super friendly and helpful too. You have to come check this campground and state park out, you won't be disappointed!

Amazing state park in Alabama. A beautiful spot write off of the highway. A lot of trail and activities to be had. We went fishing and had a great time. This is a great place for the family, an outing with a partner, or a space to clear your head. It cost 5 bucks to get in and if your over sixty it cost 2 bucks. Very heavily recommend checking the park out if you love the outdoors.

A beautiful place. You can go right up to the peaville waterfall. I loved my experience. I am planning to come back and camp closer to the summertime. It's $5 a person, and maps are $1. But that was well worth the v experience I had.

Beautiful state park with a multitude of activities. I tent (primitive) camped this week at Oak Mountain. My site (A-60) had a treacherous uneven climb but it was do-able for a fairly able bodied person. I wouldn’t recommend if you are disabled or have knee problems.
The campsite itself was beautiful, fairly secluded and heavily wooded. It overlooks some RV sites but there was enough tree coverage to allow for seclusion.
The bathhouses are an easy walk but they are awful! I heard they are being renovated this year so I look forward to visiting again.
When I visited, I hiked a few trails, visited the bird sanctuary, went swimming at the lake and enjoyed peace accompanied by mild May weather. I can’t wait to visit again!

If you love to go hiking, this is an awesome state park to visit. Although there were some sections of the trail that were steeper to climb, the reward of viewing Peavine Falls was worth it. We also hiked to the King's Chair Outlook which had a beautiful view of the green forest, mountains (in the distance), and a lake below. There were some beautiful views from the mountain ridge and large rock formations(along the Blue Trail). We also enjoyed hiking to Maggie's Glen - a pretty little area with a small bridge over a flowing stream. Another beautiful hike is The Treetop Nature Trail that follows a meandering stream surrounded by greenery. The beginning of this trail has a boardwalk section where rehabilitated birds of prey are contained in outdoor enclosures. The trails are well marked and there are several connecting trails. We packed a lunch, snacks, and plenty of water to enjoy the natural beauty of this park.

Some nice hikes and pretty views. Also, quite a lot of variety of activities it seems like.
However, for someone like myself only really interested in hiking and camping, there are better places. There are lots of people and many of the hiking trails are shared with mountain bikes which makes them smooth and boring and annoyingly hazardous trying to watch out for fast-moving bikers.
For me, I'd much rather go to Bankhead or Guntersville than Oak Mountain. Both have better hiking, better views, better waterfalls, and significantly less people.

This is an incredible park to visit! It’s HUGE and includes horseback riding, a golf course, playground, kayak & paddle boat rental, swimming area, and more! There were very nice bathroom facilities at all parking areas. Gorgeous views. Drive through road and tons of hiking trails with bridges. Wish we had more than a few hours, I think you could spend several days exploring and still not see it all!
Stickers, magnets, T-shirt’s and stuffed animals at the park office, but very small selections.

Good walking/ hiking shoes highly recommend.
The best way to get to the kings chair is to Start Blue trail at North Trailhead take to Kings Chair out and back continue on Blue trail to Red Blue connector. Then Red trail back to trailhead.

Well maintained and clean. Attendees posted at front and back entrances and routinely patrolled to make sure everything is okay. Camp spots are marked with a post with the #s on them and are color coded to show different conveniences. Campground B doesn't look as well planned as the other sites. Some spots need a well experienced driver to back a camper into. Also could use a big grassy area to play catch, football, or maybe baseball without fear of hitting a car or camper
Activity-packed park offering cave tours & a light show plus wall climbing & games.
I think we were there at an unpopular time, because we seemed to have the whole place practically to ourselves - and it was AWESOME! None of us had ever been there before, and we enjoyed every bit of it. The staff was delightful, and it was obvious that they all loved working there. The caverns were beautiful, but what really made it fun was the tour guides. They were funny and informative, and the history of the place is really cool. And then there were all the activities! So much fun. You know it's a good day when the kids are too tired to walk back to the car.
A few pro-tips - don't do the foam pit until last, because you'll get totally soaked. Wear sturdy walking shoes in the cavern. Bring some extra cash for the gift shop, because it's awesome! Wear glasses or goggles in the cannon shooting gallery! Plan to do EVERYTHING!

Great visit here today. We really enjoyed the cavern tour. Great new lazer show during the tour. The group was a little big in our opinion but the guide did well managing it. I think a smaller group would have made for a much better time. But it is a great time if your in the area.

we drove up today from the Columbus Ga Area.. about 2 hrs.
let me say, I'm giving only 3 stars, but it may not be reflective of the location. I'll get to it.
so.. overall, the Caverns park was clean, friendly and family friendly. it's attached to a campground I can't really comment on. it did look fairly nice from a distance. it's only getting three stars because it seemed most all the activities were targeting younger kids. ages 5/6 to maybe 12/13. not terribly exciting activities for slightly older kids. the prices for each activity, seemed a bit high, but I'm not sure how to lower them much and still make $$. a fine line there. We really did enjoy the cavern tour itself. it was a cool experience, and educational with some of the history associated with it.
End thoughts.. if you are passing through the area, if you have young kids, or maybe grandkids, it might be worth the visit. if you have older kids, it's not really worth the stop, and not really worth driving more than an hour for. Again, not a bad place, but not worth the cost + traveling to, just for the cavern park. maybe if you're camping?

We came on July 4th. Great day trip. Cameron’s we’re cool to see and hear the history. Asa was a wonderful guide and juggler!! The laser show was a bit underwhelming, music and sound were good though. Lots of activities for the kids. Some of them need some attention, but overall recommend for a days visit.

The experience was great! It is a little pricey for what you get, but it’s a great experience especially for a family with children! I paid about $175 for four people. The business does try to get people’s business by being very helpful and being polite. The park has a relaxing atmosphere! We went during the week, and there were a good number of people that day. My kids got to experience all the attractions that were published on their website. The attractions are mainly geared for younger people though. If you’re an adult, I wouldn’t invest in the all-inclusive ticket if I were you. The cave trek and laser show should be just fine. The place isn’t pristine perfect, but it’s not as bad as other reviews have made it out to be.

Coming from someone who's only ever visited one other cave (Ruby falls) I have to say that the main cavern is a sight to behold it felt like I was in some rock cathedral. The tour guide gave us ample time to enjoy the space, I did not feel like we were rushed at all. The history behind DeSoto caverns is somewhat interesting, but overall you're really there for the view. I would highly recommend anyone who likes caves/caverns, to definitely give this one a go.

Family 4 went today! It was a cold day so not everything was opened. We did everything we could. Cute little place for the family to enjoy. With that being said, I think it is a bit overpriced with everything not opened. Maybe consider a "winter" deal. My 5 and 3 year enjoyed it. We love finding caves and LOVED the laser show after the tour. It was majestic! We will be back and hope to camp out next time.

Overall, we enjoyed our experience. Most everyone was nice and very helpful. The train was inoperable while there, but there were many other activities for the Littles. The tour was great! Our guide made it rather enjoyable. Although, it was a little more on the pricey end. Approximately $50 per person.

My family stopped by and had an amazing time. We had a worker named Ervin or Erwin I believe. He took us in the cave, showed us the many activities (archery, train, water balloons etc.) The customer service was so friendly.
Andrea Montgomery — Google review
The caverns themselves were amazing and our tour guide, Anna, was great, everything else was "eh" at best. First, the tour is WAY overpriced. The grounds themselves are in complete disrepair and are falling apart. The gift shop floor is hazardous, the faucets in the bathrooms were falling off, none of the doors had latches that worked and there are no employees. No signs for directions, no information, nothing. You walk in and just wonder around until you figure things out. $130 for 2 adults and 2 kids is RIDICULOUS if you can't keep the facilities maintained. Also, I personally feel they have completely desecrated the cave. They have made so many "adjustments" and "alterations" you can't tell what is genuine and what is not. The colored lights make it hard to tell what the natural color of the formations are. There are wires running through so many formations and we are asked not to touch the formations, yet, they have destroyed many of them. The light show at the end, although impressive, has nothing to do with the cave itself and is a cheap ploy to bring in more tourism. Overall, I was not impressed with the Majestic Caverns overall and was disappointed that instead of focusing on the history and preserving the caves they have turned them into a money scheme.

This place is pretty cool. From WI and saw this place on Google. Decided to go day off the Iron Bowl, so it was dead. We were told from locals that it gets cold down in the caverns, but rest assured it's a comfortable 60 degrees. It's a guided tour, you can't touch anything- but plenty of photo opportunities and learning. Highly recommend if you haven't been. Waited less than 5 mins to start. Don't forget to tip your guide (Atticus you rocked!)!

The cavern is amazing. Having extra minutes to take more photos would have been nice but we spent 2 days exploring.
Some of the activities need renovations but they were still quite enjoyable.
I was really hoping to get a Majestic Cavern mug (loved the DeSoto clay mugs they use to have before the name change) but maybe one day!!!
We spent 3 days at the campground. Picnic table was rotted and falling apart but that's why we bring own own plastic table ... weather and nature happens. I definitely recommend coming to camp and spend a few days to fully enjoy the park.

Had a great time walking the trails. Very dog friendly place. The people working on Sunday were very helpful. Would recommend this to all ages. Also the have the Grits festival coming April 27 2024.

We had a nice time walking one of the trails and over the covered bridge, having a picnic at the tables by the water, and watching the geese. Even saw some of their eggs under an azalea under the patio off the back of the pavilion. The actual grist mill was closed because it was a Monday. We placed cash in the honor box. It was a nice time.

Kymulga Grist Mill Park is nice. I have never been there when the mill is open and running. The covered bridge is great. I enjoy historic sites like this. We happen to be there after a rain, so the trails were wet.

The park was basically open I guess. We dropped money in the box outside the store. The store was closed so the mill could not be viewed , the restrooms were locked and no one could be seen even though there were a couple of vehicles parked there. The campground looked nice from a distance. We were only there a few minutes and took some pics. We are doing a tour of covered bridges in Alabama. The whole park looked well kept and would probably be a nice place to visit when it is fully open.

This was my first time visiting Kymulga Grist Mill. It was a lovely outing. The mill itself is still functioning and very interesting. You can purchase stone ground flour, corn meal and grits milled right here. Beyond that, there is an old covered bridge leading into a park with lots of hiking trails to enjoy. By the way, these trails are very easy to hike making them accessible to everyone. I highly recommend this park for a very nice day trip.

What an amazing little gem. My husband and I came up to the cavern to celebrate our 19 year anniversary. And looking on the map at historic sites I realized I've seen pictures of this place and had to go. We were not disappointed. It's very peaceful and a nice step back in time. Was show inside the mill and learned so much. And honestly wasn't ready to leave. Will definitely be going back and enjoying this place in the spring.

Had a great Valentine’s Day here! We were greeted in the parking lot by Gracie, the sweetest pup and grounds keeper! She took us to check in and then took us on the trails. She stopped and had lunch with us! It was so peaceful there. We also were able to tour the mill and received a history lesson from the owner and he also showed us how the corn mill and grits are made. We learned that honey bees live in the mill walls and make sweet honey from the tulip poplars on the property. Can’t wait to go back and get a park membership. Highly recommend visiting here!! Also the bathrooms were the nicest I have ever seen at a place like this!!!!.
The Birmingham Zoo is a large and sprawling zoo that features elephants, lions, and hundreds of other animals. It is great for all ages and offers curious guests the chance to see some of the planets most fascinating creatures up close.
Glow Wild at the Birmingham Zoo is absolutely incredible. There are many lighted sculptures and it's fun to meander around and try to see them all. The train ride is about 8 minutes and you get to see a lot of different areas. This is a great family-friendly event that's totally enjoyable for adults as well. Have a hot chocolate with Schnapps to take the chill off and wander around the fairy tale grounds. Highly recommend! Also can't wait to visit the Zoo in the daylight hours and see the real animals which are not part of Glow Wild since it's dark.

We visited yesterday for Memorial Day. There wasn't a line to enter so that was great. The zoo layout is good and the pathways provide a combination of sun and shade so we weren't too hot. I believe the majority of the animals were out for us to see. They don't give you a physical map and the digital one was confusing. It is better to use the large maps throughout the park.
Now for the cons. A lot of the exhibits with glass were hard to see through because it was so dirty. It made seeing and taking decent pictures nearly impossible. The food and drinks are so overpriced. Pack your own water to avoid paying $5 a bottle. There were quite a few off exhibit display signs so I'm not sure which animals we didn't get to see.
Overall a good experience. We enjoyed ourselves.

My middle daughter and I love the zoo. I’ve been here three years and this was my first visit to the zoo. It was great, even though it was mid week and cold outside. So we got memberships and excited to go see the lights one evening.

Been coming here since I was a child in the 90s and it's still as big & fun as I remember. The elephant habitat was beautiful and the elephants were interactive and enjoyed eating their snacks off the ground in front of us. The entire place was clean and well kept. My favorite part of the grounds is the giant Wisteria canopy that was in full bloom when we went in early spring. It was breathtakingly beautiful and made the whole area smell amazing.
Most of the animals were sleepy on the day that we visited so there wasn't much action but that's to be expected. They have a pretty cool swamp for their reptiles. Use discretion if you have any autistic children as the crowd was pretty closely packed in the indoor habitats at times, but we were allowed to roam free throughout the zoo without needing to follow a group or guide.
The only real complaints that we had are regarding the parking situation and the concessions/food options. Parking was a nightmare, we ended up having to just pick a random spot close to the parking area and go with it. This zoo does not allow outside food or drink, yet the restaurant with the outdoor dining area didn't provide a great experience at all. We waited over 40 minutes after placing an order for a burger and fries and ended up just having to get a refund and keep it moving as we were just so tired of waiting. Not to mention the prices of the menu items are way too high.
It was also like $20 to rent a stroller which is ridiculous when you can go purchase a new stroller at a department store for the same price. They even charge you to feed the animals which is insane. I could understand paying a few quarters for a handful of feed like at other places, but come on. There is a substantial discount for children and for families on EBT which is awesome, but they'll charge you for every tiny thing on top of the entrance fees, so be prepared for that.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the zoo with my five-year-old cousin's kindergarten class. We had an enjoyable and educational experience. The zoo showcased a diverse range of animals, including elephants, giraffes, various bird species, and lions. The red pandas were particularly adorable. We were fortunate enough to witness the newborn giraffe, which was a special treat. The train ride provided a welcome respite from walking and allowed us to rest and take in the surroundings.
We dined at Wild Burger, which, while somewhat pricey, is understandable given the need for revenue generation. Every staff member I interacted with was knowledgeable, helpful, and passionate about their work. This was my inaugural visit to the zoo, and I intend to return in the future.

I would definitely recommend! Food and drinks are horribly overpriced!!!! Almost $5 for a 16.9 bottle of water. Didn’t get to see any tigers. They only had a lioness no lion. All we saw was 1 elephant. We went with our daughters school. It was still great! Had lots of fun!

We came to celebrate my nephews first birthday. I enjoyed the Zoo so much. I want to get a season pass and come out more. I love that they have many shaded areas along with a splash pad for the kiddies. I love that you can rent a wheelchair, electric cart , or strollers for the kids. I love that the Zoo has upgraded and I actually enjoyed the food here too.

We had a lovely visit to the zoo! We arrived fairly early to ensure we saw as many animals before their afternoon feed and siesta. They were wide awake and ready to roar. Speaking of roars, as we walked by the lion, he was revving up and let out the biggest, deepest roar!! It was a first for us all to hear and gave us such excitement! Our little ones will never forget the experience! It was a lovely day, not too crowded, and lines to the train and carousel were minimal. Thanks to the zoo keepers and helpers for a wonderful visit.

Prepare to be amazed at this exceptional zoo! Impeccably maintained, spotlessly clean, and staffed by an incredible team, our visit left us with an overwhelmingly positive impression. So much so, that we made the decision to become proud members! We eagerly anticipate returning to this extraordinary establishment, not just once, but again and again. We are especially excited about the upcoming holiday celebrations, as they provide the perfect backdrop for creating cherished memories with our children. With endless opportunities for learning and play, this zoo has truly captured our hearts and ignited our imaginations.

I thought this place was great for a side trip while in the area. The elephants were a highlight because they have a spacious habitat to walk around. There was one elephant in particular that liked to rest by leaning against a rock and stood around with his back legs crossed. The lion roared really loud once and we heard it all the way on the side of the zoo!

Visiting this zoo from North Carolina! While it was hard to not compare one of the largest zoos to this one. I did notice a lot of things that made this zoo feel very outdated.
The windows in almost all of the exhibits where nasty and dirty. It would have been nice to have them clean and be able to see through them (and yes that is possible). The seal tank looked like it was something out of the 80s that was abandoned. Traffic should have been re-routed around it due to its looks. Lots of the park just needs regular maintenance, lots of spider webs inside places or dark corners. Lots of closed exhibits as well.
I will say, being a small park, we were able to get very close to the elephants and that was very nice. We were also able to hear the lion roar which was really cool.
This zoo is a one and done type thing, unless you live local and do the events that they have (similar to how big museums do).

As a family we love going to the Birmingham zoo. I advise getting the annual pass though. From lions and elephants to otters and exotic birds they have a large selection of animals. The animals are usually out and easy to view. I honestly don't know what the rules are on this but no one seems to mind or say anything when we bring our own snacks or drinks which is really nice when you are trying to save money.
Pros:
-The lorikeets are amazing and so much fun to interact with.
-The vast array of animals that can be seen
-Membership is reasonably priced
-There's a petting zoo
-There's a small splash pad that is free. It is very small though
-There are play areas
Cons:
-The zoo is not staffed very well which means there are few people to regulate what other guests are doing. I have found people smoking cigarettes before and there was no one around to report to.
-Because it's so short staffed, you don't get to talk to the zookeepers very often to ask questions
-Extras like the train and carousel are a bit pricey

I hadn't been to B'ham Zoo in years and had been wanting to go again but admit I felt a little apprehensive after reading the more recent reviews and many were low star ratings. However we had a good experience today and I felt those bad reviews were very misleading. While some exhibits were closed, that can be expected with renovations. The zoo was packed and looked clean and nice. Still lots of animals to see even with the few that were not on exhibit. The train was a nice and a relaxing ride that lasts for a pretty good about of time for only $3.95/ticket. You can see some animals as well as some back lot areas of the zoo as the train meanders a circle around most of the zoo. It will be neat to go back again sometime after they finish renovations. (We do not live in state so that is the only reason we will not be able to visit more often).

Nice size zoo, you can see everything's and be leisurely about it in about two hours. The Birmingham botanical gardens are also close. Get there early and get tickets online to avoid the crowd! Food was quick at their zoo restaurant. Parents and kids can be rude in this area though, that's not the zoos fault! A few animals were not in exhibits, hopefully everyone will be "home" by summer. Interesting play structures for children.

We had such a fun day. At the gate you can purchase tickets for the train ride, carasel and general admission. You can purchase tickets to feed the giraffes, as of Sept 24, 2022 it was $4 per person, kids under 2 is free. The zoo employee was sweet in handing us lettuce to give to the giraffes and take pictures for us. We loved seeing the primates and the elephants. There are loads of animals to see such as zebras, ostrich, red pandas, sand cat, lion, jaguar, and so on. They are adding some new exhibits very soon. If you do the train make sure to check the times for when it departs, we made a mistake of not checking and ended up not being able to get onto the train by the time we left the zoo. If you need strollers or wheelchairs you can rent those, the kiosk is on the outside of the gift shop. They don't hand out maps, there is a QR code you can scan to get the map on your phone. The gift shop is very nice, we bought only a magnet but they sell toys, stuffed animals, clothes, hats, jewelry, hand soaps, posters and many more things.

I like visiting different American cities and it is always nice when the city has a zoo. I say that because, with two teenage girls, zoos are the one attraction that we can all agree to visit. On a recent trip to Birmingham, Alabama, we had several hours before our flight from the local airport, and it was just the amount of time we needed to visit the Birmingham Zoo.
We arrived at the zoo around noon and, fortunately for us, it wasn’t very crowded and we didn’t have any trouble finding a place to park. Walking inside, we decided to forgo using a map and started to visit the different animals based on whatever caught our attention. We continued to go from one section to the next until we had covered everything, which took less than two hours.
The Birmingham Zoo is staffed by friendly folks and even though it wasn’t that crowded overall, there were lots of kids present, many of them from local summer schools, apparently. It was great to see so many happy children making their way from one animal exhibit to the next and learning about the different species. Zoos are great fun and great education for young people and it was nice to see so many youngsters soaking up the scenery and learning about the creatures that inhabit our planet.
There were a fair number of animal exhibits that were closed, so we were a little disappointed in that respect. We also noticed that some of the areas, while clean, were in disrepair and this was most evident with the indoor exhibits. We also noticed that the Birmingham Zoo does have a train that will take you from place to place, for an added fee. We decided to keep walking, but it is good to know that this option is there, for those who need it.
The animals on display at the Birmingham Zoo seemed to be well taken care of and while this zoo isn’t as large as others I have visited, it proved worth the investment of time and money. It is very close to the airport- only about 7 miles away- and thus made for a nice excursion before flying home. I recommend a visit if you find yourself in the Birmingham area.

Great family zoo! Fantastic walkways, paths, and landscaping. My personal favorites are the primates, reptile house, girraffes and Elephants. However you won't be close to the Elephants as their range is a far distance from the public viewing areas. Plenty of parking, and vending for food. The Lorokeet experience is a must! Especially with children! Reasonable admission prices too, just a little over 20. For adults and children are about 17.

Went to the Birmingham Zoo on my sons 16th birthday February 21st. The cost of three tickets was $65.
We enjoyed the zoo and were a little let down due to some exhibits being closed. Would be nice not to be charged full price. We also were let down the Wild Burger restaurant was closed when we were there. We ate at the other restaurant called Nourish 205. Good burgers/fries and great personal pan pizzas. With the cost of admission and food we spent $100
Overall we had a good/fun first time visiting this zoo!

I remember going to the Birmingham Zoo as a kid and being amazed at all the different animals in their habitats. It was such a treat to go and I enjoyed myself immensely. I have such fond memories and wanted to do my part in supporting the zoo when I became an adult. I purchased a membership right away and take my children regularly.
However, lately the zoo seems to be in terrible shape. Of course when you walk in, it looks newly redone, but the exhibits themselves look awful or are closed most of the time. We went today, and I took more photos of different sections being blocked or roped off than actual animals. Then, when you do see an animal it is through filthy glass or plastic shields. The reptile and feline areas are disgraceful. There has been an awful job done boarding up and patching instead of remodeling it.
I purchased train tickets just so we could have something to do today. But even that was disappointing. There is more trash or storage than animals being seen. I don't understand. Even what I was told originally when gifted our first membership has changed. The facility is no longer open year long, except for holidays. I have to make sure it's not a Monday or Tuesday and then pray we get to see anything before closing at 4 p.m. The coupons I recieved are worthless. The parakeet house is under construction and the giraffe feedings are hardly ever being offered. The carousel Is still being refurbished and the camel rides are no longer available.
I am all about preserving wildlife and protecting different species. But I do not see much of that being administered according to the state of the place. I feel awful for a lot of the creatures, and my kids were upset by how most of them looked -- when actually seen. It was a very sad trip and makes me question if I want to keep investing money into something that holds no value or little benefit.

It's been 2 years since our last visit to the birmingham zoo. The entrance and courtyard area are new and beautiful so was the gift shop. Unfortunately most of the other areas are still in major need of an update. I was very surprised to see even fewer animals than my last visit. The animals that they did have were beautiful and healthy. I paid 91 dollars for four adult tickets and a single 12 oz can of beer was 10 dollars. Both were outrageous. The reptile display was still closed. There was a cool looking roof top area that could be used as a bar that over looked the zoo. The progress has been extremely slow and it seems like there are several opportunities that aren't being utilized. Overall we were disappointed with the present state of the zoo. Let me also say it bothers me to say this because I support the zoo 100 percent. Whoever is calling the shots in birmingham needs to send funds immediately to fix this situation. The city leaders should be ashamed of themselves for letting this happen.

The Vulcan Park and Museum sits atop Red Mountain, encompassing a green space and an interactive museum detailing the city's industrial past. You can visit the park or take the elevator to the observation tower for panoramic views of Birmingham.
I love that this was a fun and easy hike up to from 5 points! I didn't get to go exploring the trails, just the museum and statue, but still enjoyed it quite a lot. One $6 ticket allows you into the museum and a ride up the elevator to the feet of the statue (or you also have the option to walk the staircase *inside* the pillar, which is absolutely what I did!). The museum is nicely done, approximately 7-8 rooms with the history of the town, culture, community, and struggles. It also gives a history of why this spot was so important to Birmingham. I would have loved to see more of the cave aspect, but I can only imagine it's not as safe or stable... You get a great overview of the city from even the base of the statue! There are binoculars to use, and a little drink and snack cart (with adult beverages!) to treat yourself after that hike. I loved that they had this really neat bicycle tuning tool near the parking lot! I've never seen anything like it! It had everything you could need to fix anything with your bike. How thoughtful!

I took my daughter on a very spur of the moment visit here. There was a super neat museum with a scavenger hunt to do while going through. Helps the kids pay attention instead of just running through. Everything was clean and well taken care of. The people working were very friendly and helpful. My daughter loved going to the lookout at the top of the statue. We took the elevator up and the stairs down. The kid loved the acoustics in the stairwell and took advantage by singing. The lady at the bottom of the statue praised my daughter's abilities, which made her day. They have a penny press machine, which is a cheap way to get a souvenir. The only negative is that the gift shop is pricey...but what gift shop isn't..

We visited last month and really enjoyed our time. We arrived after 6pm so the museum was closed. The gentleman at the booth also informed us that the statue was closed for viewing as they were repairing something that had caused water damage. Unexpected, simple beauty. Great museum to learn some history of Birmingham, the Civil Rights movement, how the Vulcan came to be....even Coke and Pepsi. The park grounds are well manicured. Great views of the city can be had here without even climbing to the Vulcan's highest level. Being able to take the stairs or the glass elevator up the statue is a great option. You are only able to get to the foot of the Vulcan which is still extremely high. Overall a great park.

We stopped by the Vulcan Park and Museum before it was opened for the day, so I cannot speak to the museum itself. But the huge Vulcan monument is pretty impressive. It is the largest cast iron statue in the world, and is the city symbol of Birmingham, Alabama, United States, reflecting its roots in the iron and steel industry. We also enjoyed viewing the Lone Pine Mine of the same property as well as walking down the old rail bed for the Birmingham Mineral Railroad. It was a good stop for us to see this Birmingham landmark.

I was in Birmingham, Alabama on a business trip and I had a little time before my next flight so I decided to take a quick ride to Vulcan Park and Museum. I was not disappointed! Even though it was an overcast day, the views of the city were very nice and I very much enjoyed the walk through the nice park, the informative signs posted along the way and, of course, the imposing statue of Vulcan, the Roman god of metalworking and forging! Inside, I found a museum that was full of good information about the history of this great working city and birthplace of the civil rights movement. I will sure come back with my family so they can experience this unique place in the history of America.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a museum that tells the history of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement and other human rights issues in the United States. It has permanent exhibits on both the past and present of human rights, as well as various other galleries and meeting rooms.
My wife and I, a retired cop and nurse had the distinct pleasure of making the acquaintance of Marshay Webb, BCRI Operations Manager today. Sometimes it's hard to believe that these events occurred during our lifetimes ? It's a graphic illustration that it did. Soon my generation will be gone and the institutional knowledge will go with us. But your Museum will continue to share this knowledge. Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful interpretive Museum!

What a powerful place to experience! Take your time & take it in. It reminds me how even when you advocate for the things that matter in loving ways, the response can be brutal. I especially love that the experience connects you to your own story and standing up for your values.

Fascinating and moving museum. The exhibits are thoughtful and well executed, and the facility well-designed for both education and reflection. The history here is both local and touched the world. Some of the other reviews on here are baffling. This isn't a theme park. It's not supposed to entertain you. Wouldn't recommend for younger kids; there's not much for them. Otherwise this is a must-visit in Birmingham.
Timothy Flathers — Google review
Wonderful museum, right in the heart of one of the most dramatic scenes of the civil rights movement. Give yourself a couple of hours at least; worth the visit. The exhibits were powerful and informative. Learned a lot.

Thoroughly told the history. Difficult to watch the videos and see the images, however necessary, as this is part of US history. My daughters are 8 and 11. They struggled at parts, as it was challenging for them to see images and hear certain aspects, but thankful they are learning now what happened in our country.

I'm not from the USA and we drove though Alabama today and then visited this museum. And I found it incredibly beautiful yet also confrontational. The museum is very well done and builds up well. I am not an emotional person but this museum actually made me cry and I really needed a break halfway to process the Incredible horror that was (and perhaps still is) done to people. Especially considering what I saw driving through Alabama earlier today it made me angry about the injustice that still exists, the ignorance of people waving around their "confederate flags". But I was also really impressed with the strength of the people who where able to stand up for justice and equality in the way they did. The staff was super friendly and I would absolutely recommend to visit this museum. My only comment would be that there should be an expansion to display the ongoing struggle, and the gift shop could be improved too.

Everytime we go out of town we look for educational museums and places to visit that talk about our history. This place didn't disappoint. Even though we've been to several Civil Rights Museums, this one not only focused on the movement but also Birmingham's role. A must visit.

We visited this museum after we went to EJI in Birmingham and to Selma. This museum is the perfect way to end a civil rights tour of Alabama (with the above mentioned museums/sites). The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute brought together and coalesced our previous experiences and knowledge.

Great experience from the ticket booth to the ending of the tour. So much information learned about the history of Civil Rights in the South. Prepare to read signages, watch videos, and view historic scenery and statues. Super educational and a must see!

A place to visit if you want to know more about Civil Rights. A lesson not to forget.

Was a very informational museum but you also have to be aware of who funded the museum, who is the audience, and what is the narrative being told?
Our director of our Southern Civil Rights Trip taught us to ask those questions to ourselves. He said banks that contributed towards slavery gave money to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and so their message is fuzzy. Because they are trying to clear their name.
There are some things worth seeing and learning here but there was a very confusing display about the KKK. I didn’t get what the display was teaching us because I just felt disgusted seeing real KKK wardrobe (that was anonymously donated said the sign 🙄) and hearing the quotes and phrases on the TV made no sense. It didn’t connect to tell a story or anything. So that was very odd.
All in all, I highly recommend going to the Equal Justice Initiative museum (The Legacy Museum) in Montgomery for learning more about history and the Slave Haven Museum in Memphis, TN.

Amazing exhibits with lots of beautiful art pieces. A must-see stop if you're in Birmingham, along with the 16th St. Church
Julia DeWitt — Google review
A group of us came here from New York and Atlanta to learn more about and appreciate the civil rights era.
This is a very nice museum that is well organized. On the positives, I saw my first KKK uniform in person. There's multiple videos that gives you an overview of the history, especially in Birmingham and Selma. The security staff and ticket booth staff were very pleasant and welcoming.
As far as opportunities, it's a little light on original artifacts. Some of the money spent on things like an automatic door to the video room could probably be better spent elsewhere. The staff inside the museum seemed rigid and a little more concerned about going home than educating guests, especially disappointing during this time of the year. I don't fault the humans, but maybe the strategy emphasis should be different.
Overall, good museum but could be so much more.

I went here at the beginning of November. I was so grateful my friends and I bought tickets online because it was sold out the day that we went. I highly recommend going to this museum as there is a lot of history that is shared and for us to learn about. Everyone was so kind and helpful, and I encourage you to check out their gift store!

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a profound and impactful museum that offers a valuable and educational experience. This historic institution pays tribute to the significant events and individuals who played pivotal roles in the Civil Rights Movement. You will begin with an 8 minute introductory video, then you are transported back in time, surrounded by powerful exhibits and artifacts that chronicle the struggle for equality. The museum's thoughtfully curated displays and interactive elements provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced and victories achieved during this transformative era in American history. The exhibits not only inform but also inspire visitors to reflect on the ongoing fight for justice and equality. The knowledgeable and passionate staff further enrich the experience, providing valuable insights and answering questions with depth and sincerity. A visit to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a humbling and thought-provoking journey that leaves a lasting impact, reminding us of the importance of standing up for justice and promoting social change.

Beautiful beautiful place. Especially the sunset by the bell in the end, it’s perfectly lined up for a great end to our self guided tour.
This museum is well designed to tell a store that anyone can appreciate. We go here on a MLK weekend and it wasn’t busy unfortunately.
McWane Science Center is a great place for kids to explore science and technology. With permanent exhibits covering a variety of topics, as well as interactive exhibits and programs for children of all ages, there's something for everyone at this Birmingham museum. The grounds also feature an aquarium, World of Water Aquariums, and Itty Bitty Magic City which are perfect spots for little ones to learn about fish and other aquatic creatures.
We love coming to the McWane Science Center! The itty bitty magic city is perfect for my one year old. The center itself is great, especially on a hot day. We also LOVE the new dragon exhibit.

I can’t remember the last time I’d visited this place. It was busy and bustling on a early Saturday afternoon. The staff was cordial and friendly while accommodating customers. The exhibits were pretty cool and informative. Great place to spend an afternoon with the family. The Legos exhibit was my favorite! I love how they incorporated local talent exhibits. Awesome job!

Really enjoyed the center. Wish we would of planned out more time so we could of stayed longer! We were here for 3 hrs with a toddler and a teenager - that definitely was not enough time.

The science museum is an awesome place for a day trip, and the kids loved it. I'm very surprised that it was not busier. It was practically empty.
Our kids loved being able to pet the sting rays and the tiny town.
We had 1 senior, 2 adults, 2 kids, and parking, and it was around $75.
They change features out, so there's something new every few months.

Absolutely must see if you have any dragon connoisseurs in your family. The 3rd floor is currently mostly a dragon exhibit. Great activities for engagement. The “Wings over Water” iMax documentary is very informative and interesting. The comment about parking are all accurate. It is a tight spot.

Fun for the whole family! Lots of ways to learn. While we were there my daughter was able to hold a sea anemone, pet a sea star, learn about various topics from the staff doing demonstrations, and use all of the wonderful interactive exhibits. There's a sting ray and shark petting tank which is a great experience as well! Added bonus with the IMAX in the building! Definitely get yourself a ticket. We highly enjoyed the Safari movie in the IMAX dome and felt like we were there with the animals! I cannot wait to go back again. Would even make for a fun date night!

There’s a little bit of everything for the whole family. We visited at the beginning of September while on vacation. We enjoyed it so much we were there until it closed. There’s are like 4 floors of activities but my daughter definitely favored the Magic City exhibit. If you have kids this is a must do while in Birmingham!

Plenty to do here. There are stairs & an elevator if needed. There is a small food cafe but it closed before I could try it. You will get a token at the counter if you used the parking deck & it's like a dollar off the rate.

The first floor is wonderful for young kids to explore and have a lot of fun. Third floor dragons were absolutely amazing. The aquarium in the basement was a bit disappointing. One of the sharks had a big sore.

The younger your kids are, the more they will enjoy it. All 4 floors are interactive. The "build your own" 4th floor was my 10 year old favorite. Really love the idea of chairs for the adults to use while the kids play.

Went there for a boy scout camp where we slept inside of the museum. I had no idea what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised at the balance of learning and fun activities for my son. The Imax was pretty good as well. The parking garage is a little scary though. Worth the trip, maybe even if you don't have kids!

I can't give this place enough stars. They need more than 5. They have so much to do and sensory rooms and special needs tools. It's fun for all ages. I brought a toddler and a teenager, we all three had an absolute blast and are making plans to go again.

We had the best time exploring and learning here! Lots of activities for 5yo, teens and parents to enjoy! As noted buy others the parking garage is sketchy and had I had a larger vehicle would not attemp. We ate lunch at the Cafe. That I wouldn't recommend at all. Way overpriced for what you are getting, bland and everything we tried had a weird taste to it. I wish we had packed a lunch and definitely will next time we vist.

Was worse experience I had there been a bunch over the years,4 kids 5 grandkids. But the staff was rude .. the age difference in groups of school age was inappropriate to be honest I wouldn't let another grandchild go without their own adult and my granddaughter was 9 I have one. 12 going next week and I hate to go again but I want let her go without an adult... Otherwise first time I touched a stingray.

This place is fantastic for the kids. You will need an entire day to explore and observe the center. It has some things to do, the kids wont get bored. It is divided in three sections. First floor is science and very hands- on. The second they have dinosour exhibit. They have a dedicated area for kids 6 years old under, and it is very pretty. It is worth your time and money. I had been different kids museum but this one has everything in one.

They do a great job at providing a place for your kids (and you) to explore, learn, and have fun while they are at it. It’s great for all ages! I’ve been going there for years, both as a child and with children. It’s also a great place for field trips. They have really cool temporary exhibits that come and go as well. I loved when they had the giant Lego room and you could build and race Lego cars down big ramps. We highly recommend McWane.
The Birmingham Museum of Art is a wonderful place with a sculpture garden and cafe that displays artwork from all over the world. The museum is free to enter and has an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, and prints from different cultures. It also offers children's activities such as scavenger hunts and interactive galleries for toddlers.
Lovely place to go and enjoy for free. Great for day date or for family. Pack snacks and you can stop and eat them at the seating area inside or in the garden if the weather is nice. My only complaint is that it was very warm when we went this past weekend. A thermostat we saw said 72 degrees... When walking through exhibits it seems even warmer than that. I do wish there were more modern exhibits.

A beautiful museum with a huge collection of art. Admission was free and staff members were kind. They had really cool displays, not just European art, an incredible Native American art collection!! Bathrooms were accessible and clean. They have small folding chairs you can carry around for free. You can stop to look at specific pieces or just to take a quick break.

Pretty small museum for the city. It’s about 2 floors and includes a sculpture garden. I would say it’s just an average/standard museum in comparison to other cities. We were done in about an hour. I was not particularly impressed by the collection, however they had a small exhibit called “Nappy” that focused on the hair of African American women and that was pretty incredible. I was almost disappointed that they didn’t have more pieces as this was the best part of the museum. I would come back because it’s free and a good place to visit, but don’t expect anything too large. They also had a paid exhibit on Disney movie costumes for a price, but we did not go in there. The museum shop was also small and half was all Disney related stuff due to the exhibit so that was a bit of a bummer.

What a surprise!!! I took a tour and found the Birmingham Museum of Art. It was great to see different relics and paintings from different eras. BUT the big surprise was Disney’s Heroes and Villains. A display of the actual costumes worn by actors and actresses from the live action films and shows!!!

It was clean, the free admission was awesome. And I loved the fact that they had a charging station! It came in handy when my phone started to die while I was taking pictures! All the exhibits had plenty of information and The bathroom was clean. I definitely enjoyed my visit here and plan on coming back with my children in the future.

Thoroughly impressed with this collection in an unassuming location. Beautiful artwork, heavier on the pottery and household items than most art museums, but still plenty of excellent painted art. Best of all, entry is free!

Must visit place if you are art lover or not. Huge collection of arts from all ancient times until now. Excellent facility and extremely well maintained. Amazed by the quality of art and the evolution over the ages. Couldn't restrict how people imagined and created such mesmerizing arts when the so-called modern technologies were not present. Must appreciate the museum authorities for the collection of arts and the way they maintain it. Will visit again and again for sure.

Awesome. The collections are diverse, and the historical background was insightful. The artifacts are so well displayed and in perfect condition. You need a whole day here, so many rooms with new thought-provoking history. The collections were impressive. The black hair gallery was disappointing and stereotype.
Staff and customer service were helpful, respectful, and watchful but discrete.
Big kudos to the museum staff and supporters. Well worth the visit.

This museum is such a resource to the city! This art museum features free admission (donation boxes provided), free (limited) designated parking, rotating special exhibits, weekly discussions focusing on a specific piece, special night-life events, and an event venue all wrapped up in this marbled, art-deco building. Birmingham truly is lucky! Recently, they recently partnered with Juniper, a local restaurant, operate as a cafe on weekdays during lunch and on specific weekends listed on the museum’s website. I cannot wait to go on a lunch date here with my wife! Definitely support this wonderful organization.

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is home to an astonishing array of motorbikes, dating back over a century of production. The museum also features a 16-turn road course, which is used by Grand-Am Racing Series and AMA Superbike.
Still absolutely in awe of the place. As a motorcycle enthusiast, there was so much to see. Everything was placed well so pictures weren't crowded or difficult to take. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the museum clean and nice. I would have liked to spent several days there as there is just so much to see. This is a Motorcycle lovers paradise. They also have vintage cars and race cars. There is an entire area donated to Lotus. The building is designed so beautifully and the motorcycles and vehicles are very well kept.
You would probably need to spend 4-5 hours to view Museum thoroughly. They also have a nice gift shop.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is also a track at location. This day a private club was using it.
I paid $33 total online for 2 tickets. If you would like 10% military discount you have to wait to pay on site. There is no military discount at store.

Amazing museum at the Barber Raceway. Enormous collection of mostly motorcycles. Also has some glimpses of the working racing research and design areas. If you plan to read every placard for each item you will need several hours. "There is just so much!", was the constant refrain as we toured.

Une visite à faire absolument ! Quelle collection immense!

A visit to absolutely do! What a huge collection! Lots and lots of motorcycles, from the very first to the very recent, some crazy, some original, some classics... We'll be amazed. 5 floors of motorcycles, cars and bicycles! And even motorcycle carousels!
We just can't access the basement which is reserved for vehicle renovation but as there is a large well in the middle, we can see the cars being repaired.
And what's more, the icing on the cake, we have access via footbridge to the test circuit! A pretty layout with flowers, waterfalls, funny or giant animal sculptures. And a bridge to clearly see the cars racing.
An exceptional visit! And practically alone!

Superb museum! Never a huge fan of motorcycles before I walked in, but one just can't help becoming one after walking out. The collection is unreal, going back to late 1800s, from all over the world to boot. Plus you can see a race, if they have one when you visit, which makes the place that much more memorable.

One of the nicest collections of motorcycles I have ever seen. If you like all generations and makes and models of motorcycles, you will love it. The history in this building is amazing. Definitely for the motorcycle history buff.

My family and I took a last-minute getaway to Birmingham and stumbled upon the Barber Musuem. The facility and grounds were extremely clean and very well laid out. And the workers and everyone we spoke to were all very friendly. This place was amazing - the incredible detail put into this place, the number of motorcycles, the unique layout of the building, the history of the bikes and cars! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the 4 hours we spent walking through the display and observing the cars on the awesome track outside. Even with the July heat, we loved being able to stand on the bridges over the track as the cars raced around. They even have a lovely wooded path that leads to a gazebo where we sat for a bit. This large wooded area is in the middle of the winding track.

If you have even the slightest interest in motorcycles, then the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is nothing short of a pilgrimage you must make. I've visited this awe-inspiring museum four times, and even that doesn't feel sufficient to fully appreciate the grandeur of its collection.
With over 1,600 vintage and modern motorcycles and racing cars on display, this place is truly the Guggenheim of motorcycles. The collection spans from 1904 to the present and includes bikes from 16 different countries, representing over 140 different marques. More than 900 motorcycles are on display at any given time, so you can imagine the scale of this monumental endeavor.
This museum isn't just a showcase; it's a love letter to the world of motorcycling. With bikes hailing from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden, the diversity and depth of the collection are unparalleled. It's no wonder that this Birmingham, Alabama gem is considered the largest motorcycle museum in the world.

This place is amazing. If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, doubly so. They have a huge, beautiful collection of motorcycles. Ranging from the late 1800's, to current production bikes, and everything in between. They also have plenty of cars, with a large display focused on Lotus vehicles, as well as a few other interesting items like outboard motors. The grounds outside by the race track are beautifully landscaped, and there is a trail you can walk with various pieces of artwork throughout a wooded setting. This is the best vehicle museum I have ever been to. Now I just need to get down there when there is a race on their track to complete the experience.

What a collection! If you or someone you love, loves anything that has wheels on it, this is a must! My entire family was in awe with everything there!
Brice, a new employee of 3 months couldn’t rant more about how much he loved working there, and how great the owner was. He even mentioned the owner knows all the employees by name! He mentioned he’s looking to save his money working there to buy a bike on display! Loved his passion and excitement!
Brice overheard how much my husband, 12 and 2 year old wanted to see the Shelby 1000, he looked at his watch and told us, I’ve got 5 minutes, follow me! He gave us a private tour and my family was through the moon about it!
We had an amazing time, would highly recommend! Thanks Brice for an unforgettable experience!

There is a new shop, Birmingham Bargains, they don’t have the sign up yet but it’s next door to the Nike store. Seriously good deals and quality products. They have athletic gear, shirts 2 for $10, shorts 2 for $10, socks 5 for $10 and so much more. Incredible deals!!!

I went to uniform outlet but the doors were locked even though there were customers inside shopping. I left and came back and finally got an employee to the door and she said she couldn't let anyone in because the system was down. So I guess the 3 or 4 people that were shopping while she said this were just pretend shopping? I can't really rate the store since I couldn't go inside so I went to bath and body works and this really fantastic gentleman named Jarrod (?) Gave me a wonderful customer experience. So kudos to him.

I always enjoy shopping here. Plenty of options, and you can always find some great deals. Very nice landscaping and the variety of food options is good.

This was a great place! Great idea with the drive-in, putt-putt golf by the two great restaurants. The food was delicious! We were even able to bring our dogs! They had live music too. I'd definitely recommend this place.

All major brand can be found in The shops of Grand River. Sometimes you will get extra discounts in store.

Been twice and there’s nothing “grand” about this. Neither time was I able to find what I went for. Weird layout like some “H” design with literal dead zones when you reach the end of each section. Everything conglomerates towards the center which consists of a sparse food court, trash blowing around and hick country music following you on every loudspeaker. There’s a very large community of well-fed stray cats hiding in the parking lot, so I suppose they help keep the rats away?
Nothing to see here but strange vibes and a mixed bag of varying social classes, cultures and races, all of whom appear annoyed and intolerant of everyone except for themselves and seem like they hate the world and everyone in it, especially the people who work here. I mean, if I didn’t know any better I’d think this place was built on some cursed land, so if you’re looking to kill time around some “mean spirits” well…”They’re here.”

I attended a car show there last weekend. It was amazing. There are plenty of food choices and shops to browse. It's a nice place for a day trip, and it's conveniently located close to Buccees and the Barbers Motorsport Museum to make it well worth the drive.

Very well kept mall, Ralf Lauren opens at 10:00 am and all stores open each day at 11:00 am. The food court was inside and there were clean bathrooms inside food court. The property was very clean. Already decorated for Christmas and playing Christmas music. There were plenty of opportunities and props to take pictures. You are outside going store to store, therefore weather may impact your shopping.

Cool outlet mall with a ton of stores. The common areas are outdoor sidewalks for a nice open air setup. Basically an outdoor mall with all the store fronts facing inward towards a concrete courtyard. Some of the many shops include Nike, Levi's, Old Navy, etc......too many to list. They also have a decent little food court. Great place to go shopping, I would recommend.

This is a great place to go to knock out some shopping! Whether you need a new back pack, on Clouds, or suits from Brooks Brothers- this comfortable, mostly shaded, outdoor outlet mall is the place to go! It also has a nice and clean food court with a variety of selections.
I can’t wait to go back!

A nice stop for shopping to break your road trip from Tuscaloosa to Atlanta up. Lots of brand named stores, a food court, public restrooms, and everything is within walking distance. I loved that I could just park out in front of the main entrance and I noticed that there was parking all around the property. The word "outlet" implied to me that I would find outstanding prices, but I didn't see any huge "gotta have it" prices. However, selection was ample, and I did love the outdoor mall feel you get there. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes so you'll feel like checking out more of the property. Loved the zen water feature located at the entry into the outlet mall. This place is located very close to the highway, and near one of the most amazing gas stations you'll ever experience(Buc'ees). Definitely worth the stop.

There are alot of different shopping stores there. I love Bath & Body works. There is a drive in movie theater there as well. And a bounce house type of park as well.
Bama Flea and Antique Mall is not only a great place for great deals on antique accessories and furnishings but also a great place for self care.
Unique gift items and reproductions are a nice mix to be found in this clean and nicely staffed facility as well.
To escape from the craziness of the world and to just walk and browse is extremely helpful in my life and my mental health.
Kudos to Bama Flea and Antique Mall,

Huge store with tons of things to look at! Easy to spend a couple of hours in there if you are casually browsing. My only complaint is that several booths were severely overcrowded, where you might see something you're interested in but would not be able to physically get to it. (Maybe management could speak to the vendors about this issue). All of the employees were extremely kind and friendly, even helping me get an item I bought into my vehicle. I would gladly shop there again!
***edited to add- the two stall doors in the women's restroom do not have latches on them, so as I was sitting on the toilet another lady came in and we had an awkward eye contact moment because the stall doors won't stay closed. Adding latches to the doors is a very cheap and easy fix, which I would highly recommend.

My wife and I can spend hours in here. I believe that you could walk through 100 times and still find something Interesting to look at. The employee's are very helpful. Booth after booth of deals from antiques and art to things you've never seen before.

Awesome Antique Mall. I wasn't able to walk the entire massive Antique Mall due to a Broken Spine in several places. I'm in a Back Brace with alot of nonstop pain. I plan to come back to this Awesome Antique Mall when my health gets better. Truly loved the variety of merchandise there.

It was extremely over priced. Some vendors were complaining about not selling much, well if you had reasonable prices things would sell. A lot of booths had 50% and even an 80% off discount, but the “original” price was astronomical. The ladies that were at the register were nice enough. Just need to watch out for the vendors and the shoppers. If you are looking for places to purchase things, AVOID this one.

Spent my birthday with my boyfriend looking around on February 17, 2024. It was my 2nd time going there and his 1st. Saw a lot of cool stuff but didn't buy anything. Was just a day of spending time with each other!

I have been going there at least once a month for 3 years now. The place smells musty. The majority of the booths are a mess. The prices are ridiculously high. And the inventory never changes.
I really want to support a local business.
This place has potential, but has turned into a flea market

There's A TON of stuff here and some of the booths were very very nice and some were thrown together or a little junky where you couldn't even see in it. Prices varied between booths, they had some new items and lots of vintage and some antiques. Interesting place to visit you'll never see it all in one trip!

This was a really fun place to walk through, but the prices on this junk are outrageous. Make sure to use Google Lens before you make a purchase. A lot of this stuff can be bought online brand new for a few dollars more. The use of the word "vintage" became a running joke with my family.
We walked through here in about two hours and had a really good time. There is lots of neat stuff to look at, and a lot of childhood memories came up.

Super fun store with a wide variety of options! It's different every time I go.

A little bit of everything.... From yard sale junk to antiques, to tactical gear, to handmade decorations. Good prices on the whole. I'd definitely go back.
The bathroom though... If you can skip it, do so. It is desperately in need of updating, the stall doors are not low enough to the ground, and the door itself was sticky and in need of a repaint.
Sodas and water on sale at the front, a nice touch.

This is a cool and old looking environment with a lot of different things and supplies great for decorating anything really. I went there to find decorations for my chicken coop and found many thing I liked and actually bout some of them. Some vendors have reasonably priced items but there where a couple people tryna get rich for the prices they wanted. I recommend going and checking this place out. P.S. they sell snacks and have a restroom.

Updated review!! Apparently I had this place confused with the flea market in Mobile! So, deleted entire review!! Bama is great! All indoor, great prices, unusual finds and very friendly staff! I could have spent hours here! So much to see and buy! I bought 2 1920's era light fixtures for $20 plus tax. 1 was just the main 5 bulb holder part but the other had the chain, canopy, sockets, etc...! Just needs wired. Original painted areas. This is just an example of a great price in my eyes! A complete fixture with wiring in tact can fetch anywhere from $100-$1,000 on eBay and in antique stores. Ya just have to be able to identify these items and be willing and able to invest the time and minimal money to replace missing or damaged parts! In the 1case, I just need to replace the wiring and possibly add 5 suitable globes! Globes aren't necessary but would increase the value if I buy authentic 1's and just bring it back to working condition! But anyway, great mall! I loved it and will return if I ever make it back up that way! Get there early because there is lots to see!! (Pics are the 2 fixtures. 1 was $15 the other was $5)

My wife and I love to go to antique malls, and this is a nice one, if for nothing else.just to look at all the stuff people are selling. We go up and down all of the rows, and even if we don’t buy anything, we get a bit exercise because the place is huge. The sheer variety of items for sale Is just astonishing. The only drawback is that based my rather extensive my knowledge the normal prices of used items, both very old and not, the prices at antique malls, including this, are usually expensive. (Venders have to pay monthly for the small spaces they rent and they have to cover their costs.). However, you can find some deals. FaceTime Brown I bought a couple ballpoint pens and my wife bought a very nice crystal vase for about five dollars.
They have done amazing things with this park. Always upgrades I love this place. It's one on those things that makes me wish I was closer. Beach, splash park, ball fields, nature trails, clean bathrooms, covered picnic areas that are huge, there are a massive amount of POKE STOPS and POKE GYMS... and of course the boat ramp.
