A place near the beach , it's also good to visit when it's raining. It wasn't crowded and it's a relaxing walk through the aquariums. Time enough to admire everything.

Me and my kids are full of impressions after visiting this Oceanarium. Very interesting, exciting and informative. Highly recommend!

The Aquarium is always entertaining visit even if you have been there before.
It is close to the beach, playgrounds, the free Train museum, not far from the city centre, many restaurants near and bus station.
...the shop of the aquarium is also a hit for the little ones. I bet even without the visit.

I love this place! It is located 5 minutes walking from the center of Gijón, or 2 minutes from the railway museum and parking. It is an aquarium where you can notice the love of the people who are working there. Everything is tidy and clean. The decoration hand made and beautiful. I had a small aquarium for 4 years so i can tell you that the animals were living in perfect conditions. I really enjoyed the information I received about the invasive species and their effects. It is not massive, but it is lovely, it is not an aquarium where you can walk inside a túnel or they do not have crocodiles or penguins or otters but they have tiger sharks and amazing turtles. But they have Axolotl that for me was a huge surprise. If you are in the area visit this place. It worths every cent. I can not wait to go again.

Immerse yourself in the flora and fauna of the rivers of Asturias, the Cantabrian coast of the Pacific and the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean, enjoying the different types of river marine ocean and terrestrial species. The aquarium is well maintained and clean, and the recreated environment is consistent with the natural environment of the living species. Tickets can be purchased online or at the box office of the aquarium.

From the Kunstitut bus stop in the city, take bus number 4 and get off at the 4th stop, Aquario (aquarium), and enter the museum around 5:00 pm. Admission fee is 10 euros for people over 65 years old (15 euros for adults). Scary, just like the reviews say. But it's worth a look. The inside is empty.
TORU — Google review
They accomplish a lot with the space they have. The Coral reef environments are stunning. Well worth the admission price. However I do feel that some of the tanks are overpopulated and would be better with fewer fish.
Bon Confidant — Google review
Good quality aquarium with species from local marine environments as well as further south such as Australasia. The axolotl is a unique species and the layout is contemporary. Impressive large tank in the centerpiece. Exhibits in Spanish and English

So that today we Gijón residents and visitors can enjoy this place had a cost, because the enclave was military property. The City Council bought it from the Army at the beginning of the 1980s and during this decade its remodeling began by José Luis Martín and Francisco Pol. It was completed in 1990 with the arrival of the sculpture that is the emblem of the city and that in Its moment garnered quite a bit of criticism: the Praise of the Horizon.
The "Praise of the Horizon" is a concrete sculpture by Eduardo Chillida, weighing almost 500 tons and 10 meters high. Despite the controversy it generated at the time, it has become the symbol of the city. And despite how much or how little you like it, it integrates perfectly with the colors of the sea and the sky.

San Lorenzo beach is a nice, secluded beach located in the heart of the city of Gijon. It has a promenade that leads to city amenities, making it perfect for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying some good old-fashioned fun in the sand.
Super 💕❤️

Looks like a great beach. The weather wasn't great on my visit so I can't comment on the sea temperature and the swimming capabilities but it was clean and tidy.
Tom Banks — Google review
Beautiful beach! It isn't too overrun. The water was 20 degrees in June. So the swim was nice. A lot of people surf here as there is always wind.
There aren't a lot of facilities around for toilets or changing, maybe one.
I love this beach. 😀 it's nice and natural, no commercial shops on the beach trying to sell you things. It's just simple, and that's what makes it beautiful 😍

The beach is a five star. Clean, nice and shallow. Great for playing and swimming. Great sand. Great beach walk.
Few good coffee places and even worse parking facilities and the ones that exists are really small and not up to date.
Also no dogs allowed regardless the hours. Would be fair to allow dogs early in the mornings, say until 9:00. There are no one there that early anyways. Dogs allowed between October and April.

I heard that St. Lorenzo Beach in Gijon is the busiest beach in Asturias and I am guessing is on summer time. The beach is really long and beautiful with golden sand and high waves. You can see many people playing sand sports, specially surfing since early morning every day from all the surf schools along the boulevard. It is amazing and very relaxing!!

Wonderful beach! Very big; not crowded at all; beautiful scenery and surroundings; free and abundant parking, as well as many amenities including bathrooms; a first aid centre; an ice cream/cold drink stand; and a restaurant/cafe. The drive down to the beach it's also lovely and scenic.

This is a really nice beach. It's long, it's wide. There's plenty of space and only few international visitors. It's fun place, a safe place with lots of families.
The beach itself is very nice, but also the woods backing the beach is a nice area for people who prefers some cool shade and some quiet.
There is plenty of free parking all along the way, but keep in mind that in high season they still fill up fast!
There's a bunch of restaurants to fill your hungry stomach. Also bathroom / shower facilities. And then the part we liked best: A nice boardwalk all along the beach. It goes on for miles. Dogs are also allowed on there. Perfect for folks who need some walks like us. Loved it.

The Jurassic Museum of Asturias is a fascinating destination that offers a glimpse into the prehistoric world, particularly the 'Age of Dinosaurs'. Located in the scenic region of northern Spain, this museum showcases an impressive collection of dinosaur bones and fossils discovered in the surrounding areas. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring giant diplodocus skeletons and learn about the rich paleontological history of Asturias.
Expected it to be a kid's experience, but it is a beautiful museum and well designed and laid out. Wheelchair accessible, a fun gift shop, free entry on wednesdays but you do have to get a ticket with a time slot at the entrance and plentiful free parking. We enjoyed our visit!

A very good plan to spend a day or a few hours with children.
If the weather is good, even better.
The first thing that catches your attention about this centre is its garden with replicas of dinosaurs. My children loved it. And you do not have to pay to visit the garding!
The Jurassic Museum of Asturias is located in the area of Rasa de San Telmo near the parish of Llastres in the municipality of Colunga.
This museum was inaugurated in 2004 and is shaped like a tridactyl dinosaur footprint. In its facilities, which overlook the Cantabrian Sea, we find one of the most complete displays in the world about these gigantic animals. It is “time” that guides the itinerary of this center, which shows how life on Earth developed. It covers from its origin to the appearance of man, although it stops, naturally, in the three periods of the Dinosaur Era: Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. Each of them corresponds to the three fingers of the great footprint that the architecture of the building draws.

Excellent museum & general park perched on a hill top overlooking the bay. The exhibits were fantastic and quite a lot of the signage had an English translation. Well worth a visit. Just further along the coast there's a footpath that takes you to some real, on the beach, prehistoric stones with large dinasour footprints...

Bufones de Pría is a must-see natural phenomenon where seawater jets spout from eroded limestone cliffs, caused by waves hitting cliff crevices at high tide. This impressive display of water geysers creates amazing sounds and sea spray. It is located in a paradise-like setting that can be easily accessed by parking in Llanes de Pria and taking a comfortable walk. The cliffs have unique rock formations with roaring holes that spit steam when the waters are rough.
Well worth the visit! So much to enjoy with the crashing waves, amazing sounds, and jets of sea spray. The kids loved it and was a great activity.
SethGrotzke — Google review
A wonderful place to spend a half-day or day at. It is very special to see it in all weather conditions. When it's warm and sunny, you enjoy views and walk on the top of the cliffs, you can have a BBQ on the BBQ ready there for you, sitting on the benches at the table and enjoy the views, sun and sounds of the sea. You can have a nice walk to Ribadesella. In the Autumn and Winter, when the weather turns to be rough, you can experience the 'bufones' at their strongest, watching the streams of water rushing out of the deep inside of the rocky cliff and appearing somewhere where you wouldn't expect them, with a big impressive puff! Do not look into the holes! And enjoy the lovely experience. It's is one of the places we love to return, over and over again.
Marie Kubaskova — Google review
Essential place to visit. When the waves of the Cantabrian Sea hit cliff crevices at high tide, they expel water like a geyser. They are very impressive to see and feel. The place is a true paradise. I recommend parking in Llanes de Pria and walking. It is a comfortable ride and avoids encountering problems with the car.

Margaret Wiscombes — Google review
Last summer, we embarked on a road trip across northern Spain, a journey we had yearned for years to undertake. Our aim was to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Asturias, Cantabria, and the Basque Country.
One of our most memorable stops was at Los Bufones de Pria. Nestled in Asturias, this natural marvel is renowned for its unique geological formations. Historically, the area has been shaped by the relentless forces of nature, where the Cantabrian Sea meets the rugged Asturian coast. On the day of our visit, rain was falling, and the tide was violently crashing against the porous cliffs, a testament to the dynamic interplay between land and sea that has sculpted this landscape over millennia.
As we wandered around the headlands, we experienced the dramatic phenomenon for which Los Bufones de Pria is famous. The pressure created by the turbulent seas forces air up through the caverns in the ground, resulting in spectacular spouts of water and air, akin to geysers. These natural blowholes are a geological rarity, formed by the erosion of limestone cliffs over countless years. The sudden rush of cold air erupting from beneath our feet was both startling and awe-inspiring.
Despite the initial surprise, we found the landscape otherworldly. It features jagged-edged rocks and towering cliffs that loom majestically over the sea. The thrashing waves create a sonic backdrop that drowns out all other sounds, adding to the surreal atmosphere.
For anyone planning a visit to Asturias, Los Bufones de Pria is an unmissable destination. It's a place where nature's raw power is on full display, offering a glimpse into the ancient geological processes that have shaped the Earth's surface.
This mesmerizing experience was captured through the lens of photographer Pierre Austin, whose images vividly convey the rugged beauty of this extraordinary site.

Interesting place even during low tide. Lots of deep holes and cracks in the stone where ypu can hear the sea out of. Quite a long walk from the parking lot to there.
The sinkhole beach Playa de Gulpiyuri is situated beneath rocky hills and is renowned for its rustic atmosphere and small size. Though it may attract a lot of public attention, it's considered a must-see tourist spot. The emergence of a petite beach amidst the dunes gives way to active tides and waves that cannot be seen from the shore. The place holds an air of magic when one gets the opportunity to have solitude on this beautiful beach in early September.
Beautiful interesting beach and views. You might have to pay €2.50 to park your car
Anna Tiurina — Google review
Park 2,5€ , no options. Small beach with no water and too many humans. Isn't worth it. Save your money for beers and your eyes for Spanish chicas.
Peace out!
Joao Lopes — Google review
Magic place if you have the chance to be alone. It happens in early September and then you can even bath when the tide is high.
Anyhow this is a spectacular place that the sea power has designed and filled with smooth sand for a real pleasure of the eyes.
Sourroundings are spectacular as well and other beaches for surfers quite close. You may also appreciate the mountains and the greens in the backyard.

Super cute secluded beach.. Bit of a, walk from car park.!
Luigi — Google review
Known as the shortest beach in the world, this is a nice spot to stop by. It can get crowded and it is indeed a small beach but it is very unique due to the fact that there is a channel in the cliff that allows seawater to reach this beach which is basically a sinkhole. Behind the beach you will have some nice views of the cliffs and there is free parking available there.

I think we just chose a bad moment to go, because we were not even able to put our feet in the water. It's cute and small, but many people are coming, and I am sure it's a better idea to visit in the evening or early morning.
Parking cost 2,5€.
Joanna Halicka — Google review
Unusual to see an onshore beach, but that's all it has... Then it's quite small and tends to be crowded. With low tide there's barely no water so go with high tide.
Martin Ochoa — Google review
Don't believe the hype! It is yes maybe one of the smallest beach in the world, but not a reason why to see it. It has nothing special, and a LOT of people are just stopping by, quick photo for Instagram or so, then go. To park there "legally" will set you up €2.50.. but many are parking illegally, i guess an Instagram post is not worth that. Don't waste your time. (And no, no photos. i actually purposely didn't take photo just to not feed the hype.

It's a wonderful place, the water gets into the rocks and it makes a tiny beach. However, it's so tiny and there are so many tourist that it's not worth it to visit more than just to have a look and leave. Definitely it's not the place to spend a day to sunbathe.

At low tide and high season it is a crowded puddle but is probably much nicer in better conditions
Picos de Europa National Park is a protected area known for its dense forests and diverse wildlife, including deer, wolves, and bears. The park offers spectacular scenery with high mountain passes, lakes, and stunning peaks. Visitors can enjoy activities such as climbing, cycling, kayaking, and hiking in this picturesque setting.
An amazing experience at the first national park in Spain. Great hikes , plus you can do a 4 hours SUV tour of the view points

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been in Europe. It was an amazing surprise as I didn’t know Spain had this kind of striking mountain scenery. Lots of amazing hikes through rugged almost wilderness landscapes
Henry Bowesman — Google review
the Picos Europa form a barrier behind the coast of Bilbao San Sebastian and other cities along the north coast of spain. They are magnificent and totally sublime. Travelling up from the plains of Spain (where it doesn't rain) is such a marvellous experience if not a little teeth clenching at times! You ascend through huge gorges cut out of the Picos and wind your way through the breathtaking scenery until you reach Fuente De and then continue to the coast. A virtually unknown delight

At the time of visit (September 2022) you can only gain access via the road before 08:00 in the morning. After 8 o'clock, the barrier at Cavadonga is lowered and access is only for arranged guided tours.
We got up early and made the effort and was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.
Well worth getting up for but the ride up is a little daunting in the dark.

Playa de Torimbia is a picturesque crescent-shaped beach that attracts nudists due to its secluded location, clear turquoise water and white sand. Tucked away in Asturias, it's one of the most hidden and beautiful beaches with lush greenery encompassing high hills around it. It's important to note that most visitors prefer to sunbathe naked.
Absolutely stunning beach and views… the waves, caves and a tiny island around the beach
Points to note:
1) accessible by private transport only. From the Parking point it’s a private 10-15 minutes descent to the beach which is partly VERY steep
2) there is only one restaurant by the beach which has good options of food and beverages
3) it’s a “clothes optional” beach. So most of the people you see around are FULLY naked. So that’s something to be considered if visiting with kids or your comfort
Overall if you do not mind the descent and climb, it’s an amazing beach and all the effort is worth it

Beautiful beach with nice walk down. We parked in the town due to hight restriction signs and no motorhome signs. Vans were parked up there so I think signs only applied to proper motorhomes and not van conversions. A long walk up the hill and then back down from the town.
Waters a bit rough for swimming.
Large beach to walk around on.
People in swimming costumes and people naked share the beach.

What I liked most about this charming church are the corbels, that is, the sculptural border under the roof, where you can see geometric figures, faces and even the very nice head of a small bear cub. According to a document from the year 1037, the church was founded by Elvira Favilaz. At that time it was the monastery of San Salvador de Pernia. It will not be promoted to the category of Collegiate Church until 1748.

Calle Carr. Sscm, 12, 34847 San Salvador de Cantamuda, Palencia, Spain
Compact 13th-century castle with a crenelated tower & a small museum, overlooking the town & harbor.
Castillo del Ray is a 13th Century castle overlooking San Vincente de la Barquera's town and harbour. The monument is spectacular for the audacity of its engineering on such difficult terrain. It is not ornately appointed but it is but it is spacious, with stairwells and parapets for defence that offer terrific views of the harbour it once stood guard over. Also, it provides scope for a child's mind to run rampant. Castillo del Ray ticks all the boxes for an intact, bijou medieval castle. Well worth the modest entrance fee.

Av. Antonio Garelly, 1, 39540 San Vicente de la Barquera, Cantabria, Spain
El Capricho de Gaudí is an early masterpiece by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, built in 1883 as a summer chalet. This Persian-style minaret stands out for its personalized design, featuring sunflower tiles and unique details that reflect the owner's interests. Situated on a hill in Comillas, this English-style mansion offers guided and self-guided tours to explore Gaudí's decorative work for lawyer Antonio Lopez.

I found this place very interesting and definitely worth a visit.
I had a guided tour with a private tour guide, and we learned a lot by being with her.
Whether you think that Gaudi was gaudy, that perhaps is true. He definitely was unique. He spared no expense on what he built, and he thought of every detail imaginable.

Fascinating house, it would be lovely to learn more about the first owner though. Below the house there are some japanese paintings that are really out of place in this magnificent house, I reckon is because the new owners are japanese. Also the access to the tower should be opened.
Suzana xyz — Google review
Fascinating place . I really appreciate what I see.
What i dislike are the guides who speak Spanish and yell horribly to the ears of other people who want to appreciate in silence. Plus, they are rude, get you out of their way, close windows for their presentation and just tell you to come back later. And funny enough everyone in the crowd finds this behaviour normal: because you are the only person against a crowd.
This makes the visit not pleasant at all.
For the staff and organisers: just a little hint. When you have a so precious place with so little small rooms and stairs, don’t use guides with a crowd of 20 or 30, make smaller crowd with guides who speaks normally AND in different languages and train them to be respectful of other visitors and respectful of the place.
Consequently I do NOT recommend the place when guides are around and many people visiting. No go for me.
Toilets are smelly and not well maintained. There is no parking for cars: the town is faulty here. Extra difficult to park; no help provided.
Jerome G — Google review
perhaps best scene on the outside from the garden area of the sobrellano palace located next door yet accessed from the next block over to the south behind the main entrence, which will actually lead you to the front of the gaudi whim home. unfortunately most visitors miss this because the gate around the home is so tightly looped that from within the grounds you cannot get a full wide shot of the entire home or appreciate the majesty of its whimsical design; also because while at the palace you are unlikely to notice the pathway that leads behind tall shaded trees that eventually reveals the beautiful gaudi home. alternatively there is also a long residential street behind the main entrance of the home that once you reach the end of it you can climb a few steps and get a clear view of the home as sort of an aerial view with the city behind it taken together this magnificent home may best be appreciated from the surrounding outside since getting in is a chore and overpriced at €7 for a short and impersonal visit.

2 things that could be improved: the guide yells! If you are not with the group, it’s really annoying. He can speak 10x lower and people will still be able to hear him well. The video we watch in the beginning is in a room with uncomfortable benches and mal placed, if someone sits in front of you, you won’t be able to see the screen, most of the people prefer to be standing to not disturb others. The video is 12min long and it’s auto played, try to watch from the beginning (I watched the middle to the end and kept watching to see the beginning that I had missed 😅)
Dogs are welcome in the garden.
There was no line on Sunday afternoon.
Bring earphones and your cellphone, there are QR codes and you can listen to the audio guide (several languages available).
Save at least one hour for the visit, there so many details and you’re gonna love it!

I recommend buying tickets minimum 1 day IN ADVANCE, if you're on a schedule.
There are guided (take 45 minutes) and self guided entrances (both cost 7eur) to the house decorated by Gauide, for the lawyer of Antonio Lopez.
Andrea, our English speaking guide was awesome!
Parking can be difficult as the attraction is on the city center, but almost all parkingspots are for free along the road.
Note: Although the Sobrellano palace and temple (built by Gaudi's teacher for AntonioL.) are next door, they are separated by a fence. You can not pass easily between them, only by doing a whole 10-minute walking loop.

Tip number one: go before 10AM.
I went twice and both times it was lovely and semi quiet when went in and became really busy as we left around 10:30 - 11:00.
I really enjoyed seeing the architecture and personally really enjoyed Gaudi's amazing eye for detail and nature. I love how timeless his work is. The staff speaks multiple languages and in every room is information why the room is built and designed the way it is.
For 7 euros definitely worth a visit.

We bought tickets in advance which you should definitely do! You can skip the long queue. We had a guided tour with Andrea, recommended. First of all, she was absolutely amazing and we got an excellent tour. Insightful and interesting. Secondly, you get some insider info with a guide and it doesn’t get boring.
I want to come again
Bárcena Mayor is a picturesque village situated in the mountains of Cantabria, Spain. It is the sole residential village within the Saja Reservation, nestled in the Saja and Nansa valleys community. The village is surrounded by oak and beech forests on the floodplain of River Argoza, making it an integral part of the Saja-Besaya Natural Park.

Nacimiento del Rio Ebro, located 5km northwest of Reinosa, is the source of the Ebro River. The serene spot features deep-turquoise water, a tiny shrine, and picnic spots on wooded banks. It offers a natural landscape with plantations and a diverse ecosystem supporting various plants, animals, and birds. The area has been designed for accessibility with steps and visitor facilities like seating and parking.
Beautiful area where you can walk along the river. There is a car park right beside the area with a restaurant and a cafe. The walk is quite small so it will only take 10/15 minutes to walk around.

Nice picnic area to have a break while you travel around and which you do not expect to become the most powerful river in Spain with such a small mountain water leak. Do not miss the swamp past Reinosa to realize the great amount of water actually coming from here.
David Fuertes Garcia — Google review
A nice little stroll, good to see although it's rather busy with tourists (we added to that!). Not a whole lot going on, but quite a special place in many ways. Worth stopping to see the cold crystal blue waters that come out from underground.
David Jones — Google review
A nice little natural park with a small pond and multiple tiny waterfalls. There are cute little ducks around and some picnic tables. Spent an afternoon chilling, and the trees provided enough shade from the scorching heat.
Berkay Demirel — Google review
Easy walk, so peaceful to be here, even baby stroller can go around, also there are many ducks, so it entertains kids too. But personally it is too short walk. Not much to see.

A lovely area to take time to see. The source of the River Ebro. It is free to see. Lots of picnic tables if you wish to use them.

The National Museum and Research Center of Altamira is located near the UNESCO-listed Altamira Caves, offering insights into the lives of early inhabitants. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the Altamira Cave Museum and Cabarceno Wildlife Park. The center features a reproduction cave providing an educational experience, although some visitors felt it was smaller than expected. Despite this, the museum offers a 3D experience with informative content available in English.
Very special museum but very sad that we can't see the real thing. The museum is priced very well. I think the surroundings are free and the real entrance is paid ( see picture). The museum provides you with a 3d experience, dynamic videos and its very informative as everything is also available in English. The parking is totally free and spacious. The surroundings are less impressive unfortunately. Definitely a must visit if you are near.

Nice Museum but wish one could see the actuall cave from a distance at least, not just the replica.
M Osiris — Google review
It’s an interesting but smallish repro cave. The place was full of noisy school children which was nice. Very educational but to be honest, not sure it’s up to the standard of the Loire caves. But enjoyable enough.
What I didn’t like was the feeling of being herded like sheep and certainly thought that the security guards would have been more at home in the Kremlin. Your life is at risk if you wander off the paths and onto the grass. Be warned.
Derek Wailes — Google review
Excellent value for money. Very informative displays (some English text) and the recreation of the cave was extraordinary. In the museum at the end there is a video demonstrating how it was constructed. Good little cafeteria and toilet facilities. Lots of outdoor space to wait for entry time.
M Dolby — Google review
Great experience, amazing reproducción of the original cave.
Miguel Abrego — Google review
A stunning and beautiful museum about a fascinating and important site.
The museum itself is broken up into several parts -
The Neocave (the star of the show for me) recreates parts of the original cave, including the occupation areas at the front of the cave and a cavern recreating some of the prehistoric artwork.
Other parts of the museum are dedicated to the prehistory of the area before Altamira, a part dedicated to looking at some of the other Ave and rock art from the area which really help put the site in context.
There are some liveky external walks, including a walk up to the original cave entrance.
My partner is disabled and uses a scooter to get around. He found it very accessible and easy to navigate.
My only major criticism is that they say they have a cafe, but in reality, these are a few vending machines and tables (they do have a separate picnic area). As this museum requires at least 3-4 hours to visit, I would recommend brining a picnic.
For the price of 3 euros a visit this is definitely worth the money and visit.

It's refreshing to see heritage preservation. Great experience. Great job. All Covid-19 protocol observed.
Josette Ricketts — Google review
A good place to see if you in Cantabria, unfortunately the main Altamira cave is closed to the public, but the replica cave says a lot and the museum they have in there speaks volumes and is loaded with prehistoric information and facts.
Nicholas Lamptey — Google review
Scam. the museum closed an hour and a half earlier, as this woman was in a hurry somewhere. 30 visitors did not get into the museum. we were all shocked. I have never seen such a terrible service in any museum in the world.
Anton Senchenko — Google review
Horrible communication and organization. After waiting for an hour to buy the tickets you are informed that you have to wait another 1.5 hours to enter the cave replica. Oh and the replica is pretty poorly made so just do yourself a favor and spend all that time in Santillana.
Wojciech Kofin — Google review
Nicely documented in several languages. The made an identical replica of the cave inside the museum to not damage the original cave. The tour guide was in Spanish and I don't know if there is also a tour in english or not. It was definitely worth it. In my moment of visiting it was even free in Saturday and Sundays. Check the site first to check if this is still the case.

Very impressive. Gives everyone the opportunity to see the cave art. Can understand why you cannot visit the actual caves due to preservation needs. But the recreation of the cave is very good and artefacts on display are very impressive. Well worth a visit

Wonderful recreation of the real caves which are closed to protect the paintings. Fascinating and thoughtful displays. Signage in Spanish and English. It was a totally stunning visit. Took a few hours. Very good value at €3.

Wonderful place. They did and incredible work recreating the original Altamira paintings even down to the ceiling cracks. Make sure to ask any questions that you might have to the guide. They were all very passionate about the history of the cave and the surrounded ones.

The Museum of Torture is a small but interesting museum displaying various methods and tools of torture that have been used throughout history. It is well worth a visit if you are interested in learning about the gruesome world of torture, and it is also slightly scary to think about what could have been done with these devices.
Karol was amazing. Guided tour was perfect. All questions answered perfectly. Thank you

Fascinating and also scary to think these devices were used on people.
Well worth a visit and value for money but make sure you have a strong stomach.

Great place to visit, very interesting but horrific. Very reasonable price to enter. Certainly to graphic for young children, would recommend older teens upward age group. But certainly worth a visit.
Henrietta García — Google review
History is always important. The museum is cheap, but not for the faint of heart. Reading all those torture methods certainly needs a lighter program after to brighten up a little. The architecture and lighting also helps to set the ambience of heaviness, and it does feel like a brief time travel inside, which is fascinating and slightly horrifying at the same time.
Iasmin Avhustovych — Google review
This museum offers a permanent exhibition dedicated to the various instruments of torture, punishment, humiliation and capital punishment, used during the period in which the Inquisition operated. The objects are original and were actually used for such purposes.
andrey shamray — Google review
I am being brutally honest here. This museum is not for the feint of heart (especially if you choose to read all the plaques). If you enjoy this museum I’m sorry to say it’s kinda sickening. However, it was cool to see the different methods of torture and who they were used on. I wish there was some more history about the time period and WHY someone would be tortured and WHO came up with the torture methods.

The Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana in Santillana del Mar has a rich history dating back to the 11th century. The town itself is a National Monument, boasting medieval architecture and landmarks like Torre del Merino and Torre de Don Borja. Exploring the cobbled streets lined with medieval mansions is a treat for visitors, while nearby palaces and villas offer glimpses into the region's affluent past.
What is now known as the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana has its origins in the expansion of the old convent of the same name in the mid-12th century. It was built by a group of monks to contribute to the repopulation of the area and the creation of a small hermitage where you can exhibit the relics of the martyr Juliana they brought with them. At that time, the village adopted the name of the monastery: "Sancta luliana". The Collegiate Church of Santillana de Mar is the most important Romanesque religious monument in Cantabria, being declared National Monument of Spain in the year 1889.

It is a sad day when you attempt to go to Church and you are not authorized to do so.
I’m a Pilgrim to Santiago on the Camino del Norte. Attempted to visit the Colegiata to pray in two occasions without success. The “business hours” are not clearly posted, asked the guard for information and came back during the timeframe the Colegiata is supposed to be opened. Now the excuse for none admission was that a wedding was going to take place (btw a few hours later).
So far, I was able to attend a special mass for the Athletic de Bilbao when we were coming into the city and a wake for two individuals that had died that week in Portugalete and no questions were asked. The more participants to the event, the merrier.
If the Colegiata is going to be used primarily as a tourist trap then go ahead; however, do away with the double role of an active Church where Christians are not going to be allowed in because we are not local or affects their ticket office hours.
We are not tourists, we are Pilgrims and a little consideration is appreciated.

Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabárceno, located just under 20km south of Santander, is a unique adventure for families. It's not your typical zoo or safari park; instead, it's a landscaped former open-cast mine where exotic animals like tigers, giraffes, and endangered Cantabrian brown bears roam freely in giant enclosures within the 750-hectare park.
Different, awesome, amazing, a real immersive experience, those are the main words i would apply for this place, there’s nothing like this in the whole country, prices are fair and the park is huge! We’ve enjoyed the walk through all the areas in here, it’s worth the visit, prices are good for spending one day in here. Congratulations to the company in charge of running this location. We are definitely going back , plenty of animals, plenty of green parks we are supper happy about this. Thank you.
Bastian Alpha — Google review
I spent an awesome day in this very special place. It is unlike any other zoo that I visited, it's like a cross between a zoo and a safari. You have to go with your car unless you want to do some serious hiking. The enclosures are massive and the animals have a lot of space to roam. There are also two cable cars in the park and restaurants as well. You can easily spend the whole day exploring this place. We'll worth the entry ticket.

Very nice concept of a zoo.
You drive a lot as it is huge.
They made it look like a hilly savanna.
Our only issue was that many of the animals were inside and didn't come out and so we couldn't see close to half of them.
Also, as their areas are bug, sometimes they hang out far from where you can see them.
Save the cable car to the end as it is a nice cap to your trip.
Michael Dulberg — Google review
Incredible place, you must go early in the morning to really take advantage of the place. Too many animals, too many locations... it is just necessary a lot of time to see it all. We liked it a lot and would come back to complete the visit.

I loved this zoo even though it rained for the whole duration of 4.5 hours while in there. The cable cars is a must! Absolutely fabulous even in rain...I'd visit again on a sunny day for sure! Great to beable to view from cable car, vehicle and to be able to walk bits too. The actual setting is stunning with fabulous landscape throughout.

Undoubtedly an amazing experience where upon the welfare of the animals is paramount. Nothing short of a Safari without most of the constraints in a Zoo.

Pat Matthews — Google review
Beautiful for a day out, its worth it to get there just to enjoy the scenery. Animals seemed happy on the very large natural enclosures.
Picnic areas, clean facilities. The cable car ride is amazing.
You need a car to drive because it is huge.
Darkpatiri — Google review
This is the best zoo I've ever been to, the surroundings are gorgeous and they have acres of land to roam around in and so many of the animals had babies and looked quite happy, unlike most zoos where the animals all look depressed. We came when the weather wasn't too hot, which apparently means the animals are more active.
Geoffrey Berg — Google review
We had a lovely day. Probably good to start in morning as we started in afternoon and didn't see everything, but we saw so much we were really happy with the experience. It is so vast and the grounds are very beautiful. It is nice to see the animals have so much beautiful space. Though the gorilla indoor enclosure could do with some modernisation. We weren't too sure how the park works, it seems only geared towards spanish tourism but we did work it out, just drive to each section and get out and look at the animals in their enclosure areas. What a gem. We enjoyed the cable cars a lot too.
Mei-Mei Tang — Google review

The Cabárceno Nature Park is home to more than 120 animal species from the five continents that live in semi-freedom, distributed in large-area enclosures where one or more species coexist.
It is not a conventional zoo or a natural park. It is a naturalised space.
Totally worth a visit, even more with children who like the animals.
Better to avoid weekends or peak season, like August.
Moreover, for lunch, it is worth getting out of the premises, you can do it just walking, and have lunch in any of the restaurants that the small village of Cabárceno has.
M MT — Google review
What a wonderful laid out place. To say it was created from a disused quarry, it looks so natural. Truly beautiful. Such an array of animals & reptiles.
Angela Hall — Google review
It's a great day out for families. We stayed 6 hours but felt it was too short. We took cable car rides and that was spectacular. Luckily we had a wagon with a transparent floor for one of the cable car rides, it was exciting. The bird prey show was most probably the highlight of the day there, it was something completely new to us and we all enjoyed listening to the educational bits of different types of birds and seeing the birds flying/feeding right before our eyes. The only negative thing was the place is so huge yet there were not many signs to guide us which way to go.
Reiko Nakao — Google review
What a park!! The place is huge, so be sure to set aside 3 or 4 hours minimum to explore it. I would recommend that you enter the park and head straight for the gondolas. The trip on these is amazing but also gives you a great idea on the layout of the park and what way you want to drive it later. The areas each animal has is huge so you may not get to see some up close but it is fantastic to see the space they do have.
You have to get off at the 2 lower gondola stations but it's up to you if you want to or not at the higher ones. Be sure to bring picnics as the food stalls can get very busy.
Highly recommend a trip here.
Primera Playa del Sardinero is a beautiful and popular public beach in Santander with plenty of amenities, including snack bars and loungers for rental. The beach offers strong breezes that create surf breaks at all stages of the tide, making it a great place to enjoy the sun during the summer months. In autumn and winter, the waves are smaller but still fun to surf.

The Magdalena Peninsula is a scenic spot that boasts a historical palace, beautiful gardens, a small zoo, beaches and a lighthouse. This sprawling parkland at the eastern tip of the bay is popular with picnickers and provides breathtaking views of nearby beaches across the crashing sea. Kids will enjoy visiting resident seals and penguins, replica Spanish galleons, and can ride on a little train that goes around the headland for an affordable price.
Very nice, green and peaceful place! Perfect for a walk! Beautiful places to visit and eat! Surrounded by water with amazing views, and that sound of waves crashing on the rocks, ahh... miss this place!

Inside the palace is exquisite and at 3 euros for a guided tour well worth it but the grounds and seascapes are stunning. You can see and hear the power of the waves crashing into the cliffs. A short bus journey (1.30 euros each way) will take you there and entry to the grounds is free.
Lynne F — Google review
What a beautiful place to visit even as a tourist. We were travelling with an aged mom and were delighted to hear that she didn't have to walk up the hill to the palace as there's a train (bus) one can hop on that takes a slow trip up the hill. Cost was 5€.
The grounds are immaculate and there's benches placed throughout the peninsula where you can sit and enjoy the view. It's a lovely area to stroll around.
Lee-Anne Curtis-Cox — Google review
The grounds surrounding the Palace are absolutely stunning, with beautiful cliff edges where you can feel the full force of the atlantic wind. The park is really well maintained and is a lovely place to just sit and chill. The actual peninsula is 5 stars for definite, but the park area lacks toilets and amenities. The mini zoo (with sea lions and penguins) seems cruel and unnecessary. The animals don't have much space and some don't seem very healthy, which put a gloomy cloud over what an otherwise lovely trip to the park.

The Palace of Magdalena, located on the La Magdalena Peninsula in Santander and built between 1908 and 1912, is a beautiful example of Spanish architectural beauty and decoration from the early 20th century. The palace has sweeping water views and offers guided tours of its period decor.
This place is amazing, first of all the entrance is free, you pay only if you want to go inside the castle. Is so nice to come here in the summer and stay on a blanket. You have nice things to see here. Love Santander

The place is absolutely beautiful. The views on the sea are breathtaking. The palace is really well taken care of, and the park around too. It's clean and spacious. The only thing that really shocked me was the little zoo with the sea lions and penguins. The enclosures were rather small and they are imprisoned there for pure entertainment. Such place don't belong to 2022. These animals should be freed.

With no Spanish there is no sense to visit the palace. Even with knowledge of this language, it wouldn't be worthy for me as only few rooms were showed. It is more beautiful outside. And the whole penisula

Lovely little peninsula with a nice castle looking building on the top with magnificent views. There is a little "train" service for the ones who can't/do not want to walk but honestly, it is worth the effort. Not too hilly and if you go anti-clockwise you will reward yourself with a chance to see cute little penguins and see lions!
Definitely recommend when you are in Santander! For adults and children alike!

Beautiful architecture, this once a Summer Palace of the Spanish Royal Family is the Crown Jewel of Santander with spectacular views to the ocean and the entrance of the Santander Bay.
Exterior scenes for the blockbuster Netflix Grand Hotel TV series were filmed here.
You have to park outside of the grounds and walk up the hill or for those who want to avoid the brisk climb there is a train/trolley that takes you round-trip for €5.00.
The views alone are worth the climb and you don't have to pay admission just to enjoy the views. There is an admission charge of €5.00 for a guided tour.
Highly recommend if you enjoy architecture and ocean/water views, or a "Grand Hotel" fan.

We joined the tour of the palace for which we were promised an audio guide in English (the tour itself only runs in Spanish ..) - unfortunately this didn’t work at all and would have been much better to have a separate English tour. The audio clips were in the wrong order, all lasted about 30 seconds vs the actual guide explaining things for 5+ minutes at each stop, and we did not have the option to tour ourselves round. Not worth the money! It’s a lovely house but walking round the park is also a very nice morning out;)
