A must do if doing a Namib desert self drive! Jaw dropping views at the summit of this pass. Truly epic and the steep drive down is also memorable. The sheer vastness is hard to capture
Lania Rock — Google review
One of the best views in Namibia. Rarely topped. The absolute sunrise/set place to be at. A tip for the driver: Take it SLOW!
Holger Binding — Google review
My first mountain pass with paved road :)
Probably too hot for tarmac. In itself, quite nice with one vantage point. Short detour, yes, but probably worth it.
virtuosok — Google review
Great scenery, worth the stop during the drive. Be careful on those roads.
Max Morsia — Google review
Great views off D1275 road toward Khomas region. Nice stop for lunch and taking a rest while driving between Solitaire and Windhoek. Dangerous road so drive carefully. Was rather dirty when we were here.
Oran Davis — Google review
Fantastic view of the Namib Desert, no matter what time of year
Ronja Lyhs — Google review
Beautiful views and the steeper windier approach from the west is paved really nicely. It seems new. Was not unsafe at all and could drive with 2WD car.
Hung Ma — Google review
Just one more of many beautiful scenic views in Namibia.
Nosipho Mthembu — Google review
It is an absolute thrill to drive and see that amazing view

Very nice view on top. Definitely worth a little detour. Did this as part of our windhoek to Sesriem drive.

Awesome. Nature in all glorious elements. A highlight for every tourist
Red sandstone castle built in the early 20th century, now a museum housing antiques & paintings.
A must see, stepping into the past. Beautifully maintained, wish more people could visit to see..
Debra Sachse — Google review
Although the castle will be closed for accommodation and the camp site closed until they're both renovated, they are currently allowing day visits where you can take pictures and take your time exploring the castle.
The property does not take credit or debit cards so bring cash. There is no restaurant on the property but a few meters away you can get some refreshments and alcohol beverages from Duwiseb Guest Farm. There is also a souvenir shop, no food served to day customers.
Nosipho Mthembu — Google review
No need for tickets, we were the only ones there; a German built castle in a rural area, permit was N$70 to visit the entire building and got given a tour by the nice gentleman at the door.
Jack — Google review
It is open again for day visitors, 80 namibiam dollars entrance fee/person. You get a nice short tour and can then roam around on your own. Also undergoing renovation to host overnight guests soon (~2025) again.
Space Monk — Google review
It is a very nice place with such rich history. The reason I rate it so low is because of NWR (Namibian Wildlife reserves) neglect of the place. We arrived at 10:30. Had to wait about 20min for someone to come and open up.
No maintenance at all. Toilets does not even work. Not cleaned in months perhaps. Such a shame NWR....And i must add, this goes for ALL 6 of your reserves I visited. You should be a shamed of yourself...
A well traveled tourist from South Africa.
Rico Terblanche — Google review
They only take cash, N$ 60.00 per person. We had no cash and could not pay any other way, so had to continue our journey. What a pitty!
Heiko Lucks — Google review
Castle is run by goverment and accommodation currently closed since covid. Maintenance not up-to-date. Else a beautiful building
Hendrik Kruger — Google review
Watch out when you enter the ladies toilet.
Two staff members kindly opened the castle for us on the 1st of January. We paid 80Namibian dollars each. (5 people)After a very interesting visit my daughter and myself entered the ladies toilet. We locked the door. We were talking, laughing and with a very casual move we were very lucky to discover that one of the staff members was hiding quietly behind the shower curtain. This came as a shock, you can imagine. This Castle is managed by the Namibian Government. The castle is really worth the visit, and we were really looking forward to learning more about it. What a shame we had to experience this.
Sita Revenga — Google review
Small but lovely place with an interesting history, we did a short stop during our trip and were happy to see it - it something really special you do not find anywhere else in Namibia :-)

Lovely old castle
Reinhardt Grobler — Google review
A little run down, but worth a visit. Friendly staff, and one can have a cold drink in the shady courtyard. Accommodation is available in the courtyard, but also excellent at next door rest camp.
Marike Colyn — Google review
Castle between somewhere and nowhere in Namibia, managed by NWR, offers accommodation and meals. Interesting, could do with a good cleaning.
Hannelie Kay — Google review
Really interesting history behind this house, and so well preserved. If you want a sneak peak into the history of a well to do family in Namibia, in the early 1900s, this is a must visit. Very friendly staff and they give you an informational sheet to read more about the people who lived there. I just wish their little cafe had more vegetarian/vegan options, but I guess I understand it's in the middle of the desert. Perhaps some beans and veg?

Peace and quiet! Watch out for the monkeys though. Ablutions are clean. Hot water late afternoon. Camping site is clean and safe. Kids are safe to play around camping site.
Lilani Radley — Google review
Wonderful location to be off the grid. However, with campers coming and going, one doesn’t feel isolated as this is a very popular and unspoilt spot. Velvet monkeys were a real nuisance, ablutions not serviced. True 4x4 destination for the outdoor lover!
Laurence Munro — Google review
Late April we had a very enjoyable four day stay at De Hoop camp site on the bank of the Orange River. The days were very hot (above 30°C), but we could go for regular swims in the river. Ablution facilities were more than adequate for the number of people there at the time. One has to take own firewood and also take all rubbish with when vacating the camp site. The camp sites were all litter free on arrival (and departure!). Will go there again sometime.
Jan Scholtz — Google review
It’s for real campers, but it’s so amazing! A breath of fresh air after driving through the dry, rocky Richtersveld. We arrived, parked as close to the river as we could and had a braai. Didn’t use the ablutions, but they seemed neat and clean. We took a swim in the river and enjoyed nature. (The stars are incredible!)
Simonè Griessel — Google review
This is the main or biggest camp site in the park, mlst people choose to stay here, so can be slightly crowded. Shady Camping spots are limited and there are very few places to go up to the Orange River. Would recommend the other camps in the park which are alot more wild and quiet.
Kálmán Kozma — Google review
A great spot to experience the Richtersveld with the Orange River on your camps edge, some shade. Can be windy and sadly a bit overcrowded since the 2022/23 floods damaged many of the other camps in yhe Park and this is now the preferred spot.
Chris Henstock — Google review
Great campsite. Ablutions very clean great hit showers from solar. Right on the orange river. Take tubes to go down on the Rapids and super hot the weather, so it swimming most of the day to keep cool. We spent 2 wonderful days here with our friends, 6 of us. The last 50metres to get nto the campsite very rocky. Keep an eye out for the vervett monkeys. Not many trees. We all parked under the largest tree there was. Can get very windy
Rhona Currell — Google review
Wonderful camp sites on the rivers edge. Only 1 toilet available as the others were locked. A bit frustrating as camp was a bit busy. But otherwise a fantastic stay.
Sprawling area featuring granite cliffs & a natural cascade dropping from a height of 60 meters.
The best time to go is just after a flood, during dry seasons the falls can be very sparse but after major rainfall it is absolutely breathtaking.
Hiking trails may be closed after major flooding but if you can go on the trails it is stunning as well.
Riyaan Moosa — Google review
We loved staying here. The waterfalls were amazing. The camping site is only gravel you not allowed onto the grass which is a shame. The bathrooms were clean and well looked after. We did 2 hikes and had a great time. We also had coffee in the restaurant which was the best ever.
Philippa Liesching — Google review
Awesome experience to see Augrabies in flood. We stayed at a chalet that was very basic but very neat with a AIRCON. The service at the restaurant is a bit slow but the food is great. The little shop is also well stocked, from ponchos to meat and wine.
Kelvin Carolus — Google review
We have been to Augrabies Falls National Park many years ago and can recall that it was 'nothing to boast about'. We made a reservation for 17 September 2023 , as we were on our way to the Richtersveld. What a surprise awaited us! Our chalet was spanking clean, well-equipped and provided us with everything we needed. The reception staff was super-friendly and the shop well stocked. Everyone we came across were willing to assist, approachable and professional. This was such an improvement compared to our earlier visit... We consequently spontaneously booked their again for 27 September 2023 on our way back. The Reception staff again were so, so helpful and accommodating. The damage after the last floods was actually quite unfortunate but it didn't stop us from taking some lovely pictures.... Well done, Sanparks and Augrabies Falls staff. You are worthy of this feather in your cap!
Trudie Grobler — Google review
What a fantastic experience to finally have visited the place of great noise. Yes, the more rain and heavier the falls, the greater the noise from even a distance away.
I was very impressed with how Sanparks are managing the park. From the first security checkpoint at the main gate, to the visitors center at reception. Everything is clean, neat and well maintained. Friendly staff greet visitors as you walk through. Toilets are in good repair and nice and clean.
There is a curio shop offering a variety if curios and light snacks and drinks. There is also a restaurant, but we only ordered takeout coffee and tea.
The pathways to the falls are well marked and offer a wheelchair friendly option.
The viewing decks are safe and provide beautiful views of the falls and gorge. I hope that the parks board will repair the section closed to the public that was damaged in the recent floods.
A beautiful place to visit and the small fee is worth every penny!
Emeralda Els — Google review
Trail next to river is beautiful and disabled friendly.
Staff was helpful. There are still areas that you cannot access due to floods.
Fransisca Badenhorst — Google review
Hot as hell but the experience of a lifetime!
There was quite a queue when we arrived but it moved quickly and efficiently. It's not often that you get to see the falls in all its splendour, it's awesome to see.
The park and facilities are excellent, the walkways allow easy access to the falls. Visit the upper viewing decks first and then the lower decks to cool off in the spray. Prepare yourself to get soaked (don't wear a white shirt 😉🤣)
Christie-Lee Kruger — Google review
Plan this visit to coincide with good rains it is really majestic. Take the whole day, walk down river, stop at the different viewing points. Then refresh yourself at their restaurant then off you go on your own game drive. This is another heritage site that they are doing an AWESOME job of protecting. Toilets and general area are well kept and clean
I do believe you can camp there. It is simply refreshing
Sharon Autef — Google review
Park is well kept and very neat. One of the best SANPARKS I have visited.
Food at restaurant was also very well priced, very fast and tasty
Benita Boshoff — Google review
Waterfall was not as full as expected. Walkways were damaged due to past floods so limited viewing of the falls but beautiful in anycase.
Ghaneemah Wallace — Google review
Beautiful place. The small shop on premises has more than enough stuff. You can buy all the most necessary things there.
Sadly there is damage to the deck but they are busy repairing it.
Nice and clean.
LRMI Huisvader — Google review
Wow, what an awesome place. The units were well maintained and had everything that one needs (except an oven). The convenience store also had most of the stuff that one needs. Then the scenery and the falls are incredible.
Nick Dempers — Google review
Camped for two nights in the middle of March. Temperatures reached 42 degrees Celsius! Be prepared to spend lots of time in the pool.
Day visitors have their own section with braais and a pool.
A drive through the park is well worth the effort as well as going on one of the numerous hiking trails.
Willi von Borstel — Google review
As an arid national park, this place is super unique. The accomodation options are many and the campsite is really great. There are few self-drive options around the park to take in the scenery and animals. The viewing decks are spectacular and it is a beautiful place to enjoy and relax in. The little shop has all the essentials (ice, wood, snacks etc) and staff are all friendly and helpful. There is a restaurant too which serves a wide range of food options.
Angela Kavallieratos — Google review
The campsite is great. It has all the amenities you need and there is sufficient shaded spots for tents, campers or caravans.
Camp sites is first come first serve basis and a suggestion would be to take a ground sheet with as the sites is all sand.
Walkway and viewing points at the waterfall is safe, well maintained and greatly positioned. There were some walkways damaged during the last flood, but they were closed out properly.
The park provides fuel, gift shop and a restaurant.
Cobus Marais — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking waterfall and surrounding nature.. Also enjoyed a lovely breakfast at the restaurant - delicious and affordable..
Berdine Botha — Google review
The Augrabies Falls is certainly worth a visit if one is traveling through the Orange River area. Very scenic as well as a game park to drive through.
Terence Paul — Google review
Fantastic getaway location showcasing a gorgeous raw landscape! The game-drive area is absolutely stunning! Friendly staff, clean facilities and good food and supplies at the restaurant and shop.
Belinda van Aswegen — Google review
Wow! Amazing place to visit. Very quiet when we visited (a weekday in late April) and it felt like we had the park almost to ourselves. The self drive tour on the farthest loop - Quiver Loop - took 4.5 hours at a leisurely pace on a quiet day. The Waterfall is a short walk from the reception, the first platform is on a flat path, the others are a short walk over uneven rocks.
Louise Rowan — Google review
The staff are genuinely lovely - I immediately felt safe and welcomed. The walkways are under repair from the floods, which isn't anyone's fault, and we were still able to get nice photos.
The restaurant was super cool and comfy on an excruciatingly hot day. The bathrooms were also clean and stocked.
It's obvious that everyone working there is passionate about conservation and providing a great place for everyone to connect with nature. I hope our international visitors enjoy it as much as I did!
Zoe Hinis — Google review
Beautiful park, so pleased we insisted on making the addition to our trip. The falls rumble, splash, mist and take your breath away. Saw lots of little critters around. Definitely worth the detour when traveling through the region. Accommodation is clean, updated, comfortable, has aircon, all other amenities and is not affected by loadshedding as they have a generator. There are many swimming pools that are well kept, blue and clean. Service is impeccable and the restaurant is great. A must visit.
Mischa Muller — Google review
What a beautiful place, we really enjoyed our stay here ❤️ the views are magnificent and the Dassies were so cute. Accommodation was great with clean spacious rooms and several swimming pools to cool off at the end of your day. Certain parts of the walkways were under repair from the last floods damage. Staff were friendly and a restaurant and shop are available for your convenience.
D King — Google review
Last time I was here I gave the falls a five star rating. The water was high the viewing places were all open and the quadruple charges for foreigners irritated me less. This time it’s different. Firstly I wonder what justification there is for over charging foreigners in government run parks in South Africa? To make more money? For whom? Foreigners bring in huge amounts of money across the board in hotels restaurants etc etc already. Why does the government not stimulate their interest in parks instead of penalties based on cost discrimination. So are us foreigners supporting the costs of infrastructure in the parks because the government can’t afford to do so? Let’s see. After two years (plus) a simple chain ladder in the Drakensberg National Park is still not mended, and now I see that after 12 months nothing has been done to repair the wooden walk ways at Augrabies. What is happening to our money? It’s not as if either repair work is complex. It would take a few people with a few tools a few days to fix the issues. What actually is going on ?

Always a winner. We reserved a special room number ahead of time. Upon our arrival, we were overjoyed to learn that the room was, in fact, reserved for us as per the relevant request (room 11). We loved our stay- no complaints whatsoever. The room was clean and tidy - large fridge for all our travel goodies and an excellent aircon to keep us cool in the heat. The staff were super friendly and efficient. They offer a restaurant on premises and a great convenience store , which caters for every convenience you need. Great stay. Highly recommended.
Roxy Janzen — Google review
The accomodation was functional, clean and everything at the shop and reception was well organised and efficient. Staff are all very helpful and friendly. Abundant birdlife. Good place for a stop over on a long road. Spectacular views from the lookouts.
Unit 42: Equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Clean towels and linnen (2 single beds).
Dinie Dreyer — Google review
Went to see the falls in the morning. Great choice as it gets hot. But properly hot!
Some walkways have not been repaired since last year's floods, but the views are spectacular.
Must be one of the wonders of the world.
Jon Gericke — Google review
What an amazing experience...it was 43 degrees the day we visited, would be really great if canopies could be put up at the lookout points just for some shade. We literally took photos and ran because it was do hot.
We spent the night in their Airbnb room and were totally taken aback with the great experiences we had tasting brandy, delicious food, strolling through the lush gardens and playing with the dogs! An absolute treat!
Suzette Weideman — Google review
Drive through a beautiful vineyard where you can stop and take pictures. Thank you to the super friendly staff members. We couldn't tour the distillery because there was a wedding at the time of our visit. Tasty wines. Overall, it was a good tasting activity, and I enjoyed it. It's definitely worth a visit.
Thato Kilelo — Google review
Aswome experience, one of the must go destinations . Friendly staff , great food and the best dog ever to keep you company if you miss yours being at home .
Bouers Industrial S.A High Pressure water Jetting — Google review
Wine tasting is great but their platters are a dissapointment...4 × heat and eat chicken nuggets for R70...you can purchase an entire box for R40 at any supermart...leaves a very bitter taste after a sweet wine tasting...expected much better class from a seemingly classy winery.
Conrad van Deventer — Google review
Stop over enroute to Kgalagadi. Nice accommodation and restaurant. Working farm with accommodation in Old farm house, well equipped with lots of braai wood. Friendly and accommodating owner and staff. Complementary wine and brandy tasting.
Deon Van Der Walt — Google review
What a wonderful experience. Great setting with great wine. We stayed in the old farmhouse and loved every minute of it. The fairytale garden is also great with the cute statues.
Nick Dempers — Google review
Wonderful accommodation. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was also good. We attended a tasting and it was a wonderful experience. The tasting hostess was very knowledgeable and super entertaining. Giving 4 stars because the chalet I booked was double booked and they had to put us in two separate rooms.
Amy — Google review
Had a great time.
Rooms are beautiful.
Service is excellent!
Louisa du Plessis — Google review
I loved the tranquility of the farm house. The restaurant and wine tasting was great. We stayed a day longer than planned due to the friendly service at the venue. We loved the fairy garden.
Carine Van Zyl — Google review
We stopped at this beautiful farm. This place is a must visit. We received a fantastic experience from the owner who took us through the potstill Brandy making process. I learnt so much. Lovely little shop.
Hein de Wit — Google review
Extremely friendly staff and real bang for your buck. The tasting of wine, brandy, liquors and "infernos" was very enjoyable and delicious, such a wide variety.
The buildings are beautiful and such a great farmstay, walked in the winyards with their dog and had a quick stargaze absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommended.
Wonderful experience. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great time, best Gin ever
Jo H — Google review
Amazing wine and spirit tasting and pairing options! The food is great value for money too. The premises are well-maintained, clean and welcoming with indoor seating options plus a festive bar and shaded seating outside. I’d love to come back in future!
Nicole van der Watt — Google review
We were expecting wine cellers at this location as the tasting room is linked to the cellers which is unfortunatly located outside of the town and not open to any tours.
When you set this aside the tasting room was a refreshing experience with a small shop on the one side and a restaurant integrated on the floor of the shop and further tucked into the back of the premises.
I found the prices very fair and if you are looking for some samples of local produce at good prices then look no further. The prices of the fortified wines were especially good. The restaurant itself also served amazing ribs and other great dishes.
Wybrand Ganzevoort — Google review
Great atmosphere!! Exceptional service. A combination of quality wines and food...an awesome experience...
Cathleen Feris — Google review
Place looks decent, however service is really bad, after ordering food it took atleast 45minute to arrive. Our waitress asked us if we need anything, to which i asked for mustard for my chips, however it never arrived. After many attempts of asking the other waitresses to call our waitress, she came long after we finished eating. So it was a really unpleasant and infuriating experience. Also food was not very appetizing, really average ill give it a 4 out of 10.

Cosy place with beautiful art work! The coffee is amazing and the food is great! The service is also very friendly!

It's one of the greatest places you mustn't miss to visit when you visit Upington, excellent service and customer care.
The customer is king here, you get the detailed explanation about their wines and how to pair them. I wish I could have the whole day here, it's a therapeutic environment.
Bhekani Radebe — Google review
This is a very elegant restaurant worth visiting... From their wine tasting, gin tasting, food and service... Excellent at large... I had a wonderful time and experience 👌👌👌

Driving through Upington seeing all these signs showing turn here for the Orange River Cellars Tasting Room we were quickly convinced that we cant miss this experience on our way back to Gauteng- On arrival we were welcomed by very friendly staff and were amazed how beautiful the tasting room is. We were treated like royalty and tasted over 10 wine & liqueurs- We were impressed by the verity and quality of the wines and would definitely recommend this to all.
Andre Tonkin — Google review
I drove into Upington without a plan and landed on the idea to do wine tasting. And what a great idea it turned out to be. ORC Bistro has amazing food and the wine selection for tasting is vast enough (and affordable) to keep you busy the whole afternoon. Take two or three of your friends with, to heighten the experience a bit more. The service was definetly icing on an already delicious cake. 😊

Home to many endangered species, this park offers a variety of accommodations, plus flyfishing.
Mokala National Park is BEAUTIFUL! Everywhere you looked there were animals, even if you weren't looking, there were animals! Me and my dad stayed at Kameeldoring Pan Tree Top Cottage and it was wonderful. Animals came right up to the water hole behind. 10/10 totally recommend Mokala!!
Andrea Schroeder — Google review
What an excellent park a gem which is underutilised. The campsite has only 6 stands which is very nice. The private ablution is spacious it is only the roof at the breakfast nook that need some extension if it rain, which we had a lot. The park will see us again in the near future.
Peet Du Plessis — Google review
Very beautiful small park. The accommodation at Lilydale on the Rietriver was perfect. Saw lots of different animals.
Johan M?ller — Google review
Really wonderful day out! Great service whenever there was needed and the scenery was incredible. Plentiful wildlife
André Dreyer — Google review
We recently visited Mokala National Park for the first time, and I cannot believe how under-rated the park is. It is one of the most tranquil parks with such incredible serenity and beauty. We are regular Kruger Park visitors and Mokala can easily be compared to Northern Kruger’s peace and tranquillity. The diversity of wildlife, birdlife and habitats were breathtaking. We stayed at Mosu lodge (and even though the restaurant is no longer in existence) the camp was lovely with very warm and friendly staff. We will without a doubt be returning to this gem of a park.
Ivan Putter — Google review
Brilliant National Park! Book the Motswedi Tree Top Cottage for a romantic and excellent stay. We didn't even need to go on a game drive as the animals came to us...
Vanessa Raath — Google review
This is a beautiful park with a lot of wildlife. We drove from the Lilydale gate and immediately saw various animals on the short drive to Lilydale rest camp. From Lilydale to Mosu rest camp is about an hour's drive, so be sure to have time when visiting the park. Will recommend spending about two days in the park to truly experience it.
Marleen — Google review
What a gem we've discovered! We were referred by a friend and can't thank her enough... We thoroughly enjoyed each moment of our comfortable stay at Mosu Lodge and our extremely rewarding game drive at Mokala National Park. Our unit was situated close to the water hole and we could sit and watch game coming to drink water - until late. The unit was a comfortable, well-equipped and an impeccable home-away-from-home.
Animals are plenty - and the variety impressive. The staff excelled and we need to mention the most accommodating Receptionist - if I recall correctly, her name is Emma. She was just so helpful - even provided us with an power extension to keep our fridge running in our vehicle. Parking at reception and having to use miniature trolley's/trailers to transport luggage to the units, were new to us :-) At least we had some exercise! The only 'draw-back' would be the bad condition of the corrugated road one has to travel - but the superb destination justifies the drive. We will most definitely be back to this very, very special park...
Trudie Grobler — Google review
This an extraordinary park with huge potential BUT the access road is a disaster and totally ruins the experience. Corrugations means you take 2 hours to do 21km. Something needs to be done as it's not going to encourage visitors.
Beth Muller — Google review
We enjoyed the game watching very much! The picnic areas are clean and neat, and the toilets were clean, had toilet paper and running water.
Accommodation at Mosu Lodge was good. Beds are comfortable and there are enough blankes to stay warm at night, and the units have aircons. Kitchens are well equiped. There is a generator, so loadshedding is not a problem.

What a gem. Everything was beautiful, staff friendly, we can't wait for our next weekend.
Anna-Marié Haarhoff — Google review
An amazing game reserve! Well maintained facilities at the campsites, lodges and picnic sites. Extremely friendly and helpful staff! Well done to Sanparks. The campsite and tree top cottage were fantastic. We will definitely return.
Gareth Preiss (XplorationSA) — Google review
Roads leading to the park corrugated but park roads not bad, travelling slowly is in fact well maintained. Camping sites fridges and two plate gas burner not operated with good practice. Only one gas bottle without a switch over manifold witch results in reactive gas replenishments and out of proper freezing capacity for 12-14 hours and meat ant other frozen foods thawing. NOT the recommend practice!!!
Wow! What a special place! Greg was the best ranger and really went the extra mile to point out ALL the tigers to us. The 1 on 1 time with the cheetahs was super special! Definitey planning to return for a sleepover in the canyon lodge, which is breathtaking!

Words cannot do justice.
We, 2 couples are well travelled are various safari lodges) reserves and this is by far the best experience we have had. Ade is exceptional, so interesting, informative and best of all enthusiastic. Ade being an excellent photographer, will, if possible always locate the vehicle in the very best position. Tigers, cheetah, birds.. don't expect anything else as if anything else is roaming around ( that can't fly) it's eaten, you must consider that the tiger is the pinnacle of the food chain

We enjoy Tiger Canyon because it is a unique travel destination that offers beautiful experiences while contributing meaningfully to big cat conservation.

My time at Tiger Canyon was nothing short of amazing! Kirsty and staff are super friendly and always ready to attend to your every need. The chef/s prepared the most scrumptious meals which I thoroughly enjoyed. Jani was our guide on the game drives, she is incredibly knowledgeable and made our trip unforgettable. The highlight of the trip for me was being able to approach the cheetahs on foot and snap some incredible pictures! Hoping to visit again in the very near future :)

Tiger Canyon Private Game Resort
Tigers in Africa ? How unusual …. These is a reserve with tigers kept in the wild open fields of Africa. The resort is highly private and exclusive … with just three rooms. We enjoyed our three days there. The game drives were excellent. Our guide was Adie … A young man that is extremely well read about tigers and other wild animals. He was so enthusiastic and made each of our game drives so special. We saw a lot tigers … and enjoyed the entire experience. The hospitality at the resort was the best. Warm and welcoming. Excellent food.

For any nature lover, a visit to Tiger Canyon is a must. It is an exceptionally unique experience being able to view Tigers up close in the wild, together with the fantastic guidance provided by Adi and Daniella. The Cheetah sightings were also wonderful. Adi put in every effort to maximise our photographic experience of the Tigers, Cheetah, bird life, landscapes, insects and every other aspect of Tiger Canyon’s wildlife diversity. The lodge setting, the staff, the service, the food and the friendliness were all superb. This is one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences available in our country.

We wanted to see tigers - and we did. The big cats are amazing. The accomodation is luxurious as is the food and service. The walks with cheetahs and cubs were very special. Not sure what the future holds for the tigers though.

Second visit in 5 months says it all. Awesome experience to be so close to these amazing cats. Cuteness overload with Oria's very photogenic cubs. We were very fortunate to have Adi as our guide, though the other guides are just as friendly, relaxed and very knowledgeable. We have had 4-5 hour game drives several times and great effort is made to ensure their guests have an unbelievable experience. We stayed in the beautiful Zaria Suite on both occasions. The hospitality is excellent and the food very good.

The Owl House Nieu-Bethesda is a unique museum located in the quaint village of Nieu-Bethesda, around 50 kilometers from Graaff-Reinet in the Karoo region. It was once the home and artistic haven of Helen Martins, an eccentric recluse and sculptor.
A unique, strange and Interesting ode to a creative life. Unique style and so much creative experimentation over so many years. Sad and beautiful creativity
Steve van Wyngaard — Google review
After looking forward for so many years to see and experience the OWL HOUSE, I was a bit underwhelmed. Yes, there are statues in the garden, created by Helen Martin, but where are all the owls? - maybe I am missing something.
The inside of the house was much more interesting where she played with colour and glass to create certain moods.
The Owl House is a museum with history, short video, memorabilia and photos of her life and works. Entry is currently R75 pp.
Retha Hillman — Google review
It is a fantastically strange museum.
The outside sculptures are biblical.
The internal walls, doors and ceilings (and some sculptures) are covered in different colours of broken glass.
It was fascinating.

This has been on my bucket list for years and I finally got to visit! What a great privilege to experience the life of Helen Martins. The video was very informative.
Her home and the sculpture garden are so well preserved. Being among the sculptures brought on many emotions that can only be explained to someone that have also seen them before. A must!

This is the gem of the town and a must visit. The Owl House museum is truly a unique experience. Helen Martins has created a oasis of wonders within her own world.
Sander van Leusden — Google review
I've been to the Owl House three times and I've loved it each time. The statues all over the place and Helen's use of light and the materials at hand is incredible. It is like a different perspective on life.
Nick Dempers — Google review
World renowned, playwright, Athol Fugard's play "The road to Mecca" was inspired by the life of Helen Martins. A visit to Nieu Bethesda and the Owl House is definitely worthwhile from the beautiful scenery en route, the quaint village buildings to being transported back to a time when the strength and determination of a woman with a vision was reason to be spurned by a community.
M van Wyk — Google review
Beautiful, fascinating, and also a disturbing experience. Left me wanting to know more about Helen Martins and outsider art. Well worth a visit.

The Owl House in Nieu-Bethesda has a rather interesting yet tragic history to it - . not sure if I can say it's an enjoyable experience because I felt it to be creepy but I guess it's one of the 'must-do' when in Nieu-Bethesda . There is an entrance fee of R70 when we went which includes an 8 minute video of the history of Helen Martins and her work. There are lots of sculptures depicting religious journeys, owls, mermaids. We arrived in time for an hour's tour before they closed - but for me an hour was enough.
Enid Son — Google review
Nieu Bethesda about 50km from Graaff Reinet and the drive is quite scenic
Last bit of the road is gravel and there had been some flooding recently so they were working on parts of the road
The Owl House we found a bit odd and eerie at times. A sad and dark story. Some of the artwork was also interesting and a bit weird at the same time. Guess if you into art it maybe a bit more meaningful
The place is fairly easy to find and some really nice old houses in the town. It's important to note they only take cash or snapscan.
The tour starts off with a video of Helen Martins life and then you head off into the house, all self guided
Andre Hackart — Google review
It's an interesting place. A little overrated, to be honest, but combined with a visit to the town, makes for a good day trip or stopover.
You could spend 20 minutes here or 2 hours, just remember to carry a hat. There's some informal vendors selling some cool stuff outside at pretty fair prices.
Samil Purmeswar — Google review
Quite a nice surprise, was very interesting to see the artwork in the yard, the video at the beginning is a must. Would recommend that more information is provided to visitors by means of a staff member giving a bit of a guided tour through the property, their are many other stories to be told I am sure, which would enrich the experience even more. Entrance fee I paid was R100 pp. and I would recommend taking cash, as they only have snap-scan (app) facilities, I don’t believe they accept credit or debit cards

Wow!! what can I say. An absolute gem of a place. Well worth the detour to Cape Town. I got to meet Koos Malgas's daughter Joyce. Great travel spot for a road trip! xx

This was a visit and experience I will cherish for ever. What a wonderful mix of emotions, from absolute joy to tremendous sadness of the magnificent house. Helen really created a wonderland of statutes, embracing her creativity and empowering the community with her talent. A must visit when you are in the area or just heading to Graaf Reinet.

What a fascinating story - the artistic expressions by Helen Martins have been well maintained. The video was so informative - well scripted and presented.
The sculptures, the owls, the playfulness of light - definitely a stop worth making.

Definitely worth the visit, as Nieu-Bethesda depends on The Owl House to bring in visitors from all over the world. Prepare for an emotional journey through the mind of Helen Martins and Koos Malgas, her sculptor.
Camdeboo National Park boasts breathtaking views of sheer cliffs and rock formations that rise above the valley. The Valley of Desolation, a popular attraction within the park, is a stunning sight to behold with its hauntingly beautiful landscape. The rugged dolerite columns set against the backdrop of endless Karoo plains create an awe-inspiring contrast. Visitors can also catch a glimpse of Graaff-Reinet nestled in a bend of the Sundays River from the nearby Toposcope viewpoint. A 1.
Amazing view of the town and beautiful Karoo veld! Definitely recommend to make time to go up. It’s a tar road all the way to the top so any car can do it. You won’t regret it!
Kayla Steenkamp — Google review
This is a great place for sunset and sunrise shoots. It's scenic and a great place to experience. The road leading to the valley is narrow and a blind rise throughout. It requires patience and tolerance if they are too many vehicles going up. However, the views are breathtaking. Be it the views of the town or the valley, you won't be disappointed at all. In terms of opening and closing times, it's best to call and enquire as the online times can be incorrect. Great place for meeting travellers who appreciate nature.

We always said we want to go there. This time, on our way back home, we visited the Valley of Desolation. I was very impressed at the entrance, three Dusters- it felt heartwarming 😀🥰, or must I say people with good taste😉.
The staff at the gate was friendly and professional. We were welcomed and asked to complete forms. We paid the entrance fee. We stopped at the first viewpoint and climbed a few steps to the top. Guys, I am unfit and did it. So just get out it is worthwhile.
The scenery was beautiful, and you overlooked Graaff-Reinet. We took a few pics and went off to the main area.
Thank heavens, here were bathroom facilities and it is clean and hygienic. My mom and Alwyn have already started climbing the steps. We took it slow. I was impressed she made it to the top. For 83 years old, that is good.
That is the most stunning view. At first, you don't know where to look. The scenery is stunning. All the different rock formations. This was due to volcanic eruptions a few million years ago. Here, we stayed for a while. We tested the echo 😎 and it worked.
We only drove a short while through the park and saw some wild impala, Zebras, ostriches, but there is lots more to see.
I would suggest that you put this on your bucket list.
Elna Lombaard — Google review
A relatively easy walk up to viewing points. Try and catch the sunset if possible. Beautiful views and an easy tarred road to drive up to the parking areas.

Fantastic views...the drive up top is a bit dicey as narrow road so please drive with care.Another beautiful national park.

Utterly amazing. I wished we had more time to spend at the Camdeboo National Park. We used our Wildcards so didn't have to pay the entrance fee - it was R50 pp at the time we were there. It's a short drive to get to the view points and a short walk to see t get e epic views of the Valley of Desolation. There are no public amenities, such as coffee shops so make sure you bring your own food supplies. There is no shade and it gets extremely hot in the summer so be sure to put sunscreen and wear a hat and good walking shoes.

Words and pictures cannot give this credit. This you have to see for yourself. Unbelievable how wonderful nature is.

It's worth the visit. Takes some time to get to the top, but it is spectacular. Views of the town below are stunning.

Absolutely breathtaking.
I would recommend wearing proper shoes instead of flip-flops as there is a short hike on an elevated rock path
Adri Benade — Google review
Nice hidden gem near Graaf Reinette (actually right next to it), there is a fee for entering the conservation area and then a 200 odd meter hike to the viewing spot but very worth it. There is also a top-down view of Graaf Reinette which is pretty cool.
Ben Strachan — Google review
Entering through the Camdeboo National Park, with a small fee at the gate, you have the added bonus of spotting some animals on the way up the mountain.
Head up in the late afternoon for the most striking contrasts as the afternoon sun hits the rocks. We had an afternoon of dramatic clouds in the sky above as well, but it's ever changing over the valley.
The first view over the valley as you drive to the top is beautiful. But then you park the car and follow a rough path up to the main viewing spots - and the views are definitely worth every bit of effort in walking up that path!!
Stunning formations left by the standing rocks and boulders...with a sweeping valley falling away behind them. Just gorgeous!

Visit this amazing natural extraordinary site not to be missed. Valley of Desolation situated in SA National Park, 10 min from Graaff Reinet
Camdeboo National Park, located just outside Graaff Reinet, offers a rugged landscape with dry mountains and valleys. The park features iconic sites like the Valley of Desolation and the Cathedral of Mountains. Visitors can enjoy activities such as mountain biking, hiking, windsurfing, and canoeing at Nqweba Dam. Birdwatching and game viewing are popular here, with buffalo, springbok, and wildebeest residing within the park.
Very beautiful park. The tent decks have few people to compete with so it's relatively private. Excellent communal kitchen facilities. Well maintained. Beautiful with abundant wildlife and birds. Magnificent flora. We had an excellent time here. The accommodation is more than adequate and it's perfect to unwind and destress.

Landscape unique to the area of Graaff Reinet. Stone formations that let you feel you're in another world. You can take a drive directly to the Valley of Desolation on a good tarred road or you can spend a couple of hours in the park driving around. Toilet facilities at the top of the viewpoint parking area. A stoned walkway take you to the edge of the viewpoint where one of the outlooks has a shade roof for the hot days. Always beautiful bit late afternoon sun on the rocks let the colours stand out.

Most amazing sceneries. The park and all public areas like restrooms and picnic areas are very well kept and clean. The short 1.5km circular route is worth it and easy. Saw some wild which was asome.

Campsites have lots of thorn bushes, the vervet monkeys are very quick at taking things. Ablutions are not up to standard only 4 toilets and showers 2for females and 2 for males that's for the whole Campsite. The game drives were nice and Valley of desolation was beautiful. They also have tented campsite which were nicer

I enjoyed spending the day here. We started out with a hike to the valley of desolation.
We then had a picnic braai in the designated braai area. Afterwards we went for a drive through the nature reserve and observed many different aninals (blou apies, tortoise, birds and a variety of buck)
Definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area. Just take a hat, camera, sunscreen, and lots or water.

Awesome place to spend a couple of days. The tented accomodation is clean and the shared kitchen area is well equipped with allocated lockers with everything you need. Crockery, cutlery, glasses, toaster etc. Ablutions are clean and really enjoyed a nice hot shower. The monkeys are very naughty so keep your tent zipped closed.

Got ourselves a pass for all 5 Museums in Graaf Reinet. A must if you enjoy old buildings. A good way to see how people used to live. Was fascinated by the kitchens and the equipment used.
Unfortunately you are not allowed to take photos inside. But the staff was always welcoming. Grounds could be better maintained, it was a bit difficult for my elderly mom. A tea room would have been nice.

Graaff Reinette is a beautiful town with lovely historic buildings. A visit to the Reinett House will be a high light. Beautiful yellowwood beams in the roof. An impressive Apple wood bedroom set in the main bedroom of which the grain was handmade, also caught my attention. An old vineyard can also be seen in the yard. In one of the outbuildings is a beautiful transport model set made from wood to scale. I did not observe that this museum is wheelchair friendly, so please consult with the staff. There are 🚻 on the premises and parking near by as well as at least 4 other museums in the area to visit.

The accommodations, including family cottages and a guest house, are all of top quality and very neat and clean. Visitors can expect to encounter a variety of different animals while on drives or 4x4 trails, with friendly and helpful staff readily available to assist them.
What a fantastic park!
Great wildlife, knowledgeable rangers and lovely facilities.
Spend a few days camping or at the chalets and enjoy yourself driving the various routes. If you have a 4x4 and are feeling adventurous, you can tackle some of their tougher routes.
Plenty to see and do!

This is one of my all-time favorite parks. The different landscapes and scenic views are beautiful. The accommodation is top notch with enough room for a family of 5. There is a restaurant that serves delicious food like stews, burgers, and seafood options. The view from the restaurant is gorgeous, and you can see wildlife grazing while you enjoy your meal. The staff is friendly, and the curio shop stocks various items made of leather as well. The pool is such a nice addition and is handy on summer days. One of the picnic areas has a pool as well. A definite must see!

Accommodation is excellent. Very comfortable. Fire place that shares the living and sleeping space with an air con for hot days. Oversize bathroom and large sleeping room. Very nice view as per the picture provided. Not a very busy park and a mixture of biome that will excite anyone. The Ubejani route was a misty paradise early in the morning while the afternoon brought hot grasslands and grazing animals to life. Loads of small animals like bat eared fox, mongoose, spotted ganette, brown hyenas, secretary birds, carakal were all spotted during the day or on the night drive. It's also a very historic area for the boere war.
It has a beautiful well kept series of pools and camping sights that are very enjoyable. Again not very busy so you can relax. My partner and I fought over the placement in rankings of this one over the other parks we have visited and we conclude that this is a firm 2nd to Kruger.
Animals can be seen all over, many mongoose families are around. The usual suspects can be found at almost every turn. If you are an avid flora enthusiast then check the time of year you come because they boast a unique and massive conservancy of indigenous wild flowers and bulbs that are magnificent. Loved the stay.
Edit: after doing the Roouplaat/Kranskop loop we are in love.. Absolutely beautiful. Excellent facilities.

My favorite out of all the SANParks. At one point my family and I were going to the park up to 4 times a year. We've been probably about 25 times over the past 10 or so years. My family already has 2 more trips planned this year, one of which starts next weekend. After going so many times, we've seen just about everything the park has to offer, but still everytime we go, the park never disappoints

First off, I want to say that this park is fabulous. Loads of interesting animals to observe and experience in their natural habitats. The sheer majesty of land is the real star. Mountains and grasslands providing the perfevt backdrop for some spectacular wildlife. Self drive routes allow you the time and space to absorb all the wonders that the park offers. The guided drives in the expert hands of Richard, are an absolute must, his eyes are as keen as an eagles. His knowledge encyclopedic.
We stayed, with South African friends, in the family accomodation and to be honest some investment in the accomodation /public areas would take this park into five star category. It's all a bit tired and needs a bit of thought. The level of comfort would have been fine a few years ago but people expect more now, and they would be willing to pay more for that extra comfort.
The bottom line though is I would come back in a heartbeat.

The park has spectacular views and loads of wildlife. Its well worth visiting. I have to say they have the friendliest and helpful staff here. We visited Dec 2023, some of the roads need some attention so best to drive a car with some clearance. We were very dissapointed as the ablution block at the picknic site was blocked and under water. There is a restaurant and small shop at reception but I will recommend taking your own food and drinks, we ordered some food but it was very dissapointing.

Very nice place, we stayed in the one mountain cottage. Was told we need a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle with diff lock to get to the cottage but I got there quite easily with my front wheel drive mini van although it didn't scrap the ground in one or two places would definitely recommend a higher clearance car. Loads of wildlife so there always somthing to see

Very informative and Jandre the guide is very passionate on what he does with the animals. We learned a lot on our visit. Keep up the good work.
Addo Elephant National Park is the 3rd largest national park in the country, boasting a diverse range of wildlife including hundreds of elephants, as well as lions and black rhinos. Situated in a malaria-free area, the park offers numerous opportunities for game viewing and outdoor adventure. Visitors can stay in cabins and participate in self-guided or guided sunrise and sunset drives. The park also features an underground lookout where visitors may witness hyenas on a kill.
What a very beautiful experience! We saw good veriety of animals including the beautiful Elephants. The shop had a good veriety of whatever you may need. San parks are doing a Great fantastic job! Keep up the great work! Thanks you very much for a wonderful experience!!

Perfect to see lots of Elephants and Zebras very close. The paths are very good so you can self-drive also without a SUV. You should spend here at least 2-3 hours. But also a whole day is possible without getting bored. There is a nice restaurant for lunch at the entrance.

We stayed 5 nights in Addo Main Camp and thoroughly enjoyed watching the elephants interact with each other and also the human visitors. The elephants are very calm among humans - but at all like the Kruger National Park elephants. We saw jackal, meerkat, buffalo, kudu, warthogs, zebra, fish eagle, pale chanting goshawks, red hartebeest. We stayed in chalet number 20 which had beautiful unobstructed views of the landscape and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the elephants and zebra stroll past. We could hear the jackals and hyenas at night. We booked an early morning game drive as well as a night drive. Both are 2 hour game drives.
There is a Cattle Baron restaurant at Main Camp - we enjoyed the food.
Laundry facilities behind the reception area - but tokens from reception.
The downside was that load shedding was a problem as the chalets were not equipped with any decent battery lamps- so make sure to take your own lamps and head torches. . Sanparks chalets are not very well equipped for self catering. There is a microwave but hardly any microwavable cookware. Serving dishes are also non existent.
The units are serviced daily- they do wash the dishes and the braai facility gets cleaned everyday. Information about the Reserve was sorely lacking (ie, information about laundry ) .
Definitely worth a visit especially if you love elephants.

What a great surprise, clean, organised and super friendly, committed and dedicated staff. And the park itself is FULL of animals, we saw lots of elephants (one encounter was a touch too close), kudu, eland, buffalo, jackal, warthog, zebra, and a plethora of birdlife. The picnic (braai areas) are neat and well maintained. A great day out! All the photos are taken with the phone, so some are not as great as they could be...

One of the places you really must visit in South Africa. The third largest national park in the country.
Seeing the elephants is really something special. There are a lot of them in the park (700) and they move around in different places, so you can see them in different places and quite unexpectedly.
The park itself is really huge and only holds animals that are native to the area.
You drive your own car through the park, the roads are in fairly good condition even for small cars.

Living less than an hour away from this magnificent wild area is such a privilege. was have stayed over several times, but just going for a drive through the park is very worthwhile. Such a selection of wildlife, from tiny birds to the mighty elephants.

The cabin we stayed in was beautifully clean. The best in all the National Parks I have been too,and the shop was well stocked But reception needs to improve service as there were queues of people waiting to check in ( and one staff member was sitting looking at her cell phone)Also I phoned Addo 12 times ( using the website phone number) and the phone call was cut dead or not answered😡
Also, can one imagine , in a place where people go for peace and quiet there was a raucous event party one night with a loud band. Inexcusable in a game reserve

We only did the Addo coast trail from Cannon rocks to the start of the dune field. The trail is very easy to walk, and the places where stairs and logs have been placed to ease the route, they are starting to deteriorate. All in all remains a favorite, as you come back along the beach.

Do not hesitate to visit Addo. We have visited many times over the years and are never disappointed. If you have limited time hire a guide. They are affordable, personable, knowledgeable and will greatly improve your experience. In three hours on our last visit we saw 6 elephant groups up close, Buffalo, black jackal and others. Awesome.

Great sightings of spotted hyena and 3 lioness on kill. Park very green after good rains. Zebras, Hartebees, warthog in plenty supply and good selection of birds.

Beautiful game reserve. Check in and entry payment was quite quick. You are provided a map and there is also a sightings board. The entire park is well signed and it's very easy to navigate around. We saw elephants, jackals, Kudu, warthogs, and zebras. Because of the size of the park, we were able to navigate around very quickly and ended up not even needing to spend a full day here, although you definitely could. If you are close by, definitely come! Note that you do need your passport number for entry.

Large variety of wildlife, well kept camps and easy driving. The roads, both tar and dirt, are well maintained.
The main camp was a great stop for a cold beer and refreshments. The water hole below the main camp was full of wildlife and an experience.
A beautiful weekend and lots of great sightings.

Stayed at the cabin. Two self drives and sunrise and sunset guided drives. Sightings of Elephants were amazing. Highlight was visiting the underground lookout at 5.30 am and witnessing a hyena on a kill. Dream come true 👍

I wouldn't ever go back no animals food poisoning absolutely rubbish save yourself the trouble and give it a miss. As for the guides they didn't have a clue the excursions are over priced and was told in 40000 heaters they only have 3 lions you'll be extremely lucky to see anything other the the contents of your stomach (if you have eaten there) would also stay away from the bare foot elephant lodge unless you enjoyed the tiger King Tracy exotic would be happy to mess up your holiday

Lion, Elephant, and Zebra paradise. We saw dozens of elephants and a male lion chilling a few feet from the road. The elephants were curious and crossed feet from the vehicle. The mongoose was cute, perched on its rear legs.
Facilities are good. Bathroom in the middle of the park and at the entrances. The restaurant @ the main lodge serves a good veggie omelette.
Please turn off your motor when you stop to see the animals!

On my third visit to South Africa, my boyfriend and I decided to explore Addo, a place known for its diverse wildlife. Having previously encountered a variety of animals, the one species that had eluded us were elephants. So, while we were staying in Jeffrey’s Bay, we made it a point to visit on 12 August 2023.
Upon arriving at the entrance, we paid 468 rand for both of us and were handed a map to navigate through the expansive area. The drive itself was an adventure, lasting about three hours. We took our time, capturing photos and videos, and making occasional stops to admire the animals. It's quite a sight to see them casually strolling along the road, necessitating intermittent pauses. There was even a friendly competition between my boyfriend and me to see who could spot the most creatures!
One important tip for visitors is to ensure you have your driver’s license handy, as it's required at the entrance. The security measures are stringent, but they're in place to protect both visitors and the wildlife.
During our drive, we were treated to sightings of warthogs, elegant zebras, and the majestic elephants, some of which were incredibly large. My boyfriend was particularly awed by one especially grand elephant; he mentioned it was the largest he'd ever seen.
It’s important to note that throughout the drive, you're strictly prohibited from leaving your vehicle. This rule is in place to maintain a safe and respectful environment for both visitors and the animals.
After the exhilarating drive, we headed to the on-site restaurant and explored a charming small museum. It was a perfect way to wrap up our unforgettable Addo experience.
Side note: If it's summer, it gets very hot so it's so nice to have a bucket with some cook drinks during the drive. You'll thank me for this.

We did our first visit to Addo Jul 2023, long overdue. The Park did not disappoint, the landscape varies from area to area. Around each corner giving a little of its beauty. We stayed at main camp in the Forrest Cabins. Comfortable and had all we needed. They(staff at reception) warned us about possible water problems, but we did not experience any problems. Camp has a generator, so load-shedding not a problem. The shop and restaurant were great. Some of the gravel roads had just been graded, others gave a nice African massage. Very green. Main camp having some construction but did not bother us, its part of the ongoing improving of facilities. From one of the eastern areas of the park you can see the Indian Ocean. The signpost in the park are great, numbered so you can see where you are on the park map. Will be back
Willem H — Google review
We are currently in Addo. Wonderful. Main camp superb. The gravel roads need a lot of attention. Serious potholes. But much less hectic than Etosha.
Gerard Norris — Google review
We recently spent two nights in a Safari Tent at the park.
The park itself is fantastic, but there are areas that require attention. Due to recent rains and reduced maintenance, the non-tarred roads have deteriorated and need improvement for a smoother experience for vehicles not designed for off-road conditions. This aspect was better managed in the past.
The facilities at the main camp are adequate but could benefit from upgrades, especially considering the current rates. The bed in our tent was exceptionally comfortable and clean. However, the rest of the tent showed signs of mildew, and the furniture lacked functionality and creative design. The refrigerator, although loud, functioned well, and the air conditioning unit seemed fine (though we didn't need to use it). The views from the tent were spectacular.
Overall, there's a concerning sense that insufficient investment is being made in the facilities, upkeep, and maintenance. Attention to detail seems lacking, as evidenced by unattended issues like burnt-out light bulbs, broken locks on some toilet doors, and a section of the fence in the hide area becoming hazardously inclined.
The absence of proactive local operations management is noticeable, despite the presence of sufficient staff. This situation appears to reinforce the perception of inadequate reinvestment in the park's overall upkeep and guest experience.
Michael Appelt — Google review
The park is worth a visit. Good for a one day visit. No more. My reference is the Kruger National Park which is on a totally different level.

🐘 In a nutshell: come here for elephants (loads), zebras, pumbas, birds and other small animals. Don't come if you insist on seeing all the big 5. Lions are out rarely. It's called Elephant National Park after all ...
Then you will be extremely fulfilled and leave as a happy animal lover.
Some useful information:
1) you may come in with your own car (4x4 preferred but not entirely necessary), but likely you will see far less animals.
2) we arrived with our amazing driver and guide Saul - and he made this day special pointing out so many animals we would have never seen and could provide so much background information. Really recommended!
3) It's card only (no cash) in the park and by the gates.
4) there is a gift shop inside, so you don't have to bring your own food if you don't want to. There are a few picnic spots that are also gated off.
5) plan to be here for at least half a day (4 hours +)
6) wear sunscreen. It's a no brainer, but still worth mentioning.
7) by all means - never leave the car (except in the gated secure areas. There are wild animals after all and elephants - while they seem calm and peaceful - they weigh more and run much faster than you can ever dream of.
Other than that - ENJOY the 🐘🐘

So I would probably give this a 4.5 stars. The park is extremely large with lots of elephants by the water holes and sometimes coming right up to your car. Also a lot of zebras and some warthogs. Unfortunately I also spent a ton of time driving around and seeing nothing. Animals were concentrated and either there are a lot in one area or you’re driving around for an hour looking at nothing.

What a fantastic experience. We did it as a family of 4. 2 adults, 13yo & 9yo. The kids absolutely loved it. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable & very safety conscious. The hike to the launch platform was a little tough for us, who are not very fit but was a breeze for the kids with awesome views of the orchards surrounding Addo. Also got a glimpse of the final resting place of Sir Percy Fitzpatrick! Zipline itself was all adrenaline. What a rush!

Chris took us out for the Sundowners cruise. It was such a pleasure from the booking experience to the sunset view. We went out on a bad weather day but Chris found places that were sheltered so we could take in the views. We even got to climb the sand dunes which was a bonus I was not expecting. There's no bathroom on the boat but there are facilities at the start point in Colchester. I will try the sandboarding next time I'm in town.

We had a wonderful 4hr afternoon safari with our knowledgeable and courteous guide, Steven at Addo Elephant Park. You can self drive around the park but you in no way appreciate all this area has to offer and see far fewer animals. In my opinion our experience was enhanced by Steven's expert eyes. Refreshments are provided and Steven made sure we saw lots of elephants, zebra, ostriches, leopard tortoise, birds, warthogs and mongoose. Never felt rushed and felt the trip was well organised and safe. Thoroughly recommend.

We booked the all-day Addo Elephant Park Tour, and so glad we did! Our guide Gibson was a font of information, and proved to be an excellent host for the day. He kindly and patiently answered all our questions, never made us feel stupid, yet was comfortable in correcting our occasional mistake, like a true teacher. The braai lunch was delicious, and we greatly appreciated the interesting vegetarian option that we had requested. While we might well have seen some of the animals if we had done a self-drive, we wouldn't have had a clue about what was going on. Big thanks to Gibson and Crisscross for making this day an absolute highlight of our vacation in South Africa.

Crisscross is simply great! We had a wonderful 1.5 days with our guide Donald. He was fantastic. We learnt a lot about all the animals and also about life in South Africa. We are over the moon because we saw elephants, white and black rhinos, a hippo, two lionesses and a lion, a crocodile, warthogs, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, a tortoise and many kudus, antelopes etc. On the half-day canoe tour we also saw lots of birds. We can recommend Crisscross 100 per cent and send a big thank you to Donald.

I recommend avoiding this establishment as necessary safety checks were not done on their equipment, which is very risky. We did the quad biking experience which takes you on a pretty slow ride through the lemon orchards. Top speed 30kmph, through the orchards. It's not exactly an adventure, and would be great for kids if you're not too concerned about the safety of the bikes. While riding their quad bike, the wheels buckled landing me in a tree. The bike was faulty to begin with as the wheel alignment was out. Later, after going over a bumpy part of the road, a nut fell out and the wheels collapsed inwards. The guide made a temporary fix on the bike so that we could take it back to the main area, but we had to cut down the ride time and drive really slowly to avoid further damage. It's certainly not an adventure and it's definitely unsafe.
UPDATE: Well the owners admission and the photos speak for themselves. It's not about when the bolt came out (95% though the trip or not). It's about the fact that the bolt came out, and clearly the bike was not safe.

Jenny, Peter and the team make sure that you will have the most wonderful safari experience in South Africa.
From the reservation, organizing, information received until the good bye wave all is taken care of hands on and family run by a dedicated team.
I travelled alone and my choice was the two nights combined Schotia Tooth & Claw Safari with a tour in Addo and the sea cruise. After I arrived at Schotia Headquarters, checked in my overnight luggage tea/coffee/ juice/water and cookies were served. I shared my safari vehicle with three visitors from overseas and our guide was Charl. He lives at Schotia and he has a vast knowledge of the area, the animals, the plants and vegetation, the people and the environment. It was a privilege for me to listen to his stories and ask him numerous questions. He made the game drives informative and fun.
We left in an open safari vehicle and drove leisurely before stopping for a tea break at the lapa. We continued and were very fortunate to spot all the animals during those two drives.
Back to the thatched roof lapa for a refreshing beverage while we connected with the other guests, team members and guides sitting around an open fire. Not long after we were called to pick up dinner plates and were served our food. Choices included lamb, chicken,
potatoes, pumpkin, mixed vegetable, rice. The vegetarians and vegans were catered for as well. Last but definitely not least, the most iconic South African dessert, malva pudding is served with custard and you should not miss it.
Afterwards it’s off to a night drive through the game reserve which ended with arriving at my lovely and cosy bush cottage. The lions were roaring during the night and it is very special to experience this live. I slept like a baby, images of elephants, hippo and giraffes dotting my dreams
After an early morning tea at the patio watching the Moon with Venus and Pluto aligned in the sky followed by a stunning sunrise and listening to the different sounds of birds, I was picked up and after a short safari drive was driven to my car at Headquarters. From here I went to the harbour in Port Elizabeth for an Ocean Safari in Algoa Bay. Jenny organized for me to go with Raggy Charters, a marine eco tour company.
Afterwards I headed back and stopped for lunch at Nanaga farmstall as recommended by Jenny.
And just like that it was time for another game drive with Charl. After our coffee break he did show me an invader that only infects prickly pear
cacti and ants that live inside the thorns of one of the acacia bushes and how they hollow it out. We saw a female lion on a hunt which went unsuccessful for her. The lucky warthog.
The night drive after our delicious dinner was equally spectacular and it ended in front of my cottage.
A short morning drive and I had to say goodbye to Charl. He drove me to headquarters where Justin was waiting for me for a safari in Addo Elephant park, also organized by Jenny.
One can self-drive through Addo but I wanted a guided tour to give me the opportunity to take photographs of the animals.
He drove me back to my car and I had to say goodbye to Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve and the people.
It is an enormous private reserve and the Bean Family and the staff members are in preserving and educating valuable wild life in South Africa in harmony with the neighbouring park, farms and settlements.
Charl and the others are brilliant guides and I am convinced that everyone visiting Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve will have the same experience. Thank you Schotia for an unforgettable experience.

Absolutely recommended. The place is prepared for tourists, the guides are knowledgeable, safe and passionate about their work. The vehicles are in very good condition. The property consists of several hectares with subdivisions, the landscape is fabulous. Various types of serfs and antelopes, elephants, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, lions, crocodiles, and more are seen. Plus, dinner is a beautiful time and a nice place in the middle of the countryside. The visit without camping is from 3 to 9 p.m. with dinner included and costs USD$135. It is highly recommended.

you are able to see, and so close! Zane our Ranger took us along three game drives and shared his deep knowledge about ALL animals we saw, he also has a great sense of humor which made the safari even more entertaining. He also shared some more background on the country itself which was very interesting to hear as well.
Make sure to book an overnight stay, the tented camps are a blast, a night we won’t forget anytime soon.
If you are in the Addo area, make sure to visit Schotia!!
Pro Tip: Make sure to visit Addo National Park first, do some self driving which is also amazing! Then add a day at Schotia to be even more impressed :)

If you are just doing Tooth&Claw safari tour with them, you will need to check in at 2.30pm. Guided drive will commence from 3pm to 5pm. There will be pit stop for refreshment and toilet stop. Then the tour continues to 7pm. After which, you will be brought to a hut within the huge safari where you will be warmed up round the fires with limited free drinks and a lovely home cooked dinner served with dessert before heading back to their
office at 8.45pm
If you are staying over with them at their beautifully decorated huts, the sleep over package will include activities as mentioned above AND a night drive to your accommodation. There will be another round of 1.5 hour guided tour around the safari the next morning before heading out to a nearby restaurant for breakfast.
We were privileged to have Edward as our guide. He managed to bring us up close and personal to many animals and the most important one of all - Lions! 🦁

A huge Thank You - Scotia and Roger you all rock! A game lodge to be experienced. Lots of added surprises included as part of this experience. Loved it very much!

Absolutely stunning and worthwhile. We had Scott as a very experienced and entertaining guide, can highly recommend this safari as you get to see everything that you desire to see as a tourist. Would even do it again, thank you!
Adrian Willruth — Google review
Thanks to the tip from Wayne of the Addo Riverside Villa, we chose the safari in the evening and night back to the base included with a delicious dinner.
We had Fontaine as ranger/leader and we loved his dedication for the animals and nature. We felt very comfortable and safe and learned a lot about flora and fauna.
We definetely come back and totally recommend the tour because chances are higher to see the animals.
We preferred the Schotia Safari to the Addo but thats personal choice for sure
Of course the other rangers were great as well.
See ya!
Greetings,
Sharina and Lars❤️

We can definitely recommend this place.
We had a very nice time in Schotia! It is a paradise for photographers and you will see a lot of wild animals. All the staff and guides were so friendly and welcoming. Our guide Charl was so nice and full of knowledge! You will experience a lot and get know about wildlife.
There is a dinner included in tour and it is served in a really lovely communal area.
Thank you so much!

It was a breathtaking experience. We had a very nice, funny and incredibly dedicated local guide called Charl who showed us lions, zebras, antelopes, rhinos, hippos, giraffes and many other animals. He also gave us very interesting informations and was able to answer all our questions about the landscape and the animals in detail. The highlight for us was being able to see a lion family with their 1-month-old baby.
The Schotia-Team respectfully kept distance from the animals and asked us to be quiet as soon as we get near them.
We can highly recommend the tour and would book it again every time.

We had the most wonderful stay at Schotia!
All of the staff and guides were so friendly and welcoming. Our guide Roger was so knowledgable! He answered all of our questions and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time and saw lots of wildlife.
We stayed in tented accommodation, which was incredible. The tents and bathroom were clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. It was so nice to spend the evening in the wilderness with no electricity watching the stars and listening to the peaceful sounds of nature.
The food was so delicious and served in a really lovely communal area.
We cannot recommend this place enough!! We hope to visit again soon 😊

Amazing safari experience. We were lucky enough to see elphants and lions up close multiple times, and even witnessed a lioness hunt and catch a warthog. We saw every animal we expected to see and many more! It was incredible to see them in the wild. We also stayed in the tented accommodation where we heard buffalo and zebra through the night. Our guide Fontaine was amazing, so knowledgeable and dedicated! Highly recommend Schotia for a safari experience.

Great experience through a really well run, passionate and educated team. Our guide Charl was so informed about all the animals and his insights made the tour. The food is great, the people are lovely, would highly recommend for a private game reserve experience.

Beautiful cruise, stunning scenery, and the most fun sandsledding. Les was very friendly and welcoming. The dunes are breathtaking. You have to be a little fit to walk up the dunes... definitely a recommended experience, the water was a bit cold to go into but will definitely be back to try the slide down to the water.

First time and this was an awesome experience. Beautiful dunes and the owner Les is very accommodating and we also enjoyed the ferry ride to the dunes. Total duration with cruise and dunes was approx two hours. Will certainly do this sledding activity again.
Thanks Les, really enjoyed the experience.

A friend and I went on a boat cruise and sand sledding experience with Addo Cruises and Sand Sledding in December 2018. It was incredible! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and pointed out various bird species along the river whilst giving us interesting facts about the fauna and flora of the area. The sand sledding was an adrenaline rush like no other and, after the nervousness faded away on the first slide down a sand dune, I couldn't get enough of it! I can highly recommend this to everyone - young and old! It's a must!

I had a couple of serene walks through the wonderful and peaceful garden here which requests a very small donation for upkeep. The energy from the rock shrine within the garden is quite strong and great for meditation. I managed to aquire a little gemstone Buddha from the shop to travel in the car with us. The service from the young lady in the shop was excellent. Definably worth a visit if you are in Hogsback.

Crystal corner is absolutely magical. The atmosphere is light and one can't distract one's self from all the beautiful shiny precious stones and gifts they offer. There is an entire gallery and a stunning wishing tree on the property.
They have more options than one can note here. An absolute MUST visit on your trip to Magical Hogsback. I highly recommend a visit to Crystal Corner 🔮

A definite must when visiting Hogsback. This quaint little crystal shop has a wide variety of the most beautiful crystals and stones on display and for sale. We could spend hours browsing through all the different kinds! We were assisted by two lovely ladies who really took such great care of us, taking the time to answer all our questions.
The owner warmly welcomed and greeted us as if we were long time friends. Definitely a highly recommend spot for the whole family to visit when in Hogsback.

The owners greeted us at the gate and invited us in, explaining all that are available on the premises. The crystal shop is very well stocked and you must allow yourself enough time to browse around. Love the gardens and the newly added kitchen. Very peaceful place and we felt very relaxed and calm after our visit. Definitely a Hogsback gem and bucket list.

Nanaga Farmstall is a popular stop for travelers heading to Port Alfred or East London. It's conveniently located next to a petrol station, making it easy to grab some roosterkoek and other homemade treats. The farm stall is known for its delicious pies, particularly the chicken pie filled with actual chicken fillet. In addition to food items, visitors can also find biltong, antique items, coffee, ice cream, and more.
What a lovely place! My favourite meal. Roosterkoek and Pineapple juice 🙌 There is so many things you can buy from biltong to antique items. You cannot pass by you have to pop in. Coffee, ice-cream you name it. Friendly staff. Excellent service!

One of my favourite Farm stalls. Love this place :). I was traveling to Grahamstown today and wanted some goodies for my family. I love the convenient shop next to the petrol station, so one does not rely on the "main" shop to get rooster brood. I normally take random drives on a Saturday morning to have breakfast just before the crowds come in. It is a very nice spot, which I love :) ohhh they have KFC as well :)

Most people that are on route to Port Alfred/East London or live close by, stop at Nanaga. This place/shop is well known for their pies, roosterkoek and some other homemade goodies. The chicken pies were my favorite as they were filled with chicken fillet and not only gravy (R30). Great place to stop and have breakfast. There is a garage to fill up and a Kentucky if you prefer the usual takeaway. Lots of parking spaces and grassed areas if you just want to grab a quick bite and stroll outside with your doggy.

Beautiful trees in peaceful surroundings. Needs some maintenance, but it is still great. The Californian redwoods stand out as a must visit, very impressive .
Nick Dempers — Google review
Hogsback's Arboretum is an absolute gem nestled in nature's embrace! My recent visit left me utterly enchanted. The sight of five majestic Californian Redwoods stood tall and proud, adding a touch of grandeur to the already breathtaking landscape. The multiple streams gurgling through the park created a soothing soundtrack, and discovering not one, but two waterfalls was a delightful surprise.
And if you're an early riser, consider visiting right before sunrise as during this time there is the chance to witness what remains of the small wild Cape Parrot population. It's a rare and precious encounter with nature that makes the early morning visit well worth it.
The variety of tree life in the arboretum is truly remarkable. From indigenous wonders to exotic marvels, each tree tells a story of its own. Walking through this park feels like stepping into a fairy tale—serene, magical, and utterly beautiful. The attention to maintaining the natural harmony is evident, making it a haven for nature lovers.
The overall ambiance is simply stunning. The play of sunlight through the leaves, the vibrant hues of green, and the sense of tranquility make Hogsback's Arboretum a perfect escape. Whether you're a passionate nature enthusiast or someone seeking a serene retreat, this place is a must-visit. The Arboretum is truly a haven where nature reveals its beauty in the most delightful ways.

Good relatively well maintained arboretum. Also gives access to the 39 steps waterfall, which can not be seen from the official viewpoint marked on Google due to overgrown alien vegitation on the forestry land!

Absolutely beautiful! Lots of easy walking paths to enjoy a comfortable stroll at any time of the day. Plenty of benches to sit on or you could bring a picnic and find a shaded spot on the grass. Well worth a visit in the Spring time when the flowers are blooming. Don't forget to walk to the waterfall and the Redwoods. When visiting also remember to leave no trace and if you find any litter along the way please collect it and put it in one of the available bins 🌻

Beautiful old cathedral in the centre of Grahamstown. Highly recommend visiting. It is well maintained and fantastic on the inside and outside.

Beautiful architecture, some parts almost a century old... the still functioning organ was brought out of England in the early 1900's...many of the features in the church are ornate & handcrafted ...and we were privileged with the most humble of guides who has such a passion for the church, and for serving others.

This is one of the most beautiful ancient buildings in Grahamstown with almost 200 years old. It stands majestically at High street, a main street in Grahamstown, now called Makhanda. It is well maintained and hold regular church services by Anglican missionaries and congregation. The St George Cathedral competes well with a church at Graaff Reinet and Alexandria in the Karoo. They are architecturally inclined and aesthetically pleasing to the 👁eye

Fantastic large scale public exhibition and meeting facility with a picturesque view over the town. One of the best and most humbling things to do when visiting a new place is being able to view that place from a higher vantage point and enjoy the full sprawl of a city or town. The Settlers Monument is the best place to do that in Grahamstown. I travelled to Grahamstown for the 2015 National Arts Festival, and despite all the exciting events happening throughout the town, the Settlers Monument and the view from the hill was still my favourite thing about the trip.

Had the most magical and wonderful time. Luke and Jo the rangers were knowledgeable, kind and great fun. We did two safaris whilst travelling South Africa and nothing compares to the vibe and experience at Sibuya. It’s a really special experience made so much more special by the incredible staff and safari guides.

This was an incredible day trip experience. From reception in Kenton, boat trip up the kariega, game drive, full lunch, to the boat trip back - so much value for a day excursion! The guides were laid back and friendly and made so much effort to accommodate specific needs from dietary restrictions to watching out for specific animals a patron was interested in viewing. We saw plenty of wildlife - from rhino, to lion, to wildebeast, to giraffe which made the game drive lively. I highly recommend the day trip experience for those that want a taste of the experience for a day.

I did not think that the river cruise and lunch was good value for money.
It was wonderful to be out in nature and on the water. The ranger was informative. We saw plenty of bird life, no game.

What a lovely stunning fantastic place!
Make sure you stay minimum 3 nights to not rush on your game drives and enjoy nature and simply exploring the surrounding.
Our ranger PJ was such a great and knowledgeable person, he knew everything about the reserve, animals, birds and plants. He cared a lot about us and took us on game drives up to three times a day! We couldn't have wished for anyone better than him. All people involved with Sibuya were fantastic, caring and just loved this place which was amazing to experience.
We had super diverse drives along different parts of the reserve, managed to see all kinds of antilope, zebras, giraffes, elephants, lion, rhinos, pumbas... The camp scenery itself is just insane! We stayed at the forest camp but in fact you cannot pick a wrong one! The rooms were stunning, super quiet with an intense atmosphere, sitting outside Impalas would simply cross. Food and drinks were amazing, im vegetarian so they did an extra station three times a day - other people had allergies and they handled this perfectly as well.

Super 4 days at Sibuya - arrival by boat and then on the drive over to the lodge seeing elephants and giraffes within the first half hour. The guides are super - particularly Mashudu - we also saw lions, rhinos, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest and lots more. Had the lodge to ourselves so felt like our own private reserve and game drive!

We had a perfect day with Mike! He was an amazing guide and we really enjoyed the time with him. In the beginning he made sure to ask what animals we are interested in and over the whole day he tried to show us as many as possible. He knows so much about the wildlife and explained everything patiently.
We definitely recommend the full day trip and you can be lucky if you get Mike as a guide! Thanks from the Germans, hope to see you again!

What a wonderful experience! From our arrival to the very last minute, the team at Sibuya Game Reserve looked after our every need and treated us like royalty.
The boat ride was incredible!! Our guide for the day, Michael is well educated in everything regarding the safari experience. He is fun and informative and we'd recommend him anytime! We felt safe all the time and he made an effort to try and spot some elephants and lions. Although luck wasn't on our side we did see other animals such as giraffes, zebras, impalas and rhino's! We even saw a fish eagle! Michael knows a lot of bird species and could copy many of the sounds they make! Very entertaining!
To top it off we were treated to a spread of yummy foods and drinks. They made special arrangements for our dietary preferences! This trip is both thrilling and relaxing and is definitely something you should do at the very beginning of your trip! Trust me! It will be the thing you talk about the most on your holiday!
Thank you Sibuya - we'll be back!

Our stay at Sibuya Game Reserve was such a memorable experience and we think back to it a lot. It was definitely the highlight of our South Africa trip. We stayed at River Camp in luxurious and spacious tents, the meals were delicious and even vegan food was specially prepared at our request. The staff members were very friendly and attentive and realized every wish for us. The special highlight were the game drives! Our ranger Ryan was an extremely competent guide and perfect host. You could easily see that he loves the animals and the possibility to contribute to the understanding of the importance of environmental conservation. He was very considerate, always noticed when we intended to take a photo and steered the offroad vehicle to give us the best view. He adjusted the game drives to our wishes, i.e. no problem if we wanted to stay longer in one place. He knows a lot about the history of Sibuya, about the large and also the small and tiny animals and all the plants and their role in the ecological balance. So every day we learned a lot of interesting new facts in an entertaining way. Between the two daily game drives there is plenty to do like swimming in the river or kayaking. We had a great time and will definitely come back again. Thank you so much Ryan and the whole team at Sibuya!
