The estate is absolutely stunning, there is plenty of parking and the cellar door is part of a mansion that overlooks the hills, gardens and ponds below.
The restaurant here is no longer open which is a shame but the wine is still excellent. Tastings provide you with many options of reds and whites, and it’s free if you spend over a certain limit.
Once you’re done with tasting, it’s worth taking a walk in their gardens below, it is amazing and so serene.
Only note is that the tasting room gets very very busy, we only had one person serving more than 10 groups at one point, got a little out of hand where you just get poured your wine and they’re off helping the next customer. Gotta be patient!

Great experience. No restaurant menu but pick your choice of cheese, crackers, dip and snacks at bar and staff will pack everything in cute basket as picnic style. Which we love it!
Suzy A — Google review
Brilliant wine and gardens! Nothing better than selecting your own platter items from the deli and finding a spot in the sun to enjoy your goodies. The staff were very welcoming and kind. Will definitely return!

This is a good experience. Build your own picnic and a bottle of wine. Nice soft seats! On a hot day the 🏖️ was perfect. Afterwards enjoy a pleasant walk around the gardens and a small lake with eels.

We had a wonderful wine tasting experience ~ thanks Yanni for her professional and detailed explanation of the great wines in Pegasus bay and gave us good suggestion of food paring with their wine. I love the decoration and garden of this winery ~
Sandy Sou — Google review
The best wine tasting experience in NZ thus far! A vast range of interesting and special wine available, the staff are professional, knowledgeable and friendly. On top of everything, their garden is absolutely mind blowing, so sad the restaurant isn’t open that day, would love to be back for the food.
Carl K — Google review
Our absolute favourite winery during our NZ trip, for how beautiful it is. We also learnt a lot from the cellar tasting on how they upkeep this garden and the vineyards across the season. Insightful and relaxing time here. Very memorable picnic in their picturesque garden
Cherie Heng — Google review
Very pretty winery with gardens and a beautiful lake, there’re ducks, swans, fish and eels in it.
Love the way food is provided, you need to pick a cute wooden box to collect a variety of wine pairing snacks like prosciutto, cheese, olives, pickles, bread etc. The kitchen also provide several flavors of homemade meat pies, they taste super yum especially the pie crust, very nice bakery!
Pick any indoor or outdoor seats you wish, both are comfortable and relaxing.
Staff are friendly and caring.
The interior design has some wine bottle creations, and I love the wine related quote written on walls, give you lot of feeling and smiles.
Roxine CHIAO — Google review
Drove all the way down from Christchurch to visit Pegasus Bay for its Riesling wines and wasn't disappointed. They offer a tasting of several wines for about 10 NZD which could also be counted into the purchase of a bottle of wine.
I enjoyed the Riesling wines the most and the late-harvest ones have varying sweetness which makes excellent dessert wines. The Encore was pretty nice, it was richly sweet like honey and leaves a nice lingering sweet aroma, something that is bound to leave an impression. There is also a much lighter version: The Aria if the Encore is too rich.
There is also a garden to stroll around and a deli to chill and relax. The pies by Hope River is pretty delicious. I had the Lamb, Rosemary and Kumara which has nice tender, juicy chunks of lamb and delightful crust. The pricing is reasonable too.

Pegasus Bay Winery offers an exceptional experience with its exquisite Riesling wine, charming surroundings, and fantastic service. The blend of modern architecture and rustic charm, coupled with the beautiful garden, creates a truly enchanting atmosphere. The staff's knowledge and passion for wine enhance the tasting experience. I'm eager to return to this delightful winery.
The winery Waipara Hills is a stunning place to visit, with delicious food and award-winning wines. It's a great place to relax and unwind after exploring the city. The service is excellent, and free parking is available at the door.
Amazing presentation and delicious every bite of every meal. Absolutely loved the place! Highly recommend!
Olivka K — Google review
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Waipara Hills, a vineyard in Waipara, Canterbury, New Zealand, and I have to say, it was a stunningly beautiful experience. The wines are truly fantastic, with a wide range of varietals to choose from. The flavors were well-balanced, and the prices of bottles were more than reasonable. The real highlight of my visit was the restaurant, which exceeded all of my expectations. The food was absolutely delicious, with a menu that featured a variety of dishes that were expertly prepared. The restaurant truly felt like a 5-star establishment, with a focus on providing a unique experience to patrons. The staff were also top-notch, and they were incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and food. I would highly recommend Waipara Hills to anyone looking for a fantastic wine-tasting experience with delicious food. It's truly a hidden gem in Waipara, Canterbury.
Mike Gencic — Google review
Excellent restaurant in Waipara. Stunning building with great shady outside dining options. I really like the choice on the menu particularly how you can choose an entree or main size. Desserts were yummy. Excellent Waipara Hills wines by the glass. Excellent service. Free parking at the door.
The Snakebite — Google review
We stopped in on our way back to Christchurch and were lucky enough to get a table for 2. Bookings are recommended. The setting is lovely, the service is really good, absolutely lovely staff. The food is also really good. I had the falafel main, and my husband had the steak sandwich, both of which we enjoyed. The rating is because their wine is not vegan friendly, which is disappointing. They can provide a sparkling rose for vegans, but that's it.
Megan Andrews — Google review
Simply Fantastic !! The glorious setting and the great wine is kind of a given but the brilliant food and world class customer service was a real "surprise and delight " moment.
Right when you walk in you are greeted by a very special woman who knows all about great customer service and that service just continues with the Wait staff and Cashier.
The food is relatively simple but it is cooked and presented with a lot of pride and love.
Cant recommend this establishment highly enough, just remember to book as it is very popular. We will be back !!

Great wine tasting experience. Dennis has walked us through all the kinds of wine (red and white). He took us on an amazing wine journey. Thank you for the unforgettable experience. Superb customer service and amazing atmosphere. Highly recommended and a must try/stop when you happen to be at the Waipara area 👍😊
Aldrin A — Google review
An absolutely delightful experience! Recommend booking before coming as they get very busy and don’t always take walk ins. Paired the food very nicely with wine and everything came out promptly and tasted very fresh. The location is also stunning!
Tyleisha Lloyd-Smith — Google review
Great lunch with pretty good service. Enjoyed the share plates of the chicken bao and the pork sliders. Also a very good wine selection as well. Would be best in the summer I reckon to be able to sit outside.

Food was was amazing, really the wine as well. Really great service too. Came in on the weekend without a booking (just driving by) and they were able to accommodate us. 5 it of 5 for everything!!!

Great place to spend Sunday afternoon , sit in the sun eat great meals and drink fine wines.
Meals are quite large and easily shared, the wine matching is helpful.
I had the mussels and chorizo, great. As was the beef ragout
Friendly staff and no smoking, that I noticed, nearby

A great venue for all sorts of functions. Great atmosphere and superb wines. Enjoy the venue either as a private function or dining out with friends. I am writing this as I am at the venue while listening to good background music and a nice warm comfortable temperature. If you want something uniquely different then give this place a go.

It was a great choice to stop here for lunch. Food was delicious. Service was outstanding. Will be back for sure.
Marin Ianev — Google review
Customer service, not the best on the day. Felt embarrassed and belittled, with my friend wanting to leave immediately. We cycled along the trail. As we walked in, walking our bikes in along the edge of the grass to place against the wine barrels, we were yelled at from the reception area, to take the bikes off the grass and put them outside against the fence. It had been raining. No obvious bike racks. Everyone looking at us. Next faux pas, was not to have a reservation. I said we hadn't made a booking and could we be fitted in. No greeting no response other than to pick up menus and 'follow me, did mention the step down.
Great food menu. Food was first class. Presentation outstanding. Taste was incredible. Paired with the nominated wine. Both agreed the food was delicious but my friend not so keen on returning, due to arrival greeting.

well, what a wonderful place. The setting is beautiful. We sat outside in the garden area. The service was great, and the menu was varied. We ordered the Winery platter for 2 people. YUM. will look fwd. to going back soon to a repeat performance. Thank you for such a lovely Saturday lunch.
Shayne Harding — Google review
Made a last minute booking 2 days before for my mums 70th birthday and given that they had several large tables they were more than accommodating. The wind had picked up so even though I asked to sit outside we were seated inside as they didn’t want us to get hurt by flying umbrellas which worked well and suited us even better. Food was outstanding. We had my 5 year old son with us and the kids platter gave him a little bit of everything which he loved. We had the white wine platter between two and two small glasses of house sav and were not disappointed. Every visit here has been wonderful and the staff are so attentive and polite.
Louise Waghorn — Google review
Walked There from our motorhome just after 10am .The staff were fantastic . A family owned business , old school . Andrew was ever so obliging and helpful in coming forward with information about the history of the wine making. Andrew and his family and staff members Nicole, Alex and his father were all part of a well oiled machine. The dinning area was packed , with two Xmas lunches bkd . I try not to get people in the photo's for privacy reasons . There is a large area for parking and out to one side you can park up your motorhome for the night . Behind the top parking area is a wine trail to walk or bike and is very enjoyable .
Terry Klenner — Google review
Fabulous place to visit and dine. The food was amazing and the staff do a fabulous job of welcoming and catering for your needs. We went with a party of 30 people in classic cars and everyone loved the food, wine and atmosphere.
Dave Blyth — Google review
I recently organised a group lunch for our car club. As we were a large group we had to order from a set menu. My only frustration was that we all had to have the same option - so either all order entree/main or all order main/dessert. However, after speaking to the very helpful staff (particularly Tania), who was able to offer some other options, we selected the 3-course lunch menu and I am so pleased we did. The food was amazing - the platters were large and had a great variety of cheeses, meats and spreads (we struggled to finish them). The mains and desserts were also enjoyed by all. The communication from the winery prior to our booking was excellent. Thanks also to Leeann who was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
Fiona McLachlan — Google review
We always enjoy the warm, friendly welcome from the team. The food is always delicious and the wine (naturally) is wonderful. It's a really easy drive from Christchurch - we intent to work our way through the menu!
Rose Crossland — Google review
The meal for the four of us was excellent very tasty. The desserts were delicious, service was extremely good and of course the wine very drinkable. Waipara Springs winery never disappoints , well worth the drive.
Gayle — Google review
Very nice! We really enjoyed our afternoon tasting time despite bad weather, the place isn’t huge or fancy looking, but surely homey. Their wines taste real special, I especially like the Riesling. Also, very surprised to know about their Gin and Limoncello, both of which are exquisitely delicious. Cheese board are nice and generous in size, and the waxy honey is a great touch.
Carl K — Google review
We booked a table for Sunday lunch with the family for my mother-in-law’s birthday. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon so we sat outside with a view across the fields. Great food with a thoughtfully designed menu & wine selection. Catered for gluten free & options for kids. Lovely, friendly staff & relaxed atmosphere. Easy drive from Christchurch. We will be back again!

Service, foods, wines, atmosphere, everything was amazing.
All the source of foods were match perfectly with foods, especially loved how the seafood platter wasn't fishy at all and also the steak cooked very well with Medium Rare.
Definitely will visit again with my family.

A beautiful set up with wonderful staff! Extremely lovely range of wine that is super palatable! You can definitely tell there is a high regard for and a strong passion that goes into the wine making and into the hospitality! The food was divine! Well worth a visit! Lauren does an absolute cracker of a job with her wine tasting presentation!
Kasey-marie — Google review
Amazing! Some of the best customer service I’ve ever had in NZ! Food was lovely - seafood platter was good value and beautifully presented! Tried a couple of their gins and they were beautifully refreshing. Setting was stunning and they also had a live musician playing who was extremely talented.
Lucy — Google review
We made this stop on a wine tour and found this place to be exceptional. The team members are very friendly and helpful. The service was spectacular. The food was definitely the best we have had during our trip in NZ. The wine was delicious and, even though we cannot transport bottles easily in our luggage, we bought a bottle to enjoy later tonight. I am so glad this winery was on our tour. When they can export to the US, we will investigate having it shipped.
Linda S Wenger — Google review
Booked for my daughter's birthday. Absolutely loved our lunch in such a pretty setting. The wait staff (Louise) was very friendly and attentive and the chef was very accommodating regarding our vegan requests. Really enjoyed the wine and gin tasting and staff were very knowledgeable. Highly recommend this venue!
Tracy Walker — Google review
Had a lovely lunch at the Waipara Springs winery, one of the better winery meals I’ve had. Tried the salmon and the roast belly dishes both of which I would thoroughly recommend. Great and quick service from the service team too

Amazing experience!!!
We went on a tour to a winery, met owners, had nice tour with explanations and wine tasting.
Having a great view with a glass of perfect young vine. What can be better than!!!
Even saw caws nearby.

Lovely site for our wedding anniversary (19). was just the two of us with an outside table for lunch, on a beautiful autumn day. Taken to a choice of tables inside or out and order was taken after a suitable period. Wine suggestion was perfect for our choice of lunch starter and main. Both were cooked correctly for us and enjoyed more wine. Moved to a sunnier table later in the day as the sun moved and the wine continued. Perfect spot for a couple or especially group events. A polite and efficient service so thank you. We will be back with friends.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Waipara Springs Winery and Restaurant, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. The premises are simply wonderful, with a charming ambiance that perfectly complements the surrounding vineyards. The food surpassed my expectations with its delicious flavors and impeccable presentation. Each dish was expertly crafted using fresh, local ingredients, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs. And let's talk about the wine – particularly their Sauvignon Blanc. It was absolutely superb, with its crisp, refreshing taste and delightful aroma. Paired perfectly with the meal, it elevated the dining experience to new heights.Overall, I highly recommend Waipara Springs Winery and Restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. From the picturesque setting to the delectable food and outstanding wine selection, it truly exceeded all my expectations.
Our favourite winery in Waipara. The staff are always friendly and offer great value wine.
We love being able to freedom camp here also ☺️

We had a group tour for a wine tasting. Lady who was giving us unforgettable experience was very friendly and knew. She was talking about every wine was so passionate, that we felt every wine not only tasting it but like we grow it ourselves.
All wines that we tried were excellent, I even tried white port for a first time in my life and like it a lot!
Highly recommend for wine lovers!

My second time at Torlesse and as it was before, the customer service is awesome, the platters are great. We enjoyed our wine tasting and walking around the vineyard. 100% recommended
Carolina Russi — Google review
We really enjoyed our wine tasting at Torlesse Wines! It is a relatively small winery but with a great variety of wines. We tasted 13 types of wines (we were on a bike and close the our campsite) in combination with a great platter. If you are looking for a place to have lunch (and you don’t have other plans for the afternoon 😉), then this is the place to go.
Peter Kok — Google review
Great tasting experience and great wines! For only 12 dollars, you can taste the full menu. Wines were all high quality and there is a diversity of styles, including varietals that I have not seen elsewhere like Verdelho and Albarino. I especially recommend the Albarino! I like that a white port and a tawny port are available in the tasting too. Thanks for the great experience!
David Mayers — Google review
My daughter took me to Torlesse winery for Mother's Day. We shared a platter and did a wine tasting. Couldn't fault the place. It is in a lovely setting, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The platter was very generous and we both really enjoyed it. I'm not much of a wine drinker generally but I Really loved their wines, not all of them, but most of the ones I tried were absolutely delicious. Thanks to the staff, who looked after us so well. We'll be back!
Michele McCormack — Google review
Great site, tasty wines. Totally received for visiting.
EVGENY TSARKOV — Google review
We did some research to which winery we should go to taste a glass of wine. We decided to stop at Torlesse as we like small businesses and the personal contact with the owners. We had a great experience sitting in the garden drinking a good glass of wine and looking at the vineyard. We also ordered a small plate of cheese and got the best cheese we ate in 6 weeks traveling through NZ and that is coming from an italian cheese lover. We highly recommend this place.

Just had a family lunch today, just lovely! The service was so calm and friendly - the platter for 2 was amazing. My brother is vegan and they even had some really nice vegan food available. Highly recommended!
Fleur Bosch — Google review
Awesome experience all around. Great, homely atmosphere, really tasty wine, and a tasting menu (for just 12 NZD!) that lets you journey through a lot of different options. And a blackcurrant wine to die for!
Rałał Jakiśtam — Google review
Went in for a wine tasting and had an amazing experience! Jule took us through their incredible list of delicious wines and was super informative and friendly. The Gewurztraminer and the Port were especially amazing, we'll definitely be ordering our wines from here.
Trent Robinson — Google review
Lovely ladies running the place, very reasonably priced wine tasting. Wines were okay, we most liked the ports, others were quite bitter for the most part but this might’ve been because our wine glasses weren’t changed in between the different tastings, including between whites, rosés and reds, which we were surprised by. However, for $15 we weren’t disappointed and walked away with a nice bottle of port.
Georgina Bennett — Google review
I love Susan she was great! Wine was great! Great hospitality! FRIENDLY! and absolute BLAST. 100% Would recommend.
Kate Grocott — Google review
The best wine tasting experience I have ever had. Anywhere. Owners are knowledgeable and friendly, with a wide range of wines. And the wines were delicious! They also serve hot food if you need to feed your small humans and there's room for them to run around too.
(If you are struggling to get to the cellar door, you can buy some of the wines from wine collective direct, but the range will be much more limited.)
Freckle Milo — Google review
Visited on a wine tour and though it was the last winery it was the best. French lady giving information on the wines was very informative and the Irish lady was great sharing an additional couple drinks including white and red port as well as a gorgeous chassis liqueur. Definitely recommend the white port though it was very sweet. Thanks you Torlesse wines.
James Jennings — Google review
We had the most amazing tasting experience with Susan. She is kind, knowledgeable and fun! We’ve enjoyed every vineyard/cellar door that we’ve visited but Torlesse was personal and the kind staff make you feel right at home! (They asked to see photos of our recent wedding) The wine was fantastic and we will certainly be back.
Still family owned local winery. When we went for the tasting($8 for 8 superb wines) Jill who is a owner looked after us with Kiwi friendly hospitality. All their wines taste fantastic! I’ll definitely come back. They grow their own olives and make olive oil which tasted excellent, too.
E K — Google review
Visited on a Sunday during Delta Level 2. Excellent wines - definitely ranking the best in Waipara. Innovative wines with some cool varieties. Olive Oil also. Organic status. Brilliant wine tasting service by the owner.

Not that Terrace Edge Wines needs this review, as the quality speaks for itself. But just in case, not only well known for its wine, but also for exceptionally fine olive oil. Astringent, buttery, green flavor...you can even smell the fresh olive..it's just perfect!
Indah Alam — Google review
Excellent tasting and friendly owners. First time I’ve tried a Syrah and it was fantastic. Appreciated the olive tasting as a bonus. Free tasting when you purchase a bottle. Highly recommend a visit and nice to see a vineyard that’s not overly commercialized.
Owen Anderson — Google review
Great place for a tasting and a couple of varieties that I have not had anywhere else. An absolute bonus to stump my wine-knowledgeable friends
Thom Botterill — Google review
Amazing wine and olive oil.
Absolutely fantastic experience to do the wine tasting in this elegant place..
Lingchun Liu — Google review
Wow! We chose to visit this winery on the strength of their 5 star rating. We were not disappointed. The 6 wines we tasted were all delicious (but we limited ourselves to buying 3 bottles) as was the olive oil (bought 1 bottle) and the Kalamata olives (yep, bought a jar of those, too!) And the gourmet toasties were the perfect accompaniment. We signed up to their wine club on the spot and can't recommend this place highly enough.
Jilliene Beale — Google review
Wonderful winery! We had the toasties with our tasting and they were delicious. All of the wines we tried were great, but the liquid geography riesling in particular was just perfect. We picked up a few bottles to take back to Aus, but we should have got cases! The staff were really nice and accommodating as well.
Can't wait to go back :)

This is an amazing chance to see a mature garden in a harsh environment, designed to put on a distinct show in every season.
A highlight for me is the naturalistic planting in summer and into autumn. Simply inspiring!

It was such a shame it was very wet. Some of our party didn't have coats. I would strongly recommend taking coats if you are traveling to get to Flaxmere. The weather in the high country can be quite different from lower altitudes. We have learned by our mistakes.

Lovely little winery to taste local wines only available from here. Had a fantastic cheese platter with some salami and fruit and a bottle of Sauvingon blanc. Views are spectacular and the staff are very helpful.

Stopped in here by chance. Had a great wine tasting, so much so that we just had to get a glass of the chardonnay each. The olives in lemon oil complemented it perfectly. Great location to sit out, soak up the sun, take in the fabulous view and enjoy the delicious wine. We purchased a bottle if the chardonnay to take home and are only sorry we didn't buy more.

This place is great!! The owners were really friendly and approachable. The cheese platter was fantastic and the wine was amazing too (even lots of non wine options for those of us that aren't huge wine fans!) The animals were also fun. Highly recommend 🤗

What magical experience. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and the cheese platter was delicious. I was torn between the Riesling and the Sauv Blanc, but both were good. This place is family friendly as our kids loved feeding the Shetland pony and the horses, even the donkeys got in on the action. Overall, this is perfect spot to sit in the sun and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains as you enjoy a nice drop.

Lovely winery, very friendly owners and the little dogs are cute! Enjoyed all of the wines we sampled, my favourites were the Mother In Law (low alcohol), the Chardonnay and the Liquor. Coffee afterwards was exceptional. Nice assortment of home made cookies, honey and skincare products.

Granddaughter absolutely loved the 2hours we spent here. You can go into the wallaby enclosure and feed and pet them and also with the deer . All other animals you can feed and pet from behind a fence. Loved our time here

I'll little place to go with the kids when we were there there was a birthday party going on. They do have a few animals to pay and feed. U buy ur animal food separate when U enter quiet cool little walk down to the water buffalo. Would be awsome to have some trout/fish or eels in the ponds. U guys do an awsome job nice clean enclosures and perfect housing for each individual animal. We couldn't get over how busy U guys were. Keep the great work up guys

Mini golf afterwards made for a fun filled afternoon

A really fun little park with a maze to do and a mini-golf side.
The maze is really just a neat little activity whereas the main attraction would have to be the golf in my honest opinion.
I hoped the "treasure" at the end of the maze was something memorable to take home like a mini-souvenir, though I won't spoil it if you have never been here.
Would definitely go a round or two for mini-golf. It was really fun.
The place sorta needs a facelift as it is looking kinda worn.

Went to A-Maze-N-Golf today as soon as it opened.
Got a combo maze and golf entry for only $20.
The golf was so cool, really cool theme, well kept greens, challenging shots. (I didn't win, but that didn't matter).
Then went into the maze, not knowing what to expect. it was a really cool experience, shooting around looking for clues, seeing my partner jump at all the maze surprises. (Not gonna post spoilers of the maze, but the big aztek head aesthetic fit the theme.)
Highly recommend stop in Hanmer.

Great fun, the maze was awesome for the kids, (a bit dark in places for the young ones but over quick) water challenge was a fun for everyone. Mini golf was good too. Great way to spend a couple of hours.

A regular stop for my family when we venture to Hanmer. Always a barrel of laughs and we never remember where all the clues are. Good price too.

Bought a Maize and Golf combo deal for two adults and two kids (8 and 10) which we completed on two separate days as we turned up too close to closing time. The maize was surprisingly fun and we all thoroughly enjoyed hunting for the clues. The mini golf was the perfect amount of fun and challenging and everyone enjoyed the course. The combo deal was great value, definitely recommend! 👌

What a cool little spot!
Maze + Mini Golf super fun and well themed. $20 per person. Well worth it for my partner and I for a fun time @ $40. There is a challenge throughout the maze that you get a gold 'coin' for at the end. The golf course has 18 holes all with their own little challenge.
Makes for a fun activity & a great place for some pictures. Have attached some photos - the ones with myself have been retouched/edited.
Only 4 stars as the maze could probably do with a professional water blast; still a great experience though.
Gillian May — Google review
Fun challenging 18 hole with a great atmosphere . Half the area is covered so helps in different weather. After we played a round we went on to the maze which ended up being a cool race to the end while completing the quotation by collecting all the words scattered throughout the maze.. yes I did get it right and collected the tasty treasure before leaving..

We did both the maze and the mini golf. Both were worth the money and we had such an enjoyable time. The water challenge was an added bit of fun and the mini golf course was well maintained and fun.

Our party of 13 couldn’t have been given a less enthusiastic welcome by the man running the office. It begun with him shooing our kids away as they went to the counter, followed by a few grumpy remarks made towards us adults. Begrudgingly accomodated, we stayed and had a very fun afternoon as a group, but no gold coins for us.
We adore this trail, particularly the sculpture trail. The majestic tall fir trees guide the loop track with soft ground, offering a pleasant and easy 30-minute stroll to enjoy tranquility.

Great walk in the forest. Appreciate the signs telling us about the trees and the history of the forest. The carvings were amazing. Really great to keep the kids interested in the walk. Always looking out for the next one. Really good walk, path suitable for all. Cyclists are banned which is good, although we did encounter one

Well worth a visit. There is no admission charge, just a short nature walk. It is a short drive from the town centre. Clearly marked walking trail with various length and intensity of trail to choose from.

It's not just a forest. It's an experimental exotic plantation a century after it was begun! With a humorously cute sculpture trail to explore.
We loved the walk as a family with a 4yo in tow but it would also have been great on bikes, even for the youngest.
Tim Galea — Google review
A quick stroll in the forest. We did the 'Forest Amble' track. A quick track rated at 30 minutes that was an easy stroll. We stopped at all the signs and attractions - it took us 50 odd minutes. Great walk. The carvings are very good.

The forest walk was like a treasure hunt. It was so much fun walking around looking for sculptures and learning about the forest. We really appreciated the work.

We walked the Sculpture Track and the forest journey and it was a lovely place. The sculpture wall would be great for families and along with he beautiful scenery of the forest you can find the sculptures along your journey. An easy flat track to walk. The journey track is nice for a longer walk.

Super interesting European forest, lots of beautiful walks, right next to freedom camping sites, with DOC facilities nearby. The sculptures are beautifully done. Its a shame they dont do a very good job of representing NZ wildlife. Just possums and squirrels and rats?? What on earth where they thinking?? Like the craftsmanship is fantastic but where is the pride of kiwi animals? It did have fantails and tuatara which was why I gave this 4 stars.

Quite a busy place but lot more of interesting and creative New Zealand Souvenirs for sale. During our visit during Covid era, the i-site provided facia mask if you did not have one. Staff was friendly and they were very informative. This is a small place so we bumped into others frequently. I-site is just beside the hot pools and centre of town.

Four stars because I found Sharon at the information centre to be rude and aggressive. I'm a tourist here and felt like a child being reprimanded.
In fact she almost bit my head off for walking into the building with two small dogs. It's not what she said, but how she said it that offended me. I don't mind being told. In fact there are many dog friendly places in NZ. But she said dogs are not welcome in the shops in HS. How mistaken was she. I just had lunch at the Four Posts across the road, and they were extremely hospitable and brought water to my dogs while I ate my lunch. Plenty of folk there that could have cringed at my Shih Tzus but they didnt.
She answered my question for what I needed to know. Thank you for that.

Friendly staff. Has information and booklets on the walking and biking tracks in the region. Right next to the spa and pools and a short walk to restaurants and shops.
Lewis Pass, located in the South Island of New Zealand, is a historic mountain road that winds through a natural reserve area, offering breathtaking scenic views and a variety of trails for outdoor enthusiasts. The pass serves as an alternative route between the northern part of the island and Christchurch. Travelers can experience diverse landscapes including alpine hills, open valleys, and dense beech forests along this route.
We came across this pass while on route to the Western part of the island. We stopped for a short coffee stop and had a medium to short walk during our visit. I remember this place had some magnificent views and sure ones to not pass when in the neighborhood. Beautiful place overall.

Take this pass to get to the west coast instead of Arthur’s if you are towing a trailer or don’t have chains. But check on the NZTA website to make sure the pass is open before you hit the road. Road is in good condition though and the pass is not as steep as Arthur’s.

There is a little hot pool towards the northern end of the road, it's right beside the river and is only a 5 min walk from the road. Night time in winter when it's snowing is a perfect time for a sit and chill in the hot water... used to be hard to find. But it's probably sign posted these days maybe
Lake Rotoroa is a stunning alpine lake located in Nelson Lakes National Park, just 90 kilometers from Nelson. It's a popular spot for picnics and boating, as well as the starting point for various treks, including the Travers-Sabine Track. Visitors can enjoy activities like canoeing and hiking while taking in the picturesque scenery. However, some caution is advised due to the presence of wasps in the area.
Very nice picturesque lake. Canoed the length of this lake acquiring a very sore backside and stayed in the D'Urville Hut at the top end. What was very concerning at the time however was the population of wasps in the bush. The bush was absolutely rancid with them and in the heat they could be quite bad tempered.
The native bird life and insect life must be extremely stressed. Very bad scenario happening here with the wasps at plague proportions.
Seriously needs dealt with.
Gerard McCall — Google review
Absolutely beautiful spot. Very similar vibe to nearby Lake Rotoiti. However unlike Lake Rotoiti, it's a sandy lake rather than rocky. That might make Rotoroa it slightly nicer to swim in for some (both are pretty cold even in the summer though!).
The sandiness and waterfront vegetation at Rotoroa meant that when we visited (summer, on a sunny day) there were a ton of sandflies/midges, which were pretty unpleasant to deal with.
A couple of nice walks available but the path to one of them was not easily accessible due to surface flooding from recent rains.
Jordan Schroder — Google review
Magical morning! Go early in the morning to catch the best sunrise- I prefer the winter cause you can catch the snow and fog to add some mystery

Very beautiful spot with no one around..a little bit off the beating track but we'll worth the trip...a true gem
Parky — Google review
I couldn’t appreciate the lake due to the amount of sandflies I encountered the moment I stepped out of my car. Wanted to walk one of the tracks but changed my mind after having multiple sandfly bites within 5 minutes of reaching the lake.
Clare Sim — Google review
Feb 2020. A just adequate campsite with short walk needed to reach the toilets. Extreme nuisance from sandflys (blackfly), and many wasps in the upper canopy. However bush walks were thankfully free of sandflies (but not wasps). Lake is lovely for kayaking (and free of sandflies). Water Taxi available (for a fee) for transport to and from opposite end of lake. Spot the huge eels (protected species) from the jetty at dusk.
Chris Breen — Google review

Doesn’t look like much this museum but is super good. The guy that runs it is brilliant. Passionate and very bright. He’s a star (is his name Cory)?) The difference between this museum and others is it’s about people and he’s the link. Great stories and a history of resilience, physical toughness and fortitude. Give that guy that runs it a raise imo.

We were fortunate to have one of the local guides show us around, share stories, and provide an interactive experience. He even opened the water valves and showed us the working hydro power generation and the stamper. This took the experience to a whole new level.

We learnt that the company is under the new management and that we were their first customers. We're so happy that we did this awesome experience with them. We're grateful that Sonny and his friends were very accommodating despite booking with them few days before our preferred date. The communication was good, instructions were very clear and we were well taken care off, given that most of us doesn't have any experience with rafting. We had calm, chatting moments and some mouth dropping encounter with the rapids. We ended up the experience with some yummy treats that they've provided. And also the pictures that they captured were so cool and they even sent the copies just few hours after the rafting. Highly recommended! 👍

Booked on for the 1.30 afternoon rafting trip. Our guide, Jaren was great. Super friendly and welcoming and gave us loads of local knowledge about the river. Instructions were clear and made it really enjoyable, even for the slightly nervous adventurer. Holly took some great photos of the trip and her banana and chocolate cake which we had at the end of the day was superb!

We didn’t do the family trip, but the full one. We had a nice young “apprentice” guide and an experienced one as a supervisor. 5 guests on the boat. We had to reschedule on short notice and that was very easy. You have to do some paddling yourself (as usual). The gear was in good condition. The shoes however open themselves a bit with a chance to loose them. I enjoyed having free photos (a link to a file repository was sent on the next day). Everyone was nice, fun and professional. The scenery was very beautiful. The rafting itself was great, there were several good rapids.if you want to get completely soaked go to the front. I loved it. On 2 occasions we had the opportunity to jump from the cliffs. In one case it was right into the white water after a major rapid. The other was calm, but the cliff is higher. Super fun! There was coffee and cake afterwards.

This trip was something special. The guys made us feel like we were friends and almost ""family".
We were the only two clients that day, but they bought along another raft to train one of the guides, Quinn. There was lots of laughing and banter between the rafts.
They took us on an upper stretch of the Buller River that they rarely paddle on with clients, but that made it so much more special to us. We went on a smaller sporty raft with Jared which at the biggest rapid did flip, but that was a load of fun anyway.
After coming off the river, we sat round having a beer and cake with more laughter and banter. They even gave us recommendations of things to see and do on our journey further south. Local knowledge can be really valuable and it was so worth it.
This company was so much better than some of those companies that deal with mass numbers of clients rafting trips. At Ultimate Descents we were people whom they took a lot of care of. Top class morning of rafting!

My kids had a great time rafting. Although the water was low when we went, the rapids were still fast and exciting as they revealed more rocks. This means that you can go at any time of the year. The staff were also friendly and fun to be around. My teenage boys started off as beginners with no prior experience in rafting but the Grade 3 Buller River rapids were exciting and with guidance from Nathan and his team they had a really good time. Jumping off a high rock into the water and rafting across the bigger rapids were the highlights of the trip.
Would definitely reccommend commend this and I am looking forward to letting my kids try this again in the future.

Absolutely fantastic day out! Great hike through some stunning NZ bush guided by friendly and knowledgeable local, Steve. Billy tea and pancakes at the natural flames site was a treat. Would 100% recommend this to anyone who happens to be in the area as it’s such a great way to see the “real NZ” that you just can’t see from the road.

What an extraordinary experience - to see the flames of natural gas seeping from the earth in the middle of bush. As much as this was the drawcard for me I also thoroughly enjoyed the farm, the forest and the information passed on by Steve during the tour. Highly recommend.

This is a must do. We had an amazing day. A lovely walk through the bush with Steve providing just the right amount of fascinating information and stories along the way. He was brilliant. Guide extraordinaire. The flames themselves were amazing. And we also need to mention Robyn's organisation and communication when we booked. Highly recommend.
Best ride ever, Mark is a cool guy & very fun he knows stuff & we'll All be going back again, when we visit buller jet boating in the future kids absolutely loved & nervous mothers would do again definitely
Thanks Mark

Fantastic jet boat ride on the buller river. Mark was great fun and really went all out to give us an exciting ride. So so good. Excellent value for money too with 40 mins on the river and plenty of spins and close calls with the gorge walls. He also gave interesting stories about the river and area. I highly recommend this! Thank you for a great time!

Had an amazing trip on the Buller with Mark. He was such a good host and guide. Never done jet boating before and not sure we’ll ever top this one as it’s a stunningly beautiful place. Thank you for an amazing afternoon Mark.

Awesome trip with Mark who made us feel so comfortable and relaxed. Really informative and well worth doing the trip be prepared to get wet and have fun

This was shut the front door fun, Mark is the best operator in New Zealand, smaller boat than in Queenstown but more crazy, more professional and much much much more adventurous. You get your bang for the buck and then some.
I can't stress this enough, this is the BEST one and I highly recommend everyone to go here and enjoy it. We did others as well but this one... OMG, the speed, the thrill! Thank you Mark for really putting the F in fun for us 🤣 A 360° greeting from the Public Speaker from Sweden with special request 🤣

Have rode Shotover in Queenstown but this was miles better. Excellent 'Driver' and amusingly commentary. Suspension Bridge just added to the overall experience.
Looking forward to returning sometime soon.

We stopped here on the drive to Westport, and were so glad we did. There was a swing bridge going across the buller river, different walks to go on ,long or short, interesting things to look at for all ages. A zip wire ride, and best of all there was Marc with his Jet boat, what an incredible experience up and down the river, through the Rapids. Marc was an amazing character and really made the trip. Not the cheapest thing to do but well worth the money.

We had a fantastic time with Mark on the river. The scenery is stunning and actual ride is so much fun.
Mark is knowledgeable and his commentary was great, he is hilarious!.
And on a personal note, I want to thank Mark for his patience, support and kindness when dealing with myself getting on and off the boat when I was having difficulties with my legs, truly appreciate it. Such a gentleman.
100% recommend this trip.!!!!!
Thanks, Alisa, Rod and Sam.

My Husband and I had a spectacular time with on the jet boat. Mark, our driver went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. We wanted to take photos and videos, so Mark was very clear at communicating when was an appropriate time to video/ take a photo and when it was best to put the camera away to ensure we held on for some 360 spins. Highly recommend Buller Canyon Jet Boating. While there you can also experience the Bulla Canyon Swing Bridge. Thanks Bulla Jet Boat company and Mark for a wonderful day it is truly a holiday highlight.

We had a great time. Mark clearly loves the river and we enjoyed how fun and knowledgeable whilst also safety conscious he was. The jet boat is great fun, would highly recommend and would do it again if in the area, well worth it

Loved this adventure. Mark was fun but professional, gave us great information and plenty of chances to take photos. Really good value compared to Shotover and the opportunity to cross the swing bridge fun too. Mark also has wonderful taste in music.

Such a great experience. Mark the driver was lovely and so incredibly skilled at what he does. He took us to all the special books of the river and was so knowledgeable about it all. He was funny and made us giggle the whole way. 100% recommend heading across the swing bride and down to see him for a ride next time you pass through. - Nic & Caitlin.

Thanks for the awesome experience
Great little Town - Cafes, Bakeries, Gift Shops and make sure you take time out to visit the Old Miners Hut in the Main St and on a good day sit and chat with some of the old miners.

Well worth a visit - allow enough time to see and read all the displays, interactive and static information panels, and working machinery on the history of the mining, timber and habitation of the Reefton Bullet area. Fantastic natural history and current ecological information - and all for a gold coin donation to a great not for profit community operation- thanks Team Reefton i-SITE you are doing a fabulous job!

Took a friend here to see the active displays. She loved it. I never tire of going here as a local. Always something new to see. Was good to see the children's challenge tables fool and students of different ages enjoying themselves. Well worth a visit. Great staff.
Christina Mitchell — Google review
Helpful staff, insightful and interesting displays. Very clean neat and modern. Definately worth a look. However suffers from the usual eurocentric whitewashing that occurs in small town muesums, with next to no history beyond european settlers.
Monty McGuire — Google review
One thing they need to improve on is get postcards of Reefton in, As i was wanting to buy photographs of Reefton on the Postcards and they had none, Especially when Reefton was the first place in New Zealand to get Electricity going in August 1888
Tim Smith — Google review
This is a must visit to help you plan your time in Reefton. There is a tonne of information available (for a very minimal donation due to i-Site being a not-for-profit organisation), a replica mine and a very informative display discussing the history of the area as well as environmental issues faced by the area. The staff were welcoming and helpful.
My family and I did the Arnold Family Raft 1/2 Day Tour with Nathan and it exceeded all expectations.
It was my children's (11, 10 and 6 years) first exposure to white water rafting and it was perfect. Nathan was so clear on what to expect and made it fun for the whole family. He regularly checked in with the kids to make sure they felt comfortable and we all had a blast.
Nathan took us rafting, let us go for a dip in the water and even fed us and gave us a warm drink at the end of the day.
Would highly recommend Inland Adventures.

Just returned from an awesome 4 days rafting the Waiau River with Nathan (AKA Reefton), Simon (AKA Chunk) and Samson, Quinn and Bree as our guides. What a team they made! So much experience being shared with younger, newer guides = great to watch. It was a super adventure down a truly stunning part of S Island. The journey was full of amazing views, gorges, rapids, mountains and a few surprises. The food was really delicious (& plentiful). We felt safe, valued and entertained throughout the full 4 days and would highly recommend this expedition for any adventurous travellers. Thanks Nathan et al.

We took the 1 day grey wilderness rafting tour a few days ago. My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time! The rapids were fun but not scary or too strenuous. Nathan prepares a delicious "create your own" sandwich spread and takes pictures periodically on the trip. We got to swim a bit in the water as well where it was calm. A++ would recommend to anyone looking to connect with nature more on the South Island.

I had a great day's rafting with Nathan. He's an excellent guide, interesting to chat to, very experienced and knowledgeable. He collected me from outside the Ikamatu hotel bang on time and we drove to the entry point for the river. Once there we put on the wetsuits, boots, helmet and flotation aid before carrying the boat to the river, a few minutes away. Nathan gave a very good safety brief along with paddling instructions.
The time on the water was just right and the mix of excitement through rapids was balanced by stretches of calm. I've rafted elsewhere and it can be exhausting, this wasn't but that didn't detract from a great day out.
Thanks Nathan. 👍

We had an amazing 2 day experience with the Inland Adventures team in early 2023. We had a wide range of fitness, experience and ages involved and the team were incredibly supportive and made sure everyone enjoyed the rafting and the environment. We all felt safe and the food was incredibly good! It was such a good experience and I can't wait to go again.

Our family loves rafting with Nathan and Inland Adventures and we highly recommend both the single day or multi day options. Their campfire cooking on the multi day options is superb!
Buller Gorge Swing Bridge is located in the Upper Buller Scenic Reserve, 14 kilometers west of Murchison, New Zealand. It is the country's longest swing bridge at 110 meters in length and spans the Buller River. The bridge is part of an adventure park offering activities such as zip lining and boat trips. Visitors can enjoy a thrilling walk across the bouncy and narrow bridge, with the option to return via a zip line.
This place was awesome. My husband chicken out because he's afraid of heights bouncy bridges, bridges made out of thick wire mesh and very narrow bridges. If you are afraid of all four, don't go. This is a bridge that you "cannot close your eyes when you are crossing it !!" You need both eyes open and free hands to hold the railings to walk across. I was lucky that I was the only one crossing the bridge that day because it was raining and cold 🥶. You can either walk back or use a zip line to get back. I walked. Entry fee is NZD 10 per pax I think. There's a nature walk to experience the surrounding area but I skipped it because my husband was waiting for me at the entrance. A must visit..

Liked this place cause I love swing bridges and this was a long one. We did a Loop Walk and saw how much damage has been done by recent storms. Lovely walk and went back across swing bridge. Was a short zip line you could do across but hey, it's a swing bridge.

I am not sure about prices for kids. $5 no matter of child's age seems little bit dodgy. Most of the attraction like this are usually for free or half price up to 5years old.
Bridge was good fun but happy it wasn't busy. Bush walk 15minutes took us approx 7minutes. Beautiful views on river.
To be honest not sure if I would pay again for it.
Barbora Hammer (Barb) — Google review
Entrance cost is 12.50 per person. Which is not cheap considering that the walks on the other side are nice but not mindblowing. There is parking and its free.
If you have time make sure to stop anyway. The bridge is very cool and it’s definitely an experience to walk across.
Julian Honegger — Google review
We had a great time, gold panning entertained the children and adults for quite some time. Lots of informative history on the walk and the kids loved the comet line. Watch our video on TikTok by searching @centralfmchb

Quite expensive for what it is! We did the walk across the bridge, walk around the property, and the zipline back, which was about 15 seconds of flight (that's a generous amount).
The end of the zipline where it braces your impact is quite a loud noise, just be aware.
We have a top 10 membership that we could have used to save some money but didn't realize we could use it here unfortunately.
The walk was fine, and the unique part of that was the climb down to a beach you where there was some brilliant white rocks half in the water you could climb. and the deep fault-line walk was neat!
Pretty views on the bridge.

Longest swing bridge in NZ. It's much fun, especially for a family. A beautiful brisk walk through the natural wood. It's definitely a must!

It was a bit scary going over the swing bridge in pouring rain, thunder and lightning. But we lived to tell the tale. We didn't spend too long on the walks due to weather conditions, but still had a great time. The Buller River was in fine, fast flow.

Buller Gorge Swingbridge Adventure and Heritage Park is a must-do for everyone. We walked across New Zealand's longest swingbridge, did some hiking, and rode the Comet Line and Supaman ride on our way back. Far out.

Riding through the Buller Gorge on a motorbike is on of life's epic events right up until you get stung by a bee on the back of your neck.. I eventually pulled into the swing bridge site to see if I could grab a plaster as the swelling from the sting was rubbing. All the staff there were nothing short of amazing. Antihistamines were offered and taken. I paid to go for a wander and have a drink and chat with the guys there. Amazing place. Gorgeous venue and people. Thanks guys for your help.

An incredible experience that I can't believe I nearly missed! The entry, which is around $12 per adult, $5 per child, is well worth the experience of walking across the swing bridge. The views are absolutely amazing, and despite it being a daunting experience, I felt safe the full trip.
As I simply discovered the place while driving down the West Coast, I couldn't spend much time there, and I was very ill equipped. I crossed the bridge in my high heels! I'd recommend coming prepared - with sensible shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, and water. The tracks can be slippery, but manageable. I did the gold panning experience and though I had to really rush through it we still managed to find gold and the guide was really informative and helpful! If in the area I would DEFINITELY come back and do all the full experiences! Also a great way to conquer your fears!

Amazing hike through magical beech forrest, stunning ridge lines and mountainsides. The hut facilities were above expectations and toilets well maintained and clean (love composting ones!). Well graded trails for walking just be mindful of mountain bikers approaching. Two semi fit 70+ year olds we took enjoyed it! Lots of water along track depending on recent rains. $160 pp for up to 4 nights, bunk rooms vary by hut but everyone very welcoming and shared cooking facilities. Even a trickle shower available. Outdoor sleep outs good option for family or couples but not heated/no cooking - can use main hut facilities!

Did not know about this place. We walked a short way in over the swing bridge. We really have some awesome scenery in NZ

Superb walk, easy grades, spectacular exposure and great views. Excellent huts with lots of interesting points all through the hike. Great achievement to put this track through pristine country. It's a long walk but as it's built for bikes it's easy going.
Steve Warne — Google review
This is a sensational track – to walk or cycle. They have done an immense job to create a proper track over the entire 85km. This is fantasy back country stuff. Not just orange stickers nailed to trees, but dynamite and diggers and aggregate. The track is so well graded for cyclists that walkers stride up hill, barely noticing the climb. The huts are beautifully positioned and very well equipped – there are even bush showers. Each day has its own interest; 1st – Rising through beech woods, 2nd – ridge above the tree line, 3rd – skyline ridge (and the steps), 4th Boneyard (1929 earthquake carnage), and 5th – Mokihinui Gorge. I walked it in five days and will be back to cycle it in two, though there are other more heroic options.

AMAZING HIKE!!
The history of the track is just awesome! (You can read the all story in a very interesting book available in each hut)
The huts are perfect, always in incredible spots, comfy, fully furnished (fireplace, gaz stove, cutellery, pots and pans, thick matresses, compostable toilets...)
Well worth the 160$!
Some sections are harder than others but it's not too challenging.
You can decide to hike or to bike this road, you'll find good atmosphere every evening joining all the trampers/bikers! 😊
That was fantastic!
Thank you!! 😃

I'd recommend taking 3 days to ride the length of the trail. This will allow you plenty of photo opportunities! Trail is in great condition, with only a few places where it is difficult. Trail difficulty is intermediate with a few advanced sections, the most difficult section is between Ghost Lake hut and Skyline Steps

You'll be hard pressed to find 85km of anything this amazing!!
Old Ghost is the result of many thousands of hours spent by local men and woman punching the mountains until they yielded a trail.
And what a trail!!
Whether running, biking or trekking, few trails offer such varied scenery on such a manicured surface.
It's with good reason that the huts are booked out many months in advance.
I highly recommend checking out the trail in one day at the Old Ghost Road Ultra. Simply magic.

A great 5 1/2 hour ride up to highest point (Heavens Door) and back out to Lyell with a lunch break at Lyell Saddle hut
Don't forget to make a donation to the hard working track maintenance team fund if you are just doing a day trip and avoid paying hut fees. A fine snapshot of NZ native bush and high country scenery with some cool mountain bike track to boot

We left our car at the end of the Old Ghost Road and they took us to the beginning.
We arrived a bit early but they saw us drive past so came early.
The service was very friendly (we had the owner himself.
Asked if we needed to stop anywhere on the way and recommended the Berlin Cafe in the Buller gorge as a good place for breakfast. Very nice.
he also supplier sandfly repellent, something we had overlooked.
