How long is the drive from Mae Rim to Luang Prabang?
The direct drive from Mae Rim to Luang Prabang is 387 mi (623 km), and should have a drive time of 10 hrs 35 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Mae Rim to Luang Prabang, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with top places to visit like Maetaeng Elephant Park & Clinic and Thai Elephant Home, or the ever-popular Kanta Elephant Sanctuary.
The top stops along the way from Mae Rim to Luang Prabang (with short detours) are Kuang Si Waterfall, Thai Elephant Home, and Nam Phu Chet Si. Other popular stops include Kuang Si Butterfly park, Elephant Conservation Center, and San Kamphaeng Hot Springs.
Kanta Elephant Sanctuary offers an exceptional experience with hands-on elephant feedings and the opportunity for professional photos. Visitors are advised to bring sandals, a power bank, and a positive attitude. The sanctuary provides hotel pick-up, fresh fruit tea breaks, clean towels, and showers on-site. Feeding the elephants with bananas is a fun and muddy experience that's great for families. The staff is knowledgeable and ensures the elephants are well taken care of without forcing them into anything.
A truly magical experience. Our host called best (and his cousin: hero) were fantastic. They were knowledgeable and fun. The elephants which for my wife and I was most important seemed to be very well taken care off. I spent various hours looking for a “true” sanctuary and not just some show and Kanta really showed that they were a true sanctuary. The elephants seemed truly happy. For me a key sign was that the staff of the sanctuary didn’t force the elephants into anything. If the elephant had no interest in eating or bathing they simply let him walk away rather than keeping the elephant around for the tourists. Of course Kanta is making money and hopefully a profit (as it should be), contrary to some of the below leftist opinions (how can we save elephants if you make more money through bad tourism like elephant riding or elephant shows). Please visit this fantastic place and do your part.

We had a lovely time at the sanctuary. Having physical contact with such magnificent creatures was wonderful. Feeding them was great but the highlight had to be washing them in the river. Great fun. The elephants seem well cared for and respected eg no riding on them. Interesting educational information was also provided to go along with the fun bits.

Great sanctuary, you can tell the staff really care about the elephants. We did a half day which was perfect, fed the elephants three times (different food), made protein balls and have them a wash. Was very special as it was a bit quiet due to things picking back up.

A fantastic experience overall! Even just the half day visit packed in a ton of fun. We were able to feed the elephants twice in addition to petting and bathing them. We also learned numerous fascinating facts about elephants. The guides were top notch, as well as the facilities and other staff. The drinks, snacks, and showers provided are all additional great touches.

Kanta Elephant Sanctuary: A once-in-a-lifetime experience for the whole family
My family of 8, including 3 children aged 2.5, 8, and 10, recently visited the Kanta Elephant Sanctuary and had an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly and knowledgeable staff who made us feel welcome and at ease.
Our day began with a briefing on the sanctuary's mission to provide a safe and ethical home for rescued elephants. We then had the opportunity to meet the elephants up close and learn about their individual personalities and stories. My children were particularly excited to feed and bathe the elephant.
One of the highlights of our visit was the informative talk given by one of the sanctuary's veterinarians. We learned about the many threats facing elephants in the wild, including poaching and habitat loss. We were also impressed by the sanctuary's commitment to providing the elephants with the best possible care, including regular medical checkups and a nutritious diet.
In addition to the educational and interactive activities, we also had the chance to simply relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the sanctuary.
To conclude :
The sanctuary is located in a beautiful, natural setting.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about elephant conservation.
The activities are designed to be educational and interactive for all ages.
The sanctuary is committed to providing the elephants with the best possible care.
Your visit will help support the sanctuary's important work.

My girlfriend and I loved this place. The elephants had lots of space to roam around and were well treated. Our guide spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable about the elephants there aswell as wild Thai elephants. Would definitely recommend!

Our family had such a great experience here! Everything was so well done and we felt like we had plenty of time with the elephants. This might have been our favorite experience from our entire trip to Thailand!

Highlight of our trip. Our guide Tom was kind, educational, and obviously loves the animals. We got to feed, bath, and hug both adult and baby elephants. Lots of laughter as the baby sprayed all of us as we bathed them in the creek. I highly recommend this experience. It was well organized. They had uniforms, water and snacks, showers and towels, all provided.

BEST experience ever. The elephants were so well looked after and so gentle! My family and I had a great time learning more about them as animals, feeding and bathing them. The staff are great too, they take amazing photos for you and explain everything very well. Definitely a must visit if you're in Chiang Mai.

It has been an exciting experience that will be keept in our minds for our Thailand Trip. This sanctuary is very respectful with the animals and from my point of view, the explanations from the guide make sense with how and what they do. The only thing we didn't do it was the elephant shower but we were taking pictures of other people we met there and it was also funny. Be kind and respectful with the nature and keep saving those animals. This is a bussiness for sure but the goal are the elephants not the money. Hope this is always clear in the mission of the sanctuary.

Highly recommended!

Outstanding experience! All you need to bring are a pair of sandals, power bank and good mood! They have pick-up from hotel (around 1.5h from the ancient gate), fresh fruit tea breaks, clean towels and showers at the site. Feeding the elephants with bananas can be very close and muddy, there's just so much fun! Very good for family trip. And their photo graph is really great and worthy to buy, we spent 1200THB for all photos of us and they're so much better than our phone hhh.

Staff are extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. The guide we had had a very good level of English. We had the opportunity to get some hands on experience with the elephants which was wonderful.
I would caution anyone against going into the water with the elephants however if they are of a nervous disposition. Fabulous for young & old.

The elephants at Kanta Elephant Sanctuary were previously working elephants in circuses and the logging industry. These are domesticated elephants that will never be able to be rehabilitated into the wild. They are absolutely beautiful and deserve their happily ever after. It was so amazing to get up and close with them!

Half day trip filled with activities: starting with a cow ride to long neck village, followed by elephant show and ride; and lastly, bamboo rafting. Staff were courteous and friendly. Elephants were wonderful and fun. Lunch was average. Closes at 4pm

It's sad to see animals chained, It's also sad that in 2019 the biggest Elephant park is almost bankrupt and have already had to sell 50 Elephants out of 60 to the government that they could no longer afford to feed without any tourism because of Covid-19. Wishing Both the elephants a healthy 100 year LIFE and the employees a new place to work. Hope that they like in other sanquaries walk freely everywhere and find themselves enough food (10 elephants eat up to 300kg of food Every day)
Nick Van Breda — Google review
This park is very geared towards consumerism and I personally feel the animals are mistreated. The park itself is clean and they have lots of things to do. We did a bamboo raft tour and that was very enjoyable. The restaurant at the end of the raft tour was delicious. The staff were good, they took pictures of us on our phones for us to keep. Customer service was good. We visited the long-neck shops and women there- it was interesting. Lots of things to buy. But the negative aspects were overshadowing.
The elephants are chained at one foot and trained to not move. They will then wear a cut off chain that keeps them thinking they are still chained in place. On the raft tour, elephants are strategically placed along the river edges and what you can’t see very well is that they too are chained in that one place. You can ride the elephants but they have the seats you sit in- those cause pain and injury to elephants historically. They get lead around behind their ears with a hook held by the animal handlers. Just red flags.
We rode the ox carts and one cart had an ox that wasn’t cooperating. It took multiple drivers to get him back on the yoke and it was a little worrisome as the cart had 3-4 passengers. Once he was secured, the female driver took her staff and hit the ox multiple times to the face and eyes with great force. Somewhat traumatizing event for us and my 9 year old daughter.
At face value, the park seems exciting and wonderful. But when you take a moment to observe these aspects, it really makes the entire experience quite sad. Did we have a good time- sure. But I would pick a place that prioritizes animal well-being and not treat them like a circus.
Response:
I’m fully aware of what their carrying capacity may be and understand the ratios. However, the mahout, the howdah, and the 1-2 people they are carrying throughout the day and on a regular basis is taxing on their backs and spine. It poses spinal injury and tissue damage from the constant load. It’s not a matter of if they have the strength, it’s the regularity of it and their anatomy to bear that. They are in fact chained to cement floors because we walked past multiple areas where this was observed. It could be seen from the river ride as well. I also understand methods must be taken to keep them docile when people are interacting with them. They may not undergo Phajaan, but requiring them to perform tricks for patrons instead of living a protected life that is free of unnatural demands is a depressing life. I appreciate your response and willingness to explain and defend your business, however, I’m not at all comforted by it. I think there are a lot of attractive and fun aspects to your park, but I’m sad for animals there.

This place is offering an unique attractions by riding an elephant. I was happy cause it's walk to the river and hills. But I feel poor to the elephants, they seems hungry all the time and I worries about the animal welfare. Please be aware of this. I feel guilty by riding an elephant that time :(
Friskihari Laksono Wijiono — Google review
This is animal cruelty, all elephants are tired and exhausted and keep being punched with a hammer when they don't eat the food the tourists give. I went here and it was the worse point of my trip. Please do not come here if you are a decent human being.
Alley Nguyen — Google review
Place is nice, elephants show is great. I was amazed by the paintings elephants can do but l feel they are over worked they do not catch a break show after show all day long you can see how exhausted they are.

I wouldn’t come again. Very touristy with tight scheduling. From the beginning to the end it felt like a machine working on extracting your money.
Ox riding ok. Elephant riding quite a setup with the river and hilly ride. Raft tour nice.
Food mediocre and service bad.
Watching the show with any ethics in mind is not a good idea. I would be surprised to find something like that in Thailand in five years.
Payment only in cash everywhere, not self evident considering the steep price.
Martin Metz — Google review
These elephants are undeniably clever. However, it is sad to witness how harsh the keepers might have treated them (they kind of use a hook-like tool to beat them). It was nowhere near fine.
RIN GALAXY — Google review
This sanctuary is anything but ethical, if you want to promote animal exploitation this is the right place, where they are beaten, chained and abused.
I am ashamed to have bought the ticket, albeit in good faith. Never again!
Andrea Vigan? — Google review
Was upset the elephants were chained up all day except when they have to do show for tourists and ride through forest. Some elephants were so tired that they wanted to stop but couldn’t. 98% of tourists were Chinese that visited, was upset they had no respect or regard for the animals but I understand as they poached the tusks and are known for their wet markets. Many of the elephants in this park had their tusks removed- only a few still had there’s but they were younger.
Try not to get ripped off, it should only cost 700-800 Bhat per person for elephant ride and show.
Hello Kitty! — Google review
I grew up in Thailand. I watched them truly work when I was a child. This is a fun interactive environment. The elephants are well taken care of. We rode the elephants, down the river, over a hill, and back down the river. which was a perfect length of time. We then watched the show where they painted, played soccer, and demonstrated some of their abilities. The raft ride was very relaxing, and ended near the restaurant where we had chicken and cashews, massaman curry, pad thai, spring rolls, and fried chicken. Lunch was very good!
For all the idiots making false statements about chains and hammers, and abuse, they are truly idiots who do not understand how amazing the interaction is between humans and elephants. Please stop overstating the tools and methods used in order to sensationalize their point. The years of commitment and training is enormous, and a skill passed down through generations. This is a very good experience.

A unique experience while on vacation. We bought the 1600 baht experience where we rode on ox cart, rode elephant, rafting and lunch. The elephants are so adorable. Food was just not up to par with what we've had in Thailand so far. Flavor just not as good as other buffetts on day trips ex island tour. However buffet was only 200 baht or 7 usd. The elephant ride can be scary as he/she has to carry you up set of stairs and down a steep path and stairs. Must hold on tight!!! You can slip off!! My dslr was around my neck and in frint of chest. That poor Nikon took a beating on the horizontal bar that gated us in. Did u know a Nikon 850D chassis is metal??? Well, i found out after this ride! The raft ride ya gotta do last! We rode diwnstream 45 minutes!! Bring cash to buy coconut drinks or beers from vendors along the river. We tipped our raft rowers even though tipping is not as customary in Thailand. We ran out if thai cash so we gvae the 5 usd each aka 160 or so baht. Wear sunblock!!! Ox ride was lame... so if i coyld do over, id see if JUSt elephant ride and raft was significantly less than the 1600 B per persin pkg. Id skip the food qnd ox ride 100%. Pack ur own food!!! The elephant show was cute. Its worth seeing them paint.

Theres a performance where the elephants perform tricks like kicking, throwing the balls, painting. You get to feed them by buying some bananas or sugarcanes.
There's also an elephant ride and an ox ride. It's a little pity that the animals have to carry us people. They seem exhausted :( i hope they are taken care of well enough.
The bamboo rafting is nice and relaxing. Its a long ride so dont fall asleep ;)

There are a couple of activities: an elephant show, riding an elephant, riding a cow cart, and bamboo rafting.
I only tried rafting and enjoyed it; it took about 45 minutes, was a slow ride, really chill, and cost 1500 baht for 1-3 people plus 500 for each additional person. If you're with a driver, ask them to pick you up at the end of the raft. During a brief chat with the staff, they mentioned earning only 200 baht a day, relying mostly on tips. They also shared that during the low season, they might be ordered to stay home, resulting in zero income. The raft is really enjoyable that i wish I have a beach chair with me lol.
As for the other elephant activities, I could barely watch. I noticed an elephant chained with about 1 meter of moving distance and heard some elephants screaming.(edit: as the park said not screaming, i don't know what kind of sounds it is, but sure uncomfortable to hear). It made me realize that this place is more of an 'elephant camp' than a 'zoo' or 'sanctuary,' leading to significantly different treatment of the elephants.
If you get to come here as part of the trip, I recommend only do the raft.
Ps. I have been writing over 300 reviews of places around Thailand and the world. My opinion about the place are always true of what I experienced. No bias.
(Edit: the park go long way to reply to any below 2 stars review haha. Still form on my writing as i just wrote what i feel and experience)

Very nice and relaxing place to escape from the bustle of the city. However, I feel that it's cruel for the elephants to walk with people on their backs in the hot sun. I think it's good that there's an elephant clinic. There's also an elephant show where the elephants will perform tricks and even paint paintings. The paintings go for 1000 baht and all proceeds go to the clinic. Don't know if it's really true but one can only hope. You can buy bananas and sugar cane to feed them.
It's also close to the long neck village and again, it's iffy and it's borderline exploitation of these poor women who don't have power. They are managed by someone who built their homes for them. They sell Thailand souvenirs and also let tourists take photos with them for a tip, any donation is fine. The prices there are slightly marked up, as expected.
There is also an ox cart ride that we took to the long neck village and it was very cruel for the oxen too as they seemed fatigued and moody.
These places need tourists to upkeep the place but again it's harmful. It's a vicious cycle. Hopefully one day it will stop.
Bamboo rafting was 4km long and very relaxing. You may get bored after a while though.

Thai Elephant Home is a tourist attraction that offers visitors the opportunity to meet, ride and swim with rescued elephants. In addition, they have a breeding program and provide treks for guests. The sanctuary is run by a Thai family and is located in a secluded area surrounded by lush tropical forests and rice paddies. This place provides an escape from chaotic society and allows visitors to experience simple environmental living. It's an incredible experience for animal lovers who enjoy nature and don't mind getting their hands dirty.

If you love these beautiful creatures and you want to see them close by, consider going to a sanctuary instead: one with no bathing, riding or feeding! For example nearby Elephant Nature Park

It's not a sanctuary if you can touch and ride an elephant!!! They're telling you that they rescue elephants to provide a safe environment. Well they're making a tourist attraction out of wild animals, to make money. Inform yourself and don't go there.

It was a great experience to ride and play with an elephant!! The contact with the elephants and the nature is an experience of a lifetime! The elephants were well treated and the staff was kind! It’s hypocritical to say that the riding of an elephant is an animal abuse!

Looks like a more humane elephant farm. We got to meet and "bond" then each elephant gets only one person to ride a dog play in the river. Afterwards we saw other elephant farms that had herds of elephants, each with a saddle and carrying 3 people. So terrible experience at the elephant house was more personal and seemed more humane. We really enjoyed it!

While other travelers went to cheaper elephant visits and received a cheaper experience, I had a very authentic and memorable time with some baby and full grown elephants. I think the elephants here are treated as good as any elephants in this human populated world could be. With beautiful grounds and a nice home cooked meal I highly recommend this place.

An amazing experience with Elephants that are clearly loved and cared for. The whole day was wonderfully planned, with informative guides and so much time to play with, feed and ride the elephants (I know this is a subject of debate but if you ride horses, or have domesticated house pets, then you should understand that unnatural does not mean painful, or negative for these magnificent animals)
Plus the lunch at the end was absolutely delicious and even nice hot showers to clean up before departure

Geniunly one of the best experiences of my life and you can tell the elephants are happy! After searching long and hard for hours for a properly ethical elephant sanctuary I finally was recommended this one by my friend, and im so glad I listened to her. The people are some of the nicest, funniest people you will ever meet and even the drive there was made fun by chit who we did kareoke with! Once we arrived the whole experience was well thought out, good fun, mesmerising and above all ethical! The elephants were clearly healthy and cared for and were allowed to free roam the area. The waterfall and the lunch they give you are other highlights bur if u wanr a sanctuary that truly puts elephants first, come here without hesitation.

Wat Ban Den is a grand and extensive Buddhist temple complex located in the north of Chiang Mai. The architecture, sculpture, and craftsmanship are all exquisitely designed with traditional Lanna style. Visitors are greeted by a striking contrast of colours used on the walls, timber elements, and roof construction that leave a lasting impression. One of the most unique features is the blue stupa at the peak of the compound decorated with golden corners.
This temple complex Wat Ban Den north of Chiang Mai is extremely well designed with fine Lanna architecture, sculpture and craftsmanship.

A very colorful but charming temple. It is one of the most beautiful temple complexes seen in Thailand. Even though it does not have the spiritual sense of a temple, it is a nice complex of buildings, statues and stupas. The colors used in the structures complement well with the surrounding nature.
Some part of it is still under construction and people can donate for the construction. Even the process of donating is made so interesting, letting us to hang a flag like thing on a rope.
The entrance is free and there is ample parking infront of the temple.

This is a very large temple and one of those must see landmarks in the area. I have traveled around much in Thailand; this is at least one of he largest temple grounds that I have seen. The grounds are beautiful and well kept and there are many bathrooms and a few snack and souvenir shops close by.
Best to have shoes you can easily remove as there are many different building to tour. While there was a couple of people in shorts, please plan with appropriate attire as you are entering a temple.

Absolutely stunning and rich in culture!
Such a serene and magical place. My favourite Wat of the many during my travels in Thailand. Amazing architecture and details spread over a vast amount of land. They are constantly building more structures to add more Buddha’s.
We arrived before noon and had most if the place to ourselves. An hour later it was packed as we left for lunch.
Very clean and well kept grounds. Shoes off and dress appropriately to show your respects. No entry fee, but donations accepted throughout the grounds.
The best was the lying Buddha. So grand and vibrant in the art and details.
Recommended to anyone who lives culture and is headed to sticky waterfalls as it is “relatively” close by.

The temple is also known as the Blue Temple (different from the one in Chiang Rai) due to its blue roofs and I was very amazed by the beautiful nagas and pagodas spread all over. There are at least 10 buildings spread all over the land, and they are actually still building more.

This is a 'must visit' temple complex with a stunning array of buddhist temples and stupas. If you're into photography, aim for the 'golden hour' and you will not fail to capture some fantastic images. The complex is clean and well maintained and, unlike some other temples in Thailand, seems to be place of genuine pilgrimage rather than a tourist destination.

Just an amazing temple complex! Still under construction, but this doesn't prevent you from enjoying the already completed beautiful temples. You have to spent couple of hours to walk it all. Tweechol Botanical Garden is a spacious and well-manicured landscape that offers various activities such as walking, riding, and boating amidst beautiful flowers and swans. The garden also boasts animal-shaped hedges, making it an ideal location for families to enjoy a peaceful retreat. Despite the slightly challenging drive to get there, visitors are warmly welcomed by the attentive staff who offer excellent service. Each room in the northern-style hotel is generously sized for families to comfortably stay in.
Here is the best for family to stay . Because of the space is very huge to explore with everyone to enjoy it. It's a very good location if you come from main road . During the hotel area is very beautiful and peaceful . The staff is very good service and warm welcome to visitors . Each room is like a northern style . Room size is quite big for family . I stayed with the family at the hotel/convention center on the property. This was an amazing 1 stop perfect family trip.
The gardens are beautifully well kept and constantly evolving. The bike trails are well marked, the animals generally well cared for and healthy, and there are numerous play areas to stop, stretch and run around with the kids.
Bike rental is reasonable (2hr rental) or you can bring your own bike for a small fee and ride all day. There is food, coffee, and snacks all on the grounds making the stay a simple one.
Did I mention the main pool has a water slide? We will be returning for sure!

Such a paradise just outside Chiang Mai. We spent a wonderful day here, a lot of different trees and plants, everything is so well taken care of ❤️. We also enjoyed the swimming pool in the middle of the day, when it was the hottest.
You can rent a bike or a golf car och take a bus in the park - but we just enjoyed the park on foot, so much to see and admire! Recommended for everyone who wants to relax from a city buzz.
When it comes to the animals, they are in a good condition to my mind, not worse and not better than in any other zoo.. However, they shouldn't be kept in cages of course. But this is rather a question to the world, not this specific zoo. Deers are kind, rabbits are fluffy, buffalos were clapped by the man who took hand of their cages. I visited the park twice! The entrance is around 85THB and you can spent the hole day there.
There are multiple toilets and you can find some playgrounds for children.
It looks stunning and is nice to walk around.
Also there are buses who drive you around if you want and you can rent a bicycle.

It’s great here. We can see many plants that we don’t know. We recommend children to come and play. It’s fun, boating, horse feeding, etc. Even though the botanical garden can be called a zoo.

A tiny bit expensive by Thai standards but worth spending a few hours walking, biking or catching the bus. You can also get a guided tour in a gold cart by a knowledgeable and friendly driver.
The whole place is child and family friendly but enjoyable for adults looking for a quiet afternoon.
The cafe and restaurant is good and reasonably priced.

The gardens are very lovely with some cute playgrounds. We hired 2 bikes as it was hot and it is quite large. But way too expensive!!! We finally found a restaurant for a drink and foid. Service was super slow, but food was nice. I don't think I would ever go again. Why they charge for admission I don't understand!!!

A beautiful botanical garden with a small zoo. It’s worth renting a bike (75 baht), cause it’s a large place. A great place for plant lovers. There are also a few traditional Lanna style wooden houses you can visit.

Just beautiful place to spend lovely day surrounded by natural beauty of tropical paradise. It’s big and you can walk or pay for the rent of bike of tour car. The part of the botanical garden is also a small zoo with different kinds of birds but also deers, bulls, ponies and camel.

A pleasant stopover on the way to Chiang Rai or for something different to do when in Chiang Mai. The gardens are kept very well and so colorful - lovely fern and cacti. It would be nice if beautiful birds were clipped and allowed to roam free in the gardens - sad to see them in cages (but very clean)

A real hidden gem free from the masses of tourists! Super beautiful gardens with a really peaceful vibe situated about half hour away from the center of the city.
The staff were super friendly and it was a true privilege to cycle around this beautiful location.

A really beautiful garden where you can ride around with a bicycle and take cute pictures.
Only 3 stars because the animals are living in small cages.

Really fantastic and vast botanical garden not too far from the city center. So many beautiful displays and little walking paths to explore. Went on a Wednesday afternoon and there was hardly anyone there which is great for those who enjoy solitude. Renting a bike is a must if you want to see all of the grounds in a reasonable amount of time. I though this was way better than Queen Sirikit gardens. Will absolutely come back on my next trip to Chiang Mai.

We hired bikes and had a lovely day just riding around looking at all the different types of plants. There is lots to look at and the place is very big so the bikes are definitely worth hiring

118 Chiang Mai , Route 118, Choeng Doi, Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai 50220, Thailand
Wat Phra That Doi Saket is a Buddhist temple situated on Doi Saket, a small hill about 30 kilometers outside of Chiang Mai. Legend has it that Lord Buddha once visited the area and offered his hair to the naka for worship. The temple features a golden chedi containing a relic of Lord Buddha, similar to Doi Suthep temple.
Beautiful temple. More spread out than many other places, so be prepared to jump in and out of the car to visit it all.

If you like temples and views, it's a nice place to visit.

The air is good, quiet, food and beverages are inexpensive. How kind. He spread the gospel to them. Although there is a temple, Jesus' love will flow. I visited twice with a evangelist couple from Shanghai, China.
PEACE KIM — Google review
I visited this temple while traveling from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai.
Pros
1. I found it unexpectedly big. There are 3 big Buddha statues.
2. The temple is calm and likely used for religious ceremonies and celebrations.
3. Can visit for free
4. Free parking
5. There are a few shops to buy water, soft drinks and snacks
6. Clean toilets
Considerations
1. Please wear full length clothes.
2. It gets really hot and the idols are not in a shady place. Please carry an umbrella and cold water.

A typically fine Thai temple, atop a hill with good views (when pollution is not around).
You can drive up or walk the 350 steps (in both directions) and get some exercise.
Plenty to see and explore whilst there.

You can reach the temple passing through Doi Saket town. For bikers, you need to pedal a bit but it’s worth seeing the amazing wall depictions in the Main Temple created by the artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. There is a new very huge reclining Buddha statue construction going on and I wonder how it will look like after completion.

This temple complex is awesome. Many places go visit here. Ended up having a private blessing from Monk as I had fresh fruit offerings for them. We received free lunch from the temple kitchen. Do nice. Buddha statue at the top of the staircase is worth the stair climb for the view of the landscape plus the Buddha. Doi Saket is 35 mins from Chiang Mai centre.

Best view of Doi Saket once you reach the top. Not that difficult of a climb and worth the 200 or so steps up. Expansive temple property with various smaller pagodas and other buildings on this mountaintop Wat.

Even though I wasn't able to enter the Temple buildings, I give this place 5 stars for the sheer variety of beautiful buildings and Buddha images spread along the top of this hillside. The crowning glory is the great views from the top of long flight of steps upto a Buddha Statue. There are some food stalls here to provides for visitors and perhaps more for the community of monks living here. The site is still being developed with the construction of a reclining Buddha in process. Interesting to see how they're building this with a type of concrete/plaster being spread across a shaped metal mesh frame.
Miles Macdonald — Google review
Indescribable how holy this place where we had an opportunity to visit for the first time was to us. Upon arrival, after climbing step by step to the temple area, all of us suddenly felt the sacred serenity permeating all over the place. At first we expected the major crowd because of the weekend, but it’s surprisingly desolate and silent. Blissful for me and my entourage to get inside the golden pagoda to pay respect to the Buddha’s relics peacefully. Thankfully, once in a lifetime.

For a modest fee, visitors can explore the beautiful gardens and enjoy the steaming pools and rivulets of the spa. The hot springs offer therapeutic waters where visitors can relax, soak their feet, or even boil eggs in the warm water. Very nice facility with a lot of interesting features such as a serpentine footbath creek set under nice shade trees, a couple geysers, egg boiling areas, plus restaurants and massage services. Outdoor pool, indoor private tubs, nice gardens. Reasonably priced. Interesting with a lot to like.

This hot spring is one of the most popular hot spring in Thailand, Chiang Mai province. There are many hot springs well, some used for egg boiling, leg warming, kid swimming pool and bathing. Admission fee is 20 baht for Thais and 100 baht for foreigners. Seniors over 60 are free admission. Car parking is available just a short walk to the park. We visited here on Thai Children’s day when there is a special event for kids arranging here.

An amazing day trip!
We spent 6 hours there and it was fun for the whole family. There is a playground and splash pad for the kids. Also, a 40 degree mineral water swimming pool to relax in.
Some food options including som tom and roasted chicken.
Many people around during the holidays but since the space is so large, it didn’t feel crowded.
Would definitely come back for another day adventure.

The family really enjoyed a day out here. The kids loved the swimming pool and boiling their eggs in the hot springs, and generally running around the gardens there. The adults enjoyed taking a lovely relaxing soak in a mineral bath in one of the bath houses you can rent. Followed by a nice Thai massage. Everyone enjoyed the spicy papaya salad and grilled chicken

Nice Park and hot spring!
There are entrance fees and also different prices for foreigners (actually for all services inside).
Inside the park, you can dip your feet for free, but for swimming and proper baht, there are additional fees, which are affordable. There are towels and swimsuits for rent available too.
Here is my advice;
- Park the car before the entrance, you can save 40 Baht
- The food options are pretty limited, especially on a weekday.
- On the way to the park, some people selling a basket of eggs too, they were 10 Baht cheaper.

One of my favorite places to come during the cool season of Thailand.
During the evening time has some of my fondest memories. They have a snake river that goes roughly 200 m from lukewarm to 131°F or 55°C.
They have two different pools to swim in a couple bath houses that are private for the family, a hot date or with friends.
Great place to have School trips.
Also has camping 🏕️ sights.
I would recommend eating on the outside of the park instead of eating inside. The Thai food isn’t so great inside.

I stayed one night there. The cost was 1200 baht. I enjoyed the relax weekend there. I really like the hot spring directly in my bath tub. There is a hotspring swimming pool too. But, I found out that the water in the swimming pool has lots of mold and green algae. It might not be safe to swim there. I wish they will change the water more often and remove the mold.

Really cool place to visit if you're in Chiang Mai. A bit out of the city so having your own transport is easiest. Otherwise you can take a minibus from the city which takes around 45 minutes. It costs 100 baht to enter the park as a foreigner.
My favourite part was definitely the boiled egg hot spring! You can buy 3 eggs in a basket for 25 baht, boil them and eat them after. It's a really cool experience. The mineral swimming pool is nice too (100 baht entry fee). There are other things to do, like get a massage or soak in the mineral baths but each thing costs extra.
I think we spent a bit too long here (4 hours) because of the bus timings, so we were getting very hot by the end. It's definitely worth the visit though. And I'd return again, but maybe with my own transport so I could be more flexible with how long I stay.

Loved it. Very shady and well designed for chilling out and soaking your weary legs. There are parts where you can bathe but at 40°C+ just my calves and feet were thoroughly pampered. I tried to move to the 45-50°C pool but it was just a touch too hot. Very nice to sit and have a beer while your eggs are boiling and relax. Elderly are well catered for too.

People come here to enjoy the natural hot springs and foot bath. There is a ticketed entry but it's really cheap. Inside you'll find a large stream for dipping your feet. You can buy eggs to boil in the designated area (be careful). There is also a few snack bars.
If you walk around you'll find these really nice large beds made of webbing. I recommend relaxing on one after you've had a dip

A very impressive hot spring in Chiang Mai, not far from city, only one hour to drive.
The water of the hot spring was definitely natural, slippery and smooth, 38 degrees may let you into the water for over 1 hour, relax and feeling skin getting better.
Don’t forget to go to buy a basket of egg, only 25 Balt each and cook them into specific hot spring water, nice experiences
Chen Cheng — Google review
The place is so large and have many tables to sit for groups. They also decorated with beautiful flowers especially orchid around the place. The water from hot spring is a little too hot although they said it's around 44 degree. Overall you can be relaxed and enjoy soaking your feet in the warm water.

This is a very nice place to chill, for a group of family or friends. its around an hour more drive from Chiang Mai city centre.
the hot spring provides different degrees. Me and my family soaked our legs into the hot spring river. Everyone is very self-disciplined, the hot spring is very clean.
Don’t expect too much of the food there, better dine outside first and bring some snacks there. However the the coffee was good.
Dorothy Lei — Google review
We can highly recommend these hot springs- it was so comfortable and peaceful; easily taking up an afternoon to hang out, eat some lunch and drop your feet in the soothing water.
Very convenient half day trip from Chiang Mai (around an hour drive), winding through some mountain roads. It costs 100 baht per person to enter, and you can soak your feet in various temperatures of water as it flows through the park. There were plenty of restaurants/cafes open, selling ice cream, drinks and food.
The highlight of course is boiling your own eggs in the hot springs - it cost 25 baht for a basket of 3 eggs (which came with fish sauce!) and the pools have little hooks to hang them on. The only thing I would note is that the timings they have on the wall are not accurate- add ~5 min more to whatever the sign tells you.
Overall, really amazing experience and I would definitely come again if I come back to Chiang Mai!
Caitlyn Eberle — Google review
I thought it was just a hot spring and didn't expect much, but surprisingly it was quite spacious and had playground, a camping site, a walking trail, and many food boothes,
so it was a place where families or couples could come for a relax.
The entrance fee is 100 baht for foreigners, 40 baht for Thai adults, 20 baht for elders and infants, and 40 baht for vehicle parking.
There were also many foreign tourists, especially Korean tourists.
After entering, you can enjoy the foot bath at any time by sitting in a comfortable place in the park, but additional fees apply for full body bath, swimming pool, massage, etc.
Eating eggs boiled in hot spring water is also fun and a delicacy.
Even if you're not a fan of hot springs, you might want to consider coming for a walk or a picnic. In fact, I saw many families who brought camping chairs and tables and ate under the shade of a tree.
For those who have never been here before, I strongly recommend to visit krup~!

This is a representative hot spring located about 41km east of Chiang Mai International Airport. The entrance fee is 100 baht. Foot baths can be enjoyed according to the temperature along the long waterways, which can be better than the effect of foot massage for travelers. In addition, it is possible to put eggs in a basket and heat them in hot spring water close to 100 degrees Celsius, and there is also a corner where you can buy fresh tropical fruits.

It was nice to play at a golf course that is in a natural mountainous setting. It was in the month of January where the morning temperature was18 degrees C and could go up to 30 degrees C. The was no cloud. It can be very hot in the afternoon and the sun can be very strong. Whenever possible, we kept the buggy in the shade, where it was cooler. The fairways and green were in good condition. My caddy was knowledgeable and cheerful. On the whole, it was a pleasant experience.

Great place for golf. The mountain course was especially scenic, the greens were quite firm and challenging to land on. Also the greens here are kinda special/weird, it looks like a big downslope but your caddy will tell you it's uphill. you wont believe them, but then u have to. It's something that has to do with the mountains, I don't get it still, but it's unique.
And my caddy (Caddy 102) was really experienced with the course and gave good advice, if you get a chance to choose one, she's good!

Very nice course. Very easy course. Well maintained. No need to worry about tee off over water except hole 2 on course A. That's a par 3. Other than that, I can't recall any scary holes.

Located in a remote destination in Chiang Mai about 40-50 mins away from Chiang Mai International Airport. The resort is very calm and silent providing a relaxed atmosphere. If you are tired of all the noise and digital interference, this is the place to go and practice your golf skills.
There is no separate reception desk for the resort villas. Everything (check-in and check-out) is handled via the pro shop at the club house. Everything closes at 18:00 (19:00 the latest) so be aware of this and prepare early for water, drinks and food. If you want your laundry done, contact housekeeping. Not the pro shop.
The resort villas are clean and have barely any insects inside the rooms, which was a pleasant surprise considering the villas are located in a jungle like environment. No mosquitos inside the rooms so zero bites during my 5-day stay. Guess our gecko friends did their job well.
The pool (also closes at 18:00) is also very relaxing with max depth of 2-meter (if I am not mistaken). Water temperature is just perfect!
Highly recommend checking out the spa after 18 holes as they are awesome!!! Prices can be a bit high but it's really worth paying a visit. Foot massage, aroma oil massage... they are all great!!!

Namtok Mae Kampong is a picturesque waterfall nestled amidst mountains with a peak of 1,700 meters. Although small in size, the natural beauty of this attraction is enhanced after rainfall. Protected trees dot the area but unfortunately, there are large bags of litter that detract from its charm. The clear and refreshing water sounds delightful as it cascades down the rocks. It's advisable to visit early in the morning to avoid crowds and slippery stairs if you plan on climbing up.

I was surprised to see there are many levels of waterfalls as I was climbing up the steps. Some of the steps are steep and slippery. I only wore a slipper and it was not designed to climb on those surface. So, I decided to give up half way before reaching the top for personal safety reason. I will come back next time with proper footwear.
There are some yellow signs there warning the tourists on the potential danger of the climb.

Check out my video on my TikTok TTSWThailand and soon I will put something up on my YouTube The Travelling Social Worker in Thailand

Beautiful spot. Easy to get to on motorcycle or get a lift from a local taxi for 20 baht from the village.
The waterfall itself goes up another 300m or so via the stairs on the left. BYO towel and swimmers for a cool off when you get back to the bottom. The stairs seem to on for ever and when you think there can't be any more... there are. I can imagine this would be pretty spectacular in the wet season and somewhat less accessible.

Nice nature, many waterfalls, difficult climb.
Itay Sisso — Google review
Though it's not the most beautiful waterfall, but it is still very cool and fresh at that place.
One of the good places to spend time with the nature here.
Visited in February 2023
Tang Augusta — Google review
It is a small waterfall not far from the village.
I am glad I went after it had been raining otherwise I think it may have been disappointing.
There are a few large trees that are protected from being cut down.
A shame that the bush was littered with many big bags of garbage.
I think many people go here to drink beer.
It was pleasant enough to spend a short time here.
I did not climb to the top as the stairs were very slippery.
Therese Jay — Google review
This is a beautiful waterfall that is worth visiting if you are in Mae Kampong. Entry is free. Parking is very limited, but the remote location means that it is seldom super crowded. There is a challenging stairway (be careful it is slippery) up the various levels that is worth checking out.

Rest stop with stalls selling baskets of eggs to boil in the hot spring, plus a relaxing footbath.
Pretty awesome hot spring rest area. Nicely stocked 7/11. Fun abandoned building to explore nearby. Plenty of place soak, relax and chill. Vendors here do sell items at a premium. As this is a natural hot-spring, water does smell like sulfur. Would love to see them develop the area a bit more.

Visited this place when we were on our way to the White Temple in Chiang Rai. The driver told us that it was a rest & service area, but it turned out that it was more than that. The locals cooked eggs using the boiling hotspring and sold to visitors/tourists. There were some shops in the surrounding selling all kinds of handcrafted souvenirs and artistic items. The entrance of this place is free of charge.
Nge CT — Google review
Hot spring where you can boil some quail eggs or chicken eggs for 20baht. There’s also a hot foot bath from the natural springs in the back near the toilets. Bathroom cost 5 baht to use. There are stores and a cafe nearby if you need to grab a snack. Common stopping point on the drive from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai.
Zinnia Xu — Google review
It's really fun 😊 boiling Eggs 🥚 in hot spring's. Nearby many shops are available for food and there is toilet at the end side with 5 baht fee.
Out tourist van stopped here for 20 minutes.
Pranav — Google review
This is a typical tourist “station “ with hot spring as the main attraction. The shops all selling same or similar cloths/souvenirs and the overall experience is a bit dull.
The abandoned Thai ancient buildings beside the hot spring is relatively more attractive even though it’s not really old and more like a theme park. It’s good for photos anyway.
Tower Leung — Google review
A cool place with two geysers with boiling water, plus an abandoned temple right next to it – at least it looks like the construction wasn't finished, and the place was abandoned. Be careful with geysers, the wind can blow hot drops oland steam on you. Anyway, this place is cool to stop by, if you're driving this road. There are a few coffeeshops and snacks available on site.
Alexander Fortuna — Google review
Awe-inspiring presentations for visitors, when you drive past this place, You cannot ignore the aggressive hot water fountain, smoke from the stream, and sound that really grab your attention to stop by this place. The critical success behind the impressive presentation is the water pump installed near the pay toilet.
Songcharoen V. — Google review
A quick pit stop to observe the springs, use the restroom and try some roti.
Local sellers walk around selling raw eggs for tourists to purchase and cook in the hot springs. There’s a few stores and food options too.
The roti was delicious and there were different options for fillings.
There’s a fee to use restroom, they are maintained well and have toilet paper - there are two styles of toilets to use so make sure you look through both stalls to see which suits best.

It served as a pit stop while traveling from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai.
There is a free parking and free entry.
There is a natural water geyser which actually has a boiling water fountain. The water is steaming hot.
There are several shops that sell food and other items. Some shops allow you to take a bath in the mineral water from the geyser.
There is an abandoned building that looks like a temple. The building is actually empty from inside and it might contain some trash.
Asheesh Gupta — Google review
This is basically a huge parking lot on one of the main roads, flanked by souvenir shops selling silver and souvenirs.
On the entrance, inmidst of concrete and parking cars and busses is a natural geyser fountain that may be natural.
A bit further, hidden between the shops, some hot water comes out between the stones and is collected in two or three brick wells.
Local ladies cook eggs in one of these wells.
You can also bath your feet there, if you find a spot not occupied by one of the thousand tourists.
We spent 10 Minutes there and that was 6 too much.
Two stars for the friedly lady who made a quite decent strawberry smoothie.
Treckfish — Google review
This was a 30-minute rest stop. You are able to put your feet in the hotsprings. The water felt amazing. One hotspring had a continuous geyser. There are plenty of shops and restaurants in this square, but one square over is an amazing structure. It is in need of repair, but it's very beautiful architecture. I spent most of my time in the foot soak, the water was very warm and felt great.
Beverly (Beverly) — Google review
Not really a whole lot to see here. The two hot springs boiling was interesting for a couple of minutes. We soaked our feet for a few minutes in the footbaths and went to the restrictions. We did had a coconut and it was cold and sweet.

This is a really good spot to stop and take a break . Enjoy a drink and relax by soaking your feet in the hot spring water. Lots of little cafes and nice clean toilet

Just a service area on the way from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. However it has a big hot spring fountain at the entrance, and a free foot bath. Making it a special place. It feels very relaxing after trying the foot bath. It would be better if there was roof at foot bath to prevent the strong sunshine.
Vincent Chiu — Google review
Great place to stop if you are driving by. Many shops and cafes. Hotspring on both sides of the road. Free to enter including footbath. Toilets 5 baht.
Niko Ikonen — Google review
Worthwhile visiting if you are passing by but wouldn’t come just to visit this place on its own.
Ladies are selling some eggs there for 20B that you can boil yourself, which I found pretty cool 😄
Diana Jefimova — Google review
It is an interesting stop to Gold Triangle. It is almost a mandatory stop for group tours for rest stop here.
You can dip your feet into the hot spring, which helps you to relax, or pay to get eggs cooked in the hot spring. The best vendor is the banana pancake stand, you will find plenty YouTube videos of it. Pity the unfinished hotel project is kind of eyesore now. Would be better if they open the part up as a fake ruins park. Would be more photogenic.

A rest stop on the way to Chiang Rai from Chiang Mai. The hot springs here are legit and there are vendors selling eggs in bamboo baskets for you to cook them.
Up close, the spewing of hot boiling spring water is quite impressive. Be safe and take your photos with care.
Tip: Bring 5 baht coins if you want to use the toilets.
Wilson Foo — Google review
Its impressive to see the hot spring water spraying out from the well and there quite a number of stalls selling souvenirs thats no links to the hot springs. Anywhere, there pools of hot waters where you can soak up the feets. Located along the way to Chiang Rai. There others foods to choose from along the same stretch of road.

It’s a nice pit stop on the way from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai with a hot spring. There are stalls selling basket of eggs to boil in the hot spring. There is a 7-eleven and some coffee shops. Wouldn’t recommend visiting unless it’s on your way.

In Thailand's embrace, where nature's wonders sing,
Thaweesin Hot Spring, a soothing thermal spring.
Nestled 'neath the hills, its tale unfolds,
A haven of warmth, as ancient as stories told.
Centuries whisper, a healing touch it imparts,
From Siamese kingdoms to modern-day hearts.
Waters blessed by time, tales etched in the stone,
Thaweesin's legacy, a sanctuary known.
Nature's symphony, where hot springs gently play,
Bathing souls in tranquility, night and day.
With each ripple, a dance of time and grace,
Thaweesin Hot Spring, a serene embrace.

There are a few hot spring stops along the way from Cheang mai to cheang rai. This is one of the stop i took. You can dip your legs in the natural hot spring water pool or buy some eggs that are boiled in the natural hot spring water.
Edward Koo — Google review
It’s not actually a geysir, nor the highest geysir in Thailand as I could’ve heard. It’s a man-made fountain that they turn off in the evening. Nice hot spring to cook your eggs though, the egg lady advises to cook them five minutes but you should leave them around 8 minutes so they’re nicely cooked. It’s nice to bathe your feet after a long trip.
Amelie Salvadori — Google review
Most travel and tour guide will add this stop if you’re traveling from chiang mai to Chiang Rai. A nice spot to get some air and get some coffee. Not much to do other than dipping your feet into the hot spring, which is just lukewarm. I don’t think there’s any other thing to do —wish they have hot spring starter pack, like sauna or foot massage.

There is a public hot spring where we can cook eggs in using a basket on bamboo pole. There is an auntie selling chicken or quail eggs at 20 THB per basket (2 chicken eggs or 8 quail eggs).
There is also a cafe where you can get coffee (ranging 55 - 75 THB) and you can enjoy soaking your feet in their hot spring pools of various temperatures for free after purchasing a drink.

Worth enjoying some time here including the new garden.

Must visit! Less visited temple in between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. We visited on our private tour of Chiang Rai from Chiang Mai but this temple isn’t on as many of the similar itineraries for these trips.
We loved it! The entrance to the temple area is very grand with beautiful clouds painted on the underside for a dramatic effect. Many many beautiful pastel large statues. Statues up front representing good/evil, virtue/sin. Sins including sneakers, beer, etc. This is a more modern temple built in the last two decades I think.

If I were to make a Top Nine list of wats (temples), I would consider this one! Absolutely beautiful with the statues, buildings, Mountain View, and skywalk. They also have many amulets here. By far one of the most beautiful temples I have ever been too. So many gorgeous building and statues. It is also way less busy then other popular tourist temples as it is far away from the city. This temple as their own special Monk that is believed to be magic. People pay lots of money for the amulets that have been blessed by him. Definitely stop by this temple if you are in the neighbourhood.

A less popular temple rich in nature. There are splendid temples and a big Buddha.
According to the locals, about 20 years ago, the temple was so popular that it was difficult to move forward because there were too many people. At that time, a famous monk was present, so it seems that people rushed. After that, the monk moved and it seems that the popularity has decreased as it is now.
It might be interesting to go around while feeling the flow of the times.
There is a stone disc at the entrance with carvings in the shape of the zodiac. Lucky if you can put a coin in the carving of your zodiac sign there

An old temple in the middle of the lake which a boat ride is needed.
Nothing much to do there but you can enjoy the view on the way.
What a poor experience to see the local just caught fishes, turtles literally from the lake itself and put them in a bucket for anyone to pay some amount of money in order to let them free. What an easy way to do some business!

Fun to take the little wooden boat here and see the small Buddhist shrine in the middle of Lake Phayao. Great scenery on a cool and cloudy day. The man paddles the long wooden boat there slowly like a gonolier in Venice. Shrine is very small and still under construction with workmen hammering and drilling when we were there May 2022. Still worth seeing for 50 baht. Recommended by Captain Dee. May 8 2022.

- 100 Baht each person for 2 people on boat
- Better give some extra tips to the driver, he got a cheap daily paid. Many rounds don’t help him to get more money. The drivers deserve tips!
- Staff shouldn’t clean off flowers when visitors still there. It’s better to clean when visitors left, otherwise next time visitors would never want to buy flowers from the pier.

The Vipassana International Meditation Center, Rai Choen Tawan, was founded by V. Vajiramedhi, also known as Phra Maha Wuthichai, on January 29, 2552. Its purpose is to serve as the "center for spreading Buddhist teachings to the global community" (International Meditation Center). Located at 217 Ban Mai San Pa Hiang, Huai Sak, Mueang, Chiang Rai, on an expansive 170-acre site, it is bordered by rice fields to the north, Huai Sak reservoir to the south, and the community road to the west. In addition to being a hub for spreading Buddhist teachings, the Vipassana International Meditation Center, Rai Choen Tawan, is also the location of the Alternative Education Development Institute for Buddhist Economics at the University of Buddhist Economics.
The name "Rai Choen Tawan" translates to "Inviting the Sun," symbolizing inviting enlightenment to guide life. The sun is analogous to wisdom, dispelling darkness. When wisdom manifests in the heart of an individual, ignorance dissipates. Thus, Rai Choen Tawan serves as a spiritual training ground to transcend the dark realms of life and attain a state of "enlightenment like the sun."
As Phra Maha Wuthichai wrote in his poetry:
"Inviting the sun, a rainbow spreads, radiance
Inviting the art of science and poetry, the sky turns colorful
Inviting the jewel of nature, a single drop of water
Inviting the Buddha's teachings, a fragrant heart blossoms"
Within the Vipassana International Meditation Center, Rai Choen Tawan, there are sections for visitors to explore, each designed to provoke thought and serve as a guide for life. These include the V. Vajiramedhi Art Gallery, the Genius Monk Steel Super Hero, and the Buddhist Metropolis. Visitors can stroll through each area, reveling in the beauty of nature and finding spiritual fulfillment.

I love the idea that they tried to make it look a Japanese temple. Though not a Wat, the monastery is supposed to be where people could seek inner peace somehow the Japanese way. They also offered Lanna language class which is very precious. They let kids learn "Buddhist teachings", Thai classical dances, and how to live life meaningfully, I suppose. This is a must-go when in Chiang Rai.

Additionally to that, they exhibit several art pieces during Chiang Rai Art Biennale 2024 that are amazing. Probably the best location of the Biennale with the international art museum!

This place isn't just a farm stay—it's like being part of a big, welcoming family. Apple and her crew go all out to make sure you feel right at home.
I stayed in this cool tent that felt more like glamorous camping. It was super clean and comfy, and the mountain views were amazing. Being surrounded by nature was so relaxing; it's the perfect break from city life. There is an option to stay in a completely private house, with rooftop area and sunrise view. Whenever you need to get some work done outside of your staying place, the restaurant's terrace is a chill spot with Wi-Fi, bird songs and of course delicious food!
There is a lot to do here, like biking, swimming in the lake, and joining fun workshops on stuff like Tie Dye, Wild Honey, Thai massage and many more (look at the photos).
The best part? They're all about being eco-friendly and natural. They'll even chat with you about healthy living and sustainability if you're keen.
Basically, Rai Ruen Rom is more than just a place to crash; it's like a little paradise where you can unwind and soak up the good vibes.

This is a great full experience. The cafe on premise is full of delicious and unique food and drinks, the little houses area extremely cozy and comfortable, and the farm has a handful of activities to choose from. The views of the farm from the house is one of the most beautiful views. The private dinner on the roof of the house was a experience as well. I would give more stars if I could, we’re definitely going to come back here regularly.

We had the best time here! Is the staff and owners are very friendly and you feel like part of the family and community.
Accommodation is great, food is delicious and portions large, activities are fun and it is eye opening to learn more about the Thai plants and how it can be used in different products.
We can’t wait to come again!

Apple the owner spoke perfect english and she made us feel very welcom on her farm. We didn't expect such high quality and class truely an exceptional stay. One night and it included many activities. The roofttop house was utterly beautiful and they prepared a traditional thai bbq on the roof for us. All food and drink has been organically produced here on the farm. Apple the guide explained to us all the production and harvesting, and we sampled everything....lots of flower, leaf and fruit eating.
The kids and especially us adults loved the salt egg preservation and natural tye-dye.
Delicious food and drinks, and a conscious sustainable community project. Definately worth a visit for a few days or even to stay for volunteer work. Thank you so much for this unexpected and stimulating visit.

Awesome and restful stay at RRR which is run by owners who put in their hearts and minds and souls to plough the land and turn it into a fruitful place. Despite the long dirt road to get there, one feels the great sense of peace and harmony on arrival. Everything - from the tents, amenities, restaurant, food and beverage, stay-in programmes - are thoughtfully designed and created from ground up, in oneness with nature. Staff are recruited from the surrounding community so the place and its projects directly benefit the lives of the locals. Unusual practice such as the staff eating merrily together with the owner family. at the same table within the restaurant and seeing how joyful the staff are in their service and going about their task, are truly testament to the owners' resolve to run with love and grace,
We are also thankful to meet and chat with Apple and family (the owners) and hear of their amazing testimony of vision, perseverance and steadfast faith. Their two lovely Collies and gorgeous princess also light up the moods of our kids. Great work, keep it work, and God bless!

Amazing farm stay experience. The founder was very welcoming and gave us a tour around her property to share all the sustainable farming practices and diverse crops. The food was very fresh and tasty as well.
We stayed in the tents which were very clean. The bathrooms were also clean and had very hot water! For those staying, they also have activities such as DIY honey, cookie making, and tie die.

Beautiful teak wood temple built in Burmese style a century ago. A must visit if in Chiang Kham or passing through on road trip. Roads leading to are narrow but can fit up to passenger vans with good driving. Museum houses old artifacts (including a first gen Sony PlayStation!). Grounds keeper kind and offered to take pics without prompting and have us water as we departed. Buddhas inside are in style of Burmese and are true historical artifacts.

This is the best one for the visitors from other regions or other countries to visit the old Thai-Yai style with friendly people.
It's a pretty hard climb but well worth it for spectacular views and forest solitude. If walking about 4.6 km up a steep hill (plus 4.6 km of leg burning downhill back!) is not for you there are 4WD pickups to carry you up and back (except the final 600m walking only track) @ 100baht per person. The walk...... unless you're super fit all 5 or 6 hours for the return journey and take lunch and drinks. You're in a forest all the way.
Mark Mcconaghy — Google review
No map and no english signs, finding the trailhead was bit tricky.
Steep 5 km hike (2000 ft elevation gain) along slippery 4WD road for the first 4km. A lot of skitters on the lower elevation, bring all the insect repellent you can get your hands on.
Take boots with a good grip as it is hard slippery clay surface.
All the huffing and puffing will be rewarded by spectacular panoramic views in the last kilometer.
We hiked on overcast day - less view but more comfortable temperature.

(Translated by Google) It was my first time walking up and down Phu Langka. The distance from the office to the mountain top is approximately 4.6km. Total round trip is 9.2km. The way will be covered with large trees. The path is the same way that off-road vehicles travel. It is quite steep. Before getting to the top of Phu Langka, there will be Noen Nom Sao as a stopping point to admire the beauty. After that, walk up to the top of the mountain for another 400 meters and you will find a million-year-old stone terrace and an angel altar. With the beauty of nature in 360°, spend 3.5 hours walking up and down and taking breaks to take photos.

Nan Riverside Art Gallery, situated 20 kilometers north of Nan city, is a prominent venue for experiencing the burgeoning local art scene. Founded by Winai Prabripoo, a renowned Thai artist and Nan native, this expansive private gallery serves as a contemporary art center showcasing works by local artists. Nestled along the banks of the Nan River, it offers tranquil surroundings to appreciate diverse exhibitions.

Great view for sunrise here. It’s a short steep drive up to the carpark and from there, it’s a 760m walk to the viewpoint. The walk up is no too difficult, but the road could be slippery on a wet day. I took about 12 mins to reach the viewpoint. It was a bit hazy on the morning we were there, but the view is still beautiful as the sun appear on the horizon. Worth the trip here

Such a nice place! Very peaceful, we were alone when we visited! So nice to escape the crowd for a little while.
We came here as a day trip from Chiang Rai, the ride is pretty smooth, just be careful during the slopes.
There is public toilet before you reach the parking lot.
From the parking it’s 750m to the top, but it’s kinda steep.
The view is very nice, and it’s funny to know that the highest point is actually in Laos!

It's actually very beautiful when you see with your own eyes but when taking pictures it doesn't reflect the real beauty of it. You need to get up there very early to see the floating mists or when sun rises. There's a camping ground if you want to see that early. The road up to it is very steep and curvy along the way up so it's very dangerous to drive up especially if you drive motorcycle. ( If you follow GPS which always guide you to shortest route) . I was really scared to drive up and keep squeezing the breaks as it was just so steep. Accident can surely happen easily especially during raining season. however there's s safer route up from Toung District but it's much longer so make sure to do your own research with the safer route.

It was very cloudy, and we cannot catch the sun rise. But it it is quite an easy climb up from the base camp (about 780m). Never wear sports shoes, as my climb buddy kept sliding and landing on his bottom. Near the peak, the climb can be a little bit hard. In July, it is cloudy, best time to visit according to local was in December. At the peak, Thailand and Laos are bordering one another! You do not need passport to cross over either side of the country (Joke).

Sadly the haze actually was such a huge disappointment for us but the view at the mountain top was truly amazing. A bit of a tough climb for us due to the smoke that we have to inhale but luckily it wasn't that high.

Wat Phuket is a temple located on a small mountain in Nan Province, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The name "Phuket" has no relation to the famous Thai province; it actually comes from the local term for a small mountain ("Phu") and the village name ("Ket"). Visitors are captivated by the stunning scenery of rice paddy fields and charming local houses. The temple itself is adorned with impressive paintings, including hidden cartoons that showcase the artist's creativity.
Very nice temple or in Thailand 'Wat' . Its a to visit place when you visit Pua. Love the temple set up and how the local enjoyed the temple. We were lucky to meet up with a bunch of young and small school kids doing their services for the temple. Cute... enjoyed our visit to the temple.

Many may wonder isn't Wat Phuket in Phuket?
Phuket is actually derived from the Malay word Bukit which means hill. Wat Phuket is build on hill.
A nicely build temple with lots of activities and nearby stalls makes it even more interesting.
There is a live local dance performance and you can see dogs, cats and chicken living in harmony.

Doi Phu Kha National Park is a renowned high-altitude park, known for its undulating hills and named after a towering peak that reaches 1980 meters. This nature lover's paradise boasts spectacular scenery and bracing fresh air. Home stays are available at affordable prices, though may lack the comforts of hotels. Do not compare them as such. The area is abundant with natural beauty and fascinating attractions worth exploring, making it an ideal destination for lovers of the great outdoors.
Doi Phu Kha National Park in Nan, Thailand is like stepping into a nature wonderland. It's full of green trees and stunning views that will take your breath away. I loved walking along the trails and seeing beautiful waterfalls.
The best part was climbing up Doi Phu Kha, the highest hill there. The view from the top was amazing, even though the hike was a bit tough. But seeing all the plants and animals along the way made it really cool.
There are also people from different tribes who live in the park. It was neat to learn about their way of life and see their traditions. Plus, you can camp there if you want to stay longer and explore more.
Overall, Doi Phu Kha National Park was like a dream come true for me. Whether you're into adventure or just want to chill out in nature, you'll love it here. I think anyone visiting Nan should definitely check it out.
Sarobol Montreerak — Google review
The national park itself is beautiful, as is the entire region of Nan. Unfortunately, it cannot be explored much because there are really no maintained hiking trails.
At the entrance to the park, we were told that it is basically just a camping site, and although there is a forest trail, it is not recommended unless you have a guide as much of it is unmarked, and in any case it does not offer much of a view.
As we were driving west down the slope out of the park, we passed some truly spectacular sights that could be made into some of Thailand's most amazing trails. Sadly, this park does not seem to be regarded as more than a campground.

I did not get to stay long enough to see all the park had to offer, but what I did see was absolutely stunning. We stayed in the cabins instead of camping in a tent. 4 twin beds per cabin, a shower, toilet and a small kitchen with a kettle for heating water and a microwave. It was quite comfortable. From the observation area where the sunset pictures were taken you can get a really wonderful view of the night sky. Turn the lights off around the building there, lay down on the observation deck and look up. It is stunning.
They offer food preparation, which is the best route to go seeing as anything else isn't really close. All things told, it was decent food at a decent price.
I hope to visit this place again when I have a couple of days to trek around and really enjoy the natural beauty of this place.

If you want to get closer to the natural, here is the right place. The weather is very fresh. The scenery is very very wonderful. By the way, I love Doi Phu Kha and will go there again next year. :)

Good for hiking but beware - lots of leeches and trails are unmarked. Very easy to get lost. Ask for a map at the HQ. If camping or staying at a bungalow without a vehicle you will have to walk 700 metres downhill to the restaurant/shop/HQ then back up again.

Spectacular mountain scenery. Inexpensive decent accommodation- take chalets phuka 106 - nice view. Sadly the only hiking trail is poorly marked in places and full of leeches. Visited in low season - getting meals was bit tricky as the kitchen closed at 5 and at any time of the day it takes up to 45 minutes to get a meal. No English information, you are on your own. perhaps your Google translate app can help a bit.

After doing A LOT of research on the best elephant sanctuaries, we came across the Mekong Elephant Park in Pak Beng. It was one of the most magical days that we have spent during our travels. Wendy and her team are amazing and really take care for their four elephants. We did not once touch the elephants, we were only allowed to offer them a piece of corn which they took from our hands. No riding, no swimming with them, nothing unnatural, just observing and learning about them.
If you plan a stop at the park, and are travelling by slow boat, make sure to only pay for the boat to Pak Beng. Otherwise you will need to leave the morning after your arrival and not be able to go to the park.
A must do if you are in Laos!!

I was given a tour by Wendy this morning. I love their goal of making the elephants as happy as possible, which includes making the mahouts as happy as possible. There are no hooks or other implements used on the animals, they forage naturally for their food which keeps them in good health. No tourist rides, no elephant tricks or demonstrations. These elephants are living out their retirement years with dignity and excellent care. You can feel good about your visit here. We walked with the animals, fed them a few bananas, watched them bathe and play at the river's edge. Delightful. There is also a Mong village with crafts display manned by local, salaried people, and a tiny gift shop. This is the kind of place with deep integrity. Highly recommend visiting.
*** Access via Sanctuary Hotel, they will bring you across the river.

Absolutely fantastic place, one of the few really ethical Sanctuaries. No riding/bathing/touching or ridiculous big groups. Just observe them in their natural habitat.
The animals are really being taken such good care of by their loving team and mahouts.
If you stopover in Pakbeng with the slow boat please book 2 nights and visit this place, it is worth every penny and you contribute to these beautiful animals. And as a bonus they have a 11 months old baby elephant who will steal your heart. Keep up the great work and thank you very much for welcoming us!

Wonderful experience when we stayed two nights and one day in the park. I’m normally not a big fan of animals park but this is really an exceptional project with very passionate and courageous people. Fantastic!
I visited the park few years ago while on a trip to Pakbeng and just came back in January 2023 and I can't say enough how impressed I was with the incredible work Wendy has done. The place is unrecognizable. In the best way. I had such an intimate experience, very small group, the elephants with their mahouts and our guide, Wendy - who couldn't be more passionate and dedicated. The park and the whole team really involved themselves the past few years to conduct a reel conservation project, they took part into the breeding program of the Elephant Conservat ion Center in Xayaburi, over 2 years of efforts which resulted in the birth of the adorable Boua, 80kg of hope for the elephants in Laos.
Watching Boua discovering the world around her and interacting with her mom and the very protective Mae Nat was such a privilege, a very special moment. It is very comforting to know she will grow up in this environment, with her mum, surrounded by love and care - and completely ignorant of the bad treatment man can sometimes inflict to elephant. she's truly where she belongs and hopefully represents the beginning of a new generation of elephants in Laos.
Not to spoil anything, the land is stunning, well preserved Lao forest on the banks of the Mekong. The park is employing many locals to make this dream a reality which is a great initiative in a place like PakBeng where access to employment is still poor.
Overwall, an excellent visit, a great team, happy and healthy elephants, committed employees, and marvelous involvement in elephant conservation work. Do not miss it!

Incredible experience! Me and my girlfriend spent the full day here and we both agreed it was the highlight of our trip.
After extensively researching for ethical elephant sanctuaries in Thailand / Laos I came across the Mekong Elephant Park and it 100% lives up to the 5 star reviews. The work that Wendy, the Mahouts and the team are doing is commendable, not only for the elephants but for the local people and surrounding environment.
The park had a no touching policy and we simply observed the elephants going about their day - which for me is absolutely the best way to see them. Boua, the 15 month old baby, was the star of the show! The best part of seeing Boua was that she was always accompanied by her mother and two Aunts, which Wendy and her team have rescued and helped to reunite - which made seeing them together very special.
There is plenty more I could write here but overall it was just an amazing day. If you are taking the slow boat to Luang Prabang / Thailand please stay in Pakbeng for 2 nights and visit this place!

Ethically and passionately run elephant sanctuary across the river from Pak Beng. I reckon they could take out the “Park” in the name as it suggests they are offering rides and petting etc. Very informative and well run tour and the traditional lunch in a beautiful setting was also wonderful! It’s lovely to see the elephants up close in their natural habitat being so well cared for. Highly recommend! Money well spent.

This place is amazing! We stayed for 2 nights and the whole experience was unbelievable. Wendy's passion for Elephants and the project as a whole really shines through the entirety of her team.
Their primary concern is the elephants well-being. No riding, no bathing with people and they're not forced to go near anyone. The elephants relationship with their Mahouts is really very special and you can tell they really care for one another.
I don't want to ruin the experience for anyone that goes so I won't go into too much detail but if there's anything I would recommend from my time in SEAsia so far, it would be to visit this place! Whether it be for a half day, full day or stay there for 2 nights. You're money is going towards something incredible.

After trying to find an ethical elephant sancturary, we came across this one online. It took us 4 hours on bus from Luang Prabang and we stayed in the town of Pak Beng.
The whole experience was great. As we came in the wet season we were the only two visiting, so we had a one on one experience with Kita our guide. They take great care of the elephants, and the baby is in charge at the moment. Everything was done at a respectful distance and the elephants lead the visit. Kita and the mahouts had so much information on the elephants in the sanctuary and populations across Asia. Would definitely recommend a visit!
Amazing stay.
Everybody is very welcoming. We had a wonderful stay near the elephants. The lodges were very well equipped and very clean. The guides taught us a lot about elephants and we were able to get very close to them. It was a truly unique experience and to be done at least once in a lifetime. A huge thanks to the team that took care of us, they made our stay unforgettable !
Li La — Google review
My rating is a combination of 5/5 stars for their elephant care and 2/5 for the accomodation etc. I rounded the 3.5 stars up.
To see the once captive animals back in nature, trying to adapt again, is marvelous. I think the work done here for elephants and the environment they need is a very good thing. The center has some projects they will explain to you in detail, as well as everything you need to know about their giants. You can walk with them, see them interact, maybe even touch!
Did you know elephants eat as much as 10% of their body weight? Funny thing is, it's a little bit the same with the ECC itself. From the 200$ (1 night stay) about 20$ are maybe what they need to spend per person for the whole food and accommodation. The rest should be seen as a donation. So coming here doesn't mean it's "worth your money", but rather a good deed.
My guide was Mr. Phong. He was amazing and funny, I enjoyed his explanations completely. All of the staff is amazingly friendly, I felt only good vibes.
The bungalows are extremely simple, no fan and almost no electricity (they mostly power up by solar energy and use a generator only 3 hours per day). Not all buildings are same, number 1a-5 have a nice view, my number 12 was in the bushes, view to the toilets. The mattresses were one of the hardest I encountered in 2.5 months Southeast Asia. The food you'll get you can't choose, the taste is so-so, keeping me hungry sometimes (even though the shared plates serve enough for everyone). Having no light in the night on the toilet gave me a camping feeling. All of this, considering the amount I've spent, was kind of a bummer. I know they preach "live with less" to protect the planet - but doesn't mean lowering the quantity also rising the quality?
Even though I recommend going there for a once in a lifetime experience, it is something I'll probably won't do another time. As a rather cheap traveler it was a huge investment for me and I came back with mixed feelings.
One last thing, now that I mentioned coming back: the Vans that'll get you there and back do a 3 hours drive on maps in 2 hours. Imagine how much faster you'll have to drive to be 30% faster than a navigation system tells you! Considering the roads and the speed we were traveling I often had safety and comfort concerns.
I wish the ECC all the best and hope they can improve some of the things to get truly amazing!

amazing place to have experience with wildlife and elephants. unforgettable! The activities are quited hard for small babies because they have to hike on trail in forest. Thank ECC!

The elephants reservation center is a 600 hectare located in Xianbury province, about a 3 hour drive from Luang Prabang. If you love the gentle giants and care much for their survival, this is a highly recommended trip. There's a choice to stay for a night or 2 nights. The visitor gets to observe the animals in a natural environment and see how the 30 rescues are thriving. The guides are highly professional and the stay in the jungle brings friends e.g. geckos, bats, birds and really marvellous butterflies. If in Luang Prabang, add to your must experience places! Reserve through their office in Luang Prabang in advance. One can also go kayaking, swimming, fishing on the lake.

Our stay at the Elephant Conservation Center was remarkable! We spent a long time searching around Luang Prabang for the "Elephant" experience that was the most eco-friendly, caring and respectful of the animals. As soon as we set foot in their office (say hi to Celine), we knew that ECC was the one : rather than taking the elephants away from their natural home to us, they took us to them.
We joined the 3D/2N Exploration program and, two days later, off we left to see our first (baby) elephant and so many more giants! The location is a wonderful forested peninsula diving into a lake - where we got the chance to watch the elephants bath. Accommodation is in cute bamboo bungalows with private terrace. The staff is always ready to help and the cooks prepare amazing food! During our free time, we could enjoy a beer in their restaurant, go kayaking or enjoy the sunset. We even played 'pétanque' and partied with the guides/mahouts at the end of the day.
This center is different from most sanctuaries and camps we've seen: their goal is the conservation of the Asian elephant. Through multiple projects (nursery, baby bonus, hospital, socialization, enrichment...), the ECC tries to re-herd the elephants and make them "wild" again - in the hope they can breed again.
We were so satisfied with our experience that we decided to stay a couple of days to volunteer! Thank you the Elephant Conservation Program, especially Céline and Anthony for their warm welcome. Keep on the awesome work!

The Elephant Conservation Center is a must-do if you are travelling around the Luang Prabang area and have an interest in animals and grassroots conservation efforts in developing nations.
I am in awe of the commitment this center and the staff have to the Asian elephant's survival. On a two day visit I learned not only about the elephant itself, but the challenges facing the species. There is a genuine passion in all the work that they do.
This is not your "ride the elephant" touristy style of place.
Elephants are respected as is their space. You will definitely have close encounters that are incredibly meaningful as you begin to understand the true nature of these gentle giants.
There are two day and three day options to visit. These include guided tours, chats with vets and vet techs, behavioural explanation, accommodation, food and transport to / from Luang Prabang and I believe Vientiane (but you may need to check that.)
Every visit supports the center - book if you can - you will not be disappointed at all. This was the highlight of my 2 week trip.

We had an amazing experience in the ECC. The staff was very nice and helpful since we have arrived at the ECC. We are so grateful with them, specially with our guide who took care of us and taught us about the elephants and the Center. The bungalows were so nice and you can enjoy the views from them. Food were so tasty and the facilities are so good. We feel so grateful for the task that they develop to preserve asian elephants in Laos.

This was such an amazing experience! ECC is working so hard to protect the elephants in a super ethical way. Everyone there is so passionate and kind. I learned so much and had the best time watching all the elephants and hearing their stories.

A lovely, tranquil and educational stay at ECC.
The premises are set up nicely at a 4-5 Ha peninsula surrounded by a lake. The accommodations are simple yet relaxing. The shared shower and toilet 'blocks' offer warm water and sufficient shower pressure to comfortably wash long hair. The communal restaurant area is set up to interact with the other guests and offer day long coffee, tea and cooled drinking water.
Lovely guided hiking trails, an elephant hospital, seminar spaces and a designated elephant bathing area in the lake are to visitors disposal. Over a hundred well trained guides, mahouts a vet and waiting staff make their living at the ECC. My only question is, why doesn't every visitor, to the Lao PDR, opt to be educated on the ever declining Asian Elephant population?

This place was incredible, how they treat the elephants and us the visitors, is just so wonderful. I spent 3 days in the ECC and it was everything i wished for and so much more. The staff are wonderful i was with ken the guide and he was informative, welcoming, and was just great to talk to and was a wonderful guide. The elephants are amazing and it was fantastic to see them in their different behaviors and just being elephants where elephants thrive most. In general i highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to make a small step towards a big change of helping these wonderful animals after all the horrible things we humans have done to them.

Best Elephant Center in South East Asia. One of the most wonderful and memorable experiences we had in over 6 months of travelling. A beautiful setting, and accommodation also.
On top of that, the genuine care for the rescued Elephants, the education provided, and seeing them in a semi-wild habitat was amazing to see.
It was so rewarding to know you'd visited somewhere that truly cared for the animals they look after.
Please take the time to visit!

We very much enjoyed spending time with these beautiful elephants, learning about them, the difficulties in caring for them, and breeding. Our guide has worked here for 11 years and really knows the elephants, the organization, and the mahouts. He spoke good English and was able to answer all of our questions. The staff was friendly, the food good and the bungalows simple, but comfortable. The 3 day 2 night itinerary is well thought out with the right balance of activities and downtime to enjoy the scenery and kayak. Come prepared with insect repellant and sunscreen for hikes. Everything else is provided. Hiking boots would have been helpful; you can get by with sneakers, but be prepared to get muddy during wet season. Flip flops are nice to have when walking around the dining area and bungalows. Beds have mosquito nets. There is also a nice jungle gym type play area for children around 10 or younger.

I spend four unforgettable days at the center. Being so close to these magnificent animals had a profound effect on me. Don’t expect any interactions with the elephants what so ever, cos there simply won’t be any. Instead there’s loads to learn and discover about them through the experienced, professional and knowledgeable staff at the center. They’ve been hit hard by the Covid pandemic and definitely deserve better times. The best way to achieve this is to pay them a visit. They do incredible work for the elephants, giving them a very natural, comfortable, spacious home to spend their days, after a hard life in logging or the tourist industry. The accommodation is sufficient, the food plenty and tasty and the surroundings phenomenal. An unique enriching experience that I absolutely recommend.

Nam Tien Lake Sayaboury, Sayaboury district, Sayaboury province, Sayaboury 00074, Laos
Located around 30 kilometers southwest of Luang Prabang, the Kuang Si waterfall is a stunning natural wonder that consists of multiple tiers and cool turquoise pools accessible through walkways and bridges. Visitors can swim in the tranquil waters or swing off ropes for extra excitement. There is also a public park with picnic tables where visitors can relax and enjoy lunch.
You will need to purchase an entrance ticket upon arrival at the parking lot. The entrance fee for locala is 15,000 kip and foreigners 25,000 kip. You can enter by electronically scanning the QR code of the entrance ticket. You can take an electric car to the waterfall entry point. Swimming is allowed at the lower point of the waterfall, but not at the top. You can buy food and go in. When I visited in December, the water was cold and I didn't try swimming.
Jihee Lee — Google review
I liked this place a lot, a good half day trip also for small children. The walk is short (without the upper trail which is optional) and I believe it can be easily done even with a baby stroller. Also, the location is mostly shaded and the water are cold.
Tips: bring a spray against mosquitos (especially for the upper trail), wear your bathing suit (you can change there but the water part starts early), buy some food to go at the entrance since inside there is only a restaurant and no snacks.
Details: We came on Friday and there were hardly any people there. The ticket costs 25k for a person (also children). A free electric car takes you to the entrance into the nature area through the village with multiple food selling stalls all over the place. In the nature reserve you first pass through the bear sanctuary which is nice but you hardly can see the bears. A few meters after passing the sanctuary you already get to the first waterfall in which you can swim.
After going through a few waterfalls you have a nice restaurant in which you can get lunch and from there you continue to the final, largest waterfall. From this point you can come back by a short asphalt road to the nature reserve entrance or you can go to the upper area of the waterfall which requires some going up all the high of the waterfall in the jungle and back on slippery stairs, this is a round trip that returns you to the other side of the big waterfall.
The upper (optional) area has a nice area of water and a view point to the source of the waterfall and an option to take a "boat" ride to the source of the stream for a small additional change.
From the entrance to the nature reserve the same electric cars would take you back to the ticket office area.

Lovely lakes and waterfalls. So blue, so beautiful, so lush. I believe you can swim in lakes 1-4. I swam in 3 and it was fun with a bunch of little fishes - essentially like a fish pedicure with little fish nipping at your feet. The water was COLD but very refreshing.

The highlight of my trip to Laos. Beautiful waterfall. Great place to take pictures and even swim! Shows you how beautiful Laos is. There are a ton of tours and vans coming to the waterfall. Super easy to coordinate. It’s a beautiful site. Come check it out!

Beautiful waterfalls, very clean, lush foliage all around. There is an electric buggy service to take guests from the main entrance (carpark) to the waterfall. Suitable for the elderly or those who don’t want to walk much.
Butterfly garden is also very charming. Separate ticket at $5 per person.

Still an amazing place. The main waterfall is breathtaking. Worth a visit in the early morning before the crowd. Later will be way too busy for my taste. You can eat on site if you are hungry with a nice view next to the waterfall.

Visited here with a tour group. While yes it maybe crowded during the times they bring you here it doesn’t take away from the beauty of this place. Brought a swimming trunks and a towel cause you have to take a dip. The water is cool and refreshing. There are little fishes that will take a nibble at you more ticklish. The tour allotted about 2hrs here which is more than enough in my opinion.

Beautiful place! Absolutely stunnig early in the morning, when the big groups haven't arrived yet. Nice little hike up and around the waterfall, but be careful, it can be very slippery when wet, because it's all mud and sometimes a bit steep. On the way down some stairs lead along a waterfall which can get your shoes wet. Must visit in my opinion !! :)
Flavia Thurnheer — Google review
Very nice waterfalls where you can also swim in some of the pools. There's also a nice little hiking trail to the top of the waterfall. The entrance fee (25000kip) includes a ride to and from the park entrance by electric car plus there is also a bear sanctuary that can be visited where we saw at least 4 bears hanging out. The place does get very busy but somehow we were still able to avoid the crowds and find some quiet or almost private places to chill.
martin de geus — Google review
One of the best waterfalls I’ve ever been. The water is clear and cold when you take a dip at waterfall level 3. Come early as there is less people around. Take the trail path rather than the asphalt road to the top of the waterfall.
There is also a bear sanctuary for you to enjoy. Donations are welcome.
If you are coming with a motorbike, you have to leave your bike at the designated parking area and pay 2000 kip for parking fee. Then take an electrical buggy to the waterfall entrance.
Toilet is clean too which is located next to the ticketing booth.
Atikah Azman — Google review
These are breathtaking waterfalls with beautiful coloured waters, visible to the bottom, fish swimming and not too crowded. You can walk as far up as you want to but even the top most layer is only a 10 - 15 minute walk of fairly easy climbing.
r2thebizel — Google review
I went to the waterfall myself by a rented scooter. It’s an easy trip. The traffic is not an issue at all but sometimes you need to be cautious with damaged hole on the road. It took me abt 1.5 hour to get the waterfall.
The waterfall is very beautiful and easy to get to it. The elders and children are definitely able to make it.
The water is not turquoise color like I normally see in social media. Anyway it’s still good.
Enjoy a coffee, a beer or lunch at the restaurant inside the waterfall area is a beautiful experience. Surprised that the price is reasonable and as equal as other normal restaurants in LPB. They don’t over price because they sit in the waterfall area like other places in Southeast area. Thump up for Laos people and Laos F&B business!
Please bring cloths to change if you want to swim.
H Nguyen — Google review
An otherwise beautiful experience was dampened by a sudden rain shower. We had just arrived and taken a few photos when the downpour began. Plans to swim were banished and the clear blue pools were brown with the increased water flow. The falls were still magnificent and worthy of the trip.

One of the big attraction around town!
Everybody seems to pass by so going early in the morning is a good idea, it open at 8:00.
Walking to the very top is a good idea too, the trail is a bit slippery so many tourist avoid it!
You can swim at the top...
Plenty of restaurants to eat just off the gate, you can also pick-up something to eat in one of the few picnic area...

What a dream spot, simply gorgeous. I highly recommend getting there EARLY. The site opens at 8am, we were there around 9 and there weren't many people. We took our time and stayed until 11.30, by then it was PACKED. Don't forget a 🩱👙 and a towel because you want to swim in those refreshing, christal clear waters.

Beautiful waterfall with swimming lagoon pools at the very bottom. Not too cold and definitely worth swimming around to cool off after hiking up and circling the upper falls and pools.
Watch your step as the trails are super slippery.
Probably don’t do the upper hike if has recently rained.

We loved it here. However, we went the right way up (when facing the Waterfall) and when we approached the "way down" path, we assumed the path beside it was up. Well, it was a path and it went up. We followed it through the Junge for about 1.5 km and ended up in an extremely lost place (See photo). Very curious. Then when ging down we saw that the actual path up was closed. We took a nice long bath which was refreshing and enjoyed the view. Can recommend. Even during off season, however. I can't imagine how crowded it is during high season.

One of the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve ever seen! Be prepared to see a lot of people there dressed up just to take photos. Wow wow wow! What an amazing place! So worth visiting. There are multiple waterfalls. Many of which you can swim. There’s even a tree you can jump off. So beautiful and such clear blue water. The main waterfall you can’t swim but it is like no waterfall I have ever seen. The most spectacular sight. At the main fall there is also a steep walk up to the top. Great for views and more opportunities to swim! Also an added bonus is a free bear sanctuary included in the price of the ticket. What a bargain. I’m pretty sure parking is easy and available.

This is an amazing place. beautiful landscape with peaceful feeling. There are two routes to go to the top of the waterfall, one is going through the bear reserve and the other is next to the waterfall. There is a big pond in the top of the waterfall where you can swim and watch small fishes playing in the water. There is a coffee shop on top of the tree where you can look at the beautiful nature with your eyes.

I've travelled to many counties and seen many waterfalls.
Although this one isn't the largest I've seen it is definitely the most picturesque! Definitely worth a visit. There is a second set of waterfalls and a butterfly park in the area. The second set of waterfalls is quieter and more chilled.

The waterfall is really nice and would desert 5 stars if not for the horde of tourists. Very well marketed place with thousands of stall selling food and souvenir. Might consider not going up to the top of the waterfall as it is quite a steep and tiring climb but the scene is so so only. You can also take a raft ride at the top and swim there. Cost is 25,000 for foreigner and the buggy ride is included.

Awesome spot. But aim to get there at 7.45am if you want amazing pictures with no one there. Climb to the top and swim in the top of the waterfall. Boat ride possible up there too for very cheap.
Swim at the top, see the view from the top.
At the bottom there are multiple places to swim, also jump off trees into water etc. very fun. But it does very busy after 11am.
It’s quite built up but is what it is. Restaurant, zip line etc.
buses of tourist arrive from like 8:30 so be early 🙌🏽

This waterfall is beautiful and also a great spot to swim. The bear attraction is cool too.
The only problem here is that if you are a girl, particularly a white one, prepare to have your photo taken by multiple Chinese tourists. The first time i went with two female friends it was happening to them constantly and i even noticed lenses pointed out way when we were walking. When i went back again on my own i didn’t notice any cameras at all.
Toilet seemed out of service (pictured bellow)

Went with the scooter. The road was okish but not the best. Tip: go around 3 pm and stay till 6. There was no one around and I could swim alone. You can hike up till top of waterfall and there is nice place to swim there. Hike via right as it has no steel steps and more fun (but very slippery and steep). Try only if you’re fit.

Nice view and information boards on the walking trail. The hike to the top is very slippery. At the top you can pay 10,000 kip for a short boat trip going to the “source of the waterfall”, but there is not much to see. At the top you can also hike for 3km to a cave with restaurants. Budget ~2 more hours if you want to do that.

Incredible waterfall. You can walk across the bridge at the bottom for photos in front of the falls and then climb to the top. Steep climb with sone hazards on the way up but worth it. A nice little 🦋 oasis to escape the crowds of the main waterfalls! Pricey compared to the main attraction (100k kip vs. 25k kip), but it seems to go to a great cause. The butterflies are most active on sunny days. The staff even provides a guide book to learn about the flora and fauna present as you casually stroll through the park!

This is a fantastic stop. The variety of species are beautiful and the chrysalis stages on display for educational purposes are gorgeous! Loved the fish spa break in the enclosure! Really gave me a chance to read the very informative booklet they provide you with for your tour, since while I was walking the butterflies got all my attention!

Highly recommended park. The entrance fee is 5 USD, you get a informative guide book for the park full of background information. The stuff is friendly and will explain you everything you have to know about butterflies. The coffee provides food and drinks. Go there

After paying the entrance fee to the waterfall, you can walk or take the electric shuttle and stop here. There is a separate entrance fee for different "packages" that can include homemade baked goods in addition to access to the grounds. It may seem a
little pricey but then when you find out the people running the park also established a small school for children in the area to continue learning during/after Covid, everything seems very reasonable. In this park you aren't just going into a closed space where butterflies flutter all around you, there is also a small cafe with a pond filled with koi; and a short "nature walk" with views of some small waterfalls.
Rodney Egel — Google review
Yes, it's more expensive than most other things to do but I found it worthwhile. Part of the entry price is going to their projects, supporting local children.
The staff is very nice, the volunteers tell you more details about some of the butterflies and their different life phases, and the overall park is very nicely put together and neat.
I spent much longer than expected and enjoyed it a lot.

This small detour from the main tourist route is totally worth it. It was built by a Dutch couple that have been in Laos for the last 7 years. This was a very interesting experience & we did learn a lot about butterflies here! There’s also a butterfly green house type thing that you can go in and see all the various butterflies on site.
There’s also a space for you to observe some caterpillars and even active chrysalis being formed/broken out of. Very knowledgeable staff and also a cafe on site that does Dutch apple pie (and loads of other things!).
If you’re going to or from the falls, just tell the driver to stop here. You can then flag another driver down on your way back.
It is NOT included with your ticket to Kuang Si Falls. It’s 100,000 Kip per person.

Nahm Dong Park is a serene nature preserve with picturesque waterfalls, forest walks, and caves. It offers visitors an escape from the crowds as there are more staff than guests. Though the road up to the park is rough, it's only 7km long and worth taking your time on. The forest walk lacks clear signage at its start but can be accessed through a garden beyond the entrance gate.
What a beautiful place to spend an afternoon (or day)! We had a great time looking around the jungle on the sky bridges, and took a dip in one of the waterfalls, which was absolutely beautiful. Afterward we had a quick snack (sour sausage and duck spring rolls) which was crazy good.

Definitely off the beaten path!! It’s a rough road up there but a beautiful park. It started raining while we were there so we didn’t get to experience much but we walked on the bridges and enjoyed some delicious fish laap and sticky rice!! A little more expensive than usual but we saw them picking the vegetables from their garden so we knew it was very fresh!!! There’s lots to do there and we can’t wait to come back to Luang Prabang so that we can see more!!!!
*we live in Laos so driving a motorbike up this road was fine for us but if you aren’t used to driving one I would maybe rent a tuktuk to take you there. The roads are VERY rocky and at times VERY steep.

A nice park. I just looked at the displays and walked the trails but enjoyed my time. 20k to get in and 3k for parking so the price was right. I think there were more staff than visitors so if you want to get away from the crowd this might be a place to go. The road up is certainly rough but it is only 7km so you can take your time and still make it in reasonable time. The forest walk could use some better signage at the start and along the trail, you actually get to it from outside the park, just past the gate, through a garden. The trip to the caves is quite steep and certainly not for mobility impaired. Waterfalls are very picturesque.

Nice place to take a rest from the busy Luang Prabang town in nature. The park has been cleaned and facilities been fixed after Covid-19. The road to go there is not so easy for a few Kms but doable on a motorbike. Really recommended for nature lovers. There was still enough water in some of the natural pools to take a swim even in the dry season (April). They also have Zip-lines activities and a small restaurant serving local produce.

Very great experience !! We tried the tree top adventure and zipline. Both were super fun and safe. The 300m zipline was espacially amazing, not only for the rush, but also the view. It took about 1h45. They also offer many traditionnal artistics activities. The park in itself is beautiful and is worth the visite. You can walk in the gardens, do a little trek of go for a swim. I recommend it. Very hard to get to the park (bumpy road), so I recommend to take the company transport (a jeep).

It is, what the name says: a park. Sadly I thought it was more of a natural national park. What I came across was an artificial park, that's still - what seems to be - under construction at a lot of points.
Entry fee is only 20.000 Kip, so it's alright, but if you want to do something more special like zip lining you'll pay at least 140.000 Kip.
The biggest problem for me was getting lost all the time. The map they give you is no help at all and I'm considered to have a very good orientation, still I ran around in circles quite often. There are several points where a map is shown as well, but they didn't pin where you were standing right now, so they weren't helpful.
The park looks a lot bigger on the map than it actually is. Their 45 minutes hike was 20 minutes for me. During march most of the big waterfalls were small or completely dry.
Don't get me wrong. There were some really nice spots and once everything is green and finished (there was a lot of plain soil around, making it look rather boring) I think it has nice potential. You can easily find spots to relax and have a good time or make some decent photos. But it just wasn't worth the struggle to get there compared to the other places around Luang Prabang.
The last 5 kilometers to the park are extremely difficult on motorbike. Some structural work for the road should be considered.

Nahm Dong Nature Park: This is one of the less visited sightseeing attractions in the Luang Prabang area. Possibly because getting there involves a ride over eight kilometers of rough dirt road. The site is located in mountains, approximately eleven kilometers south west of Luang Prabang Township. Travel time to get there is around thirty minutes. Note: for anyone considering going to this attraction, it’s recommended to go only in the rainy season. In the dry (December to May), there’s very little water flowing over the falls.
Onsite: The park is located in a fairly remote area so it’s advisable to take your own supply of drinking water when you set out from Luang Prabang. There is a secure parking area just inside the entrance gate, where you can safely park your motorbike. The park has a nature trail, a small adventure circuit and a nice swimming with a small café and restaurant nearby.
Fees: The entry fee for the park is 25,000 LAK per person.
The nature trail: This starts at the swimming and restaurant area. The trail is well sign-posted and takes you up to a lookout, where you can get some nice views across the mountains and back to Luang Prabang. The trail is actually a circuit which drops down to a small river from the lookout. When you reach the river you’ll see a swing bridge, suspended between large jungle trees, which takes you across the river. From there you have the option of continuing further downhill to a small ethnic village, or coming back across the river and following the trail up the water fall levels. Note: if you choose to follow the trail down to the ethnic village, due care is advised. The trail, although having handrails, becomes a fast-flowing creek in the rainy season.
The waterfall levels: This is actually the best part of the nature trail. It takes you along the edge of the river and slowly ascends a number of levels, which have picturesque waterfalls and small swimming holes. The trail eventually leads back to the restaurant/café area but on the way there’s a couple of covered rest points where you can relax next to the river and/or go for a refreshing swim.
Safe travels,

Just like everyone else mentioned, the road there is rough. But it's worth it. I did only the Zipline because I simply didn't bring enough Kip with me. And I needed to keep gas money. But a beautiful place. Had it all to myself! Wish I could have stayed longer and done more!

Nahm Dong Park is a beautiful park with a long river and waterfalls. We were here during the rain season (june) and there were NO as in NO other tourists, only a few locals. To get there we rode with manual bicycles. The road is really bumpy and dusty, so be careful about that.
You can also get a truck pickup from Luang prabang at 8:30 and get a ride home again 12-13.
The staff is really kind and helpful too:)

Really great nature escape. Quality installations. We did the tree top and zip line : sooo much fun. You can eat, swim and hike a bit there as well.

A MUST DO! I genuinely cannot express how amazing of an experience this place was, what a gem!!! We booked the night before, got picked up and dropped off at our hotel, essentially had the entire park to ourselves and it was just magical. All the staff were so so friendly. We booked the adventure pass (zip lining and tree top walking), both were so fun! Views from zip lining we superb and the guide took great pictures and videos of it all! We went during rainy season so waterfalls were full, swam in about 4 of the waterfall pools. Enjoyed many other beautiful view points and a delicious lunch with lots of garden picked ingredients. Can’t say enough about our experience here, book book book!

It was a great experience camping here alone, in the middle of nature. It was a great feeling camping under the sound of the rain, all you can hear is the sound of the water from the falls down the ⛰
The owner and the staffs were very hospitable. I couldn't be happier.

Such a good find.. so much to do! You could spend a day here easily. Entrance was 20,000 and theres waterfalls, cave, nature trails, cable bridge, gardens, chill out areas, cafe. For extra cost you can do zip lining, high ropes course and loads of other activities (about $20 for extra activities) parking free and lots of it. Only flaw is the road leading up to it, we were on a scooter and it’s very bumpy and dusty.

Great place just 10km from Luang Prabang, easily reachable by motorbike.
This park is totally underrated!
The entrance fee is only 20k Kip per person for which you can enjoy multiple walking routes, cave, small waterfall and great mountain view’s.
In addition to that there are additional options such as ziplining, weaving workshops etc for additional fee.
They also have cute place to eat where we had delicious fresh rolls (really decent portion for just 50k Kip) and mango sticky rice.
One could spend there one/two hours, others easily the whole afternoon.

A gorgeous park like area high up in the mountains outside of the town center with many great activities for the whole family. I did bamboo weaving and dream catcher making while another person did zip lining and tree top walking. Areas with recliners, tables and little streams...The park picks you up and drops off at hotel, Everyone is super nice with their children playing in the background. The day I went it was a quiet afternoon but can be fun with large groups too. Highly recommend!

For me, hidden gem of Luang Prabang. When I was there, the place was almost completely empty. Go and visit before Asian tourists will swarm this place - it’s so worth it. Great opportunity to witness beauty of the Laotian nature. The only downside is super bumpy road if you get there on a scooter but nothing too crazy.

Beautiful park that is up high in the hills. The access road is mainly dirt and gravel which is not unheard of in Laos, it's worth the effort when you get there. There are plenty of activities or you can just relax in the shade. They were doing a Laos cookery class when we were there. The restaurant is good and offers some traditional Laos dishes.

Nahm Dong Park is located almost 10km from the centre of Luang Prabang.
It's spread over an 18 hectares land which is full of beautiful plants and flowers. If you are looking for a fun place for your family specifically kids, then this would be the best option.
There are a lot of picnic spots which include straw huts, flower gardens, water spots and open spaces.
An entire day or a half day trip would be a great choice.
Fun Activities:
You could go walking, lounging, swimming, trekking, zipline or just sit at some serene place and do reading,
Zipline:
It's almost 45mins to 1h30min including six stations. You could enjoy a real forest, beautiful waterfall and the voice of the running water along the way.
