Positioned atop a hill, this castle is part of a trio built for defense against Arab invasions. While not as well-preserved as its counterparts, it offers an intriguing exploration opportunity. Situated at 950m above sea level, the castle provides stunning views of the bay and features hallways and stone windows characteristic of 11th-century Byzantine architecture.
Wonderful climbing route. You can see the ruins of Buffavento Castle with panoramic Beşparmak Mountains. You have to make yourself ready to climb more then 100 steps. It is a tiering experience but definitely worth it.

Unbelievable crusader castle, hike up much harder than Hilarion and path in need of maintenance. Handrail missing in several locations so not ideal for little ones!
Charlie Smith — Google review
It's a great walking trail. Great view from the top. Don't go mid-day during summer. There is no shop in a 10km, make sure to bring water. My 6 years old kid managed to climb it.
aminreza iranmanesh — Google review
Nice view from top, long climb though but worth it. Note that there are many stairs so if you have knee problems be aware of steep stairs. Clean and pleasant natural environment good for a sip of beverage if you bring along.
Harun ?akir Oral — Google review
Although the road to this castle is dangerous, It's worth visiting. You need to climb around the mountain for about an hour to reach the castle. I think It has the highest altitude in the Cyprus because you see the greek and turkish sides from this castle. The environment was excellent 👌
Mr. MR — Google review
Amazing spot to view Cyprus in 360. Need to make 5-6 thousand steps and 30 minutes to reach the castle almost 250 meters above the car park but it's definitely worth it.
Emrah C — Google review
Amazing 360 view of Cyprus, on a good day, you can see a huge part of the island!
Incredible sunsets and sunrises and a cool castle.
Be aware that the path to get up to the castle, starting from the parking, can take about 30 minutes.
It may vary on how fast you walk.
There is a nice stone path to go up, no barriers, do not look down if you do not like that… enjoy
Fabio Henri Balzio — Google review
This place is high up so get your waking shoes on. I like that it isn't taken over by tourist features... Yet.
The view from the top is incredible and at some points you are right in the clouds.
Paul Briscoe — Google review
It’s beautiful place, and we have to visit it one time in your life, you can see the sea view from the palace.
I don’t advice this journey for elder people or children.
It’s little dangerous, long and high stairs.
And it could be better if taking car of it.
ABDULLAH QADRI — Google review
The view is amazing, it’s worth for the 5200 steps my watch marked from the parking but the trail is not in great condition, I would prefer to pay a ticket but to have more security with the handrails. The worst thing was the road from the highway to the parking and viceverse. There are sections with no place to park and let pass the car from the other side… a nightmare
Maria Victoria Baraghian — Google review
So worth climbing, the views are stunning across the whole island, it takes 30 mins to get to the top from the last car park. You can choose to do a longer hike (10km) as well through the wilderness. For more information regarding trails pick up “walks in North Cyprus” book. We bought it for 5euro in the city centre in the “tower” of Kyrenia. Ask in the info point.
Jarek Karpik — Google review
Hell of a walk especially the last 60m. Well worth the trek to see the views which await. Absolutely stunning and really happy we chose to visit on a mild March day.

If you're a history buff or an adventurer seeking breathtaking views, Buffavento Castle is an absolute must-visit destination in Northern Cyprus!
Perched atop the Kyrenia mountain range, this medieval fortress offers an enchanting journey through time. As you ascend the winding path to the castle, you'll be captivated by its ancient walls and rugged beauty. The hike is invigorating and rewards you with awe-inspiring panoramic views that stretch all the way to the shimmering Mediterranean Sea.
Stepping into Buffavento Castle is like stepping into history. Imagine standing where Byzantine soldiers once stood, defending against invaders and gazing out at a changing world. The castle's name, which translates to "defier of the winds," adds a touch of mystery, reminding us of the challenges faced by those who built and defended this impressive stronghold.
History aficionados will delight in exploring the remnants of this once-mighty fortress. Towering walls, ancient chambers, and remnants of a bygone era will transport you back in time. The castle's role in medieval conflicts, its connections to various empires, and its vantage point for monitoring the region's activities all contribute to its rich historical tapestry.
Don't forget your camera! The panoramic views from Buffavento Castle are postcard-worthy. Capture the sweeping landscapes and rugged terrain that surround you, as well as the fascinating architectural details that have withstood the test of time.
Please note that reaching the castle involves a moderately challenging hike or drive up the mountain. But trust me, the journey is worth every step. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water, especially during warmer months.
In summary, Buffavento Castle is a gem that lets you walk in the footsteps of history while immersing yourself in breathtaking natural beauty. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking an unforgettable adventure, this castle will leave an indelible mark on your heart and memory.
Kyrenia Harbour is the most popular spot in the town for tourists. It's a crescent-shaped port with narrow streets and charming old wooden ships and yachts in its harbour. There are also cafes and restaurants on the waterfront, and a beautiful promenade that leads down to the harbour.
This might be the prettiest place in all of Cyprus.
A place where you expect Jack Sparrow to walk by ...
Castle is impressive.
Fresh fish in the harbor was very good.
I will be back for sure.
My wife spent hours in the gold shops :-)

Beautiful harbour, lots of cafe, bars, restaurant s, open air and indoors. Very reasonable prices, and I have always found to be good food. Effes is the local beer and is tasty and refreshing. Most places have free wifi. Decent choice of boat trips for a special day out. Inflation has taken a bite out of the cheapness, a little more expensive since 2022, but still a great place to chill.

Pros: The experience of walking around the port is very enjoyable and pleasant. There're many boats, yachts with distinctive designs. Many quality seafood restaurants are available. There're many bazaars to buy souvenirs. Overall rating fir the experience is 09/10.
Cons: There's nothing can complain about it.

Great place to walk. Restaurants are on the pricey side since it's the touristic hotspot of the city. You can find boat trips with different options and prices. Welcome to Kyrenia harbor.

Kyrenia harbour is a lovely place to visit. Lots of hotels around to stay in. Lots of ships to choose from to take you around the harbour. The crewmen normally allow 40 people on a ship for 50tl each, which is much cheaper to do. There's also a castle there to explore, which takes 20tl for students and 50tl each for tourists. There are lots of things to do here, you can never get tired of this place.

kyrenia Harbour is a hidden gem that shouldn't be missed. The moment you step foot in this picturesque harbor, you'll be captivated by its timeless beauty. The charming cobblestone streets, colorful fishing boats, and stunning backdrop of the Kyrenia Mountains create a truly magical atmosphere.
The harbor is lined with a plethora of delightful restaurants, cafes, and shops. Whether you're craving fresh seafood, local delicacies, or international cuisine, there is something to satisfy every palate. Enjoy a leisurely meal while basking in the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea.
One of the highlights of Girne Harbor is the majestic Kyrenia Castle, which stands proudly at one end of the harbor. This ancient fortress offers a glimpse into the rich history of the region and provides panoramic views of the surrounding area. Exploring the castle's halls, towers, and dungeons is like stepping back in time.
Strolling along the harbor's promenade is a delightful experience. You can watch the sunset paint the sky with warm hues, listen to the soothing sounds of the waves, and browse through the various souvenir shops. You'll also find boat trips available, allowing you to venture out to sea and see the coastline from a different perspect

So much to do and see in this little paradise on the Mediterranean Sea.
We visited during the early evening hours as everybody was out and about, enjoying dinner by the water. The boats are quite impressive and the sunset views are even more stunning.
This is a changeup from Cyprus obviously. Being under Turkish rule creates a different cultural flavor which is fascinating to observe, being a short car ride from the border.
Ryan Biddulph (Blogging From Paradise) — Google review
Crowded, but historic and unique. I would not recommend sitting at the restaurants. Bring your food and drinks instead and you will have a good time.
Kyrenia Castle is a large and imposing fortress on the seafront in Kyrenia, Cyprus. It also has a shipwreck museum inside, which contains exhibits about Cyprus' maritime history. The view from the top of the castle is incredible, and it is one of the best values in Cyprus for tourists.
Very nice castle and definitely worth visiting! It has many things to enjoy - the sea, the view, the museum, the architecture, and the history of course. You can walk around the castle once first then enter it. Entrance fee is not too expensive, especially when you paying in Lira instead of Euro. Not very crowded during weekdays. Oh be careful during windy/rainy days though, as it could be kinda dangerous to walk on the top of the castle during such weather. Overall can recommend!

Huge, imposing castle on the seafront which also has a shipwreck museum inside. As well as the exhibits to see you can climb up and walk along the walls to the sound of waves hitting the rocks below.

The view from the top of the castle is a-maz-ing! Just visit asap this excellent historical place.
Deniz Ozmenci — Google review
This is a great historical attraction however it is very unsafe! Many of the displays have been removed and are empty spaces. The railing is missing in many parts of the wall and there are some walking areas that seem quite flimsy, such as soldered metal grates and parts that have been roofed over. A little investment and pride in this castle would make a big difference.
Kelly Mem Craig-Kapusuzoglu — Google review
It was an incredible place,I enjoyed in every corner of the castle everything was so wonderful. I'm excited for my trip to this place again.
Alfawwaz Altabatibi — Google review
Girne Castle, also known as Kyrenia Castle, presents itself as a fairly typical castle structure, albeit with a notable feature: its size. While it may not boast the grandiosity of some renowned European castles, Girne Castle compensates with its expansive layout, making it larger than the average fortress of its kind. Additionally, the castle's walls are noticeably thicker, hinting at a robust defense system that would have been crucial during its heyday. Despite lacking the ornate embellishments of more famous castles, Girne Castle's imposing presence and sturdy construction serve as a testament to its historical significance and strategic importance in safeguarding the region. Visitors can explore its ramparts, towers, and inner chambers, gaining insights into the castle's role in the turbulent history of Cyprus. Overall, while Girne Castle may not stand out dramatically in the realm of castle architecture, its sheer size and formidable walls contribute to its allure and make it a worthwhile stop for history enthusiasts and curious travelers alike.
PHILIPS DIBIX — Google review
The best value in Cyprus, but it is a bit lacking in terms of quality and and number of exhibits.

Staying at the Acapulco Hotel nearby we took the opportunity to explore nearby. There is parking very close to the castle for a small fee (€1 per hour) and the castle is walkable. The castle is cheap to enter and very well kept. The displays and signage are informative and the access to the roof affords excellent views out to sea and the rest of the town. Well worth the visit.
Ryan Whitlock — Google review
7th century Byzantine castle, built to fend off Arabs, never taken but surrendered to the Ottomans in 1570, expanded in the Lusignan era, and taken present form under Venetians in the 16th century. British used it as a prison/police academy. Museum, featuring a wrecked 4th century Greek merchant ship, is included in the ticket. Impressive structure, with great views of Girne/Kyrenia and especially of limani/old port, and a little garden café at its centre.
Olivera L — Google review
Impressive fortifications though in need of a tidy up and some sympathetic restoration. The only leaflet available was in German, maybe we were a bit early in the season. This made identify the use of some areas difficult. Well worth a visit, plus there are small presentations about an ancient boat recovered just of the harbour including the Hull structure, very interesting.
The Shipwreck Museum in Kyrenia Castle is packed with fascinating artifacts from the ancient world. Highlights include a 2,400-year-old Greek trading vessel and its cargo.
Small Museum packed with fascinating artifacts...
The Shipwreck Museum houses the remains and cargo of what was once the oldest shipwreck ever discovered and raised. At almost 2,400 years old, the Ancient Greek trading vessel and its cargo provide a rare insight into life during the time of Alexander the Great.
Kyrenia Castle alone is more than worth a visit, so if you're here, be sure to take an hour to tour this little museum,
Sasch Mayer — Google review
The artifacts themselves are very interesting including amphoris and other tools from the shipwreck as well as the remains of the ship. The exhibition itself is very badly kept. Some of the wax statues are spoiled by bird droppings and its been months if not more since the whole museum was last busted. A replica of the shipwreck exhibited here can be found in the Athalassa Museum in Agia Napa in the Southern Part of the island.
aaron gatt — Google review
Very impressive shipwreck and museum with atmosphere, souvenirs shop(not very much to buy) and buffet are available.
Dominik Kotlar — Google review
The museum is not big, but visiting it might have some educational value for kids and adolescents. There are the remnants of the ship and a few amphoras. Frankly speaking, I deem that there is nothing special to stay inside for more than 15 minutes.
Alexander Potapov — Google review
The museum is inside the kyrenia kalesi. They have original items that the wrecked ship carried about 2300 years ago. They also house the ships wooden hull but the entrance to see this is small and get a bit crowded as they have one door for entry and exit.
Cindy Mbae — Google review
The Kyrenia Shipwreck stands as a truly remarkable artifact of the ancient world, offering a profound glimpse into the historical maritime trade that flourished between Cyprus and Greece. This ancient Greek shipwreck, among the oldest in the world, is a treasure that embodies the enduring connection and exchange of goods between these two regions.
However, it is with a heavy heart that one must acknowledge the unfortunate condition in which this invaluable piece of history currently resides. Housed within the confines of a castle, the shipwreck has suffered from inadequate care and maintenance. The neglect it has endured since the tragic events of 1974, coupled with evident signs of unprofessional handling, is deeply concerning.
As a globally significant heritage artefact, the Kyrenia Shipwreck deserves nothing less than the utmost care and attention from experts in the field. It is imperative that this historical treasure be moved to a specially designed facility equipped with the ideal environmental conditions and preservation techniques before further deterioration occurs.
Regrettably, the under construction of the impressive Nicosia New Museum will possess the necessary resources and capabilities to provide a suitable home for the Kyrenia Shipwreck. Yet, the issue of territorial disputes appears to hinder progress, as the Turkish Authorities reluctance to cooperate jeopardizes the preservation of this invaluable piece of history.
In summary, the Kyrenia Shipwreck deserves an unreserved 5-star rating for its historical significance and the profound insights it offers into ancient trade. However, the lamentable condition in which it currently exists warrants only 2 stars, highlighting the urgent need for professional care and a suitable, purpose-built environment for its preservation. It is my hope that international cooperation and consensus will prevail, ensuring that this extraordinary artefact receives the attention and care it so rightfully merits.

Die Saint Barnabas Monastery is one of the most impressive monuments I have ever seen. There i saw in a museum facilities from the Bronze Age. Near by the monastery Barnabas an old disciple of Paul is buried after he become a martyr for the young community of Christians in Cyprus and Antiochia. The entry for the Monastery include visiting of the monastery was 15 TL = 2 € for students.
Tobias Fank — Google review
The place is interesting but the upkeep is a disaster, the way they changed a church into something ridiculous and monks' cells into 'a museum' only shows the detachment of locals from Christianity altogether. It is only used for extracting money from the tourists. Not even mentioning the locals trying to sell products that are definitely not local or made by them. It is really a shame...

The monastary is pituresque and there are some wallpaintings and icons in there. The grave of the saint is nearby.

A really interesting place for a small fee of 50l to see Saint Barnabas tomb area, the church and museum of archaeological artefacts. Their is car parking, cafe and toilets. The chapel built over where his remains were found is quite petite and you can walk down to his resting place before he was moved. The church has plenty of colourful artwork and mural depicting how his tomb was found. The museum had many interesting and unusual artefacts and information. can’t get enough of the place !
Magical and marvelous views.

The road to Kantara castle is direct and easy to access. I visited off season so no staff were on site.
There are toilets but they were not maintained off season and were really unpleasant. Small picnic area and car parking space for up to ten cars. There is a larger car park about 200 metres down the hill.
Good footwear is an must although the climb is moderate and there are plenty of places to stop, rest and take in the views.
Once in the ruins the views are incredible and the rooms have interesting features.
Unfortunately there is lots of litter and no information boards about the site.

These castle ruins had a small entrance fee to walk up. Make sure you have sturdy footwear as lots of uneven surfaces and steps to climb. Their was a small parking area and toilets at the bottom. As you walked up their are lots of areas to explore and to enter. Some were quite intact and some in ruins. At the very top was lovely views over the land and coast. Well worth the visit. Plenty of places like walls and rocks to sit and rest on the way. A lot of places have no barriers

An amazing castle with outstanding view! Its about 25-30 minutes drive from highway with narrow lanes on the way.
Once you reach there, you’ll be amazed with the view. The location allowed its builders to monitor a wide range of seashore for protection

A really beautiful place in the north-east of the island. On a clear day, there is a fantastic view of the entrance to the Karpas Peninsula to the east and the mountainous landscape of Turkey's south coast can be seen to the north.
The castle itself is impressive because of its history, structure and age.
Unfortunately, the maintenance and upkeep of this cultural monument leaves much to be desired.
The toilets were very dirty and therefore not usable.
Better to use the facilities at the good Kantara Bar&Restaurant further down the road.

Breathtaking views scenery both outside and inside must see. Entry fee as of today was 19TL definitely with it. I recommend once inside cave go all the way down first then slowly come back up enjoying cave views as straight up can be tiring. Great lake view at bottom.

These caves are a must visit if you are anywhere near. They are massive and truly one off earth natural wonders. There are so many large stalactites and stalactites and columns and there is lighting there to show them off. It's a long way down but there is a clear water lake at the very bottom. There is a man made metal stairs to the very bottom and it's 320 steps back up to the cave entrance. It's very warm in the caves. Big free car park, tarmac road to get there. There is a coffee restaurant and toilets and the ticket price is about 24 lira.

An amazing view opens up before your eyes - green trees, blue waters and high rocks. The colors are stunning, the height - impressive.
Going into the cave you feel a sudden heat wave, the lights are dim and the oxygen is low. There are quite many stairs, but it's worth it once you see the astonishing beauty of the cave structures. There is a crystal-like shining layer over the rocks.
At the bottom you see a crystal clear lake witb rocks reflecting from its calm waters.
It's the most beautiful cave I've ever see! ❤️🇹🇷🗻

This is the most beautiful cave I have seen so far. The entrance is located on the wall overlooking the sea and you have to go down the stairs in order to reach it. Once inside, the number and size of stalactites will take your breath away. You just have to go deeper and deeper, across open areas and small path until you reach the amazing lake that lies at the bottom of it. If you are driving around Southern Turkey, don't miss the opportunity to visit this cave! The entrance fee was less than 2€.

This cave is amazingly beautiful and the management has done a very good job of making it accessible. The entire length of the attraction, from the top of the hill to the bottom of the cave is paved with metal walkways with rails and great traction. Myself and many of the other guests were fat and out of shape but it is still easy to get to the bottom and back to the top again if you take a slow pace. It is very hot and very humid inside the cave so you will get very very sweaty. I recommend bringing a second shirt you can change into before leaving.

A longer drive from Mersin than Heaven & Hell caves but so much better! If you go early you can enjoy the cave all to yourself (or almost). Definitely worth the trip!

Super cool seaside cave 🌊🦇🤩
This cave is pretty remarkable because it's a stones throw away from the Mediterranean Sea but as you go down it's winding corridors you actually stumble onto a small underground freshwater lake that's crystal clear turquoise blue 💙🔵💙
I honestly don't think I have seen a cave quite like this one as far as sheer size of the chambers of the cave as well as the actual size of the structures inside of the cave goes 🤯
Going down the rusty staircase of death which brings you from the cliffside down by the ocean into the mouth of the cave You get some pretty great views of the coastline and a phenomenal little sunset viewpoint 👌👌👌
I really enjoyed climbing around this big bad girl and the giant lagoon in the bottom of this cavern was the icing on the cake 💝🌠😍

Beautiful limestone formations though with lots of stairs - 568 steps going in and then you start back. That does not count the ramp leading to the stairs. The fee was very reasonable. The blue pool at the bottom is beautiful and clear!
Beach could be nice but not looked after properly, very dirty and lots of rubbish on beach

Clean, neat, beautiful beach
Fine sands and a beautiful shiny gulf is all it takes to have the best time when you go to the sea for a swim.
Not so many facilities near by though, so better to have your own vehicle with you if you need to buy something.

Narlıkuyu is a neighbourhood in the municipality and district of Silifke, Mersin Province, Turkey. Its population is 2,476. Before the 2013 reorganisation, it was a town. Wikipedia.
The Heaven and Hell caves, located near Narlikuyu in Greece, are a pair of subterranean caves with great mythological significance. The sinkholes were formed by a subterranean river and have been featured in many Greek legends. The area also features a modern underground chapel. Visitors can enter the cavern called Heaven through an elevator or by walking down steep paths. However, the lighting inside is poor after a certain point. There is also a beautiful temple before entering the cave.
Breathtaking caves. A lot of walking but they placed an elevator to get back up from the cave of heaven. Worth going all the way down after the sanctuary of verging Mary all the way inside the cave. Wear good shoes.

This was an interesting spot as you have to deep caverns or caves. Oner is called heaven which you can walk into or take an elevator. You can walk in a ways but the lightning gets poor. There is a temple before entering that is beautiful. the cavern is hell which has a platform that you can stand on and gaze into hell. Worth the visit, ticket price is 45 TL

Interesting place, it was very organized, as it is the case with places and sites managed by the ministry of tourism. You may buy your tickets right away, use your museum card, Mediterranean museum card, or charge your card at the door. You may buy a museum card here if this is your first site and you are planning to visit other sites in the coming days, you will save a considerable amount of money.
The place itself is basically two ancient natural holes or pit forming a huge cliff in the mountain. You can observe one of them from the glass terrace and walk the stairs down to the other where you will find a cave with old Roman church.
Consider visiting in a cool weather day, not sunny days.
Not a funny place for children, you will end up carrying them on the stairs :D.

Make sure you're up for the challenge of climbing your way back up from the cave, there's an elevator to take you to the very top but only after you break a sweat from the cave to the elevator. Other than that the entrance fee is 45 liras however it might be cheaper to get the yearly pass.

Local staff are kind and helpful, appreciate them a lot.
The building itself constructed in vandalic style towards Zeus temple, road and fence builded through ancient wall, some old curved blocks are used as road barriers.

One of the attractions around. Must visit. They have improved the location a lot. There is a platform with glass floor, which has become an attraction around the globe.
You can visit the cave. Unfortunately, you need to take the stairs down and only with elevator up. So it's tough for buggies. There are exceptions for elderly people etc.
The cave is very cool and there is an old church down.
Overall a must visit place and a recommendation.

Beautiful place, definitely to visit. But put a shoe on because going to heaven cave is long and tiring. Specially the way back. I advise u to be careful because of the slippy road after virgin Mary church. Hell concave is interesting to see
Rami E.R — Google review
100% must see. Please make sure you visit this place only if you are wearing a great pair of shoes, as the size of the stairs are really vary. We have visited this place when it was really hot, but it absolutely worth it. The way to hell was obviously super easy, and the way to heaven was a bit hard, but as they covered the rocks with thick net, slips, trips and falls was prevented. Don’t miss it, even though it can be tough, you should give it a try.

Price 290TL for tourists.
Two spectacular sink holes of enormous dimensions. Well displayed with direct access. Hells cave has a glass viewing platform built directly above it. A walk down 455 steps takes you into the depths of heavens cave.
Liudmyla Petrenko — Google review
Was ok to see hell side had glass walking platform. Heaven side walk down can be slippery on rocks. Once in middle these is ancient building then can go further down to a cave. These is lift back up from half way mark which is great as walk back up would have been very challenging. If you can only pick one attractive between this gillindre cave which is 1 hour apart. Gillindre cave is better one to choose.
Ayse Oz — Google review
Mind blowing place to visit. There are two caves that symbolize the paradise and the inferno. Interesting fact: the Inferno cave is located much higher than the Paradise one. The rationale behind it is that you can’t get out of Inferno and you can get out of the Paradise.
There is an elevator that takes you up from the lower cave.
You can take your children here.
Nikita G. — Google review
The tickets were 75TL per person. Really nice place to see, but you should be prepared for the over 400 stairs to take down (and up - if you dare) to see the heaven. There is also a lift available if you don't want to take the stairs. The hell looks more like heaven and vice versa. You'll see what I meant when you'll get there. It took us 1h to see the place but we like running and stairs.

There is an active excavation site known as Olba Ancient City, situated in a magnificent location. At the summit of the nearby hill, there are remnants and a water cistern that were most likely built and utilized by the same community. While it may be distant from the center, it is still a noteworthy area. Directly across from the theater, one can find a blue tent and an old house with gardens where Feride and Aunt Nurten reside.

It's a sprawling site that if you have a lot of time to explore could be fun, but we were a little disappointed to be honest. Sure, the aquaduct is impressive and the size of the walls and watch towers certainly suggest that it would have been safe, but there is not that much here that you can't see elsewhere.
Our advice - if you are passing then stop by for 30 mins, but don't drive here just for the city.

The Ataturk House Museum is a compact destination that offers visitors the chance to explore Turkish history. The museum showcases various artifacts and personal items of Ataturk, along with photographs documenting his visit to Mersin. Admission to the museum is free of charge, and there's also a small gift shop adjacent to it where you can purchase Mersin magnets as souvenirs.
The building is located in the central point of the city. It was constructed as a residence for german counselor Herr Christman, for his wedding in 1897 with a lady of the Mavromati ancestors from Mersin. The house is built in a 1270 square meters area. After 1976, the building was kept empty and with a verdict taken by the municipality committee, it was later renamed as the “Atatürk House and Museum” on 12th of October 1992. Many documents and photographs are displayed on the ground floor of the Mersin Ataturk House and Museum. About 22 pieces of his individual belongings taken in from Anitkabir Museum of Ankara are also displayed on this floor. On the upper floor, the ethnographical articles are exhibited, there are two bedrooms; one is the study room and the other for sitting that opens to a big living room.

I'll never travel to Goreme without this trip planner again
Tarsus Waterfall, located in Mersin, Turkey, is a popular tourist spot known for its stunning natural beauty. The waterfall was formed when the Berdan Stream changed its course in the 5th century, creating an impressive cascade that attracts visitors with its enthusiastic appearance, especially in spring. Surrounded by dense forests and lush vegetation, the waterfall offers public viewing platforms and restaurant options where visitors can enjoy a bite amidst the fragrant jasmines and tranquil waters.
Tarsus is a great place to visit, and the waterfall's are great, but could do with a tidy up!

We visited here as part of our trip to Tarsus and really enjoyed it. Access is through a restaurant, although we did not stop to eat. Entrance is completely free as is the large car park.
The waterfall is wide and beautiful, but the part we liked the most was the friendly atmosphere from the locals.
There are picnic tables set up around the viewing site and they were packed with local people coming here to have a picnic breakfast, and were also singing and dancing, in fact they invited us to share their breakfast and dance with them.
There is a duck pond outside with a waterfall which also connects to the main falls. We'll worth going and bring a picnic!

Tarsus Şelalesi is a waterfall located in Mersin, Turkey. It is a popular tourist attraction in the region, known for its picturesque setting and natural beauty. The waterfall is located in the Tarsus district of Mersin, and it is surrounded by dense forests and lush vegetation. It is fed by the Berdan River, which flows down from the mountains and through the forests before plunging over the edge of the waterfall. The waterfall is approximately 30 meters tall, and it is a popular spot for swimming, picnicking, and hiking. There are also several restaurants and cafes located near the waterfall, offering a range of local dishes and refreshments.

The Stone Bridge was constructed around 200 A.D. and spans the Seyhan River. It remained open to traffic until 2007 and is still standing today. The bridge exhibits a simplistic yet stunning design, in contrast to modern bridges. On the opposite side of the bridge lies the old town and Ataturk museum, which are worth exploring. There are also several charming cafes and ice cream shops nearby, as well as street vendors selling various items like prayer beads and underwear.
Lovely little cafes and ice cream places about. Couple of buskers added to the atmosphere.Lots of trees so could enjoy the morning sitting in the shade with a cup of tea!

This bridge is a historical object. It's just for walking now, also there’s nice views especially in the dark time.

The bridge still stands after all these years, it’s simple but beautifully constructed, unlike those ugly bridges today. On the opposite site of the bridge, take sometime to walk the old town and the Ataturk museum.

A beautiful, well-preserved bridge. You can stroll to the other end and back, just as people have done for many hundreds of years. A view of the huge mosque to the north makes for a nice view. There's not too much to do at the bridge, so I'd recommend next heading towards that mosque through the riverside park on the west bank there, as the nice part of town is in that direction. Though beware of aggressive beggars and peddlers at the mosque.

The Sabanci Merkez Mosque in Adana is a grand structure that was opened in 1998. It boasts an Ottoman-style interior and is covered entirely in luxurious marble and gold leaf. With six minarets and a towering central dome that reaches 54 meters high, it can house up to 28,500 worshippers. This impressive mosque, built by philanthropist Sakip Sabanci, is the largest between Istanbul and Saudi Arabia.
This is one of the greatest and beautiful mosque what I had ever seen! It's the second largest mosque in Turkey. There’re amazing views all around and exciting views inside.

If you are coming to the Mosque after seeing Taş köprü there is shortcut, an underground passage to the mosque but the passage stinks with urine and filth. You can make a bigger loop and pass through a traffic lights which are a bit far. But if you go through the underground passage the smell is terrible. Looks like an abandoned place. If you can bear the smell you can pass through it fast and reach the beautiful mosque that is worth visiting. I think municipal authorities should pay attention to this.

The Varda Viaduct is an impressive architectural marvel characterized by its soaring structure and dramatic arches. It gained popularity after its appearance in the James Bond movie "Skyfall". Though worth a visit, drivers should be aware that there is only one passage through the tunnel, which is a one-way road. Visitors are advised to come early in the morning when it's less busy as photo taking spots can be dangerous.

Safety warning. You need to drive carefully to this place, the road is narrow, after driving for an hour in a narrow road you will be reaching a cafe where you can rest and enjoy the view of the bridge. Only sandwiches and drinks, no kebap lol. We left the area and had our nice grilled sucuk at ( Tekir Zirve Restaurant), located on the top of the mountain where the view is also amazing.

Only worth visiting if you are driving close by. I didn't really see the draw here. Nice bridge, but way too many other things to see if your time is limited like mine was on vacation. Not easy to get to either. Seems most people go here just because it was in a James Bond movie. Skip it!

Varda Viaduct is an impressive artifact of German engineering. It was built between 1907-1912 during the Ottoman period. It is a steel superstructure covered with stone blocks. It is very impressive and made worldwide famous with the Bond movie Skyfall.

Large monastery carved into rock, known for its striking Byzantine frescoes & underground rooms.
Visited this place many times in the past. We brought friends here this July and found it better organized and cleaner. There were many newlywed couples visiting which made it more special. The artwork is well preserved and well worth a visit.

A surprise stop on our way from Göreme to the coast. Entrance cost about $2 in 2023. I think the outer caves can be visited for free
The monastery is hewn from the rock, similar to Göreme and Derinkuyu. Stop here rather than Derinkuyu, much quieter and no crowds.

There are lots of area still under restrictions. Not suitable for those not have strong legs. Lots of original fresco still visible. Spend more than an hour, worth the drive.

Gumusler Monastery is amazing, it is carved down into the rock so it is completely invisible from the outside. An incredible feat of engineering!
It contains many tunnels and rooms which you can explore, there are also remains of frescoes and stonework from a nearby ancient city.
The rest of the hillside has hundreds of other cave dwellings with interconnecting tunnels, some as large a modern houses.
The Monastery has a small entrance fee but the hundreds of caves can be explored for free.
A very interesting site that is definitely worth a detour.

Extremely fun day activity! If you’re in Niğde then I HIGHLY recommend checking this out. I am normally admittedly afraid of heights and tight spaces- I confronted my fears and it was totally worth it. If you choose to climb around and go deeper into the structure it’s rewarding, BUT have no fear- there is still a lot of cool stuff to see whether you climb or stay more grounded.

The Derinkuyu Underground City is an impressive Byzantine-era subterranean complex located in Turkey. It comprises eight levels of tunnels and rooms, many of which are accessible to the public. To fully comprehend the significance of these spaces, it is advisable to hire a private guide who can provide explanations about each room. The city is definitely worth a visit as it gives visitors an incredible insight into ancient architecture and engineering design.
As a person who loves exploring and delving into history, I really recommend to visit the place. You will not just know the history of Turkey but also a part of our world history.
You cannot help but be amazed by the architectural wonder and your imagination will go wild on how the people during those times were able to do their activities of daily living. You will see beauty in the complexity of the place.

What an interesting place! Really mind blowing to take in that people used to live like this, with animals etc. Also fighting for their lives at times too.
We studied many areas and visited numerous underground cities, all very fascinating. Although very cool inside the air gets very thick and less the further down you go be warned. Either go first in morning or last before closing.
On entry too many locals trying to sell their goods, some are very pushy and pester too much.
Beautiful handmade items but once interest is shown you will be hounded.
Really nice after being down into the underground city to come out and have a local çay, chat with a local especially the elders as they tell many stories! Also great way to learn more and catch your breath too.
Could do with clean and tidy up locally, more waste bins needed.

This is such an astonishing underground city that have been in existence since many many centuries ago. During that time, people lived underground to avoid oppression, they were able to create quarters for families to sleep, cooking area, storage area, winery, and even a meeting place for the people to gather and have discussions. The underground city were in many levels. One could get lost in the maze of the underground city if not familiar with it. Truly an amazing site and very educational for us.

What a fantastic place! I highly recommend getting there early before the coach trips, as you'll have the place to yourself. 20m in from the entrance are 'private' guides, who can take you round and explain the different rooms. This is a must to fully understanding what you are looking at. Guide cost us 100TL for 4 adults and 2 children (though I assume this price changes depending on the day). You will not regret visiting any of the underground cities, they are incredible.
Gerard Aspinall — Google review
My visit to Derinkuyu Underground City left me fascinated by its historical significance, but there were a few considerations to keep in mind. Here's my review, taking into account the following pointers:
Visit on a Weekday: To make the most of your experience and avoid overcrowding and long queues, I highly recommend visiting Derinkuyu Underground City on a weekday. This will allow you to explore the site more comfortably and immerse yourself in its unique atmosphere without feeling rushed.
Opt for a Guided Tour: To truly understand the significance and history of this remarkable underground city, I suggest joining a guided tour or a Green Valley tour. The knowledgeable guides provide valuable insights into the ancient civilization that inhabited these underground chambers, enhancing your appreciation for the architectural marvels and the cultural heritage preserved within.
Carry Sufficient Water: It's important to note that there are no water sources within the underground city. Therefore, it is advisable to carry an ample supply of water to stay hydrated during your visit. The exploration can be physically demanding, and having water on hand will ensure a more comfortable experience.
Claustrophobia Considerations: Derinkuyu Underground City is a subterranean labyrinth with narrow passages and confined spaces. If you generally feel claustrophobic or uncomfortable in closed places, it is wise to take adequate measures before deciding to visit. Consider your personal comfort level and prioritize your well-being above all else.
Overall, Derinkuyu Underground City offers a unique and intriguing glimpse into the past. By visiting on a weekday, opting for a guided tour, carrying sufficient water, and considering any potential claustrophobia concerns, you can make the most of this captivating historical site. It is an adventure that will surely leave you in awe of the ancient civilisation that once thrived in these underground chambers.

This is a very good tourist attraction place to visit in cappadocia. With the heat we had to wait for the ticket as soon as we entered the cave it was very chilly cold but I liked it after the heat there was outside. These videos were for my vlog but I had no time to edit. We went really deep with some vent areas where natural cool air was entering. Overall very good experience I recommend going there. Just don't buy those creepy dolls from the women sitting outside
Mewonme — Google review
I recently visited Derinkuyu Underground City as part of the Green Tour, and it was an incredible experience. One of the perks of this tour is that the tickets were already included, saving us the hassle of waiting in line. However, I must emphasize that if you are claustrophobic, this may not be the ideal attraction for you. Some of the tunnels are extremely narrow, and it can be quite confining.
During our visit, it did get a bit crowded at times, but the guides did an excellent job of keeping everything under control. Their expertise and knowledge about the history of the underground city added depth to the experience. Exploring the underground chambers, living quarters, and hidden passages was like stepping back in time. Overall, it's a fascinating historical site, but be prepared for tight spaces if you decide to explore it.

One of the most unique, probably prehistoric, iconic and jaw dropping place on the face of earth. This was a marvel of man made structures since before the tools existed. Derinkuyu underground city is an eight level underground city which was capable to house thousands of people and animals, used to be home to humans during various time points in history. The mechanisms of keeping the kettle, providing food and preparing wine, supplying oxygen to the people that underneath take intelligence that came from a species that we proudly call our ancestors. MARVELOUS!!

A few minutes from Goreme... I went to visit this place on a tour called "Green tour" but you can perfectly go in your car and buy tickets when you arrive (there was no line at all when I went) the place in general consists basically in an "underground city" caves, passages and canals that served as a home for this population many years ago, the story is beautiful, the explanation of each room too... but keep in mind that there is nothing written, no posters with information, no signs, if you don't go on a guided tour it will literally be going down, exploring and going up... don't go if you are claustrophobic and take it easy climbing the steps back

It was really interesting to explore the underground city. Unfortunately, no guide was available on the day of our visit. We visited in January. Even the ticket gentleman could not find us a guide. Unlike the Kaymakli Underground City, where they had hired guides waiting for us at the entrance. Many rooms looked similar to us without a guide.

Claimed to be the largest underground man made caves in the world. Only a small portion of the caves are open to visitors. Recommended to get a guide else all “rooms” look the same. Some corridors are very low and narrow. The time you spent there will be less than the time it takes to travel there might. An interesting place to visits if you don’t mind the travel. Fascinating site to visit. This is an ancient multi-level underground city that goes 85 metres below ground near the modern town of Derinkuyu in Nevşehir Province. It is the largest excavated underground city in Turkey and can accommodate 20,000 people together with their livestock and food stores.

The ancient city of Elengubu, known today as Derinkuyu, burrows more than 85m below the Earth's surface, encompassing 18 levels of tunnels. The largest excavated underground city in the world, it was in near-constant use for thousands of years! Incredible experience! Don’t miss this place when you come to Türkiye. Please do not go in if you are claustrophobic, too tall or too large. It is also not suitable for babies or the elderly. Be prepared go down that some spaces require almost crouching to navigate.

Not for the faint hearted, or asthmatics, it's a way down and what goes down, must come up! Very scrunched in some places, and I'm hobbit like myself! Was it good? İt was fascinating, so cool to think people lived in there 😱 absolutely loved the experience

Must visit place if you’re going to Kapadokya! This is so interesting with the history about the underground city. We can see each part of it, below ground. It’s kinda short for each part, so need to carefully watch our head during walking the tunnels.
It’s a beautiful place to enjoy the history of this city.

Vast protected area of fresh- & saltwater ecosystems sheltering flamingos, cranes & egrets.
Can't describe how awesome was that visiting national park. My wife and I rode a horses and saw tons of flamingos. Btw, there are lots of rare birds, so get binoculars and don't forget your telephoto lens if you have one :)
Upd - season starts from March and it is recommended to come here in April-may.

Worst experience in Turkey so far: no water or any birds left to watch. Rule board makes you take a guide in to the park, though there is nothing to see (they even dissembled the wood boards partly). Costs 11 Lira entrance for some plastic birds in the visitor Center. Please just scrap this place as a “national park”

Nice, not much to do in the area, but is worth for a relaxing walk.
Tickets can be bought at the entrance, card payment available.
They can organize boat trip or 4×4 safari trip with a local guide. These must be paid with cash.
There are 2 restaurants at the location.

Extremely boring and a waste of time - saw turtles and frogs that’s about it.
Another point to add would be their treatment of horses , poor animals had scratch marks and some were even bleeding. They have no weight restrictions (a man at least 140kg rode a horse which already had a limp) and from what I’ve seen aren’t even given a break.
Mine and my families trip here was just disgusting.
Nice view of Erciyes though- at least. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SUPPORTING SUCH ANIMAL CRUELTY

Great place for walking and observing birds. It has two wooden trails inside the lake. 2000meters and 1300meters. Amazing view to Mount Erciyes.
I visited place at winter(not the best season).
At spring you can see much more birds.
Beware that birds try to get away from people. It’s hard to approach them closer than 50m(at least during my visit)
You will need great optics to make photos of birds.
Pide is very affordable at the nearest restaurant.

The whole area is just simple and beautiful and I bet it must be freezing in winter. We were hunting for ground squirrels
