Soldier Mountain
Ski resort
Nature & Parks
No-frills resort offering a variety of trails, backcountry skiing, powder glades & a terrain park.
With the caveat that it's 1/2 the price of Sun Valley lift ticket.... It's a relatively small and easy skiing mountain, but it's never busy and everyone is friendly and having a good time. There are a lot of beginners, but plenty of space. Go try it out on a day with new powder and it'll be a great change of scenery. ...2 hours from Boise.

I grew up skiing Soldier. I would often come up and ski with 3 generations. Grandma and Grandpa staying the weekend in their camper. Soldier introduced me to skiing and without realizing, the mountain introduced me to Stoke. Skiing my whole life around the US, I've realized that, Skiing/riding, isn't about the individual, it's about the shared experience. It's about family and friends sharing the joy of riding together.
Just as I remembered, Soldier and staff are still full of stoke for the sport, for families, for the little rippers who become big rippers. This mountain is a pure joy. It fills my heart that it is still operating, still spreading the joy and filling the next generation with the Stoke. Thank you Soldier and staff! Your hard work and dedication is not unnoticed. Keep it up for the next generation!

Interesting mountain east of Boise. Very old school vibe. No trees but great terrain. Would love to book a cat trip here.

This is a HIDDEN gem! You literally have the mountain to yourself. The snow is great and the Burgers are fabulous! The snow is great. The base sits high and the powder is amazing! This is a must visit ski resort in Idaho. No lift lines and everyone is so friendly. Very family friendly

Decent runs, kids loved it. Cheapest priced mountain I've ever been to in Idaho. Food wasn't too expensive nor impressive, but not bad. Beautiful place. FYI, no cell phone reception, but Lodge had wifi but it's spotty.

For our first visit, it was nice. We paid for a 2-hour beginners class. Wish the instructor took more time with the basics. The food was wonderful!! Great trip!!

Such a great family resort. We love it there. The staff is always friendly and they do a great job of keeping skiing affordable.

Beautiful place to ski, plenty of ungroomed areas, almost no lines, good lift prices (online is $15 less)

Had the opportunity to ski a little almost every day for the past 3 weeks. Snowfall this year was pretty good, but was a little warm and wet for the most part &, sometimes a soaking wet rain/snow mix. sometimes icy, sometimes dangerously so. They groom the heck out of the place, except when conditions are at their worst. Most runs have a roller-coaster quality to them, which I usually like. There are no miles long cruisers like some other unnamed Idaho resorts. If you are new, or lose track of where you are you might end up doing a lot of uphill walking. You sometimes have to search for the easy way down, can be hazardous if conditions or visibility is less than optimal. Ski Patrol is everywhere, and they have a number of exceptionally talented people. This is probably the safest place on the planet to be in case of an accident/incident. And from what I've watched of the ski school, they are remarkable as well. Overall, I had one day with perfect snow, But visibility was terrible and it could not be fully enjoyed. Otherwise, about 3 out of ten were more enjoyable than challenging, the rest was heavy wet snow, or ice, or raging wind. The resort could do a better job of keeping the the upper part of the highway open. The county could do a much better job with the lower part of the highway, considering it's one of the county's larger businesses. I've sampled most of the food and enjoyed most of it.. Tamales and chili are not to be missed when available. This from a disgruntled former employee.
I did have, while working the bunny slope, people ski up & down using the magic carpet, then try the lift, and come right back to the carpet saying "those greens are a little bit scary." IMHO some clearing and contouring is required if Forest Service will ever allow it.

Great little ski area with nice staff and great lodge.
We are delighted to have visited Easley Hot Springs, a tranquil location that is not crowded. Although the facility itself may be outdated, it exudes a wonderful atmosphere. The temperature of the hot tubs is similar to that of the pool, which is comfortably warm due to the natural springs. It is important to refrain from wearing silver jewelry as it may tarnish when exposed to the water's minerals. Overall, we felt incredibly relaxed during our visit.
Great facility, large pool, plenty of poolside seating. Not to mention one of the most beautiful views I have ever laid eyes on! Very friendly staff. A must do!
Kerie Tarter — Google review
We were so glad that we came here! It's a quiet spot, not crowded at all! The facility itself is a bit outdated but it has a great vibe. Hot tubs are not much hotter than the pool, which is comfortably warm from the springs. Don't wear any silver jewelry! It will change color in the water (even in the shower) and you will need to clean it. Minerals in the water cause this. We felt very relaxed overall :-)
JitkaKac — Google review
Great staff and nice place to enjoy some hot springs. There are two main sitting pools and one large pool. It’s a great setting next to the Big Wood River.
Note that the maximum occupancy is 35 and if you don’t get there early it’s worth a call before heading over.
There is a small store with reasonable prices. Ice cream, candy, and drinks.

The temperature was appropriately warm for a natural hot spring. Facility was modest and well kept. Very peaceful! The view was excellent! If you're coming in from Ketchum or Sun Valley, GPS will have you turn late, follow brown signs. Would definitely visit again!
Angela Waelti — Google review
The staff lady member was super nice. She let us look at the pool in the hot tubs before we committed. The place is pretty cool. The water has lots of sulfur in it. It turned my white gold ring weird colors. It went back after I swam in a normal pool later on that day. I would totally stop in and check this out. It's only $8 per person. The building definitely needs a lot of updating. The maintenance is a bit lackluster. The hot tub could use a fresh coat of paint and cleaned out. But it was cool to hang out for about half an hour and then continue on on our trip. I highly recommend it. The three stars as strictly for the disrepair and lack of maintenance.
Chris — Google review
First off, the pools are first rate!!! The spas are wonderful and WELL worth the cost, which is not that much.
But more importantly, these guys are wonderful. We were there and our battery died. No cell service, in the middle of no where, I was running out of options. I didn't go in to them - They came out to me to see if they could help. One of the guys working there went back to his house to get jumper cables and set us up. We are eternally grateful.
But, in addition to that, whether they helped with the battery or not, the pools are great! Don't hesitate to come.

Just as amazing in Summer as in Winter. The gondola ride is breathtaking followed by the open lift ride to the summit. It feels like you can see all of central Idaho. We spent a beautiful morning on the mountain hiking and just enjoying the views.

Very steep, probably not appropriate for beginners (and dollar mountain is a little ways away, so you lose some time if you want to switch mountains). But it's very fun! I went when there had been a lot of snow and the powder was good. Not too icy, even in the afternoon it wasn't too bad. Everything here is really expensive though.

Great variety of run’s, from fresh tracks open fields, to groomed runs. Amazing views, great snow conditions, hardly any wait at the chairs. Fun Mountain to ski for all level of skiers.

The name says it all and sunny it was when I was there! This mountain has it all: groomers, moguls, bowls, trees, etc. And all whilst having a constant pitch. Never skied as much vertical in one day as I have here! Plus zero lift lines on a saturday

What an awesome place to hike! The trails were well marked and it was amazing. We plan on going back to do more of the trails. I was healing from a mountain bike accident so I couldn't hike as far as I wanted. We turned around and hike a spur that crossed over to the other side and hiked back to the parking lot. I like that there are a few picnic tables available if you want to have lunch or a snack. The vault toilet was clean but the door wouldn't shut so you had to have someone stay at the door to keep it closed. Can't wait to go back again (maybe when it is a little cooler).

We have passed by this place and this time decided to stop. So very glad we did! The cave was fun to go through. We loved carrying the lanterns they gave us. This isn't a cave where you get a tour. This is self guided and is mainly rocks. It is still very cool. The museum was packed with things to see. There were some very interesting artifacts. We loved the peacocks that were everywhere. The road is prerty rough but very doable, even for an RV. Don't pass this place without stopping. You will have a great time.
Donna Smith — Google review
It was a cold, short, and pot-holy cave walk. $15 admission for a 20 minute walk through and back. Lots of holes and railing is thin and Sharp chicken wire. Was the cave worth seeing? Not really, it's just an average cave. Lots of better ones.
There is also a museum included. I don't know how it relates to the caves but it's just a taxidermy hoarders room. Smells bad and is hot and humid.
Honestly the best part of it was the cold air and the peacocks outside.
Elyssa Hatfield — Google review
You will feel like you are driving into the middle of the nowhere desert, but just follow the (somewhat rough) gravel road and about a mile and a half back you will find it. Start with the cave. It's a relatively easy, short walk and they provide the lanterns. It is a little cooler inside, around 40° (it was 100+ outside). The museum is a trip and you could easily spend hours in there. There were lots of peacocks running wild around too! Make sure you're comfortable with taxidermy.
LeAnna Rankin — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Mammoth Cave! We purchased all three attractions (e.g., self-guided tour of the cave, and the two museums), we were lucky because one of the two museums had JUST opened a couple weeks before we arrived! Fascinating artifacts and history. There were also quite a few live birds traveling around the premises that would give you a good laugh! The cave itself was exceptional. We liked the self-guiding aspect because we could take all the time we wanted. It was eerie and beautiful at the same time. Would come back!
Angela S — Google review
Strange, but worth going to. Once. I guess. *shrug* The "museums" are an eclectic combo of stuffed mamals, reptiles, insects, and anything in the world you can think of. Old pottery, strange collections of just about anything you can think of, but you are not sure you need to see. Not at all what we expected. We have driven past this 200 times or more, and this weekend, on the way home, we decided to stop and take a look. The museums are dusty, and parts smell like dead stuff, but that's what they are, really. The cave was cool, starts off big, and like the name says, it becomes mammoth. Is it worth the $15 admission? Not really, but go once, so you can tell your friends. The peacocks and other birds were fun to see, and the rock faces are cute, but you can see all of that without the cost of admission. Just sayin'.
Susan H — Google review
The museum was filled to the brim with really amazing artifacts and animals! I feel like we could have used 2 hours just for the museum so that we could see every part of it! There were so many creatures to read about and so many things to see… It reminded me of a Ripley’s believe it or not collection!
The mammoth cave was amazing as well. I love that they provide you with a lantern to use and paved steps and walkways to tour on. The cave was massive and definitely a must see if you are in the Shoshone area!
Cristen Short — Google review
Our kids enjoyed their time here and so did the parents. We loved going on a self guided tour with lanterns. The cave is huge and just kept going! The museum had so much to look at it and we learned a lot. We loved all the peacocks. Highly recommend. Friendly and helpful staff!
Bethany W — Google review
Can't miss this place. Not your average museum. The taxidermy here is like nothing you'll find anywhere else. Note the pictures. The museum has everything from "what the hell is this" to very interesting unusual historical artifacts. The huge round museum building is unique. The person charging admission mentioned that the museum is basically the collection and work of mostly one man. Clearly a very interesting man with quite the eclectic collection. The cave walk is an opportunity walk down a good sized lava tube still in relatively good condition. It’s a short walk around back behind the museum and down into the cave. You walk to the end of the cave on a raised walkway and back out the way you came. It is not wheelchair accessible.
Edit to correct typos.
Ben Johnson — Google review
This was an interesting place to visit. The cave was refreshing, considering it was hot outside! The pathway in the cave is narrow and steep in places, as well as bumpy. Overall it was safe for the most part. The museums were full of historical artifacts. It was worth the admission fee of $15/per person.
Kathleen Wroten — Google review
The price was a little steep, the museum was pretty dingy and could use a good cleaning from all the cobwebs. The cave was really dark and we almost needed more lights to see. This is not a guided tour. My kids got scared and we turned around I assume about half way. Probably would be more fun with a bigger group but at 15$ an adult, be ready to spend some money.! The rocks are awesome around the property, and peacocks are beautiful too.
KK1618 Buttercup! — Google review
The cave is awesome. The museum is not. It is $15 to go into the cave and museum which I think is too expensive but it was fun to walk through. It is nice and chilly. If you are easily cold wear a jacket. At the end f the cave we all turned off the lights to be in pitch black darkness. The kids all thought that was awesome.
We liked the rock sculptures and peacocks roaming around the grounds but they could really put some effort into making the grounds and museum more inviting and appealing. There is so much potential being missed out on here!
If you or someone in your party has ambulatory issues please skip it. It wasn't difficult but slippery and steep in places...unbalanced. Kids can do it fine.
Tip: bring small flashlights for the kids to hold. They provide the adults big lights and don't want the kids holding them, plus they are pretty heavy. Wear your own headlamps to keep both hands free!
Bathroom facilities are 2 porta potties in the parking lot. No hand washing available!! No diaper changing spots. So plan accordingly. Bring your own drinks and wipes:)
Laura Van Noy — Google review
What a unique gem! It’s not crazy touristy/crowded at all. We were the only ones in the cave and that was such a COOL experience. They give you lights and send you off to explore the cave on your own. The self guided tour of it makes it that much better. We stopped and turned off all our lights at one point and that was crazy. We literally could not see our hands in front of our faces. The museum was very interesting as well. Full of unique and really neat items. Definitely worth a trip! Tickets for both the cave and museum are $12. They let you stay in the cave as long as you’d like. Very cool photo locations as well.

This is a rustic and yet charming little stop. The cave and museum are an odd combination, but interesting. The lava tube is immense in height and gives a glimpse into the regions geology.
The Ketchum Cemetery is a charming and picturesque burial ground with stunning mountain views. It offers a serene and tranquil atmosphere, especially when covered in snow. It's worth adding to your list of must-see places, as it provides a unique opportunity to stand beside the grave of someone whose words continue to resonate with many people today. The cemetery is not only the final resting place for the famous Ernest Hemingway but also holds many other individuals.
Very peaceful place and quiet with beautiful surroundings. The famous Ernest Hemingway is buried here but also so many others. Please be respectful if you visit.

About 45 years ago, I lived for a short time right next to the cemetery. "Olden Day's" as our kids say. I knew Margot and Mariel Hemmingway somewhat as well as Ernest Hemingway's widow due to my bio-dad being a dilettante writer. I was in my last year of high school down in Hailey and truly culture shocked in such a small town. It's kind of nuts I suppose but I spent many hours in that little (then) cemetary since it kind of stood as the only "culture" back then. Knowing that there was a renowned writer close by, not just the farm kids who were sweet but not the big city I was used to. Anyway, the cemetary is historical, the location seems to be much improved since the '70's and easily accessible to the city. Not happy with the "modernization" but, lazy upkeep seems to be the way they like things today. Thank God that they haven't changed the cemeteries around Washington D.C. to follow that trend. Historical headstones and monuments shouldn't be changed for ease of upkeep.

Stumbled on to a fantastic show 'Sightings' here while we were in town for a wedding.
Idaho has the highest number of reported ufo sightings per capita in the U.S. The show featured art from Deb Sokolow, Cable Griffith, the estate of Timothy Wiley, among others, all very compelling and fun.

Unable to enter the museum building itself but can read the information boards outside and peek in through the windows for a glimpse of the wagons. Interesting history of the area
Mona — Google review
The covered collonade outside the building has displays with photos and interesting historical info about the development of the area, especially mining. You can only look at the wagons through the windows, although apparently there's a key that can be checked out from city hall nearby if you really want to see them up close.
We used the free level 2 EV charger several times. The museum has extensive solar panels on the roof, so the charging might have been fully solar powered.

We visited this museum free of charge, and we were impressed by the level of detail on the historical interpretive plaques outside of the museum. Though the interpretation could be modernized a bit, it was on par with other local history museums we have visited recently. Inside of the museum, the Wagon Days merchandise and framed posters from past Wagon Days festivities were a real treat. Though sorry to have missed the Wagon Days parade this year, we hope to come back one day!

Visit Sun Valley offers a range of activities and attractions for visitors. The town is known for its romantic ski resorts, making it an ideal destination for adventure seekers and those looking to relax. The Knob Hill Inn provides a wonderful stay with its beautiful architecture and accommodating staff. The visitor center serves as a great base camp for exploring Ketchum and the surrounding Sun Valley area. Despite the lack of snow during late December, the staff improvised to ensure an enjoyable experience for guests.
There was no snow this year (late December). But that was A-OK. The staff stepped up and improvised and were so very accommodating. The pre-New Year's trip turned out really nice. The photo I attached was taken after the waggon ride (improvised sled ride (no snow)).

The Wood River Museum of History and Culture offers a deep dive into the transformation of Sun Valley from a sheep-ranching community to a renowned ski destination. The museum delves into the silver and lead mining boom that brought settlers to the Wood River Valley in the late 1800s, as well as the town's survival as a livestock center after the decline of silver prices.

We visited Sun Valley from the UK, so lucky to have found this place! Such a cool store, amazing customer service, so many beautiful things, we love it! You must visit if you find yourself in Sun Valley! Wish we had a shop like this in our home town in the UK.

The Vault has beautifully selected pieces that you can't find anywhere else. Linda, has an extensive knowledge of art and furniture and can tell you the exact time and place it came from. The mother-daughter duo of the Vault are hard-working and professional and will be able to help you find exactly what you are looking for in your current or new home. As luxury realtors, the Vault is beautifully staged and you will want to buy the whole staged area to bring home with you. I love going to the Vault to see how they have styled all their pieces, as well as chatting with the ladies of the Vault.
As a professional organizer, I love my partnership with the Vault and being able to consign items for my clients. They are so responsive and easy to work with.
The Vault is a must when coming to Sun Valley!

One of my favourite stores! Amazing products and service and I never leave disappointed! Highly recommend!
The most amazing time!!!! I am a beginner and they made it so easy. The horses were great. Tessa was amazing, she explained everything perfectly. I hope she is there for a long time. See you in Riggins soon lol....

The staff was very friendly, laid back, and informative. They cater to your abilities, whether very advanced or first timer. Their horses are in great shape and know their job. The path is well paved, though very rocky. There are two trails, but the trail I took wasn't on cliff edges, however we traveled and steep inclines and declines. My whole family loved it. Even my father in law who doesn't like to ride!

We had a great trail ride through a creek and across the mountains for an hour. It was a perfect experience and great way to get in touch with horses and nature. The employees were friendly and helpful and is a must do in Ketchum

My husband and I booked a trail ride on our Idaho vacation through Sun Valley Stables. The staff is helpful and friendly. The horses are beautiful and the trail is breathtaking. The trail ride was a perfect start to our vacation. I would highly recommend their services. If we are ever in the Sun Valley area again, we would not hesitate to book.

The ride and the wranglers were great. Had so much fun. My granddaughter, 10 yrs old, had never rode and it had been 30 years since I had. Definitely a great experience. We made a new and wonderful memory for the both of us. Thank you so very much!

I loved this place so much because the staff was so nice. Even though it was only for one hour, it was still really amazing. For the trail you ride up dollar mountain and the views are amazing.
Upscale hotel in a mountain resort offering restaurants & bars, plus golf courses & a spa.
We've been to the lodge before, but we wanted to bring our adult children to experience Sun Valley. Stayed at the Lodge and the experience was just as good as the last time we visited almost 4 years ago. The outdoor pool is awesome as it's heated to 95 degrees! Visited the SPA and pampered ourselves. Rooms were very nicely updated. We will be back for more of the resort and the skiing.

Classy resort at reasonable off-season prices. Valet and greeters at the main doors are a nice touch. We got a room on the first floor above the bowling alley. which is in the basement. It took a couple of days to realize we are hearing sounds from bowling alley thinking it's maid service rolling their carts around constantly. Luckily the bowling alley closes at 10pm or it would be hard to sleep.

I can’t give my favorite place to go less than a 3 no matter what. Our stay is always amazing but this time was a little disappointing. We had reservations at the Inn but they upgraded us to the Lodge as the Inn was closed. We did not see this until the morning, but next to the bed in the corner was something all over the wall and carpet. I don’t know what, as I did not care to inspect. I told the front desk and they sent someone to clean it up while we were out of the room. The next time I went to the desk and spoke to the man behind the reservation counter, (the one I reported the incident to), he seemed rather cold- as if I had done something wrong. He did not say sorry, thank you for letting us know, nothing. It was as if he thought someone in our party were responsible. I do wonder how in the world the cleaning crew could have missed that. It wasn’t small. I blew that off….we’re here to have a relaxing stay after all. We went to the hot tub and it was closed. The pool was colder than normal- when I asked about the pool temp. I was told it was to accommodate pregnant woman. I was told the maintenance person put too much chlorine in the hot tub so they had to wait until it was at safe levels for anyone to use it. It remained closed until our last day there. Our last day there, I saw a maintenance guy working on it so I asked him if we could use it yet. He put some Bromine in and said yes, let the Bromine stir for 5 minutes then we were able to use it. We and several other folks who had been patiently waiting for several days, got in. Then the pool guy came over and said we had to get out. We told him what the maintenance guy said and he said it did not matter, until he heard from the maintenance guy himself, the hot tub was closed. All parties in the hot tub stayed in so the pool guy started to drain the hot tub and boy did it drain quickly. My question (and everyone else’s) was why didn’t they drain it and fill it back up when this first happened??? Anyway- after that, the hot tub was cold the rest of the time we were there. So no hot tub for us. Sadly, not the best stay we have experienced. We like to go in November because there aren’t any crowds. We won’t be going back to SV in November any time soon.
One last weird thing that I told the front desk about. I used the stairwell to go between floors to get ice. There was silverware in a large pile next to the door on the floor, in the stairwell. Just a little weird, but nothing that would impact our stay- though I did wonder if that could have been a nefarious act by an employee.

Absolutely love this ski resort.
Excellent staff. In my 50+ years of skiing I have never experienced such friendly, kind service. Everywhere I turned when I asked a question or I was trying to find where I was going I was met with friendly knowlwdgable people.
The food at the dining halls was very good Prices were reasonable not too crazy.
This is a beautiful resort and a gorgeous setting. The runs are very nice, and it was great to be at a place where I didn't have to wait a long time in line. Such a great thing considering you pay $200 a day to ski. Many of the runs that need to be groomed or groomed, as it had just stormed the night before
Can't wait to come back!

Don't forget to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴏʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ when booking your place. This web site will compare thousands of booking web sites and usually will have prices much cheaper than others! Thank me later! This resort is the best rated in this area. I've been coming here for a very long time. If you stay for a few days you for sure won't be let down.
The ki g room was wonderful. This was off-season and we loved every aspect. Reserve your pool time. The Konditorei restaurant was great.

Beautiful little village with great spots to eat! Konditorei is our top pick for a great breakfast or brunch. Hotel is self is very nice with an ice skating rink right outside in the back. Love the ducks and swans in the front. The downside to staying at this resort for skiing is if you are looking for easy to the slopes you will not find that here. Unless you are skiing dollar mountain for beginners. To the actual big mountain you need to take a shuttle and a bus to get you to the slopes. So be prepared. But overall a very nice resort.

In 40+ years of booking vacation homes I have never had an experience like this. I booked a house last October in person from the manager at the resort and received my confirmation They have called me twice now recently to tell me that the “rate has changed” from $1080 per night to $2,500 per night. What? No mention was ever made that the rate I was quoted was subjected to change. I have the printout from when I booked and also the booking email. They both show the confirmation number, the rate and the deposit paid. Zero mention anywhere that the rate isn’t final. I am so confused and have no idea why they are doing this. The worst part is, this is a trip to the jazz festival for my elderly mother that lost her husband last year and my autistic son that plays the saxophone. I’ve already spend $1,800 on nonrefundable tickets. If this gets cancelled it will break their hearts. This is hands down the worst experience I have ever had with a business. And in my current circumstances it will be rubbing salt into wounds.

I guess I am torn between a only a good review and a great one. The hotel is very nice and staff members have all been friendly. It was our 20th wedding anniversary so I believe we got upgraded to a nicer room. We had a balcony view of the ski resort (no snow) and pool area. I think my gripe is the maintenance of the area. I know it’s an old hotel but the hot tub had missing grout in the tiles. The pool was not cleaned (tons of dead bugs, leaves, etc. all over). The elevator ride is rough. The tub is great. It’s one of those that is deep and water pressure is great too. If I were the designer I wouldn’t have put the shower turn on valve right under the shower head. That can be some very cold water at first. Although we had a great balcony view some of the pavers were either cracked or had chunks missing from them.

Fabulous ladies' getaway! Luxury and so beautiful, with wonderful, friendly staff. Kudos to Maurine at the spa, she gave me the most incredible facial, best I have ever received. The spa shower experience was incredible. Floating in the swimming pool, surrounded snow covered mountains was fabulous. Food (breakfast and dinner)in Gretchens' was perfect and the service was superb. We cannot wait to come back! Thank you!

Outstanding! The fairly recent remodel of the lodge has kept the wonderful feel of the history of this beautiful place at the same time adding to its five-star appeal.
The wonderful diversity of the people working here is the base of Sun Valley Resort's world-class service.

Rooms were great, service was excellent and who could complain about the location. Front desk accounting was absolutely terrible! While my employer's card was used to confirm the reservation and was to have been utilized to pay for the room, the front desk took my personal card, supposedly only to be used for "incidentals" (there were none), and charged my personal card for 1 night of the stay. The employee that took my personal card upon check in had told me that absolutely would NOT happen, yet it did anyway. The hotel manager, just this morning, told me it was company policy to charge the first night's stay for any guest, to their personal card presented for incidentals, this regardless of how the reservation/payment arrangements were to be made. My guess is that the Sun Valley Lodge is running some kind of scam directed to the attendees of larger business conferences such as the one I attended with the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce.
Kent Goldthorpe — Google review
Charming. Comfortable beds. Great bathroom suite. Pool and hot tub set up was fun and relaxing. I visited in March for a conference when there was still snow but just after ski season ended so it was not crowded. Little shops on site are fun but expensive. There’s a nice cafe w delicious pastries and good coffee. Great place to attend a professional conference. I imagine it’s super convenient to ski all day and return to the lodge which is close to the ski resort.

I stayed at the Sun Valley Lodge for a recent business trip. I was scheduled to stay in Room 123. I checked in, went to my room, dropped off my luggage, and went out to dinner. Upon my return, I went into my bathroom and saw the Lodge gave me a complimentary visitor! Thanks Sun Valley for giving me a free support animal for the visit.
Bobby Cuoio — Google review
The main living area, fireplace, master bedroom and kitchen are very beautiful and comfortable but the second bedroom 🛌 is better for children having only two single beds in a small room.
The kitchen is new and stocked with pans and plates etc. Everything was clean.
The buildings are separated and many of the rooms enter directly to the outside which would be nicer in the summer than in the winter. Fortunately, our room had a small hallway that was heated 😀
I stayed in the small bedroom and it was cold and I could not get the thermostat to change the temperature.
The name of the resort implies that it is at Sun valley ski resort , something I should have double checked, but it is on the other side of town.
There is more to the resort that I didn’t have time to explore.
Over all, this would be a nice room for a small family.
I feel that the value is low, considering the cost and the distance from the resort.
Also, I’m not so sure if the mechanical issue was a problem or Programmed
Overall, I would not discourage anyone from going there since it is a beautiful location.

Historical Sun Valley feel. Great food and drinks amid comfy coutches and chairs, amid fireplaces, if you want to, or a traditional dining area. Very nice hot tub and heated pool. Gym, sauna, and ice skating rink round out the resort. Great staff everywhere and shopping and other dining available at a village 300 feet from resort.

Just to say Sun Valley Resort it needs no more. It is a high end destination year round. Great for travelers either family, friends, couples or singles. Outdoor activities all around the area. This makes Sun Valley the jewel of Idaho.

I'm writing this review to express my concern over the safety measures at Sun Valley Resort. I've seen staff members behaving recklessly on the slopes, posing a risk to others. This isn't something you'd expect from a resort that prides itself on being a family-friendly destination. Moreover, the customer service in addressing these issues is severely lacking. Attempts to discuss my concerns were met with indifference.
The Opera House is a charming venue from the 1930s that presents both movies and live performances, set in a spacious, rustic interior reminiscent of a barn. A must-visit attraction for those exploring Sun Valley or Ketchum in Idaho, this historical establishment offers diverse entertainment options. While the seating retains its vintage charm without recliners, the acoustics are excellent, providing an enjoyable experience.
We love the clear view you get from anywhere in the theater. Even from the front row. The place has a great old time vibe we love too! If only modern day theaters could bring back the charm of The Sun Valley Opera House we could all take a journey back to the good old days!! Enjoy

We love the Opera House. It's quaint, cozy and simply neat. The lighting inside the building is beautiful and the trusses are spectacular. The snack bar is small and has a good selection for the kids and a glass of wine for me. There is a water fountain inside the theater for drinks. The whole experience is wonderful.
Amanda Wright — Google review
If you're visiting Sun Valley or Ketchum Idaho this is one place that you should try and visit. Check out a movie or look online to see if there is any live entertainment because this is a venue that is used for lots of different things. The seats are still old-fashioned and the building itself is historical so you won't find reclining seats but the Acoustics are very good and the building is definitely worth seeing. During festivals this is usually one of the venues that is most quaint and cozy and enjoyable.
BanJo — Google review
Fun little theater in Sun Valley. Nice that they have a small beer and wine selection. It would be fun if they did a bit more in the food selection as well, would give it more of a "dinner and a movie" feel, but overall, a great place to spend an evening.

I have enjoy many of the events of The Sun Valley Opera, and try to contribute yearly to the organization! The recent presentation of British Rock Concert was totally out of Character for The Sun Valley Opera. The concert was boring and loud, causing us to leave early. If this is the direction of The Sun Valley Opera I have NO interest in attending or contributing.

It is so beautiful at this garden! We snuck in early in the morning when there was nobody else there. we have been to the interpretive center before and light all of the things that you could learn inside. But there's nothing better than wandering around all of the flowers early in the morning when nobody else is there smelling things and taking pictures and really enjoying it.so if you get there early in the morning and you see that the gate is closed just open up the gate make sure you close it behind yourself and wander around in all the beauty.

It’s beautiful with varied gardens. Some areas were naturalized and others were sculpted. They had small natural looking streams flowing through many areas. One garden was a peaceful serenity garden. They have a large colorful Buddhist prayer wheel in a pavillon decorated with prayer flags.
It was free but they request a small $5 donation.
The garden is only a couple short blocks off the Wood River Trail. They have bike racks.

Garden was small but pretty. They have one of the only two prayer wheels blessed by the Delai Lama after 9/11. Worth the stop. There is also fee to enter the gift store though I can not remember what it was. There are a few benches to sit and rest on and a relaxing water feature that runs mostly along the perimeter.

The Sawtooth Botanical Garden has great youth and adult programming. It is also a beautiful place to host an event, or connect to your spirituality at the Garden of Infinite Compassion which hosts one of two prayer wheels in the United States that has been blessed by the Dalai Lama. It also features a large sandbox with plenty of toys for young children to play with. A great place to get connected back with dirt and nature.

Jeff was awesome and the experience was well worth it! If you are looking at the long range rifle package he is the guy to see. I booked a two-hour private lesson with a variety handguns, and it was worth every penny! Jeff is a fantastic teacher, like getting a lesson from your dad, except that he's much nicer and more professional than your dad would be. I hope I'll have time to return for additional training, especially an introduction to rifles!
Emily Riley — Google review
Very thorough 1-on-1 instruction of long range shooting fundamentals. Prepared with the necessary tools, Jeff assisted with proper scope adjustment for optimal eye relief before sending rounds down range. From there, he explained proper body-to-rifle alignment, hand/posture mechanics, and breathing techniques.
After zeroing at 100yrds, we continued drills to 300, 550, and finally to 750 yards. This was a personal first shooting past 250 yards and tremendously rewarding. Prepared with top-grade spotting scope and Kestrel meter, Jeff gave very clear target information allowing me to focus intently on targets through my scope. This provided the ideal environment for learning a reasonably complex task, especially with 10-20mph crosswinds.
Thanks again, Jeff for the excellent instruction and enabling a personal shooting sports milestone.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff for a Fun Shoot this summer, where he guided me through the use of multiple cool weapons such as the AK47, AR15, and Colt 45 Cattleman’s Revolver. It was not only a great time but I also learned a ton from Jeff about the weapons themselves and optimal procedure for using each one. Great location too. Highly recommend this experience to anyone!

Took a class from Jeff while on vacation and he did an excellent job. He does NOT have a cookie cutter class for everybody and it is customized to the needs of the people he is training. Our family of 4 booked a "Fun Shoot" package with Jeff the owner. Only one person in our group had any firearm experience. We had a great time shooting 22's then moving to larger caliber guns. Very good instruction, very safe and a fantastic range. This business operates out of The Hurting Center located in North Hailey. We booked a day in advance and we all agreed this was the highlight of our visiy to Sun Valley. Thanks Jeff for a super fun time!

Took the whole family over to have a team pistol class with Jeff. Can't recommend him enough. In under an hour, Jeff had my sister (previously not a gun fan) drilling 9/10 on the plate racks at 15 yards. We all ended up going back three times, with my brother and I learning some tactical & wounded wing drills. We will for sure be going back during the ski season.
Landmark spot boasts tours in underground lava caves with ice formations, plus a museum & gift shop.
Wow…just, wow! First time seeing a structure like this. And the fact that it’s not man made makes it even more spectacular! It was certainly chilly once you descend into the cave, make sure to bring a jacket, but absolutely worth it! The tour guide was wonderful, knew so much history about the cave and surrounding area. We enjoyed visiting the museum on site. After the tour we partook in a couple of activities. This included smashing geodes and using the sluice. Low key and fun. Recommend for families!

Unique experience . This is privately owned but still worth the trip.
there is a little bit of a hike over lava rock to the opening, Inside temperature when I visited was about 24 degrees (F). Our guide was named Mya. She did a great job and was well informed. Part way through the tour, she sang a song for us to illustrate the acoustics in the cave, She did a great job!

They have guided tours on the hour, with the last tour of the day at 4pm. The tour takes 45 minutes. The tour guide is informative and friendly and willing to answer questions. The museum is small and has some nice artifacts on display. This Ice Cave is a phenomena and is said to be one of two known ice caves. It has been restored to its original condition, which was to naturally form and keep ice inside of it. There is an amazing natural arch inside and it is like a big cavern inside. They have installed wooden boardwalks to make it easier to navigate walking inside. It is about 28 degrees inside the cave and there is ice year round. There is a gift shop too.

Such a fun stop on our adventures today! Right off the highway so very convenient. Price was a little high in my opinion but oh well. The gift shop was fun and the kids loved everything. Walking down the cave is kind of hard with "little" kids. My 4 year old was struggling and we had a large group so we kind of felt rushed. The rails in the cave seem alittle dangerous for little ones. I feel like they need to add another piece of wood to make sure no one falls off (little kids).. Feeling rushed and with kids is kind of hard. I would recommend still and really had a good time. It was COLD but I loved it. If you're frozen easily then bring a jacket.

Oh this has been on my bucket list for awhile. Finally made it there. I wasn't disappointed it was amazing to see it all to take in what was really quite amazing. The history wow I am in awe of the terrain down there but now I have a way better understanding of it all. I was all alone on my tour which I think was pretty fun. The girl that did my tour was very knowledgeable I appreciated her so much she was fun funny and I loved it. It was a special week for me because I had just met my sister for the first time and we went together but she couldn't do the tour. All in all I had fun so glad I went. Ty ice cave people

Our tour guide, Abby, was so sweet and did such a great job teaching us new facts about the Shoshone Ice Cave, the people who lived there and the different layers of lava at the cave entrance! The gift shop and museum is really nice too! Definitely worth the trip especially for only $12! The walk is as good as going down into a cave can be so people with bad knees might have some trouble and need to consider that before making the trip. Definitely bring a light jacket! 10/10 guys! Thank you!

Cool geological feature with interesting history. Cool temps year round in the cave - a light jacket is advisable . Tour guides were friendly and on script but willing to answer questions. Steps a little unstable. The cave is not wheelchair accessible. Portable outhouses in the parking lot. Nice little gift shop with drinks and ice cream. Worth the drive.

Kinda cool place. Don't expect to learn much about why the cave is cold or any real history about the area or native Americans.
The ice cave itself is 'cool' but it's an hour long tour that should take about 20 minutes in total. I'd suggest visiting the other cave with the museum that was closer to Shoshone.

Ice spot to visit while in the area. Our tour guide was nice and knowledgeable.
A little dark inside (perhaps a few more strategically placed LEDs)...
Also, they should let visitors know to reconsider their visit if they intend to go spelunking at Craters of the Moon -

Beautiful park! Peaceful and quiet with surprise wildlife sightings. Can’t get much better than that! Plus being right alongside the river is a huge plus! Unfortunately, due to high water levels, we were unable to see the entire trail from temporary closure, but that couldn’t be prevented. Still a great experience and I hope to come back! Very cool place to visit. Lots of information and history. Free entrance and free guide books to explore Idaho as well. The staff Is very friendly give us some information to explore in this area, and the old miner.

Classic small town museum. Worth the visit, especially if you enjoy the old school family vacation attractions.

The museum host is super knowledgeable and they have a fun scavenger hunt for kids. It has a variety of items to look at and learn about. Come stop by for fun and a great history experience in the making.

Genuine history of the local area with a granddaughter of a historical family featured attending at the same time as us. They accept donations but don't charge a fee. They volunteered that our dog could come in on a leash, which we did. Volunteers were super nice and answered all of our questions.

Great collection of memorabilia...
Unfortunately if you were looking for information on specific families you had to ask the staff. 5-stars🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 to the person behind the desk. She and computer found all sorts of information.

Great place to spend some time. If you're into small town history, you could spend more time here than you planned on.
Worth taking an afternoon to explore. The river carves out a uneque canyon from the lava flows. Leaving beautifully sculpted rocks. Wear good shooes as the river bed is uneaven and can be very slippery. Their is a small parkimg aria you can access the canyon from, parking their is free.

One of a kind place. My kids absolutely loved this place. Took a little effort to hike it fyi as you have to pull yourself up parts to continue hiking. Very fun. I made a YouTube video of interested. Shows a few spots to navigate through.

Such a fun place to come. I bring my little kids, some places are hard to climb over rocks but it’s always an adventure. I’ve never seen the canal with water but would love to one day.!

It’s magical! I felt like I was stepping into another universe. This place is only accessible November-March. The water is flowing after these dates and the canyon is not accessible. It’s easy to find and not a complex little hike. I’ve included the signed at the stop to best explain the formations. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Just went and the river is raging. No access. Picnic area nearby. Guess it's good for a quick stop and to stretch your legs.

Absolutely beautiful little canyon. The way the water has shaped the rocks over the years is breath taking. The whole family had a blast. Can't wait to go back and explore some more.

The better access point to the Black Magic Canyon is at the old dam.

Roads are pretty good but the last few miles are on dirt road. Park right at the dam. Bring good shoes and gloves, points of the canyon do require scrambling. Great place to poke around in the fall.

Such a beautiful place that you don't even know about or see until you get there. It is only accessible in Winter and just watch out for snakes. We didn't see any on our trip but we still kept an eye out for them.

I'll never travel to Arco without this trip planner again
We had so much fun sightseeing and driving through the valley! Highly recommend the slingshots they have available to rent! Ryan was great to work with!

New Inventory is arriving and I wanted to try out a new Slingshot!!! This place is fantastic!!! Ryan is very knowledgeable on the available riding areas, which are endless! Equipment is new every year. I would recommend the trip to boulder!!!

Ryan, you for sure rent FUN and the UTVs are free :). It was so easy to book, and our group peppered you with questions for a few days leading up to our rental. You were so helpful and your customer service is 10 star (too bad we can only give you 5 stars!). Many of our group are life-long locals and had never had a chance to explore the fun trails and landscape east of Bellevue. Thank you for your positivity and super business you bring to the Wood River Valley. Can't wait to go again next year! (TIP for renters: Make sure you take a snapshot of the map in the office with your phone - even though you have the GPS on the UTV, the hard map helps guide overall location)

The views were incredible, and everyone there was very friendly! If you’re going to spend money on some adventure in Idaho this is what you should spend it on. We went out for 2 hours and just did the one trail that he recommended and WOW it was STUNNING. They provide you with coolers, so we brought our lunch up and had it at the summit and it was such a beautiful place to eat. We were the only ones there.

We had a blast renting side by sides from Ryan. He gave us detailed info on all the trails in the area and set us up for a great adventure! I’ll definitely be coming back for more fun!

Wow! I cannot say enough good things about David and his dad Ryan. The machines are brand new, and they are more than helpful. They literally had everything we needed, coolers, bungees for the coolers, helmets, goggles, you name it, they had it. They positive attitude really sold the whole experience though. And the trails… the TRAILS! Unbelievable views and hundreds of miles of trails accessible right out their back door. If you are even remotely contemplating doing a rental, this is the place to do it!!

We are from Houston. We came to Sun Valley for down time literally a few Days after Harvey almost destroyed our home. We wanted FUN! Ryan is by far, the BEST guy you will find around town. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area , and gives you a map. I can not say enough! If you are looking for a great time, give him a call. He is dedicated to your enjoyment, without a doubt!!!!! We will be back. for sure!!!

My girlfriend and I rented from Ryan last week, you can tell he just loves helping people have a good time.
The trails were great too, there's miles of easy trials for people just learning and apparently some more.. "fun" options as well. The rigs have a GPS and Ryan goes over maps with you beforehand and gives you copies, so you always know where you are and where you're going.
Fantastic way to see the mountains out there, can't reccomend enough.
My husband, family and I have fished with David for years!! We so enjoy our time when we go out on the water with him, the lunch he provides is always delicious and he is always entertaining! He is super knowledgeable and always explains everything super well! Highly, Highly recommend fishing with David if you want a real taste of Idaho fly fishing and catching some beautiful rainbow trout and many other types of trout etc! :)

Dave GLASSCOCK and Idaho Angling Services is the real deal. Dave is the consummate angler and guide.
He is a relentless hunter of quality trout and brings all of the art and science of angling to his guiding and teaching. I learn from him everyday and he always finds fish and matches their current diet !

I have fished with Dave Glasscock since 1989. He is a world class fly fishing guide. I highly recommend him if you’re interested in fishing Silver Creek or the Big Lost River in southern Idaho.
Rich Brown — Google review
I spent a day with Dave hunting large rainbows on the lost river. The conditions were not ideal because of really high water but the scenery and weather was spectacular. And the fishing! He put me on several large rainbows in the 18 inch range. I caught three or four and lost another four or five that either broke off or unhooked themselves. And then there was the monster: it had to be at least 20 inches and ran with my line until it broke off the 3X tippet. do yourself a favor and schedule a trip with David!

Been fishing with David for years.
Always an amazing experience!
David is the man!!
The old 1910's and 1960's mine shafts and quarries here are amazing! A great place to get a good education on how early gold and copper mining worked. You can NOT take trucks or vehicles over 50" in most places on the hill side, so it's Horseback, Side by Side and ATV accessible in most places.
Jonathan Lindberg (BreededSuperior) — Google review
Amazing place to explore! The old buildings are really cool and so are the mineshaft entrances! It's a great place to have a picnic and enjoy the views.
Ethan Seely — Google review
The history here is so cool!
The road is dirt and can be a bit rocky in places but it’s well worth the drive.
A portion of the road is closed above the transfer station. It’s private property.
I was told that they are opening up the mining again soon.
I also read that there’s a chance in the future that the road to the old mines might close permanently so get there as soon as you can.

Out of all the campgrounds I've stayed at, including other KOAs, this is by far my favorite! The park is very well maintained, clean bathrooms. The staff are amazing people that spoil their guests! Waffles & coffee in the morning, ice cream in the evening, a pool to cool off, plenty of shade. We enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra day. I highly recommend this park!!

First experience ever at a KOA. Staff was amazing and very accommodating. Kid friendly. Pet friendly. Ice cream socials at 5 p.m. and waffles at 9 a.m. We came for the weekend to visit Craters of the Moon and camped here. 20 minute drive from craters of the moon.
Timothy Clark — Google review
I can laugh now, but as we pulled in - I wanted to turn around and leave :) Not because of anything other than - I had no idea that were truly here only due to the Craters of the Moon.
When booking, I thought there would be more to do in the area - but if you're coming here, you are either here for a Family Reunion, or to see Craters of the Moon. That is what's on the map for any traveler passing through.
Staff was insanely kind. Super nice. We pulled in and ran into an issue with hookups (provided, but they were at the end of the campsite vs. in the middle and our hoses wouldn't reach), they were able to help us immediately (Along with the kind gentleman who's site we temporarily stole).
The campground offers an ice cream social daily. Good cause, good ice cream and dirt cheap. Do it. They also offer waffles (or was it pancakes?) on the weekend. They were super tasty and fit the kids requests!
Playground was sub-par. Perfect if you've got really little kids (2-4 y/o). Pool was okay, nothing special - but it was water and our kids also loved it.

Great experience here. Super helpful and friendly staff, clean grounds and buildings. You can tell they take pride in their establishment. We really enjoyed the pool, playground, ice cream social and waffles in the morning. Very happy with everything here, would stay again and recommend to friends and family.

Alan is very nice and accommodating! As a solo female traveler (coming from Kentucky) I am terrible at planning ahead as to which KOA I happen to stay at that night. I usually just pick whichever is closest to me. BUT I am very pleased and honored to have met Alan! It just so happens that it was going to be a cold night as I am car camping with my pets out of my SUV. Alan said “No it’s too cold for you out there.” He upgraded me without any additional cost to a kabin site; it is astonishing to see this kind of hospitality without expecting anything in return. If you so happen to be in the area, Barbara and Alan do an amazing job of maintaining the property as well as being amazing hosts!

if you drive an Electric vehicle don't bother coming here, they had to make an exception for us to stay one night and use the RV sites with 50AMP circuit. Never had problems charging at any other camp site with hookup. They said it is because charging the car will trip the breaker (which we did not for that 1 night) - camp site had lots of open space but was put at the end of RV site with no protection and had to stake down our tent due to thunderstorm.

Friendly owners and staff. Newly remodeled and kept clean and fresh, I recommend this location for your next KOA camping experience. They have cute cabins for rent reasonably priced, an extensive selection of items to shop for in their store and lots if fun things to do while staying there.

I have stayed here twice visiting Craters of the Moon and IEL Museum EBR-1. RV sites are level grass and gravel with good hookups. WiFi was a bit spotty but there was good cell reception. I enjoyed the morning waffle. Very helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Was a good spot to stop for a night! Didn’t have any issues with noise complaints like some reviews previously posted. Their quiet hours are from 10pm-8am. Customer service was great! Was able to go swimming and use their laundry services with a breeze. Highly recommend!
Also if you are needing to do laundry, I highly suggest going to this location and not the supposed laundromat that’s a few miles away. They have ice cream social which is great for those with kids and it’s only a $1. They also have free breakfast (big and thick waffles) in the mornings. They also have hot foods that you can order and have it delivered to your site!
Our experience was great— we are pretty easy going people from Oklahoma.

Very disappointed. I specifically chose this RV park so the kids could swim. The pool is green and freezing cold. I’m not sure when the pictures were taken but the park does not look like this now. no grass, the dog park is weeds. The bathroom showers are small.. the woman’s bathroom one has no hot water and one is clogged so that leaves 1 shower. The good thing is The staff is very helpful and nice. They also have waffles and ice cream!

Not up to the usual standards we find at a KOA. Really nice people working there. Pool small but refreshing. No lawn really, mostly weeds. Cute ice cream social almost every night. Didn't try the Cafe. Close to "The Pickle Place" Cafe which was awesome! About 40 minutes from Craters of the Moon park. Probably wouldn't stay here again. Grounds need to be upgraded.

I stayed in a cabin Mid June and it was exactly what I needed. I wasn't expecting to see the Tetons from the cabin but I was pleasantly surprised when I could. Highly recommend this KOA. Staff was exceptional. Cafe food was also great.

Well I am done with KOA. Really nice people working there but pool looked like a green soup and we stopped there for the pool so the kids can have a little swim. Also, the campground (and the city) was under a boil water advisory, so not their fault but no water avail there to buy, had to go to the grocery and nothing is mentioned on the web site to be aware before you get there. No firewood available as well. Only good point, it's close to Craters of the Moon park and we decided to ditch the KOA to stay at Craters of the Moon campground instead ($15). At least, we had water there!

Excellent place! We stayed two nights in a tent with no issues. Bathrooms, showers and laundry room were clean. You can tell they cleaned them everyday. Everyone working there was friendly and the waffle chef (free waffles 9am) was humbling. Make sure you prepare for quick changing weather; it was 75 and calm then about 10 mins thunderstorms, 65 and winds maybe about 25 mph. And they have an ice cream social at 5. Best KOA yet!
