There are a parking lot available in the front of the area, then the animals on the way to the main recreational area nearby to the water. There are designated spots for BBQ, if you are lucky u can get one. There are wc and tap drink water nearby the water were the WC. Restaurants are closed du Covid19. Sweming and fishing are in the front, hiking trails on the back of the water areas. Take hand sop and toilet papers because there is nothing there.

We walked around the lake Ramsen, 4.5 km, very nice path (Vildmarksled on the map of Fjällnora) leading through diverse terrain.

One of the better options for "outdoor activities" in the Uppsala area. For young kids the animals and the kids nature trail can be a treat, for older kids swimming is fun. For us with a bit of mileage there's some pretty nices hikes.

Great recreational facilities and area for outdoor activities like ice skating, cross-country skiing and hiking. Saunas can be rented and after you can take a refreshing jump in the lake.

Super Nice farm cafe and the only place where i buy my ecological meat from, great quality. Interesting surroundings with the large rune stone and relics from the Viking age. Highly recommended.

Amazing place! So beautiful, with a serene atmosphere. Great fika and coffee, as well as some great items to buy that aren't typical souvenirs your find in Stockholm. Plus you have the largest rune stone and some great scenery. The owner is such a kind woman as well. I'd love to come back again in the near future.

The cabins are cozy and clean. Internet works. The place is peaceful and as close as possible to Stockholm and still secluded and quiet. Nature is everywhere. The beach is great and not crowded. The trails are properly divided by distance and difficulty. Overall, excellent experience.

A great camping site for a weekend getaway from Stockholm. There is a bus stop right in front of this place for the public transport users. There are several trails for hiking, a lake for swimming, mini golf and a few other games in Spelhalle.
It was our first time ever to camp and this was a great place to start. There's a spot just for those who want to pitch a tent. There are also marked spots for caravans. Their website provides all the details and it's pretty well organized. The bathrooms are clean and there's a kitchen where you can use the stove, microwave and oven. Make sure to bring your own cutlery.
For first timers, the basic tent from Decathlon is a good start as it's easy to pitch and there are instructions and videos that you can watch to use them.
Enjoy and happy camping!

It's a calm enviroment with a lot of nature to enjoy, you can easily catch fish. It doesn't feel like a parking lot with big white campers, there are not much people which is what makes it special. If it is raining you can buy a small stuga hut for i think 4 people, overall a really nice camping.

I was extremely satisfied here with the parking space, the location and, above all, the cleanliness. Many people say it's not clean, but I can't confirm that. Despite the space being fully booked, everything was clean.
Only the prices for showers are unnecessarily high.
I can still recommend the place

A nice cozy archipelago in Stockholm. Easy to reach. Beaches are a bit crowded. But a short trek and you will find a lot of small beaches which can be kinda private. A good walking path also present around the island of about 11km.

The newest cabins are lovely. Small, but well equipped and with three bedrooms. Enough room for a family of 4-6 people. In a nature reserve by the ocean. Perfect for camping, a weekend getaway or longer stay.

Good place to camp with beach and several marked hiking trails starting from the reception. Great way to enjoy the summer with well equipped toilets, kitchenette and even a bibliotek :) The prices are very reasonable and there seems to be a restaurant and a bistro open all days.

Camping is very spacious and pretty busy. We arrived Friday 7pm and managed to get last slot. Staff in reception is very polite. Unfortunately we got robbed. Someone stole our camping fridge at night.
Artipelag is a contemporary cultural center that offers various art installations, including photography. It also features waterside dining, adding to the overall experience. The location boasts large windows that provide breathtaking views of nature. The restaurant offers quality food and service, but some visitors feel that the prices could be more balanced with the value provided. Accessing Artipelag by car may be preferable due to infrequent bus services.
Been here for several times. Always enjoyed the good view. Even better when there is sunlight. Better drive a car since the bus headways can be quite long.

An absolute must when in Stockholm. A rainy day on our visit but only added to the feeling of being in and around nature. We ate at the cafe, not the restaurant. Really delicious Swedish food - all the usual candidates - herring, prawns, cranberry and all stunning. Wonderful day. Help yourself mushroom soup was very good according to my friends who I went with. Nice little poster from the gift shop too. Smashing.

Really nice place to enjoy with family. You can spend time walking around the path with a stroller or wheel chair as well. There is a cafe and museum. The main attraction is the golden egg. Highly recommend it if you are around stockholm. Make sure to check the opening times as the outer gate might be closed by the security company.

Fantastic place with good food and service. Very spacious and grandiose, the huge windows towards nature is key! We had the julbord which was very good quality and included all the classics. 2 hours is a bit on the shorter side for us that talk a lot, but we managed. Even though I was satisfied in general, I would like to see a slightly lower price to have better balance between cost and value.
Sebastian Norling — Google review
Followed the nature trail, it was a nice walk with scenic view and occasionally stumbling on to thoughtful displays of modern art pieces by Artipelag. Worth the travel away from Stockholm City center for a bit. Nice food at the Artipelag restaurant too, try the shrimp salad.

Super nice sightseeing, nature and landscapes. A must go for who admire any of these!
The space is super kids friendly as well, and there are often activities available.
A nice cafeteria with a view and an even nicer restaurant, for the second booking is needed!
The temporary exhibition was not really my/our thing but, apart was really nice! And actually it’s a free entrance for the outdoor art walk!

A beautiful place surrounded by woods where you can enjoy the tranquillity of nature while enjoying a panoramic landscape of the beautiful archipelago area. Fantastic place to escape from the city for a day. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with friendly staff. The foods are superb. Make sure to drop by if you are an art lover!
Yuki Kanaya — Google review
This is a great exhibition space that is bit further out but definitely worth it. The building is very well designed with oak wood furniture and big windows that frame the outside view of the forest. The exhibition space was also very nice, not too big just the right size to take in whatever is in view. The cafe and the shop are also really nice. The fact that the space is in the middle of nature adds a lot to the great experience.

Hard to give this place a balanced review with just one overall star rating, so please read further!
To get here you really need your own transport. Car or taxi would be most convenient, but it would be easy enough to get here by bike if you’re fit enough. Parking was plentiful and within expected prices (ca 75kr for 3h). There are several car parks, some closer to the building for ease of access for disabled or elderly. Access to the building from the car parks is easy and map boards are available giving clear directions.
Rating: 4/5
The natural surroundings are beautiful and typical for the region with open woodland of mixed pine & silver birch, with some exposed bedrock. The woodland and boardwalk pathways are well tended and easy walking terrain, even for the elderly. On a sunny day this is a wonderful place to take a general stroll or sit & enjoy the coast views.
Rating: 5/5
The building itself is spacious and well laid out. The cafe & restaurant areas are clean and well maintained. There are plenty of lockers for bags & coats, as well as good toilet facilities.
Architecturally this is a very pleasant space with an interesting juxtaposition of closed and open spaces & light. Access is good & although this visit wasn’t during “high season”, I would say that it wouldn’t feel crowded & stressful even with lots of visitors.
Rating: 5/5
The cafe/restaurant offered what appeared to be a good selection of meals, sandwiches and cakes/pastries including vegetarian options. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
We chose what on the menu sounded like a good healthy lunch - a vegetarian bean chilli. This turned out to be a huge disappointment. It was more like a small portion of tomato & sweetcorn salsa with hardly any beans in it at all. Definitely not worth the money at an almost extortionate 175kr. The side salad available was bland & uninspiring. Bread was scarce - evidently much in demand to make up for the small portion sizes of the meal options - and when it was available was just dull white bread.
Only still water was available as a free option and the coffee (included) was just average.
Prices were too high for what was on offer.
I would hesitate to pay to eat here again, I’d rather bring a picnic and take advantage of the outdoor seating options.
Rating: 1/5
Art & design seemed to be somewhat lacking. For a supposed art centre there was very little to see. Of course exhibitions vary and are usually time limited, so maybe this visit was just bad timing.
Admittedly, seeing art exhibitions wasn’t the main purpose of my visit, I was here as a first time visitor to explore the building and surrounding areas. The outside (free) art installations were good, but not exceptional.
The gallery shop was disappointing.
Rating: 3/5
Overall, would I visit again? Yes, for the general environment & maybe for a specific exhibition. Certainly not for the food though.
Andy G — Google review
The cultural centre with amazing art installations and seaside dining is one of Stockholm’s best ! Not many people are aware of it & mostly art enthusiasts visit the Artepelag. It should be on MUST SEE list of people living in or visiting Stockholm ! Also, the food in the restaurant is brilliant !

A lovely experience ! The buliding architecture and location in the middle of the forest is amazing. I loved the outdoor exhibition, food and quietness. The exhibition space within is quite small though, not worth staying a full day there

I am a novice, not deeply immersed in the world of art, but visiting Artipelag was a great experience. As the name implies, it's an art gallery surrounded by nature. The place is gorgeous, it's worth going there just to explore the surroundings, sit down and enjoy the silence. The only drawback is getting there, it's quite far away from the city and can be challenging if you, as a tourist, rely on public transport.
kurisu — Google review
Way to spend time with your family on nature. Also in the building you can find place to eat. Prices are not low.
Outside the building, you can find road through forest. Almost on all way path made from wood. Beautiful views are everywhere! Parking is at the beginning of path. It’s possible to go with strollers.

Beautiful place where art meets nature. They have a path walk around the water so it was beautiful walk in the forest, with art installations in the nature. I went there for Imagine Monet’s exhibition and it was amazing. You can take public bus from Slussen. The nearest bus stop called “Artipelagstigen” and it stopped right in front of the museum.

Art gallery which has a cafe, restaurant shop and toliets. We visited to see the Imagine Monet exhibition which was fantastic and fully immersive with fantastic visuals and music. The outside of the museum has some impressive sculptures set in the forest area accessible by a wooden boardwalk. A great art gallery set in lovely surroundings.

We did not visit museum but took walk in the area (it is free of charge). There is a quite long path which is available also for people using wheelchair. Path with enjoyable view at nature - forest, water, art.
Place is close to Stockholm where we stayed.
Parking was not free, however very cheap.

Sehr schöner Ausflug in die Schären gemacht.
Accessible by ferry, this restored, 19th-century fort features period furnishings & military relics.
Well worth my money and time ☺.. We used the ferry from Stockholm to Vaxholm ..then got the ferry to the fortress and ensure you do the tower first, you need the energy to get to the top, trust me 😂. Also wear comfy shoes, preferably trainers..back at vaxhom get ice cream and ensure you go to the beach...it is small, not really a beach 😂 for real beach lovers but you can swim and the kids can have fun..

Great place to roam and have a picnic.
It is well maintained and clean.
100kr for round ticket to fortress.
Also have to pay to visit museum inside the fortress.
Bhanu Prasad Merakanapalli — Google review
We were very excited to visit this fortress however it was big disappoinment for us. It is changed into a hotel ( it can be nice to stay over night at this place - but nothing else to do) and except for the tower, where there is a nice view, there is nothing to see. Admission is free. Only the ferry is paid. Definitely not worth a visit for me. Very small town to walk through, you're going to be done in less than 10 - 15 min. If you really plan to visit this place go by public transport - from Stockholm you are here by bus in 34-45min and it costs a few crowns. Cruises are very expensive to get here and the result is not really worth it. Sweden has beautiful nature and it is worth paying for a cruise or other sightseeing tour of smaller islands and surroundings. We would rather skip this island next time

View is amazing from the top of fortress. It's on vaxholm Island and you can reach the fortress via ferry from the vaxholm island.

So we took the ferry from Stockholm to Vaxholm which doesn't come with the usual public transport SL tickets (it's 97 for adults and 64 SEK for student per trip) then we realize that we need to take another boat around 20 meters to the fortress which is another around 100 SEK 🤣🤣
Sith ara — Google review
It's an old fortress that was defending Stockholm from the bad guys. It has a bed and breakfast, cafe museum and a small souvenir shop.
The ferry to the fortress cost 100Skr for a return ticket and then the museum cost the same to enter.
But it was a nice tripp if you are interested in some history and a very nice fortress indeed.

Well preserved castle, fun to roam around with kids and family. Don’t miss ice cream just outside castle where you take ferry.

Really enjoyable day out. The fortress is really well maintained and offers great views over the archipelago. The museum tour was very informative and the staff were friendly throughout.
John Greener — Google review
The Castle was quite impressive. The walk up to the top was not for folks with mobility issues. The architecture was amazing, brick laid spiral staircases, thick castle walls and cannon. Thought about perhaps returning to visit overnight.
The most interesting thing about the adventure was the ferry ride across the channel. Cable driven on the way back from the castle. Guess how the pedestrian only ferry gets over to the castle from the dock? Took me a while to figure it out. The inexpensive ticket included access to the castle.
If you love castles, history, ferries or just plain wander lust, this fun ferry ride is well worth the fare.
Cash and cars can be a problem. It is of course 🇸🇪 Sweden, and Vaxholm tends to be crowded for vehicles during peak tourist season.
I swish you a pleasant visit to this castle.
Cisco — Google review
I visited the fortress with my work colleagues. We had a blast over there. At first we were greatly welcomed with tea, coffee and pastries, followed by loads of team building activities that challenged us in many different ways, leadership, strategy, strength, logic and also music. Later we had a super lunch served by the chefs of the fortress, which I super recommended as well (including veggie and vegan options), the staff were great with us at all the time. We left the place with loads of great and fun memories. Super recommended for both, personal visitors and business activities.

Great historical and well maintained castle.
You have to take a ferry to reach the castle, cost 90kr.
After reaching Castle it's an amazing place.
There are amazing cannons and launchers, some looks from the recent past.
Good time to go in the early afternoon and morning, as in late afternoon, coffee shops are closed.
Castle has some hidden doors which are accessible to the Castle staff, they might allow you incase you request them.
Also around the castle it's a great walk.

Absolutely loved it here. The Vaxholm fortress itself is impressive with a large courtyard and lots of roses (we visited in July). It has a restaurant (with limited fika options during lunchtime) and a nice museum. The entrance fee to the museum was 100kr for adults, sadly there was no student discount. I found the basement level which tells how people used to live in Vaxholm particularly interesting and the stories were told very well with a lot of multimedia experience.
The very short cable ferry trip to reach it was kinda expensive though (100kr for a runaround trip)

Imposing castle on an island, a short ferry hop from the town of Vaxholm. Very well maintained. Variety of cannons through the ages. Lots to explore, or just relax and ponder life.

A lot of fun to run around the island exploring, evening during the cold winter weather. But don't come alone, otherwise you might not be brave enough to go down some of the dark passages on the island. If the passage doors close on you and you are by yourself, there is no one on the island to free you :(

A very nice restaurant serving traditional local dishes using locally grown vegetables. It is a lovely rural setting with shops selling antiques and a museum on the old iron work that was set here.
Recreated Viking village with costumed actors, demonstrations, guided tours & a kid-friendly beach.
This is a really nice place with lots of kind people and a very warm atmosphere. Great for children and families! You can dive into the the way of living in a small viking village. Bake your own little viking bread, create some felt balls, twist a bracelet or learn something about runes - the villagers will show you how. When the horn is blown - be sure to look what's going on because probably there will be some action and you can learn something about viking sagas or ancient music. The highlight is a trip on the lake with a rebuilt viking boat - don't miss this, it's a lot of fun (and a little chaotic maybe).
It's an international atmosphere and you will hear different languages here besides Swedish. The villagers keeping everything alive are volunteers from all over the world. A great place to be during summer - don't miss this.

A good place to learn about the Vikings.
They need descriptions in English since it's hard to hold out our phones during the winter to translate every explanation.

I have been to many Viking villages in Europe and they are all a bit different! The volunteers were very knowledgeable and friendly. If you have kids, this place would be super fun for them as there were many things to do. You can get coffee, tea, sandwiches and pastries in the main hall and enjoy it by the fire.

Wonderfully located right on the water. Genuine feeling and super friendly staff which are actually all volunteers. I was there for the Cultural festival and it was chilled out and relaxed with great music. Even though there might not be an event its still worth a visit because of the authenticity. Kids have space to run around exploring nature. Don't forget to bring swimming gear if the weather is nice since there is a lovely beach right next to the viking village.

Excellent attempt to preserve the Viking era. We were told that they have been running this place since past 22 years successfully. And rightfully so! Upon entering the premises, one can get the feeling of walking around the Viking soil, watching the Vikings live. They have people dressed as the Vikings, adult Vikings, Viking children and so on. They have created the Viking village with convincing landscapes compelling the visitors to imagine the Vikings lifestyle and more. They have invested lot of time and effort to exhibit authenticity worth the admiration. It was worth the drive!

The Åland Maritime Museum is an interactive exhibit showcasing Aland's rich marine history. The museum features preserved boats, including a reproduction ship with a mast, saloon, galley and cabins as the centerpiece. Visitors can explore the docks, steam engines and even a kids' room. The museum also offers a glimpse into pirate life with ships in bottles and sea chests on display.
One of the best maritime museums in the world. From the exhibitions inside to the magnificent sailing ship Pommern outside...and yes you can go onboard.

The ticket price was 15€ for adults.
The place has 3 floors total with one underground.
There are plenty of interesting things to see and discover, including: a real pirate flag, highly detailed ship models and artifacts from the life of sailors
For children there are many interactive expositions to explore with "sea monsters" as a highlight.

Small but really well done exhibition. My favourite was the small rooms made to look like from inside of the sailingboat. Also the curiosities were interesting.

Pros:
-Ticket is good for ship Pommern museum and for the Aland maritime museum where you buy ticket.
-Audio guide in many languages for ship museum
-Audio guide tells you a story, not boaring facts. My husband thoug felt like it is disadvantage of the audio. He was left with unanswered question.
-Nicely maintained and set rooms on the boat, easy to access
-Entertaining for kids as well. Few touch screens keep kids interacting, dancing game for adults/kids, you can try on costume on the boat. In ground museum there is few themed kids rooms with a cool stuff
-Good looking photos can be made on the boat and in ground museum
-Very interesting for all ages expositions in ground museum
Cons:
-None.
We really enjoyed it. I recommend this museum as Must see on Aland island 🇦🇽

Best ship-building museum I have been to. All info is about local ships, their crews and owners and what happened to them. On board the Pommern, you can smell the caulk, understand how the crew lived and you get some small understanding of life at sea in a Baltic winter.

Åland Maritime Museum is a monument to history of Aland as the holder the world's largest fleet of wooden sailing ships. Be sure to visit the four-masted barque named Pommern, built in Glasgow in 1903, which is anchored behind the museum. The interior of the museum is built like a ship's prow cutting into the land. Our cruise ship was docked right next door so very easy to walk over after we had the included cruise tour in morning. Give your self a couple of hours to visit the museum inside and ship outside. When on the ship as price of admission you are provided an audio phone setup to listen to a guided tour of ship. The speakers describe life aboard ship during a fishing cruise.

If you're into ships and anything related, this is the place to visit!
DMINATOR — Google review
Small but really well done exhibition. My favourite was the small rooms made to look like from inside of the sailingboat. Also the curiosities were interesting.
Sakariina Liukkala — Google review

Worth visiting. Take enough time to be there, much to see.

If you have time for only one museum in Åland go to this one. There is both the boat (the upper deck is the main one) and the museum itself. Both are enjoyable and give insights of the activity that is very important on the archipelago.

Nice example of how maritime life was in the past and a well preserved ship. This landmark of Mariehamn is a must see for everybody.
CHAYANAN DINSAKUN — Google review

An awesome slice of maritime history. Lots and lots of interesting exhibits with real items and scaled models. Also tells the history of Åland area seafaring. Well curated and clean place with friendly staff. Highly recommended way to spend couple of hours in Mariehamn.

Interesting maritime museum to learn history and understand the thing they do
Kastelholm Castle, a 14th-century fortress situated on an island surrounded by moats in Aland, Sweden, was renovated from 1982-1989. The castle features imposing keep towers that reach up to 15m high and walls made of thick red granite measuring 3m. It played a significant role as the ruling stronghold of Aland in ancient times, which is evident from the exhibits showcasing its evolution and archaeological finds such as medieval silver coins hoard.
A must visit place in Åland! So much history in it that you feel the walls talking. Will learn few things about the culture in that area throughout the 1400 till recent times.
Nader El-Rabah — Google review
Highly recommend visiting Kastelholm! The self-guided tour with the provided guide book is a must, the layout and information was really well done. Fun to walk around, it’s a well preserved castle with a cool history.

The season was not open, so I saw the castle from outside. Beautiful place with lots of information and lovely walking area with old buildings.
Maria Kastruni — Google review
Brilliantly presented and full of (remarkably grim) history, this is one of the best presented castles I have ever seen. It is a bit older than many of the ones people think of, so the vibe is different. But really cool to see a legit 12th century castle and understand the archaeology involved in bringing its past to life.
Derek Rucker — Google review
Always a great trip with the boat up here! Restaurant and/or a great walk amongst the old buildings. The marina is ok but charging €60 for a longside spot when tje harbour is 20% full is a bit over the top? The overcharging trend is obvious but it means people won't visit.

A wonderful place. You can buy a ticket to go inside the castle. Short walk above the castle is a beautiful open air museum.

Very pleasant and historical place to visit. Worth to see in Åland. There are also headsets to listen the historical story of this castle. Not sure how it is, however the views and sign posts tell enough for travelers. Don't forget to visit the prison and Jan Karlsgården around this place. For hungry people there is also a place to eat very cool food. Local lamb and some salmon soup. Go for it

It is a nice castle/ruin. Nicely renovated to tell the story about the castle.
The guy in the entrance is very friendly. But I think they have a audio guide that we did not get information about. But it works to read on the signs to.

A must for history nerds and general public too. Good presentation of the castles past and different phases of construction. Beautiful milieu surrounds the castle.

This is something no visitor to Aland should miss. It has all the history you need to know to understand how old the culture is here and how rough and tumble it must have been for people living back in the 1300- 1600's.

As a castle, well prepared entry process and voice guided tablet available. Activity "treasure hunting" for kids. I missed more visual examples per viewpoint, mostly just the structure.

Very magnificient if you’re interested in history. Highly recommend the lookout tower a little north, worth all the walk!

Very cool place to visit. Recommending for you guys. Take a basket to have a nice picnic around the bridge, which is close by the old fort. Walk around the fort area and enjoy all kinds of views.
After walking take ice cream at nearby Cafe or nearby kiosk. Enjoy the day and don't forget to charge your battery 🔋 to your cellphone.

This wonderful spot is historically significant and beautiful. The new visitor centre is worth going to, explaining why the spot is so significant - but also giving context to why Mariehamn was built, and why Åland is a demilitarised zone. The walks around are lovely. Worth a visit!

There was a huge naval bombardment of this Russian fort during the Crimean War. Whatever was left was blown up with huge amounts of gunpowder, leaving few clues behind. Some of the structures have been partially reconstructed to give the visitor a sense of the immense scale of this installation. It is set in a beautiful place and is worth a visit! There is good bus service from Mariehamn and there is a cafe nearby for refreshments.

Slightly broken fortress, huge place with a lot of history. Picnic area and swimming possible nearby. There is a kiosk to buy ice cream from
Arto Salminen — Google review
A very interesting and captivating place! It's fascinating to see what plans the Russians had for this area before the Crimean war broke out. The giant fortress wasn't completed when the British and French forces launched their attack in the summer of 1854. The western countries couldn't allow Russia to expand as far west as to the Åland islands.
Today it's possible to explore the ruins of what remains of this imposing project. Several of the big cannons still remain in their strategic locations, aiming at the waters where the Russians expected the enemy to arrive with their warships.
I highly recommend the 4,2 km (~3 miles) hiking trail that runs through the whole area, including Notvikstornet, Djävulsberget and the barracks where the soldiers and workers lived.

Itse kirkko kaunis ja kirkkojen tapaan hieno paikka rauhoittumiseen ja 1400 luvun tyylille uskollisesti oli myös mielen lisäksi miellyttävä kuvata kirkon sisätiloja.

One of the oldest lighthouses in the entire world!
Some info about it:
Kõpu lighthouse (Estonian: Kõpu tuletorn) is one of the best known symbols and tourist sights on the Estonian island of Hiiumaa. It is one of the oldest lighthouses in the world, having been in continuous use since its completion in 1531.
The lighthouse marks the Hiiu Shoal (Estonian: Hiiu madal, Swedish: Neckmansgrund) and warns ships away from the shoreline. Light from Kõpu lighthouse can be used for navigation as far as 26 nautical miles (48 km; 30 mi) away, although in 1997 a radar lighthouse largely took over its role as navigation aid.
Kõpu lighthouse was previously known under its Swedish name, Upper Dagerort lighthouse.

Nicely created viking experience. The area is not large but lots of interesting and well crafted details. We had the dinner in the longhouse and stayed there for the night. Food was excellent and matched the theme very well. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere welcoming.
Samuli Rantala — Google review
Nice viking village with a good "it's okay to touch stuff" attitude. Songs will not be written about the food offered, but the staff is friendly if a bit timid. Not a bad place to spend a few hours while waiting for the boat to Bengtskär.
T H. — Google review
Not that impressive to me. But of course people that are very much into viking stuff might like it. It's easy to park there and it is right next to the departure Gate for the boat tour to Bengtskär. Otherwise you can walk inside the small museum to check some handcrafts out or then they also have tours outside to check some small viking village in the backyard out. E.g how they lived, houses etc. We didn't do the outside tour since it was raining cats and dogs...

Lovely place especially for families. Viking life style was displayed in many ways but also loads to do there: shooting with a bow and arrow, darts, throwing horse shoes, trying viking clothes on, tug-of-war... and there are bunnies, chooks and sheep to see too. Dogs welcome. Basic but tasty and healthy lunch for a good price. We spent easily there 1,5-2 hours. Thank you!
Island lighthouse from 1906, with museum displays on its dramatic role in a major WWII sea battle.

Great place for a day trip with interesting history. A bit too overrated and overpriced in my opinion, I wouldn't spend a night here with the current prices. Saariston loistoreitti cruise (Google it) is a great way to visit this place, you have enough time to explore the island thoroughly and have a coffee and get back to mainland by evening

There's something very special about lighthouses. Especially ones that you can climb to the top and be rewarded for your efforts with a magnificent feeling as the view opens out before you. I purchased a beer at the ticket kiosk at the bottom and enjoyed it at the top in the open air leaving on the railing. It's nice to find places where you can still be trusted to do such things safely and responsibly. This place is worth the drive. Magical experience. There's also a really nice walk along the beach close by too, and a poignant memorial to the MS Estonia ship that sank in the Baltic sea.

This was so cool. Going up takes about 200 steps and the views are stunning. The interesting part is that there is no safety net up there or anything so you get a clear view of the island. Would not recommend to walk up if you have problems with heights, the top is really exposed.
They also have a small cafe with local products. The ticket was 4e.

Wow, what a height and interior architecture, the base floor is exceptionally wide, i am used to a lot narrower light houses. Also liked the photo exhibition on different floors of the light house. And the local lemonade from the entrance kiosk tasted good. I suggest you go there if you like the light houses and lot of steps. I think this metal beast was at least 10 storeys high. If you stand on the viewing platform there is air below your legs.
Muuk Kivi — Google review
One of the many lighthouses. But Tahkuna is special because of the memorial of Estonia ship tragedy. A lot of history for Estonians.
The Mathildedal Ironworks, located on the outskirts of Teijo National Park, boasts a charming and cozy hotel with well-appointed rooms. This informal lodging offers complimentary breakfast and also provides loaner bikes for guests to explore the surrounding area. The village itself exudes a vibrant atmosphere with its red-ochre houses, historic ironworks buildings, unique boutiques, and handcrafted products exclusive to this location.
This space is fantastic for summer weddings. And no one styles it better than Little Wedding Factory.
There's so much variety in the outdoor spaces you can use here, and so much possibility on how the dinning space can be styled. I've recently photographed A&J's wedding here and I'm in love with this place.

The Railway and Communications Museum, located near the central bus station in Haapsalu, is a must-visit attraction for anyone on holiday in the area. This museum showcases a collection of Soviet-era train engines, some of which are well-preserved while others are in various states of disrepair. The sight of these locomotives not only evokes nostalgia but also offers fantastic opportunities for photography enthusiasts. Additionally, the museum's wooden train station stands as a remarkable piece of architectural beauty.
Very interesting museum! I was welcomed today by a very friendly lady, and had a very nice talk with her, even with my bad estonian.. Although we had a bit of a language barrier, I am thankful that she tried her best to make my visit pleasant, and that I receive good informations. If she ever reads this comment, I just want to say, suur tänu! Greetings from Šveits :)
Kiirimaa — Google review
The rail from Tallinn to Haapsalu still ran when I was a kid, but I doubt it stopped at that specific station on arrival.
Which is a pity as its probably the nicest looking one we have in this country.
In any case, the museum itself is fine, but the main thing is the trains outside (mostly climbable, except the cool one you want to climb on. That one they fenced away with some very aesthetic wire fencing) and the building. The boarding area is great for sitting on the edge in the sun and eating Hesburger, which, surprising myself the most here, is one of the finest dining establishments in the city.
But be aware that when the museum closes, the bathroom closes so you have a real treat waiting for you on the urinating side of things after that.
At the time we found ourselves in this predicament, we went looking for the bathroom in the main building to find it closed, but there were a group of homeless looking people inside who gently pointed us towards a portable bathroom outside. While that one doesn't cost money, it does take what it's owed in olfactory suffering. Breathe in deep, relax to conserve oxygen and work fast. You'll get through it.
When you come from Hesburger you could bring some extra chicken nuggets or something. The crows love it and you'll make friends in no time. I believe they actually remember me. Or they just welcome everyone with a loud screeching chorus.
And if you would be so kind, do not press the button on the wall in the waiting area, it's supposed to make train sounds but the speakers are broken so everyone just has to suffer through several minutes of loud, senseless noise.
Markus Lippus — Google review
The communication museum contains an eclectic collection of phones, radios, gramophones and TVs from different eras. The railway museum exhibits photographs and miscellaneous railway paraphernalia. Outside, on the rails of the former train station, there’s a collection of older locomotives and wagons. Sadly, most of them are in a pretty deplorable state (very rusty, partly disintegrated and some vandalised). The entry is 5€ for both museums; the outdoor area as well as the platform and parts of the building can be accessed for free. Be aware that most description texts are only in Estonian.

Great if you're into trains. Some very decent locomotives, but actually the wooden train station itself is a piece of beautiful architecture. The trains look especially beautiful in the evening/sunset light. Pity that they are not covered and therefore are exposed to rain.
Would say one of the highlights of Haapsalu.
Igors Kasjanovs — Google review
This place is one of the biggest highlights of Haapsalu. There are many soviet era train engines, both junk and semi-conserved one, which look beautiful as well as remind of the years gone by. If you are into photography, you can get some great shots here. The Läänemaa tervesitee also brings one here when coming by bike.

This is an fantastic historic building that served as the main railway station in Haapsalu.
Construction started in May 1904 of the main wooden building, with limited train service starting in December 1904.
The railway station has several buildings: the passenger terminal, a train control pavilion, a terrace with roof and a covered platform with a total length of 216 metres.
It was designed by architect Karl Verheim and engineer V. Vestfalen, with final construction taking place during 1905–1907.
Today is serves as a train and communication museum.
Trains are not in the best condition.

Haapsalu Castle is a partially ruined medieval bishop's castle that offers a variety of attractions, including a museum, church, playground, and viewing platform. Despite its turbulent past, the castle is well-preserved and features an interactive museum with old clocks and medieval armors. Visitors can enjoy picturesque views from the tower and relax at the beautiful terrace cafe. The castle provides an interesting history lesson with examples both inside and outside the museum.
Beautiful place and feels very sacred here to visit the castle! Even in winter, everything is frozen, ice everywhere and the view from the little tower outside was def worth it to climb.

I really wanted to give a five star review here but to be honest I was disappointed. I will try and do a pros and cons outline:
Pros
*Nice castle, not the grandest but still pretty impressive.
*Superb renovation work, well laid out (superb) and professional set up.
*Great amenities-toilets, cafe, wheelchair friendly, shop, parking, nearby beautiful town.
*Cannot comment regarding audio language but English signage is great.
Cons
*The signage is on reflective glass backing onto stone. With all the other good work done on the renovation they must have put a muppet in charge of this decision. Most of the signs are hard to read 🤦.
*The exhibits are okay…’but’ they are simply not many of them.
I would have given 4* if you got rid of the two cons. In my castle world a 5* rating would be world class. 3* here is a good result.
*Cost. €12 for adults is expensive.

Raseborg Castle Ruins
Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Fortified, 14th-century castle ruins, originally surrounded by water, but now landlocked.
Beautiful castle ruins. The road that leads to the castle is very smooth and the scenery is breathtaking. Inside the castle it’s cool to see the rocks and the rooms, but there was not much. Adult entrance fee is 7 euros.

A bit smallish and ruined, but there are decent platforms and some stairs built as well. This is definitely not for someone with movability problems though. It is also much better to visit in the summer.

Wonderful picnic spot for a summer day. Beautiful ruins in the middle of nature. It's only around 1 hour drive from Helsinki and also on the way to Hanko so it's also a nice place for stopover. Open only during summer do it's better to check their website before planning the trip.

The place was so lovely and very interesting history.

Ruins are surrounded by the beautiful Finnish forest. We haven't entered the castle because it seemed too expensive to just have a look inside the ruins, but path leading to museum (600m) is lovely. Also the place itself is very peaceful is bright.

Beautiful castle to visit, the grass before the castle is a great place to picnic. Although the castle is not big, it is very pleasing to walk inside and feel this historic building. Not many tourists, no queue at all.
Free entry with Museokortti, payment with smartum and Epassi is accepted.
Note that the car parking is at different location, Hästövägen 2, 10710 Raseborg. Use this address or “Roseborg Castle Ruins Car Park” to navigate if you go by car, otherwise Google Map may lead you to wrong route.

Very Nice & Beautiful Castle Ruin to visit in Southern Finland. You need to buy Tickets to enter to the castle from the ticket office. There is a cafe nearby as well. Very good WC facilities. Have to park the car in parking area and walk down little bit to get to the castle.
DON'T FOLLOW THE GOOGLE NAVIGATION. It directs us to a wrong place which you can not get the access by a car through a private land property. Just follow the direction signs on the road to get to the correct place.

A nice detour on the way to Hanko. The castle ruins sit impressively on a single rock.
Worth a visit for a picnic break, or coffee, or ice-cream.

A very unusual small castle, located on a huge stone. The fortress gives the impression of a marine structure, and this impression turns out to be correct. 800 years ago there was a sea in this place, and the fortress was located on land, but was surrounded by water. It is well preserved, but the interior decoration is almost completely missing. The ticket costs 8 euros, there is information in English and Russian. A full tour of the fortress takes a maximum of 30-40 minutes.

Really beautiful medieval castle ruins full with history over hundreds of years.

Great medieval castle. Lots of information on signs in English and Russian. It is closed for the winter so you cannot go inside the castle now but it was nice to walk around and read about the castle. There is a trail you can walk through the fields and forest and cross the river to visit a museum. We took our dog and he had a blast walking everywhere. The cafe was closed for the winter so we cannot comment on that. We will definitely go back to visit in the summer. We spent about 2 hours there today even in the rain. Very gorgeous area.

Beautiful ruins. You can see the castle without paying the entrance fee. There's a short walk from the parking place (about 500 meters to the reception where the sell the tickets). The parking place is really small, though.
There'a a cafe close by too. The actual ruins are about 500 meters from the reception building.
Just a ruin but what a ruin. You can climb stairs, enjoy views, hide in cellars, learn a lot about history. Very nice shop.

Visiting it was free until they made it paid under pretext of "restauration" while actually mostly adding souvenir shops and more other tourist attraction. Greed! Avoid those m*********s, dont visit it, you are just used!
And oh yea, i liked it when i visited it when was child, and young and last time some 7-8 years ago. But now some greedy /(&%/& decided to make money out of it.

If old ruins are not your thing, then don't go, because you'll see nothing else. It was fairly interesting to me.
This monastery belonged to Cisterian monks, who were very austere. Don't expect any art. They had places to eat, sleep, pray and work, and that's what you'll see.

Great access to different floors and rooms. Well preserved. Worth a visit.

Very large, totally free, open (zero security) historic site to wander around. Includes a 5-story tower with spiral staircase to climb. There are a reasonable number of signs in 4 languages (English, Russian, German, and French, I believe) explaining the site's history. Huge, and full of interesting rooms to explore. I'm an impatient traveler who walks fast, and it took me 45 minutes to wander the site. Not remotely wheelchair friendly. Lots of parking. Food and services available at the hotel 100 meters away. One of the larger/more interesting castles I toured in the Baltic region, free, and open 24/7 (there's no one around to "close" it).

▶️ Padise Monastery is the oldest (from 13th century) and and in my opinion the most prominent architectural monument in medieval Harju County.
💥 During the Livonian War, the monastery was used as a fortress.
In 1622, the then ruler of Estonia donated the monastery to King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden and the land belonging to it to the cathedral Thomas Ramm of Riga, who moved with his family to Padis.
The monastery church was rebuilt into a residential building. The Ramm family lived in the monastery until 1766, when it caught fire in a thunderstorm.
The monastery was never restored, but the construction of a new manor house was started next to the monastery.
Today it's a really nice museum worth a visit 👍

Nice beautiful old place. Good parking, open WC, restaurant and a lodging.

This is a fascinating place. Now privately owned, this former prison/quarry is now a brilliant venue for rather odd days out.
We visited in November, so bought a ticket online and then called the number on the gate when we arrived. They then open the gate remotely. In the summer the gate has staff on it who will check tickets etc.
There’s now about 20/25 motorhome spaces that can be rented here in the season with electric hookup, water, toilets and other services. €25 per night in 2023.
The quarry buildings are submerged in the crystal clear water and there’s a “beach” made from what has eroded from the huge waste heap that towers over the site, with it’s steep, eroded gullies.
The prison is next door and needs a separate ticket.
It’s the kind of place that wouldn’t exist in many other countries, but it’s a great place to go and experience.

Nice place to swim and explore around. Not far from Tallinn, it's not that expensive to visit. There's toilets, bar, remember there being inflatable course on water, I believe you can rent kayak. I visited in summer.

Visited in Winter (December). Completely covered in snow. Staff were able to postpone my purchase of tickets with no problem after I mis followed purchase instructions. They respond to emails immediately.
In winter, the place is extremely abandoned. There are no guides or signs to explain anything. You're basically given unrestricted access to this abandoned area. Not what we expected, but interesting nonetheless.

Pretty impressive as experience!
I liked the audio guided tour.
One of the places that is hard to believe it was in use till recently (2013).
It's pretty cool to be able to visit most of the buildings and see how the convicted used to live in there!
I'd recommend to visit the place before someone decides to close it...

Went there to see the Red Bull Slack Warrior. Didn't go in the water but went climbing and had fun. Didn't mind the entrance fee. Definitely want to go back and take my kids paddling. Cool scenery and kid-friendly

A very interesting destination less than an hour's drive from Tallinn.
You should familiarize yourself with the interesting history of the place in advance. At least I myself never found any brochure or anything else that would have told about the history.
The water of the lake is incredibly clear and you can easily get to know it by renting a boat or a standup paddleboard. The place is also a diver's paradise.
The price level is affordable, so it is well suited as a low-budget travel destination for the whole family.
The service was good and the employees in the area were friendly and cheerful. Several of them were at work on the first day and it caused some small problems and they were solved just fine in the end.
If I could give a little criticism about the lack of signs. There were no opening hours at the gate and there was a bit of conflicting information on the internet.

Cool place for a visit, went out of season it was still frozen but definitely worth checking out, climbing up for a view point is steep and skippy and there are quite a few dangerous areas so beware with small children
Matthew Clarkson — Google review
This place is very cool but not worth €5 per person. It was really interesting to see, but seriously not worth the money. We did go in winter and it might be marginally better in summer. It was extremely muddy when we went. The view from the top was nice. I wish I would have come when it was free.

Very beautiful place! In my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in Estonia. You can climb up the mountain to see a gorgeous view of the surroundings. You can also swim in the clear lake, or you can also dive into underwater prison (which I haven't tried yet). I recommend this place to everyone, especially for photographers, because there's so much to see!

Quite unique place with different attractions like SUP boards. There are changing rooms, toilets, small cafe and enough parking lots. However be ready there are no shadow to hide from the sun. The entrance is 5eur if you without car. You can pay by Apple Pay or a card.
Mikhail Tokarev — Google review
Entry into the quarry was 5 euro per adult. Activities are additional to this, we paid 20 euro for a paddleboat for an hour.
Cool setting, also offers an inflatable water park, SUPs, scuba diving. Cafe on site, with toilets and changing rooms.

Visited this place on the way to Pärnu. The ticket is €5 and can be purchased at the gate. Ample parking is available. There is an adventure centre where you can do kayaking, paddle boarding, disc golf etc. There’s also a cafe serving food and drinks.
Isuru Sam — Google review
Beautiful and action-packed place with semi-expensive prices, still worth visiting. Activities: swimming, paddle boats (20€/h), climbing to the hill, sup boards, wibit aqua track etc.

Please do visit this beautiful waterfall, surrounded by huge park and lush green fields👌❤️. Perfect place for a relaxing getaway from city hustle and bustle!
Nidhi Sharma — Google review
A magnificent waterfall, currently filled with water from melting winter snow, greets visitors. A hanging bridge provides passage to the gorgeous park and 19th-century castle situated nearby. Multiple picturesque grounds are perfectly built and maintained along the banks of the river and waterfall. Additionally, there is a small hydroelectric station, historically a mill, which was powered by a channel from the river.

Very greenish and fresh waterfall. Wide and with easy access. Car park is just 50-100m and is free of charge. Can walk basically on top and on the bottom. No tickets or anything else. A pure joy.

Beautiful place to visit whether in summer or in winter. Free admission and trails around the area. Small restaurant open in summer. Free parking.

This is a great place to come chill from the city and have a decent walk once in a while. The sea is nearby and in fact, most forest trails lead to the sea.
The waterfall is pleasant, but more of a one-and-done thing to see. The park is large and well maintained. Small shop nearby for eg. ice cream or drinks

Beauty of Tallinn.
Must-see place at any time of the year.
Great stop to propose :))))

We love the different seasons in this park. Spring with lots of water and blooming nature, summer with green fields and cooling mist from waterfall, autumn colors and spectacular views, winter clear air and always changing partly frozen river. Enjoy the walk and views, take a family to the picnic and explore different parts and landscapes.
