A very well maintained lighthouse be it the entrance or the upper deck all neat and clean. The staff also polite and helpful.

The visuals from the top of the light house is priceless and very attractive. The best time to go is in the evening. Good for friends and couples. If you go along with kids, even though it's good you have to be very careful. You can see overall view of Fort also.

The famous Thangassery Lighthouse, which can be seen rising up majestically above the coconut palms. The cylindrical lighthouse tower is painted in catchy red and white oblique bands.
Visitors can enjoy the glorious sun setting over the Arabian Sea as they drive down on the Lighthouse road. The Thangassery beach Lighthouse was built about 120 years ago to guide fishermen and sailors along the reef-riddled coastal waters. Its beacon can be seen up to 20km out at sea.
Visitors are allowed to climb to the top of the 140feet high Thangassery lighthouse tower.
A lift is available up to 3/4 of the tower and rest of the tower is reachable with narrow and steep steps. The spectacular 360 degrees panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and splendor of the backwaters and Kollam city is a treat to the eyes.

Entry time: 10 am to 6 pm
Entry fees: Rs. 20 for adults. Rs. 10 for children. Extra fees for mobile and camera photography.
We parked outside as we did not see any dedicated parking space.
You can reach the top of the lighthouse either by climbing stairs or taking the lift. Usually you'll have to wait 5-10 min in a queue to get into the lift.
At the top, you get an exhilarating view of the coastline, the harbour and the distant sea. You feel at peace, gazing at waves crashing on the shoreline, and the cool sea breeze brushing against your face, before the watchman shoos you and tells you to keep moving.

Thangassery light house is a wonderful place to spend during evening time. The ticket fair is 20 rupees per head for adults and 10 rs per head for kids. Monday holiday.
I went during evening time and had a very good experience. Everyone is allowed to stay on the top of the lighthouse for 10-15 minutes (may vary according to the crowd during your day of visit).
On the top of the lighthouse, the view is a must experience one. The view facing the sea is wonderful.
There is a small kids park at the feet of the lighthouse.
In front of the lighthouse there is a 2 km pathway through the sea. The ticket fair is 10-20 per head. The pathway is a very photogenic place.
If possible add Thangassery lighthouse to your travel plan in kollam.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Lighthouse, and I must say it was a truly unforgettable experience. Nestled along the breathtaking coastline, this lighthouse offers a unique combination of beauty and thrill that is hard to find elsewhere. Here's my review of the Lighthouse:
First and foremost, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Lighthouse had a lift facility. This made the journey to the top much more accessible and convenient for visitors of all ages and physical abilities. The presence of a lift ensures that even those who may struggle with climbing stairs can still enjoy the panoramic views from the lighthouse.
I highly recommend visiting the Lighthouse during the evening hours. Not only does it provide a stunning backdrop for capturing memorable photos, but it also offers a respite from the scorching daytime heat. The cooler weather adds to the overall pleasant experience, allowing visitors to explore the lighthouse comfortably.
While the Lighthouse's top observation area may have limited space, this in no way diminishes the awe-inspiring view that awaits you. As you ascend to the summit, the anticipation builds, and once you reach the top, you're greeted by sweeping vistas of the surrounding coastline. The unobstructed views of the shimmering sea and the rugged cliffs are simply breathtaking, making the climb well worth the effort.
However, I must warn you that climbing the Lighthouse can be a somewhat intimidating experience. The narrow staircases and steep steps add an element of excitement and adventure, but they may also evoke a sense of fear, especially for those with a fear of heights. If you're up for a thrilling challenge, climbing the Lighthouse will surely get your heart racing.
Overall, my visit to the Lighthouse was a delightful and unforgettable experience. The combination of the lift facility, the cool evening weather, and the awe-inspiring views made it a must-visit attraction. Whether you're seeking a scenic adventure or simply want to soak in the beauty of the coastline, the Lighthouse offers an enchanting experience that will leave you in awe.
I highly recommend visiting the Lighthouse, but do remember to check the operating hours and plan your visit accordingly. Enjoy the beautiful vistas and embrace the thrill of climbing to the top

Tangasseri Lighthouse or Thangassery Lighthouse is situated at Tangasseri in Kollam city of the Indian state of Kerala.
They charge(cost) around ₹10/person for going to light house and it opens from 10Am to 5PM.
The coastal views for the top of light house are amazing you should try once.
Also from the seaside you can watch the sunset extremely pleasing.
You can also see the waves crashing at the rocks nearby at the seashore.
You can go there from Kollam Railway station by an auto from there. As such no bus service directly to that place.
There is also a small park there.

Thangassery Light House is a must-visit attraction in Kollam, Kerala. The lighthouse is a signature of Thangassery and offers a breathtaking view of the breakwater and small fishing harbor. The fishing boats here are very colorful and so are the houses we see from here. There is a lift that takes you most of the way up, but if you don’t need one, I would recommend walking up the steps and spending time at the windows. The lighthouse is well-maintained and the old equipment is well-preserved and taken care of.

Must visit spot at Kollam. This lighthouse is just 3 km away from Kollam railway station. The lighthouse is equipped with lift which will take you upto some height. The remaining stairs are very steep, not recommended for aged people. View from the top is amazing. There is a play area for kids nearby. Both lighthouse and kids play area closes at 6:00 PM. Modest facility housing live adult elephants & calves, plus a wildlife museum & gift shop.
The great place which depicts the history and the classification of elephants.
They also provide relaxing ashoka forest where we can sit and relax.
Also there is a small park which will surely be a time spender for the little ones.
Overall it's a park with 🐘's and elephant museum 😊

If you don't have any expectations on this place, you won't be disappointed. There is an entry fee for adults and kids. All together there are only 6-7elephants to see. No opportunity to feed them or touch them or for elephant safari. You can watch them chained in their shelter from a distance. The museum which displays weapons used for catching wild elephants and fossils are quite interesting to see, but then it is a tiny room. There is a store in the site where you can buy artifacts , native medicines, etc. Also, there is a coffee shop inside. Another attraction in the campus is a small children's park with some rides for kids.

Great place to see elephants up close and live. A baby elephant (probably newly added) was the center of attraction. Elephants of different age, size and gender were present.
The museum and art gallery also made the visit worthwhile. Wish they offered elephant rides as well... but alas!
There's a children's park which was like a treat for the kids.
Canteen, Toilet & Parking was available.

Not worth for 50rs plus 30rs parking fee. Need some improvements.
Enhance Visitor Experience: Consider ways to improve the overall visitor experience at the Konni elephant cage. This could include providing educational information about elephants, their habitat, and conservation efforts. Interactive exhibits, guided tours, or audio guides could also enhance the experience for visitors.
Improve Viewing Opportunities: Explore options to improve viewing opportunities for visitors while ensuring the safety and well-being of the elephants. This could involve redesigning the layout of the cage or providing elevated viewing platforms for better visibility.
Address Pricing Concerns: Review the pricing structure to ensure that it aligns with the value offered to visitors. Consider offering discounted rates for local residents or families, as well as package deals that include parking fees.
Engage with Visitors: Seek feedback from visitors about their experiences and suggestions for improvement. Conduct surveys or focus groups to gather insights and identify areas for enhancement.
Promote Transparency: Be transparent about any limitations or restrictions regarding access to the elephants. Clearly communicate expectations to visitors before they purchase tickets to manage their expectations effectively.
Invest in Infrastructure: Allocate resources to invest in infrastructure improvements, such as better signage, seating areas, and amenities for visitors. This can contribute to a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for visitors.
Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work collaboratively with local authorities, wildlife experts, and tourism stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement and implement sustainable solutions that benefit both visitors and elephants.
By taking proactive steps to address these concerns and implement improvements, the Konni elephant cage can enhance its attractiveness as a tourist destination and provide a memorable experience for visitors while promoting responsible tourism practice.

If you are an animal lover and a great fan of elephants then it is a must visit place. They were kept in enclosures for tourist safety and were never harmed. It is great initiative to protect these animals from hunters and poachers. There is a museum inside the reserve. Good for children to learn about these animals and respect them.

The museum & art gallery is nice!
Seeing the majestic elephants up close is a good experience too but I feel they're better off in their natural habitat... noticed a few elephants exhibiting stereotypical behaviour...which made me feel they're stressed and not comfortable...some may take the swaying & head bobbing as them enjoying but it's actually a classic sign of stress... hopefully one day we might not have to keep animals locked up & let them be in their natural habitat...

We get a good knowledge about elephants and it's life habits.
We can see some elephants over there , also there is a museum and also a children's park.
An art museum is also there.
After Renovation of Museum there is a lot of improvement. The centre now stands out to an international level. Please spare 2-3 hrs minimum for an enjoyable visit. Museum is world standard and just like visiting any museum abroad. Museum gives you a lot of information about elephants which is highly informative especially to kids.
Elephants are also looked after nicely. There is a new Elephant arts gallery which displays some of the outstanding elephant arts works , which includes life size models, pictures, craft works etc.
There is small area which displays medicinal plants & it is worth visiting.
Childrens play area is also good but needs some upgradation.
Parking lot is there for all type of vehicles.
Plenty of spaces.

It is a good place to visit with family and kids, entry fees for Adults INR 50 and for kids 20, car parking fee also to be paid while taking the ticket. At present there are 6 elephants available including a baby. We can spend a maximum of one hour and kids can be involved in small activities in the park. More activities to be included for the kids otherwise they will get bored. The elephant gallery, 3D theatre and museum are another area to cover in this time. The AV room is one of the different areas where we can feel the real forest atmosphere. For taking a break a snack bar with a coffee shop is available. Staff are very cooperative and manage the customers. Washrooms for men's and women's available and it's maintained well. Also they are providing services for eco tourism and need to book in advance.

Good place to visit with family and see the elephants up close. However I was a little disappointed to see just 5 elephants and a baby elephant and in tight spaces. The adult animals were chained. A bigger and better habitat would be less cruel for them. You can't touch the creatures and there aren't any elephant rides since the pandemic.
The museums were tiny but interesting & informative.
Children's park needs some upgrade. The garden and flora around the park is beautiful. Overall tour of the place would take about an hour. The entire park is small but you could picnic in the garden to make the best use of your drive.
The adult entry ticket costs Rs.50, for a child it's Rs.20 and the car parking cost was Rs.30. They could sell some souvenirs, T-shirts and other merchandise to make money, add more attractions and expand the space.

Don't get expectations too high. Good place to get kids acquainted with elephants which is not so common these days. There 5 elephants which were chained and viewed from safe distance. There is a tiny elephant museum and AV room. The audio in the AV room was not functional. There was a good children's park and decent cafe within the premises. There is ample parking facilities too. Ok place to spend an hour. Definitely not a must-see place.

A different kind of zoo.
In a zoo wild animals who needs a large area of habitat are kept confined in a cage of size in which they can barely walk around.
Here i thought Konni elephant shelter would be different and they would let the elephants roam in the reserve forest area after a period of time.
But to my surprise the authorities told me they keep the elephants in chains always..!!☹️☹️☹️☹️
Elephants are social animals and here some elephants are clearly distressed. Its clear from its gestures
Its really sad to see such a thing..such a majestic creature unable to live how its supposed to live and kept in captivity for a long time.

The Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple, an ancient Hindu temple situated in Alleppey, is dedicated to the serpent gods and is renowned for its snake paintings. It's a popular pilgrimage site with visitors from all over the world who offer specific items to Nagaraja with the belief that their wishes will come true. The temple is surrounded by lush greenery and designed with typical Kerala architecture.
Peaceful place with a small forest maintained well. A temple devoted to snakes which is a very beautiful gesture which teaches the people about respecting the wild. Small sized tortoises and fishes in the pond are are pleasure to eyes. There is also all time small shopping of toys and beauty products. Toilet and few small restaurant's makes the place a half-station for people coming from long distances. Ample parking space.

Calm and quiet
It's a must visit place. Atmosphere is very peaceful inside the temple. Surrounded by plants and trees. This was the first time I watched traditional "navpor paattu" , 2 moorthi's are the main prathishtta of the temple.
Don't be fooled by local people who are selling offering for lords, because this time fooled by them. First we will think that how good n nice people are they, but actually some are so trickeries. For me the experience was like this:-
We reached the temple's back door, actually the temple is surrounded by small shops which sella offerings to God and toys, accessories, etc. So after we reached there we don't know where to go, we juz asked him about the way, he directed the way to front gate and also he say some stories and offerings which should given to God. Firstly he told it's about 170/_ he was very intelligent business man he convinced us and told don't give the money right now give it once to people leav the place. Then we bought two of the items and went inside. While we reached front gate there were so many shops inside and outside the temple premises. The "Darshanm" was very good, it made my mind peace and blessed feelings. A lot of Parking facility is available inside the temple's compound itself. After that we bought some rings and accessories. Then we were about leave, so we went to that boy then he told the price is 480/_ we were like 🙄 then he is telling some calculations and all, And he also said that if you don't have money give it some day else, this is also his trick because nobody dare to do that, it's about GOD everyone will scared and give, so the same happened we gave him the money and went back. So only thing I wanna say is don't be cheated by people like this. You can buy offerings wherever you want, but don't be cheated by people. I think it's better to buy it from devosm vazhipaaadu counter. One thing is we won't be cheated.

I have a history with this temple. I was born 15 years after my parents marriage and they did a ritual called uruli kamathuka. We thought we should do Thulabhaaram for my son here. There are many changes since 2016(last time we came). The temple stands tall and with pride. The deity, appupankaavu and darshan of Amma are mostly from 10.30am. It's a serene place with lots of trees that looks like a private forest. The unni appam that's prasadam is available in the counters and payasam also available which are too good. Parking is available in plenty and lots of shops to purchase toys, necklaces etc are available.
Easily accessible from main highway.

Very calm, peaceful atmosphere surrounded by sacred groves in which the Serpent Gods are believed to be dwelling. Here, we can offer പുറ്റും മുട്ടയും (puttum muttayum), Naagaroopam (figurine of Serpent God made in metals like silver)apart from common offerings like silk cloth, sesame oil, Camphor etc. Noorum paalum (നൂറും പാലും) is a famous vazhipad here. Another famous vazhipad is Uruli Kamazhthal, doing for having children. Thulabharam is also done here. We can see Pulluvan Patt here, worship done by Pulluvars to remove Sarpa doshas of one who offering the prayers. It is in the form of song, accompanied by an instrument called Pulluvan Veena. We can do this for ourself and our family members. Whoever wants the prayer, we have to tell the name and birth star of them to the Pulluvan. Sundays seem to be very crowded here.
Nagarajavu and Nagayakshiyamma are the main deities here. We can have darshan of Amma also. Amma is chosen from the illam related to temple and is belived as mother of the Serpant Gods.
We can get Appam, and payasam from counter outside temple.

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Kshetram, located in southwestern Kerala, (alappuzha) is a revered ancient pilgrimage site, especially known for serpent worship. It's considered one of the most significant and legendary serpent worship places globally. The temple's history is intertwined with Lord Parasurama, the founder of Kerala, who sought atonement for his sins. He gifted land to Brahmins and propitiated Varuna Deva to acquire it.
A major celebration at Mannarasala is the renowned Mannarasala Ayilyam, held in the Malayalam month of Thulam. Its prominence arises from a historical event when the Maharaja of Travancore rescheduled his visit, bringing grandeur to the Thulam Ayilyam celebration.
Ayilyam days in Kanni and Kumbham are celebrated with enthusiasm. It's a place steeped in spirituality and tradition, making it a must-visit destination for those interested in Kerala's rich heritage.
The temple is indeed a nature-friendly place. It features a serene kaavu (sacred grove) and a peaceful pond within the temple premises. These natural elements enhance the overall ambiance of the temple, creating a peaceful environment for devotees and visitors. The presence of a kaavu and a pond reflects a deep respect for nature and its integral role in the spiritual experience at the temple.

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Kshetram is an ancient pilgrimage centre situated in south-west Kerala.blessed and envisaged by Lord Parasurama, the creator of Kerala. The evolution of Mannarasala as the supreme place of worship of the serpent Gods is associated with Parasurama, the son of Jamadagini and a descendant of Bhrigu. When Parasurama decided to seek atonement from the sin of killing the Kshatriyas, he approached the holy Rishis. They suggested that he should make a gift of a land of his own to the Brahmins. Parasurama propitiated Varuna Deva (the Lord of the Seas) to get some land for himself. Varuna appeared before and advised him to throw his parasu, the axe which Lord Siva had given him, into the sea to reclaim land. He throws it and raises a piece of land from the sea and gives it as a gift to the Brahmins. This land is believed to be the present-day Kerala.( information taken from official website) photography not allowed inside temple. You must try payasam and appam which is very tasty

It is one of the most important Krishna temples in Kerala and is one of the five ancient shrines in Kerala, connected with the legend of the Mahabharata, where the five Pandavas are believed to have built one temple each; Aranmula is built by the Pandava prince Arjuna.
The sacred jewels, called Thiruvabharanam of Ayyappan are taken in procession to Sabarimala each year from Pandalam, and Aranmula Temple is one of the stops on the way. Also, the Thanka Anki, golden attire of Ayyappan, donated by the king of Travancore, is stored here and taken to Sabarimala during the Mandala season of late December.
Aranmula is also known for snake boat race held every year during Onam linked to the legends of the Mahabharata. The temple has four towers over its entrances on its outer wall. The Eastern tower is accessed through a flight of 18 steps and the Northern tower entrance flight through 57 steps leads to the Pamba River. The temples has paintings on its walls dating back to early 18th century.
The temple is open from 4 am to 11:00 am and 5 pm to 8 pm and is administered by Travancore Devaswom Board of the Government of Kerala.
arrows fired from Bhishma's bow breached the defenses of Arjuna and inflicted wounds to his body by penetrating his armour. The string of Arjuna's bow, the Gandiva was snapped during the battle. Seeing Arjuna's plight, Krishna jumped down in rage, and took up his discus charging towards Bhishma. Bhishma was overfilled with joy and surrendered to Krishna. Meanwhile, Arjuna beseeched Krishna not to kill Bhishma, as it would have been against Krishna's vow to take up arms in his battle. It is believed that it is this image of Krishna that is enshrined here, with a discus. This symbolizes the Lord's act of compassion to both his devotees on either side of the battle. Krishna broke his vow to protect Arjuna and also to fulfill the promise that his ardent devotee Bhishma had made.
Krishna presiding here in the Vishvarupa form is considered as "Annadana Prabhu" (The Lord who provides food) along with other temples like Vaikom Mahadeva Temple and Sabarimala. It is believed that those whose Annaprashana is performed at the Aranmula Parthasarathy temple would never be affected by the pangs of poverty throughout their life.
Aranmula Mirror is also related to the history of this temple.
The king of Travancore wanted to donate a crown made of rare metal to the temple and he found a rare combination of copper and lead.
It is believed as per the tradition that preparing the metal polished mirror was produced only by a family. In modern times, the College of Fine Arts have started producing it on commercial scale.

Alappuzha, Kerala beach were so calm and quite when we were there, we visited on first week of December and the climate was perfect for witnessing sunset.
The main attraction was the color of the sky. It was amazing. Almost 1-3 hrs we spent there amazing sunset and cool evening experience there. we need keep maximum clean our beaches.

An awesome beach to enjoy the breeze looking at the colours of sky and tides. This is located road side to the national high way. Many restaurants are nearby. Toilet facility is nearby. This is the best place to start your visit to alappuzha.
Few Ice cream shops are nearby. Its a family friendly place almost always lit by people. Good place for morning walk and warm up.

Photogenic place ... Good for hosting a event there...so many local shop nearby so we can have refreshing drinks and foods from there... Beautiful beach

Poorly maintained beach, authorities have no concern for future generations. Parking fee is charged (parking in road), for what purpose it's not clear. No money spend for sustainable solutions, atleast 10% parking fee collected must be used for sustainable beach development activities.

I had an incredible experience at Alappuzha Beach! The cleanliness of the beach truly stood out, making it a refreshing and inviting place to visit. The stunning view of the ocean was absolutely breathtaking, and the calm atmosphere added to the serenity of the surroundings.
Whether you're looking to relax or take a peaceful stroll by the water, this beach is a perfect destination. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a tranquil coastal getaway! 🏖️🌊

The Alappuzha beach is famous for local getaways, its intrinsic beauty and a old pier which stretches into the sea. Relaxing under the palm groves and picnicking beside the beach are fantastic options available to those visiting the beach. Alleppey Beach is a host to many festivals like Sand Art festival and Alappuzha Beach Festival. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race which takes place every year gives this beach another reason to become the most famous attraction in Kerala.

Who doesn't love beaches. The beach is clean though people flood during the evenings. Ample parking space available. Of course the best time is to visit in the evening for sunset but it will be very crowded.
If one wants to just peacefully sit watching the waves the best time would be in the morning.

This is good beach. As sea is very dero you can not swim. Scenic beach, ensure that you visit here in the early morning or evening for watching beautiful sunset.

Alappuzha Beach is a picturesque and inviting destination that offers a delightful combination of natural beauty and cleanliness. Its sandy shores stretch along the Arabian Sea, providing a serene setting for visitors to relax and unwind. The beach is well-maintained, with efforts made to keep it hygienic and appealing to tourists.
One of the standout features of Alappuzha Beach is its cleanliness. The authorities have taken proactive measures to ensure that the beach remains free of litter and debris, contributing to its pleasant ambiance. Visitors can stroll along the shoreline or enjoy activities such as sunbathing and swimming without worrying about encountering unsightly waste.
The beach's cleanliness is complemented by its scenic surroundings. Palm trees sway gently in the sea breeze, providing shade and adding to the tropical charm of the area. The expansive views of the sea and the horizon create a sense of tranquility, making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks or simply soaking in the natural beauty.
Moreover, Alappuzha Beach offers various amenities for visitors' convenience, including well-maintained pathways, seating areas, and restroom facilities. These amenities enhance the overall experience for tourists, allowing them to spend quality time by the sea in comfort.
In conclusion, Alappuzha Beach stands out as a very nice and hygienic destination for beachgoers. Its cleanliness, combined with its scenic beauty and amenities, makes it a highly enjoyable and rejuvenating place to visit along Kerala's coastline.

The beach is expansive with a substantial crowd, offering a decent experience. However, cleanliness falls short of perfection. Despite the large area, some improvements are needed to enhance the overall quality.

Very crowded and one cannot bath in the sea here. Also, the place is very dirty. There's a place to change your clothes close by. But what's the use if you're not allowed to bath in the sea. There were many crabs and it was nice to see them. Overall not a great beach.
Vaibhav Jena — Google review
The beach holds potential as a desirable location, but its current state is disappointing due to poor maintenance. With proper care and upkeep, it could have been a much more enjoyable and appealing destination for visitors.

Cleanest beach. One can enjoy the sunrise view. Alleppey Beach is a great spot for a quick evening visit and have fun at the beach. Enjoy some snacks and tea here and witness the sunset view. Mornings are cool with fewer people, so it's a good call to visit then. Evenings get crowded, though. There's parking available, but it comes with a fee yet visitors have to park on the side of the road The best time for the beach vibes is during sunset, but expect it to be packed. it's a clean and long beach, waves are strong which is unsafe for kids and there are winds too. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a tranquil coastal getaway!
Alleppey Beach is a host to many festivals like the Sand Art Festival and Alappuzha Beach Festival. The beach is also known for its various recreational activities. Visitors can engage in beach volleyball, cricket, and other beach sports. There are private bathing spots and paid washing/changing areas near the beach. An old discarded small ship was found at the beach to display for visitors.
Nice experience, they give you a chief and driver.Go for delux or above.

Worst boating stay. They don't turn the AC on till night even if it's hot and humid outside.
Horrible food which was served onboard. They didn't even offered salad along with food. No provision of cold drinking water. In name of welcome drinks, offered "Real Juice". It stinks at night as boat remains is stationed at one location. Washrooms weren't clean.

I visited Alleppey to enjoy this house boat last week. A wonderful experience I have got while on the boat. Foods were prepared in the boat and served by the boatmen.
Foods were hot and delicious. Speed boats are available there for thrilling surfing in the lake water.
On the way, some shops are having milk, chicken, fish, mutton and more available. Boatmen told me, if you want to eat anything available in the on going shop, purchase on your own cost and we are ready to cook. This is apart from their giving food menu.
Also icecreams are available in a small boat wandering around the lake.

This quaint village near Alleppey boasts rich culture and traditions, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing beach vacation. National Geographic has recognized Marari Beach as one of the top Hammock Beaches in the World.

Positives: Beach is very clean. Not many hawkers to disturb you. It's a long beach so ideally suited for morning/evening walk.
Negatives: 1. Absolutely no civic amenities. If you are coming here from long way away, make sure that you stop at some decent hotel on the highway for a toilet/food break.
2. Very poor parking facilities. You can park about half a dozen vehicles, and there are at least half a dozen vehicles in the parking lot at all times. Which means you must park on the road which is already very narrow. And since this beach is getting quite popular, roadside parking too is a stressful affair.
Overall a beach with very good potential, let down badly by very poor planning by authorities.

There have been mixed reviews of Marari beach. For a real traveller who appreciates observing the life of the locals it’s great! Yeah it’s not paradise, it’s just a beach. It’s not perfectly clean. Yeah there’s some rubbish floating about at the busier end but it has a good vibe with nice places to eat or grab a drink whilst being by the sea or curling up on a sun lounger with a book. Fab place to go to in the early hours of the morning to see the local fishermen bring in their catch and watch the crabs scurry along the sand dipping in and out of the water. Lots of stray dogs but not a problem if you don’t mind dogs! The crows are a pest but you just shoo them away. I really enjoyed my stay here and the beach. Really chilled. Pretty quiet with few tourists which I prefer! Don’t expect luxury. Just appreciate it for what it is. Real India.
I highly recommend Marari Nest Homestay nearby. It was the best Homestay I stayed in during the 5 weeks I was in India. Really clean, comfortable, gorgeous garden, five star hospitality and only a 4 minute walk to the beach.

The Aruvikuzhy Waterfalls is a charming hiking and picnic destination located in close proximity to Pala. The falls are approximately 30 ft tall and only active during monsoon season, making it an idyllic spot for visitors who enjoy the natural beauty of waterfalls. During summer, the river almost completely dries up. The attraction is situated 2 km from Pallickathode and 7.

Better visit during monsoon or when there is rain. is situated 2 km (1.2 mi) from Pallickathode and 7.5 km (4.7 mi) from Pampady. Monsoon has many surprises in store for visitors and residents alike in Kerala. Many a stream and waterfall come to life with the sudden heavy rains hitting the state. Aruvikkuzhi falls is one such monsoon wonder. Located in the landlocked district of Kottayam, this waterfall attracts plenty of visitors during season. It is a delight to watch the crystal clear waters falling from a height of 30 feet. The surrounding plantations and trekking trails are favourite spots for nature and adventure lovers. Families are often seen camping in these areas. Aruvikkuzhi falls is a perfect one day picnic spot for families.

This waterfall is so soothing and it feels like "rainforest". Best part is the greenery and the clear water. It is clear, not clean, because the people who visits there make the place a mess by casually throwing plastics and other junks in the water and surroundings. It is actually common to people that every tourist destination in Kerala has this kind of " junkyards". People are so stupid to do this and they are treating this like a usual/common thing.

Good place to visit. Contains more steps. Entry fees is Rs 26.I Had a bad review regarding that place because couples are spending more time there. So they were engaged in different love making process. Especially college students. We went and just only spent little time there due to this. Water contains feaces matter, dirty, all house waste are dropping into it. So felt so bad.
Grace Vinod — Google review
This place is properly managed in terms of entry and exit. There is a single entry and exit. Plastic is completely prohibited here, which is a great thing. The way to the waterfalls is a bit difficult during rainy days since they have used (kind of) glossy tiles instead of hard gripped tiles. Also, it is highly recommended to deploy at least two life guards during heavy monsoons if they are permitting people to bathe in the falls. Some people got no sense and will climb the slippery slope, all the way to the top. Some people bring infants and sit with them right in the middle of the falls, which is not all recommended. During monsoon season, torrential downpours can happen anytime and can lead to disasters. So please come, keep calm and visit this beautiful place and leave.

The History Of Ettumanoor Temple
Ettumanoor Mahadeva temple is an ancient Shiva temple in Kottayam, Kerala, India. It has brought glory and fame to the place. Myths have it that the Pandavas and the sage Vyasa had worshipped at this temple. The name of the place has its origin from the word ‘manoor’, which means the land of deer. The temple is one of the major Shiva temples in Kerala counted along with the Shiva temples of Chengannur Mahadeva Temple, Kaduthruthy Mahadeva Temple, Vaikom Temple, Ernakulam Shiva Temple and Vadakkunathan temple.
The present temple building, with its gopuram and the fortress around it, was reconstructed in 717 ME (1542 AD). There are Dravidian mural paintings on the walls inside and outside of the main entrance. The fresco of Pradosha Nritham (Dance of Shiva) is one of the finest Wall painting in India. There is a golden flag staff inside the temple. On the top of it is the idol of a bull surrounded by small bells and metal leaves of the banyan tree and in terms of architecture this temples stands out to be an ultimate testimant for the vishwakarma Sthapathis, for their engineering skills. The temple roofs are covered with copper sheets and it has 14 ornamental tops. Bhagavati, Sastha, Ganapathy and Yakshi are installed here as subordinate deities. It is believed that the great philosopher, Adi Sankaracharya wrote ‘Soundarya Lahari’ while staying in the temple.
The origin of Ettumanoorappan is from Kattampakk, a small village in Kottayam district.
Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple hosts the arattu festival celebrated on a grand scale on the Thiruvathira day in February–March every year. Lot of people come to this temple on the 8th and 10th day of the festival when seven and half elephants (in Malayalam: ezharaponnaana) made of gold (nearly 13 Kgms) will be held in public view. This statue was donated to the temple by a travancore maharaja. The temple, one of the wealthiest Devaswoms in Kerala, has many valuable possessions.
The Thulabharam is one of the important rituals of this temple. People make offerings to God for favours received. On balance, the child or man for whom offerings were promised to God, is weighed against offerings ranging from gold to fruits.
Ezhara Ponnana refers to the seven-and-a-half golden elephants which are kept in the temple vault and taken out once in an year for darshan by the devotees. The eight statuettes, seven having a height of two ft. each and the eighth one, half the size, (hence the name Ezhara (seven-and- a- half) Ponnana (Golden elephant) has a rich legacy behind it. According to legend, it was presented to the temple by Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma, the founder of the Travancore kingdom. According to another story, while Marthanda Varma had made the pledge to present the ‘ponnana’ the offering was made during the reign of his successor, Maharaja Karthika Thirunal. There are also differing stories about the reason for the offering: some believe it was offered as a penalty for the damages suffered by the temple during the annexation of Thekkumcore with Travancore; some others believe it was the offering made when the marauding army of Tipu Sultan was hammering on the gates of Travancore. The statuettes are made of jackfruit tree and covered with nearly 13 kg of gold plates.
Ezhara Ponnana Darshan, is one of the high points of the temple festival which is being held in the midnight of the eighth day of the ten day festival. Ezhara Ponnana Darshan begins with the ceremonial procession carrying the eight golden statuettes of elephants and they are later kept at the Asthana Mndapam for the annual darshan by the devotees.

According to legend, an Asura called Khara got three Shivalingas from Lord Shiva himself. He took them with him to Kerala, holding one by his teeth and one each in his right and left hand. While the Lingam held by his teeth was consecrated in Kaduthuruthi, the one held in his right hand was consecrated in Vaikom ( Vaikom Mahadeva Temple) and the one held in his left hand was consecrated in Ettumanoor.
After consecrating all these 3 divine places in the same day, Khara is believed to have become a deer and started worshiping the Gods. It is believed that the God in Ettumanoor took the deer in his hand and held it there. Because of that, this place was called Udhruthaina Puram, which means Ettumanoor in Malayalam (The place where the deer was lifted).
Belief - Vaikom Mahadev Temple with Ettumanoor Siva Temple & Kaduthuruthy Thaliyil Mahadeva Temple - Legend is that the Shiva lingam found here was installed by the Demon KHARA from the epic Ramayana. He worshipped Shiva at Chidambaram and obtained 3 Lingams. He carried one in each hand and the third in his mouth.
Since this Lingam was installed from his mouth, the place got the name "Kadichiruthy Prathishitta". (Kadichu - bite, thuruthy - to be placed). The other 2 Lingams were installed at Vaikom & Ettumanoor. Hence it is believed that darshan of all 3 Lingams before noon on a single day fulfils ones wishes.

Nestled in the historic Jew Town of Old Cochin, the Paradesi Synagogue is a significant landmark as it is the oldest among the seven synagogues in the area that are still in use. The name "Paradesi" meaning foreigners was given to it when it was built by Spanish-speaking Jews in 1567. This synagogue houses a remarkable collection of rare antique items, including copper plates from the 4th century and gold crowns gifted by local kings.

This Jewish synagogue was built in 1568, almost 1500 years after the beginning of the Jewish connection with Kerala. It was built on the land, adjacent to the Mattancherry Palace, given by the erstwhile king of Cochin.
The synagogue, the oldest in the Commonwealth, was built by the Jewish community of Cochin. In 1662, it was destroyed by the Portguese and then reconstructed, two years later, by the Dutch.
Enter the synagogue and the large main hall arrests your attention with display of rare antique objects that add to the grandeur of the place. The light falling through the large open windows make the sight of chandeliers and lamps more delightful. These glass chandeliers dangling from the ceiling belong to the 19th century and were imported from Belgium.
The floor of the synagogue itself is a showpiece with the paving of hand-painted blue willow patterned floor tiles. These ceramic tiles were brought from Canton, China in the 18th century by Ezekiel Rahabi, a renowned Jewish businessman. Each tile is different from one another in its design and it never fails to capture the admiration of the visitors. The marvellous construction of the synagogue is revealed in all its features including the splendid pillars.
A pulpit with brass rails is built in the center of the room. An exclusive gallery for women with gilt columns, a carved teak ark etc can be seen in the synagogue. The teak Ark houses four scrolls of Torah (the first five books of Old Testament) and they are encased in silver and gold. Two gold crowns presented to the Jewish Community by the Kings of Kochi and Travancore are also kept here.

The Paradesi Synagogue, also known as the Cochin Jewish Synagogue or the Mattancherry Synagogue (Malayalam: പരദേശി ജൂതപള്ളി), stands as a historic landmark in Jew Town, a suburb of Kochi, Kerala, India. Erected in 1568 A.D. by Samuel Castiel, David Belila, and Joseph Levi, this synagogue was a testament to the vibrant Paradesi Jewish community in Kochi, comprising both Malabari Jews and Sephardic refugees fleeing religious persecution in Spain and Portugal.
As the oldest active synagogue within the Commonwealth of Nations, Paradesi Synagogue reflects a fascinating blend of Indian and Portuguese influences. The term "Paradesi" translates to "foreigners" in several Indian languages, aptly characterizing the synagogue's builders, who were Sephardic or Portuguese-speaking Jews, some hailing from exile in Aleppo, Safed, and other West Asian locales.
Nestled in Jew Town, the synagogue is a rare operational relic among the seven synagogues in the vicinity. Although the Kadavumbhagam Synagogue (1544 A.D) and Thekkumbhagam Synagogue (1647 A.D) are older, they are no longer in use. The Paradesi Synagogue complex, comprising four buildings, shares a common wall with the Mattancherry Palace temple, emphasizing its historical and cultural significance.
The synagogue's history is intertwined with the Malabari Jews, a prosperous trading community controlling a significant portion of the global spice trade. The Paradesi Synagogue, constructed adjacent to the Mattancherry Palace in 1568, replaced the original Cochin synagogue destroyed during the Portuguese persecution in the 16th century. The present synagogue, protected by the Raja of Kochi, became a place of worship for the Sephardim and later European exiled Jews.
Visitors to this architectural marvel are greeted with a serene and beautifully maintained place. A nominal entry fee of 10 rupees is required to explore the rich history, intricate architecture, and cultural significance encapsulated within the Paradesi Synagogue. This historic gem stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Jewish community in Kochi.

Purportedly the oldest synagogue in the commonwealth. Points to the ancient history of Judaism in Kerala - which is well illustrated by a few paintings in a small room adjoining the main entrance to the synagogue complex.

This a small synagogue built by the jews who lived here many years ago. On entering the compund, you can buy a ticket to visit the synagogue. Before the synagogue there is a small room showing the history of jews in Fort Kochi. Then you enter the synagogue.
A synagogue is a religious place for jews. They dont have a big idol of Christ. They have a podium kind of structure from where they give sermons. But since nobody visits the synagogue anymore, it is non-functional and open to visitors. The floor work, the ceilings everything was beautiful. Being there made me a little sad.

Visiting hours are from 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Thursday, offering ample time to immerse oneself in its rich heritage. However, on Fridays, the window narrows to 10 am to 2 pm, and regrettably, it remains closed on Saturdays.

I would recommend to visit this place early in the morning as soon as it’s open, free from crowd. It takes 30minutes to 1hour for exploring. The only downside is it’s a bit warm inside, fans are placed at certain places alone. Outside you will be able to sit down and rest in the small garden space.

This place is also called the 'Dutch palace' where you can experience the theme of Dutch but the artistic skills of Kerala Murali Paintings, Wood Carving, Architectural amusements here. Photography is allowed inside the palace (except for the Kerala Murali Painting Rooms). Still the place is well maintained. Though we visited in the month of March, it was too hot. Make sure to carry a water bottle and an umbrella. There are a lot of shops around this place where mostly clothing, books, arts, and figurines can be found. For me, it mostly reflected the Portuguese style of streets rather than the Dutch ones. Maybe because both ruled the place at some point of time and hence the hint of both Dutch and Portuguese.

The architecture is more mesmerizing than the articles
What stands out is the illustrative paintings inside the palace sadly one can not click the pictures of them. You may click pictures of the other articles in the museum.

It's such a beautiful place to visit with friends and family.
You'll find a whole lot of cafes, restaurants, art and crafts stores, clothes stores and many more.
You can see the glance of Portugese and Dutch architecture here.
Whenever you're in Kochi and looking for a cool and nice place, come here.

The Kerala Kathakali Centre, established in 1990 in Kochi, is dedicated to promoting and preserving the traditional arts of Kerala. The center showcases masked Kathakali dance performances and martial arts demonstrations, aiming to elevate the standards of training and performances through rigorous discipline. Additionally, it encourages various traditional arts and rituals. Visitors can witness daily Kathakali shows with makeup demonstrations beforehand, as well as Indian classical music performances in the evenings.
It does not get more authentic than this. An absolute must visit when in Cochin. A unique art form from Kerala region that gets explained quite well, together with a short show. You will only appreciate this art form even more.
Message them for available shows, they respond well.

What can I really say about the performance!! Since make up session till the end I just sit tight at one place. The theatre hall, the ambience, the decoration, the music, the dance... Each and everything was so perfect. The elaborate discussion on make up ingredients and characterizations was so informative. I enjoyed, actually overjoyed while watching such a performance by the artists. It was awesome. This performance should be a must watching item while planning the Kerala trip.

Most reviews here seem to be about kathakali. But I want to add a note that the classical indian music performances are also incredible! Top tear artists from around south India performing beautiful raga improvisations, every night except Saturdays 8-9pm. Each day is different (me my partner and my friends have already been to 3 amazing performances, and we’re not done), and definitely recommend checking this out too!

Experience the captivating Kathakali dance, a traditional art form from Kerala, India. Its distinctive facial expressions and movements are truly mesmerizing, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. The traditional makeup, crafted from coconut and natural pigments, adds to the allure of the performance.
The storyline, narrated through the graceful movements, revolves around a king expressing his emotions through a golden swan. The first act unveils the tale of the king and the swan, while the latter part delves into the king's affection for a woman, all depicted through captivating expressions, gestures, and movements. It's a delightful spectacle where emotions come alive through the art of storytelling. Satisfaction guaranteed!

An absolutely amazing experience! Immense respect for the art & how nice & humble the people were. Especially the Demo was quite a treat to watch. A definite must visit.

Definitely the highlights of my Kochi trip. They provide demonstration of the nine expressions and key mudras, plus the scripts, so that we can follow the actual performance of the short play better. The martial arts performance is also excellent. We want to see the third performance of classical Indian music but it’s cancelled that day because of the pandemic and drastic decrease of tourists. Please don’t miss this place when you are in the area. It’s also recommended to go early to see how they put on makeup.

Great experience and your money goes towards keeping the Centre open (they do other types of performances). It was nice to watch the makeup application process and learn the history behind Kathakali. The makeup artists, musicians, and performers are all very talented. If you’re looking for something authentic and to learn about something about the local culture, I highly recommend it!

Mesmerising dance show. True artists. Wonderful authentic cultural experience of Indian face painting, dance and acting. Performed through English and suitable for all ages. Also highly recommend morning yoga in the centre but be sure to let them know you're coming in advance as the class doesn't run every day.

A must visit place. The show begins with the makeup of the artists and then they showcase what are the expressions and hand gestures for different emotions. Last part is they enact a small story. The whole experience is so good that you can actually see the hardwork and the cultural creativity.

This place was easily the highlight of our 3-day stay in Fort Kochi. We visited it on all 3 days, attending the South Indian classical music, North Indian classical music, Kathakali, Odissi dance and Kalaripayattu martial art performances. Every single performance was simply outstanding. Huge respect for all performers and for Mr. Sujeendran, who comperes for the whole set of performances as well as lends his voice to the Kathakali performance.
The performances are held 365 days a year. While the Kathakali performance was houseful, the classical music performances sadly had very low attendance. Despite there being only 3 members in the audience, the performers performed just as they would for a houseful attendance - a clear sign of love for their art.
The set-up is a rather non-descript building that is not obvious from outside, but is actually quite a big auditorium on the inside.
I would strongly recommend attending all 5 performances on different days, and supporting the center and the preservation of these wonderful forms of Indian art.
Vishwa Mukhtyar — Google review
The Kathakali show in Kochi is a total must-do! Super impressed with how they've not only preserved the art but also introduced it to tourists through a thoughtfully crafted show. It's a brilliant initiative to keep this cultural art alive and thriving!
Lahari — Google review
From outside its easy to miss this spot. You have to walk through some narrow and dark lanes to reach the auditorium.
The artists showcase the entire makeup process, followed by a small skit. The audi and stage have a very ancient vibe, keeping true to the original art.
Tip - While booking, insist on seats ahead. For some reason when we went all foreigners were allotted seats in the front and locals were seated at the back.
Cost - Rs.500 per ticket

A wonderful place. The rooftop yoga in the morning is excellent. The meditation Ragas are an incredible experience. The martial arts are an interesting performance. The live music is truly exceptional, very talented musicians from all over Kerala and Karnataka. Highly recommended is this is the sort of thing you’re looking for.

We went to see Kathakali and stayed for the Martial Arts and South Indian Classical music performances too and it was absolutely worth it! You can't come to Kerala without seeing Kathakali and this is the best place for it! You also don't wanna miss the classical music performance, as you can learn so much about Indian music - and it's very fun and engaging! Martial arts were also stunning, very fun for kids too! The price is very cheap considering what you get to see, and the owner is so knowledgeable, passionate and full of joy!

Wonderful traditional performance. We appreciated the storytelling and explanations which were accessible to people from all over the world.
Perfect entertainment for a rainy day in monsoon season.

Easily my most favorite experience in Fort Kochi and something which is unmissable for anyone visiting this place.
Located in proximity to all tourist attractions, schedule 2 hours in the evening specifically for this place. Trust me you will not regret it.
At a very affordable price, you will get to experience the beautiful artform of Kathakali, it starts off with a demonstration of how the performers apply the unique make up, the various expressions and steps in Kathakali followed by a performance of a mythological story. I was enthralled and left speechless by the end of the performance.
This is followed by a brilliant performance of Kerala Martial arts, how they train and apply their skills.
Support this endeavor and encourage local artforms. Do visit this place without fail

The place is not only a theatre to appreciate the best of the art in the region, but a shelter for artists and with the unique possibilities to connect with them after the performances. When visiting Fort Kochi in South India, be sure to take in the mesmerizing sight of the Chinese Fishing Nets. These iconic nets, suspended from tall bamboo frames, have been a symbol of Kerala's colonial legacy for over 500 years. They are particularly captivating against the backdrop of the setting sun and are a popular subject for photographs and postcards.
This is a unique place in cochin beside the Arabian sea where you will find fisherman catch fish and sells hear or nearby market. Now a days it becomes a tourist activity where they will explain the activity and you got chance to fishing with them. They will show you how in older days they manually use the net. Now a days motor is used for the operation . In return of your experience they ask tip.
Shyam — Google review
Nice to visit, especially early in the morning when the fishermen are out with their boats or just fishing with nets from the shore. The fresh fish gets sold on the spot, some stands will even make a dish out of it for you. Its also a nice walk on the shore.
joris v — Google review
The Chinese Fishing Nets at Fort Kochi is a must visit attraction in Kerala. These are fixed land installations, used for fishing in a unique method. These nets are fixed on bamboo and teak poles holding it horizontally by huge mechanisms so as to pull them down into the sea. These nets are weighed by large stones tied to ropes.
Operated by a team of six fishermen, the height of the Chinese fishing nets is around 10 meters, each sprawling to 20 meters over the water body. Each net has a fixed operating depth and due to this a net cannot be repeatedly worked in tidal waters. There are different fishing nets for operation which are based on the state of the tide.
Ramana Muddada — Google review
Nice place to take photos and it looks beautiful in photos.
Best photos are not from the fishing net platform, but from a distance so you may avoid walking on the platform which you need to pay up after the visit.
When you visit, there would be some not so clean area, and smell of fish being sold may not be appealing to people who are not used to and vegetarian kind.
Sudershan Singh Gusain — Google review
I recently visited the Chinese fishing nets in Fort Kochi and was struck by the beautiful views and historic atmosphere. The fishing nets themselves were an interesting and unique sight to see, and it was fascinating to watch the fishermen at work.
However, I was disappointed to see that the area was not as clean as I would have liked. There was a significant amount of litter and debris scattered throughout the area, which detracted from the overall beauty of the place.
Overall, while the Chinese fishing nets in Fort Kochi are a beautiful and historic attraction, I would recommend taking steps to ensure that the area is kept clean in order to fully enjoy the experience.

The Chinese Fishing Nets in Fort Kochi are a must-see for any visitor to Kerala. These massive nets, which are suspended from tall bamboo frames and are lowered into the water by hand. The fishermen then use a pulley system to raise the nets, which are often filled with fish. It is a fascinating sight to see and a great way to learn about traditional fishing methods.
In addition to being a fascinating example of traditional fishing, the Chinese Fishing Nets also offer stunning views of the surrounding area. From here, you can see the bustling port of Kochi, as well as the many ships ⛴️ and boats that ply the waters of the Arabian Sea🌊.
The Chinese Fishing Nets are a great place to spend an afternoon 🌅. They are free to visit, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby where you can enjoy a delicious meal.
Here are some of the things you can do at the Chinese Fishing Nets:
Watch the fishermen operate the nets 🎣
Take photos of the nets and the surrounding area
Learn about the history of the nets
I highly recommend visiting the Chinese Fishing Nets if you are in Fort Kochi. They are a fascinating and beautiful sight.

Located in the banks of kochi beach..you cannot get the full view of the fishing nets as you see in the google photos. Its very crowded in the evening but a good time to spend on a sunset. If you want to see the mechanism of the fishing nets then you have to visit early in the mornings.

Nice place with fantastic beach view. You can view most of the ships from the Indian navy fleet crossing this section. The Chinese fishing nets are awesome to see.
Plenty of platform ships available for lemon juice and snacks.

There are around 10-12 Chinese Fishing Nets on the Walkway. But the place is not very clean and to go and see from near you have to shed some bucks.
The Nets are raised and lowered depending on the tides and later the catch is put for Auction and we can buy from there if you want.
But overall the place has to be raised to next level to meet the standard and keep it tidy and clean , as this is the face of Fort Kochi and one of the iconic spots on the island.

An interesting way of fishing which I had never seen before anywhere.
Also you have a lot of souvenir shops all along the beach.
Though this beach means business and it’s not at all for bathing etc as it’s quite smelly and dirty.

December 2023:
Really dirty area. Needs to be maintained better... And be aware that the fishermen will allow you to come onto their net platforms very willingly, but then they will be extremely angry if you don't give them a hefty payment/baksheesh for it. Better stay off the fishing-net platforms if you don't want to part with money over it!

It could be a stunning place but its a rubbish dip 😭😭😭.
Certainly an interesting place regarding the history but a shame that they don't look after it. You get some nice views from the beach when you pass piles of rubbish and fishing boats.
The Chinese fishing nets are believed to have been introduced in Kochi by Chinese explorer Zheng He, from the court of the Kubla Khan. The fishing net established itself on the Kochi shores between 1350 and 1450 AD.

It is near the fort kochi beach. These fishing nets are in back waters. It is bit crowded in evening. Visit in mornings to know working and to avoid crowds. But evening you can enjoy sunsets.
These are said to be introduced in Kochi by Chinese explorer Zheng He, from the court of the Kubla Khan. The fishing net established itself on the Kochi shores between 1350 and 1450 AD.
Each fishing net is operated by more than four fishermen and is made in such a way that the weight of a man walking on the main plank is enough to cause the equipment to be pulled down into the sea.

A great beach, though it is narrow due to climate change and the rising ocean. A barrier has been built between the beach and the road so you need to climb up to get on the beach in some places.
But there is more than enough space to walk along the beach. The ocean here is pleasant and calm, perfect to swim or even just float. Sunsets were beautiful.

Nice beach to enjoy your evening. Moderately calm waters. Beach is clean and there are enough rocks to sit and enjoy the view. Gets crowded in the evening which spoils the experience a bit. The sunset was beautiful. It’s too far from Kochi and the taxi fare varies from INR 800-1200. During peak hours, it gets difficult to book Ola or Uber. Hiring a taxi for up and down is more convenient. There are shops near by from where you can buy beach dresses, towels, beach toys for kids etc. There are many food outlets near by to have food, which are average ‘daaba types’ and you will not find any fancy restaurants close to the beach. A few meters from the beach, there is a privately owned place that offers bathrooms to take bath and change your dress. It’s neat but not well maintained. Charges are nominal. Though it’s safe, you should make sure to go there when there are people around. Take care of your belongings. Overall, the experience was good and satisfactory!

The Paliam Dutch Palace is located in the district of Ernakulam in the village of Chennamangalam. The palace is believed to have been a safe house for the ministers of the royal family when security was under threat due to the Portuguese. Dutchmen built and presented this palace and in construction you can see their masterclass craft. 30% of materials has been renewed due to wear and tear and flood effects, but the authority has kept it in good condition. Entry fee is there. Monday holiday. Guides assistance available. They were too good with their knowledge and support during our visit. Photography not allowed inside, so could not take photos of it. Kodanad Elephant Training Centre is a wildlife sanctuary located on the riverside, that serves as a rescue center for wild elephants. The center also offers interactive feedings and observation points with safari tours. Visitors can enjoy a nature walk accompanied by elephants and deer while experiencing the forest atmosphere. However, it's essential to note that this isn't a petting zoo or an encounter experience but rather focuses on rescuing wild animals.
The place has a huge area with very well maintained flora and fauna. The elephants here look healthy and friendly. A good place for a nice stroll, with fruit orchards, bamboo trees etc. A great number of deers as well as sambar deer are there. The butterfly garden is also nice. One watch tower to climb up and take pictures. On the other side boating is available. It's a nice place for a day outing. Elephant Training can be seen but not allowed to go near them. Roads are well connected. No hotels nearby. Better to come in the morning and enjoy here.

A good spot to spend time especially evenings with friends and family. The spot is located between perumbavoor and kalady and near to malayatoor. The place has butterfly park, deer park, elephant training centre etc. The place is occupied with variety species of trees etc. A small kids park is also their. Their are so many tree houses also. We can spend 1-2 hours by seeing the things around here. It is easily accessible from perumbavoor and kalady. A parking fees of 20 for two wheelers should be paid at the time of entrance and an entrance fee of Rs 50 should be paid for entry..

It will be better for small kids to have a long walk and can view some elephants. But there are only two tuskers available while we visited. For aged people it will be a longer walk without any reasons, because the elephants are at the end of the centre

In addition to the people of Thrissur and Palakkad not being much excited about seeing elephants because it is so easy to see them everyday and could not compare to punathoor kotta but it’s may be different purpose ,even though this is a good place where elephants can be seen and most of the elephants are females, but this is one male elephant. Restrooms are very close by, and walking towards this place is very nice, as well as the Mini Zoo, butterfly garden and walkways they have built.

A good place for children. Lot of deers and 5 elephants was there. A small children park set up is there. River side walkway garden and the forest atmosphere are very attractive.

Kodanad Elephant Sanctuary is a rural riverside village in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. It is home to the Kodanad Elephant Training Centre, which is the only elephant rescue and training centre in Kerala. The centre is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating elephants that have been injured, orphaned, or displaced from their natural habitats.
The centre is open to the public and offers a variety of activities, including elephant bathing, and feeding the elephants. Visitors can also learn about the history of the centre and the work that it does to protect elephants.
The elephants at the centre are well-cared for and receive regular veterinary care. They are also trained in a variety of tasks, such as carrying loads, performing tricks, and giving rides.
The Kodanad Elephant Sanctuary is a great place to learn about elephants and their conservation. It is also a fun and educational experience for the whole family.
Here are some pros and cons of the sanctuary:
Pros:
-The elephants are well-cared for and receive regular veterinary care.
-The centre is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating elephants.
-Visitors can learn about the history of the centre and the work that it does to protect elephants.
-The elephants are trained in a variety of tasks, which is interesting to watch.
-The sanctuary is a beautiful setting, with lush vegetation and a river running through it.
Cons:
-Some visitors may be sad to see the elephants chained up.
(I believe with time the government may change its policy and elephants will roam free)
-The sanctuary is not very large, so it can get crowded during peak times.
Overall, I would recommend visiting the Kodanad Elephant Sanctuary if you are interested in learning about elephants and their conservation. It is a great place to see these amazing animals up close and learn about the work that is being done to protect them.
Here are some additional details about the sanctuary:
Opening hours: 8am to 6pm, closed on Mondays.
Parking fees: ₹20 for two-wheelers and auto rickshaws, ₹50 for four-wheelers, ₹70 for mini buses, and ₹120 for buses.
Entry fees: ₹50 for Indian citizens (adults), ₹20 for Indian citizens (children 5-13 years old), ₹300 for foreign citizens, and ₹250 for still cameras.
Toilet facilities: There are toilet facilities available for both men and women.
The facility is owned & Managed by State Government of Kerala.

Its a training centre for, to quote the women on the ticket counter 'naughty elephants'. The elephants who have harmed people. But I don't think thats entirely true, because there were nice elephants too like Asha and her mother. The ticket cost Rs50 for adults.
This training centre is like a big park which extends into wildlife sanctuary . But tourists are not allowed to visit the wildlife sanctuary part.
The training centre has butterfly park in the beginning but we didn't see many butterflies there. Then they have deer park. As in a fenced area with lots of deer in it. After that comes the elephant station.
One cannot go closer to the elephants or give them food or bath. One can only look at them from a distance. If you will move ahead, then you will find children's park with some swings and a food stall.

Hmmmm it's a good peaceful place to visit with your family and friends. You can easily spend 1 or 2 hours there but I was expecting more. It was nice to see the elephants, calling them with their names. Watched their activities. Some other animals like deers and sambhar were also there. Lots of plants and greenery. It was like a zoo.
Preeti Chowdhry — Google review
Ample parking space, very neat and beautifully maintained walkways. Filled with so many trees and plants, greenery was so satisfying. Mini zoo with deers and some elephants was good. Necessary food n snacks are available inside. Childrens park, swings, naturely seatings..everything was worth every penny. Fee per person was only Rs.50/-
Video camera fee Rs.250 was little high though.

It's an elephant training camp which houses about 10 elephants ranging from the age group of 19-52 years. It wasn't very crowded.
You could see elephants being bathed from a distance.
1-1.5hrs could be spend so clubbing with other nearby places will be ideal.
2 breeds of deers along with a butterfly garden can a be seen in the mini zoo.
A cafe is also present inside.
Entry fee : 50rs
Parking fee : 50rs

I have visited this place many times during my childhood. We went last week and this place have changed drastically. Now it’s all allotted and clean but they don’t allow people near the animals. May be due to safety concerns. There’s a mini zoo, elephants, lots of tree houses, swings, lake view etc.

Kodanadu Elephant Camp is an elephant training centre situated in the small town of Kodanadu in Kerala. The camp is located along the Periyar River, surrounded by lush green and hills, making it a popular tourist attraction in the area. The camp was established in the 1950s and was used as a training centre for elephants that were later employed in the forestry industry. However, following the ban on logging at the end of the 20th century, the camp was converted into a preservation and rescue centre for elephants. Recently, Arikomban was supposed to be brought here and the wooden cage also made for it.
Today, the Kodanadu Elephant Camp is home to many elephants, both adults and calves. Visitors can watch the elephants bathed in the river, fed and cared for by the mahouts (elephant keepers), and even take walks through the surrounding forests. Visitors can also attend training sessions where the mahouts teach the elephants various commands and tricks.
In addition to elephants, the Kodanadu Elephant Camp also offers other activities such as rafting and birdwatching. The surrounding rainforest is rich n flora and fauna, and visitors can spot various species of animals and birds.
Overall, the Kodanadu Elephant Camp is a must-see destination for nature lovers and animal enthusiasts offering a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with one of the world's largest and most majestic animals.

The Athirappilly Waterfalls, also known as the Niagara Falls of India, is a well-known and picturesque waterfall located in Kerala. It stands at an impressive height of 80 feet and is situated at the edge of Sholayar forest ranges. The falls offer visitors two paths leading to the top and bottom, making it a popular picnic spot. During monsoon season, the Athirappilly Falls become even more magnificent.
Very good falls.
The beautiful scenic falls is in Kerala near Thrissur dt.
The only catch here is: everyone has to walk downhill for 15-20 mins to see the beautiful athirappily waterfalls.
The highest falls in the region and the most scenic falls.
Please do not throw plastics and keep the surroundings plastic free and friendly nature.

You have to come down a bit to reach the foot from where the view is breathtaking. Aged folks and people with lower back or leg issues may find it difficult hence need to be aware before taking the hike.

When I visited this remarkable place on a weekend, I was astounded by the sheer beauty of the waterfalls. However, it was quite crowded, which is to be expected given its popularity. To ensure a hassle-free experience, I discovered that there is a convenient clock room available where we can securely store our belongings for a nominal fee of Rs. 5.
Moreover, I highly recommend wearing shoes or sandals with excellent grip when exploring this enchanting location. This precaution will not only enhance your safety but also allow you to fully immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring surroundings.

I was excited to visit this place. Beautiful picturesque. Found there wide falls coming down which was spectacular to see. I visited 1 week ago and was wondering how beautiful it becomes in the monsoon! Time just passed away and I was late with my itinerary. One thing to remember, beware of monkeys at this place - they just snatch away food items if once noticed !

Well managed property with a great view. You can sit for long and enjoy the view as much you want.
Recently kerala government started an initiative to trek through the other side of the falls, that is also good experience... It will take you 2 days.
If you visit this place then my suggestion is to start early and cover waterfalls and leave to sholayar dam and return before 6 -8 pm... Otherwise you may find a place to stay

Mesmerising beauty of this place is more beautiful 🤩 then you saw in movies 🎥.
Reaching there is itself a fun.
From the gate it self you have to walk through a trail and will not get the proper glimpse until you reach on top or bottom.
You will only able to hear water fall sound.
On the top you can enjoy the water and play in it.
You can stay in water and enjoy it like a water park always bring back my inner kid out.
On the bottom you can get the full view of fall.
Recommendations -
1. Full day,
2. comfortable clothing
3. Extra pair of clothes
4. Stay hydrated
5. Go down first enjoy the view later come up relax and dip in a water.

The flow of water was quite good it's clear.
But they don't allow people into the water.

Well maintained and guards were there to protect us from entering into dangerous sites. Try to be there during evening time, otherwise the blistering sun will make you tired. Try not to avoid the downward portion of the waterfall, you can see the complete beauty of this waterfall from that position. Take care of small children, some rocks can hurt them.

Majestic- if you visit during the right season and right time. There are various spots, most are pictures ( but a bit dangerous).
If you visit during peak monsoon you shall see a completely different side (some spots remains close due to large volume of waters).
Ideal time to visit would be August- September.

Excellent water fall. During August month it looks like a mini Niagara. Trekking is very challenging towards the water fall. It’s paved, yet not for the feeble. Rs 200 for entry.
Ajith Kumar — Google review
One of my dream place in India. It’s mesmerising. From the entry with vehicle fee you have to pay and park the car beside the road as there is no particular parking. And take the entry ticket again for falls entry. From there it’s just 10-15 walkable distance for top view. Carry water bottle along with you and return the empty bottle in entry as they will give you 10 rupee refund. Enjoy the top view for a while and start trek to the down. If you are aged or handicap or having breathing issue do not take risk and stay in the upside as we need to walk inside the forest around 30 mins in mud. As it’s a orange alert when we enter, they don’t allow us to go near to the water fall. If you visit after February, you can play in the water due to water flow will be less. If you want to see the water flow then best time to visit is from June to December.
You will be lost for a while in nature for sure.

Loved it. The arrangements were all so perfect that would give you a 3 star hotel's feel.
The forest department has been doing a great work.
Only thing that they need to change/arrange is, about the vehicle for safari. Not all the tourist come with an SUV or a off-road drivable vehicle.
So either they need to inform the tourist in advance or they should arrange some vehicle that can be taken off road inside forest.

Amazing experience!
I honestly didn't expect the hospitality, the food or the wilderness experience to be of that level. I was pleasantly surprised at how well curated it all is.
Right from the get go, a guide is assigned to you. This guide will be along with you during the safari, next day's early morning Trek and the bamboo rafting experience.
The guides only speak Tamil or Malayalam but are very knowledgeable and courteous.
The stay- it is well maintained, comfortable and the rooms are huge.
Food- There isn't a restaurant and it isn't A la carte but depending on your preference, they serve really tasty food in a buffet setting.
I am already planning my next trip!🙂

Well maintained stay by forest department. The package includes everything like food, guide, trekking, safari. The rooms are clean. AC and hot water are available. The staffs are mostly local people, and their behavior is so nice. Buffet food is also of good standard.
I heard some random people complaining that the room is not a standard one or don't have a rich look. But please keep in mind that this is in the middle of the forest, and there are no other accomodations available. So, obviously there will be a lot of expense to maintain these limited number of rooms. So, please don't compare this with resort stays.

It was a very good experience to stay in Honey comb.
We were a group of 14 adults and 7 rooms provided. Kids and infants were also there.
Rooms are equipped with AC and Water heaters.
Cleanliness was enough in the aspects of a forest stay, but not to an extent of resort.
Powercuts are usual and they have power backup. But it will run only for 6hours. Please check whether they have enough diesel for whole night while you enter for stay. They cannot arrange at night as no petrol pumps nearby. Otherwise You may have to face powercut in the night. Please carry torch lights as a must.
Only BSNL has coverage in this area and it will not work during powercuts. Wifi is there park entry after that wifi is also not available.
So you will be your own , an experience most of us are missing nowadays.
Mostquitos and other insects were very less, nevertheless carry any repellents.
Place is safe to stay in terms of wildlife movement.
Food was good and safe, staffs also very helpful and they provided all the necessary help for infants like hot water. But again don't expect a resort kind of experience. They have all the shortcomings of a government run facility.
Safari was okeyish type as animal sighting is less compared to Bandipur.
Morning trekking was an excellent experience and we could sight elephants very close and the atmosphere was just awesome.
Boat safari is also really nice, but try to start the safari as early as possible.
Highly recommended if you have kids of growing and learning age. But carry all necessary things like medicines. Small tribal hospital is nearby but for small issues like fever and so on. Or they will shift you to Pollachi in an ambulance.
One more suggestion Tented Niche stay is also good, as they travel back from Parambikulam to anapady in late evening after safari. You have more chances of animal sighting.

Monkey Waterfall is a popular tourist attraction located en route to Valparai forest. The waterfall boasts multiple cascading steps, surrounded by natural pools for swimming and rocks for sunbathing. Picnic areas are also available for visitors to enjoy. Upon arrival, an entry and parking fee is charged with a small temple present at the entrance. Visitors can access the falls within 100 steps but should be aware of the numerous monkeys in the area.
Very good place to enjoy the nature's gift. The place was neatly maintained, had cement steps to reach. Couple of changing rooms were also there.
There is iron rods/barricades installed for safely, but gaps can be little closer done, since it's easy that even big children can get through that.
I found a lot of plastic bottles, diapers etc littered all over the place. The nature's gift is great, the govt has done a decent facilities.
Finally it's upto us/tourists to maintain the beauty of the place. No matter in blaming others for this state. Love nature, save nature.

This is located near pollachi just before going to Valparai. There are dressing rooms and washrooms available for men and women but won’t be clean . The water flow is good during all time not completely dried out. The entry fees has been increased despite having old ticket poster .There is no maintenance but still they collected fees for it. You can get food outside of the monkey falls. The people are allowed to falls from 7am to 4pm .

I recently took a road trip to the Monkey Falls. Once I reached the reserved area, I had to purchase two entry tickets - one for the forest entry and the other for the monkey falls entry. The tickets were reasonably priced. The breathtaking views, the playful monkeys, and the refreshing waterfall make it a perfect destination for a day trip. So, if you're planning your next road trip, don't forget to add this gem to your list. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Wonderful place towards Valparai road, and 6kms distance from aliyar dam. Before entering to this area forest check post is there and we have to pay vehicle and each person amount separately after that in falls area we have to pay separately to enter with or without bath. They are collecting so much amount still some improvements needed in falls area, got urinal smell and dressing rooms should be maintain well. Outside restroom also not good need to maintain some hygiene.

Wow ! This place so nice
Monkey Falls is very close to Pollachi and near Aliyaar dam. It is a famous tourist attraction with a water falls within reach from road and is a safe place except in monsoon time. There is also a small temple. The mountain view is pleasant and is a short stop over in travel to Anaimalai or Vaalpaarai.Good place for bath (provide you have water). It’s a small falls and hence a nice place for kids as well to get wet. If you not planning to get wet, you can skip it as the view as such is not any great. Plus, while travelling from polachi, this comes after the police check post and need to pay to cross over. Closes by 4pm by rule.It is really nice to have a bath at this falls. The place is mostly crowded. Though the facility to change dress for ladies is a minimum still, people enjoy having a bath in this fall. Just be careful of the slippery rocks. Kids can also enjoy in the shallow water below the falls.Monkey Falls is very close to Pollachi and near Aliyaar dam. How is it? : Except the water level, the falls is good.
Trekking level: A very very small trekking like 20-30 steps from the parking. The falls is roughly around 200 mtrs from parking.
For friends: Friends group can enjoy, but there could be some disappointments in water level.
For families: It is very safe for families.
Recommended time to Bath: 7-8AM is the perfect time. You can bath freely. There won’t be any crowd.
Fact: The name only is Monkey falls but you can rarely see monkeys.

So, depends upon our luck.

Better go in chilling weather & a little bit of rain or else the falls get dry.

Large park offering gardens, playgrounds & picnic areas beside a dam with water & mountain views.
Park was maintained well. And entrance fee of 5₹ is so fair. Children playing areas are just AWESOME. There are lot of games inside the park. Govt approved fish stall is very near. And taste of the fishes are so yummy. There’s a canal inside the park and that was eye catching view point. And sitting tiles are there for sit and enjoy the quality with your loved once.

Many water games also available. But most of them are under maintenance. Children can enjoy the toy train rides and other games. Navigation boards must be placed for the tourists. Cleanliness should be improved. Overall average maintenance with good scenic views around.

Not a great fan of play parks but indeed will be the best for the kids to play around. The highlight of this park was the long staircase up to the dam road from where one can see the view of the entire reservoir. The misty huge mountains gave us the feel of the Jurassic park. 😂 There is a small stream flowing through the park which dried up when we went there. The entry fee is 10 /- and 5/- for the mobile camera.

One of the main tourist place in Pollachi. Big and vast park but very poor maintenance. Only recommended to visit in evening time because the park lacks good shades to rest. Didn't climb up to see the dam view that seemed not worth in that time. No special parking area and have to park in the roadside which have good shades but along with a parking fee. Area is good for refreshments and good foods available nearby.

* Relaxing atmosphere: The park offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Enjoy stunning views, breathe in fresh air, and unwind amidst nature's beauty.
* Boating: Take a boat ride on the reservoir to experience the tranquility of the waters from a different perspective.
* Family fun: The park has a children's play area with swings, slides, and other equipment, making it a great spot for a family outing.
* Picnic areas: Pack your lunch and enjoy a delightful picnic surrounded by nature.
# Keep in mind the park's amenities could be improved.

Nice park with dam water view and entrance fee is comparatively less.
Rs.5/- and Rs.20/- for mobile.
Few games are available in park but we have to pay separately for those and that amount also comparatively less.
Many places inside garden or park to sit and chill out.
But maintenance is not done properly if they do so then everything will be perfect here.
Be prepared to climb ~50 to 100 steps to see the beautiful view of the dam.

Nice place for family and couples. You must go in the morning or in the evening because of the hot atmosphere. You would find very calm and quiet place there to enjoy with your family and loved ones. There is some restaurants on the opposite side of the ticket counter where you can get some delicious fish fries on demand.
In addition, we can see breathtaking view of Aliyar dam on the way to Valparai. We can see the reservoir on each hairpin of the Valparai route. This route is awesome with lots of trees and scenes.

Though it could be better maintained, the park attached to the dam is an attraction for many.
The walk through the park and on the dam are an opportunity for a workout.
Carry enough drinking water with you.
There’s an opportunity for a nice boat ride on the dam backwaters.
Car parking is mostly along the street side.
Very limited eateries on the site.

We,the friend visited this park it's good drive from coimbatore and good place for family and friends. Small rides for children. The view from the dam is amazing.Park is situated nearby dam and locationwise very nice place. It is on the way to Valparai from Pollachi. We enjoyed the park with family and friends. Children will enjoy the park which is more spacious. Earlier years film shooting taken here. Needs further improvement and maintenance. This place is a good getaway with family or friends.. especially in the evening time. They have an entry fee and the garden is just okay (not maintained properly).. but when you take the stairs (many stairs - not recommended for people with knee problem or old age) the scene is beautiful.Children's can enjoy this place. Don't miss the boating. At the time of my visit, There was only one boat and waited for almost 45 mins to get my chance. You will enjoy this 15 - 20 min ride. Better to visit early in the morning or late in the evening. Check timings before you visit this place and plan accordingly. They charge you Rs. 25 at entrance (Entrance + Mobile phone Camera). When you enter you will see broken fountains, non functioning lights, Plastic bottles ridden canal, food paper plates thrown all over, stinking and unclean toilets, Garbage and stench all over.
Then you will find 180 steps to climb to the top of the reservoir and then its bliss. Beautiful sight of water against 180 degree mountain backdrop. Perfect for taking great photos.
If only the Holy TN govt cares for Tourism or Tourist sites, places like Azhiyar will be become true gem of a place to visit and picnic until then forget Azhiyar and its disgusting, disease causing stench.
Looks like Local Hoteliers and traders have no clue on how tourism can enhance their business as they seldom protest the disgusting maintenance of the park with the PWD department.

A big complex of three core temples, and many other shrines around it on a large park on top of a scenic hillock. Shiva as Vadakkunnathan is the primary deity and He faces west here. He is in the form of a linga manifested by layers of solid Ghee. Hood of a multiheaded Cobra hovers over Him. When the deity is decorated with gold cladding, the sight is so beautiful and divine.
Right behind this sanctum is the shrine of Parvathi, Shiva's consort, facing east. Very beautiful looking deity.
Next shrine is for Ganapathi, facing east. Next big shrine is for Shankarnarayana, a dual image of Shiva and Vishnu. The left half of the idol is female depicting Vishnu as Mohini. This beautiful deity faces west.
The third big shrine is for Sri Rama, standing majestically with His bow on His left hand.
Outside this main temple, around it on the parikrama, there are shrines for Krishna, Ayyappa, Parasurama, Adhi Shakara and many more. The walkway around the temple, by itself is a very pleasant one.

The festival falls on the first day of the month of Karkkidakam (timed against the Malayalam calendar), which coincides with the month of July. It has been the regular annual practice at the temple for the last 20 years to conduct a large-scale Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathy Havana and Aanayoottu on the first day of the Karkidakom month of the Malayalam calendar. The Pothundi Dam is a 19th-century structure made of earth that serves as a barrier to retain water, creating a reservoir used for both fishing and irrigation purposes. Next to Him, we have an equally beautiful MahaVishnu shrine. The butter cladding done on him presents an awesome look of the Lord. Reminding us of Guruvayoorappan himself.
When we go around the outer parikrama, there is a Bhagavatha temple on the northwest corner. She looks so beautiful in her gold cladding that one stays rooted looking at her awesome face.
Legend has that Sri Mahadeva offered the place where presently Sri Guruvayoorappan is installed and moved over here when Vayu and Guru bhagawan brought Sri Krishna's idol from Dwaraka.

.
An amazing temple of Mahadev with comparatively lesser crowd than Guruvayur.
.
This is the place where Mahadev shifted along with Parvati Mata, after the Guruvayur (original place of Mahadev/Parvati) was given for keeping VISHNU's Idol (this idol Krishna & Family worshipped in Dwarka but after Dwarka destroyed it was brought in Guruvayur).
.
Due to this, it is said that, visit of Guruvayur is incomplete without the darshan of Mammiyoor Temple.

Its a good and big temple. Usually not so crowded so you can darshna easily.
Follow the mandir timings so you don't need to wait more.

Divine Temple of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Very serene and positive vibration the minute you enter the temple premises. Though there was rush when we visited, the authorities swiftly managed the crowd. Don't forget to visit Bhagvathi Temple as well, which is located behind this temple. Car parking is available slightly ahead of the temple.. Must visit Temple if you are visiting Guruvayur Temple

Away from all rush and push of guruvayoor temple very nicely you can attain peace of mind here . A very good entry point with natural cover.

It's a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at Mamiyur, which is 1 KM from Guruvayur. Lord Shiva has given the land or space for the Lord Krishna when Devathas Vayu and Prahaspathi approached him to install Lord Krishna. Uthava has obtained Lord Krishna's Vigraha when Dwaraka is submerged, Uthava handed over to Devathas Vayu and Prahaspathi. It's a must visit temple, and it has a parking facility on the sides. Temple has Sub Shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Lord Krishna, Lord Murugan, and Sastha. It also has a Sarpa kavu and temple for Bagavati (if I am right). Those who visit Guruvayur must visit this temple is mythology. However, you have one place at Guruvayur temple, where you can stand and worship Lord Shiva as an alternate. Well maintained temple.

Punnathur Kotta is an elephant sanctuary located in the 10-acre land of Guruvayoor devaswom, known for housing around 60 elephants. This training and grooming center dedicated to elephants is situated in Thrissur, about 22 km from the city center. The sprawling 11.5 acres of green foliage surrounding this park make it a prime attraction for visitors who want to watch these majestic animals being bathed and fed.
It was a wonderful visit. There was countless elephants there. Keep a safe distance from elephants while taking photographs. There are guards we cannot fed them. The ticket charge for adults is ₹30 and ₹20 for children. There is a small store you can have tea snacks and ice cream. Good to go with children with your own risk.

It's a great place to roam around and to check out the habitants of elephant. The entry is charged at Rs 20 for an adult and even for using the mobile phone camera one has to pay a fee of Rs.25. Got ample parking space.
But it felt pretty strange when I saw those beautiful mammals being tied up and kind of enslaved. They also deserve to live in this world peacefully. Some of those animals looked very sick as well.
Abilash Sankar — Google review
This is one beautiful place with all these elephants around so close. You'd be amazed to see how dominating man could get looking at these mighty animals chained up.
I do not understand how to describe the feeling.
First time in life, so many elephants in 45 minutes however this wasn't what I had imagined.
I thought they'd be left open with a barricade. Nope! They are chained. You need to go by yourself or educate the others that the elephants need not be disturbed.. It's worth the visit I sure would recommend only if it's not stressing the elephants. It is so sad to see them chained up to all four legs I wish it was different. There are people maintaining it. I saw them feed and give water to the elephants. I did not try to speak to any of the attendants as I was busy watching the elephants. From thrissur if you take a cab 7 seater it should cost you rs 2000 return to the station. 100 by local bus up and down.
There are camera charges too, be nice and pay for your camera. If it supports the animal please pay for your tickets.

One of the most enjoyable experiences in and around Guruvayoor is visiting the elephants. During our visit, we were delighted to find more than 30 well-maintained elephants, each taken care of with great attention.
A fun fact about these elephants is that they perform tricks and display their happiness when interacting with people. It truly adds to the joy of the experience.
In general, this visit offers a delightful and entertaining time. The place is kept clean, making it suitable for families with children. You can easily obtain an entry pass at the counter, with a fee of Rs 20 for adults. Additionally, there is ample car parking available, ensuring convenience for visitors.
Although there are no food options on-site, you are welcome to bring your own food without any issues.

If you're visiting Guruvayoor you shouldn't miss this place. Looks like a paradise for elephants closer to nature. You can walk around and see many elephants here. The place is rich with trees so in hot weather if you wish to go out, This will be a great option.

I was here to see Elephants. There used to be 67+ elephants and now it has reduced to 40+. There's a paid parking lot and there's an entrance fee, for adults it's Rs. 20/- and kids it's Rs. 15. You can walk around as every elephant is placed separately, next to each other and it's spread across the property. It seems like the kingdom of Kozhikode Samudri King. It was open earlier for the public to visit inside the palace but it seems COVID changed that, and now there's no entry. However, it was good to go around and see the Elephants and their mischiefs. It's good to go on a weekday as there's not much rush.

This is a very nice place to visit with kids, you can see lots of elephants in one place.
This place can improve a lot by providing a small recreation spot and play area for kids. I hardly find any place to sit. Provide the description of the elephants in the Kotta, utilise one of the building to develop an elephant museum. Showcase there lifestyle create videos and documentaries to showcase in Facility. This will give a unique experience to visitors

A well maintained place dedicated to elephants only. It includes food, shelter, medical facilities, training of elephants.
It is said that around 54 elephants are present in this facility and are taken to the Guruvayur temple during puja only
No one is allowed to ride and touch these elephants and provide food. If you want to feed them then you have to buy fruits and vegetables from the center at this location only. Must visit place as you will see many such things live that elephant does that you may have seen on TV only. Like eating, training, bathing, walking etc.

Entry is Rs.20 per person. For camera Rs.25 is charged. Car parking is Rs.30.

I had the privilege of visiting this elephant enclosure in Kerala, and it was an awe-inspiring experience. From the moment I entered, I could sense the deep respect and care the staff had for these majestic creatures. The enclosure was spacious and well-maintained, providing a natural and comfortable environment for the elephants.
What truly made this visit exceptional was the opportunity to learn about the elephants’ history, daily routines, and conservation efforts. The knowledgeable guides shared fascinating insights into the lives of these magnificent animals, which deepened my appreciation for their role in Kerala’s culture and heritage.
I was also fortunate to witness a feeding session, where I observed the elephants up close. It was a heartwarming experience to see them enjoy their meals, and it left me with a sense of wonder and respect for these gentle giants.
The highlight of the visit was definitely the chance to interact with the elephants. I had the opportunity to feed them, and it was a surreal and unforgettable moment. The staff ensured that the interaction was safe for both visitors and elephants, prioritizing the animals’ well-being.
Overall, my visit to the elephant enclosure in Kerala was not only a memorable experience but also an educational one. It left me with a profound appreciation for these magnificent creatures and the dedicated efforts of those working to protect them. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Kerala.

The place was clean and reasonably well kept. There were many elephants standing at various places eating or just simply standing. After the first few elephants we realized that all elephants were chained in 2 legs and some had chains on 3 legs. This is seriously inhumane. These are gentle giants that normally walk 20-30km a day in the forests being forced to stand in the same spot for hours. Few of them had severe chaffing on their legs having been chained tight with very little slack for movement.
We can totally understand the frustration such treatment can cause, forcing them to act up occasionally.
Our expectation that these animals would be treated better for they carry the gods on their backs was completely squashed. We returned sad and with an uneasy feeling in our stomach.
