We quickly stopped by here for breakfast. The shop is lovely and has a lot of unique and beautiful gifts/ souvenirs to buy. We will be coming back for the tour to see the cheetahs 😉

Our tour guide was well informed and shared a wealth of interesting information on the animals in their care. The shop is an experience in itself and the food is good and priced for locals. In fact nothing is priced at the inflated tourist rates. Worth the visit.

Lovely place to visit ,very interesting things to see, friendly staff, delicious food to eat,and cheetahs and wild animals to see.Clean restrooms,a must visit

An undiscovered jewel in the Eastern Cape! A small farm “dorpie” with a friendly and chilled environment.
Admission charge very reasonable and The shop had some awesome pies and refreshment snacks as well as plenty of beautiful hand made curios and they were really at give away prices!
Our guide, Jandré was very informative, both in terms of highlighting an animal’s history but also explaining why they do and don’t do things. The kiddies loved the play area and petty farm with all the various animals
Such important work is being done here to maintain the endangered cat species.
I would definitely recommend this experience day trip if you in the area. It’s only about 70km east drive from Nelson Mandela Bay. Definitely worth the drive!

Charming padstal. Much to offer. Pricing is surprisingly affordable. Delicious biltong. Bathroom cleanliness was okay.

Very friendly staff. Thank you for helping us to get to PE.
But honestly I feel sorry to the cats, seems like they are trapped.
I hope they have a bigger space. However, nice place to stop

We’ve been to the location last minute as our host recommended it to us and it was totally worth it. A great tour by a young tour guide who gave us a lot of background info about the animals and their story. You can see cheetahs, hyenas, meerkats and more. Definitely recommended!

We really enjoyed the tour, it was very interesting to learn different facts about the wild cats! The craft shop is wonderful too, we bought quite a few gifts for family & friends, thank you!

Lovely indoor and outdoor eating areas. Food was taste, rustic serving plated on boards.

Enjoyed the guided tour. Entrance fee for adults was R90 at the time. Well worth it to see cheetahs, meerkat, lions, leopards, hyenas and more.

Very informative and Jandre the guide is very passionate on what he does with the animals. We learned a lot on our visit. Keep up the good work.
Chris took us out for the Sundowners cruise. It was such a pleasure from the booking experience to the sunset view. We went out on a bad weather day but Chris found places that were sheltered so we could take in the views. We even got to climb the sand dunes which was a bonus I was not expecting. There's no bathroom on the boat but there are facilities at the start point in Colchester. I will try the sandboarding next time I'm in town.

We had a wonderful 4hr afternoon safari with our knowledgeable and courteous guide, Steven at Addo Elephant Park. You can self drive around the park but you in no way appreciate all this area has to offer and see far fewer animals. In my opinion our experience was enhanced by Steven's expert eyes. Refreshments are provided and Steven made sure we saw lots of elephants, zebra, ostriches, leopard tortoise, birds, warthogs and mongoose. Never felt rushed and felt the trip was well organised and safe. Thoroughly recommend.

Delighted with our Quad bike tour though the citrus orchards, and to see the beautiful Sundays River with its astonishing array of bird life. We even enjoyed some history about the area. Definitely should be on the top of your list if you are in the area. Thank - you Chris, my son loved it too! We really do hope to do a family sand-boarding trip with you sometime.

We booked the all-day Addo Elephant Park Tour, and so glad we did! Our guide Gibson was a font of information, and proved to be an excellent host for the day. He kindly and patiently answered all our questions, never made us feel stupid, yet was comfortable in correcting our occasional mistake, like a true teacher. The braai lunch was delicious, and we greatly appreciated the interesting vegetarian option that we had requested. While we might well have seen some of the animals if we had done a self-drive, we wouldn't have had a clue about what was going on. Big thanks to Gibson and Crisscross for making this day an absolute highlight of our vacation in South Africa.

We had an amazing safari with Densely! He was super knowledgeable about the landscape and animals. Highly recommend booking a full day safari guide with them!

Lots of fun enjoying the sandboarding. The boat ride was great with all the sights and interesting insights.
All the equipment supplied is well looked after and the family never felt unsafe using it.

We had a very great moment at Crisscross Adventures. The 1 hour quad bike drive left us satisfied and wanted to experience more fun with the most welcoming and friendly staff they have. Our tour guide was super cautious, friendly, and kind. he never got tired of taking us pictures and he was so patient with us.
Thank you guys for the great experience. We enjoyed😊

We had a fantastic time on our full day safari of Addo national park! Our guide, Densley, was so knowledgeable about the park, the animals, the landscape. He truly went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience, pointing out animals that were tucked away and keeping our animal interests at heart!! We were very lucky to have gotten to see some spectacular wildlife, hyena, lions, elephants, zebra and many more - and got some delicious braai lunch to add. If you are looking for an amazing experience - I highly recommend!!
Madison Taylor — Google review
Crisscross is simply great! We had a wonderful 1.5 days with our guide Donald. He was fantastic. We learnt a lot about all the animals and also about life in South Africa. We are over the moon because we saw elephants, white and black rhinos, a hippo, two lionesses and a lion, a crocodile, warthogs, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, a tortoise and many kudus, antelopes etc. On the half-day canoe tour we also saw lots of birds. We can recommend Crisscross 100 per cent and send a big thank you to Donald.
Katja Friedrich — Google review
I recommend avoiding this establishment as necessary safety checks were not done on their equipment, which is very risky. We did the quad biking experience which takes you on a pretty slow ride through the lemon orchards. Top speed 30kmph, through the orchards. It's not exactly an adventure, and would be great for kids if you're not too concerned about the safety of the bikes. While riding their quad bike, the wheels buckled landing me in a tree. The bike was faulty to begin with as the wheel alignment was out. Later, after going over a bumpy part of the road, a nut fell out and the wheels collapsed inwards. The guide made a temporary fix on the bike so that we could take it back to the main area, but we had to cut down the ride time and drive really slowly to avoid further damage. It's certainly not an adventure and it's definitely unsafe.
UPDATE: Well the owners admission and the photos speak for themselves. It's not about when the bolt came out (95% though the trip or not). It's about the fact that the bolt came out, and clearly the bike was not safe.

Crisscross Adventures is an amazing adventure place in Addo. I called them just before closing time and they were able to accommodate me the following day with quad biking. The booking was effortlessly and confirmation was done immediately. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Our tour guide was awesome, super friendly, kind, cautious and kept checking if we are okay. We had lots of questions and he had all the answers.
I would definitely recommend using their services on your next adventure trip in Addo. They offer a wide range of activities including trips into Addo National Park, full day and half day.
P.S we were running late from another tour 45mins away and Crisscross stuff were very accommodating and professional in handling our delay. Thank you for the kindness and obviously 2hrs of fun!

Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve, located near Addo Elephant National Park, offers an unforgettable safari experience. As the oldest private game reserve in South Africa's Eastern Cape, it boasts a diverse range of wildlife including lions, rhinos, and elephants. The stunning landscapes provide a picturesque backdrop for observing over 40 mammal species in their natural habitat.
Amazing, very impressive and extremely recommended! The entire location is well organised, service, support and rangers are extremely good. And the various drives are perfect!
We had the chance to see all Big 5!
The accommodations were also very comfortable, try to take advantage of this too, to get a better understanding of the impressions. And the night sky!

Jenny, Peter and the team make sure that you will have the most wonderful safari experience in South Africa.
From the reservation, organizing, information received until the good bye wave all is taken care of hands on and family run by a dedicated team.
I travelled alone and my choice was the two nights combined Schotia Tooth & Claw Safari with a tour in Addo and the sea cruise. After I arrived at Schotia Headquarters, checked in my overnight luggage tea/coffee/ juice/water and cookies were served. I shared my safari vehicle with three visitors from overseas and our guide was Charl. He lives at Schotia and he has a vast knowledge of the area, the animals, the plants and vegetation, the people and the environment. It was a privilege for me to listen to his stories and ask him numerous questions. He made the game drives informative and fun.
We left in an open safari vehicle and drove leisurely before stopping for a tea break at the lapa. We continued and were very fortunate to spot all the animals during those two drives.
Back to the thatched roof lapa for a refreshing beverage while we connected with the other guests, team members and guides sitting around an open fire. Not long after we were called to pick up dinner plates and were served our food. Choices included lamb, chicken,
potatoes, pumpkin, mixed vegetable, rice. The vegetarians and vegans were catered for as well. Last but definitely not least, the most iconic South African dessert, malva pudding is served with custard and you should not miss it.
Afterwards it’s off to a night drive through the game reserve which ended with arriving at my lovely and cosy bush cottage. The lions were roaring during the night and it is very special to experience this live. I slept like a baby, images of elephants, hippo and giraffes dotting my dreams
After an early morning tea at the patio watching the Moon with Venus and Pluto aligned in the sky followed by a stunning sunrise and listening to the different sounds of birds, I was picked up and after a short safari drive was driven to my car at Headquarters. From here I went to the harbour in Port Elizabeth for an Ocean Safari in Algoa Bay. Jenny organized for me to go with Raggy Charters, a marine eco tour company.
Afterwards I headed back and stopped for lunch at Nanaga farmstall as recommended by Jenny.
And just like that it was time for another game drive with Charl. After our coffee break he did show me an invader that only infects prickly pear
cacti and ants that live inside the thorns of one of the acacia bushes and how they hollow it out. We saw a female lion on a hunt which went unsuccessful for her. The lucky warthog.
The night drive after our delicious dinner was equally spectacular and it ended in front of my cottage.
A short morning drive and I had to say goodbye to Charl. He drove me to headquarters where Justin was waiting for me for a safari in Addo Elephant park, also organized by Jenny.
One can self-drive through Addo but I wanted a guided tour to give me the opportunity to take photographs of the animals.
He drove me back to my car and I had to say goodbye to Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve and the people.
It is an enormous private reserve and the Bean Family and the staff members are in preserving and educating valuable wild life in South Africa in harmony with the neighbouring park, farms and settlements.
Charl and the others are brilliant guides and I am convinced that everyone visiting Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve will have the same experience. Thank you Schotia for an unforgettable experience.

Absolutely recommended. The place is prepared for tourists, the guides are knowledgeable, safe and passionate about their work. The vehicles are in very good condition. The property consists of several hectares with subdivisions, the landscape is fabulous. Various types of serfs and antelopes, elephants, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, lions, crocodiles, and more are seen. Plus, dinner is a beautiful time and a nice place in the middle of the countryside. The visit without camping is from 3 to 9 p.m. with dinner included and costs USD$135. It is highly recommended.

Wow! What an amazing trip we had with Schotia, the private park has all the animals you want to see and more! We stayed overnight in the tents, woke up next to rhinos, what an experience. Special shout-out to walking Wikipedia Scott, our tour guide!

What an amazing experience!! We were absolutely stunned how many animals
you are able to see, and so close! Zane our Ranger took us along three game drives and shared his deep knowledge about ALL animals we saw, he also has a great sense of humor which made the safari even more entertaining. He also shared some more background on the country itself which was very interesting to hear as well.
Make sure to book an overnight stay, the tented camps are a blast, a night we won’t forget anytime soon.
If you are in the Addo area, make sure to visit Schotia!!
Pro Tip: Make sure to visit Addo National Park first, do some self driving which is also amazing! Then add a day at Schotia to be even more impressed :)

Had an excellent time here. Saw all the animals I could have hoped for. Accommodation is fine. Even saw a near-succesfull lion hunt. Beautiful and educational.
You do have to get used to lions standing next to your feet but apparently it's completely safe and the big Magnum gun is just there for show ;-)

Please read my review before heading down.
If you are just doing Tooth&Claw safari tour with them, you will need to check in at 2.30pm. Guided drive will commence from 3pm to 5pm. There will be pit stop for refreshment and toilet stop. Then the tour continues to 7pm. After which, you will be brought to a hut within the huge safari where you will be warmed up round the fires with limited free drinks and a lovely home cooked dinner served with dessert before heading back to their
office at 8.45pm
If you are staying over with them at their beautifully decorated huts, the sleep over package will include activities as mentioned above AND a night drive to your accommodation. There will be another round of 1.5 hour guided tour around the safari the next morning before heading out to a nearby restaurant for breakfast.
We were privileged to have Edward as our guide. He managed to bring us up close and personal to many animals and the most important one of all - Lions! 🦁
Before Schotia, we had gone to 4 other nature parks including the famous Kruger Park. Zero lions spotted!
Edward is hilarious and very experienced. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars for him!

Thanks to the tip from Wayne of the Addo Riverside Villa, we chose the safari in the evening and night back to the base included with a delicious dinner.
We had Fontaine as ranger/leader and we loved his dedication for the animals and nature. We felt very comfortable and safe and learned a lot about flora and fauna.
We definetely come back and totally recommend the tour because chances are higher to see the animals.
We preferred the Schotia Safari to the Addo but thats personal choice for sure
Of course the other rangers were great as well.
See ya!
Greetings,
Sharina and Lars❤️

We had a very nice time in Schotia! It is a paradise for photographers and you will see a lot of wild animals. All the staff and guides were so friendly and welcoming. Our guide Charl was so nice and full of knowledge! You will experience a lot and get know about wildlife.
There is a dinner included in tour and it is served in a really lovely communal area.
Thank you so much!

It was a breathtaking experience. We had a very nice, funny and incredibly dedicated local guide called Charl who showed us lions, zebras, antelopes, rhinos, hippos, giraffes and many other animals. He also gave us very interesting informations and was able to answer all our questions about the landscape and the animals in detail. The highlight for us was being able to see a lion family with their 1-month-old baby.
The Schotia-Team respectfully kept distance from the animals and asked us to be quiet as soon as we get near them.
We can highly recommend the tour and would book it again every time.

We had the most wonderful stay at Schotia!
All of the staff and guides were so friendly and welcoming. Our guide Roger was so knowledgable! He answered all of our questions and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time and saw lots of wildlife.
We stayed in tented accommodation, which was incredible. The tents and bathroom were clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. It was so nice to spend the evening in the wilderness with no electricity watching the stars and listening to the peaceful sounds of nature.
The food was so delicious and served in a really lovely communal area.
We cannot recommend this place enough!! We hope to visit again soon 😊

Amazing safari experience. We were lucky enough to see elphants and lions up close multiple times, and even witnessed a lioness hunt and catch a warthog. We saw every animal we expected to see and many more! It was incredible to see them in the wild. We also stayed in the tented accommodation where we heard buffalo and zebra through the night. Our guide Fontaine was amazing, so knowledgeable and dedicated! Highly recommend Schotia for a safari experience.

What a fantastic experience. We did it as a family of 4. 2 adults, 13yo & 9yo. The kids absolutely loved it. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable & very safety conscious. The hike to the launch platform was a little tough for us, who are not very fit but was a breeze for the kids with awesome views of the orchards surrounding Addo. Also got a glimpse of the final resting place of Sir Percy Fitzpatrick! Zipline itself was all adrenaline. What a rush!

Addo Elephant National Park is the 3rd largest national park in the country, boasting a diverse range of wildlife including hundreds of elephants, as well as lions and black rhinos. Situated in a malaria-free area, the park offers numerous opportunities for game viewing and outdoor adventure. Visitors can stay in cabins and participate in self-guided or guided sunrise and sunset drives. The park also features an underground lookout where visitors may witness hyenas on a kill.
What a very beautiful experience! We saw good veriety of animals including the beautiful Elephants. The shop had a good veriety of whatever you may need. San parks are doing a Great fantastic job! Keep up the great work! Thanks you very much for a wonderful experience!!

Perfect to see lots of Elephants and Zebras very close. The paths are very good so you can self-drive also without a SUV. You should spend here at least 2-3 hours. But also a whole day is possible without getting bored. There is a nice restaurant for lunch at the entrance.
Micha Hees — Google review
We stayed 5 nights in Addo Main Camp and thoroughly enjoyed watching the elephants interact with each other and also the human visitors. The elephants are very calm among humans - but at all like the Kruger National Park elephants. We saw jackal, meerkat, buffalo, kudu, warthogs, zebra, fish eagle, pale chanting goshawks, red hartebeest. We stayed in chalet number 20 which had beautiful unobstructed views of the landscape and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the elephants and zebra stroll past. We could hear the jackals and hyenas at night. We booked an early morning game drive as well as a night drive. Both are 2 hour game drives.
There is a Cattle Baron restaurant at Main Camp - we enjoyed the food.
Laundry facilities behind the reception area - but tokens from reception.
The downside was that load shedding was a problem as the chalets were not equipped with any decent battery lamps- so make sure to take your own lamps and head torches. . Sanparks chalets are not very well equipped for self catering. There is a microwave but hardly any microwavable cookware. Serving dishes are also non existent.
The units are serviced daily- they do wash the dishes and the braai facility gets cleaned everyday. Information about the Reserve was sorely lacking (ie, information about laundry ) .
Definitely worth a visit especially if you love elephants.

What a great surprise, clean, organised and super friendly, committed and dedicated staff. And the park itself is FULL of animals, we saw lots of elephants (one encounter was a touch too close), kudu, eland, buffalo, jackal, warthog, zebra, and a plethora of birdlife. The picnic (braai areas) are neat and well maintained. A great day out! All the photos are taken with the phone, so some are not as great as they could be...
Jonathan Diederiks — Google review
One of the places you really must visit in South Africa. The third largest national park in the country.
Seeing the elephants is really something special. There are a lot of them in the park (700) and they move around in different places, so you can see them in different places and quite unexpectedly.
The park itself is really huge and only holds animals that are native to the area.
You drive your own car through the park, the roads are in fairly good condition even for small cars.
Marek Sedlák — Google review
Living less than an hour away from this magnificent wild area is such a privilege. was have stayed over several times, but just going for a drive through the park is very worthwhile. Such a selection of wildlife, from tiny birds to the mighty elephants.
Leslie Clemence PE — Google review
The cabin we stayed in was beautifully clean. The best in all the National Parks I have been too,and the shop was well stocked But reception needs to improve service as there were queues of people waiting to check in ( and one staff member was sitting looking at her cell phone)Also I phoned Addo 12 times ( using the website phone number) and the phone call was cut dead or not answered😡
Also, can one imagine , in a place where people go for peace and quiet there was a raucous event party one night with a loud band. Inexcusable in a game reserve
Lynette Morris-Hale — Google review
We only did the Addo coast trail from Cannon rocks to the start of the dune field. The trail is very easy to walk, and the places where stairs and logs have been placed to ease the route, they are starting to deteriorate. All in all remains a favorite, as you come back along the beach.
Terrence Crous — Google review
Do not hesitate to visit Addo. We have visited many times over the years and are never disappointed. If you have limited time hire a guide. They are affordable, personable, knowledgeable and will greatly improve your experience. In three hours on our last visit we saw 6 elephant groups up close, Buffalo, black jackal and others. Awesome.

Great sightings of spotted hyena and 3 lioness on kill. Park very green after good rains. Zebras, Hartebees, warthog in plenty supply and good selection of birds.
Gloria Ann Searle — Google review
Beautiful game reserve. Check in and entry payment was quite quick. You are provided a map and there is also a sightings board. The entire park is well signed and it's very easy to navigate around. We saw elephants, jackals, Kudu, warthogs, and zebras. Because of the size of the park, we were able to navigate around very quickly and ended up not even needing to spend a full day here, although you definitely could. If you are close by, definitely come! Note that you do need your passport number for entry.

Large variety of wildlife, well kept camps and easy driving. The roads, both tar and dirt, are well maintained.
The main camp was a great stop for a cold beer and refreshments. The water hole below the main camp was full of wildlife and an experience.
A beautiful weekend and lots of great sightings.

Stayed at the cabin. Two self drives and sunrise and sunset guided drives. Sightings of Elephants were amazing. Highlight was visiting the underground lookout at 5.30 am and witnessing a hyena on a kill. Dream come true 👍

Not too big, the overnight stay is interesting because the night sound of the jungle and an early morning drive. A lot of animals can be seen in nearest distance. Accommodation comfortable enough.
Good to reach from the N2.

I wouldn't ever go back no animals food poisoning absolutely rubbish save yourself the trouble and give it a miss. As for the guides they didn't have a clue the excursions are over priced and was told in 40000 heaters they only have 3 lions you'll be extremely lucky to see anything other the the contents of your stomach (if you have eaten there) would also stay away from the bare foot elephant lodge unless you enjoyed the tiger King Tracy exotic would be happy to mess up your holiday

Lion, Elephant, and Zebra paradise. We saw dozens of elephants and a male lion chilling a few feet from the road. The elephants were curious and crossed feet from the vehicle. The mongoose was cute, perched on its rear legs.
Facilities are good. Bathroom in the middle of the park and at the entrances. The restaurant @ the main lodge serves a good veggie omelette.
Please turn off your motor when you stop to see the animals!

On my third visit to South Africa, my boyfriend and I decided to explore Addo, a place known for its diverse wildlife. Having previously encountered a variety of animals, the one species that had eluded us were elephants. So, while we were staying in Jeffrey’s Bay, we made it a point to visit on 12 August 2023.
Upon arriving at the entrance, we paid 468 rand for both of us and were handed a map to navigate through the expansive area. The drive itself was an adventure, lasting about three hours. We took our time, capturing photos and videos, and making occasional stops to admire the animals. It's quite a sight to see them casually strolling along the road, necessitating intermittent pauses. There was even a friendly competition between my boyfriend and me to see who could spot the most creatures!
One important tip for visitors is to ensure you have your driver’s license handy, as it's required at the entrance. The security measures are stringent, but they're in place to protect both visitors and the wildlife.
During our drive, we were treated to sightings of warthogs, elegant zebras, and the majestic elephants, some of which were incredibly large. My boyfriend was particularly awed by one especially grand elephant; he mentioned it was the largest he'd ever seen.
It’s important to note that throughout the drive, you're strictly prohibited from leaving your vehicle. This rule is in place to maintain a safe and respectful environment for both visitors and the animals.
After the exhilarating drive, we headed to the on-site restaurant and explored a charming small museum. It was a perfect way to wrap up our unforgettable Addo experience.
Side note: If it's summer, it gets very hot so it's so nice to have a bucket with some cook drinks during the drive. You'll thank me for this.

We did our first visit to Addo Jul 2023, long overdue. The Park did not disappoint, the landscape varies from area to area. Around each corner giving a little of its beauty. We stayed at main camp in the Forrest Cabins. Comfortable and had all we needed. They(staff at reception) warned us about possible water problems, but we did not experience any problems. Camp has a generator, so load-shedding not a problem. The shop and restaurant were great. Some of the gravel roads had just been graded, others gave a nice African massage. Very green. Main camp having some construction but did not bother us, its part of the ongoing improving of facilities. From one of the eastern areas of the park you can see the Indian Ocean. The signpost in the park are great, numbered so you can see where you are on the park map. Will be back

We are currently in Addo. Wonderful. Main camp superb. The gravel roads need a lot of attention. Serious potholes. But much less hectic than Etosha.
Gerard Norris — Google review
We recently spent two nights in a Safari Tent at the park.
The park itself is fantastic, but there are areas that require attention. Due to recent rains and reduced maintenance, the non-tarred roads have deteriorated and need improvement for a smoother experience for vehicles not designed for off-road conditions. This aspect was better managed in the past.
The facilities at the main camp are adequate but could benefit from upgrades, especially considering the current rates. The bed in our tent was exceptionally comfortable and clean. However, the rest of the tent showed signs of mildew, and the furniture lacked functionality and creative design. The refrigerator, although loud, functioned well, and the air conditioning unit seemed fine (though we didn't need to use it). The views from the tent were spectacular.
Overall, there's a concerning sense that insufficient investment is being made in the facilities, upkeep, and maintenance. Attention to detail seems lacking, as evidenced by unattended issues like burnt-out light bulbs, broken locks on some toilet doors, and a section of the fence in the hide area becoming hazardously inclined.
The absence of proactive local operations management is noticeable, despite the presence of sufficient staff. This situation appears to reinforce the perception of inadequate reinvestment in the park's overall upkeep and guest experience.

The park is worth a visit. Good for a one day visit. No more. My reference is the Kruger National Park which is on a totally different level.

🐘 In a nutshell: come here for elephants (loads), zebras, pumbas, birds and other small animals. Don't come if you insist on seeing all the big 5. Lions are out rarely. It's called Elephant National Park after all ...
Then you will be extremely fulfilled and leave as a happy animal lover.
Some useful information:
1) you may come in with your own car (4x4 preferred but not entirely necessary), but likely you will see far less animals.
2) we arrived with our amazing driver and guide Saul - and he made this day special pointing out so many animals we would have never seen and could provide so much background information. Really recommended!
3) It's card only (no cash) in the park and by the gates.
4) there is a gift shop inside, so you don't have to bring your own food if you don't want to. There are a few picnic spots that are also gated off.
5) plan to be here for at least half a day (4 hours +)
6) wear sunscreen. It's a no brainer, but still worth mentioning.
7) by all means - never leave the car (except in the gated secure areas. There are wild animals after all and elephants - while they seem calm and peaceful - they weigh more and run much faster than you can ever dream of.
Other than that - ENJOY the 🐘🐘

Cottages are lovely with a magnificent view where we spotted elephants. Game drive was informative and fun and we spotted so many animals. A lovely pool. Restaurant has delicious food.

So I would probably give this a 4.5 stars. The park is extremely large with lots of elephants by the water holes and sometimes coming right up to your car. Also a lot of zebras and some warthogs. Unfortunately I also spent a ton of time driving around and seeing nothing. Animals were concentrated and either there are a lot in one area or you’re driving around for an hour looking at nothing.

Loved our stay in the camping section. Enjoyed the save-the-dung-beetle campaign. Beautiful park - all shades of green and we saw the wildflowers. Saw Buffalo, lions, loads of elephants, many antelope.
The best! Very cheap if you compare it to the smaller private resorts…

Fantastic large scale public exhibition and meeting facility with a picturesque view over the town. We attended the Grahamstown Arts Festival here in 2023 and attended our daughter's graduation here in 2024. The facility has various theatre venues and its main auditorium has a gallery catering to wheelchairs.

One of the best and most humbling things to do when visiting a new place is being able to view that place from a higher vantage point and enjoy the full sprawl of a city or town. The Settlers Monument is the best place to do that in Grahamstown. I travelled to Grahamstown for the 2015 National Arts Festival, and despite all the exciting events happening throughout the town, the Settlers Monument and the view from the hill was still my favourite thing about the trip.

Camdeboo National Park boasts breathtaking views of sheer cliffs and rock formations that rise above the valley. The Valley of Desolation, a popular attraction within the park, is a stunning sight to behold with its hauntingly beautiful landscape. The rugged dolerite columns set against the backdrop of endless Karoo plains create an awe-inspiring contrast. Visitors can also catch a glimpse of Graaff-Reinet nestled in a bend of the Sundays River from the nearby Toposcope viewpoint. A 1.
Amazing view of the town and beautiful Karoo veld! Definitely recommend to make time to go up. It’s a tar road all the way to the top so any car can do it. You won’t regret it!
Kayla Steenkamp — Google review
This is a great place for sunset and sunrise shoots. It's scenic and a great place to experience. The road leading to the valley is narrow and a blind rise throughout. It requires patience and tolerance if they are too many vehicles going up. However, the views are breathtaking. Be it the views of the town or the valley, you won't be disappointed at all. In terms of opening and closing times, it's best to call and enquire as the online times can be incorrect. Great place for meeting travellers who appreciate nature.

We always said we want to go there. This time, on our way back home, we visited the Valley of Desolation. I was very impressed at the entrance, three Dusters- it felt heartwarming 😀🥰, or must I say people with good taste😉.
The staff at the gate was friendly and professional. We were welcomed and asked to complete forms. We paid the entrance fee. We stopped at the first viewpoint and climbed a few steps to the top. Guys, I am unfit and did it. So just get out it is worthwhile.
The scenery was beautiful, and you overlooked Graaff-Reinet. We took a few pics and went off to the main area.
Thank heavens, here were bathroom facilities and it is clean and hygienic. My mom and Alwyn have already started climbing the steps. We took it slow. I was impressed she made it to the top. For 83 years old, that is good.
That is the most stunning view. At first, you don't know where to look. The scenery is stunning. All the different rock formations. This was due to volcanic eruptions a few million years ago. Here, we stayed for a while. We tested the echo 😎 and it worked.
We only drove a short while through the park and saw some wild impala, Zebras, ostriches, but there is lots more to see.
I would suggest that you put this on your bucket list.
Elna Lombaard — Google review
A relatively easy walk up to viewing points. Try and catch the sunset if possible. Beautiful views and an easy tarred road to drive up to the parking areas.

Fantastic views...the drive up top is a bit dicey as narrow road so please drive with care.Another beautiful national park.
rubendra naidoo — Google review
Utterly amazing. I wished we had more time to spend at the Camdeboo National Park. We used our Wildcards so didn't have to pay the entrance fee - it was R50 pp at the time we were there. It's a short drive to get to the view points and a short walk to see t get e epic views of the Valley of Desolation. There are no public amenities, such as coffee shops so make sure you bring your own food supplies. There is no shade and it gets extremely hot in the summer so be sure to put sunscreen and wear a hat and good walking shoes.

Absolutely breathtaking.
I would recommend wearing proper shoes instead of flip-flops as there is a short hike on an elevated rock path
Adri Benade — Google review
Nice hidden gem near Graaf Reinette (actually right next to it), there is a fee for entering the conservation area and then a 200 odd meter hike to the viewing spot but very worth it. There is also a top-down view of Graaf Reinette which is pretty cool.
Ben Strachan — Google review
Entering through the Camdeboo National Park, with a small fee at the gate, you have the added bonus of spotting some animals on the way up the mountain.
Head up in the late afternoon for the most striking contrasts as the afternoon sun hits the rocks. We had an afternoon of dramatic clouds in the sky above as well, but it's ever changing over the valley.
The first view over the valley as you drive to the top is beautiful. But then you park the car and follow a rough path up to the main viewing spots - and the views are definitely worth every bit of effort in walking up that path!!
Stunning formations left by the standing rocks and boulders...with a sweeping valley falling away behind them. Just gorgeous!

Got ourselves a pass for all 5 Museums in Graaf Reinet. A must if you enjoy old buildings. A good way to see how people used to live. Was fascinated by the kitchens and the equipment used.
Unfortunately you are not allowed to take photos inside. But the staff was always welcoming. Grounds could be better maintained, it was a bit difficult for my elderly mom. A tea room would have been nice.

A fascinating look at the past. Andrew Murray played a huge role in the town which was a surprise. All his books can be found in the museum, under lock and key. Some really old bibles to be seen.

Graaff Reinette is a beautiful town with lovely historic buildings. A visit to the Reinett House will be a high light. Beautiful yellowwood beams in the roof. An impressive Apple wood bedroom set in the main bedroom of which the grain was handmade, also caught my attention. An old vineyard can also be seen in the yard. In one of the outbuildings is a beautiful transport model set made from wood to scale. I did not observe that this museum is wheelchair friendly, so please consult with the staff. There are 🚻 on the premises and parking near by as well as at least 4 other museums in the area to visit.

Reinet House is a museum full of intriguing history and the building it self is in a unique prime condition. When visiting Graaff-Reinet this place must be on your to-see-list!
The Owl House Nieu-Bethesda is a unique museum located in the quaint village of Nieu-Bethesda, around 50 kilometers from Graaff-Reinet in the Karoo region. It was once the home and artistic haven of Helen Martins, an eccentric recluse and sculptor.
A unique, strange and Interesting ode to a creative life. Unique style and so much creative experimentation over so many years. Sad and beautiful creativity
Steve van Wyngaard — Google review
After looking forward for so many years to see and experience the OWL HOUSE, I was a bit underwhelmed. Yes, there are statues in the garden, created by Helen Martin, but where are all the owls? - maybe I am missing something.
The inside of the house was much more interesting where she played with colour and glass to create certain moods.
The Owl House is a museum with history, short video, memorabilia and photos of her life and works. Entry is currently R75 pp.
Retha Hillman — Google review
It is a fantastically strange museum.
The outside sculptures are biblical.
The internal walls, doors and ceilings (and some sculptures) are covered in different colours of broken glass.
It was fascinating.

This has been on my bucket list for years and I finally got to visit! What a great privilege to experience the life of Helen Martins. The video was very informative.
Her home and the sculpture garden are so well preserved. Being among the sculptures brought on many emotions that can only be explained to someone that have also seen them before. A must!

I've been to the Owl House three times and I've loved it each time. The statues all over the place and Helen's use of light and the materials at hand is incredible. It is like a different perspective on life.

World renowned, playwright, Athol Fugard's play "The road to Mecca" was inspired by the life of Helen Martins. A visit to Nieu Bethesda and the Owl House is definitely worthwhile from the beautiful scenery en route, the quaint village buildings to being transported back to a time when the strength and determination of a woman with a vision was reason to be spurned by a community.

Beautiful, fascinating, and also a disturbing experience. Left me wanting to know more about Helen Martins and outsider art. Well worth a visit.

The Owl House in Nieu-Bethesda has a rather interesting yet tragic history to it - . not sure if I can say it's an enjoyable experience because I felt it to be creepy but I guess it's one of the 'must-do' when in Nieu-Bethesda . There is an entrance fee of R70 when we went which includes an 8 minute video of the history of Helen Martins and her work. There are lots of sculptures depicting religious journeys, owls, mermaids. We arrived in time for an hour's tour before they closed - but for me an hour was enough.
Enid Son — Google review
Nieu Bethesda about 50km from Graaff Reinet and the drive is quite scenic
Last bit of the road is gravel and there had been some flooding recently so they were working on parts of the road
The Owl House we found a bit odd and eerie at times. A sad and dark story. Some of the artwork was also interesting and a bit weird at the same time. Guess if you into art it maybe a bit more meaningful
The place is fairly easy to find and some really nice old houses in the town. It's important to note they only take cash or snapscan.
The tour starts off with a video of Helen Martins life and then you head off into the house, all self guided
Andre Hackart — Google review
It's an interesting place. A little overrated, to be honest, but combined with a visit to the town, makes for a good day trip or stopover.
You could spend 20 minutes here or 2 hours, just remember to carry a hat. There's some informal vendors selling some cool stuff outside at pretty fair prices.
Samil Purmeswar — Google review
Quite a nice surprise, was very interesting to see the artwork in the yard, the video at the beginning is a must. Would recommend that more information is provided to visitors by means of a staff member giving a bit of a guided tour through the property, their are many other stories to be told I am sure, which would enrich the experience even more. Entrance fee I paid was R100 pp. and I would recommend taking cash, as they only have snap-scan (app) facilities, I don’t believe they accept credit or debit cards

This was a visit and experience I will cherish for ever. What a wonderful mix of emotions, from absolute joy to tremendous sadness of the magnificent house. The sculptures, the owls, the playfulness of light - definitely a stop worth making.

Definitely worth the visit, as Nieu-Bethesda depends on The Owl House to bring in visitors from all over the world. Prepare for an emotional journey through the mind of Helen Martins and Koos Malgas, her sculptor.
Mountain Zebra National Park is a stunning national park that offers guided safaris featuring mountain zebras. The park is located in a craggy and entrancing landscape that embraces rolling plains and deep valleys. The accommodations, including family cottages and a guest house, are all of top quality and very neat and clean. Visitors can expect to encounter a variety of different animals while on drives or 4x4 trails, with friendly and helpful staff readily available to assist them.
What a fantastic park!
Great wildlife, knowledgeable rangers and lovely facilities.
Spend a few days camping or at the chalets and enjoy yourself driving the various routes. If you have a 4x4 and are feeling adventurous, you can tackle some of their tougher routes.
Plenty to see and do!

This is one of my all-time favorite parks. The different landscapes and scenic views are beautiful. The accommodation is top notch with enough room for a family of 5. There is a restaurant that serves delicious food like stews, burgers, and seafood options. The view from the restaurant is gorgeous, and you can see wildlife grazing while you enjoy your meal. The staff is friendly, and the curio shop stocks various items made of leather as well. The pool is such a nice addition and is handy on summer days. One of the picnic areas has a pool as well. A definite must see!

Had a wonderful night at Mountain Zebra. The chalets are comfortable and have all the necessities. Saw lots of animals, although we didn't find the lions, cheetah or rhino. Unfortunately there wasn't space on the vehicles for us to do a night drive, but loved the early morning drive.

This is a SANPARK and one of the best our country has to offer. The park is beautiful in a dramatic and eye-catching way. The family cottages is very neat and clean and worth the stay but all the accommodation the park has to offer is of top quality. The staff and game rangers are very friendly and helpful. The park contains a lot of different animals and there is always some to see on a drive or 4x4 trail.

What a wonderful park! Such diversity, something for everyone! Bird life is outstanding, and the views from the short hiking trail in camp are mind blowing. Restaurant staff are good, and the food is more than adequate!
Chalets are in need of updating and maintenance is required, but overall we loved every minute there!

Accommodation is excellent. Very comfortable. Fire place that shares the living and sleeping space with an air con for hot days. Oversize bathroom and large sleeping room. Very nice view as per the picture provided. Not a very busy park and a mixture of biome that will excite anyone. The Ubejani route was a misty paradise early in the morning while the afternoon brought hot grasslands and grazing animals to life. Loads of small animals like bat eared fox, mongoose, spotted ganette, brown hyenas, secretary birds, carakal were all spotted during the day or on the night drive. It's also a very historic area for the boere war.
It has a beautiful well kept series of pools and camping sights that are very enjoyable. Again not very busy so you can relax. My partner and I fought over the placement in rankings of this one over the other parks we have visited and we conclude that this is a firm 2nd to Kruger.
Animals can be seen all over, many mongoose families are around. The usual suspects can be found at almost every turn. If you are an avid flora enthusiast then check the time of year you come because they boast a unique and massive conservancy of indigenous wild flowers and bulbs that are magnificent. Loved the stay.
Edit: after doing the Roouplaat/Kranskop loop we are in love.. Absolutely beautiful. Excellent facilities.

My favorite out of all the SANParks. At one point my family and I were going to the park up to 4 times a year. We've been probably about 25 times over the past 10 or so years. My family already has 2 more trips planned this year, one of which starts next weekend. After going so many times, we've seen just about everything the park has to offer, but still everytime we go, the park never disappoints

First off, I want to say that this park is fabulous. Loads of interesting animals to observe and experience in their natural habitats. The sheer majesty of land is the real star. Mountains and grasslands providing the perfevt backdrop for some spectacular wildlife. Self drive routes allow you the time and space to absorb all the wonders that the park offers. The guided drives in the expert hands of Richard, are an absolute must, his eyes are as keen as an eagles. His knowledge encyclopedic.
We stayed, with South African friends, in the family accomodation and to be honest some investment in the accomodation /public areas would take this park into five star category. It's all a bit tired and needs a bit of thought. The level of comfort would have been fine a few years ago but people expect more now, and they would be willing to pay more for that extra comfort.
The bottom line though is I would come back in a heartbeat.

The park has spectacular views and loads of wildlife. Its well worth visiting. I have to say they have the friendliest and helpful staff here. We visited Dec 2023, some of the roads need some attention so best to drive a car with some clearance. We were very dissapointed as the ablution block at the picknic site was blocked and under water. There is a restaurant and small shop at reception but I will recommend taking your own food and drinks, we ordered some food but it was very dissapointing.

Very nice place, we stayed in the one mountain cottage. Was told we need a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle with diff lock to get to the cottage but I got there quite easily with my front wheel drive mini van although it didn't scrap the ground in one or two places would definitely recommend a higher clearance car. Loads of wildlife so there always somthing to see

The place is worth visiting. To appreciate the work of others and unwind outside, while enjoying the view of outside sculptures and the feeling of outdoors. The place could really use a restaurant or at least a cafe because, after exploring different parts of the museum personally I was worn out and needed a drink or something sweet to recharge.
What I've noticed about the museum is that they give people an opportunity showcase their craft, if that is not the reason then I suppose they can do better because some pieces weren't all that if you understand what I mean.
The best highlight for me was the section for blind people, yes if you have a blind friend(s) or a family member who appreciates art, then allow them to tag along!

Great example of sustainable tourism attraction. It is a beautiful amazing park, gallery and museum. Enjoyed seeing the art and the sculptures outside. Great place for photos and relaxation.

Entrance used to be for free. Now its R10 per vehicle. I really dont mind as I know they need to keep the maintenance up on the garden. No where there was signs up that visiting the gardens has changed from free to paying. Only at the gate at arrival. So what about the people that come to visit that knows entrance are free? But...
What upset me the most I wasn't even allowed to use the bathroom when visiting there. (Yes I did pay the R10 to visit the place) Plus I am a expecting mother.

-It's safe and beautiful.
-Accommodates kiddies
-Perfect for those romantic picnics
-My only problem is that it closes early which is at 5pm.
-Entrance is free

An amazing experience! The museum is really amazing and the gardens are stunning, it's the perfect place to have a picnic. The entrance is free.

The art in the museum is very interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was disappointed to see they were busy installing some other artwork which I missed out on...
There aren't any card facilities. Make sure you take cash.
There is also no restaurant 😕
All in all a very average visit

Naval Hill, once the site of British naval-gun emplacements during the Anglo-Boer War, offers stunning views from its summit and is also home to the Franklin Nature Reserve. Visitors can enjoy walking amidst ostriches, zebras, and giraffes. At the top of the hill stands a planetarium run by the University of Free State and a massive statue of Nelson Mandela that overlooks the city.
Absolutely an amazing place!!!!! Would recommend it to everyone. They are friendly, helpful and go the extra mile to make your experience something you will never forget!! Amazing people, delicious food and incredible interactions with these amazing animals!!

The place is great, specially for animal lovers. Perfect for a location event, has play area for kids as well. I didn't like the food prepared for us but that might just be a preference issue. The road going to the place is very bad, people going there would benefit if they use off road cars.

Only half of the park was open and we couldn't go see the big cat on our own Only on the tour .The food was okay but they are not like they were in the past but I can tell they were trying.

We had the amazing privilege today of a Private Tour around Bagamoya Lion Sanctuary with the owner Botha.
An unssuming man with a law degree.. His passion for his animals radiates and soon as you meet him.
The Sanctuary is a safe haven for rescued animals, which means it's a NO KILL shelter, he looks after them as though they were his own children, with such passion and enthusiasm.
His knowledge about each and every animal is unbelievable. He can tell you before you enter into the cages which animal will take a liking to you and which you might not. His two Cubs that you are allowed to play with I have no words to describe. Well behaved and lil bit naughty but at end of the day just want to be loved.
Botha, it was and honour to meet and spend the day with you learning about these animals and I am truly humbled by the work that you and your wife do for them everyday. From the lil Cubs, to the teenagers to the older Lions as well as the Cheethas, Leopardas and Caracals.
We cant wait to come and see you guys again with the progress you have made on the bird sanctuary, as well as well as all the other plans you mentioned today to me.
My sister was in her element for her birthday and for that I thank you.. I cannot think of another present that will beat this one. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you soon again
This is a highly recommended Private tour with a 15/10 from me.... this far outcede my expectations and you can see by the photos.

It was interesting to see the lions, tigers, cheetah & all the other animals. They made all feel welcome. Unfortunately, the play area is a bit broken. Nevertheless, the kids could still play.

The most incredible experience of our lives - the interactive experiences feeding the baby lion then in with the larger Lions and Tigers. They all like their bellies rubbed! It was worth far more than the long drive down from Johannesburg. [UK tourists: January 2016}

The world's largest, this vast 2-billion-year-old impact crater includes 4 towns & a granite dome.
Took a tour with a local guide. Stunning and informative. A very special place. Unfortunately, there is no public visitors centre or information centre. The UNESCO site represents a very small area of this huge geological feature, and seems to be located mostly on private properties

I'll never travel to Pretoria without this trip planner again
The Hector Pieterson Memorial and museum is located in Soweto, just two blocks from the spot where 12-year-old Hector was shot on the 16 June 1976 during the student uprising. The museum provides a stark look at life in South Africa during the days of apartheid through exhibits about the history of Soweto and the role of its people in the independence struggle.
Thou a great source of painful memories for black South Africans, it is a truly magnificent monument of historic truth and a display of courage for those who fought for black people to have equal right with white people. Even willing to rist their lives for us.
The tour guide was truly informative and it was awe inspiring to stand were courageous young men and women matched for the future to be brighter we will forever be grateful. Must see.

This place gives you more insight about the soweto uprisings, you get to experience the turmoil that occurred in Soweto. There are pictures and videos that were taken as the events were happening.
You get to relieve that era.
There are also volunteering sight guides who will help you navigate the memorial outside the museum.

I came here early Saturday morning. Before the heap of tourist buses arrives.
The museum is really good 👍 I spend almost an hour just taking it all in my own time.
You can have a guided tour if you want. I didn't feel the need.
It's such a huge historical monument. It's also a very planned layout. If you're a wheelchair user, you'll will not have a problem visiting here. It's incredibly accessible with ramps. Also It's walking distance from the Nelson Mandela house, too. People outside are very friendly and I meet Hectors sister Antoinette!! She does guided tours.

Only visited the outside and got a full explanation of the history and the meaning of the memorial. I'm sure there is a lot more to learn and see, but after visiting the Apartheid Museum just previous to visiting this site, my mind was spinning from learning specifics of the experience of South African Blacks/Natives.

It's quite dull. One has to read to understand the whole message. It would be good if they have guides to quicken the process especially for tourists. The reading is ideal for students not tourists.

I know The Memorial is very very important. I feel sad , because children were killed for no reason. I got depressed. I already knew history, but felt angry again. Memorial is very well organized. No one can turn away from the violence that happened; no one should. Main story is out of the building.
When you visit please do not think it is a museum; whole area is the idea. Try to understand what happened.

Lovely experience. No bookings needed, we paid for 14 tickets upon arrival (R23 for locals and R54 for tourists). A tour guide was provided however he did not take a moment to pause and check if the guests have questions. Our tour guide also expected a tip after the tour.
No pictures are allowed to be taken inside the museum.
Overall a great place, just watch out for scammers!

The apartheid museum is a museum in Johannesburg, South Africa that celebrates the end of white-minority rule in South Africa through its informative displays on the history of apartheid. The museum allows visitors to experience segregation based on race by separating them into different groups according to their features, including skin color, size of nose, kinks in hair and language used. This highly recommended museum also highlights the progress made by South Africa since the end of apartheid with its various exhibits.
A must in Joburg. Only open Thursday to Sunday and bank holidays, we were lucky to be there on Easter Monday.
You have to see this museum to help you understand/recollect/refresh your memory of this insane period in time. I was sickened. I left the museum twice to get air. I left the visit with dark clouds over my head, so I suppose that can give you an idea of just how good this museum actually is. Photos inside the museum are forbidden, but my link with accessibility forced me to take one photo ... "For every person that died, three people were left with a disability..."
This just added to my dark clouds.

Very, very interesting and eye opening experience for us at the Apartheid Museum. We went there as part of a private tour and only allotted two hours. So, unfortunately we only made it until 1970 before having to depart. We recommend four hours to see everything included.
We were a group of two visiting on a weekday so there was no lines, not very busy and no need to buy tickets in advance.
We really enjoyed our time here and would recommend visiting when you travel to Johannesburg.

Such an incredible museum. The layout is beautiful. The beginning of the tour helps you know how to pace your visit based on the time you have. So many different mediums, helping teach or illustrate different parts of the history. Cool gift shop!

One of THE BEST museums you’ll find. So wrong experience. Very moving. Extremely well done. Even if you o may have ½ an hour, it’s so worth the 150 Rand per person. You could spend hours and hours there but it’s worth even a short and speedy trip. Just deploy your speed-reading skills - you’ll need it.

We absolutely loved our experience. We arrived early and took our time. Although I'd recommend it for older kids. My 16 year old wanted to spend all morning here, however my 14 and 10year old soon became hungry and tired. The museum is brilliantly set up with up-to-date information. Not much in way of food but conveniently located near the casino which had restaurants as well fast food places nearby..100%recommended as a day out in JHB.

Must go to the Apartheid Museum! A wealth of history, so powerful and well presented. Tour guide is recommended. There are a few details you might miss otherwise. And the museum is very large, so the guide helps you move along a bit quicker without missing anything.
Samuel Akinin — Google review
This is one of the best organised and thoughtfully designed historical museums I've visited in a while. When you enter the museum, you are immediately challenged to empathise with people who lived under Apartheid rule.
It compares favourably to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. Although we had two hours, we could easily have used another hour. If you read English, you do not need a guide.
NOTE: no photos can be taken once you enter.
Kevin D Sherman — Google review
The museum overall was an okay experience, I've seen better and have been treated better. The staff in the Cafe on the other hand were another story. Disgusting, rude and malicious! The specific person has been identified in the photos attached. I explained to her that I disliked the sauce they put on my burger and she got IRRATE IMMEDIATELY! She slammed the food carton top down on my hands while I was showing her what I was speaking about and then snatched the carton from me. These photos are the aftermath, she thinks it's funny and smirks about her childish behavior. Just UGLY...

Museum is very well done and artistic too. Great transition though history in South Africa. I did this on a day Joburg tour, 2 hours is sufficient to see everything and read. Goes well with visiting Soweto too, the township that is a key example of segregation, separation laws, and racism. Temporary exhibits on Mandela and Tutu are wonderful right now. No pictures to be taken inside. Right next to Gold Reef in case you also want to visit a casino and amusement park. Note, it is open 5 days a week now, so check the schedule.

Great museum with lots of stories and information. Not boring at all!! It’s advised you can spend 2.5 hours but I find I could do 4 hours here.
Patnarin Wongkad — Google review
If you're in the area, this should be a place to take in some historical truths. When walking through, not only can you recount the historical context of Apartheid, but one should be able to see its affects on natives of SA then and even now. Only then are we able to understand how truly devastating the systems of Apartheid IS. It's rather insightful and warrants actionable atonement. This is not meant for just another walk through another museum.

Amazing Museum that gives a very full and in depth view of Johannesburg and South Africa and about the struggle heros that were involved in the anti apartheid movement. Budget 2-4 hours for this experience. Always take clients here when they visiting from other countries to give them context of our country.

This museum is going to stir up something deep inside you. You are given either a ‘White’ or ‘Non-white’ card at the entrance which follow separate paths in the first section giving you a very clear insight into how life for South Africans have shaped up over the years.
The museum has plenty of excerpts, short movies, audio clips and a lot of info. You should definitely account for 3+ hours to really do justice to this museum.
Tickets are priced at 150 Rands as of 2023 and there’s plenty of parking available.

A very rich and documented museum particularly about South Africa ,it's inhabitants , how gold was discovered in Johannesburg , start of apartheid ( colored , indians , Africans and whites ) ,role of Nelson Mandela & Desmond Tutu and others .
Also gives a full biography of Nelson Mandela ,the wives, the prison letters , visitors , his prison cell mates stories etc
You can also see the actual Mercedes Benz Nelson Mandela was given in the 90's + the briefcase 💼

The museum is a mandatory stop in Johannesburg. It is the city's main attraction and essential for learning about the history of struggle of the South African people. The museum is very beautiful, organized, clean and full of history and interesting facts about the country. It's huge and I recommend at least 3 hours to visit everything at your leisure. It's a very interactive museum and not at all tiring.

As a grown man. I cried. The practice was so despicable that if you have only a degree of humanity, you will cry. I learned that apartheid was so inhuman that I couldn't understand how the world allowed it to go on for so long. The experience is something that is now fully on my soul. How the South African blacks and colored tolerated it for so long is still a mystery to me. If you come to South Africa, you must go right away so you can enjoy the rest of your trip.

Northern Parkway and Gold Reef Road, Johannesburg, 2001, South Africa
The Gold Reef City Theme Park is an amusement park located in Johannesburg, South Africa. It has rides and attractions for all ages and contains some of the most thrilling theme park rides in the country. The amusement park is famous for its Crown Mines tour, which takes you down an abandoned shaft from where gold was mined centuries ago.
Amazing place to visit but I have to say plan in advance for this place, step one arrive very early to catch almost all the busy rides, like Anacondas, the trains and so on, 30min after the place open expect to wait about 30 to 1:30min for a single ride that last a minute. Be prepared to walk a lot, like a lot of walking is required there. The 4D experience was amazing just that they have one movie you can not make a choice, I love the fact that you bring your own food and you can buy food in there too. Online purchase is recommended when you arrive, so if you already know you are going buy ticket online. The part I don’t get is both adult and kids pay R250 even though there are rides the kids can not have access to. I have to say overall it’s ideal place to visit. I enjoyed myself after.

Without a doubt a fantastic place to come. I don't know anywhere else in Africa to go for a theme park that comes close to this. I do suspect the staff of keep rides closed for a while for people not to have continuous rides. If you can come on a slow day it is very enjoyable. Especially if enjoy getting a rush from the free falling feeling. There are rides for the whole family and restaurants all over. Even carnival games some of which are very unlikely to win anything. Some are easy wins

Cleverly out together, this disused open shaft mine cum now theme park caters well for children and those who are children at heart for all things playful. It's definitely not for the faint hearted and most of the rides are for the taller (above 1.5m I think) kids. There is also a kids section for the toddlers and infants.

I took my niece on Friday, 8 April 2022, her first time. It was enjoyable. It wasn't too busy. We paid R250 pp, that was a bit steep to be honest. She's 9yrs old, that was a bit much. We had tons of fun and made use of most of the rides. The lady at the ticketing place selling tickets for the Gold pour and the mine tour is a rude and miserable individual, certainly not the kind to be at a theme park and dealing with patrons. The gentleman at the Gold pour exhibition directed us to her to purchase our tickets. He was the most polite, friendliest people, along with the lady who did our tour of the mine. Those two deserve an accolade, they made our experience exceptional.

My family and I were booked in at the theme park hotel. Staff were friendly. The hotel room was fine. As for the swimming pool water, well that was green so my husband and kids could not swim in it.
My kids were thrilled to go on rides, watch 4D videos etc. However the queues are ridiculously long. Sadly there is no exception for those staying inside the theme park. It would be nice if they could give hotel residents access to the rides an hour before opening to the public.
There should be a limitation on the amount of people allowed access daily into the theme park so that everyone gets to make use of the rides instead of standing tirelessly (during a heatwave) in queues to get on.
People are allowed in from around 9am/9:30am but the gates to the rides aren't open so you have to start queuing already which I find really annoying. To top it off they close the gates to rides from around 4pm when the theme park closes @ 5pm. I do understand that this is within the peak season however I seriously hope management does something about this.

I have very fond memories of coming here in my childhood, so I was rather excited to visit as an adult ( I'm still short, but tall enough for the rides now). Besides the historical attractions for which is famed, recent upgrades and additions have been made turning out into a proper theme park. We went on a weekday to avoid the crowd, it was still pretty busy with a few school day trips taking place and bus loads of tourists. The rides provide enormous fun for ppl of all ages. You are well catered for regarding food, as there are kiosks and restaurants dotted about. For those with no interest in the park, there is also a hotel and casino.
Seanan Wai — Google review
You have to buy your tickets online, which, for me, makes things more convenient. There are the friendliest guys on stilts, painted gold, wearing mining type outfits, helping and directing people to where they must go, the line at the kiosk to get the tickets wasn't long and the staff are very friendly and efficient so it moves quickly. I got in free because it was my birthday and you get a separate line for that ticket which also moved fast.... had the best day, great food available all over, the lines for the adult rides were a bit insane but I didn't go for that, walked around, explored the "city" the fun train was cool with the tunnel that turns, kinda makes it feel like the train is tipping, my son (6) had a blast on the kids rides and before we knew it the day was over.... I guess time does fly when you're having fun!
Leigh-Anne Frame — Google review
We had an absolute blast!!
The Online Ticket booking is convenient and fast and definitely helps the queues at the entrance going very fast and efficient.
The only downside of our visit was definitely the extremely long lines at the rides, we had to wait 40 minutes to an hour for the rides but I do take in consideration that it was the first day of the school holidays. It was very crowded. It's also very frustrating when the boards cleary states "no place keeping" and crowds of people move past you to their friends infront of you making you wait even longer. I do suggest that the staff be more strict about this.
Other than that, all the rides worked!
The staff from the gates to the operators at the rides were very friendly.
The bathrooms are very clean which is very impressive if you take in account the amount of people there during the day so big thumbs up on that!
Huge variety of restaurants and places to buy cool drinks and snacks during the day.
It's a nice outing for friends and for the whole family with the rides and games for the kids as well.
Overall nice experience!

We had the absolute best time spending the day here. Remember to buy the tickets online and get there early and even when you do this, you will have to queue for wristbands to enter the theme park. I suggest doing the most popular rides early to avoid crazy long queues. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of rides available. Lots of places to eat. Clean bathrooms. Even though the tickets are pricey, it is value for money. My kids had a blast and I felt young again.

Gold Reef City has always been a popular theme park. The roller coaster rides provide your body with an adrenaline rush, making you feel alive. A scream of joy, fear, and exhilaration!
The park is very clean and well maintained, and there are plenty of food stalls throughout the park for you to choose from!
I would not recommend visiting the park during the holidays because there are far too many people, especially during the December holidays, and you end up standing in line for hours and only being able to ride a few of the rides! Try to go on a Thursday or Friday when it is a little quieter. Then you can truly enjoy the exciting rides!
Remember to book online and to wear comfortable shoes.

Decided to have an adults day out at the theme park. I haven't been for over 10 years, and I was pleasantly surprised by how the park still runs. The park is incredibly clean (including the toilets), the rides are fun, there are so many places to eat. The entry fee is a bit steep, but if you intend on going on all the rides then it's worth it. The food places are average priced.
The only issue was the wait for the rides and for food, but we also visited on a public holiday so it was understandably busy.
All in all it was a great day out. Kids love it, but expect to fork out a lot of money for the day, so budget and save wisely beforehand.

If you want to enjoy the rides, do not go on a public holiday or month end... go on a random day during the week.
2. Don't carry a handbag. Be free and ready to have fun.
3. They sell food.

Fun for Everyone at Gold Reef City!
This was my first time visiting Gold Reef City as a dad with my kids. It was a fantastic experience for everyone! The rides in the kid's area were clean, well-maintained, and perfect for little ones. The kids had a blast.
Another big plus is the new online ticketing system. It's convenient and saves time waiting in line. However, I did notice a potential issue with redeeming tickets if someone in your group can't make it. To avoid this hassle, I recommend planning carefully and buying tickets for the exact number of people attending. If you're unsure, consider getting smaller group tickets. That way, if someone has to miss out, you can redeem the ticket on another visit.
In short, Gold Reef City is a great place for a family day out. The rides, cleanliness, and online ticketing system all impressed me. Just be mindful of the ticket redemption policy when planning your trip.
Oh, and no food or drinks can be “imported”.

Had a great time!
We went through on the Friday and slept over in the theme park hotel and then spent the Saturday as well. We went after the peak season so it was nice and quiet with no waiting lines which was nice for the children. All the staff that we spoke to were very friendly and accommodating. The place was so clean and well looked after.
When sleeping over you get access to the park. I would suggest price wise to rather spend a night there and get access to the park for 2 days.
Would definitely visit again.

Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World is an exciting resort located in a circus-themed complex. It boasts a range of dining options, event venues, gaming facilities and spa services. The establishment follows strict COVID-19 protocols to ensure the safety of its visitors. However, it charges R10 per person on weekends which may be unexpected for those on a tight budget or travelling with a large group.
This year I went to Carnival City twice. I must say that environment at the restuarants, particularly the Spur was conducive and accommodating to the type of informal - yet critical - business engagement I needed to have at very short notice. The staff were excellent. The management understood my needs and delivered per excellence! I shall return 👌🏽
Tumaole Mohlaoli — Google review
Good COVID 19 protocol followed. R10 per person entrance on weekends is relatively new and can throw people off especially if you're on a budget with 5 plus people in your car. Overall, it is clean, great service from different shops and the outside area with the rides is well controlled and relatively safe. Definitely worth going for play dates.

Really nice place and design but over crowded with people. You can barely walk outside the casino, there's just too much going on. But I really loved the design of the place and the casino inside wasn't too bad. I just lost a lot of money 🤣 so you're welcome! They have the usual set up of restaurants, movies and the casino.

Calistos definitely my favourite place to enjoy some seafood. Had a date with the kids. One of our favourite restaurants. The kids always have a blast at the fun company, with a variety of arcade games and outdoor game.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game section. During busy times there could be additional hands to assist with the ticket counting machines perhaps. Only three out of 8 points were in order.

Actually the Casino has completely changed to the greatness. Everytime i visit Carnival City i fill like it's my first day. Keep on giving us good n quality service.

Wonderful place for individuals and families gathering for a variety of activities of enjoyment. Wonderful management team, workforce as well as security personnel. The place is always running despite the challenges posed by persistent load shedding. The addition of an Ice Ring on top of a variety of restaurants, kids indoor and outdoor play center, the Cinema as well as live musical events makes the place an ideal place to choose whilst in the East Rand. Carnival City Casino is a true definition of Ekhurhuleni (A place of calmness and peace).

Such a gem and great value for money. Innocent was very friendly and helpful and went the extra mile to help us secure a room upgrade. Rooms are surprisingly big, especially coming to Carnival City straight after the Cabanas at Sun City. Just wish the smoking policy would be better enforced as smokers don't seem to realize it's a public space around the pool

Nice place to be whether alone or with family & friends. There is Cinema for movies, restaurants and games for children. The place has convenient working hours with other facilities running 24 hours. It is also situated conveniently along N17 with an affordable hotel within the premises. Spacious parking with access controlled entrance makes it safe & ideal. It's very ideal for a one-stop family treat

Carnival City is still the best place to be, the only challenge of going there during the week is the queue for entering the premises where you have to pay a fee...you'll only find 1 boom gate is working in that day...everything else is incredible!!!...if you've never been there, try it out.
Sabelo — Google review
Great time as always at Carnival, the only sad part is all the beautiful water features are gone, most noticeably at the front entrance. The bowling and arcade games are much better with the renovations done but sadly it feels as if it's missing something, especially by the casino side.
The maintenance is also not being done at all as all the paint is faded.
Bowling was at least 5 stars.

It's amazing and super affordable, really! The tokens are as cheap as R2 so for R100 you get 50 tokens and your child can play at their own pace. They now have an extended playing area which was a small area when I last went in 2021 whereby game tickets start from as little as R10. I swear, it is now a mini Goldreef city 😍. I loved the experience and entertainment which is what keep us going back with my friends and family.

The Sterkfontein Caves nature preserve is a UNESCO-protected site that includes permanent exhibits of ancient hominids and an excavation site. The caves and surrounding area are accessible by guided tour, making it one of the most popular archaeological sites in the world.
A great experience, bending, squating, walking up and down stairs and learning about caves and fossils. Thank you to our tour guide for the lovely explanations and answering all the questions. Recommended to all.

Amazing. The cave system is huge. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept the whole tour on track.
Beware, this can be a physically tough tour. Lots and lots of steps, steep incline and declines and very, very tight squeezes through the tunnel system. Hiking boots or trainers are the only suitable shoes.
This is a magical place. The geology and history of mankind locked in these caves is stunning.
When you exit the cave system, take a moment to appreciate the highveld scenery... It is breathtaking

The cave tour was really nice, something you should definitely do once. Our tour guide was AMAZING, (Think his name was Mfanna) very Historical, knowledgeable and full of fun jokes... Keep up the great service- Even the restaurant and bathrooms were sparkling clean and the food was great! The Museum building that you can walk through before or after your tour is also packed with lots of interesting historical findings.
Spend some time (reading) in the museum before your cave tour because you are a bit tired afterwards to do so. There are ALOT of stairs/steps, some parts of the cave are muddy and other parts are very dusty, but overall I enjoyed it so much.

Must go outing, for those living in Gauteng.
We took our kids for a short trip on Sunday afternoon.
The caves present a different experience to what most outdoor activities in Gauteng have to offer. Going down into a prehistoric cave is a refreshing break, especially for those of us with kids younger than 10.

This was such great fun with a professional friendly guide who took us through the caves and explained everything in detail. There is an area to sit at where one can order food and drinks. Great way to spend a Sunday.
The only thing i did not like is seeing how people litter with their masks and hair nets. Not cool. Throw your litter away and respect our earth.

Impressive caves with a rich history and importance for humanity. Nearly all of the publicly available parts of the cave are lit, the slopes are cut into stairs and the path is covered in thick anti-slippery floor mats.
The cave has many halls of impressive size, with the most impressive perhaps being the Elephant hall.
The guides are knowledgeable and friendly and you are certain to get a good history lecture on the fossils found in the cave.
Bringing children is not a problem, but infants and toddlers will be a bit challenging, though not impossible. They have no toddler-sized helmets and there is one steep and narrow descending passage while leaving the cave which requires you to crunch down while simultaneously holding your child in your arms, which requires some agility and dexterity.

Very beautiful! A nice variant of restaurants inside like Greek, Asian, Indian, African and so on. So there's something for everyone. The casino itself looks very clean and nice. Sadly we didn't get to play. We wanted a day card to play since we only stopped by. The machine told us to get them at the cashier but after asking we could only sign up but not get a day card to play. Was a bit sad but once you're signed up I think it will be a lot of fun there. Just wasn't worth it for us for the short visit.

Meh, it's okay. Cinema hasn't got anything exciting. Of all the restaurants I'd only recommend Lily Asian, the salmon sushi was the best I've ever had. There's nothing really to do here. Even the magic company doesn't offer much, and the machines are giving in.

I took my family here to eat on our last night in South Africa. We ate at Spurs, a restaurant I ate at frequently and loved as a child. It didn't disappoint.
The staff were fantastic and the menu had something for everyone. My daughter and I are vegetarian so fully expected to only have salad. However there was a whole vegan menu to choose from. The steaks and ribs where a complete hit with the neat eaters and just as I remember them, huge!
A great place to wonder round and loads of places to choose to eat too.

Maropeng is a contemporary museum and entertainment complex located at the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage site. It features interactive exhibits that chronicle the origins and evolution of humankind, from its earliest beginnings to modern times. The center also houses a new exhibit highlighting Homo naledi, a previously unknown species discovered in 2013 within the Rising Star caves. The building itself boasts an innovative design combining natural elements such as grassy mounds with sleek modern steel finishes.
Truly a wonderful place to visit, the atmosphere was nice and chill, the staff was warm and welcoming. The tour guide truly knocked it out of the park, very knowledgeable, and a natural and interesting presentation of all the information. Engaging.
And the activities were very interactive, great place for all ages, literally! I was quite impressed. We will definitely be visiting again when the caves re-open.

You have to buy tickets online .no cash or cards accepted there. Guide was informed as best he could . It's a pity we were rushed as I did want to question him about his facts. The inside is still in fair condition but they will have to start paying attention to the museum as not everything is working. Boat ride was fun .also they have no proper signage to indicate where to go or exit .we had to go in by ourselves and had no idea once we got out how to get back to the parking . Food options don't even bother .run down with no options and I'm guessing overpriced. They where running a special for R100 which for that amount was worth it . Staff friendly enough

This is one of the most important museums in my opinion that shows the evolution of the Human species. It is located in the so called Cradle of Humankind where some of the oldest hominid fossils have been discovered. The museum is a great idea but unfortunately suffers from a lack of execution. The people who work there I am sure do their best but a lot of the exhibits don’t work, don’t have a very coherent theme so the story of what the museum is about doesn’t come alive. It could have been so much more. I would still highly recommend visiting this museum

A must see if you’re close by and are interested in history, evolution and enjoy museums. R100 for a basic tour and a tube ride underground into a simulated cave that show cases the elements of life.
The caves are flooded at the moment and we were not able to walk through them, which was a bit of a bummer. The guide advised that they might be open end of August for anyone who is keen on that.
There’s some amazing views with a restaurant at the hotel and another food court. There are some shops to purchase merchandise.
I’d like to return to the caves when they’re open.

A must do if you want to give your kids a learning experience. We loved the entire experience complete with human fossils, a walk through time on the elements, a water ride and breathtaking views. Just phone ahead to check if the caves are open as they are susceptible to flooding and may be closed.

This is a great place. The main museum is very child friendly and the new exhibition on the first floor is very interesting and educational.
The only problem is that many of the interactive exhibits need repair.
Jeff Bulled — Google review
The halls are impressive, and beautiful, and the place is clean and tidy. The bathrooms were clean. The staff were friendly and happy to help.
My family found the fossils interesting. Unfortunately, some of the walls with writing were in colours that are very difficult to read. The exhibition rooms could also flow better with more of a logical progression.
The underground raft ride was fun, but it would have been nice to have some explanation along the way as to what the different areas are, otherwise it was a bit abstract.
The reason for the poor rating is because a lot of things were ‘out of order’. And seems like although the place was clean, there is no maintenance. I’m sure with a lot of fixing the experience would be great.

Now this was a mind blowing experience and very informative. Not knowing what you to expect and getting the experience we did at the Cradle of Humankind was very inspiring and a must visit for both adults and children. It's a very educational experience.
Learning about the evolution of man is something we take for granted. Also the tube on the water is absolutely amazing. Traveling through and seeing the different stages of life, ice age, stone age, iron age etc was unreal. Everything is brought to life so beautifully.
If there is anywhere is South Africa that deserves a visit, it is the Maropeng Cradle of Humankind. To those who invented the design structure and entire idea, well done. Truly inspiring

We visited the Maropeng visitor site as a family and educational outing. This was the only option as the Sterkfontein caves are still close due to flooding. The tour was basic and a bit rushed and left you with a feeling of what just happened. Even though the site is 19 years old, the displays seems outdated and most stuff is out of order. Considering the budget allocated to arts and culture is R18.8 billion and the fact they charge you R120 for a toasted cheese sandwich, no ham or bacon, and R23 for a 200ml water, you expect a little more. Lets hope by the time the caves re open, it will not be a disappointment.

My son enjoyed it so much. He had learnt about in school so he properly schooled the whole family 😂😂😂😂. Great place to hang out with the kids. The restaurant was closed off for a conference which was a bummer. I'm love to experience places with my palate😂😂😂😂
The Bothongo Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve, located less than 30 miles northwest of Johannesburg, is a nature reserve dedicated to the preservation of endangered species such as lions, rhinos, cheetahs and vultures. The privately-owned reserve covers an area of 3,000 acres and is home to over 600 animals from more than 30 different species including giraffes, hippos, flamingos and ostriches.
We stayed 2 nights in the cabin log with jacuzzi and we had a wonderful time. The chalet was not brand new but well equipped, clean and comfortable for us. We had a Rhino with the baby stayed in front of our cabin the whole night. We would definitely go again.

A really great family friendly day out. Not a far drive from Johannesburg, loads of animals to see - you see them up close and in families and herds. Really great experience to see predator feeding.
The reptile show was educational and entertaining and the show was hosted by a fantastic female host... I've never seen a female snake handler before. She really was amazing!
The animals are all well taken care of and those in enclosures have a reasonable amount of space to roam.
All staff were very helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable.
The bike park was a nice extra touch! Kids enjoyed that too.
We were really pleasantly surprised by this amazing place. Definitely a must visit for families with kids. Great value for the price.
We only didn't get to visit the Wonder Caves because the times overlapped with other activities.

The drive to get to the reserve is scenic and easy to navigate. The tickets office were very helpful. The driver started the drive in time, was very accommodating. He was very knowledgeable and professional. The reserve has a variety of animals that we were able to see and learn about. We did not get to see the lions because we went a day after the feeding so would recommend going on feeding day if you want a sighting of the lions.

Beautiful views and majestic animal sightings. The retail park is also very informative, including the bird sanctuary. It's well worth it R450 per vehicle for the game drive, you get access to the predator feed at 1pm and reptile show at 2.30. You also have access to view the captive animals, including tiger, hippo, cheetah, leopard, jaguar, panther, lynx, etc. Beautiful place to visit with the family.

This was my fourth visit to the Rhino and Lion Park and it is absolutely great. There is so much to see. Every 5km we would see animals, the wild cats that were hiding or sleeping all woke up during feeding time which was cool to watch. Entry to the park is R220.00 per person and schedule nothing less than 4 hours to drive around.

I really, really loved this place. Went there with my partner and friends, I would like to go back in summer when we can sit outside and enjoy the view.
I had a desert, and it was alright. This is a great place to go to with family or even as friends when you want to unwind and relax also to enjoy nature. There is a biking trail that I spotted , and you can also rent a bike so those activities need a nice hot summer day.
sthembile Buthelezi — Google review
A bit pricey compared to other zoos and national game parks but has the best of both worlds as it combines both zoo type enclosures as well as open game drive areas to view animals in natural habitats.
Widest selection of bigs cats i have ever seen, especially ligers which were huge. Also experienced rhino and buffalo very close to our vehicle. White lioness coming directly towards our vehicle was a surreal experience though a bit terrifying at the same time. Variety of leopards in enclosures to be seen along with gorgeous white tigers. Only one of the big 5 we did not see was the elephant. Tons of other animals like ostrich, buck and hippo to see as well a giraffe feeding experience at the restaurant.
Given the price would ensure you spend the entire day there to get the best value as there are many other facilities for kids -play areas, slides etc.

Went for a day, to the restaurant. Let’s start with the drive: lovely views of mountains and green trees —felt like a local gateway which was fun. The entrance is clean and well-maintained. This place is popular for their restaurant, but it also offers overnight accommodation and a game drive.
We went to the restaurant, the attraction point is *drum roll* feeding the giraffe😅 while you wait for your meal or after your meal, you have the option to feed the giraffe for R50 (how cool).
The food was amazing, and well priced. It’s a good place to go for a first-date, birthday celebration or just a simple Sunday family outing. Definitely recommend!

Really yummy pizza!! Beer on tap. Bring your cozzie, there's a pool!
Was lovely to feed and pet a giraffe for the first time in my life - but shame, he/she needs a friend ☺️

This place will be amazing for kids parties and introducing them to animals. The enclosures are well kept and the animals well looked after.
The road inside the big cats enclosures are best suted for a vehicle that has a higher ground clearance than usual. We went in a Audi and won't recommend it, but if you have a bakkie or SUV definitely try it out. Was a lovely day and will definitely go back.

A real game farm on your doorstep.
Only 40 minutes drive to a game farm that has truly amazing experiences.
Lion, white lion, cheetah, tigers and leopards, to name a small percentage of what we got to see.
The drive in the park can take you the whole day, if you want, with a large picnic area where you can braai.
Definitely worth the drive.
Also an amazing place to take your visitors from out of the country to experience wildlife without leaving the city.
The "neck and deck" restaurant at the entrance gives you an opportunity to see giraffe close and personal. Food and service at restaurant is average and offering could be better.

Always a great day out with lots to see in the main reserve.
At the "centre" of the reserve is a "zoo" with a large variety of animals including a tiger.
There's also a bike track and play area for the kids + giraffe feeding at the "entrance".

Our visit to Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve was truly unforgettable! From the moment we stepped foot in the reserve, it was evident that we were in for an incredible experience. Watching the majestic lions and even having the opportunity to feed them was a highlight for both the kids and us.
The safari experience at Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve was exceptional. The knowledgeable guides ensured that we got up close and personal with a variety of animals, making it an educational and thrilling adventure for the whole family. We were delighted to see so many different species in their natural habitat, which left us with a sense of wonder and appreciation for the diversity of wildlife.
Overall, our day trip to Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve exceeded our expectations in every way. It was a perfect blend of excitement, education, and family bonding. We highly recommend this reserve to anyone looking for an unforgettable safari experience.

Cars can go for safari here, if you don’t have car then you can choose open safari vehicle. There is a feeding time for lions, wild dogs, cheetahs. There is a cave, visit it. This area is safe. The staffs are friendly. It is completely outside of Johannesburg. While returning it would be tough to get taxis using bolt or uber. Come here at 9 or 10 AM and spend enough time here. 3 hours could be enough but with kids, you can spend more time. Photographers must bring good zooming lens.

Montecasino is a top casino in Johannesburg with a range of attractions for couples and families to enjoy together, such as an awesome bird park. It's also great for responsible gambling and has plenty of restaurants and entertainment options to choose from.
Fantastic entertainment venues. Amazing restaurant. Great feel to the place so much choice . Massive casino, cinema. Huge outdoor are that has a huge screen showing sporting fixtures. Loads for kids to do also . Every type of restaurant you could want . Fantastic Bird sanctuary next door . Well worth a visit.

Still in great nick, well maintained, awesome selection of eateries, from both fast food to finer dining. The casino is also great fun and worth spending an hour or so trying to win the big one. There was a superb collection of vintage cars on show ahead of an auction, added to the overall feeling of a few hours well spent.

Monte is always a great place to go unwind.
I am not a gambler so the casino has no attraction for me. Fortunately the supporting restaurants, stores and entertainment venues are more than enough to keep even a non gambler entertained.
The restaurants are for the most part well priced and there is an excellent range so you can enjoy it on a budget.
The security is a great advantage as you can feel comfortable with letting the teens roam free without supervision and there are plenty of activities for them too.
Overall I think everyone should visit at least once to take in the sights and experience but I am confident that having visited once you will want to return again and again.

So many beautiful restaurants, casino to play, movies, food courts, arcade, bowling, laser tag, plays, desserts, shopping, everything. Lots of restaurants and theaters. Fun place to visit, but we missed the legendary sky painted roof? It was very dark inside the casino and very busy. Avoid peak hours if you get anxious in crowds! I am not really big on places that have birds or animals kept in enclosures or for shows but I must say the animals and birds look pretty well looked after and most have good space to roam. One fun activity is feeding the ducks with special duck pellets but please only feed the ducks as they tell you. Otherwise, it's an interesting, interactive place for couples and families to explore together. Lots of interesting birds, reptiles and monkeys to see etc.

We went for a bird show and paid full price for 4 adults and 2 kids - all we got was a bird talk. A bit disappointing that we weren't told that there wasn't a bird show taking place that day. The garden areas were well kept and restaurant area good. Before you buy tickets at the front office, they should disclose if the bird show is taking place or not. Otherwise do a discounted ticket option without the show...

My family loved it. It's just big enough to get your muscles working in the open air but small enough to not become monotonous. The animals are all well-kept and have the freedom to roam the main enclosure so you get a real sense for the animals as you would find them out in the wild. The gardens are beautiful, and my kids enjoyed the bird show. Stunning place, very wild and natural.
Lovely exploration to discover beautiful rock pools.
Staff are friendly.
Old school rustic and clean cabins.
The shop at the office could be better stocked with food.
Went for a hike, the pathway wasn’t obvious so we did get lost but the scary part was spotting a massive baboon nearby at the top of a hill in the rocks.
I love being in the wild but that was too close for comfort.
With nowhere to go, we had to think very clearly on how to backtrack from a potentially life death situation.
Thankfully I’ve lived to write this review, it’s stunning but that was dangerous.
We thought we were safe with leaving a burglar bar window open in our cabin but the monkey entourage invaded by sending a baby monkey in. It’s true, monkeys like bananas and milk tarts etc, and they don’t like pineapples although they’ll have a go!
Lovely place and I’d like to go back, but need to rethink the hiking trail bit.

Simply my favorite spot to go camping. Nice sites with ample shade and everything is always well maintained. A short hike about 2km (or 30 mins) walk to the pool. Make sure you confirm directions before you take off, and then you should be fine (its easy to get lost if you're not sure). When you get to the actual pool, there's a bit of a rock climbing involved, but completely worth it!

Any visot to Bill Harrops is special. They run a magnificent operation. It's amazing to float off into the distance with only the sound of the odd burst of flame and hot air into the balloon. To finish off an amazing experience there is a breakfast fit for kings to be had. Pastries bacon eggs fruit yogurt is in abundance. The variety is spectacular and all tastes catered for. This is something everybody needs to experience.... really well done Bill Harrops!!¡

Wow, what an amazing and special experience! We were suprized with a flight in the private basket after we had to postpone our original trip for our anniversary. Michael was such a great pilot and gave us the best possible experience, being such a calm and confident person. The breakfast was also such a spoil. All around amazing staff and amazing experience! Highly highly recommend to anyone who has this on their bucket list.

Such an incredible experience! It’s like floating around on a cloud and getting a bird’s eye view of everything. So very peaceful during the sunrise flight too. Highly professional and skilled staff, from the pilot to the cooks. Would do it again and again

One of my best experiences to date.
From seeing the setting up of the balloons over a cup of hot coffee and muffins to the thrill of soaring in the sky everything was amazing. There were experience pilots that were friendly and took care of all the passengers. The breakfast at the Pavilion was great and they made extra sure that we were taken care of by providing Halal meals. Overall, everything was well organized and was a great experience.

What an experience. On arrival we were checked in, enjoyed a hot drink and cookies. Spectacular views from the top with a fantastic pilot. After landing we celebrated with campaign / orange juice. We were welcomed back with a lovely breakfast, and to top off the experience we received certificates for our bravery.

What a surreal experience!!! I’ve never dealt with such friendly people - from the moment I emailed them to the actual flight, everyone was so kind and helpful. Nadia was patient and accommodating via email. Monique made my morning on the day of the flight, she was excited and encouraging. And Flip? A amazing and funny pilot. The The flight was celestial, highly recommend. Met some cool people on the flight too, pity I couldn’t stay for breakfast, but will definitely be coming back soon.

We flew with them for my wife’s birthday and the professional and friendly team made her day all the more wonderful! Shoutout to Michael, our pilot, who flew his first commercial flight with us!

Absolutely lovely. Well organized set up from when you arrive to fireplaces lit every where to hot coffee while you watch them set up as the dawn breaks. Our pilot was brilliant with a fine sense of humor. He even landed the balloon on the trailer, most impressive. We had Mimosas as we landed and finished the morning off with a delicious breakfast at the Pavillion. Thank you for an unforgettable experience
Aha Lesedi Cultural Village is an eco-lodge situated in the rocky hills outside Johannesburg, offering bright rooms that showcase a tribal-inspired design. The lodge comprises traditional homesteads representing various tribal cultures such as Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Ndebele and Basotho. It provides a unique opportunity to experience South Africa's diverse cultural heritage firsthand with great performances of drumming, dancing and singing by talented locals.
Please bear in mind that the village has not had income for two years due to covid. They are so grateful for every single tourist who visits. They bend over backwards to be helpful and their enthusiasm is contagious. This is a super entertaining and educational experience. We slept over and ate with the guys. It was truly awesome and we cannot recommend the experience more highly.

We went for the lunch and dance with the tour around the villages, was such a great experience to learn some things about the culture. Was interactive playing drums and learning a few hello words for each culture. Bring your camera .Food was amazing , though not sure what was on the menu, plenty of gifts to buy as well. Fantastic experience that you should definitely check out. Just wear good shoes though walk isn't huge the path a little uneven and for the elderly you may need wheel chair or walker as I seen some get tired on the tour.

I came for the tour and lunch, at and it was fabulous! I really enjoyed learning about the local traditions. The only thing I wished they would improve is selling a guidebook with all the information they shared during the tour.

We just went to their tour, show and lunch, no overnight stay. We really enjoyed the dances in particular. The lunch was very good and I would advise adding it into the tour and show.

You experience culture and peace in seclusion. Funny but good thing is the place evokes respectful, accomodative, inclusion and neighbourly vibe among guests. You experience cultural dance and singing. Housekeepers and hosts and hostess make you feel so at home you'd feel weird if someone addressed you as sir or ma'am. There are TVs in the rooms for some of us who are "addicts," but of course if it distorts the ambience for you, you can treat it as abstract decor😊.

The main meals are good but the tea cookies not so great. The dancers and tour guide are professional. Accommodation is not too bad but there's no fridge, iron in the room. The aircon was not working but the ceiling fan stood in the gap. The mood is good and rural especially for an urban dweller.

Drumming session was amazing. The cultural aspect and story telling through dancing very good. Food amazing, great variety with crocodile and real South African food. The hotel part is good, but for day-visitors the experience and facilities is not the same that 8 years ago.
aha need to give Lesedi a bit of TLC. To many small infrastructral problems show and maintanance must be priority.
Update: So I visited yesterday after a couple months and I can see the place is busy with renovations painting. Lots of tourist for the day. Food very good. Defnitly some improvements.

This is very basic. The cultural experience is incredibly noisy with mainly drums & dancers. The food is very basic. The rooms are also not of a high standard with limited electrical sockets in awkward to reach places

The rooms look great, it really looks like a cultural village. The service is just okay, not bad and not great, they don't have a water dispenser at breakfast which is shocking. I enjoyed my breakfast and dinner was just okay and not exciting. I love that we get to eat a lot of veggies at dinner. The location is perfect, there's a lot of activities

Although it's quite a distance from where i live. Im glad that i got to experience this wonderful heritage and cultural preservation space. I learnt a great deal from the knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. The dancers are so fit and full of passion and energy. I highly recommend this experience and environment. A true national tressure.

We paid for the dance and dinner package. The dance was okay. The dinner was a huge disappointment. Not only was the buffet limited to a few selections, the food was cold cold, the beef stew was stone cold, it was inedible. We told the waitress about it and she just mumbled something and shrugged us off and vanished.
Same with the dessert, the custard was cold.
Were were told dinner is served from 6 - 8pm. Were were there at
6:45pm, so it cant be a case of being late and found them ready to pack up.
If it hadn't been for the fact that we had already paid for the buffet and were tired and were also not so familiar with the area, we would not have eaten there and gone to find dinner elsewhere.
We went there for a one night stay only (Sat night). Did not do the tour.
